- 0:03Speaker 2: Hands to Hester and Hester.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Yep, got it.
- 0:06Speaker 4: Five out of five.
- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to a natty to carrying each
- 0:10Speaker 1: other on the air.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Flynn is back to throw.
- 0:12Speaker 5: For the end zone ball.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Cane Studio. It's Off the Bench.
- 0:19Speaker 6: I can't stand it.
- 0:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Welcome back in our number three of OTB. It is Tuesday.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It is 9 a.m. So you know what that means.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Our guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans dot football joins us
- 0:57Speaker 3: now to talk a little New Orleans Saints. Nicholas, how
- 1:00Speaker 3: are we doing this week, sir?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Fellas doing great. Is that Flynn? Flynn, you aren't walking
- 1:06Speaker 2: out today.
- 1:07Speaker 3: But I was gone for one week. One week. Yeah, buddy.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But it was like, I come on, I see you,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you flip me off and walk out the.
- 1:15Speaker 7: Room, basically.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you did.
- 1:18Speaker 8: Sorry, I had a big-time event at the school for
- 1:21Speaker 8: my third graders.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Had a random Tuesday pep rally. Believable story. It was.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It was pretty random. Pep rally at Tuesday at 9 a.m.
- 1:28Speaker 3: It was pretty random, Tuesday pep rally.
- 1:31Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Hey, we're all here, though.
- 1:33Speaker 7: We're all here.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Hey, guess what, Nick? The NFL season starts tomorrow. We've
- 1:39Speaker 3: got Patriots and Seahawks in Seattle. Then in Australia, you've
- 1:43Speaker 3: got 49ers and Rams. And then we've got a full
- 1:45Speaker 3: slate on Sunday, including the New Orleans Saints taking on
- 1:48Speaker 3: the Detroit Lions. Cannot wait. It's been a long offseason.
- 1:54Speaker 3: A lot of different movement for the New Orleans Saints.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Some exciting movement. Draft, we feel like it went pretty well.
- 2:03Speaker 3: You go out to training camp, you're like, maybe this
- 2:05Speaker 3: team's actually going to be pretty good. In fact, yesterday
- 2:08Speaker 3: over on my NFL show, I picked the Saints to
- 2:12Speaker 3: win the South.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I can see it. Look, I think
- 2:16Speaker 2: they actually have a shot this weekend, and I know
- 2:17Speaker 2: it's a little outlandish to say that, but the Lions
- 2:20Speaker 2: are missing both their safeties. I just think that there
- 2:22Speaker 2: might be something there that gives you a chance to
- 2:25Speaker 2: maybe open things up, take advantage.
- 2:27Speaker 7: Of that little bit of unknowingness.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Like, Avante Maddox, they're talking about possibly playing safety this week.
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know, he played, he was a corner for the Eagles.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Like I remember drew going against him and I think
- 2:37Speaker 2: the saints tried to sign him once, but like, I
- 2:40Speaker 2: think there's just some, some possibility here that possibly you
- 2:43Speaker 2: could take advantage of that. The lions were bad at
- 2:47Speaker 2: covering seams last year. Juwan's a good seam route runner.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I mean, I just think there's a couple of things
- 2:51Speaker 2: here that, that line up decently for them to where
- 2:54Speaker 2: they have a shot. I think it's six and a
- 2:55Speaker 2: half right now. I think they're off. Like, I think
- 2:58Speaker 2: it's going to be closer than that. And you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: I think it's the saints actually have a chance in
- 3:01Speaker 2: this game. they obviously got to show what they can do, but, um,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I I'm not as scared of them as I would
- 3:08Speaker 2: have been. I mean, like not having Kirby Joseph and
- 3:11Speaker 2: Brian branches, like it's a really big deal. Um, and yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I mean, I guess we got to see what the
- 3:16Speaker 2: lions are too. Um, I think a lot of their
- 3:19Speaker 2: reputation is Ben Johnson and we're two years removed from that.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And last year they weren't the Ben Johnson lions.
- 3:25Speaker 7: They got it. They got to show they can do it.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Obviously I have a lot of good weapons, but, um,
- 3:29Speaker 2: You know, they got a pet sing now from he
- 3:31Speaker 2: was in Arizona, Philly before.
- 3:32Speaker 7: Like, we got to see. We got to see what
- 3:33Speaker 7: they can do.
- 3:34Speaker 9: Right.
- 3:35Speaker 7: So I think they got a lot to prove, just
- 3:36Speaker 7: like the Saints do. So I think it's going to
- 3:38Speaker 7: be closer than six and a half.
- 3:39Speaker 8: Nick, I think the if the Saints want a chance
- 3:42Speaker 8: to to beat the Lions, it's going.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I mean, the Lions are good.
- 3:45Speaker 8: I think we are all talking about we've we think
- 3:47Speaker 8: Jared Goff might be a sleeper MVP candidate around here.
- 3:52Speaker 8: The weapons they have on offense is really great. So
- 3:54Speaker 8: in order to beat them, Tyler Shuck is going to
- 3:57Speaker 8: have to have a hell of a game. And if
- 3:59Speaker 8: they're not playing their two safeties, then it gives them
- 4:01Speaker 8: a better opportunity for that. But we've seen Tyler Shuck
- 4:05Speaker 8: practice clips. You've seen him every day almost, in training
- 4:09Speaker 8: camp at least. What should Saints fans expect out of
- 4:14Speaker 8: Tyler Shuck? Just because we haven't really seen him. We've
- 4:17Speaker 8: heard clips. We've seen you talk about him. We've seen reports.
- 4:19Speaker 8: But what should we expect week one?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Man, day 11 at camp, I would have been like,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, I don't know. We're going to kind of
- 4:25Speaker 2: see what it looks like. And then they had all
- 4:28Speaker 2: the joint practices and the way he finished camp, I
- 4:31Speaker 2: thought was....
- 4:32Speaker 7: It was extremely good. Like, I want to be... I
- 4:35Speaker 7: don't want to use too big of words here.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It was extremely good how he finished camp, but... he
- 4:40Speaker 2: was arguably, you know, the best player on the field
- 4:42Speaker 2: against Jacksonville was either him or, or a lobby.
- 4:45Speaker 7: That's the playoff team.
- 4:46Speaker 2: He was phenomenal against the Cowboys through one pick in that. So,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, it wasn't a perfectly clean day, but he,
- 4:53Speaker 2: he was outstanding against Dallas and then very, very solid
- 4:58Speaker 2: against the Rams. And, you know, like I, Sometimes you
- 5:01Speaker 2: got to heat check yourself. You're looking at a team.
- 5:03Speaker 2: You wonder if you're too close and you're seeing things,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know, too, too up close, or maybe you're, you're
- 5:07Speaker 2: overanalyzing or seeing things that aren't real. Well, like I,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I happen to be in the same place as a
- 5:13Speaker 2: Whitworth after that Rams practice. And he was talking about
- 5:16Speaker 2: the saints offense and shock and them and, and, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 2: the same positive tone. So, you know, I, I think
- 5:21Speaker 2: someone on the other side kind of saw it the
- 5:23Speaker 2: same way. The two lane practice, he hit a couple
- 5:26Speaker 2: like just ridiculous throws. I'm sure you guys seen the
- 5:29Speaker 2: clips going around. I think he looks ready to roll.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It just kind of comes down to, you know, I
- 5:35Speaker 2: think for them, what they got.
