- 1:10Speaker 2: we see. We can't wait. It is day one. The

- 1:17Speaker 1: And everything's perfect.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we got dogs to adopts. It's a big day.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Here at Jillis Stadium.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Well, Fred, I start looking back at last year when
- 1:27Speaker 5: we were sitting up here and Mike Rabel was here.
- 1:29Speaker 5: We didn't know quite what to expect and how it
- 1:31Speaker 5: was all going to go. I think everybody was excited
- 1:34Speaker 5: to have Mike Rabel back.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And you know, but.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Are you losing your voice?
- 1:37Speaker 5: I have a little bit of Lisbibe, of course, the
- 1:39Speaker 5: night before the Success Show, I think so I was
- 1:41Speaker 5: screaming a.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Lot last night.
- 1:43Speaker 6: He's normally the hype man at training camp, so he
- 1:45Speaker 6: was practicing last night and he had ye pull himself
- 1:49Speaker 6: out of the lineup, scratched.
- 1:51Speaker 7: I'll power through.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But you know, last year crazy go to the super Bowl.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Now the question is can you establish establish yourself as
- 1:59Speaker 5: one of those teams every year that's going to be
- 2:01Speaker 5: a contender, whether you have some injuries you don't.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You know, Drake made a huge part of that.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yep. And we've got some new additions this year, of
- 2:09Speaker 2: course that make it a little different from last year.
- 2:12Speaker 2: A J. Brown being one of the notables. But you know,
- 2:17Speaker 2: you're brought in a bunch of new players, new draft picks,
- 2:20Speaker 2: so every year is different, you know. And the question
- 2:24Speaker 2: was asked of Mike Rabel just before we came on air,
- 2:28Speaker 2: about how do you, you know, make it so that
- 2:31Speaker 2: players know that you haven't won anything yet everything's different.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And Rabel came back, and you know, he often comes
- 2:37Speaker 2: back and disagrees a little bit, and he says, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: we do that every week.
- 2:41Speaker 4: It's not just season of season, it's week to week.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You know, whatever happened last week, this is a new week,
- 2:47Speaker 2: new opponent, new challenge, new opportunity. So for him, it's
- 2:54Speaker 2: just the normal course that you know, we're gonna we're
- 2:56Speaker 2: gonna start fresh this year.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Seems like Super Bowl is still a little bit on
- 2:59Speaker 5: Robert Splaine mine yesterday and we heard from him talking
- 3:01Speaker 5: about wishing he picked off that pass in front of
- 3:03Speaker 5: Chance n though.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But they got to turn the page. But I think
- 3:06Speaker 1: it's exciting.
- 3:07Speaker 5: I mean, it's just hard to imagine how they live
- 3:09Speaker 5: up to what they did last year. Expectations are higher,
- 3:12Speaker 5: all the teams are going to be gunning for them
- 3:14Speaker 5: a little bit more. But it all starts today and
- 3:16Speaker 5: I think I'm most excited just to see Drake May your.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Two in this system. Josh McDaniels, what do they got cooked?
- 3:22Speaker 5: For him, as you know last year coming in second
- 3:25Speaker 5: place in the MVP voting. I mean, I don't know,
- 3:27Speaker 5: as you said have on the show this week, I
- 3:28Speaker 5: don't know if he's gonna compete seventy two percent.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Of his pass yeah, this year an NFL record for
- 3:32Speaker 3: completion percentage.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I don't know if Tammy team's apart down the field,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I mean, depth of target, all those things.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I hey, don I enough about last year?
- 3:43Speaker 2: All right?
- 3:43Speaker 3: I mean, let's get excited about this year. And if
- 3:47Speaker 3: you aren't excited on day one and training camp, you're
- 3:50Speaker 3: in the wrong profession. I mean, this is what it's
- 3:51Speaker 3: all about. This is the start of a new season.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And I think what's so cool to me over the
- 3:57Speaker 3: time that I've covered the team is thinking about all
- 4:00Speaker 3: the star power that this team now has that it
- 4:03Speaker 3: didn't really have just a couple of years ago. Even
- 4:06Speaker 3: last year in training camp, we didn't know that Drake
- 4:08Speaker 3: May was going to be a runner up for MVP.
- 4:11Speaker 2: We didn't know how.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Good Milton Williams was going to be in a bigger role.
- 4:16Speaker 3: We didn't know, you know, some of these different things.
- 4:19Speaker 3: And now you come to Patriots training camp and it's
- 4:21Speaker 3: Drake May, it's a J. Brown, It's Christian Gonzalez, it's
- 4:24Speaker 3: Milton Williams. You know, these big name players that were
- 4:28Speaker 3: all part of those you know, postseason accolades and things
- 4:32Speaker 3: like that. Last buyer, Kevin Bayern, another All Pro player.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Now it feels a little bit a little bit like
- 4:38Speaker 3: it did, you know, in the Brady years when you
- 4:41Speaker 3: came to camp and you had all these stars all
- 4:43Speaker 3: over the place. So that's what I'm most excited about,
- 4:46Speaker 3: is the star power and the day oneness of all
- 4:49Speaker 3: of this. Is last year was last year.
- 4:51Speaker 8: Right, We're moving on.
- 4:53Speaker 6: But I I do understand what des is coming from,
- 4:55Speaker 6: and I know why a lot of the questions are
- 4:57Speaker 6: about that, because I think that was such a big
- 4:58Speaker 6: part of the success.
- 5:00Speaker 7: It's not about like you.
- 5:02Speaker 6: Surprised everybody last year, but I'm talking about how they
- 5:04Speaker 6: surprised everybody. And I think the big part of that
- 5:07Speaker 6: was the way that they built the team, the culture
- 5:09Speaker 6: from within, and just that locker room and how tight
- 5:11Speaker 6: the locker room was.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Can you duplicate that?
- 5:14Speaker 6: Can you continue to you know, find ways to not
- 5:18Speaker 6: motivate because obviously, you know, I think Rabel used kind
- 5:21Speaker 6: of an offshoot a paraphrase of what Evan just said,
- 5:24Speaker 6: If you're not motivated in this business, it's not gonna
- 5:26Speaker 6: last very long. So obviously these guys come in motivated,
- 5:28Speaker 6: but can they develop that same kind of team first mentality,
- 5:32Speaker 6: that culture from within that I think was so important
- 5:36Speaker 6: to the success last year.
- 5:37Speaker 7: Can they do it again?
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think you He brought up Robert spuline yesterday,
- 5:41Speaker 3: and I just love Robert Spulain's attitude because he's he's
- 5:44Speaker 3: like us, right, like he's geeked up, but he's ready
- 5:47Speaker 3: to go for training camp and he's just so excited.
- 5:50Speaker 3: You could tell just him standing up there and just
- 5:52Speaker 3: how excited he was to get things going and get
- 5:55Speaker 3: things rolling. And maybe I think, you know, going back
- 5:57Speaker 3: to what he said about the JSN path that he
- 6:00Speaker 3: felt like he could have picked off in the Super Bowl,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I think the motivation for them guys is everybody kind
- 6:07Speaker 3: of thought we were an easy schedule last year, and
- 6:09Speaker 3: we got breaks and we didn't have a ton of injuries,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and Bo Knicks gets hurt and we played Jared sind
- 6:14Speaker 3: him in the AFC Championship Game. So I think that
- 6:17Speaker 3: this team that the guys that are holdover is still
- 6:19Speaker 3: have a lot to prove that that wasn't a fluke
- 6:22Speaker 3: last year.
- 6:22Speaker 4: And it wasn't a fluke.
- 6:23Speaker 2: And don't forget that when the schedule came out we
- 6:27Speaker 2: were the easy team on other people's schedule. Sure we
- 6:30Speaker 2: were thought to be the easy team on other people's schedules. Yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 2: Like I always say, you can't judge a schedule until
- 6:36Speaker 2: the season's over.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Right, And the big thing you heard last year, remember
- 6:38Speaker 5: one of the first things Mike Vrabel said was we
- 6:41Speaker 5: got to find if we can take advantage.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Of bad football. That was their starting line.
- 6:45Speaker 5: And even now you're hearing that, still him talking about
- 6:48Speaker 5: being able to get to that point take advantage of
- 6:49Speaker 5: bad football. The other one is you're hearing the same
- 6:52Speaker 5: theme of earn a role, you know, finally make the
- 6:55Speaker 5: team and prepare to win the same talking points for
- 6:58Speaker 5: training camp this year. So you know, I think's got
- 7:00Speaker 5: a system in place, and you see him kind of
- 7:02Speaker 5: going back to the well and hopefully it works again.
- 7:04Speaker 7: And I do think I'm sorry, go ahead, Fred Well.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Taking advantage of bad football you can only do if
- 7:09Speaker 2: you're not playing bad football. And to me, the biggest
- 7:12Speaker 2: difference between last season and the two seasons prior, was
- 7:16Speaker 2: they to a degree stopped playing bad football, stop beating themselves.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And in this league, if you can do that, you're
- 7:24Speaker 2: going to end up on the winning side of a
- 7:27Speaker 2: lot of games.
- 7:27Speaker 6: And that's why I think when he went over just
- 7:30Speaker 6: before our show started, when he spoke today and he
- 7:32Speaker 6: started talking about the characteristics of the losses last year,
- 7:36Speaker 6: you know, and he's breaking down very detailed things. You know,
- 7:38Speaker 6: the Pittsburgh game, everybody remembers all the fumbles, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 6: and he talks about the Buffalo game and it's like
- 7:43Speaker 6: you compare the quarterbacks. He's putting that on the defense.
- 7:46Speaker 6: He didn't do anything to disrupt Josh Allen. You know,
- 7:48Speaker 6: we got to do some stuff. And he talks about
- 7:50Speaker 6: something like the special teams. You know, Ray Davis had
- 7:52Speaker 6: a big kick return in that game, you know, giving
- 7:54Speaker 6: them some shorter fields and things like that. So they're
- 7:57Speaker 6: very specific details. He remembers. It's the good, the bad,
- 8:01Speaker 6: and the stuff that gets you beat. He knows the
- 8:03Speaker 6: stuff that got them beat. And the four losses that
- 8:05Speaker 6: they had last year, he remembers it very quick.
- 8:08Speaker 3: There was only four of them, so it was pretty
- 8:09Speaker 3: easy that was when he was going through that, that
- 8:12Speaker 3: was what I was thinking about.
- 8:13Speaker 8: I was like, well, that was all of them.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So yeah, I asked them why they won every one
- 8:19Speaker 2: of those fourteen games that right.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Now, and that's what's you know, how's this team going
- 8:25Speaker 5: to evolve this year too? And I mean I think
- 8:27Speaker 5: they're going to have to evolve. They've got I mean,
- 8:29Speaker 5: it starts Week one in Seattle. I mean, that's such
- 8:32Speaker 5: a huge test.
- 8:32Speaker 1: For Drake May.
- 8:33Speaker 5: I mean, we know what the storylines are going to be,
- 8:35Speaker 5: we know what the super Bowl look like. They've already
- 8:38Speaker 5: started challenging Drake May this summer. You know, I love
- 8:40Speaker 5: We talked about the stuff in mini camp that I
- 8:42Speaker 5: love where he's going to the line with no play call,
- 8:43Speaker 5: he's got to read the defense, figure out what to
- 8:45Speaker 5: get them into. He's going to get great opportunities against
- 8:48Speaker 5: the Colts defense. He's going to get great opportunities against
- 8:50Speaker 5: the Eagles defense two days. So I think those are
- 8:53Speaker 5: all things that, you know, hopefully helped Drake continue to ascend.
- 8:57Speaker 5: And I mean he's the wild card. We talk about
- 8:58Speaker 5: a harder schedule and maybe the will be more injuries
- 9:00Speaker 5: this year.
- 9:01Speaker 1: As Paul said, last year. If he plays great, you
- 9:03Speaker 1: can off set just about it.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Well. One of the things it's becoming a tradition here
- 9:07Speaker 2: at the opening day of training camp is pet adoption,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and right now down on the field, I believe mister
- 9:14Speaker 2: and missus Kraft are down there with the dogs. If
- 9:17Speaker 2: we can go to that, there's Robert kraft Ert and
- 9:21Speaker 2: I think there's about twenty one dogs or so up
- 9:23Speaker 2: for adoption that they brought to the field, just like
- 9:26Speaker 2: they did last year. Last year was such a success
- 9:29Speaker 2: that they did it again and all the dogs last
- 9:31Speaker 2: year were adopted, and I would imagine that the same
- 9:35Speaker 2: thing's going to happen this year.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's like sixty dogs this year. It's crazy.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I want sixty.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I want to show the person behind mister Kraft with
- 9:43Speaker 3: doctor Dana. I think they're Andy Borgalis, who has like
- 9:47Speaker 3: five dogs and his wife. He's going to get a
- 9:49Speaker 3: fan I think adopted one last year without telling him
- 9:53Speaker 3: and I'm just worried for him his wife.
- 9:55Speaker 7: I'm worried for.
- 9:56Speaker 8: Him that that's going to happen again.
- 9:57Speaker 5: So ye, well, that dog we just saw too great
- 10:01Speaker 5: event beans. There's some great pops down there. We shot
- 10:03Speaker 5: a video with Dante Scarnecki this week to help promote
- 10:06Speaker 5: the event.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But some great pops, a lot of dogs gonna find
- 10:08Speaker 1: rooms today.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I wish I could take them all. I you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I just it's it's so great. So if that's a
- 10:14Speaker 2: Patriots Potriots uh program that they have going now, it's
- 10:18Speaker 2: a it's a big thing. You can go on Patriots
- 10:20Speaker 2: dot com and look it up and see all the
- 10:23Speaker 2: stuff that they're doing. Uh. So they'll be doing things
- 10:26Speaker 2: throughout the season.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Uh.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And you know you can get involved and just check
- 10:30Speaker 2: out online when the next event is and and.
- 10:33Speaker 7: Will's got a new friend.
- 10:34Speaker 2: There you go, yeah, there you go.
- 10:36Speaker 1: He's got that dog with them.
