- 0:09My name is Dan, I have autism at ADHD and I'm making weekly
- 0:12videos just like this world all about helping people achieve
- 0:15greater life success being on the autism spectrum.

- 0:20people's lives on the autism spectrum, then make sure to hit
- 0:22the subscribe button down below by clicking that notification
- 0:24bell. It really does help.
- 0:26Guys, What is going on? I know that, you know, different
- 0:28seasons come up and things like birthdays and holiday season and
- 0:31there's a lot of different types of food outings.
- 0:33You know, we're going to go to a restaurant, we have workers, so
- 0:35we're going to go here with our friends and family and family
- 0:37dinners and holiday dinners and Thanksgiving and all this kind
- 0:39of stuff. It gets it a little crazy, I
- 0:41know, but it's not the end of the world.
- 0:44Artistic individuals are notorious for being fussy
- 0:47eaters, right? I myself am a fussy eater.
- 0:49Everybody in my family is a fussy eater.
- 0:50I meet a family, not like growing up family, my my kids
- 0:53and my palace. So that being said, I thought
- 0:56what the best thing to do is to give you 5 really awesome tips
- 1:00about fuzzy eating that you can really help create a better time
- 1:04for people on the Austin spectrum and it's just going to
- 1:07be amazing. OK, so guys, here we go.
- 1:09OK guys. So the first thing is respecting
- 1:11the sensory preference. Now sometimes it could be a
- 1:14sensory need that you don't like pasta cold or you don't like
- 1:17having your food too cold, so you have to eat it, you know,
- 1:20straight away. As soon as it's served.
- 1:21And a lot of people will wait around until everyone's have
- 1:23them play to voice, start tucking into a meal.
- 1:25But you have to respect the sensory needs.
- 1:27You know, that means like having specific eating habits or maybe
- 1:32they cannot have, you know wet foods, touching dry foods on a
- 1:34plate. If you respect that, you've got
- 1:37an easier time having the personally or satisfaction will
- 1:39actually eat with you guys. Imagine having something that
- 1:41you, you know, imagine you're a vegetarian, right.
- 1:43And so we came to give you like some steak and bacon, you'd be
- 1:47like, oh, I can't eat it because it's not for me, right.
- 1:49That's what it's like for sensory issue with food.
- 1:52It's it's something that you can't eat, something you can't
- 1:54attest to. So think about that and respect
- 1:57those kind of boundaries. Right.
- 1:58So #2 is creating a structured meal time routine because a lot
- 2:03of the time we'll be going to families houses for for kind of
- 2:05like, I don't know, Christmas or Thanksgiving or something like
- 2:07that. And the routine will be all over
- 2:09the place. So if you can create a
- 2:11structured routine, even if you're not at home, if you can
- 2:14follow the same type of routine and just make sure that you're
- 2:17able to identify the fact that you're going to be outside of
- 2:19routine, you're going to be outside of your norm.
- 2:21Can I put a routine down to this to help the situation?
- 2:24You're going to have such an easier transition with that food
- 2:26because we're all after structure and routine and
- 2:29especially autistic individuals thrive from routine and
- 2:31structure. So having a structure around
- 2:33meal types, it's a no brainer and it's super, super
- 2:36beneficial. OK.
- 2:37So the next one is exploration of food through play.
- 2:40So encourage people on the other satisfaction to play with their
- 2:43food a little bit to kind of explore it because if you're not
- 2:45exploring your food through play with it, then you're never going
- 2:48to get a chance to actually try new food.
- 2:50You know, say you're like having a a fruit platter for the first
- 2:52time in your life and you've never experienced those certain
- 2:55textures. Now allowing someone to play
- 2:57with it and pick stuff up and have a feel about it's going to
- 2:59be so much more beneficial for their confidence and they may
- 3:01actually try it. I just want to interrupt this
- 3:03video guys to say thank you to today's video sponsor.
- 3:06Brilliant The Brilliant is a homeopathic medication which is
- 3:10pretty excellent for autism and ADHD.
- 3:12Now I take this because it helps me with concentration.
- 3:14I'm feeling less anxious but it also works to help with
- 3:17restlessness, irritability and impulsivity and helps you
- 3:19increase clarity and concentration.
- 3:22Brilliant is a non subscription based medication.
- 3:25It also comes for adults and children so you can check that
- 3:29out as well. Now it's supernatural, there's
- 3:30no like nasties in it and there's nothing addictive in it.
- 3:33But I would say to recommend checking out with your doctor
- 3:35first before taking any medication just to make sure
- 3:37it's cool with you. But you can get it right now at
- 3:3915% off using the code ASP 15. The link is in my description
- 3:44here now or in my bio if you want to go try and find it.
- 3:46OK guys, back to the video. OK, so the next one is utilizing
- 3:49visual support. Now a lot of the time we can get
- 3:52worried that oh, my assistant kid or my assistant boyfriend
- 3:54partner however, isn't eating the food because of XY and Z.
- 3:57But a lot of the time it's down to visualisation.
- 3:59Like if they don't know that this is what we're having now or
- 4:01I'm having something else next, it can get confusing.
- 4:03So one of the things I'd like to do is prepare for you to take
- 4:06with me to somewhere, so if I don't like the meal ahead of me,
- 4:08I've always got something else. So you can always have the small
- 4:11kind of like visual chat that says this is the video having
- 4:14now, but we also have backup later so this now that later.
- 4:17I talk about the now and next card lot in my Autism level up
- 4:20autism membership website. Now if you're interested in
- 4:23checking that out, it's a monthly subscription for only
- 4:25$7.97 but it's awesome and it really educates you and with all
- 4:30the download charters, lovely videos and all kinds of cool
- 4:32stuff. So if you're interested go to
- 4:33level of autism.net. OK, so the last one we're
- 4:36talking about is offering free choices within Linux.
- 4:39Like you don't want to have an approach way saying like, OK,
- 4:42we'll try everything out. You know, you're going to have
- 4:45to have some kind of, like finite way of saying, OK, well
- 4:47this is what we're going to have for dinner.
- 4:48This is the backup. And other than that, we're just
- 4:50going to have to not even go home.
- 4:52You have to have realistic expectations.
- 4:53And the person on the autism spectrum also has to encourage
- 4:56themselves to have realistic expectations and go with the
- 4:59flow a little bit in terms of the fact that sometimes there's
- 5:01going to be places where you do visit that you're not going to
- 5:03be able to eat out. I've been there 100 million
- 5:06times and that's absolutely fine.
- 5:08OK. If you want to download my free
- 5:10Autism Life Hacks PDF book, you can download it right now from

- 5:15below. Don't forget to check that out.
