- 0:32Uh, yes, I am as ready as I always am.
- 0:35Wait, how's my hair?
- 0:37But anyway, okay, welcome to drive through episode number 49, our monthly recap where
- 0:43we put together a menu of automotive, motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:47Now let's pull up to window number one.
- 0:49For some automotive news.
- 0:50Did you notice that Tanya already has her popcorn?
- 0:53She is ready for tonight.
- 0:55Is this the Florida Man episode?
- 0:57No, this is better.
- 0:58Tonight, we are bonded in the love of storytelling.
- 1:02Because tonight, tonight, tonight.
- 1:06Whoa, that old Genesis song was the Genesis or Phil Collins.
- 1:10I can't remember.
- 1:11Is there really a difference?
- 1:12Yeah.
- 1:13It's the same lead singer.
- 1:14It's not that different.
- 1:15It's like, is there a difference between Bon Jovi and John Bon Jovi?
- 1:18No, not really.
- 1:19It's the same shit.
- 1:20Yeah.
- 1:20No, I've got a bone to pick with this intro though, because we only pull
- 1:23up to window number one, but I guess it's kind of like when you go through
- 1:26a drive through nowadays, they've got two windows, you really just go
- 1:29to the first one or the second one and that's it, it's just one window.
- 1:32Window number one.
- 1:33Here we go.
- 1:34What are we doing today?
- 1:35Only a few times in the 49 drive throughs that we've had over the
- 1:39last few seasons have we really taken a step into the personal.
- 1:43Again, sharing the love of storytelling.
- 1:45And this month it was almost, and I hate this word, serendipitous that certain
- 1:50articles lended themselves to events that had been going on in my life.
- 1:55It's going to be a little bit of a personal showcase this time.
- 1:58We're going to talk about Buford T.
- 2:00Justice, Roscoe Picotrain, and maybe Judge Dredd in there.
- 2:03You know, I am the law.
- 2:06Judge Jerry Executioner.
- 2:08But I got to back up a little bit because I got to set the stage for our listeners.
- 2:12Now, some of our listeners, May know just before back to school.
- 2:16So somewhere in between the last drive through in this one, my wife broke her
- 2:20ankle pretty bad in three places, surgery.
- 2:23We're talking deck screws and metal plates and weeks and weeks and weeks
- 2:27of recovery and stuff like that.
- 2:29And how did she do it again?
- 2:30She was wrestling a bear, right?
- 2:31She was hiking and got literally stuck between a rock and a hard place.
- 2:36That being said.
- 2:37I am on the road more now every day of every week than
- 2:42I have been in probably years.
- 2:44And you guys already know how I feel about being in traffic.
- 2:48It's a Herculean effort.
- 2:49I'm doing a lot of stuff, running around, all these kinds of things.
- 2:53In the early part of this, I'm trying to get some stuff just done around the house.
- 2:57And I was like, you know what?
- 2:57I'm going to run to Home Depot because I've been driving the minivan for so long.
- 3:01I was like, you know what?
- 3:02My station wagon has been sitting.
- 3:04I'm going to take it into town just to drive it, to get
- 3:06it out of its parking spot.
- 3:07And hopefully the tires aren't square.
- 3:09So I head off into town.
- 3:11It's not like super early in the morning, like contractor early, you
- 3:15know, got to be at Home Depot to pick up my Tesla replacement parts
- 3:18at six in the morning type of deal.
- 3:19It was after 8am.
- 3:21I go there.
- 3:22I get what I need.
- 3:23I'm coming back and there's a major intersection traffic light.
- 3:27There's a wawa there and it's three lanes that can turn left
- 3:30and one that can turn right.
- 3:32So it's actually a really, really wide intersection and I'm the
- 3:35first car in the middle lane and there's a bunch of cars behind me.
- 3:38Beautiful day, absolutely gorgeous weather, had the windows down.
- 3:42I didn't even have the radio on.
- 3:43I was just enjoying that Saturday morning.
- 3:46In my old car, right, the light turns green and I just
- 3:50proceed to take off like normal.
- 3:52I'm not doing anything stupid.
- 3:53I've lived in this town for what feels like forever now.
- 3:56And I had noticed in the two weeks prior that the town was just crawling with cops,
- 4:01you know, in their normal hiding places.
- 4:03And then they're in the bushes and then they're in camouflage
- 4:05and all this kind of thing.
- 4:06And I'm like, you know what?
- 4:07I'm not here to burn the carbon out of the intake.
- 4:10I just, you know, Want to drive the car, drive a manual transmission car and just
- 4:14enjoy this beautiful Saturday morning.
- 4:15So I'm coming home from the home depot, a little short shift for a second gear.
- 4:20I'm going below the speed limit and through traffic.
- 4:23I see behind me, this gray Ford Explorer come.
- 4:27Flying up on just like what the hell so my eyes got a little big and I'm
- 4:31like, okay and All the lights go off.
- 4:34I'm like, what did I do?
- 4:36Am I going too slow?
- 4:37Did something fall off you can imagine what happened
- 4:40next license and registration?
- 4:42I've been through this not my first rodeo I'm, like, excuse me officer.
- 4:45Is there a problem?
- 4:46Is there something I can help you with?
- 4:48He didn't already like that.
- 4:49You know, they start their speech.
- 4:50Please understand that you're under recording and blah, blah, blah.
- 4:53Everything you say and do and blah, blah, blah.
- 4:55Like, okay, great.
- 4:55Yeah, I get it.
- 4:56Your camera's like in my nostril at this point.
- 4:59And he proceeds to tell me that my car was Unnecessarily loud and frightening.
- 5:05Which car was this?
- 5:06This is the Wookiee wagon.
- 5:07My VR6 station wagon.
- 5:08I had to bite my tongue.
- 5:10So I responded and I said, Really?
- 5:12Do you happen to have a decibel meter on your truck?
- 5:15Can you tell me how loud it is?
- 5:17And he looked at me like I was a Cerberus from hell with three heads.
- 5:21I didn't know if he didn't know what I was talking about, but I was flat out like,
- 5:24how can you tell me if my car is too loud?
- 5:26Meanwhile, my blood is like starting to boil.
- 5:29Cause I'm like, this is stupid.
- 5:30What did you pull me over for?
- 5:31Cause I wasn't speeding.
- 5:33I wasn't doing anything dumb.
- 5:34I was in the right lane.
- 5:36No, I didn't do a burnout at the traffic light.
- 5:38I'm minding my own business coming home from Home Depot.
- 5:41Like, what do you want from me?
- 5:42We joke about this all the time because you're a very well bearded man.
- 5:46But how much of this do you think could be profiling because you don't look like
- 5:49the normal demographic in that area?
- 5:51That's what I said.
- 5:52I thought about that.
- 5:53I remember when we were coming home from Texas from CODA and you got
- 5:57stopped, you know, the random check.
- 6:01Checkpoint, I've got a photo evidence to prove it.
- 6:03They frisked you and went all up and down your crotch.
- 6:06Meanwhile, you could have been carrying anything and everything.
- 6:09And you walked through like it was nothing.
- 6:11I look like, you know, the good old boy.
- 6:13I mean, it was beginning of September when this happened to you.
- 6:18And September is a particular month in this country.
- 6:21Now, not saying anything.
- 6:22You look at the old profile pictures and the headshots, My hair is much shorter.
- 6:27I've let my hair grow out.
- 6:28Your beard has grown out a lot.
- 6:30But I have a lot of white in my beard too.
- 6:32So when he came around the corner, I think he was like, Oh, this is older guy.
- 6:35And this little hot rod is scared.
- 6:37And but yes, I did think about that.
- 6:39Being of olive skin.
- 6:42It's like, you know, how much of that does play in, you know, he
- 6:45was blonde haired and blue eyed.
- 6:46I don't know what to say about that.
- 6:48Again, I don't think about things that way.
- 6:50People are people and people do people things and that's that.
- 6:53Move on with life.
- 6:54That's not how the world works.
- 6:55I know, I know, I live in a bubble.
- 6:57I wonder if he's gonna pull over Santa Claus.
- 6:59Oh yeah, Tanya brought that up.
- 7:01She's like, there's another guy with a VR6 GTI running around and it makes noise too.
- 7:06Apparently he looks like Santa Claus.
- 7:07He looks straight up like Santa Claus.
- 7:09Is Santa Claus driving a Mark 4 VR6?
- 7:13Delivering audible treats to all the little boys and girls.
- 7:16Okay, first of all, can you argue as a VR6 owner that the VR6 sounds bad?
- 7:21I mean, it sounds fucking amazing.
- 7:23Thank you.
- 7:24It's one of the best sounding engines of all time.
- 7:26Other than V8s, and then a select few like straight sixes and stuff
- 7:30like that, the VR6 is one of the best sounding motors ever produced.
- 7:34But even at full song, the VR6 is quieter than the Nissan VQ, because those,
- 7:39those, those Three fifties are allowed the infinities and all those, the GTRs
- 7:43and a straight six BMW is really shrill.
- 7:46Like if you want to talk about a startling engine, the VR six is not it.
- 7:50It sounds like a freaking Wookiee, but anyway, I digress.
- 7:53I don't know why he was expecting to get any money out of you.
- 7:55You were driving a 22 year old Volkswagen.
- 7:58It's blood out of a turn up.
- 7:59Thank you.
- 8:00Thank you.
- 8:01Thank you.
- 8:01Well, what I think he wanted was to get me for something, because I
- 8:04got a loud car, and I got a lowered car, and it's a station wagon.
- 8:07It's not like I'm running around in a Camaro with a roots blower on it, right?
- 8:11It's just a freaking 20 year old Volkswagen, who cares?
- 8:14So then he proceeds to tell me, well, you know, you have a taillight out.
- 8:17Oh, the old taillight trick, right?
- 8:20Did he smash it with a nightstick before he came up?
- 8:23Man, if he had done that, that would have hurt.
- 8:25Cause I got European taillights, but Tanya had actually told me and
- 8:28I forgot like a week or two prior.
- 8:30She's like, you're right rear taillights out.
- 8:31Yeah, I got to change that.
- 8:32But in the midst of everything that's been happening at home,
- 8:35I totally forgot about it.
- 8:36Okay.
- 8:37I need a brake light.
- 8:37Thank you, officer.
- 8:38I didn't know.
- 8:39You know, I never get to see the back of my car.
- 8:41So I'm trying to be nice because he's already pissed me
- 8:43off with this exhaust thing.
- 8:45Right?
- 8:45So license registration goes back to the car.
- 8:48He's back there for a while.
- 8:49I'm like, ah, God damn it.
- 8:51What kind of ticket is he gonna hit me with?
- 8:53Again, I didn't do anything and he didn't say I was speeding because I wasn't.
- 8:56I was actually under the speed limit.
- 8:58Like I said, I knew they had been crawling and they were all kind of in the area.
- 9:01He didn't have a gun on you anyway.
- 9:03There's no way he He comes back and he's like, I have two pieces of paper for you.
- 9:07I'm like, oh, geez, Louise, what the hell is this?
- 9:10He's like, well, the first one's a repair order for your taillight.
- 9:13You need to take it somewhere and have it fixed.
- 9:14I'm like, I can fucking fix it at home.
- 9:16And I sort of said that, but not in that way.
- 9:18I said, okay, I'm going to go home.
- 9:20It's going to take me five minutes.
- 9:21We really have to go through this process.
- 9:23He's like, yep.
- 9:23I was like, okay, that's how he's going to get under my skin.
- 9:26because he can't give me a speeding ticket because again, I wasn't speeding.
- 9:29Then he gives me another warning on top of that.
- 9:32And this is what really just irked me and pissed me off.
- 9:35He starts off by saying, you know, I, I know Volkswagen because you know, this and
- 9:40that, and it shouldn't be unnecessarily loud like this and blah, blah, blah.
- 9:44And he goes, you know, your muffler cut off.
- 9:45And I'm like, no, no, no, no.
- 9:46So you can look under my car.
- 9:48I have a catalytic converter.
- 9:50a resonator and a full exhaust.
- 9:52I, I don't understand what you're talking about.
- 9:54And he's like, well, I'm not looking, I'm not looking under your car.
- 9:56I'm like, I'm telling you, it's all there.
- 9:58Well, that's not the exhaust that this car came with.
- 10:00And I said, okay, well the original one rotted off the car and this
- 10:04is what I put on to replace it.
- 10:06And what's funny is I went back afterwards because I kind of started doubting myself.
- 10:09I bought my exhaust from Tectonics.
- 10:12It's DOT approved as a replacement exhaust.
- 10:14So in my head, I'm like, again, running these scenarios and I said to him, where
- 10:17am I supposed to get a replacement exhaust for an almost 22 year old Volkswagen?
- 10:21And he's like, well, that's not my problem.
- 10:23Okay, well now you're just an asshole, right?
- 10:25And I'm like, fine, I'll just live with that.
- 10:27And mind you, when I was pulled over, I let it sit in idle and it just sits there
- 10:32and it's not like it lopes like a V8.
- 10:34It's pretty subdued at idle.
- 10:35Like you got to kind of go, Oh, is it running?
- 10:37You mean you can have a conversation with a police officer at idle?
- 10:40A hundred percent.
- 10:40But what really got under my skin, you know, after he's
- 10:43like, you know, have a nice day.
- 10:45And I was like, you know, thanks again for letting me know about the brake light.
- 10:47So I sit there and I read this warning and I'm going to read it to
- 10:50you exactly the way it's written.
- 10:52Motor vehicle not equipped with exhaust muffler system.
- 10:56Unlawful use of muffler cutoff.
- 10:59Which he didn't check to see if that's even accurate.
- 11:02You told him to look under the car, he refused to.
- 11:04And if this was a TRO, or repair order, first of all I'd get a
- 11:08lawyer involved, because there's a bunch of things on there.
- 11:10On this particular warning that are incorrect that first
- 11:14would get this thrown out.
- 11:15But second of all, the first mechanic that puts the car in the air goes,
- 11:18what the hell are you talking about?
- 11:19There's a cat, there's a resonator, and there's a muffler with a tip.
- 11:22There's no cutoff.
- 11:23There's no bypass.
- 11:24This is a DOT approved replacement exhaust for my car.
- 11:27It's what I could afford to buy.
- 11:29And it's what I put on there.
- 11:30It's not my problem if it's louder and you can't tell me
- 11:32what the definition of loud is.
- 11:35How about the fact that it passes emissions every two years, every year.
- 11:38And that's the other thing I thought was.
- 11:40grace.
- 11:41I got together wit called one of our club me cop and I told him the sto man, that
- 11:46guy was fishing know, he was a young cop, academy, you know, all th and he goes,
- 11:52you're lucky with the repair order for the fact that he's got yo these things,
- 11:59he's like, hold up and it'd be a nuis For everybody, because I'd fight this, this is
- 12:03ridiculous, and I'm not running straight pipes, I'm not running a side pipe with
- 12:07no mufflers or anything ridiculous.
- 12:09His badge number and name is on the paper?
- 12:11Oh yeah, it's all here.
- 12:12I would call, and I would talk to his superior, and I would
- 12:16file a complaint for harassment.
- 12:17I'm not that type of person, but it pisses me off, but the story continues.
- 12:22Me and my big dooly went, ah!
- 12:23Yeah, and the Mustang guy coming from the cars and coffee went by
- 12:27at 70 mile an hour with his open pipe, so that wasn't a problem.
- 12:29I'm in the little German car.
- 12:31Fur and car don't belong around here.
- 12:33You know, I'm, I'm like one of two in the area.
- 12:35Yeah, I have the other one.
- 12:38So I go over to the inspection place, which was interesting to
- 12:41even find a place that would do a safety equipment repair order.
- 12:44Right.
- 12:44So that was the whole thing.
- 12:46So I get over there and it was recommended by one of our sponsors, you know,
- 12:49Hey, this is where we take our cars.
- 12:50Don't bother with the local Firestone or with the whatever, this and that.
- 12:54So I go over there early on a Monday morning and I walk in the door and
- 12:58this lady looks at me and I look at her and she's like, what do you want?
- 13:01And it's that voice, like the caseworker in Beetlejuice.
- 13:05She's been smoking a pack a day for the last 30 years.
- 13:08What's your problem?
- 13:09Why are you here?
- 13:09We just get to chit chatting a little bit and I said, look, I got this repair order.
- 13:13That's for the taillight.
- 13:14I hate to bother you guys with this, but it's a bother to me as well.
- 13:17And she's like, yeah, these cops, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 13:20They've been on the war path the last two weeks.
- 13:22You know, they've been putting up blockades throughout the county,
- 13:24pulling people over, looking at their license plates and
- 13:27registrations and this and that.
- 13:28And I was like, wow, I didn't know that, but I knew something was up.
- 13:31We get to talking a little bit more.
- 13:33And I said, You know, it could have been worse.
- 13:35And she goes, well, what do you mean?
- 13:36And I said, you know, he gave me a warning for my exhaust.
- 13:38She goes, I didn't even hear you come in.
- 13:40What kind of car do you have?
- 13:42I'm like, okay.
- 13:43And she goes, you're telling me he was scared?
- 13:46He was scared of your car?
- 13:47I need to see this thing.
- 13:49And I'm like, okay.
- 13:50So we walk outside.
- 13:51She immediately starts laughing.
- 13:53And she's not laughing because she is laughing at my car.
- 13:55Laughing at the situation.
- 13:56Because now she recognizes the situation, right?
- 13:59She's like, you gotta be kidding me.
- 14:01So she looks at my car and she's like, you know, this is really nice.
- 14:04You should take it to shows and like blah, blah, blah.
- 14:06And I said, you know, it's just my Sunday grocery getter.
- 14:09Like literally, I just like driving it around town and on the B roads and,
- 14:13you know, minding my own business.
