- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonya
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. So hands up if
- 0:12Speaker 1: you slept like a baby last night and found it
- 0:16Speaker 1: absolutely difficult to wake up this morning because of the rain. Yes,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I was snug as a bug in my bed. Full
- 0:23Speaker 1: details coming your way and welcome to your show on Thursday.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think I was at the National Stadium area yesterday
- 0:35Speaker 1: and they are preparing for Gem's concert. Yup. Her name
- 0:39Speaker 1: is Gloria, if I'm not wrong. One of the biggest
- 0:42Speaker 1: names in the Mandda pop scene from Hong Kong, and
- 0:45Speaker 1: they call her Hong Kong's Taylor Swift and to which, um,
- 0:49Speaker 1: there was a few years ago I got very curious
- 0:51Speaker 1: about Gem, you know, she speaks very good English, speaks
- 0:54Speaker 1: very good, uh, Cantonese and Mandarin, of course, she should.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And when I heard her sing, my God, her vocals
- 1:02Speaker 1: are amazing. If there is a Mandopop superstar, aside from
- 1:05Speaker 1: Jay Cho, whose concert I want to attend at least
- 1:08Speaker 1: once in my life, maybe I wanna catch Jam in concert.
- 1:11Speaker 1: So yeah, if you're going down the Kallang area the
- 1:14Speaker 1: next few days, you might see them sound checking and
- 1:16Speaker 1: very soon it'll be her concert live in Singapore. And
- 1:20Speaker 1: in terms of maybe say a festival happening in our country.
- 1:24Speaker 1: In the month of July, Friday, 17th July, Saturday, and
- 1:28Speaker 1: Sunday as well. It's Glow Festival by Prudential. The likes
- 1:32Speaker 1: of Jason Derulo will be in town at Dea as well. Saturday,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you got Hugo and Bad Bad Not Good. And on Sunday,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you have this.
- 1:41Speaker 1: This particular artist who has a song that people still
- 1:46Speaker 1: relate to even though the song is now almost 10
- 1:49Speaker 1: or 11 years old. It's Alessia Cara. This song called Scars,
- 1:52Speaker 1: You're Beautiful, and yep, slept like a baby last night,
- 1:56Speaker 1: all thanks to the rain. I don't know about you.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And hopefully you sleep better too when it rains here
- 2:02Speaker 1: in Singapore, but the problem about the rain is having
- 2:05Speaker 1: to wake up at 4:45 a.m. to get ready for
- 2:08Speaker 1: the morning show. Yeah, that part is extremely difficult and
- 2:12Speaker 1: waking up early to head to school as well. So
- 2:15Speaker 1: if you're doing that, you know what? I wanna send
- 2:17Speaker 1: you love and all the energy. Well done, well done
- 2:19Speaker 1: to you. You're awake.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You are driving your kids to school and to the kids,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you're going to school to learn more and hopefully collect
- 2:28Speaker 1: good exam grades. Hang in there just 9 more days
- 2:33Speaker 1: before the June holidays. So, yeah, just whatever energy and
- 2:38Speaker 1: strength you have left, just claw on.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And carry on and then 30th of May you celebrate. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the holiday for June. Please, really, if you can travel overseas,
- 2:49Speaker 1: go across the Causeway. I hope your supplementary and remedial classes.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Maybe not as packed as it would be during the
- 2:58Speaker 1: March and September holidays. So, two days ago, Levey was
- 3:03Speaker 1: in town and 19th of May, Tuesday night. She performed
- 3:06Speaker 1: over at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. If you're having your
- 3:09Speaker 1: post-concert blues, well, here's to, I, I don't want to
- 3:14Speaker 1: use the phrase make it worse because if you see
- 3:16Speaker 1: Pictures or videos of the concert, you might go, No,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I wanna go back to Tuesday night. But Lewe has
- 3:21Speaker 1: very kindly posted her highlights of the Singapore tour. Go
- 3:25Speaker 1: to her account right now, and she's one of the
- 3:27Speaker 1: very few Instagram accounts with the golden circle that represents
- 3:31Speaker 1: her Insta story updates and all that. So please go
- 3:34Speaker 1: have a look, give it a like and thank Lewe.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Perhaps she can come back next time.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And you know what, I, I hope the next time
- 3:41Speaker 1: she does 2 nights here in Singapore, maybe one night
- 3:44Speaker 1: at the indoor stadium again and the other night at
- 3:48Speaker 1: the Esplanade concert hall. I think her music and given
- 3:53Speaker 1: the Esplanade acoustics, it would sound absolutely amazing, but I'm
- 3:57Speaker 1: very sure.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Maybe if she were to stage a more intimate show
- 4:01Speaker 1: over at the Esplanade, ticket prices might be quite high. 987, hello,
- 4:06Speaker 1: what's your name? Hi, hi, I'm Elijah. Hello, Elijah, and
- 4:10Speaker 1: what school are you headed to today? Primary School. Oh, OK.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So are you excited as the new MRT station coming up?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Is it near your primary school?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Uh, yeah. All right, all the best. What level are
- 4:23Speaker 1: you in, man?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Uh, primary 6. Primary 6. So, OK, the standard question
- 4:28Speaker 1: to ask any primary 6 student, how is studying for
- 4:31Speaker 1: your PSLE?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Um, good. OK, are you stressed by anything? Uh, not really. OK,
- 4:38Speaker 1: so what is your best subject? Which one do you
- 4:40Speaker 1: think guarantee you do well for? Math. Math. OK. So
- 4:45Speaker 1: if you were to tell me one fantastic thing about
- 4:48Speaker 1: Cantonment Primary School, what would that be?
