- Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: Okay, welcome in to the Brutally Honest BYU podcast. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: first of all, I apologize. I happened to be up super late last night watching the cougars of Brigham Young. Take it to the freaking Irish of Notre Dame, baby. Let's go. I got nothing in the tank here, but these boys weren't gonna let Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: these receipts go unread. So, Nate, welcome. We're gonna have Nate Crowley: Yeah Josh Crowley: a lot of fun. fair warning, some feet will be held to fire. I was doing a little bit of research, Nate, and apparently crow tastes Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: somewhere in between duck and chicken. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: I've never had to eat it, so I wouldn't know. that doesn't sound bad to me. I haven't actually had duck, Nate Crowley: I've had duck, it's not bad. Josh Crowley: let's You sound just as bad as me, bro. I love it. But you were actually at the game. I Nate Crowley: I know, I know. Josh Crowley: was just watching it in my living room. So Nate Crowley: Hahaha I will say this as far as the crow eating goes. this is what sports is about. And if you're a BYU fan that thinks that there's just not a version of holding people accountable and giving some sports smack talk, that's what this is. Neither Josh or I have any hateful, truly hateful feelings towards any of the things that we're going to be addressing here today. This is just sports smack talk. That's what it is. Josh Crowley: banter yes. Nate Crowley: yeah, as you can tell, my voice is shot. it was magical. I mean, it was everything that we expected. We talked about it, bro. We called our shot. We babe Ruth that insert Fort letter word, bro. we were so right about so many things. Notre Dame fans yesterday were great. All the ones I interacted with. I do have to say there was a guy one row in front of us, couple seats to my left, wearing a green Notre Dame shirt. And at halftime he put on a light blue hoodie. And I was like, bro. That is the softest, Josh Crowley: So soft. Nate Crowley: I was like, that's exactly what I That's the softest crap I've ever seen. I'm like, don't show up. Those tickets were expensive. Don't be wearing Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: both teams colors. Get out of there. my goodness, then from the game, bro, like our brother-in-law came with me. He sat next to me he goes at the coin flip. He's like, do you take the ball straight out? And I'm like, never. Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: I'm deferred deferred deferred and I still stand by that But when you get the ball and you march down the field and it what it wasn't gimmicky, bro it wasn't like ooh, let me like Josh Crowley: Nope. Some Utah offense bullcrap. Nate Crowley: No, yeah none of that stupid stuff Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: going on there, but it was just Deliberate. fine Walker lines and throw him the ball. that was Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: the opening drive. excuse me while I wet my palette here. Josh Crowley: Dude, I know, dude. I'm right there with you. Nate Crowley: Gosh the way that that game started confirmed everything that we had thought going into the game. you knew that BYU was here to play and we were going to win. Obviously, it didn't come to dominance like it kind of looked like there for a minute, but it's still a dub. Josh Crowley: in our comments, gotta hand it to Notre Dame fans, I respect the game in terms of you prepping for your upcoming opponent in whatever way you want, and I'm flattered that so many people thought that our little podcast was a place they wanted to come in anticipation of a huge matchup and then they found our takes to be so crazy. reading all these comments, I was like, bro, are we up in the night? are we about to get boat raced and we just have no clue? And again, like props to Notre Dame fans for your level of confidence, but you said we didn't know ball. You said that we were delusional. You said a whole lot of things. We're gonna get to some very specific quotes here. And and I think that like priority number one in this podcast is to establish your boys no ball, bro. and let's just start like at the highest level. This kid next to me predicted the score to be 27 to 20 freaking four, based on our scoring system, you're one point off of a perfect 50 dude, you you have been insanely close over and over, none closer than this one. huge props to you. I also mentioned like I think we have a game winning drive for a touchdown. then you get into the nitty-gritty because that's that's just the high level stuff. I gotta give you your flowers. I called you out on the pod when you claimed that we could win this game Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: with it not being our best game and there being room for error. Nate Crowley: Yeah Josh Crowley: And I was like, dude, that's bold. And lo and behold, there was room for error. We made so many errors in that game. That game could have absolutely gotten blown further wide open. And listen, credit where credit's due to Notre Dame for battling back. But we had some massive self-inflicted stuff that Notre Dame did not cause. yet we still came out with the freaking win, dude. Huge props to you. Nate Crowley: we were 100 % right on some of these takes. And this being one of them where it was just like, I just watched Notre Dame's games going up to it and they just didn't look flawless. I feel like BYU has played against teams where BYU is being so outmatched, where I'm like, it is gonna take a flawless performance. great example. 2018 Wisconsin, BYU goes to... Madison, And literally had to scheme up everything to just be perfect down to the last play of the game. And I just knew that BYU was better than that in this matchup. not only was it not played perfect game, it was some debilitating. mistakes. A muffed punt Josh Crowley: Yes. Nate Crowley: when you're up 21 to 10. Supposed to get the ball on the 40, like all the momentum Josh Crowley: At like Nate Crowley: just huge play. then secondly, yeah, the fake punt, those are huge freaking mistakes. And for that to not cost you the game was just spot on. respond to what I said. Josh Crowley: Yep. Yep. a few other brutally honest takes that really fleshed out. had some trick plays, one of my favorite comments that we got, because it was actually a legit comment. So I cut the episode in such a way, this is the way that my brain works. I got scared when I was editing the episode because Nate actually dropped a much larger potential trick play in our raw edit. that had to do with tight ends in the backfield. I am anxiety ridden. And I was like, is there any way that we have a play not work out? Because the brutally honest boys got some intel from a practice, it got online and somehow ends up back to the Notre Dame defensive coordinator. And I I'm not willing to take that risk. So I cut that out. so you actually are talking about a play action play with two tight ends in the backfield, which is a crazy play, but the way that I cut it up, it makes it sound like you're just calling play action a trick play. And a Notre Dame fan is like, ooh, play action, what a scary trick play. And I was like, that's gold. Nate Crowley: you there was at least one play that we ran pistol with Roger standing next Josh Crowley: Right. Nate Crowley: to Bear. Josh Crowley: Nate made the comment, like, I just don't think that their athletes are anything scarier than we've seen. And wow that touched a nerve with Notre Dame fans. now listen, there are some great athletes and great players for Notre Dame. The one-handed grab, thank goodness you got Nate Crowley: my gosh. Josh Crowley: you've got the athletes on the edge that you do because CJ Carr is not that athlete, is not that guy, which is another one of the places that we called. It just did not feel like speed that we could not compete with I go and watch Jeremiah Smith, for Ohio State. that's a guy where you just go. Wow, I don't I don't know what how do you game plan against that dude. I just I just don't know how you do it. that's just a certified baller, you know? And I think you had an example of our athletes that you wanted to share. Nate Crowley: That, yeah, I was gonna say, the Journey Tonga, which for Notre Dame fans if you were here, that's our running back who... was not part of the team until fall camp this year and was probably the fourth string guy heading into the season gets a swing pass out and makes your, I think, redshirt senior, I know it's linebacker touch grass and tackle the air. Like literally arms wide open. with arms wide open and literally just gets blown past gives up a first down to our freshman 18 year old running back that's exactly what i'm talking about the athletes that were on the field on saturday night were not so different if anything byu looked a little bit more athletic other than what you said i think fazon's legit some of your other receivers. Number one was crazy. anyway, but it was just. Josh Crowley: Yeah, y you had a tight end that that was good at getting into soft coverage being in the right place at the right time like Nate Crowley: what's 15's name on defense? Leonard, Leonard Moore, is that his name? Josh Crowley: more. Nate Crowley: mean, he was good, but guess what? We still threw at him. Casper Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: caught passes on him. Lions caught passes on him, and I'm pretty sure Legend caught passes on him. like... Josh Crowley: Yeah. legend was the other example I was gonna bring up on this topic Legend is probably the