- 14:14Another guy from the shop shows up and, you know, we chit chat
- 14:17and talking about the car and this and that and got the hood open.
- 14:20And she's looking at all the things I've done to it.
- 14:22You know, she's a car gal.
- 14:23And she starts telling me about.
- 14:24I can't believe you'd get pulled over in this and blah, blah.
- 14:28It's the way she worded it.
- 14:30She was going off about her Mustang that she built.
- 14:32She's apparently got a Camaro as well.
- 14:34Some pro street car.
- 14:35She's like, God forbid they find me.
- 14:37My car's a bright red and super loud.
- 14:39And she's like, I'm going to jail.
- 14:41Right?
- 14:41So we're just BS in a little bit.
- 14:43And then she's like, all right, I need to hear how scary your car is.
- 14:48I fired up.
- 14:50She's got this big grin on her face.
- 14:52Was that it?
- 14:53Blip the throttle to like 2, 500 and then she goes, Yeah, that sounds good!
- 14:58I'm like, oh my god.
- 14:59Real country girl, right?
- 15:00And I mean, I was eating it up.
- 15:02And she's like, I'll be happy to sign your paper.
- 15:04Get on out of here and have yourself a blessed day.
- 15:07You have made my day.
- 15:08And she just started laughing.
- 15:09She's like, this is unreal, right?
- 15:11Needless to say, we got all that taken care of.
- 15:14But I was just like, come on, man.
- 15:16Seriously?
- 15:17And I've only had this happen to me one other time.
- 15:20And this was in my old drape five Audi coupe.
- 15:23And I had a full exhaust on that too, but it would reverberate off the
- 15:26buildings in like downtown Baltimore.
- 15:28And I went to go pick up my wife and I got pulled over like within a block.
- 15:32Cause they were like, why are you street racing?
- 15:35And it was another one of these, I was like.
- 15:37Dude, I'm like a block from power plant live.
- 15:39Like, where am I going to go?
- 15:41The streets are as wide as a Fiat 500.
- 15:43Like, are you kidding me?
- 15:44That time they tried to get me on a front license plate for that car,
- 15:48but I literally had the plate on the passenger floor with a broken bracket.
- 15:52I'm like, it broke off the car earlier today.
- 15:54Like I need to order the part.
- 15:56So they sort of like, let me go, but it was all like, you know,
- 15:58lights and sirens and we're good.
- 16:01You know, I'm like, come on, man, I'm not trying to be a public nuisance here.
- 16:05I'm really not.
- 16:06I'm too old for this stuff.
- 16:08But Tanya, you know, as we were talking about this and discussing this and kind of
- 16:11peeling it apart, you discovered something new and it's in the news now about some
- 16:15changes that are happening in our fair state with respect to the sound of cars.
- 16:20Yeah, I'm in trouble because the MoCo is trying to get bill passed that
- 16:23they're going to put noise cameras up.
- 16:25throughout good old MoCo, Maryland.
- 16:27Can you believe that?
- 16:27Basically a speed camera, but sound.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:30With a decibel meter on it.
- 16:31They're going to catch you at the speed of sound.
- 16:33Take your phone.
- 16:33Your decibels are too high.
- 16:36So what's going to happen is we're all going to rev and then
- 16:40drop it in neutral when we all know where the sound cameras are.
- 16:43And we're going to coast by and then we're going to downshift and floor it.
- 16:46All your experience at Lime Rock has paid off.
- 16:50That is so true because people actually do that where the sound meters are.
- 16:53And I've heard they do that at Summit Point and some other places as well.
- 16:56So, I mean, as racers, we kind of know those games or get the dryer vent, more
- 17:00Home Depot parts and turn it away so that the sound is, you know, pushing
- 17:04the other with a Doppler effect.
- 17:06I literally did this in town coming back yesterday through the car in neutral.
- 17:09Cause I was like, Passing a cop with his window open and I like threw the
- 17:12car in neutral and like ghosted by him.
- 17:15Because of all of this, your experience hearing the Montgomery County thing,
- 17:19like all flashed in my head and I was like, crap, not that I was doing
- 17:23anything because I could have just gone by at the speed I was going.
- 17:26It was, it wouldn't have been anything, but I was like, I'm not taking a chance.
- 17:28Yeah.
- 17:29Yeah.
- 17:30Not right now.
- 17:31Maryland is just a great place to live.
- 17:32It's going the way of California.
- 17:34I go back to that article from May where we talked about, you know, how loud
- 17:39exhausts are attractive to people with criminal minds and psychopaths and this
- 17:44and that, but it really got in my head.
- 17:45I haven't driven the car since, and I shouldn't feel guilty to drive my own car.
- 17:50I have regular plates on it.
- 17:52I have a legal DOT approved exhaust.
- 17:54Make a copy of your paperwork and put it in the car.
- 17:57You know what I do keep in the car now is a spare taillight bulb.
- 17:59I was gonna say, the other lesson learned here is have a spare
- 18:02taillight bulb in your car.
- 18:03You also might want to get a decibel meter.
- 18:05I do actually want to get one, which you actually can download.
- 18:08There's some apps you can just download on your phone.
- 18:09Yeah, I would, I would do that.
- 18:11And I'm curious.
- 18:12I would almost look up the ones that the cops Allegedly use I
- 18:15don't I would have the same model.
- 18:17I just have it sit in the car.
- 18:18Well look officer This says it was at 95.
- 18:21What's the legal limit 102?
- 18:23Oh, you'd be in violation at 95 guarantee Is it posted anywhere?
- 18:27I mean i'm guaranteeing every state is different But what scares me is normally
- 18:31stuff like this comes from california first and it's weird that it's happening
- 18:35here on the east coast Oh, no, it's not.
- 18:37It's montgomery county.
- 18:37This is normal Well, what i'm saying is if other states buy into this Now
- 18:41suddenly it's like Switzerland where the cars have to be whisper quiet.
- 18:45So there's been a noise camera in Laurel for, I don't know, decades now.
- 18:49And how many times have you blown by it at wide open throttle?
- 18:52Never, because I know it's there, but there's also speed
- 18:54cameras on that same road.
- 18:55But it's on a road that's Directly with like apartments on either side.
- 19:00I understand in that area there was probably some dipshit that kept doing
- 19:04burnouts, waking everybody up at all hours of the night and they did that.
- 19:08So if they want to put noise cameras in a very tight residential area, I
- 19:12don't like it but I'd understand it.
- 19:14If it's on like an open road that you're not bothering anybody, that's BS.
- 19:19Instead of catching the criminals, they just punish everybody else.
- 19:22Well, that's the problem.
- 19:23And there it is.
- 19:24And that's something I noticed being in traffic.
- 19:26And it's something that I thought is super illegal.
- 19:30And maybe I'm wrong, but please correct me.
- 19:32I'm seeing a lot more tinted windshields.
- 19:36Yes.
- 19:36And I'm not talking just like, oh, we put like a foot and a half of black.
- 19:41across the top.
- 19:42I've seen two tone where it's super dark limo tint on the first half
- 19:45and then it's dark on the bottom.
- 19:47And then I've seen like all black where you can't see the
- 19:49driver and it's super obvious.
- 19:52If I can't see you, not that I really want to see you in your car, but if I
- 19:56can't see you, your glass is tinted.
- 19:57Some of them are reflective on top of that, like polarizing, which is really
- 20:01distracting in your rear view mirror.
- 20:03And I'm like, that's illegal everywhere in the United It's like, how are
- 20:07those folks not getting pulled over?
- 20:10But you're worried about me in my Volkswagen, which at cruise
- 20:14altitude doing 50 miles an hour, the car gets really quiet.
- 20:18So I'm going to say low hanging fruit.
- 20:21You are the lower chance of causing a headache in that guy's day.
- 20:25The person with willing to do the tenant windows is probably.
- 20:28Doing some other nefarious things and you're just JoBlo citizen
- 20:32just trying to putt around.
- 20:33I think you're, you were low hanging fruit.
- 20:35Why waste the time to pull me over?
- 20:36Especially if I wasn't speeding.
- 20:38Come on.
- 20:38Like what's the point?
- 20:39He saw that brake light after you pulled over.
- 20:41That's true too.
- 20:42Well, if you were in a light though, he may have saw it at the light.
- 20:45So that's the thing about that traffic light.
- 20:47I couldn't see him because I'm always kind of Scanning and looking around,
- 20:50make sure, you know, some dump truck isn't coming without breaks.
- 20:53But he was so far back in the line that I didn't see him.
- 20:57He was grasping at straws the whole time.
- 20:59Right.
- 20:59And he heard me because I was the first in line of the three cars as we're
- 21:04turning and I stuck out like a sore thumb.
- 21:06'cause it's like, oh, look at that car.
- 21:08That goodness.
- 21:09But he probably thought I was gonna do a smoky burnout and run
- 21:12down at a hundred miles an hour.
- 21:13But you know, what else is funny is not even a half mile down from that
- 21:17intersection is the police barracks.
- 21:19I'm not an idiot.
- 21:20I'm not going to go blow and buy there at a hundred miles an hour.
- 21:23Like that's literally the dumbest thing you could do.
- 21:25I would have gone straight there.
- 21:27I'd have pulled right in there with my little notice and said, I want to file
- 21:30a complaint against officer Buford here.
- 21:32Well, and that's what our friend said.
- 21:34The former cop, he's like, go change your bulb and drive right
- 21:37over to the barracks right now and get them to sign the paperwork.
- 21:39And I was like, you know what?
- 21:40I'm not going to tempt fate.
- 21:41that this guy is gonna be there.
- 21:44I just don't want to do it.
- 21:45What would he have gotten you on?
- 21:46He can get you on a lot on that car, technically.
- 21:49Lowered suspension, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:52Oh, all these stupid marijuana laws that I don't have to deal with.
- 21:54That's right.
- 21:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:55Just wait.
- 21:56It'll come to you too.
- 21:57On rural Virginia.
- 21:59But let's face it.
- 22:00It could be worse.
- 22:01Have you heard about all the tunes and the tuners and all the shops?
- 22:06That are closing.
- 22:07Cobb just got charged that they owe like 2.9 million, almost 3
- 22:11million or something like that.
- 22:123 million for selling.
- 22:13Basically what the EPA is qualifying as emissions defeat devices.
- 22:18Are they wrong?
- 22:19No.
- 22:20No.
- 22:21The way tunes are designed today, I would say there's more of that going on
- 22:25because like Brad's car and my car, or even your car, Tanya, you get a chip.
- 22:29It's not really designed to change emissions.
- 22:32It's designed to remap, let's say the VE table, the volumetric efficiency table
- 22:36or the timing table or whatever it is.
- 22:38Give you a little bit more fuel, a little bit more rev or whatever it is,
- 22:41but they weren't going in there and systematically turning off functions
- 22:45of the engine to bypass, let's say particulate filters or exhaust gas
- 22:48recirculation or things like that.
- 22:50So I understand where does this end?
- 22:52I'm sure there's a cutoff where they'll retroactively say, okay, well if you got a
- 22:56tune on a 20 year old car, we don't care.
- 22:58This is clinching down on the aftermarket.
- 23:00If you pass emissions with a tune today on a modern car, let's say it's a Subaru
- 23:06or a Volkswagen or a Mazda or whatever.
- 23:08If you pass, does it matter?
- 23:10Like how are the drivers and the owners going to suffer from
- 23:14what Cobb is going through?
- 23:15Like what's the butterfly effect of this?
- 23:17I'm just dumbfounded.
- 23:18I don't even know what to say about this.
- 23:20If that wasn't bad enough and you were talking about, you know,
- 23:23we're all here in the DMV together suffering equally in some ways.
- 23:26There are worse states.
- 23:27No doubt.
- 23:28Ours don't even make the list of the worst states to be a car owner in.
- 23:32Well, I know number one is California.
- 23:34Oh, 100 percent.
- 23:35My guess is Colorado is another.
- 23:37Oh, it sucks to be in Washington D.
- 23:39C.
- 23:39owning a car.
- 23:40D.
- 23:41C.
- 23:41didn't make the list either.
- 23:42We won't do the whole Letterman thing.
- 23:44Check this out.
- 23:45Here's the surprise ones to me.
- 23:47New Mexico and Arkansas.
- 23:49Alaska, that's sort of obvious.
- 23:51Brad, you're 100 percent right.
- 23:52Colorado's on that list.
- 23:53Oregon's on that list too.
- 23:55California's on that list.
- 23:57You've got Georgia, Nevada, and tied for third, Florida.
- 24:02I disagree.
- 24:02Florida is surprising to me.
- 24:04But the things that they include like fuel costs and car insurance,
- 24:07I was thinking, you know, pivoting from our last discussion, I was
- 24:10thinking it'd be more on like the, like the EPA and the restrictions.
- 24:14This isn't just registration fees, right?
- 24:16This is the most expensive states in the country to own a car today.
- 24:20Okay.
- 24:20Cause I was going to call BS because Texas should not like Maryland can't
- 24:24not be on this list of Texas is there.
- 24:26I know how much registration was, but.
- 24:28Per year in Texas and Maryland has now exceeded that.
- 24:31Well, I'm glad you brought that up because I had to renew
- 24:34the registration on the Jeep.
- 24:36I got to tell you, it is, it was probably 70%.
- 24:40It is a 58 percent increase over two years ago.
- 24:445, 000 pound vehicles in this state, 187 for two years.
- 24:48And a lot of people are going, Oh, compared to my state, that's cheap.
- 24:51California, man, like thousand dollars.
- 24:53I've heard stories and stuff.
- 24:55And there's other places that are super cheap where it's like Ohio.
- 24:57And it's like 40 bucks to register your car kind of deal.
- 24:59But when you go from 187, which was already a price increase
- 25:03from when it was one foot.
- 25:0449 and before that it was like 127 and whatever, it's jumped through
- 25:09COVID and now 323 for two years.
- 25:13It was really hilarious as I got the letter in the mail from the DMV, I walk
- 25:17in and I'm talking to my wife and I said, this is the most expensive sticker
- 25:20I've ever put on anything in my life.
- 25:22Cause that's all you get.
- 25:23No, you get a little three by three part.
- 25:25That piece of paper is worth it.
- 25:27You get a sticker that says, Oh, you'll get pulled over for something else.
- 25:33And I sort of wondered to myself like why all this stuff isn't
- 25:35digital, why it even matters.
- 25:37There should be almost a barcode on your tag that they could
- 25:41just scan and look up and see if your registration is up to date.
- 25:44You know, it's almost like they can pull your plates.
- 25:47It's almost like they can just read your tag and look up information
- 25:50about you in the DMV system.
- 25:52No.
- 25:53They can't do that now?
- 25:54This is Star Trek, dude.
- 25:55technology you're talking about.
- 25:57Oh my god, beam me up Scotty.
- 25:58Although I do kind of like being a look at people and being like, look at this hasn't
- 26:02renewed his tags in like five years.
- 26:04But again, that guy's not getting pulled over.
- 26:06No getting pulled over for having a one out of your two
- 26:09license plate lights burned out.
- 26:11because they were 20 years old.
- 26:12That happened to me another time too.
- 26:14Luckily, I didn't get a repair order for that one, but I was like,
- 26:16again, thank you for telling me.
- 26:18Okay.
- 26:19Is it really that important?
- 26:20No.
- 26:21Okay.
- 26:21Meanwhile, what about that guy who just drove by?
- 26:23His muffler's dragging on the ground.
- 26:25Hold on.
- 26:25Hold on.
- 26:25Wait, wait, wait.
- 26:26I heard a Mustang.
- 26:27Are there sirens?
- 26:28Oh, come on.
- 26:30What about every Altima on the road?
- 26:32Please.
- 26:32That's unfair.
- 26:33You're targeting.
- 26:34Not to get political, but how many of these states are liberal run states?
- 26:37Our fair state is questionable every other day of the week.
- 26:39So I don't know.
- 26:40But this continues.
- 26:41Okay.
- 26:41This continues.
- 26:42So we got more.
- 26:43Oh, you're, you're kidding.
- 26:45Oh, wait, there's more.
- 26:47I love this.
- 26:48So I told you it's personal.
- 26:50This whole showcases the stories of what's happened over the last month.
- 26:53Look at this guy.
- 26:53He doesn't drive anywhere.
- 26:55And then like he's driving somewhere for like, Two weeks
- 26:57and look at all these stories.
- 26:59All right, what's next?
- 26:59So I'm back in the minivan driving the kids to the city, all
- 27:02this kind of stuff for school.
- 27:03And I decided I'm going to work remote.
- 27:06I'm going to be closer to school because if something happens when the
- 27:08kids get sick, I don't want to have to drive all the way and get stuck in
- 27:11traffic and all this kind of thing.
- 27:12So I'm going to do my homework.
- 27:14And I did way too much like I do when I buy anything.
- 27:17I'm going to buy myself.
- 27:19an electric scooter to get around town.
- 27:21It's going to be super cool.
- 27:22So let me tell you, it's really difficult to find adult rated EV scooters that
- 27:28A, are the right weight requirement, balance of power, range, and then speed.
- 27:35So those are sort of like the four categories, right?
- 27:37You have to look at, and it started reminding me of like,
- 27:39if I was purchasing an electric vehicle, I got to look at weight.
- 27:42I got to look at speed.
- 27:43I got to look at range, anxiety is a thing on the scooter as well.
- 27:47Let me tell you.
- 27:48I ended up buying a Varla Wasp, which comes in as the lightest adult scooter.
- 27:54It doesn't have the highest top speed, but it has decent range,
- 27:57but lightest at 32 pounds.
- 28:00The ones that like really haul ass, like a Lime or a Spin or some of the
- 28:05other ones you see in the city, those things can weigh upwards of 50, 60,
- 28:1080, 100 pounds, because the faster you go, the more battery you need.