- 4:50Speaker 2: Um,
- 4:53Speaker 2: We have like a place in our canteen, which is
- 4:56Speaker 2: called the Reading Nook where students can go there to
- 4:59Speaker 2: like read books.
- 5:00Speaker 1: OK, what kind of books are you into?
- 5:03Speaker 2: I like comics.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Comics, of course. Loved my comics when I was back
- 5:07Speaker 1: in primary school as well. Return of the Condor Heroes.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think millennials might know this one. OK, Elijah, time
- 5:13Speaker 1: to ask for your favorite song to play here on 987.
- 5:15Speaker 1: What song would that be?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Beauty and the
- 5:18Speaker 2: Beast by
- 5:19Speaker 2: Justin Bieber. Oh,
- 5:20Speaker 1: going old school, OK. Do you want to give this
- 5:22Speaker 1: to anyone, to your friends or whoever?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Um, to my father,
- 5:28Speaker 1: to your father who's driving you to school, I guess.
- 5:31Speaker 2: No, I'm in a school bus. Oh,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you're in a school bus. OK, so to your dad,
- 5:36Speaker 1: enjoy it and thank you very much for your call. OK, Elijah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: take care, man. OK. Bye-bye.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Elijah of Cantonment Primary School, that song going out to you.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Thank you so much for calling us and letting us
- 5:45Speaker 1: know about the reading corner that you have over at
- 5:49Speaker 1: the school canteen and the people who live in the
- 5:52Speaker 1: Cantonment area, Prince Edward, as well as Keppel. Congratulations. By
- 5:57Speaker 1: July 12th, all three Circle Line stations.
- 6:03Speaker 1: will finally be open and the circle line is the
- 6:06Speaker 1: circle at last. We had to wait a while, but
- 6:08Speaker 1: we finally got there in time. When we come back
- 6:12Speaker 1: here on the shock circuit, uh, you know, us here
- 6:14Speaker 1: in Singapore, we have a bit of a bird situation
- 6:17Speaker 1: with the pigeons, the crows, the miners, but
- 6:20Speaker 1: Be, be, be thankful we, we don't have many seagulls
- 6:24Speaker 1: to deal with. Because if you go to places like
- 6:27Speaker 1: Australia or maybe even the UK to a coastal town,
- 6:31Speaker 1: your number one public enemy, open inverted commas, could be
- 6:34Speaker 1: the seagulls, them trying to soup your food, and seagull droppings.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Not even royalty was spared. So you don't know, here
- 6:45Speaker 1: in Singapore, we're dealing with the crows, the pigeons, the miner.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And uh yeah, I, I hope it's improving. Haven't read
- 6:54Speaker 1: much about it in the news as of yet, but
- 6:56Speaker 1: the crows in Bishan still out and about. They always
- 7:00Speaker 1: have meetings, you know, at 4:15 or 4:30 p.m. at
- 7:04Speaker 1: the barricade railing towards the Longkang where Bishan Stadium is. Yeah,
- 7:08Speaker 1: they're always there, and it's like they're meeting and shower time.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Even they are having an ice bath club of themselves, uh, sauna,
- 7:14Speaker 1: they sit in the railings for a while, then go
- 7:17Speaker 1: to the water, then back to the railings again.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But in the UK and maybe even coastal towns like
- 7:22Speaker 1: in Europe or Australia, you would know the seagulls, they
- 7:25Speaker 1: are next level. They are next level, violent, inverted commas.
