- 0:06Speaker 2: That's a ringtone right there, Bubba.
- 0:08Speaker 1: That's a fire song.
- 0:09Speaker 2: By the way, it is a fire song.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I gotta tell you. Since I told our listeners about
- 0:14Speaker 1: it and you remind you about it, I've been singing
- 0:16Speaker 1: it NonStop. It's like, you know how you usually get
- 0:19Speaker 1: like a summer hooky song in your head. My summer
- 0:21Speaker 1: hooky song in my head is what you're trying to
- 0:23Speaker 1: get in.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I'm d w that's amazing because twenty years ago your
- 0:28Speaker 2: summer song was turn me inside out. So I can't
- 0:31Speaker 2: speak because you're every wear me when I when I
- 0:38Speaker 2: got Michelle.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Branch knows how many shout outs she gets on this podcast.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, she should know because she's not alone.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Oh oh, I think Michelle Branch must be aware that
- 0:52Speaker 1: how many times over the years I've spoken about her.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Do you think Michelle Branch gives two shits about us?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Do you think? Yes? I think Michelle Brand she likes
- 1:00Speaker 1: any people that are talking about a song she wrote
- 1:03Speaker 1: twenty years ago.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I hear that, man.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't know what happened to her.
- 1:07Speaker 2: She joined so she she I think she got married,
- 1:10Speaker 2: had kids, joined a band.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Doesn't mean she gave up her musical she did.
- 1:14Speaker 3: She was.
- 1:14Speaker 2: She's in a band right now. It's her and another
- 1:16Speaker 2: young lady and they do a they do music together.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But fuck would they do as long as they cover Ebby?
- 1:22Speaker 2: To me, they do very they do, uh that very good.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Casey put me onto them because you know how Casey
- 1:28Speaker 2: works in music sometimes. And she put me onto them
- 1:31Speaker 2: and was like, Yo, she's dope. She joined a band.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I rocked.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I rock out to her in my trouble. You know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: I've been thinking about putting my my my sort of
- 1:38Speaker 1: girl pop workout list on the on on on the
- 1:42Speaker 1: web so people.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Can do that ship.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, do that ship yeah, because iTunes needs that. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: people listen. I can never find a workout playlist that
- 1:50Speaker 1: suits my needs.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:52Speaker 1: A lot of people clearly agree with you on on
- 1:55Speaker 1: rap and hip hop because if you go on like
- 1:58Speaker 1: the standard playlist on iTunes or wherever, they're all like
- 2:02Speaker 1: ninety five percent that and and like hits one is
- 2:06Speaker 1: all like stuff I don't listen.
- 2:08Speaker 2: To, like Wu Tang do you don't listen to the
- 2:10Speaker 2: Wu Tang?
- 2:11Speaker 1: I don't listen to No, I don't listen to Wu Tang.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Do you know who? But you know who method man is.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah, of course he was in Garden State.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That's right, that's right. But you know he's in it.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You do know that he is in a band with
- 2:21Speaker 2: about twelve people. Can four other Wu Tang members.
- 2:26Speaker 1: There's Wu, There's Tang, there's clan.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna say some names and you're gonna be like, oh, yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I've heard of them, of course, A dirty bastard.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Of course I've heard of him. He was, he was,
- 2:40Speaker 1: he died right, Yes, he did the Rizza, Yeah, I've heard.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I can picture him, dude, the Rizza. We hung out
- 2:47Speaker 1: with him one night and you spell it rza. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: know that.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we hung out at Chateau. He came through and
- 2:52Speaker 2: kicked it with us that night. We would hang You're
- 2:54Speaker 2: not supposed to talk about Chateau on this actually, so
- 2:56Speaker 2: let me take that back. Well, you know what happens
- 2:58Speaker 2: at the chateau is supposed to stay at chateau.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Right now, you can't be dropping Choateau things. I hung
- 3:02Speaker 1: out with Drake at the Chatau.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Once you see, look at you spilling the beans.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Okay, get ahead, who else? Rizza ODV method Man, method Man,
- 3:12Speaker 1: ghost face Killer. Yeah, I've heard of him. I can't
- 3:14Speaker 1: picture his face, can you God?
- 3:16Speaker 2: You God?
- 3:17Speaker 1: I don't know you God. The jizzer, I don't know
- 3:20Speaker 1: the jizza.
- 3:21Speaker 2: That's the genius, uh inspector deck. There you go.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Wow, there's a big band. A lot of people in
- 3:27Speaker 1: this band.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's a huge band.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You really like their music a lot?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? I smoke on the mic, like
- 3:33Speaker 2: smoking Joe Frazier, the hell Raiser, raising hell with the flavor,
- 3:37Speaker 2: terrorizing jams, like troops in Pakistan, swinging through your town
- 3:41Speaker 2: like your neighborhood spy. The man so armed, TikTok keep ticking.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Come on now, you don't know nothing about the wu
- 3:47Speaker 2: tang okay yo e t h o d man e
- 3:53Speaker 2: t h o d man. Hey, you get off my cloud.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You don't know me and you don't know my now
- 4:00Speaker 2: you don't notice.
- 4:01Speaker 4: No.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I have a question though, when you when you have
- 4:03Speaker 1: a big like rap supergroup like that, are there they
- 4:06Speaker 1: all dirty?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Baby? I got your money, don't you bury?
- 4:12Speaker 1: I said, Hey, I know that song. Yeah, that's before
- 4:16Speaker 1: you go into another song. I have a question, do
- 4:18Speaker 1: they all take turns like I'm gonna rap now all right,
- 4:21Speaker 1: now you're up, you wrap now that kind of thing
- 4:23Speaker 1: like like like they take turns.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Well, some of them have like a connection. So remember
- 4:28Speaker 2: run DMC growing.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Up, Yes, right, yes, yes, yes, the Adidas.
- 4:32Speaker 2: My Adida's right, those two had a connection. So when
- 4:35Speaker 2: they rapped, they could, when they rhyme, they could bounce
- 4:38Speaker 2: off of each other. Some people it's like you and I,
- 4:40Speaker 2: how we have a good uh how we have good chemistry.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Same thing with rappers, right, and you look for when
- 4:46Speaker 2: you're a rapper, you look for that person that you
- 4:48Speaker 2: have chemistry. Drake and Future have really good chemistry together.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So they do a lot of records together. And so
- 4:54Speaker 2: it's the same thing you know, uh in in the
- 4:57Speaker 2: Wu Tang because it was so big, the wo was
- 5:00Speaker 2: so big, there are little tiny groups with inside.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Their sub groups within the Wu.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Right, So ghost Face and uh ghost Face and Ray
- 5:10Speaker 2: Kwana Chef. That's the one I forgot to mention. I
- 5:12Speaker 2: should have put Ray Kuana. He got the best. He
- 5:14Speaker 2: got probably the best bill for Cuban Linx is probably
- 5:17Speaker 2: the best Wu Tang record in my opinion. It's got
- 5:23Speaker 2: so many good songs on it anyway, ghost Face and
- 5:26Speaker 2: Ray Kwan do very well together and on record they
- 5:29Speaker 2: bounce off of each other very well. So they're are.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Now who's your favorite? If you had to pick one
- 5:35Speaker 1: member of the Wu Tang clan, that's like your favorite
- 5:38Speaker 1: rapper in the group.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The Jizz, the Genius, I like him a lot. I
- 5:44Speaker 2: liked o dB a lot. I like I like Meth
- 5:49Speaker 2: Method man, I like I like all of you. To
- 5:51Speaker 2: be honest, are they still Are they still? Like ghost
- 5:53Speaker 2: Face got somebody life.
