- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, everybody.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Welcome to another Radio Archive Hour here from the world-famous
- 0:04Speaker 2: Radio Hall of Fame Phil Henry Show on our website, philhenryshow.com.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Ted Bell joins us, and this is one from August
- 0:11Speaker 2: of 2000, as Ted is insisting he has to fly
- 0:14Speaker 2: on the Concorde. Now, I think at this point, the
- 0:17Speaker 2: Concorde was beginning to have some problems. You know, the Concorde,
- 0:19Speaker 2: the hypersonic, I believe is the correct description, aircraft that
- 0:25Speaker 2: flew between New York and Paris for a But it
- 0:30Speaker 2: had some problems. But Ted doesn't care. He needs to
- 0:33Speaker 2: get on that thing. And he explains why he needs
- 0:35Speaker 2: to fly in the Concorde, even after German aviation experts
- 0:38Speaker 2: called it a flying bomb. Also, we have Rudy Canoza
- 0:42Speaker 2: in for a flashback and Bobby Dooley.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So check it out. This is an action-packed hour, man.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Now, Ted Bell, by the way, is he hanging on
- 0:54Speaker 2: the line? Because I know I wanted to talk to
- 0:55Speaker 2: him in the office. The leading German aviation expert has
- 0:58Speaker 2: called the Concorde a flying time bomb.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And compared taking off in one of the aging supersonic
- 1:04Speaker 2: jets to a game of roulette. Ted, I know that
- 1:08Speaker 2: you disagree with that. Thanks for being with us. Ted
- 1:10Speaker 2: Bell is with the.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Are you at the office?
- 1:13Speaker 3: I'm over at the restaurant right now, Phil.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Ted is the owner of Ted's Beverly Hills Steakhouse. He
- 1:17Speaker 2: is also a president of the Beverly Hills Automobile Association
- 1:20Speaker 2: and does some independent producing, some executive producing of independent films.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us.
- 1:25Speaker 3: My pleasure, Phil.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Okay, did you hear what this guy said, that the Concorde,
- 1:29Speaker 2: that he's a German aviation expert, so the Concorde is
- 1:31Speaker 2: like a flying time bomb?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Phil, I'm going to tell you, I had two... First
- 1:35Speaker 3: of all, no, I do not agree with that. And
- 1:39Speaker 3: I'm really not interested in talking about that. From this standpoint,
- 1:42Speaker 3: the Concorde situation is very difficult in light of the
- 1:45Speaker 3: business travel that a lot of us do. If some
- 1:47Speaker 3: German doesn't want to get in one, that's fine with me.
- 1:51Speaker 3: He doesn't have to get in one. I had two
- 1:53Speaker 3: independent films open in Europe last week, one in Prague
- 1:58Speaker 3: in the Czech Republic and one in Rome. I missed
- 2:02Speaker 3: both because Air France is down. I want to go
- 2:06Speaker 3: to Paris, as you know, Phil, because we are opening
- 2:10Speaker 3: the TED in Paris. And we are very excited about
- 2:12Speaker 3: the TED. It's coming to three big restaurants.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Now, for people who don't know what the TED is.
- 2:18Speaker 3: That is a drink. It's a cocktail that I originated.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It is rum and Coke with a cherry. And we
- 2:25Speaker 3: call it the TED. And the TED's going international. And
- 2:28Speaker 3: also because we wanted to bring a couple of our
- 2:30Speaker 3: innovations having to do with baked potatoes, wrapping the baked potato...
- 2:33Speaker 3: in aluminum foil. We are bringing that to Europe, finally.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And we were excited about that. I was all set
- 2:40Speaker 3: to go. Concorde crashes. All of a sudden, Air France
- 2:44Speaker 3: is down. And, you know, I think that, respectfully, we,
- 2:49Speaker 3: you know, a week has gone by after the crash.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I think we can get back up to schedule on
- 2:53Speaker 3: this thing. I don't know what I'm going to do.
