- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's up to already, welcome in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's that time of week, no availability.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: Today, which we threw back on Wednesdays, where we'll be during the regular season Wednesdays, and then we'll be talking to you.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Post game here on the Shooters on S.I.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Podcast.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: I right out, hang out here in more.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: We've got the great John Hoover up the night when a boss, how you be.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_02]: How about that rain this week, fellas?
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: One day, before the rest of the year, we got a rain.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I, uh, I was trapped in a tar game, as well as things that I like walked in.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was pretty hazy.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, it's probably gonna rain.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: I spent way too long in the spice aisle about how I got back to the door.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I'm gonna need you.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: New shoes, probably.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that Carson, you back with us.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: You were traveling last week when we potted the Great Carson Field Data Norman.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you did not run into any kind of that when you were, uh, trying to hit the golf course with the pops.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: No, whether it was great up in Missouri, like you guys said in the podcast last week, getting some mental reps in up there, playing some golfs, a great little one day hiatus from the pod, but glad to be back this week.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've got to buckle in, ladies and gentlemen, because we had our first hashtag controversy of camp that was when I would consider much to do about nothing right off the top.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Vinmo Gate has come and gone.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you've been following us on the website or on the Twitter machine or anything like that, open suitors onside.com.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know that on Monday nights,
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: We, after getting back from talk with Bill Beanbow and a bunch of people, I was trying to shut up some dinner and watch primal fear.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: All I wanted to do with my Monday night was sit and kick back and watch some primal fear.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're really enjoying it.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: And about the time we first discover the, let's say, the first pot plot swirl when we learn a little bit about multiple personality disorder.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: I get a text and
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: College football Twitter is a light with an alleged Venmo feed transactions, whatever, a Pokemon quarterback, John Matier.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Some of those talking about quite literally able to sports gambling.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: USC received UCLA from a twenty twenty two all that fun stuff.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: We did some digging.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Look like a real Venmo feed cannot verify anything as far as sports gambling.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We click quickly were informed gentlemen that.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: Jon material had called Oklahoma.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the calm staffers people like that on Monday night had quickly explained.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's not sports gambling.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a college kid.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever seen a bunch of college dudes, Vinmo feeds, you have to put a subject line.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: on these payments on these transactions.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: We put some dumb stuff there.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that was reflected in the fact that Tuesday after practice at about twelve thirty.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jomits here comes out.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: He is a statement.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: If you'd like to read the full statement, open the suitors on s i.com.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: Head over there.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, the gist of it was inside joke, dumb thing to put.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: But I did not sportsgable.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I do not sportsgable.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: I've never sportsgabled.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: uh... and i'm in lots of local home uh... you have to follow the their own statement saying that uh... basically the kicker of the final line is uh... they believe john they've no reason to believe that uh... anything is pending on the investigation for anything like that and basically
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: By Tuesday afternoon, I think we would say this is business as usual.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Who have I missed anything in one of the Dummer rat races that we have run as a society here over the last four to eight hours, which is saying something because in college football, we go through a lot of dumb stuff in the assies.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I think unfortunately you hit all the highlights.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: It is the biggest nothing burger.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think that we've covered that soon as on SI.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's fair to say where somebody tried to make something out of nothing and it turned into this thing where John Mathier and the University of Oklahoma has to issue a statement.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: It was over about twenty four hours.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: It was coming goes like that rainstorm.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: It was here.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was powerful.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was fast and then it was gone.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: It left a lot of not damaged, but everything was wet afterwards.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it felt like.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: It was so stupid.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're probably probably saying right now, why don't you all move on?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: Quit talking about it, but you're gonna love this.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: Being the old guy that I am with a failing memory I'll admit, but the old guy, I do have some context for you.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: This is good.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think the dude's name was Buzz Vader.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: Is that ring about with anybody?
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: His name is James Conrad.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: The year was two thousand and eight and he wrote a story online and and dressed it up put it on put it on a I don't know how you do this he created some kind of page made it look like the Oklahoma
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: And his headline was two Oklahoma quarterbacks arrested for trafficking cocaine.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: Who remembers that?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Tell me your memory.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Here it is.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: James Conrad was his name.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think he went by the internet of, you know, nickname is Bos Vader.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea where he got that.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: But he was a Nebraska fan.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: He lived in Austin, Texas.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: And he cooked up this story.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Sam Bradford and Landry Jones were the two quarterbacks that he said were happy arrested for trafficking cocaine selling cocaine.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: In August, right, right as Terry training camp was going on, you guys, this was the most incredible thing where I'll just like, now what is this for real?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, we're talking early somewhat early days of internet sports writing and internet slew thing and all that stuff.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: We quickly found out that it was a hoax, but not before we asked Bob Stoops about it.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: We had to ask Bob we're doing a media scrum after practice one day and said,
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: Bob, what are your thoughts on this report that came out?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: And he started laughing.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: He literally was laughing like he hadn't heard it.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: And this was his reaction I swear.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: Who?
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: Sam Bradford?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: And who?
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: Landry.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: They started laughing.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: He was Landry Jones.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: No, there's nothing to that, guys.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: He started laughing at our questions about this because it was so impossible.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: Can you imagine Sam Bradford and his personality, right?
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: Trafficking cocaine, Heisenberg or something like that?
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: That was awesome.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: And this is what that reminded me of.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: Just some stupid idiot on the internet.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: And here we go.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I, uh, rhetorical question, more empty calories, cocaine or landry jones.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Never mind.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but when you look at it, Carson, I think the biggest runoff effect for this is going to be we're going to have the job material memorial, VINMOS slide in every freshman onboarding now in every program across the country that hey, VINMOS stuff can be private.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it sounds like John material was a, okay, practice as far as running that thing on Tuesday.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: and like on the actual substance point Carson for like twenty seconds uh... the other uh... who knows this were on the photo bunch on monday night as i was just rolling through like what is there to like right or not right or whatever um... all the other instances that i could find of guys that actually got wrapped up in suspensions things like that we're all stemming from a hey there's a draft king's account with so-and-so's information on it hey there's a bed in gma cat with so-and-so's information not a
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Venmo transaction log which proves nothing because you can put anything on there regards what's happening all that stuff so I guess the ten thousand foot view is I don't think the NCA is the best skating anything if they do we know they're known for their speed so you'll know in twenty four months the biggest thing I guess cars was
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Was this something that you think could have been distraction for Oklahoma?