- 5:56Speaker 1: When the world's normal? Do they still tour?
- 5:58Speaker 2: I hope? So it's a lot of egos, man, it's
- 6:01Speaker 2: a lot of them, man, how do you do that?
- 6:02Speaker 2: How do you That's like? Look, the Jackson five couldn't
- 6:05Speaker 2: stay together and they were brothers.
- 6:07Speaker 1: How do you do it? Mean, when we go on
- 6:09Speaker 1: the road, eventually touring this show, I feel like your
- 6:12Speaker 1: ego is gonna soar like an eagle out of control.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It depends on if they you're gonna want.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You're gonna have demands, you're gonna have in your rider.
- 6:22Speaker 1: There's gonna be all sorts of rules, no eye contact.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It all depends on how loud they applaud for me
- 6:27Speaker 2: if they applaud for you louder then they applaud for me,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I feel like I'll fall into a little you know,
- 6:33Speaker 2: I'll back into a Well, we're gonna have Dan when
- 6:36Speaker 2: going applaud for me more than they applaud for you.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You damn right, man, I want my bus to be bigger.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we're gonna measure up. We're gonna have the same bus.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Listen when Dan. We're gonna bring Dan and Joel and
- 6:46Speaker 1: Dan's gonna bring his thunderous applause button, so we'll be
- 6:50Speaker 1: able to augment whatever the crowd does. We'll be able
- 6:53Speaker 1: to augment the audience. You ever were looking at an
- 6:55Speaker 1: award show and you hear the applause on an award
- 6:57Speaker 1: show and then you look around and no one's clapping. Yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 1: like like like no one in an award show is
- 7:02Speaker 1: paying attention, so that they they'd be like a third
- 7:04Speaker 1: of them clapping, so they just augment all this thunderous applause. Well,
- 7:08Speaker 1: that's gonna be what Dan is doing for us when
- 7:10Speaker 1: we're on tour with the show.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So before we before we start the show, Dan will
- 7:15Speaker 2: be like, all right, so I need some thunderous applause
- 7:17Speaker 2: from you guys. Okay, everybody, and now I need some laughter,
- 7:20Speaker 2: need some laughter.
- 7:21Speaker 1: No, no, no, bro, he's just gonna bring it. It'll
- 7:25Speaker 1: be it'll be a it'll be a button.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Well, hell yeah, he's gonna be. He's gonna bring it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Dan always brings it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Dan's gonna bring it.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Dude, he's gonna bring it. Of course he brings it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: We're gonna applause.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I think we're probably gonna play arenas and and we're
- 7:41Speaker 1: gonna and we're gonna need to do sound checks at
- 7:44Speaker 1: these arenas.
- 7:45Speaker 2: If we play arenas, imagine that. Imagine we go to London. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and what's the big arena to the O two two
- 7:52Speaker 2: and we play the O two. That would be the
- 7:56Speaker 2: best day of my life. I'm gonna tell you something
- 7:57Speaker 2: right now, London, make it listen, make it happen. Let's
- 8:01Speaker 2: put it out there like that.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Listen. I'm sure, I'm sure we're gonna be playing like
- 8:06Speaker 1: four hundred seat theaters. But in reality, let's secret it
- 8:09Speaker 1: that we sell out the ODE two arena for fake
- 8:11Speaker 1: doctor's real friends.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That would be the best. That would be the best
- 8:14Speaker 2: night of my life.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Listen, you got to put ship out there. You got
- 8:18Speaker 1: to put outrageous ship out there and make it come true.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Remember I told you about the whiteboard. You'd get a
- 8:24Speaker 1: whiteboard and you write the most outrageous ship you want
- 8:28Speaker 1: to have happened in your life, and you look at
- 8:30Speaker 1: it every single day.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Who'd you say, did that?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Well? I have a lot of people in my life
- 8:35Speaker 1: and told me this. But the great the anecdote I
- 8:38Speaker 1: referenced on the show was I'm friends with John, the
- 8:41Speaker 1: Legends manager, and they her name is Ty and they
- 8:44Speaker 1: went to a high school together. And she said when
- 8:47Speaker 1: he first started, they got a big whiteboard and they
- 8:50Speaker 1: were putting them out. They were like, let's be outraged,
- 8:52Speaker 1: like I don't know, cover of Time magazine, like this,
- 8:54Speaker 1: many Grammys. They were like sitting there laughing about the
- 8:57Speaker 1: outrageous ship they were putting on this whiteboard. And she
- 9:00Speaker 1: to me and she said, every single thing on that
- 9:01Speaker 1: whiteboard happened. And she said, now I do whiteboards with
- 9:06Speaker 1: all my clients and and like you know, so anyway,
- 9:08Speaker 1: it's about manifesting, it's about making shit happen. I have
- 9:11Speaker 1: a whiteboard in my bedroom and I'll some some things
- 9:14Speaker 1: on there are like goals I have and some things
- 9:17Speaker 1: on there are like outrageous. I mean, obviously we're not
- 9:19Speaker 1: gonna sell it out arena, but I'm saying you can.
- 9:21Speaker 2: You can no put that shit on the board. It
- 9:23Speaker 2: could happen. It happened for John Legend. Man, the dude's
- 9:26Speaker 2: got egot. He got the egot. Let's make it happen.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Dude. Well, maybe we'd have to bring John Legend if
- 9:31Speaker 1: it was like if we opened for John Legend, let's
- 9:35Speaker 1: do it. Let's call Legend. Yeah, man, listen, the guy's
- 9:37Speaker 1: got an egot. Okay, So put your egot on your board.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I believe in it because you look at the board
- 9:42Speaker 1: every day and even in your subconscious brain, your mind
- 9:46Speaker 1: is going, I'm gonna find a way to work on
- 9:49Speaker 1: that today. I'm gonna make that call I'm afraid to make.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna. You know, for some people, it's fitness. They're like,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know what, I just looked at that whiteboard, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: I gotta get on the treadmill today.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I promise myself, I like this, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 10:01Speaker 2: put the white board in my in my bedroom, get
- 10:04Speaker 2: white share it with Casey. I'mna be like, baby, let's
- 10:06Speaker 2: put the most outrageous yes on this board.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm telling you listeners, this is the you know, Brene
- 10:11Speaker 1: Brown very popular. This is our Brene Brown moment. This
- 10:14Speaker 1: is our self help motivational moment on Fake Doctor's Real Friends.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You can make anything happen.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Okay, dude, I love this. I love this. I love you.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I love that we did this together, the four of
- 10:28Speaker 2: us and our and our listeners. Yeah, what do you
- 10:30Speaker 2: make that shit happen? Let's I have a sweatshirt on
- 10:33Speaker 2: today because my wife of those Bieber things. No, it's
- 10:36Speaker 2: Mickey Mouse, you.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Know, my my my forty something crisis is being managed
- 10:43Speaker 1: by just getting lots of tattoos.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Nice. Good for you, man.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I was always afraid to get tattoos because my father
- 10:47Speaker 1: hated them. And when my sister died, I got her
- 10:51Speaker 1: name in Hebrew on my on my arm, and my
- 10:54Speaker 1: father kind of like was okay with that because it
- 10:57Speaker 1: was you know, meaningful and it was Hebrew. And then
- 10:59Speaker 1: when he pasd way like, I realized that so much.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Even though I was in my forties, I still was
- 11:04Speaker 1: so nervous about what my father would think. And then
- 11:07Speaker 1: I was like, all right, it's time to fucking tattoo
- 11:08Speaker 1: the ship out of myself right on.
