- 3:39Speaker 1: glad in it no matter what. Well, today I have
- 3:45Speaker 1: an awesome guest and she is part of the DAG Awards,
- 3:53Speaker 1: and with no further delays, will go ahead and bring
- 4:00Speaker 1: my guests on.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Hell, I'm so excited to see you.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I'm so excited to see you. It's my mic clear.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yes, you are perfectly clear, and I know your first
- 4:17Speaker 1: name is Bobby, but I did not want to butcher
- 4:20Speaker 1: your last name, So if you could give me the
- 4:22Speaker 1: correct pronunciation for your last name, please.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Stretching, stretching, stretching.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Bobby, Thank you so much.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And I see that you are an author, you have
- 4:38Speaker 1: your nonprofit organization, and you seem like you're just.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Doing so much.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Why don't we go ahead and introduce yourself and let
- 4:47Speaker 1: the audience know exactly about your book and the things
- 4:52Speaker 1: that you are are currently doing.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Well, I guess you say, my name is Bobby. Stretching,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and I am a first time author. It took me
- 5:04Speaker 2: some years to accomplish the task. And I got to
- 5:08Speaker 2: tell you, I didn't do it on my own. Everything
- 5:11Speaker 2: was orchestrated by God. I am a career professional woman.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I'm an LPN.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I've been the.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Executive administrator of a five to one C three company
- 5:25Speaker 2: for about twenty one years. I've done a little bit
- 5:31Speaker 2: of everything, from managing travel services for a bus line,
- 5:37Speaker 2: a limousine service.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I've ran.
- 5:42Speaker 2: A nonprofit after school program.
- 5:47Speaker 3: A lot of things.
- 5:48Speaker 2: But what I would say is that what I've learned
- 5:52Speaker 2: over my experiences in my professional career is that you
- 5:56Speaker 2: don't ever want to lose sight of yourself, no matter
- 6:00Speaker 2: what your profession is. So I'm here today with you
- 6:06Speaker 2: because of an amazing opportunity through the through the Distinguished
- 6:11Speaker 2: Authors Guild. You know they they open up this doorway
- 6:15Speaker 2: to meet you. And I am so grateful for this opportunity.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yes, I had a chance to meet doctor Carolyn, and
- 6:26Speaker 1: oh she's.
- 6:26Speaker 3: The awesome woman of God. We u not too long ago.
- 6:30Speaker 3: We spent like forever on the phone.
- 6:34Speaker 1: It's amazing what connections will bring you to someone. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: and then you get a chance to meet such great
- 6:44Speaker 1: and awesome people through uh, just one one open door
- 6:49Speaker 1: and so which led me here sitting with you, and
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm really excited about it.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Can you go ahead and give us the name of
- 6:59Speaker 3: your book.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yes, the name of my book is Walking on the
- 7:04Speaker 2: Streets of Gold. It is the story of my mother.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So the title walking on Streets of Gold, Bessie the
- 7:15Speaker 2: Voice of an Overcomer is the story that's given in
- 7:19Speaker 2: the vernacular of my mother. So what I'm sharing in
- 7:24Speaker 2: this book, although it is a part of my inheritance,
- 7:28Speaker 2: is mainly focused on her voice.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Okay, that's Oh, that's awesome. That's awesome to write.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And if you can kind of just give us a
- 7:40Speaker 1: general idea of even though you wrote the book journaling
- 7:43Speaker 1: in your mother's voice, is it a book about her
- 7:48Speaker 1: life or just some challenges that she's gone through. Give
- 7:53Speaker 1: us the narrative of pretty much what the book is
- 7:55Speaker 1: about that that's in your mother's you know, voice.
- 7:59Speaker 2: In my mother voice. You will hear a lot of
- 8:02Speaker 2: the challenges that she experienced, such as going through racism
- 8:08Speaker 2: and even going through racism within her own race. It
- 8:15Speaker 2: deals with mental challenges that she faced. She was born
- 8:22Speaker 2: in the nineteen forties, so you see the progression of
- 8:26Speaker 2: even the culture that she lived in.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Also speaking to.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Her faith, it talks about things that normally we wouldn't
- 8:36Speaker 2: want to bring out in the open.
- 8:38Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:39Speaker 2: These are internal experiences and even traumas that she dealt
- 8:44Speaker 2: with that she wasn't able to really express openly. So
- 8:48Speaker 2: in this book, in her vernacular, she reveals those things
- 8:53Speaker 2: she wished that she had the opportunity to speak openly
- 8:57Speaker 2: about in her own words instead of it being narrated
- 9:02Speaker 2: for her.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Oh that's good, because we know, you know, even within
- 9:09Speaker 1: my own family, dealing with like my grandparents and various
- 9:14Speaker 1: different things, a lot of things you just couldn't talk
- 9:16Speaker 1: about out in the open.
- 9:19Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Back then everything was kind of like hush, hush. You know,
- 9:23Speaker 1: what goes in the family stays in the family, you know.