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: Because on Monday night, it felt like it might be something that lives in the ether for a while.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: And it was pretty much wrapped up by Tuesday afternoon.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: One practice that feels like is all of the reach of this controversy.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've been around John material a decent amount since he's come to campus, but even so it's hard to know how much weight this is going to hold in his head.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say the difference between this and something like that Landry Jones Sam Radford example that who brought up is
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: The screenshots were legitimate.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: John Metersers confirmed that at this point, those were real transactions.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anyone's ever going to know what those actual transactions were for.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been for pizza.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been for anything.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Just college student related.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been related to gambling, but I highly doubt that John Meters would be that dumb to incriminate himself publicly and say, I've been gambling on USC versus UCLA football.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: That just doesn't check out to me.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but as far as distraction wise, it's hard to say just not knowing him as well as his teammates do everything that we've heard about John materialist.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: He is this incredible eater.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't really get wrapped up in the stuff outside of football.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of different from a lot of student athletes in that way.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that boads well for him.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I'm sure he's had plenty conversations with Brent Venables.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: Been our buckle.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe some other higher up people at Oklahoma.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: just kind of getting down to the bottom of it, just clearing everything up.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think it'll impact them too much.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Good though that it happens three weeks before the season rather than one week before the season.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: I will say if he could come out and announce that he was betting on UCLA in that game, it would have only endured himself to Oklahoma fans.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: There are many Oklahoma fans that I think held UCLA tickets in some former fashion for that game.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Also, money line material objectively excellent nickname.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think that basically the knock on effective that is if he plays poorly at a game you'll see the tweets check job materials vid mode transactions if he plays well in the game you'll see the tweets on the Oklahoma side and I think with that
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: We can move on.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, I got one quick little recap for you on this on this on this Conrad guy.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: This is this is from the Oklahoma.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: This is something Barry Tramwell wrote back in two thousand eight.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: This was before Sam's high has been seasoned okay and before Landry is he has he just enrolled he was he hasn't even here yet wasn't even a red true freshman yet
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what Barry Tramel said, and I want you to think about this guy that we're, I'm not, do we need to say his name?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: The dude who did this because I don't think that's his real name.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: The dead skin reporter, a Guadal or whatever.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: This is a very travel route in two thousand eight and it holds true today.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: He comes across as a computer geek who lives in a cyber world talking smack with other college football fans who have left the real world to live in a society that's all keyboard and screen.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: To thousand eight, I'd like to introduce you to two thousand twenty five.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, definitely an iPad kid, whoever, uh, cooked this up on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, I would imagine.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: We did talk to Bill Bean, but I would talk to a couple of interesting guys, Danny Koy, Peyton Bowen, love talk about those guys.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: But first, let's hit the recruiting news and then we will close out with camp and all that fun stuff.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Little bit good, little bit not so good.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of it.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Good, a little bit not so good.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: However, you want to classify it.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do, we just did a nothing burger.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: So let's start with the positive.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: Tuesday on the Pat McBee show, Oklahoma lands four star defensive in Jake Croll who would have transferred into IMG Academy.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: This was Big Time Boys, but we've talked about it a bunch when it comes to this twenty-two-six class.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: The structural just
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: difficulties, Oklahoma is always going to have.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's the first time in twenty seven years.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know you coach us like legitimately entered the seat.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a hot seat.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: What that does to recruiting all that stuff.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Negative recruiting.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: It exists.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: It happens.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma and Texas go heads up and Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss work like also in the room.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: I guess technically just happy to be there.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it was going to kind of be you're you're pitting the two best years of Texas football since Vince Young was on campus versus two really bad years under Brent Vittables one pretty okay years so it slid in there and this was kind of the test.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: two years of relationships from Miguel Shaviths and Britt Venibals versus the Flash of Texas.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Can you a guy in Jake Crow would kind of indicate it?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to see it on the field.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I like Oklahoma.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to see it on the field.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Has seen nothing on the field in gentlemen.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a hat.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, Carson.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: I know that you were watching it for us.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what we classify that as a necklace.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but Oklahoma was picked up and it's a big win for Oklahoma, Carson.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: No, definitely isn't.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was a chain of not a hundred percent sure, though, as far as what he was wearing.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: But obviously, like you said, gigantic commitment, I'd argue, maybe besides Bob Bentley, maybe the biggest commitment in the twenty, twenty-six class for OU.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: And any time you can beat out Texas in this in IELA era, I mean,
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you fans aren't going to want to hear this, but that's, there's a big cell to play for Texas and this day and age between the facilities, the money they produce, how successful they've been the last two seasons.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's an easy cell, admittedly.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that, oh, you after two bad seasons and three years is still able to get a player of cruel capabilities, shows them brim venables, the assistance, the history that, oh, you have still has a lot of credibility with seventeen eight, your eighteen-year-old kids.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it's definitely a big win and I think there's going to be some momentum that comes from somebody like a Jake rule committing Obviously some not so great news on the recruiting front.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: I know we'll get to that in a little bit later, but this defensively especially just huge momentum for the twenty twenty six class Yeah, so
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: As far as the the the pendant or the chain kind of hard to get that message across you point you pull it out like that when you're in a free shot with your family on a split screen with Pat McAfee hard to get exactly what that is that you're pulling out but now that was a good get good win for Oklahoma and you got to do it guys on a on a platform like the Pat McAfee show
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's probably a, I don't know, a million, two million, three million people watching that show at any point in time, who say, why is he messing with college football?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: I want him to talk about the NFL.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're waiting, you know, to get for him to get to the NFL and you're having to go through this recruiting thing.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: First, oh, Oklahoma got a kid.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get onto the NFL.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, there's college fans, college football fans who are saying, wow, this is huge.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Huge.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: So, good move over all for Oklahoma.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I want our Pat Macbeth just done dealing with people from Oklahoma between all the Thunder players that were paraded through post title, all that stuff.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's big and a couple of things exactly what you're saying, Carson, like you've got an offensive and defensive centerpiece of your class now and it's something that Jim now you was talking about as you see media days is
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to try and circle back with some of these guys because breaking news, every program believes in themselves, all that stuff.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, if things don't go well on the field, all these guys are decommetting because you're going through a coaching search.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: And think everyone gets that.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: If things do go well, then you can circle back around and say, you've got bumpantly to spearhead the offense.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Kruhl to spearhead the defense a couple of top one hundred recruits.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to bring a ton of people in for that Michigan game.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you win that, you're going to carry momentum probably into the cotton ball, because I kind of believe if you beat Michigan, you're going to beat Auburn.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: I see those two things being like hand in hand type situation.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's really important there.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's Brett Vinnables.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: We've never really been concerned about the recruiting.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: He has that track record back to his first hit at Oklahoma.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly at Clemson and the only blip in the radar for Oklahoma recruiting, really when you look at it from a class ranking perspective, has been
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: that they're entering a year at this year in twenty six or as a bunch of questions marks and that's tough for everybody to recruit like that unless you're going to be irresponsible thrown around the money.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's huge for me.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'll shave us who's now shown that not only can he win a PJ battle a couple of years ago that was a five star big time thing.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Out recruit Texas here.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to develop that path of armacent Thomas, Ethan Downs.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you could turn Marvin Jones Jr.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: into something he wasn't at Georgia and Florida State, that's going to be something else that they could recruit on.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think too, especially with what happened on Monday night, we'll just talk about here in a second.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is a recruiting battle that Jim Nagy is the GM of where it doesn't mean Oklahoma has to have the largest bid.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: You just have to be in the ballpark.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: We saw that with the Susie Jericho.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: That was not a Nagier recruitment.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy in the trenches, a guy coming off the edge that Jim Nadie Greenlight said, we're not stopping pursue this guy, keep getting after it.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: And while you may have limitations of what you want to do at wide receiver, this is the coaching staff in the front office, aligning to say, yeah, let's do whatever it takes to bring Jake cruel to Norman and get him to commit to Oklahoma.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's really good vibes, especially after Monday night where
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: David Gross commits to Florida.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's a athlete who's going to play a C. Redo.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: You who had you felt like for a long time, all the whispers around that is that Oklahoma feels like they're in a good spot.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: The words that I don't the guinea coach wants to see, which was Steve Wiltfong's report from the father saying they were doing a little negotiating.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think was the exact verbiage.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: On the day he was Nancy's commitment, it ends up being the Florida Gators and
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Who if I think that it coming back to you, this is just like a case of Oklahoma in the transfer portal showed us that they cannot spend it every single position or they will not be forced into spending it every single position and they're not going to overspend it wide receiver and I don't know what else there is to it if Florida wants to get after it like that.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's something that Jim Nagy said over the course of the summer, I guess he was doing interviews here and there before media days.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: And with the with the podcast, the Oklahoma breakdown, or she would have can't remember who he was on.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, is it the triple option that's urban's pod?
