- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening to wherever
- 0:11Speaker 1: you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where a
- 0:23Speaker 1: guest joins us. Check us, check him out on ESPN
- 0:26Speaker 1: radio with Freddie and Harry. The right times. Very favorite.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Shannon Penn. What's going on, my brother?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yes, sir. And it's funny. It's funny. When the Giants
- 0:38Speaker 2: Day Bowl news came out, I was looking at my
- 0:40Speaker 2: phone like, I wonder at what point Bo gonna hit
- 0:42Speaker 2: me up.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I let you live, man.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I let it.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Because the thing was, we were so busy, we had
- 0:47Speaker 1: to try to get something cracking over here. But what
- 0:50Speaker 1: happened with Day Bowl, I had a pretty good idea
- 0:53Speaker 1: that I knew what your feelings on the matter were. But, however, like,
- 0:58Speaker 1: y'all had that one year. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:03Speaker 2: And he did lead them to the playoffs, but what
- 1:04Speaker 2: was the overall record? What, 20, 39?
- 1:06Speaker 1: I think it's 20, 40, and 1.
- 1:10Speaker 2: 20, 39, and 1. You can't give them that extra loss. 20, 39,
- 1:13Speaker 2: and 1 or whatever it was.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You're right, my bad.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I didn't dislike Dayball. I like Dayball.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I like.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But they had to do it. Like, it was time. Like,
- 1:24Speaker 2: it was time. Everybody felt it. My man was out
- 1:27Speaker 2: here panicking, fighting for his life. This is my life.
- 1:30Speaker 2: He was fighting for his life, going in the concussion tent,
- 1:33Speaker 2: costing that boy Jackson Dart four concussion protocols now. It
- 1:37Speaker 2: was time. He was fighting, though. He was fighting for
- 1:39Speaker 2: his life.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Hold up. I need people to understand something about Shannon. Now,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I have known Shannon now for nearly 20 years. We're
- 1:46Speaker 1: at like an 18 pushing 19 at this point, right?
- 1:49Speaker 1: So I've met Shannon right around the Giants sneaking that
- 1:53Speaker 1: one Super Bowl, right? We were doing a radio show
- 1:56Speaker 1: in 08 when they snuck the Super Bowl over the Patriots,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and then they snuck that other Super Bowl. So when
- 2:01Speaker 1: we talk about the post-Coughlin Giants and how it's all
- 2:04Speaker 1: falling apart, we got to be real. If they hadn't
- 2:06Speaker 1: snuck those two Super Bowls, and look, I get it,
- 2:08Speaker 1: they Super Bowls, we'd really be talking about like 20-something
- 2:12Speaker 1: years of this, right? Like that's what we would be saying.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But anyway.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I've had the ability to delicately but somewhat playfully antagonize
- 2:22Speaker 1: Shannon for a very long time. Nothing quite like that
- 2:26Speaker 1: time when the Eagles came back from their four touchdowns
- 2:29Speaker 1: in the second half that time and Shannon's wife, who
- 2:31Speaker 1: was an Eagles fan, turned on the post-game show on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the laptop to make her watch it. Back when it
- 2:36Speaker 1: wasn't that easy to do that before the internet had
- 2:39Speaker 1: come around this place. Back when Shannon was a little
- 2:41Speaker 1: bit more hot-headed. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:46Speaker 2: It was tough times.
- 2:47Speaker 1: And I used to be able to send Shannon texts
- 2:49Speaker 1: about the Giants joking, but he knew what time it was.
- 2:53Speaker 1: We was all together, right?
- 2:54Speaker 2: You mean to tell me after every Eli Manning pick,
- 2:56Speaker 2: you would send, what's up with your boy? What's up
- 2:58Speaker 2: with your man? What's up with your man? Uh-huh.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I was helping you cope.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And you like, we.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Was all together on this one. What I learned very
- 3:06Speaker 1: quickly though was this year, Jackson Dart made Shannon feel
- 3:11Speaker 1: something on the inside that he ain't know he can
- 3:13Speaker 1: feel no more, right? This white dude out here thinking
- 3:17Speaker 1: like he's shooting dice, right? He the C-Lo champ of Kaysville, Utah.
- 3:22Speaker 1: He got Shannon charged up. I can't imagine how mad
- 3:24Speaker 1: you were at Brian Day Ball messing with your new homeboy.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And you know what this is? I'm glad you made
- 3:29Speaker 2: that point about how hot-headed I used to be and
- 3:31Speaker 2: where I am now. You know what? This is growth
- 3:34Speaker 2: for you, boy. This is growth. And I want to
- 3:36Speaker 2: take this time, this opportunity right now to formally apologize
- 3:40Speaker 2: to Jackson Dart. I'm sorry, Jackson. I was unfamiliar with
- 3:43Speaker 2: your game on and off the field. My bad, man.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I was in my field. I wanted the Giants to
- 3:49Speaker 2: draft the black quarterback. That was on me. I wasn't
- 3:52Speaker 2: aware of how you get down and how you got down.
- 3:54Speaker 2: My apologies, my man. Like, taking care of business on
- 3:57Speaker 2: the field, but more importantly, bringing that bringing the aura,
- 4:01Speaker 2: whatever the kids use now, on the feet. Obviously with
- 4:04Speaker 2: Scatterball as well. My man, Roland Dice, doing the whole
- 4:07Speaker 2: celebration thing. I was unfamiliar. My bad, man. That's on me.
- 4:12Speaker 2: From one G to another now. My bad, Jay.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yo, did you see Malik Neighbors put on Instagram, like,
- 4:17Speaker 1: this joint about Jackson Dart? It's like Jackson Dart's in
- 4:20Speaker 1: his parents' house, and he's talking all prim and proper.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And then the second he gets out the door, he's like, yo,
- 4:24Speaker 1: what's up, brothers? You know what I'm saying? Like, I...
- 4:28Speaker 1: There are so many questions, right, that I have there.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I would love to know how much Jackson Dart hates
- 4:34Speaker 1: Zach Wilson. Like, you remember Utah's old Zach Wilson when
- 4:37Speaker 1: he was at the draft and the brothers was all
- 4:40Speaker 1: doing all they dap and everything else, and Jackson Dart
- 4:42Speaker 1: looked like he was in the middle of gang crossfire.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm not Jackson. I'm Jack Wilson. Zach Wilson, my bad.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He was out there like, oh, what am I supposed
- 4:50Speaker 1: to do? Jackson Dart would have been in there like, yo.
- 4:52Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Hold on. On the blackhead side now. Yeah, there we go,
- 4:57Speaker 1: big dog.
- 4:59Speaker 2: It's like the episode of Fresh Prince with Carlton Lutton
- 5:02Speaker 2: hung out in the hood. Yes.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Except Jackson Dart would already be there and have judgment, right?
- 5:08Speaker 1: He would be trying to get Carlton to spit his lit.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But no, Brian Dayball was out here trying to get
- 5:15Speaker 1: your boy hurt.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, four times in a concussion protocol for a rookie
- 5:20Speaker 2: quarterback is... is irresponsible and it's dangerous. And the Giants
- 5:25Speaker 2: couldn't put up with this. Like, I get it. If
- 5:26Speaker 2: you're Dayball, you're trying everything. Like, hey, I need this
- 5:28Speaker 2: young man to save my job. Like, I get it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You fighting for your life. I absolutely get it. But
- 5:33Speaker 2: you can't do that at the expense of this young
- 5:35Speaker 2: man's health. And I think that's where, that was the
- 5:37Speaker 2: tipping point. And, And what? Sunday's game against the Bears. Again,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you don't have a run game, no pass game, so
- 5:44Speaker 2: you got to have him do everything. But it became
- 5:46Speaker 2: a point where enough was enough. And if you're the
- 5:49Speaker 2: Giants now, it's like, hey, Kafka will give him a
- 5:52Speaker 2: shot on the interim to see what he's got. And
- 5:55Speaker 2: then starting this week, we got some quarterback news, don't we, Bo,
- 6:00Speaker 2: on my Giants?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We're going to get there. But let me tell you
- 6:02Speaker 1: this right fast. I had this realization about Dayball. And
- 6:05Speaker 1: I said on the last show that we did, I
- 6:07Speaker 1: talked about Dayball, and I made the point that If
- 6:09Speaker 1: you have to save your job, you've already lost your job, right?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Like it's not your job. You're actually trying to get
- 6:13Speaker 1: it back if you are trying to save your job.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I don't really work in corporate jobs, but I
- 6:20Speaker 1: know some of them terms that people talk about. And
- 6:22Speaker 1: now we got new terminology that we could use under
- 6:24Speaker 1: these circumstances, which is they have put Dayball on the
- 6:29Speaker 1: performance improvement plan, a.k.a. a plan. You know about the plan, huh?
- 6:36Speaker 2: What's up? What's up?
- 6:37Speaker 1: So the performance improvement plan is when they call you
- 6:39Speaker 1: into your job and they let you know, hey, your
- 6:41Speaker 1: performance has not really been up to snuff, but we're
- 6:44Speaker 1: going to put you on a plan to get better.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But once they put you on the plan, there's no
- 6:50Speaker 1: coming back, right? There's no coming back from that. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, you're Daybone. They put him on a plan.
- 6:57Speaker 1: How many people actually, like the rare person who makes
- 7:00Speaker 1: the turnaround when they put him on a plan was
- 7:02Speaker 1: actually Tom Coughlin. Because remember, it was the mutiny. The
- 7:06Speaker 1: fellas that had enough of his guff.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Right. That 0-7 season. After the 0-2 start, and they
- 7:13Speaker 2: were like, we're tired of this. They're showing up early stuff.
- 7:16Speaker 2: This ain't working. We need to open up the offense.
