- 3:17Speaker 1: Evening. Good evening, and welcome to the Crew podcast season two,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and I am your host Prophetist Alma Thomas of Inspirational
- 3:31Speaker 1: Moments with Prophets. Team Tonight is one of my bonus shows,
- 3:37Speaker 1: so it's gonna go a little different on tonight. Tonight,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna since we're in the beginning of going back
- 3:45Speaker 1: to school, other places of starting schools, some will be
- 3:49Speaker 1: starting soon. So tonight I wanted to talk about something
- 3:56Speaker 1: that is very common in the early childhood education feel
- 4:01Speaker 1: I've been the teacher for over thirty two years at Headstart,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and one of the most common questions that I get
- 4:12Speaker 1: is what did little Johnny do all day? All you
- 4:15Speaker 1: guys do is play and they think of us as
- 4:19Speaker 1: glorified dig care leaders, but actually we are certified teachers
- 4:27Speaker 1: in the age group of three and four. So tonight
- 4:30Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about some of the benefits of play.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Play benefits every aspect of child development. The act of
- 4:43Speaker 1: play comes so naturally it can seem to be a
- 4:48Speaker 1: little more than a simple, joyful experience. Many child care
- 4:54Speaker 1: development experts believe that play is how infant and toddlers
- 5:01Speaker 1: and preschool learn about their world. Play provides children with
- 5:08Speaker 1: opportunities to learn about and master relationships, language, math, science,
- 5:17Speaker 1: problem solving in their bodies. Let's look more deeply at
- 5:24Speaker 1: all the ways play contributes to development. Building relationships through play,
- 5:34Speaker 1: One of the most important things that young children learn
- 5:38Speaker 1: to play is how to form and maintain relationships others.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Play builds caregivers relationships. Three month old Cayton lies in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the lapse of his in home family kidgiver. Cayden stares
- 6:01Speaker 1: at her and then cools de Lisa watches Caden and
- 6:06Speaker 1: repeats the sound he makes. Kaden smiles and wiggles as
- 6:12Speaker 1: Delisa smiles back. Both Caden and Delisa clearly enjoy their
- 6:19Speaker 1: play together. Even very young babies enjoy play. They make
- 6:26Speaker 1: eye contact and sounds to their parents and caregivers. When
- 6:34Speaker 1: the adult responds back to them. They may wiggle or cool.
- 6:41Speaker 1: These back and forth interactions are the first steps towards
- 6:47Speaker 1: forming a relationship and are the play are very young
- 6:53Speaker 1: infants plays. An important part of relationships between babies and
- 6:59Speaker 1: kids is babies who have nurturing relationships in their life
- 7:04Speaker 1: have better play skills. These closed relationships support infant and
- 7:11Speaker 1: title of play play build peer relationships. Twelve month old
- 7:19Speaker 1: Isaiah is standing at the door clapping his hands. He
- 7:26Speaker 1: shouts fifty down there here down the hallway. His kid gave.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Alisa comes to see who is talking to. She realized
- 7:36Speaker 1: that fifteen month old Heidi is arriving with her mom.
- 7:41Speaker 1: While Alisa reached them, both Hidie and Isaiah smile each
- 7:46Speaker 1: other and say hi. Isaiah titled or to get a
- 7:51Speaker 1: ball and turns to see if Heidi is following him.
- 7:55Speaker 1: She is. He gets the ball and he says to
- 7:59Speaker 1: her ball and hands it to her. Hattie takes the
- 8:05Speaker 1: ball and they begin to play by passing it back
- 8:10Speaker 1: and forth. Isaiah and Hatti might seem pretty young to
- 8:15Speaker 1: be playing together. When babies have many opportunities to play together,
- 8:21Speaker 1: they begin to form early friendships. Have you ever noticed
- 8:28Speaker 1: how even very young infants are interested excuse me, are
- 8:35Speaker 1: interested in other babies. Maybe you've seen babies roll towards
- 8:42Speaker 1: each other until they are close enough to touch. You
- 8:47Speaker 1: may have noticed that some babies even seem to form
- 8:51Speaker 1: friendships with each other. They might seek each other out
- 8:57Speaker 1: every day, or you might notice they are please to
- 9:00Speaker 1: spend time together. Each play episode adds a little bit
- 9:06Speaker 1: more to the friendship, building up over time until children
- 9:12Speaker 1: play easily together some types of play. Children learn and
- 9:20Speaker 1: develop through different types of play. Physical play. Physical play
- 9:27Speaker 1: can include dancing or ball games. This helps your child
- 9:34Speaker 1: build their muscles, their bones, and their physical skills. You
- 9:39Speaker 1: should encourage your child to move as much as possible.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Social play by playing with others, children learn how to
- 9:52Speaker 1: take turns, cooperate, and share. This also helps them to
- 10:00Speaker 1: develop their language skills. You can encourage social play by
- 10:06Speaker 1: taking your child to the payground. Parents and toddless groups
- 10:12Speaker 1: can also help them meet other children. Constructive play is
- 10:19Speaker 1: where a children experiment with drawing, music, and building things.