- 7:30Speaker 1: They don't care. They'll swoop down at your food, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: I remember when I was in Australia, Melbourne, this is
- 7:35Speaker 1: almost 10 years ago now. Bought myself some nice fish
- 7:38Speaker 1: and chips, wanted to go to Saint Paul's lookout just
- 7:41Speaker 1: to sit there by the beach and enjoy the view
- 7:43Speaker 1: and the sound, the waves and all that, but the
- 7:46Speaker 1: moment I stopped the car,
- 7:48Speaker 1: The seagulls, they know, they're not flying above you. They
- 7:52Speaker 1: are hovering above you, waiting for you to come out,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and the moment you do, they'll swoop down, try to
- 7:57Speaker 1: steal as many fish or french fries as they can.
- 8:01Speaker 1: No one is spared from the seagulls and even royalty
- 8:04Speaker 1: because in the UK in a coastal town, King Charles
- 8:07Speaker 1: himself was doing a visit and unfortunately, in that video
- 8:12Speaker 1: as covered by the BBC.
- 8:15Speaker 1: The moment they cut to a back shot, you can
- 8:17Speaker 1: see a very obvious.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Well, stain that is seagulls droppings. Yup. The BBC reporter
- 8:25Speaker 1: actually reported on it as well and they were able
- 8:28Speaker 1: to get a small audio of King Charles interacting with
- 8:31Speaker 1: people who came to get his autograph and take pictures
- 8:33Speaker 1: with him because they were saying, oh, your Your Majesty,
- 8:36Speaker 1: there's there's something on the back of your jacket, and
- 8:39Speaker 1: here is what he said. If you can't hear it,
- 8:44Speaker 1: he said, at least it did not land on my head.
- 8:47Speaker 1: There you go.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Oh, the, the amount of memes that would have happened
- 8:52Speaker 1: if that actually did take place where the droppings landed
- 8:55Speaker 1: on his head. So there you go. The Kid Leroy
- 8:57Speaker 1: with Girls right here on 987, your number one hit
- 8:59Speaker 1: music station. He will be here in Singapore very soon
- 9:02Speaker 1: for a concert, and I think for 987, given how
- 9:05Speaker 1: we are the official radio station, we might be having
- 9:08Speaker 1: a simple chat with the Kid Leroy very soon via
- 9:12Speaker 1: maybe say a Zoom call to ask more details about
- 9:15Speaker 1: what we can expect from his concert.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Tour and not forgetting new music. And speaking of concert tour, well,
- 9:22Speaker 1: today is the day the weekend tickets go on sale
- 9:26Speaker 1: for general sale. So I don't know how many tickets
- 9:29Speaker 1: are left because I'm looking at the seat map right
- 9:32Speaker 1: now in terms of the artist pre-sale, the visa pre-sale,
- 9:36Speaker 1: and the Live Nation pre-sale. Yeah, they were all getting
- 9:39Speaker 1: snapped up, but hopefully, general sales open and you can
- 9:43Speaker 1: get the ticket that you want.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Uh, when I checked yesterday during the Visa pre-sale, the
- 9:49Speaker 1: more expensive sections, some limited tickets were still available, and
- 9:54Speaker 1: the standing pens, it was fully available, but of course
- 9:57Speaker 1: selling fast and limited. So let's hope there's enough for
- 10:00Speaker 1: you today. If you wanna go on either October 2nd
- 10:03Speaker 1: on a Friday and October 3rd, Saturday. This is why
- 10:07Speaker 1: both nights are actually proving to be very popular, and
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm very sure.
- 10:10Speaker 1: There are a few who might want to go for
- 10:12Speaker 1: both nights. Maybe one seated and one at the standing pen,
- 10:16Speaker 1: because that is what I'm trying to do. I want
- 10:18Speaker 1: to sit down the first night to enjoy it and
- 10:20Speaker 1: plan my photos, and then the next day, if I
- 10:23Speaker 1: can get one ticket, standing pen, and I post it
- 10:26Speaker 1: for you on 987. This right here on 987, your
- 10:29Speaker 1: number one hit music station. Joakim Gomez here with you.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Not too sure about you, but woke up this morning
- 10:35Speaker 1: and while on my ride, coming to the office, was
- 10:39Speaker 1: just scrolling through social media, catching up on news articles,
- 10:43Speaker 1: thinking about what to share with you and how to
- 10:45Speaker 1: share it with you here on 987, but it seems
- 10:48Speaker 1: like in the jobs sector,
- 10:51Speaker 1: Wow, it's been hit after hit after hit. I mean,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm talking about how Meta's cutting loads of jobs. If
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm not wrong, Google as well, and then you have
- 11:04Speaker 1: the Stand chart CEO.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Using the phrase, what was it? Lower capital, sorry, lower something.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Let me, let me get the exact words for you, OK,
- 11:16Speaker 1: because yesterday I was having a field day reading about this.
