Transcript
- 1:05Ray Comfort: You know Dennis Prager is a very nice guy.
- 1:07Ray Comfort: I've been on his radio program a number of times.
- 1:10Ray Comfort: It was called Religion on the Line back in the early 1990s, dennis Prager.
- 1:15Ray Comfort: Dennis Prager and a lot of Christians listen to what he says.
- 1:18Ray Comfort: He's not a Christian, he's Jewish.
- 1:19Ray Comfort: He doesn't quote Jesus when he talks about blasphemy.
- 1:23Ray Comfort: He doesn't quote Jesus when he talks about adultery.
- 1:25Ray Comfort: He speaks of adultery and Christians take notice because he's so eloquent and such a nice guy.
- 1:30Ray Comfort: He says adultery is wrong because it's detrimental to society.
- 1:36Ray Comfort: That's not why it's wrong.
- 1:38Ray Comfort: It's wrong because it's wrong in God's eyes.
- 1:40Ray Comfort: It's to sin against God.
- 1:41Ray Comfort: David didn't say have mercy upon me, oh God, because I've done something that's detrimental to society.
- 1:47Ray Comfort: He says I've sinned against you and Nathan when he said you've sinned against God.
- 1:52Ray Comfort: So, and it's the same with blasphemy.
- 1:54Ray Comfort: He says the greatest sin is to live in hypocrisy and it won't be forgiven.
- 1:59Ray Comfort: And that's what the Third Commandment addresses you should not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
- 2:04Ray Comfort: That doesn't mean to use God's name as a curse word.
- 2:06Ray Comfort: And he does it and he makes light of it and he tells Christians it's not blasphemy to say hit your thumb with a hammer and say the name of Jesus or God or whatever, and Christians take notice of what he says.
- 2:17Ray Comfort: And he says that sin of living in hypocrisy will not be forgiven.
- 2:21Ray Comfort: It says it in the Third Commandment the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
- 2:25Ray Comfort: Jesus forgave blasphemers.
- 2:28Ray Comfort: Lord was a blasphemer.
- 2:30Ray Comfort: He was forgiven and we're forgiven in Christ.
- 2:32Ray Comfort: But Dennis Prager doesn't mention that.
- 2:34Ray Comfort: But he's.
- 2:35Ray Comfort: He had a lot of people quoting Christians, quoting Dennis Prager and saying Ray, you've got it wrong using God's name, and vain is not using this curse word, it's living a life of hypocrisy and discrediting God's name.
- 2:45Ray Comfort: And they've got that, it seems, from Dennis Prager.
- 2:53Emeal Zwayne: This is Living Waters Breaking News.
- 2:56Emeal Zwayne: A strange sight was widely reported by multiple citizens of the European Union.
- 3:00Emeal Zwayne: Eyewitnesses claim that a little mustached Kiwi man with chocolate smudges all over his face was found stuffed in the overhead luggage compartment of a railway train.
- 3:08Emeal Zwayne: However, upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the exhausted little fellow who allegedly kept yelling yep right, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, right when apprehended, had actually stuffed himself in the overhead luggage compartment and was enjoying a much needed snooze-a-roo.
- 3:24Emeal Zwayne: After being admitted as a permanent resident of the renowned Cuckoo Kiwi Club psychiatric ward, the down under bloke allegedly exclaimed I miss sleeping in the hole in my bed and this was the next best thing I could find, You're crazy, I'm so crazy.
- 3:40Emeal Zwayne: See this would be ridiculous if it wasn't true.
- 3:45Emeal Zwayne: But, ray, tell the people what you did.
- 3:48Ray Comfort: Tell the people, tell the people, tell the overhead whatever you call it for luggage and slept because it was perfect.
- 3:55Ray Comfort: It was made for comfort.
- 3:56Ray Comfort: You couldn't do that on the seating and the train We'd be like.
- 3:58Ray Comfort: Why don't we go on 10 trains?
- 4:00Emeal Zwayne: I would say 90% of people physically can't do that on the planet.
- 4:04Ray Comfort: Well, I could, so I did.
- 4:07Emeal Zwayne: Train.
- 4:07Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, you weren't with us in the train.
- 4:10Emeal Zwayne: The luggage he slept up top.
- 4:13Mark Spence: You have to be under five feet and weigh less than 75 pounds.
- 4:16Mark Spence: So there's no problem, and Ray needed a ladder.
- 4:20Emeal Zwayne: Well, we have a picture of it for proof too.
- 4:22Emeal Zwayne: Someone took a picture.
- 4:23Emeal Zwayne: Look at it.
- 4:24Emeal Zwayne: It's right here.
- 4:25Oscar Navarro: Scotty.
- 4:25Emeal Zwayne: Carol probably has that picture somewhere.
- 4:27Emeal Zwayne: I remember that.
- 4:28Emeal Zwayne: You need to get that to us and he did it, and he slept on a train.
- 4:31Ray Comfort: Look, the Japanese do that sort of thing all the time in planes and trains and they just stuff them in.
- 4:37Emeal Zwayne: Don't the Japanese have these little micro like they're like?
- 4:40Ray Comfort: adult compartments.
- 4:41Ray Comfort: It's because they're little people and they can do that.
- 4:44Emeal Zwayne: They just sleep in there.
- 4:45Ray Comfort: They got them wise.
- 4:46Ray Comfort: So I led the way for the Japanese Wise, or wide Wise.
- 4:50Ray Comfort: I led the way for the Japanese.
- 4:52Emeal Zwayne: They saw it.
- 4:52Emeal Zwayne: They saw it.
- 4:53Emeal Zwayne: It was you that did it.
- 4:54Ray Comfort: Yes.
- 4:56Emeal Zwayne: Now, Ray, why did you have chocolate smudges on your face in the article?
- 4:57Ray Comfort: Because we ate chocolate everywhere we went, because every we had all these people that love our ministry meet us in Europe and they.
- 5:04Ray Comfort: I don't know why they brought us chocolate, but they did.
- 5:06Ray Comfort: Maybe we asked for it Seriously.
- 5:07Emeal Zwayne: That ain't something a bad thing, Mark.
- 5:09Emeal Zwayne: We were kind of on like chocolate overdose at some time and loving it.
- 5:14Mark Spence: I absolutely love to raise point because America is terrible at making chocolate, oh, absolutely.

- 5:23Emeal Zwayne: It's funny you say that, though, mark, because yesterday I was eating a Kit Kat and I thought we made good chocolate.
- 5:28Emeal Zwayne: What oh?
- 5:30Mark Spence: no, it tastes like a plastic.
- 5:32Emeal Zwayne: You know like.
- 5:32Mark Spence: Japan has like 150 different flavors of Kit Kat Stop.
- 5:36Ray Comfort: I can't believe that Kat Lovers haven't complained about that.
- 5:38Ray Comfort: The what, kat Lovers?
- 5:40Ray Comfort: I'm eating a.
- 5:41Emeal Zwayne: Kit Kat.
- 5:43Oscar Navarro: I got to go to a chocolate factory in Switzerland.
- 5:45Mark Spence: It was made of Wanka.
- 5:47Oscar Navarro: So good.
- 5:47Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, mr Wanka, do they have potato flavored?
- 5:50Emeal Zwayne: Kit Kats?

- 7:27Oscar Navarro: I bring it in a bag.
- 7:28Oscar Navarro: Is it ticking?
- 7:29Mark Spence: It's not, it's because we're talking about food.
- 7:31Mark Spence: It deals with food.
- 7:32Mark Spence: Okay, why have we not been best friends since kindergarten?

- 9:26Oscar Navarro: Put it together and it's Fig Jam.
- 9:29Emeal Zwayne: Fig Jam.
- 9:29Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know what's really good Teen, teen, teen is how you say, fig in Arabic.