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: That was it the new one.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, triple option.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, with every matter.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: he said we're not going to we're not going to just we're not going to go after a guy heavy salary wise right and I L wise or whatever revs revs share wise just because he's got a four star or five star by his name he's got to fit into what we think in terms of salary structure competitiveness heart desire talent you know the culture does he fit culture wise
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, we hear from middle of the summer on that David and gross was basically a silent commit to Oklahoma.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming Oklahoma.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming Oklahoma.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming Oklahoma.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: When it comes time to get down to to the numbers, when it's start talking about how much can you pay him?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: those silent commits have other options nowadays because of the revenue share model because of the NIL model.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: So that's something that if you put those two things together Jim Nagy says we're not going to overspin just because it says four star five star.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: uh... and the simple fact you know that he he wanted to go to you who he likes so you and you know it's twenty twenty five so he might be here next year he might be here next month he might be here in twenty twenty eight right i mean the transfer portal as we always say is always open but
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's where Oklahoma's kind of, I wouldn't say things fell apart.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to pretend to be an insider on this recruitment, but I wouldn't say things fell apart.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was more like he started realizing he had other options.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: He wanted to go to Oklahoma, started realizing he had other options.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: And as we find out on the last day when the negotiations so to speak, kind of manifested themselves, I was said, and he's a Florida Gator.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's how recruiting works now.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think agree with it, disagree with it.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone is more than welcome as always to form around opinions there.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just telling you, like, I'm not expecting the Oklahoma to overspend on like a wide receiver.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like that's a pretty clear directive.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: And Carson, when you look at it, see Wolf Fong had reported
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: earlier this morning that I was about four days ago three days ago Oakland sent an offer out to Braden Allen a current to Lane commit at wide receiver from the Lappier area.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: Fong said this morning that's picking up all that stuff is a click Oklahoma's moving down the line so I think more than anything kind of like the big overarching situation is like when it comes to the state of the program it's a we'll see we'll find out this year they'll put a win total up in that'll tell us all we need to know it feels like
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: whether it be Johnny Gibson whenever he works his way back in here early this year, Satanya, Josiah Martin, Countas, Lewis, whatever it is, we'll find out if in year one kind of running, even though some of this happened in the post
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: are the the winter portal before gymnastics here and then gymnastics came on after the winter portal, but that it's a manifestation of continuation of kind of what they did in the winter portal anyway.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: If they're okay at wide receiver, then you think people are gonna like exhale a little bit, never great to like lose these wide receiver vowels, but it's just it seems like that's the way it goes.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's, yeah, I think the fans are really going to be interested to see how this year's pool of class does, because this is such a different receiver room than it was.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, it's not necessarily a flashy one, either.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: You'll get guys like Gibson as good as he was last year.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: That was at Arkansas Pine Bluff and FCS school, same thing with Giante's Lewis.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And these guys could turn out to be stars.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know Lewis, for example, is really stood out in fall camp.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah Satin, yeah, at Arkansas, he's been really good in fall camp too.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: But there's going to be a lot of questions, and there are obviously already a lot of questions, like who's going to be the main guy?
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Are these guys going to get us out of this lump that we were in last year?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: And Nagi, the people that hired all, or not hired, got all these receivers.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't go for the big flashy players, but it could work out, and it seems like that could be the directive that they're using on the recruiting trail.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: They got Daniel Odom, obviously, who's the consensus for star he's in the class right now.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's supposed to be really good.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: But that's about it and they haven't made it too much of an emphasis, but maybe that's one of those areas that Nike was talking about.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: We want somebody that fits our mold rather than just blindly going after X five star four star player.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I don't think they're going to jump in the deep in with a lot of high school wide receivers when the transfer portals always open.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to supplement.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's a position, I think, where you can supplement a playmaker here, some reliable hands there, that kind of thing.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I definitely get the vibe.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, if we're going to go in for a wider receiver, we better be ten thousand percent sure that they are CD LAN.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that it's got to be nailed on.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: We cannot miss this guy.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: And Jim, now you've seen a lot of great wider receivers come through the senior bowl.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it was kind of interesting.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: We were talking to Bill Beanbowl.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll kind of transition to some of the stuff we got on Monday, pre-Vinmo disaster.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: But Bill Beanbow was talking about the relationship he has with Jim Nagy.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, Jim Nagy is called Bill Beanbow a lot over the last seven or eight years just to be like, so you have another awesome offensive lineman that I like to bring to this eater bowl.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: And Beanbow is kind of like, yeah, man, they go out.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: They find guys for me.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, I would like you to recruit this man.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beanbow's like sick.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds great to me.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm all the way in.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: So we shall see there was going to catch up with the great Bill Beanbow.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: The last time we spoke to him, he had just discovered Netflix.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: And with the whole magic of the world as a Spinger tips, he had said, yeah, I just watched a lot of SVU.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's basically all I do.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: We did not get the update on the Bill Beanbow.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, what he's been watching lately, but we did get a couple of updates on Michael Fassucy and Ryan Foge, the pair of highly touted offensive linemen.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: And listen, if the hype training wasn't already on its way down the tracks,
