- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gaddigal Land Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land Hayticks, I'm out and this is
- 0:14Speaker 1: two Broat Chicks, the show that shares tips, tig life
- 0:20Speaker 1: lessons and tips to make you rich in life.
- 0:22Speaker 2: That's it.
- 0:23Speaker 3: I've only been saying it every week for the last
- 0:26Speaker 3: seven billion years of my life, literally, and I will
- 0:30Speaker 3: be saying it for the next ten thousand years too.
- 0:32Speaker 2: How are you, Sally Bally Good Friday's chilly autumn morning.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm excited. The crisp has come. It has the crisp
- 0:42Speaker 2: has come.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Well, today we have a spicy little number that I
- 0:48Speaker 3: am so excited to get into and we are going
- 0:52Speaker 3: to be deinfluencing you with the things we think are
- 0:57Speaker 3: a cult yep, yep. So we decided to do this
- 1:01Speaker 3: because it's been a bit of a trending topic and
- 1:03Speaker 3: just a fun, little, fun little gas bag on the web,
- 1:07Speaker 3: on the world Wide Web, and we wanted to add
- 1:10Speaker 3: our little things that we think are cult and we
- 1:13Speaker 3: don't know what each other has brought to the table,
- 1:17Speaker 3: but I am ever so excited to get into it.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Before we do. What are you obsessed with this week?
- 1:24Speaker 2: This week I'm obsessed with the butterfly effect trend. That's
- 1:28Speaker 2: all over TikTok. Are you also obsessed? Yes, so if
- 1:34Speaker 2: you haven't seen it. Essentially, the butterfly effect trend points
- 1:38Speaker 2: out how one moment in your life has a domino
- 1:42Speaker 2: effect on so many different things, and that maybe if
- 1:46Speaker 2: you didn't go into that coffee shop one day, you
- 1:48Speaker 2: would have never met the love of your life like
- 1:50Speaker 2: three months later.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But do you have a butterfly effect moment you mind?
- 1:55Speaker 3: We've spoken about it a couple times. But starting our
- 1:59Speaker 3: old job, Like if I didn't start that job as
- 2:02Speaker 3: a shopping journalist, I wouldn't have met you, so like
- 2:06Speaker 3: this we wouldn't even be here, Like this whole podcast
- 2:09Speaker 3: wouldn't be in existence. I wouldn't have met someone that
- 2:13Speaker 3: I previously dated, which was why I ended up moving
- 2:16Speaker 3: to Bondi, which is how I met like majority of
- 2:20Speaker 3: my best friends now, which is also how I met Rob,
- 2:22Speaker 3: my now partner. Yeah, like or like every single thing
- 2:28Speaker 3: in my life wouldn't exist if it wasn't for like
- 2:32Speaker 3: taking that job, which is like crazy, like I can
- 2:36Speaker 3: literally track so much shit back to it that like
- 2:40Speaker 3: as much as there was you know, some less than
- 2:43Speaker 3: ideal times at that job.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm so thankful.
- 2:46Speaker 3: The positives outweigh and the narrative and the kind of
- 2:52Speaker 3: journey that it ended up with.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But yeah, what about you. I have one that's like
- 2:58Speaker 2: pretty random. When I was in high school, like probably
- 3:02Speaker 2: when I was like a year eight or something, I
- 3:04Speaker 2: remember A Current Affair did this big expose on emo
- 3:08Speaker 2: culture and how it was really like damaging for the
- 3:10Speaker 2: youth and all of the negative impacts that emo music
- 3:13Speaker 2: was having on the young people of Australia at the times.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And I wrote this big grant about it on MySpace,
- 3:21Speaker 2: and I think I like started a petition for people
- 3:24Speaker 2: to like boycott a Current Affair and like send these
- 3:26Speaker 2: letters into them and was talking about the importance of
- 3:29Speaker 2: the community and blah blah. And I actually had a
- 3:33Speaker 2: few people find me on MySpace through that, who I've
- 3:37Speaker 2: ended up being friends with still like eighteen years later,
- 3:41Speaker 2: have been to their weddings, They've traveled from Brisbane to
- 3:44Speaker 2: like come to shows with me, Like we're still great
- 3:46Speaker 2: friends to this day. Have matching tattoos with some of them.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Like imagine if I never posted or I never saw
- 3:53Speaker 2: that A Current Affair spot. But yeah, I think that
- 3:56Speaker 2: trend's really cute. It is cute. I love it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I saw one of those like, what do you mean
- 3:59Speaker 3: if we didn't both go to the gym at the
- 4:00Speaker 3: same time?
- 4:01Speaker 2: And I was like, that could never be.
- 4:04Speaker 3: But anyway, my obsession of the week is a study
- 4:07Speaker 3: that I saw, and it's the habits that.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Make you a millionaire. I'm listening. Do you have a
- 4:12Speaker 2: note pad, pen and paper?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Done?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Okay?
- 4:16Speaker 3: So a study says that making your bed every day
- 4:19Speaker 3: makes you two hundred and six percent more likely to
- 4:23Speaker 3: become a millionaire.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Wow, I'm on my way literally.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Other common millionaire habits include reading for thirty minutes a day,
- 4:31Speaker 3: waking up three hours before work, failed that one, writing
- 4:37Speaker 3: to do lists, controlling emotions.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Bomb bomb well, We're to be broke? Well whereut? And
- 4:47Speaker 2: being friendly to others.