best athlete on our team. little bit of a different example from our fifth string backup running back. But still, Legend was dancing and moving and making guys miss we as BYU fans are constantly questioning, like, do we really have it? Have we really recruited to that level? Are we really gonna be able to go on the field and not just feel overwhelmed by speed, by size, by athleticism? And at no point did it just look like we have no answer. for this type of athlete. It just didn't. And and credit to our coaching staff for finding the guys, for coaching the guys. Nate Crowley: another one of our takes that we got fried in the comment section for Was saying that bear was better than CJ car or that CJ car wasn't that scary you were like I'm more afraid of Alabama's quarterback. and the Notre Dame fans were livid bro about that comment. And so here's a little insight. So I got to the game absurdly early because that's my personality. And so I'm watching all of the warmups and I'm sending Josh clips of CJ throwing on air, no pads, just one receiver and quarterbacks throwing. Bro was airmailing stuff early in that game and it's like what blamed the elevation What like what are you gonna be blaming this on and the first drive of the game? Yes phase Josh Crowley: Like come on Yep. Nate Crowley: on for a touchdown and he just Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: skies it bro And also Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: side note on that Tommy prassus I don't know if he saw the field after that play because he's the one on the back end coverage Yeah, which Josh Crowley: that's a good point. Yeah, Kenan Pula gets a lot more run and obviously Raider Yeah, that's true. Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: I I hadn't picked up on that, but you're absolutely right. I think he which hey, I love our coaches like holding guys' feet to the fire just like we're doing here, man. Nate Crowley: For sure. Josh Crowley: let's see. let's just call out some of our favorite receipts, dude. Nate Crowley: Okay. Josh Crowley: We had so category A, with what athletes. Skyler K 2001. Notre Dame is better at every single position on the field by a wide margin. Noel Rohr, run us off the field, ha ha ha. With what athletes? All caps, by the way. So really got your point across. Darren Meyer, 4012. Every one of these players will be playing on Sundays. They will leave no doubt. That was just an amazing part of the comment section. dude, we are so delusional for BYU if that is what I am showing up to court being charged with, like send me with a life sentence, bro. I'm so proud to be a delusional BYU fan. But you Notre Dame fans are just take it to a level that I can't even hang with. Every one of your players will be playing on Sundays. Nate Crowley: Thank Josh Crowley: you would have thought from the way the comments section read that we had picked Nate Crowley: Yeah Josh Crowley: BYU to beat the Dallas freaking Cowboys, dude. what? Notre Dame is good. You guys are not an NFL team. Like, relax. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: And and us being like pro BYU is not an insult to your family. Like, good heavens. Nate Crowley: I Josh Crowley: Incredible. Nate, you got you got section B here. You wanna call out some folks? Nate Crowley: Yeah, yeah, let me see here. B.O.A. you will have a long day. Might not even make it to the red zone. Thank you Albany, Notre Dame. Yeah, opening drive of the game, buddy. Joey Glennon also likes to add there, There's no one I've been watching the tape in the All 22. I just don't understand how you're even gonna get a person down, let alone score touchdowns. I mean, again, I can't even say it without laughing, Joey. we got a cue of this in the comments too, of we don't watch anything other than BYU football. And it's like, bro, you guys clearly didn't watch any BYU football before. Josh Crowley: Right. Nate Crowley: this game. You guys have been only watching Notre Dame football You guys must have thought that BYU was literally like this. Mountain West Conference team from 2006 that's that's who you thought you were playing because not getting a first down With the results of how that game went is comical. It is genuinely comical and then Bernard Rapaski wants to add Be know how you wouldn't score 20 28 against our name in two games Which is just bliss honestly, it's like Josh Crowley: so good. Nate Crowley: That that is just a perfect moment of karma and that is just delicious. Thank you Bernard. I love seeing that comment in our comment section. Josh Crowley: It's so beautiful that we end up scoring 28 on the nose just for that comment alone. So good. I'm just gonna go straight at Notre Dame fans, and listen, I'm trying to make your life better, we were ranked number eight. talking down to your opponent as if they are like just an incompetent