- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball. We talk about so much more. And oh,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Catherine's finally off the plane, but she couldn't join me
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the studio today. So I'm here on my lonesome.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm Cox, I'm Liz Allis.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Look.
- 0:21Speaker 3: The reason I wasn't was because I heard a rumor
- 0:25Speaker 3: that the league is opening up to.
- 0:27Speaker 1: A couple more teams.
- 0:28Speaker 3: So I thought I'll go to the Gold Coast and
- 0:30Speaker 3: see if I can get one up and running, and
- 0:33Speaker 3: then I'm gonna move there.
- 0:35Speaker 1: As the head coach.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, there is there's a scoop. You heard
- 0:39Speaker 2: it here first.
- 0:40Speaker 1: That doesn't suit me at all, Catherine, No, I know
- 0:44Speaker 1: you can come a visit.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Suits me fine, My bestie live up the ride. I'll
- 0:48Speaker 2: be very happy about that.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I don't think there'll be a few winners.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I don't know how you go coaching,
- 0:54Speaker 2: but anyway, we'd see.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Hey, it's exciting. He so, Liz. And the last thing
- 0:59Speaker 1: I read was that it's also then opened up to
- 1:00Speaker 1: New Zealand.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, basically the EOI has gone out and yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and that's essentially all it is. It's an expression of interest.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So it's really interesting to see the things that are
- 1:12Speaker 2: popping up. So I saw Netball Tazzy have put their
- 1:14Speaker 2: hand up and said that they'll be submitting an EOI,
- 1:17Speaker 2: so yeah, it's good. There's lots of chat around about
- 1:19Speaker 2: what's possible and it's really just it'd be great to
- 1:22Speaker 2: see what interest series and how it comes back.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Can I ask a question then, given the chat about
- 1:27Speaker 3: News Night being up to New Zealand, does that mean
- 1:29Speaker 3: it's opened up to other countries.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Well, it's just an EOI right, So it's not like
- 1:34Speaker 2: a like anyone can can take the EOI information and
- 1:38Speaker 2: lodge an expression of interest and then there's a firm
- 1:42Speaker 2: that Netball Australia working with and they will go through
- 1:45Speaker 2: those and sort of work out and provide some advice
- 1:48Speaker 2: on who how why. So I mean anyone can get
- 1:53Speaker 2: an AI. So that's it's still like it's not just
- 1:56Speaker 2: gonna be a bit careful, right, It's an EOI and
- 1:59Speaker 2: we've just astray have just opened it. So management has said, yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: anyone can take the information, the documentation and can lodge
- 2:05Speaker 2: an expression of interest and then it's up to up
- 2:08Speaker 2: to Netball Australia to look through and go okay, Well,
- 2:11Speaker 2: would management recommend that there is a team from New
- 2:14Speaker 2: Zealand or England or Singapore or whatever like, wherever the
- 2:18Speaker 2: interests might come from, or would Super Netball be best
- 2:21Speaker 2: served by having a team in Alice Springs or Tasmania
- 2:24Speaker 2: or wherever. Right, So it just depends where the expressions
- 2:27Speaker 2: of interest come from. So it's really open because it
- 2:30Speaker 2: really is to see what's out there and what's available.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I guess that if West Coast fever, have siug
- 2:37Speaker 1: Audians talked us about their travel schedule when they've got
- 2:40Speaker 1: to when they went to the Sunshine Coast last year,
- 2:42Speaker 1: if they've got to get to England or Jamaica, it's
- 2:45Speaker 1: going to make for a tough season, isn't it.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So I wasn't thinking that far away, but certainly the
- 2:50Speaker 3: Singapore's and though you know Barley might need to host
- 2:53Speaker 3: a netball team, I'm pretty sure we can go over
- 2:55Speaker 3: there and help them out.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Well, tell you how about an Ireland. I am waiting
- 2:59Speaker 2: to here with a Hamilton Island again an expression of interest.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Get on board the ham Island train, come on. But
- 3:07Speaker 1: that's like this is only part of huge stuff coming
- 3:11Speaker 1: down and at Australia last week, like the ten Year Plan, Liz.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, the ten Year Strategic Plan was launched. Catherine was there.
- 3:17Speaker 2: We went to the Governor General's house at Admiralty House,
- 3:20Speaker 2: which was just amazing.
- 3:22Speaker 4: She's a rock star, Yeah she is.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And our friend Katherine may Or may not have taken
- 3:30Speaker 2: a photo of the label on Sam's on her Excellency
- 3:34Speaker 2: the Governor General suit because she she would like today
- 3:37Speaker 2: where she gets her suits made. So I was sitting
- 3:39Speaker 2: there doing all the greetings, right, So the Governor General
- 3:42Speaker 2: and I are standing at the door of Admiralty House
- 3:44Speaker 2: greeting the guests as they came in, and I should
- 3:47Speaker 2: have seen it coming. Cox is like, where do you
- 3:49Speaker 2: get your suits from? Who makes them? Can I take
- 3:51Speaker 2: if I was a label? Oh my god, discovering launch
- 3:56Speaker 2: there's always one. And then I made the mistake of
- 3:58Speaker 2: entrusting my child to so anyway, my daughter everyle was there.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So I don't know what Catherine taught her, but she's
- 4:04Speaker 2: come home and she's been very naughty since. So no,
- 4:08Speaker 2: not really, that's exactly what I taught her. Yeah, So
- 4:11Speaker 2: launching the strategic Plan was really exciting. There's a lot
- 4:14Speaker 2: of work that's gone into it and it really just
- 4:17Speaker 2: sets out a bit of a roadmap for the next
- 4:18Speaker 2: ten years. And as you know, awful lot can change
- 4:20Speaker 2: in ten years. But I think part of what you
- 4:23Speaker 2: want to do as a governing body is to talk
- 4:26Speaker 2: to people about where you want to get to.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So you will very good. You have been busy, Catherine.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I've been worried about you in the past week though,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I know that Black Friday sales are a very risky
- 4:37Speaker 1: time for you and your home finances. How'd you go?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Did you play one of their governor General suits? No,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I haven't. I haven't done that yet. I did google
- 4:47Speaker 1: them and have a look.
- 4:48Speaker 3: They're quite expensive, so I'm not sure that that will
- 4:51Speaker 3: ever happen, but they are divine. Joh, what now that
- 4:55Speaker 3: you say it, I don't think I've bought a single
- 4:57Speaker 3: thing what not?
- 4:59Speaker 1: This week. I have gone early. You know this.
- 5:01Speaker 3: The Black Friday sales doesn't seem to be on Black
- 5:03Speaker 3: Friday on one particular day. It seems to go for
- 5:06Speaker 3: a couple of weeks now. But no, I'm disappointed in myself.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Have you two?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I've gone hard I've done most of my Christmas shopping.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Oh have you smart?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Do you have a deal a list or do you
- 5:18Speaker 3: just write stuff down when people say.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Oh, I really like one of those Are you one
- 5:22Speaker 1: of those people? Or do you? What do you do
- 5:23Speaker 1: with his shopping?
- 5:24Speaker 2: But I ring my sister and say what do you want?
- 5:26Speaker 2: She tells me. I ring my mom and say what
- 5:28Speaker 2: do you want? She tells me, I make my kids
- 5:29Speaker 2: write me a list, and I buy my husband whenever
- 5:32Speaker 2: I need. So he's getting whatever you need. He's getting
- 5:38Speaker 2: to Christmas.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Holy love that.