- 28:14And if you're running dual motor, which mine is not, mine's a single 350 watt
- 28:18motor, it can save all that weight.
- 28:20But the problem is it's not very fast.
- 28:23So again, I'm in the city.
- 28:24It's pretty hilly.
- 28:25And what I noticed right away was I either have to do the old school, like
- 28:29you're on a skateboard and put out one leg and give it some help going
- 28:32up the hills, or I have to walk it.
- 28:34It just doesn't have the torque to carry me in my backpack up a hill.
- 28:37So that gave me pause.
- 28:39After like the first day of riding and I said, you know, yeah,
- 28:42there's some bike lanes here.
- 28:43They're really out in traffic and the people here are a little bit crazy.
- 28:47And I just don't feel comfortable.
- 28:49And the bike path doesn't go all the way to where I'm going.
- 28:51I have to get up on the sidewalk.
- 28:53I have to get out of the way, like all these kinds of things.
- 28:55I figured I'll try to ride the sidewalk when I can.
- 28:57And if I see people, especially people with dogs, I dismount, I get off.
- 29:01I put the scooter on the grass and I just walk along the sidewalk,
- 29:03like I'm walking and I just push it.
- 29:05And I'm trying to be very respectful of all the pedestrians.
- 29:07That said, I was coming back one afternoon, I'm like by myself, and I'm
- 29:12just cruising down on the sidewalk, and this young girl passed me on one
- 29:16of the big scooters, I mean, she just blew by me, like I wasn't moving,
- 29:19and then when I say, this thing is slow, it's about as fast as a car.
- 29:22As a runner, it does like eight or nine miles an hour.
- 29:25If I'm going downhill pushed by a Metro bus, it could probably hit its top
- 29:30speed of 15 or whatever it's supposed to do, but it doesn't do that on the
- 29:33regular does like eight or nine mile an hour, which is faster than walking,
- 29:36but it's whatever, what I realized was when I tried to use the bike lane.
- 29:40I was too slow and the bicyclists were pissed and I was just in their way
- 29:44and it was just, this is ridiculous.
- 29:45Again, I'm coming home one afternoon, I'm by myself and then I see
- 29:49this little old lady and she's got her cane 50 feet from her.
- 29:52I dismount and I just start walking and I have the scooter in the grass and
- 29:55she gets in the middle of the sidewalk and she gets as big as she can and
- 29:59she starts shaking her finger at me.
- 30:01And she starts yelling at me and she was like let me tell you I've had enough.
- 30:06I've had enough of these scooters and da da da and the bicyclists and the
- 30:09bicyclists should be all be put in jail and blah blah blah and I was like yes
- 30:13ma'am yes ma'am I'm so sorry yes ma'am.
- 30:16I would have exploded her ass.
- 30:17Oh she went off and she went off and so I said I understand but I dismounted from
- 30:23the sidewalk and now I am walking and you are blocking me you're on my side.
- 30:27Side of the sidewalk.
- 30:28She said, there is no side to the sidewalk.
- 30:30This is my sidewalk and I'm gonna walk here.
- 30:33And I'm like, well damn.
- 30:34Okay.
- 30:34You own the town.
- 30:36Apparently she must have been the mayor or something.
- 30:37Right?
- 30:38At 97 years old, that would've infuriated me more.
- 30:41I don't need to get into a fight with anybody, just like, I don't want to
- 30:44get into an argument with the cop.
- 30:46It's a Danny Glover moment.
- 30:48You're like, I'm too old for this.
- 30:49And as soon as I part ways with you, I'm never going to see
- 30:52you again and I don't care.
- 30:53That's why I told her to go F herself and kept going because
- 30:56I've never seen her again.
- 30:57Then it became like this political rant and I'm like, ma'am, I have to go.
- 31:01I could care less.
- 31:02You stayed way longer than I ever would have.
- 31:04I don't even know if I would have said anything to her.
- 31:06I would have just kept going.
- 31:07I would have ignored her.
- 31:08She'd have been nothing to me.
- 31:09I guess.
- 31:10I just don't need anybody reporting me or, oh, there's a guy running
- 31:13around and, you know, he looks like.
- 31:16Newsflash, they're gonna report you anyway, you don't look like them.
- 31:19It's true.
- 31:20You know, Tanya brought up a good point.
- 31:21She was like, it's not always legal everywhere to ride
- 31:24the scooter on the sidewalk.
- 31:26And I noticed on the bigger ones, the rental ones, it literally says
- 31:30on the base plate where you stand, it says, do not ride on the sidewalk.
- 31:33And I'm like, I get it because those things haul ass.
- 31:35They do like 30 miles an hour, right?
- 31:37And you know who rides them on the sidewalk?
- 31:39Everybody that rents one safer.
- 31:42Exactly.
- 31:42It is.
- 31:43And the old lady did say, she's going, I understand that you
- 31:46don't want to get hit by a car.
- 31:47And I'm like, okay, let's just stop there for a moment.
- 31:50And that is true.
- 31:51I am fearful to use the bike lane, even if it's available,
- 31:54because again, it is too slow.
- 31:56And I don't want to cause a bicyclist to have an issue because they are
- 32:00going faster than me because they're capable of going faster than me.
- 32:03But I've noticed though everybody with a dog that takes the time to say good
- 32:08morning or hello or whatever has been like oh thank you so much for not scaring
- 32:12my dog because you see the dogs get all antsy they don't even like the cars in
- 32:16the city let alone the scooters everybody else I'll just ride along and they're
- 32:20like good morning hello and it's like you know this happy middle America type
- 32:24of neighborhood it's super weird like I'm living in this bubble that I just
- 32:28don't understand and it's like I don't know I just can't put up with the whole
- 32:31being yelled at by everybody I guess the bigger point is it's like some people
- 32:34respect the bicyclists and the scooters.
- 32:36I will say that I have seen some crazy stuff from the bike messengers
- 32:40because they do still exist in the city with their fixed gear
- 32:43bikes and they just blow through intersections and they could care less.
- 32:46And I'm like, wow, that's brave.
- 32:48That's the word I'm going to use for it.
- 32:50But I'm like, uh, okay.
- 32:52What really gave me pause about all this, and I'm still riding the scooter,
- 32:55I don't really care, and I ride on the sidewalk, and I tell you what,
- 32:57there's this one kid every day, dude, he meanders down the sidewalk, and I
- 33:00literally have to yell to him, Eyes up!
- 33:03Eyes up!
- 33:03He's just gonna run into me, not because I'm trying to run into
- 33:06him, because he's not looking, he's playing Pokemon Go or something.
- 33:09But I fear for him.
- 33:11I fear for myself, maybe some of the other people, because there's an article
- 33:14that came out recently from the NHTSA addressing the bigness of the vehicles,
- 33:20especially trucks and SUV, and they're trying to, I guess, trim the fat.
- 33:24But I really want to know what the definition of a quote
- 33:27unquote excessively SUV is.
- 33:30Where do we draw the line on that?
- 33:32Well, it's the same definition as excessively loud, right?
- 33:35In Brad's perspective, he doesn't think any of them are excessively tall.
- 33:39From my perspective, when the headlight is at the height of my head, I'm
- 33:43sorry, that is excessively tall.
- 33:46Well, yeah.
- 33:46If you're standing outside the vehicle, the headlights or the, or the bumper
- 33:50is at your head, that's too tall.
- 33:51Yes.
- 33:52I agree.
- 33:52You're not a Mack truck.
- 33:53You're not off roading in the bush.
- 33:55Yeah.
- 33:56You don't need a eight inch lift.
- 33:58With 42 inch tires on your F three 50, it's unnecessary.
- 34:02I love those trucks though.
- 34:03And then they have a 12 inch drop on their trailer hitch because they're
- 34:06too tall to actually tow anything.
- 34:09So they can tow their mulch trail.
- 34:10No, cause the guy's five foot nothing and he can't get in.
- 34:13Or he can't get it up either.
- 34:15Going back to what we were talking about with the cop.
- 34:18I've never seen one of these bro dozers pulled over before.
- 34:21I had one behind me even today.
- 34:22F 150 that's been lifted, what looks like a foot, and the tires are sticking
- 34:26out eight inches on either side.
- 34:28Which is also illegal in Maryland.
- 34:30The windshield is pitch black, and then he's blowing diesel
- 34:33smoke, rolling coal out stacks, and yet I got pulled over, right?
- 34:37And I'm not trying to play the victim here, but I'm like, really?
- 34:40That's okay?
- 34:41That's cool?
- 34:41And he's loud because those diesels aren't working.
- 34:44How many shotguns did you see in his gun rack?
- 34:46What's funny about all this is I never really took it seriously until I became
- 34:52like more of a hardcore let's say pedestrian everyday in the city and
- 34:56really like being involved in traffic.
- 34:58When you're in a car you're sort of protected you don't think about
- 35:00yeah there's a brodozer but when you're on a scooter doing like
- 35:03Eight and one goes by you and kind of like nearly knocks you over.
- 35:07You're just like, you have a pucker moment on both sides of your body.
- 35:11That is pretty incredible.
- 35:12But what I also noticed that I never considered is how scary EVs can be.
- 35:18So it goes back to what we were talking about before the cars need
- 35:21to make a little bit of noise.
- 35:23Because you could have a Prius or a Tesla just creep up on you.
- 35:27I had an electric BMW following me up a hill on a side street
- 35:31that was like only a car wide.
- 35:33I didn't know he was back there until I heard like the crack of
- 35:37the tire roll over like a twig.
- 35:39And I was like, Oh my God, there's something behind me.
- 35:41And he had been there a while.
- 35:42And then as soon as I realized that he was there, I got out of the way
- 35:45and then he just floored it and took off just like a bat out of hell.
- 35:48He didn't honk the horn or anything like that, which
- 35:50probably would have startled me.
- 35:51Right?
- 35:51Because again, I didn't hear him.
- 35:53What you were describing though, it reminds me of that scene in the
- 35:55office where Andy and Dwight are dueling in the parking lot and Andy
- 35:59creeps up on him in the Prius, like.
- 36:01Five miles an hour.
- 36:02So you can't hear them.
- 36:03Exactly.
- 36:04I think you need to get yourself one of those high visibility jackets,
- 36:07like the construction workers wear.
- 36:08I got a bright red backpack, man.
- 36:10You can see it.
- 36:11Those yum, yum, yellow vests and wear that as you're going down the road.
- 36:14I'll wear the GTM media polos from the track days.
- 36:17That is perfect.
- 36:19But there was another article, and this is again, where I
- 36:21think big brother is listening.
- 36:23And it's a bit of a de doy moment here, as Brad likes to say, but quicker
- 36:27EVs might lead to more accidents.
- 36:29Oh, you don't say.
- 36:31But there's one more part, Brad, and I don't know if you put it out there
- 36:34in the world, gave me the karma, but I'm gonna get one of those signs like
- 36:38they used to have in the factories.
- 36:40Do I still use those?
- 36:41That says, X number of days since incident, because guess what?
- 36:45The Pacifica's back in the shop.
- 36:46Oh my god, what happened?
- 36:48Well, it's been 200 days since Since it's been in the shop, so that's seven
- 36:52months for those of you counting at home.
- 36:54I was driving it into the city like I do every morning and I didn't warn the
- 36:58girls, but the dashboard lit up like Times Square, all sorts of lights.
- 37:02Then a big red wrench with a lightning bolt in the middle.
- 37:05And it says service hybrid system now.
- 37:08And I'm like, Ooh, something's about to go seriously wrong.
- 37:13I got them dropped off and then basically took a minute to get my thoughts together.
- 37:18Talk to my wife, like, Oh my God, we're going to about to be down a car.
- 37:21That's true.
- 37:22Yeah.
- 37:22She cannot drive for several more weeks and I drove it
- 37:27immediately to the dealership and I made it their problem again.
- 37:30And this comes on the heels of us literally talking about.
- 37:33The Pacifica and talking about the letter that we got from Stellantis
- 37:37saying how they just put an unlimited warranty on the hybrid system.
- 37:42So we're taking advantage of that.
- 37:45My question is, did you guys just get a lemon?
- 37:48Lemon law or is every single one of these?
- 37:51The dealership garage lot is just full because everyone's is doing this.
- 37:55I don't know and I've asked the dealer and every time I say the
- 37:58word lemon law, they look at me again like a Cerberus from hell.
- 38:03I'm like, look, I'm not trying to be any sort of way.
- 38:06I just want you to tell me without having to go dig through the Oracle
- 38:10of Google to figure out what the law is or get a lawyer involved.
- 38:13But yeah, it's been in the shop so many times over the last couple of years.
- 38:17And it's had three going on four transmission replacements, which by the
- 38:22way, the hybrid is in the transmission and it's a big to do, and it's usually
- 38:26there for three weeks plus, and they got to get a transmission from Detroit.
- 38:30What I'm hearing as of today is it may not be a transmission problem.
- 38:34It's part of the EV coolant system, which we've had a problem with before.
- 38:39It's not the first time with that either where sensors go bad, or
- 38:43there was a leak on the pump, which is inside the transmission.
- 38:46It's a whole thing, right?
- 38:47But even the lady at the dealership was like, seriously, this is unbelievable.
- 38:51Like she's looking at our records and she doesn't even know what to say.
- 38:54And I'm like, thank you very much.
- 38:55What are we supposed to do?
- 38:56My wife and I had a heart to heart about this.
- 38:58And like, we've talked about our previous drive thrus before.
- 39:01What do we do if the Pacifica finally goes belly up?
- 39:04Like if it goes really pear shaped.
- 39:06Fix it, again, trade it in at the next local Toyota dealer, and call it a day.
- 39:11Cuz I'm done.
- 39:12Unless we're gonna buy another Jeep.
- 39:14Because to me, buying a Jeep is like buying an Audi or a Benz.
- 39:17They're more of a higher end car now than they used to be.
- 39:21There's a lot more in them.
- 39:22There's a lot more quality.
- 39:23It's the flagship of Stellantis, at least in the United States.
- 39:26You look at the rest of the Chrysler fleet, it's not worth it.
- 39:29And if you look at the rest of the vans, cause my wife wants another van, if we
- 39:32were to replace it, what do you buy?
- 39:34We've talked about the Kias, the Honda and not buying a 62, 000 Volkswagen ID buzz.
- 39:40Like I'm not buying another Volkswagen.
- 39:41You know what I mean?
- 39:42It's a mess.
- 39:43Well, I got another minivan.
- 39:44The sliding doors.
- 39:45She's hooked on the sliding doors now.
- 39:47I bet.
- 39:47The sliding doors are pretty nice.
- 39:49Yeah.
- 39:49And the cargo space and the, yeah, I get it.
- 39:52Question.
- 39:53About the Pacifica.
- 39:54All these issues that you've had.
- 39:56I love it.
- 39:57It's the best car we've ever owned, except for all this.
- 39:59We exclude the time it bricked itself just sitting in your garage, but all
- 40:04the other times, what is the ratio you driving versus Jess driving?
- 40:08This is the first time it's happened to me.
- 40:10Okay, that debunks my theory because we have a theory like that about another GTM
- 40:16member that is really hard on vehicles and they've had transmission issues
- 40:20and stuff with all their vehicles, too.
- 40:22And I'm glad you brought that up because I was on pace to try to beat
- 40:26Jess's record and that's what was super impressive about the Pacific.
- 40:29I was like, man, this thing is torquey and blah, blah, blah.
- 40:32And you know, the way the hybrid works and it's all electric before
- 40:35it's gas and how far I could go.
- 40:36There were some days I could get to school and have like 30 percent left.
- 40:40So I'm coming back part of the way on electric, which was awesome.
- 40:43I was averaging everything I was doing.
- 40:45I hadn't put gas in it in three weeks and I was getting 48.
- 40:482 miles to the gallon, cumulative average city highway, freaking unbelievable.
- 40:54That's better than diesel.
- 40:56Most of the time, didn't there used to be a saying back in the day that
- 41:00Cars run best right before they're going to die thousand percent.
- 41:03So there was a foreshadowing there.
- 41:05You put it in the world.
- 41:06That's what you did.
- 41:07I didn't Chrysler did.
- 41:09Well, Chrysler put some other stuff in the world.
- 41:11Did you read this thing by the CEO?
- 41:13No.
- 41:13What did this fool do?
- 41:14He says that the auto industry is in survival mode.
- 41:18That's a gross generalization.
- 41:19Stellantis might be in survival mode because what are you
- 41:23selling in the United States?
- 41:24States.
- 41:24You got rid of everything.
- 41:25There's no challenger.
- 41:26There's no charger.
- 41:27There's the Pacifica, the Jeeps, and that's it.
- 41:31What else do you sell?
- 41:32What else do you have?
- 41:32Cause there's no more alphas.
- 41:34There's no more Fiat's other than the ones that are left
- 41:36over for the next three years.
- 41:37And they've sold all the Dodge darts that were remaining from 2016.
- 41:40So what?
- 41:42They got nothing and they brought over the Hornet, which was a joke.
- 41:46Like, I don't even think they sell that anymore.
- 41:48They actually downsized part of the Jeep fleet.
- 41:50There's talk of getting rid of the manual transmission in the Gladiator,
- 41:53which I didn't even know was an option.
- 41:55What are you guys doing?
- 41:56And that's where I've lost faith in the brand.
- 41:59I joke that Volkswagen has lost their way, but Chrysler has been
- 42:02lost in the desert for 40 years now.
- 42:04Like when are they going to come home?
- 42:06The one thing I did take away from this article, which I thought was hilarious,
- 42:09is some creative rebranding and marketing.
- 42:11I'm always game for stuff like that.
- 42:13I think it's pretty cool.