- 11:18Speaker 1: There you go, lower value human capital when he was
- 11:23Speaker 1: talking about this and how they're gonna use more AI
- 11:27Speaker 1: technology in the banks and all that, to which I
- 11:29Speaker 1: was just thinking, sir, you are the CEO of a company,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you're going on a, you know, platform that's gonna be
- 11:36Speaker 1: broadcast to the entire world.
- 11:38Speaker 1: You could not have asked Chad GPT on a friendlier
- 11:40Speaker 1: way to say the phrase, lower value human capital to
- 11:44Speaker 1: the point where even our ex-president, former president, Madam Halimah Yacob,
- 11:48Speaker 1: had a thing or two to say about it on Facebook.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You can go read it for yourself. And then also
- 11:53Speaker 1: on the back of H&M shifting their East Asia headquarters
- 11:57Speaker 1: from Singapore to KL Malaysia.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And a few months now, I guess ago, we shared
- 12:03Speaker 1: with you about how Tiger beer breweries, that they are
- 12:05Speaker 1: no longer gonna brew the beer in Singapore. They might
- 12:07Speaker 1: shift it to Malaysia and Vietnam. Joining in the ranks,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I'm sad to say Gardenia. Gardenia bread, yes. It's so
- 12:16Speaker 1: good you can even eat it on its own. That's
- 12:18Speaker 1: the tagline and that's the jingle, right? Oh, gardenia, it's
- 12:22Speaker 1: so good it could even eat it on its own.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Um, I was just checking, is it a Singaporean brand? Apparently,
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's Singapore-based and it was opened at Bukit Timah Plaza
- 12:35Speaker 1: a long time ago before it became a bakery over
- 12:38Speaker 1: at Pandan Loop.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And now it's gonna be shifting over to Johor Bahru. So,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Singapore will still be used as a headquarters for, you know, brand, uh,
- 12:47Speaker 1: to make sure the brand is doing well, brand, brand, uh,
- 12:50Speaker 1: checks and brand quality. That's the word I was looking for.
- 12:53Speaker 1: But in terms of where the bread is being made,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it'll be in Johor Bahru, and the last day of
- 12:59Speaker 1: operations at the Pandan Luke Bakery will be 30th of
- 13:03Speaker 1: June this year. Again, jobs have been cut.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's an interesting time. I'm just staying close to the
- 13:09Speaker 1: news to find out what really is going on. Are
- 13:12Speaker 1: we entering a recession? Are we in one? And how
- 13:15Speaker 1: is AI really benefiting all of us in the job
- 13:19Speaker 1: sector because it is tough and to the point where,
- 13:21Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, in the US, loads of schools
- 13:25Speaker 1: are having graduation ceremonies, and some of these schools, they'll
- 13:28Speaker 1: get very high profile people to come down and talk.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Some even got the ex-CEO of Google, some got the
- 13:34Speaker 1: Media chairman and all that. And it's interesting because whenever
- 13:38Speaker 1: they brought up AI and how AI is the future,
- 13:41Speaker 1: what happens? The entire student cohort, they booted the speech.
- 13:45Speaker 1: There you go. It's available for you online. You can
- 13:47Speaker 1: go search it up. Wanna give local stand-up comedian Rishi
- 13:50Speaker 1: Budrani a huge shout out. Congratulations, Rishi.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So, we had Rishi in the studio a few weeks
- 14:00Speaker 1: ago to share about his 3rd staging of Can I
- 14:03Speaker 1: Make You a Suit Mate, to which yesterday over at
- 14:06Speaker 1: Wild Rise Theater, we had a very nice show staged
- 14:10Speaker 1: by Rishi, of course. I brought my dad to go
- 14:12Speaker 1: watch this. So this is also a mixture of Rishi's
- 14:17Speaker 1: storytelling ability.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And as well as his stand-up comedian side to him
- 14:21Speaker 1: and audience interaction. I'm not gonna spoil too much for you,
- 14:25Speaker 1: but it, it really was a great storytelling by Rishi,
- 14:29Speaker 1: filled with laughs, couple of moments where your heartstrings were
- 14:34Speaker 1: tugged on as he told the story about his father,
- 14:37Speaker 1: who's an actual suit maker here in Singapore over at Abbas.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Taylor's. Number 4 Smith Street at Chinatown. Hopefully, I got
- 14:46Speaker 1: that right, Rishi. So, tickets are still available. If I'm
- 14:49Speaker 1: not wrong, they are priced at $68.58 dollars, and $48.