- 5:41Speaker 2: No, I do love anyway, So no, but I will
- 5:46Speaker 2: say I'm normally a bit hopeless. But my sister Kathleen
- 5:49Speaker 2: has whipped me into shape. And she's massive on the
- 5:53Speaker 2: black Fridays like she and she has a list in
- 5:56Speaker 2: her head. She knows what she wants to buy. So yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: she's been very good, saying to me, right, we're getting
- 6:03Speaker 2: this for mum? What do you think? I'm like, you
- 6:05Speaker 2: get whatever you're like? To tell me? How much are you?
- 6:07Speaker 2: She sent me luch. She was at my house last
- 6:09Speaker 2: night and she said, oh what about this for this person?
- 6:13Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't know, And she was already online
- 6:15Speaker 2: finding the link to the cheapest place. She's like, she's
- 6:17Speaker 2: a gun at that sort of stuff. So she just
- 6:20Speaker 2: she has whipped me into shape.
- 6:21Speaker 1: This year, I might send her my list.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I think, what do you do, swindle?
- 6:26Speaker 1: I did a couple of little things, but not terrifically much.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I've still got vouchers that you made me, but we
- 6:31Speaker 1: didn't make me, but you encouraged me to buy when
- 6:34Speaker 1: we were out at a boozy lunch last year. I've
- 6:36Speaker 1: still got vouchers for that, for that restaurant.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And it's like, well, I got an email from them
- 6:42Speaker 3: for more vouchers and I was like, yeah, no, I
- 6:44Speaker 3: probably should spend the ones i've got first.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Still getting through those. What I have done, though, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm sure this is very relatable, is that I've had
- 6:53Speaker 1: some Team Moose surprise packages show up lately, and so
- 6:58Speaker 1: I thought that, you know this endless, bloody spinning wheel,
- 7:02Speaker 1: do this, you get another discount. And I was just
- 7:06Speaker 1: trying to buy one thing, and then went through all
- 7:10Speaker 1: of that process, and I had the twenty eight things
- 7:12Speaker 1: that are free in my cart, and then I went
- 7:14Speaker 1: to pay for it, and it's like ninety dollars and
- 7:16Speaker 1: so well that's not free. I don't understand, so I
- 7:19Speaker 1: just clicked out of it. And then a couple of
- 7:21Speaker 1: weeks later I thought, oh, I haven't bought that thing,
- 7:23Speaker 1: so I jumped online and bought it. And again, oh,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I should get some Christmas wrapping paper and the like.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So a big parcel arrived, and clearly I hadn't clicked
- 7:33Speaker 1: out of it. I'd clicked pay on the first lot.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So I am now flooded with Christmas wrapping paper and
- 7:40Speaker 1: bows and ribbons and things. And then last night, when
- 7:43Speaker 1: we got the Christmas tree out and all the Christmas decorations,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I remembered that last year after Christmas, when we went
- 7:50Speaker 1: up to the shops, they were selling a whole lot
- 7:51Speaker 1: of the little bows and ribbons and Christmas wrapping paper
- 7:54Speaker 1: for a dollar. So we bought a bunch of it
- 7:57Speaker 1: and stored it away. So this is now the global
- 8:01Speaker 1: headquarters of festive wrapping paper, here in my house, and perfect.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I will do a week of shopping this week. I'll
- 8:10Speaker 3: jump on the tail end of there's the Black Friday sales,
- 8:13Speaker 3: and when I come over to the podcast with you
- 8:14Speaker 3: next week, we'll get the wrapping station out.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Okay, up and running and you can help me. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: love this so much, I'll put a bottle of bubbles
- 8:22Speaker 1: in the fridge.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yes, And just like that, ladies and gentlemen, a Christmas
- 8:28Speaker 2: tradition was established.
- 8:29Speaker 1: A Christmas tradition established. So love it. And you got
- 8:34Speaker 1: the tree up and you had your ribs. Finally the
- 8:37Speaker 1: thirtieth of November, Catherine, it's I'm impressed. Yeah, it's big
- 8:41Speaker 1: for abut it because we just had we would have
- 8:42Speaker 1: to wait another ten or twelve days to get to
- 8:46Speaker 1: get the kids over here in order to do it,
- 8:47Speaker 1: so we went early and it was, Yeah, it was.
- 8:51Speaker 1: It was actually very emotional because I've told you about
- 8:53Speaker 1: how we have Christmas decorations for all of the family
- 8:56Speaker 1: members and this is the first time every year when
- 8:59Speaker 1: I put them away, I think, think, I don't know
- 9:01Speaker 1: what it's going to look like next year, but I
- 9:02Speaker 1: just hope everyone is still alive and well. And you know,
- 9:05Speaker 1: we lost Pete's dad a couple of months ago and
- 9:08Speaker 1: sort of pulling out this decoration and you know, you're
- 9:11Speaker 1: so busy at the time and dealing with funerals and
- 9:15Speaker 1: arrangements and things, and it was sort of the first
- 9:18Speaker 1: time that we just sort of sat with it and gone,
- 9:20Speaker 1: oh wow, this has happened. So it was really beautiful,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but also just tinged with the sadness that it never
- 9:27Speaker 1: has been before, but that we have known always would
- 9:30Speaker 1: come one day. So but yeah, it's a nice tradition.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Nice to do it all together.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah that is lovely. No sign of a Christmas treet
- 9:38Speaker 2: my house.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Team, Oh God, off for my second one up already.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I went to the Gold not in the same house.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I went to the Gold Coast and spewed Christmas all
- 9:48Speaker 3: over mom and Dad's house while I was up there.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Went to the giant Christmas store that's in the Gold
- 9:53Speaker 3: Coast that we go to every year, and every year
- 9:56Speaker 3: I walk in there with a plan, a hard stance
- 9:59Speaker 3: of not looking out with having bought any more Christmas crap.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Why do you even go there kicking?
- 10:07Speaker 3: You've got You've got no idea how beautiful this story is.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I'm wore literally, I said to Harper maybe six times, God,
- 10:13Speaker 3: I love it in here, And she's like, Mama, I
- 10:15Speaker 3: know you already said that.
- 10:16Speaker 1: It's just and it's aller kids running around and everyone's
- 10:19Speaker 1: in a good mood, and it's just Christmas shit everywhere
- 10:22Speaker 1: so it's so great.
- 10:26Speaker 3: It was chockers and I reckon. They had about twenty
- 10:28Speaker 3: staff just running ragged. So what did we get. We
- 10:31Speaker 3: got some like Christmas snow that you stick up on
- 10:34Speaker 3: your window. And we've got a couple of ornaments because
- 10:36Speaker 3: my dad's not well either, as you know, and we've
- 10:38Speaker 3: got off the back of your conversation about doing the
- 10:41Speaker 3: Christmas ornament, we got some of the clear ones you
- 10:43Speaker 3: can put a photo in. I'm going to put a
- 10:46Speaker 3: couple of photos of dad and stuff in some of
- 10:48Speaker 3: those ornaments. We found those up there, and you know,
- 10:51Speaker 3: just a Grinch one for father, for Harper's father, stuff
- 10:55Speaker 3: like that.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Obviously he does not listen to the podcast.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Nah, but she made me buy it.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I was like, okay, oh, I love it.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That's good fun. One of my favorite Christmas traditions. We
- 11:12Speaker 1: bought this book again. It's something so you know, we've
- 11:14Speaker 1: talked about how everyone's willing to put the tree up,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but no bastards around to help pack everything away. So
- 11:21Speaker 1: this and this is the same thing. So we have
- 11:22Speaker 1: this book and I bought it in twenty fifteen, and
- 11:24Speaker 1: every year we write in it where we spent Christmas,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and we put photos and then everyone who we spent
- 11:30Speaker 1: Christmas with writes something in there about the year or
- 11:33Speaker 1: about Christmas or whatever they want. This year was like
- 11:36Speaker 1: the tenth of January and I'm shouting at people, we
- 11:38Speaker 1: cannot put this away until everyone has written in it.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You will remember your festive spirit, and you will write
- 11:44Speaker 1: in this book. And I should have got two French ornaments. Yes,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but everyone's grateful that I make them do it, because
- 11:52Speaker 1: we now have this thing that goes back and you know,
- 11:54Speaker 1: when the kids could barely write, they were sort of
- 11:57Speaker 1: scratching stuff together. We pull together the letters to Santa
- 12:00Speaker 1: when we put out the snacks on Christmas. Even thing
- 12:03Speaker 1: we keep though, because it's nice that Santa doesn't take
- 12:05Speaker 1: those with him, I reckon so you can keep them yourself. Yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: so that's one of my favorite things. And looking back
- 12:10Speaker 1: through that, and we started that in twenty fifteen, so
- 12:15Speaker 1: that it seems like a minute and a half ago,
- 12:17Speaker 1: doesn't it. But it's a long time ago. That is
- 12:19Speaker 1: very cool though. I do like that. Maybe we should
- 12:21Speaker 1: start to oh you know, what did happen?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Though?