football team when they're ranked in the top ten. it doesn't help your cause. you actually wanted to believe that we were good, but that you were better. Like that that's what just like some of these comments is just crazy. You know, and that that goes it Nate Crowley: Well, to be fair, there are a couple of those Notre Dame fans in our comments who are saying, like, Josh Crowley: Yes, agreed. Nate Crowley: So there were a handful, it's not every, but yes, there was plenty who were just crapping on BYU to the point that it's like, that's actually bad for you if you want the best Josh Crowley: Exactly. Nate Crowley: interest of Notre Dame. Yeah. Josh Crowley: Yeah, I'll breeze through this section C is nobody's overlooking you, but winning is impossible. Russ R. Reyes said that BYU cannot beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame would have to beat itself. We kinda already talked about BYU having a lot of self-inflicted wounds, actually, and still winning the game. Again, we're back to Bernard Rapaski. Notre Dame can certainly lose to BYU, but I highly doubt BYU can beat Notre Dame. that was just not the case in this one. like Nate said, You didn't watch BYU before this game. Ryan James B three H, there'll be no excuses for Notre Dame. You'll Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: get their A game. The seventeenth straight game of double digit wins is a lock. man, Brian, for your sake, I really hope that you didn't put your money where your mouth was. otherwise, you know, thank goodness for government programs. Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: All right, let's see. We have just some some rapid fire in section D. maybe we just each take one, you know, go back and forth. So these guys should do Kool-Aid commercials, LOL Wow. yeah. I mean, hey, I'll take I'll take some dough from Kool-Aid any day of the week. Nate Crowley: not an ad but wish it was cool aid Get Josh Crowley: When she was yes. Nate Crowley: your get your code at the checkout use the link below BH brutally honest Bo you pod is your code BH BP Josh Crowley: B H B Y U, yes. Nate Crowley: Mark on the radio 7661 says these college students should hire adults to analyze. Which it's like bro! I know. Josh Crowley: What a what a what a complimentary insult. I might I wish I wish so bad, bro. I mean, I was probably more so talking about you, but it says students, so I'm taking it. let's see, we had Nate Crowley: my god. Yeah, yeah, we'll take it. Josh Crowley: I had Devil Doc 4257. Was this a parody of Dumb and Dumber? that's a great one. Big gulps, huh? Nate Crowley: that's right. Hooligan88. Bear is the teen-new version of Diego Pavia. First of all, you don't know how to spell Diego. Diago. And second of all. that is insulting. I genuinely take personal offense to that comment. I think that it's the wearing the number 47 thing. And I think that he just has to own that. And I think he does pretty well the whole 47 thing. But it's just like, again, Plenty of Notre Dame fans did not watch enough BYU football or any before this game. Josh Crowley: Michael Shepherd D four D this game could be in Bear's mama's house. And Notre Dame is gonna win by seventeen. I'm not even sure what that means but props for the creativity, honestly. Nate Crowley: if they were in Barry's mom's house, they'd all be naked and they probably still would have beat you. Josh Crowley: Yeah, apparently. So good. Nate Crowley: Steve Williams 4624 says, BYU is going to get silent after Saturday. Yeah, sorry. That's the exact opposite of what you're getting. Yeah. Josh Crowley: Here we are. I mean, maybe he was talking about losing our voices, which hey, Steve, like is a prophet. That's that's incredible. Nate Crowley: prophetic. Josh Crowley: and then last in this kind of rapid fire, BR Marshall eighty two. I mean, we had so many score predictions from Notre Dame fans. but this one I think was the most excessive at fifty four to seven, bro. I'm sorry that reality smacked you upside the head Saturday night, but Nate Crowley: Yeah, sorry about that. Josh Crowley: it was glorious. our next section, listen, we're the brutally honest BYU pod. And if you've been here for a while, you know that we are not above looking inward at our own fan base, at our own game day atmosphere. Banned, you name it. If we feel like it's needs to be called out, we're gonna call it out. We're not here to just say everything that you're gonna hear on BYU Sports Nation. And man, our comment section had a decent amount of BYU fans BYU fandom has room for everybody. And however you want a fan, but bizarre to be in our comments chummy with Notre Dame fans and Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: absolutely agreeing that we were gonna get trashed. I just don't understand what's fun about being a fan like that. And look, I'm on the record on this pod of