- 0:27we bring news, trivia, fun facts, and more just for curious
- 0:31kids like you. Get ready to blast off on an
- 0:34amazing adventure today because we're heading to outer space.
- 0:38That's right, today's episode is a trivia about space.
- 0:42So put on your imaginary space suits, buckle up, and prepare
- 0:46for liftoff. We're going to explore planets,
- 0:48stars, and so much more. Are you ready?
- 0:52Let's count down to our first question.
- 0:54Question one, What is the name of the planet that's closest to
- 0:57the sun in our solar system? The answer is Mercury.
- 1:06Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system, and it's
- 1:09super close to the sun because it's so near.
- 1:12Mercury is really hot during the day, but believe it or not, it
- 1:16gets freezing cold at night. That's because Mercury doesn't
- 1:19have much atmosphere to keep the heat in.
- 1:21Imagine standing on a planet where you'd have to wear a sun
- 1:24hat in the morning and a winter coat at night.
- 1:27Question 2. Which planet is known as the Red
- 1:30Planet because of its reddish color?
- 1:37The answer is Mars. Mars gets its nickname, the Red
- 1:41Planet, because its surface is covered in iron oxide, which is
- 1:44kind of like the rust you see on a bike left out in the rain.
- 1:47This gives Mars its famous reddish color.
- 1:50Scientists are really interested in Mars because they think it
- 1:54might be the best place to look for signs of life beyond Earth.
- 1:57Question three. What is the biggest planet in
- 2:00our solar system? The answer is Jupiter.
- 2:07Jupiter is so huge that you could fit all the other planets
- 2:10inside it twice. It's made mostly of gas and has
- 2:14a giant storm called the Great Red Spot.
- 2:17That storm has been swirling for hundreds of years and is even
- 2:21bigger than the whole Earth. Imagine a storm that never stops
- 2:25and is bigger than our entire planet.
- 2:27Question 4. What do we call the path that a
- 2:30planet takes around the sun? The answer is an orbit.
- 2:37Every planet in our solar system travels around the sun in its
- 2:41own special path called an orbit.
- 2:44Earth's orbit takes 365 days, which is what makes up one year.
- 2:49So next time you have a birthday, remember you've made
- 2:52one full trip around the sun. Question 5.
- 2:55What is the name of the Galaxy where our solar system is
- 2:58located? The answer is the Milky Way.
- 3:05The Milky Way is a huge spiral Galaxy, and it's home to
- 3:09billions and billions of stars, including our sun.
- 3:12If you go outside at night and look up, you might see a Milky
- 3:16looking band stretching across the sky.
- 3:19That's part of our Galaxy. Question 6 What is the name of
- 3:23the first person to walk on the moon?
- 3:29The answer is Neil Armstrong. He took that famous first step
- 3:33on July 20th, 1969 and said the famous words.
- 3:37That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
- 3:42He was part of the Apollo 11 mission and his footprints are
- 3:46still on the moon today because there's no wind to blow them
- 3:49away. Question 7.
- 3:51How many planets are in our solar system?
- 3:58The answer is 8. The 8 planets are Mercury,
- 4:01Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
- 4:07Pluto used to be considered a planet, but now scientists call
- 4:11it a dwarf planet. But don't worry, Pluto fans,
- 4:14it's still out there orbiting the Sun.
- 4:17Question 8. Which planet has the most
- 4:20spectacular rings in our solar system?
- 4:26The answer is Saturn. Saturn's rings are made of ice,
- 4:30rock, and dust, and they stretch out for thousands of miles.
- 4:34You can even see Saturn's rings with a small telescope.
- 4:38Some other planets like Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune also have
- 4:42rings, but Saturn's are definitely the biggest and
- 4:45brightest. Question 9.
- 4:48What is the hottest planet in our solar system?
- 4:54The answer is Venus. Even though Mercury is closer to
- 4:58the sun, Venus is actually hotter because it has a super
- 5:02thick atmosphere that traps heat like a giant oven.
- 5:05Temperatures on Venus can reach up to 900°F.
- 5:09That's hot enough to melt lead. No wonder Venus is sometimes
- 5:13called Earth's evil twin. Question 10.
- 5:17What do we call a group of stars that forms a pattern in the sky,
- 5:20like the Big Dipper or Orion? The answer is a constellation.
- 5:29People have been looking up and making pictures out of the stars
- 5:32for thousands of years. There are 88 official
- 5:35constellations, and you can see some of the most famous ones
- 5:38from your own backyard. Next time you're outside at
- 5:40night, see if you can spot a Constellation.
- 5:43Question 11 What do astronauts wear to protect themselves in
- 5:47space? The answer is a space suit.
- 5:54Space suits are like tiny spaceships you wear.
- 5:57They protect astronauts from the freezing cold, hot sun, and even
- 6:02tiny bits of space dust. Space suits also give astronauts
- 6:06air to breathe and water to drink while they work outside
- 6:09their spacecraft. Talk about a cool outfit.
- 6:12Question 12 What is the name of the robot vehicles that explore
- 6:16the surface of Mars? The answer is Rovers.
- 6:23NASA has sent several Rovers to Mars, including Sojourner,
- 6:27Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance.
- 6:31These rolling robots take pictures, collect rocks, and
- 6:35send back tons of information so we can learn more about the Red
- 6:38Planet. Some of these Rovers have even
- 6:40found signs that water once flowed on Mars.
- 6:43Question 13 What force keeps the planets orbiting around the Sun?
- 6:52The answer is gravity. Gravity is the invisible force
- 6:56that pulls things toward each other.
- 6:58It keeps us on the ground, makes apples fall from trees, and
- 7:02holds the planets in their orbits around the sun.
- 7:05Without gravity, everything would just float away into
- 7:08space. Question 14 What's the name of
- 7:11the giant telescope floating above Earth that takes amazing
- 7:15pictures of space? The answer is the Hubble Space
- 7:22Telescope. Launched in 1990, Hubble orbits
- 7:26high above Earth and has taken some of the most stunning
- 7:28pictures of stars, galaxies, and nebulae.
- 7:32Thanks to Hubble, scientists have learned so much more about
- 7:35our universe and we get to see breathtaking photos of space.
- 7:39Question 15. Which planet spends on its side
- 7:42making its seasons totally different from the other
- 7:45planets? The answer is Uranus.
- 7:52Uranus is tipped over so far that it basically rolls around
- 7:55the Sun on its side. That means its seasons last for
- 7:59years and years. Imagine having a summer that
- 8:02lasts 21 years. Plenty of time for ice cream now
- 8:06before we finish our journey. It's time for this super
- 8:09challenge. Question.
- 8:10Are you ready? Put on your thinking Caps Super
- 8:14Challenge. What is the name of the largest
- 8:16volcano in our solar system and on which planet is it found?
- 8:24The answer is Olympus Mons, and it's on Mars.
- 8:28Olympus Mons is the tallest volcano and mountain in the
- 8:31whole solar system, about three times taller than Mount Everest.
- 8:35It's so big that if you stood on top of it, you wouldn't even be
- 8:39able to see the base because of how gently it slopes down.
- 8:42Wow, what's an adventure? You've just traveled across the
- 8:46solar system, learned about planets, stars, Rovers, and even
- 8:50the tallest volcano ever. Thanks for joining us on this