- 5:36Speaker 7: To prove is the situational stuff.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Like people are sick of hearing me talk about opening
- 5:39Speaker 2: jobs from 1.11 points on those, uh, you know, 14
- 5:43Speaker 2: to 17 didn't get points last year.
- 5:46Speaker 7: Like that's something that has to be better.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I think they got to be better on, um, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 2: first and second down overall, there were way too many
- 5:52Speaker 2: third and long situations. Red zone's got to get better.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So a lot of that situational stuff has to, has
- 5:57Speaker 2: to improve. And there's things you can see in practice,
- 6:00Speaker 2: but I think those things specifically, like when you get
- 6:02Speaker 2: into a game, like I think red zone is a
- 6:03Speaker 2: little bit different than red zone practice. I think, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 2: an opening drive in a game is a little bit
- 6:09Speaker 2: different than an opening drive in training camp.
- 6:12Speaker 7: So, um, Those are the things where I feel like
- 6:14Speaker 7: they're going to have to prove it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: But I think those things also show there's a lot
- 6:17Speaker 2: of room for improvement for this offense overall. So, I mean,
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think, you know, to go to Jake's point, like
- 6:22Speaker 2: if you're picking them to win the South, like if
- 6:23Speaker 2: you're choosing positively on a couple of those things, I
- 6:26Speaker 2: think it becomes... extremely possible, especially when you're talking about
- 6:30Speaker 2: Tua and, you know, the Bucs defense kind of needing,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, some improvements.
- 6:34Speaker 7: Carolina, I don't believe in them.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So if the Saints can improve a couple things, you know,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I think they have a shot. But I feel like
- 6:40Speaker 2: probably all four teams in the South feel like we
- 6:42Speaker 2: improved two things. We're winning this very soft division.
- 6:45Speaker 3: You have to go right about that. Now, if I
- 6:47Speaker 3: was to ask you over a year ago, if you
- 6:50Speaker 3: take a look at last year's team, right, and they
- 6:53Speaker 3: finished hot, but obviously did not start that way. What
- 6:56Speaker 3: position group would you say got the biggest upgrade here
- 6:59Speaker 3: in the offseason of what it was a year ago
- 7:01Speaker 3: to what it is now before you take on the Lions?
- 7:05Speaker 2: I wish I could say wide receiver, but the guy
- 7:07Speaker 2: changing that math is not on the field right now.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Is the offensive line overstating it? I feel like David
- 7:14Speaker 2: Edwards is a huge deal. I mean, he's the only
- 7:17Speaker 2: addition there. Their depth got worse, so I don't know
- 7:20Speaker 2: if it's the actual answer, but... He's the person that
- 7:24Speaker 2: kind of makes me look at things a little bit
- 7:27Speaker 2: differently overall, but it would have to be wide receiver
- 7:30Speaker 2: or tight end could be the other answer, but I
- 7:33Speaker 2: just don't feel like Delp's ready to go yet. Fancy
- 7:35Speaker 2: improvement over tight end two from last year. Man, it's
- 7:40Speaker 2: got to be wide receiver because you take Jordan Tyson
- 7:42Speaker 2: out of that mix and I still feel okay about.
- 7:44Speaker 7: That group right now. And it shouldn't feel that way.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And, you know, that's because of Baring and Bryce Lance
- 7:48Speaker 2: and those guys. But, you know, I just think the
- 7:51Speaker 2: offense overall is fantastic. but there are concerns of depth.
- 7:55Speaker 2: The O-line depth is extremely worrisome to me. You're an
- 8:00Speaker 2: injury away from maybe feeling like a complete disaster. I
- 8:04Speaker 2: don't know if I feel great about any of those
- 8:06Speaker 2: guys going in a game right now. I think Jeremiah
- 8:08Speaker 2: Wright's going to be really good, but would he be
- 8:10Speaker 2: really good on Sunday?
- 8:11Speaker 7: I don't know. So, yeah, I think I'd go with
- 8:15Speaker 7: wide receiver on that one.
- 8:17Speaker 8: Nick, one thing we really haven't discussed a whole heck
- 8:20Speaker 8: of a lot during training camp, because we're sitting there,
- 8:23Speaker 8: we're watching players, we're judging stats, we're judging the way
- 8:25Speaker 8: people look, injuries to players. One thing we really haven't
- 8:28Speaker 8: talked about is Kellen Moore, coaching staff, second year with
- 8:33Speaker 8: a second-year quarterback, offensive-minded, of course. We see the struggles
- 8:38Speaker 8: the Eagles have had since he has left. So what
- 8:42Speaker 8: kind of improvement do you think you've seen from him
- 8:46Speaker 8: as far as running a team right running a practice
- 8:49Speaker 8: the organizational so like in preseason even this uh this
- 8:53Speaker 8: year like the management of of the game clock management
- 8:58Speaker 8: like you think that they've how much more prepared is
- 9:01Speaker 8: is he as a head coach and his staff around
- 9:04Speaker 8: him uh to prepare him and also to support him
- 9:07Speaker 8: during the game uh how much more prepared are they
- 9:09Speaker 8: a year or two.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I think that's to be determined, honestly, like some of the,
- 9:14Speaker 2: the operational stuff that was still spotty throughout preseason, throughout
- 9:18Speaker 2: training camp, just some of these weird little penalties and, and,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you know, not being able to line up right coming
- 9:23Speaker 2: out of a timeout in one preseason game. Like that
- 9:26Speaker 2: was kind of tough, but I think overall you see a,
- 9:30Speaker 2: like a way more confident person. You see someone that
- 9:33Speaker 2: feels like, you know, Hey, I went through this.
- 9:35Speaker 7: I know how to do it.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I know how to answer questions. I know how to communicate. Um,
- 9:40Speaker 2: And it doesn't feel I think there was a nervousness
- 9:43Speaker 2: to him a little bit last year that that just
- 9:45Speaker 2: kind of isn't there now. And I think, you know,
- 9:46Speaker 2: players and all that stuff feel that, too. You know,
- 9:50Speaker 2: one thing they really talk about, like behind the scenes,
- 9:53Speaker 2: is his ability to actually build culture. And they they
- 9:56Speaker 2: think that they have a shot at like actually being
- 9:58Speaker 2: a good team this year because of that, because.
- 10:00Speaker 7: Like how together they are.
- 10:01Speaker 2: And, you know, Colin's given credit for that by all
- 10:03Speaker 2: the players about like all the effort.
- 10:05Speaker 7: He puts into that.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And, you know, they, they turn mini camp into like
- 10:09Speaker 2: these competitive things where there's like four sub teams competing
- 10:12Speaker 2: in different categories, uh, stuff throughout and they're keeping score,
- 10:15Speaker 2: like just to kind of bridge those gaps and, you know,
- 10:19Speaker 2: it's almost like, I don't know if you guys watch
- 10:21Speaker 2: Ted Lasso, and I hate to cite Ted Lasso, but, like,
- 10:23Speaker 2: Ted Lasso takes the team out to trivia night, like,
- 10:26Speaker 2: in the most recent episode, because there's these, like, little factions. Like,
- 10:29Speaker 2: I think Kellen's aware of not allowing that stuff to
- 10:31Speaker 2: form to make sure that, you know, everybody knows each
- 10:35Speaker 2: other across the aisle and all that stuff. And I
- 10:38Speaker 2: think all that stuff kind of pays off, too. So, like,
- 10:40Speaker 2: if they were to start 0-2, I don't think they'd fracture.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And they very easily could start 0-2 against the Lions
- 10:45Speaker 2: and Ravens. But I think those are the areas where
- 10:49Speaker 2: I think he knows where to invest in things a
- 10:51Speaker 2: little bit more now, the staff overall, like if you're
- 10:54Speaker 2: looking for, for the offsetting negative, they did a really
- 10:58Speaker 2: good job with soft tissue injuries last year.
