Latest / Beyond The Horizon / Mega Edition: Chad Daybell Is Found Guilty On All Counts (10/25/26)
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. Yesterday,
- 0:03Speaker 1: the good folks of Idaho did the world a favor
- 0:07Speaker 1: and they found Chad Daybell's bitch ass guilty. Not only
- 0:11Speaker 1: did they find him guilty, they found him guilty on
- 0:13Speaker 1: all charges. And honestly, if you were following along with
- 0:16Speaker 1: the trial, then you know that it was a foregone conclusion.
- 0:19Speaker 1: There was no way that Chad Daybell was going to
- 0:22Speaker 1: find a way to wiggle off this hook. And we
- 0:24Speaker 1: saw it time and time again throughout the trial. They
- 0:27Speaker 1: had no tenable ground to defend. They had nowhere to go.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They had nothing they could sink their teeth into. And
- 0:34Speaker 1: even when he tried to throw Lori Vallow under the bus,
- 0:37Speaker 1: it didn't work out so well. Because guess what, stupid?
- 0:40Speaker 1: You goddamn stunad. You were right there the whole entire time,
- 0:44Speaker 1: right with her, making decisions, and creating this whole entire
- 0:48Speaker 1: fantasy land that all of you morons lived in. And now,
- 0:52Speaker 1: all that's left is to see if this disgusting piece
- 0:55Speaker 1: of garbage gets the death penalty, which he most certainly should.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And for me, I'm just glad that this is over
- 1:01Speaker 1: and done with at this point. Of all of the
- 1:03Speaker 1: horrible stuff that we cover, whenever we have a story
- 1:05Speaker 1: like this with kids involved, it's always that much more
- 1:08Speaker 1: difficult to try and make heads or tails of. Who
- 1:11Speaker 1: the hell wants to hurt a child? And the second
- 1:14Speaker 1: you do, you become one of the most disgusting individuals
- 1:17Speaker 1: on the planet. And never mind hurting children the way
- 1:20Speaker 1: that Chad Daybell did. It's almost too much to even
- 1:23Speaker 1: wrap your mind around. So I'm beyond relieved that the
- 1:26Speaker 1: jury didn't take a long time to deliberate here. and
- 1:29Speaker 1: we got the verdict relatively quickly, because this dude deserves
- 1:33Speaker 1: everything that's on the way. Today's article is from Law
- 1:36Speaker 1: and Crime, and the headline, Doomsday Cult Author Chad Daybell
- 1:40Speaker 1: Guilty of Murdering Lori Vallow's Children and His First Wife.
- 1:44Speaker 1: This article was authored by Colin Kambacher. On two different
- 1:49Speaker 1: days in September of 2019, Chad, Guy Daybell, 55, murdered
- 1:54Speaker 1: his second wife's children, In October 2019, he murdered his
- 1:58Speaker 1: first wife, a jury in Ada County, Idaho determined, on Thursday.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The defendant conspired with his second wife, convicted killer Lori Vallow, 50,
- 2:07Speaker 1: to kill his first wife, Tammy Daybell, 49, and Tylee
- 2:11Speaker 1: Ashley Ryan, 16, Vallow's biological daughter from a prior marriage,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and Joshua Jackson J.J. Vallow, 7, Vallow's adopted son. Daybell
- 2:22Speaker 1: was found guilty of all the indicted counts against him,
- 2:25Speaker 1: including multiple counts of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit murder,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and conspiracy to commit grand theft by deception. Chad Daybell's
- 2:33Speaker 1: about to be real popular in jail. Once he gets
- 2:35Speaker 1: to prison, all these other inmates are going to know
- 2:38Speaker 1: exactly who he is, what he did, and why he's there,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and they're going to press his ass. And I wouldn't
- 2:43Speaker 1: be shocked to hear that he gets the Larry Nassar
- 2:45Speaker 1: treatment at some point. After five hours and 48 minutes
- 2:48Speaker 1: of deliberations that began late Wednesday afternoon, 12 jurors decided
- 2:53Speaker 1: Daybell's fate. The timestamp on the reading of their decision
- 2:56Speaker 1: was just after 2 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. The defendant
- 3:00Speaker 1: appeared still as the verdicts were read, and it's funny
- 3:03Speaker 1: you would think that this great prophet named Chad Daybell
- 3:06Speaker 1: would have seen all of this coming, considering he has,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, portals, he can talk to God, the angel
- 3:12Speaker 1: Moroni came to visit him, the whole entire thing. So
- 3:15Speaker 1: you would think that Chad Daybell would be all over
- 3:17Speaker 1: this and know that this was coming.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Oh, wait up. What's that?
- 3:21Speaker 1: He didn't talk to God? He wasn't hanging out with angels?
- 3:25Speaker 1: He's just a stunad fucking moron.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh, that's right.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Breaking news. Nobody's being visited by angels. Nobody's talking to God.
- 3:32Speaker 1: None of that's real. At least not when we're talking
- 3:35Speaker 1: about Chad Daybell. This dude's about as much of a
- 3:37Speaker 1: prophet as Frank Gallagher is a good father. The children
- 3:41Speaker 1: disappeared and were considered missing for some time before the
- 3:44Speaker 1: horrible truth became clear that they were both killed one
- 3:48Speaker 1: after another in early and late September of 2019. The
- 3:52Speaker 1: killer's first wife was originally believed to have died from
- 3:55Speaker 1: natural causes, but hindsight and knowledge gave authorities cause to
- 3:59Speaker 1: re-evaluate that determination. Yeah, I would think that they had cause.
- 4:03Speaker 1: And as far as Chad Daybell's kids go, I told you, folks.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I told you that they had the Hills Have Eyes
- 4:10Speaker 1: kind of vibe, and then they get up there and
- 4:11Speaker 1: lie for their gross-ass dad, because there's no doubt in
- 4:14Speaker 1: my mind that they got up there and impeached themselves.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And then, the whole situation with Garth telling his friend
- 4:21Speaker 1: a different story... I said from Jump Street that all
- 4:24Speaker 1: of these people who were involved from Zulema to Melanie
- 4:27Speaker 1: to the kids, I have questions. There's no adult on
- 4:30Speaker 1: this planet that should be sitting around listening to the
- 4:33Speaker 1: shit that Chad Daybell's pumping and thinking it's a good idea.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And if you do think it's a good idea, my friend,
- 4:40Speaker 1: you're a fucking moron too. Tylee was last seen alive
- 4:43Speaker 1: in a photograph taken at Yellowstone National Park on September 8th, 2019.
- 4:48Speaker 1: During Daybell's trial, it was established that JJ was killed
- 4:51Speaker 1: sometime during the early morning hours of September 23, 2019.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Tammy Daybell died on October 19, 2019. Vallow was initially
- 5:01Speaker 1: arrested in Hawaii in February of 2020 on charges of
- 5:05Speaker 1: child desertion. Daybell was arrested in June 2020 after the
- 5:09Speaker 1: children's bodies were found buried at his property. The two
- 5:13Speaker 1: defendants were indicted for the murder of Vallow's children and
- 5:16Speaker 1: Tammy Daybell in May of 2021 on multiple counts of
- 5:20Speaker 1: murder in the first degree. conspiracy to commit murder in
- 5:23Speaker 1: the first degree, and grand theft by deception. Initially prosecuted
- 5:27Speaker 1: as husband and wife co-defendants, their cases were severed in
- 5:30Speaker 1: March 2023. Vallow was convicted of her crimes in May
- 5:35Speaker 1: of 2023. Her husband's trial took place during the same
- 5:38Speaker 1: month this year. And I think him getting his trial
- 5:41Speaker 1: severed really hurt him down the road, because he basically
- 5:45Speaker 1: gave the prosecutors a run-through, right? We're going to nail
- 5:49Speaker 1: Lori Vallow and then we'll use the same ass playbook
- 5:51Speaker 1: on Chad Daybell. Now, of course, that gives his defense
- 5:54Speaker 1: a little bit of an idea of what's coming, but
- 5:57Speaker 1: they had no tenable ground. They had nowhere to defend.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So in the end, all that really happened was Chad
- 6:03Speaker 1: Daybell gave the prosecution more ammunition, right? So I think
- 6:06Speaker 1: it was a crucial error to have his trial severed.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'd want my shit going concurrently with Lori Vallow's. That
- 6:13Speaker 1: way the state doesn't have any kind of advantage over me.
