- 0:00Aloha. Wednesday morning in Hawaiʻi. Light winds and scattered afternoon showers today, especially on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu — I'm Mele with what's happening.
- 1:37Mountain tops on Kauaʻi may be shrouded in clouds this morning. Tomorrow looks similar — sun mixing with brief showers and still calm winds. If you're hiking or driving the Hāna Highway over the next two days, watch for those afternoon showers. Leeward shores are your best bet for beach time right now.
- 1:52Surf is small across most islands — 3.5 feet at Waikīkī, 3.2 at Waimea, 2.5 at Kāʻanapali, and just 1.1 feet on the Big Island. Safe for swimmers and snorkelers. Kauaʻi's running 4.5 feet with shore break and rip currents, so watch for those if you're heading north shore.
- 2:06Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trail closures this week — Sulfur Banks Trail, Kīpukapuaulu, the Lava Tube Bridge under replacement, and Kahuku Unit roads closed. Kīlauea is on advisory status. If you're planning to visit the park, check the NPS site for which specific trails and areas are accessible before you head out.
- 2:22Our piece on Hawaiʻi's fall ocean flip breaks down where it's actually safe to swim in October and November. The islands flip hard in autumn — north-facing beaches that work now turn rough with winter swell, and south and west shores become your swim zones. It's a shift a lot of visitors don't anticipate. Full piece is on the site.
- 2:39Trade winds pick up Friday through Sunday, and rain moves in over Maui and the Big Island late Saturday into Sunday. South-facing beach swells will also climb toward normal levels by next week.
- 2:49Today's a beach day on the leeward side. Talk to you in the morning.