- 11:10Speaker 2: So you're gonna have a sleeve soon.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Well, I know about a sleeve, But where do you
- 11:13Speaker 1: want your face? When I get it, I was thinking
- 11:15Speaker 1: my left ariola?
- 11:16Speaker 2: I was thinking your face for sure?
- 11:18Speaker 1: What if I did you on my pictoralis major and
- 11:21Speaker 1: then listen and then your mouth was open, But then
- 11:24Speaker 1: in your mouth was my left ariola.
- 11:27Speaker 2: That's weird, that's weird. I prefer you just got my
- 11:31Speaker 2: face on your face, like you took my face and
- 11:34Speaker 2: tattooed it on your face.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Episode about this.
- 11:38Speaker 2: No, I didn't say on his whole face, like my
- 11:40Speaker 2: face on his cheeks.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Second, I don't know a second.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't joy his black face. If I Joe, can
- 11:51Speaker 1: you imagine all you.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Can think of him painting my face on his face?
- 11:57Speaker 3: I would face off text but like a tattoo for.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Right, No, it would be an outline.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Joelle, Joelle, it would be an outline. Joel's like now
- 12:05Speaker 1: managing all of our black face issues. She's like, guys,
- 12:08Speaker 1: sounding like that might be black Hey, guys, I got
- 12:12Speaker 1: to chime in here. That sounds like it might be
- 12:14Speaker 1: black face. Joelle would be an outline. It wouldn't be
- 12:16Speaker 1: like colored in, it would be it would be an
- 12:18Speaker 1: outline of Donald's face.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Well, I would just want it on your cheek or
- 12:21Speaker 2: on your forehead, you know.
- 12:23Speaker 1: By the way, the guy tattoos me told me that
- 12:26Speaker 1: we were talking about all these young kids that are
- 12:28Speaker 1: getting tattoos on their face and how ridiculous it is.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And he said that he's really surprised that any of
- 12:33Speaker 1: these artists are doing it because there's sort of this
- 12:35Speaker 1: unwritten code amongst tattoo artists that you would never put
- 12:38Speaker 1: a tattoo on a young person's face, right, and because
- 12:44Speaker 1: for obvious reasons, And he said, and now that there's
- 12:48Speaker 1: this fad of it happening, he thinks that they're all
- 12:51Speaker 1: just doing it for Instagram fame, because these kids are often,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, famous people, and they're doing it saying, fuck it,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna get my fifteen minutes of fame. But you know, obviously,
- 13:01Speaker 1: get these young people that are all tattooing the share
- 13:03Speaker 1: of their faces.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Dude, you might not be able to get the money later,
- 13:06Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Get the money now if
- 13:07Speaker 2: you can. That's that's the that's the yolo man. You
- 13:10Speaker 2: only live once.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You know, are you would tattoo a child's face?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Donald, I'm not, First of all, I am not a
- 13:17Speaker 2: tattoo artist, so I'll never have to put myself in
- 13:19Speaker 2: this situation. Well, you just.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Told these guys and tattoo someone's face.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I'm saying, the reasoning behind it is this, dude, do
- 13:27Speaker 2: you You don't listen? If scrubs didn't happen, you don't
- 13:31Speaker 2: know what you would have done to make them, to
- 13:32Speaker 2: make ends meet. If you're acting, if you're acting and
- 13:35Speaker 2: directing stuff, you know what I mean? You could have
- 13:37Speaker 2: gone into a business that you might not be proud of.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You might be. You might be my Instagram model right now,
- 13:45Speaker 2: and ang talking about you followers.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I love how these girls Instagram influence people. They took
- 13:51Speaker 1: like a little time off for COVID and the Black
- 13:55Speaker 1: Lives Matter movement, and now they're all back, fucking tushes
- 13:58Speaker 1: in the air, selling tea on some yacht and a visa.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Oh my god, yolo. Nobody says yolo anymore these days.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I don't know TikTok dancing.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I've been inside so long, I have no idea what
- 14:16Speaker 2: the kids are saying.
- 14:17Speaker 1: They're all on some old guy's yacht doing a TikTok dance.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But you know what, they must have put that shit
- 14:23Speaker 1: on the white board.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Imagine that was on the whiteboard. Imagine that's the white board.
- 14:30Speaker 2: What do you want to.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Be that's their fucking white board. I want to be
- 14:33Speaker 1: on a yacht having somebody pay for it, making that
- 14:38Speaker 1: Instagram money.
- 14:39Speaker 2: That's what's up. That's what hey there it is. Go
- 14:43Speaker 2: for yours, listen. That's what I say to everybody and
- 14:46Speaker 2: anybody out there who has dreams and they want fame.
- 14:50Speaker 2: As long as you don't disrespect nobody or hurt nobody,
- 14:53Speaker 2: go for yours. Man.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you can try and go for something
- 14:56Speaker 1: that contributes to society in some meaningful.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Way, sure you can find yourself later on. You got
- 15:01Speaker 2: everybody had something to say.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I miss you so much.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I miss you so much more. Dude, should we.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Get into the show? Tom Kavano's here, I'm so excited
- 15:08Speaker 1: about counting.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Six Stories.
- 15:13Speaker 6: I'm that show we made about a bunch of dogs
- 15:17Speaker 6: and nurses.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And I said, he's the stories netwll s so ganda
- 15:26Speaker 4: around you here yet round here?
- 15:32Speaker 1: And what a show? What a show we have today? Donald,
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's a really good episode and the hilarious Tom kavanaughs. Here.
- 15:41Speaker 1: We have so much to say. Let's just get in, Dan,
- 15:43Speaker 1: allow him into the room. Here he comes. I haven't
- 15:47Speaker 1: seen him in years. I haven't seen him in years.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Tom call.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Look at some applause, Dan thunder a clause.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Look at how handsome you. It's like, look at you
- 15:59Speaker 2: and look at him.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Like, look at in the mirror.