- 6:16Speaker 1: During the trial, Melanie Gibb, a formerly devoted family friend,
- 6:20Speaker 1: reprised her prior testimony from Vallow's April 2023 trial, discussing
- 6:25Speaker 1: details about the killer's bizarre post-Mormon belief system and how
- 6:29Speaker 1: those beliefs became a real-world nightmare for the victims.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Oh, please.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Melanie Gibb, Melanie Pawlowski, Zulema Pastanis, they were up to
- 6:38Speaker 1: this shit in their eyeballs. And the fact that they
- 6:41Speaker 1: were able to avoid any kind of charge here tells
- 6:44Speaker 1: you that they were cooperating and helping the government. Because
- 6:48Speaker 1: if not, they all would have been charged with something.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Because there's no way all of these adults are around
- 6:53Speaker 1: talking about light, dark, zombies, this, that, the other thing,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and nobody's the wiser, what's going on, or what's being planned. Sorry,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I don't buy that. Vallow and Daybell met at a
- 7:03Speaker 1: doomsday conference in 2018. There, they came to believe that
- 7:07Speaker 1: they had been married in a past life. Other non-doctrine beliefs,
- 7:12Speaker 1: atypical to their Mormon upbringing, came to be shared between
- 7:15Speaker 1: the lovestruck murderers, including the idea that people emit energies
- 7:19Speaker 1: that can be categorized as light and dark.
- 7:22Speaker 2: She told me the.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Day before I arrived that he became dark, Gibbs said,
- 7:26Speaker 1: testifying about the novel religious beliefs in which Daybell was
- 7:30Speaker 1: the arbiter of who was irreparably possessed by a certain
- 7:34Speaker 1: and decidedly novel form of evil. Let's be very clear.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't let Chad Daybell pair my socks in the morning.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Never mind give me spiritual advice. I'd rather get spiritual
- 7:44Speaker 1: advice from the leader of the Taliban. And the only
- 7:47Speaker 1: thing that Chad Daybell should ever be the arbiter of
- 7:50Speaker 1: is the arbiter of the Stunads. In this belief structure,
- 7:54Speaker 1: oddly named spirits latch onto human bodies. In time, those
- 7:58Speaker 1: unfortunate human beings are considered to have become dark. And
- 8:02Speaker 1: if the dark ones couldn't be cast out, the possessed
- 8:04Speaker 1: person would become a zombie. You want zombies? Come to
- 8:08Speaker 1: Las Vegas. I'll take you down the Boulder Highway and
- 8:11Speaker 1: you'll see all the zombies you want. I mean, they're
- 8:13Speaker 1: fentanyl zombies, but still, if you're looking for zombies, I
- 8:17Speaker 1: got a whole bunch of them for you. But guess what?
- 8:20Speaker 1: There were no zombies in Chad Daybell's world. All of that,
- 8:23Speaker 1: about as made up as the show Walking Dead. By
- 8:26Speaker 1: the fall of 2019, prosecutors argued, the couple came to
- 8:30Speaker 1: think of JJ Vallow, Tylee Ryan, and Tammy Daybell as
- 8:33Speaker 1: unreachable zombies. They were considered dark, translated beings, Gibb testified. Now,
- 8:38Speaker 1: imagine you're sitting around with your friends, and they start
- 8:41Speaker 1: talking about people who are dark, translated beings, you're just
- 8:45Speaker 1: going to sit there and be like, oh, that's cool, bro.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Unless we're sitting around eating mushrooms and smoking toad venom,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I don't want to hear anything like that. I mean,
- 8:52Speaker 1: if we're on a cool-ass acid trip or something, all right,
- 8:54Speaker 1: maybe I'll listen to you about your translated beings. But
- 8:57Speaker 1: under normal circumstances, anybody talking this kind of weird shit
- 9:01Speaker 1: should probably get slapped in the grill. After a 25-day-long trial,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the defense filed a perfunctory motion for acquittal. The resulting
- 9:09Speaker 1: hearing brought up an oddity. a deficiency in the charging document,
- 9:13Speaker 1: an incorrect date range for when the murder of JJ occurred,
- 9:16Speaker 1: that only the judge himself seemed to notice. The defense
- 9:19Speaker 1: made pains to suggest allowing the wrong dates to stand
- 9:22Speaker 1: throughout the process was part of their plan to have
- 9:25Speaker 1: one murder count dismissed. Now, remember when I told you
- 9:29Speaker 1: about loopholes and technicalities? This is exactly what I'm talking about.
- 9:33Speaker 1: If you give them anything, As far as the defense goes,
- 9:37Speaker 1: they will utilize it, they will maneuver, and they'll attempt
- 9:40Speaker 1: to use that as a life preserver to get their
- 9:42Speaker 1: client off. That's why it's so important that the prosecution
- 9:46Speaker 1: is on their game. The defense made pains to suggest
- 9:48Speaker 1: allowing the wrong dates to stand throughout the process was
- 9:51Speaker 1: part of their plan to have one murder count dismissed.
- 9:54Speaker 1: The state pushed back on this request. The court, however,
- 9:57Speaker 1: chalked it up simply to a clerical error. Obviously a
- 10:00Speaker 1: clerical error, okay? It was obvious that it's a clerical error,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and the attempt, while I understand what Pryor's up to,
- 10:08Speaker 1: there was no way that it was going to hit
- 10:10Speaker 1: the mark. There was no way that the judge was
- 10:13Speaker 1: going to acquiesce to this, nod his head, and be like, oh,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you know what? I think you got a point there, Mr. Pryor.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case. The
- 10:22Speaker 1: sentencing phase of the trial begins just after 3 p.m.
- 10:25Speaker 2: On Thursday.
- 10:27Speaker 1: As in the guilt or innocence phase, 7th District Judge
- 10:30Speaker 1: Stephen Boyce will preside over the proceedings that will determine
- 10:33Speaker 1: how Daybell spends his remaining time on Earth. If the
- 10:37Speaker 1: state gets its way, that time will be spent as
- 10:40Speaker 1: the 9th inmate on Idaho's death row. Well, we could
- 10:43Speaker 1: save them the time and the effort. And you all
- 10:46Speaker 1: know how that's possible, right? Helicopters, volcanoes. If anybody deserves it,
- 10:51Speaker 1: it's Chad Daybell, especially now that he's guilty. There's no more, oh, allegedly.
- 10:55Speaker 1: There's no more, oh, he might have done it. Oh,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he might have been involved. This man's a child murderer.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He murdered his wife. And now he deserves everything that's
- 11:04Speaker 1: coming his way. All right, folks, that's going to do
- 11:07Speaker 1: it for this one. All of the information that goes
- 11:09Speaker 1: with this episode can be found in the description box.
- 11:13Speaker 1: What's up, everyone? And welcome back to the program. As
- 11:17Speaker 1: the Chad Daybell trial continues to move along, I remain
- 11:21Speaker 1: as convinced now as I was in the beginning that
- 11:24Speaker 1: he's going to be found guilty. There has been nothing
- 11:26Speaker 1: presented at this trial from his team or anyone involved
- 11:31Speaker 1: that would lead me to believe that Chad Daybell is
- 11:33Speaker 1: getting railroaded and that Lori Vallow is the one. who
- 11:37Speaker 1: came up with this whole entire plan and put it
- 11:39Speaker 1: into motion on her own. Of course, that's the strategy
- 11:42Speaker 1: that Pryor is attempting to use here, because he knows
- 11:46Speaker 1: that there's no other way out for Chad Daybell. But
- 11:50Speaker 1: even using this strategy of trying to lay all the
- 11:52Speaker 1: blame at Lori Vallow's feet isn't working out for him
- 11:56Speaker 1: so well, especially considering Chad Daybell's own people thought that
- 12:01Speaker 1: shit was weird, including Chad Daybell's parents. And if you
- 12:04Speaker 1: ever get to a point in your life where even
- 12:06Speaker 1: your own parents think what you're up to is straight
- 12:09Speaker 1: up batshit crazy and weird, probably a point in time
- 12:13Speaker 1: where you should reevaluate what you have going on. Because
- 12:16Speaker 1: more times than not, the people who care about you,
- 12:19Speaker 1: they want to see you do good. They don't want
- 12:21Speaker 1: to see you running around, talking bullshit, acting like a moron.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And that's exactly what Chad Daybell was doing. So today
- 12:28Speaker 1: we have an article from the U.S. Sun and the headline,
- 12:31Speaker 1: Chilling Chad. Convicted killer Lori Vallow told husband Chad Daybell's
- 12:36Speaker 1: mom her daughter was dead months before arrest for kids murders.
