- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, this is Doug Bradley, pinhead from the Hellraiser Films.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You better keep listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Or I will tear your soul apart.
- 0:26Speaker 4: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:29Speaker 4: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:33Speaker 4: and parental discretion is advised. It's showtime, folks.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Enjoy the show.
- 0:50Speaker 6: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:38Speaker 7: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian and.
- 1:40Speaker 8: This week we are coming to you live via digital
- 1:42Speaker 8: recording from the floor once again as we rejoin our
- 1:45Speaker 8: very casual hangout session with our special guest co-host Doug Jones. Yes,
- 1:49Speaker 8: this week we are rejoining Doug from last episode. So
- 1:52Speaker 8: if you haven't listened to that one yet, go back
- 1:54Speaker 8: and listen to episode 318 to hear the rest of
- 1:56Speaker 8: our conversation with Doug about his career, wearing crazy makeup appliances,
- 2:00Speaker 8: and listening to Guillermo del Toro curse charmingly all the time.
- 2:04Speaker 7: But that was last week.
- 2:05Speaker 8: This episode we're back to settle in for a full
- 2:08Speaker 8: Sofa Theater Feature movie discussion of Doug's pick, Meet Joe Black.
- 2:12Speaker 8: So let's go there now as Anthony, Alec, and myself
- 2:14Speaker 8: get cozy with Doug on the carpet and talk about
- 2:16Speaker 8: a movie where the embodiment of death itself asks the
- 2:18Speaker 8: ultimate question.
- 2:19Speaker 7: What is love? Baby, don't hurt me. Don't hurt me
- 2:25Speaker 7: no more. Baby, don't hurt me.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Don't hurt me no more.
- 2:52Speaker 8: You normally are sharing space and hugs with Lucy, the
- 2:57Speaker 8: beloved Lucy, which it's not just you that wants to
- 3:00Speaker 8: hug her.
- 3:00Speaker 7: Everybody on the internet loves Lucy, too.
- 3:02Speaker 8: Now, I thought this was odd timing and placement. You
- 3:06Speaker 8: come here to her home state. She is currently in
- 3:10Speaker 8: Los Angeles.
- 3:10Speaker 9: Oh, where I, my home state.
- 3:12Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 3:12Speaker 7: So, yeah, she is, she is.
- 3:14Speaker 8: So, in case anybody wondered, why is Lucy not hanging
- 3:16Speaker 8: out with Doug like she really wants to be? She
- 3:18Speaker 8: was not happy with this timing, but she had grown
- 3:21Speaker 8: up things she had to go do in LA.
- 3:23Speaker 7: Lame.
- 3:25Speaker 8: I'm back like I always am, but that's why Lucy
- 3:27Speaker 8: is missing.
- 3:28Speaker 9: We have these two puppies, and they're precious.
- 3:31Speaker 10: Right?
- 3:32Speaker 7: If you say so. I just drug them over here.
- 3:37Speaker 7: On that note, should we roll into the movie?
- 3:40Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 12: Lads, yes.
- 3:42Speaker 9: Meet Joe Black. Oh, my God.
- 3:44Speaker 13: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 3:48Speaker 12: 65 years. Don't they go by in a blink?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Your death... Yes.
- 4:10Speaker 12: You're not dead.
- 4:10Speaker 14: You're just a kid in a suit.
- 4:12Speaker 12: The suit came with the body I took.
- 4:15Speaker 14: You want me to be your guy.
- 4:17Speaker 12: I wish to see the world. Mr. Parrish, will the
- 4:20Speaker 12: gentleman be staying for dinner, sir? Yes.
- 4:25Speaker 14: If I say who you are, I don't think anyone will.
- 4:27Speaker 12: Stay for dinner.
- 4:28Speaker 9: Does your friend have a name?
- 4:29Speaker 12: I'm sorry, this is Joe.
- 4:32Speaker 15: Incidentally, Joe what?
- 4:33Speaker 12: Black. Have we met? He's from out of town. Let
- 4:37Speaker 12: me ask your opinion. Do I blend in? This is crazy.
- 4:41Speaker 9: You're married, aren't you?
- 4:42Speaker 12: No, I'm not. Gay. What is that? Peanut butter, sir.
- 4:49Speaker 12: I thoroughly enjoy this peanut butter.
- 4:51Speaker 14: This is Joe Black.
- 4:52Speaker 12: He'll be joining us this morning.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Our sole order of business today is an acceptance of
- 4:56Speaker 4: John Bonacue's generous offer.
- 4:58Speaker 12: I need more of these delicious cookies. And a cup
- 5:00Speaker 12: of tea with milk, please. Is there anything else, Mr.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Black?
- 5:03Speaker 12: You like him, don't you? Yeah, I guess you do. Why, yes.
- 5:06Speaker 12: In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes.
- 5:09Speaker 12: Death and taxes? Yes. What an odd pairing. Who is
- 5:12Speaker 12: Joe Black? He sleeps at Bill's house. He never leaves
- 5:15Speaker 12: his side. I have this big feeling of my need.
- 5:18Speaker 14: You walk into my life, give me the worst news
- 5:20Speaker 14: a guy can get, and now you're spooning with my daughter?
- 5:22Speaker 12: I love him.
- 5:23Speaker 16: I don't care if you love him!
- 5:24Speaker 12: Easy, Bill. You'll give yourself a heart attack and ruin
- 5:27Speaker 12: my vacation. Universal Pictures presents.
- 5:30Speaker 17: I'm in love with a man, but I don't know
- 5:33Speaker 17: who he is.
- 5:34Speaker 12: Brad Pitt. What I know is what I want. And
- 5:36Speaker 12: what I want is Susan.
- 5:37Speaker 14: You're violating the laws of the universe.
- 5:39Speaker 12: Anthony Hopkins.
- 5:40Speaker 9: You're at the.
- 5:41Speaker 14: Wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong woman.
- 5:42Speaker 12: Are you threatening me? Yeah, I certainly hope so. And
- 5:45Speaker 12: Claire Forlani. I want to be with you, Joe. In
- 5:48Speaker 12: a Martin Brest film. The time has come to tell
- 5:50Speaker 12: you who I am.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Joe, I'm afraid.
- 5:57Speaker 12: What's going on, Joe?
- 6:01Speaker 9: I feel like we're lifting off.
- 6:06Speaker 8: So, this week's Sofa Theater feature is Meet Joe Black,
- 6:09Speaker 8: the year is 1998, director Martin Brest, and the plot,
- 6:14Speaker 8: according to IMDb, is Death, who takes the form of
- 6:17Speaker 8: a young man, asks a media mogul to act as
- 6:20Speaker 8: his guide to teach him about life on Earth, and
- 6:23Speaker 8: in the process, he falls in love with his guide's
- 6:26Speaker 8: daughter or something to that effect.
- 6:28Speaker 9: So.
- 6:28Speaker 16: That is the plot of the movie.
- 6:30Speaker 7: Yeah, no, it kind of breaks it all down.
- 6:31Speaker 16: Yeah, that's what IMDb said.
- 6:32Speaker 9: This guy's daughter or something.
- 6:34Speaker 7: Something all around.
- 6:35Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 8: Yeah, that's why you steer clear of most other things
- 6:38Speaker 8: on IMDb. Just read that basic stuff and then move on.
- 6:41Speaker 9: And you're all good.
- 6:43Speaker 7: So where would you like to begin? This was, once again,
- 6:46Speaker 7: your choice.
- 6:47Speaker 9: It was my choice, yes.
- 6:48Speaker 8: Have you been taken with this film since you first
- 6:50Speaker 8: saw it?
- 6:52Speaker 9: Absolutely.
- 6:52Speaker 10: Yes.
- 6:55Speaker 9: Now, mind you, I think the first time I was
- 6:57Speaker 9: on your show, we talked about Somewhere in Time.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Somewhere in Time.
- 7:01Speaker 9: Which, again, is well outside my genre. And it was
- 7:04Speaker 9: just the most syrupy, sweet, romantic movie ever. Me and
- 7:08Speaker 9: Joe Black kind of falls in that category for me, too.
- 7:10Speaker 7: I noticed you kind of have a theme going.
- 7:12Speaker 9: Right, right. I like swelling music. I like beautiful people
- 7:17Speaker 9: falling in love on film. Is there anything wrong with that?
- 7:21Speaker 12: No.
- 7:21Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 7:22Speaker 16: I'm a big fan of both of those things. Thank you.
- 7:24Speaker 9: Good, good.
- 7:25Speaker 8: One of the first things, one of my first comments
- 7:27Speaker 8: I made to myself as we're sort of watching the
- 7:29Speaker 8: coffee shop unfold, and I'm like, wow.
- 7:31Speaker 12: Claire Follani, she's really pretty.
- 7:33Speaker 8: And then Brad comes in, and I'm like, you know,
- 7:35Speaker 8: Brad's really pretty.
- 7:36Speaker 7: I was like, this is a story about pretty, pretty people.
- 7:39Speaker 9: Pretty, pretty people.
- 7:40Speaker 16: And Anthony Hopkins. And Anthony Hopkins.
- 7:42Speaker 8: Pretty sex and pretty, pretty music.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Right, right, right, right, right, right.
- 7:47Speaker 9: And of course, I have a semi-connection to some people
- 7:53Speaker 9: in the movie. Okay.
- 7:54Speaker 8: Did you work with the director? Because last time around,
- 7:57Speaker 8: you worked with the director of our film.
- 7:59Speaker 7: What was the last one? Last time was Silver Lanes Playbook.
- 8:02Speaker 7: And you were a dead guy. Have you been a
- 8:04Speaker 7: dead guy in a Martin Press film?
- 8:06Speaker 16: Oh, right.
- 8:07Speaker 12: That's right.
- 8:09Speaker 9: Oh, great.
- 8:11Speaker 10: No, no.
- 8:12Speaker 8: Not a dead Iraqi in any of Martin Press films.
- 8:14Speaker 9: I've never worked with this particular director, no. But, of course,
- 8:18Speaker 9: Claire Forlani, we mentioned her, the stunning beauty that she is.
- 8:23Speaker 9: After Meet Joe Black, she played a waitress in a
- 8:26Speaker 9: movie called Mystery Men, in which I have a cameo
- 8:31Speaker 9: as Pencilhead in Mystery Men.
- 8:33Speaker 12: No.
- 8:34Speaker 9: No, we did not work on film together.
- 8:36Speaker 7: It just kicked in in Anthony. You should see his face.
- 8:39Speaker 9: No, we did not work together. We were in different days.
- 8:41Speaker 9: But the fact that I'm credited in a movie with
- 8:43Speaker 9: her was good enough for me. Then, let's see, then... Uh,
- 8:47Speaker 9: my connection with Brad Pitt. Oh, okay. Uh, uh, uh,
- 8:51Speaker 9: interview with the vampire, uh, 1994. We're going back a ways.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Yeah. That's what came out.
- 8:56Speaker 9: Uh, yeah, 94.
- 8:57Speaker 5: I think so.
- 8:58Speaker 9: Um, I was brought in last minute. I was working
- 9:01Speaker 9: on Tank Girl at the time. If you remember, you
- 9:03Speaker 9: saw Tank Girl. And the creature effects makeup company that
- 9:10Speaker 9: did the kangaroo guys that I was playing one of
- 9:12Speaker 9: in Tank Girl was Stan Winston Studios. They were also
- 9:15Speaker 9: doing the vampire makeups and all the creature effects on
- 9:18Speaker 9: Interview the Vampire. So they were doing... reshoot like pickup
- 9:22Speaker 9: shots for interview with vampire the same time at the
- 9:25Speaker 9: same time i had a week off from tank girl
- 9:27Speaker 9: and so the guys at the creature shop like doug
- 9:29Speaker 9: we need your hand they needed my right hand to
- 9:32Speaker 9: double for tom cruise in the very final scene of
- 9:35Speaker 9: the movie where uh uh brad or sorry christian slater
- 9:40Speaker 9: has been interviewing brad pitt for the entire film And
- 9:43Speaker 9: so now he's just been like, you know, he went
- 9:46Speaker 9: through it, he got crazy and said.
- 9:47Speaker 7: Make me a vampire, make me a vampire!