- 9:36Oscar Navarro: Here I'll give you a hack Take sourdough bread, toast it, throw a cottage cheese on it and then your fig jam.
- 9:44Oscar Navarro: Okay.
- 9:44Mark Spence: I'm not going to lie, that actually sounds pretty good.
- 9:46Mark Spence: It's amazing.
- 9:47Emeal Zwayne: That is nice.
- 9:48Emeal Zwayne: Why do you guys eat weird things?
- 9:49Emeal Zwayne: I?
- 9:49Mark Spence: don't eat anything.
- 9:50Mark Spence: It says the guy who eats the weirdest things in the world Raw liver Arabs eat it.
- 9:55Ray Comfort: Changing the subject one of our chickens identified as a rooster.
- 10:01Emeal Zwayne: It's happening everywhere.
- 10:02Emeal Zwayne: It happens on a.
- 10:03Ray Comfort: Saturday morning I thought he's got a sore throat.
- 10:04Ray Comfort: Oh, she's got a sore throat, but it was proper.
- 10:07Ray Comfort: Cockadoodle-doo Roosters are illegal in bellflower, which meant we had to get out the chopping block.
- 10:12Ray Comfort: I'm not kidding, Wait, stop it.
- 10:14Ray Comfort: And then, when we checked the internet, we thought yeah, that's a rooster.
- 10:17Ray Comfort: What do you mean?
- 10:17Ray Comfort: A chopping block?
- 10:18Ray Comfort: You killed the chicken.
- 10:19Ray Comfort: No, you have to kill chickens if you can't get rid of them.
- 10:21Ray Comfort: And I couldn't get rid of these roosters.
- 10:23Ray Comfort: Nobody wants a rooster.
- 10:24Ray Comfort: It's not a rooster.
- 10:26Emeal Zwayne: It's a chicken with a sore throat.
- 10:27Ray Comfort: No, it's a rooster.
- 10:28Ray Comfort: We looked up all the signs and they've got flamboyant clothing.
- 10:31Ray Comfort: They've got these long feathers.
- 10:33Emeal Zwayne: Oh wait, you mean, you bought a chicken?
- 10:35Emeal Zwayne: It turned out to be a chicken.
- 10:36Emeal Zwayne: No, no, I didn't buy it.
- 10:37Ray Comfort: Diane and Jeff gave us five chickens and said hope, none of them are roosters.
- 10:40Ray Comfort: Three of the five were roosters.
- 10:42Ray Comfort: No way Three of them.
- 10:44Ray Comfort: And I thought because I said can ham, I'd love to donate roosters to your zoo.
- 10:48Ray Comfort: He said we'll go to a big lizard and they'll eat them.
- 10:50Ray Comfort: They sent a picture of the big lizard and I checked around and nobody wants a rooster because the silly things don't know when to stop growing.
- 10:57Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, so wait, you had three roosters.
- 10:58Ray Comfort: Three roosters What'd you do with them?
- 11:00Ray Comfort: I thought I had to kill them.
- 11:01Ray Comfort: I did think Did you kill them?
- 11:03Ray Comfort: No, hang on, I haven't finished the story.
- 11:04Ray Comfort: I did feel tempted because of the president of NOAA opening the window of his ark and letting birds out, of just driving the freeway with my windows down, and if the chickens or roosters got out wouldn't be my fault.
- 11:15Ray Comfort: Then I thought it could cause problems on the freeway and it wouldn't be good for the ministry if I was dragged through court.
- 11:20Ray Comfort: So we did a search and found this lady in an adjacent city who saves condemned roosters.
- 11:28Ray Comfort: She's got 200 of them, condemned roosters.
- 11:30Ray Comfort: Stop it, I'm not kidding.
- 11:32Ray Comfort: Her name was Deb.
- 11:32Ray Comfort: She was foul-mouthed when I talked to her on the phone not play on words and she said and I was talking to her, she was, as I said, foul-mouthed.
- 11:41Ray Comfort: And I said we're going to YouTube channel.
- 11:42Ray Comfort: You like YouTube?
- 11:43Ray Comfort: She's yeah.
- 11:43Ray Comfort: So she watched Crazy Bible and I got a commentary on the whole movie via text while she was watching it.
- 11:50Ray Comfort: She got your rooster.
- 11:51Ray Comfort: No, she hadn't got him yet.
- 11:51Ray Comfort: I haven't even made an appointment with her.
- 11:53Ray Comfort: So she watched Crazy Bible and kept texting me how, what was going on in it and we made an appointment.
- 11:58Ray Comfort: Went there yesterday, sue and I, with our three chickens and a box in the car, and it turned out her assistant watches our YouTube channel and she's got an evidence by.
- 12:07Emeal Zwayne: No way, no way.
- 12:09Ray Comfort: And so I got to witness to her on camera, with all chickens or roosters in the background crawling through the whole thing.
- 12:15Emeal Zwayne: Are we going to have to bleep 90% of the interview?
- 12:17Ray Comfort: No, no, it's fine.
- 12:18Ray Comfort: She didn't cuss at all and ended up praying with her and gave her an evidence Bible and all ended up happy.
- 12:23Ray Comfort: That's amazing, but the whole Her sanctuary really is like the kingdom of God.
- 12:28Emeal Zwayne: We have neighbors.
- 12:29Ray Comfort: What's that?
- 12:29Ray Comfort: I haven't finished the analogy.
- 12:31Ray Comfort: Oh, go ahead.
- 12:31Ray Comfort: Her rooster sanctuary is like the kingdom of God.
- 12:35Ray Comfort: We were proud roosters crowing our own righteousness, condemned to the chopping block that the Lord took us under the shadow of his wings.
- 12:45Emeal Zwayne: Amen, wait, but does she have neighbors?
- 12:48Ray Comfort: Yeah Well, it's in an area that's.
- 12:51Emeal Zwayne: It's like 200 roosters every morning it's in an area.
- 12:53Ray Comfort: I mean, she doesn't have a lamb clock either.
- 12:55Oscar Navarro: She has 200 of them.
- 12:57Ray Comfort: Yeah, 200 lamb clocks.
- 12:58Ray Comfort: Why did she can cross the road To get to the other side.
- 13:01Ray Comfort: I just made that up Because, anyway, I was able, in the witnessing session, to talk about one.
- 13:09Ray Comfort: Rooster was honored in scripture where it had the job of awakening Peter to his father.
- 13:14Ray Comfort: So roosters are good because they like our conscience when they speak to us.
- 13:18Ray Comfort: We should listen to them and wake up and awaken to righteousness.
- 13:21Ray Comfort: So you abandoned your roosters Ray.
- 13:23Emeal Zwayne: Oh yeah, well it was either the chopping block.
- 13:25Ray Comfort: We were happy to give them away because I thought one of you guys would have to kill them.
- 13:29Emeal Zwayne: Did you take them?
- 13:30Ray Comfort: Did you take them to her In a box?
- 13:31Ray Comfort: Wow, did they taste like chicken?
- 13:33Ray Comfort: Yeah, they were really pretty bird.
- 13:36Ray Comfort: Seriously, they're nicer looking than the average chicken, but they were still yet small, right?
- 13:41Ray Comfort: No, no, five months, which is like 19, 20 weeks.
- 13:43Ray Comfort: They should have crowed earlier than what they did.
- 13:45Ray Comfort: They didn't recognize them as roosters before this.
- 13:47Ray Comfort: They can't until they grow up.
- 13:49Ray Comfort: That's why Jeff and Diane said we hope they're not roosters, but three of them out of five Right Roosters.
- 13:55Emeal Zwayne: Cock-a-doodle-doo.
- 13:56Emeal Zwayne: All right friends.
- 13:57Emeal Zwayne: Here's a comment from EJJDHDJWKSJFI ABCDELG.