- 14:54Speaker 1: If you wanna take your dad for an early Father's
- 14:57Speaker 1: Day gift or a Father's Day laugh, I recommend this show.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Take him to go see Rishi for Can I Make
- 15:04Speaker 1: You a Suit Ma and
- 15:05Speaker 1: At the curtain call, Rishi was sharing that how this
- 15:08Speaker 1: is the last staging of it here in Singapore, but
- 15:11Speaker 1: he is in talks to take this show overseas. So
- 15:15Speaker 1: to Rishi, congrats again. Have a fantastic run once again
- 15:18Speaker 1: over at the Wild Rice Theater at Funan. So, inspired
- 15:24Speaker 1: by Mr. Rishi Budhrani, where he's staging a show called
- 15:27Speaker 1: Can I Make You a Suit Ma. It's a show
- 15:30Speaker 1: loosely based on the life of Rishi's dad.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And the way Rishi Budhrani told that story on stage,
- 15:37Speaker 1: incorporating his stand-up comedy experience, audience interaction. Yeah, it's a
- 15:42Speaker 1: funny show, but it will also tug at your heartstrings.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I actually found myself tearing up at a few moments,
- 15:48Speaker 1: so I don't want to spoil too much of it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I'll leave it for you to go find out for yourself.
- 15:51Speaker 1: If you wanna go catch it over at Rao Rice Theater.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Tickets are available, but inspired by that, I wanna bring
- 15:58Speaker 1: that combo to my dad, lah.
- 16:01Speaker 1: This man, I believe whatever I'm doing now for a living,
- 16:06Speaker 1: being in the entertainment scene and all that, if you
- 16:09Speaker 1: know my dad, you would definitely say, what, Joakim, you're
- 16:12Speaker 1: truly your father's son, because he was an entertainer as well.
- 16:16Speaker 1: He played music. He, he loved to speak to crowds
- 16:20Speaker 1: and make sure they are all welcomed and they feel
- 16:23Speaker 1: Comfortable at the location they're in. He's even emceed a
- 16:26Speaker 1: few weddings and a few shows to which I look
- 16:28Speaker 1: at him and I go, oh my God, yeah, I,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I really am following in his footsteps, even though him
- 16:35Speaker 1: and my mom separated a long time ago, at least
- 16:38Speaker 1: I still have my dad somewhat present in my life
- 16:41Speaker 1: growing up and as I got older and I entered
- 16:42Speaker 1: the industry, I did ask him for some tips and
- 16:45Speaker 1: all that. But the one quirky habit my dad has,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and I don't know about you.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And I'm very sure I've shared this before here on 987,
- 16:55Speaker 1: maybe a few years ago.
- 16:57Speaker 1: It's, for example, yesterday, OK? The agreed meeting time was
- 17:03Speaker 1: 6:00 p.m. I told my dad, Dad, I know your habit,
- 17:07Speaker 1: but please, tomorrow 6:00 p.m. means come at 5:55 or even,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you know, 5:50 or 6:05 or so, OK. 6:00 p.m.
- 17:16Speaker 1: is the meeting time.
- 17:18Speaker 1: My dad has this very interesting habit. He likes to
- 17:22Speaker 1: show up half an hour or 45 minutes early.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And then the standard text, hey, I'm here, where are you?
- 17:32Speaker 1: I replied, Dad
- 17:34Speaker 1: 6 p.m. You are there at 5:24 p.m. What am
- 17:38Speaker 1: I supposed to do? You know, I, I don't have
- 17:41Speaker 1: your habit of coming so early, and he goes, OK,
- 17:44Speaker 1: never mind, I'll walk around. So he walks around the
- 17:46Speaker 1: entire area and about 5:50, he texts me, OK, I'm
- 17:49Speaker 1: at a control station. I walked around enough already. So I,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I was there early by my standards, OK, 6:00 p.m.
- 17:55Speaker 1: meeting time, 5:55 I was there, so I'm happy.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And I just say, what do you do? And he
- 18:00Speaker 1: tells me, wow, son, the CBD area really changed so
- 18:04Speaker 1: much about the food here, the price is very expensive.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Last time I used to work here, it wasn't like that.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I said, Dad, yes, last time. Times have changed, inflation
- 18:13Speaker 1: and all that.