- 9:49Speaker 9: And then Brad Pitt scares him to death, and then
- 9:50Speaker 9: he gets back in his car and drives away across
- 9:53Speaker 9: the Golden Gate Bridge in his Mustang Convertible. From the
- 9:57Speaker 9: backseat comes a hand.
- 9:59Speaker 7: A creepy hand.
- 10:00Speaker 10: Hand.
- 10:01Speaker 9: Yes, that would be Tom Cruise's hand. But Lestat, at
- 10:04Speaker 9: that time that he was playing, hadn't sucked blood or
- 10:07Speaker 9: consumed any calories in many decades. So he was sickly
- 10:13Speaker 9: and withdrawn and skinny. So they were thinking, okay, Tom
- 10:16Speaker 9: Cruise's hand was too plump and young, and who could...
- 10:19Speaker 9: And what?
- 10:20Speaker 16: And Smalls.
- 10:21Speaker 9: And he's for them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what would
- 10:23Speaker 9: be a longer spindly, more sickly looking hand? Let's call Doug.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Yeah, right.
- 10:27Speaker 9: So that's why I got that call. And so they
- 10:29Speaker 9: put the vampire fingernails on me and veined me up
- 10:32Speaker 9: and made my tendons pop and all that. And so
- 10:34Speaker 9: I worked on that movie for two days, met Christian Slater,
- 10:37Speaker 9: Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt, who was absolutely delightful. I assume. Right.
- 10:42Speaker 9: So then four years later, then Meet Joe Black came out.
- 10:44Speaker 9: And you know what? I was tickled about Brad for
- 10:48Speaker 9: doing this movie. If you remember, he did a string.
- 10:51Speaker 9: He screamed onto the scene in Thumb on Louise. And
- 10:55Speaker 9: everybody was talking about what amazing abs he had. And
- 10:59Speaker 9: so he was really tired of answering that question on
- 11:01Speaker 9: red carpets. And an interviewer was like, do you have
- 11:03Speaker 9: a workout regime or what? So he was getting so,
- 11:07Speaker 9: and rightfully so. And he was like, okay, he wanted
- 11:09Speaker 9: to be taken as a serious.
- 11:10Speaker 7: I want to be more than my abs.
- 11:11Speaker 10: Right.
- 11:12Speaker 9: He wanted to be taken as a serious actor.
- 11:13Speaker 13: Right.
- 11:14Speaker 9: So he started dumbing down his look and uglying himself
- 11:19Speaker 9: up on purpose when he was like, remember 12 Monkeys?
- 11:21Speaker 8: He's awesome in 12 Monkeys.
- 11:23Speaker 9: He was awesome in, right. And so he was doing
- 11:26Speaker 9: things where he didn't want to take his shirt off
- 11:28Speaker 9: in the film. Meet Joe Black was a return to OMG,
- 11:33Speaker 9: that is the most pretty man on the freaking planet, right?
- 11:36Speaker 5: That's right.
- 11:37Speaker 16: Those abs exist. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:40Speaker 8: It's a tie with Legends of the Fall Brad Pitt,
- 11:43Speaker 8: who may be the prettiest Brad Pitt ever.
- 11:45Speaker 9: There was the long hair, the flake guy.
- 11:47Speaker 1: The undressing of Joe Black is really shot well.
- 11:52Speaker 7: And lengthy. Lengthy.
- 11:53Speaker 12: Right.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And eventually, they just make this eye contact, and it's
- 11:58Speaker 1: like this unspoken bond, and then he knows, like, Playing Death,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's like, oh, now I take my clothes off and
- 12:05Speaker 1: then I take yours off. But as the audience, when
- 12:08Speaker 1: you sit there and you can see just by their
- 12:09Speaker 1: facial expressions that this character, Death, who Brad Pitt's Joe
- 12:14Speaker 1: Black embodies, is getting to this realization of making a
- 12:17Speaker 1: human connection through physical intimacy.
- 12:20Speaker 10: Yes.
- 12:21Speaker 9: And it was innocent and gorgeous.
- 12:24Speaker 1: No music, too.
- 12:25Speaker 9: Right.
- 12:26Speaker 1: In the sex scene, no music.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Is that right?
- 12:27Speaker 9: Is that right? Oh, I didn't even, wasn't paying attention.
- 12:30Speaker 16: I was distracted.
- 12:32Speaker 8: Music?
- 12:32Speaker 16: Schmooze it.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. I mean, if I was Death Incarnate 2,
- 12:37Speaker 6: I'd probably pick Brad Pitt's body. That was the most
- 12:39Speaker 6: recent death around me.
- 12:40Speaker 8: Especially after it ping-ponged out in the middle of the street.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Speaking of, that death scene was very violent.
- 12:47Speaker 9: Was that a shocker? Because there's this beautiful coffee shop
- 12:50Speaker 9: scene that opens that relationship up. First of all, that's
- 12:54Speaker 9: the kind of coffee date I love having, where you
- 12:56Speaker 9: can just sit there and let the date tick on
- 12:58Speaker 9: And just get to know someone and sip a warm
- 13:00Speaker 9: brown drink. This is why this movie couldn't be long
- 13:04Speaker 9: enough for me. Three hours was not long enough. I
- 13:06Speaker 9: was just lapping up all of it. Because they would
- 13:11Speaker 9: set up those moods and moments that you just wanted
- 13:12Speaker 9: to live in. And that coffee shop, I lived in it.
- 13:16Speaker 9: And I've seen these two gorgeous people getting to know
- 13:19Speaker 9: each other. And there's a little spark of thing going on.
- 13:22Speaker 9: And even as they're finishing up and she's got to
- 13:27Speaker 9: get back to the hospital she's a doctor of course
- 13:30Speaker 9: and he's got to go on to wherever he's going
- 13:32Speaker 9: and and he's like saying well you know if we
- 13:35Speaker 9: were to get married you know it's just hypothetically nothing
- 13:38Speaker 9: wrong with a guy taking a man taking care of
- 13:40Speaker 9: a woman because she takes care of him well good
- 13:43Speaker 9: luck finding a woman like that and he said well
- 13:44Speaker 9: maybe lightning will strike which was a call back to
- 13:47Speaker 9: what her father had just said to her in the
- 13:48Speaker 9: helicopter uh over to the mainland that day or whatever
- 13:52Speaker 9: so uh it was just like ah Those moments are
- 13:55Speaker 9: so beautiful. So all this beauty, beauty, this slow pace,
- 14:00Speaker 9: this getting to know you, walking down the sidewalk, she
- 14:03Speaker 9: looks back, he doesn't see it. He looks back, she
- 14:05Speaker 9: doesn't see it. They look, she, he, she, he.
- 14:07Speaker 7: It's like four times.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Right, right.
- 14:09Speaker 7: It's crazy.
- 14:09Speaker 9: And you're sitting on edge of your seat going, someone
- 14:12Speaker 9: noticed that you guys are meant to be together.
- 14:13Speaker 7: Go back, go back, go back.
- 14:15Speaker 9: Right, right. And then all of a sudden it's like, oh,
- 14:17Speaker 9: I guess I could, boom, bam, bam.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:20Speaker 9: And he is like ping-ponged all over the freaking streets
- 14:23Speaker 9: of New York. Like, oh, oh, oh, my heart, my heart.
- 14:28Speaker 8: What's funny, and that's before I ever saw that movie,
- 14:31Speaker 8: and this was 98, so it was... pretty early into
- 14:35Speaker 8: the run of the internet and certainly far before most
- 14:38Speaker 8: of the social medias we have now yes i don't
- 14:40Speaker 8: know where it made its way out if it was
- 14:42Speaker 8: some sort of message board or something but they were
- 14:45Speaker 8: leaking well no they were leaking it as it was
- 14:47Speaker 8: an actual death like it was a faces of death
- 14:49Speaker 8: scene like watch this guy get hit by two cars
- 14:52Speaker 8: and like in that scene i don't know if it
- 14:54Speaker 8: had already hit dvd maybe but like somebody already just
- 14:58Speaker 8: taken that snippet It was far enough away from that
- 15:00Speaker 8: shot that you can't see it's Brad Pitt.
- 15:02Speaker 7: And they were just like, look at this guy, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 7: die on camera.
- 15:05Speaker 8: So, like, that was sort of my first introduction. Because,
- 15:09Speaker 8: of course, everybody has to be a jerk on the internet.
- 15:10Speaker 8: So the first comment is, like, that's from Meet Joe Black,
- 15:13Speaker 8: you idiot. Like, you know, it's like somebody busted him
- 15:15Speaker 8: the very first comment. So I'm just like, oh, that's
- 15:18Speaker 8: from Meet Joe Black. So now every time I watch it,
- 15:20Speaker 8: I'm like, that guy's not really dying.
- 15:21Speaker 7: It's Brad Pitt.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Brad Pitt.
- 15:23Speaker 9: You can't trick me.
- 15:24Speaker 16: Oh, I see.
- 15:25Speaker 9: Nothing gets past Brian.
- 15:26Speaker 8: But the early phases of the internet there, that was interesting.
- 15:31Speaker 12: It was.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 9: And so then from there, of course, Anthony Hopkins. Can
- 15:37Speaker 9: we talk about him for a minute? I often get asked,
- 15:40Speaker 9: who are my favorite actors ever, ever, ever? In the
- 15:45Speaker 9: older sets. Anthony Hopkins is, is the, the, the older
- 15:49Speaker 9: actor I look up to. I've never seen him give a, a,
- 15:53Speaker 9: a slumpy performance ever. He is always on point and
- 15:57Speaker 9: he always is engages and draws me in and gosh,
- 16:00Speaker 9: no exception here. I like, he was just mesmerizing as
- 16:03Speaker 9: this man turning 65 years old and, and, and facing
- 16:08Speaker 9: his own death and his own mortality and, and trying
- 16:11Speaker 9: to leave some kind of legacy on for his kids and,
- 16:14Speaker 9: and doing that, that thing that, a real family dynamic
- 16:18Speaker 9: with Marsha Gay Harden playing the older sister who was
- 16:21Speaker 9: the by the book and by the rules and daddy, daddy,
- 16:24Speaker 9: this and daddy, we have to do this and this
- 16:26Speaker 9: and that and Claire Farlani being the younger, more free
- 16:28Speaker 9: spirit one. And, of course, the parents not being allowed
- 16:32Speaker 9: to have a favorite, but he kind of had a favorite.
- 16:34Speaker 16: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:34Speaker 7: That happens in a lot of families.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It happens.
- 16:37Speaker 5: I know.
- 16:39Speaker 9: I'm a favorite myself.
- 16:40Speaker 16: I totally understand.
- 16:41Speaker 7: I am not the favorite. I'm no one's favorite.
- 16:44Speaker 16: Who plays his son-in-law?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Jeffrey Tambor.
- 16:46Speaker 16: Tambor, yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 9: That is my third connection to the film. Of course,
- 16:50Speaker 9: we worked together on Hellboy 1 and 2.
- 16:52Speaker 5: He was.
- 16:53Speaker 9: He was, oh gosh, agent. He was the head of
- 16:57Speaker 9: the BPRD, which is our FBI sort of division of
- 17:01Speaker 9: the government that we work for, and the Hellboy team.
- 17:04Speaker 9: So getting to know him. And I was able to
- 17:06Speaker 9: ask him, of course, Meet Joe Black being in my
- 17:09Speaker 9: top five favorite movies of all time, working on Hellboy 2,
- 17:12Speaker 9: I finally had the gumption to fanboy on him for
- 17:15Speaker 9: a minute and say, Jeffrey, please tell me, please tell me,
- 17:17Speaker 9: please tell me, what was it like working on Meet
- 17:20Speaker 9: Joe frickin' Black?
- 17:22Speaker 4: Right?
- 17:22Speaker 9: And he said to me, he said, oh, and you
- 17:26Speaker 9: could tell he loved getting asked this question. So he said,
- 17:28Speaker 9: that was the most luxurious, lavish film I've ever worked on.
- 17:35Speaker 9: And he's not just the story, but the setting he
- 17:38Speaker 9: got to play in every day. The catering was even
- 17:40Speaker 9: up a notch. His co-stars, the costumes, the architecture of
- 17:48Speaker 9: the locations he was in. everything was just lavish and luxurious.