- 12:41Speaker 1: This article was authored by Cheyenne R.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Ubiera.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Shocking court testimony has revealed a chilling conversation convicted killer
- 12:50Speaker 1: Lori Vallow Daybell had with her mother-in-law about her daughter's
- 12:54Speaker 1: death months before being arrested. And they were giving off
- 12:57Speaker 1: all kinds of tells. They were telling people they had
- 13:00Speaker 1: no kids. They weren't getting an apartment that was kid-friendly,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you know, the whole thing. And everything that they did
- 13:08Speaker 1: leading up to their arrest pointed in the direction of
- 13:11Speaker 1: them being guilty.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So you give.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Probable cause to the authorities right off the jump, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: then from there, they just build their case. And it
- 13:19Speaker 1: wasn't very difficult for them to do that here once
- 13:22Speaker 1: they had all their ducks in a row, once they
- 13:24Speaker 1: understood exactly what they were dealing with, and that Lori
- 13:27Speaker 1: Vallow and Chad Daybell were disgusting animals. It didn't take
- 13:30Speaker 1: them long. But the problem was they couldn't locate those kids, right?
- 13:35Speaker 1: They didn't know if the kids were with Melanie. They
- 13:37Speaker 1: didn't know if the kids were with insert person here.
- 13:41Speaker 1: So until they figured out what was what, they were
- 13:43Speaker 1: kind of stuck in neutral. But once things got rolling,
- 13:47Speaker 1: there was no doubt that Chad Daybell and disgusting-ass Scafusa
- 13:51Speaker 1: Lori Vallow were guilty of killing these kids. She was
- 13:55Speaker 1: convicted last year of the murders of her two children,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Tylee Ryan and J.J.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Vallow.
- 13:59Speaker 1: While her Doomsday author husband, Chad Daybell, is currently on
- 14:02Speaker 1: trial for his alleged role in their deaths and that
- 14:05Speaker 1: of his previous wife, Tammy. Sheila Daybell said she was
- 14:08Speaker 1: surprised to meet Lori Vallow about a month after her
- 14:12Speaker 1: former daughter-in-law, Tammy, had died, but what was more shocking
- 14:16Speaker 1: were the rings on her finger. Can you imagine your
- 14:18Speaker 1: son shows up a month after his wife dies, and
- 14:22Speaker 1: he's with some skafooza, and she's all ringed up, got
- 14:25Speaker 1: a rock on her finger, and everything's just moving along swimmingly?
- 14:29Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, my parents would have a few
- 14:32Speaker 1: things to say to me if I showed up at
- 14:34Speaker 1: this dinner with some rando woman after I was married
- 14:37Speaker 1: to my wife for all these years and she dies
- 14:40Speaker 1: and a month later I'm just deciding that I'm hopping
- 14:42Speaker 1: in bed with somebody else. It would not go over well.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And I'm sure it wouldn't go over well with a
- 14:47Speaker 1: lot of your parents either. And I'll tell you right now,
- 14:50Speaker 1: I could see this scenario unfolding where my mom would
- 14:52Speaker 1: get up, grab me by the ear, and drag me outside.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And for those of you who know me in real
- 14:57Speaker 1: life and know my family, you know I'm not playing
- 14:59Speaker 1: around when I say that. Moms wouldn't be playing with
- 15:01Speaker 1: some shit like this. And furthermore, if you can't even
- 15:04Speaker 1: convince your parents that things are on the up and up,
- 15:07Speaker 1: how do you think you're going to convince the rest
- 15:08Speaker 1: of us? Furthermore, how do you think you're going to
- 15:11Speaker 1: convince the authorities? We noticed that they had these rings
- 15:14Speaker 1: on and my husband said, are you engaged? And they said, no,
- 15:18Speaker 1: we're married. Sheila said in an Idaho courtroom on Thursday,
- 15:21Speaker 1: May 2nd, 2024. She added that her son, Chad Daybell,
- 15:26Speaker 1: didn't tell the family he was getting married again. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: why would he? No right thinking individual, family member or not,
- 15:32Speaker 1: is going to look at what went down and be like,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know what? This is acceptable. This is a good
- 15:36Speaker 1: way to go about things. Now, I understand that everybody
- 15:40Speaker 1: grieves differently, right? And you can't expect everybody to grieve
- 15:44Speaker 1: the same way you would or everybody to suffer the
- 15:47Speaker 1: same way you would. But this is just completely out
- 15:51Speaker 1: of character for anyone who gives a shit about their spouse.
- 15:55Speaker 1: How about the proper amount of respect, man? How about
- 15:58Speaker 1: a mourning period? How about getting your affairs in order,
- 16:01Speaker 1: making sure your kids are solid, making sure your kids
- 16:04Speaker 1: aren't predisposed to some kind of disease that might have
- 16:07Speaker 1: killed your wife? Bro didn't do any of that. Instead,
- 16:11Speaker 1: what did he do? hopped on a plane, and bounced
- 16:13Speaker 1: to Hawaii with this skafooza. Meanwhile, while him and the
- 16:17Speaker 1: skafooza are having their little dance party on the beach,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the rest of the world's out here looking for these kids.
- 16:23Speaker 1: During her meeting with Vallow, Sheila said the mother mentioned
- 16:26Speaker 1: that her previous husband died from a heart attack and
- 16:29Speaker 1: that she had a daughter, Tylee, who also died. And remember,
- 16:32Speaker 1: this is before Tylee even died. You want to talk
- 16:35Speaker 1: about premeditation? You want to talk about a conspiracy?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Here it is.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I mean, how much more do you folks need? I
- 16:43Speaker 1: think that with the first couple of weeks of testimony
- 16:46Speaker 1: that we have heard in this case, it's enough. Now,
- 16:48Speaker 1: there's going to be a ton more, obviously. We still
- 16:50Speaker 1: have a ways to go. But in my opinion, what
- 16:52Speaker 1: we've heard so far is damning and it's enough. And
- 16:57Speaker 1: I think that when all said and done, Chad Daybell
- 17:00Speaker 1: is good and fucked. Vallow, who has been sentenced to
- 17:03Speaker 1: life in prison, never mentioned her son, JJ, who disappeared
- 17:07Speaker 1: along with his sister in September 2019 before being found
- 17:11Speaker 1: in shallow graves. on Chad Daybell's property, said Sheila. So
- 17:15Speaker 1: how did they get there, Chad? Did they just show up?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Somebody dropped them off and decided, hey, you know what?
- 17:21Speaker 1: We're going to sneak onto Chad Daybell's property and we're
- 17:23Speaker 1: going to bury his new wife's kids on his property.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Does that sound like a likely scenario? Or is it
- 17:30Speaker 1: the flip side of that? And it was Chad Daybell,
- 17:32Speaker 1: Lori Vallow, and Alex Cox who thought, for whatever dumbass reason,
- 17:37Speaker 1: that they'd get away with it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And you know what?
- 17:39Speaker 1: We'll just bury these kids right here on Chad's property.
- 17:41Speaker 1: If you were a juror, which scenario would you find
- 17:44Speaker 1: more plausible? While being cross-examined by Chad's defense attorney, John Pryor,
- 17:49Speaker 1: Sheila was asked about her son's personality. Sheila said her
- 17:53Speaker 1: son kept to himself and wasn't a worldly man before
- 17:56Speaker 1: marrying Tammy. However, she described Lori as being friendly and
- 18:00Speaker 1: upbeat when they first met. He's not a worldly man?