- 10:38Speaker 2: He's got a little beagle who he will die for
- 10:42Speaker 2: that dog.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Eric Adler, our photographer.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Now, it's a fun way to start. It was funny
- 10:48Speaker 5: when we're when we were shooting the video docs. Just
- 10:49Speaker 5: bring a smile to everybody's face, you know. And you
- 10:51Speaker 5: have these most of the construction guys, you know, construction
- 10:54Speaker 5: guys driving by, and you know, and they're like a
- 10:56Speaker 5: stern face on and oh the little pops.
- 10:58Speaker 1: You know, everybody loves it. So it's developing into a
- 11:01Speaker 1: fun little tradition here.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Yep, so that's going on down there. Players are you know,
- 11:06Speaker 2: slowly getting down on the field. Practice officially starts at
- 11:09Speaker 2: what ten fifteen, Yes, yeah, so we can't show period one,
- 11:14Speaker 2: but once period two starts, our cameras will be on
- 11:17Speaker 2: the field and you know, we'll yeah, so we'll kind
- 11:20Speaker 2: of play by play what you're seeing and what we're seeing.
- 11:23Speaker 5: So we don't gave Acus isn't here, Mike Rabill, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 5: lay that out yesterday.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Contract issue.
- 11:27Speaker 5: We don't know exactly what he felt confident that they
- 11:29Speaker 5: were going to figure it out though, so that, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 5: made me feel pretty good. But I think what we're
- 11:33Speaker 5: all looking for today Christian Gonzalez, is he participating?
- 11:36Speaker 1: What's he doing?
- 11:37Speaker 2: He's a correction.
- 11:37Speaker 7: Practice starts at ten thirty, ten thirty.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Sorry, Yeah. On the Acus situation, I think he's doing
- 11:44Speaker 2: his best to only say positive things, yep, but I
- 11:51Speaker 2: still sense that he's annoyed at the whole situation. Someone
- 11:55Speaker 2: asked us if he's local, and he's and he said, no,
- 11:58Speaker 2: you know, he's not in New England. So I still
- 12:02Speaker 2: get that sense that obviously this isn't an ideal situation
- 12:06Speaker 2: for your second round draft pick.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, I would just say too,
- 12:10Speaker 5: if Kaye Backus hasn't gotten here and gotten set up,
- 12:12Speaker 5: I would prefer him to be somewhere else where he's
- 12:14Speaker 5: training and staying in shape and has a system in place,
- 12:17Speaker 5: rather than he can't come to the facility. So if
- 12:19Speaker 5: he's around here trying to find a new place story,
- 12:21Speaker 5: you know, Like, so I don't that's not that big
- 12:22Speaker 5: of a deal to me, But I.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Hear what you're saying.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Fred, It's clearly it's a contract negotiation.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean, Greg Bdard asked him straight up, like, what's
- 12:30Speaker 1: the deal? These are slotted now right dead on.
- 12:32Speaker 7: I think it's a huge deal.
- 12:34Speaker 6: So I really concerned that the Burt Breer report might
- 12:38Speaker 6: have some validity to it, that they're sort of looking
- 12:40Speaker 6: at this as maybe kind of a red shirt year
- 12:42Speaker 6: for him.
- 12:43Speaker 1: But what does that look like? Does that mean he
- 12:45Speaker 1: doesn't sign a contract?
- 12:46Speaker 7: No, Like he's just not going to be a big
- 12:48Speaker 7: part of the equation.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Ye, I think eventually, Like you know, that was the
- 12:52Speaker 6: last one of the last things Mike said yesterday was
- 12:56Speaker 6: I'm positive on that. Now you could interpret that two
- 12:59Speaker 6: different ways, Like his outlook is I'm you know, he's
- 13:02Speaker 6: taken a positive outlook or I guarantee he's going to sign.
- 13:06Speaker 7: I'm positive he's going to sign. That's how which is
- 13:08Speaker 7: how I took.
- 13:09Speaker 6: You know, but I do you know, UH leave some
- 13:12Speaker 6: leeway there sometimes words different.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Well, I think it's a good conversation because we all
- 13:17Speaker 5: know they need that position desperately.
- 13:19Speaker 1: We're gonna watch Elijah ponder out here.
- 13:21Speaker 5: He's going to get a ton of reps next to
- 13:22Speaker 5: Draymond Jones, well, Harold Landry gets back from pup. But
- 13:26Speaker 5: I just see such opportunity and if there's any chance
- 13:28Speaker 5: that gave Acus can make it out here on the
- 13:30Speaker 5: field for training camp.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I think they'll find a way. I think they'll find
- 13:33Speaker 1: a way.
- 13:33Speaker 7: I just feel like if it was imminent, he'd be here.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I do too.
- 13:37Speaker 3: My concerns with the gave Acus are more like big picture,
- 13:40Speaker 3: long term me too, than they are about him being
- 13:43Speaker 3: here like today of training camp. You know, I'm worried,
- 13:46Speaker 3: you know, they he said yesterday Rabel did that they're
- 13:50Speaker 3: going to take him at his word right now that
- 13:51Speaker 3: he's healthy. Haven't seen him, but we haven't seen him,
- 13:54Speaker 3: so we don't know one hundred percent if he's healthy
- 13:56Speaker 3: or not, and something tells me that. You know, usually
- 13:58Speaker 3: it's like guaranteed money, your payment schedule, or something along
- 14:02Speaker 3: the lines of that. When it comes to these negotiations
- 14:04Speaker 3: like does this is this an injury that they're worried
- 14:07Speaker 3: about for like his longevity as an NFL player?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Well, I leaves accurately again, and I'm reading the tea
- 14:15Speaker 2: leaves too and what I'm about to say. But I
- 14:17Speaker 2: just think that there was an overall annoyance at you know,
- 14:22Speaker 2: not full disclosure into health. And I think when it
- 14:26Speaker 2: comes to the contract negotiations, my sense and I don't
- 14:30Speaker 2: know this, but it's less about money than it is contingencies.
- 14:35Speaker 2: You know. Okay, so now there's some stuff that we
- 14:38Speaker 2: didn't know about you. Well, we're gonna look for something
- 14:41Speaker 2: to write into this contract that's going to protect.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Us because the money is slotted, but the total value
- 14:50Speaker 3: is slotted, correct, you know, how much they guarantee you.
- 14:55Speaker 7: That's what I think the contingencies come that.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Fresh talking considering the situation, the player is in no
- 15:03Speaker 2: position right now to ask for more than the usual
- 15:06Speaker 2: amount of guarantees. If anything, he should be making concessions
- 15:10Speaker 2: and saying yeah, sorry about that, you know.
- 15:13Speaker 8: I well, if we think that that's what.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Happened exactly, Yeah, if we think that's what happened, and
- 15:20Speaker 2: I don't you think that there's a good chance that
- 15:22Speaker 2: that is that probably sounds we're right.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know the draft, he was drafted fifty fifth,
- 15:27Speaker 3: the fifty fourth pick as signed, the fifty sixth pick
- 15:30Speaker 3: as signed, right, and so like they know exactly what
- 15:33Speaker 3: am I getting number twelve?
- 15:36Speaker 8: Yeah, ty, So.
- 15:39Speaker 3: If they say, like, this is what you know, his
- 15:41Speaker 3: agent is probably saying fifty four and fifty six got this,
- 15:44Speaker 3: so we want that. And the Patriots are clearly thinking, well,
- 15:48Speaker 3: we're not at a position to guarantee you that because
- 15:52Speaker 3: we don't know what your health is and we don't
- 15:53Speaker 3: know what's going on with you right now. And I
- 15:55Speaker 3: think that's what we're haggling over, is guaranteed money in
- 15:58Speaker 3: the contract. I don't know how you would like write
- 16:01Speaker 3: like an injury waiver into a contract.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I don't either, But I just think that there's a
- 16:07Speaker 2: little bit of I don't want to say mistrust at
- 16:09Speaker 2: this point, but I think there's some ruffled feathers on
- 16:13Speaker 2: the side of the Patriots.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 6: I just don't know who they're mistrusting. Yeah, I don't
- 16:18Speaker 6: have the information.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, I don't know if it's mistrust as
- 16:22Speaker 2: much as it is just ruffle feathers and uh so, Yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I hope that they just get get this ironed out
- 16:29Speaker 2: because I was really impressed with the kid when they
- 16:32Speaker 2: you know, drafted him. His whole personality and his passion
- 16:35Speaker 2: and everything. So let's get him out here.
- 16:37Speaker 8: That's the press College tape.
- 16:38Speaker 5: I mean, that's what's annoying for me is just you
- 16:40Speaker 5: knew they needed this position, Evan I, Paul. We talked
- 16:43Speaker 5: all spring about this edge class, how bad they needed
- 16:46Speaker 5: an edge Which one are they going to take? Everybody
- 16:49Speaker 5: loved Gay Bacchus. He looked like he fit the mold.
- 16:51Speaker 5: The Patriots told you that much, you know, in the
- 16:53Speaker 5: in the episode of Forced in Foxborough. And that's why
- 16:56Speaker 5: it's it's really hard to swallow. You knew this player
- 16:59Speaker 5: had an opportunity to come in and immediately be part
- 17:01Speaker 5: of this rotation.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And it's even more glaring now with Harold Landry on pup.
- 17:06Speaker 5: So you know, just it goes back to the needs
- 17:08Speaker 5: that we've been talking about for the last year and
- 17:09Speaker 5: that's really the one spot where you feel like they're
- 17:11Speaker 5: missing an impact player of the.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Key positions on a football roster that you want to
- 17:16Speaker 1: have stars at.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So let's hope for the best there. The other story
- 17:18Speaker 2: we'll be keeping our eye on is Christian Gonzalez, and
- 17:21Speaker 2: we know that he's up for an extension. And I
- 17:24Speaker 2: think that's a complicated situation because he is in the
- 17:29Speaker 2: same situation as the other cornerback in the league, Witherspoon,
- 17:34Speaker 2: exact same situation with the same agent.
- 17:38Speaker 8: And the same agent as gay Acus too.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think this, I think this really gets complicated.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Who goes first, Witherspoon or Gonzales. Who's actually better? Who's
- 17:48Speaker 2: better in the eyes of their agent? You know, is
- 17:51Speaker 2: the agent gonna favor one over the other, or is
- 17:53Speaker 2: he gonna be looking for the same for both so
- 17:55Speaker 2: that his clients don't get bent out of shape. Oh
- 17:58Speaker 2: you got more for him than you got for me.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So it's complicated for the agent.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It's complicated for the players, I think, and I think
- 18:06Speaker 2: it's complicated for both teams that are trying to sign
- 18:09Speaker 2: these guys to extensions. You know what, I hope the
- 18:14Speaker 2: agent isn't doing is telling these players that you know,
- 18:18Speaker 2: all the teams are being cheap or whatever, you know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: or you know, hold out, don't don't participate. I hope though,
- 18:25Speaker 2: agent isn't giving them that advice.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, well we'll see.
- 18:29Speaker 5: I mean, it's it'll be a test of the old
- 18:30Speaker 5: new hold in that we've become very familiar with in
- 18:33Speaker 5: recent years. Yesterday Vrabel said he expects he's going to
- 18:36Speaker 5: be here, that he's going to participate. We'll see what
- 18:39Speaker 5: those conversations were like earlier today and what goes on
- 18:41Speaker 5: on here on the field.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I would expect him to participate the same way
- 18:44Speaker 3: he did in the spring. He'll do position drills, he'll
- 18:47Speaker 3: do walkthroughs, team things. As soon as they get to
- 18:50Speaker 3: actual live team eleven on eleven's he won't be out there,
- 18:53Speaker 3: which is exactly what he did in the spring. So
- 18:54Speaker 3: if you want to call that a hold in, then
- 18:56Speaker 3: I guess you can. I don't think that that's the
- 18:58Speaker 3: full hold in. The hold in is like I'm not
- 19:00Speaker 3: doing anything, you know, I'm not even gonna be in uniform.
- 19:03Speaker 3: This is like a mini hold in. But I don't
- 19:06Speaker 3: think you know. We mentioned the agent Fred with Witherspoon
- 19:10Speaker 3: I don't think it's nothing.
- 19:12Speaker 8: That it's also gay Bachus's agent.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So right now the Patriots are in a stalemate with
- 19:17Speaker 3: Christian Gonzalez and gay Bacchus, and it's the same agent
- 19:20Speaker 3: that's representing both guys, and that I just think is
- 19:24Speaker 3: a very complicated situation, you know, I really do. And
- 19:28Speaker 3: then the Witherspoon thing also adds in another complication. You know,
- 19:32Speaker 3: the reporting is is that they're closer in Seattle with
- 19:35Speaker 3: Witherspoon right now than the Patriots are with Gonzales. So
- 19:38Speaker 3: maybe Gonzales wants Witherspoon to go first, you know, who knows.
- 19:42Speaker 3: But I've said this before. Witherspoon signs for thirty two,
- 19:47Speaker 3: Gonzales signs for thirty two point one. Like, it's not
- 19:49Speaker 3: like it's gonna be like a world's different if.
- 19:53Speaker 6: Gonzales doesn't want that, What if Gonzales wants substantially more
- 19:58Speaker 6: than whatever Witherspoon signs.
- 20:00Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know how you could.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Like, they're they're they're I think they're basically equal players,
- 20:06Speaker 3: So I know, but he might not.
- 20:08Speaker 2: But what if he But would that put him at
- 20:10Speaker 2: odds with his own agent? No, because his own agent
- 20:13Speaker 2: doesn't want to favor one guy over the other because
- 20:16Speaker 2: that's gonna upset Witherspoon.
- 20:18Speaker 6: Yeah, but whatever Witherspoon signs for is not Gonzales's problem.
- 20:22Speaker 2: It's not Gonzalez's problem, but it's his agent's problem.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah, so what so I represent.
- 20:28Speaker 2: You and Deuce, and I signed Deuce for a couple
- 20:32Speaker 2: million more than you, and you feel you're as good,
- 20:35Speaker 2: if not better, aren't you a little upset?
- 20:37Speaker 7: But what does that have to do with the agent?
- 20:39Speaker 7: That's Gonzales that feels like that.
- 20:41Speaker 2: No, but now but he's mad at his agent?
- 20:43Speaker 7: Now why he didn't make him sign for less?
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm telling them the guy that made less, the guy
- 20:50Speaker 2: that signed for less, could be upset with the agent.