- 4:49Speaker 3: So this study came from Randall Bell, who found that
- 4:54Speaker 3: small daily routine such as making your bed every morning,
- 4:57Speaker 3: increase the likelihood of financial success by two hundred and
- 5:00Speaker 3: six percent. Avoiding negative habits like gossiping at work is
- 5:05Speaker 3: just as crucial as building good habits. Researchers suggest starting
- 5:15Speaker 3: with one or two habits at a time to create
- 5:17Speaker 3: lasting meaningful changes that can lead to financial prosperity.
- 5:21Speaker 2: How good is that that adds up? Because it's basically
- 5:25Speaker 2: discipline and people skills. Yes, well there you go, chicks.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Are you going to start waking up three hours before work?
- 5:33Speaker 3: Can we start a couple of hours later?
- 5:37Speaker 2: I can't start at my hand?
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:41Speaker 2: No more? Nine am whip? Okay? Should we get into
- 5:44Speaker 2: our things we think are a cult? All's to do it.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I think you know what's coming. But things that I
- 5:56Speaker 3: think are a cult la Boo boos and study angels.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Definitely, and slate blind boxers in general.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Literally, I've done some little Tapa Tapa tapa research and
- 6:08Speaker 3: I've also seen a few people say this and I
- 6:11Speaker 3: have to agree.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And for a very long time I didn't get it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I was like, well, one.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Of these weird little babies, Yeah, what are the weird little.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Freaky little things?
- 6:23Speaker 3: And if you haven't seen La Boo boos, which like
- 6:26Speaker 3: check your WiFi, But they're these freaky little doll trinkets
- 6:32Speaker 3: and they're basically like the new girlipop market toy thing
- 6:37Speaker 3: obsession session sours educating me earlier this week about the
- 6:42Speaker 3: fake market that also surrounds it, because there's Laboo Boo,
- 6:46Speaker 3: which is the original, and then Laffufoo Lafufoo Yeah, which are.
- 6:49Speaker 2: The fake ones. And these have been booming.
- 6:55Speaker 3: They've been around for a couple of years, but in
- 6:57Speaker 3: twenty twenty four they started taking off and now they
- 7:00Speaker 3: are like the it girl trinket toy. There is over
- 7:05Speaker 3: one point two million posts under Labuobu on TikTok Wow,
- 7:10Speaker 3: which is like when you think about that just in general,
- 7:14Speaker 3: and that majority of those would be unboxings, you can
- 7:17Speaker 3: start to kind of get an idea of how much revenue.
- 7:21Speaker 2: This cult is bringing in. Yeah, and that's just the
- 7:24Speaker 2: people who are posting to all the people who were
- 7:27Speaker 2: just doing it in the privacy of their own homes. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And I will be honest with you.
- 7:31Speaker 3: I did try to get some for us to unbox
- 7:35Speaker 3: on this episode and it was impossible.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it was impossible.
- 7:41Speaker 3: There was like lines of two hundred plus people trying
- 7:46Speaker 3: to get them, and I was like, oh my.
- 7:48Speaker 2: God, this is not worth it to me.
- 7:51Speaker 3: But the Labubu the Monster's Big inter Energy series released
- 7:56Speaker 3: last week and completely sold out worldwide.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It is now the number one.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Collectible's release ever on a resale platform. Stock X with
- 8:08Speaker 3: an average resale price of two hundred and.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Eight dollars USD.
- 8:13Speaker 3: What an average which is a twenty four percent premium
- 8:18Speaker 3: compared to the original price, which is one hundred and
- 8:21Speaker 3: sixty a USD. That's still so expensive, I know.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Is that for a singular labuo boo. I think it's for.
- 8:29Speaker 3: The box potential box with the six pack or something. Yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 3: that was from a Vogue Business article. So also according
- 8:37Speaker 3: to Variety, labooboos are being resold online for up to
- 8:43Speaker 3: seven hundred dollars.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Seven hundred dollars.
- 8:47Speaker 3: And this is where and why I think it is cold,
- 8:52Speaker 3: because that is wild to me. The fact that as well,
- 8:57Speaker 3: we've seen the trend cycle at Plate here like Sonny
- 9:02Speaker 3: angels were like the trinket, they were the trending trinket
- 9:07Speaker 3: and then so many people have them. We had our
- 9:09Speaker 3: dopamine here and they're definitely still trending. They're not done,
- 9:13Speaker 3: you know, But now it's the labooboo, and you know,
- 9:17Speaker 3: in six months or less we'll probably see another one
- 9:21Speaker 3: that investing seven hundred dollars.
- 9:23Speaker 2: If you love them, if you.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Love lea booboo, and if you think you're going to
- 9:27Speaker 3: love your labooboo forever, and it's going to be a
- 9:30Speaker 3: little toy, and you want to spend seven hundred dollars,
- 9:32Speaker 3: and you've got that disposable income, go for it.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Love that for you.