- 9:27Speaker 1: You know, then on top of that, if you're being
- 9:29Speaker 1: a woman, you know, sometimes you know, there wasn't always
- 9:33Speaker 1: a platform or a voice for a lot of women
- 9:37Speaker 1: around that around that time, and you know, and just
- 9:40Speaker 1: also you know, being an African American period, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and I'm sure in that time there was so much
- 9:47Speaker 1: of the world that were on their shoulders back then,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you know, the things that they had to face and
- 9:55Speaker 1: the challenges that they had to face. And so I
- 9:58Speaker 1: think this is that's awesome that you're able to write
- 10:01Speaker 1: a book in your mother's voice. So it's basically she
- 10:05Speaker 1: may not have been able to come forth with some
- 10:08Speaker 1: of those things, but you ask her daughter, you're able
- 10:12Speaker 1: to speak on her behalf and make sure that her
- 10:16Speaker 1: voice is heard, which is very powerful, you know, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: legacy and things that we go through and things that
- 10:25Speaker 1: we learned along the way doesn't have to stop with us,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you know, it can carry on, and you wrote something
- 10:33Speaker 1: that will carry on for generations to generations to come.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You know, if anybody did not get a chance to
- 10:41Speaker 1: ask her these questions in the family, you wrote something
- 10:45Speaker 1: that people in the family could kind of get to
- 10:49Speaker 1: know a little bit more about her, things that she
- 10:51Speaker 1: may or may not have shared. You know, now they
- 10:54Speaker 1: know more of her through you, and what better way
- 10:58Speaker 1: is through through.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Her daughter, right by right, you know.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It's written with love and care and you know, and
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm sure very careful with some of the things that
- 11:11Speaker 1: you say and how your mother's voice was portrayed.
- 11:14Speaker 3: And so with that was that is awesome.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Now tell us a little bit about the journey and
- 11:22Speaker 1: being nominated for the Distinguished Author's Guild Award, if you
- 11:26Speaker 1: could give me a little bit about that.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Well, first of all, when when when the opportunity came
- 11:34Speaker 2: to write the book. Doctor Carolyn was involved, Doctor Barbara
- 11:39Speaker 2: Whitehead of Kingdom Publications was involved. I had a sister,
- 11:45Speaker 2: Joyce Malone, who paid it very pivotal part in doing this,
- 11:50Speaker 2: because the book began before my mother passed. We would
- 11:55Speaker 2: we would have these conversations and she would say, these
- 11:58Speaker 2: are things that I want to have heard. I want
- 12:01Speaker 2: my voice to to say what happened to me and
- 12:05Speaker 2: what God did for me. Right, I don't want to
- 12:09Speaker 2: live in the shadows anymore.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I want my voice to be.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Heard and God to be glorified. So doctor Carolyn, doctor
- 12:18Speaker 2: Barbara Whitehead, they played that role in getting the book together,
- 12:22Speaker 2: all right. So when I brought it to them, I
- 12:26Speaker 2: did not even have the financial viking to do it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I did not.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Have the knowledge of how to write a book. It's
- 12:35Speaker 2: the first time. And so they, being a part of
- 12:40Speaker 2: the Distinguished gil Authors guilt, they mentored me, coached me,
- 12:46Speaker 2: and then the next thing I know, I was in
- 12:48Speaker 2: a actual discipleship class with doctor Whitehead, and she brought
- 12:53Speaker 2: the book in and put it on the table, and
- 12:57Speaker 2: it was so overwhelming because it was us, my mother,
- 13:01Speaker 2: you know, it was the book with her voice. She
- 13:05Speaker 2: didn't have a lot of education. So the book, while
- 13:10Speaker 2: it could have been written to say in a better grammar,
- 13:15Speaker 2: I wanted to protect this is how she spoke. This
- 13:18Speaker 2: is how she actually said it. So when doctor Carolyn
- 13:23Speaker 2: you know them, contacted me and they say, hey, now
- 13:27Speaker 2: the book not only is overwhelming to me because it's published,
- 13:30Speaker 2: it's real. It's in my hand. She's calling me saying,
- 13:34Speaker 2: your book has been nominated for an award, and I'm speechless.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I don't have words because this wasn't even a part
- 13:43Speaker 2: of it.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I was.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I considered it a success having the book printed. Now
- 13:50Speaker 2: it's out. Her voice is being heard, which was her dream.
- 13:54Speaker 2: But to be a part of this community of the
- 13:58Speaker 2: Distinguished Author's gil is amazing. I've grown so much just
- 14:05Speaker 2: being able to interact with the other authors, to hear
- 14:08Speaker 2: their story, their journals, their insight, their I mean, I'm
- 14:13Speaker 2: telling you that the guild, the guild itself is empowering.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So I was nominated, and then things began to happen,
- 14:24Speaker 2: doors began to open. I'm seeing my mother's voice in
- 14:28Speaker 2: the platform and in the arena, not only in our
- 14:32Speaker 2: little state of Georgia where we live, but it's all
- 14:37Speaker 2: the way up in Chicago, Illinois, it's down in Florida,
- 14:41Speaker 2: it's over in Alabama. It is amazing to be a
- 14:45Speaker 2: part of the Distinguished Author's Guild.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I cannot say that it is just about winning an award.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It really increases our capacity as authors with the story
- 15:00Speaker 2: to tail, to tell it effectively, efficiently, and to grow to.
- 15:05Speaker 3: That next book.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yes, I was just about to say so when the
- 15:09Speaker 1: next one coming, But you know what, I'm just learning
- 15:18Speaker 1: more about the Distinguished Author's Deal. But I spoke with
- 15:23Speaker 1: another nominee and so, and also speaking with you, and
- 15:29Speaker 1: just learning more about the awards and doctor Carolyn, and
- 15:33Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to meet doctor Whitehead yet.