- 18:14Speaker 1: So, inspired by my dad and it doesn't have to
- 18:17Speaker 1: be specific to your dad. It could be your parent,
- 18:20Speaker 1: could could be a family member or anything. 669-11987 or
- 18:26Speaker 1: you can even WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 18:31Speaker 1: What is the one quirky habit your parents have that
- 18:34Speaker 1: you just like, hey, can you all please stop, huh?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Could be a similar thing my dad has about coming early,
- 18:40Speaker 1: or it could be latecomers. Yeah, let us know. 669-11987
- 18:45Speaker 1: or 90050987. If we do like your story, what's coming

- 19:35Speaker 1: you have to do, 669-11987. Let us know about a
- 19:38Speaker 1: quirky habit your parents have. Inspired by my dad and
- 19:41Speaker 1: his penchant for coming super early, not early, but super early.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Took my dad out for dinner and
- 19:48Speaker 1: Rishi Budhrani show over at Wara Easter Theater, that one
- 19:52Speaker 1: called Can I Make You a Soup, mate? The agreed
- 19:54Speaker 1: meeting time was 6:00 p.m. but I know my dad.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I know my dad too well. Fellow shows up at
- 19:59Speaker 1: 5:24 p.m. What what what do I do? I just said, Dad,
- 20:04Speaker 1: you wait.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'll be there at 5:55, OK? I'm still early. 669-011-987
- 20:11Speaker 1: or 90050987. Well, what's a quirky habit your parents might have?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Wanna say hello to Alim. Hello Alim. Regular texter here
- 20:20Speaker 1: on the show and almost like family already. Morning, Joakim.
- 20:24Speaker 1: My mom has this quirky habit of vacuuming the house 24/7.
- 20:28Speaker 1: One hour after vacuuming the house, she will vacuum again.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Even when the floor is clean. If she sees even
- 20:34Speaker 1: a speck of dust, there she goes, vacuuming the whole house.
- 20:37Speaker 1: You have to replace vacuums even faster than changing handphones, wah.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Wonder what brand she's using now. It could be Dyson perhaps.
- 20:45Speaker 1: One coming in from WL. WL you say my mom
- 20:48Speaker 1: video calling me and my wife at 1 a.m. and
- 20:51Speaker 1: 3 a.m. in the morning cause she accidentally pressed.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Aiyo, your mom is scrolling TikTok or playing Candy Crush
- 20:59Speaker 1: and she butt dials you. Go to the phone lines
- 21:01Speaker 1: to 669-119-87. Doris, what about you?
- 21:06Speaker 2: No, it's actually my sister-in-law. Your sister-in-law,
- 21:09Speaker 1: OK,
- 21:10Speaker 2: what does she do? Yeah, and
- 21:10Speaker 2: she's really quite old. And then every time when we
- 21:14Speaker 2: go out, she will come one hour earlier just like
- 21:18Speaker 2: your dad. And because she's so old, right, I can't
- 21:22Speaker 2: just leave her. So every time I'm like in a panic.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And, and, and like I have to leave very, very,
- 21:30Speaker 2: very early. And then when I go there, I wouldn't
- 21:34Speaker 2: be able to find her. And then I panic again.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Does she say why she enjoys coming super early?
- 21:42Speaker 2: She's afraid she's late.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Wow, OK, you gotta admire that, I
- 21:48Speaker 2: think.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a better deal than being late lah, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 2: so I, I, I can't really complain, but, you know,
- 21:57Speaker 2: just old people being old people, no matter how much
- 22:00Speaker 2: I tell her, every single time when we have an appointment,
- 22:03Speaker 2: she will reach 1 hour early or sometimes 1.5 hour early.
- 22:08Speaker 2: So can you imagine if I want to meet her
- 22:09Speaker 2: for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. she literally
- 22:13Speaker 2: She will be there like 6+.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Have you tried giving her a later timing like you
- 22:18Speaker 1: tell her 9 a.m.? No,
- 22:19Speaker 2: I have not. I have not.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm afraid that then she has to wait too long.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Oh
- 22:24Speaker 2: no. Yeah, in case
- 22:27Speaker 2: she doesn't follow her method, then what am I supposed
- 22:30Speaker 2: to do? I, I, I can't let her wait so
- 22:32Speaker 2: long with her, her kind of
- 22:34Speaker 2: age,
- 22:34Speaker 1: right? On the topic.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Of a quirky habit your parents might have or maybe
- 22:40Speaker 1: anyone around you, inspired by my dad and his penchant
- 22:43Speaker 1: for coming super early. Again, I tell him 6 p.m.
- 22:47Speaker 1: he'll be there at 5:20, 5:24 p.m. This happened to
- 22:50Speaker 1: me yesterday, to which he spent his time walking around
- 22:53Speaker 1: the CBD and then he was telling grandfather stories now.