- 9:36Speaker 3: But spending hundreds of dollars on like a trinket that's
- 9:41Speaker 3: just trending for the moment, that's not necessarily the most
- 9:45Speaker 3: financially savvy choice. Absolutely, However, it does kind of come
- 9:52Speaker 3: into this thing that we're seeing.
- 9:55Speaker 2: At the moment.
- 9:55Speaker 3: And I do believe that it's like a result of
- 9:59Speaker 3: the toxic news cycle and burnout, and it's the rise
- 10:04Speaker 3: of like kidult trends and the healing of your inner child.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So the Australian blind box market, how much do you
- 10:11Speaker 3: think it's worth?
- 10:13Speaker 2: Hmmmmm, stab in the dark, I'll say one hundred million dollars. Wow.
- 10:18Speaker 3: The Australian blind box market is estimated to be one
- 10:22Speaker 3: hundred and seventy million in twenty twenty four.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's almost double what I thought in one year. And
- 10:29Speaker 2: I do think it's.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Also comes into it this like gambling element app so
- 10:36Speaker 3: loot ly right.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It's given cold definitely, it's giving devout following and like
- 10:44Speaker 2: pouring your money into something that you don't necessarily know
- 10:47Speaker 2: what the outcome is, right, and that's where you get
- 10:50Speaker 2: the dover Maain hair and potentially with the goal of
- 10:52Speaker 2: getting a high value back of being like I'm going
- 10:54Speaker 2: to pay thirty dollars to get this La Bubu, but
- 10:58Speaker 2: it could be worth seven hundred. Who knows who is
- 11:02Speaker 2: spending seven hundred? The police report? Why not? Why not? Fully?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Do you know what I realized their original blind box
- 11:16Speaker 2: experience was chocolate Yowie's and Kinder Surprise eggs are.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Literally, yeah, yeah, that's what I want to be the
- 11:25Speaker 3: next trending trinket.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Going back.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a yowe Easter egg and when I
- 11:31Speaker 3: was opening it, I really.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Was like geting excited and being like, oh my god,
- 11:35Speaker 2: I wonder what I'll get. And then I was like,
- 11:37Speaker 2: holy shit, this is my Laboo boo, this is my
- 11:40Speaker 2: life gambling. It's Yowie.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I mean, if we're gonna look at the forms of gambling,
- 11:46Speaker 3: I do believe sunny Angels and La Boo boos to
- 11:49Speaker 3: be the healthier choice.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And it is fun.
- 11:51Speaker 3: It's so fun unboxing a sunny Angel and La Boo
- 11:56Speaker 3: boos and like all that stuff that I'm like absolutely
- 12:00Speaker 3: not aiding on it because it does come into this notion.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And I'm also going to throw jelly cats into this.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so like sunny angels, jelly cats, la Boo boo
- 12:11Speaker 3: dolls are all a part of this shopping trend that
- 12:15Speaker 3: I think is about healing your inner child. And it's
- 12:18Speaker 3: not just because they're cute, but it's helping adults like
- 12:21Speaker 3: reconnect with a part of themselves that they didn't realize
- 12:24Speaker 3: needed a bit of attention, and it is like the
- 12:27Speaker 3: inner child, the softness as well as why I think
- 12:30Speaker 3: women are so tied into it is because it's like
- 12:35Speaker 3: when you were younger and you actually wouldn't know what.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Gift you were getting.
- 12:39Speaker 3: You wouldn't know what present you were getting for Christmas
- 12:42Speaker 3: or your birthday, whereas now it's a little bit different
- 12:44Speaker 3: and be like.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Well what do you want for your Birthday'll be like, oh,
- 12:46Speaker 2: I like these earrings.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And you don't really get that element of surprise anymore
- 12:51Speaker 3: as you get older, and opening a blind box just
- 12:54Speaker 3: taps into the long lost feeling of surprise and joy
- 12:58Speaker 3: or like the Cereal box toy, all the kinder surprise,
- 13:01Speaker 3: like exactly what that is? And collecting jelly Cats and
- 13:06Speaker 3: Sunny Angels is like a bit of a hobby now,
- 13:10Speaker 3: but it's also very soothing and a way to reclaim playfulness,
- 13:16Speaker 3: which I think there's no harm in that. It's just
- 13:19Speaker 3: it's just a slippery slope. So I also just want
- 13:22Speaker 3: to finish it that as much as I think it's
- 13:24Speaker 3: a cult, if you have been impulse buying like jelly
- 13:28Speaker 3: cats or Sunny Angels or trading mystery toys, you're not
- 13:32Speaker 3: regressing your healing and you're having fun. So I'm like,
- 13:35Speaker 3: pop off, Yeah, just don't buy one for seven hundred
- 13:38Speaker 3: dollars please.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I hate the thing that I think is a cult
- 13:42Speaker 2: is the Jelina fandom, and I'm talking the Justin Bieber
- 13:46Speaker 2: and Selena Gomez fandom. Oh my god, they broke up
- 13:52Speaker 2: in twenty eighteen, and we're still talking about it as
- 13:57Speaker 2: if they're a couple and they're star cross lovers and
- 14:00Speaker 2: they're going to end up together. Like just as recently
- 14:03Speaker 2: as maybe a month ago, there was a seven part
- 14:06Speaker 2: documentary released on TikTok tracking Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez's
- 14:12Speaker 2: like timelines over the years and how Hailey Bieber has
- 14:16Speaker 2: allegedly been copying Selena.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Oh I think I saw this and it was like
- 14:20Speaker 3: Selena Gomez wore a white tank in twenty and fifteen,
- 14:24Speaker 3: and now Hailey Bieber's wearing a white tank in twenty
- 14:27Speaker 3: and seventeen.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Again, guys, I also am wearing a white tank. Oh
- 14:31Speaker 2: my god, she's after Dustin. I'm copying Selena. But yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and like tracking Hailey Bieber's alleged obsession with Justin Bieber
- 14:39Speaker 2: and how her relationship with him was a part of
- 14:41Speaker 2: this like decade long master plan. Keep in mind, like
- 14:46Speaker 2: I said, they broke up in twenty eighteen, they were
- 14:50Speaker 2: also on and off for a long time prior to that.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Since then, Justin and Hailey got married in twenty eighteen,
- 15:00Speaker 2: they've had a baby, and Selena Gomez is engaged to
- 15:04Speaker 2: Benny Blanco. But we're still getting like documentaries and conspiracy theories,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and anytime Hayley does anything or Selena does anything, that's
- 15:14Speaker 2: the automatic reaction like how can we tie this together?