- 17:53Speaker 9: And so I was like, oh, God, that just sounds
- 17:55Speaker 9: dreamy as I'm getting my makeup on for the 40th
- 17:58Speaker 9: time that month.
- 17:59Speaker 7: Seven hours getting your makeup on.
- 18:01Speaker 9: You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, about to go,
- 18:03Speaker 9: you know, kill tooth fairies and whatnot. I don't know.
- 18:05Speaker 9: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:06Speaker 16: Yeah, it was just nice to.
- 18:07Speaker 7: We all have those days.
- 18:08Speaker 9: That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. So I was just
- 18:11Speaker 9: so nice to hear that, that it was as dreamy
- 18:14Speaker 9: as I thought it was, you know.
- 18:16Speaker 7: It's like existing in the world in the movie.
- 18:19Speaker 8: Like, they really, it's almost so to the point of
- 18:22Speaker 8: excess in everything they do, especially with the party concerned.
- 18:26Speaker 7: It's like, it's kind of ridiculous.
- 18:28Speaker 9: But he's super uber wealthy, right? He certainly is. There's
- 18:33Speaker 9: no concern for cost, right? He's turning 65.
- 18:35Speaker 7: That's a landmark birthday.
- 18:37Speaker 16: Celebrate.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Right?
- 18:40Speaker 7: Right?
- 18:40Speaker 9: Bring in build sets in your backyard.
- 18:42Speaker 7: I don't have enough fireworks on my birthday. That's all
- 18:44Speaker 7: I'm going to do.
- 18:44Speaker 9: Yeah, no, the fireworks were fake, I think. That was
- 18:47Speaker 9: one thing I look at. Do they go that full,
- 18:49Speaker 9: that rich, that long?
- 18:50Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 18:51Speaker 9: You'd have to.
- 18:53Speaker 6: It happened to fall on the 4th of July or something.
- 18:56Speaker 9: There were other shows going on around the area. I
- 18:57Speaker 9: don't know. Oh, but the party. His speech at the party.
- 19:05Speaker 9: If I'm ever given a microphone on my 65th birthday,
- 19:09Speaker 9: I hope that I'm half as eloquent as Anthony Hopkins.
- 19:11Speaker 7: I'm making a note. I have microphones. We can make
- 19:13Speaker 7: this happen. We can make this happen.
- 19:17Speaker 9: My 65th, bring microphones.
- 19:19Speaker 7: I can do that.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You know, he blows the candle and says, I'm going
- 19:22Speaker 1: to tell you my wish, and his wish comes true.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:26Speaker 16: Right.
- 19:26Speaker 9: Oh, great.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Or at least it's alluded to.
- 19:30Speaker 5: It comes true.
- 19:31Speaker 9: Right. Yeah, I liked how he said, what did he
- 19:34Speaker 9: say when he blew out his candle and what his
- 19:36Speaker 9: wish was? The wording was so beautiful.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Each moment golden.
- 19:41Speaker 9: It was a short speech. It was a short speech,
- 19:43Speaker 9: but it was so beautifully, again, the writing. The writing
- 19:47Speaker 9: of this movie just grabs me so much. I wish
- 19:51Speaker 9: I could quote what he said there about... That.
- 19:54Speaker 5: If he left today, it.
- 19:58Speaker 9: Would all have been so worth it or so.
- 20:03Speaker 7: Which is the kind of thing people say.
- 20:04Speaker 8: He's had enough.
- 20:05Speaker 7: He's lived enough. You know, I've lived my life to
- 20:07Speaker 7: the fullest.
- 20:08Speaker 8: But it's rare that they know that they're actually, you know,
- 20:11Speaker 8: unless you have a terminal disease. It's like it's rare
- 20:14Speaker 8: that you actually know your end point. So it is
- 20:18Speaker 8: for us, the audience, knowing that that's coming. Like it's
- 20:21Speaker 8: kind of, I guess it has that extra weight to it.
- 20:24Speaker 9: Weight to it.
- 20:25Speaker 10: Right.
- 20:25Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 20:25Speaker 7: There's a speech.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Oh, here's the speech. Got it.
- 20:29Speaker 9: Hang on.
- 20:30Speaker 5: Can I make it bigger?
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 20:32Speaker 12: Read it.
- 20:33Speaker 9: Okay. I can't do the Anthony Hopkins voice. What a
- 20:38Speaker 9: glorious night. Every face I see is a memory. Isn't
- 20:41Speaker 9: this beautiful?
- 20:42Speaker 3: Isn't this gorgeous?
- 20:44Speaker 9: It may not be a perfectly perfect memory. Sometimes we
- 20:48Speaker 9: had our ups and downs, but we're all together in
- 20:52Speaker 9: your mind for a night. Isn't that beautiful? Your mind
- 20:56Speaker 9: for a night. That's how I feel about any guests
- 20:57Speaker 9: who've ever shown up at any party.
- 20:59Speaker 10: I've blown.
- 21:01Speaker 9: And I'm going to break precedent and tell you what
- 21:03Speaker 9: my one candle wish was. That you would have a
- 21:08Speaker 9: life as lucky as mine when you can wake up
- 21:12Speaker 9: one morning and say, I don't want anything more. That's
- 21:15Speaker 9: the quote I was looking for. I don't want anything more.
- 21:17Speaker 9: 65 years, don't they go by in a blink. Isn't
- 21:23Speaker 9: that a beautiful, beautiful speech?
- 21:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 9: Yeah, so I hope that I can one day wake
- 21:29Speaker 9: up and say I want for nothing more.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Hopkins delivers it so genuinely.
- 21:33Speaker 9: So genuinely. He's just got that way of, it's not
- 21:36Speaker 9: rehearsed or written, it's coming from his heart.
- 21:39Speaker 5: It's super relaxed, too.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Right?
- 21:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Just like his body positioning, kind of hunched forward, but
- 21:44Speaker 1: still looking forward, his tone, everything about it.
- 21:47Speaker 9: Yeah, and he actually thinks of what he's saying. Yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 9: he finds it within his own mind.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Desires, you know.
- 21:53Speaker 9: I love him. I just love him.
- 21:54Speaker 16: He's so convincing.
- 21:55Speaker 6: Like, even, you know, as a serial killer, I would
- 21:57Speaker 6: have let him kill me.
- 21:58Speaker 16: Right, right, right, yeah.
- 22:01Speaker 9: Hannibal, I'm yours.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Right, exactly.
- 22:03Speaker 9: Now I met Anthony Hopkins as well. I told him
- 22:05Speaker 9: I'm connected to this movie. Because I remember the movie Hannibal,
- 22:09Speaker 9: which was the Science of the Limbs follow-up. I was actually.
- 22:15Speaker 12: In that movie.
- 22:15Speaker 9: Now, you don't know this. It's one of these lesser-known
- 22:18Speaker 9: trivia things about Dougie Jones. But, um, Gary Oldman played
- 22:23Speaker 9: Mason Verger in Hannibal, who was the disfigured, the one
- 22:28Speaker 9: living victim of Hannibal's, right? Who survived an attack.
- 22:33Speaker 16: The pigs, right?
- 22:35Speaker 9: He ended up meeting his death with the pigs. But
- 22:39Speaker 9: he had been attacked by Hannibal prior to the movie beginning.
- 22:42Speaker 9: And so he's kind of out for revenge. He's the one,
- 22:45Speaker 9: I think in Hannibal, they were trying to, position him
- 22:49Speaker 9: in a way to lure Hannibal out of the shadows.
- 22:54Speaker 9: And so anyway, Gary Oldman, it was a humongous makeup
- 22:58Speaker 9: to make him all disfigured. And so being a skinny
- 23:02Speaker 9: person that they can make me into anybody they want,
- 23:04Speaker 9: I was a double for him because you have a
- 23:08Speaker 9: star of that, that stature. You don't want to make
- 23:12Speaker 9: him put that makeup on every day. If it's behind,
- 23:15Speaker 9: if it's an over the shoulder, if it's a wide shot,
- 23:17Speaker 9: if it's an hand insert, They wanted to have somebody
- 23:19Speaker 9: just on backup. And I happened to be free and
- 23:22Speaker 9: unemployed that summer. So I was like, sure, I'll do it.
- 23:25Speaker 9: So again, the Creature Effects makeup people came to me
- 23:27Speaker 9: and said, would you, could you? And so I did.
- 23:32Speaker 9: And I ended up, Gary Oldman being a consummate pro
- 23:34Speaker 9: that he is, he didn't allow me to do anything.
- 23:37Speaker 9: One day they wrapped him too early. And I got
- 23:40Speaker 9: onto the set for about 20 minutes to do a
- 23:43Speaker 9: big wide shot under mosquito netting in his bedroom. when
- 23:46Speaker 9: Julianne Moore comes in to meet him for the first time.
- 23:49Speaker 9: So her entrance, and then I delivered a couple lines.
- 23:52Speaker 9: But I was ready with dialogue and rehearsed action every
- 23:56Speaker 9: day in case Gary didn't want to do something. But
- 23:59Speaker 9: he hated having me around because he didn't like having
- 24:02Speaker 9: a double. He seems pretty.
- 24:03Speaker 7: Amazing and dedicated.
- 24:05Speaker 9: Yeah, he wanted to own his part, which I do
- 24:07Speaker 9: not blame him for. I had a lovely vacation in Asheville,
- 24:10Speaker 9: North Carolina.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Oh, is that where it was filmed?
- 24:13Speaker 9: At the Biltmore Estate. That's where the Mason Verger house was,
- 24:17Speaker 9: was the Biltmore Estate. So it was like a tourist landmark.
- 24:21Speaker 9: And that's where I was for three weeks. Not bad.
- 24:23Speaker 9: Not a bad gig. You know what I'm saying? Lots
- 24:25Speaker 9: of mansions, apparently, that you're... I love the mansion work.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 24:31Speaker 9: My motif.
- 24:33Speaker 5: That's good.
- 24:34Speaker 9: So meeting Anthony, just briefly on that, I didn't really
- 24:38Speaker 9: have interaction with him, but he was just delightful. So, again,
- 24:42Speaker 9: Meet Joe Black has all kinds of like, aw, aw, aw, aw,
- 24:45Speaker 9: in it for me.
- 24:46Speaker 7: These are all my friends.
- 24:47Speaker 1: People I've worked with, I know, I know, I know.
- 24:51Speaker 7: So we haven't really addressed the entrance.
- 24:53Speaker 8: Of death or Brad or whatever he becomes.
- 24:56Speaker 7: So I don't know that.
- 24:57Speaker 8: How does that, because to me that seems like such
- 24:59Speaker 8: an odd for this type of film and for this
- 25:03Speaker 8: like level of like money that they were throwing at
- 25:06Speaker 8: the screen and like probably going for a relatively mainstream audience.
- 25:10Speaker 8: This always seemed like a really odd turn to throw. Granted,
- 25:14Speaker 8: it's the premise they build the whole movie around, but
- 25:16Speaker 8: I'm like, it just seems very strange for, for the,
- 25:19Speaker 8: type of movie that they end up making by the
- 25:22Speaker 8: end of it.
- 25:23Speaker 9: Well, you know, apparently this was a sort of a
- 25:27Speaker 9: remake of an old movie called Death Takes a Holiday.
- 25:30Speaker 9: And I never did see Death Takes a Holiday, so
- 25:32Speaker 9: I wish I had so I could talk intelligently about it.
- 25:36Speaker 9: So I think the story was out there already. And
- 25:40Speaker 9: I thought, again, much like Somewhere in Time, where it
- 25:43Speaker 9: was this sicky-sweet romantic movie with a science fiction element
- 25:46Speaker 9: of time travel in it, This is also a significant
- 25:49Speaker 9: romantic movie with an element of fantastical. The Grim Reaper
- 25:54Speaker 9: is like taking on human form to experience what humans
- 25:57Speaker 9: go through. He's been working with the people for a
- 26:00Speaker 9: long time. Now he wants to know what they feel like.
- 26:03Speaker 9: I don't really get them, but I take them.
- 26:04Speaker 7: Exactly. But I don't get them.