- 14:01Emeal Zwayne: I love this Creative parents.
- 14:07Emeal Zwayne: I love this, but have one question how do you spell his name?
- 14:11Emeal Zwayne: Ez, yz, yz, yz, yze, l-o-l.
- 14:17Emeal Zwayne: It would be great if you could tell us how to spell it.
- 14:20Emeal Zwayne: Also, my name's Ethan.
- 14:21Emeal Zwayne: This podcast is awesome.
- 14:23Emeal Zwayne: It Spell L-O-L?
- 14:26Emeal Zwayne: Ez.
- 14:27Emeal Zwayne: Don't forget the dots, because then it becomes as, which is what my substitute teacher called me as Junior Hein.
- 14:42Emeal Zwayne: I hated it, yeah.
- 14:45Emeal Zwayne: As Bob, as Don't tell us what you hate?
- 14:48Oscar Navarro: EZ.
- 14:48Oscar Navarro: Oh, you're right, I shouldn't Speaking of our listeners, making us amazing jam and leaving comments.
- 14:55Oscar Navarro: I was talking to somebody the other day, a faithful Christian working for a secular company that makes calendars, and they got fired recently for taking a day off.
- 15:07Ray Comfort: You held it to the podcast, Well you just did that pre-podcast, Good boy.
- 15:10Ray Comfort: Oscar Taking a day off that was good.
- 15:13Emeal Zwayne: These are good ones.
- 15:13Emeal Zwayne: Oscar.
- 15:14Emeal Zwayne: I'm going to source for these dad jokes.
- 15:17Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends.
- 15:18Emeal Zwayne: You said dad jokes, dad jokes.
- 15:20Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends, this podcast is brought to you by.
- 15:25Emeal Zwayne: Let them Hear Moses.
- 15:27Emeal Zwayne: Do you guys like that new voice?
- 15:29Emeal Zwayne: It's very good.
- 15:29Emeal Zwayne: Let them hear Moses looking to Moses to point people to Jesus.
- 15:36Ray Comfort: This is going to be.
- 15:37Ray Comfort: It sounds like one of the TBNs To Jesus.
- 15:41Emeal Zwayne: Ray Cumberland is here with us today.
- 15:43Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, this is going to be fitting today, friends, especially because of the topic we're dealing with, which you'll hear about in a moment.
- 15:50Emeal Zwayne: Don't forget the Living Waters mug and the evidence study Bible, all at LivingWaterscom.
- 15:55Emeal Zwayne: All right.
- 15:57Emeal Zwayne: What does it really mean to take God's name in vain?
- 16:02Emeal Zwayne: I'm glad we're dealing with this, guys, because let me just say this at the outset I have been perplexed and somewhat shocked and deeply grieved by how often I've heard professing Christians and I do have to say, some legitimate Christians use God's name in vain.
- 16:24Emeal Zwayne: No-transcript.
- 16:26Emeal Zwayne: It happened recently and in fact it was the name of Jesus and this was.
- 16:31Emeal Zwayne: This was not like a person who's disconnected from the church, like this person knows and loves the Lord.
- 16:35Emeal Zwayne: Why did Mark do it?
- 16:37Emeal Zwayne: That's why we're having this podcast today, for a true how do you?
- 16:42Oscar Navarro: just because you're bringing it up.
- 16:43Oscar Navarro: What do you do in that situation?
- 16:45Oscar Navarro: Did you?
- 16:45Oscar Navarro: How did you?
- 16:48Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and how you responded.
- 16:49Emeal Zwayne: Well, but this was a context where it I couldn't say anything at that moment.
- 16:53Emeal Zwayne: But it has happened.
- 16:54Emeal Zwayne: I mean rain, I there was one time we were out to lunch with someone again, a notable respect of Christian person who's in leadership and and they kept blaspheming the Lord's name and we talked to them, you know, and I'm trying to figure out what that dynamic is.
- 17:09Emeal Zwayne: What's behind that Is it?
- 17:11Emeal Zwayne: Is it just they don't know, they don't realize.
- 17:13Emeal Zwayne: I'm saying these people love the Lord, they're serving the Lord, they're preaching the gospel, they're living, they know Christ, they're born again, but uh, but, but it happens.
- 17:21Emeal Zwayne: Um, we'll, we'll visit that a little more as the program progresses.
- 17:26Emeal Zwayne: But, ray, that blasphemy is serious and it's abundant.
- 17:30Emeal Zwayne: You often talk about how Not Not many other names are used in blasphemy.
- 17:37Ray Comfort: Not many, I can't think of any.
- 17:38Ray Comfort: You know, uh, uh, the name of Jesus is used in blasphemy, the name of Jesus Christ.
- 17:44Ray Comfort: When you want it to even stronger, and if you want it to be even stronger, you throw a cuss word in between Jesus and Christ.
- 17:50Ray Comfort: No, and it's just horrific.
- 17:52Ray Comfort: And they don't even think.
- 17:53Ray Comfort: Why are you doing that?
- 17:55Ray Comfort: No, why don't?
- 17:56Ray Comfort: Why don't you take the name of an evil person and use it as a cuss word, but you take the name that's been given above all names.
- 18:01Ray Comfort: The Bible says God has honored Jesus with a name above all names, and you take it and use it in place of a cuss word.
- 18:08Ray Comfort: You know, dennis Prager is a very nice guy.
- 18:11Ray Comfort: I've been on his radio program a number of times.
- 18:14Ray Comfort: It was called religion on the line back in the early 1990s.
- 18:18Ray Comfort: Dennis Prager, dennis Prager, yeah, and a lot of Christians Listen to what he says.
- 18:22Ray Comfort: He's not a Christian, he's Jewish.
- 18:23Ray Comfort: He doesn't quote Jesus when he talks about blasphemy.
- 18:27Ray Comfort: He doesn't quote Jesus when he talks about adultery.
- 18:29Ray Comfort: He speaks of adultery and and Christians take notice because he's so eloquent and such a nice guy Um, he says adultery is wrong because it's detrimental to society.
- 18:40Ray Comfort: That's not why it's wrong.
- 18:42Ray Comfort: It's wrong because it's wrong in God's eyes.
- 18:44Ray Comfort: It's to sin against God.
- 18:45Ray Comfort: David didn't say I have mercy upon me, oh God, because I've done something as detrimental to society.
- 18:51Ray Comfort: He says I've sinned against you.
- 18:53Ray Comfort: And Nathan, when he said you've sinned, you've sinned against God.
- 18:56Ray Comfort: So, and it's the same with blasphemy.
- 18:58Ray Comfort: He says the greatest sin is To live in hypocrisy and it won't be forgiven.
- 19:03Ray Comfort: And that's what the third commandment addresses you should not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
- 19:08Ray Comfort: That doesn't mean to use God's name as a curse word.
- 19:10Ray Comfort: And he does it and he makes light of it.
- 19:13Ray Comfort: Yeah, and he tells Christians it's not blasphemy to say hit your thumb with a hammer and say the name of Jesus or God or whatever.
- 19:19Ray Comfort: And Christians take notice of what he says.
- 19:21Ray Comfort: And he says that sin, living in apocrisy, will not be forgiven.
- 19:25Ray Comfort: It says it in the third commandment.
- 19:26Ray Comfort: The law will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
- 19:29Ray Comfort: Jesus forgave blasphemous.
- 19:32Ray Comfort: Paul was a blasphemer, he was forgiven and we're forgiven in Christ.
- 19:36Ray Comfort: But Dennis Prager doesn't mention that, but he's.
- 19:39Ray Comfort: He had a lot of people quoting Christians, quoting Dennis Prager and saying Ray, you've got it wrong.
- 19:44Ray Comfort: Using God's name and vain is not using this curse word.