- 15:18Speaker 2: And I think that, you know, every good cult needs
- 15:21Speaker 2: some charismatic cult leaders, and Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
- 15:25Speaker 2: definitely tick those boxes. And also like an emotional devotion
- 15:31Speaker 2: that people are really really invested. It was like people
- 15:35Speaker 2: felt like they were part of that relationship as well,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and they still do.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yeah, when they broke up, people felt like they got
- 15:42Speaker 3: broken up with It's.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Been almost ten years, what is going on.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It's just really sad that like Justin Bieber still continuously
- 15:55Speaker 3: has to make statements defending his wife and his child,
- 16:01Speaker 3: and that like Hailey Beaber is a stronger woman than
- 16:05Speaker 3: I am, because like it is relentless and the bullying
- 16:08Speaker 3: and shit talking that she has to cop as well
- 16:11Speaker 3: as like Selena Gomez, like both those women, Yeah cop
- 16:15Speaker 3: way more.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Like negative attention than is needed.
- 16:19Speaker 3: That Like some people need some more group chats, right,
- 16:23Speaker 3: some people need to have more group chats with their
- 16:25Speaker 3: friends and discuss there and then move on.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I completely agree. Yeah, because they were dating when they
- 16:34Speaker 2: were teenagers. Do you know what I think?
- 16:36Speaker 3: Though, I don't think they'll like unfortunately, and this is
- 16:38Speaker 3: probably a very pessimistic approach, I don't think they will
- 16:42Speaker 3: ever outgrow this narrative. I think it will be the
- 16:46Speaker 3: like modern day in Asterix Brad Angelina and Jennifer Aniston. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 3: narrative that like.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Still to this day, people are like Team ten, Team
- 16:59Speaker 2: age yeah, it's still something that people romanticized twenty years
- 17:03Speaker 2: like yeah, and feel passionate about. I'm just like, I
- 17:06Speaker 2: wonder if like either Selena or Justin ever came out
- 17:13Speaker 2: and just said it and weren't talking and what like,
- 17:17Speaker 2: we're like, it's over, stops saying this. It's like no,
- 17:21Speaker 2: but not in smoke and mirrors, because they'll be like,
- 17:25Speaker 2: they'll talk about it in sort of like roundabout terms.
- 17:28Speaker 2: But if they were, like Justin and I broke up
- 17:31Speaker 2: in twenty eighteen, I've moved on, we don't talk. I
- 17:35Speaker 2: have no feelings for him, and they just said something. No,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you're right, I've just fact checked yeah, because I'm But
- 17:43Speaker 2: also part of me, which the conspiracy theorist in me,
- 17:47Speaker 2: is like, do they not say anything so that people
- 17:50Speaker 2: keep so people keep talking? I actually wouldn't just spur
- 17:54Speaker 2: more hate.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I just I can't imagine what it would be like
- 18:00Speaker 3: continuously associated to an X I dated ten years ago.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I need everyone to think about who they dated ten
- 18:06Speaker 3: years ago and think about whether or not you still
- 18:09Speaker 3: want to be associated to that person. Second, bet you
- 18:12Speaker 3: you don't want to, and you post a TikTok about
- 18:14Speaker 3: your eyebrows and then that all of a sudden, you're
- 18:17Speaker 3: just taken off the tails you want, just to be exactly.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's a s no.
- 18:23Speaker 3: The comparison of the I think we've spoken about it
- 18:26Speaker 3: a few times on the pod, but it's just it's wild.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And I really can't think of any other younger celebrity
- 18:35Speaker 3: couple that has gone through the same kind of scrutiny
- 18:39Speaker 3: and spotlight as those two.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Not in the same with the same fierceness. I would
- 18:45Speaker 2: say that one another example that comes to mind for me,
- 18:48Speaker 2: and they never even dated, is Paul Mescal and Daisy
- 18:51Speaker 2: Edgar Jones, but.