- 26:05Speaker 9: Now he wants to get them. And I think that's
- 26:07Speaker 9: a rather charming premise of a dastardly character, to want
- 26:11Speaker 9: to see what we see, do what we do, feel
- 26:14Speaker 9: what we feel. And he gets to do all that.
- 26:18Speaker 9: And again, like you said, I would pick Brad Pitt
- 26:21Speaker 9: to do that through too. You'd get the best of everything,
- 26:24Speaker 9: wouldn't you?
- 26:26Speaker 7: Especially at that point.
- 26:27Speaker 5: 98 Brad Pitt especially.
- 26:30Speaker 9: 98 Brad Pitt was... That's a fine looking man.
- 26:34Speaker 10: Okay.
- 26:36Speaker 7: But I like they still work in like the... scene
- 26:39Speaker 7: where he shows up in the library is super creepy.
- 26:43Speaker 8: Like, when he's just behind the translucent, like, you just
- 26:46Speaker 8: see the image, I'm like, that's really creepy. Again, for
- 26:49Speaker 8: a movie that's not really creepy, like, that moment's pretty creepy.
- 26:53Speaker 14: The great Bill Parrish at a loss for words. The
- 26:57Speaker 14: man from whose lips fall rapture and passion and obsession.
- 27:01Speaker 14: All those admonitions about being deliriously happy. What there is
- 27:05Speaker 14: no sense living your life without. All the sparks and
- 27:08Speaker 14: energy you give off, the rosy advice you dispense in
- 27:11Speaker 14: round pear-shaped tones.
- 27:15Speaker 12: What the hell is this?
- 27:19Speaker 14: Just think of millenniums multiplied by eons, compounded by time
- 27:23Speaker 14: without end. I've been around that long. But it's only
- 27:28Speaker 14: recently that your affairs here have piqued my interest. Call
- 27:33Speaker 14: it boredom. The natural curiosity of me, the most lasting
- 27:37Speaker 14: and significant element in existence, has come to see you.
- 27:44Speaker 5: About what?
- 27:47Speaker 14: I want to have a look around before I take you.
- 27:50Speaker 9: It had to be a bit foreboding, a bit threatening
- 27:52Speaker 9: in some way, because the stakes were rather high for
- 27:54Speaker 9: Anthony Hopkins' character. He had to have some fear built
- 27:58Speaker 9: into him, and he had to.
- 28:01Speaker 9: When you're facing your own death and he had to
- 28:03Speaker 9: have some reason to invite this Joe Black character into
- 28:07Speaker 9: the family. He was trying to save everyone and save
- 28:13Speaker 9: himself and give himself a couple more months so he
- 28:17Speaker 9: was willing to do whatever he had to. Making a
- 28:19Speaker 9: transition from owner of mega multimedia business, multi-billionaire guy who
- 28:26Speaker 9: doesn't have to answer to anybody really, Going from that
- 28:29Speaker 9: to now this is the guy he does have to
- 28:30Speaker 9: answer to. The only person he has to answer to.
- 28:33Speaker 9: So I think the scene had to have some creep,
- 28:35Speaker 9: had to have some foreboding, some darkness to it so
- 28:38Speaker 9: that we could see how a powerful, powerful independent man
- 28:41Speaker 9: like that would have to succumb to something, right? So
- 28:44Speaker 9: I think, yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 6: Well, I was confused too. So Death, I'm assuming, has
- 28:48Speaker 6: killed all of the people who have ever been people.
- 28:50Speaker 9: Ever been people, right.
- 28:51Speaker 16: He could not think of a name. for himself.
- 28:53Speaker 9: Isn't that precious?
- 28:54Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 9: So, yeah, when he's meeting the family, so what's your name?
- 29:00Speaker 9: So then Anthony Hopkins had to come in with Joe.
- 29:03Speaker 12: And then you got Jeffrey.
- 29:04Speaker 1: For somebody who's.
- 29:04Speaker 8: Been around for eons, like, he really doesn't seem to
- 29:08Speaker 8: get people at all. Like, even the basic, like, and
- 29:10Speaker 8: that's what I'll give credit to Brad Pitt. Like, he
- 29:13Speaker 8: really plays this weird, awkwardness it was like a child
- 29:17Speaker 8: every yeah it's childlike but at the same time it's
- 29:19Speaker 8: like painfully awkward because like everybody else is like just
- 29:24Speaker 8: does these things you know they walk in the room
- 29:26Speaker 8: they say hi but like even the way he walks
- 29:28Speaker 8: the way he holds his shoulders like he really did
- 29:31Speaker 8: kind of put a lot into just the the not
- 29:34Speaker 8: knowing how to position yourself and how to interact with
- 29:37Speaker 8: people at.
- 29:38Speaker 9: All without overdoing it yeah The peanut butter sequence.
- 29:42Speaker 7: The peanut butter sequence.
- 29:43Speaker 9: We talk about the peanut butter sequence. Death loves peanut butter.
- 29:47Speaker 9: I love peanut butter.
- 29:48Speaker 1: The noise that he makes when he first... It's like,
- 29:52Speaker 1: it is such like a human noise of him getting
- 29:54Speaker 1: used to this vessel that he's now occupying.
- 29:57Speaker 9: Yes, right. There's paste like clogging the top of his mouth.
- 30:00Speaker 9: What does he do?
- 30:02Speaker 7: Why would people eat it? Oh, wait. Like it kicks in.
- 30:05Speaker 5: No, no.
- 30:06Speaker 7: Okay, okay.
- 30:06Speaker 9: I love the innocence of going down to the servant's
- 30:08Speaker 9: quarters to find this out too. They all were like, yes, sir,
- 30:11Speaker 9: may we help you? And he didn't understand that like...
- 30:14Speaker 9: The hierarchy of the household. This was an odd visit.
- 30:17Speaker 7: These were just people.
- 30:19Speaker 9: More of those weird people. I had to learn from
- 30:20Speaker 9: them too. What's this brown thing you're spreading on bread?
- 30:23Speaker 9: I'd like a spoonful, thank you.
- 30:26Speaker 5: Charming.
- 30:26Speaker 9: I found myself smiling really big when I was watching
- 30:28Speaker 9: that scene in particular because it was just so... in
- 30:31Speaker 9: the innocence the childlike quality of it was you.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Know I think it may help because it's in this
- 30:37Speaker 8: world because I was thinking that like if everyone very
- 30:40Speaker 8: pleasantly indulges his awkwardness that like it again especially the
- 30:45Speaker 8: servants but again they're not really like as weirded out
- 30:48Speaker 8: as they probably would be in the room like who
- 30:50Speaker 8: is this guy but the servants have but even at
- 30:53Speaker 8: the table like the dinner table with the exception of
- 30:57Speaker 8: Drew who very quickly starts to dislike him But.
- 31:00Speaker 7: Everybody else is just so, like Jeffrey Denver is just
- 31:02Speaker 7: so willing.
- 31:03Speaker 1: To go along with this.
- 31:04Speaker 7: Joel, that's a nice name. Yeah, he's just so, yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 16: I love that name.
- 31:08Speaker 7: I love that name. Everybody's just so happy to see him. Like,
- 31:13Speaker 7: I don't know. I figure like in the real world,
- 31:14Speaker 7: people would be like, who is this guy? Why is
- 31:16Speaker 7: he at our dinner table?
- 31:17Speaker 8: Like, he just, they're very willing to accept him for
- 31:21Speaker 8: as odd as he is.
- 31:22Speaker 1: He's very handsome.
- 31:23Speaker 16: That helps, too.
- 31:24Speaker 7: Maybe that's why it doesn't sit well.
- 31:26Speaker 9: Doors would open for me, too, if I looked like that.
- 31:28Speaker 9: I'm just going to say it.
- 31:29Speaker 7: No wonder this doesn't make sense. I'm not Brad Pitt.
- 31:32Speaker 8: I have doors open all the time for Brad Pitt.
- 31:34Speaker 8: People just handing him spoons of peanut.
- 31:36Speaker 7: Butter everywhere he goes.
- 31:37Speaker 9: Right, exactly. I did like the Drew character. I can't
- 31:43Speaker 9: remember the actor's name now who played him.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Weber?
- 31:45Speaker 10: Weber.
- 31:46Speaker 16: He's always like the evil.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Yeah, he's always that.
- 31:48Speaker 9: Tom Huber.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Is that right? Okay.
- 31:51Speaker 9: Wasn't he like hateable? Yeah. Just that smarmy, slimy.
- 31:54Speaker 7: Even in the beginning. Yeah, before you knew you needed
- 31:57Speaker 7: to hate him. You're just like, I don't like this guy.
- 31:59Speaker 9: Right, a little bit too full of himself on the phone,
- 32:01Speaker 9: working business deals, yada, yada, yada.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Kissing her and not really even paying attention.
- 32:06Speaker 9: Yeah, not meaning it. Yeah, yeah. And seeing him get
- 32:11Speaker 9: his comeuppance at the end was lovely.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Lovely.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Lovely.
- 32:15Speaker 7: I feel like they just shoehorned that in.
- 32:17Speaker 8: The rest of the party could have ended without that scene,
- 32:20Speaker 8: but you know you'd be sitting there like, yeah, but.
- 32:22Speaker 7: That guy was still a jerk.
- 32:23Speaker 8: I really wish Anthony Hopkins would have told him off.
- 32:25Speaker 7: And they went, all right, we'll write that in.
- 32:27Speaker 9: So yeah, so he did.
- 32:28Speaker 7: We'll write that scene in. What is it, like 245? Yeah,
- 32:31Speaker 7: we'll put that in.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Don't worry about it.
- 32:33Speaker 16: We got time.
- 32:34Speaker 9: It's a three-hour movie.
- 32:36Speaker 5: We got time.
- 32:41Speaker 15: I would tell you that I love you tonight But
- 32:46Speaker 15: I know that I've got time on my.
- 32:49Speaker 17: Side Where you going?
- 32:52Speaker 15: Why you leaving so soon? Is there somewhere else that's

- 33:07Speaker 15: If it's not guaranteed? What is love if it just
- 33:12Speaker 15: stops and leaves?
- 33:15Speaker 7: What is love.
- 33:17Speaker 15: If you're not here no more?
- 33:20Speaker 3: What is love if you're not really sure?

- 34:44Speaker 10: Inspired by his grim associate of the French's, He wrote
- 34:47Speaker 10: the tender fantasy from which tonight's play, Death Takes a Holiday,
- 34:51Speaker 10: was adapted. Casella's regard of death as an almost physical being,
- 34:56Speaker 10: not cruel, but wise beyond understanding, may be interpreted in
- 35:01Speaker 10: the lines he once wrote to a friend. Speaking of death,
- 35:04Speaker 10: he said, Occasionally we felt his highness was on a vacation.
- 35:08Speaker 10: Many a time he willfully overlooked a comrade, later coming
- 35:12Speaker 10: back to escort someone else out of a tired, bleeding world.
- 35:16Speaker 10: Death often seemed human to me.

- 36:09Speaker 7: But I'll review some old 80s rom-coms for you. see
- 36:14Speaker 7: ya it had to be you.
- 36:19Speaker 1: It had to be.
- 36:20Speaker 11: You I wandered around and finally found the somebody who.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Could make me be true.
- 36:33Speaker 7: Could make me.
- 36:35Speaker 10: Be Three days have gone by, and the phantom death
- 36:40Speaker 10: is still a guest at the home of the Duke,
- 36:42Speaker 10: still enjoying his brief visit to Earth in the person
- 36:45Speaker 10: of Prince Circe. Meanwhile, the world is an astounded witness
- 36:50Speaker 10: to a series of miracles.
- 36:52Speaker 9: In London.
- 36:55Speaker 4: SS Seabrook explodes at sea, sinks within an hour, no
- 36:58Speaker 4: lives lost.
- 37:00Speaker 10: In Paris... Man jumps from Eiffel Tower in attempted suicide,
- 37:04Speaker 10: walks away uninjured. In Japan.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Island of Kobushima totally demolished by heaviest earthquake in history.
- 37:11Speaker 10: All residents are safe.
- 37:15Speaker 9: And so for.
