- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome, welcome, welcome. He
- 0:03Speaker 1: he's the time now for car talk we had done
- 0:06Speaker 1: to Toyota. Brad Dungeons is in studio with many many friends.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Good morning Tom, Good morning everyone out there. Thank you
- 0:13Speaker 2: for joining us. We're so glad you're with us today.
- 0:15Speaker 2: It is another beautiful morning sort of in Bartlesville. We've
- 0:19Speaker 2: got kind of a cloudy week going on and finally
- 0:22Speaker 2: getting some rain. We sure needed that. And I've got
- 0:27Speaker 2: my friends here from the Boy Scouts and local Boy
- 0:30Speaker 2: Scout troops and Philip. Welcome, glad to have you here.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I missed you at Rotary Monday. We didn't get to talk,
- 0:38Speaker 2: but it's anyway.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 0:41Speaker 3: You guys have been busy lately. You guys have a
- 0:43Speaker 3: lot going on.
- 0:44Speaker 2: This time of year.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And we do thing last Thursday.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Yes, yes, special, thank you. I want to if I
- 0:51Speaker 4: say thank you to you, not away. Thank you to
- 0:53Speaker 4: our board, thank you all about captains. We had thank
- 0:57Speaker 4: the leadership with Terry Taylor Hall of Captains and Mason
- 1:00Speaker 4: our speaker. We had a great, great banquet, our donors,
- 1:04Speaker 4: our volunteers, our staff. We raised over ninety eight percent
- 1:11Speaker 4: of our goal by the end of the event, and
- 1:13Speaker 4: I just we want to say thank you thanks to
- 1:15Speaker 4: our community under this tent of check Hered Council for
- 1:17Speaker 4: supporting us. What a great, great event, and just thank
- 1:20Speaker 4: everybody that came out and everybody that supported us to
- 1:23Speaker 4: get us to this point right now.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Thank you. That's awesome.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Well that's it's a great event. It's a lot of fun.
- 1:28Speaker 2: You're at it. It looked like a great So I
- 1:30Speaker 2: wasn't able to be there. I was out of town
- 1:32Speaker 2: last week, but it seemed like we was going to
- 1:35Speaker 2: be a great speaker.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Oh, Ricky Mason was amazing. Ricky Mason were charde lecture.
- 1:41Speaker 4: The National Organization came. He was in DAWs for board
- 1:44Speaker 4: me and he came over, spent two days with us
- 1:46Speaker 4: and just such humble man, I mean just humility coming
- 1:51Speaker 4: out of his bones, just his words. His speech was amazing.
- 1:55Speaker 4: I mean the room stood up, it was a standing
- 1:57Speaker 4: ovation and his delivery is amazing. And then the next
- 2:01Speaker 4: day he spent time with us, He got to visit
- 2:03Speaker 4: the council and got to see what we do at
- 2:05Speaker 4: an organization, got to visit with volunteers, and so it's
- 2:09Speaker 4: just amazing the time that he spent when the quality
- 2:11Speaker 4: time he's spent with us, and so we thank him
- 2:14Speaker 4: so much for taking time out of his schedule to
- 2:16Speaker 4: come all the way to the Body Will and see
- 2:18Speaker 4: our scher Care Council in action.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Well, the Cherokee Council is worth coming to see.
- 2:23Speaker 2: You guys are special, I mean guys, I think, I mean,
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think so, and I think you know, compared to
- 2:31Speaker 2: other parts of the world, the Scouts are super so
- 2:33Speaker 2: strong here and you guys do accomplished a lot each year.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I mean, I know you tell us about it at
- 2:39Speaker 2: Rotary sometimes and I know that it's not It doesn't
- 2:44Speaker 2: go without a lot of work and planning and just
- 2:46Speaker 2: getting and the community supporting what you do. Like you said,
- 2:51Speaker 2: and let's face it, the Scouts themselves, because are the
- 2:55Speaker 2: ones that really do everything, I mean.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Other than what you guys do. Correct, It takes everybody.