- 2:57Speaker 3: There's a lot of people in business in this country
- 2:59Speaker 3: who don't know what they're going to do I know that,
- 3:02Speaker 3: you know, I've had some discussions with you, Phil.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well, hold on for a minute.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Air France has grounded their Concorde fleet because they want
- 3:09Speaker 2: to check for its safety.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I understand that, but how do they expect, what I
- 3:14Speaker 3: don't understand is how they expect me to travel, how
- 3:16Speaker 3: they expect a Ted Bell to travel, how do they
- 3:18Speaker 3: expect a lot of the other people to travel.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Well, what about the commercial flights?
- 3:24Speaker 3: Okay, I want to just go by this one more time.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I do business a certain way. I don't do TWA,
- 3:29Speaker 3: all right?
- 3:30Speaker 2: I understand that, but why can't you in the time
- 3:32Speaker 2: being fly? Are you telling me that every flight you
- 3:35Speaker 2: take to Europe is on the Concorde?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah. I don't understand.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So every flight you take on the Concorde?
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah, every time I go over to Europe, it's on
- 3:43Speaker 3: the Concorde. I go to New York via commercial, and
- 3:46Speaker 3: then I take the Concorde. I thought your producer told you.
- 3:49Speaker 1: No, I didn't know that. So in other words, you
- 3:51Speaker 1: only fly to Europe.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Phil, I'm Ted Bell. I've got a restaurant. I have
- 3:56Speaker 3: so many different things going on. Ted Bell doesn't do
- 4:00Speaker 3: commercial airliners, regular commercial airliners to Europe. I just don't
- 4:04Speaker 3: do that. Ted Bell flies the Concorde. Now, many of
- 4:07Speaker 3: us in the film and the restaurant, the automobile business,
- 4:09Speaker 3: the upper echelons of the business world, business has come
- 4:12Speaker 3: to a standstill. I'm not making meetings. I am telling you, Phil,
- 4:17Speaker 3: that there are.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And some of the stuff you need to do is
- 4:19Speaker 2: you're introducing the Ted to a few restaurants in Paris.
- 4:23Speaker 3: That is correct.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And you also want to introduce them to wrapping baked potatoes.
- 4:27Speaker 2: In aluminum foil, which you claim is your innovation?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I don't make the claim that it is my innovation.
- 4:34Speaker 3: We've been using it in restaurants across America. I started
- 4:36Speaker 3: doing it at Ted's in Beverly Hills, but everybody started
- 4:39Speaker 3: wrapping their baked potatoes in tin foil. And now I
- 4:42Speaker 3: want to bring that to Paris. We want to bring
- 4:44Speaker 3: a touch of America to Paris. And it just would
- 4:48Speaker 3: be exciting. But what we've had to do is push
- 4:49Speaker 3: this back by a few weeks. I don't know what's
- 4:52Speaker 3: going on.
- 4:53Speaker 2: So you're telling me that you cannot introduce the Ted cocktail...
- 4:57Speaker 2: Or baked potatoes wrapped in tinfoil in Europe because the
- 5:02Speaker 2: Concorde isn't flying.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I'm telling you that, and I'm getting from you like
- 5:07Speaker 3: you don't understand. What don't you understand?
- 5:10Speaker 1: The fact that you will not fly on.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I don't do that. I don't do that. Are you
- 5:15Speaker 3: telling me I'm going to fly on a regular jet?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Well, you're flying a regular jet from L.A.
- 5:19Speaker 3: To New York.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Why don't you fly a regular.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I don't... When I enter Europe... Phil, first of all,
- 5:24Speaker 3: I'm Ted Bell. I have Ted's at Beverly Hills.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Ted, I know who you are, okay? And I know
- 5:28Speaker 2: that you're very, very successful. Hold on for a minute.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I've got a technical problem here. It's the second time
- 5:35Speaker 2: I've lost my headphone. I know that you're a very
- 5:37Speaker 2: successful businessman.