- 42:14So according to the CEO of Stellantis, we now have electric motors and thermal
- 42:19motors, not internal combustion, thermal.
- 42:21Motors, which someone pointed out to me that steam engines
- 42:24are also thermal engines.
- 42:27So maybe they're going back to that.
- 42:28Is that a Tesla?
- 42:30Oh, we'll get to that later.
- 42:32I mean, I can kind of see what he's saying from like the auto industry is being
- 42:38squeezed from both sides from a regulatory standpoint of being forced and strongly
- 42:45suggested to start making vehicles.
- 42:47That do a certain 1 thing or another, and they're trying to balance meeting those
- 42:51regulations with also providing a product that customers want, which they haven't
- 42:56been able to do because the customers and the government don't really agree.
- 43:00And then they're stuck in the middle.
- 43:01So I can kind of understand what he means.
- 43:04And maybe this is, it's less like, this isn't right now,
- 43:06but it's like a preemptive.
- 43:08We're heading this way really soon kind of thing.
- 43:10They come to the table with something like the airflow.
- 43:13Remember that?
- 43:14It was supposed to be sort of like the Cherokee, but had the Chrysler badge.
- 43:17It was really cool and sleek looking.
- 43:19Develop that body shape, which was interesting, and everybody
- 43:22went, Oh, that's pretty cool.
- 43:23But give me an engine package option.
- 43:26Nobody's doing that where it's like, I can buy a golf with an electric motor,
- 43:30or I can buy a golf with a two liter turbo gas, and I can still have a golf.
- 43:34If that's what I want, or in this case for Stellantis, the airflow,
- 43:38if I want to buy that, Just give me an engine package to choose from.
- 43:42They keep developing these crazy cars for no reason that, to
- 43:46your point Brad, nobody wants.
- 43:48Stop making them weird looking, stop making them unusable, stop
- 43:51making them not functional.
- 43:53And the reason people keep gravitating towards, let's say SUVs, is because
- 43:57they are Functional and useful and still very drivable, but you get
- 44:02into some of these other cars and you're like visibility is garbage You
- 44:05can't even get a suitcase in them.
- 44:07You can't fit four people in them Like why are you building this trash and then
- 44:11the cars that we want you stop building?
- 44:13Well, it's like just put the freaking ev As an option and the cars that we
- 44:17do want and then they speak out of the other sides of their mouths And there's
- 44:20another article still antis Blames bad marketing for poor Maserati sales.
- 44:25I'm like, guys, wake up.
- 44:27How about his poor products?
- 44:28If Maseratis were cool, which is a stretch they haven't been for a long
- 44:32time, more people would buy them.
- 44:34But when you think about what they cost, you're going to buy a
- 44:37Ferrari if you can afford it, or you're going to buy something else.
- 44:40So it's like we said, if they restructured and maybe did the highline SUVs.
- 44:47As a Maserati, like, they built that one for a while there, but instead it's
- 44:51like, no, we have to have the Stelvio.
- 44:52We have to have the Maserati version.
- 44:54We have to have the Fiat version.
- 44:55It's like this proliferation of internal competition.
- 44:57And then suddenly they go, we can't sell anything.
- 44:59So we're just going to stop making them.
- 45:01I like how it's more people would buy Maseratis.
- 45:03That group of people buying Maseratis is so small, right?
- 45:07You make it sound like more people would buy Hondas.
- 45:10First of all, who cares?
- 45:11Why are they even mentioning Maserati?
- 45:13That's such a niche market and they should go investigate why the uber rich
- 45:17are putting their money somewhere else.
- 45:19Who cares?
- 45:19Because Maserati doesn't satisfy the uber rich.
- 45:22Maserati is the Buick or Oldsmobile of Italy.
- 45:25But tries to be a Ferrari.
- 45:27Well, Oldsmobile, Buick tries to be a Cadillac, but it's not.
- 45:31I'd rather have the lowest low end Ferrari, which right now is the 296.
- 45:35Then any high end Maserati, sorry.
- 45:37Like if I'm going to spend that kind of money, the Ferrari is a
- 45:40status symbol, not the Maserati.
- 45:42There was another automaker that went through something similar, making all
- 45:45these duplicate vehicles, and then basically not selling anything because
- 45:50where they were competing with themselves.
- 45:52Who was that?
- 45:53What was that Brad?
- 45:54That was General Motors.
- 45:55Oh, Oh, you're right.
- 45:57Wait, wait, or was it Ford?
- 45:59Oh.
- 45:59Or, or, or maybe it was Chrysler.
- 46:01I think all the American brands did that stupid stuff.
- 46:04And look how it worked out for them.
- 46:06They all needed to be bailed out.
- 46:07I feel like Chrysler's Stallones Stellantis It's like history
- 46:12is doomed to repeat itself.
- 46:13They've been with this struggle ever since Iacocca got there in
- 46:17the 80s, where it's like, we got to take the government bailout.
- 46:19We got to do this.
- 46:20We're always on the verge of bankruptcy.
- 46:22We got cool ideas, but we can't execute them.
- 46:24So we develop, instead of something awesome, the Ares K Car.
- 46:27You're like, come on.
- 46:28Like, I get it.
- 46:29But you know, the Ares didn't save Chrysler.
- 46:31The caravan did.
- 46:33Because it was something people wanted.
- 46:35It was fun.
- 46:35functional, it was useful, and they lasted for freaking ever.
- 46:38I still see some of those old bread boxes still running around, which is mind
- 46:42blowing, those Iacocca era Chryslers.
- 46:44But it's just like, have you not learned anything yet?
- 46:47Anything.
- 46:48And because I dropped the Pacific off at the dealership, would you
- 46:51like to know what was sitting in the parking lot to be purchased?
- 46:54Ram Rebels Cherokees.
- 46:57That's it.
- 46:57That's all there was.
- 46:58That's not a lot of choice.
- 46:59And if you want to buy a pickup truck, we know the best selling pickup
- 47:02truck in America is a FiberTruck Ford F 150, so why are you bothering?
- 47:05You also need 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 thousand dollars to buy one too.
- 47:09That sort of wraps up my showcase.
- 47:12And the show is over.
- 47:13I do want to say you've got to ditch your scooter and just get
- 47:16a really good set of Heelys.
- 47:18And you'll be golden.
- 47:19If you'd see the roads and the sidewalks in the city, I've gotten
- 47:22good at jumping the scooter, but I don't think I could do Heelys.
- 47:25Dude, there's a guy on Instagram that he wears Heelys and he
- 47:28does like Heelys parkour.
- 47:30It's pretty sweet.
- 47:32Dude, there's so many rooted sidewalks.
- 47:33Ugh, it's awful.
- 47:34Yeah, yeah.
- 47:34And these, again, things I don't consider.
- 47:36When I'm just walking or people cut your bushes back and there's
- 47:40not even room for a person to walk.
- 47:41Like, why are you sticking out three feet into the sidewalk?
- 47:44Where's the HOA in this instance?
- 47:46No, seriously.
- 47:46And these are things I'm like vehemently against usually.
- 47:49But in this case, I'm like, you know what?
- 47:51I understand why these rules are this way.
- 47:54Ah, yeah.
- 47:55See, and then you understand how these bills get passed for noise.
- 47:59Cameras because when it's in your backyard, it's a problem when it's in
- 48:03the guy's backyard 10 miles away It's not a problem Like that guy with the go
- 48:07kart track in his backyard as we wrap up here in honor of all these shenanigans
- 48:12We did a special mini sewed a while back.
- 48:14It was actually drive thru number 19 I had to go look it up to figure it out.
- 48:17So it's been a minute.
- 48:1830 drive throughs ago.
- 48:20There's an extra episode that was a complete rant about the shenanigans
- 48:24that happen in city traffic.
- 48:26And I tell you what, I went back and we listened to it.
- 48:28Nothing has changed.
- 48:29Zero.
- 48:30So we're going to re release that alongside of this episode.
- 48:33So you can hear me go off about people using their cell phones as
- 48:36sun visors and other fun things.
- 48:38I think we need to change it Pitstop to a PSA and we need to remarket it.
- 48:44You know, we got to change our poor marketing and we remarket it to this
- 48:47is a public service announcement.
- 48:49It's an outreach program really is we're trying to help you all help me help you.
- 48:54Well, on that, let's get back to our regularly scheduled ranting and raving.
- 48:58Stellantis has told us that the automotive industry is in survival mode.
- 49:03And that might be true at Volkswagen because reports are
- 49:07saying the crisis continues.
- 49:10Since the last time we talked about this, they might be forced
- 49:13to close factories in Germany.
- 49:15And wait, this just in, factories in China too.
- 49:18What's the name of the Chinese EV company?
- 49:20BYD.
- 49:20Who's going to compete against them?
- 49:22Because it's the EV factories that they're shutting down.
- 49:24Because they can't compete against Chinese EV.
- 49:26Because nobody wants them.
- 49:28Volkswagen bet the farm on EVs.
- 49:31No, it's not that nobody wants an EV.
- 49:33Nobody wants a Volkswagen's EV when they can have the Chinese
- 49:36BYD for 75 percent less.
- 49:39For 25 yen.
- 49:40Well, and that's just it.
- 49:41We talked about the ID buzz at 62, 000.
- 49:45How many Honda odysseys?
- 49:46Basically two of them.
- 49:47Can you buy for the price of that ID Buzz?
- 49:50I would just like to say that you cannot buy two Honda Odysseys
- 49:53for the price of one ID Buzz.
- 49:54The Honda Odyssey 2025 version starts at 41920 MSRP.
- 49:58How much are they at CarMax?
- 50:00I bet I can buy two at CarMax.
- 50:01Okay, used.
- 50:03Then we gotta wait to see how much a used ID Buzz is.
- 50:06Yeah, if you're buying used, then you can get six Honda Odysseys.
- 50:09Used, they're gonna cost 62, 000 because nobody's buying them.
- 50:14I probably can get six 2005 Honda Odysseys.
- 50:17That's what I mean.
- 50:18How low can you go?
- 50:19How used do you want?
- 50:21You can buy 25 Mazda Miatas.
- 50:23I'm gonna get a Dodge Caravan from the early 90s.
- 50:27It's insane.
- 50:28Nobody wants that stuff.
- 50:30You want to tell me it's because it's an EV?
- 50:32They're pushing the ceiling of what the market can bear.
- 50:35And for once, the market is not willing to bear the cost of these cars.
- 50:40And they're either not being made, they're not being sold,
- 50:42or they're sitting on lots.
- 50:43And I say, hell yeah.
- 50:45Vote with your wallet in this case.
- 50:47Don't buy these cars.
- 50:48They're ridiculous.
- 50:49And not because they're not good.
- 50:51Because the prices need to come down.
- 50:53You guys get my point's?
- 50:54That guy's name at the dealer?
- 50:56Oh yeah.
- 50:56You're talking about Chuck led duck?
- 50:57Yeah.
- 50:58. Chuck LED duck.
- 50:59Yeah.
- 50:59I still get emails from him.
- 51:00Oh shoot.
- 51:01There's an article here about BMW.
- 51:03Apparently maybe we're in for some new BM BMW stylings as they're seem to be
- 51:08replacing their chief people in charge.
- 51:11Okay.
- 51:11Define styling.
- 51:12Changing the grills back to what they were before is not changing the styling.
- 51:18It would be a step in the right direction.
- 51:20I don't disagree with that.
- 51:21For anyone who liked the Z4, apparently they're bringing that guy back.
- 51:25I do like the Z4.
- 51:26It's one of the few BMWs I do like.
- 51:28Well then maybe there will be a style change that you like,
- 51:32because the guy that designed that one is coming back apparently.
- 51:35Will they all be as ugly as the Z4?
- 51:38Well now you just spoke out of both sides of your mouth.
- 51:39No!
- 51:40I said I liked it.
- 51:41It's sort of like that scrappy junkyard pound puppy and you're like, he's so ugly.
- 51:45He's cute.
- 51:45Okay.
- 51:46That's the Z4.
- 51:47You're like, it's so ugly.
- 51:48It's kind of nice.
- 51:49I like it.
- 51:49Time will tell what changes we might see exterior, et cetera, on future BMWs.
- 51:55I'll believe it when I see it.
- 51:56I just like his name.
- 51:57Who he don't.
- 51:58He develops the donks over at BMW.
- 52:01Donks like a truck.
- 52:02Chuck, Chuck.
- 52:02Double dubs, baby.
- 52:03For the record, the more and more I see the BMW M models
- 52:07with that giant front grill.
- 52:09Don't tell me.
- 52:09The more I like it.
- 52:10The more you like it?
- 52:11The more I like it.
- 52:12Have you seen them at night when they light up?
- 52:15They're atrocious.
- 52:16I cannot say I've seen it at night.
- 52:18You need to get out more.
- 52:19Come at me, bro.
- 52:20Where am I gonna go?
- 52:20I go to daycare.
- 52:21Daycare is during the day.
- 52:23My wife's doctor has an M2 competition, black on triple black with the seats,
- 52:29with the BMW motorsport stitched leather.
- 52:32And it probably says M like 50, 000 places when it's an M2 competition.
- 52:36I mean, this thing is legit awesome.
- 52:39And I don't say that about a lot of BMWs, but I was like, dude,
- 52:42that's a really, really nice car.
- 52:44That is pretty cool.
- 52:45So good on him.
- 52:46But again, there's very few and far between BMWs I can say that about.
- 52:49Oh, it also has a normal size grill.
- 52:51The M2 has a normal size grill.
- 52:52Yeah, that's why it looks good.
- 52:54That's why even if all they did is go back to normal size grills, it would
- 52:57be a step in the right direction.
- 52:58More of that marketing nonsense.
- 52:59It's like thermal motors.
- 53:00Buzzwords.
- 53:01Synergy.
- 53:02We have synergy.
- 53:03Well, moving into domestic news, General Motors at the cutting edge of 10 years
- 53:08ago, the cutting edge of failure.
- 53:12I don't know.
- 53:12Is it 10 years ago?
- 53:13Because Tesla only very recently started opening up its charger network
- 53:18to non Tesla manufacturers, right?
- 53:20Yeah.
- 53:20I feel like they are first to market on this.
- 53:22Well, Ford's already doing it.
- 53:24They got access to the network.
- 53:26But what I don't understand is when you pull up with your Hummer EV and charge
- 53:29of the Tesla network, how does that work?
- 53:32Do you get a Tesla subscription?
- 53:34Like, I understand the Electrify America thing.
- 53:36Well, I think you pay at the quote unquote pump.
- 53:38I've seen that with other systems, which is super awesome at places
- 53:42like Ikea, where they have that you can park right up front.
- 53:45And it is relatively inexpensive, but it is a 225 uplift to get this adapter
- 53:51so you can use the Tesla chargers.
- 53:54Yeah, and Ford gave away their adapter for free.
- 53:56Beginning, I think they're gonna start charging.
- 53:58Why can't we just develop better charging stations and put Elon out of business?
- 54:02Why can't we just develop better technology for everybody to use for free?
- 54:06Why do you have to curse in church all the time?
- 54:09Uh, You want to give a mass group of people something for free for
- 54:14the general benefit of society.
- 54:17What country are you in?
- 54:19That was the premise of the movie The Saint.
- 54:22Remember that free energy?
- 54:23Yeah, cold fusion.
- 54:24Yeah.
- 54:24He drove a Volvo.
- 54:25I just want to point that out.
- 54:26He did.
- 54:27He did.
- 54:27I don't have a problem with it costing 225 when they're selling it to
- 54:31people that bought a 130, 000 Hummer.
- 54:34I have a problem with it costing 225 because Ford's giving it away for free.
- 54:38Ford gave it away.
- 54:40Ford is a better company.
- 54:41But apparently they're not free anymore.
- 54:44Because GM started to charge for them.
- 54:47It's all tit for tat.
- 54:48Well, no, cause if GM just started this Ford said that after June
- 54:5130 of this year, it would be 230.
- 54:54So look, GM just beat them by 5.
- 54:58230.
- 54:59I'm selling mine for 229, Bob, 229.
- 55:02You can take that extra 5, go to Subway.
- 55:04And get an 8 footlong and you're still out of pocket, but you
- 55:08can't charge outside the subway.
- 55:10That's like the people that get a coupon and they're like, look, I'm saving money.
- 55:14No, you spent 500.
- 55:16Yeah, but I would have spent seven 50.
- 55:18I saved 250.
- 55:20No, you didn't.
- 55:21You spent 500.
- 55:26Oh, look at your bank account.
- 55:27You know, the marketing term for that is.
- 55:29Spaving.
- 55:30Spending and saving.
- 55:31Spaving.
- 55:31All right, let's switch gears and talk about Japanese and Asian domestic news.
- 55:36Do we actually have news?
- 55:37We do!
- 55:38It has nothing to do with America, which makes it completely awesome, and it really
- 55:41has nothing to do with the car that's going to exist, either, because we've
- 55:44talked before about how the Supra is going away, and we're all very saddened
- 55:49by this weird four cylinder one that nobody's going to be brokenhearted about.
- 55:53The Australians, never to be outdone, say Here, hold my fosters.
- 55:58That's Australian for beer.
- 55:59They're doing V8 supercars, Supras.
- 56:03So first of all, I think this article is clickbait because I saw
- 56:06Toyota Supra gains a V8 engine.
- 56:08And I'm like, we'll go racing in Australia.
- 56:11Oh, only the supercar championship cars will have the V8.
- 56:14They're not going to sell any on the street.
- 56:16Like there's not going to be any for consumption.
- 56:19And what gets me about this is Supra or Lexus, R C L C, whatever
- 56:25the heck they are, F Sport.
- 56:27Those Lexus LC coupes are awesome.
- 56:29Right?
- 56:30They sound amazing.