- 3:01Speaker 4: It's a wonderful ten right, and in those starts with
- 3:04Speaker 4: our board and our staff. We have a great board,
- 3:06Speaker 4: great staff, and then it goes down to for example,
- 3:10Speaker 4: like with the fundraiser, our captains, and then all the
- 3:12Speaker 4: organizations that support us, Unit Away, d Q, the Bennet
- 3:16Speaker 4: Foundation is amazing to seed. We have supporters from all
- 3:20Speaker 4: over that come in and then it takes the community
- 3:23Speaker 4: and so with the adult leaders that are there every
- 3:26Speaker 4: week with our youth, the result of that is just
- 3:30Speaker 4: an amazing product. And our job, all of our leaders
- 3:36Speaker 4: that meet with our scouts at the end of the day,
- 3:39Speaker 4: one single job, and that is to prepare our youth
- 3:41Speaker 4: for life. And we do that starting with kindergarten, going
- 3:46Speaker 4: all the way up to we have as a matter
- 3:48Speaker 4: of fact, we have some seniors right now there in
- 3:51Speaker 4: the Scouting program. And so last year was another great
- 3:53Speaker 4: year in membership, in finance, performance, and so we're here
- 3:57Speaker 4: to say thank you, thank you, thank you to our
- 3:59Speaker 4: entire community. Thank you for the point of Charital Council
- 4:01Speaker 4: and now you because how you they are leaders now
- 4:05Speaker 4: Louise Little Future and so we won't say thank you.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Well that is so important we do.
- 4:09Speaker 2: We talk about all that all the time, a dealership
- 4:12Speaker 2: about leadership, and we had a meeting on Monday about
- 4:17Speaker 2: Tuesday about the growth mindset and about how you have
- 4:21Speaker 2: to have your head right in order to not you know,
- 4:24Speaker 2: just be reactive in life. You have to being proactive
- 4:29Speaker 2: being a leader, being you know, having that mindset of
- 4:32Speaker 2: growth and trying to accomplish things, and Scouts really does
- 4:37Speaker 2: instill that in people, I think, and I mean it's
- 4:40Speaker 2: designed to They're designed to help you connect with people
- 4:44Speaker 2: and other people that have the interests you have to send,
- 4:47Speaker 2: to show you new things that you might become interested in,
- 4:51Speaker 2: and to help you, you know, like you said, prepare
- 4:55Speaker 2: yourself for.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Life exactly exactly you take those skills. We have over
- 4:58Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty four Merri badget Another good example
- 5:02Speaker 4: of that is this past weekend we had the Merri
- 5:04Speaker 4: Badge Festival at Tri Counting Tech, so special thinking try
- 5:08Speaker 4: Counting Tech for supporting that, and we had over seventy
- 5:11Speaker 4: seven almost eighty plus youth that came Scouts that came
- 5:15Speaker 4: to work on Merit badges. And that Merribage system is
- 5:18Speaker 4: the one that you can end up having a career
- 5:21Speaker 4: just by being by being part of a Meyri badge.
- 5:24Speaker 4: And so to become an Eagle Scout, you know you
- 5:26Speaker 4: have twenty four marribadge you.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Have to do. But along the way, you never know
- 5:30Speaker 5: what Meri badge.
- 5:31Speaker 4: It could be welding, it could be citizenship in the community,
- 5:35Speaker 4: it could be engineering. You never know what Mari Badge
- 5:38Speaker 4: could be sustainability that would then take that youth and
- 5:42Speaker 4: then go, you know what, this is what I want
- 5:43Speaker 4: to do for the rest.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Of my life.
- 5:45Speaker 3: That's really cool, you know.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I you know, I remember when my kids were involved
- 5:50Speaker 2: in Scouting and we and those opportunities.
- 5:54Speaker 3: They had to start learning things.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And sometimes I think a lot of people listening out
- 5:58Speaker 2: there may just kind of have that it were experienced
- 6:01Speaker 2: with Scouts that come for a while and it kind
- 6:03Speaker 2: of passes through their lives and it's gone. But you know,
- 6:07Speaker 2: it is something that's important, impacts our community and and
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think it can really build people's lives, right.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's so much and Andre talking about about
- 6:19Speaker 4: Merrit Badgers and and the work that Scouts are doing.