- 11:00Speaker 7: And they're doing a really bad job with soft tissue
- 11:02Speaker 7: injuries this year.
- 11:03Speaker 2: So that would be, you know, the flip side of it,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but yeah, the game management, like he, he, he has
- 11:08Speaker 2: a new game management, um, coach in, in, in that role.
- 11:13Speaker 2: It was, uh, Linehan last year. I remember we were
- 11:15Speaker 2: talking about that last year, like, Hey, who's, who's doing this. Um,
- 11:18Speaker 2: They have someone new in that role this year. So,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you know, that's an area that they looked at and
- 11:23Speaker 2: realized could be better too. So we'll see if the
- 11:25Speaker 2: fruits of the labor pay off and, you know, the
- 11:26Speaker 2: investment in those things change things. But, you know, I
- 11:30Speaker 2: think his awareness of like, this wasn't good.
- 11:32Speaker 7: I need to fix it.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The honesty with himself, like not having ego about things.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I think those are all strengths of his. So I
- 11:40Speaker 2: just think, I think a more confident coach overall.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Nick, what do you think? Caden Ellis' role is going
- 11:46Speaker 3: to be on this defense because he's a different player
- 11:50Speaker 3: than DeMario Davis. Now, he's a good player, and obviously
- 11:53Speaker 3: he gave the Saints headaches when they played against him,
- 11:55Speaker 3: but he's not DeMario Davis. He's not the same linebacker,
- 11:58Speaker 3: and maybe it's not a one-for-one replacement. I think he's
- 12:01Speaker 3: playing a different role, but we know what he can
- 12:03Speaker 3: do getting after the quarterback, and if you don't have
- 12:05Speaker 3: Cam to start the year, you've got Chase Young, you've
- 12:08Speaker 3: got Granderson, you've got other edge rushers, but I feel
- 12:11Speaker 3: like he's going to be a big part of the
- 12:12Speaker 3: rush package this certainly until you get Cam Jordan back.
- 12:16Speaker 3: So what do you expect his role to be in
- 12:17Speaker 3: the defense?
- 12:19Speaker 2: I think he's going to kind of be like the
- 12:20Speaker 2: featured player of the defense. And, you know, one of
- 12:23Speaker 2: the things that they hated about Dennis Allen's scheme is
- 12:26Speaker 2: that he, he didn't really ever feature players. It was
- 12:29Speaker 2: just really about the scheme and your, your place in it.
- 12:31Speaker 2: And one of the things Staley does is like plays
- 12:33Speaker 2: to those strengths, make sure that, you know, he he's
- 12:36Speaker 2: highlighting his guys and, and putting them in those roles and,
- 12:40Speaker 2: I think the entire vision of Caden Ellis was to
- 12:43Speaker 2: get him to be just a matchup problem and someone
- 12:47Speaker 2: that you're kind of trying to guess.
- 12:49Speaker 7: There's no tells with him.
- 12:51Speaker 2: He could be down on the line on one stop,
- 12:53Speaker 2: be back in space on another. That's where they kind
- 12:56Speaker 2: of want him to be. We say chess piece way
- 12:59Speaker 2: too much, but it's the easiest way to describe his
- 13:02Speaker 2: role and what I think they want to do with him.
- 13:06Speaker 7: I was talking to Shuck.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Maybe two weeks ago, like after a practice, it's kind
- 13:10Speaker 2: of about the defense and how they were doing and,
- 13:12Speaker 2: you know, all this stuff. And like Ellis was the
- 13:14Speaker 2: guy he pointed out. He was just like, man, he
- 13:16Speaker 2: makes it so hard to read the defense, like to
- 13:19Speaker 2: figure out what they're doing with him. And like, he's
- 13:21Speaker 2: been the biggest problem on that side. And, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 2: I just think that that's kind of the vision for him.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And he was the handpicked guy. Like they got one
- 13:27Speaker 2: addition on defense and it was Caden Ellis. Like that
- 13:30Speaker 2: was a player Staley wanted. And I think that allows
- 13:33Speaker 2: him to just kind of open up. everything up and
- 13:35Speaker 2: kind of get a little bit more creative with, with
- 13:37Speaker 2: what they're doing. And, you know, he's one guy that
- 13:39Speaker 2: can do three different things. And I think that just
- 13:42Speaker 2: really opens up your options. And then, you know, it
- 13:44Speaker 2: allows you to get creative with like, you know, all
- 13:46Speaker 2: your linebackers, like, what are you doing with Danny Stutzman?
- 13:48Speaker 2: You know, what are your best matchups? I think it
- 13:50Speaker 2: just gives you a lot of versatility and a lot
- 13:52Speaker 2: of things. And I think he's also going to help that,
- 13:55Speaker 2: that group overall. Like, I think if you look at
- 13:58Speaker 2: the names of how they're, they're getting sacks and pressures,
- 14:01Speaker 2: obviously Chase Young stands out.
- 14:04Speaker 7: I think the whole.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Like is way better than the parts. And I, and
- 14:07Speaker 2: I think he's part of that too. Like, I think
- 14:09Speaker 2: they're going to have the stack numbers at the end
- 14:10Speaker 2: of the year. I don't know that you're going to
- 14:12Speaker 2: have a ton of beasts, but I think you got
- 14:13Speaker 2: a lot of guys that can maybe get three or four.
- 14:15Speaker 7: And I think he's one of those guys.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Nick, do you play fantasy football?
- 14:20Speaker 2: I've been aggressively dropping out of leagues. I'm still in one.
- 14:24Speaker 3: It's the one that matters, right?
- 14:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Who's your first round pick?
- 14:28Speaker 7: I got jazzed on last night. First pick.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Okay. Oh, number one, overall pick. And you are, you're
- 14:33Speaker 3: saying your first pick.
- 14:35Speaker 7: My first pick.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You must have been like six or seven? Yeah, yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 3: All right, not a big deal. All right, I had
- 14:43Speaker 3: the first pick in the OTB Fantasy League, and I
- 14:46Speaker 3: went B. John Robinson. How do you feel about that?
- 14:49Speaker 7: I feel like it's a great pick.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like it's a great pick.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Yeah, we just, you know, for the Saints. Obviously, they're
- 14:55Speaker 3: going to be so dynamic. Saints' portion of this conversation is, though,
- 14:59Speaker 3: their quarterback's going to be so bad, he's going to
- 15:01Speaker 3: get all the carries, though. And they're just going to
- 15:03Speaker 3: throw it to him in the flats because their quarterbacks
- 15:04Speaker 3: can't really do much else, right? I actually forgot who
- 15:07Speaker 3: I picked.
- 15:08Speaker 7: How do you guys feel about Penick saying he wasn't ready?
