- 1:01Speaker 2: the things that in eighty five years somebody has seen
- 1:04Speaker 2: you know the way the world's changed, the way the
- 1:06Speaker 2: world continues to change. Well, that is great. I hope
- 1:09Speaker 2: you guys have a wonderful happy birthday. My significant other
- 1:14Speaker 2: and I might be going to see an Orioles game.

- 1:19Speaker 2: have never been to Oriole Park at Camden Yard.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Never.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I've walked through there, but I've never seen a game.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's one of the best ballparks in
- 1:28Speaker 4: the country.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That is what they say.
- 1:30Speaker 4: You know, Oh, You've got to walk around outside of it,
- 1:32Speaker 4: like there's so many cool cool things.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I mean I remember walking by there
- 1:38Speaker 2: and seeing like little things on the ground where people
- 1:40Speaker 2: hit home runs too and stuff. But she posed that question,
- 1:44Speaker 2: and I think we might end up doing it, although
- 1:47Speaker 2: I haven't checked the schedule, but it was one of
- 1:49Speaker 2: those things where we just kind of were thrown around
- 1:51Speaker 2: things that we might want to do to say Saturday,
- 1:53Speaker 2: and that came up, and I'm like, hmm.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Well, hopefully you will make it happen tomorrow.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I've never I've seen a ballgame that I haven't enjoyed
- 2:03Speaker 2: seeing in person, So we'll have to see what we'll

- 3:03Speaker 3: close the building for two years of renovations and also
- 3:06Speaker 3: to restore the president's name to it, adding the inscription
- 3:10Speaker 3: restored and renovated by President Donald J.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Trump.
- 3:14Speaker 3: This all comes after a federal judge had already ordered
- 3:17Speaker 3: that his name needed to be removed from the building.
- 3:21Speaker 3: The World War II Memorial was vandalyzed yesterday with spray
- 3:24Speaker 3: painted graffiti that read clean hands, Dirty money, while the
- 3:27Speaker 3: fountains overflowed with soap bubbles. US Park Police closed the
- 3:32Speaker 3: memorial and are now investigating. Alexandria police say a programming
- 3:37Speaker 3: error led to one hundred and fifteen incorrect speed camera
- 3:40Speaker 3: citations near Hammond Middle School between August and February, and
- 3:45Speaker 3: anyone who paid will be automatically refunded. DC's DMV has
- 3:50Speaker 3: launched a new Purple Heart specialty license plate for combat
- 3:53Speaker 3: wounded veterans and their surviving spouses. There is no annual feet,
- 3:59Speaker 3: just a one time, ten day application with proceeds that'll
- 4:02Speaker 3: support the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs. And a new
- 4:05Speaker 3: report finds that business and Accounting now are the top
- 4:10Speaker 3: college majors nationwide for twenty twenty six, and that's followed
- 4:14Speaker 3: by Health, Sciences and engineering. Majors offering practical skills and
- 4:19Speaker 3: clearer paths are seeing the biggest gains overall. Forecast today
- 4:24Speaker 3: cloudy's guys, with a chance of scattered storms this afternoon.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Highs around eighty five right now seventy five in Gainesville.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And that's the news top stories. Yours at the top
- 4:33Speaker 2: of the hour when you get up with ninety seven
- 4:35Speaker 2: point one watch FM and Toby and Chile in the
- 4:37Speaker 2: morning and coming in just a few minutes, Wake up Toby,
- 4:41Speaker 2: it's Friday. I know your morning mindset. It's when we
- 4:45Speaker 2: talk about how you're doing. And since it is Friday,
- 4:48Speaker 2: we go back to the eighties and nineties and the
- 4:50Speaker 2: lyrics of some songs from the past to find inspiration
- 4:54Speaker 2: for today, all in honor of your Best of the
- 4:57Speaker 2: Eighties weekend. It starts today at five. Don't miss that.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's just a few minutes away Friday morning in the
- 5:06Speaker 2: nation's capital. It's ninety seven point one, Watch up VM
- 5:09Speaker 2: Shelby at Chilly in the morning, and it's time now
- 5:11Speaker 2: for us to talk about you with your morning mindset.
