- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Tom from Media Puzzle. We're stoke to announce that
- 0:03Speaker 1: we're supporting Regurgitator throughout the first half of the year. Oh,
- 0:09Speaker 1: I forgot to say the Heavy Mag Club.
- 0:11Speaker 2: That's all right, take too, Oh yeah, all right around too.
- 0:16Speaker 3: All right, Hi, I'm Tom from Mediapozzle.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm here with Heavy Mag and we're stick to announce
- 0:22Speaker 1: that Media Puzzle is supporting Regurgitator throughout the first half
- 0:26Speaker 1: of the year of twenty twenty six.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Awesome, all right, okay, hello, how are you Ellie.
- 0:36Speaker 4: I'm good, I'm good Tom.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Nice to meet you.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You too, coming from they're not so sunny Northern Rivers,
- 0:43Speaker 2: this sporting as well. There you go.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm actually in a barrel at the moment. But
- 0:50Speaker 1: are you there are a couple I was there a
- 0:51Speaker 1: couple of days ago.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. I live at Cabareta, so just
- 0:54Speaker 2: a little bit. I did look as it sometime.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Yeah cool real, yeah, back in my UNI days.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Which that's it.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I'm going to go now, that's why I was. Yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 4: so you guys are going to be supporting the gage.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It's pretty crazy.
- 1:11Speaker 4: That's awesome. Yeah, so tell me a bit more about
- 1:14Speaker 4: our media puzzle. How do you guys start? What are
- 1:16Speaker 4: you about? What's what's the jam?
- 1:18Speaker 1: So so the band, the media puzzle kind of my
- 1:22Speaker 1: solo project, I guess, and it kind of started in
- 1:25Speaker 1: my dorm room, my coro. I decided to make like
- 1:30Speaker 1: an album or like an EP's worth of music in
- 1:32Speaker 1: a day and just put it out and see what happens.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And yeah, like all my friends really liked it, which
- 1:38Speaker 1: was cool, and I was like, I'll keep doing it.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And then I started playing gigs and then it was
- 1:45Speaker 1: just me and like a little drum machine, and I
- 1:47Speaker 1: was like, this isn't fun to watch.
- 1:48Speaker 3: And then.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I'd be like fat waste.
- 1:53Speaker 2: People don't realize it's just one guy when they go
- 1:54Speaker 2: to see the show.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But yeah, eventually we got like a whole five piece
- 1:59Speaker 1: band together and it's doing that since then. But yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: it's just it's kind of started out as a joke
- 2:08Speaker 1: what I spend most of my time on. But that's
- 2:11Speaker 1: it's like a fun it's it's it's like a project
- 2:15Speaker 1: for me that's free of all.
- 2:17Speaker 3: There's no it can whatever. It can do anything for me.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, there's no limits, no ruined rules as such. Yeah, absolutely,
- 2:26Speaker 4: and that's always good, you know.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And that's the really cool thing I find about talking
- 2:29Speaker 2: to you know a lot of artists and whatnot these days,
- 2:31Speaker 2: is that there's no set path to you know, success anymore,
- 2:34Speaker 2: like anything whatever suits yourselves or whatever fits. It's you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you can still succeed and have results, and that's a
- 2:42Speaker 2: really good thing. It's just more options and more opportunity
- 2:45Speaker 2: to to happen.
- 2:46Speaker 1: What I love about it for me is it's like
- 2:48Speaker 1: a I can try anything, and it's just it's a
- 2:51Speaker 1: matter of seeing what works and what doesn't and like
- 2:54Speaker 1: just yeah, learning, it's a it's a it's a learning
- 2:57Speaker 1: project and a learning experience and in a beautiful way
- 2:59Speaker 1: that you know it.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Is absolutely yeah. So how many yeah? Yeah? Yeah?
- 3:05Speaker 2: So well, how would you describe your music that you've
- 3:08Speaker 2: that you've got out there at the moment?
- 3:09Speaker 4: All kind of genre does it fit into?
- 3:11Speaker 2: It?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Is it totally hybrid? No?
- 3:13Speaker 1: No, it kind of it's all kind of the same
- 3:15Speaker 1: for the moment it falls under it's under punk like
- 3:18Speaker 1: synth punk.
