Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today is WASD Report Day.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Also, we're going to be chatting about the exports of pork and this record high diesel price that we've been seeing.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Live cattle were up not quite two bucks at 217.83.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle were up around a dollar and seventy-five at 327 and about a half.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs in the front month were up just three ticks in the back.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: They were all red, but the front month closed at 83.15.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like to shout out our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to trade the markets every single day.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And as I look here, December corn is at 529.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: November beans kind of came down overnight, but they're kind of making a slight rally now.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: They're at 1321 and a quarter.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Chicago, December wheat is at 738 even.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It has been really refreshing to look at the weather here recently.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: It wasn't there for a while, but now it is.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Sunday kicks off an exceptionally wet five-day stretch across the across the northwestern corn zone belt with core zones across Iowa and neighboring states projected to see around two to four inches.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Although, even though they're going to see this rain, Mr.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Craig Solberg is saying it shouldn't impact harvest too much.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: We'll see how that plays out.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But the cool thing, the really positive area, is that the winter wheat areas of the plains are set for an exceptionally beneficial 15-day stretch of rain with high model agreement on widespread above normal rainfall.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Great to see that happening.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And here's the big headline for today.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: It is report day.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The WASDI comes out at 11 a.m.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Central today.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: There will be some volatility today.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: So expect that.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Call your broker, call us.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: We'd love to hear from you at 855-737.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: I'll just go ahead and pop on our phone numbers.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: That way I don't get it wrong, like Davis did yesterday at 855-737 Farm.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Go ahead and call us anytime.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: On to the livestock market discussion.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: The change in U.S.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: pork in exports by destination is this chart that I have popped up there.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: This is year over year change, green being more exports, red being less.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And essentially, what it boils down to is that July marks the second straight decline in US pork exports.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And pretty much the only positive thing is that we're exporting more to Japan.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: If we remove them from the conversation, it our outlook doesn't look so great.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Also, on the flip side of this, when it comes to imports, we're importing more than ever from Canada.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And if that you know starts to change, maybe we can see a demand for more internal production if you know this northern border, if we kind of lock down some of the things that happen up there.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: The hog market might be interesting to follow here for the next coming months.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: The chart of the day, and I'm sure you guys have already heard or even seen at the pump, but diesel hits record high prices.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: In California and some places, they have full-on maxed out the limit to which the fuel prices can go.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Diesel is$9.99 because that's as high as the green numbers on the chart or on the sign next to the highway can go.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: And this is essentially boiled down to a refinery problem because the price of gasoline is incredibly disconnected right now, even though the price of crude has shot up.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Diesel has took that and ran with it exponentially.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And as we work towards harvest here, this certainly increases some you know production costs.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, a lot of you guys got your fuel prices contracted.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: If not, Trish trying to run a lot of machinery this fall could be pretty pricey.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar calendar for today, there's some big ones that come out.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: The CPI comes out here probably right as I release this.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Go ahead and look at that.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: There's some important things that might come out of that report.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Export sales come out at the same time.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: The University of Michigan sentiment comes out at 9 a.m.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: And the WASDI report, that's the big one, folks, comes out at 11 a.m.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Central Time.