- 15:11Speaker 3: Not shocked by it because I was at the camp
- 15:13Speaker 3: and he only did 7-on-7 and 1-on-1. Really, I don't
- 15:17Speaker 3: even know if they did many 1-on-1s, more like routes
- 15:19Speaker 3: on air and 7-on-7. So I was like, I know
- 15:21Speaker 3: it's like mid-August, but you can't expect that guy to
- 15:25Speaker 3: be ready for September. Like if you're not going to accelerate, obviously,
- 15:29Speaker 3: like his rehab, Now, I went to Kansas City, Nick,
- 15:32Speaker 3: and Patrick Mahomes, who tore the ACL and the LCL
- 15:36Speaker 3: in December, was moving around like a 25-year-old. So I
- 15:40Speaker 3: don't know, and I know Pennix has done it three
- 15:43Speaker 3: times now. I don't know how their rehab went. I
- 15:45Speaker 3: don't know who did the surgery. But whoever did Patrick
- 15:47Speaker 3: Mahomes' surgery and how he attacked rehab, that's the way
- 15:51Speaker 3: that you need to always do it.
- 15:53Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, it's interesting.
- 15:55Speaker 2: The honesty, like I saw a lot of people kind
- 15:57Speaker 2: of killing him for it, and it's like, but you
- 15:58Speaker 2: also want someone to be honest enough to say, hey,
- 16:00Speaker 2: I can't help the team right now. So it's kind
- 16:01Speaker 2: of a double-edged sword if you're in that position.
- 16:03Speaker 8: People want athletes to say something all the time, and
- 16:07Speaker 8: they want them to be truthful and have an opinion,
- 16:10Speaker 8: and then as soon as they're truthful and have an opinion,
- 16:12Speaker 8: they're like, oh, well, let's go snowboard.
- 16:13Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Like, if you go out there and play, they'd be like,
- 16:16Speaker 2: why would he put himself out there? But then if
- 16:18Speaker 2: you're like, hey, I can't go out there, like, this
- 16:19Speaker 2: guy sucks.
- 16:20Speaker 3: It's the worst. Nick, you're the man. We appreciate it.
- 16:27Speaker 3: It is finally, finally here. It is game week in
- 16:30Speaker 3: the NFL. I think we're all looking forward to seeing
- 16:32Speaker 3: how the Saints handle the Lions and the Ravens. You know,
- 16:35Speaker 3: two tougher opponents to start the season. Going to be
- 16:37Speaker 3: a great gauge of where the Saints are. And we
- 16:39Speaker 3: always appreciate it. We'll catch up with you next week, sir. Yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 3: take it easy, guys. All right, Nick Underhill, NewOrleans.Football, good
- 16:45Speaker 3: enough to join us every single Tuesday morning here on OTB.
- 16:50Speaker 3: All right, we will step away. We'll maybe talk a
- 16:52Speaker 3: little NFL. Obviously, college heavy with the LSU performance that
- 16:55Speaker 3: they have, but it is the opening week. We have
- 16:58Speaker 3: National Football League games. You don't throw an extra football
- 17:02Speaker 3: on that. NFL tomorrow. Stop. Gross. Something like Greg McElroy
- 17:08Speaker 3: would say. Okay. All right, pal. Chase Daniels, is it?
- 17:12Speaker 3: He probably would have. That would have got me to stop.
- 17:16Speaker 3: All right, noted. Tomorrow, though, by the way. Tomorrow, Seahawks
- 17:23Speaker 3: Patriots cannot wait for that. All right, we'll get into
- 17:26Speaker 3: a little Saints discussion when we come back here on OTB.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Off the bench. All right, go to TrashRangers.com. TrashRangers.com. Residential, commercial, trash, pickup, service, roll-off, dumpsters. Well,
- 17:38Speaker 3: guess what? They've got three different sizes to choose from.
- 17:40Speaker 3: And if you don't know what size you need, give
- 17:42Speaker 3: them a call. Hey, here's what I've got. Here's what
- 17:44Speaker 3: I'm expecting to do. They're going to make sure you
- 17:46Speaker 3: have the right one. But look, if you undersell it,
- 17:48Speaker 3: it's okay. They're going to bring, like, they're going to
- 17:50Speaker 3: come out. They're going to bring a truck. They're going
- 17:52Speaker 3: to pick it up. They're going to empty your dumpster.
- 17:53Speaker 3: They're going to bring your dumpster back, put it right
- 17:54Speaker 3: where it was. It's going to be empty. It's an
- 17:56Speaker 3: amazing service that they do over at Trash Rangers. I'm
- 17:59Speaker 3: sure Flynn's had to do it before in his roll-off dumpster.
- 18:02Speaker 3: We had one. They're an incredible, incredible convenience. For you,
- 18:07Speaker 3: if you're doing any kind of project at your home
- 18:09Speaker 3: or your business, go to TrashRangers.com.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Yeah, they're the best in the business. It's not particularly
- 18:14Speaker 8: close when it comes to trash removal. Yep, Trash Rangers,
- 18:17Speaker 8: they're the best when it's the residential pickup. When it's
- 18:20Speaker 8: commercial pickup, you know I love those roll-off dumpsters. Three
- 18:23Speaker 8: sizes to choose from. You got that flat rate pricing.
- 18:26Speaker 8: They're the best customer service, the best pickup schedule, the best.
- 18:29Speaker 8: Go to TrashRangers.com.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Lady love never smiles. So lend your love to me
- 18:49Speaker 5: a while. Do with me what you will. Break the spell,
- 18:57Speaker 5: take your fill.
- 18:58Speaker 3: On and on we rode the storm. The flames died
- 19:06Speaker 3: and the fire's gone.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn. Presented
- 19:11Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 19:30Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in. Live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Of course, every single Tuesday brought to you by our
- 19:40Speaker 3: friends over at Community Steel. CommunitySteelCo.com right here in Gonzales, Louisiana.
- 19:46Speaker 3: That is Louisiana Steel Buildings. sheeting, components, CommunitySteelCo.com bringing you
- 19:53Speaker 3: every single Tuesday here on OTB. We do have NFL
- 20:01Speaker 3: action tomorrow. Cannot wait. Remember to set those fantasy lineups,
- 20:08Speaker 3: by the way. If you have a Patriot or a
- 20:10Speaker 3: Seahawk or a Ram and 49er a little earlier in
- 20:13Speaker 3: the week, I like, I like you forget to set
- 20:17Speaker 3: your line up week one. You got problems.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Like just chalk it up for the rest of this.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Because like it's already set. Yeah. My heart's not in it.
- 20:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 3: The first people you draft is if anybody in here
- 20:30Speaker 3: was to forget it'd be you. Well, it's week one.
- 20:33Speaker 5: No.
- 20:36Speaker 8: When the injuries start to occur, the bye weeks start
- 20:39Speaker 8: to happen, that's where rubber meets the road. That's where
- 20:46Speaker 8: I see who's in it.
- 20:47Speaker 3: That's when usually my records go down. You got no depth.
- 20:52Speaker 3: You're good until injuries happen.
- 20:55Speaker 8: Well, no, I just forget to replace them.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Last year, I had like four guys on a bye week.
- 21:03Speaker 3: We used to play together with Sotil. And you were
- 21:05Speaker 3: pretty good. You were pretty good about keeping up with
- 21:07Speaker 3: that league, the Yahoo League we used to do. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 3: that's before I discovered sports betting. And cards. And cards.
- 21:15Speaker 8: True.
- 21:17Speaker 3: You should have figured out what a line was.
- 21:20Speaker 6: What a real rush was. Like fantasy will give you
- 21:25Speaker 6: a rush, but nothing will give you a rush like
- 21:26Speaker 6: that pontoon parlay hitting.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Not one thing.