- 18:52Speaker 3: That doesn't the same hatred, same level. But in terms
- 18:56Speaker 3: of that is just a shipping. That's like I still
- 18:58Speaker 3: think there's a cult like following for that, like following
- 19:03Speaker 3: for poor Mescal and guess what, we're fucking in a bit,
- 19:06Speaker 3: who's the leader, We're the president.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Okay. My next thing that I think is a cult.
- 19:14Speaker 3: I feel very passionately about this is car giveaways on TikTok.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yes, it's giving cult.
- 19:20Speaker 3: It's giving scam and mansion giveaways to what the fuck?
- 19:25Speaker 3: I genuinely hand on heart and begging someone who has
- 19:31Speaker 3: won a car giveaway or cash giveaway or mansion giveaway
- 19:35Speaker 3: on TikTok, raise your hand, let yourself be known to
- 19:40Speaker 3: the court, because you don't like they're Genuinely, I've never
- 19:44Speaker 3: seen anyone post about winning them. And that's not to
- 19:49Speaker 3: say they don't because legally, I'm like, surely someone's got
- 19:52Speaker 3: to win it, but I just find the narrative around
- 19:56Speaker 3: them and like they're just slimy to me. It's so
- 20:01Speaker 3: slimmy because it's this lottery of being like, someone's.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Got to win it today, could it be you?
- 20:08Speaker 3: And I'm like, so, if you haven't seen these, let
- 20:10Speaker 3: me give a little bit of context. But basically, they're
- 20:12Speaker 3: these social media giveaways that are considered a lottery giveaway
- 20:16Speaker 3: because you have to invest your money in order to
- 20:19Speaker 3: go into the running. So this would either look like
- 20:23Speaker 3: literally buying a ticket, which.
- 20:26Speaker 2: One time I nearly did. It was like a Suzuki
- 20:28Speaker 2: Jimney and it was like ten years ago, and I
- 20:29Speaker 2: was like, what am I doing? There's a low point,
- 20:32Speaker 2: there's a low point in.
- 20:33Speaker 3: The life, and or you have to spend a certain
- 20:37Speaker 3: amount of money with that brand.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yeah, right, there's two ways to look at it.
- 20:43Speaker 3: If you already shop with that brand, and you're already
- 20:45Speaker 3: going to buy something and that puts you in the
- 20:46Speaker 3: running pop off. You're already getting something in exchange for
- 20:51Speaker 3: the money that you're putting in. I don't think that's
- 20:53Speaker 3: a scam. So, like, for example, I think White Fox
- 20:57Speaker 3: do them all the time, which you know, Whitefog is
- 21:00Speaker 3: a people have critiques, yes, and some incredibly valid, right,
- 21:05Speaker 3: They're just a brand that I know does a lot
- 21:07Speaker 3: of like car giveaways, right, and so if you spend
- 21:10Speaker 3: fifty dollars, you get your dress, but you also go
- 21:13Speaker 3: on the running and like you got a dress for
- 21:15Speaker 3: fifty dollars. So I'm like, that's not giving scam. But
- 21:19Speaker 3: the like cargiveaways that it's like, do you want twenty
- 21:21Speaker 3: five thousand dollars casual this twenty sixty four range row
- 21:25Speaker 3: for a car And I'm like what and.
- 21:27Speaker 2: They're like we it's got to go within twenty four
- 21:29Speaker 2: hours quick.
- 21:30Speaker 3: And then you go to the site and it's like
- 21:32Speaker 3: the the ticket's like forty dollars, yeah, And all that
- 21:35Speaker 3: does is put you in the running, yeah, and you
- 21:37Speaker 3: don't get anything else, And I'm like that's crazy.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just what's kind of sad.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It's really sad, and I think it's also preying on
- 21:48Speaker 3: vulnerable people online who don't understand like what the regulations
- 21:53Speaker 3: are and that the chances are incredibly limited. Like we
- 21:58Speaker 3: obviously have a bit more education around gambling in terms
- 22:02Speaker 3: of pokerm machines and casinos that like, people go into
- 22:05Speaker 3: that most of the.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Time knowing that, like it's a chance game.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Whereas with these giveaways, it doesn't necessarily feel like that's
- 22:14Speaker 3: the attitude towards them.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's like, oh, this person is so lovely, this person
- 22:19Speaker 2: is so nice.
- 22:20Speaker 3: They're giving away a car, what a beautiful of course,
- 22:23Speaker 3: let me buy it, No bitch. They're making millions off
- 22:29Speaker 3: people literally just giving them money.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Well, it's not a charity like cult yeah, it's not
- 22:34Speaker 2: a charity. It's cap yeah. And there's always like one
- 22:38Speaker 2: person front facing again the cult leader that I think
- 22:42Speaker 2: is like this charismatic personality being like do you want
- 22:46Speaker 2: to win? Blah blah, and like you said, putting the
- 22:47Speaker 2: time pressure on. It's like emotional manipulation. It's culty, yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 2: and please just never do it. I just want to know, Like,
- 22:55Speaker 2: like you said, somebody shout off in the comments on
- 22:59Speaker 2: Spotify and let us know if you or anybody has
- 23:02Speaker 2: ever won one of these, because I reckon, we're not
- 23:05Speaker 2: going to get a single car, terrifying me.