- 5:13Speaker 3: This is where we pause, find a quote and share
- 5:15Speaker 3: it with you now. On our Fridays, we always kick
- 5:18Speaker 3: off our Best of the eighties and nineties weekend at
- 5:20Speaker 3: five pm.
- 5:21Speaker 4: And you tend to find a lyric from one of
- 5:23Speaker 4: those decades.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yes, because you know two decades of music and songs
- 5:27Speaker 2: that have inspired I think there's probably something we can
- 5:30Speaker 2: find from them that will inspire us now. And so
- 5:34Speaker 2: from the eighties, Crowded House the song something so Strong,
- 5:38Speaker 2: and specifically the lyrics, something so strong could carry us away,
- 5:42Speaker 2: something so strong could carry us today. Okay, so what
- 5:48Speaker 2: are the people in Crowded House when they wrote that
- 5:51Speaker 2: in nineteen eighty seven? What are they trying to say
- 5:53Speaker 2: to us that applies to today? Well, I think that
- 5:57Speaker 2: it might be this, we're often stronger than the thing
- 6:02Speaker 2: or things that we're afraid might break us. Yeah, we're
- 6:06Speaker 2: often stronger than the thing or the things which we're
- 6:09Speaker 2: afraid might break us. I don't know what that might
- 6:12Speaker 2: be for you. I know that there are probably any
- 6:14Speaker 2: number of things that, at times, if I'm honest, I'm
- 6:17Speaker 2: afraid of that could break things. But you know what,
- 6:21Speaker 2: we're stronger than that. So if that song comes on
- 6:23Speaker 2: this weekend, remember that we talked about this. And if
- 6:26Speaker 2: you don't hear it, well, if you're really, really good,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'll put I'll put a link to it of the
- 6:33Speaker 2: video that is on the Toby and chilipage at WASHFM
- 6:36Speaker 2: dot com at your morning mindset. And if something inspires
- 6:38Speaker 2: you and you think about it over the weekend, feel
- 6:40Speaker 2: free to send it our way and perhaps you too
- 6:42Speaker 2: could inspire the DMV in this space on Monday with
- 6:47Speaker 2: another morning mindset. We're Toby and Chilly in the morning.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It is ninety seven point one wash FM. Now that
- 6:52Speaker 2: you're good to go mentally, stay with us because we're
- 6:55Speaker 2: good to go with TikTok shop.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Look, if you're on tiktoks, sometimes you get sucked into
- 7:01Speaker 3: ordering stuff, buying stuff. You said you bought your first
- 7:06Speaker 3: thing off of the TikTok shop.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yep, and here's this thing that came in.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Oh Lord, have mercy. You're gonna have to give us
- 7:13Speaker 3: more details.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, Chili, I know you are a seasoned shopper
- 7:19Speaker 2: on TikTok. It's n e seven point one wash up.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Then Toby and Chili in the morning. Oh yeah, I, however,
- 7:24Speaker 2: am not a seasoned shopper. And the other night at home,
- 7:28Speaker 2: before I fell asleep, I just was poking around on
- 7:31Speaker 2: TikTok looking at crazy things, because that's what you do,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and I came across those ads that they now run
- 7:36Speaker 2: on TikTok. One of them came up or a screen protector,
- 7:39Speaker 2: which is something I don't currently have on my phone,
- 7:41Speaker 2: which is very important to have for your phone. I
- 7:43Speaker 2: bought this screen protector that I'm holding in my hand
- 7:45Speaker 2: right now, chili, and it's very It was very inexpensive.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It was less than twenty dollars.
- 7:50Speaker 3: You are rolling the dice because to your point, it
- 7:52Speaker 3: doesn't cost a lot of money, so it's tempting to
- 7:54Speaker 3: take that risk. And personally, it's literally fifty to fifty.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Half the time, I'm like, man, this it really was
- 8:00Speaker 3: worth seven bucks or eight bucks or whatever I paid,
- 8:03Speaker 3: And then the other half of the time it's junk,
- 8:05Speaker 3: like not even worth seven cents.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Well, no, I'm like, do I want to put this
- 8:09Speaker 2: on my phone? Because what if it is the other
- 8:11Speaker 2: side of that fifty to fifty equation, what if it
- 8:14Speaker 2: is junk.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Well, you're not gonna know until you try it. It's
- 8:16Speaker 3: not going to hurt your phone to put a screen
- 8:18Speaker 3: protector on it. You just will know if it doesn't work,
- 8:20Speaker 3: if your screen still cracks.