- 10:26Speaker 1: A side note, don't ask your child try to guess
- 10:33Speaker 1: what they made, and if they draw a picture, don't say, oh,
- 10:37Speaker 1: that's a nice elephant, and they'll say No, that's not
- 10:40Speaker 1: an elephant, that's a tiger or whatever. So it's easier.
- 10:46Speaker 1: It makes your child feel more confident if you say,
- 10:50Speaker 1: tell me about your picture, what colors did you use,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and then they will tell you what they're drawing the
- 10:59Speaker 1: colors that they use. This helps them to develop their
- 11:06Speaker 1: movement skills and become less clumsy. Constructive play also helps
- 11:13Speaker 1: children to understand distance in size and size. An example
- 11:19Speaker 1: of this could be objects are small far away opposites.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Encourage your child to do outs and crafts and play
- 11:33Speaker 1: with building blocks. Try not to use too many cookie
- 11:38Speaker 1: cutter projects, so the projects that you buy and your
- 11:44Speaker 1: symbol and your child's project is supposed to look exactly
- 11:49Speaker 1: like yours. No, give the children the materials and let
- 11:54Speaker 1: them manipulate them how they want to. That increases they
- 11:59Speaker 1: create creativity and imagination. Let your child work out problems
- 12:08Speaker 1: for themselves doing constructive play. This is important. It is
- 12:14Speaker 1: better than trying to show them to the right way
- 12:18Speaker 1: to do something. Fantasy play using their imagination. Doing play
- 12:26Speaker 1: is good for your child's communication skills, is good for
- 12:30Speaker 1: them to create their own games. You can encourage your
- 12:35Speaker 1: child to develop their imagination by giving them props. These
- 12:41Speaker 1: could be things such as a risk and roll if
- 12:44Speaker 1: they are pretending to be a bacup dress of costume
- 12:50Speaker 1: also encourage fantasy play games with rules. Games with rules
- 12:58Speaker 1: can teach children about fairness. You can play simple games
- 13:04Speaker 1: like Simon Says or Dunk Duck Goose with younger children.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Board games are also a good way of teaching children
- 13:15Speaker 1: about rules, as well as being a fun family activity.
- 13:22Speaker 1: A lot of parents would always tell me that they
- 13:27Speaker 1: don't have time to reinforce the skills that we're learning
- 13:33Speaker 1: in the classroom or teach their children new skills. And
- 13:37Speaker 1: I said, you can teach your children by doing the
- 13:43Speaker 1: daily activities that you do. Give your child a chore,
- 13:50Speaker 1: have them responsible for making up their own bed, cleaning
- 13:54Speaker 1: up their own room, putting their shorting their toys where
- 13:58Speaker 1: they go, putting the cars with the cause the ball
- 14:01Speaker 1: with the ball. This teaches them classification and sorting. You
- 14:06Speaker 1: can put magnetic letters on your refrigerator and this will
- 14:12Speaker 1: teach them the letters of the alphabet. And you can
- 14:16Speaker 1: also teach them alphabet sounds. And if you are cooking,
- 14:24Speaker 1: you can have them measure out one cup of milk,
- 14:31Speaker 1: break two eggs. This also teaches children early stem cells skills.
- 14:39Speaker 1: So you can have them sort out the laundry and
- 14:44Speaker 1: to light and dark colors, pair up the socks with
- 14:48Speaker 1: the socks that go together, put their shoes together. This
- 14:52Speaker 1: is all part of classification and sorting early math skills.