- 7:18Speaker 2: We need to do something. And they turned it around. Right.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We don't like you, and we're losing. It can't be
- 7:25Speaker 1: these two things. But Shannon hit on it. Jackson Dart,
- 7:29Speaker 1: we are assuming, is not going to play because he
- 7:31Speaker 1: got his egg scrambled again. Um, and so the giants,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and this makes me raise a question about day bowl,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but the giants have decided, look, man, we just can't
- 7:40Speaker 1: keep putting Russell Wilson out there. And so now we're
- 7:43Speaker 1: going to have some fun and Jamis Winston is going
- 7:46Speaker 1: to start in this game against the Packers. Now I
- 7:50Speaker 1: want to take this back to day bowl. Cause I
- 7:52Speaker 1: do think this is interesting. I am curious your thoughts.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Clearly day bowl had no faith in Russell Wilson.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And by the way, nor should he have. Like, that
- 8:01Speaker 1: is a reasonable position that he had. But as we
- 8:04Speaker 1: have established, Brian Dayball's job, one, was I'm not going
- 8:07Speaker 1: to get fired, okay? Now, I don't know if he
- 8:11Speaker 1: thought that Russell Wilson would save his job, but I
- 8:14Speaker 1: know he is certain that Jameis Winston would have gotten
- 8:17Speaker 1: him fired, right? The last time we had seen Jameis
- 8:20Speaker 1: Winston play football, he was better than the last time
- 8:23Speaker 1: we had seen Russell Wilson play football, you could argue, right?
- 8:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:26Speaker 1: All these situations where Russell had been coming in there
- 8:29Speaker 1: during these concussions, that could have very easily been Jameis Winston.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It's a day ball new. Hell no. He is going
- 8:34Speaker 1: to get me fired. No chance. No chance. Now Kafka
- 8:38Speaker 1: is like, I'll never get this job if Russell Wilson
- 8:41Speaker 1: is the quarterback.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And that's the thing with Jameis. It's high risk, high reward.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And that's the thing. Jameis is going to throw a
- 8:47Speaker 2: ton of picks, but he's going to let that thing go, too.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And you thought initially with Russ, it was like, hey,
- 8:52Speaker 2: he's great at the deep pass. But then at some point,
- 8:54Speaker 2: Russ forgot how to throw the deep pass. Russ forgot
- 8:56Speaker 2: how to throw periods. As we saw in that Kansas
- 8:59Speaker 2: City game, and as we saw this past week in Chicago, like,
- 9:02Speaker 2: Russ forgot how to throw the ball, and he just
- 9:05Speaker 2: looked old, and you couldn't, as the Giants, you can't
- 9:08Speaker 2: move forward with that. So at least with Jameis, you're
- 9:10Speaker 2: going to have some fun. Like, that's the thing. You've
- 9:12Speaker 2: got to still be selling tickets. You've got to sell
- 9:14Speaker 2: something to your team, especially with your most likely a franchise...
- 9:18Speaker 2: quarterback going to be out for some time, you had
- 9:20Speaker 2: to sell something. You couldn't sell to your fans moving
- 9:22Speaker 2: forward like, hey, for the rest of this year, you're
- 9:24Speaker 2: going to get a lot more of these Russell Wilson games.
- 9:27Speaker 2: You couldn't do that. You couldn't do that. So at
- 9:28Speaker 2: least with Jameis, it's going to be entertaining. He's going
- 9:31Speaker 2: to run around. We're going to get those pregame speeches now.
- 9:33Speaker 2: He might eat a dub or they're going to be
- 9:35Speaker 2: taking losses. At least you have something to watch as
- 9:38Speaker 2: compared to what Russ wasn't able to give you down
- 9:42Speaker 2: the stretch of the season.
- 9:43Speaker 1: People really like Jameis. They enjoy Jameis. I told you, man,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I still can't believe I ran up on him at
- 9:50Speaker 1: Morningside Park on a Sunday morning in the summer of 2024.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I have no idea why he was there. So what
- 9:58Speaker 1: is interesting to me, though like Russell Wilson and Jameis
- 10:01Speaker 1: Winston are kind of sort of different sides of the
- 10:04Speaker 1: same coin, which is many find each of them to
- 10:08Speaker 1: be a bit disingenuous. Right.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: But Jameis does it in the fun way. Jameis is
- 10:16Speaker 1: absolutely trying to win you over. But I don't feel
- 10:19Speaker 1: like he's not who he is when he tries to
- 10:21Speaker 1: win you over. I have no idea who Russell Wilson is.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I got a real good handle on what Jameis Winston is.
- 10:26Speaker 1: The problem is also some indications of what he might
- 10:28Speaker 1: be capable of. But I know exactly who he is.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And it's fun when it's fun.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Right, and that's the thing with Russ. At times, he's
- 10:38Speaker 2: come off as disingenuous, whereas, like, Jameis, hey, the character
- 10:41Speaker 2: that is Jameis is the character that you're going to get,
- 10:44Speaker 2: you know, when the cameras are on and when they're off.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And teammates seem to gravitate around that, gravitate towards that.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Excuse me. So, with Russ, that wasn't the case. You
- 10:54Speaker 2: could just tell. It's like, yes, both guys are deep-rooted
- 10:58Speaker 2: in their faith, but it seemed at times that, although...
- 11:02Speaker 2: See if this makes sense. Although Jameis preached, Russ came
- 11:05Speaker 2: off as more preachy.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. But it's weird because Jameis sound exactly
- 11:10Speaker 1: like the preacher you shouldn't trust.
- 11:14Speaker 2: What was what was David Alan Gray Omar? And they're like,
- 11:16Speaker 2: that's his character. Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Jameis is exactly Jameis explaining to me why my
- 11:23Speaker 1: money ain't going nowhere that I can see. Right? Like,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Jameis is explaining to you why God sent that Cadillac.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Why it was imperative, in fact, that he had that Cadillac.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So, Russ is officially done, right?
- 11:41Speaker 1: He's cooked.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Like, Russ is done done.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like, unless he's willing, and maybe he
- 11:47Speaker 1: is willing to take those jobs where there's no chance
- 11:49Speaker 1: you ever play, but it can't nobody put him back
- 11:52Speaker 1: out there, man.
- 11:54Speaker 2: He looks so old. So my question for you now
- 11:57Speaker 2: looking back, if Russ is– Russ that we knew, star
- 12:00Speaker 2: quarterback Russ is done, done. So now how do you
- 12:03Speaker 2: think his time at the end of Seattle, his time
- 12:07Speaker 2: with Denver those two years, now with Pittsburgh and now
- 12:10Speaker 2: with the Giants, how has that impacted how we view
- 12:14Speaker 2: Russell Wilson? I'm not even getting to a Hall of
- 12:16Speaker 2: Fame candidacy, just how he's viewed overall because in Seattle
- 12:20Speaker 2: he was the quarterback looked at, he couldn't do any wrong.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Now that perception has totally been flipped, especially after what
- 12:26Speaker 2: happened in Denver.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Well, what's interesting about it is, so I remember when
- 12:30Speaker 1: things started going bad in Denver, I used to use
- 12:33Speaker 1: the Apple News app a lot. And it was stunning
- 12:37Speaker 1: how the algorithm every day just sent me how terrible
- 12:41Speaker 1: Russell Wilson was, right? Like it was all kinds of
- 12:43Speaker 1: different things. People hate Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson can't do this.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Everything else. Like I can't think of a time when
- 12:48Speaker 1: a turn has happened on a player that felt quite
- 12:51Speaker 1: like it did with this guy. who is ultimately really inoffensive,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and I think that that has colored the way that
- 12:59Speaker 1: people have talked about his career, right? Now, you say
- 13:01Speaker 1: we're not talking about Hall of Fame candidacy. Let's put
- 13:03Speaker 1: that up there, though. I don't buy the idea that
- 13:06Speaker 1: you can play yourself out of the Hall of Fame, right?
- 13:08Speaker 1: If you ever thought that man was a Hall of Famer,
- 13:12Speaker 1: then he is a Hall of Famer. Now, an interesting
- 13:15Speaker 1: comparison is him and Stafford, and people who listen to
- 13:18Speaker 1: this show know I talk about Stafford all the time,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but Stafford is probably going to make the Pro Bowl
- 13:24Speaker 1: this year for what I believe would be the fourth time.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Matt Stafford, because of how he's playing really this year,
- 13:31Speaker 1: is going to make it into the Hall of Fame.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Like I think, oh, by the way, it'll be his
- 13:36Speaker 1: third time if he goes this year.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Russell Wilson's been in the Pro Bowl 10 times. Now,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Pro Bowls are the ultimate metric, right?
- 13:48Speaker 1: But the metrics that people have typically used, Russell Wilson
- 13:50Speaker 1: clears them. He's won a Super Bowl as starting quarterback.
- 13:53Speaker 1: He's been to two Super Bowls. He's had how many
- 13:56Speaker 1: seasons of 30 touchdowns? Say what you want about the
- 14:00Speaker 1: defense that they had in Seattle. It wasn't like Russell
- 14:02Speaker 1: was out there throwing a swan at Stalbert. when he
- 14:04Speaker 1: was getting this done, like he had his flaws as
- 14:06Speaker 1: a player. But if you ever thought that he was
- 14:09Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer, then I don't think that what
- 14:12Speaker 1: has happened these last couple of years would take him out.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But I'm not, I'm a person that thinks that longevity
- 14:17Speaker 1: is typically overvalued when people talk about whether or not
- 14:20Speaker 1: you go to the Hall of Fame. To me, it's like,
- 14:21Speaker 1: what were you at the peak of what you had? Now,
- 14:24Speaker 1: he was never first team or second team All-Pro. That's
- 14:27Speaker 1: another fair discussion. But if you ever thought he was
- 14:30Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer before, I think that means he's
- 14:32Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer now.
- 14:34Speaker 2: So looking back at those Seattle teams, like right now
- 14:37Speaker 2: on the face without having to look up all the numbers,
- 14:39Speaker 2: how many of those guys from that Seattle team do
- 14:41Speaker 2: you think ultimately make the Hall of Fame?
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think Russ makes it. I mean, I'm still going
- 14:46Speaker 1: to say I think he does. Now, it'll be interesting.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It may take a while, but I think the resume
- 14:52Speaker 1: is going to be difficult, kind of difficult to fight.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Marshawn Lynch is going to be the interesting one. I
- 14:57Speaker 1: think he probably gets in because the scarcity at the
- 15:00Speaker 1: position in the time period. And he's generally a liked guy.