- 56:31Why not just use the ones that are an IMSA that are like 100 years old?
- 56:35Isn't that like the same thing?
- 56:37Super's lighter.
- 56:38Sort of.
- 56:38Smaller is lighter.
- 56:39Maybe there's an issue where they can't use the car that's already in production.
- 56:42What it means, and it's probably already been done.
- 56:45LS swap all the Supras now because you know a V8 fits up there.
- 56:48They've been putting V8s in Furs and Burrs.
- 56:51There's a guy running around on Instagram with a Ferrari V8 in his Furs.
- 56:55Yeah, it doesn't fit right though.
- 56:56But this isn't the first time they did this down in Australia.
- 57:00Do you remember the V8 Ultima?
- 57:02No.
- 57:02And I wondered what do we call this one?
- 57:05You know, we have the Taltima all that.
- 57:08You guys got any creative names?
- 57:09Because I came up with one.
- 57:10This is the Baltima.
- 57:11Got balls tima.
- 57:12Baltima.
- 57:13That's awesome.
- 57:14But that's old news.
- 57:16We got to move on to some new news.
- 57:18Random EVs and concept cars.
- 57:19My wife, who has ample free time now because she can't
- 57:23really go anywhere, do anything.
- 57:25So she's been trolling and doom scrolling on Instagram and sent me this one
- 57:29knowing that I love some French cars.
- 57:31Have you guys seen this Renault rendering of the, call it Resto Mod, R17 EV?
- 57:38Very neat.
- 57:39I love this.
- 57:41It's very Mad Max to me.
- 57:42Not a fan of this brown color, but you know, that could be changed.
- 57:45I love the color.
- 57:47Brown is back.
- 57:47Did you look at the original one to compare it to what they did?
- 57:50I think they did a really good job of pulling the design
- 57:54language of a 1970s Ford.
- 57:56French coupe into the modern era.
- 57:58I think it looks really, really cool.
- 57:59It'll never get made.
- 58:00Of course not.
- 58:01Because anything awesome never gets made or it'll get made and we'll never see it.
- 58:05Oh, we'll never see it for sure.
- 58:07Throw a Nissan badge on it and call it something else.
- 58:09Meanwhile, we talk about the auto industry being in survival mode.
- 58:13There are some people that are taking themselves off of Survivor Island.
- 58:18This is just another manufacturer that's.
- 58:21Joining the bandwagon of not going full electric anymore.
- 58:25So Volvo is saying that they're going to ditch their previous plans
- 58:28to sell only electric cars by 2030.
- 58:31Because again, we're seeing this decrease in demand for electric
- 58:36battery powered vehicles.
- 58:37We pulled the rubber band as far as it can go.
- 58:40It's just coming right back to where it was.
- 58:42People got real optimistic.
- 58:44They said, you know what, let's do it.
- 58:45Let's run with it.
- 58:47And then it was like, let's see how this goes.
- 58:50It's not going how they forecasted, so they're popping the brakes, so to speak.
- 58:54So do you think they feel silly divesting Polestar?
- 58:58Do they feel silly not being 100 percent Swedish?
- 59:00Well, there's that too.
- 59:02Could that be part of the problem as well?
- 59:04Because of the huge tariffs that have been imposed upon the
- 59:07Chinese imports to basically keep them out of the United States.
- 59:10Probably not helping.
- 59:11That's what's happening to Lotus right now.
- 59:12The cost of their new EV, the Elettra, has jumped to 230, 000.
- 59:17Because it's another Chinese owned legacy manufacturer.
- 59:20Not going to help.
- 59:21What are we afraid of?
- 59:22I guess that's my bigger question.
- 59:24What do you mean?
- 59:24Why can't we allow BYD to build the cars here?
- 59:27Everything else we outsourced to China.
- 59:30That's for a different podcast.
- 59:31Oh, okay.
- 59:32All right.
- 59:33That's a totally different discussion.
- 59:36That's a battle that the lobbyists are fighting.
- 59:38I'll leave that where it sits.
- 59:40I mean, if you can tell me the difference between a Tesla three
- 59:42and a BYD, it's the same difference between a Sorni and a magnet box.
- 59:46That's Sorni.
- 59:47I'm not sure if there's a Home Depot in China or not.
- 59:53And speaking of Polestar being divested, this one made me think
- 59:56two if by land and one if by sea.
- 1:00:00Because Polestar is gonna make electric boats!
- 1:00:03Because we know how well water and electricity go together.
- 1:00:07Why is this boat flying?
- 1:00:09It's a hydrofoil.
- 1:00:10They do go together because when the batteries go off in a chain reaction
- 1:00:15to burn, you need an ocean of water to put them out, so it's perfect.
- 1:00:20Sink it.
- 1:00:20Done.
- 1:00:21I don't know that this is the first electric boat or thing of this type.
- 1:00:25I remember meeting the gentleman from Von Mercier and they were
- 1:00:29developing an EV hovercraft, and that was a couple of years ago now.
- 1:00:34I've heard of EV airplanes.
- 1:00:36Again, this was the next logical conclusion, I suppose.
- 1:00:39I just didn't think Polestar was going to be the one to do it, but hey, send it.
- 1:00:42Speaking of going for it, Brad, we need to turn to lost and found.
- 1:00:47I found something for you.
- 1:00:48I know it's one of your favorite BMWs, speaking of BMW earlier,
- 1:00:52this is the chassis hand built by God himself, the E39 M5.
- 1:00:57Yep.
- 1:00:58But is that 280, 000 worth of yep?
- 1:01:01Nope.
- 1:01:03Because the chassis hand built by God has a very, very close cousin in the
- 1:01:11Chevrolet formerly Holden SS sedan, which, when it first came out, Drew very
- 1:01:17similar comparisons to the E39 M5 during road tests and everything like that.
- 1:01:22So do I pay 280, 000 for this car or do I pay 40 or 50 for that car?
- 1:01:28I'm going to pay 40 or 50 for that car.
- 1:01:31And that LS sounds better than this BMW V8.
- 1:01:33And it'll cost you a lot less to run over time.
- 1:01:36But this one has 633 miles and it's in Dakar yellow.
- 1:01:40Can you get your SS in that?
- 1:01:42I can puke this color all over my SS if I want to.
- 1:01:45You know, there's Fans of this color.
- 1:01:47There's people that love this.
- 1:01:48I'm not a big fan of yellow cars.
- 1:01:50I mean, it's just not my thing.
- 1:01:51And I know here comes a joke about the Aztec, but let's let sleeping dogs lie.
- 1:01:55You said it to me.
- 1:01:56I love these M fives though.
- 1:01:58They are fantastic.
- 1:01:59I actually thought about buying one of these, not a V8, a.
- 1:02:03Three and a half liter six to run at the track instead of an E36
- 1:02:07M3 and I regret not doing that.
- 1:02:09I almost bought a 540i with the smaller V8.
- 1:02:13I had check in hand at CarMax ready to buy it and somebody in my journey
- 1:02:17from home to CarMax put it on dealer transfer and I didn't get it.
- 1:02:22They refused to sell it to me.
- 1:02:24And I was very distraught.
- 1:02:25I probably would still have that car.
- 1:02:26So I love the car.
- 1:02:28I don't love it.
- 1:02:29280, 000 worth though.
- 1:02:30Every time I look at these, it's a beautiful blend of
- 1:02:34E36 styling and E46 styling.
- 1:02:37It like sits in between and it has these cues and these certain features.
- 1:02:42They just still look good today.
- 1:02:44It's one of the few, let's say 20 plus year old BMWs Still
- 1:02:47looks really, really awesome.
- 1:02:49So God bless whoever buys this, but yeah, there's a lot of
- 1:02:53cars you can buy for 280 grand.
- 1:02:55Well, Tanya, we would be remiss if we didn't talk about the great Tesla.
- 1:03:04We finally have, yes.
- 1:03:07Possibly.
- 1:03:08Vindication!
- 1:03:09Are you happy now?
- 1:03:11I busted out in a small laugh towards the end of this article.
- 1:03:15So there's an article about how Tesla has now deleted its blog postings, any
- 1:03:20mention of postings where it said that their cars have self driving hardware.
- 1:03:26How curious.
- 1:03:28The better part is, that made me laugh, is they touted this whole time that
- 1:03:33they have fully autonomous, full self driving, duh, duh, blah, blah, except
- 1:03:39they have yet to prove that it's capable.
- 1:03:41Nobody has been able to prove that it's capable without some
- 1:03:44sort of adult supervision.
- 1:03:46This is awesome.
- 1:03:47Tesla is now calling the system FSD, which is the full self driving.
- 1:03:51FSD, FSD, FSD.
- 1:03:54Isn't that just called driving?
- 1:03:55I mean, this is like thermal motors.
- 1:03:59I mean, here we go again.
- 1:04:00It's like contradiction.
- 1:04:02Full self driving.
- 1:04:03Supervised.
- 1:04:03So it's not full self driving.
- 1:04:05But it's not supervised full self driving because if you change the
- 1:04:08subject predicate noun agreement, then it actually changes the
- 1:04:12connotation of what they're saying.
- 1:04:13I wonder what the legal implication of this order of the words is.
- 1:04:17What about full supervised self driving or full self supervised driving?
- 1:04:22Bullshit driving.
- 1:04:23This just goes along with the people can identify as whatever they want.
- 1:04:27I can identify as a chair.
- 1:04:28Eric can identify as a car with working taillights.
- 1:04:32Tesla's cars can identify as full self driving.
- 1:04:36That is the world in which we live.
- 1:04:37There doesn't have to be any truth behind any of it.
- 1:04:40Wow.
- 1:04:40When you say it, I identify as a czar of a remote country
- 1:04:46that I just don't get to visit.
- 1:04:48King of India, over there.
- 1:04:50What would your country be called?
- 1:04:51Portlandian.
- 1:04:52I think Fred Armisen might have something to say about that.
- 1:04:58Yes, yes.
- 1:04:59Oh, he's my vice czar.
- 1:05:01Nice shot.
- 1:05:01So there's still more Tesla.
- 1:05:03This one's even better.
- 1:05:04There's more Tesla news.
- 1:05:06It's unreal.
- 1:05:07It's about the Cybertruck.
- 1:05:08Oh, something we haven't talked about much this year at all.
- 1:05:11Because the Cybertruck is without fault.
- 1:05:14Oh, it is infallible.
- 1:05:16Like anything Elon touches is A turd.
- 1:05:20Meets the expectations.
- 1:05:22is totally in line with the promises.
- 1:05:25I'll say again, a turd.
- 1:05:26Works to the utmost degree, like a freaking Swiss timepiece.
- 1:05:30That's how well these things work.
- 1:05:32So recall the windows, right?
- 1:05:34Back however many years ago it was now.
- 1:05:37The baseball.
- 1:05:38Oh, they're, you know, armor plate glass that can withstain
- 1:05:42bullets, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:05:44I'll show you by lobbing this baseball at it with my untrained,
- 1:05:48unprofessional slow ball.
- 1:05:51shatter.
- 1:05:52Oh, it was a fluke.
- 1:05:53It was this and the other, you know, this is still the prototype,
- 1:05:57blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:05:58So then why now that we're in production with 3, 000 of these or whatever the
- 1:06:03production rate is, 11, 000 were recalled.
- 1:06:06That's right, we did say it was 11, 000, so good job, they're
- 1:06:10all in the parking lot somewhere.
- 1:06:11This is probably going to be another recall, maybe, I don't know.
- 1:06:14At any rate, some poor individual who spent 100, 000 on this
- 1:06:17car, left it parked wherever.
- 1:06:19And the impenetrable, unsinkable cyber truck, heard that one before.
- 1:06:23It's like the Titanic.
- 1:06:24With its shatterproof glass.
- 1:06:26The thief rolled up to it, tried back the window a little bit.
- 1:06:31Because it's frameless, I want to point it out.
- 1:06:33So this would happen with any car with a frameless.
- 1:06:36Yes, so we won't fault the frameless part.
- 1:06:38I'm not faulting the frameless part.
- 1:06:40It's a lack of notification.
- 1:06:41Well, I don't even fault that because honestly, if you jimmy a
- 1:06:44little bit, I don't think anyone's cars are that sensitive that.
- 1:06:48They're going to sound the alarm yet, but the shattered window, did this window
- 1:06:52shatter because the window peeled back
- 1:06:56like an onion layer.
- 1:06:59And so people are up in arms about how to your point, there
- 1:07:02was no alarm notification.
- 1:07:04I wasn't told my car was being robbed.
- 1:07:06The alarm didn't go off.
- 1:07:07What alarms going off this thing like rolled up like a paper towel.
- 1:07:10It didn't even know the window was open.
- 1:07:12Where's the sensor airflow.
- 1:07:14Suddenly the air current changed into the vehicle, but it was the door wasn't open.
- 1:07:18That's.
- 1:07:18The sensor.
- 1:07:18I don't know.
- 1:07:20Is it worth saying that the thief was in a Nissan Ultima?
- 1:07:22Yes.
- 1:07:23Oh, no.
- 1:07:24Are you serious?
- 1:07:25Yeah.
- 1:07:28But the picture of this peeled down window is just wild.
- 1:07:32Wild.
- 1:07:34You wouldn't be able to do that on any other.
- 1:07:36No.
- 1:07:37And I think it has to do with the fact that it's safety glass.
- 1:07:40So it has that coating on it.
- 1:07:41So it's not supposed to shatter and all that.
- 1:07:43But in thinking about previous Teslas that I've been in, remember, I told you
- 1:07:46guys that story about when I was in Tampa.
- 1:07:48And how that Tesla Model Y tried to choke me because the door seal ended
- 1:07:52up falling on my head as I was getting out and all this kind of thing.
- 1:07:55If the seals are that bad on a Cybertruck, and with all those
- 1:07:59angles, you don't need a pry bar.
- 1:08:01You probably could put your fingers in there and pull the window back.
- 1:08:05Probably would've did.
- 1:08:05Which is a lot harder to do on other cars, even on a frameless door car,
- 1:08:10which we've owned some over the years.
- 1:08:12It's pretty tight in there and usually the window goes up into a cavity.
- 1:08:15Yes.
- 1:08:16Where it seals.
- 1:08:17inside of that door seal, even though it doesn't have a frame.
- 1:08:20To say that the build quality is maybe not quite where it should be, and all those
- 1:08:26weird angles might add an extra layer of, I don't know, weakness, or entry point,
- 1:08:32or attack vector, we'll call it that.
- 1:08:34You know, I don't know!
- 1:08:36But I guess this guy proved the hypothesis.
- 1:08:38Tesla's recall fix is going to be going down to the local home depot
- 1:08:42and getting some rebar to build a frame for your frameless door.
- 1:08:46Just caulk it shut.
- 1:08:48Just get a couple of tubes of caulk.
- 1:08:49Your answer usually, I would just get some caulk.
- 1:08:51I was going to say caulk, but I decided to go with the rebar.
- 1:08:53Yeah.
- 1:08:54I'd like to spend a hundred thousand dollars on a vehicle
- 1:08:56that I can peel the glass back on.
- 1:08:58What the fuck?
- 1:08:58Ah, you know, now that my expectations are thoroughly lowered, we need to Things
- 1:09:05that are unfortunately unfortunate.
- 1:09:07Look at that.
- 1:09:08The first unfortunate thing.
- 1:09:10Right back with the Cybertruck.
- 1:09:12I feel like this is like serendipitous though.
- 1:09:15No, this is the definition of irony.
- 1:09:17Yeah.
- 1:09:18The headline alone explains it.
- 1:09:20Okay, Yahoo News reports.
- 1:09:21Tesla Cybertruck hits fire hydrant, catches on fire.
- 1:09:25Well, they were already there with the water.
- 1:09:27So their fire hydrant was on the scene.
- 1:09:29The fire hydrant was on the scene.
- 1:09:31Apparently he caused the fire, but also could not put out the fire.
- 1:09:36Do you know how much water a fire hydrant puts out?
- 1:09:39But that is needed to put out the fire.
- 1:09:41Oh, still not enough.
- 1:09:42The picture of this thing alone just cracks me up.
- 1:09:45How do you hit a fire hydrant?
- 1:09:46They're not in the middle of the road.
- 1:09:47Supervised full self driving.
- 1:09:51It was F U S D.
- 1:09:53Yeah.
- 1:09:53Oh, unsupervised.
- 1:09:55No, so this Cybertruck identified as a fire hose.
- 1:10:00God.
- 1:10:01There were reports this month of other EVs burning to the ground and the
- 1:10:05fires are just unbelievably tragic.
- 1:10:09Everyone wants to say,
- 1:10:12Gasoline, ice, thermal motors catch on fire more than Thermal means fire.
- 1:10:18When was the last time, though, sir, that an ice engine that hit
- 1:10:24a fire hydrant caught on fire?
- 1:10:26I believe the chances of that are one in a trillion.
- 1:10:29Unlike the Fast and the Furious movies, generally.
- 1:10:35When internal combustion engine operated vehicles strike something, they don't
- 1:10:41normally go up in a blaze of glory.
- 1:10:45Would have been amazing if that Cybertruck's dashboard lit up
- 1:10:48and it said danger to manifold.
- 1:10:50I mean, I get, yes, maybe ice do catch on fire more regularly, but it seems
- 1:10:56like the difficulty and the severity of some of these electric vehicle
- 1:11:00fires, imagine you're in some big collision and then you're out of it.
- 1:11:04You can't even get out of your car or you can't get out of your car
- 1:11:07until somebody comes rescues you and then the damn thing ignites.
- 1:11:10Would it be fair to say that maybe Knowing what we know, having the safety
- 1:11:15gear that we have available to us, that we should wear our Nomex suits.
- 1:11:18Every time we take a ride in a Tesla, I was just about to say that.