- 6:22Speaker 4: This this weekend, we have two big events coming up.
- 6:26Speaker 4: The first one is at the Thai Collection, which is
- 6:28Speaker 4: in the morning. We have a Thaie Collection in pa
- 6:32Speaker 4: Huska at the one o two Midland Avenue which is
- 6:37Speaker 4: by Altas Nations bot by Old Sat Nations Resource Center
- 6:39Speaker 4: farm Land and you can come from nine to twelve
- 6:43Speaker 4: and bring any extra tires you may have.
- 6:45Speaker 5: We have a lotcycle, so yeah, you're required to do
- 6:53Speaker 5: that at a car business and so the community you
- 6:57Speaker 5: never know, right, you know, we don't want to them
- 7:00Speaker 5: out in the correct correct in.
- 7:01Speaker 2: The in the world just playing there and pasture that's
- 7:05Speaker 2: not good.
- 7:05Speaker 4: That's not good for the environment. You know, it's not
- 7:07Speaker 4: good for the pasture. And so, uh, this this is
- 7:10Speaker 4: the one that is our second annual one.
- 7:12Speaker 5: We did it last year. Now we're doing it again.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Uh this Saturday morning and then at one o'clock at
- 7:17Speaker 4: the mall we have the Pine with dirty race. So
- 7:20Speaker 4: the morning you can you can bring your extra tide
- 7:22Speaker 4: you have at home, and then at one o'clock you
- 7:24Speaker 4: can come to the mall, the Washington County Park Mall
- 7:27Speaker 4: and you can do your Pine with Pine dirt race
- 7:30Speaker 4: from one o'clock on them. And so place to have
- 7:33Speaker 4: it's a great place to have it.
- 7:34Speaker 6: You know, we're safe, they're so supportive and so welcome
- 7:38Speaker 6: in the room.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Spectators kind of probably feel welcome there.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome that it's a great place to remind
- 7:45Speaker 5: people what is involved in the derby.
- 7:47Speaker 4: So so we we say that we teach physics in
- 7:51Speaker 4: the first grade, and so with the Pine with derby,
- 7:54Speaker 4: you know, our scouts have to start really early, so little.
- 7:57Speaker 4: At kindergarten, you have parents, dads, moms, parents, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 4: working with their little cup scout to build a power
- 8:04Speaker 4: derby and to see how fast it can go.
- 8:06Speaker 5: And it's amazing what this journey.
- 8:10Speaker 4: You see parents that get competitive, you said, kid that
- 8:13Speaker 4: get competitive. And every year you get a chance to
- 8:16Speaker 4: design your car and make it better and better, better, better,
- 8:19Speaker 4: that simple simple lesson of learning how to put a
- 8:24Speaker 4: little extra on the car, you know, take a little
- 8:26Speaker 4: bit moored off of it. You learn physic you learn,
- 8:29Speaker 4: you learn how to you know the difference between mass
- 8:32Speaker 4: of speed acceleration and how that affects the speed of
- 8:35Speaker 4: a car. And if you start those lessons early on,
- 8:38Speaker 4: like we're doing scouting in the first in kindergarten. By
- 8:41Speaker 4: the time our scouts go into seventh grade and eighth
- 8:43Speaker 4: grade and have to take real physics, that recall comes
- 8:46Speaker 4: in and they start to realize, oh my goodness, velocity
- 8:50Speaker 4: distance divided by time. I know how that works. And
- 8:53Speaker 4: so we start at the very early age teaching physics.
- 8:56Speaker 4: The pino derby.
- 8:57Speaker 2: That's cool and right again, that's at one o'clock on
- 9:00Speaker 2: Saturday at the Washington Parking Mall and uh, it's all
- 9:06Speaker 2: the different different level, different levels.
- 9:08Speaker 5: So it's going to have kindergarten through fifth grade.
- 9:11Speaker 3: How many cars do you think will be there?
- 9:13Speaker 6: Last year we had about twenty five okay, so it's
- 9:17Speaker 6: a fun time.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Yeah, fun time.
