- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:46Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:49Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:53that was created for someone with a particular syndrome.
- 0:56It's called burning mouth syndrome, and it's quite a rare
- 1:01syndrome. Not too many people have it, but
- 1:03it's the kind of syndrome where it feels like your mouth is kind
- 1:07of like like you've drunk a very hot drink without cooling it
- 1:12down, or you've eaten a slice of pizza and it's too hot and
- 1:15you've got this kind of burning mouth sensation.
- 1:18That's the nature of the syndrome, and what makes it a
- 1:21syndrome is that there is nothing physical based or
- 1:24neurological base to justify the pain.
- 1:27It isn't the case that someone's eating something hot and they're
- 1:29dealing with the aftermath, it's that their body is acting like
- 1:33that's true. And for the client that I was
- 1:36working with, their particular set of symptoms came after they
- 1:40were given a fairly brutal evaluation of a an MRI test that
- 1:47basically said that they would have to kind of limit all the
- 1:50things that they enjoy, like walking and hiking, and they
- 1:54might have to spend a long time in recuperation.
- 1:57And that felt scary and overwhelming and daunting for
- 2:03them. It, it felt like a horrible
- 2:04sensation. Then after that, the sensations
- 2:08of burning mouth started happening more and more
- 2:11frequently. So this is a change of what's
- 2:15called the rewind technique in the sense that we want to give
- 2:19evidence that they felt differently in the past.
- 2:22So there is a metaphor of a cinema with three screens.
- 2:26The left screen represents the past and the screen in the
- 2:30middle represents the near past or the OR the fairly recent
- 2:35past, and then the screen on the right represents the future.
- 2:39And what we do is we give evidence that the past and the
- 2:43future are without these symptoms and that the thing that
- 2:46potentially caused it we're changing so that it would be
- 2:50linked to a different emotion that wouldn't feel quite so
- 2:53overwhelming. If you have burning mouth
- 2:57syndrome, you might benefit from this sensation, but it's highly
- 3:00likely that your burning mouth syndrome did not come from a a
- 3:06false interpretation of an MRI test.
- 3:08It probably came from something else.
- 3:10So you might get some value from this, but I would encourage you
- 3:14to either explore the other BMS sessions that I've done.
- 3:19They're all on the podcast and and YouTube I believe.
- 3:22But also to consider working with me directly because the the
- 3:25thing with the recording, what a recording can't do is know who
- 3:29you are and your circumstances. Whereas when I'm working with
- 3:34sessions one to one, that's the whole point, the recordings that
- 3:38I publish, that's just a side effect of me working with a
- 3:42client, because there's enough people in the world that some
- 3:44people might be able to connect with the original issue of the
- 3:47client that I was working with. But you can't fully calibrate
- 3:51with someone listening to a recording.
- 3:52You can fully calibrate when you're actually working with the
- 3:55client in front of you. So if you like the idea of
- 3:59working with me or just want to explore it, there will be a link
- 4:02in the description where you can schedule a free 30 minute
- 4:04consultation call and we can have a talk about what that
- 4:07would be like. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:10comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:12Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and on the
- 4:56outward breath. That's it.
- 4:58Just release all tension in your eyelids and with your eyes
- 5:02closed, just focus on the sound of my voice.
- 5:07Breathing in a feeling of relaxation.
- 5:12And as you exhale, feeling that you can release any tension,
- 5:16stress and worries. So much so that with each breath
- 5:22it enables you to drift deeper and deeper.
- 5:27Relaxed. That's it.
- 5:29And quickly scan your body for any clues of tension.
- 5:33Sometimes it's there in the forehead, around the temple,
- 5:35maybe the jaw, the neck or the shoulders.
- 5:39And just give yourself permission as you breathe in
- 5:41that feeling of relaxation that every time you exhale, you're
- 5:46able to release a bit more of that tension.
- 5:52So maybe in the forehead, the muscles responsible for
- 5:55expressions like surprise or concern, you can just release
- 5:58those muscles, all muscles around the jaw.
- 6:05You can imagine your jaw like a mechanical jaw.
- 6:07Just imagine oiling that jaw so it just feels looser and more
- 6:09relaxed. What you could imagine, perhaps
- 6:15your neck and your shoulders, that if they're holding any
- 6:18tension, it's almost like crystals of ice infused into
- 6:22your very muscle tissue. But imagine as you breathe in
- 6:26that warm feeling of relaxation, that crystallized ice just
- 6:31starts to melt away. And you could imagine that
- 6:34tension leaving your body as shadows and your outward breath,
- 6:39so that with every breath it takes you deeper and deeper,
- 6:46relaxed. That's in.