- 15:36Speaker 3: But just learning through you, through your voices.
- 15:41Speaker 1: It really sounds like a beautiful community, a beautiful family,
- 15:46Speaker 1: a community. And look how God blessed you. And you
- 15:49Speaker 1: said you didn't have the financial means to do it,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but it happened, right, And so that's that's.
- 15:58Speaker 3: The beautiful thing, you know, is.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Sometimes when we just step out and we just step
- 16:03Speaker 1: out on obedience and we just step out. You know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: it's amazing what God will do when we just take
- 16:09Speaker 1: that that little beatty step right, faith of a mustard seed, right,
- 16:14Speaker 1: so you know, just to take that eightie beatty little
- 16:16Speaker 1: step forward, and then He just takes over and says,
- 16:20Speaker 1: don't worry, daughter, I make sure I have everybody in place.
- 16:24Speaker 3: To make sure that that.
- 16:27Speaker 1: This goes for that this happens, you know, and all
- 16:31Speaker 1: because of yours, your resilience and pushing pass through and
- 16:37Speaker 1: not looking at the circumstance right and in itself and
- 16:41Speaker 1: just saying, hey, I want to get this out. And
- 16:44Speaker 1: so that's amazing, you know, and that that teaches you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and you know anybody else out there, you know, and
- 16:52Speaker 1: Bobby is a perfect example on just stepping out on
- 16:56Speaker 1: faith right. And and we have dreams and we have
- 17:00Speaker 1: and we have things that we want to accomplish in life,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and sometimes it just takes just that faith of a
- 17:07Speaker 1: mustard seed to just step out there and get it
- 17:11Speaker 1: and get it done. And God will place if he
- 17:14Speaker 1: wants that to say, if he wants it to happen.
- 17:16Speaker 1: God will put everything in place, he said. He added rich,
- 17:20Speaker 1: He make it rich, and added no sorrow. So he
- 17:23Speaker 1: made sure that everything was there for you. And I'm
- 17:26Speaker 1: that's a great testimony, you know, to making sure that
- 17:31Speaker 1: we're obedient and just getting out there and doing what
- 17:34Speaker 1: we need to do.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Now, tell me a little bit or a lot of bit, whichever.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Way about your your organization.
- 17:46Speaker 2: My organization is just for me. Wellness just for me.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Wellness really came out of out of me doing other
- 17:56Speaker 2: things for other organizations and other people. I wrote a
- 18:02Speaker 2: five oh one c three for an organization. And in
- 18:08Speaker 2: the midst of writing that one, which was something I'd
- 18:11Speaker 2: never done, it was my first time. I had no
- 18:14Speaker 2: I had no training any of that stuff. And but
- 18:18Speaker 2: I will say this, I had an amazing pastor. I
- 18:23Speaker 2: had a pastor who had vision apostle apostle Isaiah Rebels
- 18:31Speaker 2: at that time. He taught me this. He had a
- 18:34Speaker 2: saying he said, God did not save you to be stupid.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, I didn't save you to be stupid.
- 18:44Speaker 2: He he instilled into me that God was intelligent and
- 18:50Speaker 2: that when he puts a gift in you, then it's
- 18:54Speaker 2: his job to bring it to fruition. So there were
- 18:59Speaker 2: a lot of things means that I was doing that
- 19:03Speaker 2: I'd never done and at times was fearful to try
- 19:08Speaker 2: to do. But he would say things to me like
- 19:11Speaker 2: do this, and I'm like, I'm not supposed to do it,
- 19:16Speaker 2: but relying on faith and also not only faith, but
- 19:19Speaker 2: God brings connections, divine connections. So for my organization Just
- 19:27Speaker 2: for Me Wellness, it stims from a faith and an
- 19:32Speaker 2: impartation from a visionary who said God created you to
- 19:37Speaker 2: do great things. God created you to bring about platforms
- 19:44Speaker 2: and to bring about connections yourself for other people. So
- 19:50Speaker 2: after writing the five O one C three for another organization,
- 19:54Speaker 2: and as time passed, I you know, I shifted from
- 19:58Speaker 2: being there to doing something thing different. And I had
- 20:02Speaker 2: the concept for just for Me Wellness, but I did
- 20:05Speaker 2: not have the commitment to do it for me. I
- 20:10Speaker 2: was doing it for somebody else to do it for me.
- 20:15Speaker 2: So that's where the title comes in, Just for Me Wellness,
- 20:23Speaker 2: so that the gift that I have won't just be
- 20:26Speaker 2: used for others, It's used for me. So it's holistic.
- 20:31Speaker 2: It deals with teaching people to be self advocate of
- 20:37Speaker 2: their wealth, mentally, physically, emotionally. You know, Just for Me
- 20:46Speaker 2: does workshops. We just finished doing a seminar down in Moultrie, Georgia,
- 20:54Speaker 2: our Mental Health Awareness series, and it was amazing. We
- 20:59Speaker 2: bringing in such a way that people can use the
- 21:02Speaker 2: information right, take it away from the event and actually
- 21:07Speaker 2: implement it understanding that you're doing this just for you.