- 37:15Speaker 10: Three days, no life is endangered, no living thing destroyed,
- 37:20Speaker 10: while death amuses himself. Now at conversation, now at yachting,
- 37:24Speaker 10: now at the gaming table of a fashionable resort, where
- 37:27Speaker 10: his luck amazes other players.
- 37:33Speaker 4: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 37:35Speaker 4: enough movies.
- 37:36Speaker 12: All of life's riddles are answered.
- 37:38Speaker 17: In the movies.
- 37:39Speaker 4: And now, on with the show.
- 37:41Speaker 3: What is love if you're not here with me?
- 37:50Speaker 15: What is love if it's not guaranteed? What is love
- 37:57Speaker 15: if it just doesn't leave? If you're not here no more,
- 38:05Speaker 15: what is love?
- 38:07Speaker 4: If you're not.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Really sure, what is love?
- 38:12Speaker 15: If it's just us and ghosts.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Death Undercover is an IRS agent.
- 38:18Speaker 9: Yeah, no, yeah, yeah. That was great. It was great.
- 38:21Speaker 7: Death and Tax?
- 38:21Speaker 16: I have a question about anything. Death and Tax. So,
- 38:25Speaker 16: Death leaves with Anthony Hopkins.
- 38:26Speaker 10: Yes.
- 38:27Speaker 16: Over the bridge.
- 38:27Speaker 10: Yes.
- 38:27Speaker 16: Very beautifully.
- 38:28Speaker 9: Yeah, gorgeously.
- 38:29Speaker 16: His daughter comes running after.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:32Speaker 16: And then previous Brad Pitt returns.
- 38:35Speaker 9: Yes.
- 38:36Speaker 16: Not Joe Black. What did they say his name?
- 38:38Speaker 7: Coffee Shop. Even in the credits, it lists him as
- 38:41Speaker 7: Guy in the Coffee Shop.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Which is kind of gorgeous, actually.
- 38:44Speaker 7: I like that he doesn't even get to be like
- 38:46Speaker 7: Joe in the real world, either.
- 38:48Speaker 6: So he's since forgotten everything that's happened, including his very
- 38:53Speaker 6: traumatic death, where he skidded across.
- 38:55Speaker 5: The pavement in the very beginning.
- 38:57Speaker 16: Yeah, right.
- 38:58Speaker 6: So we're just led to believe that she now, you know,
- 39:02Speaker 6: Except that this is coffee shop Brad.
- 39:04Speaker 16: Right.
- 39:05Speaker 1: She kind of figures it out.
- 39:07Speaker 16: She's the one who's always picking up on it quicker
- 39:10Speaker 16: than everybody else.
- 39:10Speaker 1: And I think he knows what happened. It was kind
- 39:12Speaker 1: of like, it harkens back to the lightning striking.
- 39:16Speaker 9: That's what I thought of when he just.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Kind of met back up with her. It was like
- 39:20Speaker 1: lightning struck him and now he's here with her. It's
- 39:24Speaker 1: easy for me to bite on, too, because it's romantic.
- 39:27Speaker 8: It feels like, again, in the real world, you'd be like,
- 39:29Speaker 8: you'd have way more questions, but because it's in this setting,
- 39:33Speaker 8: he's just like, well, I don't know how I got here,
- 39:36Speaker 8: but you're here, and I like you.
- 39:37Speaker 7: And yeah, let's go.
- 39:38Speaker 16: We're all dressed up.
- 39:40Speaker 9: There's fireworks going on.
- 39:41Speaker 7: Fireworks, yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 6: I like to think that there was, like, some deal
- 39:45Speaker 6: that was made with, like, shapeless death right at his death,
- 39:48Speaker 6: you know, whenever he got hit by the car and
- 39:50Speaker 6: it's like, okay, I'm going to use your body for
- 39:52Speaker 6: a little while to like haunt this dude.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Right.
- 39:55Speaker 16: You're going to fall in love with his daughter.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Probably.
- 39:56Speaker 5: I'm just giving you a heads up. Right.
- 39:58Speaker 16: Is that cool? You can just stay alive after.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:02Speaker 8: And I remember like the first time going through and
- 40:04Speaker 8: actually watching it kind of calling. I'm like, well, if
- 40:07Speaker 8: he's got to bring him back, I think because that
- 40:09Speaker 8: first scene is so good.
- 40:10Speaker 12: It's so good.
- 40:11Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 12: Listen, could I buy you a cup of coffee?
- 40:13Speaker 18: Um, I, I have some patients coming in, so I
- 40:19Speaker 18: should probably.
- 40:19Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, I gotta get to the apartment and get
- 40:21Speaker 12: off to work. I'd still like to have another cup
- 40:24Speaker 12: of coffee. Would you let me do that? Well, yeah, um, okay.
- 40:33Speaker 4: Deal.
- 40:42Speaker 12: It's kind of a pro bono job. Pro bono?
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 16: Meaning doing good?
- 40:47Speaker 12: That's me. Going to be doing good all your life?
- 40:52Speaker 12: I know what you're saying. It doesn't pay so well,
- 40:53Speaker 12: but I like it. Eventually, it'll depend on the woman
- 40:58Speaker 12: I marry, I think. Maybe she'll want lots of kids,
- 41:02Speaker 12: a bigger house, better car. College doesn't come cheap. I
- 41:07Speaker 12: don't know. Well, give up what you want for the
- 41:11Speaker 12: woman you marry. Yeah, you know what? I would.
- 41:18Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 15: Gladly.
- 41:20Speaker 12: Because you make your choices, you know? So you and I,
- 41:24Speaker 12: if we were married... No, for example, okay? If you
- 41:28Speaker 12: and I were married, I would want to give you
- 41:29Speaker 12: what you need. That's all. I'm talking about taking care
- 41:31Speaker 12: of each other the best you can. What's wrong with
- 41:33Speaker 12: taking care of a woman? She takes care of you.
- 41:35Speaker 18: You'll have a hard time finding a woman like that
- 41:38Speaker 18: these days.
- 41:40Speaker 12: Shoot, you think so?
- 41:40Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 41:43Speaker 12: I don't know. Lightning could strike.
- 41:48Speaker 7: Almost like, again, outside the realm of the real world.
- 41:51Speaker 8: Because I'm watching this and very quickly I'm just like,
- 41:54Speaker 8: it's rare that strangers get this.
- 41:57Speaker 7: Knee deep in a real conversation.
- 41:59Speaker 9: Right.
- 41:59Speaker 8: Not how's the weather, not hand me the cream, but
- 42:01Speaker 8: like the fact that they're just like two minutes in,
- 42:04Speaker 8: they're just like.
- 42:05Speaker 7: Well, if we got married, I'm just like, oh, okay,
- 42:07Speaker 7: this is a real thing now. So I think that
- 42:10Speaker 7: kind of helps it. But at the same time, I'm
- 42:12Speaker 7: just like, I.
- 42:12Speaker 8: Don't get into those kind of, with the exception of
- 42:14Speaker 8: this show, which again, I think is.
- 42:15Speaker 7: Why I keep doing it.
- 42:16Speaker 8: I meet people and next thing you know, we're talking
- 42:18Speaker 8: about life and death coming.
- 42:19Speaker 13: To visit you.
- 42:20Speaker 16: And Brad Pitt's apps.
- 42:21Speaker 7: And Brad Pitt's super hot apps. But aside from that,
- 42:25Speaker 7: I think it is.
- 42:26Speaker 8: Because it's built so strong in that first scene that
- 42:29Speaker 8: you're like, well, obviously they need to be there.
- 42:31Speaker 7: That's why you're like, turn around, turn around.
- 42:32Speaker 5: Right, right, right.
- 42:34Speaker 7: Hit a weird lull.
- 42:35Speaker 8: In that middle part where i'm just like death is
- 42:38Speaker 8: so awkward and i'm like he doesn't have any of
- 42:41Speaker 8: that that pizzazz like brad pitt is just so damn likable.
- 42:46Speaker 1: In that coffee shop right right right then i'm like why.
- 42:49Speaker 8: Does she fall in love yeah he's still pretty but
- 42:51Speaker 8: i'm just like there's no real spark to him at
- 42:54Speaker 8: all so i'm like i kind of question her character
- 42:56Speaker 8: as we get into this i'm like everything that you
- 42:59Speaker 8: liked about him is no longer there with the exception
- 43:02Speaker 8: of his pretty looks. So I'm like, everything that you
- 43:04Speaker 8: connected with in that coffee shop is gone. And yet
- 43:07Speaker 8: she still kind of falls in love with him. So
- 43:09Speaker 8: I'm like, what, what does that say about this? And
- 43:12Speaker 8: what does that say about the relationship to come?
- 43:14Speaker 16: When he comes back.
- 43:16Speaker 7: And like, well, now he's got a real personality again.
- 43:18Speaker 7: What do I do with that? I like just being
- 43:21Speaker 7: able to tell him what to do and take his
- 43:22Speaker 7: shirt off when I want it.
- 43:23Speaker 16: Where's Drew?
- 43:24Speaker 7: Yeah, really.
- 43:26Speaker 9: In the goodbye moments they had at the dad's 65th
- 43:28Speaker 9: birthday party at the end of the movie, when she's
- 43:30Speaker 9: face to face with, with, with Brad. And again, a gorgeous,
- 43:34Speaker 9: gorgeous scene of the two of them. Like whenever their
- 43:36Speaker 9: faces were close, it was just like, ah, ah, I
- 43:41Speaker 9: was just so drawn into all of it, right? Both
- 43:43Speaker 9: of them have these eyes that are going sparkle, sparkle, blink, blink. Oh, geez.
- 43:47Speaker 9: So she's staring him down and she's recounting the coffee
- 43:53Speaker 9: shop quotes. Like, here's what you said then. And then
- 43:56Speaker 9: she says, I told you you'd have a hard time
- 43:58Speaker 9: finding a woman like that. Well, I am that woman.
- 44:01Speaker 9: I am here. And so with that, so I think
- 44:08Speaker 9: that she had the coffee shop Brad Pitt as a
- 44:10Speaker 9: part of this guy. And she was trying to marry
- 44:12Speaker 9: the two of them together in her mind, the entire movie.
- 44:15Speaker 9: And so she, at the end, she's like, you're that
- 44:17Speaker 9: guy still.
- 44:18Speaker 16: Right.
- 44:18Speaker 9: And so that's why when, when that guy coffee shop,
- 44:20Speaker 9: Brad does show up again, it's immediately. And it's like,
- 44:23Speaker 9: then it's like how different he is now. I, okay.
- 44:25Speaker 9: You are back now. And so there's something. So what I,
- 44:28Speaker 9: here's what I loved about this whole exchange though, at
- 44:30Speaker 9: the end of the movie, um, was that it was
- 44:33Speaker 9: that the dad saying goodbye to the daughter and her
- 44:36Speaker 9: having an understanding that this was probably going to be it. Um,
- 44:40Speaker 9: The dialogue didn't ever say. The writing didn't say, here's
- 44:45Speaker 9: what's happening. Step A, step B, step C. And no
- 44:50Speaker 9: one ever said, death had over my body and now
- 44:53Speaker 9: I'm the other guy back again.
- 44:54Speaker 7: Which most movies would have done. A very elaborate explanation.
- 44:59Speaker 7: A chalkboard would have been involved. They didn't draw diagrams.
- 45:05Speaker 9: They let us be a smart audience. And they let
- 45:07Speaker 9: us feel her feelings and they let us discover the
- 45:12Speaker 9: truth through those beautiful eyes of hers. That's what I liked.
- 45:15Speaker 8: I still give her character credit. I'm like, that's a
- 45:19Speaker 8: hell of a journey to go on. If you're her
- 45:22Speaker 8: in the real world and you have to come up with.
- 45:25Speaker 7: This guy I know is deaf.
- 45:26Speaker 9: Let's review.
- 45:27Speaker 7: He swapped out.
- 45:28Speaker 8: Like, I'm just like, how could all of this click
- 45:30Speaker 8: in your mind make sense? And then you contain yourself
- 45:33Speaker 8: and continue to carry on a conversation. Because she never, like,
- 45:36Speaker 8: she can't even get words out.
- 45:38Speaker 7: She's piecing it together. You're watching it happen. Again, it's
- 45:41Speaker 7: a good performance for what she's doing.