- 12:23Speaker 3: Speaking of stupid traditions, we got home from Queensland, the
- 12:27Speaker 3: elf was on my bed.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Oh, stupid thing is back.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Oh just when you think.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Surely the kids too old, he rocks up again.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Ah, okay, there's anyone.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Else, got to shelf him in the house. No, we
- 12:45Speaker 1: have snoop on the stoop. Oh, snoop dog, snoop dog.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And it's the same thing. And this is quite funny.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So my twelve year old daughter has decided that she
- 12:54Speaker 1: wants to really embrace the tradition this year, and every
- 12:57Speaker 1: night she wants to put together something for it is
- 13:00Speaker 1: a bit of a surprise. And this morning walked out
- 13:03Speaker 1: and there's a line of white powder and snoop sleeping
- 13:08Speaker 1: and beside it, and the note said, that was a
- 13:11Speaker 1: long walk. Now I need to sleep now. I think
- 13:14Speaker 1: she wants this to be snow, as in not the
- 13:18Speaker 1: stuff that people buy in very small blow bags at
- 13:22Speaker 1: great expense and illegally, but the stuff that falls from
- 13:25Speaker 1: the ground. But I think with snoop you can't really
- 13:29Speaker 1: be sure which one it is, can you. So I'll
- 13:30Speaker 1: be interesting to see where she takes this over the month.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I thought he was going to be holding a joint,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but go with that, so it does.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So Cataine, do you not light the elf? On the shelf.
- 13:45Speaker 3: No, I don't trouble. No, he does make a bit
- 13:50Speaker 3: of a mess, although not too much. He's gotten a
- 13:52Speaker 3: little less problematic in recent years. But it's just he's
- 13:56Speaker 3: just a pain.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Just you know. The best thing about him was COVID.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Do you remember everybody had had him in a bottle
- 14:02Speaker 3: for like he had to quarantine for two weeks of December.
- 14:06Speaker 1: How gray was that. I'm just stuck here, Yeah, stuck
- 14:12Speaker 1: in a bottle, couldn't go anywhere, couldn't do anything. And
- 14:14Speaker 1: now here's the grinch. It is just a massive house.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Do you do at least? Do you do elf on
- 14:20Speaker 1: the shelf?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Snoop on the stop? No, well, there's no surprise to anyone.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I just don't like the idea of having some other
- 14:28Speaker 2: being in the house spying on us, so it's a
- 14:31Speaker 2: bit weird. So no, we don't do off on the shelf.
- 14:34Speaker 2: There's no elf here. And the kids get lots of
- 14:37Speaker 2: elf action at school because the elks are very naughty
- 14:41Speaker 2: in the classroom. Yes, oh wow, okay, very naughty. So
- 14:45Speaker 2: I don't want that, yes exactly. So no, that that
- 14:48Speaker 2: has worked quite nicely. It's beginning to look alive like
- 14:53Speaker 2: Christmas every were you go.
- 15:01Speaker 1: The teachers must be exhausted, like just limping through to
- 15:06Speaker 1: the end of the year.
- 15:08Speaker 4: I don't feel like there's that.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Much learning going on. We got an email on Friday.
- 15:12Speaker 3: To say that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday would be swim school.
- 15:15Speaker 3: My girl, nothing like no notice. Oh wow, I feel
- 15:18Speaker 3: like they've just got to this week and what.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Can we do.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Can we.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Imagine them ringing around got room for some classes? Yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 2: you do great, Okay, book it in. What do we
- 15:28Speaker 2: book in?
- 15:29Speaker 1: I don't know, we don't care book something. I reckon
- 15:34Speaker 1: Year six is a gap year, like, yes, you're finishing
- 15:37Speaker 1: primary school, you haven't yet started high school, so just
- 15:41Speaker 1: do nothing for a year other than have fun and
- 15:43Speaker 1: run charity stalls and things like that.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Well, we used to laugh at Evelyn when she was
- 15:48Speaker 2: in year six. I think there might have been like
- 15:51Speaker 2: three weeks in the whole year that she had a
- 15:53Speaker 2: full week at school because she just signed up for
- 15:57Speaker 2: every sport, so every week she was off playing another sport,
- 16:00Speaker 2: another gala day and we were just like, oh, well,
- 16:04Speaker 2: it's only six And then she at the end of
- 16:06Speaker 2: end of year six she was like, Okay, now I
- 16:09Speaker 2: know that for going into high school. They played this
- 16:11Speaker 2: video at their YU six grad and she was saying,
- 16:13Speaker 2: I know, going into high school, I can't play all
- 16:15Speaker 2: the sports. Next minute she's in year rate and she's
- 16:17Speaker 2: still playing all the sports. I don't know where she
- 16:19Speaker 2: got that idea from p S.
- 16:21Speaker 1: She is so fit.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I gave her a hug when I saw her on Friday,
- 16:26Speaker 3: and well when was the dinner Monday night? And then
- 16:28Speaker 3: again on when we're at the Governor's house.
- 16:30Speaker 1: She's so strong.
- 16:32Speaker 2: She's so strong, isn't she.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. I was like, everyone, you are so fit.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm jealous.
- 16:37Speaker 2: She's got these little like this little six pack, and
- 16:40Speaker 2: I was like, I never, even when I was fit
- 16:42Speaker 2: on never had one of them.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Oh yeah, she's fit.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And she's strong and she's builtn and so she's last duck. Yeah. Well,
- 16:49Speaker 2: she's starting an ENCs waights program this week. She's like,
- 16:52Speaker 2: I can't wait to get into wait. So I'm like, yeah, no,
- 16:56Speaker 2: the days where we used to wrestle when you're a
- 16:57Speaker 2: little kid, nice to win, they are officially over over.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Speaking of all the sport that she's doing, what did
- 17:03Speaker 3: you decide about your January holiday?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Does she know about Rugby camp.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, she knows about Rugby camp, and she reluctantly agreed
- 17:08Speaker 2: to just come on holidays. So she's a wi Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 2: So look, it was hard, right because we wanted it,
- 17:14Speaker 2: like you wanted to have all the opportunities, and she
- 17:16Speaker 2: loves rugby, absolutely loves it. But because we had booked
- 17:20Speaker 2: this quite some time ago and we've had such a
- 17:23Speaker 2: busy year, it was just really important that we learent
- 17:26Speaker 2: on this holiday. So she gets it, and she knows
- 17:28Speaker 2: also knows that, you know, there's a risk of injury,
- 17:30Speaker 2: and she didn't want to do that ahead of a
- 17:33Speaker 2: busy year coming up with the Academy and the Netball
- 17:36Speaker 2: Academy stuff, So she was like, So it was difficult,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and we gave her the option, but she voted the
- 17:42Speaker 2: way that I wanted her to vote, so we still
- 17:47Speaker 2: had a tazzy Yeah, that's.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Great, And look, it's a good time of year to
- 17:51Speaker 1: get kids to make decisions if you have a strong
- 17:54Speaker 1: preference for which way you want them to go that
- 17:56Speaker 1: it's like, well, Christmas is coming up, obviously it's up
- 17:59Speaker 1: to you, but Santa is watching Santa is.