- 21:12Speaker 2: One example is a lot of times when we go
- 21:15Speaker 2: to the doctor, it's difficult to be open. We go
- 21:20Speaker 2: in and sometimes you know it's only going to be
- 21:22Speaker 2: about five ten, maybe fifteen minutes.
- 21:25Speaker 3: If it's something very serious.
- 21:27Speaker 2: That they'll talk to you, but to be prepared to
- 21:30Speaker 2: go into it, we need some support. So Just for
- 21:34Speaker 2: Me Wellness comes alongside of individuals and help them advocate
- 21:39Speaker 2: for themselves. To understand disappointment is just for me. I've
- 21:43Speaker 2: got to go in here and I've got to advocate
- 21:45Speaker 2: for my symptoms and all of the things that I'm
- 21:49Speaker 2: feeling right now, so that I can explain to the
- 21:52Speaker 2: doctor how I'm feeling, what am I dealing with. Sometimes
- 21:56Speaker 2: we get in there, we get a question that says, well,
- 21:58Speaker 2: when did the pain start? I don't know, man, Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 2: if it's been a long time. Sometimes that's a little
- 22:08Speaker 2: bit of of shame. But I don't want to tell
- 22:11Speaker 2: them that it's.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Been going on two weeks.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I just say I think it's study yesterday.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Actually, all this information is important when we're self advocating.
- 22:22Speaker 2: So just for me wellness, it's focused on helping individuals
- 22:29Speaker 2: be advocates of their own lives and whatever avenue it
- 22:34Speaker 2: is in, including business. Like I said, I write five
- 22:38Speaker 2: oh one c threes, I do nonprofit consulting, just a
- 22:43Speaker 2: lot of things.
- 22:44Speaker 3: In that area under the umbrella of.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Just wow, you said a whole I mean that was
- 22:53Speaker 1: that was that was good, That was a whole lot
- 22:56Speaker 1: in their first I wanted to piggyback on isn't it
- 23:00Speaker 1: wonderful to make sure you're under a leader that.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Has a vision?
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yes?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yes, I think that's that's so important, you know, because
- 23:13Speaker 1: when a leader has vision, it trickles down to the
- 23:18Speaker 1: sheep and it helps the sheep thrive and also have
- 23:23Speaker 1: a vision, you know. So you know they always said
- 23:26Speaker 1: it starts with the head and then it trickles down.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You can't teach somebody to have a vision and push
- 23:34Speaker 1: them to have a vision.
- 23:35Speaker 3: If you don't have a vision yourself.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Right, And so I think that's really important, and that's
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's great that you were able to have that foundation
- 23:45Speaker 1: to get you going.
- 23:47Speaker 3: You know.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I like that guy didn't make you to be stupid,
- 23:51Speaker 1: and that is so true because he's not. You know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: we're making the likeness the image to be on so
- 23:57Speaker 1: he's nowhere near stupid.
- 23:59Speaker 3: So neither are.
- 24:00Speaker 1: But we have to just do the necessary steps, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 1: to make sure that that we thrive and that we're
- 24:08Speaker 1: getting and that we're doing and we're just not sitting
- 24:10Speaker 1: here like lumps on a log with all this wonderful talent,
- 24:14Speaker 1: all this information, right, and then we just sit on it.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I think that even does a disservice from God, because
- 24:22Speaker 1: he wants to bring glory through us, yes.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And so people can look at you and see and
- 24:29Speaker 3: see him, right.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So I think that's that's very that's very important. And
- 24:34Speaker 1: I love how you said your organization it teaches you.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I was reading your bio and there was the key
- 24:43Speaker 1: phrase that stuck in this. You teach people how to
- 24:45Speaker 1: basically invest, you know, learning how to And I.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Said, ooh, I love that.
- 24:52Speaker 1: You know, and a lot of people you don't look
- 24:54Speaker 1: at it sometimes.
- 24:56Speaker 3: That you know, you know, taking care of your know.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And being, like you said, being an advocate for yourself.
- 25:04Speaker 1: You know, you're investing in yourself. You're pouring into yourself
- 25:08Speaker 1: because what you pour in is is what you're gonna eventually.
- 25:13Speaker 3: The world is gonna see. So if you're not.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Pouring in anything there, everybody's gonna see eventually from the
- 25:20Speaker 1: inside out the bad health because sometimes it eventually shows
- 25:25Speaker 1: on the outside if you don't take care of the inside.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And I said, ooh, I love that that spoke to me,
- 25:33Speaker 1: right because I'm a I'm a mover and the shaker.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'm go go, go, go go, you know, businesses, mother, grandmother,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you know, wife, you know, and have my hands with
- 25:44Speaker 1: so many things. But yet I always end up putting
- 25:48Speaker 1: me on the back burner, right because hello, doctor Carolyn.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Held doctor Carolyn.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I thought to me and all of my podcast sisters
- 26:03Speaker 1: that are on, and hey you, thank you, thank you
- 26:06Speaker 1: for showing you, thank you for leading me to this,
- 26:10Speaker 1: this awesome opportunity, an awesome person here, Bobby, And I'm
- 26:14Speaker 1: learning sometimes it's just the small things. Sometimes you don't
- 26:17Speaker 1: have to preach to people. Sometimes it's just the small things.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And if you're a stay in the mindset that I'm
- 26:27Speaker 1: going to get something out of this. Yes, you know,
- 26:31Speaker 1: if he's stay in that mindset, you'd be surprised at
- 26:34Speaker 1: how many gems and nuggets that you can pick up
- 26:37Speaker 1: along the way, you know. And so just by you
- 26:43Speaker 1: saying what you said, you know, it's kind of like, oh,
- 26:45Speaker 1: oh the condition can you know, like, oh, now you know.