- 21:30Speaker 6: Cash money, baby.
- 21:31Speaker 3: You're like, am I eating this week? We'll depend on it.
- 21:35Speaker 8: I also really enjoy the daily fantasy stuff with NFL.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Oh, me too. It's very fun. And it's very, like,
- 21:42Speaker 3: small barrier of entry. Yeah, like 20 bucks.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Like $ 3. I don't know anything about that. It's really fun.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Me and Jackson, we put one together.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Like, actually, like. Me and Huck will do them. Or
- 21:56Speaker 3: maybe we'll, like, I'll get, like, two $ 10 ones and we'll, like,
- 21:58Speaker 3: go against each other.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 3: He usually beats me because he knows the NFL. Well,
- 22:01Speaker 3: he used to before I moved over to the NFL channel.
- 22:04Speaker 6: I'm going to survive relief this year.
- 22:06Speaker 8: Are you?
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Those are fun. I had a game last year.
- 22:10Speaker 8: It was one of the Sunday night ones where you have, like,
- 22:15Speaker 8: all flex people.
- 22:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 3: You have a captain.
- 22:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 8: And with, like, 30 seconds left in the game. It
- 22:23Speaker 8: was the Sunday night, so it was a prime time.
- 22:25Speaker 8: I was winning like $ 150, 000 on my thing. And then
- 22:30Speaker 8: a sack happened, and then a long field goal.
- 22:34Speaker 3: And it knocked me down.
- 22:36Speaker 8: I won like $ 100. Which is a great investment on
- 22:42Speaker 8: the $ 15.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I had one of those about two years ago. When
- 22:45Speaker 3: you're only picking six people, you can have the same
- 22:50Speaker 3: lineup as a lot of other people.
- 22:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Finished it was like you know huge payday but i
- 22:55Speaker 3: finished and i finished first and like i just saw
- 22:58Speaker 3: first i'm like that's from like 25 grand or something
- 23:01Speaker 3: yeah well i guess like 20 something people had the
- 23:06Speaker 3: same lineup and i ended up winning like 813 okay
- 23:09Speaker 3: it's still a good payday up like 25 dollars yeah
- 23:12Speaker 3: it's fantastic but like when i saw first like my
- 23:14Speaker 3: heart like a little bit it's like did you just.
- 23:16Speaker 8: Win 25 000 but it is like you'll see those
- 23:18Speaker 8: guys that that hit a first place on a Monday
- 23:21Speaker 8: night football or Thursday or Sunday night, like the primetime
- 23:23Speaker 8: games and don't win a million dollars.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Oh, no doubt.
- 23:26Speaker 8: And they picked like the most crazy lineup.
- 23:28Speaker 3: They had Kenneth Gainwell as their captain, you know, and
- 23:32Speaker 3: he like, he went off. Yeah. And the other team's
- 23:34Speaker 3: defense who had three pick sixes or something.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Yes.
- 23:37Speaker 3: So you can't really make the lineup in those that
- 23:39Speaker 3: you assume like.
- 23:41Speaker 8: You got to throw some wild cards in there. Got
- 23:43Speaker 8: those wild cards in there. Um, I mean, it's make
- 23:49Speaker 8: or break with a Captain Pig, but I do. The
- 23:50Speaker 8: daily fantasy stuff is fun. It's exhilarating. It's a different
- 23:54Speaker 8: lineup every single week. You can do early games, the
- 23:58Speaker 8: afternoon games, the evening games, all of the above combination.
- 24:03Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 24:05Speaker 8: Just paying for entertainment because it's relatively inexpensive.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I've never done that. As much fantasy stuff as I've done.
- 24:18Speaker 3: You should. You can put Tyler Shuck as your quarterback
- 24:23Speaker 3: this week. On your daily fantasy. I mean, two safeties
- 24:28Speaker 3: out for the Lions.
- 24:29Speaker 8: I didn't say you didn't. Traditionally, no, I probably wouldn't have.
- 24:35Speaker 8: We'll see how much he costs. You get a $ 50, 000
- 24:36Speaker 8: salary cap, Taylor. Basically, you're the GM. $ 50, 000.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Salary cap. What am I going to do? Sign a
- 24:48Speaker 3: long snapper?
- 24:50Speaker 7: Nope.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Can't even do that. I see what you're trying to
- 24:58Speaker 3: do there, though. I am shocked that Taylor hadn't done that.
- 25:06Speaker 3: It seems like right up his alley, too. It does.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I've always, it's one of those things.
- 25:10Speaker 8: Have you done the daily? I know you're doing the survivor.
- 25:12Speaker 8: Survivor's fun.
- 25:13Speaker 6: I've never done the daily fantasy and I've never done
- 25:15Speaker 6: the survivor before. This is my first year.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Is it one and done or two and done?
- 25:19Speaker 6: We gave ourselves two.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 6: We gave ourselves one revive so you can get it
- 25:24Speaker 6: wrong once.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Okay. A revive. That means you got to like buy
- 25:28Speaker 3: back in.
- 25:29Speaker 6: No, I think it just like lets you.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Two lives. Two lives. Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 6: But we just did like a small buy in. It
- 25:36Speaker 6: was just me and my cousins and my brother. I
- 25:42Speaker 6: already picked my first one. I forget who it was.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Let me see. I am just going to go with
- 25:47Speaker 3: whoever's playing the Raiders or the Cardinals. Or the Dolphins.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Or the Dolphins. I don't know. The Dolphins, though.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Titans.
- 25:53Speaker 3: The Dolphins got, like, young players that I think are
- 25:56Speaker 3: going to be really good. Boy, 18 can always pop off.
- 25:59Speaker 3: And they're just going to play hard, I think. Or
- 26:04Speaker 3: the Cardinals and the Raiders. I just don't know.
- 26:06Speaker 6: I picked Steelers this week because they play the Falcons.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Good pick. Hey, Rog. Got to go off. MVP?
- 26:24Speaker 6: Me thinks.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Me thinks. He's got a chance. I don't know. I
- 26:30Speaker 3: don't know about that one.
- 26:33Speaker 7: Later. I just.
- 26:36Speaker 3: You hate good stories. Just being honest. You hate good stories.
- 26:38Speaker 6: He's a hater.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Just being honest.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Somebody said that Ole Miss, Bama Gump in the chat said,
- 26:45Speaker 6: Ole Miss killed my parlay. Should have listened to us.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Should have listened to us. You would have won some money.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Why would you take Ole Miss? In any aspect of life.
- 26:57Speaker 3: We basically said that.
- 26:58Speaker 6: We've been telling you all offseason.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Too, that they're overrated. Louisville should have won, too.
- 27:02Speaker 6: They lost that game.
- 27:03Speaker 3: They made too many mistakes.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Like Louisville lost it themselves.
- 27:07Speaker 9: Yeah, because the snap over the punter's head gave them
- 27:09Speaker 9: the ball at the 10. That was their only touchdown
- 27:11Speaker 9: in the first half. He knows missed a wide open
- 27:14Speaker 9: guy down the seam for a touchdown in.
- 27:15Speaker 3: The first half.
- 27:16Speaker 6: It did take him a second to settle in. But
- 27:18Speaker 6: once he did, I was.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Like, whoa. Late hit on Trinidad out of bounds.
- 27:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Trinidad won that court case. You know, a lot of
- 27:28Speaker 3: things going against Louisville.