- 6:48And I want you to imagine breathing in bright white light.
- 6:56Imagine this is a healing light. And as you breathe in this
- 7:00healing light, just imagine this healing light circulates all
- 7:05around your mouth before going into your lungs.
- 7:09In the same way that you chew food before you swallow.
- 7:12Just imagine this healing white light stays in the mouth for a
- 7:15few seconds before going into the lungs.
- 7:19And just imagine this healing white light is going to work on
- 7:24the tongue, the roof of your mouth, your gums, anything
- 7:27around your lips. And as you exhale, just imagine
- 7:32dark shadows representing any emotions linked to sensations
- 7:39that have been in your mouth. Any hotness, any dryness, any
- 7:48sensitivity. Just imagine breathing that out
- 7:53as you consider this kind of like a transfusion, breathing in
- 7:58the bright white healing light and not just staying in the
- 8:03mouth, but going into your lungs.
- 8:04And imagine your heart then distributes this healing
- 8:08properties to every cell in your body beyond your mouth.
- 8:13But as you exhale, just get a sense that anything that could
- 8:19be responsible for any pain, inflammation or distressed or
- 8:24any blocks emotionally, just feel that they are leaving your
- 8:27body in your outward breath as dark shadows, breathing in the
- 8:33white, breathing out the shadows.
- 8:36Consider it like that transfusion.
- 8:37With every breath, you're breathing in more of those
- 8:40healing resources. And as you exhale, just exhaling
- 8:45more of what your body doesn't need.
- 8:48Because I think your body is holding on to something and it
- 8:52doesn't need that thing. And the consequence of holding
- 8:55on to that emotion, that belief or that interpretation is that
- 9:02your body is being hyper vigilant, on guard, trying to
- 9:07protect you in some way, but it doesn't need to protect you.
- 9:10So every outward breath, feel that you're letting things go.
- 9:16And notice how your body starts to relax more, enabling you to
- 9:20drift deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 9:25That's it. Feeling a wonderful sense that
- 9:29you are not only healing, but you are releasing.
- 9:33Releasing anything that is impeding the quality of your
- 9:37life. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 9:42more relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 9:45the deeper you breathe. And as your body relaxes, your
- 9:48imagination awakens. And I'd like you to imagine, I'd
- 9:57like you to imagine an autumn day there in the Rocky Mountain
- 10:04National Park. I want you to imagine you've
- 10:08been on a hike, a wonderful hike, and I want you to feel
- 10:15that you've deserved to rest. And I want you to imagine
- 10:19looking out from the top of one of those rocks and just seeing
- 10:27the incredible autumnal colours. And there is something that
- 10:31feels wonderful about this moment.
- 10:36And I want you to imagine that you've deserved, deserve to eat
- 10:44some food to give you some energy and maybe drink something
- 10:48to quench your thirst. But I want you to feel back in
- 10:53that moment, not as the observer, but back there re
- 11:01experiencing what you experienced, that sense of
- 11:05connection with nature. Feel all of that oxytocin going
- 11:10through your body, a wonderful sense of accomplishment.
- 11:15But notice as you eat that trail mix or drink that Gatorade, you
- 11:22notice something different about your mouth.
- 11:26I want you to get a sense that it feels calm, it feels natural,
- 11:36no unusual sensations in your mouth.
- 11:39Just connect with that feeling, that feeling of being at peace,
- 11:45harmony with your body alignment, that you can eat and
- 11:50drink and notice nothing unusual in your mouth.
- 11:53And if you can bring about that feeling, just let me know by
- 11:59nodding your head. That's it.
- 12:03And I want you to see something unusual close by there, just by
- 12:10the side, just by the side of that Rocky Mountain.
- 12:23I want you to get a sense that you see a door.
- 12:29I want you to see the kind of door that is clearly not
- 12:33connected to a building because you're out there in nature.
- 12:39I want you to imagine standing in front of that door, breathing
- 12:45in that relaxation, exhaling that tension as I countdown from
- 12:485 to 1. I want you to imagine opening
- 12:52that door, because the door will take you to your own private
- 12:57cinema, a cinema with three screens.
- 13:01But right now you're on the side of a mountain looking at a door.
- 13:07As I countdown from 5 to 1, you will imagine opening the door,
- 13:10walking down a staircase into your own private cinema, 5
- 13:15putting your hand on the handle, 4 turning the handle. 3 Opening
- 13:22the door, two walking through the door and one closing the
- 13:30door behind you. Walking down a staircase, each
- 13:34step down the staircase taking you deeper and deeper.
- 13:37Relaxed, so relaxed, so calm, like you're accessing A deeper
- 13:43part of your mind, the kind of part where change happens and
- 13:47then find yourself in your own private cinema.