- 19:46Ray Comfort: It's living a life of apocrisy and discrediting God's name.
- 19:49Ray Comfort: And they've got that, it seems, from Dennis Prager.
- 19:51Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and I want to explore that together and look at all facets of of that.
- 19:56Emeal Zwayne: But Dennis Prager isn't he the one that that was saying pornography Isn't isn't wrong, Was it?
- 20:02Mark Spence: him.
- 20:03Mark Spence: Mark it was.
- 20:03Mark Spence: Yeah, he was being interviewed by somebody and I think he was a Catholic guy that was talking to him.
- 20:09Mark Spence: Pines of Aquinas, I think, was the guy that was talking to him.
- 20:12Mark Spence: Tony's Aquinas Podcast.
- 20:14Mark Spence: I could be off on who he was actually talking to, but he but he did say that and the guy stood firm and just said you are way off.
- 20:21Mark Spence: Oh good terribly.
- 20:22Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that's really bizarre.
- 20:24Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know.
- 20:25Emeal Zwayne: On that note, guys, I want to get your thoughts on this.
- 20:27Emeal Zwayne: Do you guys sense like there's this emerging trend where Christians are just like Almost fully accepting as though they were Christians in terms of the way they quote them and follow them, those that are friendly toward Christianity, though they're not believers like like Dennis Prager, like maybe.
- 20:46Ray Comfort: Jordan.
- 20:47Emeal Zwayne: Peterson, yeah, jordan Peterson.
- 20:49Emeal Zwayne: Uh, his name is capes.
- 20:50Oscar Navarro: All right, our other Jewish friend with the where they are, guys, I don't know where, guys with Ben Shapiro, of course.
- 20:57Emeal Zwayne: Do you guys see that happening?
- 20:58Emeal Zwayne: Yes, yeah, it's because they're eloquent.
- 21:01Mark Spence: It's disturbing.
- 21:02Mark Spence: I mean, patriotism and nationalism has Replaced Christianity in the Bible and we're listening to commentary that is Unscriptural because we're fed up with what's happening inside of our country.
- 21:12Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah, and again, obviously there's nothing wrong with listening to new sources and you know and and appreciating things you can Glean, but it's drifted into almost like oh, they know, god, right, you know like, oh they're, they must be and each of those guys is really likable very.
- 21:26Oscar Navarro: Yeah, I like the way mark just said it, though I think that it's really and I know this isn't exactly the topic of the podcast.
- 21:32Oscar Navarro: But just to reiterate what he just said, I think oftentimes we don't understand, we cannot distinguish the difference Between our patriotism, our nationalism, our positions on politics.
- 21:44Oscar Navarro: We don't know the difference between that, in our faith, right, and certainly they overlap to a degree.
- 21:50Oscar Navarro: But if you can't distinguish the difference, that's a problem, and I think a lot of people who quote those guys, who fervently follow those guys, often fall into that category.
- 21:58Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and and friends, I just want to encourage you to be careful again.
- 22:00Emeal Zwayne: Understand me clearly.
- 22:02Emeal Zwayne: I'm not saying there's anything wrong with listening those guys.
- 22:04Emeal Zwayne: They have a lot of positive stuff to contribute.
- 22:06Emeal Zwayne: But be careful that that you don't take what they say like scripture.
- 22:11Oscar Navarro: You will set positive things.
- 22:12Oscar Navarro: Oprah yeah.
- 22:15Ray Comfort: At some one blesses the man who walks, not in the council of the ungodly yeah, amen, yeah amen, especially when it comes to something like that.
- 22:22Mark Spence: So all right, friends, so exodus sorry good.
- 22:24Emeal Zwayne: Exodus 20, verse 7.
- 22:26Emeal Zwayne: You shall not take the name of the lord, your god, in vain, for the lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name In vain.
- 22:35Emeal Zwayne: And so what I wanted to do, I'll let you chime in, oscar, but you know, unless you were going in that direction.
- 22:41Emeal Zwayne: But you could say what you're gonna say and we can go into this.
- 22:42Emeal Zwayne: But I want to talk about first of all, the name of god.
- 22:46Emeal Zwayne: What does that mean?
- 22:47Emeal Zwayne: What does that represent?
- 22:48Emeal Zwayne: What are we talking about?
- 22:49Emeal Zwayne: Okay, the name of god.
- 22:50Emeal Zwayne: What's a big deal?
- 22:51Emeal Zwayne: It's a big deal, and we'll get into that.
- 22:53Oscar Navarro: But, oscar, Let me jump on that real quick.
- 22:55Oscar Navarro: In the sense that gods One.
- 22:59Oscar Navarro: I think we look to the old testament and we look to Jewish tradition to be able to understand the way they viewed god's name.
- 23:05Oscar Navarro: And, uh, there should be something to be said about the fact that they wouldn't even speak god's name in public because of the Great honor that it held.
- 23:14Oscar Navarro: They wouldn't write the fullness of the name of god, they would use initials, and so there was something honoring, glorifying, good About that name.
- 23:24Oscar Navarro: And I think in our day we lose a sense of that.
- 23:27Oscar Navarro: Our first names, you know, get thrown away this, that and the other and we don't really think much of them.
- 23:32Oscar Navarro: Our last names Sometimes hold a kind of honor.
- 23:35Oscar Navarro: Certainly, in antiquity, the last name held great honor of somebody, the last theme, your last name, you would stand up for it.
- 23:43Oscar Navarro: I actually think that we do get a sense of blasphemy, because it's kind of funny.
- 23:46Oscar Navarro: You know people, uh, if you blaspheme the name of their favorite politician, you blaspheme the name of their favorite celebrity.
- 23:55Oscar Navarro: Wouldn't you say blaspheme, even speak, speak ill of speak, ill of right?
- 23:58Oscar Navarro: Uh, they will come to the defense very quickly, right?
- 24:01Oscar Navarro: You cannot Question the name of people that they would honor very well.
- 24:07Oscar Navarro: And yet often, when people blaspheme the name of jesus, using it as a cuss word, they they think it's much to do about nothing.
- 24:15Oscar Navarro: And that's actually one of the points that I wanted to make is that the few times that I've I've heard somebody do that and I and I will remind them Of god's word on this subject often the first response is something to the effect of oh.
- 24:28Oscar Navarro: When I say like I'm not really meaning anything by it.
- 24:31Oscar Navarro: No, and I point them to the reality of what the scripture says to blaspheme, to take the lord's name in vein, vein is empty, fervorless, insincere, pointless.
- 24:45Oscar Navarro: In other words, when you say no, it doesn't mean anything.
- 24:48Oscar Navarro: That's the point exactly.
- 24:51Oscar Navarro: It doesn't mean anything when it comes out of your mouth.
- 24:54Mark Spence: It should mean Something when you speak the lord's name you know, I was looking up the different meticulous writing procedures that scribes would go through Before they would write or copy Different texts and I found this a couple of them to be interesting before writing the name of god, a scribe must reverently Wipe his pen and say I am writing the name of god for the holiness of his name.
- 25:18Mark Spence: And then some scribes, after they would write the name and to your, they would leave out, uh, you know the, the vows.
- 25:24Mark Spence: We don't know exactly right what it would it be, but after they were done writing what they would perceive to be the name of god, they would then go and cleanse themselves and then come back and continue to write.
- 25:35Mark Spence: Wow.
- 25:36Ray Comfort: That was a 40 day cleansing.
- 25:38Mark Spence: Took a long time can be yeah, and and again it's.
- 25:42Emeal Zwayne: It speaks to the fact that god's name is.
- 25:45Emeal Zwayne: I mean seriously, I, I, I have this deep sense of, of just awe right now and a bit of A terror as I, as I talk about the name of god almighty, you think of the things that we're in awe of as human beings.