- 5:38Speaker 3: What? Phil, I do business a certain way because I've
- 5:41Speaker 3: got to get there fast, all right? I can't wait
- 5:43Speaker 3: around for a nine-hour flight. I can't wait around for
- 5:46Speaker 3: a seven-hour flight. I've got to sit in LaGuardia or
- 5:49Speaker 3: sit at JFK. I got to get there. I go.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I stick and move. You remember Muhammad Ali, the great fighter?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yes, I do.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Okay, they used to talk about Muhammad sticking and moving,
- 5:58Speaker 3: stick and move. That's what I do in business. I
- 6:00Speaker 3: stick and move. I get in. I get out. I
- 6:02Speaker 3: go over to Paris. Here's a big potato. Here's some foil.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Go ahead, throw it in an oven. Here's the Ted.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Get out of here. I get on a plane. I'm gone.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I'm gone. I don't fool around. And because I do
- 6:12Speaker 3: not have the Air France Concorde option, business has slowed
- 6:16Speaker 3: down for Ted Bell as it has slowed down for
- 6:19Speaker 3: a lot of things, okay? Let me explain it one
- 6:21Speaker 3: more time so you got it, okay, Phil?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yes, I mean, I'm hearing.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Let me just explain it. Ted Bell does the Concorde,
- 6:29Speaker 3: and I don't sit in any airplane for nine or
- 6:32Speaker 3: ten hours. The Concorde is there for us who have
- 6:36Speaker 3: made our way in business and we don't do TWA.
- 6:40Speaker 3: I don't do that, okay?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Well, I mean.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Phil, what I'd like you to do And the reason
- 6:46Speaker 3: I did... Did you talk to Mike?
- 6:47Speaker 1: I talked to Mike before we went on the air.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Because I thought it would be an interesting thing to
- 6:51Speaker 3: do for your listeners, those people who don't know what
- 6:54Speaker 3: it's like to fly in a Concorde and probably never will.
- 6:57Speaker 3: They can live vicariously through me a little bit.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Because I want you to give me a hand. I
- 7:05Speaker 3: need to get some pressure to bear here.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Okay. What it is, folks, is an unusual request from Ted, Mr.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Bell, to....
- 7:13Speaker 1: Hold on for just a second.
- 7:14Speaker 2: To place a phone call, you want me to place
- 7:16Speaker 2: a phone call, Ted, to Air France.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I want you to use whatever power the
- 7:22Speaker 3: media has. And in our society, I think we have seen,
- 7:26Speaker 3: especially with the Republican convention, the power the media has. See,
- 7:29Speaker 3: I don't do regular seven-hour flights. I do the Concorde.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You want me to call Air France?
- 7:36Speaker 3: I want you just to bring a little pressure to bear,
- 7:38Speaker 3: because I'm not going to do the... Ted Bell doesn't do...
- 7:41Speaker 3: seven hours out of New York. Ted Bell does the Concord.
- 7:44Speaker 3: And the reason why Ted Bell's got to do three hours,
- 7:46Speaker 3: I've got to get into Paris, drop off baked potatoes
- 7:48Speaker 3: and tinfoil and a supply of Ted drink mix, and
- 7:52Speaker 3: then get out.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Now, wait a minute.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Are you flying, you're going to fly into Paris with
- 7:58Speaker 2: Ted's drink mix? I thought Ted is rum and Coke.
- 8:01Speaker 3: That's right. But, you know, what we do is we've
- 8:06Speaker 3: got to, We just give a drink mix that's got
- 8:09Speaker 3: a little bit of sugar in it.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But you need to use rum and coke.
- 8:11Speaker 3: That's right.
- 8:13Speaker 1: All right, hold on for a minute. Is this the number, Mike?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Would you call it?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Mike Schaefer, my producer, has an Air France number. Now,
- 8:19Speaker 2: I will tell you that I'm not going to put
- 8:21Speaker 2: whoever I talk to on Air France on the air,
- 8:23Speaker 2: because I have to get their consent, and I'm not
- 8:26Speaker 2: going to.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Just tell them, Phil, that I'm Ted Bell.
- 8:31Speaker 2: All right, hold on for a minute, because it's ringing. Hi,
- 8:35Speaker 2: is this Air France?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yes. Is this reservations, please? Reservations. Yeah, I'm sorry. This
- 8:41Speaker 1: is voicemail or whatever it is, Mike. Yes, hello?
- 8:47Speaker 3: No.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I had a question about your Concord service to Paris.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Out of New York.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Tell him that I need it on the 14th. Wait
- 8:55Speaker 3: a minute. What?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Do you have Concord service?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Tell him I need it on the 14th.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I can hear you, Ted. Hold on. You have Concord
- 9:00Speaker 1: service on the 14th? August 14th. Do you have Concord?