- 18:03Speaker 3: What They all changed their mind on Boxing Day.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's the golden ear of parenting, isn't it When they've
- 18:10Speaker 1: worked out that there might be some furfies going around
- 18:14Speaker 1: about the stories they've been told around Christmas for a
- 18:17Speaker 1: long time, but they also know it's in their best
- 18:19Speaker 1: interest to keep pretending. So I think that's the golden era.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Hey talking about Evelyn being so fit. I just pulled
- 18:26Speaker 1: this up so you know, each week in the Every
- 18:28Speaker 1: Fortnight in our Notdriable Facebook group, I asked people to
- 18:31Speaker 1: tell us about their weekly wins. We've got some pretty
- 18:34Speaker 1: amazing physical feats that have been going on. There's a
- 18:37Speaker 1: lot of extraordinary stuff going on. Jonathan Kelly had his
- 18:40Speaker 1: first gym session back after a moniscous knee surgery this week.
- 18:43Speaker 2: That is some world.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I'm Jonathan close to my heart, Jonathan. But Julia Carrott
- 18:48Speaker 1: now this. I met Julia in our Development Coach netbook
- 18:51Speaker 1: course earlier this year, and then her under elevens came
- 18:54Speaker 1: up against my under elevens, and we all know how
- 18:57Speaker 1: my under elevens went. HER's did much better. She finished
- 19:01Speaker 1: the Ultra Trail Cozy fifty, her first marathon and first
- 19:06Speaker 1: Ultra marathon on the same day, and she says that
- 19:09Speaker 1: what just got her through many a long training run
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the leader. So she's run fifty kilometers is what
- 19:16Speaker 1: I'm reading from that. That is all my goodness.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I saw that. Oh no, I saw someone else did that.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Sally said someone else did her thirty finished it after
- 19:28Speaker 1: dnfing last year. So that's amazing to Lisa, Lisa j
- 19:31Speaker 1: well done. But like, seriously, what like why drive that far?
- 19:36Speaker 1: Get it? Do you know exactly?
- 19:39Speaker 3: There's so many services that will take you in some
- 19:42Speaker 3: sort of transport. But the thing with that is that
- 19:44Speaker 3: blows my mind is you have to train for that
- 19:47Speaker 3: as well.
- 19:48Speaker 1: It's the commitment long before you smash yourself. No, I
- 19:52Speaker 1: think you should just do it. Catherine, run it cold.
- 19:54Speaker 1: You don't need to know. Can you imagine how that
- 19:57Speaker 1: would play out?
- 19:59Speaker 2: You want good footwear? You couldn't do it in heels.
- 20:01Speaker 2: It's not the olden days.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I couldn't do it. No ever. BUTIOSCO too, like
- 20:07Speaker 1: it's going to be sort of undulating territory and oh
- 20:11Speaker 1: that's impressive stuff. Yeah, wow, impressive, but also zero appeal
- 20:17Speaker 1: for me.
- 20:17Speaker 2: But I really yeah, I don't think they're taking the
- 20:20Speaker 2: chairlifts for the first part, which is what I do
- 20:22Speaker 2: last you and I don't think I am from it.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Is a great one. You know the people who climb
- 20:28Speaker 1: all seven peaks on seven continents, and it's like, well,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I've walked to the top of Mount Kosiosco and I
- 20:34Speaker 1: think it is wheelchair accessible most of the way. So
- 20:37Speaker 1: it's like that's great. I'm very proud of that. But
- 20:40Speaker 1: I don't think we should be allowed to count Mount Kosiosco.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And when people are saying they're doing the seven peaks
- 20:45Speaker 1: around the around the continents.
- 20:47Speaker 2: No way, you have to count Mount Koziosco.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It's our Well I've done one, then yeah, there you
- 20:52Speaker 1: go see it, just one and done. What's the tallest
- 20:56Speaker 1: mountain in the South Wales.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Isn't Kaziosco the tall Well it would be, wouldn't I
- 21:07Speaker 2: My God's excellent, Ah, yes it would be.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Because it's a.
- 21:13Speaker 2: You're asking a trick question, then I'm going to say Cosiosco.
- 21:17Speaker 2: She's gonna go n plug Coosco Like well.
- 21:21Speaker 1: The reason I was asking is because I went to
- 21:23Speaker 1: primary school in Queensland and I can tell you that
- 21:25Speaker 1: Mount Bartelfrea is the highest mountain in Queensland. It's like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: what useless information? And so in that moment, while focusing
- 21:31Speaker 1: on one set of useless information, I forgot that I
- 21:35Speaker 1: actually have one piece of useful information that I could
- 21:38Speaker 1: have not made myself look like a complete fool then.
- 21:41Speaker 3: But anyway, that's okay, you're still in a Christmas rib coma.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Clearly thank you. I appreciate your understanding. I feel like
- 21:49Speaker 1: I can relate to Kate Lindsay who said she didn't
- 21:52Speaker 1: toast her sandwich in clean wrap like she did last week.
- 21:54Speaker 1: So you know she and I are sisters in incompetence.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Oh my god, I've told you guys this story, haven't
- 22:01Speaker 2: I about putting the sun You're on and me going,
- 22:07Speaker 2: did you take the clean rap off? Being a smart ass,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and she was like no, and there's still in the oven.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I was like, Jesus, I'm on the phone just waiting
- 22:16Speaker 2: for her to come back and go the house is
- 22:18Speaker 2: on fire. Anyway. Every time we give her a job now,
- 22:21Speaker 2: it's like, oh, I don't forget to take the clean
- 22:23Speaker 2: wrap off before you put it in the oven.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes they just need some gentle reminders and will
- 22:28Speaker 1: that be like forever?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Oh for her that is forever.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't let things go in this household.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, no, never. You never let anything go, particularly when
- 22:36Speaker 2: your kids are smart and they have had so much
- 22:38Speaker 2: hand over you that when you get that one bit
- 22:40Speaker 2: of hand, you're like, I will keep that, thank you.
- 22:42Speaker 5: I will play this back to you until the day forever. Yeah, forever, forever.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I would like to talk about Christmas for the entire episode,
- 23:05Speaker 1: but I feel like we should talk a bit about netball.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I know we talked about netball at the beginning, but
- 23:11Speaker 1: the MAVs have got a coach, stand.
- 23:14Speaker 3: By goodness, and it's not somebody that I think majority
- 23:19Speaker 3: of people would have ever heard of.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I had to google him. Yep, it's a guy. Yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 1: there's a lot I love about this.