- 15:04Speaker 1: But I think him then on defense, Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas,
- 15:09Speaker 1: Richard Sherman.
- 15:11Speaker 2: There's no disagreement there. Like I thought all three of
- 15:14Speaker 2: those guys like some will try to make an argument
- 15:16Speaker 2: for camp chancellor there. But I think but I but I.
- 15:20Speaker 2: He's fringy. I don't see it happening. Earl Thomas, it's interesting.
- 15:24Speaker 2: At one point, he was in that conversation with best
- 15:26Speaker 2: defensive player in the league.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I get everybody looked at Sherm because he talked, and
- 15:30Speaker 2: we know how solid Wagner was, but Earl Thomas was
- 15:34Speaker 2: the best defensive player on that team.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I agree. Bobby Wagner's going to walk in there.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Of course.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Earl Thomas, I think people have just kind of forgotten,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but I think it's pretty clear that he is going
- 15:44Speaker 1: to go in there. Yeah, with Cam Chancellor, just a reminder,
- 15:47Speaker 1: safety's a tough position. It took Steve Atwater 30 years.
- 15:50Speaker 1: to get into the Hall of Fame. Well, not 30,
- 15:52Speaker 1: but it was a significant period of time for him
- 15:54Speaker 1: to get into the Hall of Fame. But yeah, Russ,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I've never.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Again, the distaste that people seem to have for him.
- 16:02Speaker 1: That's the part that I find to be so strange.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I get it.
- 16:08Speaker 1: He's a bit annoying, but he don't do nothing to nobody.
- 16:10Speaker 2: He's harmless, right? Ultimately harmless.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Hey, man, we got to run with the point that
- 16:16Speaker 1: Ryan made before the show. I asked the question, man,
- 16:18Speaker 1: what's the name of the podcast that Russ and Sierra
- 16:20Speaker 1: are going to be? Or is it going to be
- 16:21Speaker 1: a reality TV show where they go find wayward boppers, influencers,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and pop stars and help them find themselves an athletic man?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Hell, that could be a podcast itself.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, they're going to make a whole
- 16:38Speaker 1: TV show about that one.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And two, it's all going to be relationship-based though, right?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Whatever it is, whether it's the podcast or reality show,
- 16:48Speaker 2: it's going to be relationship-based.
- 16:49Speaker 1: With a dollop of the Savior.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Well, that's always... That's ever-present. That's always going to be...
- 16:56Speaker 2: That's because that was able to happen. Remember, it was
- 17:00Speaker 2: preyed on.
- 17:00Speaker 1: So that's where it starts. Remember when Russell Wilson tried
- 17:04Speaker 1: to convince us that somehow they had started doing that thing,
- 17:09Speaker 1: and then they... yeah whatever you say dog that was
- 17:17Speaker 1: i'll tell this right fast this is being shared i
- 17:19Speaker 1: think i think we were doing a radio show together
- 17:21Speaker 1: by then um and long and short russell wilson got
- 17:26Speaker 1: on some tv show and told everybody that he and
- 17:28Speaker 1: sierra decided that they was going to be celibate until
- 17:31Speaker 1: they got married And that became a topic on television. And,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you know, I'm built different than a lot of people.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And so people would talk about it. And some folks
- 17:38Speaker 1: would talk about how they was impressed by that.
- 17:40Speaker 2: And I was not.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I was not. I am not. I'm not impressed by
- 17:45Speaker 1: you not having sex with Sierra. Not at all. Boy,
- 17:49Speaker 1: one of my colleagues jumped on Twitter and got mad
- 17:52Speaker 1: at me. And he said that I owe an apology
- 17:55Speaker 1: to him and everybody else who believed in his Lord.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And I was like. That's not happening, sir. You must
- 18:03Speaker 1: be crazy.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Hell no.
- 18:06Speaker 1: What are you talking about?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Out here being celibate after you're already dating Sierra. And
- 18:11Speaker 2: from the.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Implication, after y'all already was doing it.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Right. That would be actually defined as hustling backwards.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Correct.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Like, uh-uh, what are we doing? We're here now. Like, Like,
- 18:22Speaker 2: the proverbial toothpaste is out of the tube. Yeah. Like,
- 18:25Speaker 2: we here now. We made it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Good for you, homie. Right?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Like, yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Like, I'm giving the most backhanded.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Good for you.
- 18:34Speaker 1: But anyway, the podcast is coming.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Now, is Russ going to be bad for business? Is
- 18:39Speaker 1: he going to mess up the podcast?
- 18:43Speaker 2: I think he'll find a lane. I think they'll find
- 18:45Speaker 2: a lane because you got, like you said, the amount
- 18:47Speaker 2: of people who are going to be into that, especially
- 18:50Speaker 2: if you're The church-going folks are going to be all in.
- 18:53Speaker 2: The relationship folks, the folks, well, how can I snag
- 18:57Speaker 2: me a baller? There's absolutely a market for that.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That book, that thing will fly off the shelves.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Look, man, you got to gatekeep some of this stuff. Like,
- 19:13Speaker 2: what did I say? A magician can't reveal all of
- 19:15Speaker 2: his tricks.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're going to be so much paper in
- 19:20Speaker 1: that book. The streets that I don't traffic on are clamoring.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Not to mention, too, like, oh, like, the game is
- 19:27Speaker 2: so different now. Like, how these kids move in these
- 19:30Speaker 2: internet streets now and the social media and the streams. Like,
- 19:34Speaker 2: I don't understand any of it. Like, I don't know
- 19:36Speaker 2: how to do any of that stuff. So I can't
- 19:38Speaker 2: imagine the lengths in which some of these people do,
- 19:41Speaker 2: sliding in DMs, you know, fake FaceTimes, the whole nine. Like,
- 19:46Speaker 2: the game is out here.
- 19:48Speaker 1: The game's out here.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Wait for it. Hold up.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Let me ask something. Before we go, we're going to
- 19:54Speaker 1: get to break. I didn't expect that we'd talk 20
- 19:55Speaker 1: minutes with the Giants, but the Giants are actually giving
- 19:57Speaker 1: us quite a bit right now. Like, I feel like
- 19:59Speaker 1: we're where the people are. We're not just doing this
- 20:01Speaker 1: for ourselves. But you had made a point earlier, and
- 20:04Speaker 1: we talked about this, The Giants had started a black
- 20:06Speaker 1: man at quarterback on purpose one time and they fired
- 20:09Speaker 1: the coach for trying, right? You had fallen for the
- 20:14Speaker 1: Shadua Sanders thing like a lot of other people. And
- 20:16Speaker 1: you were hoping that the Giants would take him because honestly,
- 20:19Speaker 1: y'all had never done that before. And then you saw
- 20:22Speaker 1: that they got Jackson Dart, who I guess my point
- 20:25Speaker 1: is every day somebody around Shadua Sanders looks up and
- 20:30Speaker 1: sees Jackson Dart acting like he's shooting dice and be like, yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but what if that was me, huh? What if that
- 20:38Speaker 1: was me?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Points are made, but with that... Like, that's coming after
- 20:47Speaker 2: the production. That's coming after the touchdown.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, you're correct.
- 20:49Speaker 2: You're correct. But you know this. You know. Oh, my God.
- 20:52Speaker 2: He could never. He could never. Oh, my God.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Can you imagine if he was doing half of that stuff?
- 20:56Speaker 2: He could never.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I think it's ridiculous. And I would think it was
- 21:00Speaker 1: ridiculous if Jackson Dart did this. But I thought the
- 21:02Speaker 1: Chidori thing with the watch was ridiculous and incredibly off-putting.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I don't want anybody 20 years old throwing money in
- 21:07Speaker 1: my face.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Especially someone who grew up with money.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't want that. If people have skepticism, Jackson
- 21:13Speaker 1: Dart would get a D. He'd have a Richard Mille deal.
- 21:16Speaker 1: out of that if he was out there. Like, I'm
- 21:18Speaker 1: telling you, Shadur over there, like, why he ain't going
- 21:21Speaker 1: to fifth round?
- 21:22Speaker 2: Huh? Huh? But you know what it really is, though?
- 21:30Speaker 1: Politics, man. Politics! I'll tell you this, though. They really
- 21:36Speaker 1: don't want Shadur starting at Cleveland at this point.
- 21:39Speaker 2: And it's funny you bring up, I was mentioning this
- 21:42Speaker 2: to somebody yesterday after we had the news that Travis
- 21:44Speaker 2: Hunter was going to be out for the remainder of
- 21:47Speaker 2: the year. That Colorado run seems so long ago now.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Like it never happened.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Like doesn't it? Like think about it. That Shador, Travis Hunter,
- 21:54Speaker 2: Deion Sanders, Colorado, the top of the news stack every week,
- 21:59Speaker 2: week in and week out for two straight seasons. Yep.
- 22:01Speaker 2: That seems like such a long time ago.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Well, what's interesting is it proves it was really about
- 22:05Speaker 1: the players. Like Dion was the start, but the coach
- 22:08Speaker 1: couldn't sustain it. It was about the players and they
- 22:10Speaker 1: got some guys, right? That maybe at some point it
- 22:13Speaker 1: could happen. I did see somewhere on the internet with
- 22:15Speaker 1: one of them spam accounts to try to make the
- 22:17Speaker 1: argument about whether or not Colorado might be thinking about
- 22:20Speaker 1: firing Dion Sanders. Dion could go win four or five
- 22:24Speaker 1: games a year for them for 15 years. And as
- 22:28Speaker 1: long as they selling tickets, right? They'll be happy. The
- 22:32Speaker 1: only problem is, hey, man, the boy's going to stop going.