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's not confirmed yet?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Tell him that I've got business, okay?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Ted, hold on.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 9:12Speaker 2: I have a friend who has important business in Paris
- 9:16Speaker 2: for the week of the 14th.
- 9:18Speaker 1: He is a restaurateur and.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Just tell him who I am.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Well, hold on. Not a chance?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Tell him what I invented.
- 9:28Speaker 2: He invented the Ted cocktail. That doesn't mean anything to you.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Do you have any Concorde service to Paris on the 14th?
- 9:33Speaker 3: No?
- 9:35Speaker 2: I appreciate that very much. Thank you very much.
- 9:38Speaker 3: What happened?
- 9:39Speaker 2: No, the fleet is grounded, and they can't guarantee that
- 9:43Speaker 2: they're going to have, they'll announce.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Phil, call them back and tell them who I am.
- 9:47Speaker 3: You didn't say who I was, okay? I'm Ted Bell,
- 9:51Speaker 3: and I need for.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Okay, call them back.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Phil, what I'm trying to do is give your audience
- 9:57Speaker 3: a glimpse into supersonic air travel, what it would be
- 9:59Speaker 3: like to be Ted Bell flying to Paris and introducing
- 10:04Speaker 3: the Parisians to baked potatoes wrapped in tinfoil and a Ted.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, what a great.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I'm going to fly all the way to Paris, man,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and have a rum and coke and a baked potato.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Oh, come on, Phil. You know exactly what I'm... Hold
- 10:18Speaker 3: on a minute.
- 10:18Speaker 1: We've got Air France's here.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, hold on.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Could I have reservations?
- 10:25Speaker 3: And we put the maraschino cherry... In the tent, I know.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Hi, is this Air France?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Hi.
- 10:31Speaker 1: May I ask you a question, mademoiselle? Parlez-vous English?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Okay, could I have somebody who speaks English, please?
- 10:38Speaker 3: What are you calling, Paris?
- 10:39Speaker 1: No, this is like Los Angeles, I think. Hi, Air France.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Hi.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question? Do you have Concorde
- 10:46Speaker 2: service to Paris out of New York on the 14th?
- 10:48Speaker 3: Tell him who I am.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You do not.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Ma'am, I am calling on behalf of a friend of mine,
- 10:54Speaker 2: Ted Bell. Yeah, he owns Ted's at Beverly Hills Steakhouse.
- 11:00Speaker 2: He needs to get to Paris.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Tell him what it's for.
- 11:03Speaker 2: He's introducing baked potatoes wrapped in tinfoil to France, and
- 11:07Speaker 2: he's also introducing the Ted.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Ted Bell. B-E-L-L.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Tell them why I'm over there.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I told her it's to introduce the Ted in Baked Potatoes.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You don't, it doesn't ring a bell?
- 11:22Speaker 3: I beg your pardon?
- 11:23Speaker 2: Hold on, she says it doesn't ring a bell. I'm
- 11:25Speaker 2: sorry to bother you. Okay, thank you. They don't care.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They've never heard of you.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Okay, you know something that really tightens my jaws? You
- 11:33Speaker 3: know something? I'm really angry.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Ted, you can't expect every reservation agent to know.
- 11:38Speaker 3: It really, really makes me angry when I spend the
- 11:42Speaker 3: kind of money that I do. I give Ted Bell
- 11:44Speaker 3: flies Air France. And for them not to recognize who
- 11:48Speaker 3: I am, you know something? No wonder they crashed.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Okay, now that's way out of line.
- 11:54Speaker 3: No, no, it's not way out of line. No wonder
- 11:56Speaker 3: they crashed. They're too busy not knowing who Ted Bell
- 11:58Speaker 3: is to pay attention to putting fuel or whatever. I
- 12:01Speaker 3: don't know what happened, but if they didn't know who
- 12:03Speaker 3: I am.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's why they crashed, because they don't know Ted Bell.
- 12:05Speaker 3: No, it's an indication of the kind of service. I'm really.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I've got to take a break, okay?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Well, I really tightened my jaws.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I have to take a break. Hold on, all right? 1-800-449-8686.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Thanks for getting those numbers for me, Mike. He is
- 12:21Speaker 2: upset because they're not the Concorde. The Air France Concordes
- 12:24Speaker 2: are grounded until they know what's going on. Ted's got
- 12:27Speaker 2: to get over to two things he's doing in Paris.