- 25:59Emeal Zwayne: You know, we peer into what appears to us to be endless space, you know, and we try to wrap our our heads around it.
- 26:05Emeal Zwayne: We talk about the billions of galaxies, the billions of stars in each galaxy, and we just, we're, we're breathless at that.
- 26:13Emeal Zwayne: And you think of the God, who, who spoke all of that, and no existence whom heaven and the heaven of heavens can't contain, who spans the universe with his hand.
- 26:23Emeal Zwayne: And you get guys like Dennis Prager and others, just so ignorant, to say, oh yeah, it doesn't matter, you could do it.
- 26:30Emeal Zwayne: That's not what it are.
- 26:31Emeal Zwayne: You kidding me?
- 26:32Emeal Zwayne: You're trying to tell me that, oh yeah, don't live this way, which of course it involves how you live and we'll get into that but you, you mean to tell me that God doesn't care when you take his holy name, but the then effable, splendid, like majestic God of the universe, and just throw it around like it means nothing in the midst of of profanity.
- 26:54Mark Spence: It's just, it's insanity to me yeah, movies were not like this.
- 26:57Mark Spence: You know, we we back in the in the time.
- 26:59Mark Spence: What is it the?
- 27:00Ray Comfort: the uh hey movie ran out at half time and during the movie and said that blaspheme time changer, time changer blaspheme.
- 27:07Emeal Zwayne: the name of the Lord, stop this.
- 27:08Ray Comfort: Yes, the guy was taken from what the 1930s and brought up, you know, from the 1800s, 1800s, 1700s brought up 1600s, 1300s, 1300s, 1200s sold to the man in the back.
- 27:19Ray Comfort: And he found himself in a movie theater enjoying a story and suddenly the name of God was blaspheme and he ran out of the theater into the lobby screaming they blaspheme the name of God.
- 27:30Ray Comfort: And it was very moving.
- 27:32Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it was like, I mean that's in a movie.
- 27:34Ray Comfort: Yeah, it's called time changer.
- 27:35Ray Comfort: Yeah, it's a Christian movie, it's a Christian movie.
- 27:37Emeal Zwayne: Oh, that makes sense and and really what the point that was being made was.
- 27:41Emeal Zwayne: You know this, this would have been shocking in those days, Like it's kind of like someone just murdered this person.
- 27:48Emeal Zwayne: I mean, that's like the degree that it was at like do something about it, and it's almost in a small degree.
- 27:54Ray Comfort: We get that feeling when someone blasphemes the name of Jesus.
- 27:56Ray Comfort: It's just like a horror beyond words.
- 27:58Ray Comfort: What are you?
- 27:59Emeal Zwayne: doing Right.
- 27:59Emeal Zwayne: And look, god showed the severity of this at level, because 24, 16, and whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death.
- 28:06Emeal Zwayne: All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the strangers as well as him who was born in the land.
- 28:11Emeal Zwayne: When he blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death.
- 28:14Emeal Zwayne: I mean, this was not some light thing.
- 28:18Ray Comfort: And and so Blessed, when he's mentioned 55 times in the New Testament.
- 28:21Ray Comfort: Yeah, so it's.
- 28:23Ray Comfort: It's obviously a big issue.
- 28:25Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, for sure, Mark.
- 28:26Emeal Zwayne: Let's talk about the name of God.
- 28:28Emeal Zwayne: Like when we say the name of God, what does that represent?
- 28:32Mark Spence: I think, dealing with anything with God, the character of God, anything that represents God in any way she performed.
- 28:38Mark Spence: This is what Ligon Duncan said in in essence to what you're asking here.
- 28:42Mark Spence: He said to take up God's name in vain means any frivolous or insincere or thoughtless or unsubstantial use of his name.
- 28:50Mark Spence: It might mean irreverent humor which mocks God in speech or mocks others with his name.
- 28:57Mark Spence: It might be blasphemy or cursing or a broken oath, but it means more than that.
- 29:03Mark Spence: It could mean professing faith in Christ and claiming to be a Christian and receiving baptism and yet walking in worldliness.
- 29:10Mark Spence: So we know from this, really, that blasphemy is so much more than just using God's name.
- 29:16Mark Spence: I mean, even a mute could use God's name in vain through actions, through anordinate affection or ideas and thoughts about God himself.
- 29:26Mark Spence: It's attributing anything other than absolute, perfect holiness to the Holy One.
- 29:33Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and this is because we bear God's name right as Christians.
- 29:38Emeal Zwayne: We are His people, we represent Him to the world.
- 29:41Emeal Zwayne: And so, of course, and again, it's important to understand that, yes, it's two-sided, there is that.
- 29:48Emeal Zwayne: We're going to talk about it, but make no mistake about it.
- 29:51Emeal Zwayne: Using the name of the Lord flippantly, using the name of the Lord like it's a common word, that means nothing, is blasphemy.
- 30:00Emeal Zwayne: It's the violation of God's commandment.
- 30:01Emeal Zwayne: You have to understand that.
- 30:03Emeal Zwayne: And oh, I didn't use, I didn't say you know God's name.
- 30:06Emeal Zwayne: I didn't say Yahweh or Jehovah, I just said God.
- 30:09Emeal Zwayne: And so what's it?
- 30:10Emeal Zwayne: Okay, which God?
- 30:11Emeal Zwayne: Well, any God.
- 30:12Emeal Zwayne: Okay, so you're summoning the names of false deities.
- 30:16Emeal Zwayne: Like, what do you mean?
- 30:17Emeal Zwayne: You know?
- 30:18Ray Comfort: So often I hear people say God is not His name, so it's not blasphemy.
- 30:21Ray Comfort: You're wrong, right and just continually.
- 30:23Ray Comfort: But if I speak ill of the governor of our state without mentioning His name, I'm speaking ill of the governor without mentioning His name because governor and Newsom are synonymous.
- 30:36Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and my question is why would you even want to do that?
- 30:39Emeal Zwayne: Why, Like, is it that hard to say?
- 30:42Emeal Zwayne: I'm not even going there?
- 30:44Emeal Zwayne: Let's say you assume you're definitely, you know, you think you're really right.
- 30:48Emeal Zwayne: Well, if there's even the slightest chance you're wrong, Like just from that perspective, that's not why you shouldn't do it.
- 30:53Emeal Zwayne: But just think about it.
- 30:55Emeal Zwayne: Yeah.
- 30:55Mark Spence: You know, and people that use euphysm right With OAM GOS yes.
- 31:00Ray Comfort: G's G's is the euphemism for.
- 31:02Ray Comfort: Jesus, it's from the 1900s.
- 31:05Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and friends, look, some people may take this as come on, you're going overboard, you're extreme, whatever.
- 31:10Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah, fine, whatever.
- 31:12Emeal Zwayne: We want to go the extra mile to guard ourselves from dishonoring our Lord in any way, shape or form as far as it relates to the way that we live.
- 31:22Emeal Zwayne: This is powerful.
- 31:23Emeal Zwayne: Proverbs 37 through 9 says two things I request of you deprive me not before I die.
- 31:28Emeal Zwayne: Remove falsehood and lies far from me.
- 31:30Emeal Zwayne: Give me neither poverty nor riches.
- 31:32Emeal Zwayne: Feed me with the food allotted to me lest I be full and deny you and say who is the Lord, or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
- 31:42Emeal Zwayne: Well, so that's where blasphemy, too, would relate to the way that we live.
- 31:47Emeal Zwayne: And, oscar, there's a lot of that going on, yeah absolutely.
- 31:50Oscar Navarro: I'm glad we're going there as well, because, honestly, I mean, it's so easy for me to look to other people and be like, oh, that guy's using the Lord's name in vain, he needs to repent.