- 23:26Speaker 3: You know, it's not often at elite sport level you
- 23:29Speaker 3: get a coach in given a chance that is unknown
- 23:33Speaker 3: to a lot of people because firstly, the jobs don't
- 23:35Speaker 3: come up that often. But a lot of the time
- 23:37Speaker 3: they'll go searching for you know, there's a lot of
- 23:39Speaker 3: talk around Dame Nolene Tatua taking the job that didn't happen.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Obviously, this is exciting.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I'm so excited that we've finally got someone else coming
- 23:49Speaker 3: through that's done the hard work in the junior ranks
- 23:52Speaker 3: or the whatever ranks he has been coming through. And
- 23:54Speaker 3: this is Jered Murphy obviously, doctor Jared Murphy, Doctor Jered Murphy.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I hope you make them. I'll call him doctor.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Now his doctor is from actual doctor or I assumed
- 24:05Speaker 3: it was a PhD in sports science or but I
- 24:09Speaker 3: don't know.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Is someone googling that?
- 24:12Speaker 2: No, I'll google it. I'm googling it like a mad woman.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You're the around. So he has been with the Vixen's Academy,
- 24:19Speaker 1: hasn't he? So he's head coach of Geelong or something
- 24:23Speaker 1: and has been with the Vixen's Academy. So we got
- 24:25Speaker 1: this information like ten minutes before we came to air.
- 24:27Speaker 1: So apologies for the half aastness of it, but I
- 24:30Speaker 1: think if we did anything more, you guys would fall
- 24:33Speaker 1: off your seats in shock, and there'd be car accidents
- 24:36Speaker 1: across the country while people are listening and thinking, my god, No,
- 24:39Speaker 1: Dribble actually did some rigorous research for us.
- 24:42Speaker 3: So but on that, can I just do a little
- 24:46Speaker 3: shout out to the MAVs because, as you know, everybody,
- 24:49Speaker 3: we record on a Monday, and we dropped the app
- 24:51Speaker 3: on the Wednesday, and every single time there's a big announcement,
- 24:55Speaker 3: it happens on the Tuesday, and we've missed it and
- 24:58Speaker 3: we look stupid. But the MAVs we're happy to share
- 25:00Speaker 3: the information with us ahead of it being publicly released.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So by the time you guys hear it on Wednesday,
- 25:06Speaker 1: you already know. But we've been we've.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Been given an opportunity to chat about it. So that's nice, fabulous,
- 25:11Speaker 3: which is very nice. Yeah, how exciting.
- 25:14Speaker 2: He's an osteopath.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Oh god, that's going to be handy.
- 25:18Speaker 2: You're not very handy, you know, imagine that would Does
- 25:21Speaker 2: that make him well, I'm just looking at his Instagram handle,
- 25:24Speaker 2: Digital Executive High Performance Network coach osteopath. I think that's
- 25:28Speaker 2: officially a triple threat? Is it not?
- 25:30Speaker 4: Big time?
- 25:32Speaker 1: I've never been to an osteopath, but when I was
- 25:34Speaker 1: at UNI, my housemate went to an osteopath because she
- 25:36Speaker 1: had a sore jaw and he made her striped down
- 25:40Speaker 1: to her underwear and she was wearing a G string
- 25:43Speaker 1: and it's like, you know, how you have the first
- 25:45Speaker 1: G string you've ever bought in like five or six
- 25:47Speaker 1: years later, you go, this thing needs to go out now.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It's got no structural integrity. Anyway, he stood behind her
- 25:53Speaker 1: with his hands on her hip bones and made her
- 25:57Speaker 1: touch her toes. I know for her, I saw her
- 26:00Speaker 1: sore jaw. Came home. We said, you've just been totally scammed. Anyway,
- 26:06Speaker 1: the next time she went and saw him, she had
- 26:08Speaker 1: proper underpants on, but he didn't want to see her
- 26:10Speaker 1: naked again. She went back to this guy. I know.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I thought it was unusual too. I was remembering a
- 26:19Speaker 1: story about this woman yesterday and she she I haven't
- 26:22Speaker 1: seen her in a while. She's got gorgeous red hair.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And she was at my first wedding and my uncle
- 26:28Speaker 1: came over and he said to her, he's from New Zealand,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and he said, you look like that girl who's in
- 26:34Speaker 1: Canberra and.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Hand.
- 26:42Speaker 1: My friend was in wedding and in her very early thirties,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and she didn't love that. But I'd forgotten about that
- 26:51Speaker 1: until yesterday. And it's oh, actually, that's funny. Oh well,
- 26:54Speaker 1: that's the other side of Christmas, isn't it. All the
- 26:56Speaker 1: wellies come together and have some drinks in the gaps.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Then asked, oh, my goodness, the beauty of having a
- 27:02Speaker 3: small family.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Well anyway, doctor Jared Murphy, we wish you well. I'm
- 27:07Speaker 1: sure that that path was unusual and was not an
- 27:11Speaker 1: exemplar of the profession. But yeah, looking forward to seeing
- 27:14Speaker 1: what you're doing with the MAVs. Absolutely, it's very exciting.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Wells for excited, Welcome to the big time. And finally,
- 27:19Speaker 1: my god, how long you know it's been just it's
- 27:22Speaker 1: been torture actually waiting on this, hasn't it. It's been
- 27:24Speaker 1: such a Do you.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Know who the happiest person will be, I mean, other
- 27:28Speaker 2: than the MAVs obviously, Dan Ryan, it's got to mate.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you think they'll talk shop don't? I don't
- 27:35Speaker 1: think so. I don't think they're sharing any secrets. It'll
- 27:40Speaker 1: be very interesting. I can't wait.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Just you know the personalities of these coaches, they're all
- 27:46Speaker 3: very different, aren't they. So this is exciting, exciting to
- 27:49Speaker 3: see what he's all about.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's great to see like there's been a
- 27:52Speaker 2: bit of so much talk about who the MAVs were
- 27:54Speaker 2: going to appoint as their coach, so it's great that
- 27:56Speaker 2: that's locked in now and then they can everyone can
- 27:58Speaker 2: just get on with season next year.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Yeah, done, yep.
- 28:02Speaker 3: And Nicole Richardson stays as assistant coach too. Obviously we
- 28:06Speaker 3: knew she had signed, but that's exciting too. So at
- 28:08Speaker 3: least she's the stable one there been there can pass
- 28:11Speaker 3: on the words of wisdom about how the MAVs operate anymore.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I want to come in and shake it all up anyway, Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 2: watched his space.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Hey, well they had a big recruitment, didn't they. So
- 28:20Speaker 1: it's going to be it's there's a whole lot of
- 28:21Speaker 1: people who don't know the way the MAVs have operated
- 28:24Speaker 1: in the past coming in, so it's quite that's quite
- 28:26Speaker 1: exciting for them.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and I reckon Shimona Jock is just like, she's
- 28:31Speaker 2: such a great lynch pin for them. I'm excited. I
- 28:34Speaker 2: didn't realize how tall she was actually until I stood
- 28:36Speaker 2: next to her recently and I was like, whoa eight,
- 28:38Speaker 2: I'm glad I'm retired and beat no wonder, you are outstanding.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Yeah, she's an incredible and don't forget going to have
- 28:44Speaker 3: Riley Batcheldor out in the front of him.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yes again, glad I'm retired and Jail Oh wow, even
- 28:53Speaker 2: more glad I'm retired. Oh and Kim Jenner and Tara Hirshliff. Yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 2: it's a good team.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's a good time. But speaking of j LP, can
- 29:01Speaker 1: I share with you something quite shocking that has happened
- 29:04Speaker 1: to me this week. So we've got a digital photophone,
- 29:08Speaker 1: which is great because you get your photos off your
- 29:09Speaker 1: phone up on the wall. They flash up you're walking
- 29:12Speaker 1: past you. Oh, I still remember that, blah blahlah. It's great.