- 22:58Speaker 1: About how he used to work there, this building, that building,
- 23:01Speaker 1: he played at this club before and all that. Interesting
- 23:04Speaker 1: stories really from your parents. Going to the WhatsApp number,
- 23:08Speaker 1: 90050987 and saying hello to Jay. Jay says, morning Solo Joe.
- 23:15Speaker 1: It's not about my parents, but I used to have
- 23:17Speaker 1: a friend. She would leave the house the time
- 23:20Speaker 1: We meet. For example, if the meeting time is 6,
- 23:23Speaker 1: she will only leave the house at 6 and she drives,
- 23:25Speaker 1: whereby I'm the always on time person or early bird,
- 23:29Speaker 1: but early by 5 to 10 minutes. I'll feel panicky
- 23:32Speaker 1: if I'm gonna be late, just like now, I'm an
- 23:34Speaker 1: orientation at 9:00 a.m. I've just started eating. I took
- 23:38Speaker 1: so long to get my food. Well, Jay, all the
- 23:40Speaker 1: best for you and your orientation.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Let's go to the phone lines right now. 669-119-87. Cindy,
- 23:48Speaker 1: any stories you wanna
- 23:49Speaker 2: share? Oh, not really, but my father does not like
- 23:53Speaker 2: spending money on us, I mean on us or we
- 23:56Speaker 2: spend it on him and doesn't like to go out
- 23:59Speaker 2: to dinner with us. But there was one day.
- 24:02Speaker 2: He decided to go downstairs with me for lunch and
- 24:05Speaker 2: ice cream. Thereafter we passed by a general store, and
- 24:09Speaker 2: I told him, we should change your booster.
- 24:12Speaker 2: And he agreed. Then 2 weeks later he passed on.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Oh no,
- 24:18Speaker 2: I'm so sad, but also because we had the best moment.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Thank you so much for sharing with me though. So
- 24:24Speaker 1: who ended up paying for the bolster, if you don't
- 24:26Speaker 1: mind me asking Cindy?
- 24:28Speaker 2: I mean, I spend, I spend on him. So I'm
- 24:31Speaker 2: so happy that we spend so much on time with
- 24:35Speaker 2: him and we spend the kind of little money, the
- 24:37Speaker 2: thought that counts.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Thank you so much for calling in and sharing this, um,
- 24:41Speaker 1: memory of yours with your dad, Cindy. I really appreciate it.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Take care, OK? Yeah, yeah. OK. Take care. Bye bye.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Wanna say good morning to you on WhatsApp. Efafa, you say, hey, Joakim,
- 24:53Speaker 1: my best friend is the kind that only gets
- 24:54Speaker 1: Ready at the time that we're supposed to meet. So
- 24:57Speaker 1: if you're meeting at 8:00 a.m. she's just hopping into
- 24:59Speaker 1: the shower at that time, but if you're flying for
- 25:02Speaker 1: a vacation, she's at the airport 3 to 4 hours
- 25:06Speaker 1: before the flight. It's weird, but at least we won't
- 25:09Speaker 1: miss our flight.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I Wanna say good morning as well on WhatsApp to Sri. Shri,
- 25:15Speaker 1: you say, blessed morning Joakim. My dad has this weird
- 25:18Speaker 1: habit of standing in the kitchen when we're cooking and
- 25:21Speaker 1: waiting to wash or put back the used items even
- 25:24Speaker 1: before we're done.
- 25:28Speaker 1: This is, this is interesting. I will cut the meat
- 25:31Speaker 1: and jump to stir the gravy for like 5 seconds,
- 25:33Speaker 1: and before I can get back to chopping, he'll be
- 25:35Speaker 1: washing the knife and we'll just laugh it off. He's
- 25:38Speaker 1: old and I don't know when will be the last smile,
- 25:40Speaker 1: so cherishing the quirkiness whole while it lasts. Thank you
- 25:44Speaker 1: so much for your text, Shri. Going to the phone lines, Jen,
- 25:47Speaker 1: what's your story?
- 25:48Speaker 2: So one quirky
- 25:48Speaker 2: habit that my mom actually has is that she loves
- 25:50Speaker 2: replanting her leaves. So you know there's some plants where
- 25:53Speaker 2: you can grow a new plant from the fallen leaves,
- 25:56Speaker 2: and she'll start collecting those. So then like every corner
- 25:58Speaker 2: of our house there's like plants in plastic bottles and
- 26:01Speaker 2: there's in pots, and sometimes the plants even end up
- 26:03Speaker 2: in our toilet. So it's like, yeah, our house is
- 26:07Speaker 2: becoming like botanic gardens. So there's like
- 26:09Speaker 2: greenery.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Do you have green fingers or is it just your mom?