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to this.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not telling you they're going to start, but they will play.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: That is Bill Beanbow talking about Michael Fassucy and Ryan Focie.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: He went on later on and another answer to be like, listen, I don't.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: He said like five times, I don't keep praise often.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: I promise.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: I really promise I don't keep plays often.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: He prays often, but
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure I've seen guys this young that have this kind of mentality, you've talked about Fassucy.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: He can go out there and get his butt beat by Armace and Thomas and then come straight back to the next draft and be like, good, I want more of that kind of stuff.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: And if you listen to, um, don't come up breakdown from this week, Gaybiker had a great play by play of a moment in practice where Fassucy and Armace were going after it.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: uh... the sushi's helmet pops off games said and and there is some john and for sushi opted for great offensive linemen move objectively done move which was go helmetless head but in the army some time these guys are psychos and i look like a million bucks in john uh... they need to play i know that i know that uh... being both said they will play they need to play
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: Mike, yeah, you're right.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: Um, my take on this is that, uh, Michael Fassuci and his natural talent, his athletic ability, um, his frame, his long term projection as an NFL first round talent.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's raising the the the ceiling.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's raising the ceiling for the entire offensive line room, especially tackles.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's bringing everybody else up.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: You had a guy's this is I'm not going to try out I'll try not to over speak.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'll try not to to be, you know, prisoner of the moment or or get too deep into this, but it was it reminded me of
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: when Adrian Peterson got on campus, and everybody said, that's your next run-and-back, and, you know, Bob Stoops's deal was, I know, but we've got this, these other guys that are college football players that have paid their dues and have been in national championship games.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: And for now, Keywon Jones is our starter, right?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: And by week four, Adrian Peterson was your starter.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's a little bit of what this reminds me of, isn't that you've got a guy who's clearly, when he walks on campus, he's clearly physically
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: the specimen.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's the guy that's the best looking specimen.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: You heard Troy Everett telling stories about sprinting and he beat me bad in sprints or you know, I lost my butt to him when we were racing and stuff like that.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: Ryan Fogell also projects that as well, I think.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: But these are guys who are bringing the rest of the offensive line along with them, not that they're like leading or not that they're like in front, but their presence and their participation in practice and their performance has made everybody else in that room, every other offensive line and stand up and go.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm supposed to look like that.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm supposed to act like that.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm supposed to play like that.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm supposed to perform like that.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: So you hear these stories about when they get tangled up and trash talks are tapping in and temperatures get a little hot.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's a true freshman.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's exactly what you want out of that position.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: No, totally.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: What always worries me about the high end four stars, the five star players is ego, high expectations thinking you're going to be all of that.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: But from what we got talking to those two players and beta and beta and bo.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like that hasn't been an issue since they arrived to Norman.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Both the players seem like they have their heads on straight, foj and Michael Fassuse.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's really
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: kind of going off of what who said it's good for some of these returning linemen to knowing like hey we got these stud freshman you guys have to step up your game or else it kind of is one of those things that just gives you a little bit more competition on the line and after what happened last year with the line eight different starting line ups in the first nine games
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of need that a little bit, and having these two guys who, I don't remember the exact quote, but Beaton Boe pretty much said, for their age, both of them turned to eighteen a couple weeks ago.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: They are the best, more or less the best players that we've ever had walk through here, which when you look at, oh, you produce in guys like Lane Johnson, Trent Williams, the list goes on so deep, and Beaton Boe's pretty much saying, yeah, these guys have everything it takes to be better than those guys.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's got to be uplifting even if they aren't game ones starters.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: You get games like Illinois State Temple.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Those are going to be kind of two experimental games where you can do a lot of different things with the line, see where everybody slots in, what the best combinations are.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's just got to be very encouraging for a U-Fans that after it was such a weak point last year, it has the potential to be a really good this year.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: Quick interjection for you historically speaking, because that's all I got left for me is the history that I've lived covering this program, right?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: On Trent Williams, who's the best offensive tackle of the generation and on Lane Johnson, who's the best right tackle of the past generation?
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: I've eaten both coast one of those guys, but here's what's amazing about it.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: Trent showed up as a three-star freshman from Longview, Texas, whose team never threw the football, right?
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: Malcolm Kelly was on that team and he was a wide receiver and never had any catches.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, he was the only option.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: They ran the football all the time at Longview back then.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Lane Johnson shows up as a quarterback, as a quarterback, and he shifts from left tackle to defensive tackle to right tackle to tie it in, back to tackle.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: And these are, these are generational guys.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: So offensive line can get a little weird when you're evaluating tell them, especially long term.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and it feels like how many times, and not to, you know, pick on guys and stuff like that, but whether it just be what you have to do, the freak you have to be to be that size and also that flexible and what's inside you, you've had guys like a bright walker that that comes in highly touted stuff like that and for whatever reason just never works out on the field.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: It that's the thing that it's like you're saying Carson from the second we talk to those guys and we talked to Fassucy and Bogey all the way back last winter or I guess February is that winter still who cares and in Fassucy is just like the I love bill being both coach me coach me I dare you like please coach me and Ryan Fogey talking about when he was heading to his high school all-star game and they said hey can you play center he's like yeah dog does that mean I get to play football two thumbs up in a guy that recruited the tackle playing guard
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: The way I just look at this team, I feel really good about the defense.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: It truly, to me, feels like the difference between a team that scrapes to eight and four and everything's safe and it's fine and it's stabilized versus a team that could really make some noises.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: What is this offensive line going to be?