- 26:47Speaker 3: You need to Hey you didn't you didn't crack the whip.
- 26:53Speaker 3: You just nice said you're nice thought boys, you.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Know, And I'm like, oh, yeah, she's she's traveling down
- 26:59Speaker 1: my lane right now. So so your organization is well
- 27:06Speaker 1: needed because I believe, you know, especially in the Body
- 27:09Speaker 1: of Christ, sometimes we even focus more on our spiritual
- 27:13Speaker 1: growth than and we neglect our natural And you know,
- 27:18Speaker 1: there's a reason why God made us both blessed and
- 27:23Speaker 1: you know in spirit. Right, So this is blessed every day,
- 27:28Speaker 1: believe it or not.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Whether we want to believe it or not. It's dying,
- 27:33Speaker 3: you know, but there are things that.
- 27:36Speaker 1: We can do to help us prolonged life.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Absolutely, you know.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Just like we don't want to be spiritually dead, we
- 27:46Speaker 1: don't want to be spiritually empty. It's very important that
- 27:51Speaker 1: we're also like he said, invest invest in ourselves, and
- 27:55Speaker 1: so that is that is great. What are some of
- 27:59Speaker 1: the key factors that you would let people know, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and I know you're you said, even going into the
- 28:08Speaker 1: doctor's office and basically learning how to basically open up
- 28:12Speaker 1: your mouth. Like you said, sometimes we let things go
- 28:14Speaker 1: on and there could be a little bit shame or
- 28:18Speaker 1: whatever it is. What are some key things that you
- 28:22Speaker 1: would tell people who like me, you.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Know who who's on the go.
- 28:28Speaker 1: All the time, right and it rarely slows down to
- 28:33Speaker 1: you know, check on things. And sometimes we see sentences
- 28:36Speaker 1: and we go, oh, I'll put it, I'll deal with
- 28:38Speaker 1: it later.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I'll deal with it later.
- 28:41Speaker 1: What would you tell someone that you kind of saw
- 28:44Speaker 1: on that particular path and you notice something and you say, hey,
- 28:49Speaker 1: you know, whatever it is, you need to slow down.
- 28:51Speaker 1: What what would you help that individual? What would you
- 28:55Speaker 1: tell them?
- 28:56Speaker 2: I would I would tell them that. Going back to mother,
- 29:01Speaker 2: who is the voice of an overcomer. My mother was
- 29:04Speaker 2: a strong woman. She came up during that period of
- 29:07Speaker 2: where women would have babies and in the morning time
- 29:12Speaker 2: and be back out in the fields working in the
- 29:16Speaker 2: afternoon time. That's crazy, but that's how it was, and
- 29:20Speaker 2: so I remember her story telling me she said, your
- 29:23Speaker 2: body talks to you, and if you'll listen to it,
- 29:28Speaker 2: then y'all will get along. But if your body talks
- 29:31Speaker 2: to you and you want to, you know, disregard it,
- 29:35Speaker 2: then your body will say, Okay, well, I have to
- 29:37Speaker 2: do what I have to do myself. One of the
- 29:41Speaker 2: things that I would share with you all is that
- 29:44Speaker 2: when I was taking on so much, I had all
- 29:48Speaker 2: these roles nursing and being an executive director. I was
- 29:55Speaker 2: doing a whole lot of professional work and ministry work,
- 30:00Speaker 2: and going to work one morning my body was telling me, no,
- 30:06Speaker 2: you just need to stop. You can't work like this
- 30:09Speaker 2: all the time. But the symptoms that I had, I'm tired,
- 30:13Speaker 2: I'm sleepy. My appetite is not not right because I'm
- 30:19Speaker 2: eating when I eat what I ain't supposed to eat.
- 30:21Speaker 2: And that's that's resonating with someone at night too. And
- 30:25Speaker 2: then there's that stress factor where where we begin to
- 30:30Speaker 2: absorb things. We're absorbing our responsibilities and others without really
- 30:38Speaker 2: recognizing that this is not helping. You're not helping. When
- 30:42Speaker 2: you think that you're wearing a whole lot of hats,
- 30:46Speaker 2: you're not helping yourself with that.
- 30:48Speaker 3: So for the.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Person who is you know you've got it on your
- 30:53Speaker 2: shoulders that you've got at least three things that you
- 30:57Speaker 2: have to deal with every day, and none of them
- 31:00Speaker 2: have to do with you being able to sit down
- 31:03Speaker 2: and eat a meal without worrying about what those things
- 31:07Speaker 2: three things are. When you can't get ready to go
- 31:10Speaker 2: to bed and you can't stop thinking about what those
- 31:12Speaker 2: three things are, you're doing way too much. You're not
- 31:16Speaker 2: investing in yourself. That's on the spiritual level as well
- 31:20Speaker 2: as a physical level. We can't do that. That ain't
- 31:23Speaker 2: even God designed for us to be. So I had
- 31:28Speaker 2: a stroke some years ago, and I think at that
- 31:32Speaker 2: time I was holding down too full time job.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I was.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Nursing and working in the darky kind of school system
- 31:41Speaker 2: and at my church, and.