talking about wanting to protect my heart Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: from disappointment and the way that 2017 shaped me as a fan. So trust me, mentally I'm there. But man, you better believe I'm never going to be in the comments section of a BYU video saying, we suck, we're just gonna get run off the field. So listen, Brad Thomas55, podcasts like this set BYU back. We're total underdogs. If we win, it'll be a miracle. That comment actually went on longer than that. That's just the clip that I took from it. I am just Flattered that you think that our little 10,000 views podcast has the ability to have an altering effect on BYU. I'm like, two optimistic podcast boys coming at you from my closet with my hats behind me, Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: set BYU back. I've made it if that's really the Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: power that I wield. with this platform get outta Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: here, Brad Thomas. Get out of here. Nate Crowley: and I'll just add I just cannot agree more where it's like What is being a fan to you You guys that were reading here. we've watched games with people like you before and it's terrible. And like you said, and we all do this as fans Saturday night, BYU scores on the JoJo Phillips play. And everyone around me starts to erupt, but I saw the offensive PI immediately. And so I'm looking at it. I was like, it's coming back. It's coming back. It's coming back. Totally deflating the situation, which it's like, that's because it was going to be deflated. You know what I mean? Josh Crowley: Yeah, yeah. Nate Crowley: Like there, it's just a different vibe than let's go to Charles Kim here. We can't beat them with LJ. Forget it without him. It's like Charles. My guy, have a little faith. Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: And again, are we being fan police telling people how they should fan? Maybe. And I honestly, it's just weird to me and I think it deserves being called out. So that's why we're here. Josh Crowley: Well, and as long as we're gonna be fan police, Mr. Brian Elder, you are absolutely under arrest. Handcuffs, and I'm taking you to the ground because not only did you make one comment, you made nine. I just hope that I never sit by you at a BYU game. I tried to find you on Twitter and I hope I find you. most of these are replies to Notre Dame fans who are asking questions like, again, is this a dumb and dumber parody? Or what are these guys smoking? Give me some of it. He's got it's not a skit, it's utter delusion. I'm a BYU fan that has been gaslit by nearly every local media member. Both of their souls will be crushed. Just let have this. Nothing as a BYU fan, we all know consciously or subconsciously, we are outmatched. If I can rep for sane BYU fans, Notre Dame has better athletes at nearly every position. As a BYU fan, I will absolutely be saying that. Relatively speaking, I'll be ecstatic, spelled EX S yeah, clearly didn't go to BYU. I'll be ecstatic if we keep this under four TDs. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: And unfortunately, You're going to massacre my team this Saturday. By the way, that's not all of Brian Elder. That's just a highlight reel of Brian Elder in our comment section. I don't know if anyone has told you, Brian. And listen, Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: you are loved. You are worth it. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your BYU friends hate you and hate. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: watching games with you. You you need to check yourself or find a new team. And there's a team up north that is full of people like you and you'll fit right in. But if you want to be in the fold, please repent. Please make things right because your BYU friends don't want to tell you but they hate you. and and please Nate Crowley: Hey, well, but Josh, let's just give him his flowers. He was ecstatic because they did keep it under a fort. Josh Crowley: Anyway, he was ecstatic. Nate Crowley: my gosh. Josh Crowley: I'm cackling bro, I have no voice to cackle, but that that is incredible. my goodness. Nate Crowley: Well, and I'll just add to that Brian it's listen like we said at the beginning of the pod We love you. This is just fun sports stuff, but stop Just stop Josh Crowley: Just stop Nate Crowley: Like why what? Satisfaction would you have gotten if Bo you had gotten blown out? that you were Josh Crowley: Right. Nate Crowley: right in the brutally honest BYU pod section that you're going to come back and be like, yeah, I'm go to the job. Josh Crowley: Told ya so? Like what? Nate Crowley: What was the motive behind it? And so again, start your own pod, bro. Start it. Start Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: the Brian Elder BYU pod. I will be