- 22:38Speaker 2: But that's the part, too. Like, that's the part, too. Like,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you can sell me in the dream, but we got
- 22:42Speaker 2: to start winning some games, too. Like, I can't be
- 22:45Speaker 2: out here, you know, coming as a five-star recruit and
- 22:48Speaker 2: my stock dropping, you know?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Well, is Deion going to be willing to change the
- 22:52Speaker 1: way he's done this and, like, the strict transfer thing?
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's not going to work. Like, you're going to have
- 22:56Speaker 1: to have some young boys. You know, look, Kersignetti up
- 22:59Speaker 1: there at Indiana, he did a super transfer wave, but
- 23:02Speaker 1: it was all, like, his guys.
- 23:04Speaker 2: His own guys, though, right.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, from another place. But, you know, they
- 23:07Speaker 1: still got to figure that out. But, hey, coming up next,
- 23:10Speaker 1: we got some things to get to here. I'm going
- 23:12Speaker 1: to figure out which one do I want to tease
- 23:14Speaker 1: the people with. Oh, maybe the funniest Nico Harrison story
- 23:18Speaker 1: of them all. What if you could consistently find whatever

- 24:22Speaker 1: the smartest way to hide. All right, we are back
- 24:26Speaker 1: with my man, Shannon Penn and Nico Harrison. They finally
- 24:29Speaker 1: put him out of his misery. We have recorded a
- 24:32Speaker 1: show on the hypothetical of Nico getting fired, but we
- 24:35Speaker 1: didn't know he was going to get fired between the
- 24:36Speaker 1: recording and the actual show, which by the way, it
- 24:39Speaker 1: was like a three hour span. They announced what time
- 24:44Speaker 1: they were going to fire him. They're like, yo, 10
- 24:47Speaker 1: o'clock central. He gonna walk in and he gonna get fired.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Like, if you knew that, do you rehearse? Do you, like,
- 24:54Speaker 2: rehearse the firing? Like, look, boom, check this out. Look,
- 24:57Speaker 2: here's what we're going to do. Look, we getting rid
- 24:59Speaker 2: of old boy at this time, right? So we're going
- 25:01Speaker 2: to have him come in, right? You just sit there,
- 25:04Speaker 2: and we're going to act like it's going to be
- 25:06Speaker 2: a regular meeting. When a dude come in, that's when
- 25:08Speaker 2: we drop the buyout one.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I tell you this, though. If I'm Nico, and I
- 25:12Speaker 1: get that tweet, and I mean, first of all, when
- 25:14Speaker 1: they was like, Nico, come in here at 10, he
- 25:16Speaker 1: knew what was going on. But number two, and this
- 25:18Speaker 1: is the real talk, man. I know how HR stuff go, man.
- 25:22Speaker 1: You do that at 8 o'clock in the morning. You
- 25:25Speaker 1: do that before anybody else come to work. You know
- 25:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying? You let him come in, and then
- 25:29Speaker 1: you let him roll out. They would... Do you think
- 25:32Speaker 1: they walked him out with security? Because it sounds like,
- 25:35Speaker 1: this sounds like the sort of thing you do so
- 25:37Speaker 1: that everybody can see you walk him out.
- 25:40Speaker 2: That's absolutely what they did. My wife as an HR manager,
- 25:44Speaker 2: it's absolutely. At one of her jobs, she used to
- 25:47Speaker 2: bring you into the office, right? And you're getting fired
- 25:49Speaker 2: when you're in that meeting. They got somebody else cleaning
- 25:52Speaker 2: out your cubicle. They got the boxes, somebody else cleaning
- 25:55Speaker 2: out your cubicle. So everybody know, so they walking you out,
- 25:58Speaker 2: they hand you your box so you can take the
- 26:00Speaker 2: walk of shame on the way out. That's absolutely what
- 26:02Speaker 2: the Mavericks did.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Now, Ryan's saying 9.30 Eastern is the standard layoff time,
- 26:06Speaker 1: but this wasn't a layoff, okay? They shit-canned him. They
- 26:11Speaker 1: had all kinds of ways they could do this. They
- 26:13Speaker 1: told the whole world that at 10 o'clock in the morning,
- 26:16Speaker 1: they was going to fire him. Can you imagine what
- 26:19Speaker 1: it was like? that day at work everybody in the
- 26:22Speaker 1: office know and they just in there looking around waiting
- 26:25Speaker 1: for it to happen right because there's nothing quite like
- 26:28Speaker 1: when something's gone down in the office and nobody can
- 26:30Speaker 1: really talk about it but everybody paying attention to it
- 26:33Speaker 1: like you remember that time that you was producing steven
- 26:36Speaker 1: a show and uh to said that max was blacker
- 26:39Speaker 1: than him.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Yeah, this was some uncomfortable time.
- 26:45Speaker 1: We were all in the office that day just like.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I'm like... What are we going to do?
- 26:53Speaker 1: It felt... Not to say situation, but it felt like
- 26:57Speaker 1: a booberay when Marcus Graham showed up after he had
- 27:01Speaker 1: got kicked to the curb and everybody know it and
- 27:04Speaker 1: everybody just kind of talking to each other a little
- 27:07Speaker 1: bit and then Stephen A would come around the corner
- 27:08Speaker 1: and you have to straighten your back up because he
- 27:11Speaker 1: was so hot. And that's what's going on.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Imagine that.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Niko walk in an hour before everybody know it's going
- 27:20Speaker 1: down at 10. First of all, if I'm Niko, once
- 27:23Speaker 1: I read that shit, I'm out. I ain't saying nothing
- 27:26Speaker 1: to nobody. I'm getting in my car. Y'all gonna have
- 27:28Speaker 1: to tell me on the phone.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Right. Like, what's the point? Like, what's the point of
- 27:34Speaker 2: bringing me in? Look, we already know what it is. Right. Look,
- 27:36Speaker 2: we got technology. We can do this over FaceTime if
- 27:39Speaker 2: you want. Like, I don't need to come in for
- 27:41Speaker 2: you to tell me what we already know. I ain't
- 27:43Speaker 2: gonna lie.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't have.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Personally, unless you just really wanted the joy of firing him,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'd rather talk to him on the phone, too, because look, man,
- 27:53Speaker 1: he didn't do this alone, right? He did not do
- 27:56Speaker 1: this alone. There's somebody else.
- 27:58Speaker 2: But.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Did you see this link when we sent it to you?
- 28:02Speaker 1: Because if you didn't, I can't wait to tell you
- 28:03Speaker 1: about this.
- 28:04Speaker 2: What's up?
- 28:05Speaker 1: Okay. Tim Cato used to write for the Athletic, writes for,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know them websites with no vowels?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Like the Dallas Sports.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Yeah, D-L-L-L.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Okay. So this was in his Nico Harrison retrospective,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I suppose we'll call it. This is from the story. Quote,
- 28:28Speaker 1: One team source recalls a document where Nico Harrison placed
- 28:33Speaker 1: Drew Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokic.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Come on, man. Come on.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I can only come away from this with one conclusion,
- 28:57Speaker 3: which is, Well, hold on, hold on.
- 29:02Speaker 1: There's one of two conclusions. It's really one conclusion. It
- 29:04Speaker 1: just depends on how specific you want to get with it.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Is Nico's problem with white basketball players or with Europeans?
- 29:14Speaker 2: See, that's the question. See, that was the question. There's
- 29:17Speaker 2: no way in the world.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Like, this right here is the Tony Banks can play
- 29:22Speaker 1: of basketball analysis, right? Drew Holiday, very, very, very good player, right?
- 29:28Speaker 1: But I said this to a friend of the show,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and the friend of the show was like, well, we
- 29:31Speaker 1: don't know how long ago Nico said this. How fucking
- 29:34Speaker 1: far along back did you have to go to where
- 29:36Speaker 1: you thought that Drew Holiday, it wasn't my life. was
- 29:40Speaker 1: in charge of the Mavericks that this would be appropriate? Right? Like,
- 29:45Speaker 1: so maybe on one hand, right, Niko's on the, hey,
- 29:48Speaker 1: you know, I value defense, everything else. Or maybe on
- 29:51Speaker 1: the other hand, he's like, look, all them, no, no,
- 29:55Speaker 1: don't want none of them on the team. Maybe that's
- 29:58Speaker 1: where Niko is, but the second that he put that on,
- 30:00Speaker 1: the second he put that on an actual, factual piece
- 30:04Speaker 1: of work product, that's when they should have fired him.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Right, right. And my question to you, Bo, is with Niko,
- 30:12Speaker 2: because obviously, The Luka trade. It comes down to... It's
- 30:17Speaker 2: a ton of moves that he made that hadn't worked out,
- 30:19Speaker 2: but it all comes down to the Luka trade. So
- 30:22Speaker 2: how much of this getting rid of him now was, hey,
- 30:26Speaker 2: we're off to a what? 3-8 start. The Lakers off
- 30:29Speaker 2: to an 8-3 start. Luka went out here and lost weight.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Luka's playing well. Or was it just a combination of both?
- 30:35Speaker 2: How much of it was Dallas struggling plus... Lakers and
- 30:40Speaker 2: Luka looking great so far.
- 30:41Speaker 1: They booing him every game.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Okay?
- 30:45Speaker 1: They booing him. Think about this. Jerry Jones has never
- 30:49Speaker 1: done anything to hurt the people like this.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Right?
- 30:53Speaker 1: So they booing him every game. Anthony Davis showed up
- 30:57Speaker 1: looking chubby. Then he got hurt. And remember, the whole
- 31:01Speaker 1: thing about Luka was he out of shape and he
- 31:04Speaker 1: won't stay home.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:06Speaker 1: In comes Anthony Davis on his kick. Then they're losing
- 31:09Speaker 1: every game. Then, man, once the owner called the fan
- 31:12Speaker 1: down in the Dodgers jersey and talked to him, and
- 31:15Speaker 1: the fan then says that Dumont told him that it
- 31:20Speaker 1: was all a mistake. Like, it had to be done.