- 23:07Speaker 3: And every time I see one come up, I like
- 23:09Speaker 3: block it, or Mark is not interested, or I watch
- 23:13Speaker 3: it and I click the link so I use their
- 23:15Speaker 3: marketing spend. I'm like, it's like probably like one cent
- 23:20Speaker 3: in their entire marketing badget.
- 23:21Speaker 2: But I'm like, eh, I mean stick it to the man. Okay.
- 23:25Speaker 2: My next cult is kind of related to that one
- 23:29Speaker 2: in a way, and it's wellness MLMs. Oh you know
- 23:36Speaker 2: when you get an Instagram DM request from somebody that
- 23:40Speaker 2: you went to high school with that you haven't spoken
- 23:41Speaker 2: to in twelve years, and it's like high lovely, not that.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And it's always like some sort of wellness training course,
- 23:50Speaker 2: maybe a nutrition course or like something to make passive
- 23:55Speaker 2: income from home. Do you know what it is?
- 23:58Speaker 3: Do you know what the biggest cult in the wellness
- 24:00Speaker 3: space is fucking greens powder.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Fucking Greens powder. Every time a video.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Comes up on my TikTok and it's like this literally
- 24:10Speaker 3: gave me the glow up of the century, this one
- 24:12Speaker 3: product that literally changed my life. They're going off for
- 24:16Speaker 3: five minutes and then bang the toumbs of the table
- 24:19Speaker 3: and it's a fucking greens powder. And that's not to
- 24:22Speaker 3: say that all greens Powder is a bad or a cult,
- 24:24Speaker 3: but I swear there's this one model.
- 24:28Speaker 2: And they're all affiliates.
- 24:31Speaker 3: It's all a pyramid scheme, and it's like you go
- 24:34Speaker 3: on and it's like they will not tell you where
- 24:36Speaker 3: it's from. You have to click the link in the
- 24:39Speaker 3: bio because that's how they track their affiliate revenue, like
- 24:43Speaker 3: they will in the comments. If someone's never telling you
- 24:46Speaker 3: the name of something and they're never telling you the brand,
- 24:49Speaker 3: and all they respond to a product recommendation is the
- 24:52Speaker 3: link is in my bio. The link is in my bio. Yep,
- 24:54Speaker 3: it's just in my bio. That's an affiliate link. There
- 24:56Speaker 3: is no chance it's not because they want you're going
- 24:59Speaker 3: straight Google and typing it in because they can't track that.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Greens powders man, Yeah, definitely, And again I think it's
- 25:08Speaker 2: like it's pretty sad, like especially the ones where you
- 25:11Speaker 2: have to purchase the product and then you're selling it,
- 25:14Speaker 2: or you have to purchase the training program and then
- 25:17Speaker 2: you're selling it. So people like kicking Kathy King when
- 25:19Speaker 2: she purchases all the lingerie. Yes, like the old school
- 25:23Speaker 2: ones are like tup aware avon lingerie parties like sex
- 25:29Speaker 2: toy parties back in the day as well. That one
- 25:31Speaker 2: sounds fun, Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 3: I mean maybe you're getting you're getting something out of that. Yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 3: that's different bank pep back.
- 25:35Speaker 2: But the modern day one is yeah, like the wellness powders,
- 25:40Speaker 2: the training courses on how to learn how to invest
- 25:44Speaker 2: from home or start your own gods, the business ones,
- 25:47Speaker 2: And I'm like, their business is you paying them? Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 2: and that's how it started a business. Their business is
- 25:54Speaker 2: tricking you. Yeah. And it's obviously so frustrating when you
- 25:58Speaker 2: see these videos and you're like, leave me alone. But
- 26:01Speaker 2: also part of me feels so sad because the people
- 26:04Speaker 2: who are involved in this shit a lot of the
- 26:05Speaker 2: time have been manipulated. Yes, which again is where the
- 26:09Speaker 2: cult like, because you're if you're putting a lot of
- 26:14Speaker 2: money down to get into this scheme and thinking, great,
- 26:17Speaker 2: this is going to be an amazing opportunity for make
- 26:19Speaker 2: a passive income, which I think for a lot of people,
- 26:22Speaker 2: especially young women who are mothers and are trying to
- 26:25Speaker 2: figure out how to work out like a work life
- 26:27Speaker 2: balance and work from home. You're putting a lot of
- 26:30Speaker 2: money down and then you're having to like market this
- 26:32Speaker 2: thing to try and get your affiliate or pay back,
- 26:35Speaker 2: you know, get revenue on the money that you've put down.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Like anytime I see call outs online being like we're
- 26:41Speaker 3: looking for people who want to work from home and
- 26:44Speaker 3: have their own business and just social media, like if
- 26:47Speaker 3: you want to create content away from home a little
- 26:49Speaker 3: and I'm like, but what.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Is it exactly? But what is it? Yeah, tell me
- 26:52Speaker 2: what it is. If it seems too good to be true,
- 26:55Speaker 2: it very likely is it? Probably is? Yeah?
- 26:57Speaker 3: Agreed?
- 26:58Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I really want to say that doesn't mean all greens
- 27:02Speaker 3: Powders are a cult, no, but there.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Is a certain one that I'm like cult. Yeah, it's
- 27:06Speaker 2: fucking weird. Okay.