- 26:13Speaker 2: I think just my mom, but it spread to my
- 26:15Speaker 2: dad also.
- 26:16Speaker 1: OK, and have you told them, Mom, dad, I think
- 26:19Speaker 1: enough is enough. Please enough plants in the house.
- 26:22Speaker 2: But you know what, to be fair, it makes our
- 26:23Speaker 2: house look kind of nice.
- 26:25Speaker 1: OK lah, then at least he's doing it
- 26:26Speaker 2: with
- 26:26Speaker 1: a
- 26:27Speaker 2: reason.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, Jenny. Take care,
- 26:29Speaker 2: OK? Thank you. Bye-bye.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Bye-bye.
- 26:32Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing how radio can connect with anyone
- 26:36Speaker 1: who is tuned in. So, I was speaking about my
- 26:39Speaker 1: dad and again, if you are an old-timer musician, and
- 26:44Speaker 1: if you're tuned in to 987, you definitely know his name,
- 26:46Speaker 1: Steven Gomez. And I just received a text from Humphrey Conceal.
- 26:51Speaker 1: What up, Humphrey?
- 26:53Speaker 1: He is talking about my dad in his text. So
- 26:56Speaker 1: let me just read it to you here on 987
- 26:58Speaker 1: and share it with you, OK? Morning, Joakim. Just a
- 27:01Speaker 1: follow-up story on your dad. He is one of the
- 27:04Speaker 1: few remaining people who I can count on as a
- 27:07Speaker 1: responsible and dependable.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Artist. When we used to get him for our gigs,
- 27:12Speaker 1: we know he would always be there very early to prep.
- 27:16Speaker 1: We never had to worry. This has developed good characteristics
- 27:19Speaker 1: in the man. He and I come from a time
- 27:21Speaker 1: where without phones, we had to make prearrangements and turn
- 27:24Speaker 1: up on time.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think like me, we buzz you early so that
- 27:28Speaker 1: we can gauge how long for you to get to us,
- 27:31Speaker 1: so we can scout the area. I hope the younger
- 27:33Speaker 1: people learn this discipline, unlike many who, because of the
- 27:36Speaker 1: convenience of phones, at the 11th hour, will call to
- 27:40Speaker 1: say they'll be late as a habit. I really appreciate
- 27:43Speaker 1: your dad, Steven.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I, uh,
- 27:47Speaker 1: Crying in the studio. Very quickly, thank you so much
- 27:50Speaker 1: for all your calls and texts earlier, really.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Sharing about the quirky habits our parents might have, and
- 27:57Speaker 1: I want to give today's Luche dining experience to Jen,
- 28:01Speaker 1: who called us earlier sharing about how her mom has
- 28:04Speaker 1: somehow turned their house into Singapore Botanic Gardens. Jen, for that,
- 28:08Speaker 1: bring your mom and dad to a very nice meal
- 28:10Speaker 1: over at Luce Frasier's house. Congratulations. If they love pasta
- 28:14Speaker 1: and fusion food,
- 28:16Speaker 1: And OK, before I kick off the interview with our
- 28:19Speaker 1: friends from the Lego Group, I wanna share with you
- 28:21Speaker 1: about another interview that we're doing tomorrow, live on the
- 28:24Speaker 1: shock circuit. I'm very happy to have lived in a
- 28:28Speaker 1: generation where I got to see them play football. They've
- 28:31Speaker 1: now retired from the game and I believe one of
- 28:33Speaker 1: them could be a pundit, the other one just enjoying
- 28:35Speaker 1: retirement life but still keeping active. Tomorrow, if you're a
- 28:40Speaker 1: football fan,
- 28:41Speaker 1: We have Chelsea legend Joe Cole and Manchester United legend
- 28:47Speaker 1: Emanja Vidic joining us in the studio.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Together with our friends from StarHub, we have Mr. Jan
- 28:54Speaker 1: Kolku coming back to the studio. He was here last
- 28:57Speaker 1: year with Joe Hart. Gonna share with us more about
- 28:59Speaker 1: the final day screening activation StarHub will be having over
- 29:04Speaker 1: at the Clark Quay Fountain Square. I cannot wait. And
- 29:07Speaker 1: of course, yes, I got all my football questions lined
- 29:10Speaker 1: up for Joe Cole of Chelsea and Nemanja Vidic of
- 29:13Speaker 1: Manchester United.