- 31:45Speaker 3: I did not invest in me.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I always put me a little bit back. I mean,
- 31:49Speaker 2: I can eat later. I don't have to eat right now.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I've got to be the.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Church at a certain time.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So it doesn't matter if I just got off from
- 31:57Speaker 2: work and I'm gonna hurry on to the church. It
- 31:59Speaker 2: doesn't matter if I got out of church late, and no,
- 32:03Speaker 2: I did not take time to sit down and enjoy
- 32:06Speaker 2: the food. I ate it fast because you know, I
- 32:09Speaker 2: gotta go to sleep, and then there's just stuff. So
- 32:13Speaker 2: listen to me. Invest in yourself, learn that your voice matters.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Part of my mother's book stemmed from her doing so
- 32:23Speaker 2: many things and then having people speak about what she
- 32:28Speaker 2: felt she was doing for others wasn't good enough, It
- 32:32Speaker 2: wasn't ever just right. You needed to give more, you
- 32:35Speaker 2: needed to act a certain way, you needed to be
- 32:38Speaker 2: a certain way, or you felt rejected or you felt
- 32:43Speaker 2: self condemnation. Okay, all of those things are not from God,
- 32:51Speaker 2: none of them.
- 32:52Speaker 3: None of them are.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So first of all, you have to invest in yourself
- 32:57Speaker 2: by learning to do a self assess Now, yes, a
- 33:01Speaker 2: self assessment where you make an appointment for yourself that
- 33:06Speaker 2: you're gonna check and see how are you doing.
- 33:11Speaker 3: And sometimes it's like, oh, that's gonna be a waste
- 33:13Speaker 3: of time.
- 33:14Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 33:14Speaker 3: You need to stop.
- 33:16Speaker 2: You need you need to whenever you can pull yourself
- 33:19Speaker 2: to the side and say how are you feeling? Are
- 33:22Speaker 2: your legs swollen? Or check your feet?
- 33:25Speaker 3: How they doing?
- 33:26Speaker 2: Oh this headache exactly? You just thought about I had it?
- 33:30Speaker 2: How long have I had this headache. I'm always popping
- 33:33Speaker 2: some til and all, what's up with that? Assess yourself,
- 33:38Speaker 2: how's your weight?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Have you gained weight all of a sudden lost a
- 33:43Speaker 3: lot of weight.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Sometimes it is getting in the mirror, hurrying up, you know,
- 33:48Speaker 2: getting ready to oout, but not getting in the mirror
- 33:51Speaker 2: and just saying, let me check. Do I have any
- 33:54Speaker 2: discolorations or some swellings. I haven't noticed in a while?
- 33:58Speaker 2: I mean noticed that, you know, my fingers state that
- 34:02Speaker 2: the colors aren't right. That's part of a self assessment.
- 34:06Speaker 3: And I wasn't going.
- 34:07Speaker 2: But I think you get the the person would get.
- 34:10Speaker 2: The general impression of making is that to invest in
- 34:15Speaker 2: yourself mean you don't look at yourself through the eyes
- 34:18Speaker 2: of other people.
- 34:19Speaker 3: You look at your the eyes of God.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Take time, even in going to church, check on yourself,
- 34:27Speaker 2: you know, to church and always hearing, Oh my God,
- 34:30Speaker 2: that was a good message, of course it was. Now
- 34:33Speaker 2: tell yourself what was so good about it?
- 34:39Speaker 3: Well? I know it was good. Yeah, what was good
- 34:42Speaker 3: about it? I mean what was good? I don't know,
- 34:45Speaker 3: but it was good. I'll be back.
- 34:47Speaker 2: You know, no, invest in yourself. If you're gonna get
- 34:53Speaker 2: up and go to church, invest in knowing what.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Did God say? What did he say? And what am
- 35:03Speaker 3: I gonna do with what he said? Did I hear?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Did I receive it?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Because there's a lot of healing that's in the word
- 35:11Speaker 2: of God. My mother learned her voice when she realized
- 35:16Speaker 2: that Jesus is the way. In other words, no matter
- 35:21Speaker 2: who's doing what, no matter who's living any kind of
- 35:26Speaker 2: way with God, it didn't matter. It mattered the relationship
- 35:30Speaker 2: between her and Jesus. Yes, you know, we we can't
- 35:34Speaker 2: get lost in going to church either. We can't go ahead, girl,
- 35:40Speaker 2: go ahead, go ahead?
- 35:42Speaker 3: Who you I mean?
- 35:44Speaker 1: You said a whole I said you you didn't walk
- 35:46Speaker 1: past my street again a couple of times?
- 35:49Speaker 3: And when? And that's how I know. That's why I say,
- 35:53Speaker 3: even though I'm.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Interviewing, I still those who I interview, I still come
- 36:00Speaker 1: in with a level of expectancy to be able to receive.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 36:08Speaker 1: You just paindpoint it to come just I think yesterday
- 36:12Speaker 1: and then today this morning, I look down and my
- 36:15Speaker 1: ankles are like this, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And so you said it are you?