- 31:23Speaker 1: There was no way around it. And to be fair
- 31:25Speaker 1: to Nico, it turned into Murphy's Law immediately. after this
- 31:31Speaker 1: trade was made, right? Everything that could possibly go wrong
- 31:35Speaker 1: then went wrong. I just want to get some clips
- 31:38Speaker 1: of what Nico be saying about the white basketball players
- 31:41Speaker 1: when nobody's around. Did they have to make him take
- 31:43Speaker 1: Cooper flag? You know what I'm saying? Like, I feel
- 31:47Speaker 1: like that is the equivalent of if somebody has said
- 31:52Speaker 1: that like Wes Welker was the same caliber of player
- 31:54Speaker 1: as KM Newton.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Or do you remember when people used to try to
- 31:58Speaker 1: tell us that Wes Welker and Randy Moss, it was
- 32:01Speaker 1: kind of insane, right? They just did different things. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Which one of these is not like the other? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Like, that's what I feel like when I hear that
- 32:10Speaker 1: Nico said this. Like, I want to... So, this is documentary,
- 32:14Speaker 1: a very good documentary about Louis Armstrong that I think
- 32:17Speaker 1: Sasha Jenkins did, but it was on Apple TV. But anyway,
- 32:19Speaker 1: I had known about this before. But, you know, Louis
- 32:22Speaker 1: Armstrong would be out there smiling a lot i am
- 32:25Speaker 1: trying to avoid saying that he was skinning and grinning
- 32:30Speaker 1: but it was a different time so anyway.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I see leaves of green.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Big smile all that stuff right every night he would go.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Home red roses.
- 32:48Speaker 1: But every night louis austral would come home And as
- 32:51Speaker 1: a journalist of sorts, he would record his thoughts on tape.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And many of those thoughts were about how much he
- 32:58Speaker 1: could not stand white people.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Good gracious.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Now, look, Louis Armstrong at that time, you couldn't really
- 33:04Speaker 1: blame him.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Like, you know. But anyway, I need to see the
- 33:08Speaker 1: Nico diary. If he think that Drew Holiday was in
- 33:10Speaker 1: the same class as Jokic.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:13Speaker 1: He'd be out there walking around being like they call
- 33:15Speaker 1: him Joker. I call him Jokic because he a joke.
- 33:18Speaker 1: That's what he is, a joke.
- 33:24Speaker 2: What happened to the basketball I knew? What happened to
- 33:26Speaker 2: the basketball I grew up on?
- 33:27Speaker 1: Hey, man, imagine if that boy Pods from the Warriors
- 33:32Speaker 1: was on the Mavericks. Have you seen... The Warriors, I
- 33:36Speaker 1: did not realize this. Basketball season gets started and I
- 33:39Speaker 1: kind of pop in and out and the Warriors started
- 33:41Speaker 1: off on fire and people were talking about how they
- 33:43Speaker 1: were championship contenders and then I look up today and
- 33:45Speaker 1: they lost six games in a row on the road, right?
- 33:50Speaker 1: So Draymond Green questioned the commitment to winning of the team.
- 33:54Speaker 1: He said, I think everybody was committed to winning back
- 33:58Speaker 1: then and doing it any way possible. Right now, it
- 34:01Speaker 1: doesn't feel that way. Anthony Slater of ESPN.com said in
- 34:06Speaker 1: his piece that it really sounded like he's talking about Pajemski,
- 34:09Speaker 1: that is his name, the boy Pods for the Warriors,
- 34:12Speaker 1: and Kaminga. But I think he's really just talking about
- 34:17Speaker 1: the Pods dude. And I learned things about him that
- 34:19Speaker 1: I did not know. First of all, did you know
- 34:22Speaker 1: that he gave a quote this summer leading up to
- 34:24Speaker 1: the season where he was asked if he was to
- 34:26Speaker 1: be as great as Steph Curry? And he said he
- 34:29Speaker 1: wants to be better than Steph Curry. And then the
- 34:34Speaker 1: whole locker room was like, word. So he from Milwaukee, right? Okay.
- 34:42Speaker 1: They're playing the Bucs, did a lot of media because
- 34:45Speaker 1: of it. And apparently he used to play baseball. And
- 34:47Speaker 1: that man said that if he played baseball, he would
- 34:50Speaker 1: be white Ohtani.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah good luck with them all right.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So he's so he thinks he could be better than
- 34:57Speaker 1: Steph Curry he thinks that he could be as good
- 35:00Speaker 1: as Otani and what I take from that is wow
- 35:03Speaker 1: Anthony Edwards is incredibly charming because he has basically said
- 35:07Speaker 1: all of these things and we find it all delightful
- 35:10Speaker 1: when he says it when this pods guy says it
- 35:12Speaker 1: we're like man if y'all sit your ass down with
- 35:14Speaker 1: this nonsense right like no like We know Anthony Edwards
- 35:18Speaker 1: isn't joking, but it kind of feels like he's joking.
- 35:21Speaker 1: This guy isn't joking at all. And now the guys
- 35:25Speaker 1: around him are like, bruh, if you don't chill.
- 35:30Speaker 2: But here's the thing, though, especially with this organization, like
- 35:33Speaker 2: we've seen with this organization and more specifically Draymond does
- 35:38Speaker 2: to these kind of young whippersnappers. will be out here
- 35:41Speaker 2: popping off a little too much. Keep that shit up
- 35:46Speaker 2: and you're getting annexed to Washington. You know what I'm saying? Okay,
- 35:51Speaker 2: all right, young fella. Okay. You want to be better
- 35:54Speaker 2: than Steph Curry? How's playing in Barclays feel for you?
- 35:57Speaker 1: Brother, they got tired of Clay. And he had to go.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Like, I'm all one for confidence. Like, I get it. Like,
- 36:06Speaker 2: to be able to perform at that level, you got
- 36:09Speaker 2: to have a certain level of confidence. But also, my boy,
- 36:11Speaker 2: you got to read the room as well. Like, yo, like,
- 36:15Speaker 2: that Steph quote, like, I'm all for confidence. But, yo,
- 36:17Speaker 2: you still play with Steph. Like, he's your teammate. You
- 36:21Speaker 2: can't do that, my guy. What are we doing? What
- 36:24Speaker 2: are we doing?
- 36:24Speaker 1: That's why we need, like, some old school Michael Jordan
- 36:27Speaker 1: magic types. Because that would have, I don't know, maybe
- 36:29Speaker 1: Steph did it. But that would have been met with
- 36:31Speaker 1: the most vicious practice of all time.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Not to mention, too, you talk about making a comparison
- 36:38Speaker 2: to Ant. Ant got skins on the wall. I know
- 36:40Speaker 2: no championship yet, but man got all NBAs and things
- 36:44Speaker 2: like that. First overall pick. You can say that. You
- 36:46Speaker 2: can say that.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Ant isn't averaging 12 points a game.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 36:52Speaker 1: That's really what we're saying here. Anthony Edwards is averaging
- 36:56Speaker 1: more than 12 points per game.
- 37:00Speaker 2: I do wonder what the war is. Yes, they had
- 37:02Speaker 2: success in the postseason getting past the Rockets last year.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I do wonder, though, because the pod thing is a
- 37:07Speaker 2: real thing because they need those young guys to step up. Like,
- 37:11Speaker 2: you had all the contract stuff with Kaminga this offseason.
- 37:13Speaker 2: He re-upped. Like, they need those guys to step up
- 37:16Speaker 2: because we know Steph, Draymond, Jimmy, they're long in the tooth.
- 37:20Speaker 2: That's a lot of basketball miles on those legs. So, like,
- 37:24Speaker 2: they're going to have to put up with pod and
- 37:26Speaker 2: the podisms and whatever. I'm sure he'll come up with something.
- 37:30Speaker 2: They got to put up with that because they need
- 37:31Speaker 2: them dudes now. You know, like before when they made
- 37:34Speaker 2: the run before, that was more of a luxury, which
- 37:36Speaker 2: is Jordan Pools and that guy's like, like, like Moody.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Like they need those guys now. And I don't, and
- 37:41Speaker 2: I don't know if, especially looking with the West, if
- 37:45Speaker 2: that's going to be enough for the Warriors to be
- 37:48Speaker 2: what the Warriors were hoping to be. Yeah.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I mean, look, man, they got a bunch of dudes
- 37:50Speaker 1: that are ticking time bombs to get hurt. Jimmy Butler
- 37:53Speaker 1: is not going to play a lot of games, right?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Draymond Green. I can't believe he's kept this going as
- 37:58Speaker 1: long as he has. Like, I don't think, I mean,
- 38:01Speaker 1: he looked cooked. And in the 2020-2022 finals, he looked
- 38:07Speaker 1: cooked in that postseason and then brought it back around
- 38:10Speaker 1: just enough where people weren't even, they were like, shoot,
- 38:13Speaker 1: we don't care. They were playing four on five on offense.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And he has still managed to keep this whole thing together.
- 38:19Speaker 1: But the thing with DeWest is, it looks to me like,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I don't know what this Lakers thing is, right? Because
- 38:26Speaker 1: the Lakers, imagine how much Nico got to hate it, man.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Nico is Luca, is Reeves, is La Ravia.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, La Ravia looking good.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Nico would have quit his job before he led that
- 38:41Speaker 1: particular team. But I think it's Oklahoma City and the
- 38:44Speaker 1: Nuggets to me are going to be the clear top
- 38:46Speaker 1: two teams. And we still have the grand possibility of
- 38:50Speaker 1: this is the super leap year for my man Vic.
- 38:55Speaker 2: See, that's the thing. That's the biggest wild card in
- 38:58Speaker 2: the league this year. Injuries aside, that's the question. We
- 39:05Speaker 2: know the leap is coming. How big of a leap?
- 39:08Speaker 2: That's the thing. Are we going from another all-star leap?