- 8:22Speaker 2: That came and then soon the memory cards that I
- 8:25Speaker 2: ordered will come. And one of our colleagues pointed out
- 8:28Speaker 2: something interesting to me yesterday. Isn't it funny how you
- 8:31Speaker 2: buy certain things off of a site like TikTok, and
- 8:34Speaker 2: the font and the packaging looks just like the one
- 8:37Speaker 2: you would go get it say best Buy or some
- 8:39Speaker 2: other shop target dupes.
- 8:40Speaker 4: They're dupes, and they try to show you exactly what
- 8:43Speaker 4: they're duping.
- 8:44Speaker 3: If this looks like this name brand, because our font
- 8:48Speaker 3: looks just like that name brand's font.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Well this dupe better do its job, because I might
- 8:54Speaker 2: be a little unhappy about it. But then again, I
- 8:56Speaker 2: guess it didn't cost an arm and a leg, but
- 8:59Speaker 2: I would hate to be screwed over by it. So
- 9:01Speaker 2: I'll apply this to the phone. I'll get the memory
- 9:04Speaker 2: cards later today because they're good about letting you know that,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and then i'll report back how everything works. Or if
- 9:09Speaker 2: I throw toys around the playpen, it'll be because I'm
- 9:11Speaker 2: poopy pants that it didn't work. But you know, you
- 9:14Speaker 2: get what you pay for, right.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's addictive. Just be careful.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Oh lord, it's ninety seven point one WASHFM. The news
- 9:20Speaker 2: is on the way, Top stories at the top of
- 9:21Speaker 2: the hour, Chilly, what's going on?
- 9:23Speaker 3: A new survey reveals what Americans think is the sexiest
- 9:28Speaker 3: accent in the US.
- 9:30Speaker 4: And I've got the answer to that in just a few.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Later on today five o'clock. It's your best of the
- 9:37Speaker 2: eighties and nineties.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Weekend make sure you're listening, because you know, we love
- 9:41Speaker 3: to play the soundtrack in your life.
- 9:44Speaker 2: All the memory, so many of the ninety seven point one.
- 9:47Speaker 1: WASHEFM ninety seven point one WASHFM, Washington, an iHeartRadio station,
- 9:54Speaker 1: coming up on Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
- 9:57Speaker 3: The Kennedy Centers board has voted to or the President's
- 10:01Speaker 3: name on the building. We've got the latest on that
- 10:04Speaker 3: story and others on the way with Toby and Chilly
- 10:08Speaker 3: in the morning, ninety seven point one wash FM.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Luigi Mangione is expected to plead guilty today to federal
- 10:21Speaker 3: stocking charges that are tied to the twenty twenty four
- 10:23Speaker 3: killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Legal experts say
- 10:28Speaker 3: a federal plea deal could complicate or even block the
- 10:31Speaker 3: state case under double jeopardy protections, and now he faces
- 10:35Speaker 3: life in prison in either case. The Kennedy Center's board
- 10:39Speaker 3: voted to add the President's name to the building facade,
- 10:43Speaker 3: and it would read restored and renovated by President Donald J.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Trump.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Now, most of the venue is going to be closed
- 10:50Speaker 3: for two years of renovations, in a move that could
- 10:53Speaker 3: really defy the court order that had blocked adding his name.
- 10:58Speaker 3: US Park police are investigating after vandals hit the World
- 11:01Speaker 3: War Two memorial on the National Mall yesterday. There was
- 11:05Speaker 3: pink graffiti that read clean hands, dirty money, and bubbles
- 11:10Speaker 3: that were found in the fountain. The Interior Department vows
- 11:13Speaker 3: to find those who are responsible. A sixty one year
- 11:16Speaker 3: old teacher's been charged with assault after allegedly pulling a
- 11:20Speaker 3: three year old boy's hair and pushing his head into
- 11:23Speaker 3: a basket and shoving him to the ground. This happened
- 11:25Speaker 3: at a rest in daycare. Bright Horizon says that Jasper
- 11:30Speaker 3: Barrage has been fired, and a new survey finds Americans
- 11:34Speaker 3: ranked the Southern accent as the most attractive one nationwide,
- 11:39Speaker 3: with Louisiana topping the list of individual state accents, followed
- 11:44Speaker 3: by Texas and California. Forecast today cloudy with the chance
- 11:48Speaker 3: of scattered storms later on highs around eighty five. Right
- 11:51Speaker 3: now seventy six in Gaithersburg.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. You've got
- 11:56Speaker 2: the news. Now stay right there, because here at ninety
- 11:58Speaker 2: seven point one WATCHFM with Toby and Chilly in the morning.