- 31:58Oscar Navarro: But I think that the scriptures, as usual, go to a point where I then needed to turn to myself and recognize the areas of which I need to repent.
- 32:07Oscar Navarro: And you bring up a great verse I'm thinking of Numbers, chapter six, in which it's a benediction.
- 32:15Oscar Navarro: It says the Lord bless you and keep you.
- 32:16Oscar Navarro: The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
- 32:20Oscar Navarro: The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
- 32:23Oscar Navarro: And then it says and it's talking to the priests here so shall they, the priests, put my name upon the people of Israel and I will bless them.
- 32:35Oscar Navarro: The name of the Lord is then put upon God's people.
- 32:40Oscar Navarro: And in Romans 6 it says don't you know the meaning of your baptism?
- 32:45Oscar Navarro: Don't you know that the name of Christ was placed on you?
- 32:51Oscar Navarro: And so I think about that like, let me just turn.
- 32:54Oscar Navarro: Let me turn the law upon myself for a minute here.
- 32:57Oscar Navarro: And I think about, like all the times I go to work and I don't think of the name of the Lord.
- 33:01Oscar Navarro: I think about all the times I have conversations about politics and I get caught up in the anxious age and I don't think about the name of the Lord.
- 33:08Oscar Navarro: I think about all the times I come to a disagreement and I'm not considering the name of the Lord as placed upon me.
- 33:15Oscar Navarro: I need to come to a place of repentance as well.
- 33:18Oscar Navarro: We need to come to a place of repentance because our actions can blaspheme the name of the Lord along with our words.
- 33:26Oscar Navarro: That's a yes, and yeah.
- 33:28Ray Comfort: So Paul in Romans, chapter 2, speaks to the Jews.
- 33:30Ray Comfort: He said because of your hypocrisy, the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, because of you, and so by living in hypocrisy we can cause.
- 33:39Ray Comfort: You know, that guy calls himself a Christian and he does this and that, and then they blaspheme God's name, counted as worthless because it's not worth living for.
- 33:48Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know, I wonder if there was a distinctly noticeable mark upon us where everybody knew that we were a Christian.
- 33:57Emeal Zwayne: You know, like there was some kind of mark on our forehead On seven.
- 34:01Ray Comfort: seven on the forehead.
- 34:03Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that raised first tattoo is coming.
- 34:05Oscar Navarro: This is the true confession.
- 34:06Oscar Navarro: This is the reason why I don't put Christian bumper stickers in the back of my car.
- 34:10Ray Comfort: No, we're talking about the forehead, not the car.
- 34:13Emeal Zwayne: No, but seriously though I mean because I was thinking about it in this, in this vein, if a police officer was off duty but still wearing his uniform, you can be sure that he's going to behave differently in public.
- 34:28Emeal Zwayne: Then he would if he wasn't wearing that uniform.
- 34:31Emeal Zwayne: You know, or whatever you know, if you can relate it, a military officer or whatever.
- 34:35Emeal Zwayne: They're representing something greater in themselves, it would affect their behavior.
- 34:40Emeal Zwayne: I think for us as Christians, oftentimes, because there isn't as distinguishing mark on us, it's easy for us to forget we represent the name of God.
- 34:48Emeal Zwayne: I think the To be in situations where we're not like thinking like you're talking about Oscar, saying like I forget, you know, I forget I bear God's name, and we need to think about that.
- 34:59Emeal Zwayne: Whether people see us or not, we're the light of the world.
- 35:02Oscar Navarro: I think that through our actions and our decisions we do, we should bear the name of the Lord.
- 35:07Oscar Navarro: You know I think about.
- 35:08Oscar Navarro: I used to work with a guy who was a professional bodybuilder.
- 35:12Oscar Navarro: He's won a handful of awards, and so when he wasn't weightlifting he was in the financial industry.
- 35:16Oscar Navarro: And it was so interesting to me because every where we went you know we were taking a break together we'd be walking around the hall, hallways, in the office and everywhere we went, everybody wanted to talk to him about fitness, about what he was eating, about their diet, about the last time they worked out, about how much they should be doing this and the other.
- 35:33Oscar Navarro: There was something about this man's disposition that people knew what he was all about.
- 35:40Oscar Navarro: Do you have a great physique?
- 35:41Oscar Navarro: Oh, he was a monster.
- 35:43Ray Comfort: I get some.
- 35:44Ray Comfort: I get some of the things, sure yeah.
- 35:46Oscar Navarro: I bet you do.
- 35:46Oscar Navarro: What are you Monster?
- 35:47Oscar Navarro: And so, in that same way, our life, our lives, our character, our disposition, the way we speak, the way we treat others, people should know there's something different about us and they can't help but wonder.
- 36:04Oscar Navarro: But ask.
- 36:05Oscar Navarro: But see the name of the Lord upon your life, yeah.
- 36:09Emeal Zwayne: Well, we've talked about this before, where one of the most common mantras you'll hear unbelievers say is something to the effect of oh, I know what you Christians are like, you know, or Christians are, the are the worst, this or the worst that you know.
- 36:22Emeal Zwayne: Oh, this guy has a fish on his you know logo for his company or whatever, but I see what he does and how he acts.
- 36:28Emeal Zwayne: I mean, look, I think of what it says in Ezekiel 36, 22,.
- 36:32Emeal Zwayne: Therefore, say to the house of Israel, thus says the Lord I do not do this for your sake or house of Israel, but for my holy names sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.
- 36:44Emeal Zwayne: Whew, he's telling his people, you've profaned my holy name.
- 36:48Emeal Zwayne: How could they profane as holy name?
- 36:50Emeal Zwayne: They're his people, they bear his name, and as they went among the pagans, they were acting like them and dishonoring God.
- 36:57Emeal Zwayne: You know, look, mark and I were we're kind of talking about this because we just returned from from a trip abroad.
- 37:04Emeal Zwayne: We were in Puerto Rico.
- 37:05Emeal Zwayne: I'd speak into the conference there and it was just wonderful for those Puerto Rican brothers and sisters listening.
- 37:11Emeal Zwayne: We love you all and we're just touched by your love for the Lord, and how many people there love the ministry?
- 37:18Ray Comfort: You got over 800 people showed up.
- 37:20Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it was amazing.
- 37:21Emeal Zwayne: It was in the largest church in the south of Puerto Rico and they were so just, welcoming, hospitable and have a passion for the lost.
- 37:27Emeal Zwayne: But Mark and I were traveling, we were in the airport.
- 37:30Emeal Zwayne: We were treated very poorly by one of the ladies at the desk there at the airlines.
- 37:36Emeal Zwayne: No yeah, I can't even believe it.
- 37:38Emeal Zwayne: Shocking, and you know I don't do well.
- 37:42Emeal Zwayne: What was her name?
- 37:43Emeal Zwayne: You know, Gisabel.
- 37:45Emeal Zwayne: I think I don't do well in those situations.
- 37:47Emeal Zwayne: I mean, one of my biggest struggles in life is rude at people, Whatever anyway so.
- 37:53Emeal Zwayne: And this lady was very rude and I mean honestly it was ridiculous.
- 38:00Emeal Zwayne: I'm not going to get into the circumstances, but Mark and I held our peace, we gave you know, left them with a tract and stuff and and we walked away.
- 38:08Emeal Zwayne: And we're talking about this.
- 38:09Emeal Zwayne: I'm thinking, man, you know I can get upset in the moment.
- 38:12Emeal Zwayne: I could say something rude, I could, and again, that's my past right.
- 38:15Emeal Zwayne: I have a sharp tongue and I don't do well with.
- 38:18Emeal Zwayne: Yes, look With people.
- 38:19Emeal Zwayne: Support that can get through a story.
- 38:22Emeal Zwayne: But, man, we have to think we represent the name of the Lord and I it was.