- 20:53Speaker 7: Well, he could be, but then he shouldn't sign the deal,
- 20:55Speaker 7: is my point.
- 20:56Speaker 4: So that's that. My point is, you know, like.
- 21:00Speaker 6: With a Spoon, shouldn't sign for thirty two if he
- 21:02Speaker 6: thinks he's worth a lot more than that.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Well, listen, it all comes down to what the agent
- 21:06Speaker 2: is telling his clients right now, you know what what
- 21:09Speaker 2: he's setting expectators. Whether you're a realtor selling a house
- 21:15Speaker 2: for a client or a sports agent, you set expectations
- 21:19Speaker 2: for your client. You tell him this is what I
- 21:21Speaker 2: think we're going to end up with. So I'm sure
- 21:24Speaker 2: that he's telling both clients what he's asking for, and
- 21:28Speaker 2: you know.
- 21:28Speaker 6: And then it's up to the client to say, well,
- 21:30Speaker 6: that's not acceptable to me. That's my point. I'm not
- 21:33Speaker 6: angry at the agent for negotiating, but I'm not going
- 21:36Speaker 6: to sign unless i think I'm getting what I'm working.
- 21:39Speaker 2: But but now you see how complicated it is, because
- 21:41Speaker 2: let's just say that's the case.
- 21:42Speaker 6: The guy representing both guys complicated.
- 21:47Speaker 2: But I'm not even saying that, Like, let's just say
- 21:49Speaker 2: Gonzo is telling his agent, I want X amount more. Okay,
- 21:54Speaker 2: that makes it complicated.
- 21:55Speaker 6: For me, But it's not necessarily an X amount more
- 21:57Speaker 6: than with a Spoon.
- 21:59Speaker 7: It's if he gets just the thirty two, I.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Think I'm a lot more. I'm worth a lot more
- 22:03Speaker 6: than that. If Witherspoon gets thirty seven, he might not say, well,
- 22:06Speaker 6: I'm worth a lot more than Witherspoon, like it's the number,
- 22:09Speaker 6: Like it's I don't necessarily he's going to be whoever
- 22:13Speaker 6: signed second is going to be the highest paid guy.
- 22:15Speaker 7: You haven't mapped that out. I think exactly the way
- 22:18Speaker 7: it will work.
- 22:19Speaker 6: The question is how much does the second guy want
- 22:23Speaker 6: more than the first guy signs for it. You don't
- 22:25Speaker 6: know until you see what the number is. I've heard
- 22:27Speaker 6: some different stories again back to Albert Breer, that they're
- 22:32Speaker 6: not just looking to squeak over the whatever the Trent
- 22:35Speaker 6: McDuffie or the Patrick's or ten threshold.
- 22:38Speaker 7: They're looking to blow it out of the water.
- 22:40Speaker 6: If that happens, then I don't think he necessarily needs
- 22:42Speaker 6: significantly more than Witherspoon gets.
- 22:44Speaker 7: If Witherspoon goes way above, I just don't know how.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I don't know why the Patriots or the Seahawks would
- 22:51Speaker 3: would do that. You know, McDuffie just signed for thirty
- 22:54Speaker 3: one million a year. Is a draft class, right, but
- 22:56Speaker 3: he's a twenty twenty two class. This is the twenty
- 22:58Speaker 3: twenty three class. They're all just as good as each other. So,
- 23:02Speaker 3: but it happens, But that's just inflation. Like the next
- 23:05Speaker 3: guy is just gonna sign for a little bit more
- 23:06Speaker 3: than the previous guy did. So if I'm the Patriots,
- 23:09Speaker 3: I'm saying, well, Trent McDuffie just got thirty one from
- 23:12Speaker 3: the Rams. Yes, like the order of business is that
- 23:15Speaker 3: you're gonna get a little bit more than that because
- 23:17Speaker 3: it's a little bit further along, but not by much.
- 23:19Speaker 3: You just signed it a couple of weeks ago, so
- 23:21Speaker 3: I agree with you. But I'm just saying but I'm
- 23:24Speaker 3: just saying it from the team perspective. You know, Trent
- 23:28Speaker 3: McDuffie got thirty one, you're getting thirty two. Like if
- 23:32Speaker 3: you're talking about getting thirty.
- 23:33Speaker 7: Eight, that's how happen. That's what I'm saying. That's what
- 23:37Speaker 7: That's how.
- 23:38Speaker 6: Express blew out the bottle of water, right, But like
- 23:42Speaker 6: he jumped to fifty, it was like ten more.
- 23:44Speaker 7: And but these things happen.
- 23:45Speaker 2: There's another way to approach it, both the player or
- 23:48Speaker 2: the team is Okay, you're gonna get thirty two, but
- 23:50Speaker 2: you're gonna get more guaranteed. You know, you can do
- 23:53Speaker 2: it that way too and make the player happy.
- 23:55Speaker 7: So oh, but either way, I'm blowing it out of
- 23:58Speaker 7: the water.
- 23:59Speaker 6: If I'm getting way more guaranteed than someone else, that's fine.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but that's money.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I mean, to your point, Paul, if Christian Gonzalez wants
- 24:06Speaker 5: to blow it out of the water, then we might
- 24:07Speaker 5: be looking at not having Christians.
- 24:09Speaker 7: And that's why I don't think it's all. Everything you
- 24:12Speaker 7: haven't said is right.
- 24:13Speaker 6: I'm and we've talked about this for six weeks now
- 24:16Speaker 6: on the show. Is that you know, we've been going
- 24:18Speaker 6: back and forth. Witherspoon's probably going to sign first. Gonzo
- 24:21Speaker 6: is probably going to get a little bit more than Witherspoon, and.
- 24:23Speaker 7: That's the way it goes.
- 24:25Speaker 6: But that's like to your point, Mike, when you get
- 24:27Speaker 6: a stalemate and a guy demanding a trade or a
- 24:31Speaker 6: hold up, like that's how they happen. A guy just says,
- 24:34Speaker 6: you know what, I know. That makes all the sense
- 24:35Speaker 6: in the world. I think I'm worth more than that.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Gonzales has done nothing to indicate that. He keeps saying
- 24:41Speaker 6: how much he likes it here, how much he wants
- 24:43Speaker 6: to stay here. He's saying all those things, but they
- 24:47Speaker 6: haven't signed him yet. So until he signs, I'm going
- 24:50Speaker 6: to be concerned about it.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Who do you think is better, Whetherspoon or Gonzales.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I think they're totally different players, which I think makes
- 24:55Speaker 3: it difficult. You know, Witherspoon to me, is much more
- 25:00Speaker 3: of an on ball production type of player and not
- 25:03Speaker 3: less of like a shadow corner that's just gonna take
- 25:06Speaker 3: this guy out of the assignment. So you know, he
- 25:08Speaker 3: plays a lot of the nickel, a lot on third down,
- 25:10Speaker 3: he puts his the quarterback. He's just around the ball
- 25:13Speaker 3: a whole lot more.
- 25:14Speaker 1: This is the quarterback.
- 25:15Speaker 7: I didn't know, Yeah you might.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Yeah, So you know, Gonzalez is a true boundary corner.
- 25:23Speaker 4: So who do you think is more talented cornerback?
- 25:26Speaker 5: I mean, I I just think the way Gonzalez affects
- 25:29Speaker 5: the defense. I mean, I think Devin Witherspoon could play
- 25:31Speaker 5: in any defense. He's an outstanding player. But when you're
- 25:34Speaker 5: looking for specific.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Needs, I think that it's a flavoring. It depends on
- 25:39Speaker 3: what your defensive scheme is and what you you know,
- 25:41Speaker 3: prioritize in corners. If you play a lot of man
- 25:44Speaker 3: and you want somebody that's going to go out there
- 25:46Speaker 3: and lock his man down, and then it's Gonzales. If
- 25:47Speaker 3: you play a defense more like Seattle and are built
- 25:50Speaker 3: more that way, then you're gonna want a playmaker like Witherspoon.
- 25:54Speaker 3: And that's exactly how it was coming out of the draft.
- 25:56Speaker 3: That's exactly how it is now. Like Witherspoon is a
- 25:59Speaker 3: guy that is an on the ball a lot, and
- 26:02Speaker 3: it's kind of like a ball howking player.
- 26:03Speaker 2: From the corner position. But you know, sounds like a
- 26:06Speaker 2: safety to me.
- 26:08Speaker 7: He can cover. No, I'm not saying he's not a safety.
- 26:12Speaker 7: He can he can do all those things.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Now, if you're asking just pure athleticism, Gonzales, I think
- 26:17Speaker 6: is a fluid more fluid athlete.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Like the ability to shut down somebody in the NFL.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Isn't that higher value than being around the ball a lot?
- 26:27Speaker 7: I mean it depends, But who was the more valuable
- 26:29Speaker 7: the Super Bowl?
- 26:30Speaker 2: Are playing like? I don't know.
- 26:31Speaker 7: They both had great games in the Super Bowl? Who
- 26:33Speaker 7: was the more valuable?
- 26:35Speaker 2: What's valued more in the NFL? The shutdown corner or
- 26:38Speaker 2: a versatile corner.
- 26:39Speaker 6: See, but you're making it sound like the guy who's
- 26:41Speaker 6: the versatile corner can't cover.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I didn't say that.
- 26:44Speaker 6: But he's a shutdown corner. He's just maybe not as
- 26:46Speaker 6: good as shutdown corner as Gonzales, That's what I'm saying.
- 26:50Speaker 2: So what's value as a corner? The true elite shutdown
- 26:56Speaker 2: corner is the most valued.
- 26:58Speaker 7: I just think I don't think it depends on your scheme.
- 27:01Speaker 8: Yeah, it depends on who you know.
- 27:03Speaker 2: If you can have that shut down corner, you change.
- 27:06Speaker 7: Witherspoon is more valuable to Seattle than Gonzalez would be.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Gonzales might be more valuable to the Patriots, like I
- 27:12Speaker 6: think even at all.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Yeah, you're not.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Trying to get in like bogged down by the semantics
- 27:16Speaker 3: of it. It just they're very to me, they're very,
- 27:19Speaker 3: very different players, And it depends on what kind of
- 27:21Speaker 3: defense you want to run. If you want to run
- 27:23Speaker 3: eighty percent zone like Seattle does, then Witherspoon's your guy,
- 27:27Speaker 3: you know, like if that's if that's the type of defense.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I look at it a lot like the pure elite
- 27:33Speaker 2: edge rusher versus you know, the more versatile defensive linemen.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You know, both have value, you don't have value, But
- 27:40Speaker 2: someone that gets the most money is the one that
- 27:42Speaker 2: that's different.
- 27:43Speaker 6: Because I agree with you, I think they both have
- 27:46Speaker 6: value in the edge because.
- 27:47Speaker 7: They're they're rarer.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Yeah, right, I don't think that there's any I don't
- 27:52Speaker 6: think there are a lot of Witherspoons. He's a rare commodity.
- 27:55Speaker 6: The guys that play the way he does is not
- 27:57Speaker 6: not every cornerback in the league can do that. There
- 28:00Speaker 6: are not a lot of guys that can Coverla Gonzales.
- 28:02Speaker 6: They're both rare commodities. But the guy you would describing
- 28:05Speaker 6: on the defensive line, to me, it's kind of a
- 28:08Speaker 6: dime a dozen. The edge rusher who impacts games like
- 28:11Speaker 6: just he's a flat out elites pass rusher. There aren't
- 28:14Speaker 6: a lot of those guys. Those are planet players. Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 6: Miles Garrett, there ain't a lot of those guys around.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Right, They're both great players.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I would just say for me, I think you got
- 28:22Speaker 5: to play man defense and having that ability to have
- 28:25Speaker 5: that player if that that's the way I would lean.
- 28:27Speaker 1: And I totally not saying that's the right way.
- 28:29Speaker 5: There are plenty of NFL coaches that would say I'd
- 28:30Speaker 5: much rather have a guy like Witherspoon in my defense,
- 28:33Speaker 5: especially with Mike McDonald and the smarts that he has
- 28:35Speaker 5: with his game.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I believe when when you have a player in
- 28:38Speaker 2: any position that is just so great in a lade
- 28:41Speaker 2: at that position, you change things up to accommodate having
- 28:45Speaker 2: that player because he's so good.
- 28:47Speaker 4: There's head coach with uh?
- 28:49Speaker 7: Is that BB?
- 28:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:53Speaker 7: You guys have to help me out here.
- 28:54Speaker 3: That's BBE and I gotta tell you, and I thought
- 28:57Speaker 3: about it, very very nice looking, lady babe German shepherd mix.
- 29:05Speaker 2: You thought about what a little bit.
- 29:10Speaker 7: O Jesus. Okay, all right, didn't take us long to
- 29:15Speaker 7: start working.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Okay, I cuete Poppy a little smelly, but yeah, was
- 29:20Speaker 1: he smelling? Smelling?
- 29:21Speaker 7: Smell like outdoors.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Puppies an't supposed to smell bad. Yeah, it's like they
- 29:26Speaker 2: haven't developed the smell yet.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Oh, God forbid, the dog smelled like a dog.
- 29:31Speaker 7: Rather you just had the dog at them.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I don't need the dog smell to him.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Practice starts at ten thirty, so we're still
- 29:37Speaker 2: waiting for that to get going.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Nice new Guardian caps. I got to point that out.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That's my thing, you know, just that they're not quite
- 29:42Speaker 1: as bulky and stilly. I like them better. I can see.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Dogs went to the went to the new one, though.
- 29:47Speaker 2: A little bit more streamlined than in the past.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Streamline, you know, hopefully still protecting everybody's heads from concussions.
- 29:53Speaker 1: But small change here at camp.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Okay, the field itself, the grass. I don't know if
- 29:58Speaker 2: they learned it from taking care of the World Cup field,
- 30:01Speaker 2: but it is pristine.
- 30:02Speaker 7: It does look perfect.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it does. It really is. I know the
- 30:08Speaker 2: NFLPA is pushing teams to go to grass. How do
- 30:12Speaker 2: you guys feel about that?
- 30:14Speaker 1: Well, we'll just you know whatever wherever we got to
- 30:15Speaker 1: play on more ready to go.