- 3:20Speaker 3: It gets called egg punk.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Which is a pretty pretty funny thing to describe sometimes,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but it's pretty much it sounds it's a low fi
- 3:29Speaker 1: fast punk music. Yeah, re incorporate like and there's normally
- 3:34Speaker 1: a drum machine somewhere in there.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So how did you take the synth sounds then for
- 3:39Speaker 2: five piece band and just strip the stems down then
- 3:41Speaker 2: just replay with actual instruments break it down like that.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Or pretty much?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, yeah, the releases never got any synth
- 3:51Speaker 1: attention at all.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It's just all guitar okay, But after that it ended up.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It did end up any a synth, and luckily had
- 3:59Speaker 1: one in my bedroom that I could actually get the
- 4:01Speaker 1: exact stand out.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Of at the time, So it all worked out.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, series of pretty much like having the songs and
- 4:09Speaker 1: then deconstructing them and going back into the projects and
- 4:11Speaker 1: working out what I've done and.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Then having to go backwards them.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's making a making, putting together a puzzle and
- 4:20Speaker 3: then ripping it apart again and then putting it back
- 4:23Speaker 3: together with a band.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Yeah. Happy to reverse engineer your own songs pretty much.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And that's it's a very fun experience.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I really enjoy it.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Oh that's good. That's good. And so what do you do?
- 4:33Speaker 4: Are you singer guitarist?
- 4:34Speaker 3: What's your I sing and play guitar.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Nice, nice, excellent, and so coming up with the girl.
- 4:40Speaker 2: You're doing some shows with them? Which ones are you guys?
- 4:43Speaker 2: They're going to be announcing.
- 4:44Speaker 3: People doing ten in total. We're doing Nice, We're doing like.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Canberra, Aubrey, two Melbourne shows, we're doing Brisbane and they're
- 4:55Speaker 1: Sydney in Bathist.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I think I've got them all there. But there's
- 5:00Speaker 3: a couple of double ups in each, like there's two albums,
- 5:02Speaker 3: two Brisbans.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, so you're not doing not going to be
- 5:06Speaker 4: doing the Buyer and Gold Coast run.
- 5:07Speaker 1: No, Unfortunately, I think they were already booked by the
- 5:10Speaker 1: time they hit us up, because those are like happening
- 5:13Speaker 1: within the next.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that happening yeah at the end of this month. Yeah. Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 4: so that's some that's exciting. They are amazing guys to
- 5:20Speaker 4: be able to play with it.
- 5:21Speaker 3: To meet them all, Yeah, they the nicest people.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Are not can roll, They're lovely.
- 5:26Speaker 2: You've definitely come in on a good end there, great
- 5:29Speaker 2: experience for you guys as well, Like that's awesome, so
- 5:31Speaker 2: totally yeah. Have you had any sort of like leverage
- 5:34Speaker 2: before before doing this or is this kind of like
- 5:37Speaker 2: your first big step.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Up we've we've had Yeah, this is our first. Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 1: this is the first tour we've ever been asked to join.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Definitely in terms of live shows, I reckon we've played
- 5:50Speaker 1: a few coins for this is these are definitely going
- 5:52Speaker 1: to be the most exciting. I think, Yeah awesome, which
- 5:55Speaker 1: is really cool.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It's kind of full circle for a couple of us, Like.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Player was had like snuck it into like Shada show
- 6:03Speaker 1: up at like Goma like when she was sixteen or something,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and Oli saw him when he was fifty when he's
- 6:10Speaker 1: like fifteen.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It's just like very cool. We're all very stoked.
- 6:14Speaker 4: It is. It is even for myself.
- 6:15Speaker 2: They were one of the very first bands I saw
- 6:17Speaker 2: at like fifteen and in the footy fields in the
- 6:19Speaker 2: Alumbar and like got crushed in the wash pit and
- 6:23Speaker 2: it was just like I was just like my colleagues
- 6:26Speaker 2: and like you know, you meet them and.
- 6:29Speaker 4: That's just amazing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Like you say, full circle and it's I don't mind
- 6:33Speaker 2: being middle aged now because all my favorite bands and
- 6:35Speaker 2: you know, doing anniversary tours or like coming back.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Really my misspent Youth. It's great.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Absolutely trip per visual.
- 6:44Speaker 4: So that's exciting. So what else do you guys got
- 6:46Speaker 4: on the plans for twenty twenty six, So look like.
- 6:53Speaker 1: We've got a new album coming out around the same
- 6:56Speaker 1: time as kicking off the tour with GERD which is awesome,
- 6:59Speaker 1: really cool. I'm really excited to put that out. It's
- 7:02Speaker 1: definitely like a step in a somewhat different direction and
- 7:07Speaker 1: kind of the same thing at the same time. Yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 1: which I'm really excited for everyone to hear. And Yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 1: trying to get to other places towards.