there and I will listen because it'll be so interesting to hear you say, watching a BYU game or reacting to BYU game and being like, yeah, we suck. Like, what is that? So again, I'm just gonna... Josh Crowley: 5-0, 5-0 ranked eighth in the country. And you're up in a BYU fan podcast comment section saying that we're gonna get boat raced by 28 on our home field at night. Like, where have you been, Brian? Where have you been for the last two years? Like, come on, bro. I'm coming at you harder than Notre Dame fans. Maybe that's not fair, but I'm just telling you, I'm trying to save you from yourself, dude. Nate Crowley: But he's probably fine because he's ecstatic. Josh Crowley: He's ecstatic. I don't even need to help you because we know you are ecstatic. my gosh, it's amazing. yeah, I mean, we had a lot of you that said that you were gonna come back, and to some of your credit, at least a few of you did. Big Newt, big with two G's, Big Newt, had Nate Crowley: You Josh Crowley: said that he was just commenting to come back after the game, carry on, which honestly loved that comment. And then he says BOU's a great team, nothing left to do but own it. Y'all took it to Notre Dame. hey, Big Newt, go and win out. Go beat Miami. Make that win look better and better for BYU. hats off to you, Big Newt. That that is how you fan. See, Brian, get Nate Crowley: 100%. Josh Crowley: with Newt. March Nate Crowley: Large nudes. Go get him. Josh Crowley: Newt, track him down. Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: let's see, we had Noel Rohr, who I think we already heard from at one point. he said, with what athletes was his before, but he showed back up, owned his team's hell, said congratulations, but he does have to put a caveat on there. But as I stated, you're not gonna run us off the field, which I do, I don't actually have the exact comment pulled up. There was one person calling us out, calling me out pretty specifically, about the whole section of I could see us getting blown out, I could see us blowing them out, I could see a close win or a close loss, and just being like, wow, what astute analysis, which in some senses Nate Crowley: Hahaha Josh Crowley: was really funny, and I understand where you're coming from, but we clearly call our shot. I'm not trying to just cover all the bases what I was trying to say was Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: the point from A to B of if point A was where we were at recording that podcast, and point B was a blowout win for us, a blowout win against us, a close win or a close loss. All of those felt like a short distance. It wasn't hard for me to see how that might play out. That was what I was trying to say. And maybe I just didn't do a good enough job of explaining that. we still called our shot. We still call the BYU in. Again, this guy called it within one point of the actual score. So Nate Crowley: I'd add to that, was we saw the version of the game where VOU blows out Notre Dame, right? The first half Josh Crowley: Yes. Nate Crowley: 42 points was what VOU was on track for at halftime. And a 42 to 20 game. if the second half had replayed, that's a blowout in my book. Josh Crowley: sorry, Noel Rohr, you clearly could see that a blowout loss was very much in play into the second half of this game. it didn't end up playing out that way, and it ended up being a close win. and and we nearly thought that we might have a close loss. I mean, it comes down to the last play. So the only scenario that I said that there was a short distance between understanding how that might play out. that we definitely saw no evidence for was BYU getting blown out by Notre Dame, which is exactly what the all the comments told us and assured us was going to be the case. So I'll take the L there. I should not have been seeing a scenario where BYU got blown out on their home field. And and I apologize for saying that that that seemed like it might be possible. so yeah, I'll eat crow on that one. Happily. any remaining receipts or or thoughts that you wanted to wrap with, Nate? Nate Crowley: Yeah, I kind of referenced this one earlier. the 16 year old in the hoodie comment just really made me laugh. Josh Crowley: this is so good. NFL Scouts. Notre Dame has nine guys on their defense who will be drafted. Sixteen-year-old in hoodie. Notre Dame doesn't have any better athletes than us. BOU's Trevor Matic, C E J Carr is my number one pick in the draft. Hoodie Bro. Bear is better than Carr. These dudes got Nate Crowley: You Josh Crowley: into the caffeine again. Tisk tisk. That's Joe A forty one thirty three. Joe, just I salute you, bro. That's so good. That whole comment is so good. Nate Crowley: Both of those things were true I was spot on about that there was just a lot overall of comments both BYU and Notre Dame fans who just thought we were just so up in the night and it