- 16:02Speaker 7: It's that's that's pandemic.
- 16:04Speaker 2: You've got the pandemic face going on.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Now.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You did get more handsome with age, Tom Cavanaugh, and
- 16:09Speaker 1: I can say that because people think we look alike.
- 16:12Speaker 7: This is true. I can say likewise, my friend, look
- 16:14Speaker 7: at you guys, My goodness, gracious, I'm so good, so
- 16:18Speaker 7: good to see your faces.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Holy see yours. Are you living in Canada or do
- 16:22Speaker 2: you live in the US?
- 16:23Speaker 7: Still well, I live in New York, but I film
- 16:26Speaker 7: a show in Canada, and when the pandemic hit, I
- 16:30Speaker 7: stuck it up north. Hi, Joel, I'm Tom. By the way,
- 16:35Speaker 7: I'm nice to meet you in person. I listened to
- 16:38Speaker 7: you guys, so I've sort of been familiar with that.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Do you know what I watch your show?
- 16:41Speaker 7: Right?
- 16:41Speaker 2: You know? I watch your show.
- 16:43Speaker 7: I don't know that, but I know you have like
- 16:45Speaker 7: twenty seven children, so I figure maybe in that demo some.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Well but not watching it for his kids. He's watching
- 16:50Speaker 1: it for him.
- 16:51Speaker 2: So for me, I love the flash. Dude, are you
- 16:54Speaker 2: kidding me?
- 16:55Speaker 7: That's trumendic?
- 16:56Speaker 2: You got a dynamite cast? Great?
- 16:58Speaker 1: How old is your target? Tom he watches all of
- 17:01Speaker 1: this stuff? C W is a bunch of teams?
- 17:06Speaker 2: How does how did listen? Man? Are you? Is this
- 17:09Speaker 2: the only?
- 17:10Speaker 7: Man?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Listen?
- 17:11Speaker 1: Man?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Is this the only Wells?
- 17:12Speaker 3: Now?
- 17:13Speaker 2: Are you the only? Is this? Is this the final Wells?
- 17:16Speaker 2: Because the multiverse, the crisis happened, and everything happened. You know,
- 17:21Speaker 2: there's only what like four earths five earths now in
- 17:23Speaker 2: the whole arrow verse, and now Supergirl lives on Earth
- 17:28Speaker 2: one with you guys, And I don't know. My point is.
- 17:32Speaker 2: My point is, let the man fucking speak, dude, No, no, no,
- 17:36Speaker 2: keep going.
- 17:36Speaker 1: He's getting worked up, Tommy, you're really excited.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But I really do love the show. I really do
- 17:41Speaker 2: love the show. Now you and Cisco Ramone together, I
- 17:44Speaker 2: love Wells and Cisco Ramon. I love the whole thing.
- 17:46Speaker 2: So look, my question is, are you the only Wells? Left.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Now that you've gone off and you've become pariah and
- 17:52Speaker 2: everything like that, is this the only Wells there is?
- 17:55Speaker 7: Here's what's ridiculous about doing the show, a superhero show.
- 18:00Speaker 7: I run into people like like you, and I just
- 18:03Speaker 7: am so inferior with my knowledge. I'm like, you know more,
- 18:07Speaker 7: you know more than me. And I'm not exaggerating. I'm
- 18:10Speaker 7: not trying to play Donald like. I understand by listening
- 18:12Speaker 7: to you that you have a better grasp of the
- 18:16Speaker 7: whole thing than I do. I feel like, as you
- 18:23Speaker 7: guys know, when you do a long running television show,
- 18:25Speaker 7: if there needs to be another Wells, there can be
- 18:28Speaker 7: another Wells.
- 18:29Speaker 2: That's what's up. I thought that. Yeah, absolutely, here's the thing.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Can you explain, Donald. First of all, catch your breath,
- 18:36Speaker 1: calm down. Okay, you're embarrassing us in front of our guests.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Listen. This is this is exactly what I did to
- 18:40Speaker 2: George lucas Man. This is exactly what I.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Can get too high. And by the way, when this
- 18:44Speaker 1: show's over, he's gonna take a nap because he's gonna
- 18:46Speaker 1: get woozy. He gets very amped up and then he
- 18:48Speaker 1: gets woozy.
- 18:49Speaker 2: This is what this is all the fans out there
- 18:52Speaker 2: who were wondering how I geek out when I when
- 18:55Speaker 2: I meet or talk to people that do something that
- 18:57Speaker 2: I'm like, holy shit about this? Is it right here?
- 19:00Speaker 2: I can't breathe right now. I sweating. I know I
- 19:02Speaker 2: have a sweatshirt on, but I'm sweating under here.
- 19:04Speaker 1: All right, But calm down now. For those of you
- 19:06Speaker 1: who don't know, Tom is on the Flash. And as
- 19:08Speaker 1: I understand it, with the CW Superhero shows, you bounce
- 19:11Speaker 1: around to the other shows in the same universe, right
- 19:14Speaker 1: and they all they're all under the Greg Burlany umbrella.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm guessing.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yes, the golden Boy of Hollywood that used to be
- 19:20Speaker 7: Bill Lawrence is now Greg Burlanty and has he has
- 19:23Speaker 7: four hundred shows on the air.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he's by the way, my very first job, Tom
- 19:27Speaker 1: Kevin well first lead in the movie was Broken Hearts Club,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Greg Burlanni's first movie. That's tremendous, and and now and
- 19:34Speaker 1: and and he we went to Northwestern together and he
- 19:38Speaker 1: now he's like, has the most shows on television of anybody.
- 19:41Speaker 7: You and I when we were talking about doing your podcast, Uh,
- 19:47Speaker 7: the text that came up right next to that text,
- 19:50Speaker 7: the last time we talked, can I can I read
- 19:53Speaker 7: a text that you as.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Long as it's not like you up, it's quite It's
- 20:00Speaker 1: like four in the morning and I'm hammered you up.
- 20:02Speaker 7: No, it's solid comedy. It's you say, tell Berlanty, I
- 20:08Speaker 7: want to do a cameos reverse Flash's brother. I say done.
- 20:13Speaker 7: You say, totally unbuild though a surprise. But I'll need
- 20:16Speaker 7: special powers. I say, make a list, power list, nothing
- 20:19Speaker 7: with heavy hammers. That shit is boring. You say, laser
- 20:22Speaker 7: eyes please. I say those are free.
- 20:26Speaker 1: That sounds great.
- 20:28Speaker 7: I feel like it's a miss.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Why did that never happen?
- 20:30Speaker 7: Now I know what I feel like now that would've
- 20:32Speaker 7: done this, and I know that Donald wants to be
- 20:34Speaker 7: on board. I feel like now it's just now. Now
- 20:36Speaker 7: you're forcing his hand because you're putting it out to
- 20:38Speaker 7: the public and I was going to have to hire you.