- 12:01Speaker 2: We know back to school time can be a thing
- 12:06Speaker 2: and the demands on you can just be overwhelming for
- 12:10Speaker 2: a few weeks as you prepare to shift back into
- 12:12Speaker 2: that routine. Well, there are some things that teachers would
- 12:15Speaker 2: like for you to know during this time. What is
- 12:17Speaker 2: it they want us to know? Well, we'll run that down.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I personally always believe that teachers should get paid with
- 12:23Speaker 2: doctors and lawyers get paid. Do you know why, because
- 12:26Speaker 2: oftentimes they're called to do more than just teach. At times,
- 12:30Speaker 2: they have to raise the kid, be the therapist for
- 12:33Speaker 2: the kid, be a psychologist for the kid, and then
- 12:35Speaker 2: they have to sometimes do that for the parents. It's
- 12:37Speaker 2: ninety seven point one. Watch FM Toby and Chilly in
- 12:40Speaker 2: the morning. Here's something that teachers would like for parents
- 12:42Speaker 2: to know as we get into this new school year.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and I have a school age son, so he's
- 12:47Speaker 3: about to enter middle school. He's twelve years old, and
- 12:50Speaker 3: he is a neurodivergent, so he's on the autism spectrum
- 12:54Speaker 3: and has ADHD. And I will tell you, Toby that
- 12:56Speaker 3: the teachers that we've had so far have been amazing.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I think part of the reason is number one on
- 13:01Speaker 3: this list is that they want you to know that
- 13:03Speaker 3: you're all on the same team.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Okay, they want what's best for your kid too.
- 13:07Speaker 3: For the most part, I know some of you are
- 13:09Speaker 3: rolling your eyes saying not every teacher wants that. Well,
- 13:11Speaker 3: most teachers actually do right, So you guys have to
- 13:14Speaker 3: work together and be on the same page in order
- 13:17Speaker 3: for your child to succeed.
- 13:18Speaker 2: They also want you to stay engaged, be positive, speak positively,
- 13:22Speaker 2: mom and dad.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I love the respect teachers boundaries. Okay, just because
- 13:27Speaker 3: a parent fires off an email at night or the
- 13:30Speaker 3: teacher fires off an email at night, doesn't mean we
- 13:32Speaker 3: need to expect that teacher to respond.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Right before the next school day.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Give them a day or two to get to your
- 13:38Speaker 3: email right because they've got a lot of things on
- 13:40Speaker 3: their plate.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah. I like the one that says, and I chuckle
- 13:43Speaker 2: at it sugar and sleep, because well, sugar is not
- 13:47Speaker 2: necessarily a good thing for a kid to be jacked
- 13:50Speaker 2: up on when he goes to school or she and sleep. Yes,
- 13:53Speaker 2: they need it. And here's the other thing too, parents,
- 13:56Speaker 2: These teachers are here to do a job, and by
- 13:59Speaker 2: the way, they have to do the job not just
- 14:01Speaker 2: for you and for your kid. But you have to
- 14:04Speaker 2: multiply that times thirty. So walk a mile in their
- 14:07Speaker 2: shoes before you pop off or before you start getting
- 14:09Speaker 2: really needy, and.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Help them out. Man, they volunteers all the time. Raise
- 14:13Speaker 3: your hand and help them out with stuff for the
- 14:15Speaker 3: classroom and or any of the events and activities that
- 14:18Speaker 3: they're doing. And I promise you it'll make the whole
- 14:20Speaker 3: experience better for everybody involved.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That's right. And Chili's going to be running for the
- 14:24Speaker 2: PTA presidency.