- 36:21Speaker 1: And I said, oh my gosh, I can't interview over
- 36:24Speaker 1: It's time for me to go.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Maybe self investments are valuable, so we gotta look now,
- 36:35Speaker 2: are we eating too much salt?
- 36:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 36:38Speaker 2: And it'll be simple. Uh, sometimes simple changes that once
- 36:44Speaker 2: we can take time to evaluate ourselves, simple changes make
- 36:50Speaker 2: a huge difference. One of the ones is, uh, sometimes
- 36:54Speaker 2: I have I have just fought with going to sleep
- 36:57Speaker 2: because it looks like it's always something to do that
- 37:01Speaker 2: if I stayed up late trying to do it, then
- 37:04Speaker 2: I feel guilty the next day because I had to
- 37:08Speaker 2: stay up late to do it. At least I thought so.
- 37:11Speaker 2: And then now my body is like, look, we didn't
- 37:14Speaker 2: sleep for three hours. You putting a little pressure on me.
- 37:17Speaker 2: So I need some sleep. But in the day, Oh no, no, no,
- 37:21Speaker 2: I ain't gonna sleep right now because I gotta do that. No,
- 37:25Speaker 2: it's still wrong. That's your body who says I need
- 37:29Speaker 2: to go to sleep. So God is a god of wisdom,
- 37:33Speaker 2: and when we trust him and we start leaning into him,
- 37:36Speaker 2: he gives us the grace. He gives us ears to
- 37:39Speaker 2: hear him so that we can start investing in ourselves
- 37:43Speaker 2: to learn the strategy how not to stay up till
- 37:47Speaker 2: three o'clock in the morning doing all this stuff. You
- 37:51Speaker 2: swear I can't be done tomorrow and tomorrowro you got issues?
- 37:57Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 37:57Speaker 3: Got in relationships? Yes you do. And your overworking. It's
- 38:03Speaker 3: overworking because it didn't get the proper and the man
- 38:07Speaker 3: you are speaking to me.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Oh goodness, Oh wow, I'm getting all kind of whoopings
- 38:15Speaker 1: right now.
- 38:15Speaker 3: You know, let us say that. But you know what,
- 38:20Speaker 3: but you know what I love.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I love correction because correction brings about change.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Right. You know, you didn't know you were going.
- 38:30Speaker 1: To come on here and say things. And like I said,
- 38:34Speaker 1: right right right down my alley. So if anybody is
- 38:37Speaker 1: experiencing anything that she mentioned, right, he that has an ear,
- 38:44Speaker 1: let him hear right. So going far from today, let
- 38:51Speaker 1: us all viol to take better care.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Of ourselves and what comes before destruction.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And I really belie leave that, you know so I
- 39:02Speaker 1: and nothing happens just by chance, She's on here to
- 39:07Speaker 1: give us a warning to take better care of ourselves,
- 39:13Speaker 1: invest in ourselves so that we can, you know, those
- 39:19Speaker 1: of us who are actually called in leadership even even
- 39:22Speaker 1: more so. You know, because we have we have a
- 39:26Speaker 1: mandate and we have an assignment.
- 39:29Speaker 3: We all have a mandate and we all have an assignment.
- 39:31Speaker 3: You don't have to have a title. We all have a.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Mandate, we all have an assignment and we have to
- 39:38Speaker 1: be here in order to do the work. We have
- 39:41Speaker 1: to be healthy. You know, God in my tell us,
- 39:44Speaker 1: go meet somebody on the mountain. But if you can't
- 39:46Speaker 1: climb that mountain, you can't get to your assignment.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Right right.
- 39:53Speaker 1: So this was very good, very informative. But I heard
- 39:56Speaker 1: another book from you. Yes, I heard another book about
- 40:01Speaker 1: this subject. It may be in your mother's book, but
- 40:08Speaker 1: there's another book that goes more in depth. People need
- 40:13Speaker 1: this where people can't get your classes, this also needs
- 40:21Speaker 1: to be everyone needs this.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Wow.
- 40:28Speaker 1: You know everybody can't get to the classes, but a
- 40:30Speaker 1: book can get into places.
- 40:33Speaker 3: That you can't. Yes, ma'am, this is.
- 40:38Speaker 1: This is I mean, you know, and I always say,
- 40:40Speaker 1: you know, see guy what he wants you to do.
- 40:43Speaker 1: But you have so much wisdom in this and I
- 40:47Speaker 1: really think it would be a really good book to
- 40:52Speaker 1: to try to jot it down, you know, all the
- 40:56Speaker 1: all the suggestions, all the you know, every thing.