- 14:59Speaker 1: LI try to limit the TV time, try to limit
- 15:05Speaker 1: the tablet time, because we're working in three and four
- 15:09Speaker 1: children age children and the beginning of the year we
- 15:13Speaker 1: do an assessment and we ask the parents about their children.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And for the last five or so years before I
- 15:26Speaker 1: retired four years ago, parents just say their children's favorite
- 15:31Speaker 1: activity is to play with an iPad. I recommend for
- 15:38Speaker 1: my parents to get coloring books so their kids could
- 15:42Speaker 1: learn how to color in between the lines. They can.
- 15:48Speaker 1: You know that they're paying all these money, this money
- 15:52Speaker 1: for these expensive electronics and you press a button and
- 15:58Speaker 1: you color the picture, but children are unable to color
- 16:05Speaker 1: inside the lines. Music is also very important because in
- 16:11Speaker 1: music you can teach them alphabets, colors on the days
- 16:17Speaker 1: of the week. They have children's songs that sing all
- 16:22Speaker 1: these concepts, so that's very important. When you're in the
- 16:27Speaker 1: car and you can ask them what letter does McDonald's
- 16:32Speaker 1: starts with we're going to and they look at this
- 16:37Speaker 1: side and they say Walmart. So they begin to identify
- 16:42Speaker 1: letters and sounds that way, when reading stories to your children,
- 16:49Speaker 1: ask them open ended questions that there's no right or
- 16:54Speaker 1: wrong answer to. Ask them what, why, how? Questions that
- 17:00Speaker 1: will increase their vocabulary and their confidence skills. So as
- 17:07Speaker 1: you can see that play is a very important concept
- 17:13Speaker 1: to early childhood education when you go and pick up
- 17:18Speaker 1: your children and you see that they've been playing all day,
- 17:24Speaker 1: but they're learning their skills that they need for kindergarten.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So I thank you very much for being here on
- 17:36Speaker 1: tonight with inspirational moments with properties Tea. I will be
- 17:43Speaker 1: back on August seventh with another episode of how our
- 17:54Speaker 1: children can learn through play the skills that they need
- 17:59Speaker 1: for kindergarten. So if you know any parents who have
- 18:05Speaker 1: preschooled children, I will be talking about a lot of
- 18:11Speaker 1: the concerns that early childhood parents have concerning early childhood education,
- 18:20Speaker 1: what is developmentally appropriate and what is not. And I
- 18:25Speaker 1: began this episode without praying, so I know that I'm
- 18:33Speaker 1: going to have to pray out, Dear Heavenly Father and
- 18:40Speaker 1: the precious name of your son, Jesus We thank you
- 18:44Speaker 1: for the children that you have entrusted in our care.
- 18:48Speaker 1: We thank you for the gifts and talents that you
- 18:50Speaker 1: have given each one. Excuse me, as they go back
- 18:56Speaker 1: to school, God, we ask that you put it ahead
- 19:00Speaker 1: edge of protection around them, protect them from all abuse
- 19:05Speaker 1: and misuse, open up their wisdom of understanding. Let everything
- 19:12Speaker 1: that they're taught during this year be brought back there
- 19:16Speaker 1: to their remembrance and Jesus' name. God, bless the parents.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You know the things that they have need of. Grant
- 19:25Speaker 1: them and the name of Jesus, our God. We give
- 19:29Speaker 1: you praise, and we give you honor. And as we
- 19:32Speaker 1: leave this line, but never from your presence. Stay with
- 19:37Speaker 1: us God and our individual homes. Protect us from bias thieves.
- 19:43Speaker 1: If there's any sick among them, God touch their body
- 19:47Speaker 1: in a mighty way. God, raise them up to every
- 19:51Speaker 1: bit of health. And the name of Jesus. We stand
- 19:55Speaker 1: on your promises. God, we believe your word on tonight.
- 20:00Speaker 1: In Jesus' name, we pray good night, good night, good night.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Thank you for hanging out with Property's Tea of inspirational moments.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Oh mercy, nursing, Oh things ain't what things you stupid.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Where you all the
- 20:28Speaker 1: Blue sky, it's bo