- 38:28Emeal Zwayne: It was an itch, right, and the temptation is to scratch that itch by saying something cutting and harsh and whatever.
- 38:35Emeal Zwayne: But okay, I do that and what?
- 38:38Emeal Zwayne: What happens?
- 38:38Emeal Zwayne: I walk away with this person not getting the gospel Forget.
- 38:42Emeal Zwayne: Whether they know I'm a Christian or not, this means I, obviously I, I shouldn't give them a tract after that point.
- 38:48Emeal Zwayne: Right, I mean how terrible.
- 38:49Emeal Zwayne: But okay, so I withhold the gospel from someone.
- 38:52Emeal Zwayne: What, if?
- 38:53Emeal Zwayne: What if she looks me up and recognizes that I'm in ministry, I'm a Christian or whatever, to dishonor the name of the Lord?
- 39:01Emeal Zwayne: For for my my, you know, frustrations, we have to be careful, so I give the testimony.
- 39:07Ray Comfort: She obviously knew she was being rude and you were kind back to her and that might cut her to the heart.
- 39:12Ray Comfort: She just don't know.
- 39:13Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and that's the hope.
- 39:15Emeal Zwayne: You know, I remember one time being treated horribly at a fast food place and I wouldn't put ketchup on.
- 39:22Emeal Zwayne: They put onions in my food and I gave.
- 39:27Emeal Zwayne: I gave the.
- 39:28Emeal Zwayne: I think it was a.
- 39:29Emeal Zwayne: Was it a subway or something anywhere?
- 39:30Emeal Zwayne: But that was your first mistake.
- 39:32Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, I gave them like a 20,.
- 39:34Emeal Zwayne: I just said, hey, this is for you, it was 20 bucks.
- 39:36Emeal Zwayne: And they just stood there like dumbfounded because they knew they were being.
- 39:39Emeal Zwayne: It wasn't like one of those.
- 39:40Emeal Zwayne: They.
- 39:40Emeal Zwayne: They weren't intentionally being rude, you know.
- 39:42Emeal Zwayne: And so we have to think about that, because we represent in the name of the Lord, have you let's?
- 39:47Mark Spence: let's explore this a little bit.
- 39:48Mark Spence: I mean, when we talk about not honoring God, is it possible and I'm throwing this question out there because I don't have it figured out right Is it possible to blaspheme God by not sharing the gospel with people?
- 40:03Mark Spence: And what I mean by that is this that we are given an opportunity to share the gospel, we don't share the gospel with them?
- 40:10Mark Spence: And, in essence, through our actions, we're saying God, I'm okay with you damning that person to hell.
- 40:19Mark Spence: God, condemn them.
- 40:22Mark Spence: I can't even put the word dam in the midst of that right.
- 40:26Mark Spence: God condemn them to hell, I'm okay with it.
- 40:29Mark Spence: Just just a weird word picture association with that when we don't share the gospel through knowing what we need to do, whether it's handing the tracker, engaging inside of a word Boy, what a, what a weird twist.
- 40:43Mark Spence: I mean, what are you guys' thoughts on that?
- 40:45Mark Spence: Is that over stretching, over thinking?
- 40:48Emeal Zwayne: Well, you know what I think, mark.
- 40:49Emeal Zwayne: It's a good thing to explore and to think on.
- 40:52Emeal Zwayne: I don't know if I have a fully clear answer.
- 40:54Emeal Zwayne: I could just say that it's tragic, no question, you know, and I think about that, you know, and I'm about to leave a person that I'd spent a good amount of time with, that I didn't know, or on in whatever situation, to leave that and to think I'm a representative of God, I'm an ambassador for Jesus Christ, I know the way of salvation.
- 41:13Emeal Zwayne: This person is on their way to hell.
- 41:15Emeal Zwayne: How could I not?
- 41:18Mark Spence: Is there anything more selfish?
- 41:19Emeal Zwayne: It really it is, and and may God quicken us.
- 41:24Ray Comfort: We're going to go to the pendulum quote in a minute.
- 41:27Oscar Navarro: Yeah, yeah, seriously, what is that?
- 41:29Emeal Zwayne: Ray.
- 41:29Ray Comfort: I can't remember.
- 41:30Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:31Emeal Zwayne: Well, I'll share it.
- 41:32Emeal Zwayne: You know, penn Gillette for those of you that don't know is a world renowned atheist and he's a guy that makes the shaving cream.
- 41:39Emeal Zwayne: And he did a video one day that was really famous, where he talked about how this man came up to him after one of his performances Again, he's a magician and gave him a Bible and he went on about this guy's demeanor and his kindness and his sincerity and then he said look, and Penn Gillette's an atheist, a renowned atheist.
- 41:59Emeal Zwayne: He would tear Bibles up, he would blaspheme God to no end with mock Christian spirit, and he talked about how much he admired this man.
- 42:07Emeal Zwayne: And then he said I don't respect anyone who believes in heaven and in hell, that these are real, that someone can go to hell or avoid heaven and not tell people how they can be saved.
- 42:20Emeal Zwayne: He said I have no respect for that, for people who don't proselytize or who don't evangelize.
- 42:24Emeal Zwayne: And he said how much do you have to hate someone?
- 42:27Emeal Zwayne: He said if there's a truck coming on someone, it's bearing down, it's about to hit them and you see them there, there comes a point where you tackle that person, that's.
- 42:36Emeal Zwayne: And he said these words that's how important it is An atheist saying he has no respect for Christians who claim to believe what they believe and don't share their knowledge.
- 42:46Ray Comfort: And then we discovered that the Bible he was given was an evidence Bible, and the whole story is in a movie called the Fool.
- 42:53Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, by someone who follows our mystery.
- 42:55Emeal Zwayne: And then Ray got to tell Pendulette that story on the streets of DC and he said, penn, I'm tackling you now.
- 43:01Emeal Zwayne: Penn goes, huh, and Ray reminded him of what he shared about the vehicle coming.
- 43:04Emeal Zwayne: And he goes, okay, and then he takes off across the street.
- 43:07Emeal Zwayne: We hear the screeching of tires.
- 43:08Emeal Zwayne: I was there, I witnessed.
- 43:10Emeal Zwayne: We look up, we see Penn and his friend penned against a bus that was in front of them and they had nowhere to go because the car was coming.
- 43:18Emeal Zwayne: And he later said on that program, remember that the car hit his friend's pant leg.
- 43:23Emeal Zwayne: That's how close it was.
- 43:24Mark Spence: Right after Ray reiterated that illustration for him it's quite amazing yeah so the patience of God, yeah we're talking about blasphemy and I read a quote by Spurgeon.
- 43:35Ray Comfort: I had to read it twice to figure what he was saying Typical Spurgeon.
- 43:37Ray Comfort: But he said you guys will hear it once and know what he said.
- 43:39Ray Comfort: He said the ungodly are not half so restrained in their blasphemy as we are in our praise.
- 43:45Ray Comfort: Wow, isn't that powerful.
- 43:47Ray Comfort: And you listen to it Can you say it again, the ungodly are not half so restrained in their blasphemy as we are in our praise.
- 43:55Ray Comfort: Wow, and it's so true because so many people have talked to it.
- 43:59Ray Comfort: Do you ever use God's name?
- 44:00Ray Comfort: I mean all the time.
- 44:02Oscar Navarro: Yeah.
- 44:03Ray Comfort: It's like they've got a zeal to blaspheme God's name, and you know, the scriptures say that we're enemies of God in our mind through wicked works.
- 44:09Ray Comfort: What greater evidence that we're enemies of God than that we use his holy name as a caskwood when he gave us life?
- 44:15Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it's a horror beyond words, mark, it's interesting to me that there's not a pause Like why is it the unbeliever doesn't stop and say why do I do that with Jesus' name?