- 18:04Speaker 1: What is this, breaking Amish? Well, he might not be
- 18:07Speaker 1: a worldly man, Ma Dukes, but I will tell you what,
- 18:09Speaker 1: he is a Stunad. change behavior. After Sheila gave her testimony,
- 18:14Speaker 1: Chad's sister-in-law, Heather Daybell, took the stand. Heather, who was
- 18:17Speaker 1: married to Chad's brother, Matt, said she saw a shift
- 18:20Speaker 1: in her brother-in-law's behavior nearly a decade ago. Starting around 2015,
- 18:26Speaker 1: Chad supposedly began talking about visions he had had about
- 18:29Speaker 1: the end of days coming to Utah, said Heather. He
- 18:32Speaker 1: often spoke about an earthquake that would cause massive destruction.
- 18:37Speaker 1: At the time, Heather was a member of the Church
- 18:39Speaker 1: of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she had concerned
- 18:43Speaker 1: with Chad's views. Because in the belief system I had
- 18:46Speaker 1: at the time in the LDS Church, some average person
- 18:49Speaker 1: doesn't get information like that to share with others, Heather
- 18:52Speaker 1: said when asked why she was worried. Breaking news, nobody
- 18:56Speaker 1: gets information like that. There's no angel showing up telling
- 19:00Speaker 1: anybody shit. You know, all these miracles that allegedly happened,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and none of them caught on video? Pretty interesting, huh?
- 19:07Speaker 1: That now that we can capture things on video, none
- 19:09Speaker 1: of these miracles ever happen. It's like Bigfoot, right? All
- 19:12Speaker 1: these people out here talking about, oh, Bigfoot exists. Well,
- 19:15Speaker 1: how come nobody can ever get a clearer picture of Bigfoot?
- 19:18Speaker 1: But somehow, everybody wants to run around talking about how
- 19:21Speaker 1: Bigfoot is real. And that's the same category I put
- 19:24Speaker 1: people in who are talking about seeing angels or anything else.
- 19:27Speaker 1: We have a prophet who would let us know if
- 19:29Speaker 1: we needed to prepare for something like that.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, who?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Who's the prophet that's gonna let you know that you
- 19:35Speaker 1: need to prepare? There's no prophet out here. What's Miss
- 19:38Speaker 1: Cleo showing up and telling you about the future? Whenever
- 19:41Speaker 1: Heather tried to confront Chad on his beliefs, she said
- 19:44Speaker 1: he wouldn't respond with anything more than a nod. Heather
- 19:47Speaker 1: and Matt lived in Rexburg, Idaho, and Chad... spoke about
- 19:50Speaker 1: moving closer to them, but Heather tried to get her
- 19:53Speaker 1: husband to stop him. She told the jury that she
- 19:56Speaker 1: had a conversation with Chad, telling him they wouldn't appreciate
- 19:59Speaker 1: him living near them, so he wouldn't want to be
- 20:01Speaker 1: part of the neighborhood or their church ward. Chad would
- 20:05Speaker 1: end up moving about a half mile from Heather's home,
- 20:08Speaker 1: she said, When she learned of Tammy's death in October 2019,
- 20:12Speaker 1: Heather testified that Chad wanted to have her funeral within
- 20:16Speaker 1: two days. At the time, Heather and Matt were out
- 20:19Speaker 1: of state and asked Chad if he could push the
- 20:22Speaker 1: services back. However, Heather said Chad refused their wishes and
- 20:26Speaker 1: wanted to just get it done. When she asked Chad
- 20:29Speaker 1: how Tammy died, Heather testified that his responses felt scripted
- 20:33Speaker 1: and during the funeral, which she and Matt attended, Chad
- 20:36Speaker 1: appeared to turn his grief on and off when he wanted.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Rush of emotion. Colby Ryan, 28, the only surviving son
- 20:43Speaker 1: of Lori Vallow, shared that he and his wife are
- 20:46Speaker 1: having their third child. His mother has already been convicted
- 20:50Speaker 1: of murdering Tylee and JJ, but Chad Daybell's trial is
- 20:53Speaker 1: still ongoing and is expected to last another three to
- 20:56Speaker 1: five weeks. In the meantime, Colby, an insurance broker, revealed
- 21:01Speaker 1: his happy news on YouTube. He shared a video that
- 21:04Speaker 1: showed the moment he and his wife Kelsey found out
- 21:06Speaker 1: that they were having a baby boy. Colby said he
- 21:09Speaker 1: planned on doing a different video, but he chose to
- 21:12Speaker 1: capture the raw emotion from the moment. The couple immediately
- 21:15Speaker 1: began to cry after receiving the news. I always wanted
- 21:19Speaker 1: a boy. I always loved our girls. I'm totally a
- 21:22Speaker 1: girl dad. But now I get this opportunity that almost
- 21:25Speaker 1: feels like a new opportunity to be a dad, he said.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I feel more blessed than I could ever tell you guys.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And good for Colby Ryan and his wife. Hopefully they
- 21:34Speaker 1: can find a little bit of happiness within all of
- 21:36Speaker 1: this madness. And as much as I've talked about how
- 21:40Speaker 1: I find it weird and out of pocket for his
- 21:44Speaker 1: little sister to be giving him money, that doesn't mean
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't have any sympathy or compassion for what bro
- 21:49Speaker 1: went through. Lost his little sister, his little brother, mom's
- 21:53Speaker 1: in prison forever. So certainly not something that is enjoyable
- 21:57Speaker 1: and certainly something I have a lot of compassion for.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I just find the whole relationship with Tylee a bit weird,
- 22:04Speaker 1: that's all. But I have to tell myself that everybody
- 22:06Speaker 1: has different ways of having relationships with their siblings or
- 22:10Speaker 1: their friends or whatever, and I can't use my own
- 22:13Speaker 1: worldview to paint a picture for everybody else. So I
- 22:17Speaker 1: try to remain cognizant of that, but I'd be a
- 22:19Speaker 1: liar if I told you I didn't find it odd.
- 22:22Speaker 1: There's just no way in the world, unless I was
- 22:25Speaker 1: literally about to die or something, that I'd be asking
- 22:27Speaker 1: my little sister for any money. But in the grand
- 22:30Speaker 1: scheme of things, that's just a little small part of
- 22:32Speaker 1: this story, right? And really, it doesn't even mean much.
- 22:35Speaker 1: What really matters is that Lori Vallow, Chad Daybell, both
- 22:40Speaker 1: get punished for what they did. And in my opinion,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I think Chad Daybell should get the maximum sentence. And
- 22:46Speaker 1: in this case, the maximum sentence is a trip to
- 22:49Speaker 1: the hangman's noose. All of the information that goes with
- 22:54Speaker 1: this episode can be found in the description box. Everyone
- 22:57Speaker 1: and welcome back to the program. In this episode, we're
- 23:01Speaker 1: going to talk about a newly unearthed video of Chad
- 23:06Speaker 1: Daybell giving a very, very bizarre speech at one of
- 23:10Speaker 1: those conferences they all went to called Preparing a People.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And you can tell just from this speech that this
- 23:18Speaker 1: dude is absolutely selling that snake oil. But people suck
- 23:23Speaker 1: it up. There's a lot of people out there that
- 23:26Speaker 1: are willing to believe a lot of crazy, wacky-ass shit.
- 23:31Speaker 1: And every time we have a situation such as this,
- 23:34Speaker 1: it just goes to show us how crazy and how
- 23:38Speaker 1: easily led some people in our society are. Today's article
- 23:42Speaker 1: is from thedailymail.com and the headline, A Warning of What's Coming.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Chad Daybell's bizarre apocalypse speech noting Kim Jong-un and natural
- 23:53Speaker 1: disasters as proof of impending doom resurfaces as his wife
- 23:57Speaker 1: Lori Vallow stands trial for murdering her children. This article
- 24:02Speaker 1: was authored by Will Potter. There's always been natural disasters
- 24:07Speaker 1: and there's always been crazy people on the world stage
- 24:11Speaker 1: like Kim Jong-un. That's not proof that any apocalypse is coming.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It's not any proof of anything whatsoever. Bizarre footage of
- 24:20Speaker 1: suspected murderer and doomsday cult fantasist Chad Daybell speaking at
- 24:25Speaker 1: a Utah religious conference in 2017 has been unearthed as
- 24:29Speaker 1: his wife Lori Vallow stands trial for murdering her two children. Daybell,
- 24:35Speaker 1: who is also facing murderer charges, pointed to North Korean
- 24:38Speaker 1: dictator Kim Jong-un, along with recent natural disasters, including earthquakes
- 24:43Speaker 1: and floods, as signs of an impending apocalypse. or maybe
- 24:47Speaker 1: just the world doing what the world does. You know, earthquakes, floods, weather.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's what happens. And as far as Kim Jong-un goes,
- 24:56Speaker 1: that's who you point to? I mean, that's the best
- 24:59Speaker 1: fantasy boogeyman you can come up with? You couldn't give
- 25:02Speaker 1: us somebody else? There's no hidden antichrist somewhere or something
- 25:05Speaker 1: like that? Kind of disappointed in Chad Dumbbell. The religious zealot,
- 25:10Speaker 1: who claims to have several near-death experiences that gave him
- 25:14Speaker 1: powers of prediction... took the stage at a prepping a
- 25:17Speaker 1: people event where he warned of what is coming. Well,
- 25:21Speaker 1: it's unfortunate that his perception and his power of prediction
- 25:27Speaker 1: couldn't help him predict that his bitch ass would be
- 25:29Speaker 1: sitting in a jail cell. You want a prediction, Chad Daybell?