- 45:42Speaker 5: It's a great performance.
- 45:43Speaker 7: But she's like, she's like, and so you're, she's just like, you're.
- 45:48Speaker 7: And they're like, so they never say it. But I'm like, okay, Sherlock. Like, damn.
- 45:53Speaker 7: You piece together a lot of improbable things.
- 45:56Speaker 12: Yes, she did.
- 45:57Speaker 16: Wrong line of work. She should be a detective, actually.
- 45:59Speaker 8: So, yeah, this doctor thing, you need to put that
- 46:01Speaker 8: on the back burner. Start solving crimes or something.
- 46:04Speaker 9: At the end of this heavy emotion that would send
- 46:06Speaker 9: anybody to their bedroom crying, she grabs his hand and
- 46:09Speaker 9: they walk down to the dock to watch more fireworks
- 46:12Speaker 9: and roll credits. Like, wow. I thought, what a strong
- 46:16Speaker 9: character of a woman she is.
- 46:17Speaker 1: She really was. And I was going to say that. Like,
- 46:20Speaker 1: the character of Susan was a really difficult role for
- 46:23Speaker 1: Claire to pull off. But she did it.
- 46:25Speaker 8: I think that's what makes it work. Because I feel
- 46:28Speaker 8: like Jo doesn't have much personality. So if she also
- 46:31Speaker 8: would have been kind of lame, like, it would have
- 46:34Speaker 8: fallen apart. But she's so, like, kind of, you like
- 46:38Speaker 8: her as a character and wish she was in the
- 46:40Speaker 8: real world. And so you want good things for her.
- 46:43Speaker 8: So yeah, you're just kind of like, okay, I really
- 46:45Speaker 8: hope that other Brad Pitt comes back. You kind of,
- 46:48Speaker 8: they're hoping, you know that's where it's got to go, right?
- 46:50Speaker 7: Or they're just mean.
- 46:51Speaker 9: Right, right, right.
- 46:52Speaker 7: So yeah, I think you kind of want.
- 46:54Speaker 8: Her to do well in this story and in life.
- 46:57Speaker 9: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. I do.
- 47:01Speaker 12: Right.
- 47:01Speaker 16: Sequel, all right, sequel.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Sequel, yeah.
- 47:04Speaker 9: Met Joe Black.
- 47:05Speaker 7: Meteor Joe Black? He's put on some weight these days.
- 47:08Speaker 7: He doesn't have those abs anymore.
- 47:11Speaker 1: In the sequel, death will be a woman.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:16Speaker 16: You get to see more of that deal that they made.
- 47:18Speaker 6: You just get thrashed in NYC rush hour.
- 47:23Speaker 5: Right, right.
- 47:25Speaker 7: Love it.
- 47:26Speaker 16: I'll write it.
- 47:27Speaker 12: Done.
- 47:28Speaker 7: You can do this.
- 47:29Speaker 9: Get this ghost yeah get your creative friends together.
- 47:31Speaker 8: I guess the closest they get i do yeah i
- 47:33Speaker 8: forgot they do remember they refer at some point to
- 47:36Speaker 8: the evil spirit that's with the older lady which okay
- 47:40Speaker 8: i kind of want to call out that scene in
- 47:42Speaker 8: the hospital i really like their relationship i like that
- 47:44Speaker 8: death shows up and finds a friend sort of and
- 47:47Speaker 8: like he does have someone else to go sit spend
- 47:49Speaker 8: time with and visit.
- 47:50Speaker 9: Yeah what is up with that accent Oh, what? Was
- 47:55Speaker 9: she Jamaican or something?
- 47:56Speaker 2: The only flowers I want to see is the ones
- 48:03Speaker 2: over my peaceful self resting in the dirt.
- 48:07Speaker 12: Rotten.
- 48:14Speaker 8: It's like if he was speaking like her like it'd
- 48:17Speaker 8: be kind of cool if like she was from another
- 48:19Speaker 8: country and he just went much like Santa Claus.
- 48:21Speaker 7: Death knows the languages.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Of all children.
- 48:23Speaker 9: It's true.
- 48:24Speaker 8: It's kind of cool if he just like slipped right
- 48:26Speaker 8: into it. But I guess they didn't want to pay
- 48:28Speaker 8: somebody to put text on the screen or something like
- 48:30Speaker 8: so it's weird that like he just takes on a
- 48:32Speaker 8: really strong accent.
- 48:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:34Speaker 7: I don't know. That was very weird to me.
- 48:36Speaker 9: He was relating to her on her level. I guess.
- 48:39Speaker 9: But it also kind.
- 48:40Speaker 7: Of slides into Irish every once in a while. Like,
- 48:42Speaker 7: you're not on the devil's own. Don't be getting mixed up.
- 48:45Speaker 9: Harrison Ford's nowhere near.
- 48:46Speaker 16: Sliding in and out.
- 48:47Speaker 7: Hold on a minute.
- 48:48Speaker 6: Also, whenever he's speaking to Anthony Hopkins earlier, I thought
- 48:52Speaker 6: it was Anthony Hopkins. voice talking to himself because it
- 48:54Speaker 6: had like a slight.
- 48:55Speaker 9: Oh the introduction scene where he's behind the glass i feel.
- 48:58Speaker 8: Like it kind of like all of his in his
- 49:01Speaker 8: head when he's having the chest pains right anthony hopkins.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Right right right it's that.
- 49:06Speaker 8: Like crossover where it's like death is everyone you know
- 49:09Speaker 8: death is anthony hopkins right the voice of whoever he
- 49:12Speaker 8: wants to be.
- 49:13Speaker 9: He takes on whatever form he needs to. He steps
- 49:16Speaker 9: out looking like Brad Pitt and into the light and
- 49:18Speaker 9: that's when he took Brad's voice on again. I like
- 49:21Speaker 9: that element of it. I did, I did, I did.
- 49:25Speaker 8: But I like the little dynamic that they had otherwise
- 49:28Speaker 8: with the older lady. Again, like kids and animals. This
- 49:32Speaker 8: old sick lady could see who he was immediately.
- 49:35Speaker 7: She's like, oh, don't put me over there by him.
- 49:37Speaker 8: She sees death standing there in the hospital like that's
- 49:40Speaker 8: kind of.
- 49:41Speaker 9: Creepy it wasn't nice they made friends before it was.
- 49:43Speaker 8: Over yeah and then by the end he kept coming
- 49:45Speaker 8: around and he's like i'm not really here for you
- 49:46Speaker 8: you know i'm just coming to visit the doctor the
- 49:48Speaker 8: pretty doctor lady you know so yeah it's i like
- 49:51Speaker 8: that little dynamic that's built there question the accent but
- 49:54Speaker 8: i like.
- 49:55Speaker 9: The relationship but you know a movie like this does
- 49:58Speaker 9: make us think about our mortality though and uh you
- 50:00Speaker 9: know and i um my uh two years ago actually
- 50:03Speaker 9: shortly after we did our podcast my mother passed away.
- 50:06Speaker 7: I can remember seeing that.
- 50:07Speaker 9: At age 84. And, you know, we got the news
- 50:11Speaker 9: that she had liver cancer that was terminal, and they
- 50:13Speaker 9: gave her about three months. So we had this prognosis
- 50:16Speaker 9: and a time frame. With that, my mother at that age,
- 50:21Speaker 9: you know, I'm feeling devastated. But, of course, you know,
- 50:23Speaker 9: when your parents get to a certain age, you start
- 50:24Speaker 9: thinking about this anyway. We're not going to have them forever.
- 50:27Speaker 9: But she grabbed my hand one day and said, you know,
- 50:30Speaker 9: I have lived a very full, rich life, a good life.
- 50:35Speaker 9: And so she said, I'm really looking forward to what's
- 50:36Speaker 9: coming ahead. She didn't shed one tear throughout this entire process. Uh,
- 50:40Speaker 9: she said, uh, I'm looking forward to what's coming ahead.
- 50:43Speaker 9: I'm looking forward to seeing your father again, who had
- 50:45Speaker 9: passed away in 1979. I'm looking forward to, uh, she,
- 50:48Speaker 9: she was widowed three. She said, I put it, but
- 50:51Speaker 9: this good life includes three marriages and no divorces having
- 50:54Speaker 9: four boys and no jail time. She, I mean, you know,
- 50:57Speaker 9: she did okay.
- 50:57Speaker 16: You know what I'm saying?
- 50:58Speaker 7: And so you're not out of the woods yet, but
- 51:00Speaker 7: all right. Up until then, she's gone now.
- 51:02Speaker 9: So you'll never see that.
- 51:03Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 9: But, uh, Depends on what happens here at this Hilton.
- 51:06Speaker 7: We're on the floor right now.
- 51:08Speaker 1: That's right.
- 51:11Speaker 9: It depends on what the cleanup fee is in this room.
- 51:14Speaker 9: But no, but I think that was, if I could,
- 51:21Speaker 9: and you know, she was a very devout Christian woman
- 51:24Speaker 9: and she said, I'm looking forward to meeting this Jesus
- 51:27Speaker 9: I've been singing about in church for 84 years. If
- 51:30Speaker 9: I can leave the earth with that kind of grace
- 51:32Speaker 9: and that kind of dignity and that kind of, of
- 51:34Speaker 9: hands in the air going, yeah, about the finish line.
- 51:37Speaker 9: That's the way I want to go one day, you know?
- 51:39Speaker 9: And I think that in meet Joe black is kind
- 51:41Speaker 9: of a, with that speech we just read that Anthony
- 51:43Speaker 9: Hopkins gives knowing that his death is, is eminent. Um, uh,
- 51:47Speaker 9: I think that he, he also found that grace and that, that, uh,
- 51:50Speaker 9: that dignified way to, to sum up the life, the
- 51:53Speaker 9: good life you've had and to move on, you know?
- 51:56Speaker 8: And I think even not so much, it doesn't have
- 51:59Speaker 8: to be the end of the year, because I kept
- 52:00Speaker 8: watching the earlier scenes with Anthony Hopkins, and he's just
- 52:03Speaker 8: talking about.
- 52:03Speaker 7: Getting older and the decisions he's made.
- 52:06Speaker 8: And it's like, I'm sitting here with all the things
- 52:09Speaker 8: we do and constantly questioning, well, is this a good idea?
- 52:12Speaker 8: So you're kind of watching him look back on these
- 52:15Speaker 8: 65 years of all these decisions made and Most of them,
- 52:18Speaker 8: I guess, turned out pretty right for him.
- 52:20Speaker 7: He seems like he's doing all right. He did okay.
- 52:23Speaker 7: But you still, like, you always question that.
- 52:25Speaker 8: Like, even as successful as he was, you know, you
- 52:27Speaker 8: start to look back and be like, is that, am
- 52:30Speaker 8: I leaving a legacy that I want behind?
- 52:33Speaker 7: Is, you know, this decision that I've made that's led
- 52:35Speaker 7: me here what I should have done? So I don't know.
- 52:37Speaker 8: I was kind of taking a lot from that, too, that, like,
- 52:40Speaker 8: we always kind of question those things. Even if we
- 52:43Speaker 8: don't know, we've got an end date, which we all
- 52:45Speaker 8: kind of do.
- 52:46Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 7: We don't know when.
- 52:48Speaker 5: Right, right, right, right.
- 52:49Speaker 1: He does handle it gracefully. And that's because I think
- 52:51Speaker 1: the movie addresses this really well is he relinquishes fear.
- 52:56Speaker 1: And that's the best part about it is, you know,
- 52:58Speaker 1: like your mother, she had no fear.
- 53:01Speaker 13: No fear.
- 53:01Speaker 9: Right.
- 53:02Speaker 1: And that's how you should cross the finish line.
- 53:04Speaker 7: He went through the whole movie kind of like that because...
- 53:08Speaker 7: If there's ever, this is.
- 53:09Speaker 8: Why you're like, okay, this is why you hire Anthony
- 53:11Speaker 8: Hopkins in this role.
- 53:12Speaker 7: If there's ever a.
- 53:13Speaker 8: Man who can threaten the Grim Reaper, and you buy that.
- 53:18Speaker 7: Scene, you're like, oh, he's pissed. You're just like, this
- 53:21Speaker 7: is not, okay, Brad, calm down.