- 44:26Mark Spence: Boy, because they are in darkness.
- 44:27Mark Spence: It just flows from their mouth like honey.
- 44:29Mark Spence: It is who they are.
- 44:31Mark Spence: I follow an Instagram account that I really really like.
- 44:35Mark Spence: It's by a woman named Hasty Gomez and biblical and Reformed, if you were to look it up on Instagram.
- 44:40Mark Spence: But she tells the story how she went to get her eyebrows done and she had said something to the woman who was doing her eyebrows and the woman responded with Jesus, like that.
- 44:53Mark Spence: And Hasty responded back with is Lord, the lady in our eyebrows stopped.
- 45:00Mark Spence: She started laughing while nodding and she said yes, yes, yes, I'm sorry, yes.
- 45:05Mark Spence: And Then hasty tells the crowd she said bring up his name in my presence and I'll declare that he is Lord.
- 45:12Ray Comfort: Wow, I like that actually that's a good idea to be quick-minded Whenever you hear someone boxing to say is Lord so let's sing it together.
- 45:20Oscar Navarro: I had I was playing basketball and a guy on my team he's a Christian and he is a faithful Christian, but he is a new believer I thought I heard him say Jesus after he missed a shot, but I wasn't entirely sure.
- 45:31Oscar Navarro: And then, sure enough, he missed another shot and I heard him say Jesus and as we're running down the Court, I like bumped him and I was like, hey, man, it's not his fault, like it's not his fault, you missed that shot.
- 45:43Oscar Navarro: And later on, after the game, you know, we had a chat and he was like ah, man, you're, you're right.
- 45:48Ray Comfort: He's amazing how powerful the conscience is when you bring up the morality of using God's name as a customer, almost everybody goes yeah, I know it's wrong.
- 45:56Ray Comfort: No, there's that intuitive understanding that this is wrong, right, but they don't realize the consequence.
- 46:01Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and and people are gonna give account for every idle word spoken.
- 46:05Ray Comfort: I mean, that's not gonna go.
- 46:06Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and.
- 46:07Emeal Zwayne: And you know the thought that scripture tells us out of the abundance of the heart, the mouse speaks.
- 46:12Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know that's, that's a reality.
- 46:14Emeal Zwayne: And and and again.
- 46:15Emeal Zwayne: Philippians 2, 9 to 11, which talks about Jesus name being above every name.
- 46:19Emeal Zwayne: One day, every knee will bound, every tongue will confess that he is Lord.
- 46:24Ray Comfort: Glory of God and Mark was talking about the young lady or the lady he was quoting.
- 46:27Ray Comfort: He said I really really like and you missed it what I really really like this.
- 46:32Emeal Zwayne: TV show Our buddy Alan from Paris, let me kind of.
- 46:38Oscar Navarro: I think acts 3 gives us a good, a good indication of where the gospel is in the midst of the Lord's name and taking it in vain.
- 46:46Oscar Navarro: And before I go there, let me also kind of reflect back to my early days as a Christian.
- 46:52Oscar Navarro: There was this band singer was an atheist and I used to really enjoy them, gone to their shows.
- 46:58Oscar Navarro: As an atheist, I go to their shows.
- 46:59Oscar Navarro: And who are they?
- 47:00Oscar Navarro: I don't want to name the name, okay, I don't think it's necessary, but I was a big fan of these guys when I first became a Christian.
- 47:07Oscar Navarro: I would still listen to their music, knowing how he would blaspheme the name of the Lord.
- 47:12Oscar Navarro: Beyond that, I mean hit.
- 47:13Oscar Navarro: The words were just so blatantly anti-Christian, anti-jesus, and in my mind at that time I was trying to rationalize and I was wrong.
- 47:23Oscar Navarro: I was trying to rationalize.
- 47:23Oscar Navarro: In my mind I was like, well, you know, I'm listening because the drummer and his time signature changes are so good, there's so much talent here.
- 47:31Oscar Navarro: I'm listening for that and not for the lyrics.
- 47:34Oscar Navarro: And one day I'm in my car as a new believer I think I'm headed the church and I've got this is CDs back in the day.
- 47:41Oscar Navarro: For those who don't know what it is, google it.
- 47:43Oscar Navarro: I saw I'm listening to the CD and it and I kind of this like aha moment came upon me.
- 47:50Oscar Navarro: And the aha moment was like I love my mom and I love my grandma.
- 47:55Oscar Navarro: And if anybody out there ever wrote a song Like be littling my mother or be littling my grandma, there was no way I'd put it on and be like, oh, but man, they're really talented.
- 48:09Oscar Navarro: It would be so offensive to me and I hit the eject button and like have never put that.
- 48:15Emeal Zwayne: CD back in, never listened.
- 48:16Emeal Zwayne: I appreciate you Well yeah, oh sorry.
- 48:19Oscar Navarro: And just to circle back to the gospel in acts three, there's this moment where Peter and John meet this crippled beggar outside the temple and Peter says to him acts three, verse six I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
- 48:37Oscar Navarro: Rise up and walk.
- 48:39Oscar Navarro: And after that moment, after that healing, the crowds get Furious.
- 48:44Oscar Navarro: They're angry at this healing.
- 48:45Oscar Navarro: And Peter says to them why do you stare at us?
- 48:48Oscar Navarro: As though our own power, piety, we have made him walk by faith in the name of Jesus.
- 48:56Oscar Navarro: This man was made strong later on, in verse 12.
- 49:00Oscar Navarro: He says there is Salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we Must be saved.
- 49:09Oscar Navarro: It is in the name of Jesus that we are forgiven of our blasphemous ways, and it is in the name of Jesus that we can repent from our blasphemous waves for his glory.
- 49:20Emeal Zwayne: So, my man, yeah, and we cannot forget the way that Christ taught us to pray.
- 49:24Emeal Zwayne: Matthew 6, 9.
- 49:25Emeal Zwayne: Our father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
- 49:28Emeal Zwayne: God's name is holy, and friends, I'd encourage you to do a study on all the different names that God used to refer to himself.
- 49:36Emeal Zwayne: I mean, they're amazing names.
- 49:38Emeal Zwayne: You know all throughout the word.
- 49:40Emeal Zwayne: We don't have time to get into them here, but now time is up.
- 49:43Emeal Zwayne: I had them listed, but but just beautiful names that describe God's nature and God's character.
- 49:48Emeal Zwayne: You know El Shaddai, god Almighty, elohim the creator, emmanuel.
- 49:52Emeal Zwayne: You know Jesus name.
- 49:53Emeal Zwayne: God with us On and on all that.
- 49:56Oscar Navarro: You know the Jehovah I don't remember where on and on is.
- 49:58Emeal Zwayne: You've never heard that one, oh yeah from the land of on he's, he's always going on and on.
- 50:02Emeal Zwayne: Jehovah Nisi, the Lord, our banner, the Jehovah Rafa, the Lord, our healer, jehovah Rohe, the Lord, our shepherd, and on and on.
- 50:10Emeal Zwayne: Study the names of God, study the character and the nature of your God, and don't ever use his name in vain, verbally or through your life.
- 50:21Emeal Zwayne: He's worthy of the honor that he deserves.
- 50:24Emeal Zwayne: Amen, amen, all right friends.
- 50:27Emeal Zwayne: Uh, we are done.
- 50:29Emeal Zwayne: You're raising your hand right.
- 50:30Ray Comfort: Yes, uh, wayne's wonderful daughter, who interviewed me yesterday for a podcast, said that she just gets so Disappointed when you go serious at the end and don't go silly.
- 50:40Emeal Zwayne: She looks forward to I know, sometimes it's just not appropriate.
- 50:44Emeal Zwayne: Right, we said that, yeah, but friends, don't forget, let them hear.