- 12:30Speaker 2: He's introducing the Ted, which is a rum and Coke cocktail.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And apparently they don't cook baked potatoes in Paris yet.
- 12:37Speaker 2: They don't know anything about wrapping tinfoil around baked potatoes.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Do that.
- 12:42Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:43Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Phil Hendry with restaurateur Ted Bell. who wants the Concorde
- 12:50Speaker 2: up and running. You only fly to Europe on the Concorde.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yes. I don't know why that's such a difficult thing.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Well, it's because you say you want the Concorde up
- 12:57Speaker 2: and running. You'll only fly to Europe on the Concorde.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I've got to get in and out of there, Phil.
- 13:01Speaker 3: It's a three-hour flight out of New York to Paris.
- 13:03Speaker 3: It's actually about, from New York to Paris, probably more like, yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 3: three and a half hours. And I will tell you something. No,
- 13:10Speaker 3: I'm not going to do some regular TWA flight. I
- 13:13Speaker 3: don't do that. And what I need to do is
- 13:15Speaker 3: get in there. I've got the TEDx.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I know all about the Ted. We have a call,
- 13:19Speaker 2: in fact, from Newtown Square. I think is it Newtown Square, ma'am?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Pennsylvania.
- 13:24Speaker 3: That's right.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Have you been drinking rum and coke?
- 13:26Speaker 5: You got that right. Well, I have since I'm 21,
- 13:29Speaker 5: but my parents have been drinking rum and coke for years.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I invented the rum and coke.
- 13:35Speaker 5: You did not.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Ma'am, it's called the Ted.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I don't give a hoot if it's called the Elizabeth.
- 13:40Speaker 5: It's still a rum and coke.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a rum and coke called the Ted.
- 13:44Speaker 5: But you didn't invent it.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Well, I'm introducing it to Paris this month, and the
- 13:51Speaker 3: Concord is grounded. God, you know something? I can't believe
- 13:56Speaker 3: that these.
- 13:56Speaker 2: You've been drinking the rum and coke since, well, you're 21,
- 13:59Speaker 2: so since, say, you're about eight?
- 14:00Speaker 1: No.
- 14:01Speaker 3: How long have you been.
- 14:03Speaker 5: If you would be gracious enough to listen, I said,
- 14:06Speaker 5: my parents are hysterical. They've been drinking rum and coke, not.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Constantly, but.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Have your parents been to California, dear?
- 14:14Speaker 7: Of course.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Okay, so the chances are that they had a Ted.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They had a Ted in my restaurant.
- 14:19Speaker 5: No, they didn't, my dear. They've never had a Ted
- 14:21Speaker 5: in California.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Well, they had a Ted. If they've been to California. Oh,
- 14:25Speaker 3: I see. They've never had a rum and coke in California.
- 14:27Speaker 8: No, they didn't.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Okay, thanks for your call.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Here is Woodland Hills, California on the Phil Henry Show.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Hello. They never had a Ted.
- 14:34Speaker 8: Ted, you're an elitist.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I've never heard of Ted Bell.
- 14:38Speaker 8: I live in Los Angeles.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Ted's at Beverly Hills. Everybody knows it. And you are
- 14:41Speaker 3: a bore. No, Ted's at Beverly Hills.
- 14:43Speaker 7: And you're a bore.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you're a bore if you've never been to
- 14:45Speaker 3: my restaurant. Okay? And I'm sorry if you can't afford
- 14:48Speaker 3: to fly the Concorde.
- 14:51Speaker 2: That is of Beverly Hills, which is in Beverly Hills,
- 14:54Speaker 2: and you're on your way over to fly the Concorde.
- 14:57Speaker 3: No, I'm not going to fly the Concorde now because
- 14:59Speaker 3: of the fact that those people have decided that they've
- 15:02Speaker 3: grounded the jet.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Well, we tried to call. They never heard of you,
- 15:06Speaker 2: all right? They have never heard of your restaurant, and
- 15:10Speaker 2: they've never heard of your drink, and they've never heard
- 15:13Speaker 2: of you. So what do you.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Want me to do?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Well, I'm going to tell you something right now, Phil.