- 20:41Speaker 2: We were talking about white boards and putting manifesting your
- 20:44Speaker 2: destination onto white boards. This is on my white board.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm putting it out there right now.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I want to call Brilanny and I had to call
- 20:51Speaker 1: him about something else, but I want to call Brilanny
- 20:53Speaker 1: and say listen, Tom said I could be on the show.
- 20:56Speaker 7: Yeah, because I have that kind of yes.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I spoke to he said, like, hang on a second, Tom, Yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 1: he's got he's got so many he's got so many shows.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He's like Tom Tom Tom Tom he is, I know
- 21:11Speaker 1: who he is. And then he called, he calls to
- 21:13Speaker 1: a secretary. Do we still do Flash? Yeah? But by
- 21:22Speaker 1: the way, how funny would that be if Donald and
- 21:24Speaker 1: I came on? I mean, I don't, to be honest,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I don't. I don't get breathless about the superhero stuff
- 21:28Speaker 1: like Donald, but he really loves it. So sorry, I digress.
- 21:32Speaker 7: You should do it. I know the other thing you
- 21:33Speaker 7: should do, Donald, You should figure out knowing it as
- 21:36Speaker 7: you do. You should figure out what the what the
- 21:38Speaker 7: role is that you want Because.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I know what I want. There's what do you want?
- 21:42Speaker 2: I want?
- 21:42Speaker 7: Tone don't say mine.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I kind of like, listen, I'm gonna put it out there.
- 21:46Speaker 2: What do you want to You guys kind of opened
- 21:48Speaker 2: it up when Arrow ended, and I know, I'm not
- 21:52Speaker 2: sure if you guys are allowed to touch it. You
- 21:55Speaker 2: kind of touch on it in Stargirl. But I think
- 21:58Speaker 2: Green Lantern needs to be in this. You know what
- 22:01Speaker 2: I mean?
- 22:02Speaker 1: Joel is a Jewel is a big fan of this
- 22:05Speaker 1: world too.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And there's so many There are so many that are
- 22:09Speaker 2: in the Lantern core and I know that you know.
- 22:12Speaker 2: And also size doesn't matter when you're a Lantern. You
- 22:15Speaker 2: could be tiny, you could be why, you could be right,
- 22:19Speaker 2: come on, man. Anyway, My point is I think that's
- 22:22Speaker 2: one character that would be a lot of fun to play.
- 22:25Speaker 2: You know, there's so many people in the DC universe,
- 22:29Speaker 2: but if I had a choice and they were willing
- 22:32Speaker 2: to do it, I would love to be Green Lantern.
- 22:36Speaker 7: All right, And John, I think that's really special. And
- 22:39Speaker 7: dear to Greg, so, I think that's great you're making
- 22:42Speaker 7: this happen.
- 22:42Speaker 1: New Slash and the Green Can the Green Lantern be
- 22:46Speaker 1: forty six?
- 22:48Speaker 7: He can be anything, he could be any Look, I'm
- 22:51Speaker 7: playing the reverse Slash. I'm a yellow. I'm wear a
- 22:53Speaker 7: yellow super suit.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And sorry Tom for those of us who don't know,
- 22:59Speaker 1: and I'm sure some of our listeners don't know, can
- 23:01Speaker 1: you just explain in in non superhero terms, what reverse
- 23:05Speaker 1: Flash means? Is there a young guys flash?
- 23:09Speaker 7: Yes, there's a good looking It's kind of like when
- 23:12Speaker 7: we did Scrub, Like a good looking handsome guy is
- 23:14Speaker 7: the lead and then they cast this guy as his
- 23:16Speaker 7: brother Bill Lawrence have lost a bet somewhere, So basically
- 23:21Speaker 7: a young guy Tom.
- 23:22Speaker 1: When you insult your looks, you insult my looks. So
- 23:26Speaker 1: you're a handsome you look like to me when you
- 23:29Speaker 1: when you when you came on, I thought we got
- 23:31Speaker 1: I thought we got Tom Kavanaugh. Why is Brad Pitt
- 23:34Speaker 1: on the podcast?
- 23:36Speaker 7: That's what that's what you thought?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Okay, sorry? What is the Reverse Flash? For those of us?
- 23:41Speaker 7: So he's the he's the Joker to the Batman, the
- 23:43Speaker 7: Lex Luthor to the he's the bad guys that we have.
- 23:47Speaker 7: A young fellow, Grant Gustin plays the Flash and the
- 23:50Speaker 7: arch Enemy is the Reverse Flash. He wears a red suit,
- 23:53Speaker 7: and I play the arch Enemy the Reverse Flash e
- 23:55Speaker 7: art on. I wear a yellow suit. And that's kind
- 23:56Speaker 7: of it.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Are you doing lots of stunts and fighting? Yeah?
- 23:59Speaker 7: Yeah, can you imagine it's crazy? You know that bucket
- 24:02Speaker 7: list that you have as an as an actor, and
- 24:05Speaker 7: you want to do this theater, You want to do
- 24:07Speaker 7: this show. You want to do something like shows, you
- 24:09Speaker 7: want to the whiteboard.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Yeah, we started, we started the show time before we
- 24:13Speaker 1: came on talking about just manifesting things by putting on
- 24:15Speaker 1: a whiteboard and staring at it.
- 24:16Speaker 7: In me, it was weird to be in your green
- 24:19Speaker 7: room and not have the speakers going. I'm like, I
- 24:21Speaker 7: wonder what they're talking about.
- 24:23Speaker 1: We were talking about you, we were talking about manifesting,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and then you.
- 24:26Speaker 7: Well, that's exactly. That's a great that's such a great call.
- 24:29Speaker 7: This is one of those things I never would have
- 24:30Speaker 7: expected to do a superhero show, and it's a you know,
- 24:33Speaker 7: in terms of a bucket list, it's it's so fun.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys look like you have a lot of
- 24:38Speaker 2: fun on it, and it has.
- 24:39Speaker 1: No end in sight. On your show, it has no
- 24:41Speaker 1: end in sight. I mean, I just feel like they
- 24:43Speaker 1: the Greg Brilin keeps adding more and more to this,
- 24:46Speaker 1: to this world, right, I don't know if they're all
- 24:49Speaker 1: they all must be successful because they all keep going.
- 24:51Speaker 7: I honestly, I honestly don't know. I never would have thought.
- 24:55Speaker 7: I think when they started a number of years ago,
- 24:57Speaker 7: they had uh and they've done super you know, it
- 25:00Speaker 7: was the Superman Show, small though, and then they did
- 25:05Speaker 7: Arrow and Arrow I think did well. And then but
- 25:07Speaker 7: when we started Flash, you guys, you guys all know
- 25:10Speaker 7: how it is. We started flashing. I said to my wife, well,
- 25:13Speaker 7: this will be canceled in seven so I'll go up
- 25:16Speaker 7: to Vancouver from New York and we'll shoot and then
- 25:18Speaker 7: it'll get canceled. Because even at that time I had
- 25:20Speaker 7: done two shows for Greg and both of them had,
- 25:23Speaker 7: you know, been canceled relatively quickly, because that's just how
- 25:26Speaker 7: it goes. And so I didn't foresee it, you know,
- 25:30Speaker 7: I just I never expected to go, and this thing
- 25:32Speaker 7: seemed to go. And even when you say there's no
- 25:34Speaker 7: end in sight, I still expect that you'll just get
- 25:37Speaker 7: the call aay, so yeah, we're done.