- 29:14Speaker 1: But in wanting to get my photos off my phone,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I'm sorting through them to try to upload them, and
- 29:19Speaker 1: I found photos of my very last game of netball,
- 29:22Speaker 1: which happened to be in twenty sixteen. I played wing Attack.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Oh, I know.
- 29:28Speaker 1: That's basically my whole personality.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Goss is a dirty secret.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Well, I kind of like you a little bit now, though.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Don't try and steal it to your end of the court, Catherine.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Now, did you forget about this or did you just
- 29:43Speaker 1: push it to the bay? I knew I'd played this game,
- 29:45Speaker 1: but I didn't. I didn't want to play. I had
- 29:47Speaker 1: friends pushing me into it, and I was terrified of
- 29:49Speaker 1: doing something to knees and ankles, and recent history has
- 29:52Speaker 1: shown me I had a good reason to be worried
- 29:54Speaker 1: about that. But so yeah, they just shoved me into
- 29:57Speaker 1: a position and we won eight two, which it's very
- 30:00Speaker 1: nice bait too. Yeah, how good is the feeling of
- 30:04Speaker 1: an assist?
- 30:05Speaker 2: Though?
- 30:05Speaker 1: You would have been buzzing when you came off, and
- 30:07Speaker 1: you have been this whole time, but you haven't confessed.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I was.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I was buzzing with not having hurt my knee, Lizzi Ellis,
- 30:13Speaker 1: were you just laughing at at our schoolline then no,
- 30:16Speaker 1: I was just confirming it.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I did I laugh. I did not laugh.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I had a little inner chuckle, but I.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Was like, sounds like sounds up the score from the
- 30:25Speaker 2: un to twelve's.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Well, you know, it was a Monday night indoor netball
- 30:31Speaker 1: for middle aged women. It could have been the mcquari
- 30:34Speaker 1: Dictionary word of the year six eleven.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Is that the word of the year that's not not?
- 30:42Speaker 1: Are you kidding? Yeah? A few years ago it was
- 30:45Speaker 1: milkshake duck?
- 30:47Speaker 2: What's that?
- 30:48Speaker 1: So? I think I can't remember, But it's something to
- 30:51Speaker 1: do with some crazy shit that you see on the
- 30:53Speaker 1: internet that doesn't exist in reality or something. I will
- 30:55Speaker 1: look that up for us. But it's like, I think
- 30:57Speaker 1: that the word of the year, the Macquarie word of
- 31:00Speaker 1: the year has jumped the shark.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, I think six seven might be it. I
- 31:04Speaker 2: went and actually did a bit of googling, because I
- 31:06Speaker 2: do love a bit of Google, and going down a
- 31:07Speaker 2: rabbit hole about six seven, and I watched the video
- 31:10Speaker 2: that it's based on. Of you watch the video that
- 31:13Speaker 2: it sort of it's like a rap video.
- 31:15Speaker 1: No, I think you asked me this, and I did
- 31:17Speaker 1: commit to doing it, but then I thought, I don't care.
- 31:20Speaker 2: No, you don't. You don't need it.
- 31:21Speaker 1: We hand all it to Darryl.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I watched it anyway, you don't need it in your life.
- 31:25Speaker 2: It was a bit sort of made me think of
- 31:27Speaker 2: all the things that are bad in the world. So anyhow,
- 31:29Speaker 2: but six seven it's not even even a word. It
- 31:31Speaker 2: could be a phrase of the year, but it can't
- 31:34Speaker 2: be the word of the year.
- 31:35Speaker 1: But are your kids doing this? Anytime you see the
- 31:38Speaker 1: combination of numbers six seven that they exclude.
- 31:42Speaker 2: I do it past it.
- 31:43Speaker 1: But my daughter is obsessed with this, and I just
- 31:46Speaker 1: it makes me full of rage. No, you need to
- 31:50Speaker 1: you need to jump in front of it.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I do it in front of the kids, just to
- 31:55Speaker 3: horrify them, and it works a treaty. So I'm hoping
- 31:59Speaker 3: that will kind of maybe desensitize them a little bit,
- 32:02Speaker 3: or they're just going, oh, I can't I can't be
- 32:04Speaker 3: around that anymore.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It's around cool and they'll stop.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Hey now, Elizabeth, speaking of your googling skills, though, did
- 32:13Speaker 3: you find out what don't carry on like a pork
- 32:15Speaker 3: chop means? No?
- 32:17Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Oh you're too busy. Why are you going to do
- 32:21Speaker 1: a whole.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Last week?
- 32:29Speaker 1: I knew that worry about Lisa's podcast beating us in
- 32:33Speaker 1: the ratings CAF.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I knew it.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Lasted for thirty seconds. It's coming.
- 32:40Speaker 2: It's an idea that I've got, all right, anyhow, let
- 32:45Speaker 2: me alone. Let me later on whe to invite you to,
- 32:48Speaker 2: you know, hang out at the Governor General's anymore.
- 32:50Speaker 1: You didn't invite me anyway. So I'm going to keep
- 32:52Speaker 1: harassing you about this lexicology college. Is that what it's called. No,
- 32:57Speaker 1: it doesn't matter nowography lexic con I don't know.
- 33:03Speaker 2: And see now I forget the word I. I don't
- 33:05Speaker 2: know if it's because because etymology. Because I figured out
- 33:10Speaker 2: that is true.
- 33:11Speaker 1: And that's Catherine's podcast. Yes, she's going to embrace them.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I'm going to talk all about the birds and the bees.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Everybody Catherine Bearzart in Sex.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Well, they will be in this podcast because it makes
- 33:25Speaker 3: it interesting. Hey, well you're you're a waste of space.
- 33:28Speaker 3: But what about you then, Swindell, because you had an
- 33:30Speaker 3: exciting week of hosting at the Comedy Club.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I had the greatest night on Saturday night at the
- 33:36Speaker 1: Sydney's Comedy Store. Were two sellout shows, just fantastic audiences.
- 33:40Speaker 1: And I've never I've never mceed there before. I've done
- 33:43Speaker 1: a lot of MCing, but I've never hosted the comedy
- 33:45Speaker 1: showcase there and it was great. It was it was
- 33:49Speaker 1: really fun. So but you know, I'm hanging out my
- 33:52Speaker 1: comedy boots for the year. It's very nice. I'm having
- 33:54Speaker 1: a lazy girl summer.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So what does it entail.
- 33:58Speaker 3: If you're hosting it? Is it literally like using all
- 34:00Speaker 3: the acts? So it's a long night forew.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yeah. So first of all, so at the beginning of
- 34:05Speaker 1: the night, I will do at seven to ten minutes.
- 34:08Speaker 1: So my job is to warm the audience up. So
- 34:11Speaker 1: sometimes that means talking to them, getting them to engage,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and sometimes it's like this audience isn't there yet. I
- 34:18Speaker 1: have to just do some stand up and sort of
- 34:20Speaker 1: give them a bit of a show until they're ready,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and then I bring on each of the acts and
- 34:24Speaker 1: then they go on a break and then I do
- 34:26Speaker 1: the same thing and the second half to settle them
- 34:28Speaker 1: back down. So awesome. But the late show Saturday night
- 34:32Speaker 1: crowd at the Comedy Store in Sydney can be a
- 34:36Speaker 1: little bit challenging, so I've been there on some nights
- 34:39Speaker 1: when the staff have been clearing up people's vomit on
- 34:42Speaker 1: the middle of the floor because people go hard and
- 34:44Speaker 1: they like so so I was a bit nervous about that.