- 1:11:22Yep, exactly.
- 1:11:23So you can go down the Tesla cyber truck rabbit hole with this one article.
- 1:11:27I don't know if you looked in the middle of the page, but it says man
- 1:11:29almost loses a finger to a cyber truck.
- 1:11:31Oh, the window tried to like, no, this was the door because
- 1:11:35of where the door buttons are.
- 1:11:37So his finger got caught between the rear door and the front door.
- 1:11:41He almost lost the finger.
- 1:11:42And then the next one out of that is.
- 1:11:44Out of control Cybertruck crashes into a house?
- 1:11:46I think that's the one we talked about.
- 1:11:47Yeah, a while ago, yeah.
- 1:11:49I just, I love it.
- 1:11:50I saw one on the highway today, and I've never seen one in traffic.
- 1:11:54And the beltway, six lanes on each side type of deal.
- 1:11:56It is massive.
- 1:11:58Looks like there's lumbering.
- 1:12:00And I couldn't figure out where the brake lights were.
- 1:12:02You know how we discovered that the headlights are in that gap?
- 1:12:05Between the front fascia and the bumper, I think the brake lights
- 1:12:08are in the same place on the back.
- 1:12:10But every time we would stop and go in traffic, I didn't
- 1:12:12see that back bar light up.
- 1:12:14I think that back bar across the lift gate only comes on at night.
- 1:12:18Unless he wasn't using the brakes.
- 1:12:19Maybe.
- 1:12:20Regenerative braking that you don't have to break in those cars.
- 1:12:22But you still have to hit the brake pedal because we're coming to a full stop.
- 1:12:26Not if it's full self driving, it's fully aware.
- 1:12:29Oh, Identifies as a brake light.
- 1:12:32Or the brake lights just don't work.
- 1:12:34I mean, amongst a million other things that don't work on those.
- 1:12:36They could have shortened for all we know.
- 1:12:38Had brand new temp tags on it.
- 1:12:39I will say, I see cyber trucks all the time.
- 1:12:41I see at least one a day.
- 1:12:43They're creepy though.
- 1:12:44When they come up on you, you're suddenly like, whoa, what is that?
- 1:12:47I hate the fact that they're so popular.
- 1:12:49I don't know why, I just, they rub me the wrong way.
- 1:12:51Really upset me because you didn't get one and you are owed a T-shirt.
- 1:12:54That's why I didn't want one.
- 1:12:56Yeah, I ordered a cyber truck and all I got was this stupid T-shirt.
- 1:12:59Parentheses.
- 1:13:00Thank God . Thank Elon.
- 1:13:02Get it right.
- 1:13:03Thank you El Well, Elon is God.
- 1:13:05There you go.
- 1:13:05Soon to be he's gonna be the first trillionaire.
- 1:13:08Did you hear that?
- 1:13:09It's insane.
- 1:13:09Don't even get me started on how stupid people make money.
- 1:13:13. He's not stupid.
- 1:13:13He's very smart, but he's also.
- 1:13:15Stupid.
- 1:13:16He's also a horrible human being.
- 1:13:18Yes, horrible human beings make a lot of money.
- 1:13:20Well, this next one almost made Florida man, but this is really unfortunate.
- 1:13:26This is right down the road!
- 1:13:28The rich man's side!
- 1:13:30I don't understand what happened.
- 1:13:33I don't understand how this is physically possible.
- 1:13:36Where's the rest of the truck?
- 1:13:38Kept going.
- 1:13:39What?
- 1:13:39So the cab separated, but I don't understand the highway sign was that low?
- 1:13:44The only way I can explain this is that it went off and then rode the pole.
- 1:13:48No, so it says that the semi When it's raised bed.
- 1:13:51So he was driving like a dump lift.
- 1:13:54That's a big dump lift.
- 1:13:55That's the full length of a tractor trailer.
- 1:13:57I didn't think those things tilted.
- 1:13:58Because it says the semi was headed west when it's raised bed slammed into
- 1:14:01the overhead sign near mile marker 200 as it approached the 64 295 split.
- 1:14:06The cab continued on and then stopped, obviously, because it separated
- 1:14:11from the bed of the tractor trailer.
- 1:14:12He was adding rocks to the trailer.
- 1:14:13Chips to the highway troopers do not know why the bed was raised or
- 1:14:16how long was up before the crash.
- 1:14:17Oh, okay.
- 1:14:19That's my missing piece of information possible.
- 1:14:22This happened in Georgia a couple years ago and we reported on it where
- 1:14:25a dump truck hit a bridge, remember?
- 1:14:27And he didn't realize that the dump was up or something like that.
- 1:14:30Yeah, but that's a dump truck.
- 1:14:31This is a dump truck.
- 1:14:32This is like a dump tractor trailer.
- 1:14:34Apparently that bed could be lifted.
- 1:14:37Well, it lifted.
- 1:14:37Can you imagine being on the highway behind that is straight up.
- 1:14:41Out of.
- 1:14:43But nobody tried to flag this guy down or tell him, Hey, up, up, up.
- 1:14:47Maybe he's thinking do the horn and he's just blowing the horn at him.
- 1:14:50Right?
- 1:14:50No, you're in Virginia.
- 1:14:51You just get the hell out of the way.
- 1:14:53They're all amped out in the left lane.
- 1:14:55Nothing.
- 1:14:55Yeah.
- 1:14:55You just, just let it happen.
- 1:14:57This trailer identified as a street sign, apparently, but as Tanya
- 1:15:01likes to say, that's unfortunate.
- 1:15:02All right, guys.
- 1:15:03So following up from last month, gave you guys a homework assignment.
- 1:15:06Did anybody watch one for the road?
- 1:15:09Final chapter in the Top Gear Grand Tour Clarkson Hammond and Mays saga.
- 1:15:13No.
- 1:15:13Yes.
- 1:15:14What?
- 1:15:15Yes, of course.
- 1:15:16And what do we think?
- 1:15:17It was just like all the rest.
- 1:15:18I feel it was more for them than for the fans.
- 1:15:21I would agree with that.
- 1:15:22They didn't do anything new or earth shattering.
- 1:15:24It was just kind of like a greatest hits of their jokes and I don't
- 1:15:29know it was definitely for them.
- 1:15:30I wasn't sure like the beginning of it okay they got their three cars they're
- 1:15:35going on this road trip and I was like nothing was really happening so to speak
- 1:15:39like it was pretty mundane yeah the Capri kept breaking down every 20 minutes.
- 1:15:43But it's kind of like par for the course.
- 1:15:44And then they, they did the antics, I guess I'll call it.
- 1:15:47And it's like, let's drive down the railway.
- 1:15:49And I'm like, okay.
- 1:15:50I mean, that's been done before they even said they'd done it before.
- 1:15:53So I don't know if that felt forced, contrived.
- 1:15:55Yeah.
- 1:15:56Forced.
- 1:15:57That was nor here nor there.
- 1:15:58Could they have just skipped that and driven the rest of the way?
- 1:16:01I don't know.
- 1:16:02I mean, I will say I was just a little bit heartbroken that
- 1:16:06he destroyed the railroad.
- 1:16:07That Lancia.
- 1:16:10When that bumper ripped off, I was just like.
- 1:16:12I loved all the mods on the Lancia when he goes, and it's got the
- 1:16:16308 taillights and it's got the Delta HF grille in the headlight.
- 1:16:19He said it cost him 80, 000 pounds.
- 1:16:22I'm like, can you drive slower over the potholes?
- 1:16:25For Pete's sake, like, anyway, there was a couple of good potshots in there too.
- 1:16:31Like when Hammond was working on the Capri and they talked about
- 1:16:34some of his crashes and they kind of really get him on the Rimac that he
- 1:16:38destroyed, you know, that kind of thing.
- 1:16:39I thought that was funny.
- 1:16:40It was interesting to see James may actually get a little bit
- 1:16:43emotional towards the end.
- 1:16:44Cause he's, he's like the ice man.
- 1:16:46Like he's always like, Oh, he's always kind of like the curmudgeon.
- 1:16:48You know what I mean?
- 1:16:49Like, Oh, okay.
- 1:16:50I'm here.
- 1:16:50I'm doing this.
- 1:16:51I thought for sure Tanya would be heartbroken or like angry that
- 1:16:57they destroyed a Volkswagen Beetle.
- 1:16:59Oh, and I gotta say up until the very last second where the beetle disintegrated, I
- 1:17:07thought it held up pretty well given what was going on and just the tumbling down.
- 1:17:12I was like, wow, if Tanya's ever in an accident on track,
- 1:17:15I think she's going to be okay.
- 1:17:16And then tumble, tumble, tumble, tumble, tumble, tumble.
- 1:17:19Hey, the cockpit's fine.
- 1:17:20It's fine.
- 1:17:20Until it wasn't, did you see when the motor and transmission ejected itself?
- 1:17:25Like it went into orbit.
- 1:17:26Yeah, but who cares?
- 1:17:26I was only looking at the cockpit to make sure the driver would have been okay.
- 1:17:30And it was fine until like the last two seconds.
- 1:17:32And then all of a sudden it collapsed on itself.
- 1:17:35That was unnecessary.
- 1:17:37Yes.
- 1:17:37100 percent it was.
- 1:17:38It should have been a caravan.
- 1:17:39Really unnecessary.
- 1:17:41That car would have been the better car to have driven across those
- 1:17:46roads than the ones they chose.
- 1:17:47But at any rate, I get it.
- 1:17:49It was actually a pristine beetle too.
- 1:17:51It was in really good condition.
- 1:17:53I was like eating something and I literally just mid bite just
- 1:17:57stopped mouth agape and I didn't move the whole, I was just like.
- 1:18:01And you knew what was coming too.
- 1:18:03You're like, come on.
- 1:18:03Oh my God.
- 1:18:04They built it up so much.
- 1:18:05Oh my God.
- 1:18:06I've gotten myself into a predicament.
- 1:18:08Oh, I know.
- 1:18:09And it was just like, ah, we spent five minutes building it up.
- 1:18:14Really?
- 1:18:15Oh yeah.
- 1:18:16That was distasteful.
- 1:18:19I think it would have been better had he done it.
- 1:18:21Ferris Bueller style where the brick is on the pedal and then he's just kicking
- 1:18:25the shit out of it until it just goes off the cliff, but it should have been
- 1:18:28going backwards, you know what I mean?
- 1:18:29Kind of thing.
- 1:18:30Like it would have been.
- 1:18:30Perfect.
- 1:18:31I like the idea that they used a dog though.
- 1:18:34It was almost like an homage to top gear dog.
- 1:18:35Yeah, it was.
- 1:18:36I got top gear dog, man.
- 1:18:38That's been a minute too.
- 1:18:39And I thought the other part that was kind of cool, whether it was
- 1:18:42produced or not, was when they came across the original cars, except for
- 1:18:47Oliver, which we know is back in the UK that were on that original special.
- 1:18:51So his launch of beta coop and the Mercedes, I thought that was really cool.
- 1:18:55I think that was the moment when James sort of realized like.
- 1:18:59Oh, crap.
- 1:19:00This is the end.
- 1:19:01Yeah, I don't think the boys knew, but I think the producers knew.
- 1:19:05Like, they probably found those cars.
- 1:19:07Yeah, I thought that was really, really well done.
- 1:19:09I will say, I definitely thought they were going to drive through the minefield.
- 1:19:12But they've done that before too, right?
- 1:19:13With all the military exercise stuff they've done.
- 1:19:16Yeah, but it wasn't quite a minefield.
- 1:19:19The fact that that truck went through, I thought that was awesome.
- 1:19:22Yeah, that was pretty cool.
- 1:19:23I felt like it came full circle and it did literally and figuratively because it
- 1:19:28spoiler alert, it ends where it started.
- 1:19:30I had to wrap my head around it because I've been following top gear since let's
- 1:19:34say top gear version one, when it was more like motor week Clarkson was on there,
- 1:19:38but he was reviewing like the Renault R 17, the original one and telling you
- 1:19:43about how crappy the tires were and what the handling was like, just like you
- 1:19:46would expect from, let's say motor week.
- 1:19:48And then when Top Gear 2.
- 1:19:490 came out, suddenly had Clarkson Hammond in May and the airport and stuff like
- 1:19:53that, they had their adventures, but I didn't realize that the specials, and
- 1:19:57what they meant by specials was these independent, long format, two hour
- 1:20:02deals that they would put together, started 17 years ago and started there
- 1:20:06in Botswana and the whole thing, and that's why I say it came full circle,
- 1:20:09because I kept thinking there were other specials where they would talk for
- 1:20:13maybe five minutes, But it fit inside of the 44 minute episode that they had
- 1:20:17put together with a break in a little conversation street or whatever it is.
- 1:20:20Yeah.
- 1:20:21But the reason they fit and it's cause they were edited down.
- 1:20:23If you were able to get when they were on Netflix or whatever, or if you had
- 1:20:27access to BBC, if you were able to get the unedited versions, they were our,
- 1:20:32our plus episodes, even the standard top gear episodes were over an hour.
- 1:20:35Cause I felt like the Africa special was already well into them doing so.
- 1:20:40specials.
- 1:20:40There were other things that they had done already on Top Gear that
- 1:20:43sort of led up to that moment.
- 1:20:44So I felt like, man, they've been doing this for a lot longer than 17 years.
- 1:20:47But 17 years is nothing to sneeze at.
- 1:20:49Jeremy Clarkson has been in the business well over 30 years, and Clarkson, Hammond,
- 1:20:54and May well over 20 years together.
- 1:20:56So I agree with you that it was for them, but I think as fans, If they
- 1:21:01had just left it where they left it, let's say with the previous special.
- 1:21:05Oh, it wasn't good enough.
- 1:21:07We needed some closure.
- 1:21:08Thank you.
- 1:21:08Exactly.
- 1:21:09It was a nice ending to something and like other stuff that just kind of
- 1:21:12like ends with and you're like looking around going, okay, that was it.
- 1:21:18Little kind of side notes from this when that triumph stag showed
- 1:21:21up I actually knew about that car and I had just paused it.
- 1:21:25I said, oh my god, you won't believe what a piece of crap Those motors,
- 1:21:29you know, and then they would take the rover sd1 engine and put it in there
- 1:21:32And then they led into that this like I paused as soon as the car showed
- 1:21:36up because she's like what is this?
- 1:21:37And we were talking about it Yeah We were kind of arguing a little bit about whether
- 1:21:40it was barney purple or not because to me it was a little bit too Magenta and
- 1:21:43then they they lay into it and She's like, how do you know all this stuff?
- 1:21:47And I'm just like, I know things I shouldn't, I guess, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:50But that Rover SD1, the backup car, I love those things.
- 1:21:54I think they're super cool.
- 1:21:56They sort of gave inspiration to what we got in the States,
- 1:21:59which was that Sterling.
- 1:22:01If you remember that European Accord, it kind of had a similar look to it.
- 1:22:04It lasted for like a hot minute in the late 80s, early 90s.
- 1:22:07I thought it was funny because they roasted him a little
- 1:22:09bit from the beginning.
- 1:22:10Oh my God.
- 1:22:11This engine's a turd.
- 1:22:13They all overheat.
- 1:22:14You never find a stag with this motor because they've all been replaced
- 1:22:17with the V8 and da da da da da.
- 1:22:18And that car never had a problem the whole time through the heat and all that.
- 1:22:24I'm like, well, that car doesn't overheat through that trip.
- 1:22:28It ain't never overheat.
- 1:22:29Yeah, right.
- 1:22:30I wouldn't be surprised if secretly he did replace the motor and
- 1:22:33it had a different motor in it.
- 1:22:35I was disappointed in the fact they took the doors off of that car, considering
- 1:22:39how good a condition it was in.
- 1:22:41I guarantee they put them back on afterward.
- 1:22:43It was cardboard garbage at the end though.
- 1:22:46But you know what's funny is, I read some Somewhere that the searches on Google
- 1:22:50of triumph stag were up 6, 000 percent as a result of that episode, Lord, it's
- 1:22:57going to be the fast and furious effect.
- 1:23:00Like the prices of supers went up.
- 1:23:01The prices of those cars are going to go up now.
- 1:23:02Yeah.
- 1:23:03And then people are going to realize how crappy they are.
- 1:23:05And it doesn't really matter.
- 1:23:06I'd rather have that Rover SD one, honestly, the gold car.
- 1:23:10I love the beta Monte Carlos.
- 1:23:11They're so awesome.
- 1:23:12And then the scorpion on top is even better.
- 1:23:14Right?
- 1:23:14So there was another article.
- 1:23:16that Hammond talked about after they shot and did production of the episode that
- 1:23:21apparently it's sort of like not the end.
- 1:23:24It's the end of the three of them together, right?
- 1:23:26Clarkson is doing his thing, Clarkson Farm and all that stuff, which is
- 1:23:29fantastic if you've never watched it.
- 1:23:31It's actually a lot of fun.
- 1:23:32But apparently him and May are going to do something of an adventure together.
- 1:23:36And then apparently Hammond and his brother are going to go off and redo
- 1:23:41some of the previous adventures that they had in the past, but with a little less.
- 1:23:46of a whole production team there to help them, like, fix the stuff.
- 1:23:49Like, they're actually gonna do some of these adventures.
- 1:23:52So I thought that was pretty cool, and he was talking about
- 1:23:54that after it was all over.
- 1:23:55So it's sort of not the end, and all three of them are used to being on camera.
- 1:23:59I mean, James May's still doing the R Man in Japan, and R Man
- 1:24:02here, and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:24:04So I don't see a finality to this, unless They're physically
- 1:24:08not capable of doing something.
- 1:24:10They're just not going to be doing it together.
- 1:24:12It's not the end of their careers.