- 25:33Speaker 1: And this isn't coming from the angel Maroney either. My
- 25:36Speaker 1: prediction is your bitch ass is getting the death penalty.
- 25:41Speaker 1: It seems as though I have been waiting for 20
- 25:43Speaker 1: years for something to happen, he said. I write all
- 25:46Speaker 1: these novels and people are like, when's it going to start?
- 25:50Speaker 1: After rattling off a series of recent events as symptoms
- 25:54Speaker 1: of the doomsday scenario, the former gravedigger suggested the end
- 25:58Speaker 1: was near. We can prepare ourselves to survive the trials
- 26:02Speaker 1: that are coming, he added. You better worry about surviving
- 26:05Speaker 1: your day to day once you get to prison, buddy.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Never mind the end of the world. The apocalypse is
- 26:10Speaker 1: coming for you and it's coming very soon. Daybell is
- 26:15Speaker 1: set to face murder charges over the deaths of Vallow's children, JJ, 7,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and Tylee, 16. The children's badly decomposed remains were found
- 26:24Speaker 1: buried in the backyard of his Idaho property in June
- 26:28Speaker 1: of 2020. And obviously, he has no good reason why
- 26:32Speaker 1: those children's bodies would be found on his property. Now,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm wondering what he's going to say during his trial.
- 26:38Speaker 1: My guess is he's going to try and blame it
- 26:40Speaker 1: all on Lori Vallow and on Alex Cox. That's my guess.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Chad Daybell doesn't strike me as the type to take
- 26:48Speaker 1: responsibility for anything. Anyone who gets out here and tells
- 26:51Speaker 1: you they're a prophet or they're talking to God, you
- 26:55Speaker 1: gotta know that that person who is telling you that
- 26:58Speaker 1: is an absolute bullshit artist. He allegedly carried out the
- 27:04Speaker 1: killings as part of an outlandish theory that the second
- 27:07Speaker 1: coming of Christ was imminent, during which only 144,000 chosen
- 27:10Speaker 1: souls would survive. Both he and Vallow allegedly began a
- 27:17Speaker 1: campaign of murder, which also included their former spouses, after
- 27:21Speaker 1: becoming obsessed with the idea of light and dark souls.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Daybell claimed to have established a bizarre rating system with
- 27:31Speaker 1: those seen as having a dark soul considered to have
- 27:34Speaker 1: become zombies. Two years before the children were killed in 2019,
- 27:40Speaker 1: Daybell gave a wavering speech at a religious conference where
- 27:44Speaker 1: he muddled through a bizarre PowerPoint presentation that warned of
- 27:48Speaker 1: the end of days. No, there's no doubt. He was
- 27:51Speaker 1: on point, folks, okay? He was on point about the
- 27:54Speaker 1: end of days. The thing is, though, what he didn't
- 27:57Speaker 1: tell us was that he was talking about himself. Because
- 28:00Speaker 1: the end of his days, they're certainly on the horizon.
- 28:04Speaker 1: First bringing up an image of a recently flooded religious
- 28:07Speaker 1: temple in Texas, Daybell said, Doesn't it really feel like,
- 28:11Speaker 1: in the last two or three weeks, the eclipse is
- 28:14Speaker 1: a sign of a warning of what's coming?
- 28:16Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 28:18Speaker 1: An eclipse happens because that's the way it works, okay?
- 28:21Speaker 1: There's no kind of mythical element to it. There's no
- 28:25Speaker 1: red comet streaking across the sky, warning us of the
- 28:29Speaker 1: doom to come. All we have here are a bunch
- 28:32Speaker 1: of lies and a man who plays on people who
- 28:35Speaker 1: are weak-minded and easily manipulated. Listing off several other reasons
- 28:41Speaker 1: the apocalypse may be looming, the doomsday author made a
- 28:44Speaker 1: sharp segue to North Korea. They're going a little nuts
- 28:48Speaker 1: right now, he said. Kim Jong-un seems to be intent
- 28:51Speaker 1: on causing havoc in the world. No question about it
- 28:54Speaker 1: with him. Oh, so Chad Daybell is a great and
- 28:57Speaker 1: sharp geopolitical mind as well, huh? The absolute epitome of
- 29:02Speaker 1: a renaissance man over here. Even as we speak, Hurricane
- 29:05Speaker 1: Irma is on its way to Florida, he continued. The
- 29:08Speaker 1: earthquake in Mexico, but I didn't get it on the
- 29:11Speaker 1: PowerPoint as it just happened. The fires in California and Montana,
- 29:16Speaker 1: it just feels like times are starting to begin. Or maybe,
- 29:20Speaker 1: just maybe, some jerk-off was playing with matches and set
- 29:24Speaker 1: the forest on fire. Perhaps that's what happened. Daybell, who
- 29:28Speaker 1: ultimately predicted the end times would occur in July of 2020...
- 29:32Speaker 1: And during the speech, he brought up an image of
- 29:35Speaker 1: Woody Harrelson from the disaster movie 2020. Here's one of
- 29:40Speaker 1: my new favorite characters, he said, because this is how
- 29:43Speaker 1: people think I act. That's honestly how my relatives think
- 29:47Speaker 1: I acted the last five years.
- 29:50Speaker 2: But he was right, he added. No, he wasn't, okay?
- 29:53Speaker 1: If he was right, you'd be sitting in your little
- 29:56Speaker 1: cabin up there in Rexburg leading your 144,000 people into
- 30:01Speaker 1: whatever world you were talking about instead of sitting in
- 30:05Speaker 1: your jail cell waiting for the state of Idaho to
- 30:07Speaker 1: pass the death penalty on you. Daybell, who often spoke
- 30:12Speaker 1: of readying people for outlandish theories of the end of civilization,
- 30:17Speaker 1: concluded his speech by saying, we can prepare ourselves to
- 30:20Speaker 1: survive through these trials that are coming. And that's the
- 30:23Speaker 1: whole reason you're here right now. I know that the
- 30:26Speaker 1: spirit has guided you and prompted you that you have
- 30:30Speaker 1: a role to play. It might be by baby steps,
- 30:32Speaker 1: but you're going to get there eventually. Seems to me
- 30:36Speaker 1: that Chad Daybell used this religion as a vehicle for
- 30:39Speaker 1: him to get to people who are easily manipulated so
- 30:43Speaker 1: that he could larp out his fantasies of being a prophet.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Daybell's murder trial is set to commence at a later
- 30:50Speaker 1: date after a judge separated his case from Vallow's, but
- 30:55Speaker 1: He has been a central figure in his wife's hearing
- 30:57Speaker 1: this month. On the fourth day of the harrowing trial,
- 31:01Speaker 1: it emerged that Daybell delivered a telling blessing to thank
- 31:04Speaker 1: Vallow's brother, Alex Cox, after he allegedly helped murder her
- 31:08Speaker 1: two children. Alex Cox, who also shot dead Vallow's former husband,
- 31:13Speaker 1: was told he had assisted us in ways that cannot
- 31:16Speaker 1: be repaid. Jurors were played a 15-minute recording of the
- 31:21Speaker 1: patriarchal blessing, in which Daybell falsely claimed to be a
- 31:25Speaker 1: member of the priesthood. He described Cox as a great
- 31:28Speaker 1: warrior who was selected to help protect your sister. You
- 31:31Speaker 1: have already assisted us in ways that can never be repaid,
- 31:35Speaker 1: but you will continue to do so as you move
- 31:37Speaker 1: forward in this life, Daybell said, and we know what
- 31:40Speaker 1: he meant by that. Getting rid of those kids, and
- 31:43Speaker 1: I stand by that. I truly believe that it was
- 31:45Speaker 1: Alex Cox who carried this out at the command of
- 31:49Speaker 1: Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell. Now, it's up for debate
- 31:53Speaker 1: who was there at the time that these kids were killed,
- 31:56Speaker 1: but for me there is zero doubt that they were
- 31:59Speaker 1: all part of a conspiracy, a premeditated conspiracy, to kill
- 32:03Speaker 1: those children, to kill Tammy Daybell, and to kill Charles Vallow.