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like if you get him jobs here, time to operate, he's going to make plays happen that aren't there.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you give Jade not just a little bit of room, so that he's not having to make shake a guy in the backfield and stuff like that, then that's the spot you want to be.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it goes back to something that who knows is I wrote this like a month and a half to once ago.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: uh... for brit venibals with his job on the line he turned the keys over to a young guy right on the offense bill beanboe i don't think it's like job on the line but this season the staff everything's on the line i'm sorry i i want to see more fissu c and less shake of sex we've seen some shake of sex and i know that bill beanboe said that the first three or four days were his best past set so he's ever seen like great once play guard two thumbs up
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: But that's you, we will guy have been really, really hard on.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beanbo talks about his body's changed, all that stuff.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to keep the betchy and somehow find, Fogia or Eddie Pierlui into the lineup, that's great.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're talking about this team reaching their ceiling, Mike of the Suicy needs to start against LSU.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: If this team's going to reach their ceiling, Eddie Pierlui or Ryan Fogia needs to be one of those guards against Missouri, and I'm totally with it if you want to
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Give him a ton of time against Illinois State and then peel that back a little bit and get's Michigan and give him a little bit more time against Temple and maybe a little bit more time against Auburn and then just really throw him in there against Texas.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not going to freak out if they're not playing a ton of week two, but by the time that second by week rolls round and you're going to Tusk Lucia, if you haven't given those guys plenty of time to
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: raise their level and be big time contributors.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you're just looking at a fine offensive line that's not going to carry you to the places where I know we're talking about save job versus the Oklahoma standard.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're talking about it's Oklahoma, you need to be in a playoff fight because you're just it's Oklahoma, regardless of what happened a year ago.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: But you need to see a lot of Fassusy and probably a lot of foj.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's maybe I'm off base on that.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: But that's just kind of how I look at that because Fassusy and foj, I sound like they are answering the ballot practice here in fall camp.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, those guys need to play your right a lot for them to have the maximum of twenty twenty six.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say those guys have to play a lot in twenty twenty five.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Bill Beanbowl talked a bit about Eddie Pearley.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: He had said basically the aggression's great.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be controlled kind of what Eddie was talking to us about a couple weeks ago when you're pairing that technique.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: He had good stuff to say about sexting and and for that she as we said.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're interested in everything Bill Beanbowl.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome as soon as onside.com hit the football tab scroll a little bit.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's up there.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: You can also hit us up on who's YouTube page at John Hoover Media to search that.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: fired in there and tucked away.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beanbow did talk a little bit about Ben Arbuckle a little bit about Kevin Wilson and he brought out the words that every Oklahoma fan either is like okay I get that or is like I understand what you're saying but
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you could use something different Bill even couched it.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I know you guys are not going to like this.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's asked about Ben Arbuckle, but you're reminds me a lot of Lincoln, really young, great command of everything.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: And as long as Bob Stief doesn't come back, retire, hand the keys over to Ben Arbuckle, and he coaches it USC in five years, I think that everyone's going to be okay with Ben Arbuckle being Lincoln, Riley, two-point-oh, the offensive coordinator, Carson.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, they absolutely would this time Alex Grinch not being the defensive coordinator.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully they could be competent on both sides of the ball.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: But our buckle, I mean, there is rightfully so much juice.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know obviously we talked about this a couple weeks ago on the podcast that he seems so confident at the press conference the day before camp began.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Which I highlighted that's that's what you want to see from someone that is so young coming from a smaller program That's what you want to see not not that you're in over your head not that you're this business like like I was saying preventables I thought it was actually kind of good that he was a little bit on edge that day a little bit more like yeah, this is business our local was so laid back though That's the energy you want to see and that just seems like his personality out there definitely fear so I know that some of the practices we've been to very much
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: Not aggressive, I don't know what the right word is, but very commanding, demanding a lot from his players, which this offense needs after what it had last year.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just really excited to see what kind of unique things this guy brings to OU, whether it is very similar to what we saw at Washington State.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you've got to change some things to have a really, really offense in the SEC.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: It really is a different sport playing a modified mountain west schedule than an SEC schedule, but I'm curious to see what that looks like and I think we're going to pretty good dose of that when they play Illinois State.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: And this feels like what Oklahoma City Thunder fans would feel if Sam Prestey made a comparison to tell us how great.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: Tell us how great someone on the team is currently, right?
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just say, Shay, and uses the analogy of, he reminds me of Kevin Durant.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: You would say, Thunder fans would go, it burns, it burns.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: I know what you mean, but it burns.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: Especially this week.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's been interesting just to see the, uh, I think everyone understands what Bill's saying, right?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, the offense to the Biden, all that stuff.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's still just fighting to see everyone kind of, it, they know what's happening and no one's upset about it, but just a little like a little went.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: So you can tell it will be like, yeah, uh, link it up.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: Bye, man.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Need to clear everything out here.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, I was looking at it and I've done this before with Bill, but I mean, just those Texas tech staffs, he coached alongside Lincoln, obviously, in two different moments, but under my leech with Dana Holgerson, Sunny Dykes, he had Jake Spavodahl's quarterbacks coach when he was at West Virginia.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beanbow, if there's someone that's going to give a review of offensive minds and command of the offense, I'm just going to go ahead and give two thumbs up to Bill Beanbow because he knows what exactly it looks like.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he especially has seen a different phase in the career, right?
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: Lincoln just coming in, calling plays or sunny and Dana being a couple of years on it.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just Bill Beanbow's had a little bit of a charm to life with some of the offenses that he's worked with, but it's also he flipped around.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: Some of those outfits that he's worked with, very, very good, because Bill Beanbow is handing him great offensive lines to work with.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally agree.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Let's flip things over to the other side of the ball.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: If you'd like to, again, we had the bill video up.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: We also talked to Fassucy and VogueJ.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: I sat with Fassucy for about seven and a half minutes.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to see all of that, both Fassucy and VogueJ.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: VogueJ.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: Miguel basically said that guy's going to be a household name here pretty soon.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: Danny looks fantastic.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let me take the half step back though for a guy that just played in a couple of games last year straight up two games.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go around the horn.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: Who first hack at it?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think's like a realistic expectation for a guy like Danny Equia this year?
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is he steps up in and really embraces a role in the steepest for the first time?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he had such a small role last year as a true freshman, but everybody knows, everyone he's ever seen him play or knows his background knows what an incredible athlete he is.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: And when I say athlete, I don't mean big, strong, fast.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's big, strong, fast.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean somebody like, like we've said several times about Jacobi Johnson, right?
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's a division one basketball player basically, right?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: He could play offense, he could play defense.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what Akoya is.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think Akoya, the couple of times that I saw him in high school,
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: Defensive end, tight end, no big deal there, right?
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: Inside linebacker, it's a little bit different.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Wide receiver.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Huh?
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and punter.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: The guy was all over the field literally, and he was the best at every position he was playing.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's got that kind of talent, that kind of versatility, that kind of just explosiveness at various positions where he could fill in as a spinner defensive end where he comes in in the past-resh situation over the, over the center guard gap, for instance.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: or he's an edge rusher, you know, traditional edge rusher off the edge of our Mason Thomas needs a break.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: Or, hey, guess what?
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: You've lost two linebackers to a sprained ankle this game.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to have to go back and get some reps there.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's athletic enough to do that.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying they're training him to do that, but he's athletic enough and has enough experience in a high school setting.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: to be able to say, coach, I can get you three snaps or six snaps of this drive of linebacker, if you need me to.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's that good.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's why Brent says, pound for pound the best athlete on the team.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, and I'd like to see him have a larger role this year and kind of explore some of the things he can contribute.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, kind of just going off of what who said I think.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think what I've struggled to wrap my head around when we've talked about PJ, Taylor one, all these guys that the coaches are praising, they've talked about their improvement.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: How are they going to get playing time with how good this defensive in-group is?