- 7:17Speaker 3: The end of the year. But there's nothing I can
- 7:21Speaker 3: say about that.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's fair.
- 7:24Speaker 3: It's in the world, but.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, certainly step it up.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, a couple of the shows here and there,
- 7:32Speaker 1: but yeah, mainly this is you know, taken up first
- 7:36Speaker 1: half of the year in the best way possible.
- 7:38Speaker 4: So absolutely.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So it's being sort of like a side project, has
- 7:43Speaker 2: it that's now become like full time.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Or yeah, pretty much exactly that, which is awesome, Like
- 7:48Speaker 1: it's you know, bands, But I think this this is
- 7:52Speaker 1: easily if I want to keep this band going, it's
- 7:55Speaker 1: going to take up all my time now.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah. And so had you finish you an ear? Is
- 7:58Speaker 4: that still?
- 7:59Speaker 3: Yeah? My degree? Nice years ago now.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, that's cool. How many is what did you
- 8:05Speaker 2: get your degree?
- 8:07Speaker 3: I did a Bachelor of Music made you.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Oh okay, and so they're not I'm running that in
- 8:12Speaker 2: southern across anywhere cut it off, yeah, which is really sad.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It brought so many creative people to the areas. How
- 8:19Speaker 1: I met all my friends and have come from like
- 8:22Speaker 1: far South Coast from Queensland like all to do music
- 8:26Speaker 1: and Lismore's so many cool bands and so much history too. Absolutely,
- 8:32Speaker 1: so many cool bands coming through, like what obviously gren
- 8:36Speaker 1: Spoon all from Lismore, but they did half of them
- 8:39Speaker 1: did the music course.
- 8:39Speaker 3: There you've got.
- 8:41Speaker 4: That's the best thing to come out of the Golden Hotel.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's really sad.
- 8:46Speaker 2: No, it is, it is, it's and yeah, there's been,
- 8:50Speaker 2: you know, a significant cut to the arts in terfory education,
- 8:53Speaker 2: which is really a shame moment.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I'm on schools too. I did Bachelor of Arts myself.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Major in writing, and so that sort of side of
- 8:59Speaker 2: things is it's just it's dying out and it's and
- 9:03Speaker 2: it shows.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Show.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 2: But well that's good that you were one of the
- 9:08Speaker 2: last last of the.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Last year to go through. My dad did the course
- 9:13Speaker 3: to and he was the first year to go through.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Oh wow, yes, yeah, I think I can remember even
- 9:17Speaker 2: when it started because it was like something new and.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Brought to the UNI.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And yeah, and it was well known for it had
- 9:24Speaker 2: you know, awards and accolades like, you know, internationally for
- 9:27Speaker 2: being such a good Yeah that's yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 4: So you based in Barrel? Now are you still based
- 9:34Speaker 4: on north This.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Is where my parents live. So we're all flying out together,
- 9:39Speaker 1: based up in our Rosebanks.
- 9:40Speaker 2: So just a couple of oh nice, nice, nice, and
- 9:43Speaker 2: so music obviously your full time?
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, pretty much. I have obviously a day job.
- 9:48Speaker 4: But you know that's yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Talk about Buddings Warehouse.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Come on, I love Buddings, all right, I love Buddings.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I'm glad someone does in this court.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Bunnings is I love Bunnings, but my bank account does not.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not. It's not. No one's ever going under
- 10:07Speaker 3: Bunnings to spend a couple of bucks normally.
- 10:09Speaker 2: But yeah, no, it's so it's evil. It's say that
- 10:11Speaker 2: came up. They tell you what you need.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Right, It's just the way it works now, doesn't it absolutely?
- 10:18Speaker 4: But yeah, so yeah, spent a considerable amount of my
- 10:21Speaker 4: income at that place I'm doing it. I've got some
- 10:24Speaker 4: amazing projects though, mind you.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So yeah, absolutely, a little bit of di y that's
- 10:30Speaker 1: the key for sure.
- 10:32Speaker 4: So you guys are what date are you kicking off
- 10:34Speaker 4: with the Gurdge.
- 10:36Speaker 3: First show is March thirteenth, Okay.
- 10:38Speaker 2: No, it'spake it a little bit of time to settle
- 10:41Speaker 2: the nerves down and get.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Pro We've got two more shows before that, so we're
- 10:44Speaker 1: gonna we've got this, We've got the set out, we're
- 10:46Speaker 1: going to make sure it's perfect.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be lots of fun.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Excellent, that's exciting.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Well, well, it's nice to meet you as well, and
- 10:57Speaker 2: media Puzzle watch this space. I'm sure we'll see good
