- 0:36Okay so autism and sensory processing issues.
- 0:39This month is sensory processing awareness month which is kind of
- 0:41cool because it's also Each day awareness month.
- 0:43So I wanted to do a video about sensory issues because I feel
- 0:46like it's kind of like the elephant in the room.
- 0:48Everybody knows that autistic people have sensory processing
- 0:51issues but nobody really addresses it and this is kind of
- 0:54because in a diagnosis type of sense, you can't get an
- 0:58independent diagnosis of sensory processing disorder.
- 1:01It has to be comorbid with autism like you know you could
- 1:03get autism and sensory processing disorder.
- 1:06Not just sensory processing disorder but that being said,
- 1:11why not talk about it in general.
- 1:12General. A lot of people miss this, a lot
- 1:14of people don't talk about it. So I teamed up with sound,
- 1:17stereo headphones to bring you this video this week and this
- 1:20video is sponsored by sounds tree.
- 1:22So autism and sensory processing disorder.
- 1:24Now, like I said, in the intro, people who have an Autism
- 1:27Spectrum Disorder, usually have a sensory processing disorder as
- 1:31a comorbid component, to them being on the autism spectrum.
- 1:34This means that lights and sounds and certain touches
- 1:37smells and temperature can really impact a the person's
- 1:41ability to just be In that moment, just be in this
- 1:45environment, right? And it could cause all things
- 1:47like meltdowns and burnout and a lot of overwhelming kind of
- 1:52stimulation from third-party senses.
- 1:54Now, this happens because sensory processing and sensory
- 1:58input a third-party data inputs. So the autistic brain has a
- 2:02different neurological kind of wiring to that of a
- 2:05neurotypical, brain or a person who is not autistic.
- 2:08And what happens is when you have sensory input through the
- 2:11center's like I smell or your site, or your, or sound, or
- 2:15touch, or taste, or whatever, basically, the signals go in,
- 2:19but they get mismatch and they hit a different place, which
- 2:21basically means that you might hear a word, or smell a smell,
- 2:25or hear a sound, and that sound smell or word can actually,
- 2:28cause you pain, not just reading it.
- 2:31As is what it is. This is why a lot of people on
- 2:33the autism spectrum. If I sit with food too, flirty
- 2:35with the clothing textures, they have their they're fussy with
- 2:38temperatures that sounds site. You know, you might see a lot of
- 2:41autistic people putting head. Long just to sit indoors and
- 2:44just have headphones on to have a bit of filter from the noise
- 2:48and stuff that's around them. And maybe wearing sunglasses
- 2:50indoors, I do that all the time. And in fact, I actually did a
- 2:53video All About hacks and tips for people who have sensory
- 2:57processing needs. And I'll leave that in a card
- 2:59above here and in the link in description down below so you
- 3:01can definitely check out that video.
- 3:03But more importantly, using those hacks will help reduce a
- 3:07lot of the or filter lot of the sensory input that you get from
- 3:10other things. Now, this Does happen because of
- 3:14the autism spectrum condition and autism in its full Integrity
- 3:17is a communication disorder under Communication in many
- 3:20forms. You know, it's social
- 3:22communication, social interaction is communicating
- 3:24with one's self and it is also communicating your needs to
- 3:28other people. But on top of that, you have
- 3:30sensory input and these sensory inputs are communicative
- 3:33Pathways that you're communicating with the world
- 3:36around you through the site. The smile, the sounds that
- 3:38taste, the texture is everything so this is why it causes so
- 3:41much. Issues with autistic people,
- 3:44it's not that they're being fussy, or they're fussy eaters
- 3:46are picky eaters or people who just be an awkward.
- 3:48They actually feel maybe physical pain, and some
- 3:52scenarios from these certain sensory input.
- 3:55Now I will have a lot more information, all about sensory

- 5:12And there's also pretty good. There's also actually really
- 5:15really good. I used this before I did 20 days