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: Which that's, believe me, that's a good problem to have with Armace and Thomas, Marvin Jones Jr.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: Assuming he lives up to what he can live up to.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I agree with who of the versatility should be something that is utilized for him because, athletically, it's all there.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: Everything that we know about Danny O'Coye is that he is one of the better athletes.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think Brent said he is maybe pound for pound the best athlete on the team.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: So getting that kind of praise, maybe trying out at a linebacker position.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: Something like that, see what this guy can do even if he's not getting those first team defensive end reps.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but again, really just interested to see how the reps are split up this year between him, PJ's, hey, we're wine.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: We've heard so much.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: We've written so much about Taylor wine at this point about how he's gotten so much better.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but what I'd like to hear what really encouraged me talking to Danny.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: was how much he said his mental game learning about the sport is improved because like we said the physical stuff is gifts there those have always been there since he's been at OU but he talked about how you learn from Ethan Downs or Mason Thomas some of the other big defensive players on OU's roster and he said that's just helped his understanding of the game grows so much so that encourages me that whenever it's hard to say what his rules gonna look like whenever he gets caught upon he's gonna be good
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm just curious like of all the guys on the defensive line.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: Are my sentences and every down guy don't we know that nine and a half sex last year all that but is it simply going to be that Danny and Taylor wine have taken enough steps forward to only be like
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, this will come a run defense should be really good.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: Again, Jane Jackson and Dominic Williams are going to ensure that on early downs.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: No one's going to be running Oklahoma.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: So does that mean that Danny a Koye, he's going to have a lot of third lungs and we only see him on third and long and everybody just knows what's coming at you.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: How much does Marvin Jones Jr.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: are going to be able to beat an every down guy versus an early down guy, just because you know he'll be in the right spot.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like he's kind of fixed up here in camp.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like what those combinations look like just because last year, Oklahoma kind of had the rare since twenty eleven, just purely because I got bored going back in pulling data.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that half the time a little under half the time they've had a pair of guys that have had five or more sacks.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, though, was the rare moment where Grayson Holtton is that second guy.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, our Mason had nine and a half.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: Grayson Holtton had five.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Usually, we're talking about a, like, in twenty one Isaiah Thomas Nick Beetle, Isaiah had eight Nick had seven and Isaiah was going inside out.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, playing all over the place.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: She talked about the days of
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: you know, like, Jalen Redmond and Ronnie Perkins in twenty-nineteen both those guys getting over five sacks.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think it'd be good to see that the last time you had three guys over the five sack mark was twenty-fifteen striker tap or Charles Walker.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: They have to go back to when Brent Minnelles was a defensive coordinator back closer to the twenty-ten.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just kind of interested to see how that's going to play out.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is it going to be the local one that has the depth, but the depth is in like,
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: This guy plays first and second down.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: This guy's at third down specialist stuff like that or have those guys grown enough with like a PJ in a Marvin Jones.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, and a couple of three down guys.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: A little extra credit.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just we'll toss this over to who who do you have been off the top of the dome to know the last time Oklahoma had a double digit sack getter in this deep.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: They're extra.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, Shriker never hit ten.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in fourteen, Obo also got nine in sixteen.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna say, Obo.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: How about, um, went to the Patriots.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: I was just thinking about him a couple days ago.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: Gino Grisson?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: No, Ronnie, everything about Ronnie Perkins, maybe.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: No, Gino Grisson played for the Patriots there for a couple of years.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: He had, he had the big touchdown in the sugar bowl against Alabama.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's go all the way back to two thousand and nine.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a marking that we often use is maybe the last like elite, elite, ultimate deep, but they were kind of putting that spot.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: The DOE defense was last year.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Bill with eleven sacks coming off.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: ripping off.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: So here would be my, like number one, Armace and Thomas needs to break that streak this year and the number two, who else is coming in off the edge to help everybody.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that would be huge, which is this ultimate difference of line.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: What's still about to the co-cooblick, best defensive line in the country, best defensive line in the SEC, at least, stuff like that.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's great to not be able to get, you know, moved in the running game, but to take this thing to the next level, they're going to need to be able to hunt down opposing quarterbacks and help out a young secondary, even though it sounds like those guys, the secondary performed really well.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: Frank, Anderson Frank Alexander Frank Alexander.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, also played, I think for the Cowboys for a little bit, he would have been on my list of guesses before we got all the way back to Jeremy Bealwell.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's it.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a hot minute and it's no coincidence.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the moment the Britman wills leaves, we're starting to go like, oh, there are a couple of years where it's just one guy gets to five sacks or stuff.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like that.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about the young piece in the secondary, a lot gentlemen.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's easy to forget about maybe one of the other former five star recruits on this defense, Peyton Bowen.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to Peyton on Monday as well.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I was telling Eddie and Bob this on radio this morning.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Peyton Bowen's that guy for me that he's going to have to graduate before I quit Peyton Bowen before I just have him done with the believing that Peyton Bowen's going to come in and be an impact player.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: The big thing I think from what he was talking about is that again, he was dealing with the foot all year last year he played in all thirteen games.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: He was not close to a hundred percent still.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: He only had two less tackles than he did.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: his freshman season and Carson he was talking about on one hand really really hard to like just sit out the spring and just say I get it I'm gonna sit over here and heat a lot but how important that's been because it's really been since his junior year of high school that he's been fully healthy as he kind of battles wrenchy powers for that other safety spot alongside Robert Spears Jennings.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think I really think mentally and physically there's a lot of benefits and not playing during the spring for a guy like Peyton Bowling because then you kind of start to just have those negative thoughts that negative self talk of oh I'm an injury prone player I'm this I'm that and I'm not sure I I was in that scrum with you at Peyton Bowling I was I think interviewing Carson Kent at that point but I don't know enough about his mental to know if he is someone that would internalize something like that but Peyton Bowling I
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think after an off-season, I'm not playing a whole lot, not playing in the spring.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a lot of benefit that can kind of come in reinstalling some of that confidence, like, hey, I am really good at this sport.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: I was a five-star group for a reason.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: Me and my brother now have this chemistry on this defense.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: That can be a really good, obviously, with E.E.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: and E.L.I.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: Bowen, receiving freshman all-american honors last year.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of good that can be done it, and obviously, he's going to be a big player in this defense.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: Now that he's healthy, I think we can see a big playmaker.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's so good at this at the game of football.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's so reliable.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: Peyton Bowen is into for him to fill in behind that in that spot behind Billy Bowman.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's a huge opportunity for a very seamless transition for Brent Venables and the Oklahoma defense because he's so smart.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_02]: He might have legit.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: He might have the highest.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: I football like you on the on the entire defense.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: So he's just so smart and he gets everything.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: He throws something at him and Brent says he picks it up immediately.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: pretty pretty important for him to be back and healthy like this and also if you're talking about a young secondary to it something that Peyton said as well that I'd asked him like just how much more instinctual how much faster things going he's like that the mental part of it never been like a big huge issue it's just that his freshman year they were moving them around she'd uh
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: safety, all that stuff.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: And now he, because of that, he learned the whole defense that he said, so if a Kindle Daniels turns around to me, who's not played at three years in this defense is like, what do I got?