- 15:18Speaker 3: That's why Air France is probably never going to fly
- 15:21Speaker 3: the Concorde again, and they're probably going to have more crashes.
- 15:24Speaker 2: More crashes because they don't know you already went down
- 15:27Speaker 2: this road with me. More crashes, huh? Because they don't
- 15:30Speaker 2: know who you are.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Well, the fact of the matter is some of us
- 15:34Speaker 3: only fly the Concorde.
- 15:35Speaker 1: How much is it to fly the Concorde? What is it,
- 15:37Speaker 1: like 10 Gs?
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah, what's that? So?
- 15:40Speaker 1: So?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Is that bothering you? It's like that last broad
- 15:44Speaker 3: I just called. She doesn't know from a Concorde. She
- 15:46Speaker 3: doesn't know from a good restaurant. She's up in Woodland Hills,
- 15:49Speaker 3: all right? She's riding her horse. You know, she's out
- 15:52Speaker 3: there on the horse trail. You guys don't know what
- 15:55Speaker 3: good living is. Good living, Phil, is a tad of
- 15:58Speaker 3: good steak.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And a baked potato wrapped in tinfoil, I know, which
- 16:01Speaker 2: you are introducing to the people of Paris, France.
- 16:04Speaker 1: All right, well, I will tell you this much, Ted.
- 16:06Speaker 2: As far as the Concorde, I can't get Air France
- 16:09Speaker 2: to put that thing up on August the 14th.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You're going to have to fend for yourself, okay?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Well, I don't think you tried hard enough.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You heard me.
- 16:18Speaker 2: I was on the phone with them. Those guys don't
- 16:21Speaker 2: care about you, and they don't care about your needs.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Well, you know something, Phil? I find it very disappointing.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You may find it very disappointing, but the fact is
- 16:32Speaker 2: they don't care about your needs.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You're going to be hearing from me.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Great. You call me up and let me know that you,
- 16:40Speaker 1: you know.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I tell you what, I'm going to come over to
- 16:42Speaker 2: your restaurant tonight, Ted, before you leave for Europe on
- 16:45Speaker 2: whatever magic carpet you're able.
- 16:46Speaker 1: To rent, and I'll have myself a Ted.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It's the Phil Henry Show.
- 16:50Speaker 1: All right, here's Tampa on the Phil Henry Show.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Hello.
- 16:52Speaker 7: Yeah, hi.
- 16:54Speaker 1: First of all.
- 16:55Speaker 6: You have no medical knowledge. There are thousands and millions
- 16:58Speaker 6: of celibates in the world that are doing quite well.
- 17:01Speaker 3: They're backed up.
- 17:01Speaker 6: And at 80 years, am I on the air?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am, you are. Rudy, I would appreciate it if
- 17:06Speaker 1: you let the lady finish.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I'm trying to say that these men are backed up.
- 17:08Speaker 7: Oh, I'm so angry at him.
- 17:09Speaker 3: What?
- 17:10Speaker 6: I think he's so outrageously ignorant.
- 17:12Speaker 3: No, ma'am, I am trying to save the life of
- 17:14Speaker 3: a beloved man. Oh!
- 17:16Speaker 6: Why don't you go save your own life and learn
- 17:18Speaker 6: some medical knowledge before you start talking the way you are?
- 17:21Speaker 6: You know absolutely nothing.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You are not the doctor. Hmm? You are not the doctor.
- 17:26Speaker 6: I'm an RN, and I've been a geriatric nurse for
- 17:30Speaker 6: 30 years, and I know.
- 17:31Speaker 3: So, you have been in a room late at night.
- 17:33Speaker 6: And I was in the conference 21 years in celibate
- 17:35Speaker 6: before I got married.
- 17:37Speaker 3: No wonder you are like you are. You are pruned
- 17:39Speaker 3: up and you are dried up.
- 17:40Speaker 6: You have problems that I'm like I am.
- 17:41Speaker 3: You're all angry.
- 17:42Speaker 6: I have two wonderful kids.
- 17:43Speaker 3: You're angry.
- 17:44Speaker 6: A grandchild. I'm very angry at you.
- 17:45Speaker 3: You're filled with anger.