- 27:28Speaker 6: So much.
- 27:29Speaker 3: A lot of things. Louisville's battling everything on Sunday night.
- 27:33Speaker 6: They did take out the bell cow, though.
- 27:35Speaker 3: They took out the bell cow? They did. Like, immediately.
- 27:38Speaker 6: He tried to come back in.
- 27:40Speaker 3: For a while. How about JT Lindsay being their backup?
- 27:43Speaker 3: I know. I didn't even, like, I forgot.
- 27:46Speaker 6: I forgot about him.
- 27:46Speaker 3: I knew, but I forgot.
- 27:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 27:51Speaker 6: You don't know who JT Lindsay is.
- 27:52Speaker 9: He was a four-star from Alexandria. He played here one year.
- 27:56Speaker 10: I know.
- 27:58Speaker 3: No, you didn't. I thought he was.
- 28:03Speaker 6: You're a pretender.
- 28:04Speaker 3: What position is JT Lindsey, Matt? I'm running back, obviously. Yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 3: he knew because he said that. Yeah, we gave a
- 28:10Speaker 3: little hint.
- 28:12Speaker 6: No, guys.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yes. From Alexandria. Yeah, what high school did he go to? Alexandria.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Alexandria what?
- 28:22Speaker 7: 94.7.
- 28:22Speaker 3: All right, well played. Well played. That's the affiliate, if
- 28:32Speaker 3: you're wondering. That we're on down in LA. He went
- 28:36Speaker 3: to Ash. Alexandria Senior High. Is that the initials? Everybody
- 28:43Speaker 3: calls it Ash. He just said it. It just took
- 28:48Speaker 3: me a second. Relax, everybody. Golly, how'd you play quarterback? Alright,
- 28:52Speaker 3: we will step away.
- 28:54Speaker 6: His brain went all to that. Oh my gosh.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Just oof. A couple of o's.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Oof.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Hey, if you're going to say something wrong,
- 29:06Speaker 3: at least look good while you do it. You know
- 29:08Speaker 3: what I mean? Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We'll take a break.
- 29:10Speaker 3: More OTB when we come back. Off the bench. All right,
- 29:13Speaker 3: go to PelicanRoof.com, the website for Pelican roofing, because everybody

- 29:38Speaker 3: what do you mean nothing? You set up a consultation,

- 29:47Speaker 3: then you know you're dealing with a five-star roofing company.

- 29:56Speaker 3: Those aren't cherry-picked. Those come in as they come in.

- 30:32Speaker 1: by Community Steel. I'm in love.

- 30:37Speaker 9: Give me time.

- 31:40Speaker 8: to go there. You had something. But this is just
- 31:42Speaker 8: a quick, just a little statement. I keep watching film
- 31:44Speaker 8: during the break. I still haven't seen the bad guard
- 31:47Speaker 8: play that people are talking about.
- 31:49Speaker 3: That's just what Lane said at the presser yesterday. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 3: and then Stanford Steve said it. And then I know
- 31:53Speaker 3: the– I hadn't seen it yet. You think maybe– I
- 31:57Speaker 3: think maybe since, like, the head coach said it and
- 31:59Speaker 3: then people were like, I'm just going to take that
- 32:01Speaker 3: and kind of run with it. You know what I mean?
- 32:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe so.
- 32:04Speaker 8: And, like, look, that's his job to keep people humble.
- 32:08Speaker 8: And I saw a couple of maybe missed blocks. I
- 32:11Speaker 8: saw one missed block by the right guard. Our guy
- 32:15Speaker 8: broke the tackle and still made, like, 20 yards.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Yeah. But in the pass protection, I hadn't seen it.
- 32:21Speaker 8: Like, I'm watching one here where Leavitt scrambles, but the
- 32:25Speaker 8: guards got him locked up pretty good.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I feel like even in some of his scrambles, it
- 32:29Speaker 3: was more like a coverage situation. Like nobody was open
- 32:32Speaker 3: down the field. And so he stepped up and stepped out.
- 32:35Speaker 7: Yep.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And then tried to create a play. Not necessarily that
- 32:38Speaker 3: it was crashing down on him.
- 32:39Speaker 7: Yep.
- 32:40Speaker 8: So I'm sure I'm still in the, like at the
- 32:42Speaker 8: end of the second quarter and they've already run like
- 32:44Speaker 8: a billion plays.
- 32:45Speaker 3: So I'm sure I'll find it. Okay. Here's one.
- 32:49Speaker 8: You got to pass that off a little better, but
- 32:51Speaker 8: it's still a completion for 40. Oh man.
- 32:56Speaker 3: You're going to play some really good defensive lines, and
- 32:58Speaker 3: that's probably your head coach just saying, hey, it's going
- 33:02Speaker 3: to have to be next level when you play those teams.
- 33:05Speaker 3: I'm sure that's some of the conversation there. Okay, well, question.
- 33:10Speaker 6: Forgive me if y'all talked about it, because y'all know
- 33:12Speaker 6: I disassociate sometimes.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Sure, yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 6: I brought up yesterday. It's so much show.
- 33:18Speaker 3: The most. Just the most show.
- 33:20Speaker 6: I brought up yesterday during a break about the receivers
- 33:24Speaker 6: and Like, I felt like I didn't see what I
- 33:26Speaker 6: thought I was going to see from them. So, thoughts?
- 33:31Speaker 3: Me thinks.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Drops.
- 33:32Speaker 3: A lot of drops.
- 33:35Speaker 6: I just feel like I saw as much as I
- 33:38Speaker 6: thought I was going to see, too.
- 33:39Speaker 3: From the game. Yeah. Just watching the game live. I was....
- 33:46Speaker 8: From all the position groups on offense. So, you got
- 33:48Speaker 8: your running backs, offensive line, your quarterback, and the receivers.
- 33:52Speaker 7: The.
- 33:55Speaker 3: The receiver group probably didn't stick out as much as
- 33:58Speaker 3: the others.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:59Speaker 8: I think they made some good plays. Watching the film,
- 34:00Speaker 8: I see some really nice routes being run.
- 34:02Speaker 6: You said Jackson Harris earlier?
- 34:04Speaker 8: Yeah, he ran some nice routes. I know, like, the
- 34:06Speaker 8: production wasn't there. But there's so many. I was also
- 34:10Speaker 8: watching the game, like, looking at the roster, like, okay,
- 34:13Speaker 8: who was that?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Who was that? And I was trying to, like, do
- 34:16Speaker 3: it in real time. Like, who's number three? Who's number six? Blah, blah, blah.
- 34:20Speaker 3: And that was tough.
- 34:21Speaker 8: But they just didn't, like, stick out as much as making, like, big, big, like,
- 34:28Speaker 8: really impressive plays as far as, like, the result on
- 34:31Speaker 8: the field.
- 34:32Speaker 6: I know they were running the ball a whole lot.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Man, they did. But I didn't come away thinking, like, oh, man,
- 34:38Speaker 3: we got a problem.
- 34:39Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I don't think we have a problem. I
- 34:41Speaker 6: just didn't see what I thought I was going to
- 34:43Speaker 6: see from it.
- 34:44Speaker 3: I didn't really know what I was going to see.