was just delicious. It was just delicious to go back, start to read a bunch of these and just be like, bro, the brutally honest BYU pod boys, like we watch a lot of BYU football. We consume so much of it that at least to some degree we are gleaning off morsels of truth that play out in the future. Josh Crowley: a lot of people thought we were irrational for the the way that we were feeling going into that game. And trust me, I was nervous. but it played out the way that we called our shot. almost to a T man, Nate Crowley: Maybe this is not that crazy a hot of a take. Play the game for me straight up. Play the game. It's the first in 10 play after Bear throws the interception and Kade Ullave comes through, blows up their running back for a loss, gets them behind the sticks and we force a three and out after that. Like. Josh Crowley: yeah. Nate Crowley: That play won us the game. Like I said, it is the play of the game by a country mile for me, which is crazy when you think about all the scoring plays, the trick play, all the things that went into being a winning. That play is just, it's not even close for me it's funny that the things that I pick out that I'm just like, that's the things I ended up cheering for. And that for me is one of those things where it was just like, it seemed like a good play, like a positive play for BYU that Kaden Ulave came through on, you know, on TFL. to me that I won us the game and it was just like that was such yeah. Josh Crowley: Well, because we're so big on momentum, right? We we are on record as feeling like momentum is just massive in in college football and that's a momentum play. That that's the defense Nate Crowley: for sure. Josh Crowley: could come out and just be sluggish and like we got thrown into a situation by a mistake and, you know, see a little lack of lack of focus, lack of effort, but instead they just they just do what they do. like the defense in particular, but this whole team is just ready. Like huge props and like the coaching, the the prep. the culture of this team will never cease to impress. It's it's just awesome. if Notre Dame can go and beat Miami, and which they've got him at home, is there a scenario where we're talking about BYU, the number one team in the country, the number one seeded team in the college football playoff? I am so drunk on the Kool-Aid. But I can't even fathom that being real. Nate Crowley: me neither and and i'm i actually am still taking the fifth seat over the number one two or three or four seat i know it's crazy i just Josh Crowley: No, I it's not, dude. I hear it. Nate Crowley: I think the ideal scenario now is losing the Big 12 championship. I think that's, I know that sounds crazy, but with one massive caveat, which is it can't be to Utah. I think that that's kind of the best case scenario, because I'm with you now, that it would just be absolutely devastating to see what you lose to UCF, lose to an ASU, lose to a Baylor or whoever. That Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: would just be literally so sucky. So that's where I'm like. I think going undefeated the whole way, losing the Big 12 championship to a non-Utah team, and hopefully get bumped down to that fifth seed, I think is like still perfect scenario. Josh Crowley: Yeah. No, I could see that. so update on our score prediction contest. Nate, again, unbelievable work. You're one point off, which results in a twenty nine Points scored. Yes, I will tip my cap. Absolutely. Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: I scored 19. you scored 29. The current score is 116 Nate to 94 Josh. It's still within distance. I'm gonna have to start getting bolder and bolder in my predictions in order to Nate Crowley: You Josh Crowley: to catch you. But yeah, so let's turn the page a little bit to UCF. Loki, I feel like they are one of the wildest wild cards in the Big 12. Three and home, and three away. wins against some real no names, but also a very similar score against TCU as what we had. You know, obviously I think conditions were different in their TCU game. They've lost to Pitt, Houston, and Oklahoma State. and I would say none of those Oklahoma State ends up being a 14 point loss after being tied at the half. but Seven twelve pit, twenty seven seventeen Houston. Like I think UCF is kind of one of those dangerous teams that can hang with anybody but just hasn't put it all together. But they're clearly better at home than they are on the road. We're gonna be coming off an emotional win. You know, it's it's the old t two time Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: zone thing. It's playing on the road so I don't know. Nate Crowley: They're coming off a bye. Josh Crowley: Right. rest versus rust on on their side of things. seemed like we came out of the game pretty healthy. I'm nervous about our corners, to be honest. it looked scary