- 34:46Speaker 1: But they were very good, very exciting. So something you'd
- 34:49Speaker 1: want to do again. Oh for sure. Yeah, I loved it.
- 34:52Speaker 1: It was really was. It was very fun, So thank
- 34:55Speaker 1: you for asking. But yeah, that's it's actually a nice
- 34:57Speaker 1: one to finish the year with because it's not one
- 35:00Speaker 1: that yeah, it's not one that I had ever done before.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Well, we'll about to finish the year two, can you
- 35:05Speaker 3: believe it, with recording our last podcast, official podcast next week,
- 35:08Speaker 3: So dribblers, if there's anything that you actually want to
- 35:12Speaker 3: hear from us, you've got one more week to put
- 35:15Speaker 3: some requests in. Otherwise we're handing you over to our
- 35:18Speaker 3: summer series.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Well, I think they want to hear about that pork
- 35:21Speaker 1: chop thing from.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Liz Well, I certainly do.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I'm going to make it up.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I've just googled it and it's slightly i think racist
- 35:29Speaker 2: in origin. So maybe just go and google it yourself. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: maybe we can't talk about it.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Then, maybe we won't.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Maybe I'll find something else. I'll do some other etymology
- 35:40Speaker 2: for next week. She probably won't, of course, although I'm
- 35:47Speaker 2: not getting on a plane this week, I'm not getting
- 35:50Speaker 2: on it this week. I know.
- 35:51Speaker 1: God, that's exciting.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I know. So maybe next week I might have been
- 35:54Speaker 2: kicked out of the house because my family will be
- 35:56Speaker 2: sick of me. But we'll see.
- 35:58Speaker 1: So we capt deal with seven days a week of you. Yeah.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Well, when they get the caravan with you're in January,
- 36:03Speaker 3: that'll be the real time.
- 36:04Speaker 2: My god, that was so basic of me. Anyhow, I
- 36:08Speaker 2: love it. Yeah, it's coming, it's coming. I keep saying, well,
- 36:12Speaker 2: maybe it might be our last caravan holiday because you know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: kids are getting older and people are no our kids
- 36:16Speaker 2: wanted to camp with us until they were thirty. I thought,
- 36:19Speaker 2: it's not my kids, Oh wow.
- 36:21Speaker 4: It's you.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I've been talking for years about wanting to do a
- 36:27Speaker 1: camper van holiday with the children. But I feel like
- 36:30Speaker 1: that window has well and truly closed. Now, yeah it does, so.
- 36:34Speaker 2: You could probably take dot but I don't know about Lewis.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know about Lewis. Now we look for
- 36:39Speaker 1: like we have to get a three bedroom place because
- 36:41Speaker 1: that just we're beyond the stage where they're happy to
- 36:46Speaker 1: bunk in together.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Fair enoughs all the things you have to think about.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Hey, Katrin, have you ever done a caravan holiday? I
- 36:53Speaker 1: can't see this is something that you. Oh, when we
- 36:56Speaker 1: were kids, we did every year and we loved it.
- 36:58Speaker 3: We used to go to Blue Lagoon caravan Park, which
- 37:01Speaker 3: is up about our Bay, was the best.
- 37:03Speaker 1: You're thinking of Bookshields, aren't you? Straight up? Blue Lagoon
- 37:06Speaker 1: not the same. It was unreal.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I really miss it. Actually, we're the greatest summers doing that.
- 37:12Speaker 3: But no, I haven't done it in a long time,
- 37:14Speaker 3: but not against it.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I remember in the early stages of VCRs my friend
- 37:19Speaker 1: had a Blue Lagoon on on VCR and this we
- 37:23Speaker 1: must mean we must have been in about year nine
- 37:26Speaker 1: or year ten or something, and we spent a long
- 37:28Speaker 1: time trying to pause on when they're going down the
- 37:32Speaker 1: water slide together to see if we could get a
- 37:33Speaker 1: shot of Christopher Atkins penis and we thought it was
- 37:36Speaker 1: the funniest thing anyone had ever done. And it takes
- 37:40Speaker 1: some skill to pause the DVD does sorry a VHS
- 37:44Speaker 1: at a single game and look it was it was
- 37:49Speaker 1: a little bit of a blue And then I've obviously
- 37:51Speaker 1: we ran out of attention for it long before we
- 37:54Speaker 1: managed to get the technical skills rob but we got
- 37:56Speaker 1: I think the closest frame we could get.
- 37:57Speaker 3: And it's like, oh, so we didn't have the invisible
- 38:01Speaker 3: you know, jocks on or whatever they do.
- 38:03Speaker 1: There was actual I don't know is the thing that
- 38:06Speaker 1: it wasn't such high definition video? Then, Man, this podcast
- 38:11Speaker 1: has taken a strange turn, hasn't it. No, But I'm
- 38:14Speaker 1: here for it.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I'm going to check out what sort of quality that
- 38:17Speaker 3: the updates they've done now hoble.
- 38:20Speaker 1: But speaking of handsome young men, what about Robert Irwin
- 38:24Speaker 1: winning Dancing with.
- 38:26Speaker 2: The Sunshine Coast Slightning's very own Robert Irwin. Yes, yes,
- 38:29Speaker 2: I think is how he likes to introduce it. Netpal's
- 38:32Speaker 2: own Robert Irwin.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I feel like he's going to be the president of
- 38:36Speaker 1: Australia soon.
- 38:38Speaker 3: He will be the president of the US at this
- 38:40Speaker 3: rate far out. How's his sister winning it too before
- 38:44Speaker 3: him though?
- 38:45Speaker 2: Ten years ago?
- 38:46Speaker 3: Family impressive award and he was impressive. If you watched
- 38:50Speaker 3: any of it or you saw any of the clips,
- 38:52Speaker 3: he can move.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yeah, what is he twenty one or twenty two or
- 38:56Speaker 1: something like? I mean, I remember being born, which is ridiculous,
- 39:00Speaker 1: but it's like, I just think this young man seems
- 39:04Speaker 1: to have this shit together, and it's like sure, like,
- 39:06Speaker 1: you know, if we're going to become a republic and
- 39:08Speaker 1: have a president, I'm probably happier for it to be
- 39:11Speaker 1: new than most other people.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I vote for that.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Do we get to vote when we become a republic?
- 39:16Speaker 1: Well we tried and that failed, but I don't think
- 39:19Speaker 1: it's on the agenda much at the moment.
- 39:21Speaker 2: No, But do we get to vote for the president?
- 39:23Speaker 2: Or is it just someone?
- 39:24Speaker 1: This was the problem why they think that that referendum
- 39:28Speaker 1: didn't pass is that there wasn't enough clarity on what
- 39:30Speaker 1: the model is, and so people went, well, I'm going
- 39:32Speaker 1: to vote no if I don't understand it, which is
- 39:36Speaker 1: something we do. I feel like this is a great
- 39:40Speaker 1: seguey to some foolish words. Well, okay, have you got one? No,
- 39:44Speaker 1: well have you not got one? Well? You teaching how
- 39:46Speaker 1: to make yourself? I'm going to get the book out.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Oh no, I didn't need to put you under pressure.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Sorry about that, all right, foolish words, Catherine, I have
- 39:53Speaker 1: gone to the gone to our resource, which is foolish words,
- 39:57Speaker 1: the most stupid words ever spoken. This this tradition will
- 40:01Speaker 1: be retired at the end of this not durable year,
- 40:03Speaker 1: which is of course next week. Here we go. I
- 40:06Speaker 1: think this one is an entirely appropriate quote for us here.