- 25:40Speaker 2: You just never know.
- 25:40Speaker 1: For those for those of you not in the entertainmentdustry,
- 25:43Speaker 1: we just we just never know.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You get you get a show like Scrubs and you're like, oh, okay,
- 25:47Speaker 1: this could go six episodes and then it goes nine
- 25:49Speaker 1: years or you know, or or you know, Donald's did
- 25:53Speaker 1: this show and it when a season, and I did
- 25:55Speaker 1: a show when a season. You just you just have
- 25:57Speaker 1: every single time, it's a roll of the dice, no
- 25:59Speaker 1: matter you no matter how many good ingredients there are,
- 26:02Speaker 1: you just never know.
- 26:03Speaker 7: Yeh. Yeah, And most of the time the numbers are,
- 26:06Speaker 7: it's gonna get canceled.
- 26:07Speaker 1: It's not going to go right, especially now more than ever,
- 26:10Speaker 1: because you know, it's there's so much content. How the
- 26:13Speaker 1: hell does the something fine eyeballs? You know, and you're
- 26:17Speaker 1: on the classic old school true network.
- 26:20Speaker 2: You know, you guys do twenty four episodes a season.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Do you know what it's like to be able to
- 26:27Speaker 2: do something? Most I remember? I remember I did a
- 26:31Speaker 2: show called The Exes right after Scrubs, right of course, Yeah,
- 26:36Speaker 2: we did ten episodes a season. That was it for
- 26:39Speaker 2: an actor. It's like, wait, well, hold on, let's I
- 26:44Speaker 2: want to be I want to work all year round
- 26:45Speaker 2: if I possibly can. It was really weird to work
- 26:48Speaker 2: ten episodes and then have all of this time off
- 26:52Speaker 2: until you came back and did another ten. Or you
- 26:54Speaker 2: would do or we would do thirty and they would
- 26:57Speaker 2: just chop it up into episodes. It was like you
- 27:00Speaker 2: never really find you never really find a pace or
- 27:03Speaker 2: a footing. It's like, well, how long are we going?
- 27:05Speaker 2: We're only going to do ten twenty two? You guys
- 27:07Speaker 2: seem to you know you live in Canada right now?
- 27:10Speaker 7: Yes? Yeah? Is it Vancouver, Vancouver, Canada? Coniferous jewel of
- 27:16Speaker 7: the city. Have you guys been I have.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I love that town too.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I think it's a beautiful city. I love it there.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I was there when the sun was out and it
- 27:23Speaker 1: was magnificent. Yes, And then I was told that it's
- 27:27Speaker 1: not always like that, and I don't know if I
- 27:28Speaker 1: would if I would like it rainy.
- 27:31Speaker 7: It's yeah, it's a it's a question of taste, like
- 27:33Speaker 7: when the sun shines as no finer place. I don't
- 27:35Speaker 7: mind the rain, but I think if you were somebody
- 27:37Speaker 7: that didn't like rain and preferred like seasons in snow,
- 27:41Speaker 7: then this city would not be for you. But it
- 27:43Speaker 7: really is. It really is a coniferous jewel of a city.
- 27:45Speaker 1: And are you mostly on stages and such or do
- 27:48Speaker 1: you go out and shoot on locations and stuff.
- 27:50Speaker 7: It's it's almost fallows a pretty regular schedule where we
- 27:55Speaker 7: do a lot of stage work early in the week
- 27:56Speaker 7: and then we do all this the stunt stuff. You know,
- 27:59Speaker 7: it's always you know, so Thursday, Friday nights, we're gonna
- 28:01Speaker 7: be we're gonna start at you know, five pm, or
- 28:03Speaker 7: we're gonna go all night and we're gonna like, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 7: have the guy run up a building and fight a
- 28:07Speaker 7: monster and then like we're gonna come back and win,
- 28:09Speaker 7: you know.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So you kind of you kind of you kind of
- 28:11Speaker 2: have to stay in shape for this thing, like you're
- 28:13Speaker 2: you're asked to do way more than you expected to
- 28:16Speaker 2: do when you started. Huh.
- 28:17Speaker 7: Hey, it's a blessing and a curse, you know, because
- 28:20Speaker 7: the other thing is too is as you guys know too,
- 28:22Speaker 7: Like I mean, I'm older than you guys, but there's
- 28:25Speaker 7: a there's a thing where you when you were a
- 28:28Speaker 7: young actor, you could be vain, but you wouldn't really
- 28:32Speaker 7: matter because you're probably gonna look fine, you know. And
- 28:34Speaker 7: then you get a little bit older, and then your coach,
- 28:37Speaker 7: the people you're acting with, your co actors are twenty
- 28:40Speaker 7: eight twenty nine, you know, and they are fantastic, and
- 28:43Speaker 7: then there's you, you know, and he's he looks great
- 28:46Speaker 7: in the suit. And then you can't really be on
- 28:48Speaker 7: the donut diet while you're on the suit, so you
- 28:51Speaker 7: kind of have to keep keeping in shape, you know.
- 28:55Speaker 7: And so it's do.
- 28:55Speaker 2: You hang out with Jesse l Martin a lot?
- 28:57Speaker 7: Jesse is a legend, as you guys know, coming from her.
- 29:00Speaker 7: He's just he's amazing He's got this thing, sus because
- 29:04Speaker 7: he's the captain. You know, he can he work, you
- 29:07Speaker 7: wear a hat and an overcoat. He doesn't have to
- 29:09Speaker 7: worry too much about you know. He's just like he's
- 29:11Speaker 7: kind of like he runs. He basically is the beating heart,
- 29:14Speaker 7: you know, runs the show, the center of you know, reason,
- 29:18Speaker 7: and uh, you know he's he's got a great job
- 29:22Speaker 7: and appreciates it.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So Tom when ed when the show ed, I want
- 29:26Speaker 1: to talk about that. When it came out, I was
- 29:28Speaker 1: an unemployed actor and my mom called me very very
- 29:33Speaker 1: concerned that I that I that I had gotten a
- 29:35Speaker 1: lead in the TV show and not told her because
- 29:38Speaker 1: she didn't understand why why I was on billboards all
- 29:42Speaker 1: over the country.
- 29:44Speaker 7: And is that true?