- 9:20Speaker 6: And we raced them by then. So kindergarteners against kindergarteners,
- 9:23Speaker 6: first against first grade and then at the end we
- 9:25Speaker 6: have an open class. So if adults want to come
- 9:27Speaker 6: race five dollars build your car, you can come race
- 9:31Speaker 6: against some real cls.
- 9:32Speaker 3: If one ready.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Saturday, I remember working on those with with my sons.
- 9:42Speaker 5: It's a lot of fun. Forget it right, forget.
- 9:47Speaker 3: And the tire.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You know you mentioned the tire recycling event and you
- 9:51Speaker 2: guys do recycling year round, we do.
- 9:53Speaker 4: We do so just so bank with a community for
- 9:57Speaker 4: coming out of recycle. We had a another great year
- 10:00Speaker 4: and recycling. We did one hundred and thirty three thousand
- 10:04Speaker 4: pounds the community last year. We have folks from from
- 10:07Speaker 4: from almost five counties coming to recycle right here at
- 10:10Speaker 4: the check Care Council in Quapak five two zero have
- 10:13Speaker 4: quapa and so we recycle plastic ones, plastic two, your
- 10:16Speaker 4: plastic five, we do your Thermino plastics. We do callboard.
- 10:20Speaker 4: All that was are callboard, and then we do a
- 10:22Speaker 4: lumin caff still can't and newspaper. And the newspaper we
- 10:25Speaker 4: donate to the Sutton Adian Center in town and so
- 10:28Speaker 4: it helps them with their season and they don't track
- 10:30Speaker 4: to reach their goal of having enough of two seasons.
- 10:33Speaker 4: So we're very proud of the relationship and the community
- 10:36Speaker 4: come in bringing the newspapers over. We want to thank
- 10:38Speaker 4: all of our partners from United Way, from the met
- 10:42Speaker 4: Ability Works.
- 10:43Speaker 5: We have so many partners in town that help us.
- 10:46Speaker 4: City Compassion, City Church, Chef ron Phillips, all of our
- 10:50Speaker 4: community partners that come in and help us do United
- 10:52Speaker 4: Methodist Church.
- 10:54Speaker 5: It takes everybody, you know, and.
- 10:56Speaker 2: So how did someone drop off stuff? Do they need
- 10:59Speaker 2: to organize it? Oh, that's the wonderful thing about it.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Right.
- 11:02Speaker 4: So we we're twenty four seven. We don't close, so
- 11:06Speaker 4: we're open on weekends, we're open on holidays. We don't close.
- 11:09Speaker 4: And when you drive up to the office. On the
- 11:12Speaker 4: side of the office you'll see the bins. They're all
- 11:14Speaker 4: well labeled and so you'll see this is for cardboard,
- 11:17Speaker 4: this is for plastic one this foot and you're plastics.
- 11:20Speaker 4: You don't have to separate them. Okay, So just from
- 11:23Speaker 4: all in one location. We have two areas now just
- 11:26Speaker 4: for the plastics. We have another area for cardboard, and
- 11:30Speaker 4: then we have another area for paper, newspaper and wrapping paper.
- 11:34Speaker 5: And so it's really easy.
- 11:36Speaker 4: You can come in within five or six minutes, you're
- 11:38Speaker 4: done and you're on by your day. And that's part
- 11:40Speaker 4: of the beauty of it, making it very easy. And
- 11:45Speaker 4: I want to say another special thank you to Tiffany
- 11:47Speaker 4: Cook who came to us about four years ago and said, hey, look,
- 11:50Speaker 4: we're teaching sustainability, why don't we do more? And that
- 11:54Speaker 4: started as a smaller project of literally just four bins,
- 11:58Speaker 4: and today we have five centers small satellite centers, plus
- 12:03Speaker 4: our big recycling hub right here at the Boycott office.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Five touels have pop on and so the community now
- 12:10Speaker 4: can recycle twenty four seven and it's been great.
- 12:12Speaker 3: That's awesome, and you guys collect a lot of stuff.
- 12:15Speaker 5: We do.