- 1:24:13It's just the end of their, them to get, it's the end of an era, not their careers.
- 1:24:18And I don't think it's the end of their friendship.
- 1:24:19Although I really love the whole thing where may is like deleting their numbers.
- 1:24:23Yeah, it was so good.
- 1:24:25But even that ending I appreciated and Jess really liked it when Jeremy's
- 1:24:30talking and then suddenly he just.
- 1:24:32Pulls the mic and then that was it and it went quiet Yeah But I also thought with
- 1:24:36all those quotes that they used and not all of them were from that episode Some
- 1:24:40of them were pulled from other things.
- 1:24:41I felt it appropriate and it was a missed opportunity for jeremy's classic ending
- 1:24:47And on that bombshell, it's time to end.
- 1:24:50Boom!
- 1:24:51Mic drop.
- 1:24:52Done.
- 1:24:52Yeah.
- 1:24:53I just felt like I needed that.
- 1:24:54That was me.
- 1:24:55Hopefully I'm not alone in that feeling.
- 1:24:57I do think the disconnected mic thing was cool, but it is what it is.
- 1:25:00Because of this, my kids have started to get into Top Gear and they want
- 1:25:04to see more of the old special.
- 1:25:06So, I might actually spend some time, like, revisiting.
- 1:25:08Not all of them are appropriate.
- 1:25:10Some of their antics, to use Tanya's word, are not always appropriate.
- 1:25:13Kosher, but you know, there's some good ones in there.
- 1:25:15I mean, Bolivia, the North Pole, especially.
- 1:25:18I mean, there's some really, really awesome ones in the mix.
- 1:25:21Yeah.
- 1:25:22I think the Bolivia one's my favorite.
- 1:25:23Yeah.
- 1:25:23That one's definitely top three.
- 1:25:25And obviously the original Africa one for that matter is fantastic.
- 1:25:29So they did watch Scandi Flick recently though.
- 1:25:32And that accident, everybody reacts the same way.
- 1:25:34It's not great.
- 1:25:35Not ideal.
- 1:25:36We have some rich people things.
- 1:25:38Yay!
- 1:25:39Sponsored by Garage Style Magazine, because after all, what
- 1:25:42doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:25:43Shaq said he needed another car, and what did he buy?
- 1:25:47Cybertruck.
- 1:25:48See Brad?
- 1:25:49He's another happy Cybertruck owner.
- 1:25:51This is what irritated me.
- 1:25:52However, it's I guess a one of a kind, because it is a carbon fiber Cybertruck.
- 1:25:58So, Mr.
- 1:25:59O'Neil is actually a little bit intelligent, because he went, uh, I
- 1:26:03don't want this stainless steel trash.
- 1:26:07I will pay quadruple for carbon fiber.
- 1:26:09That's a lot of carbon.
- 1:26:10I don't want to be out here buffing this thing.
- 1:26:12It still weighs 8, 000 pounds instead of 9, 000 pounds though.
- 1:26:16They should have made the cyber truck out of carbon fiber.
- 1:26:18That would have been more cyber.
- 1:26:20That would have been more futuristic to have a street car that wasn't a
- 1:26:23hyper car made out of carbon fiber.
- 1:26:25They could have made it out of Kevlar.
- 1:26:26So the whole thing was not bulletproof.
- 1:26:28Carbon Kevlar is not new.
- 1:26:29They did that in the eighties on like, Audis and Ferraris and stuff.
- 1:26:32Stainless steel ain't new either.
- 1:26:34So he wasn't going for that.
- 1:26:36No, we'd straight back to the eighties on that too.
- 1:26:38It's still ugly, but I like the red light in the front though.
- 1:26:40I think it looks cool.
- 1:26:41It's murdered out.
- 1:26:42It's like the rate.
- 1:26:42I've seen a cyber truck like this, like blacked out in my area.
- 1:26:45Here, the guy wrapped it.
- 1:26:47It's still ugly, but it looks better than the stainless.
- 1:26:49It's better than it was, but it's still polishing a turd.
- 1:26:53Did you notice that Shaq's windshield is also tinted?
- 1:26:55Yep.
- 1:26:55Illegal.
- 1:26:56Issue that man a citation.
- 1:26:58He ain't driving that thing.
- 1:26:59Isn't it really small inside?
- 1:27:00How the hell is he fitting?
- 1:27:01That's what I was wondering.
- 1:27:02Like, they're not very big inside, but it's got enough headroom for the driver.
- 1:27:05Maybe it's custom on the inside.
- 1:27:07Since it's only like seven foot something.
- 1:27:08There's no backseat.
- 1:27:09He just sits in the back.
- 1:27:10So it did bring up a question in my mind.
- 1:27:13You remember how Shaq was doing that Shaq's garage cartoon,
- 1:27:17sort of like the Cars movie.
- 1:27:19So is there going to be a Cybertruck in it now?
- 1:27:21Is that show even still on?
- 1:27:22Did it even make it to market?
- 1:27:23I don't know.
- 1:27:24We got to look that up.
- 1:27:25We got to find out.
- 1:27:26That came up during the beginning of COVID, I think.
- 1:27:28Oh, look at this.
- 1:27:29We have more rich people times.
- 1:27:31Make sure you put down this winter.
- 1:27:34If you're one to ask Santa for presents, maybe you want to ask
- 1:27:37for this if you're expecting a little bundle of joy in the future.
- 1:27:40How would you like a Lamborghini?
- 1:27:43for your baby.
- 1:27:44Wait, wait, wait.
- 1:27:44Are we talking like Bugatti Baby 2?
- 1:27:47Because that's been done before.
- 1:27:48No, we're talking about a limited edition baby stroller.
- 1:27:52No!
- 1:27:54Yes.
- 1:27:54A Lamborghini baby stroller could be yours.
- 1:27:57Is it named after a bull like all the other Lamborghinis are?
- 1:28:00There's only going to be 500 made.
- 1:28:03The price isn't revealed yet on it.
- 1:28:06But the basis of this stroller costs 1, 000.
- 1:28:09So expect it to cost more than 1, 000.
- 1:28:12Is that all?
- 1:28:13It's actually not terribly outlandish for a baby stroller.
- 1:28:16Do you know how loud Lamborghinis are?
- 1:28:18This would frighten the child.
- 1:28:19It would go down there.
- 1:28:20Rawr, You know, you know that V10 sound that they make?
- 1:28:28That trooper that pulled you over would give this person a ticket?
- 1:28:31100%.
- 1:28:32I do like the orange stitching though, that is super nice.
- 1:28:35I'm gonna do that to my baby stroller that I probably won't be
- 1:28:37using once Adam starts walking.
- 1:28:39Boom, done.
- 1:28:40Bring out some Lambo stickers, put them on.
- 1:28:42Yep.
- 1:28:42So much cheaper.
- 1:28:44Feel like I have a Lamborghini.
- 1:28:45Well, we've reached that part of the episode where it's time to go down south
- 1:28:49and talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:28:51Oh man, we're in a flirta man.
- 1:29:07Our first Florida man, how unfortunate for the owners.
- 1:29:10Right.
- 1:29:11But this thief decided to steal a tractor trailer full of Porsche's race car.
- 1:29:16Yes!
- 1:29:17Worth about 1.
- 1:29:195 million dollars.
- 1:29:21And he got away with it apparently.
- 1:29:22This is very gone in 60 seconds.
- 1:29:24He's a Florida man motorsports enthusiast.
- 1:29:26He knew what he was doing.
- 1:29:28What he was going to do with them after he stole them is beyond me.
- 1:29:31Because race cars are pretty obvious.
- 1:29:34Chop them up.
- 1:29:35Parts.
- 1:29:36There's so little things on a race car that you could use back on a street car.
- 1:29:39It's not worth it.
- 1:29:41Bold move, Cotton.
- 1:29:42Maybe you just thought they were regular Porsches, and then like,
- 1:29:44once you've stolen it, and then you're like, crap, now what?
- 1:29:47Shit.
- 1:29:47But that plays into the fact that you see one 911, you've seen them all.
- 1:29:51They all kind of do look the same.
- 1:29:53Unit for a penny, unit for a pound, is that the same?
- 1:29:56Pass the point and overturn.
- 1:29:58All right, Florida, what else you got?
- 1:29:59There's another Florida man.
- 1:30:01This one is interesting.
- 1:30:02I mean, what would you do if you came outside to your Corvette?
- 1:30:06There was a person inside of it.
- 1:30:07You didn't know that person.
- 1:30:09I'd hit the panic button and call 9 1 1 and then I'd get the biggest tool or axe
- 1:30:15or something I could find in my garage and I would stand there and wait with
- 1:30:19the gentleman until the police showed up.
- 1:30:21I mean, that's basically what this person did aside from the
- 1:30:23menacing weapon, but I don't know how the guy got in the Corvette,
- 1:30:27but apparently he couldn't get it.
- 1:30:28Out of the Corvette because he got locked inside and couldn't
- 1:30:31figure out how to open the door.
- 1:30:33But apparently maybe you can't open the door of these Corvettes
- 1:30:37without the key present?
- 1:30:38It's electric.
- 1:30:39The new ones?
- 1:30:40Okay.
- 1:30:40The C7 is the same thing.
- 1:30:42I've seen it in the C8.
- 1:30:43It has this little kind of triangular button that you hit on the handle.
- 1:30:46But it's electric and it doesn't work if you're not near the cars.
- 1:30:49But how he got in to your point, doesn't make a lot of sense.
- 1:30:52Does it have frameless window?
- 1:30:54They do, but you know, it didn't peel back like it did on the cyber truck.
- 1:30:58And it didn't alert the owner either.
- 1:30:59So however he got in, that's a Houdini right there.
- 1:31:02Cause a car alarm should have been going off.
- 1:31:04I need to look up the definition of this word.
- 1:31:06I love how he is quote unquote, a suspect.
- 1:31:10He's not a suspect, he's a criminal.
- 1:31:12Right?
- 1:31:13It says he was charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance,
- 1:31:17according to local media.
- 1:31:18And I'm like, wait a minute.
- 1:31:19Something that conveys.
- 1:31:21So a vehicle would convey a person.
- 1:31:23It has two definitions.
- 1:31:24The non lawyer definition is the action or process of transporting someone or
- 1:31:29something from one place to another.
- 1:31:31Full stop.
- 1:31:32The legal definition of conveyance is the legal process of transferring
- 1:31:36property from one owner to another, neither of which apply here.
- 1:31:40Sometimes authors try to use big words.
- 1:31:43Why use a 50 word when you can use two 1 words?
- 1:31:46I mean, it's Florida.
- 1:31:47Maybe they use the word conveyance instead of vehicle.
- 1:31:50This does not convey properly to me.
- 1:31:53Alright, what else?
- 1:31:54This one is a little different, less on the funny side or whatever.
- 1:31:58And we go up north to Michigan for this, and this is Michigan Police.
- 1:32:02So apparently there was somebody in a, I don't know, older end of middle
- 1:32:07aged, was having a medical emergency.
- 1:32:09Which people didn't realize at the time, but they were in a medical
- 1:32:11emergency while they were driving whatever GMC Sierra truck they were in.
- 1:32:15And they were weaving on the road and like hitting the curb and
- 1:32:17kind of going up and coming down.
- 1:32:19I believe the Dodgeball movie referred to it as duck, dive, dit, duh.
- 1:32:23Yes, all those things.
- 1:32:25Because he was no longer in control of his faculties and what was going on.
- 1:32:28So these two officers in Ford Explorer or whatever got alerted
- 1:32:33or however and came onto the scene.
- 1:32:35From the video, it didn't look like the guy was going very fast.
- 1:32:38I think he was in a coasting mode, basically, because I don't
- 1:32:40think he was feet on the pedals or anything like that, so.
- 1:32:43I would have thought you would have pulled in front of the guy, let the
- 1:32:47bumpers hit, slow him down, safely.
- 1:32:50So no, instead, they decide to go fast and furious, with the cop pulling
- 1:32:54up next to the truck, the driver has no control of, get as close as he
- 1:32:59can while the other officer climbs out of the window, into the car.
- 1:33:03The other vehicle while they're still moving and you see in the video when
- 1:33:06she gets in she just hits the ignition button and like shuts the vehicle off.
- 1:33:10So I'm like you weren't going very fast then.
- 1:33:12He was going five miles an hour.
- 1:33:14If you were able to do that, if you were only going five miles an hour,
- 1:33:17why would you risk Yourself by crawling through one window to the other because
- 1:33:23falling in between 2 vehicles and getting run over at 5 miles an hour is the
- 1:33:26same as falling in between 2 vehicles and getting run over at 50 miles.
- 1:33:30You're still getting run over.
- 1:33:31It's going to not be pleasant.
- 1:33:33And oh, my God, such praise for the, you know, whatever thinking and heroics.
- 1:33:38Only because this worked out, because if she'd fallen in between the cars, or
- 1:33:42suddenly, like, he regained something and turned the steering wheel, and suddenly
- 1:33:46the gap between the cars opened, or the gap's opening, she's hanging through,
- 1:33:50and the other guy's like, Oh no, I need to get closer, and then, like,
- 1:33:52what, smashes her in between the cars?
- 1:33:54Like, this could have ended wrong in so many ways.
- 1:33:57Yeah, for sure.
- 1:33:58It's like, was it worth it?
- 1:33:59Well, they're on TV.
- 1:34:00We're talking about it.
- 1:34:02That's true.
- 1:34:02We are doing all of those things.
- 1:34:04I'm trying to talk about it as a public service announcement of stupidity.
- 1:34:09And it's not like it was a semi.
- 1:34:11It was a Silverado.
- 1:34:12All of this could have been avoided.
- 1:34:14Good for them.
- 1:34:14I mean, I guess it comes full circle and we can say there's happy stories too.
- 1:34:19Well, it is a happy story.
- 1:34:20They were able to stop the car.
- 1:34:22Nobody else got hurt.
- 1:34:23They were able to get the guy medical attention for whatever was his ailment.
- 1:34:26So it is a happy story.
- 1:34:27I guarantee you they issued him a citation afterwards.
- 1:34:30Well, no, I don't think he'd get a citation.
- 1:34:32You wouldn't get a citation.
- 1:34:33It's reckless driving.
- 1:34:35If you had a stroke, whose fault is that?
- 1:34:37That doesn't matter.
- 1:34:38I am the law.
- 1:34:40You live in America.
- 1:34:41It's somebody's fault.
- 1:34:42Exactly.
- 1:34:43And that driver, even if he stroked out, I guarantee you they gave him a citation.
- 1:34:48He may not get any criminal penalties, but he'll definitely get civil.
- 1:34:51He's driving on the curb.
- 1:34:52How many signs did he hit?
- 1:34:54Damages, property, all that stuff.
- 1:34:56Is that why they didn't want to do the stop and front technique?
- 1:34:59Because of insurance?
- 1:35:01Yeah, yeah, there's that too.
- 1:35:02My guess.
- 1:35:02It was just a snap decision and they didn't think about it at the time.
- 1:35:05Probably at this snap decision at this 5 mile an hour.
- 1:35:11You could have stopped.
- 1:35:12Okay, there you go.
- 1:35:13If it was okay, we're going to go with it was 5 miles an hour because
- 1:35:16we talked about speeds of scooters and walking and running earlier.
- 1:35:20Yes, 5 miles an hour.
- 1:35:22You could have stopped your cruiser, got out, and jogged up
- 1:35:26to the dude and opened the door.
- 1:35:28Let's just say in the 90s this would have been a lot easier because it
- 1:35:32would have got carjacked at that speed.
- 1:35:35I swear I thought I saw where it said five miles an hour.
- 1:35:38Oh man, never ceases.
- 1:35:40All right, well folks, it's time we go behind the hit wall and
- 1:35:44talk about motorsports news.
- 1:35:46Formula One's back.
- 1:35:47So much drama in the latest.
- 1:35:50And the greatest, Adrian Newey, I hear rumors he's going to Aston Martin.
- 1:35:55Not a rumor.
- 1:35:55They paid him Fort Knox money.
- 1:35:58It begged the question.
- 1:35:59We're going to see three time world champion Fernando Alonso.
- 1:36:03Thank you very much.
- 1:36:04Oldest Formula One driver to win a championship, right, at this point.
- 1:36:08Does he stand a chance or are they going to give him the pink slip?
- 1:36:11His contracts are renewed, not that they can't still get him out.
- 1:36:14I don't remember for how many years his contracts are renewed, but I would
- 1:36:17say at least through 2025 he's there.
- 1:36:19He's there.
- 1:36:19if they're able to make car changes for next season and if those car changes are
- 1:36:24miraculously at the level of what red bull used to be it's conceivable that fernando
- 1:36:30could be a third time world champion i suppose however the real question would
- 1:36:33be are there team orders that make lance stroll one time world champion daddy
- 1:36:38pays daddy gets what he wants Yeah, but you still have to have some talent.
- 1:36:43Who?
- 1:36:44Are you kidding me?
- 1:36:45This goes back to Formula One, even to the 70s.
- 1:36:48The best cars and the best money, and it didn't really matter the driver.
- 1:36:52If they wanted you to win, they would make it happen.
- 1:36:54Let's say they equal the previous Red Bulls.
- 1:36:58Verstappen and Perez were always 1 2, 1 2, 1 2, 1 2, 1 2.
- 1:37:01It's conceivable that they could be 1 2 also, and then at that point, uh oh.
- 1:37:06And Alonso's paid to play blocker for Lance.
- 1:37:09He's the best.
- 1:37:09That's a retirement gig, which would just be bad.
- 1:37:12I don't know.
- 1:37:12That'd be the most pathetic world champion win ever because
- 1:37:16it's like, he didn't deserve it.
- 1:37:18Take it back to 1979, Jody Schecter and Gilles Villeneuve.