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: Payton can just say, ham right there.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: That stuff.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with, especially if you're rolling through
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: uh... young corners like uh... dvon jordan in court and gillery and and your mind to come on on his side of the field should be an easy hey you can turn to payton boon payton boon knows exactly where you need to be where he needs to be and and he talked about too that uh... that's been a big piece of this off season that there are a bunch of guys that watched dany statsman billy boon and lead the defense and everyone's doing it their own way but uh... having a bunch of guys to watch them
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: be the example of leadership has been good for the steepest it certainly sounds like things continue to go well for the Oklahoma defense throughout spring football we had the other big news item of the week come down the AP poll preseason a people we will give all of our predictions on the world famous prediction special
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: for the sooner's on a side podcast as we always say you will never find a more accurate prediction show we've certainly not had CFP participants go down in literal week one based off of how we have predicted things so we'll do a little bit of that but it was the general ap's turn
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is very, very similar to the coaches poll.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma in this poll, eight teeth in the AP poll.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: They came in unofficially at twenty six in the coaches poll.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: That means every year since two thousand the suitors have been in the poll.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's their second longest streak in program history.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: I believe creeping up on their other one.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was at twenty nine years in a row was the previous streak.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: So somewhere in there my number maybe one or two years off.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: So you got that Michigan was at number fourteen.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma and South Carolina are tied for the
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: Longest streak of gates against teams ranked in the preseason top twenty five that makes sense starting at Texas, Oklahoma plays five straight South Carolina plays five straight once they enter SEC play that'll move and shake all that stuff.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: The schedules top we all knew this.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just further reinforcement, I suppose, but there you go, we had that come down.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: Who have even any other news and nuggets on the APP?
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: I know they were, you were the historian doing some APP poll researches.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: Not to the APP poll, really matters in the pre-season, especially, but hey, it's numbers, it's history, and it just shows you're by your trends.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's always, that's the word.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to use trends.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's always an indicator.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_02]: The AP preseason poll is always an indicator.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: And every year you see, you know, the previous, I think it was Dennis Dodd or Brett McMurphy or somebody coming out saying national writers saying, here's a, a little history every year.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, twenty two years in a row, a team has started in the top ten and finished unranked.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that happens.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely happens.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: These are anomalies and we're rolling the dice on a preseason, you know, returning starters and now transfer portal arrivals and all that.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_02]: But it's also something like seven years in a row, the national championship, the national champion has been crowned after starting the season, the preseason in the top seven or higher, like seven years in a row or top five or higher, something like that.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's some mathematical matrix there where the national champion every year
- 51:45[SPEAKER_02]: has come from the top of the AP pole, preseason poll.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_02]: So you can't tell me it doesn't mean nothing.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: Or that's like a triple negative.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_02]: You can't tell me it doesn't mean anything.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's say, uh, one of those things that, is it the Bible?
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: Is it the endobio?
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, but, uh, your national champion probably coming from out of that top six or seven.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations to the Texas Longhorns.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: They had two distinctions on Monday.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: First time in program history, they were preseason number one.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: Also, they became the first preseason number one to be an underdog leading into week one.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're still time for that line to move and all that stuff, but the number three ranked Ohio State.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: But guys,
- 52:24[SPEAKER_02]: uh... there was some movement and out there point and half favorites when uh... the show over well over a hundred years of football and everybody has been put out these blue bloodless i think that forty put one out this week
- 52:36[SPEAKER_02]: Texas is one of college football's eight blue bloods and it's not you can't it's undeniable.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot debate that Texas is one of the top eight historic upper.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: They've never been number one in the preseason that is shocking to me.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: How do you call yourself a blue blood?
- 52:52[SPEAKER_02]: How do you say you're this?
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: when you've never been preseason number one.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_02]: And since nineteen thirty six, well since nineteen what sixty, I guess is when the preseason poll started.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, congrats, congrats to Texas hats off.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_02]: Holy cow.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't have thought that.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's a poor returns for a blue one, but you know that, you know, that's a lot of money to be never to never have a preseason number one team has a lot of money spent on various things.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: We can go to our resident A&M grad thoughts on the Texas long one.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those things that it is weird to see them at that number.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: After since two thousand five, this has been a disappointing program.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: I obviously, I agree with what who said blue blood program, a ton of history, but they may be not too astramatic of a level.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of falling into that Nebraska territory of
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: All this money spent.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: All of this history and not a whole lot to show for it.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, oh, you hasn't won a nattice since two thousand sure, but look at all their big twelve titles.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: They've won.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: Look at all their double digit wins seasons.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: Since two thousand five, UT really hasn't done that except for the last two years.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 54:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little odd.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I had by obviously didn't have a vote in this.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's hard to bet against a team like Ohio State.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the national title.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, quarterback questions.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_00]: But that's a talent and team led by a really good football coach.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's hard to say that.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: the preseason AP top twenty five means a whole lot, especially for a team like Oklahoma that has high ceiling low before.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of teams in the rankings that if I look for example, seventeen nineteen Kansas State Texas A&M.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like those are both teams with higher floors and lower ceilings.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it's easier to put those teams like, okay, Seventeen for Kansas State.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: That makes a lot of sense.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: Nineteen for Anim.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: That makes a lot of sense.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, use a team that they could be topped in by the end of the year.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: They could be way out of the rankings at the end of the year with all the different ways that this season could go.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: So many questions.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: So from an OU perspective,
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: I actually get it that they're ranked in one poll and they're not ranked in the other.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: It makes a lot of sense to me.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we have twelve regular season games in front of us to shake all that out.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's the beauty of the sport.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: Preseason rankings don't really mean a whole lot.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is a byproduct, the latest byproduct of having a guy with the last name of Manning as your quarterback.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_02]: Archie, I'm not going to say he's overrated, but he hasn't done anything.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: And now it all of a sudden, Texas now, Texas long launch for the first time in a hundred and twenty fifty years of history, whatever, preseason number one.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's because it's part of the Arch Manning hype train.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying he's overrated.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_02]: He might be great.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: He might be the best Manning of the mall.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: But we don't know because he hasn't done anything yet.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to see, and I'm not saying like, I'm doubting the Texas offensive line.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like that, but the CSR region has brought the way back from what Texas has been as far as consistency in a two year situation.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you graduated a lot of those guys from part of the Pancake Bacter.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Remember when NIL opened up in Texas wisely said, we need to invest in a line of scrimmage that that's what's been lacking.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's one thing to develop those guys through now.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's another thing to show.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're able to stack it and replenish that's what if you want to get to the level that Alabama was and that Georgia is not that stuff.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: It becomes a you've got to have three guys waiting the wings or just as impressive as that.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's the next task for me for Texas is like you've shown that you can make it to a college football playoff.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: You've shown that you can