- 13:51And this is an unusual cinema. Find the most comfortable seat
- 13:56with the perfect view. But you notice there are three
- 14:00screens, all side by side, one on the left, one in the middle,
- 14:04one on the right. And I want you to see that the
- 14:11screen on the left shows you from the past, where you're
- 14:16doing something enjoyable with irrefutable evidence that there
- 14:22was nothing unusual happening with your mouth.
- 14:27Maybe you see yourself on that screen on the left, in a giant
- 14:32cinema screen, eating Christmas cake, frozen ice cream cake.
- 14:39And maybe you see yourself dividing up the portions, see
- 14:43yourself taking a bite and knowing for sure that that
- 14:47version of you had a healthy, happy mouth.
- 14:53Or maybe that screen on the left shows you in a restaurant, And
- 14:59not just any restaurant. It shows you having a family
- 15:04meal in a restaurant in Barcelona, trying different
- 15:08foods, trying different drinks. And you can tell from the way
- 15:12you're smiling, the way you're chewing, the way you're eating,
- 15:14the way you're drinking. That version of you had no
- 15:19issues at all with anything unusual, any sensations, any
- 15:26strange temperatures in the mouth.
- 15:29And if you get a sense that the screen on the left shows your
- 15:32past with you, with the exact neural pathways that activate a
- 15:37healthy, happy mouth, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 15:41That's it. And I want you to see the screen
- 15:45on the right showing you perhaps six months or 12 months from
- 15:49now, doing something that also gives you a sense that you are
- 15:55completely free of any pain or discomfort or unwanted
- 16:00sensations in your mouth. Maybe you're also in a
- 16:03restaurant enjoying a meal or also having a snack after a
- 16:09exhausting hike, or maybe celebrating a special occasion
- 16:14with an ice cream cake. But this is now the future.
- 16:18It hasn't happened yet. And yet you can see yourself,
- 16:22the kind of facial expression and body language that gives you
- 16:26irrefutable reassurance that the future version of you is free
- 16:31from any unwanted sensations. And if you could imagine that on
- 16:36the screen on the right, just let me know by nodding your
- 16:38head. That's it.
- 16:42But the screen in the middle is blank.
- 16:44You're seeing the screen on the right, your future healthy and
- 16:49happy mouth, and the screen on the left in your pass where that
- 16:53was also true. But the screen in the middle is
- 16:56blank. And I want you to imagine
- 16:58keeping your physical body in that chair.
- 16:59But imagine that your imagination is floating up to
- 17:03the booth where the projector screens and projects what's on
- 17:11all of the screens. And as you look down from the
- 17:15projector booth, you can see your physical body there almost
- 17:18in a sleep like state there on one of those chairs in the
- 17:22cinema. And I want you to check that
- 17:25you're in the booth and not anywhere else.
- 17:30And I want you to imagine that you are starting to see a
- 17:33particular event, but you see yourself like an actor on the
- 17:40screen. And imagine this is perhaps 7 or
- 17:438 months ago. And I want you to see yourself
- 17:48like an actor on the screen where a doctor is giving you the
- 17:53evaluation or interpretation of a particular test, a particular
- 17:57set of results. But the way that that doctor is
- 18:02delivering that information clearly had an impact on that
- 18:06version of you. See yourself with the facial
- 18:09expressions of shock and devastation, fear or overwhelm.
- 18:17See that version of you feeling that everything that you value
- 18:21in your future is about to change.
- 18:23Your world is crumbling down. Not living it, just observing
- 18:27it. And if you could observe that
- 18:30version of you dealing with that information as it was presented,
- 18:39just let me know by nodding your head.
- 18:42That's it And just because it happened doesn't mean it was
- 18:47true because continuing to the future and see that actually
- 18:53that evaluation or interpretation wasn't fully
- 18:56accurate or useful or helpful or even true.
- 19:00But you didn't know that at the time.
- 19:04So I want you to imagine, imagine seeing it as a little
- 19:09movie where you're hearing this devastating news, but then
- 19:17imagine that you've got one of those remote controls with a
- 19:21rewind button, the kind of thing that used to work on Avhs
- 19:24recorder. And I want you to imagine that
- 19:27now the movie starts at the end, just after you've heard the
- 19:30news. See yourself with that shocked,
- 19:33fearful, overwhelmed expression and then hit rewind until it
- 19:40goes all the way back to even before the test took place.