- 30:17Speaker 8: I liked I liked that answer, Like I'm sorry, like.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Just just stop the whining, just go play football and
- 30:24Speaker 3: the like, I get it. I think that there's probably
- 30:28Speaker 3: evidence in science that says the grass is safer than
- 30:31Speaker 3: than a lot of this turf is. But uh, I
- 30:34Speaker 3: mean they're going to play in some different surfaces this year.
- 30:37Speaker 3: They they actually did the Athletic did their rankings of
- 30:40Speaker 3: like who has the worst surfaces on their schedule, and
- 30:43Speaker 3: the Patriots were near the bottom of it. Now they
- 30:45Speaker 3: do have to play at MetLife, so maybe that's part
- 30:48Speaker 3: of that and you know, influence there. But you know,
- 30:52Speaker 3: I kind of think that it's a little a lot
- 30:55Speaker 3: to do about nothing.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I too. I mean, listen, thirty years ago, astro turf
- 31:00Speaker 2: was terrible.
- 31:01Speaker 1: It was almost like cement.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it was terrible. But nowadays it's it's, you know.
- 31:05Speaker 7: There's the field is a lot better.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we're like ten generations away from that. It's it's
- 31:09Speaker 2: a lot better. So I don't know, I don't know
- 31:13Speaker 2: if there's more injuries on turf than grass, but I
- 31:17Speaker 2: can tell you you know, come December, you know, those
- 31:20Speaker 2: grass fields in the Northeast aren't really that good to
- 31:23Speaker 2: play on either, right.
- 31:24Speaker 5: And Plus if you watched the World Cup, it looked
- 31:26Speaker 5: like there were quite quite frequently a lot of injuries
- 31:28Speaker 5: that happen.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah, judging judging from judging from soccer.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Boy injuries and looks gruesome.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Absolutely Luckily, recovery time.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Seems a little quicker and it's like they're.
- 31:41Speaker 7: Playing in Bay Route.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt that the data would suggest that
- 31:46Speaker 3: there's a little bit more injuries on turf than grass,
- 31:49Speaker 3: but I think it does. You know, Credie were talking
- 31:50Speaker 3: about the generations of turf. It depends on how much
- 31:54Speaker 3: you invest in the turf, right, like you know. And
- 31:56Speaker 3: I think there's other places where the Super Bowl in
- 31:59Speaker 3: Arizona I ride a couple of years ago, or that
- 32:01Speaker 3: was a grass field and there's you know, dead patches
- 32:04Speaker 3: all over the place and guys were sliding around on
- 32:06Speaker 3: the paint and stuff like that. And so I think
- 32:09Speaker 3: there's pros and const to both, but clearly the players
- 32:11Speaker 3: think the grass is better and they practice a lot
- 32:14Speaker 3: of these teams practice on grass, but then they don't
- 32:16Speaker 3: play on grass. And I think that's where the the
- 32:18Speaker 3: argument is, is like, well, we prefer grass because we
- 32:21Speaker 3: practice on it every single day, but then when we
- 32:23Speaker 3: get into the stadium, it's turf because that's what's better
- 32:26Speaker 3: for the stadium.
- 32:26Speaker 2: That's a good point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, So
- 32:30Speaker 2: we kind of focused on a lot of the not controversies,
- 32:34Speaker 2: but you know, the storylines, the storylines, what are the
- 32:37Speaker 2: some of the uh, you know, real positive stuff that
- 32:40Speaker 2: you think are storylines that to start camp.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Well, I just I'd kick it off with what Evan
- 32:45Speaker 5: said about the talent that they've added, and you know,
- 32:47Speaker 5: I think they did a great job this offseason continuing
- 32:49Speaker 5: to build around Drake May. They drafted another first round
- 32:52Speaker 5: pickle on the offensive line. We'll see where he ends
- 32:54Speaker 5: up and how they work him in camp. But with
- 32:56Speaker 5: aj Brown Romeo Dobs coming in, you know, this is
- 32:59Speaker 5: what we always talk about. You get a young quarterback
- 33:01Speaker 5: on a rookie deal, this is the time to make
- 33:03Speaker 5: those moves and go get them receivers that can help him.
- 33:05Speaker 1: So, you know, we were all Enamorred with AJ Brown
- 33:08Speaker 1: when we saw him.
- 33:08Speaker 5: Here comes Drake, you know all about him this season,
- 33:11Speaker 5: but you know Romeo Dobs too.
- 33:13Speaker 1: How does he kind of fit in? What is his role?
- 33:15Speaker 1: How does he compliment A J. Brown? That's you know
- 33:17Speaker 1: what I'm most interested to see.
- 33:18Speaker 5: And then go right down the line with with the
- 33:20Speaker 5: guys that coming back. I know a lot of eyes
- 33:22Speaker 5: are going to be on Kyle Williams this year. He's
- 33:24Speaker 5: got some speed.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I think that is one element we talked about ed
- 33:26Speaker 1: that that they need in this receiver room. Is that
- 33:28Speaker 1: explosive ability.
- 33:29Speaker 5: We certainly saw it against Tampa Bay with that touchdown
- 33:32Speaker 5: he had. So the receiver room and Drake's chemistry with them,
- 33:35Speaker 5: how they do against this defense, especially Gonzales, you know
- 33:38Speaker 5: he isn't doing like the team stuff.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, here we go, Drake may number ten.
- 33:42Speaker 7: Thank goodness, Drake is here coming up that he's.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Going to make the team.
- 33:46Speaker 2: So do you think he looks bigger than last year?
- 33:49Speaker 1: Not really, I don't know.
- 33:50Speaker 8: I think he's always been a pretty well built guy.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's you know.
- 33:55Speaker 5: I still think he was a kid when he got here.
- 33:57Speaker 5: And every year you're going to see him kind of
- 33:59Speaker 5: fill out a little bit. He's on the NFL conditioning
- 34:01Speaker 5: and strength.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Program, so that helps. But yeah, look good year three.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I like what they've been saying about him playing
- 34:11Speaker 3: a little bit faster and playing with a little bit
- 34:14Speaker 3: more urgency.
- 34:14Speaker 8: I think was the word that Pray will use.
- 34:16Speaker 3: I had looked this up a couple of weeks ago,
- 34:18Speaker 3: and yes, last year they were twenty eighth in the
- 34:21Speaker 3: league in pace. Just like how quickly time wise they
- 34:25Speaker 3: moved offensively, and I think that that's something that you
- 34:29Speaker 3: can do to kind of keep defenses.
- 34:30Speaker 8: A little bit more off balance.
- 34:32Speaker 3: And not allowed them to just kind of sit there
- 34:34Speaker 3: and look at what you're doing and see your grouping
- 34:36Speaker 3: and your formation. So I think that that seems to
- 34:39Speaker 3: be the year two thing in this system. But Josh McDaniels,
- 34:43Speaker 3: the biggest emphasis seems to be with them going a
- 34:45Speaker 3: little bit faster offensively and getting out of the huddle
- 34:48Speaker 3: quicker and get in the play in faster, and I
- 34:51Speaker 3: think that would help with some of the things that
- 34:53Speaker 3: they saw.
- 34:53Speaker 4: And a lot of that's on Drake.
- 34:55Speaker 2: He need, you know, if your quarterback has all the answers,
- 34:58Speaker 2: if he, you know, gets it, you can go faster.
- 35:02Speaker 4: You know, that allows you to go faster.
- 35:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean just hearing from the coaches during OTAs
- 35:07Speaker 5: and just saying how last year he was really on
- 35:10Speaker 5: you know, maybe not high school level Josh offense, but
- 35:13Speaker 5: it's a first year not trying to throw the whole
- 35:15Speaker 5: kitchen sink at him out of the gate.
- 35:18Speaker 1: His development this year, though, and as he becomes a
- 35:19Speaker 1: master of this system.
- 35:20Speaker 5: I think that is what could offset any kind of
- 35:23Speaker 5: challenges that they that they might face.
- 35:25Speaker 1: We know he has all the physical.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Talent in the world, just can his mind reach that
- 35:29Speaker 5: level too, And then you're really I mean, you're gonna
- 35:31Speaker 5: have to complete player if that happens.
- 35:33Speaker 2: And you know, we talked in the past about the
- 35:36Speaker 2: new training center that the Patriots opened, the new Balance
- 35:39Speaker 2: Athletics Center within that and hopefully later on in August
- 35:43Speaker 2: we'll be able to actually show it to you. They
- 35:46Speaker 2: have this virtual room, which is this huge room with turf,
- 35:50Speaker 2: big huge led boards where you can bring Drake out
- 35:55Speaker 2: and you can simulate what he's seeing as a defense
- 35:58Speaker 2: and he can react to it real time. And uh,
- 36:01Speaker 2: you know, I'm sure all the teams have that now,
- 36:04Speaker 2: or at least most of the teams have it, but
- 36:06Speaker 2: that it's gonna be I'm sure he's gonna spend a
- 36:08Speaker 2: lot of time in that room going over all the
- 36:11Speaker 2: various defenses that he's going to see this year. And
- 36:14Speaker 2: the beautiful thing about it is on the other side
- 36:17Speaker 2: of the room are all the position meeting rooms. So
- 36:19Speaker 2: you have all these doors leading into this, so you know,
- 36:23Speaker 2: the linebackers will be meeting in their room. Then they
- 36:25Speaker 2: open the door and they walk out onto this virtual
- 36:28Speaker 2: field and put put into practice what they just learned
- 36:31Speaker 2: in the classroom. So it's it's really cool. It's really
- 36:34Speaker 2: well thought out. I can't I can't wait to, you know,
- 36:38Speaker 2: show fans what that all looks like.
- 36:40Speaker 1: No, it sounds really cool.
- 36:41Speaker 8: I want to I want to get a turn.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Can I get in there?
- 36:46Speaker 4: You want to get a turn in the virtual room?
- 36:47Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I've been asking for that for four years.
- 36:51Speaker 3: And can I go in there and with Drake and like,
- 36:54Speaker 3: you know, be like all right, all right against the Seattle.
- 36:59Speaker 3: It's the same as Maddie, right, Like it's not actually
- 37:01Speaker 3: getting hit, Like I just got to press the right
- 37:03Speaker 3: button on the controller.
- 37:04Speaker 1: That's what you think.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, maybe we can arrange that too.
- 37:09Speaker 5: Yeah, so content as much as the attention's going to
- 37:12Speaker 5: the stars too. And I thought, you know, Evan did
- 37:13Speaker 5: a great job setting up that there's you know, real
- 37:15Speaker 5: talent on the field.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Now.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I think for me, maybe the interesting thing, most interesting
- 37:19Speaker 1: thing in.
- 37:19Speaker 5: This campus just the depth battles and where are you know,
- 37:22Speaker 5: guys the third running back, you know, the third linebacker,
- 37:25Speaker 5: who's going to be filling in for Gonzales.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I mean, we saw Kendall Vildor this spring playing a
- 37:29Speaker 1: lot outside and there's a J. Brown. He's got a
- 37:32Speaker 1: pup with him.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Nice, he's got the dog in them.
- 37:34Speaker 1: But I think you go across.
- 37:35Speaker 5: This roster, there's a lot of really interesting depth battles.
- 37:38Speaker 5: You might know who the top line guys are, but
- 37:41Speaker 5: there are opportunities for a lot of these young guys
- 37:42Speaker 5: and maybe for a name that we're not really talking
- 37:44Speaker 5: about to emerge here as we get going in camp.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we're back into that world now where
- 37:48Speaker 3: we're talking about the third safety and the third running
- 37:53Speaker 3: back and who's going to be the backup in the
- 37:55Speaker 3: interior of the offensive line, and you know, edge dresser
- 37:59Speaker 3: depth not necessarily do they have enough frontline talent, but
- 38:03Speaker 3: you know, do they have enough guys behind those guys
- 38:05Speaker 3: to fill in? That brings me back to the gold,
- 38:08Speaker 3: good old days where it's like I don't know if
- 38:11Speaker 3: their fourth corner is gonna cut it, you know that
- 38:13Speaker 3: sort of thing. And I think that they are pretty
- 38:16Speaker 3: much besides maybe you know Eddrescher, which we keep harping on,
- 38:20Speaker 3: I think they're pretty much there where the frontline talent
- 38:23Speaker 3: is kind of taken care of and now we're just
- 38:25Speaker 3: talking about do they have enough depth to get through seasons.
- 38:28Speaker 5: It's kind of fun though, Like I like it, like
- 38:29Speaker 5: the premie that's that's our wheel house looking out there,
- 38:32Speaker 5: being like, oh god.
- 38:33Speaker 1: There's just nobody's no, there's no star talent on this team.
- 38:35Speaker 1: It's you know, you could be surprised by somebody.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Maybe there's a guy like Michael you like is the
- 38:41Speaker 5: most recent example.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Maybe, but six round pick becomes a starter? Does that
- 38:45Speaker 1: happen in another position?
- 38:46Speaker 5: You know, does a linebacker emerge that you weren't expecting
- 38:49Speaker 5: and maybe they're not just a depth guy. Maybe this
- 38:51Speaker 5: is a player that emergenc that has you know, real
- 38:53Speaker 5: starter potential.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I know that's rare. UH been doing this long enough
- 38:56Speaker 1: to know that you know, you're you're hoping for that
- 38:58Speaker 1: to happen. But I think the situation.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Is available across this roster that there's going to be
- 39:04Speaker 5: some guys that can make this team that we're not,
- 39:05Speaker 5: and you.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Know, you can't, you know, not emphasize the fact that
- 39:12Speaker 2: the coaching staff is in a situation now where they've
- 39:16Speaker 2: got everybody most you know, everybody back from last year,
- 39:19Speaker 2: a lot of continuity there, and that makes it possible
- 39:23Speaker 2: for these young guys to emerge if they have a
- 39:25Speaker 2: good coaching environment. You know, part of the challenge of
- 39:30Speaker 2: any coaching staff is understanding who your players are and
- 39:34Speaker 2: what their strengths and weaknesses are. And if you fully
- 39:37Speaker 2: understand that, that allows you then to put them in
- 39:39Speaker 2: positions to succeed and keep them out of positions where
- 39:42Speaker 2: they're going to fail because that's just not what they
- 39:45Speaker 2: do right Well, your.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Boy, Yeah, it's I felt like that last year, Fred,
- 39:51Speaker 3: where they got back to that where you know, Robert
- 39:53Speaker 3: Splayan has to miss some time, Milton Williams has to
- 39:55Speaker 3: miss some time, and those guys, their replacements weren't as
- 39:58Speaker 3: good a players as those frontline guys were, but they
- 40:02Speaker 3: still won games. It wasn't like, you know, they lost
- 40:05Speaker 3: Milon Williams and then they all of a sudden went
- 40:07Speaker 3: into the tank. And I you know, I think there's
- 40:09Speaker 3: a lot of guys on this roster that are new
- 40:12Speaker 3: you know, or newer you know, Corey Dirten, kJ Britt,
- 40:15Speaker 3: you know, those players that are going to now be
- 40:17Speaker 3: replacing Jack Gibbons and Kiris Toga. And you know, that's
- 40:21Speaker 3: the big question with this team is can kJ Britt
- 40:24Speaker 3: be as good, serviceable of a backup as Jack Gibbons
- 40:27Speaker 3: was And if Robert Splainer Christian Ellis has to miss time,
- 40:30Speaker 3: is he going to be able to fill in for
- 40:32Speaker 3: those guys like Jack Gibbons did Last year they had
- 40:35Speaker 3: a handful of those guys that really stepped up in
- 40:37Speaker 3: those types of situations.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yeah. And I've always said there's no team sport in
- 40:42Speaker 2: the world where coaching makes more of a difference in football.