- 32:09Speaker 1: In another piece of damning testimony, Vallow's former best friend
- 32:12Speaker 1: Melanie Gibb took to the stand while a 15-minute recording
- 32:16Speaker 1: of a phone conversation between the two and Daybell was
- 32:19Speaker 1: played to the court. During the call, Vallow hauntingly insists
- 32:23Speaker 1: that her son JJ was safe and happy. Months after,
- 32:26Speaker 1: she allegedly partnered with her doomsday cult husband to murder
- 32:30Speaker 1: the boy. Gibb claimed that Daybell previously called her and
- 32:34Speaker 1: instructed her not to talk to police if they contacted
- 32:37Speaker 1: her about the missing children. Vallow also makes the chilling
- 32:42Speaker 1: claim that she could reveal her son's whereabouts, but that
- 32:46Speaker 1: would not be good for JJ. Several months later, the
- 32:49Speaker 1: little boy's badly decomposed body was found buried near his
- 32:53Speaker 1: sister's remains in Daybell's backyard. So explain it away, Lori.
- 32:57Speaker 1: We're all waiting for you to explain to us how
- 33:00Speaker 1: this happened. I thought JJ was safe. I thought he
- 33:04Speaker 1: was somewhere where he was happy and there was nothing
- 33:06Speaker 1: wrong with him. Meanwhile, this little boy and his sister
- 33:10Speaker 1: were buried in the backyard on the property where you
- 33:14Speaker 1: put your head down on your pillow every night to
- 33:16Speaker 1: go to sleep. It doesn't get more vile than that, folks.
- 33:20Speaker 1: And if there's any justice left in this world, then
- 33:23Speaker 1: Lori Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell will both be found
- 33:27Speaker 1: guilty for these crimes. And Lori Vallow, she'll spend the
- 33:30Speaker 1: rest of her life in prison. Meanwhile, Chad Daybell, well,
- 33:34Speaker 1: if he's convicted, he certainly has a date with the executioner.
- 33:39Speaker 1: All right, folks, that's going to do it for this one.
- 33:42Speaker 1: All of the information that goes with the episode can
- 33:44Speaker 1: be found in the description box. What's up, everyone, and
- 33:49Speaker 1: welcome back to the program. According to a new article
- 33:54Speaker 1: in the Daily Mail, there are people in Rexburg, Idaho,
- 33:59Speaker 1: who still believe that Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow are innocent,
- 34:03Speaker 1: and some of those people are in Chad Daybell's family. Now, look,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I get it, right? I want to believe that my
- 34:10Speaker 1: family members... are.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Innocent as well.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I want to believe that the people I know, the
- 34:15Speaker 1: people I hang out with, aren't capable of doing something
- 34:18Speaker 1: like this. However, when the facts are presented to you
- 34:22Speaker 1: in the way that they have been presented to us
- 34:25Speaker 1: in the past two weeks, can look at Chad Daybell
- 34:28Speaker 1: and Lori Vallow and the information we have received and
- 34:31Speaker 1: say to themselves, you know what? I think Chad Daybell
- 34:34Speaker 1: is innocent and Lori Vallow, she's innocent too. I have
- 34:38Speaker 1: no idea if how anyone can arrive at that destination.
- 34:43Speaker 1: But according to this article, that's where some people are
- 34:46Speaker 1: camping out. So let's dive into this article from the
- 34:50Speaker 1: Daily Mail and let's see what Lewis Pennock has for us. Headline,
- 34:56Speaker 1: inside the Mormon city at the center of Lori Vallow's
- 35:00Speaker 1: doomsday cult. Rexburg is where her murdered children's mutilated bodies
- 35:04Speaker 1: were found. Yet Chad Daybell's family still live next to
- 35:08Speaker 1: the graves and some claim he's innocent. Now that's grisly.
- 35:12Speaker 1: How many of you out there would be staying on
- 35:14Speaker 1: this property, your dad's property, if these were the allegations
- 35:18Speaker 1: that were out there, and not just allegations, but actual
- 35:22Speaker 1: bodies and the remains of these children were found on
- 35:24Speaker 1: the property as well? Would you be staying there, sleeping
- 35:27Speaker 1: there every night? I know I wouldn't be. I'd be
- 35:30Speaker 1: as far away from this property as possible. For years,
- 35:34Speaker 1: the small Mormon enclave of Rexburg in East Idaho has
- 35:38Speaker 1: proudly dubbed itself America's Family Community, a slogan that's emblazoned
- 35:44Speaker 1: on municipal buildings around the city as a symbol of
- 35:47Speaker 1: its fierce embrace of traditional values. But in 2019, that
- 35:52Speaker 1: reputation was upended and the little-known community gained national attention
- 35:58Speaker 1: for another reason, the epicenter of a murderous cult which
- 36:02Speaker 1: shocked America. And that is an understatement. Whenever you have
- 36:06Speaker 1: all of the elements to a story that are present
- 36:08Speaker 1: in the Lori Vallow case, well, you're going to have
- 36:11Speaker 1: a feeding frenzy when it comes to the media and
- 36:15Speaker 1: the interest of the public. Lori Vallow, a blonde beauty
- 36:19Speaker 1: pageant winning mom from California, allegedly murdered her two children,
- 36:24Speaker 1: Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua Jackson, J.J. Vallow, 7. Vallow
- 36:30Speaker 1: and her husband, doomsday obsessed author Chad Daybell, were convinced
- 36:34Speaker 1: the children were zombies and they were possessed by evil spirits.
- 36:39Speaker 1: And I think one of the unsettling questions that has
- 36:41Speaker 1: to be asked is how many other people in this
- 36:44Speaker 1: community or people who were hanging out with Chad Daybell
- 36:48Speaker 1: and Lori Vallow have these same.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Kinds of beliefs.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Their mutilated bodies, Tylee's burned beyond recognition, and JJ's bound
- 36:57Speaker 1: in trash bags and duct tape, were buried in shallow
- 37:00Speaker 1: graves at Daybell's yard. on the fringes of Rexburg. Valo,
- 37:05Speaker 1: whose murder trial began on April 10th, and Daybell told
- 37:08Speaker 1: followers that they were chosen by God to lead 144,000
- 37:11Speaker 1: humans through the second coming of Jesus Christ. And Rexburg
- 37:17Speaker 1: was the sanctuary where warriors and soldiers would gather. And
- 37:22Speaker 1: during next week's game of Dungeons and Dragons, is this
- 37:25Speaker 1: guy for real? I got your 144,000 people right here, pal.
- 37:30Speaker 1: The fallout in Rexburg is a town desperate to shake
- 37:33Speaker 1: off its newfound infamy, but still gripped by the troubling
- 37:37Speaker 1: case whose central figures were once friends, neighbors, and fellow worshipers.
- 37:43Speaker 1: City leaders talk publicly about the desire to find justice
- 37:46Speaker 1: and move on, while locals watch screenings of Vallow's trial
- 37:50Speaker 1: in the Fremont County Courthouse and gossip over the chilling
- 37:54Speaker 1: but captivating testimony. Look, I don't even think it's captivating
- 37:57Speaker 1: at this point. I cannot wait for all of this
- 38:00Speaker 1: testimony to be over and done with. Of all of
- 38:03Speaker 1: the things we've covered here, this has been one of
- 38:05Speaker 1: the most grisly, sustained testimonies recounting what happened in such
- 38:11Speaker 1: a graphic manner that I think we have ever covered.