- 29:45Speaker 1: That's how it is? I mean, no, it is, I
- 29:48Speaker 1: mean she she she obviously sused that it was not me,
- 29:51Speaker 1: but she was like, there is a young man who's
- 29:55Speaker 1: on every billboard in town and he looks a lot
- 29:58Speaker 1: like you. And I remember thinking, oh, yeah, mom, that's
- 30:02Speaker 1: that's not me. Uh yeah, I'm still still trying to
- 30:05Speaker 1: get some auditions going and uh and it was really
- 30:10Speaker 1: humbling because I was like that fucking guy who looks
- 30:13Speaker 1: exactly like me as a as a hit show leading
- 30:16Speaker 1: role on NBC. Now, no one's ever gonna hire me.
- 30:19Speaker 1: By the way, Dak Shepherd, who also looks like us,
- 30:22Speaker 1: told me this. He was like when I was, when
- 30:24Speaker 1: I was, you know, became famous and was all over
- 30:27Speaker 1: the place. He was like, well, how is this gonna
- 30:29Speaker 1: fuck my career? Because I look like that guy, and
- 30:32Speaker 1: that guy's already working and so anyway, I wanted to
- 30:36Speaker 1: talk to you about Ed and tell us I imagine
- 30:38Speaker 1: that was your big break, right, I mean, I know
- 30:40Speaker 1: you worked a bunch, but that was your first your
- 30:42Speaker 1: own show, right for sure?
- 30:44Speaker 7: I mean, first off, Dak's and you have done quite
- 30:48Speaker 7: well for yourselves.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I worked out guys, so's Ray Romano.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Yes, it worked out, It did work out.
- 30:55Speaker 7: But yeah, I had done I'm Canadian and I had
- 31:00Speaker 7: I moved to New York City and I think eighty
- 31:03Speaker 7: nine to do Broadway. I did like a decade of
- 31:06Speaker 7: theater and I absolutely loved it, absolutely, one hundred percent
- 31:11Speaker 7: loved that. And then I had done a small guest
- 31:14Speaker 7: spots for literally for ten years on ABCNBC. Back then
- 31:17Speaker 7: it was like just the four, right, and I'd done
- 31:20Speaker 7: a show called Providence and then But I had no
- 31:25Speaker 7: idea of the profile that you guys enjoyed on Scrubs
- 31:30Speaker 7: because the shows, a lot of the shows that I
- 31:31Speaker 7: had done, when they were television shows or series, I'd
- 31:33Speaker 7: done a couple of series in Canada, they were Canadian shows,
- 31:37Speaker 7: and there's no cross border pollination between the two countries.
- 31:40Speaker 7: In other words, you'll shoot a show in Canada and
- 31:43Speaker 7: you'll do ten episodes, but everybody in Canada is watching Friends, you.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Know, So who's watching these Canadian shows?
- 31:52Speaker 7: Well, it's it's different. In Canada. There's a federal mandate
- 31:56Speaker 7: for these television shows, so they do them, and some
- 32:00Speaker 7: of them are quite quite good. And there's not a
- 32:04Speaker 7: there's not a mill the way there is behind the
- 32:09Speaker 7: entertainment industry and the States. Up in Canada, it doesn't,
- 32:12Speaker 7: you know. Part of the ethos of the country is like, well,
- 32:14Speaker 7: let's not get too big for ourselves then, you know,
- 32:17Speaker 7: and so and in the States it's very much the opposite,
- 32:20Speaker 7: like let's see how we can build up and how
- 32:22Speaker 7: big we can get. And why that why that ethos
- 32:27Speaker 7: is good is that you know you you if you're
- 32:30Speaker 7: working as an actor, you're working largely because you love
- 32:33Speaker 7: it because a lot of the attention, at least back then.
- 32:37Speaker 7: Now it's different because everything can be found. But back then,
- 32:40Speaker 7: you know, you were you were doing the same stuff
- 32:42Speaker 7: we would do on Scrubs that you'd come to set
- 32:44Speaker 7: and there's all the you know, the crew, and there's
- 32:46Speaker 7: the people and it's and it's great and you love it,
- 32:48Speaker 7: and then you leave set and it's still the exact
- 32:51Speaker 7: same experience. It's just that you're not going to radio
- 32:55Speaker 7: City Music Hall and doing the upfronts, you know what
- 32:57Speaker 7: I mean. And so but it's nice in this way
- 33:00Speaker 7: because you understand that, oh, this is this is what
- 33:03Speaker 7: I love to do. And by the time I got ed,
- 33:05Speaker 7: like you know, fifteen years later, it was I was
- 33:09Speaker 7: aware enough that it was it's still the same experience.
- 33:12Speaker 7: And so even though suddenly, like you say, there was
- 33:15Speaker 7: like billboards plastered all over the place, I was readily
- 33:19Speaker 7: aware that you know that that was all that that
- 33:23Speaker 7: can get ripped away and it's semi superficial, and so
- 33:26Speaker 7: I think that was a nice little I don't know
- 33:28Speaker 7: what it would be like to have your face plastered
- 33:31Speaker 7: all over the place when you're in your mid twenties.
- 33:34Speaker 7: I think it would be a I think it would
- 33:35Speaker 7: be a tough fight.
- 33:36Speaker 1: We didn't on We didn't get a big billboard buy right,
- 33:39Speaker 1: Why the NBC didn't go They certainly went all in.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Whoever made the billboard decision for ED went all in.
- 33:45Speaker 1: And by the time Scrubs came on, they were like, dude,
- 33:48Speaker 1: remember a few years ago we shot our billboard budget
- 33:50Speaker 1: on ED. We have no billboard Scrubs.
- 33:53Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm so sorry about that, because why that's why
- 33:56Speaker 7: you guys didn't get that big bill But what was
- 33:59Speaker 7: funny is like I remember when the when Scrubs started,
- 34:02Speaker 7: how just how much of a splash it made. I'm
- 34:04Speaker 7: sure you can remember, and it's not lost on you,
- 34:07Speaker 7: how like big a deal that that was. Like that
- 34:11Speaker 7: show was so important, it seemed at the time.
- 34:14Speaker 1: It was bizarre for us because also, you know, we
- 34:16Speaker 1: compare it to now, you know, the amount of people
- 34:20Speaker 1: watching a single TV show just doesn't happen anymore, especially live,
- 34:25Speaker 1: we really even at all, but let alone live when
- 34:28Speaker 1: it's airing. So it was a completely different eras that
- 34:31Speaker 1: would watch at.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Our worst, at our worst TV shows. Now if they
- 34:35Speaker 2: got our worst numbers, right, Yes, they would be considered
- 34:39Speaker 2: hit shows.
- 34:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean yeah, no.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Wie, Tom, was was ed written for you? Or did
- 34:45Speaker 1: you audition?
- 34:46Speaker 7: No? No, no, no, they didn't No, No, that was again,
- 34:49Speaker 7: that was NBC. They didn't want me at all, Like
- 34:52Speaker 7: we had to. They went through, I think a year
- 34:54Speaker 7: of casting known people and you know, better humans, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 7: and then.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Well, you know what, just just so people that weren't
- 35:03Speaker 1: in the entertainment industry know, they'll often try and get
- 35:06Speaker 1: a known star that's right and if and that doesn't
- 35:10Speaker 1: always work out for the reasons, and then they go, okay,
- 35:12Speaker 1: well let's start to read people that aren't famous yet,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and which is when this is how people like the
- 35:17Speaker 1: two of you. Well, yeah, I mean exactly exactly. It's
- 35:21Speaker 1: exactly how both Tom and I got our parts exactly.
