- 0:27make travel and trade nearly impossible. and
- 0:30disrupt two wars. Plematologists are still trying
- 0:34to understand the cause of what became known
- 0:37as the Great Frost. So now you know. And now,

- 2:47Sunny mornings send you. In local news, the Massachusetts
- 2:53Bay Transportation Authority will not be running
- 2:56commuter rail to or from North Station most weekends
- 2:59through April. From January through April, trains
- 3:03will be suspended on several weekends to allow
- 3:05for necessary signal improvement work, according
- 3:08to Kiilas, which operates the commuter rail for
- 3:11the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
- 3:15The project will replace an obsolete signal system.
- 3:18which controls the flow of commuter rail and
- 3:21Amtrak trains, with a new microprocessor system
- 3:24that requires less maintenance. Riders should
- 3:27budget extra time if relying on the subway or
- 3:30shuttle buses during this period. Now onto sports.
- 3:40Those who tuned into the Sunday night football
- 3:43matchup between the Ravens and Steelers last
- 3:45night, ended the regular season with a treat,
- 3:48as the two AFC North rivals went blow -for -blow,
- 3:52resulting in the Steelers escaping with a 26
- 3:55-24 win and the AFC North crown. How they got
- 4:00there, though, might have been an act of divine
- 4:02intervention. Ravens kicker Tyler Loop sliced
- 4:06a kick wide right of the uprights as time expired,
- 4:10gifting the Steelers the win and answering the
- 4:12prayers of many Steelers faithful. Prior to the
- 4:16game, a priest was seen blessing an end zone
- 4:19with holy water, the same end zone where Loop's
- 4:23missed field goal try occurred. With this victory,
- 4:27Pittsburgh secured the last remaining ticket
- 4:29to the 2025 NFL playoffs. Pittsburgh will defend
- 4:34home turf against the Houston Texans on January
- 4:3713th in the wild card round. And now the NFL
- 4:41playoff picture is heating up with six wild -card
- 4:44matchups showcasing thrilling drama. The Packers
- 4:48and Bears rivalry resumes after splitting recent
- 4:51games, while the Bills face Jackson Bills' league
- 4:54-leading defense. Justin Herbert seeks his first
- 4:58playoff win against a Patriots team that finished
- 5:02second in the AFC. The Texans arrive in Pittsburgh,
- 5:06riding a nine -game winning streak. And with
- 5:10Matthew Stafford making an MV key case, the Rams
- 5:13aim to rebound against the Panthers in local
- 5:17sports. Last season, when the Patriots faced
- 5:21the Los Angeles Chargers, New England trudged
- 5:24off following a 40 -7 loss in one of its final
- 5:27games before Mike Vrabel was hired as coach.
- 5:32After Vrabel led the Patriots from worst to first
- 5:35in the ASC East, New England will host the Chargers
- 5:38again this time in the playoffs. Ramondre Stevenson
- 5:43ran for two touchdowns and caught another from
- 5:45most valuable player contender Drake May as the
- 5:49Patriots completed their remarkable turnaround
- 5:51season with a 38 -10 win over the Miami Dolphins
- 5:55on Sunday. The Patriots finished 14 -3, their
- 5:59most victories since they won the Super Bowl
- 6:02to cap that 2016 season. They will be the number
- 6:06two seed and host the seven seeded chargers in
- 6:09the wild card round next weekend. In top news,
- 6:16going meat -free for just a few weeks can trigger
- 6:18surprising changes, from gut bacteria shifts
- 6:21to lower cholesterol. Research suggests that
- 6:25brief periods without meat can lead to weight
- 6:27loss, improved heart health, and changes in gut
- 6:31and immune systems. Replacing calorie -dense
- 6:35meats with fiber -rich plant foods can help reduce
- 6:38overeating and promote weight loss. Studies indicate
- 6:42that vegetarian diets can lower blood pressure
- 6:45and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of
- 6:48heart disease. Additionally, early findings suggest
- 6:52that a plant -based diet may enhance immune function.
- 6:56However, experts caution that smart food choices
- 6:59are essential for optimal health. In business
- 7:04news, stocks finished trading on Friday with
- 7:08the Dow Jones Industrial Average leading the
- 7:10major indexes higher to open the new year, as
- 7:14investors began to evaluate the 2026 landscape.
- 7:18For the holiday -abbreviated week, the blue -chip
- 7:21Dow gained 319 points, or 0 .66%. The benchmark
- 7:28Standard & Poor's 500 picked up 0 .2%. while
- 7:32the tech -heavy Nasdaq composite finished just
- 7:35below the flatline. The first full week of trading
- 7:39in 2026 will see economic data get back on track
- 7:43after last year's disruption. The December jobs
- 7:46report is expected to show a slowdown in hiring,
- 7:49with non -farm payrolls projected to grow by
- 7:5255 ,000. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is up 5
- 7:58% over the weekend to $93 ,000. Ethereum is up
- 8:036 % to just over 3 ,000. And XRP is up 14 % to
- 8:10$2 .15. Moving on to a more local vibe. In our

- 9:01Let's talk science. Scientists have just measured
- 9:04the mass of a rogue planet about the same size
- 9:07as Saturn for the first time. These planets drift
- 9:11through interstellar space without a star, making
- 9:14them challenging to study. Led by Subodhan of
- 9:18Peking University, the research team analyzed
- 9:21how the planet's gravity bent light from a distant
- 9:24star. This microlensing event was observed from
- 9:28both Earth and the now -retired Gaia Space Observatory.
- 9:32The study marks a breakthrough for understanding
- 9:34these mysterious cosmic bodies, with hopes for
- 9:38further research using NASA's Nancy Grace Roman
- 9:41Space Telescope, set to launch in September.
- 9:49William H. Macy, one of the stars of Dan Fogelman's
- 9:53upcoming NFL drama on Hulu, pulled the curtain
- 9:56a bit on the series, which had been shrouded
- 9:59in secrecy. Macy revealed the title and setting
- 10:03of the anticipated series, saying it's about
- 10:06a football team, nominally the Cleveland Browns.
- 10:09It's called The Land, because that's what people
- 10:13from Cleveland call it. He expressed his excitement,
- 10:17stating, The plots are so profound, and I'm having
- 10:20the time of my life. The series features Chris
- 10:24Maloney as the head coach, with Macy playing
- 10:27the team owner. Macy added, the NFL is completely
- 10:32behind our show, so we've got complete access.
- 10:36Well, all righty, folks. It's time for the quote
- 10:39of the day. And today, our quote comes from the
- 10:43American inventor and visionary, Buckminster
- 10:46Fuller. And he said, And that's a wrap for this