- 41:00Speaker 3: I believe it.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I believe it will be a really good book for
- 41:03Speaker 1: for for people to get on board and invest invest
- 41:07Speaker 1: in yourself. If it's not called anything, of it, but
- 41:10Speaker 1: that invest in yourself. Yeah, yeah, I really, I really
- 41:17Speaker 1: really really enjoyed this. For those I know, somem probably
- 41:20Speaker 1: came in late, and I want to make sure that
- 41:24Speaker 1: you tell them the name of your book, show them
- 41:27Speaker 1: your book again and uh so that they will know
- 41:31Speaker 1: go get this book out.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yes, my book is beginning out here, Walking on Streets

- 42:54Speaker 2: that speak to even people who are.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Dealing with.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Marriages that have been just you think, you know what,
- 43:04Speaker 2: this marriage can't be saved, and there's helping the book

- 43:31Speaker 3: you back. I really am. My my God, my God.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And I just think, I just think, I don't know
- 43:45Speaker 1: doctor Carolyn. I just you know, like I said, I've
- 43:48Speaker 1: just met her. But man, I'm loving her. She hears
- 43:52Speaker 1: so much wisdom. And I really do thank her for
- 43:55Speaker 1: leading me uh to you guys, because I've really thoroughly
- 44:02Speaker 1: enjoyed uh speaking with you and Tamika the last time
- 44:08Speaker 1: I had my show, and I've gotten so much information.
- 44:12Speaker 3: I mean, you guys are awesome people.
- 44:15Speaker 1: And and it doesn't I don't have to be right.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Next to you to know you know who you are
- 44:28Speaker 3: a lot of wisdom.
- 44:31Speaker 1: God has given you a lot of wisdom, a lot
- 44:34Speaker 1: of wisdom, and your and your wisdom needs to be
- 44:38Speaker 1: is you have a lot of wisdom.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Overflowing wisdom, divine wisdom.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, and I really I really enjoy uh and
- 44:51Speaker 1: I love talking to people who have wisdom, who has substance, you.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Know, And like I said, it's Iron Schocker and iron.
- 44:59Speaker 1: You know, sometimes we all need that extra we need
- 45:02Speaker 1: that extra push, you know. And that's that's what God
- 45:06Speaker 1: is all about, you know, strengthening your brother, right, And
- 45:10Speaker 1: so in your case, you're advocating for people, You're strengthening
- 45:16Speaker 1: them and giving them the encouragement to invest, investing your health,
- 45:21Speaker 1: investing your and yourself in a really quickly just and
- 45:27Speaker 1: what you were talking about as far as your body,
- 45:29Speaker 1: listening to your body. I had a son that was
- 45:33Speaker 1: killed in twenty twenty and mentally it took a toll
- 45:38Speaker 1: on them and I couldn't work for a while because
- 45:42Speaker 1: I had to, I had to regroup.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I took about a year off work.
- 45:46Speaker 1: But my disobedient self wanted to was looking at the money, right,
- 45:53Speaker 1: and so I was supposed to take a job with
- 45:56Speaker 1: less you know, I'm a woman. I love having my
- 45:59Speaker 1: hands and everything, and I was supposed to take a
- 46:01Speaker 1: job with less stress. But the job that I was
- 46:03Speaker 1: used to doing had you know, a lot of responsibility,
- 46:07Speaker 1: and the money was there.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Right, So I went and took this job, and I
- 46:12Speaker 3: was not ready.
- 46:15Speaker 1: And by the time that job got through with me,
- 46:18Speaker 1: I think about day two or day three, I was
- 46:23Speaker 1: ready to run up out of there. I never done it,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and I was getting ready to pack of my bag,
- 46:28Speaker 1: go to lunch and never come back.
- 46:31Speaker 3: You know. And literally I heard almost like a pop
- 46:38Speaker 3: go off in my head, and I said, Lord, okay,
- 46:42Speaker 3: I had to repent and I had to listen to
- 46:48Speaker 3: my body.
- 46:48Speaker 1: The next day, I was in somebody else's office, you know,
- 46:53Speaker 1: getting a job. And that's why how I ended up
- 46:55Speaker 1: doing security, because sometimes it doesn't require I'm used to
- 46:58Speaker 1: administrate a phone, this at me, customers, and and you know,
- 47:02Speaker 1: so I'm used to all of that, right, right, and
- 47:04Speaker 1: then mentally, if you're not there, you.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Know that that's a lot, you know.
- 47:09Speaker 1: So I was in somebody's office, still making almost about
- 47:12Speaker 1: the same amount of money. Now look at that, ye
- 47:16Speaker 1: about the same amount of money, and it was just
- 47:22Speaker 1: you know, but had I not listened to my body,
- 47:24Speaker 1: I could have walked into a desire. I would have
- 47:27Speaker 1: probably I might have been in the mental institution taking medication,
- 47:33Speaker 1: because that's how serious it was, you know. So that's
- 47:37Speaker 1: why I say your your message on knowing your body,
- 47:41Speaker 1: you know, investing yourself your wellness is so needed.
- 47:45Speaker 3: People are going through so much right now.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Oh yes, mentally, mentally and physically, and so I believe
- 47:56Speaker 1: God is also trying to get his people to invent
- 48:00Speaker 1: this just because there's a road with that.
- 48:01Speaker 3: There's some signs at the times.
- 48:03Speaker 1: That are getting ready to pass, and the investment in
- 48:06Speaker 1: yourself is going.
- 48:08Speaker 3: To Actually you're gonna need to just put it this way,
- 48:16Speaker 3: you know, if you're gonna need to. But oh my
- 48:19Speaker 3: Gods for getting closer to you know, I wish I
- 48:20Speaker 3: could talk book her.

- 49:01Speaker 1: and depend listen to what God has to say to

- 49:12Speaker 1: blessed by this, but don't just read it to read
- 49:14Speaker 1: it or read it to get something out of it
- 49:16Speaker 1: and see where we can all.
