- 9:10moves forward for twenty twenty six Corbin. Good news on
- 9:15the horizon for Corbyn drivers who have long awaited updates
- 9:19on the reservicing of Kentucky Street and Main Street. Chris Jones,
- 9:24Chief District engineer for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District eleven,
- 9:29recently shared promising news regarding the highly discussed project. In
- 9:34an email to Corbin City Manager Scott Williamson, Jones wrote,
- 9:40I want to follow up with you regarding your inquiry
- 9:43about reservicing US twenty five West Kentucky Avenue and Main Street.
- 9:50This route is included in our FD five Federal Funds
- 9:55reservicing program and ranked as a top of the list
- 9:59for twenty twenty six. I am confident the project will
- 10:04move forward for resurfacing sometime in twenty twenty six. Jones
- 10:09noted that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has already conducted preliminary
- 10:14meetings and submitted cost estimates to prepare the project for
- 10:18the bidding phase. The bid process is expected to take
- 10:21place either toward the end of the year or early
- 10:25next year, with construction anticipated to begin in twenty twenty six.
- 10:30The reservicing has been a topic of discussion for more
- 10:34than a year and has progressed since then. Williamson said
- 10:38state paving for this year is mostly complete, with a
- 10:42few cities still scheduled if the weather permits. This is
- 10:47great news said Williamson. We also want to prepare everybody.
- 10:50It's going to be a big disruption, but it's going
- 10:53to be worth it. It's going to happen this spring
- 10:56or maybe early summer. He added that the city of
- 10:59five officials had considered moving the project forward this fall,
- 11:03but ongoing work on the ICE seventy five widening and
- 11:07other local improvements made that timeline unfeasible. We're extremely pleased,
- 11:13Williamson said, while also noting that the rugged conditions of
- 11:16the road that had been due for an upgrade. It's
- 11:20such a disruption. It's rough, the whole thing. It's going
- 11:24to be a big project. Williamson also expressed gratitude toward
- 11:28the city commissioners for their patients and to the Kentucky
- 11:32Department of Transportation Cabinet for its continued cooperation with the project.
- 11:38Now on top of the state's resurfacing list, Corbyn residents
- 11:42can finally look forward to smoother drives through the city
- 11:46once the construction begins in twenty twenty six. Our next