- 34:46Speaker 6: If I'm being nitpicky.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't really know what I was going to
- 34:48Speaker 3: see from that group. I didn't know who was going
- 34:50Speaker 3: to start. Like, I went up to... to Brandon before
- 34:53Speaker 3: the game. I was like, so if you were to
- 34:54Speaker 3: say three guys were starting off the step jar, like
- 34:58Speaker 3: who would you say it's going to be?
- 34:59Speaker 9: Well, we, we talked about it Jake last week before
- 35:01Speaker 9: the game of you got, you brought in a lot
- 35:03Speaker 9: of guys.
- 35:04Speaker 3: You have a lot of bodies there. You don't have
- 35:06Speaker 3: that one stud, at least not right now, at least
- 35:08Speaker 3: not on paper.
- 35:09Speaker 9: Cause we were talking about who's going to step up
- 35:11Speaker 9: and separate themselves and be that number one guy.
- 35:13Speaker 3: So like, Yeah. Like, did we see what we wanted
- 35:17Speaker 3: to see? No, I didn't. But, like, also, you hope.
- 35:21Speaker 9: That as the season goes along, one of those guys
- 35:22Speaker 9: separates themselves as, like, the guy.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Like, maybe it's Trey Wilson. Maybe it's Winnie Watkins. I
- 35:27Speaker 3: didn't see the guy.
- 35:29Speaker 8: Right.
- 35:29Speaker 3: But you don't have to have the guy. You didn't
- 35:31Speaker 3: in Ole Miss. I was about to say, I don't
- 35:32Speaker 3: think this offense has to have the guy.
- 35:34Speaker 6: The guy is Dylan Jones.
- 35:35Speaker 7: Yes.
- 35:36Speaker 3: I mean, that's a. Just like you on Lacey was
- 35:39Speaker 3: the guy for Ole Miss. Well, and again, Matt, like
- 35:42Speaker 3: people are probably. Prize pig.
- 35:44Speaker 9: People are probably tired of hearing me saying it, but
- 35:46Speaker 9: like it matters. Six receivers last year, 400 yards or more,
- 35:50Speaker 9: no thousand yard guy at Ole Miss.
- 35:52Speaker 3: That's what Lane had. Five with 600 and more yards, right?
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 35:54Speaker 9: And then Winston Watkins was a sixth guy covering a 400.
- 35:57Speaker 9: So like that's, that's what, yeah, to your point, that's
- 35:59Speaker 9: what he did a year ago. He didn't have that,
- 36:01Speaker 9: that stud first round pick wide receiver.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I don't think you have. I did see some really
- 36:09Speaker 3: good routes run.
- 36:11Speaker 8: You don't necessarily get the ball when you run a
- 36:12Speaker 8: good route just because he's thrown it to somebody else or.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Scramble, whatever. They should run good routes all the time.
- 36:18Speaker 3: I'm excited about.
- 36:18Speaker 6: This receiver group. I'm not criticizing. It's just an observation.
- 36:22Speaker 8: It was one of those, yeah. There were so many
- 36:25Speaker 8: good things that came out of the game. We didn't
- 36:29Speaker 8: know what to expect at the wide receiver group going in.
- 36:31Speaker 8: I still don't know if we know exactly what to
- 36:33Speaker 8: expect going forward. I know it's going to be good.
- 36:37Speaker 8: Just like we said, I don't think you're going to
- 36:39Speaker 8: have that one dude that's going to be like, my God,
- 36:42Speaker 8: that guy, that guy right there. It's just going to
- 36:43Speaker 8: be an amalgamation of multiple different things.
- 36:50Speaker 3: What a pull.
- 36:50Speaker 8: Multiple different, very good receivers that all know what to do.
- 36:54Speaker 8: You know what I was like? Okay, watch the tape.
- 36:59Speaker 8: You got a lot of unselfish play by the wide
- 37:01Speaker 8: receivers as well. You cannot– it is impossible, unless it's man-to-man,
- 37:06Speaker 8: it's impossible to have explosive running plays consistently without wide
- 37:11Speaker 8: receivers that are willing to stick their face in somebody
- 37:14Speaker 8: else's face.
- 37:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 37:15Speaker 8: And be aggressive and make your blocks. Do your job
- 37:19Speaker 8: all the time. It's not about catching it for 1,500 yards.
- 37:22Speaker 8: It's not about, you know, I'm not going to do
- 37:24Speaker 8: it unless I'm getting the ball and scoring touchdowns. It's
- 37:26Speaker 8: about doing your job. Because nobody else can have explosive
- 37:29Speaker 8: plays if you're not blocking on that second, that third
- 37:32Speaker 8: level of defense. And that's what I saw consistently. I
- 37:35Speaker 8: saw no loafs. I saw people understanding their job, the
- 37:40Speaker 8: willingness to do their job, and the skill set to
- 37:43Speaker 8: do that job.
- 37:44Speaker 3: So I was impressed in that manner.
- 37:46Speaker 8: And I expect that you're going to have some games
- 37:48Speaker 8: where there might be these games where two, three, four
- 37:51Speaker 8: different receivers throughout the year are like, oh, my God,
- 37:54Speaker 8: that was a 125-yard game by that guy.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Yeah. You're going to see it. I was impressed with
- 37:57Speaker 3: the route running.
- 37:58Speaker 8: I was impressed with the mindset that they had.
- 38:01Speaker 3: It was a total team win. It was a total
- 38:03Speaker 3: team ass whipping. Yeah. I can't get over going back
- 38:07Speaker 3: and watching the film, just the aggressive, violent nature of
- 38:10Speaker 3: every position. Didn't matter what it was. It was like,
- 38:14Speaker 3: we're pissed off. We want to show the world that
- 38:16Speaker 3: we are, and we want to do it with some swag.
- 38:19Speaker 3: And I heard the broadcast continue to talk about it,
- 38:21Speaker 3: and people talking about the game. It's like, we've always
- 38:24Speaker 3: seen Lane. Kiffin and his offenses, and he's always had
- 38:27Speaker 3: a defense that did what they needed to do, but
- 38:29Speaker 3: this is different. Yeah, it's different. Blake Baker and that
- 38:32Speaker 3: entire staff last year, you know what kind of positions
- 38:35Speaker 3: they were put in? The worst possible ones. They had
- 38:38Speaker 3: to try to win games on defense. They didn't have
- 38:42Speaker 3: any help. Then all of a sudden, it's like, hey,
- 38:44Speaker 3: you make a big stop. Hey, coach, we're going to
- 38:47Speaker 3: need you to get right back on the field. They
- 38:48Speaker 3: just went three and out. What? Yeah, sorry. My bad.
- 38:52Speaker 3: You got to go back out there and do it again.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Get us the ball back. Get us the ball back. Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Come on, Blake. They were that last year. They had
- 39:00Speaker 3: some dogs. Halsey, Montsour Delane.
- 39:04Speaker 6: I miss them.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Man, they had some dogs back there. But they didn't
- 39:08Speaker 3: get their credit they deserved because the defense was always
- 39:11Speaker 3: out there. Still a top 30 defense. Yeah. But they
- 39:13Speaker 3: were always out there. They always asked them to do
- 39:16Speaker 3: more than they should have because they just didn't have
- 39:18Speaker 3: any help. And now... Everybody's like, oh, man, look at this.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Look at this defense. No, the defense was there. They
- 39:24Speaker 3: just got a functional offense that can go get first
- 39:28Speaker 3: downs and help them out. give them a breather. And
- 39:31Speaker 3: now I think you're going to be able to see
- 39:34Speaker 3: even more stuff from the defense. They can be more creative.