- 39:11Speaker 2: Are we going to all-NBA top three MVP leap? Because
- 39:16Speaker 2: if that's the case, like, oh, buddy.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Let's go get a look at these stats, buddy. Because
- 39:24Speaker 1: I know he's shooting 32% from three, which I don't like. Like,
- 39:27Speaker 1: he's shooting too many of those. But, okay, in 34
- 39:32Speaker 1: minutes a game, Victor is giving them 25, 13 boards,
- 39:38Speaker 1: three and a half assists, four blocks, and a steal.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Four blocks.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Four blocks.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Four blocks, and this NBA is crazy. Four blocks.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Right, where dudes aren't really playing in the paint anymore. Like,
- 39:51Speaker 2: back in the day, like, when you had, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 2: the Mutumbos, your Lajuan's, that was more back to the basket.
- 39:56Speaker 2: You know, guys were driving more. Like, everybody's shooting threes now. So,
- 40:01Speaker 2: to be able to get four blocks in today's NBA,
- 40:04Speaker 2: that's like equivalent to averaging six or seven blocks back
- 40:07Speaker 2: in the day.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Yes, that is exactly. Those are like LeBanute Cole shot
- 40:11Speaker 1: block numbers that he's putting up. Hold on, in 34 minutes. Right, right.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And, and, and like doing like every night now, like it's, it's,
- 40:19Speaker 2: it's getting, it's getting to the level now. Cause you
- 40:22Speaker 2: and I used to always joke, Hey, you see what
- 40:23Speaker 2: LeBron did last night?
- 40:24Speaker 1: Every day.
- 40:24Speaker 2: When we get to that point, like, yo, did you
- 40:27Speaker 2: see what when we, you see the crossover and step
- 40:29Speaker 2: back and hit on Vucevic? Like, yo, he's doing stuff now. It's,
- 40:34Speaker 2: It's rare that we can still say in 2025 in
- 40:36Speaker 2: this sports world that we're seeing something that we've never
- 40:39Speaker 2: seen before. Like, how crazy is that?
- 40:41Speaker 1: And the Spurs seem to like him now. That was
- 40:43Speaker 1: a little iffy before. I think a big part of
- 40:46Speaker 1: it is, if I'm not mistaken, that boy Cisco is hurt.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Cisco is a problem, man. My brother hates Cisco so much, man.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Why don't y'all throw oops every time down the floor? Like,
- 40:59Speaker 1: you know how in the video game when you first
- 41:01Speaker 1: learn how to throw the oop? And you just do
- 41:03Speaker 1: it all the time? Why don't you throw the oop
- 41:07Speaker 1: every time down the floor?
- 41:10Speaker 2: Like you're playing NBA run and gun. Yeah, yeah. Like
- 41:12Speaker 2: every time down the court.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Okay, so Cisco's played four games this year, but we
- 41:16Speaker 1: would be out there watching when Cisco was out there,
- 41:18Speaker 1: and they would just be like, yo, Cisco, why don't
- 41:19Speaker 1: you pass the ball? Like, you not, we just call
- 41:23Speaker 1: you Cisco because of your hair. We don't call you
- 41:25Speaker 1: Cisco because you the lead singer. Yeah.
- 41:30Speaker 2: See, that's the thing. My boy thought he was, he
- 41:34Speaker 2: thought he was blonde-haired Cisco, but he was really platinum Cisco.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Platinum-haired Cisco. Yes, he was.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yes, he was. Like, my brother would get so mad
- 41:41Speaker 1: when he'd be talking about it. He'd be like, yo,
- 41:43Speaker 1: it's Cisco, man. Right. Everybody would be so mad. Now
- 41:48Speaker 1: when Victor hit them shots, they coming over to him.
- 41:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 41:52Speaker 2: And the interesting thing to watch here long term with
- 41:56Speaker 2: the Spurs is because it's the Spurs, I'm inclined to
- 41:59Speaker 2: think they'll be patient and let the young guys continue
- 42:02Speaker 2: to grow, you know? And whereas if it was another organization,
- 42:06Speaker 2: you would start having those questions. All right, when is
- 42:08Speaker 2: it time to package a couple of these young guys
- 42:10Speaker 2: to bring in another star with them? Right. I think
- 42:12Speaker 2: because it's the Spurs, I think they're cool letting this
- 42:15Speaker 2: thing ferment naturally.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think it's time. I mean, look, to me,
- 42:18Speaker 1: the question they're going to have to ask themselves is
- 42:19Speaker 1: the question I still ask myself is, like, exactly how
- 42:22Speaker 1: good is De'Aaron Fox for business?
- 42:24Speaker 2: Bingo.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Right, right. Is De'Aaron Fox going to recognize, like, did
- 42:31Speaker 1: they have a talk with him about how things work here?
- 42:35Speaker 2: And that's the thing, too. It's like they brought in
- 42:37Speaker 2: Fox last year. They didn't anticipate that you're going to
- 42:39Speaker 2: have Castle go out here and play rookie of the
- 42:41Speaker 2: year at a rookie of the year level. So now
- 42:43Speaker 2: you've got Castle. So it's kind of making Fox expendable now.
- 42:47Speaker 2: So that could, you know, that could be a guy
- 42:49Speaker 2: that could eventually be on the move. I just wonder
- 42:52Speaker 2: how they play this because it's always been dispersed. who
- 42:55Speaker 2: who have handled this or moved a little bit different
- 42:58Speaker 2: compared to some of these other teams that was like
- 42:59Speaker 2: all right we gotta go out and make a move.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But the bottom line is this if you stay you
- 43:02Speaker 1: just need to know what we do here we give
- 43:05Speaker 1: him the ball right like yeah yeah we know what
- 43:08Speaker 1: you can do we know what you got like ain't
- 43:09Speaker 1: nobody saying you're not cold right i don't want you
- 43:11Speaker 1: to get this misunderstood but uh that right there that
- 43:16Speaker 1: is the opening act the headliner And the after party,
- 43:22Speaker 1: that's him.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Hey look, I know how you used to kick it
- 43:26Speaker 2: over there at Malibu Prep. Like we get it, but
- 43:29Speaker 2: this is Bel Air Academy. There's only one offense we
- 43:32Speaker 2: run on this team. There's only one offense we run.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Don't get this confused. Don't get this confused. By the way,
- 43:39Speaker 1: have you seen that they tried to change the all-star
- 43:41Speaker 1: game again?
- 43:42Speaker 2: It's so confusing.
- 43:44Speaker 1: So I don't really understand how this is going to
- 43:47Speaker 1: work this time. But it's going to be, you know,
- 43:53Speaker 1: y'all start talking about something on the internet and Adam
- 43:55Speaker 1: Silver gonna do it, right? Like, I think that has
- 43:57Speaker 1: become very clear. And so it's the USA versus the
- 44:01Speaker 1: world because everybody got so charged up during the four
- 44:04Speaker 1: nations thing. But I think people misunderstand the thing that
- 44:08Speaker 1: makes the NHL a little bit different is they have
- 44:10Speaker 1: a pretty even distribution of players from all these different countries.
- 44:15Speaker 1: So you put something together like that, the we from
- 44:18Speaker 1: different countries rivalry thing, I feel like it's a little different.
- 44:21Speaker 1: You know what I mean? They have one where You
- 44:25Speaker 1: got to have 16 American players, eight international players. But
- 44:28Speaker 1: if it's more than eight international players or you don't
- 44:30Speaker 1: have up to the 16 NBA or American players, you
- 44:34Speaker 1: add more like they have to do things to make
- 44:36Speaker 1: sure that everybody gets to the minimum number. And then
- 44:38Speaker 1: it's some round robin shit that I don't really understand.
- 44:41Speaker 1: But my thing is, hey, man. The American players don't
- 44:45Speaker 1: care about it like that. And I don't think that
- 44:47Speaker 1: you're going to get solidarity just.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Of the world.
- 44:50Speaker 1: On the other side.
- 44:52Speaker 2: You were there. You were on the right path, but
- 44:54Speaker 2: you didn't go in the right house. You were on
- 44:56Speaker 2: the right block, but you didn't go in the right house.
- 44:59Speaker 2: If you want to do U.S. versus the world, just
- 45:01Speaker 2: make it U.S. versus the world, two teams. Let that
- 45:04Speaker 2: be it. It don't even have to be on this
- 45:06Speaker 2: country pride stuff, but I think you would evenly distribute
- 45:09Speaker 2: the teams between the U.S., in American players. That's the
- 45:12Speaker 2: intrigue right there. Let me see the U S versus
- 45:15Speaker 2: the world. It didn't need to be this round Robin
- 45:17Speaker 2: can try three team thing. It don't need to be
- 45:19Speaker 2: all that. Just give us U S versus the world.
- 45:22Speaker 2: That's it. Or if you want to make it North
- 45:23Speaker 2: America versus the world, whatever you want to, whatever you
- 45:25Speaker 2: want to do, but like this three team, that's too,
- 45:28Speaker 2: Three teams, round robin, four games, championship, 12 minutes. That's
- 45:32Speaker 2: way too much. That's way too much thinking. Just let
- 45:34Speaker 2: me know who's suiting up on this side, who's suiting
- 45:37Speaker 2: up on that side, and let's rob. Way too confusing.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I had not thought about the fact that the world
- 45:42Speaker 1: get Canada.
- 45:45Speaker 2: See, that's why I had slipped in that maybe it
- 45:47Speaker 2: needed to be North America versus the world.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I got to be honest with you, man. America in
- 45:53Speaker 1: trouble in this game.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:58Speaker 1: So the other team going to have Jokic, Luka, Giannis, Shea,
- 46:08Speaker 1: and Victor?
- 46:10Speaker 2: And Wemby. Yes.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:20Speaker 1: What?
- 46:21Speaker 2: What team do you guys try now? We got the Avengers.
- 46:23Speaker 2: What are we getting? Iron Man and Captain America? Can
- 46:26Speaker 2: we recruit the Hulk? What's going on?
- 46:27Speaker 1: Brother, America barely beat Serbia at the Olympics. We barely
- 46:33Speaker 1: beat France at the Olympics. Now we going to let
- 46:36Speaker 1: them all get together?
- 46:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Hey, hey, hey, hey. We ain't even started talking about, like,
- 46:44Speaker 1: Laurie Markkinen, right? Add a little Vucevic to the equation.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Like, there's some co-international players, but that's the thing. It's like,
- 46:53Speaker 2: if you want to capitalize on that, like, that's cool,
- 46:55Speaker 2: but you can't make it as contrived as it is.