- 40:45Speaker 2: You know, if you have a good coaching staff, they
- 40:47Speaker 2: know what they're doing, they're all on the same page.
- 40:50Speaker 2: It makes it that much better for the players, you know,
- 40:53Speaker 2: a learning environment and again putting them in positions to
- 40:57Speaker 2: succeed because you understand what they can do.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Good and what they can't do.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and everybody's back. I mean verybel talked about that
- 41:04Speaker 1: too yesterday.
- 41:06Speaker 5: Huge opportunity for them. I mean, clearly the system worked
- 41:09Speaker 5: to whatever extent.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I mean it worked. You know, they got to the
- 41:11Speaker 1: Super Bowl. We were too.
- 41:12Speaker 5: You know, at the beginning, the expectations were like, can
- 41:14Speaker 5: we just be the best of the bad teams?
- 41:16Speaker 7: You know, and then they were.
- 41:17Speaker 1: So now the bar raises.
- 41:19Speaker 5: A little bit, but I think having that continuity on
- 41:21Speaker 5: the coaching staff is just, you know, a huge bonus.
- 41:23Speaker 1: And let's talk about DeAndre Hopkins too, who.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Is going to be coaching a little Yeah, some of
- 41:29Speaker 2: the media.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Were a little bit confused yesterday, but you know, just
- 41:32Speaker 5: I know, the guy was just in the league last year.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But another veteran.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Voice in that receiver room that has a ton of experience.
- 41:39Speaker 5: Combined that with AJ Brown spent so much time talking
- 41:42Speaker 5: about Stefan Diggs and the impact he made off the field.
- 41:44Speaker 1: With his experience and his buyer.
- 41:46Speaker 5: You know, I'm not saying that that that he's gonna
- 41:48Speaker 5: confidence is going to come in here and be the
- 41:50Speaker 5: emotional leader of this team, but I do think that
- 41:53Speaker 5: that experience can only help that room.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Big media hoard around the owner in doctor Craft Dooming
- 42:00Speaker 2: talking about the dogs, but there might be some football
- 42:02Speaker 2: questions sprinkled in there, and if there are, we'll get
- 42:05Speaker 2: them to you later on. Obviously practice hasn't officially started yet,
- 42:10Speaker 2: but it will in a few minutes.
- 42:13Speaker 6: So yeah, the whole thing, like with the roster, and
- 42:16Speaker 6: I would agree with you all the stuff that you
- 42:18Speaker 6: guys mentioned. I think Mike hit on something very early
- 42:21Speaker 6: in the show though, like it it's amazing when your
- 42:25Speaker 6: quarterback hits how your roster looks so much better because
- 42:29Speaker 6: I think if you were having the problems that they had,
- 42:31Speaker 6: and I used to say this with Brady all the time,
- 42:33Speaker 6: so I'm being very consistent. They had some years they
- 42:36Speaker 6: were more talented than others. Fourteen is a glaring example.
- 42:40Speaker 6: They had more they had more base level talents across
- 42:43Speaker 6: the board than in most of those years.
- 42:45Speaker 7: But it didn't matter.
- 42:46Speaker 6: They they go to the Super Bowl all the time,
- 42:48Speaker 6: they were going to the AFC Championship, what eleven years
- 42:50Speaker 6: in a row, whatever, it was not all of those
- 42:52Speaker 6: teams were as talented as the twenty fourteen. But when
- 42:57Speaker 6: you got it in that position, when you got it solved,
- 43:00Speaker 6: it lifts everything around it, and that that to me
- 43:03Speaker 6: will be the key is right where Mike kicked off
- 43:07Speaker 6: the show. Can Drake may get even better or establish
- 43:11Speaker 6: himself that when.
- 43:12Speaker 7: Last year is the norm, that's what it's going to be.
- 43:16Speaker 6: Stats aside, that level of play, is that what he
- 43:19Speaker 6: is and if you get that the next ten twelve years.
- 43:22Speaker 7: You're going to be a contender.
- 43:24Speaker 3: I mean, I'm looking at the receivers even last year
- 43:26Speaker 3: and not any disrespect to those guys and made some
- 43:29Speaker 3: great plays, but like Kaishan Boudi, you know Mac Collins, like.
- 43:33Speaker 8: Are those guys that good? Or did Drake may look.
- 43:38Speaker 7: The ball is.
- 43:41Speaker 3: But you know they just were showing Rabel working with
- 43:44Speaker 3: Jack Westover and Hunter Henry and I just think tight
- 43:46Speaker 3: end is such a major uh position on this roster too.
- 43:51Speaker 3: We talked so much about the edge and rightfully so,
- 43:53Speaker 3: but behind Hunter Henry right now there is I think
- 43:56Speaker 3: their combined catches of their career is one. I think
- 44:01Speaker 3: if I'm not mistaken, and Jack it's Jack Westover catch
- 44:03Speaker 3: on the flat. You know, it's not exactly a more
- 44:07Speaker 3: dynamic play. So Eli Riarden is a guy that has
- 44:10Speaker 3: a lot on his plate right now. Yeah, he's gonna
- 44:12Speaker 3: have to be the backup tight end or they're gonna
- 44:15Speaker 3: have to go out of house and bring somebody in
- 44:17Speaker 3: at some point during training camp if he's not ready
- 44:20Speaker 3: for it. So, uh, you lose Julian Hill in the spring,
- 44:22Speaker 3: you at Austin Hooper walk. I think that's another spot
- 44:26Speaker 3: that is just as glaring to me, along with the
- 44:28Speaker 3: edge that that they could need some reinforcements there in
- 44:31Speaker 3: a couple of weeks.
- 44:32Speaker 5: I know, sorry, Fred, just I mean it's surprising because
- 44:34Speaker 5: we thought they would sign somebody and the two people
- 44:36Speaker 5: they signed were Mitch Vamba Camp, Franklin more.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Camp body type. So we'll see. But those guys are
- 44:41Speaker 1: going to get some opportunities.
- 44:42Speaker 5: So you know, Jack Westover, he always just seems these
- 44:45Speaker 5: last couple of years, just seems to make it through
- 44:48Speaker 5: somehow finds.
- 44:48Speaker 1: A role played fullback last year. He's another one to watch,
- 44:51Speaker 1: all right.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So in a few seconds, we're gonna have to turn
- 44:54Speaker 2: off our field cameras. I think they have to. That's
- 44:57Speaker 2: it right now, only for period one. So as soon
- 45:00Speaker 2: as period one is over and period two starts, will
- 45:04Speaker 2: turn those cameras back on. So why do we have
- 45:06Speaker 2: to do that three minutes. It's because probably in period
- 45:09Speaker 2: one they're actually walking through some of the plays that
- 45:13Speaker 2: they're gonna do later on they go eleven and eleven,
- 45:16Speaker 2: and they don't necessarily want that stuff streamed out live
- 45:19Speaker 2: all over the world.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Now, so now I can understand that usually works that way.
- 45:23Speaker 1: It's a little preview of what we're going to be
- 45:24Speaker 1: working on. Let's walk through it. We talked about it
- 45:26Speaker 1: earlier this morning in the meeting. Walk through that. Okay,
- 45:29Speaker 1: now let's get stretched out individual drills. We'll get back
- 45:31Speaker 1: to it. We'll see some team stuff later.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I do like you can really tell that about a
- 45:36Speaker 3: VRABEL practice that it all kind of builds over the
- 45:39Speaker 3: course of the practice. First they do it in the classroom,
- 45:42Speaker 3: then they come out and they do it in a
- 45:43Speaker 3: walk through from the best Yeah, then they do it
- 45:46Speaker 3: in a jog through, and then they actually do it
- 45:47Speaker 3: at full speed. And you can tell how that like
- 45:50Speaker 3: repetition is going to make sure that these guys understand
- 45:52Speaker 3: the plays that they're supposed to be running at a
- 45:54Speaker 3: high level.
- 45:55Speaker 7: It's kind of cool to watch it.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah, And every team does that same thing, except for
- 46:00Speaker 2: back in the day the Atlanta Falcons. That that practice
- 46:04Speaker 2: that we were at, that was one of the most
- 46:06Speaker 2: disorganisms We had a joint practice with Atlanta Mike Smith.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Mike Mike Smith was the coach walking around with this
- 46:13Speaker 2: pits helmet and it was it was you know, it
- 46:17Speaker 2: was one of we had great dvantage. We were like
- 46:19Speaker 2: right on the field in between the two practice fields.
- 46:21Speaker 2: But it was one of the most disorganized practice I've
- 46:24Speaker 2: ever been to it.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say not everybody does that, because
- 46:27Speaker 3: I've seen some disorganized practices.
- 46:29Speaker 7: Here where I'm like, wait, what are we doing?
- 46:31Speaker 3: But you know here there's a clear sort of just
- 46:35Speaker 3: like emphasis on on certain things or you know, organization
- 46:39Speaker 3: to it that. Yeah, it's pretty easy to pick up
- 46:41Speaker 3: on after you know, you watch it a couple of times.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Every practice has a reason, you know, for being out there,
- 46:47Speaker 2: and they build, like you said, they build up to
- 46:50Speaker 2: the end where it all needs to come together.
- 46:52Speaker 5: I mean you heard braves hit on it. I mean
- 46:54Speaker 5: you're running in and off the field. I mean they
- 46:55Speaker 5: want that game kind of tempo to it.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, if you do it enough and practice,
- 47:00Speaker 2: when by the time you get to the game, like okay,
- 47:03Speaker 2: we've done that before. This is just how I remember that.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a little bit of a nugget from
- 47:10Speaker 3: Robert Kraft's media availability. Okay, he said that this is
- 47:14Speaker 3: from Doug Kay and he said that the Patriots have
- 47:16Speaker 3: offered Christian Gonzalez a contract that would make him the
- 47:19Speaker 3: highest paid cornerback in the NFL and the highest paid
- 47:21Speaker 3: player in team history.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Wow.
- 47:24Speaker 5: That feeds into what Paul said to me of the
- 47:26Speaker 5: question with that, but is it high enough?
- 47:29Speaker 2: Yeah? Does the agent agree with that characterization?
- 47:32Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 47:33Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, there's a lot of details highest paid,
- 47:38Speaker 2: what's the guarantee? Like, what's what's all that stuff like? So,
- 47:41Speaker 2: but it's good to at least hear that the offer
- 47:45Speaker 2: has been made and the numbers are up there.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just like, again, it goes back to what
- 47:50Speaker 5: Paul said, is is it enough?
- 47:51Speaker 1: How much does he want? You know, it's it's weird
- 47:54Speaker 1: how these things all work out, and.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Is it you know, is it smart for him to
- 48:00Speaker 2: not accept it until witherspo Yeah, you know, so it's
- 48:04Speaker 2: a stare down.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I'm just curious to see what do we
- 48:09Speaker 6: how are we judging the highest paid player in Patriot history?
- 48:12Speaker 3: I'm just relaying what the man said.
- 48:14Speaker 6: All right, didn't Tom Brady make like fifty two million
- 48:17Speaker 6: one year? Does that not count?
- 48:20Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 48:21Speaker 6: Well, I'm assuming I'm going to guess Christian Zalas is
- 48:23Speaker 6: not going to get an annual value.
- 48:25Speaker 8: I'm assuming it's total value of the contract.
- 48:28Speaker 7: I would assume that too. Yeah, which gets back to
- 48:30Speaker 7: Fred's point.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Right, Well, I think Milton Williams right now currently has
- 48:34Speaker 3: the highest because it's just going to be the next
- 48:36Speaker 3: big ticket guy that I sign.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 48:38Speaker 3: The other thing that was out there is Mike Reeves
- 48:40Speaker 3: reporting that the Patriots have made progress with gay Bacus
- 48:43Speaker 3: on a contract, and he's being told that they are
- 48:46Speaker 3: are making significant progress there and to get a deal done,
- 48:51Speaker 3: so hopefully, you know, as long as I feel like
- 48:53Speaker 3: with Acus, if he's here by pads, then I'm pretty
- 48:55Speaker 3: then I think we're right.
- 48:57Speaker 7: But like the health to me is like that.
- 49:01Speaker 6: I thought Mike did a good job of explaining that, like, yeah,
- 49:03Speaker 6: we hope he is. We don't know, would be crazy
- 49:06Speaker 6: that he comes, he's here, he's signed, he's on pop
- 49:10Speaker 6: Well he almost can he notot be right?
- 49:15Speaker 3: Why he's on pup if he comes and fails the
- 49:17Speaker 3: conditioning test, then he's going to go on Puppah.
- 49:20Speaker 7: But my guess is he won't take it right away.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Yeah, so they got to check him out. I mean
- 49:24Speaker 5: there'll be some uncertainty even that initial news of oh
- 49:27Speaker 5: this is great, he signed. I think there's still be
- 49:29Speaker 5: some hurdles to get over.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Where's thatch, where's Zach is from? Where does he live?
- 49:34Speaker 3: I don't know. He played at Illinois.