towards the end of the game. with corners, but then Trey's back in the game late. we'll see about Javen Williams who Listen, hand of accountability up that we did not before this season and we have not yet, I think on this podcast, highlighted Javen Williams. What a baller, dude. Like that dude just Nate Crowley: Yeah. Josh Crowley: has come alive in the last two games specifically. And we need him back. I really hope Nate Crowley: Well... Josh Crowley: I really hope that he's not out long term. Nate Crowley: talking about players to shout out Mathias Leach and Jordan Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: Chris. mean, good heavens, bro. Like how are we? Josh Crowley: Tune. Nate Crowley: Sitting here with wins with our second and third and fourth string corners blocking guys down in the most critical times of the game it just Josh Crowley: I mean, can you imagine the knee shaking when your number gets called and you're going in to replace either Trey Alexander or Javin Williams with the game on the line and a team that has to throw to win and we're calling man coverage on almost every play and you just have to go out there and be sticky? Nate Crowley: And Mathais Leach, So Kade Oulave gets a tackle for a loss. I think the second down play is like, it's an incomplete pass. I think we bat the ball or something like that. And then Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: they run a screen out and Mathais Leach just cooks the receiver and defeats the block and Josh Crowley: Yeah. Nate Crowley: wraps him up. And I'm just like, bro, that guy deserves a game ball in my opinion. Like just for Josh Crowley: Yeah, yeah. Nate Crowley: the plays that he came in. literally didn't lose a step. It was just incredible to see that. as we turn the page to UCF, I'm right there with you. This is one of those games where the last couple of years for BYU has felt like just get through it. Like it doesn't even have to be pretty. You've proven and I feel like the first five games going into the Notre Dame game, we really were critical and we really wanted to see BYU. Elevate because we wanted to know Like can we can we take somebody on like another name well now that we know that and the game's over this specific game, I won't say it's for the rest of the season, but at least for the UCF game. It's just like, just find a dub, and if it's ugly, then it's ugly. Who cares kind of a thing. But that being said, I still feel confident. I don't think BYU is gonna lose to UCF. Crazier things have happened in the college football world as we saw on Saturday. it's always the same story with UCF. Crazy, crazy athletes everywhere. So much speed. You just got to kind of keep them all in front of you from BYU's defensive perspective. And then, yeah, just be disciplined. Don't turn the ball over on offense. And I think that you should be able to win this game. And again, speaking of that, Preston Rex, bro, like... my heart soars with the eagle's nest for that guy. that guy Josh Crowley: So Nate Crowley: was just everything Josh Crowley: Nails. Nate Crowley: that we needed. the fact that we out rushed Notre Dame is just insane. Without LJ, it's just crazy. So anyway, you were going to say something. Josh Crowley: Yeah. I I was just looking over some more UCF notes. I didn't realize that they were leading seventeen to nothing in the third quarter against Houston and then allowed twenty seven unanswered. so anyway, I think it I think this is just a very hot and cold team. clearly turnover margin is gonna be a critical piece which this team, other than on special teams, is Pretty dang good about, not putting the ball on the turf and Bear Bear makes some really sound decisions. Well, let's call our shots. So man, UCF on Nate Crowley: you Josh Crowley: the road. I'm gonna say Cougars get the win. Well, I'm gonna say thirty five twenty one. Just give me a standard football score. Nate Crowley: Okay, I think that the Cougs only give up. 17 points to them and I think BYU scores. It's not that different from yours, but I'm going to say 38. So 38 17 Cougs. Josh Crowley: Okay. Yeah, not probably not different enough. unless I'm just spot on. I I just gotta hope for a spot on type of score and see if I can't can't Nate Crowley: You're good. Yep, Cougs. Josh Crowley: chase you down here. that was a whole lot of fun. will not be sad to see. Notre Dame fans in the rear view for now. Maybe a rematch ends up on the table this season, you know. You just you just never know But anyway, love you ain't love the Couggs for life. I'm guilty as charged. For being delusional for the cougs, baby. Let's go. Nate Crowley: Go Kings forever! Josh Crowley: Dude, Nate Crowley: We cheer for the number two team in the country. Josh Crowley: about today around the Georgia The good old days, boy, we're in the good old days. Nate Crowley: The good old days.