- 12:16Speaker 4: We do last year, we triple we did the year
- 12:18Speaker 4: before that, so that was amazing, amazing work. But the
- 12:21Speaker 4: entire community coming out to recycle with but want to
- 12:23Speaker 4: continue that process that.
- 12:24Speaker 5: We want to say thank you.
- 12:25Speaker 4: If you recycle with us, someone say thank you and
- 12:28Speaker 4: please continue to bring keep out of the light field.
- 12:31Speaker 5: That's right, I mean, that's really the that's right.
- 12:33Speaker 2: A lot of people need to realize is if you
- 12:35Speaker 2: just throw it in the trash, it's going.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Over on the hill right there.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And there's plenty of stuff there already, and some start's
- 12:42Speaker 2: going to end up there.
- 12:43Speaker 3: It's not that way.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Don't need a landfill, but as we can try to
- 12:47Speaker 2: prevent as much going there as possible, and if stuff
- 12:50Speaker 2: can be repurposed and reused.
- 12:52Speaker 4: If you'd like the newspaper, and that's another big example
- 12:54Speaker 4: of something that could be reused, and it's helping the
- 12:57Speaker 4: sudn Akens.
- 12:57Speaker 3: How do they use it?
- 12:59Speaker 4: So they use it for a lining for their for
- 13:01Speaker 4: their see them with their herds and all that, and
- 13:03Speaker 4: so it's a really wonderful process that they use. And
- 13:06Speaker 4: so being able to have I mean, we have folk
- 13:09Speaker 4: that come from No Water Pahusca that bring newspapers to
- 13:13Speaker 4: us and then we pick them up and then we
- 13:15Speaker 4: take it to them and sometimes they come and pick
- 13:16Speaker 4: up as well, and so it's it's a great relationship
- 13:19Speaker 4: and a great way to see something that can be
- 13:21Speaker 4: reused and repurposed.
- 13:22Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Yeah, then you know, I just love what you guys
- 13:26Speaker 2: do and your energy, Philip is outstanding and.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Have a great team.
- 13:34Speaker 2: And we've talked before on the show about your story
- 13:37Speaker 2: and how you got involved in Scouts. I gotta I
- 13:40Speaker 2: gotta get you to tell that story again. And I'm wondering,
- 13:44Speaker 2: you know how you got here? Is Amber summer summer?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Okay summer? How did you get involved in Scouts?
- 13:50Speaker 6: So my boys came home one day and they wanted
- 13:53Speaker 6: to join Cub Scouts so they could wear the blue
- 13:55Speaker 6: shirt like they're friends at school. And we just kind
- 13:58Speaker 6: of hung out that first year and watched, and then
- 14:00Speaker 6: at the end of the year, I said I was
- 14:02Speaker 6: going to get involved. And then we transitioned our pack
- 14:05Speaker 6: from a boy pack to a family pack. And then
- 14:07Speaker 6: Philip said, you're really good at this. Do you want
- 14:08Speaker 6: a job? And I said, no, thanks, I'm good, No thanks,
- 14:11Speaker 6: I'm not looking. I'm not looking for a job right now.
- 14:13Speaker 6: And he said, no, come on, come come, I have
- 14:16Speaker 6: this job that you're perfect for. And I said, I
- 14:17Speaker 6: read the description. I don't want to do that. And
- 14:20Speaker 6: then he asked me a third time and I said,
- 14:22Speaker 6: but I have two year old twins at home and
- 14:24Speaker 6: I don't have daycare. And he said, come talk to me.