- 46:57Speaker 2: And I think, too, a couple of factors why the
- 47:00Speaker 2: All-Star game lost some of its lust. Obviously, the whole
- 47:04Speaker 2: trying to make players care. Like, that's the thing. But
- 47:06Speaker 2: I think, and it's similar to... My thought is similar
- 47:09Speaker 2: to baseball in the All-Star Game as well. Before interleague play,
- 47:14Speaker 2: the only time you got to see these guys playing
- 47:17Speaker 2: was in the All-Star Game or the World Series. But
- 47:19Speaker 2: then with the NBA, now that everybody got league pass,
- 47:21Speaker 2: we're seeing everybody all the time. Whereas before... For folks
- 47:25Speaker 2: who didn't grow up with cable or you would occasionally
- 47:27Speaker 2: see the one nationally broadcast game, that might be your
- 47:30Speaker 2: only time to see the Jazz or see whomever. Now
- 47:34Speaker 2: we see all these dudes all the time. So the
- 47:36Speaker 2: novelty of seeing these dudes that one or two times
- 47:40Speaker 2: a year or playing together, that's gone. Plus, these dudes
- 47:43Speaker 2: move around so much anyway before... Like, the only time
- 47:46Speaker 2: you would see a Maloney Stockton play with Olajuwon was
- 47:48Speaker 2: an all-star team. But now, these dudes are already playing
- 47:50Speaker 2: together anyway, so that novelty is gone, and the overall
- 47:54Speaker 2: competitiveness is not there because these dudes don't really care.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I think we just need to drop one, like, Tyler
- 48:02Speaker 1: Hansbro type dude in there who can't turn it off
- 48:06Speaker 1: and who just really cares all the time. Like, you
- 48:08Speaker 1: remember that time that D-Wade broke Kobe's nose? In the
- 48:12Speaker 1: All-Star game? Like, you drop a Kobe into the game.
- 48:16Speaker 1: You're going to. I told you.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Or think about that Dallas All-Star game when they played
- 48:20Speaker 2: it at Jerry's World. Like, you had, like, LeBron came down, LeBron,
- 48:24Speaker 2: and Kobe defending LeBron. And Kobe, like, shoot it. Shoot, like,
- 48:28Speaker 2: I'm D-ing you up. That's what the people want to see. Right.
- 48:31Speaker 1: But I'll say this to be fair. It was only
- 48:33Speaker 1: a couple years ago with that whatever kind of ending
- 48:35Speaker 1: they call it. I forget the name of it. Um,
- 48:38Speaker 1: but it worked and it led to a competitive game
- 48:40Speaker 1: at the end. Like it can happen. I don't know
- 48:43Speaker 1: what exactly it comes to, but if you just drop
- 48:45Speaker 1: one maniac in here that no matter like somebody who
- 48:49Speaker 1: going to be the one to hard file in the
- 48:51Speaker 1: all-star game, you know what I'm saying? One maniac is
- 48:55Speaker 1: all we need. You tell me there's not one maniac.
- 48:58Speaker 2: And they quasi tried to do this last year when
- 49:01Speaker 2: they had like the G League All-Stars in there as
- 49:04Speaker 2: well because it's like, hey, we need to have some
- 49:06Speaker 2: humble dudes willing to fight. The only problem is the
- 49:08Speaker 2: general public, they don't care about them dudes. Like we
- 49:10Speaker 2: don't know them dudes. We don't care about them dudes.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Like you tried. No, you got to give us the
- 49:15Speaker 2: dudes we care about and you got to make it
- 49:17Speaker 2: seem like they care.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I mean. basketball is not fun without defense
- 49:22Speaker 1: right and look that was the pro bowl problem when
- 49:24Speaker 1: they and see the nfl had this option once they
- 49:26Speaker 1: realized that the dudes not only did not care it
- 49:29Speaker 1: was stupid for them to care right then they just
- 49:31Speaker 1: turn it into flag football There is no version of
- 49:34Speaker 1: that that you can do with basketball. Like, how can
- 49:37Speaker 1: you just turn this into something fun, right? Because the
- 49:42Speaker 1: centerpiece of All-Star Weekend has been, for history, the slam
- 49:45Speaker 1: dunk contest. And now... It just, it can't sustain us anymore, right? Like,
- 49:50Speaker 1: it's not possible to do enough to keep our interest.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And then nobody wants to participate because everybody's afraid of
- 49:57Speaker 1: getting embarrassed.
- 49:59Speaker 2: And that's the thing. It's like, previously, it was pride on, hey,
- 50:02Speaker 2: I'm the best dunker in the league, or I'm the
- 50:04Speaker 2: best shooter in the league here. Here's how... here's how
- 50:07Speaker 2: I prove how. And to your point about nobody wants
- 50:10Speaker 2: to get embarrassed, because the ultimate answer to all of
- 50:12Speaker 2: this would be a one-on-one tournament. Like, that's the ultimate.
- 50:14Speaker 2: But dudes aren't going to want to go out here
- 50:16Speaker 2: and play a knockout game or whatever because they're too
- 50:18Speaker 2: scared to get embarrassed. Like, if we got back to
- 50:22Speaker 2: the essential part of the competitiveness of, yo, I'm going
- 50:24Speaker 2: to have to whoop your ass. Let's do it. Dudes
- 50:27Speaker 2: would be up for that. The crowd would be into it.
- 50:29Speaker 2: You give us a one-on-one, it was dudes actually cared
- 50:32Speaker 2: about it.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Like, that's all the intrigue you need.
- 50:34Speaker 1: And keep it game to five, right? Make it intense.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Go get that.
- 50:41Speaker 2: It was funny. I was listening to a KG tell
- 50:44Speaker 2: a story about when he was with the Celtics and
- 50:47Speaker 2: Austin Rivers was what? A junior high school in practice.
- 50:50Speaker 2: And before practice came in, he was playing one-on-one with
- 50:53Speaker 2: Paul Pierce because that's how Paul Pierce liked to warm up.
- 50:56Speaker 2: and the amount of shit talking that a 16-year-old Austin
- 50:59Speaker 2: Rivers was doing to these NBA players. So he beat
- 51:01Speaker 2: Paul Pierce, then he beat Perkins, and then he threw
- 51:04Speaker 2: the ball at... He rolled the ball over to KG
- 51:06Speaker 2: and was like, check up. And KG was like... What
- 51:08Speaker 2: you talking about check up? He was like, he threw
- 51:10Speaker 2: it back to him. Like, check up. So KG was like, yo,
- 51:14Speaker 2: this little 16-year-old boy, I don't want to have to
- 51:15Speaker 2: unleash the dragon on him. So he dunked on KG
- 51:19Speaker 2: and then started screaming. It was like, check up. KG
- 51:21Speaker 2: was like, man, I had to tie up my shoes
- 51:23Speaker 2: and unleash the dragon on that boy and beat him 5-1. Like,
- 51:26Speaker 2: that's the level of competitiveness that we need in the
- 51:29Speaker 2: All-Star game where these dudes are willing to play the
- 51:31Speaker 2: one-on-one and it actually matters. Because that's when their pride
- 51:34Speaker 2: is on the line.
- 51:35Speaker 1: First of all, that explains a lot of Austin Rivers.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Just so you guys, the totality of the Austin Rivers
- 51:41Speaker 1: story is right there. Because I also think that it's
- 51:44Speaker 1: been far enough removed from the time where people don't
- 51:47Speaker 1: realize that that was supposed to be the guy. He
- 51:51Speaker 1: was a gigantic deal coming out of high school. I
- 51:54Speaker 1: also have to tell you, I saw on the internet
- 51:57Speaker 1: Brian Shaw telling a story and I've seen clips of
- 52:00Speaker 1: this podcast go around for a long time, so this
- 52:02Speaker 1: is not new. But he talked about when he got
- 52:04Speaker 1: to the Celtics and He had assumed that how good
- 52:07Speaker 1: could Larry Bird actually be? And he said that Larry
- 52:12Speaker 1: Bird challenged him and Reggie Lewis to a game of
- 52:16Speaker 1: one on two to seven. But he gets the ball first.
- 52:23Speaker 1: And Shaw said that he and Reggie Lewis won, but
- 52:28Speaker 1: only because Bird missed a point game at 6-0.
- 52:33Speaker 2: My God.
- 52:34Speaker 3: He said he was eating their asses off.
- 52:43Speaker 1: And talking to them the whole way.
- 52:44Speaker 3: He said he and McHale would be coming down every
- 52:48Speaker 3: game talking cash and.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Being like, ooh, those are bad white boys. Those are
- 52:55Speaker 1: bad white boys. I can't imagine the satisfaction that Larry
- 53:00Speaker 1: Bird had to take every time down the floor doing this.
- 53:03Speaker 1: And McHale, now that we know his get-down a little
- 53:06Speaker 1: bit better over the last few years, he's loving it. And,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you know, they said he was musty, too. He was
- 53:10Speaker 1: loving every minute of it.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Could you imagine a prime Bird being like an 88,
- 53:16Speaker 2: you know, 87, 86, 87 Bird playing a one-on-one at
- 53:20Speaker 2: an all-star weekend, game to five? Like, come on.
- 53:24Speaker 1: You just gotta hope.
- 53:24Speaker 2: He'll probably do it. Like, if he get ball first,
- 53:27Speaker 2: I think he does it. If I can get ball first,
- 53:29Speaker 2: I'm doing it.
- 53:29Speaker 1: He gets ball first, man. The only... How, like... How
- 53:35Speaker 1: late would Michael Jordan keep everybody there if he lost?
- 53:39Speaker 1: Three out of five on.
- 53:43Speaker 2: It. Look, real men play four out of seven. Seven
- 53:46Speaker 2: out of ten. Seven out of ten. What's up?
- 53:48Speaker 1: We're not leaving, right? They be like, hey, Mike, man,
- 53:51Speaker 1: the broadcast is over, dog. Saturday Night Live just came on, man.