- 27:08Speaker 3: My next cult, which I am a very proud member of,
- 27:12Speaker 3: might I add is the Kmart cult.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yes, bitch with a CAUs.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Literally I love this cult, slay, I love every member
- 27:24Speaker 3: of it. But there is a certain level the Kmart
- 27:28Speaker 3: cult is like also the girl is at nine pm
- 27:31Speaker 3: in their pajamas that are like, let's got a kmar Yes,
- 27:34Speaker 3: go off, But I was reading an article and this
- 27:37Speaker 3: is also why Kmart is a cult. And it's that
- 27:40Speaker 3: eighty eight percent of Australian households purchase from Kmart annually.
- 27:46Speaker 3: According to Yahoo Finance, eighty eight percent of Australian households have.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Bought something from Kmart in the year. Yeah, that's it,
- 27:54Speaker 2: check out. I'm like, what are the other twelve percent doing? It?
- 27:57Speaker 2: Must not be a cam I in their suburb or something.
- 27:59Speaker 3: But came Art's resurgence is very likely attributed to the
- 28:03Speaker 3: private label brand Ancho, which now accounts for approximately eighty
- 28:09Speaker 3: five percent of the retailer's range.
- 28:12Speaker 2: That makes sense, yep, with the rise of their popularity
- 28:15Speaker 2: as well, because like all of our favorite products I
- 28:19Speaker 2: feel like from Kmart are the Ancho products.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Yeah, And you can really see it in the virality
- 28:25Speaker 3: of for example, their fashion at the moment, like the
- 28:29Speaker 3: pajamas from Kmart a going viral. I would say, literally
- 28:33Speaker 3: every single month. I think Camart really listens to what
- 28:36Speaker 3: users need, yeah, and try to create that even in
- 28:41Speaker 3: terms of like tech tools you know. Yeah, I was
- 28:43Speaker 3: going to say, with the km Art tech I find
- 28:46Speaker 3: that it solves problems I didn't actually know I had
- 28:50Speaker 3: I could actually say that with every single products from
- 28:54Speaker 3: came up, being like.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I need this. Yeah, no I did, and like a
- 28:57Speaker 2: lot of the time, it genuinely my life for the better.
- 29:01Speaker 2: And this is obviously not an ad I was once.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I'm just saying, but that's why we're in the cult.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I think as well, the cult we have to address that.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Like cult nature is that you go into km up
- 29:11Speaker 3: for one thing and you walk out with seven and
- 29:14Speaker 3: you're like fuck, the store.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Is designed with that exact thing in mind, seriously.
- 29:20Speaker 3: And I also do think that Kmut's rise to cult
- 29:25Speaker 3: has also been a result of the severe cost of
- 29:29Speaker 3: living crisis and the fact that people cannot afford to
- 29:32Speaker 3: be shopping elsewhere, and that they've moved into a space
- 29:36Speaker 3: of being able to bring pieces that people want to
- 29:39Speaker 3: wear and want to buy. Because I'll be so real,
- 29:42Speaker 3: when we were going, Okama did not have cool clothes.
- 29:45Speaker 2: No, no, like Cama did not have cool clothes even
- 29:48Speaker 2: when I was a little girl, Like, oh my god,
- 29:49Speaker 2: that's so nice.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Like they've lifted their game to be able to
- 29:53Speaker 3: give Australians affordable items, which I think is amazing.
- 29:57Speaker 2: And I think that is definitely how they have he
- 30:01Speaker 2: hath Risen baby like and also the accessibility for people,
- 30:06Speaker 2: like you really can throw a stone and hit three kmarts,
- 30:09Speaker 2: like they're pretty much everywhere, which if you want to
- 30:13Speaker 2: go in and try on clothes, and because they do
- 30:16Speaker 2: offer like great size inclusivity, like that's something that's going
- 30:20Speaker 2: to get a lot of people in the store as well.
- 30:22Speaker 2: And then yeah, I'm going to pick up some socks
- 30:24Speaker 2: and some new pj's on the way. And the kmart
- 30:26Speaker 2: run is a rite of passage.
- 30:28Speaker 3: It's an Australian right of passage and I actually think
- 30:31Speaker 3: it should be on the citizenship test. Citizen, you should
- 30:36Speaker 3: have to do a kmart run, a super quick one
- 30:39Speaker 3: to kind of also keep on the brain trends of
- 30:41Speaker 3: what I think is a cult? Do you want to
- 30:43Speaker 3: take one?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Guess what Mecca? Oh definitely is a cult. Yes, Slay
- 30:53Speaker 2: go off for that. If you're a Mecca girl, you
- 30:55Speaker 2: are a ride or die. There are like two people
- 30:58Speaker 2: that shop at Mecca.
- 30:59Speaker 3: There are people that are like, yeah, I like this product,
- 31:01Speaker 3: they go in and they get it, and then there
- 31:03Speaker 3: are the people that are like, bleed pink.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I love Mecca.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Mecca is the best, and like, if you give one
- 31:10Speaker 3: piece of constructive criticism to the Mecca model.
- 31:14Speaker 2: They are they are like for Narnia.