- 17:47Speaker 6: I'm angry at you.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I am saying to you, as a registered nurse, I'm
- 17:51Speaker 3: sure you know what AstroGlide is. Yeah, but listen, I'm
- 17:55Speaker 3: going to tell you. You know what AstroGlide is, right?
- 17:56Speaker 6: You need to get your act together, and I don't.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Want to talk any further than you. I have got
- 18:00Speaker 3: my act together. I think you ought to get off
- 18:02Speaker 3: the air. Training, import, export, business.
- 18:03Speaker 6: People don't even need to hear.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Any more of your nonsense.
- 18:05Speaker 6: The pump is backed up.
- 18:06Speaker 2: You know, you're saying that the Pope is backed up,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and this lady said there is no medical basis in that, okay?
- 18:12Speaker 1: The fact that you can be celibate for... How long
- 18:14Speaker 1: were you celibate, ma'am?
- 18:15Speaker 6: May 21st. I entered the convent at 16 and left
- 18:19Speaker 6: at 36.
- 18:19Speaker 3: And you left why? Because you were backed up. Listen
- 18:22Speaker 3: to the language of this woman. Yeah. You were in
- 18:25Speaker 3: the convent.
- 18:26Speaker 6: That's just what it is.
- 18:26Speaker 3: But you were in the convent for 21 years.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Oh, but you're so holy, you go to Mass every
- 18:30Speaker 6: other day.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I go to Mass every day.
- 18:31Speaker 6: You want to talk to a priest about this.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I take communion. I am saying that you were in
- 18:35Speaker 3: the convent for 21 years, and you got out. And why?
- 18:38Speaker 3: Because your pipes need cleaning.
- 18:41Speaker 6: No, ma'am. That is not why I left.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I left.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I gave enough years to the church. And I left
- 18:48Speaker 6: for other reasons.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Not for that. You can go to hell. You can
- 18:51Speaker 3: go to hell for leaving the convent. You know that,
- 18:53Speaker 3: don't you?
- 18:53Speaker 6: Oh, you're full of it.
- 18:54Speaker 3: No, you can't. You can go to hell because you
- 18:56Speaker 3: lied to God.
- 18:56Speaker 8: Yeah, you lied to Father.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Don't forget that, sir.
- 18:58Speaker 3: You got divorced from Jesus.
- 19:00Speaker 6: I'm not going to go to hell. I've done more good.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Outside the convent than I did in the convent. You
- 19:04Speaker 3: are the bride of Jesus and you divorced him.
- 19:05Speaker 6: I took care of my patients with love.
- 19:07Speaker 3: You're going to go to hell.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Echo Park on the Phil Henry Show. Hello.
- 19:37Speaker 8: Yeah, hi.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Hi.
- 19:39Speaker 4: My name is Angela, and I'm just... I'm so completely
- 19:44Speaker 4: horrified by this woman who... you know, instead of being interested, Bobby, darling,
- 19:56Speaker 4: you need mental health care.
- 19:58Speaker 8: Why? Because I love my children?
- 20:00Speaker 7: Because I love my children.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Instead of trying to make your children into a miniature
- 20:07Speaker 4: has-been group, you You don't even know what it is
- 20:11Speaker 4: that they're good at. You're worried about them embarrassing you
- 20:15Speaker 4: in gellisons of all the places. Ma'am, the most important
- 20:21Speaker 4: thing for you to be doing for them.
- 20:23Speaker 7: I don't understand.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Listen to this lady. She's making some good points. Go ahead, ma'am.
- 20:28Speaker 4: The most important thing for you to be doing for
- 20:31Speaker 4: them is to not be sitting them in front of
- 20:34Speaker 4: a PlayStation, encouraging them to read, encouraging them to write,
- 20:40Speaker 4: encouraging whatever athletic abilities they have. If they had a
- 20:45Speaker 4: weight problem, get them in a pool.
- 20:47Speaker 7: Well, they don't have the weight problem anymore, thanks to Herbalife.
- 20:52Speaker 7: Get them playing baseball, soccer. No, we can't do that.
- 20:56Speaker 8: When some kind of athletic activity can raise their.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Metabolism so that they can lose weight naturally, encourage them
- 21:06Speaker 4: to be the best, most productive kids that they can
- 21:10Speaker 4: be instead.