- 19:47And I want you to rewind this several times just to get a
- 19:50sense of what it looks like to watch this middle screen
- 19:54happening backwards, that it starts with the horrible feeling
- 19:59that you see yourself with and rewinds to before that feeling
- 20:03ever happened. I just observed that several
- 20:07times. And when you've done that a few
- 20:08times, let me know by nodding your head.
- 20:16That's it. And then have it at the end,
- 20:19just after that moment where you're processing all of that
- 20:22information, freeze it on the screen with the pause button and
- 20:26then imagine teleporting yourself into the screen and
- 20:33this time rewind it from a first person perspective.
- 20:38As I make the sound, just imagine it all happening
- 20:42backwards, but now like it's happening backwards in your own
- 20:44body. The overwhelm is happening
- 20:47backwards. The shock is happening in
- 20:50reverse. All of those thoughts happen
- 20:54inversely. Instead of your life coming
- 20:57crumbling down, your life is coming from crumble down into
- 21:02being solid and certain within a second or two.
- 21:06So just try that now, being in your body just after you've
- 21:09heard the news, and then just rewind it all happening
- 21:13backwards, and then jump forward and rewind it again.
- 21:26Everything happening backwards, the test happening in reverse,
- 21:29the information happening in reversed, even the words feeling
- 21:32like they're all jumbled up, all happening backwards.
- 21:38So you're going from that feeling of overwhelm to a
- 21:40feeling of certainty and happiness and everything is OK
- 21:48and let's do it one more time. But this time goes so far back
- 21:51that you jump into one of those previous memories, perhaps find
- 21:54yourself biking, biting into ice cream cake.
- 21:58So there you are, hearing the news from the doctor and then
- 22:02whoosh everything happening backwards and find yourself in
- 22:05the body of someone biting into that ice cream cake, knowing for
- 22:08sure that your mouth is healthy and happy.
- 22:16And then jump back into the body of that version of you who just
- 22:19heard this false news, this news that wasn't even true.
- 22:23And then rewind all the way back into a lovely meal in Barcelona
- 22:30and note for sure that your mouth feels healthy and happy.
- 22:36That's it. And when you feel like you're
- 22:39back living that moment, mouth is completely fine.
- 22:43You're able to enjoy nice food, nice meals, nice drinks.
- 22:48Just let me know by nodding your head.
- 22:51That's it. Drift back to the photo booth.
- 22:54And this time I want you to play it forward in a new way.
- 23:02I want you to imagine that those second opinions that you got
- 23:06were the first information that you heard about that particular
- 23:09result. I want you to see yourself on
- 23:11screen that after the result, the first opinion and insight
- 23:17that you get is reassuring, and the second one is reassuring,
- 23:25and the third one is the information that you actually
- 23:27heard. But at that point, you don't
- 23:30believe it. You don't give it any
- 23:32credibility. And just imagine seeing that on
- 23:35a screen happening forwards. You're the actor on the screen,
- 23:41but because things happened in a different order, there was no
- 23:45shock, No Fear, no overwhelm. I want you to see you're
- 23:54managing that in an entirely different way.
- 23:56And if that feels like a more desirable event, let me know
- 24:02about nodding your head and you can test out different
- 24:07variables. Be Dr. #1 becomes Doctor 2 and
- 24:10Doctor 2 becomes Doctor one, but the first Doctor is always the
- 24:13third Doctor and he's the one that you don't believe anymore.
- 24:19And then just play it forward and see how it feels in
- 24:22different cases. In fact, make the 3rd Doctor
- 24:27have a voice like Minnie Mouse that he's delivering the same
- 24:32information, but now that that squeaky voice he's delivering it
- 24:35in means you can't take him seriously at all.
- 24:41And if this enhances that feeling of being no big deal,
- 24:46nothing serious, nothing overwhelming, just let me know
- 24:48by nodding your head. See it one more time, just so
- 24:53you know the structure of it. And then jump it back to the
- 24:56beginning and then drift into that screen.
- 25:02Drift into that screen and feel how it would feel to experience
- 25:06it from a first person perspective in the new order,
- 25:12this new way of doing it, that you hear it in that new order
- 25:20and notice the absence of that overwhelm, that fear.
- 25:27Instead, you feel quite reassured, comforted.
- 25:35Maybe the 2nd Doctor just validates this other way of
- 25:39thinking about it. Can you feel reassured?
- 25:43You get a sense that your future is still going to enable you to
- 25:46do all the things that you like to do.
- 25:50And then finally, when that third Doctor comes along, that
- 25:54was the first Doctor. In reality, just give him that
- 25:58squeaky, silly voice. It's giving you the same
- 26:01information, but now it kind of makes you feel like you're
- 26:03smiling. You don't believe what he says,
- 26:08and it's become humorous and harmless and nothing significant
- 26:14at all. And when this feels like you're
- 26:20updating a memory to how you would have wanted it to have
- 26:24been, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 26:31I don't want you to feel that any sensations in your mouth are
- 26:34just being let go. You can let go of them.