- 53:23Speaker 16: I saw you kiss Susan.
- 53:25Speaker 12: Yes, I saw you see me.
- 53:27Speaker 14: Well, you're at the wrong place at the wrong time
- 53:29Speaker 14: with the wrong woman.
- 53:30Speaker 12: I'll be the judge of that.
- 53:31Speaker 7: I'm her father.
- 53:33Speaker 12: With all due respect, Bill, I'm not asking your permission.
- 53:35Speaker 7: For your goddamn right, sir!
- 53:37Speaker 8: It's funny and that was another thing I thought as
- 53:39Speaker 8: I'm watching this I'm like death or not you are
- 53:41Speaker 8: always gonna get that not with my daughter tone no
- 53:45Speaker 8: matter what he's always gonna be like what are your
- 53:47Speaker 8: intentions with my daughter death because.
- 53:50Speaker 7: I don't like where this is going like that does
- 53:53Speaker 7: not change.
- 53:53Speaker 8: Regardless of the supernatural circumstances I'm like he's still gonna
- 53:57Speaker 8: be like uh I just saw that get out of my.
- 54:00Speaker 9: House right and if you were Claire Forlani wouldn't you
- 54:03Speaker 9: want to have an Anthony Hopkins protective daddy like that.
- 54:06Speaker 7: Definitely I would She needs one.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I mean, she does.
- 54:09Speaker 5: She does.
- 54:10Speaker 7: Somebody needs to take care of her.
- 54:11Speaker 5: Well, look at her.
- 54:12Speaker 9: She'd have the wolves after all every day. Yeah.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Great. Of course.
- 54:16Speaker 8: She looks like that.
- 54:20Speaker 16: Rough life. Are those wolves in air quotes? Yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 8: The other thing I wanted to go into is Martin breast.
- 54:27Speaker 10: Hmm.
- 54:29Speaker 8: And this is one of the few times I'll say,
- 54:31Speaker 8: because I said don't read IMDb, because the comments are horrible.
- 54:33Speaker 9: Oh, are they really?
- 54:35Speaker 7: Really? I will tell you not to go there.
- 54:37Speaker 9: Okay, I will not go there.
- 54:38Speaker 8: You've got way too many projects to have your feelings hurt.
- 54:40Speaker 7: But they're usually horrible, horrible people.
- 54:42Speaker 9: No offense if you're one of those people. The webinar
- 54:44Speaker 9: is full of horrible people.
- 54:45Speaker 7: But everyone that listens to our show is cool, so
- 54:47Speaker 7: it's okay. They would never say these things.
- 54:48Speaker 9: And thank you for being cool.
- 54:49Speaker 8: But the ones I didn't, like I didn't go through,
- 54:51Speaker 8: I didn't read all that nonsense, but the very first
- 54:53Speaker 8: one that came up when you got to Martin Brez's page,
- 54:56Speaker 8: just the headline said, This guy's resume baffles me. And
- 55:01Speaker 8: I was like, all right, I'm kind of on board.
- 55:03Speaker 7: I kind of agree.
- 55:05Speaker 9: What else does his resume include?
- 55:07Speaker 8: Because I remember, and again, I think I've always connected
- 55:10Speaker 8: the name first with Beverly Hills Cop, which again, I'm
- 55:14Speaker 8: kind of like, of those types of movies, it's kind
- 55:18Speaker 8: of amazing. And that's a script that was headed for
- 55:21Speaker 8: Stallone at one point. And he took it and retooled
- 55:24Speaker 8: it and brought in Eddie Murphy and.
- 55:26Speaker 7: Brought us the best version of Eddie Murphy.
- 55:28Speaker 8: Because you see him turn in not so amazing roles later,
- 55:31Speaker 8: but that one is on the money. And I figured
- 55:34Speaker 8: that had to do a lot with him directing it.
- 55:37Speaker 8: And then it's followed up by Midnight Run, which I
- 55:40Speaker 8: still think is one of.
- 55:42Speaker 7: The best movies ever.
- 55:44Speaker 1: That's in my top 10.
- 55:45Speaker 7: Buddy movie, action movie, whatever you want to call it.
- 55:47Speaker 7: It's just a great movie.
- 55:49Speaker 16: But then.
- 55:51Speaker 7: Sin of a Woman. Pretty beloved. People love that performance.
- 55:55Speaker 9: Yeah, they do.
- 55:57Speaker 7: It's questionable. Then he follows that up with Meet Joe Black.
- 56:02Speaker 7: Then Geely.
- 56:03Speaker 14: Oh, okay.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Forgot that part.
- 56:08Speaker 16: So far so good.
- 56:10Speaker 8: I'm just like everything else. Even going back, I forgot
- 56:14Speaker 8: he's going in style too. That was kind of his
- 56:17Speaker 8: first big breakout with George Burns and Art Carney and
- 56:22Speaker 8: Them kind of pulling a heist.
- 56:23Speaker 7: That was kind of his first big movie.
- 56:25Speaker 8: The only one before that, this was interesting. It's a
- 56:29Speaker 8: full-length feature film. I thought maybe it was a short.
- 56:32Speaker 7: It's called Hot Tomorrows. But the way the breakdown is.
- 56:35Speaker 5: I've had a few of those.
- 56:37Speaker 8: The breakdown in IMDb says that this is a young
- 56:40Speaker 8: man who has a life-size Grim Reaper in his apartment.
- 56:44Speaker 8: So obviously he has a weird little deep-seated thing that
- 56:48Speaker 8: it takes him like a couple of decades to come
- 56:49Speaker 8: back around and be like, no, I want to do
- 56:51Speaker 8: a whole movie about death. So obviously that's playing on
- 56:55Speaker 8: his mind.
- 56:56Speaker 7: But yeah, it's like.
- 56:58Speaker 8: And the really weird thing is he didn't write a
- 57:00Speaker 8: lot of those in the middle there.
- 57:01Speaker 7: He didn't write Meet Joe Black. but he wrote Geely.
- 57:05Speaker 7: So I don't know what to do with any of that.
- 57:09Speaker 9: Yeah, well, who did write Mewtwo? Do we have a
- 57:10Speaker 9: writer name for that?
- 57:11Speaker 1: There are four writers.
- 57:13Speaker 7: Yeah, it was a couple, yeah.
- 57:15Speaker 8: And he didn't write Midnight Run, which is an awesome screenplay.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Did Bresson not do Legend of the Fall?
- 57:22Speaker 3: No.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Did I make that up in my head?
- 57:23Speaker 5: I think you made that up.
- 57:25Speaker 8: He didn't do a ton, but he knocked out some
- 57:27Speaker 8: pretty solid movies. And then I guess that, like, took
- 57:31Speaker 8: him out of the game like he has not directed
- 57:33Speaker 8: since jeannie it killed his career and from what i've
- 57:37Speaker 8: heard that was it was kind of the one too
- 57:39Speaker 8: because i think meet joe black didn't successfully make money
- 57:43Speaker 8: financially yeah in the theaters i think it didn't do
- 57:45Speaker 8: well so i think that kind of hurt him and
- 57:47Speaker 8: then he followed that up with jeannie which became a
- 57:50Speaker 8: punch line in hollywood like it really it was the
- 57:53Speaker 8: the joke of a couple of years there now it's
- 57:56Speaker 8: almost so dated it It's starting to fade, but anybody
- 57:59Speaker 8: who knows still knows.
- 58:00Speaker 6: I still think about Ben Affleck's career. For me, that
- 58:03Speaker 6: was like the typical pinnacle.
- 58:06Speaker 8: It was sort of all the things coming together to
- 58:08Speaker 8: go wrong at the same time. Their relationship was going
- 58:12Speaker 8: on and got caught up in the middle.
- 58:14Speaker 7: Of this acting role.
- 58:16Speaker 9: Audiences are very unforgiving when a real-life couple wants to
- 58:19Speaker 9: play a couple on film. It usually doesn't go well.
- 58:22Speaker 9: It usually doesn't go well.
- 58:23Speaker 7: I occasionally like those films.
- 58:26Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 58:27Speaker 6: The writers, though, one of them is Bo Goldman, who
- 58:30Speaker 6: wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Scent of a Woman,
- 58:33Speaker 6: Shoot the Moon, and Meet Joe Blacker.
- 58:35Speaker 9: Oh, okay. Interesting.
- 58:37Speaker 10: Cool.
- 58:37Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 58:39Speaker 6: And then the other major writing credit goes to Kevin Wade.
- 58:45Speaker 9: Kevin Wade. Okay.
- 58:47Speaker 13: So I don't know.
- 58:47Speaker 8: I just thought that was an interesting career as a
- 58:50Speaker 8: director and writer. I wonder if it was financing. After
- 58:57Speaker 8: those two in a row, nobody wanted to give him
- 58:59Speaker 8: money to do a big movie anymore, so he just
- 59:01Speaker 8: gave up.
- 59:02Speaker 9: I've heard many producers say that Hollywood is not in
- 59:05Speaker 9: the business of making art. They're in the business of
- 59:07Speaker 9: making money. And if you don't, then this is what happens, unfortunately.
- 59:10Speaker 8: And in the town that, you know, what's the last
- 59:12Speaker 8: thing you did?
- 59:14Speaker 7: Entire resume.
- 59:15Speaker 9: It's your entire resume. Always go to your last project, right? So,
- 59:18Speaker 9: if Gigli's it... That's hard.
- 59:22Speaker 7: It's hard to overcome.
- 59:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 59:25Speaker 7: So, I don't know. The only other one I was
- 59:27Speaker 7: going to throw out was.
- 59:29Speaker 8: As you said, you had more than enough time for
- 59:31Speaker 8: this movie and more.
- 59:32Speaker 9: I did.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I did.
- 59:33Speaker 9: I feel like it's paced very oddly.
- 59:35Speaker 16: It was three hours a lot for you.
- 59:37Speaker 10: Okay.
- 59:37Speaker 9: You got a little yawny in that alert?
- 59:39Speaker 7: Not really.
- 59:39Speaker 8: It's just like there was, because that's the thing. I
- 59:41Speaker 8: started thinking like, okay, now I'm the editor. How do
- 59:43Speaker 8: you take any of this out and make it work?
- 59:46Speaker 10: Right.
- 59:46Speaker 7: And I really didn't come up with any.
- 59:48Speaker 8: Like there's not really other than yelling at the jerk guy,
- 59:51Speaker 8: which again, you could probably take that out and the
- 59:53Speaker 8: movie would go on just fine.
- 59:54Speaker 7: But all the other relationship stuff needs to be there.
- 59:57Speaker 8: Again, I think that was just for the audience to
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: fist pump for a second.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: Yeah, you told that jerk.
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: Yeah, get the bad guy.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: We needed a bad guy. That was pretty much all
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: we had. You can't make death the bad guy.
- 1:00:08Speaker 16: Right, right, right.
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: Because he's too pretty.
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: He's our semi-hero, kind of. And he's pretty. So, I
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: don't know. Were there pacing issues with anyone?
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: What do you puppies think? What do you puppies think?
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Just with the exchanges at certain parts, I had trouble...
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: keeping up with, you know, Anthony Hopkins when he first sees,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: you know, Joe Black come in, they have this exchange
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: where he goes, your death is three or four beats.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: And then they do this eye exchange and he goes, yes.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Are you really? Some more beats.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: I am.
- 1:00:45Speaker 16: You're doing this pretty good, actually.
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: So we could have shaved an hour off right there.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: But it's like, that's what the movie's built on. That's
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: what makes me buy it, really.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: Right, right.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: You know, the acting really comes through.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: It does.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: These facial expressions. And that's what makes the movie magical.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: And that's where the art is in it. And, you know,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: pacing set aside, I loved it. It's hard to say, like,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: you know, earlier when I met up with Brian at
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: the coffee shop, I was like, you know, I forgot
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: about the pacing of this movie because the last time
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I saw it, I was 11, 12 years old and
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: wasn't paying attention to that.
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: Well, it's not an 11-year-old's movie, is it?
- 1:01:20Speaker 7: No, it's really not.
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: Not so much.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: But then going back and seeing it again, you know,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: you do get a greater appreciation for film when you're
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: able to, like, sit on the floor of the Hilton
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Head and break it down.