- 38:15Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what, whenever there's children involved, it
- 38:18Speaker 1: adds that other layer, right? That other layer of vileness,
- 38:22Speaker 1: that other layer of anger. And talking about Daybell and
- 38:27Speaker 1: Lori Vallow, I don't know how anybody can't feel that,
- 38:31Speaker 1: that rage, that anger. But there's some people in this
- 38:34Speaker 1: community who still think that these two are innocent of
- 38:38Speaker 1: these crimes. Behind closed doors, there is soul-searching about Vallow
- 38:44Speaker 1: and Daybell's manipulation of the Mormon faith, which an estimated
- 38:48Speaker 1: 95% of the town's 33,500 people subscribe to. And what's
- 38:54Speaker 1: perhaps more jarring, it's said there is still a small,
- 38:57Speaker 1: underground sect who refuse to believe Daybell, once viewed as
- 39:01Speaker 1: nothing more than a weird but faithful follower of Christ,
- 39:05Speaker 1: is guilty. Peggy Jepsen, a local who helps maintain a
- 39:09Speaker 1: memorial wall for JJ and Tylee beside the Daybell property, said,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I hope there isn't skepticism anymore.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I hope not.
- 39:17Speaker 1: But I wonder because even now there are people that
- 39:20Speaker 1: just don't want to discuss it, just really choose to
- 39:23Speaker 1: believe that he isn't what he's accused of being. Isn't
- 39:27Speaker 1: cognitive dissonance fun? Jefferson, a grandmother with two adult sons,
- 39:33Speaker 1: lives with her husband in a tidy rural bungalow just
- 39:36Speaker 1: a couple of miles from the Daybell property. Like many
- 39:40Speaker 1: families in Rexburg, their home is decorated with symbols of
- 39:43Speaker 1: their faith. She recalled the heartbreaking morning of June 9th, 2020,
- 39:48Speaker 1: when Tylee and JJ's remains were unearthed in Daybell's backyard. Horrifying, disgusting, disturbing.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Jeppesen said, I cannot believe that someone in our community
- 40:00Speaker 1: that is supposed to be a follower of Jesus Christ
- 40:03Speaker 1: and a faithful believer in God could possibly be any
- 40:06Speaker 1: part of murdering those children. They slaughtered them, allegedly from
- 40:10Speaker 1: what we're hearing. And it's right there. There's proof in
- 40:14Speaker 1: the ground.
- 40:14Speaker 2: She is not wrong.
- 40:15Speaker 1: There is proof right there in the ground, and everything
- 40:18Speaker 1: that the prosecutors have told us so far has been
- 40:21Speaker 1: backed up, at least in my opinion, by very, very
- 40:24Speaker 1: strong testimony by the witnesses that the prosecution has brought forward.
- 40:29Speaker 1: The case gained national attention in December of 2019, six
- 40:34Speaker 1: months before the discovery, when Rexburg Police Department and the
- 40:38Speaker 1: FBI issued an appeal to locate Tylee and JJ, who
- 40:42Speaker 1: had not been seen since September. The appeal hinted their
- 40:45Speaker 1: disappearance was linked to the death of Daybell's wife, Tammy, 49,
- 40:50Speaker 1: in October. Daybell had married Vallow on a beach in
- 40:54Speaker 1: Hawaii just weeks later. The perplexing case was further compounded
- 40:58Speaker 1: by the fact that Vallow's former husband, Charles, was shot
- 41:02Speaker 1: dead by her brother in mysterious circumstances months earlier. Jefferson
- 41:07Speaker 1: would ask people in Rexburg, Tylee and JJ are not
- 41:10Speaker 1: being found, what's going on? Some would put their hands up,
- 41:14Speaker 1: physically put their hands up and say, don't even go
- 41:17Speaker 1: there with me. Chad would never. Chad is the most amazing,
- 41:20Speaker 1: strong individual. He's so faithful in the gospel. There is
- 41:24Speaker 1: no way he is or he would have anything to
- 41:27Speaker 1: do with any of this.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Yeah, OK, sure.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Meanwhile, the evidence is as high as Mount Everest. Another
- 41:34Speaker 1: local who has followed the trial in Madison County Courthouse
- 41:38Speaker 1: said those who remain loyal to Daybell have gone underground,
- 41:41Speaker 1: as they should go live in shame. Anybody who is
- 41:44Speaker 1: supporting Chad Daybell should probably get hit in the face
- 41:47Speaker 1: with a shovel right along with him. Janine Harrop Hansen,
- 41:52Speaker 1: a close friend of JJ's grandparents, who was born and
- 41:55Speaker 1: raised in Rexburg, said, as the story unfolded, no one
- 41:58Speaker 1: could believe what was happening in this small town of Rexburg.
- 42:01Speaker 2: We were all going, what?
- 42:03Speaker 1: We thought the national news in Rexburg, we've got children
- 42:06Speaker 1: missing and their bodies were found in Chad's backyard. This
- 42:09Speaker 1: beautiful young lady was mutilated. I mean, nothing happens like
- 42:14Speaker 1: this in Rexburg, Idaho. It's a place where you felt
- 42:17Speaker 1: safe and secure. Imagine Rexburg, Moscow. Talk about something in
- 42:21Speaker 1: the water up in Idaho lately. Daybell had drawn a
- 42:26Speaker 1: handful of followers to Rexburg after he moved there with
- 42:29Speaker 1: his family in 2004. He lured them with fantastical tales
- 42:34Speaker 1: about near-death experiences which brought visits from God. The author,
- 42:39Speaker 1: who self-published more than 20 books, would test people by
- 42:43Speaker 1: drip-feeding them his warped views. Those who believed him were
- 42:46Speaker 1: sucked in further by increasingly deranged ideas like that J.J.
- 42:51Speaker 1: and Tylee were possessed. How the hell do you get
- 42:54Speaker 1: sucked in by this guy?
- 42:55Speaker 2: Come on!
- 42:57Speaker 1: Dude doesn't have any charisma, he's goofy looking, dresses like
- 43:00Speaker 1: a moron. What exactly is this guy pitching to you
- 43:04Speaker 1: that makes you want to believe what he has to say? Oh,
- 43:07Speaker 1: I had a near-death experience. I had God visit me
- 43:10Speaker 1: after I hit my head. No, Chad, what happened was this.
- 43:13Speaker 1: You hit your head, you got a concussion, now you
- 43:16Speaker 1: have CTE. It has bothered me how many people have
- 43:20Speaker 1: moved here to be near Chad. The rumbling of that
- 43:23Speaker 1: is unreal, Jefferson said. He clearly had a hold on people.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Hansen added, when I'm in conversation with people that I
- 43:30Speaker 1: grew up with, we just go, how did he take
- 43:33Speaker 1: our religion and justify zombies and murdering children?
- 43:37Speaker 2: Oh, that's easy.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Anytime you're using religion as a basis for your nonsense,
- 43:42Speaker 1: you're going to be able to convince some people because
- 43:44Speaker 1: of their zealotry. And a great example of that is
- 43:47Speaker 1: militant Islam. That is exactly what they do. They play
- 43:51Speaker 1: on people's fears, they play on people's faith, and then
- 43:55Speaker 1: they manipulate them to do what they want them to do.
- 43:58Speaker 1: And it's the same premise that was used here by
- 44:01Speaker 1: Chad Daybell. People who knew Chad Daybell in Rexburg, where
- 44:04Speaker 1: he moved in 2014 with his wife of 28 years
- 44:08Speaker 1: and their five children, described him as weird and different.