- 14:27Speaker 6: We'll work around it. You'll never have to put them
- 14:29Speaker 6: in daycare. And I didn't. And I'm going on three
- 14:32Speaker 6: and a half years now, and he's always been amazing
- 14:35Speaker 6: about working around my family being my priority. And I've
- 14:38Speaker 6: never missed a field trip or a parent teacher conference
- 14:40Speaker 6: or any of those things. And he's amazing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: To work shop.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Yeah, all the time. It's hard to say no to this.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Fellow. That's awesome.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And you know, remind us too a little bit about
- 14:56Speaker 2: your backstory and how did you end up here doing
- 14:58Speaker 2: what you're doing.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So so thank you for asking, right And I
- 15:02Speaker 4: want to say another petsiel thanks to our team. We
- 15:04Speaker 4: have a great team six just powerful uh volunteers. And
- 15:08Speaker 4: I was so I was an architect. I was in architecture,
- 15:12Speaker 4: and I was in Mississippi and at the time I
- 15:14Speaker 4: had just graduated, I was doing I was in my
- 15:16Speaker 4: second going on my third year architecture and my my
- 15:19Speaker 4: dream by the time was to just build out. We
- 15:21Speaker 4: were building homes, million dollar homes. At the time, and
- 15:24Speaker 4: just an amazing process that we're going through and.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Then fun thing to do to build things.
- 15:30Speaker 5: From the from the ground up. And uh.
- 15:32Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, uh, my boss at
- 15:34Speaker 4: the time came and said, look, uh, that paycheck we
- 15:37Speaker 4: gave you on Friday.
- 15:38Speaker 5: You know it's gonna bounce. And so we started looking
- 15:41Speaker 5: for the jobs.
- 15:42Speaker 4: And then I started interviewing, and uh, I interviewed.
- 15:46Speaker 5: I had two wines.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I was down to two final interviews, one with the
- 15:49Speaker 4: boy Scouts and another one with PEPSI, and PEPSI was
- 15:52Speaker 4: gonna offer me a full time job, car benefits, all
- 15:55Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. And then the boy Scout job
- 15:58Speaker 4: was that they were going to offer me one hundred
- 16:01Speaker 4: and fifty dollars a week and no benefits, nothing.
- 16:05Speaker 5: And so I called my parents, my.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Late mom and my dad, and I called and I said, hey, look,
- 16:10Speaker 4: I just want you to know I have these two
- 16:12Speaker 4: final offers and I want to do the responsible thing,
- 16:15Speaker 4: and I'm going to take.
- 16:16Speaker 5: The PEPSI job.
- 16:17Speaker 4: And my dad was on the phone and he said, son,
- 16:22Speaker 4: don't call this house again until you have that boy
- 16:25Speaker 4: Scout job, and so I hung up. He hung up
- 16:28Speaker 4: on me and then I asked my mom. I said, Mom,
- 16:30Speaker 4: what's going on? And I did not know this at
- 16:32Speaker 4: the time, and I was a grown man. I was
- 16:34Speaker 4: a college graduate in every bet did not know the
- 16:37Speaker 4: whole backstory of scouting in our family. And so my
- 16:40Speaker 4: mom explained to me that my father was an orphan
- 16:45Speaker 4: at a very young age and he was in scouting
- 16:48Speaker 4: for three years.
- 16:49Speaker 5: He learned leadership discipline.
- 16:51Speaker 4: But there was one married bage engineering and he said,
- 16:53Speaker 4: because of that engineering, Mary Badge, your father became an
- 16:57Speaker 4: hour and elkor engineer. And all of you, there are
- 17:00Speaker 4: four of us. Your sister's a doctor in California.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Then it's you.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Then your other brother went to Louisiana Tech and he's
- 17:09Speaker 4: an engineer with Loreel. And then my youngest brother he
- 17:13Speaker 4: went to MIT, got his PhD from MIT and as
- 17:17Speaker 4: a professor with Tenant, Iowa State. And so my mom
- 17:20Speaker 4: failed me. In all these years, we haven't given back
- 17:24Speaker 4: to scouting. So, son, because of what scouting I've don't
- 17:28Speaker 4: find entire family. It's not your job to go give
- 17:32Speaker 4: back to scouting. And so with that phone call, and
- 17:36Speaker 4: that was May fourteenth of nineteen ninety nine, I went
- 17:39Speaker 4: into the boy Scout office and I said I will
- 17:41Speaker 4: accept that job.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Twenty seven years later, we're still here.