- 14:25Speaker 3: No, no, no, not get it twisted. I'm a very
- 14:28Speaker 3: active PTA member, but I ain't running anything.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Okay, never mind, forget about that. Though the Chili and
- 14:33Speaker 2: Mark candidacy will not happen. I want to read the list.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Gotch covered Toby a Chili page washf them dot com
- 14:38Speaker 2: say right there, Next is Toby and Chilli in the
- 14:41Speaker 2: Morning continues.
- 14:41Speaker 3: See shocking number of people who say they have shoplifted.
- 14:45Speaker 2: What there's thieves and they're everywhere these days. Check out
- 14:50Speaker 2: this stat ninety seven point one WASHFM Toby at Chili
- 14:53Speaker 2: in the Morning. Thirty percent of Americans say that they've shoplifted,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and that numbers up big time from twenty three percent
- 15:01Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Wow.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Leading the way as shoplifters, gen Z and millennials.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Well, economic conditions remain the leading factor that was cited
- 15:13Speaker 3: by people who admitted to shoplifting. Ninety percent said it
- 15:17Speaker 3: was the inflation. Of course, the broader economy. It's a
- 15:20Speaker 3: contributing factor. We all know how expensive things are everything.
- 15:24Speaker 3: It's hard to make ends meet, and so then it
- 15:26Speaker 3: makes sense that the most commonly reported items that are
- 15:30Speaker 3: stolen food non alcoholic drinks, and then that's followed by clothing.
- 15:35Speaker 4: You know, people are just trying to feed themselves, and
- 15:38Speaker 4: it's a little bit tough.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I don't know that I'm willing to throw a flag
- 15:42Speaker 2: at the people who are just trying to keep their
- 15:44Speaker 2: families fed. I'm not condoning it. I'm not saying you
- 15:47Speaker 2: should go out and start robbing aldy. But there's a
- 15:50Speaker 2: difference between stealing from say a store at Tysons and
- 15:54Speaker 2: a groceries.
- 15:55Speaker 3: You mean like Louis Vaton bags, Well, yes, exactly, versus
- 15:59Speaker 3: some pro lot.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So people are trying to steal the Louis vatans up
- 16:03Speaker 2: because you know, there's nothing good that can come from
- 16:05Speaker 2: what they're trying to do by stealing.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Yeah, they're trying to store.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I mean discretion of the law is a powerful weapon.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I know, it's really really tough.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Now we're looking at like personally, you and I. When
- 16:17Speaker 3: I was a kid, I and I think a lot
- 16:19Speaker 3: of little kids, you indvitinently like grab something and you
- 16:22Speaker 3: don't know until you get home.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Your mom's like, what where did that come from? How'd
- 16:26Speaker 4: you stick that candy bar in your pocket?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:29Speaker 2: No, I got I got busted at one of those

- 23:00Speaker 2: if you haven't heard, an adaptive ice hockey team skating
- 23:04Speaker 2: on the very ice the Capital's practice on in Arlington.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And that's when a coach from another team floated this

- 23:14Speaker 2: squad for the very first ever Para Hockey World Cup
- 23:20Speaker 2: and would Aiden be interested.
- 23:22Speaker 6: Well.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Aiden had never really played, but he had watched his

- 23:27Speaker 3: tried it out two weekends on the pitch and it
- 23:30Speaker 3: all clicked, which then led to a training camp in

- 23:36Speaker 3: on the US roster, and then at a camp in
- 23:39Speaker 3: Saint Louis, the team came up short a goalie. Aiden
- 23:43Speaker 3: decided to raise his hand and now that is his
- 23:45Speaker 3: position as a goalie. He reads the play, blocks it deflects,
- 23:49Speaker 3: it keeps that ball out.
- 23:51Speaker 2: His mom says, he is endlessly adaptable, thrilled to be

- 24:03Speaker 2: Para Hockey World Cup. He'll be taking on squads from Pakistan,

- 24:20Speaker 3: with the goalie pads.
- 24:21Speaker 4: It's all coming to a head now.
- 24:23Speaker 2: And for his family, it's about something bigger. Proof that
- 24:26Speaker 2: kids with disabilities and I put disabilities in air quotes,
- 24:30Speaker 2: they do belong on the world stage. What a great story, Aidan.