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: Break it down.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: And have a conversation.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Break it down.
- 1:01:34Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Have a real conversation about it.
- 1:01:37Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: I think the relationship part is like that too. It's
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: like because he's so awkward, every step takes 10 times
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: longer for– because she would just normally go into like
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: you would with a normal guy and then he'd just
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: look at her.
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: Funny and she'd be like, okay, what do I do now?
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: So each step took like three more steps.
- 1:01:55Speaker 8: Of her going– how do I deal with this weird guy?
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: So I think it did slow down.
- 1:02:01Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: It's like, let's go to the indoor pool.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: How do I get him to take these clothes off?
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: So yeah, it took, it took a while, I think
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: for the relationship to build too, because there's all these
- 1:02:11Speaker 8: dead ends of him just like kind of staring at
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: her with that look on his face, like a dog
- 1:02:15Speaker 8: that heard a funny noise. And like, he's like, I
- 1:02:18Speaker 8: don't know what to do with humans and love.
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:02:21Speaker 16: I don't have a problem with the pacing. Um, very
- 1:02:24Speaker 16: much at all.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I actually don't, especially with movies that have like a
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: very successful narrative structure. So I read a couple of
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: the screenwriting books by Blake Snyder and he's very big
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: on commercial filmmaking and having this like pretty, you know,
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: methodical way of making the story work. And this was
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: fit right into it perfectly. Actually every, ever since reading
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: this Blake Snyder, the Blake Snyder beat sheet, I've, yeah,
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: I apply it to pretty much every movie in this
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: had like the A story, Anthony Hopkins, B story, death,
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: and his daughter and it like plays out where they
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: overlap and like the bad guy gets what's coming to
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: him you know and yeah it was because it was
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: so well composed i feel like the pacing didn't matter
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: you know.
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: I'm with you on this i'm totally with you on
- 1:03:05Speaker 9: that it definitely makes it work and that's what i
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: said it's like i don't know how to adjust any
- 1:03:09Speaker 9: of that like i guess it needed to be three
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: hours because it really like you can't take any piece.
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: Of that out and still not it wouldn't work then
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: without any of that kind of building up to the
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: end there. But that party scene, because it's all conversation
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: and conversation, it's got to be like 35 minutes of
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: the end.
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: Oh, the party's long.
- 1:03:30Speaker 8: The party was like a long scene that I'm like,
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: everybody's going to be home soon.
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: This party's going to be over.
- 1:03:37Speaker 9: Son's coming up. Wrap it up.
- 1:03:39Speaker 16: We've got to fire some fireworks.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: Come on, hurry this up.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: I think it was like 45 just at the end
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: of the dinner scene.
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: So they had like what, three days of time take
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: place between that and the final party?
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:50Speaker 16: Or two or something.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: Yeah, that was the only other concern.
- 1:03:56Speaker 8: Other than that, it's so well put together and performances
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: are so impressive.
- 1:04:01Speaker 9: So impressive, yeah.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: The musical score, too. That's why, you know, when you
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: look back at the pacing, you're like, well, it was
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: like this beautiful musical score that could only have that pacing.
- 1:04:11Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Like, it just builds up this whole diegesis on the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: screen that as an audience member you get sucked into
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: because it's romantic and it's gorgeous. Sets are beautiful.
- 1:04:26Speaker 16: How about the fireworks?
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: That vinyl huge orchestral composition at the end. Obviously fireworks
- 1:04:35Speaker 6: are a good way to end a movie. You need
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: the drums and the orchestra.
- 1:04:42Speaker 16: Everyone's all there. Emotions, emotions, go.
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: Feel.
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: Beat them into me.
- 1:04:51Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:04:54Speaker 8: So with that bombastic theme, is that our rounding out
- 1:04:58Speaker 8: of this?
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: Is there anything else you need to?
- 1:04:59Speaker 12: I feel good.
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: I feel like we hashed this one out.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: I feel good about it.
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: I think we pieced it together, guys.
- 1:05:08Speaker 9: I do, I do, I do.
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: Right here on the floor. We solved the mystery like
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: Claire Foran.
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: This is my third episode with you, and we've done
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: them all on the floor now, so this makes me
- 1:05:15Speaker 9: very happy.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: You're motifing.
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: I'm motifing right over here. Okay.
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: Well, if nothing else, do you want to tell people
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: where to find you at the old Doug Jones sex-periment?
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: No.
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: I'm referencing your previous story.
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: That was a horrible story. My official website, which, you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 9: Webmaster Helen, she had to take a little break from
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: maintaining the site, so it needs some updating. So there's
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: some old information. TheDougJonesExperience.com is not up to date. the
- 1:05:47Speaker 9: more current information you'll find is in my social media
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: right now. And that would be if you do a
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: Doug Jones search on Facebook, you'll find my personal page,
- 1:05:54Speaker 9: which I cannot add any more friends. I'm at the 5,000
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: friend limit.
- 1:05:57Speaker 8: Facebook needs to figure that out.
- 1:05:59Speaker 9: Something out. But there's a follow button there if you
- 1:06:01Speaker 9: want to follow those posts. But they are the same
- 1:06:03Speaker 9: ones I put on my like professional page. So you
- 1:06:06Speaker 9: can hit the like button there. You'll know it's me
- 1:06:08Speaker 9: because I've got the blue verified badge there. Then you
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: can also find me on the Instagram and the Twitter
- 1:06:13Speaker 9: as actordougjones. on either one. They both have a blue
- 1:06:17Speaker 9: verified checkmark. You'll know it's me. Then let's see. We're
- 1:06:20Speaker 9: also on the Tumblr. Actor Doug Jones will get you there.
- 1:06:24Speaker 9: And let's see. Wait, there's more LinkedIn. Ah, yeah. People
- 1:06:31Speaker 9: use that? All around the social media.
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: Yeah, they do.
- 1:06:33Speaker 9: I wouldn't have if I didn't keep getting invitations to it.
- 1:06:36Speaker 9: I know. Right? That's why we all join.
- 1:06:38Speaker 16: Okay, fine.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:39Speaker 9: Fine, I'll do it. Yeah, yeah. Snapchat? snap that's the
- 1:06:43Speaker 9: one i don't get i think that's for whores you.
- 1:06:46Speaker 19: Know that's why we that's why why do i why
- 1:06:54Speaker 19: would i want to post something that disappears in 15
- 1:06:56Speaker 19: seconds why do i what yeah okay.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: Creative right right it was pictures of shiny ass then.
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: Yes okay then i get it i got it.
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: So at my age, I really don't need that.
- 1:07:11Speaker 11: Vines?
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: Are you vining?
- 1:07:12Speaker 9: The vines are six seconds. I don't have a vine
- 1:07:16Speaker 9: account of my own, but Instagram is 15 seconds. You
- 1:07:18Speaker 9: can do more of the video there. I'm just saying.
- 1:07:21Speaker 9: And there's this other new platform.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: What's it called?
- 1:07:23Speaker 9: It's the live streaming video.
- 1:07:26Speaker 16: Periscope?
- 1:07:26Speaker 9: Periscope. Yeah. I don't know much about it. Have you
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: heard of this?
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: I've seen a lot of people posting links already. I'm like,
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: because we need one more.
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah. But it's an interesting idea for events. It's
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: like posting videos, but they're live. They're happening right now.
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: But you can also do it just like streaming. Like
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: you can go to an event and just have it
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: streaming your table.
- 1:07:46Speaker 16: All day long.
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: Like if you want to sit at home watching five
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: hours of you sign autographs.
- 1:07:52Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure you can do that. I could do that. Yeah.
- 1:07:55Speaker 9: Which I don't, again.
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: I think we're sometimes using these wrong.
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: Is this supposed to be like at a concert, like
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: you're above the crowd looking.
- 1:08:02Speaker 16: Around like a.
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: Yeah, there we go.
- 1:08:06Speaker 7: So yeah, we have too many social medias. Some of
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: them we're using wrong.
- 1:08:10Speaker 9: Sure, sure, sure.
- 1:08:12Speaker 16: Snapchat we're using correct.
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: I mean, not Snapchat. I'm talking about some of the
- 1:08:15Speaker 7: other ones, but that one's fine.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: Right, right, right, right, right, right.
- 1:08:20Speaker 9: Oh, you precious kids.
- 1:08:22Speaker 7: Well, I guess we can.
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: Well, at least stop recording and get down to business
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: on this rug.
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: Teasing all episode long.
- 1:08:31Speaker 9: Teasery. I know. Should we end with a hymn and
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: take up a collection or what should we do?
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: I don't know. Fire up. I want to know what
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: love is.
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: By the end of this, I just kept hearing that going,
- 1:08:44Speaker 8: that's the closing track.
- 1:08:46Speaker 9: That's what Joe wants to know.
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: Death just wants to know what love is, man.
- 1:08:49Speaker 9: I want you to show me.
- 1:08:53Speaker 8: So it's, yeah, let's, let's rock out with some foreigner
- 1:08:56Speaker 8: and get.
- 1:08:56Speaker 9: Out of here.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:08:58Speaker 9: Well, thank you so much for having me again. the
- 1:09:00Speaker 9: fact that you've had me back for a third time.
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: Now you're part of the family that's i feel very.
- 1:09:04Speaker 8: Family like yeah thank you we've adopted you and you
- 1:09:07Speaker 8: you're on the show as often as you would.
- 1:09:09Speaker 9: Like yo it's a deal then every time i come
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: back to this region you somehow know about it, and
- 1:09:13Speaker 9: so we end up doing this.
- 1:09:14Speaker 7: Psychic like that.
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: I know.
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: That's that hands-on thing I do.
- 1:09:18Speaker 9: Yes, it's the impact.
- 1:09:18Speaker 8: Some people don't like it at conventions when I'm doing
- 1:09:20Speaker 8: that hands-on thing.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Periscope, then you'll find.
- 1:09:24Speaker 9: Yeah, if you periscope me.
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: There's only a few restraining orders.
- 1:09:27Speaker 9: That's right, that's right. I'll Snapchat you when I'm going
- 1:09:29Speaker 9: to be here again.
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: There we go. Now we're making this work. All right, then.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:09:36Speaker 7: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time,
- 1:09:38Speaker 7: same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:09:54Speaker 11: I've got to take a little time A little time
- 1:10:00Speaker 11: to think things over I better read between the lines
- 1:10:12Speaker 11: In case I need it when I'm older Oh Now
- 1:10:30Speaker 11: this mountain I must climb Feels like the world upon
- 1:10:36Speaker 11: my shoulder Through.
- 1:10:40Speaker 17: The clouds I see love shine It keeps.
- 1:10:45Speaker 12: Me warm as life grows colder.
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: In my life, there's been heartache and pain. I don't
- 1:10:58Speaker 18: know if I can face it again.
- 1:11:03Speaker 7: Can't stop now.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: I've traveled so far to change this lonely life. I
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: want to know what love is. I want you to
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: show me. I want to feel what love is.
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: I know you can show.
- 1:11:48Speaker 11: Gonna take a little time, a little time to look
- 1:11:55Speaker 11: around me. I've got nowhere left to hide. It looks
- 1:12:04Speaker 11: like love has finally found me.
- 1:12:12Speaker 17: There's been heartache and pain I don't know if I
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: can face it again I can't stop now.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: I've traveled so far To change this lonely life I
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: wanna know what love is I want you to show

- 1:13:11Speaker 3: feel what love is. And I know, I know you
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: can't show me. Let's talk about love. You just can't hide.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: I know you can show me. I want to know
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: what love is. Let's talk about love. I know you
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: can show me. I want to feel it. I want
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: to feel what I want to feel too. Okay, okay, okay.
- 1:14:28Speaker 16: You're going to star in one of our movies soon enough.
- 1:14:29Speaker 7: Yes, I am.
- 1:14:30Speaker 16: I can feel it coming.
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: Especially if it ends up on the Snapchat.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: That's a very short film.
- 1:14:36Speaker 16: It disappears in 15 seconds.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Well, we'll let you keep the costume, but for that one.
- 1:14:41Speaker 9: Okay, thank you.
- 1:14:42Speaker 16: Thank you.
- 1:14:42Speaker 12: Yes, I win.