- 44:12Speaker 1: His circle of friends dwindled as he turned crazy, said
- 44:15Speaker 1: one acquaintance. The acquaintance said he even broke up with
- 44:19Speaker 1: his ex-girlfriend because of her obsession with the case. Daybell, 54,
- 44:24Speaker 1: maintains his innocence despite a mountain of damning evidence, and
- 44:27Speaker 1: he will stand trial for the murders of JJ, Tylee,
- 44:30Speaker 1: and Tammy at a date to be confirmed. He met
- 44:34Speaker 1: Vallow at a Preparing a People conference in Utah in 2018,
- 44:39Speaker 1: and they immediately hit it off. They flirted at Daybell's
- 44:42Speaker 1: stall at the Doomsday Prepper conference as he told her
- 44:45Speaker 1: they'd been married in several previous lives. That would be
- 44:49Speaker 1: a cool-ass documentary. Go to this conference undercover and just
- 44:53Speaker 1: go and experience what all of these jackholes are carrying
- 44:56Speaker 1: on about. Thalo drank the Kool-Aid, and over time, their
- 45:00Speaker 1: beliefs went from deluded to downright evil. They gathered a
- 45:04Speaker 1: small group of followers who Daybell told he had been
- 45:07Speaker 1: visited by the Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Some of their Alakites, who were told they had powers,
- 45:13Speaker 1: moved to Rexburg to be close to him. He would
- 45:16Speaker 1: have been spiritually the highest of anybody. Vallow was his
- 45:20Speaker 1: companion and therefore put her in the same spiritual standing.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Former friend Zulema Pastanis told Vallow's trial. Melanie Gibb, a
- 45:29Speaker 1: former member of Vallow and Daybell's inner circle, said Vallow
- 45:33Speaker 1: felt she was part of the 144,000. She felt that
- 45:37Speaker 1: they were the head leaders of it. Throughout the saga,
- 45:40Speaker 1: Daybell's most loyal backers have been his five adult children.
- 45:44Speaker 1: who spoke out together in 2021 to protest his innocence
- 45:48Speaker 1: and claim he was manipulated by Vallow. Their strongest show
- 45:53Speaker 1: of support has undoubtedly been the choice to remain at
- 45:57Speaker 1: his property after the bodies were found. Daybell's lawyer reportedly
- 46:01Speaker 1: has a lien on the home and it's been rented
- 46:04Speaker 1: back to the family. Can you imagine staying there? Like,
- 46:07Speaker 1: what is wrong with you? And to be an adult
- 46:10Speaker 1: and still try and cover for your dad when you
- 46:12Speaker 1: know that this shit right here happened? That makes you
- 46:16Speaker 1: a vile son of a bitch as well, in my opinion.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Daybell's daughter, Emma Murray, her husband, and their young children
- 46:24Speaker 1: currently occupy the property where Tylee and JJ were buried
- 46:28Speaker 1: in the yard. Today, just yards from the murdered children's
- 46:31Speaker 1: shallow graves, toys and strollers are strewn across the land.
- 46:35Speaker 1: A tree swing is fastened. close to where the family
- 46:38Speaker 1: keep chickens and grow vegetables. On the porch, a large
- 46:41Speaker 1: sign warns off the media. Hansen sees the family from
- 46:45Speaker 1: time to time when she goes to maintain the tributes.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I've tried to talk to them and you know, they
- 46:50Speaker 1: don't want to talk to people. I don't blame them,
- 46:52Speaker 1: she said. The Daybell family have made it quite clear
- 46:55Speaker 1: they don't intend to attend any of Vallow's trial, which
- 46:59Speaker 1: is expected to conclude in mid to late May. And
- 47:04Speaker 1: that's crazy. Chad Daybell's family actually thinks that Lori Vallow
- 47:07Speaker 1: is the one who manipulated him? Now, don't get it twisted.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Lori Vallow is a vile, disgusting beast, and she deserves
- 47:14Speaker 1: her fair share. But it was Chad Daybell and his
- 47:17Speaker 1: LARP that really got the ball rolling here. Jeppesen said
- 47:22Speaker 1: she has interpreted them to be standoffish, not wanting much
- 47:25Speaker 1: to do with the community. And maybe, rightfully so, you know,
- 47:29Speaker 1: perhaps they feel villainized or something that their father did this.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Daybell's son Garth, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his father,
- 47:37Speaker 1: poor guy, teaches at a school in the area. One
- 47:40Speaker 1: parent said their children has found him to be a
- 47:42Speaker 1: good teacher with fun classes. Unsurprisingly, the case involving his
- 47:46Speaker 1: father has never been mentioned. Meanwhile, the Daybell name itself
- 47:52Speaker 1: has become a red flag in Rexburg, and his children
- 47:55Speaker 1: have faced abuse and even death threats.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Well, that's not right. Nobody should do that.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Nobody should be threatening anyone's kids because what the father did. Now,
- 48:04Speaker 1: criticism is one thing, but threats or violence, that's a
- 48:08Speaker 1: completely different realm and nobody should ever engage in that.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Rexburg Mayor Jerry Merrill said, I think overall, we're trying
- 48:16Speaker 1: to be understanding of the family and understanding of what
- 48:19Speaker 1: they are going through. And trying to just do what
- 48:22Speaker 1: we can to be helpful to them so that they
- 48:25Speaker 1: can kind of put their lives back together a little
- 48:27Speaker 1: bit too. And not to be too judgmental of them.
- 48:30Speaker 1: That's a good idea. Again, look, I'm only talking about
- 48:33Speaker 1: the family members that are still backing Chad Daybell. And
- 48:36Speaker 1: living on that property, that's straight up gross. I don't
- 48:39Speaker 1: care how you chop it. The memorial and the Daybell
- 48:42Speaker 1: house are among a handful of locations in Rexburg which
- 48:46Speaker 1: have become a magnet for true crime fans. The Daybell
- 48:49Speaker 1: address is listed on a website called Morbid Tourism. A
- 48:53Speaker 1: suburban apartment in Rexburg where Vallow lived when her children
- 48:57Speaker 1: were murdered also attracts thrill seekers. Cops searching for JJ
- 49:01Speaker 1: and Tylee raided the address in November of 2019 and
- 49:06Speaker 1: and found a jarring combination of guns, knives, and children's
- 49:09Speaker 1: toys scattered about the place. A woman who now lives
- 49:14Speaker 1: at the rented home with her young family said she
- 49:17Speaker 1: only learned about its history when someone showed up several
- 49:20Speaker 1: weeks after they moved in and asked if they could
- 49:23Speaker 1: come inside and take pictures. I'm trying to make it
- 49:26Speaker 1: a nice place for my family to live. I don't
- 49:28Speaker 1: really want to be associated with her or that. I
- 49:31Speaker 1: don't like it at all, the woman said, who initially
- 49:34Speaker 1: considered moving out.
- 49:35Speaker 2: I'd have to move out. I couldn't live there. All
- 49:37Speaker 2: the people showing up. Screw that. No way. It's been
- 49:41Speaker 2: a really, really sweet neighborhood to be in.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I did not love finding out about that. I was
- 49:46Speaker 1: actually just blindsided. I felt so sick about it, just
- 49:49Speaker 1: being in Rexburg. The woman's sentiment is one shared by
- 49:53Speaker 1: many in Rexburg, a city sickened by the murders of Tammy, JJ,
- 49:58Speaker 1: and Ty Lee, but determined to move on. Mayor Merrill said,
- 50:02Speaker 1: We haven't loved having Rexburg to be in the spotlight
- 50:05Speaker 1: for this. I think the citizens are ready to have
- 50:08Speaker 1: this done. have the trial over and move on and
- 50:11Speaker 1: not be the center of worldwide attention. Hansen, whose grandfather
- 50:16Speaker 1: homesteaded the land around Rexburg in the 1800s, added, We
- 50:20Speaker 1: will be in Rexburg where this tragedy has happened, but
- 50:23Speaker 1: we will be in Rexburg that has continued to survive
- 50:26Speaker 1: and thrive. And good for the town, right? I mean,
- 50:29Speaker 1: they have to move on at some point. But anybody
- 50:32Speaker 1: who's hiding out in that town, who still believes that
- 50:35Speaker 1: Chad Daybell is innocent, and that Lori Vallow is innocent,
- 50:38Speaker 1: should really give themselves a slap in the face. Because
- 50:41Speaker 1: in my opinion, we're just going through the motions right
- 50:43Speaker 1: now as far as Lori Vallow's trial. I think that
- 50:46Speaker 1: the testimony from the first two weeks is strong enough
- 50:49Speaker 1: to convict her. So from my seat over here in
- 50:51Speaker 1: the peanut gallery, I have no idea how they plan
- 50:55Speaker 1: to get her off. But one thing I do know
- 50:57Speaker 1: is we'll be following along as the trial continues, and
- 51:01Speaker 1: as the state of Idaho works towards convicting Lori Vallow
- 51:05Speaker 1: of murder. All right, folks, all of the information that
- 51:08Speaker 1: goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