- 39:37Speaker 3: They can take a chance here. They can take a
- 39:39Speaker 3: chance there. Where last year, I'm sure at some point
- 39:41Speaker 3: they were like, we love being aggressive, but also like,
- 39:45Speaker 3: you know, it's great. You got to be a little
- 39:46Speaker 3: bit safer because we don't have any help. Yeah, that's
- 39:48Speaker 3: I mean, that's like weird. Right?
- 39:51Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Just different.
- 39:55Speaker 8: It is because Blake Baker loves to take chances. And
- 39:58Speaker 8: they're calculated risks. They're like, yes, I'm going to put
- 40:01Speaker 8: one of my defenders in a unfavorable matchup if it
- 40:06Speaker 8: gets down the field. Like the other day, like this Saturday,
- 40:09Speaker 8: they put a defensive end having to cover a running back.
- 40:14Speaker 3: On a wheel route down the sideline. he's not going
- 40:18Speaker 3: to hold up.
- 40:18Speaker 8: It's impossible to hold up 15, 20 plus yards down
- 40:21Speaker 8: the field, but you're taking a risk there because you know,
- 40:25Speaker 8: you can.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Get somebody free.
- 40:26Speaker 7: Right.
- 40:26Speaker 8: And you know, you can get to the quarterback before
- 40:30Speaker 8: he can make that throw to somebody else.
- 40:33Speaker 3: And you are able to do that.
- 40:34Speaker 8: And Blake Baker is going to do that more and
- 40:36Speaker 8: more and more because he knows he's got an offense
- 40:38Speaker 8: that can score like last year. Like you were saying,
- 40:40Speaker 8: if I make one mistake, if I take one risk
- 40:42Speaker 8: and it goes wrong, then we might be screwed for
- 40:45Speaker 8: the rest of the game.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:47Speaker 8: But, Now if you take the risk, and it's going
- 40:49Speaker 8: to hit, but somebody's going to hit you at some
- 40:52Speaker 8: point during the season. You played these other teams. Coaches
- 40:54Speaker 8: get paid a lot of money. Players get paid a
- 40:56Speaker 8: lot of money. Somebody's going to hit you, hit you
- 40:58Speaker 8: back a little bit.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:00Speaker 8: But you've got an offense now that can compliment you
- 41:02Speaker 8: and can go score points. You don't have to be–
- 41:04Speaker 8: Blake can call it now with no fear.
- 41:08Speaker 7: Yep.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And he can have full confidence on the other side.
- 41:10Speaker 3: The other side can have full confidence. You got a
- 41:13Speaker 3: no-fear shirt on right now? I wish. I thought you
- 41:15Speaker 3: said you did. Bring him back. Base is loaded. Two outs,
- 41:21Speaker 3: full count, down by three, game on the line, no fear.
- 41:28Speaker 3: And if you don't remember those, your knees probably don't
- 41:30Speaker 3: hurt like mine do. We'll take a break. We'll ask
- 41:32Speaker 3: the bench when we come back here on OTB. Off

- 42:48Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 42:48Speaker 3: All right, guys, we.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Started here like seven, eight months ago, whatever it was,
- 42:56Speaker 4: all right? And we asked you to work really hard. Okay?
- 43:00Speaker 4: And we asked you to come back to work again
- 43:02Speaker 4: and again and again.
- 43:03Speaker 10: Okay?
- 43:04Speaker 4: Do you feel good about what happened?
- 43:05Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 43:06Speaker 7: Who gives a * * * * what happened?
- 43:08Speaker 10: That's what's supposed to happen. Ain't no * * *
- 43:10Speaker 10: * celebrations for that.
- 43:12Speaker 3: They're * * * * soft.
- 43:13Speaker 4: They work different.
- 43:15Speaker 3: We're * * * * different.
- 43:17Speaker 4: So you gotta show them again. They're gonna come out.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Doesn't matter what plays they run. Doesn't matter what they
- 43:24Speaker 4: do on offense, defense. Put the next * * *
- 43:26Speaker 4: * quarterback.
- 43:27Speaker 10: In I don't give a you send him a message
- 43:31Speaker 10: who the is on their schedule they have to play
- 43:36Speaker 10: you and don't think we're letting up late no matter
- 43:41Speaker 10: if you're in the game for one snap or 50
- 43:43Speaker 10: more snaps you take it out on them the whole
- 43:46Speaker 10: world hates you So you get a chance to show
- 43:50Speaker 10: the whole world.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Go f * * * yourself. Cryptid just had to
- 43:53Speaker 4: see it right now. Three, one, three, one, two, three.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Ah, God, I love every bit of that. Great job, Alondra.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Well done, Alondra. What a bleep. I was waiting for like,
- 44:06Speaker 3: that was bleeping great. Alondra Academy Award editing right there.
- 44:11Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Is it still hit? Yeah. If this was early 2000s rap,
- 44:14Speaker 3: it would have been glass shattering.
- 44:16Speaker 6: I know. It's just weird sound effects.
- 44:19Speaker 3: So good.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Doing the bleep is so much easier.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Good work. And again, we waited, and Elijah, great work.
- 44:25Speaker 3: You wait till the very end because there's no children
- 44:27Speaker 3: in the car, whatever. The part when he hits the
- 44:31Speaker 3: whole world hates you, so go tell them to F
- 44:35Speaker 3: themselves is utopic for me. Because that's what I was
- 44:39Speaker 3: getting at earlier. And I agree with a lot of
- 44:43Speaker 3: what you said, and there is that respect factor for sure.
- 44:47Speaker 3: But since we're here, and that's the messaging. Yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 9: Well, now that the games have started, that's the message.
- 44:53Speaker 9: That's what the last two weeks have been, right? It's
- 44:56Speaker 9: been LSU fans trying to defend their team online.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Now the team gets to defend the fans. Yeah.
- 45:07Speaker 3: So good. So good. And let me just tell you,
- 45:10Speaker 3: somebody who's had really good coaches at pregame speeches and
- 45:13Speaker 3: had really bad coaches at pregame speeches, halftime speeches, it matters.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Like that, I didn't know he had that in the bag.
- 45:21Speaker 6: I didn't either.
- 45:21Speaker 3: I did not know that was in the repertoire.
- 45:24Speaker 6: I really did not either.
- 45:25Speaker 3: And it like made sense. Like sometimes guys get there,
- 45:29Speaker 3: they just start cussing and saying stuff. Like that all
- 45:31Speaker 3: had a point.
- 45:33Speaker 9: It makes sense that he has it in the bag, though, right? Like,
- 45:35Speaker 9: that's why guys like playing for him. That's why everybody's like, oh,
- 45:38Speaker 9: Kiffin's fun.
- 45:38Speaker 3: He's energetic. Like, that's it.
- 45:41Speaker 8: But now that it has late, you got to find
- 45:42Speaker 8: the rat. Because, I mean, it's not all going to
- 45:45Speaker 8: be great. You might say something that you might not
- 45:47Speaker 8: agree with. You don't want it getting recruited.
- 45:53Speaker 3: God knows I don't. I mean, we get recorded enough
- 45:55Speaker 3: when we speak. 15 hours a week.
- 45:58Speaker 6: I feel like it's that meme of, like.
- 45:59Speaker 3: 30.
- 46:01Speaker 6: The guy shooting him, and he's like, who would do this?
- 46:04Speaker 3: It's like, I.