- 31:17Speaker 3: On a horse riding through the TikTok comments we ride
- 31:20Speaker 3: at being like we ride at dawn for Mecca and
- 31:23Speaker 3: go off. But I think this is a cult because
- 31:26Speaker 3: that's what like if people are like absolutely don't want
- 31:29Speaker 3: to hear a single critique. And I saw this TikTok
- 31:32Speaker 3: from a creator, which I was like, this absolutely communicates
- 31:36Speaker 3: its the cult. Now this also isn't shade from us
- 31:39Speaker 3: to Mecca.
- 31:40Speaker 2: We both shop there.
- 31:41Speaker 3: We also both think their structure of like redeemable product
- 31:45Speaker 3: services is absolutely amazing. Do I think there's been some
- 31:48Speaker 3: valid critique in the last twelve months.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I think their like business model of spend versus return
- 31:56Speaker 3: with no sales has absolutely been a valid topic of conversation.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that when you compare it to Sephora, it is
- 32:03Speaker 2: a bit lacking.
- 32:04Speaker 3: But there was a TikTok posted by Harriet Ring. It
- 32:09Speaker 3: has eleven thousand likes and it says it's that time
- 32:13Speaker 3: of bi monthly hellscape of Meca beauty Loot review videos
- 32:17Speaker 3: from the driver's seat as I'm gas lit into being
- 32:19Speaker 3: grateful for another lanner lips or solisionaio sample after spending
- 32:24Speaker 3: hundreds year after year.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 3: And as a reminder, to get the beauty Loop boxes,
- 32:34Speaker 3: you have to spend a minimum of three hundred dollars
- 32:37Speaker 3: to get level one.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Then you have to spend a minimum of six hundred
- 32:41Speaker 2: dollars in a year to get level two.
- 32:43Speaker 3: To get level three you have to spend a minimum
- 32:45Speaker 3: of one thousand, two hundred dollars, and to get level
- 32:48Speaker 3: four you have to spend a minimum of three thousand,
- 32:51Speaker 3: five hundred.
- 32:52Speaker 2: And then there is also.
- 32:54Speaker 3: The Secret Mecca Beauty Circle or Magic Circle, which is
- 32:58Speaker 3: rumored to be like ten thousand dollars upwards.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Cult Colt Colts, bitch Colt, you gotta something called magic circle? Yes,
- 33:10Speaker 2: and not have me raising my little eyebry saying cult.
- 33:14Speaker 2: We did also ask the chicks to send in what
- 33:17Speaker 2: they think is a cult. So let's run through quick fire. Okay, okay,
- 33:24Speaker 2: easily one of the most popular marcher. Yes, run clubs.
- 33:29Speaker 3: For one cult, Well, I want horny Colt.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Horny Colts. Run clubs are a horny Colt and I
- 33:37Speaker 2: like that for them.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and you're charismatic leader, your libido CrossFit. Yes, And
- 33:42Speaker 3: on that note, High Rocks forty five was another one cult,
- 33:46Speaker 3: all of those okay Taylor Swift fans, and that was
- 33:50Speaker 3: senting quite a few times.
- 33:52Speaker 2: But also a few people were like, and I'm a
- 33:54Speaker 2: proud member. Yeah, I like that cult. I like that cult.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I think it's harmless.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Okay, having a small dog, they said.
- 34:05Speaker 2: I have small dogs. Do you know what it's a cult?
- 34:08Speaker 2: French bulldogs, no sausage dogs. Yes.
- 34:12Speaker 3: People that have a sausage dog make it their whole
- 34:14Speaker 3: personality that they have a sausage dog.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And I love it. Yeah, I would say that goes
- 34:19Speaker 2: for French bulldog, sausage dog, Pomeranian. Now someone has said
- 34:23Speaker 2: this and I've taken it as a personal attack. Booktoc. Yes,
- 34:26Speaker 2: that's a couple of times. That's a cult. BookTok is
- 34:28Speaker 2: a cult, and I am also a proud member. It's
- 34:30Speaker 2: say I love it.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Things that are a cult, emotional support water bottle girls, Yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 3: like Frank Green.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Stanley cups cult.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Yet someone said Glassons employees, I need the tea.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Do you know what's a cult? Cookeye? Yeah, as a cult,
- 34:47Speaker 2: and I'm scared of it. I only like going in there.
- 34:49Speaker 2: It's scary. That's a humiliation ritual, is it not.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Fuck?
- 34:59Speaker 2: That was so rare, it was so real.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Okay, well that is a wrap episode of two broad Chicks.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Please tell us in the comments of what you think
- 35:10Speaker 3: is a cult because it's so fun and again this.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Is just a silly, goofy girl episode.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Please take it with a grain of salt and yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 3: love cults.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and honestly, Two Broke Chicks is also a cult. Yes,
- 35:25Speaker 2: bro chicks cult.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yepd the proa chicks cult.
- 35:30Speaker 2: All right, thank you so much for having us in
- 35:31Speaker 2: your ear holes.
- 35:32Speaker 3: We love to be here, and thank you to m
- 35:33Speaker 3: K Made for making this episode of Two Brea Chicks happen.
- 35:35Speaker 2: By jiggy Back