- 21:12Speaker 7: Of being future candidates for some psychiatrist's children through college. What?
- 21:21Speaker 7: You heard me.
- 21:23Speaker 3: No, I didn't.
- 21:25Speaker 1: What did you say? I heard something about inner-city children.
- 21:27Speaker 7: I didn't do anything.
- 21:29Speaker 3: What?
- 21:31Speaker 1: You said something about inner-city children. What was it?
- 21:36Speaker 7: I don't know what you're talking about. All I'm saying is.
- 21:38Speaker 4: She is ashamed to repeat it, Phil.
- 21:42Speaker 3: What?
- 21:43Speaker 4: She is ashamed to repeat it.
- 21:44Speaker 7: No, I didn't say... I'm saying that.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I heard inner-city children and black people. Now, what did
- 21:50Speaker 1: you say?
- 21:53Speaker 7: I was simply saying that when I looked down at
- 21:55Speaker 7: Seth when he was born and he looked like a
- 21:57Speaker 7: little ball, he was a fat little ball of flesh,
- 22:02Speaker 7: and it took every ounce of strength in me not
- 22:05Speaker 7: to push a hand towel into his mouth.
- 22:09Speaker 1: What?
- 22:10Speaker 7: Are you kidding me? Are you serious?
- 22:13Speaker 4: Are you serious? You need to be locked away from
- 22:16Speaker 4: your children.
- 22:18Speaker 8: My God, how could you say something like that?
- 22:21Speaker 7: I love my children. How dare you?
- 22:23Speaker 3: Well, wait a minute. How dare you?
- 22:25Speaker 7: How dare you say that?
- 22:26Speaker 1: Wait a second. You're the one that said you wanted
- 22:28Speaker 1: to put a hand towel in his mouth.
- 22:30Speaker 7: He was a little ball of flesh. So he's a baby.
- 22:34Speaker 7: He was a ball of fat. He is that flesh.
- 22:36Speaker 7: He was a ball of fat.
- 22:38Speaker 8: Okay, look, if in fact you claim to be.
- 22:40Speaker 4: A Christian, don't you believe that if God.
- 22:45Speaker 8: Meant for him to be born some kind.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Of a skinny worm-looking thing, he would have looked like that?
- 22:51Speaker 7: You know something?
- 22:51Speaker 3: I was in such pain.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Babies are born like that.
- 22:54Speaker 7: God gives them a reserve of fat for a reason.
- 22:57Speaker 7: What is your name? What's your name?
- 22:59Speaker 4: My name is Angela.
- 23:00Speaker 7: Angela, I'm Bobby. I was in such pain when I
- 23:02Speaker 7: looked down at Seth. Bobby, honey. I wanted to pinch
- 23:05Speaker 7: his nose off and shove a towel down his throat.
- 23:08Speaker 7: Just like I said before, Bobby.
- 23:10Speaker 4: You need mental health care.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Why?
- 23:14Speaker 7: I'm so happy now. I wanted to put a clothespin
- 23:17Speaker 7: on his nose. I really did.
- 23:19Speaker 4: You need to put a clothespin on your own nose.
- 23:21Speaker 7: Oh, that's nice. What would that do?
- 23:24Speaker 3: What'd she say?
- 23:25Speaker 7: She said I should put a clothespin on my own nose.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Who are you to talk that way to my wife?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Wait a minute, is that your husband?
- 23:31Speaker 7: It's my husband.
- 23:32Speaker 3: You can't talk to my wife that way.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I most certainly can, and I just did.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Why'd you put clothespins on your own nose?
- 23:39Speaker 4: Because I'm not threatening to kill my three children by
- 23:43Speaker 4: putting a pillow over their faces because they were chubby.
- 23:46Speaker 7: I only put clothespins... I was only thinking... Whatever. You know,
- 23:51Speaker 7: the only time I ever put clothespins on anything were
- 23:53Speaker 7: on my husband's nipples, and that's seriously, you know? And
- 23:57Speaker 7: to think about doing that to your own child, you
- 23:59Speaker 7: worry about yourself. Yes, you do.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You're right, Angela.
- 24:03Speaker 7: Now she's laughing at me.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Okay, Angela, thank you for your call. Phil Henry, flashback there.