- 49:36Speaker 8: I don't know where he's from.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Florida originally okay, because you know, Rabel said he's not
- 49:41Speaker 2: New England. I just wonder where where in the world
- 49:44Speaker 2: is gay Bad?
- 49:45Speaker 7: Well, he keeps posting on Florida's hometown.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Yeah, he keeps posting the videos of him working out
- 49:51Speaker 3: on social media, like going through you know, pass rush
- 49:54Speaker 3: drills and stuff like that. And he looked he looks healthy,
- 49:58Speaker 3: but obviously those are curated to probably can look healthy.
- 50:01Speaker 8: So you know who knows sating with one leg?
- 50:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he puts out video of himself limping. It's like,
- 50:07Speaker 2: you need to talk to yourself.
- 50:09Speaker 1: It's got like the ice bags on his knees and
- 50:11Speaker 1: it's not looking out Now.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Christian Gonzalez, he.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Was Christian Gonzalez was playing catch with some of the fans. Uh,
- 50:18Speaker 3: walking around throwing throwing the ball around with some of
- 50:20Speaker 3: the fans before practice.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Okay, little pr Yeah, exactly.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Working with Carlton Davis. We'll see what his schedules like
- 50:28Speaker 1: this summer. I mean, no player.
- 50:30Speaker 5: We uh thought I lost him for the season, and
- 50:32Speaker 5: then he was just farmed last year.
- 50:34Speaker 2: But you know, getting back to the talents of Christian Gonzales,
- 50:40Speaker 2: we saw it right away. He's so fluid out there,
- 50:43Speaker 2: you know, he's so graceful. Yeah, and that is a
- 50:46Speaker 2: rare thing. That's a rare thing. Revis was like that obviously,
- 50:50Speaker 2: Dion Sanders was like that. But to be able to
- 50:53Speaker 2: mirror a wide receiver the way he does is a
- 50:57Speaker 2: rare thing.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I think, you know, maybe he'll end up being
- 51:00Speaker 3: a better player. But he reminds me in all ways
- 51:03Speaker 3: of Steph Gilmore, like just size, athleticism, fluidity, personality, Like
- 51:09Speaker 3: it just seems like he's a carbon copy of and
- 51:11Speaker 3: Gilmore is a defensive Player of the Year, you know,
- 51:13Speaker 3: and he's really really good player. So I just I
- 51:17Speaker 3: remember his fluidity standing out at his combine. His combine
- 51:21Speaker 3: workout is like you put that on, and like, if
- 51:24Speaker 3: you're a cornerback prospect going into the draft and you
- 51:26Speaker 3: want to see what should my ideal workout look like,
- 51:29Speaker 3: just go watch Christian Gonzales go through the drills at
- 51:32Speaker 3: the combine in Indianapolis.
- 51:33Speaker 5: I mean, it's unbelievable us watching the draft and being
- 51:36Speaker 5: like he kept falling and yeah, and then he's there
- 51:40Speaker 5: for the taking.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Get him. I still got him.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I think Parcels used to call it swivel hips,
- 51:46Speaker 2: those swivel hips to cornerback.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Now he's outstanding.
- 51:51Speaker 5: I mean, look, in a perfect world, was he was
- 51:53Speaker 5: he a little bit more of a crazy tackle?
- 51:55Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think he's fine. I just
- 51:57Speaker 1: I think.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Bad rap that he's got. I've seen him come up
- 52:01Speaker 2: in space and get down and it's not always the
- 52:04Speaker 2: greatest form, but he does the job.
- 52:06Speaker 4: He gets it done.
- 52:08Speaker 3: That's I thought he tackled better as the season more on,
- 52:10Speaker 3: and I know that there was some reporting about that
- 52:13Speaker 3: that maybe they challenged him to tackle a little bit better.
- 52:15Speaker 8: Around the Baltimore game.
- 52:16Speaker 2: I think there's no doubt. I think if you listen
- 52:18Speaker 2: to Rabel, I think being physical and being a little
- 52:21Speaker 2: closer to the line was something that he was pushing
- 52:23Speaker 2: him to do. Yeah.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they want to roll the coverage a
- 52:26Speaker 3: little bit more than maybe they did in the old system,
- 52:29Speaker 3: where he's playing the flat a lot more with the
- 52:31Speaker 3: safety behind him. And if you're going to play that,
- 52:33Speaker 3: you want him to be a better tackler because there
- 52:36Speaker 3: because they're funneling the runs out to the wide edges,
- 52:38Speaker 3: so you want to be able to have your corners
- 52:41Speaker 3: tackle and come up and tackle. And I thought I
- 52:43Speaker 3: saw more of that as as the season.
- 52:45Speaker 2: War and listen two years ago before of Rabel, weren't
- 52:48Speaker 2: they just terrible on the edge containing the run? It
- 52:52Speaker 2: was just with you.
- 52:55Speaker 5: But I think to the thing with him is like
- 52:56Speaker 5: he's so athletic that like he has the ability to
- 52:59Speaker 5: a job and get into a good position to make
- 53:01Speaker 5: a tackle. Like he doesn't have to just come and
- 53:04Speaker 5: blast the guy because he's you know, and he's not
- 53:06Speaker 5: trying to like overwhelm with physicality.
- 53:08Speaker 1: He's got the athleticism to form tackle and get into
- 53:10Speaker 1: good position. So I don't know, he can't make every
- 53:13Speaker 1: player perfect.
- 53:14Speaker 5: There's a little bit more I like got him. And
- 53:16Speaker 5: that's probably where you might look at Witherspoon all right,
- 53:18Speaker 5: and a little bit more of that in him, more feisty.
- 53:20Speaker 5: But it's fine. It's these kind of elite athletes are
- 53:23Speaker 5: so hard to find and get in the building.
- 53:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 3: I remember talking to his coaches when they've drafted him back,
- 53:29Speaker 3: you know, in twenty twenty three, and they said that
- 53:31Speaker 3: he's such a good athlete that sometimes it looks like
- 53:34Speaker 3: he's not trying because he's so it's just so effortless
- 53:36Speaker 3: for him to move around the field. And you know,
- 53:39Speaker 3: it's not that he's not trying, he's just that he's
- 53:41Speaker 3: just that naturally gifted. I think sometimes that rat Fred
- 53:44Speaker 3: comes from that where it's like he just makes it
- 53:46Speaker 3: look so easy, right, you don't think that he's actually
- 53:49Speaker 3: going full.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Till Yeah, he's a finesse player and he's not.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Yeah, are no so three corners?
- 53:54Speaker 2: Speaking of natural gifts, we talked about the hope hopeful
- 54:00Speaker 2: movement of the offensive line, the addition of Gilliam at
- 54:03Speaker 2: full back, you know, a true full back, Trevion Henderson.
- 54:07Speaker 2: I mean, what's the opportunity there for him, because if
- 54:10Speaker 2: there was a knock on him, it was being maybe
- 54:12Speaker 2: a little bit too patient in the backfield, not having
- 54:14Speaker 2: the right vision, not hitting the hole, not being decisive enough.
- 54:19Speaker 2: But now maybe with the holes being a little bit
- 54:22Speaker 2: bigger and with it having you know, Gilliam in front
- 54:25Speaker 2: of him, what kind of season could we see from
- 54:28Speaker 2: Trevion Henderson?
- 54:30Speaker 1: I mean, hopefully explosive.
- 54:31Speaker 5: I think that's you know, the biggest thing to me
- 54:33Speaker 5: were those big plays that he had. But you're right, Fred,
- 54:36Speaker 5: I think you need a little more vision, You need
- 54:37Speaker 5: a little more and passed protection for him to you
- 54:39Speaker 5: know fully Earn Well, I didn't mention.
- 54:41Speaker 3: That, but that's tracks that's the biggest thing to me.
- 54:44Speaker 3: I want to see him take that next step as
- 54:46Speaker 3: a receiver out of the backfield because I think his
- 54:48Speaker 3: ability to stretch the field vertically out of the backfield
- 54:50Speaker 3: could be really dynamic.
- 54:52Speaker 8: And we see at practice.
- 54:53Speaker 3: I keep going back to that joint practice against the
- 54:55Speaker 3: Vikings last year where he took one up the sideline
- 54:57Speaker 3: for like sixty yards.
- 54:59Speaker 8: You see that speed.
- 55:01Speaker 3: You get him matched up on a linebacker on a
- 55:03Speaker 3: wheel route, and who's winning, you know, we we know.
- 55:05Speaker 3: But in order to do that, the details, the pass protection,
- 55:08Speaker 3: the route you know, routes, the route combinations and the
- 55:11Speaker 3: options and all these different things that they throw at
- 55:13Speaker 3: running backs.
- 55:14Speaker 8: If you don't trust him.
- 55:15Speaker 3: To be on the field in those situations from a
- 55:17Speaker 3: mental standpoint, then you can't accentuate the speed in the
- 55:21Speaker 3: passing game, you know, screen game, screen back. I think
- 55:24Speaker 3: you can be.
- 55:24Speaker 8: Really good at that as well.
- 55:26Speaker 3: But you know, there's a lot of mental stuff that
- 55:28Speaker 3: comes with all those different things, and that's what kept
- 55:30Speaker 3: them off the field.
- 55:31Speaker 2: I think. I think, you know, as Rayba would say,
- 55:33Speaker 2: it's critical that he does earn that trust to be
- 55:37Speaker 2: out there on passing situations, and I.
- 55:39Speaker 8: Think it can be such a threat.
- 55:41Speaker 3: You know, you can flex them out, you can put them,
- 55:43Speaker 3: have him run wheels and seams.
- 55:44Speaker 8: Out of the backfield.
- 55:45Speaker 3: You can throw them the ball on screens and like
- 55:47Speaker 3: he does any way that they can get him into
- 55:50Speaker 3: the open field with that speed and no one's catching him.
- 55:53Speaker 8: So if you get him in the open field on a.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Screen, it's a touchdown, you know, And that's what you
- 55:58Speaker 3: really hope to see.
- 55:59Speaker 2: If they have another tight end to compliment Hunter, Henry, you.
- 56:04Speaker 3: Know that was I mean, maybe, like Julian, you would
- 56:06Speaker 3: have to say, this offense.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Is absolutely loaded. I mean loaded.
- 56:10Speaker 1: They got everything at their disposal and that's you know, exciting.
- 56:13Speaker 5: Julian Hill would have given you that extra element you needed.
- 56:15Speaker 5: That's one unfortunate part of it all. But you know,
- 56:18Speaker 5: this is good shot here of trading on. But I
- 56:20Speaker 5: point out Land Larrison and jam Miller, the two you know,
- 56:23Speaker 5: other backs that have a real opportunity to get in
- 56:25Speaker 5: there and play.
- 56:26Speaker 8: I mean, we have Patriots breaking news.
- 56:29Speaker 7: Christiana was signed.
- 56:31Speaker 3: The Patriots have signed Gay Accus a year, eight point
- 56:35Speaker 3: six million dollars contract.
- 56:37Speaker 7: Awesome person. Jordan Schultz with it.
- 56:39Speaker 3: First, I trust Jordan Schultz at this point and I really.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Don't, but I'm gonna go with it, Trustywhere but to
- 56:45Speaker 1: the star bus.
- 56:46Speaker 3: So gay Accus is signed. Well, he's not out here today,
- 56:50Speaker 3: but hopefully that means maybe they can get him back,
- 56:53Speaker 3: you know, and get him on the field, you know,
- 56:55Speaker 3: say in a week, and he can sort of catch up.
- 56:58Speaker 1: That's a armstrings.
- 57:00Speaker 4: So that's a great domino to fall.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Because again we'll remind everyone, it's the same agent as
- 57:05Speaker 2: Christian Gonzales, right, So the wheels are moving. Yeah, So
- 57:09Speaker 2: the isis thought when it comes to acis with the agent.
- 57:13Speaker 4: Hopefully the next thing to happen.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Is Yeah, it's great. That's a great start.
- 57:18Speaker 2: That's great. That's good news, really really good news to
- 57:21Speaker 2: start off day one with camp. You got your second
- 57:24Speaker 2: round draft pick at a position of need into the folds,
- 57:29Speaker 2: so let's get his ass out here.
- 57:31Speaker 7: I'm Sarah.
- 57:33Speaker 1: We could use it all, but I do love you know.
- 57:36Speaker 5: I think now it's like we just talked about five
- 57:38Speaker 5: minutes ago before.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Is he healthy? Is he ready to come in and
- 57:41Speaker 1: do the conditioning test?
- 57:42Speaker 7: Is he you know?
- 57:43Speaker 5: And I always worry hamstrings come in. You haven't been around,
- 57:47Speaker 5: you haven't been working out. Always worry about the hamstocks,
- 57:50Speaker 5: tes guys, the.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Soft tissue stuff, which we know Rages hates. But great
- 57:54Speaker 1: to have him. They need him if he can be out.
- 57:56Speaker 5: Here by you know, Thursday, Friday when they're going to
- 57:58Speaker 5: start to get into paths time.
- 58:00Speaker 3: And I would just love to hear his perspective too.
- 58:02Speaker 3: And I don't know when exactly they'll make him available.
- 58:04Speaker 3: That might be ways away, but when he is available,
- 58:07Speaker 3: I'm there's two sides to every story, and we've only
- 58:10Speaker 3: really heard Rabel's point of view right now of what
- 58:14Speaker 3: exactly he went down.
- 58:16Speaker 2: And listen, now that he's here, I don't care.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Let's move back.
- 58:22Speaker 8: I don't care about the contract. I care about his health.
- 58:25Speaker 3: Like I I don't really care about the contract at all,
- 58:27Speaker 3: but the health piece of it.
- 58:29Speaker 2: But if he's out there, then you can assume that
- 58:32Speaker 2: he passed every night.
- 58:34Speaker 3: But is he Sony Michelle, all right, we'll.
- 58:36Speaker 2: See is he not?
- 58:37Speaker 1: Easily?
- 58:38Speaker 2: We don't know that.
- 58:39Speaker 4: I mean, that only comes a time.
- 58:40Speaker 3: That's my question though.
- 58:41Speaker 8: You know, like that, that's what I want to know.
- 58:43Speaker 3: I want to know.