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, mix it up and all that stuff.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now you've got to replace that generation of guys and stay at that really high level.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's something Bob Stoops was really, really good at for years and years and years.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: So we will see there from one.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you upon it.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_01]: Can we do a brief check in on another one.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just wait before we get out.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Auburn.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: All of our Auburn friends that are out there is you breeze get to make it to the Georgia game.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: This has been one of for me the worst off seasons from just a coach saying stuff at the podium.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not talking about like the Dave Miranda like coach saying stuff at the podium from the Texas title.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, coaches convention.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: So we hand, he frees openly admit at SEC Media Day.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then he doubled down on this when Auburn regroup that he told us to fence some coordinated or like, hey, let's simplify some things because we need to build Jackson Arnold's confidence up.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have like the biggest issue with that.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: I also would not be caught dead and saying that out loud in front of a microphone, certainly not at media day.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, it's only media people there.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: Then
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: He was asked about play calling yesterday, and he basically said, yeah, we're going to Jimmy at the duties.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: We got one guy that's doing our first down strategy.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_01]: We've got another guy that's doing our third down play calling strategy.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_01]: Second down was just not addressed.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: I guess it doesn't really matter.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: He frees has the lead over rule at any point whatsoever.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: Gentlemen, let me, let me rephrase their schedule in a way that I think that let's all think about this.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a big, big year for Jackson Arnold.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: Hufei's is on the same kind of hot seat that Brett Minable says.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: Jackson, a guy that needs confidence to be rebuilt.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: These are the defensive minds.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's think about it this way, not just teams and names.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: These are the defensive coordinators that Hufei's with his seven cooks in the kitchen strategy plus confidence Jackson Arnold.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's simplify things.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: He is at a Dave Miranda defense in week one.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: They then have Cupcake, Cupcake.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_01]: He is then at a Brent Vendibles defense in week four at a Mike Elco defense in week five, the by week and then he hosts a Kirby smart defense in week six or at week seven after the buy.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you're at a Randa
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: at Venables at Elco by week hosting Kirby Smart.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if we're building like the five or six best defensive coordinators of the last ten years, all four of those guys are going to be on it and we don't have clarity in the play calling and we're dumbing down the scout team.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_01]: Not even the scout team, the ones when you're good.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is gonna be a disaster for opera.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: I would be stunned if they walked out of this with more than they're gonna get their two cupcake wins.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're going three and three.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't see it boys.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was yesterday or day before that he came out and said this that Derek Nix is going to call plays on first down and Kent Austin is going to call plays on second down.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: They have new titles first down strategy coach for play calling third down strategy coach for play calling.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_02]: He did say that for the most part he was going to have the authority to overrule first down and third down also.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_02]: Hugh Fries might be calling play some cell phone second down.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_02]: You might have three.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: Jackson Hardle might have three different play collars in his ear on the course of one drive.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: My question is this, if there's a defensive penalty, right, and you're maybe you're hoping that it gets declined, or if you're the other guy, you're hoping that gets accepted.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_02]: So you can call the next play, or it's maybe you don't have to call the next play.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_02]: What a disaster.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_02]: What an absolute object disaster.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_02]: This is gonna be, and by the way, you're talking about Auburn.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_02]: We just talked about the AP poll.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_02]: School record for Auburn this week, preseason poll, fifty-fifth consecutive week in the AP poll that they have been unranked.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_02]: They just said a new school record.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I wonder why that happened.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's, yeah, Auburn, I think they're a weird thing for me because even before these recent comments by Hugh Freeze, I've not been buying the hype of they're going to be magically this great team.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they brought in an awesome receiving court.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_00]: One of the best in college football hands down.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson, Arnold, he has to prove himself.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_00]: They have a good line.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: So Jackson, Arnold has all the tools.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's discouraging to hear everything that Hugh Fries has been saying, though, about having to dumb down certain things.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: Auburn, I mean, this is not just a big season for Jackson Ornland.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's a big season for the program.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: You look at how deep the SEC is and the combination has between traditional blue bloods like Bama, Georgia, OU, Texas, and then schools that are kind of money pits like Tennessee, and M. But you kind of have to be one of those two things to be good in this conference.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: And Auburn, I mean, they have some good history.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_00]: They want a national championship with Cam Newton.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_00]: They have not sustained that success.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: They've, they've frankly been bad under a few freeze.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're kind of in danger of kind of reaching a level like Mississippi State, like some success in the twenty-tins early, but how are they going to keep up with the rest of the competition in this stacked conference?
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it worries me.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: It worries me for their program.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously having to go through a new coach after this season would not be ideal, but he freezes by the date, seeming like he's not going to be their long-term guy.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: Good luck to all of our friends on the planes.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_01]: We enjoyed our trip last year.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_01]: We welcome you to open arms to Norman America here in week four.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking Mississippi State, family, back on the menu.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: Good job.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_01]: Two thumbs up everybody involved there and we'll leave it at that.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know what this reminds me of who the Auburn situation?
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is if you had three Ted roofs on one staff to just basically be like, yeah, Ted's called the defense.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's not.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_01]: Ted roof is not called the defense.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_02]: Is this, is this desperation or is it delegation, right?
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_02]: You call plays on first down.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: You call plays on third down.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_02]: We'll figure out second down at some point.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's desperation.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's trying to delegate, but now this, this is disorganization and desperation at its worst.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's, uh, I can't wait to see it.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't have to wait because Friday night of week one, uh, that is going to be two weeks from Friday.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_01]: So we're sixteen days out from Auburn, making the track down to wake up.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get, uh, Auburn and Baylor on night one.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get Georgia Tech in Colorado.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about Georgia Tech next week because they're head to the cost from all play up.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: You heard it here first.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_01]: But they will need to go back.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, if you go back and look at Jackson Arnold's third down efficiency last year, how's that at all fair for your third down coach?
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_02]: To get that, that's your quarterback.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's not going to work.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_01]: Auburn Auburn Auburn.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_01]: The the the fast food moguls are going to have to be cash in some checks.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_01]: I fear or arriving some checks here come November.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's all the damage quite literally damage that we can do today.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, we'll be back next week.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_01]: While I'll tell you why George Tech and Clemson will rematch in the ACC championship game, Haynes King is sleeping at Bobby on stadium right now, which I mean, John material.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_01]: your move.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not sleeping at the Switzer Center, do you care about football?
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_01]: We will have our prediction special.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_01]: We will predict Oklahoma's record.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: Officially we'll go on the record.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll pick all the conference shape chip games.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_01]: As of last year, I'm not going to make us do a full college football plan app, but we'll pick our group of five representative.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, everything that happens in Norman, they've got to scrimmage this week, their situational stuff.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_01]: They'll get the young bucks scrummonching out there before they split things off into first team, second team, scout team, all that fun stuff.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we'll be on top of all that.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_01]: We got interviews on Friday.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_01]: So we back out on the practice field on Friday.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_01]: So look for those to start to hit the site.