- 53:57Speaker 1: You ain't trying to go to the club? Mike being
- 54:01Speaker 1: there just mad.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Like, hold up. Amar Rashad here. We got somebody who
- 54:06Speaker 2: can call the game. Tell him, Amar. Tell him. No, man.
- 54:12Speaker 1: It was somebody. I just don't know how you make
- 54:15Speaker 1: them care. And that's going to be the question. And
- 54:19Speaker 1: you can't. The way you might be able to make
- 54:21Speaker 1: them care is if you did it by age. But
- 54:24Speaker 1: you have to be very careful how you go about that. Like,
- 54:27Speaker 1: we see what happens to rookie sophomore or how that went.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I don't even know if they still use that format,
- 54:31Speaker 1: but the rookies get destroyed. Every year, because there's such
- 54:35Speaker 1: just such a giant difference. But yeah, you what is
- 54:39Speaker 1: what is the what is the inflection point or what
- 54:43Speaker 1: is the line?
- 54:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:45Speaker 1: That you divide and you got heat on both sides.
- 54:49Speaker 1: And also, you got to be careful with that USA
- 54:52Speaker 1: versus the world, because if the world team don't look
- 54:55Speaker 1: enough like the USA team, if you know what I mean,
- 54:58Speaker 1: you're going to have audiences cheering against America. You feel me? Like,
- 55:03Speaker 1: I guess it'll be different if you got Giannis and Shea.
- 55:06Speaker 1: But if you get out there with Jokic and Dodgich
- 55:10Speaker 1: and Laurie Markkinen, you know, that boy Pod's probably bringing
- 55:14Speaker 1: this 23 and me to try to get on the team.
- 55:18Speaker 1: You know what I mean? They going to be rooting
- 55:19Speaker 1: against America, dog. Like, I was proud of America during
- 55:25Speaker 1: 2024 because I thought America was going to root for Serbia,
- 55:28Speaker 1: but y'all didn't do that. Good job.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Hey, look, they might be rooting against America, but at
- 55:35Speaker 2: least they're rooting. At least they're watching. That is fair. Hey,
- 55:39Speaker 2: we got to do something.
- 55:41Speaker 1: That is fair.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Hey, we got to find a way.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Amen.
- 55:44Speaker 2: And if we've learned everything over the course of these
- 55:46Speaker 2: last several years, it's easy to find a rooting interest
- 55:52Speaker 2: when it comes to those things.
- 55:53Speaker 1: That is fair. I'll also tell you this. If you
- 55:54Speaker 1: want to find a way to get somebody to care,
- 55:56Speaker 1: we need to get Victor and Chet out there on
- 55:58Speaker 1: opposite teams. You're going to see some carrying in.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, absolutely. What was it? Because I always get
- 56:05Speaker 2: it mixed up. It was one that was motivated because
- 56:07Speaker 2: the other one was putting up numbers. I'm not sure.
- 56:09Speaker 1: They got beef going back to high school.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Legit beat, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You got to think
- 56:16Speaker 2: about it, too. It's comparable for me as a wrestling fan.
- 56:19Speaker 2: It's the Andre the Giant, Big John Stutt thing between
- 56:22Speaker 2: the two of them. It's like Andre the Giant always
- 56:25Speaker 2: hated Big John Stutt because Big John Stutt was a
- 56:26Speaker 2: big man. And Andre the Giant was like, I'm the
- 56:28Speaker 2: only big man in this game. And it's like, think
- 56:30Speaker 2: about it. If you're Chet or you're Wemmy and you've
- 56:32Speaker 2: always been the biggest dude, but yet there's another dude
- 56:35Speaker 2: who's also known on that side of town as the
- 56:37Speaker 2: big dude.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Uh-uh, uh-uh. The big dude who does little dude things. Like,
- 56:41Speaker 1: think about, like, what an amazing concept. Chet was to
- 56:45Speaker 1: us when we found out about him in high school
- 56:47Speaker 1: and then he's coming into college. Like, it was the
- 56:49Speaker 1: idea of Chet was amazing. Chet's not this. No, no.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Like, it's like Chet supersized. Yes. I don't know if
- 56:59Speaker 2: Wendy's still doing a Biggie meal, but that's what it is.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Wendy is Chet Biggie size.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Except he's Biggie size, but it also, like... it's
- 57:07Speaker 1: like instead of coming with fries, it come with like
- 57:10Speaker 1: gourmet shiitake mushrooms.
- 57:12Speaker 2: You know?
- 57:13Speaker 1: It's the handles that are like, what are you doing here?
- 57:16Speaker 2: It's different. It's different. It's different. And I think at
- 57:20Speaker 2: least with Wemby, people at least being patient to enjoy
- 57:23Speaker 2: it in real time. Yes. Because far too often when
- 57:26Speaker 2: we see glimpses of young players, it's like, just imagine
- 57:28Speaker 2: what he's going to be in four to five years. Like,
- 57:31Speaker 2: enjoy it now because we know special dudes that size.
- 57:34Speaker 2: I know. And the injury history that these guys have,
- 57:37Speaker 2: you know, I'm not putting them on the same plane,
- 57:38Speaker 2: but think about, you know, Porzingis and the things that
- 57:40Speaker 2: he was able to do at 7'3, or whomever. Like, hey,
- 57:44Speaker 2: just let this play out. Like, enjoy it while we
- 57:46Speaker 2: got it right now.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Think of how crazy it is, how much colder he
- 57:49Speaker 1: is than Porzingis.
- 57:51Speaker 2: Right. Right, right. Think about it. You're Porzingis. I'm 7'3,
- 57:55Speaker 2: and I'm playing up against this dude. I'm looking up
- 57:57Speaker 2: at him.
- 57:59Speaker 1: It's not just that he's blocking they shots, man. He
- 58:01Speaker 1: is pitching they shots.
- 58:03Speaker 2: Yeah, right, right. There's a level of aggressiveness, too, that
- 58:07Speaker 2: he's playing. Like, that, hey, we cool. Now, that's out
- 58:10Speaker 2: the window. Like, it's a switch with Wemby, too. Like,
- 58:13Speaker 2: he ain't all the way there yet, but you can, like,
- 58:15Speaker 2: that switch is turned on where it's like, all right, like, there's,
- 58:19Speaker 2: This different. Like, this different.
- 58:21Speaker 1: What?
- 58:21Speaker 2: Like, he playing like those, like, he playing from those
- 58:24Speaker 2: parts of Paris that ain't near the Eiffel Tower.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Like, he from those other, he playing like he from
- 58:29Speaker 2: them other parts.
- 58:30Speaker 1: You, uh, Nico would be cool with him, though, right?
- 58:32Speaker 1: He do play defense. There we go. Like, there we go. Like,
- 58:36Speaker 1: I'm saying, I want to get a running list of
- 58:38Speaker 1: all the players that Nico is like, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Because, look,
- 58:43Speaker 1: this is the thing about it, and it's because we
- 58:45Speaker 1: as a people are a little bit more powerless, but
- 58:49Speaker 1: It is hilarious. Like the black dude that just hates
- 58:52Speaker 1: white people is always hysterical because it comes up in
- 58:56Speaker 1: all these different weird ways. And we're like, we laugh
- 58:59Speaker 1: at our people under these circumstances because they're generally harmless. Nico,
- 59:05Speaker 1: if this if these two pieces of data that we
- 59:07Speaker 1: have received about him are indicative of a trade. is
- 59:10Speaker 1: the rare one to actually get some power to be
- 59:13Speaker 1: able to do something about this and what did he
- 59:15Speaker 1: do about it got his old black ass fired that's
- 59:18Speaker 1: what he did.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Look, he stood on business. I don't think it was
- 59:23Speaker 2: the right business, but he stood on something.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Look, if his thing was, Luka don't work hard enough,
- 59:28Speaker 1: this isn't the culture I want to build, I got it, man.
- 59:31Speaker 1: And he was willing to go down with the shift. Like,
- 59:35Speaker 1: there's something that I get to that. But then I
- 59:37Speaker 1: saw what he said about Jokic, and I was just like, oh, no,
- 59:41Speaker 1: you're just, you might be that guy.
- 59:46Speaker 2: What's the line you use? I'm inclined to think you
- 59:48Speaker 2: were haters?
- 59:50Speaker 1: Yes. I want to know when he wrote that down
- 59:54Speaker 1: on a piece of paper, what did everybody else say
- 59:56Speaker 1: when they saw that?
- 59:57Speaker 2: They were looking at the phone. Like, what's the Jeff
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Teague meme where they look at the phone?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Right. Like, that's when, if this was a locker room,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: that's when you lose the locker room.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Did you hear what he just said?
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: The same.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Like, he ain't serious, is he? Like, that's the thing, too. Like,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: when you can't tell if somebody's serious or not, he's like, ha, ha, ha. Yeah, yo,
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: get you dropped. Like, wait a minute. You serious? Like,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: you crazy.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Except he's not funny. So, like, Ghostface Killer, the great
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: example of, I can't tell if this is a joke.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm allowed to laugh. Right? This
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: is a different personality type with similar lunacy.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Oh, what a time, what a time. Shannon Pinn, check
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: him out. Afternoons, ESPN Radio, Freddie and Harry. By the way,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: it is always funny watching Harry tweet about doing Falcons
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: games as they are going because he still does that.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: But see, that's the thing. At least with Harry, like, see,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I know you got off that narcotic, but he can't though.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I know. He grew up with him and he played
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: for him.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: He can't get off their narcotic. Each and every week,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Mass Monday, see what Mass Erica put up. Each and
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: every Sunday, Falcons are known to let him on down. Yeah, man.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: And Pinnock's is not doing the job for him. Right.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: And, like, I hope... Look, Raheem, we're praying for you,
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: my boy. Yeah. We're praying for you, my boy.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Dog, it's all... They got brothers all over the place there.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: They're quarterback, the coach, the general manager, and.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. They trying their hardest, my brother. I appreciate you.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Absolutely.