- 58:44Speaker 8: You know, do I have to worry about that? You know,
- 58:46Speaker 8: this guy's career is because for.
- 58:48Speaker 6: The reason he didn't just sign like everybody else does. Wow,
- 58:51Speaker 6: we don't know what it is.
- 58:52Speaker 2: We don't know what it is. But if he's out
- 58:54Speaker 2: there and he's contributing, and he's in pads and no limitations,
- 58:58Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 58:59Speaker 6: Just so would you not care if he's not a
- 59:01Speaker 6: Patriot in two years? Because that's what we're talking about.
- 59:05Speaker 6: That's the concern. But I'm just saying that's the concern.
- 59:11Speaker 6: He might get two sacks in the first game, but
- 59:13Speaker 6: if he's not a Patriot next.
- 59:14Speaker 7: Year, like we're good? What good is that?
- 59:16Speaker 6: That's kind of what Sony, Yes, that's what like Sony
- 59:18Speaker 6: Michelle thing, that's what Evan's talking about.
- 59:20Speaker 1: I think there's two things I didn't mean to.
- 59:22Speaker 3: I didn't even I didn't mean to you went to wait,
- 59:23Speaker 3: he went way dark there. But but but that, I
- 59:26Speaker 3: don't know what else it could have been at this point,
- 59:29Speaker 3: you know, like it's got to be something and going
- 59:32Speaker 3: into the drigos, but it's maybe I mean going into
- 59:35Speaker 3: the draft. There was a lot of people that were
- 59:37Speaker 3: saying he was going to go early second round in
- 59:39Speaker 3: the thirties, and he slid a little bit, you know,
- 59:41Speaker 3: he went about twenty twenty five picks later. Then some
- 59:44Speaker 3: people thought he was going to go. And then all
- 59:46Speaker 3: this reporting comes out, especially from Mike Reese, who had
- 59:48Speaker 3: a litany of things that teams were were red flagging
- 59:52Speaker 3: with him.
- 59:52Speaker 8: Hamstring, knee, shoulder, but like all.
- 59:55Speaker 3: These different things, so everybody kind of had a different story,
- 59:59Speaker 3: and we went we.
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: Went dark with Sony Michelle. So I'm going to take
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: the other side. I'm going to do but I'm going
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: to do the Nakobe Dean, Rob Gronkouse, He's not an
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: example of this.
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: The Nakobe Dean had this. Nakobe Dean had this.
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: I'm not going to argue with you about bron But
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: Nakobe Dean had this kind of litany of injuries that
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: teams needed special like protection, and and he has played
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: and he's been productive.
- 1:00:30Speaker 7: He's been a good player.
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: You know, he's dealt with injuries just like everybody else
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: in the NFL. But he's been active for the Eagles
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: and he's been a big part of the defense. So
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: it doesn't mean that it has to be like Sony Michelle,
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: and you know, he has a decent first year and
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: then he kind of you know, the knee on knee
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: thing or Dominique Easley, He's never really able to get
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: on the field.
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: It doesn't have to be bad.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: That's the jump that I don't know that we necessarily
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: have to make.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Just because yes, he had some injury flags, he needed
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: a clean up surgery. That doesn't necessarily mean that he
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: has a chronic injury issue that is going to haunt them.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: I guess that's what the Patriots were trying to protect
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: themselves about.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: But if he had to clean up without telling them,
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: is it about the contract and is it about the
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: communication or is it about the long term injury, because
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: it could just be about the contract.
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: He just signed today.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: No, no, but he was saying, is it about you
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: just didn't tell us. We didn't know about this. We
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: need to protection. We were pissed and we need a cleanup.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: Does that necessarily he's not unsigned because they're pissed, but
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: he signed?
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Why he didn't.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: Sign today because they were pissed? Why it hurts them?
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: Why can't try to protect them? They were trying to
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: protect themselves.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: But why can't a guy just have a cleanup surgery
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: and didn't tell anybody?
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And that's an issue? But why does that happen?
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: Why would that affect his contract because he didn't tell them?
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: So why does that affect his contract.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Because he didn't tell them? And if that's an injury
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that they didn't know about, they want some protection on it.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Why because they had to clean up without telling them?
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: Okay, so what's the danger he didn't tell them? They're mad?
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: Don't do that again. Yeah, but not sign right here?
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: But that means you.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: Got a clean up surgery out telling us you have
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: a chronic the issue that's going to.
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: But now I'm in.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: But now you just said the word now, But that's
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: the death the dog, that's the fear and I have
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: to think that they didn't just do this dog and
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: pony show for nothing nocause the reason the Patriots wanted.
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: Some protection, and I don't think it's because. I think
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: that because they're concerned. There's Those are two very different
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: things in my.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Opinion, Like it both could be true.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: And oh, there's no doubt that they were irritated, but
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: that's not why he's not signed, is my point.
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: I don't hit this on the head.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: I think we're going to learn a lot about this
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: whole situation of whether or not he passes his physical
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: and is on pupp or and if I to start
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: his tenure here with the Patriots, if.
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: I would just say he better pass his physical and
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: be on the field right if he.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Shows up like I don't know if he'll be tomorrow,
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: but let's just say he shows up tomorrow and he's
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: just number fifties, just out there and it's just like
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: nothing ever happened.
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: Then we can all pretty much, Mike.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: I'll say that that some of the what Mike is
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: talking about, they're they're convinced that he's healthy. If he's
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: you know, if it's like business as usual, I expect
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: him to be out here quickly.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: I really do now what's quickly.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: And of the way.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: Quickly these four days like it's it's Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: Before that's over, I expect to see.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: So like will he be in the first fully padded practice.
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: He's going to be out there.
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: I don't know if he'll be ready for a fully
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: padded practice just in terms of what Mike is talking about,
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: like conditioning soft tissue stuff, I don't know about that,
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: but I think physically he'll be ready for the first practice.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: I'm more I always want to see if he ends
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: up on a list that that's really you know, maybe
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: they slow play it and they ease him into it
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: just from being out there, but you just want him
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: out there. You know, if he's on in a fire,
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: if he's on pump, that tells me that there's still
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: structurally something.
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: I do expect to see him quickly.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: With modern medicine the way it is, and you know
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: we're in Boston, our team doctors hail from mass General Brigham.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Is there a way to know if a guy is
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: gonna have a chronic knee injury or any type of injury? Yeah?
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: Absolutely, I mean cardinal left in his knee.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Yeah, they they talked about it. I can't hate to
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: keep going back to it, but they talked about it
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: with Sony Michelle going into the draft that teams were
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: aware that that he was going to have a shorter career.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Malcolm Mitchell, teams were aware that he was going to
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: have a shorter career. So that that definitely whatever technology
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: they use, I'm not.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: But Patriots signed him anyway. They drafted him anyway, So what.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: Well, a shorter career doesn't mean he's not gonna play
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: at all. You know, even if he's good for four
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: or five years, you're still you know, getting value out
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: of that. So, you know, I think it's where in
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: terms of chronic knee injuries and things like that, I
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: think it's a combination of are you going to have
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: to manage this like, you know, day in and day out,
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: and he's gonna have to manage practice reps and manage
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: you know, things like that, and too obviously looking at
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: it from a long term perspective of a second contract
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: in those types things, you know, is he going to
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: be able to play.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: For a while? Yeah.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: I just the thing, it's just like the disconnect for me, though,
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: is we knew about Sony Michelle Dominic Easley towards a
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: cl six times before he got her whatever it was, like,
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: gay Back has played fifty games, like he wasn't like
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: this chronic injured guy who couldn't really get on the
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: field like he was out there, you know, so maybe
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: he was banged up. I just I pushed back.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: It's the same thing on A J.
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: Brown where you say the word chronic knee injury and
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: everyone thinks that the guy is.
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: Oh, I don't think Brown had a chronic knee injury.
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: JJ Brown's been in the league eight years.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Well, but isn't this even an issue for a while?
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: That's now injury?
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: Like he might be dealing with an injury that he
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: has now that has effect that hasn't effected him throughout
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: his career.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Oh okay, he got this was last year.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, Well, the injury and there's a concern that
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: it's a lingering injury, like the knee is not okay
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: right now, but not not like coming out of whole miss.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: No, but when when he was in Tennessee towards the
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: end of Tennessee and granted this is from Tennessee's side
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: when they made that trade. But from that perspective, there
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: was reporting at the time that they were had a
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: long term well maybe, but then he went on to
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: have fifteen hundred yards and was an Allpro with the Eagles,
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: So you know, everything kind of this is different.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: They talk about it doesn't really okay.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: But a J.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: Brown we know can play in the league. We don't
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: know if gay Bachus complained in the league yet. So
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I'm a little more willing to take a risk with
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: AJ Brown that his knee is okay or not okay
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: versus a guy that hasn't played a snap in the
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: NFL yet.
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: We don't know if gay back is is good.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I don't know. The word chronic To me,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: it comes up a lot.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: We can use a synonym of chronic for you to
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: make you feel a little bit better.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Well, an existing injury, long long term concerns.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: It's just it's just the fact this guy's not gonna
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: be able to make it through his rookie year deal
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: because his knee is gonna explain it like that.
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: I have no idea even what the injury is. I
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: know that Mike Rabel said he had a kneed procedure.
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: That's all I know. Like, I don't know even what
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: the problem red flag, if there is one even is
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: on it might not even be about his knee.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Right, Well, that's what Evan said, you know that. They
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: were like, I have no idea.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: He plays hard, he signed, he'll be out here delivered soon.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: Let's go, let's go.
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: What has happened to our show?
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Let's go?
- 1:07:12Speaker 8: All right, I'm trying, Paul, I know, we just can't.
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: Like, Yeah, it's unfortunate.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: What are you mad about? What's the matter put up
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: into our show?
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: What we I guess gott to look forward to this
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: all year or two?
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: What's that being positive?
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: No?
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Okay, so we're what are we doing out here? What
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: does this look like? We're doing some doing some.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Yeah, protection protection, Yes, you got the long snapper right
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: there in the middle, that's Ashby. So we're just coming
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: out of our stance and protecting the punter.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Braden Swinson. I think Braden Swinson can make a make
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: a push it all here. I mean he was drafted,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: make it.
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: The big thing that I keep going back with Braiden Swinson,
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: and I feel like I'm repeating myself because this is
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: all we've talked to for the last couple of weeks.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: But a lot of the concerns coming out of the
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: draft with him were maturity, like personality maturity and him,
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: you know, accepting and growing into being a pro.
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: The concerns were not ability.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: He was a top one hundred talent in his draft
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: class that fell a couple of rounds because teams were
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: a little bit worried about him buying into the program,
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: and all last year it kind of felt like that
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: was the focus, like, let's not focus quite as much
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: on you actually playing this year on the football field,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: but let's focus on you getting into our program and
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: getting your feet.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Wet in the NFL.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: So hopefully that's behind him and he's sort of going
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: to take that next step now physically on the field.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: But I remember, you know, most of the projections had
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: him as a third round pick, top one hundred guy
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: in that draft, and we had Dan Bruger on at
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: one point and I was like, why did he follow
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: a couple of rounds?
- 1:08:52Speaker 8: And that was the beast himself.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: That was his answer was that it was a lot
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: of you know stuff concerns, you know, showing up late
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: to things like maturity, you know, that type of stuff,
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: and hopefully that that's behind him and now he can
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: just kind of play and be better for it.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: Yeah, of all those guys, I mean, there's there's bodies
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: there at the edge position, there's just what do you
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: feel great ab having Hutchinson from there?
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Is it Hutchins or hu Hutchins Hutchins.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Hutchins Q Hutchins when I you know, I talked
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: to Bill O'Brien about him, and he was more thought
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: that his path to the NFL would be special teams.
- 1:09:25Speaker 8: He's a really good special teams player, and then maybe
- 1:09:28Speaker 8: like a.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: Third down situational pass rusher if he does emerge on defense.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: But those two guys right there that we're showing right now,
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: ninety one and forty three, Ponder and Braden Swinson, if
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: you're looking for guys that can emerge and and really
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: push for playing time. You know, Ponder I think has
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: already done it. I think he's already here. But maybe
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Swinson can be a surprise of camp. You're kind of
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: like a breakout of camp. So I'll be interested to
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: see him, you know, when he gets his reps against
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: Moses and Campbell and Lomu and in some of the
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: frontline guys.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Well even then though, you you really don't know until
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: things are for real, you know, because sometimes guys, you know,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: get tipped off, they've seen the play before, they kind
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: of cheat a little bit. Yeah.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's got skill as a pass rusher. Yeah,
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: that was his thing coming out. And it's not so
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: much about like explosiveness. I would say it's more like,
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: uh skilled, you know, he has a deep yeah toolbox
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: of moves and he knows how to use his hands
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: and he knows how to set guys up and things
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: like that. So I didn't really see a ton of
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: that last year. I didn't feel like in camp because
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: I think that his head was kind of swimming in
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: it a little bit. But maybe this year he can
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: settle down.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: That was a question I was thinking about, maybe for Abel,
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: but I'd be curious what you guys think of he
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: So he talks about like yesterday brought up the tight
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: end room and while their guys are going to get
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: some opportunities, what does it look like taking advantage of opportunities.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: We know there's a sack or you know, like a
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: splash pay in a team consistency. But what is yeah, like,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: what does that look like in individual drills?
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: What does you know, taking advantage of opportunities look like
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: outside of oh, well, Kyle Wis he didn't have any catches.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Today, especially when you can't tackle, Like.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: What does that look like? To me?
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: It's consistency, not just to you know. What I think
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: of is like knowing where you're supposed to be, knowing
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: the play and performing to their eyes like down in,
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: play in and play out. Yeah, like because we you know,
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: we can look at a practice and see a flash,
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: like we can see Kyle Williams make a big catch
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: or Swinson get into the backfield on a rep. But
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: what's he doing on the other twenty reps that he
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: got in practice?
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: Right, Malcolm?