- 40:09Speaker 1: If I look confused, it's because I'm thinking, and that
- 40:12Speaker 1: is Daniel al Man. So I feel like that's an
- 40:16Speaker 1: appropriate one.
- 40:17Speaker 4: For us today.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Yes, I agree much.
- 40:20Speaker 5: So.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I was thinking about Christmas cooking disasters, and you guys
- 40:24Speaker 1: might want to have a thing about it, whether you
- 40:26Speaker 1: have any next and tell us about it next week.
- 40:28Speaker 1: But we had a bunch of people over here one Christmas,
- 40:31Speaker 1: and it was one of those ones where people kept going,
- 40:33Speaker 1: I've got my dad in town and this person from overseas,
- 40:36Speaker 1: and so we had like twenty seven people here, half
- 40:40Speaker 1: of whom I knew before they arrived. It's like, great, yep,
- 40:43Speaker 1: bring them in more than merrier. Everyone's going to make contributions.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And my friend's father, who was very wealthy and very eccentric,
- 40:50Speaker 1: told us about a week in advance, I'm going to
- 40:52Speaker 1: send a goose and so, okay, don't really know what
- 40:57Speaker 1: to do with the goose. But anyway, this very lovely
- 40:59Speaker 1: David Jones Hamper arrived with a goose, and this was
- 41:03Speaker 1: on Christmas Eve, so we had to work out how
- 41:05Speaker 1: to cook it, and we didn't do a great job,
- 41:08Speaker 1: I've got to say, but the goose fat potatoes were sensational.
- 41:12Speaker 1: But in that I had this vision with all of
- 41:14Speaker 1: these different meats, I wanted a salad that had large
- 41:18Speaker 1: croutons in it, you know, tomatoes, basil and then red
- 41:22Speaker 1: onion and whatever. And I burnt the croutons three times.
- 41:26Speaker 1: You don't have to cook kroutons very long, but what
- 41:29Speaker 1: you do have to do is cook them before you've
- 41:31Speaker 1: been hitting the champagne for the morning. So I put
- 41:33Speaker 1: my load on and burnt them, and it's like, that's okay,
- 41:36Speaker 1: I've still got some sourday here. Put another load on immediately,
- 41:39Speaker 1: did exactly the same thing. Sort of just got distracted
- 41:42Speaker 1: and ninety seconds later turned back and went eh. And
- 41:45Speaker 1: then the third one and this was a this is
- 41:46Speaker 1: my world cup. It was my do or die moment.
- 41:49Speaker 1: It's like, you know, the croutons. The entire success of
- 41:51Speaker 1: the day is based on me being able to focus
- 41:54Speaker 1: on my oven for ninety seconds and not get distracted
- 41:58Speaker 1: and get the croutons out and happy store how much pressure, No,
- 42:03Speaker 1: I did it. I nailed it and nail rose to
- 42:05Speaker 1: the occasion. Well done you, which is probably why I
- 42:09Speaker 1: can play wing attack well wing defense.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:11Speaker 1: This is true. The whole Christmas meets thing that was
- 42:14Speaker 1: turned into a bit of a farce, isn't it. Isn't
- 42:16Speaker 1: there a tra.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Ducan and they're all morphing into the same thing, the
- 42:20Speaker 3: stuff one in the other, and it's a good time
- 42:22Speaker 3: for everybody.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Ham and prawns at our house. Hamm and prawns.
- 42:25Speaker 1: That's it, simple, Ham and prawns, delicious. I wouldn't bother
- 42:29Speaker 1: going with the goose. I was telling this story to
- 42:30Speaker 1: a guy the other day, and he said, when he
- 42:32Speaker 1: was a kid, they used to go to his grandparents
- 42:34Speaker 1: place at Wagga and when he'd arrive there would be
- 42:36Speaker 1: like a goose running around the yard like chasing the kids,
- 42:40Speaker 1: and they waited until his dad arrived it. And then
- 42:43Speaker 1: next thing said, goose hanging on the hills hoist with
- 42:47Speaker 1: all the blood draining from it. So there's so much
- 42:49Speaker 1: trauma in that story. You are being chased by this
- 42:52Speaker 1: thing and then clearly it meets its end, and then
- 42:55Speaker 1: you're being asked to eat this this this product of
- 42:59Speaker 1: your nightmare.
- 43:00Speaker 2: There hopefully not on the same day you're going to
- 43:02Speaker 2: leave things hang and sit.
- 43:03Speaker 1: For you do have to leave things to hang for
- 43:05Speaker 1: quite a bit. I think Liz Ellis.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Does even name them so that you know everybody's well
- 43:10Speaker 3: aware where they're going to end up, don't you with
- 43:12Speaker 3: your pigs. Wasn't that Christmas lunch? We had Christmas one
- 43:16Speaker 3: and lunch was the other. They know what's coming, Yeah.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So don't get attached to them kids, is that I do?
- 43:24Speaker 2: But just know that they'll be tasty.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I admire that. I love eating meat, don't love knowing
- 43:32Speaker 1: where it came from.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Well, it actually makes you a bit more respectful of
- 43:36Speaker 2: the meat, and you don't waste it because you know
- 43:38Speaker 2: that an animal that was living in your farm lost
- 43:42Speaker 2: its life to feed you. So we are very respectful
- 43:44Speaker 2: of our meat.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Do you have the Queensland public education system in the
- 43:48Speaker 1: eighties though, when I was in year six, we went
- 43:49Speaker 1: on an excursion to an abatoir.
- 43:52Speaker 3: No, how many vegetarians coming back on that bus.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Was before that invented, you know. It was just the
- 44:00Speaker 1: carpark and ate our ham sandwiches. Everyone thought it was great.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Wow. Can you imagine? Yeah, you would not like that,
- 44:06Speaker 2: would not get past that, It would.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Not It would not be floated today, not by any means.
- 44:10Speaker 1: And I don't think there was any like. It wasn't
- 44:12Speaker 1: a kind of animal welfare message or sustainability. Someone's dad
- 44:16Speaker 1: worked there. Oh, I read to the abatra.
- 44:22Speaker 2: It's not a bad thing though, for kids to see
- 44:24Speaker 2: the food chain and understand things.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well I think that cheer note cheery enough, Katherine.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to having you back in studio next
- 44:35Speaker 1: week and we will do some wrapping afterwards, and not
- 44:38Speaker 1: of the variety of the I'm down for that as well.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be good.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Would your wife hang up my bumblebee? Yeah? Yeah, true?
- 44:47Speaker 1: Well yes, so I've I've kept a single decoration for
- 44:52Speaker 1: Catherine to hang on my Christmas tree. Per her request,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and in his buzzy Bee, which is a joss very familiar.
- 44:58Speaker 4: To key we kids.
- 45:00Speaker 1: So I've got a little one that I bought in
- 45:02Speaker 1: New Zealand, and I thought, given both of our birthplaces,
- 45:04Speaker 1: that that would be an appropriate one for you. And
- 45:07Speaker 1: I'd also like to hang out with Snoop when I come.
- 45:10Speaker 1: All right, well, we'll see Snoop might have had another
- 45:12Speaker 1: big night. We'll find him. He can come and have
- 45:14Speaker 1: a bubbles with us after. Very good. All right, jugglers,
- 45:18Speaker 1: hope you have a great week. I'm Carolyn Swindel, I'm Cafcox.
- 45:21Speaker 2: I'm liz Ella Spye.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Bye bye,