- 26:37They were based on false information delivered in the
- 26:40wrong way. You don't need to hold on to
- 26:42those sensations anymore. And over the next few days your
- 26:48brain will recalibrate to a new way of thinking more like how it
- 26:53was in the past when it was given no thought whatsoever.
- 26:59And every now and then you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much
- 27:02time goes by, and you don't have to think about it at all.
- 27:08Now I want you to jump back to that projector booth and then
- 27:12see again the future version of you, perhaps 6 or 12 months from
- 27:16now. So long without thinking about
- 27:19any sensations, it almost feels like it happened to someone
- 27:21else. And now, if all screens show you
- 27:28without the absence of any sensations or symptoms in your
- 27:31mouth, the past with those happy memories, the middle with an
- 27:37updated version of how things could have been, and a future,
- 27:42that future version of you, with irrefutable evidence that the
- 27:46future version of you is without these symptoms.
- 27:48Just let me know by nodding your head.
- 27:54That's it. Now jump into the past.
- 27:56Maybe that memory of the ice cream cake, the Barcelona meal,
- 28:01or even hiking up a mountain. Feel how good it feels to have
- 28:08wonderful sensations linked to enjoyable sensations like taste
- 28:13and texture, but not heat and discomfort.
- 28:19Go back into the middle and just experience what it would feel
- 28:23like to deal with that same information in an entirely
- 28:25different way. Completely harmless, no reaction
- 28:30at all, just information that you're processing, not that
- 28:36overwhelming shock that it was. And then jump into the future in
- 28:39a first person perspective. Feel what it would feel like 6
- 28:44or 12 months from now to be months without any symptoms
- 28:48whatsoever. It almost feels like this, this
- 28:53period of your life where something strange was happening
- 28:55but that's not there anymore. And if you can feel that way,
- 28:58that it's been released from your future, let me know about
- 29:02nodding your head. That's it.
- 29:06Go back to the projector booth, float down into your body, and
- 29:10still see that every screen sees you without any symptoms
- 29:13whatsoever. Seeing you with that happy,
- 29:19healthy mouth designed for pleasurable sensations but no
- 29:26dryness, heat or discomfort. Can you leave the cinema feeling
- 29:32that something's changed? Feeling that your past and your
- 29:37future are now colliding into the present where there is no
- 29:41need? Because any sensations in your
- 29:44mouth were based on a false reading, a false positive.
- 29:50The news that you heard that felt so devastating wasn't true.
- 29:54And now that we've updated the way that you think about that,
- 29:56there is no need to hold on to any of those sensations anymore.
- 30:01And if your unconscious agrees, let me know by nodding your
- 30:03head. That's it.
- 30:07So climb up the stairs, open the door, find yourself back out
- 30:10there on that Rocky Mountain, seeing the autumnal colours and
- 30:17feeling like a weight of pressure stress.
- 30:21It's just leaving your body knowing that it might take time.
- 30:26Just as it takes time for leaves to fall from an autumn tree, it
- 30:32may take time for your old neural pathways to reawaken for
- 30:36them to become the dominant rivers that cognitive energy
- 30:39flow. But you are expecting it.
- 30:44You are now looking forward to it, that your brain will
- 30:48recalibrate to what truly happened, not what you thought
- 30:53happened. So imagine floating back from
- 30:56that mountain all the way to the present, allowing your neural
- 31:01pathways to start to recalibrate and update, expecting positive
- 31:07clues of progress over the next few days and weeks.
- 31:12And sometimes things happen so slowly you don't even realize
- 31:16they change. You've had times where there was
- 31:21a bruise or even a broken bone and the healing took place, but
- 31:27it only occurred to you that there was no pain anymore.
- 31:30When you realize there wasn't any pain anymore, it was just
- 31:34happening slowly and surely there in the background until
- 31:39the evidence of change was that you didn't even notice.
- 31:44And as you hold on to, that's the warts enabling it to be a
- 31:46seed planted deep in your subconscious mind.
- 31:50Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 31:54nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 31:56wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 31:58here and the now as I will shortly count from 1:00 to 10:00
- 32:01to awaken you. You will awaken feeling
- 32:03resourceful, feeling like a change is taking place that will
- 32:08ripple through time, taking you to a wonderful future.
- 32:14Starting to count 123. Waking up 456.
- 32:17More alert 7-8. Open your eyes, Open your eyes,
- 32:22910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 32:25awake. Yeah.