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Butler's a good example of that. I mean, you know,
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: to the naked eye, to the layman, you like, Okay,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: he's out out there, but he's not really picking off passes.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: But they saw the competitiveness. They saw like a guy
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: who was in on every play. Yeah, even if he
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: didn't make it, he was right there. He was inches
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: away from making the play. Okay, there's something to work
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: with there. Let's let's give this guy more opportunity, let's
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: see if he can take it to the next step. So,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: you know, guys like that, I think that's what it
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: means to show opportunity.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: Yeah, that's I mean, it's easy to see the guys
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: who make the plays, but you know there are guys
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: that good practices without making.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: I'm sure there's so many times where we think a
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: guy had a good practice because he made a few
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: a few flashes, and then they get into the meeting
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: room after practice and have like twenty corrections.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Supposed to be there.
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: You just got lucky. Yeah, right right.
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: That's another part of it too, with you know more
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: talk about it last year with Rabel and his meetings,
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: asking questions around the room and stuff, And that's.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Probably another thing where you're getting called on and you
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: consistently have the right answers, you know what to do, Yeah, earning.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: The trust of the veterans around you, knowing the names
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: of the people in the dining room.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: He said something, was it in Forge that he said
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: that nobody wants to play with somebody that doesn't know
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: what he's doing, right, yeah, yeah, And I think he
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: asked Kevin Byard, like, isn't that true? And Bard was like, yeah, Like,
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: if I can't trust the guy to my left and
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: the guy to my right is going to be in
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: the right place, I can't play with it.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I think Belichick might have said it or somebody on
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: his staff. It's better if we're all on the wrong
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: page than one guy being on the wrong page, you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: because at.
- 1:12:57Speaker 7: Least then there's an excuse of like they didn't get
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: the call.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Or something right, because one guy can blow it up
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: in football, don't get one to eleven. Yeah, there he
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: is number ten on his shoulder.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: We got a new bright red shirt.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he was wearing a really faded I think
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: he's wearing Garoppolos number ten.
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: We were talking about that during during the spring, like why.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Is his shirt so faded?
- 1:13:19Speaker 8: I think we made a big enough deal about it
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: and finally got in the new one.
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: Stacy got to the bottom of that, Mike. Mike and
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: I were talking on with Stacey about that. It's like,
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: what do you think the deal is with that?
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: It's like, I don't know.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: And the ramps here are open. I just saw Tommy
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: DeVito Jersey.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: This is a turnout here.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: We're overflowing into the ramps.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: With the with the foms.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Good, good day. Here.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: We're in period six.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: So so is Tommy defeat the Vito right now? The
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: number two?
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Yes? Yeah, Claire cut Yeah, I mean Martin basically.
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: Got no reps.
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: Claire cutlet, Claire cutlet exactly mother's cutlets. Yeah.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: He.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: I thought Morten was kind of an afterthought in the spring,
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: Like we barely really even saw him take any eleven
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: on eleven reps.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:14:05Speaker 8: It was all may And and Devido.
- 1:14:08Speaker 7: So that's only because he was so good in that
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: rookie mini camp. He didn't need the reps.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Exactly what I thought.
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: I was like, man, I was just trying to fit
- 1:14:16Speaker 7: in with the rest of the show.
- 1:14:17Speaker 8: Paul wasn't even at that rookie minnie camp.
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: Practice of full disclosure here, I was just preparing for
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: the season.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Good keep practicing in the rain with us here we are,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: God forbid we win some games this year. Paul's going
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: to be miserable.
- 1:14:33Speaker 7: Well, I just worry about if we happened to lose one,
- 1:14:36Speaker 7: what might happen to this panel.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Okay, that's not.
- 1:14:42Speaker 7: Not you.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: First day of camp. Try to be a little bit
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: more even killed first day camp.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: Well that's the thing, you know. Uh, last year first
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: game Week one didn't look too.
- 1:14:56Speaker 7: Good, you know, but who knows, kind of I felt like,
- 1:15:00Speaker 7: here we go, it doesn't look like that this year.
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: I don't know if I have anybody to the post
- 1:15:04Speaker 7: game shows.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Gino Smith's sixty the time, and then all of a
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: sudden it was like, oh right, we're good now, all
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: right good.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: So we talked a little bit, I know, in the
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: past about is it a good thing or a bad
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: thing or a nothing thing that you're playing Seattle in
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: week one. I think it's a good thing, assuming that
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Seattle is not going to have this huge regression and
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: they're going to be a good team again, you know,
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: getting a being able to go out there against the
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: super Bowl champs in week one just to kind of
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: see where you are.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, yeah, it's fine.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: I mean, I think in a perfect world that would
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: have liked to see them get a chance to develop
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: their identity a little bit before they face a tough
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: matchup like that. But it's easy to get excited for
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: that's the last game you saw, and this is going
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: to be the next game.
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: It's a great opportunity, it's a great opportunity, and I
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: kind of like that, but.
- 1:15:55Speaker 7: I mean it could go either way.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: I mean, you could you go out to Seattle and
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: I'm not even say you you win it, but like
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: you played really well and it's clearly how much closer
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: you were to Seattle this time.
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: You win the game.
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: Obviously, that's huge. It's a great opportunity. I think it's
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: an uplifting thing.
- 1:16:12Speaker 7: You get buried again, like yeah, Ben One, right right, Yeah.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: Well, I mean I think to some stet we got
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: buried by him seven months six months ago, so you know,
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: I think you can sweep on any We can't.
- 1:16:26Speaker 7: Mic they lost all the defensive players, Kenneth Walker.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: I just want to see, and I know this is
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: a me thing, but I felt like it kind of
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: got swept under rug a little bit how much they
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: got out coached.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: In that game.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: You keep bringing it up, though, because I feel like
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: it just no one talks about it. We just all
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: blame Will Campbell, Like you know, it's like.
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: Jared Wilson too.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's unbelievable. Like the rookie left tackle that got
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: his butt beat gets blamed. But the coaches that have
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: been in the league for twenty years they skate somehow.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: On Twitter, I saw one of my guys, one of
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: my analytics guys, talking about the decision that they kicked
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: the extra point after they scored their their only touchdown
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: of the game instead of going for two. I like
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: things like that, and I just I feel like this
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: is a big opportunity for those guys, Josh McDaniels, Mike
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: Rabel to put a much better game plan out there
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: this time around and get the team prepared much better
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: this time around, Like, you know, were where were some
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: of the answers to some of the things that Seattle
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: was doing. Where were some of the adjustments to some
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: of the things that Seattle was doing? And they just
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: it never came. It just kind of never happened. And
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: I hope this time around they have a better plan
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: because clearly the one they rolled out there in February
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: was not not working. So on both sides of the ball,
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: I would say, honestly, is there any chance that it's.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Not a more competitive games?
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: A chance of anything?
- 1:17:48Speaker 7: Yeah, But like what would say I used to say, yeah,
- 1:17:53Speaker 7: there's a chance, what would.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: You say the odds.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: That it's more more competitive, it's less competitive.
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: Or as total chance I mean, I look, I I
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: have certain like philosophies. I believe it's always going to
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: be a little sloppy and weird the first month of
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: the season. There's gonna be things you not expected that
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: maybe strange turnovers. So you know, maybe the game unfolds
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: weird for them. But you know, in some ways, I
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: just think you have nothing to lose. You got smoked
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: by this team in the Super Bowl. It's week one.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: Go out there, let it rip, come up with a
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: good plan. You know, hopefully the Seattle is get a
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: little bit enamored with raising their banner. But having been
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: to two games in Seattle, and I haven't been to
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: a lot of other NFL stadiums, but that place is
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: going to be a madhouse. So it's just you know,
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: and I look at it more regardless of the result, this.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: Team is going to start off and they really made
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: their They were the road Warriors last year. I mean,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: they set a record for road wins. I mean, this
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: team did such a great job on the road last year.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: What's it look like.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: I mean, if they went and laid an egg in Seattle,
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: I'll be like, that's a very big departure from this team.
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: Because they didn't lay a egg in any of road games,
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: true road games.
- 1:18:59Speaker 7: I know, the Super I wouldn't expect. I agree with Fred.
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: I think it should be a very small percentage that
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: it's not a competitive game.
- 1:19:07Speaker 7: Yeah, I'd be really really surprised if it was non competitive. Again.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: A couple of years ago, after the Chiefs won their
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: last Super Bowl, they played the Lions in the opener
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: and it wasn't a Super Bowl rematch, but they played
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: the Lions in the opener and the Lions beat them.
- 1:19:21Speaker 8: Yeah, and that was sort of the Dan.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: Campbell Lions like coming out party was like, no, this
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: Lions team is.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: This team's for real.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: And I feel like that's the opportunity that the Patriots
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: have where everybody's still talking about the schedule last year
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: and the breaks that they got last year and the
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: road and all that kind of stuff. If you come
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: out Week one and the opener and you ruined Seattle's
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: party on their banner night, then the rest of the
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: league is unnoticed. Like now all of a sudden, it's like, Okay, no,
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: that wasn't a fluke last year.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: I mean, I would really like to have seen them
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: have Julian Hill to go into this game.
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: I mean, Seattle's a team. I mean, Emmory's on pup,
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: so we'll see how healthy he is when you get
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: to week one. But Seattle's a defense that wants to.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: Stay in nickels. So if you're able to go ahead
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: with Gilliam now and if you have Julian Hill, you're not.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: But I do think the Patriots have a little bit
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: more ability to go heavy and maybe challenge Seattle to
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: stay in the nickel package that they want to and
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: play the way they want to and dictate terms and
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: do all the things that Mike McDonald's so good at.
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: So you know, that could be a potential twist schematically.
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: But again a J Brown, Romeo doffs, those guys are
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: gonna have to step up in that game.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and again it's just week one.
- 1:20:25Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Two years ago Week one was pretty festive in that
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: locker room, Yeah, and things kind of last.
- 1:20:32Speaker 7: Year week one was the opposite. That's right, You just
- 1:20:35Speaker 7: never know what, you know.
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: Week one games a lot of funny things happen. Yeah,
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: and I do I have a believer in the that champ,
- 1:20:44Speaker 6: that defending champ at home things.
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: It's a weird it's a weird spot.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: You've been there.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: It's a strange spot I have, and I've seen it.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: I've seen it even affect the Tom Brady Patriots once.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: So I just think that it's a lot of times
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: you're still kind of celebrating, you don't. You know, you
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: spend the whole summer's name last year's in the past,
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: and then you come out and you have this big ceremony,
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: your bann are raising and all the emotion of that.
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: How do you not think about last year the Seattle Seahawk.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: If I was in the reverse position and the Patriots
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: were getting ready to welcome a team they beaten the
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: Super Bowl pretty handily, I think I'd.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Be concerned a little bit that this team's gonna come
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: in here with something really to prove. You know, we
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: better be ready to go.
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: We can't get But you're concerned about all of those things.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Always we're concerned about things.
- 1:21:29Speaker 7: But you know, I mean that's you know, Bill.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I remember they we saw some footage I forget from
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: one thing. It was a Bill talking about, you.
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: Know, the parties coming back and we're gonna have patches
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: on our shirts and all that stuff. Don't get carried
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: away with what happened last year. And you know that
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: I think is a big hope. I also just say
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: Sam Darnold, I thought he kind of was outstanding in that,
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: you know, he made every throw he needed to make.
- 1:21:52Speaker 7: There were a couple early on the Super Bowl.
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: Yeah it was terrible, but just making the throws he
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: needed to make.
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: Like he didn't kill them.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: You know, he didn't make the stupid mistake he tried.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: You know, the Patriots couldnt come up, come up with
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: some of those picks. I think it's a much different game,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: especially early on when they were you know, kind of
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: picking on Marcus Jones.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: They have a new offensive coordinator, and I think that
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: that's not nothing, especially in a Week one game. And
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: maybe Quinn Kobiak was a good coach and you know,
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: now he's a coach of the Raiders and he's there.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: They're changing o seas, They're going to keep the same
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: system and everything, but it's a new play caller and
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: that might be the right time to play Seattle in
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: my mind.
- 1:22:31Speaker 8: Yeah, because like they I do think they have some changes.
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: You know, no more Kenneth Walker, No, their offensive coordinator changed.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: It might take that offense a couple of weeks to
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: figure out what this version of it is going to
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: look like. You know, Walker bouncing out the edge like
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: Zach Sharbonay and Jaden Prince is. That's not that that
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: might not be their game, you know, Like, I don't
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: know if they're going to have that same juice that
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker had to get the edge. So I think
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: if you're going to get Seattle, i'd much rather get
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: him in week one and get them when they're rolling.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Well, I could just say, when the Patriots win the game,
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: I promise I won't downplay the win.
- 1:23:06Speaker 8: Just so I don't know.
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: I don't about that, and I don't think anybody was
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: concerned about that in any way, shape or form. I
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: don't think you'll be down playing the preseason victory over
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: the Colts and joint practices.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: Do you think they'll win that one?
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: I think they'll probably have an edge. Well, according to
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: this show, I think I don't have to see the practice.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure there's going to be an edge dot
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: Com today, fred I. I.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: One of my favorite things about training camp is our
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: friend Bradley and our great video team comes up to
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: me after every practice and ask did we win? And
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: sometimes it's Patriots versus Patriots and he.
- 1:23:41Speaker 7: Asks me anyway.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: So my answer has always had a Drake may practice
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: and Drake may practice, well, then we won.
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: Well, listen, there are the extremes. And two years ago
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: we saw it when the Eagles came for a joint practice.
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: There was no doubt who won. That that's true, you know,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: So you can you can clearly win or lose a
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: joint practice and we've seen both.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: Miil Williams saw one from up close and he remembered it.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's gonna be a great, great few days
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: if you're able to come off for those that's yeah.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Those joint practices are as good as it gets.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: So we're gonna get ready to wrap up here here
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: at training camp. Just a reminder if you're in the area,
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: there's no better take. It's free, free parking. You're not
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: gonna be able to get closer to a pro sports
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: team than NFL training camp. So you go to Patriots
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: dot you go to Patriots dot com and you'll see
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: the schedule of all the open practices that the public
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: can come to check it out.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: They'll be out in the field tomorrow.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: We'll be back in the studio on Tuesday with our
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: regularly scheduled one o'clock Patriots Unfiltered. But on Thursday of
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: next week is the first day of PADS, so we'll
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: be live here again for the Thursday practice when they
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: go back to pads.
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: Gay Bacchus is a Patriot.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: That's kind of the news of the day.
- 1:24:58Speaker 7: Absolutely the best news, bestinas of the day.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: All right, for Paul Evan, Deuce myself, thank you for watching.