- 1:37:22Villeneuve was under team orders from Ferrari to basically play blocker.
- 1:37:26He was faster than Schecter, but they wanted Schecter to have the championship.
- 1:37:29And so they forced him to take a backseat for years.
- 1:37:33That sucks.
- 1:37:33And that's why I hate the team orders thing.
- 1:37:36I get it in the days of like, preserve the car and this and that,
- 1:37:40but I mean, again, there was cases with Barrichello and Schumacher.
- 1:37:43It was the same thing where Barrichello could have run the race,
- 1:37:45but he had to get out of the way to let Schumacher through, right?
- 1:37:48That's the part of Formula One I don't like.
- 1:37:50And that's where, Brad, you've said it before, it's not a driver's championship,
- 1:37:54it's a manufacturer's championship.
- 1:37:56And currently, I believe, McLaren is now winning that.
- 1:38:00Good on Zach Brown, who, by the way, was recently honored at the IMRRC
- 1:38:04Artsinger Award for Motorsports Achievement this past month.
- 1:38:08There's a full article on that on the IMRRC's website with pictures
- 1:38:11and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:38:12He celebrated that with Bobby Rahal, who was the MC of the event and a
- 1:38:16lot of other really cool people, and fortunately was supposed to be there.
- 1:38:20But due to life circumstances, To get to go, but you know,
- 1:38:23there's always next year.
- 1:38:24There's always another honoree good for McLaren.
- 1:38:27They're having their moment in the sun.
- 1:38:29So, and that bright orange is very, very reflective on the downslide of that.
- 1:38:33Brad, are you, are you getting a little blue?
- 1:38:36Are you, your heartthrob might be on the chopping block again?
- 1:38:39Not surprised.
- 1:38:40He hasn't been the same since he left Red Bull.
- 1:38:41You've made bad decisions and this is where he is and he's done.
- 1:38:45He left McLaren and now they're front runners.
- 1:38:48So is that the pattern?
- 1:38:49Every time Daniela Ricardo leaves a team, then they get better.
- 1:38:52Is that what we're seeing?
- 1:38:52Yeah, but it didn't happen to Renault slash Alpine.
- 1:38:55So is he going to be signs his teammate over Haas or
- 1:38:58wherever the hell he ended up?
- 1:38:59Oh, he's going away.
- 1:39:00There's too many junior guys.
- 1:39:01He's going to be racing with Brendan Hartley out in WEC.
- 1:39:06You know, and that might be a step in the right direction.
- 1:39:09Or no, maybe he'll just race in an Australian supercar.
- 1:39:12He'll drive the new Toyota.
- 1:39:13Oh, the super.
- 1:39:14Yeah, that'd be really good for him.
- 1:39:15I mean, again, there have been other guys that have left formula one and have had
- 1:39:19amazing careers and other disciplines of racing, and that's where I've made the
- 1:39:23argument before, what would Verstappen be like, or what would Hamilton be like if
- 1:39:27they left their ivory towers of formula one and tried to go race somewhere else?
- 1:39:31And we saw what happened with Kimi and all those.
- 1:39:34They just.
- 1:39:35They suck.
- 1:39:35Meanwhile, speaking of Haas, there's some drama.
- 1:39:38Well, I don't even know because that's old drama because they've
- 1:39:40already raced several races post this declaration of after the Italian GP.
- 1:39:45So it's like, I don't know what got seized because the cars are still on the track.
- 1:39:49Gene, Gene Haas called him and said the checks in the mail.
- 1:39:52Didn't he really?
- 1:39:53He literally like in an interview said, he said the checks in the
- 1:39:56mail, like the funds were sent.
- 1:39:57Get off my back.
- 1:39:58Leave my cars alone.
- 1:39:59Nice.
- 1:40:00He probably sent it via MoneyGram.
- 1:40:04Might as well use the sponsorship, get that discount.
- 1:40:06This is all a result of HeMightSpin or Mazispin's dad, right?
- 1:40:10This is all the Eurocoli and all their investment.
- 1:40:14Paying for everything.
- 1:40:16Yeah.
- 1:40:16Title sponsors, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:40:18And then with the invasion of Ukraine, Russia got kicked out of everything.
- 1:40:23Yeah.
- 1:40:23And so did they.
- 1:40:24And so they wanted their money back for all the endorsement and sponsorship
- 1:40:28and everything they paid into the cars.
- 1:40:30It was like 12 million or something that Jean wouldn't need to pay.
- 1:40:33But he didn't.
- 1:40:34Was it the full original amount or is it like the prorated what
- 1:40:37was left on the contract amount?
- 1:40:39I don't know.
- 1:40:40Cause I think it would be unfair to be like, you know, the Karen scenario
- 1:40:43where you're at the restaurant and you've eaten seven eighths of the meal
- 1:40:46and then you complained that it wasn't any good and you found a hair in it.
- 1:40:49Since Maz's spin crashed several of the cars, I believe.
- 1:40:52Yeah.
- 1:40:52Like I'm not paying you back.
- 1:40:55So other drama going on, Tanya, you brought this up on our discord.
- 1:41:00Sounds like the FIA is having a little moment of silence.
- 1:41:02censorship, which is dumb because so there's two layers to it.
- 1:41:06So there is rules within the FIA rulebook, blah, blah, blah, around language.
- 1:41:12It's particularly in regards to when they're doing the press stuff and they're
- 1:41:16actually in front of a whole audience.
- 1:41:17People should be watching their language.
- 1:41:19I don't disagree with that.
- 1:41:20Like, It's unprofessional.
- 1:41:21You don't need dropping f bombs when somebody's asking you how your race went.
- 1:41:24If you're getting a nut punch from one of the other drivers,
- 1:41:26you might curse a little bit.
- 1:41:28Okay, that's extenuating circumstances, but what actually has just literally
- 1:41:33happened yesterday is Verstappen actually, I think, has gotten penalized, reprimanded
- 1:41:38at the very least, but I think some sort of penalization because he cursed
- 1:41:42on a live Singapore Press conference because the next race is in Singapore.
- 1:41:46First of all, I wouldn't do anything remotely bad in the country of Singapore.
- 1:41:50I don't know if he's getting fined or something for it.
- 1:41:52And it's like, dude, why?
- 1:41:53Why do you need to do that?
- 1:41:54Right?
- 1:41:54And that is clearly in your rule book.
- 1:41:56No excuse, right?
- 1:41:57Like go cry yourself a river if you're going to complain about it now.
- 1:41:59But what they're trying to sounds like almost extend is the driver
- 1:42:04in the car when their adrenaline is to the max and their life is on
- 1:42:08the line and they're going 11 tens.
- 1:42:11If they drop an F bomb, it's like, you shouldn't be dropping F bombs.
- 1:42:14Get the hell out of here!
- 1:42:15On a closed radio system.
- 1:42:17Well, no.
- 1:42:18Because the problem is, with all like, F1 TV and all this stuff, you
- 1:42:22can go into individual people's feeds and actually be hearing the radio.
- 1:42:27And a lot of times they broadcast what some of the commentary on the radios is.
- 1:42:30So, one, don't broadcast it.
- 1:42:33Two, stop making it, you know, Publicly available, which is basically what all
- 1:42:36the drivers are coming and saying is like, don't let people listen to us then.
- 1:42:40This is crap.
- 1:42:41How can we control what we're saying in the heat of a moment thing?
- 1:42:44Every time they get hit by Ocon, I would be cursing every expletive that existed.
- 1:42:48I mean, if my teammate took me out for no reason on like lap two, I'd be
- 1:42:51like, what was this atmat for doing?
- 1:42:54Or a total Elon move.
- 1:42:56Go F yourself.
- 1:42:57Yes.
- 1:42:58Is it unsportsmanlike?
- 1:42:59Blah, blah, blah.
- 1:43:00Like, if someone is doing it in a way that's super malicious or very
- 1:43:06directed and pointed at someone, fine.
- 1:43:08There is some level of reprimanding that needs to take place.
- 1:43:11But if you're on your team rating and you're like, Fuck!
- 1:43:13Sorry, guys.
- 1:43:14Like, messed that up.
- 1:43:15Like Who cares?
- 1:43:16Move on with life.
- 1:43:17Don't broadcast it then if we're worried that somebody's sensitive and hearing it.
- 1:43:21I think that's silly.
- 1:43:22Hopefully it doesn't get put into effect.
- 1:43:24That's just crap.
- 1:43:25Well, it's also just the sport itself.
- 1:43:27It has the luxury of having the access to that.
- 1:43:30You don't have that with like football.
- 1:43:31Football or baseball or any of those kinds of things.
- 1:43:34It's part of the realism of racing.
- 1:43:37Like you said, these guys are under stress.
- 1:43:38They're under a lot of load and shit happens.
- 1:43:41Let's just call a spade a spade.
- 1:43:42And that was multiple drivers comments too.
- 1:43:45It's like, we're broadcasted.
- 1:43:47That's why you hear it.
- 1:43:48They're like, mic up anyone on the soccer pitch or in a basketball game.
- 1:43:53I guarantee you they're cursing at each other.
- 1:43:55You just can't hear it.
- 1:43:57And to that point, they actually do Mike some individual players.
- 1:44:01And some of those other sports, they just don't broadcast.
- 1:44:04They edit and filter out what the general public hears.
- 1:44:07But there are instances like Tanya just mentioned, where they actually do mic
- 1:44:11some of the players at these events.
- 1:44:13They could do the same thing here too, because if F1 TV feed or whatever,
- 1:44:17they could put a delay on it and then they could filter out the curse word.
- 1:44:23Yeah, exactly.
- 1:44:24What's a, what's a two or three second delay going to do?
- 1:44:26You for each team.
- 1:44:28You got somebody sitting there to edit it.
- 1:44:29It used to be seven seconds.
- 1:44:30That gave them enough time to filter that kind of stuff out.
- 1:44:33And now with the AI technology and everything else we have, it
- 1:44:35should be an automatic bleep.
- 1:44:36Just bleep it.
- 1:44:37You don't even have to filter it out.
- 1:44:38Just bleep it.
- 1:44:39Bleep.
- 1:44:39Done.
- 1:44:40Well, you know what?
- 1:44:40Can't be bleeped out.
- 1:44:41And I couldn't believe this corporate espionage underfoot
- 1:44:46in the world of IndyCar.
- 1:44:47Wow.
- 1:44:47What year are we in?
- 1:44:49I know, right?
- 1:44:50This is some cloak and dagger.
- 1:44:52Spy versus spy stuff the way the story reads and I love the headline It sounds
- 1:44:57like super bad fbi agents carry out operation at ray hall headquarters
- 1:45:02You're like, what is this about?
- 1:45:04Like, what did they do?
- 1:45:05Who died?
- 1:45:06Okay, whatever apparently they hired somebody from andretti global came
- 1:45:10over to ray hall's team and I don't know if this person took intellectual
- 1:45:16property from Andretti and then here's my USB stick, plug it into the computer.
- 1:45:20Or if it's like tried to do a brain dump of everything he knew
- 1:45:24and giving them an advantage.
- 1:45:26You sign non competes.
- 1:45:27You're supposed to be good about that stuff and NDAs and
- 1:45:30all those kinds of things.
- 1:45:31But I don't know.
- 1:45:32I'm curious to see how this plays out, but there's really not any
- 1:45:36more information than exactly what's in this article from racer.
- 1:45:39com.
- 1:45:39It's just like.
- 1:45:40The FBI went in and took all their computers and I guess
- 1:45:43they'll never get 'em back.
- 1:45:44Who knows?
- 1:45:44The shadow knows.
- 1:45:45I also wanted to just say, I learned something today.
- 1:45:49Now I knew that you could watch WEC races on HBO Max or just, it's just Max
- 1:45:57now, which came in handy today because Adam was home sick, so I needed to.
- 1:46:03Watch him needed something to do.
- 1:46:05So I put on something palatable that a less than one year old would be able
- 1:46:08to watch what I did not know that I'm pleasantly surprised by is you can also
- 1:46:12get the full MotoGP schedule as well.
- 1:46:15So I was sitting there watching Mark Marquez's return to glory,
- 1:46:20catching some of that old stuff.
- 1:46:22It was quite nice.
- 1:46:23So if anybody's a motorcycle fan and has been looking to try and watch the MotoGP
- 1:46:28races, you can catch them on the max app.
- 1:46:30They're also on TNT sports.
- 1:46:32Which are sometimes broadcast on true TV.
- 1:46:34And then all the WEC races are out there.
- 1:46:36They were at CODA, I think September 1st, which was fun to watch.
- 1:46:41I learned something new today.
- 1:46:42And don't forget the IMSA season is wrapping up here
- 1:46:45in the early part of October.
- 1:46:47Oh yeah.
- 1:46:47They're going to Petit Le Mans.
- 1:46:49Are you going?
- 1:46:49I want to go so bad.
- 1:46:52But I can't because of your third child, we'll just say I'm
- 1:46:56grounded for a little while.
- 1:46:57But yes, if all had gone to plan, I was going to meet up with some friends.
- 1:47:01There's an ACO event going on down there.
- 1:47:03A bunch of other stuff that weekend would love to be a Petit Lamar.
- 1:47:05I absolutely adore road Atlanta.
- 1:47:07I think that's a.
- 1:47:08Fantastic event, but you know, sometimes it's not in the cards.
- 1:47:11There's always next year, which I am still hopeful to do a Lamont's classic.
- 1:47:15So looking forward to that, but we'll see.
- 1:47:16We'll see if I can swing France again, that would be absolutely amazing.
- 1:47:20But there's other cool stuff.
- 1:47:21Goodwood, a million other things I'd love to do.
- 1:47:24Goodwood is on my bucket list.
- 1:47:25Goodwood and the revival.
- 1:47:27I want to do the Isle of Man.
- 1:47:28I'm not a big bike guy when it comes to following motorcycle,
- 1:47:32like motor GP and all that stuff.
- 1:47:34Like my dad was, but I'm like, Isle of Man, be pretty cool.
- 1:47:38Yeah, well, that wraps up our motor sports news.
- 1:47:41Oh wait, no, it doesn't.
- 1:47:42We've got one more piece here and that's from the virtual world.
- 1:47:45So if you guys go back into this month's catalog, you'll see that we did an episode
- 1:47:48with Steffi Dow from Innit Esports.
- 1:47:50She's a world champion motocross rider.
- 1:47:54She's got a sim for STEM program and something else called screen to speed.
- 1:47:57And they have a lot of these tournaments going on throughout the season and
- 1:48:01they have one coming up right now.
- 1:48:02They were looking for people to qualify, to represent the United States.
- 1:48:07eSports games.
- 1:48:08We posted about this on our discord and a couple other places where you can
- 1:48:11get access to up to date information from GTM and NPN headquarters.
- 1:48:16But what's really cool is you can continue to follow the action
- 1:48:19of the global eSports games.
- 1:48:21You can join their discord.
- 1:48:22You can follow them on Twitch and the real life finale.
- 1:48:27Is either going to be in South America or in Abu Dhabi, look for
- 1:48:31that in December, but you can learn more about what's going on in the
- 1:48:35global esports games at initesports.
- 1:48:37gg.
- 1:48:39Go from there, there'll be a link to the global esports games qualifier
- 1:48:43and the link and information is also in our show notes.
- 1:48:45So good luck to everybody from Init Esports is going to be competing on this
- 1:48:49global stage in the virtual racing world.
- 1:48:52As a reminder, our Motorsports News is brought to us in
- 1:48:54partnership with the International Motor Racing Research Center.
- 1:48:57A couple quick teasers for the remainder of the season.
- 1:49:01As I mentioned before, there's a write up, there's video, and other
- 1:49:05coverage of the Argottsinger Awards Night honoring Zach Brown, the
- 1:49:08CEO of McLaren, at RacingArchives.
- 1:49:11org.
- 1:49:11We also posted a And some of it on our clubhouse website, club.
- 1:49:14gtmotorsports.
- 1:49:15org.
- 1:49:15And there's other racing outlets that you probably subscribe to that are covering
- 1:49:19the same press releases from the event.
- 1:49:21So check that out.
- 1:49:23I will say that racingarchives.
- 1:49:24org is the only place to get access to the YouTube video compilation that was
- 1:49:29made for the events of that's there.
- 1:49:30And don't forget at the tail end of October, starting on the 31st Halloween.
- 1:49:36The Real Wheel Film Festival kicks off the 8th Annual Michael R.
- 1:49:41Argettsinger Symposium on Motorsports History.
- 1:49:43If you can't come to the Glen for any of that, we will be live
- 1:49:46streaming it on our Twitch, twitch.
- 1:49:48tv forward slash GrandTouringMotorsports.
- 1:49:50So be sure to follow us for more details on that.
- 1:49:55And if you can't even catch the live stream, all that stuff will be available
- 1:49:59after the fact, chopped up and turned into podcast episodes and things like
- 1:50:02that throughout the rest of the season.
- 1:50:04And you might recall that the IMRRC loves to do a Corvette sweepstakes every year.
- 1:50:11This year is no exception and the Corvette sweepstakes is back.
- 1:50:15It is running through spring of next year.
- 1:50:18You can enter now for your chance to win a 2024 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package.
- 1:50:23Details on racingarchives.
- 1:50:25org.
- 1:50:26And don't forget that if you don't want the Corvette, that's perfectly fine.
- 1:50:29There's always a cash option and all the proceeds go to benefit the continued
- 1:50:34operation of the center, which is a 501c3 not for profit organization.
- 1:50:39And with that, Brad.
- 1:50:40Take us home.
- 1:50:41As a reminder, you can find tons of upcoming local shows and events
- 1:50:45at the Ultimate Reference for Car Enthusiasts, collectorcarguide.