- 17:46Speaker 3: And then I just love that story.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Then it's what you call it sparks at the viewership,
- 17:51Speaker 2: the sincere partnerships aligned resilient guys and superheroes, and but
- 17:57Speaker 2: it's really about that those things that kind of sneak
- 18:01Speaker 2: up on you and push you towards something and then
- 18:05Speaker 2: you're like a little further and the further, and it
- 18:08Speaker 2: starts to build momentum. And you were the impact you've
- 18:12Speaker 2: had in those twenty seven years. Imagine all the lives
- 18:16Speaker 2: you've touched, and thank you for the storytelling us the
- 18:20Speaker 2: story again and for your your impact on our community.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And no, I think it's a it's a great, great
- 18:28Speaker 2: thing and people need to understand that how that works,
- 18:31Speaker 2: and you know how the world you know is better
- 18:36Speaker 2: because of what you guys do. And thank you for
- 18:39Speaker 2: your sacrifice a little bit financial, but obviously it's rewarding.
- 18:47Speaker 3: They would still be doing.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it very wan And and what happens is Scott
- 18:51Speaker 4: gets your chance to serve, to serve our community, and
- 18:54Speaker 4: so you know, service comes right back. And so we
- 18:57Speaker 4: learned that from Churchling, that from you know what what
- 18:59Speaker 4: we now faiths and we just want to say thank
- 19:02Speaker 4: you because it takes all of us. It takes all
- 19:04Speaker 4: of us going together and starting, like I said, with
- 19:07Speaker 4: a small little sacrifice, but at the same time just
- 19:10Speaker 4: giving back to our community, and our community gets right
- 19:12Speaker 4: back so much.
- 19:14Speaker 5: You know, that's so much.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Borrowsville's is that way in this part of the northeast
- 19:19Speaker 2: oclam so even outside of Barlowsville of course, And yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 2: you know, and.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Just amazing, just amazing.
- 19:25Speaker 4: That said, the chemistry here we see that especially now
- 19:29Speaker 4: in the last few years with Scouting putting together the
- 19:32Speaker 4: stack charts and being able to compare numbers, and so
- 19:36Speaker 4: last year we were in membership and finance, right we
- 19:39Speaker 4: ended up being in the top four performing councils in
- 19:43Speaker 4: the nation this council. Out of two hundred and thirty
- 19:46Speaker 4: four councils, we're in the top four performing councils. And
- 19:49Speaker 4: it just starts with the will of this board, the staff,
- 19:52Speaker 4: the volunteers, the organizations all coming together for one single
- 19:55Speaker 4: of purpose and that's to help prepare you for life.
- 19:58Speaker 5: So thank you. That's just amazing. Easiness speech.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I'm rarely it's on the radio show.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It's it's like, but it is amazing and it started
- 20:13Speaker 2: a long time ago in our community. And there are
- 20:16Speaker 2: so many other organizations that are doing this kind of thing, whether.
- 20:21Speaker 5: It's the f f A and four h and sports.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Teams and the Boys and Girls Club United Way. Why
- 20:28Speaker 2: you know, it just goes on and on and on,
- 20:30Speaker 2: and that's one of the great things.
- 20:32Speaker 3: About bartles Field.
- 20:33Speaker 2: But it does take people like you too that that
- 20:37Speaker 2: commit to our youth and create those opportunities for them.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So thank you for that. It's wonderful.
- 20:44Speaker 2: And like we've talked about some of the stuff going on,
- 20:47Speaker 2: I know there's even more. I mean you mentioned you
- 20:49Speaker 2: just the next week. Yeah, yeah, So what else do
- 20:53Speaker 2: we need to let people know? How do they become
- 20:55Speaker 2: involved stuff like that?
- 20:57Speaker 4: So all you have to do is call the office
- 21:00Speaker 4: six nine seven zero, just call us and leave us
- 21:03Speaker 4: a message fast for myself or or summer, you know,

- 21:11Speaker 4: We're always looking for volunteers, We're always looking for growth
- 21:14Speaker 4: and trying to get more locations, more churches, more civilizations
- 21:18Speaker 4: to start to start score correct, ready.
- 21:23Speaker 3: To exactly start to organize the troop.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Exactly exactly, and it takes and it takes six months.
- 21:29Speaker 4: It takes three to six months to get a unit
- 21:32Speaker 4: going in scouting. And so now's a perfect time, you.