- 35:24Speaker 7: I was like the third I think, the third round
- 35:26Speaker 7: or so of doing it. The only reason I had
- 35:28Speaker 7: that job. I remember how generous you were at Bill's
- 35:33Speaker 7: fortieth and we had the party and he was you know,
- 35:38Speaker 7: you were like, you were just so gracious about because
- 35:41Speaker 7: you're clearly incredibly talented, and yet you had to wherewithal
- 35:45Speaker 7: to say I owe so much to this guy, and
- 35:48Speaker 7: I had the same story. There's a Robernette and John
- 35:52Speaker 7: Beckerman who ran the late show with let him and
- 35:54Speaker 7: were those are the guys that the only reason I
- 35:56Speaker 7: got the job is those guys said this is the guy,
- 35:59Speaker 7: and you know, they managed to have enough stock that
- 36:03Speaker 7: people would listen to them. And without without somebody standing
- 36:06Speaker 7: up for you, sometimes you just it just doesn't you know,
- 36:09Speaker 7: it doesn't go your way, like those people are the
- 36:11Speaker 7: only reason I got that job.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Do you know how many odd times you auditioned?
- 36:17Speaker 7: I know I auditioned once in Los Angeles, and you
- 36:23Speaker 7: know how it is when you're like, oh, that that
- 36:24Speaker 7: went well, you feel good about it. But I was
- 36:26Speaker 7: also like, okay, it was pilot season and it was
- 36:28Speaker 7: like one read during the day, but it felt good.
- 36:30Speaker 7: And then then they called me to have the the
- 36:35Speaker 7: sessions that they do. They have a studio session and
- 36:37Speaker 7: a network session, and it was very It was like
- 36:40Speaker 7: and this is I hope this isn't boring. I don't
- 36:43Speaker 7: mean to talk about but they we went and we
- 36:47Speaker 7: had to do it. It was at CBS at the time,
- 36:49Speaker 7: by the way, I don't know if you guys know
- 36:50Speaker 7: that show that was CBS, not NBC, and CBS ultimately
- 36:55Speaker 7: didn't think so they got picked up at CBS, and
- 36:58Speaker 7: then CBS ever aired the show, and then a year
- 37:01Speaker 7: later NBC picked it up, Which is weird.
- 37:03Speaker 1: That never happens.
- 37:05Speaker 7: It never happened.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Every time you make a pilot, it's always such a
- 37:07Speaker 1: bizarre thing, both when I've been in them or when
- 37:09Speaker 1: I've directed them. You put so they put so much
- 37:12Speaker 1: money in, they put so much work in, and then
- 37:14Speaker 1: a network chooses what they choose, and then the discards
- 37:18Speaker 1: are like they have like the smell of shit on them.
- 37:20Speaker 1: No one will touch them, and it's like, it's like,
- 37:22Speaker 1: what someone just spent six million dollars making this pilot.
- 37:26Speaker 1: You could look at it and maybe recas, maybe you
- 37:29Speaker 1: could recast some things exactly, you could reshoot half of
- 37:32Speaker 1: it whatever, Well, why are you throwing it all away?
- 37:34Speaker 1: It's so it's always a bizarre waste of money to me,
- 37:37Speaker 1: because there's there's diamonds in the rough that no one
- 37:40Speaker 1: is So this situation is very rare that then another
- 37:43Speaker 1: network wade Man will take it.
- 37:45Speaker 7: I don't know that it ever happened before with CBS.
- 37:48Speaker 7: I think from what I heard. The only reason that
- 37:50Speaker 7: that happened was again because Robert nette And ran the
- 37:56Speaker 7: Letterman Show. It was because Letterman had such a big
- 38:01Speaker 7: he was such a big paycheck, he was such a
- 38:02Speaker 7: big entity at the time. That was the only reason
- 38:05Speaker 7: I think that that that card. If a producer didn't
- 38:08Speaker 7: have that card to say, that would probably have never
- 38:12Speaker 7: never happened. But when I went into to read, you know, ostensively,
- 38:16Speaker 7: the thing was a comedy with heart, and so you know,
- 38:20Speaker 7: you know, you know how these it's so funny, how
- 38:21Speaker 7: these things change. So I went in to read. I
- 38:25Speaker 7: was solid and funny in the room and made them laugh.
- 38:27Speaker 7: And then normally, okay, the job is yours, this is
- 38:30Speaker 7: at the network read. But then somebody there's you know,
- 38:33Speaker 7: twenty five people in the room, and somebody starts going
- 38:35Speaker 7: about but what about this this I don't like this
- 38:37Speaker 7: about him? And then that sort of you know, you
- 38:39Speaker 7: see that the next thing you know, you had it
- 38:42Speaker 7: and then you don't have it right. And I remember
- 38:44Speaker 7: Rob and John came out and Rob was he had
- 38:47Speaker 7: this real serious face and he's like, look, so they
- 38:50Speaker 7: don't know if you can they don't know if you
- 38:52Speaker 7: can do straight drama. So even though it was a
- 38:57Speaker 7: comedic scene, about a guy finding out that his wife
- 38:59Speaker 7: is sleeping with a mailman. And they're like, you just
- 39:03Speaker 7: need to do that scene again and throw out all
- 39:05Speaker 7: the comedy and play it like, you know, play it
- 39:07Speaker 7: like a Shakespeare tragedy. I was like, okay, oh my god.
- 39:11Speaker 7: And I went in and did that and you know,
- 39:15Speaker 7: just completely straight as possible, and they were like, okay,
- 39:18Speaker 7: can you can do that too.
- 39:19Speaker 2: It's so amazing, the exact same speech I got pretty
- 39:22Speaker 2: much really fucked up. Yeah, pretty much what I.
- 39:24Speaker 1: They weren't saying you fucked up, Donald legit fucked up.
- 39:26Speaker 1: He didn't say he fucked up.
- 39:27Speaker 2: No, I didn't. When I wore audition for Scrubs, I
- 39:30Speaker 2: got real big in the audition because it was a
- 39:32Speaker 2: comedic scene, and I got real big and animated, and
- 39:35Speaker 2: Bill had to come out and be like, dude, tone
- 39:38Speaker 2: that ship down.
- 39:41Speaker 7: Yeah, because it's funny. As you know, like I think,
- 39:44Speaker 7: sometimes an executive here's another executive speaking, goes, I better
- 39:48Speaker 7: weigh in as well, you know. So suddenly they're like
- 39:50Speaker 7: he's big, Yeah, he's too bid, Yeah, he's too bid.
- 39:52Speaker 7: Suddenly it becomes his thing and you're like.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Oh, no, if actors only if actors who have yet
- 39:56Speaker 1: to be in one of these rooms only knew, Oh
- 39:58Speaker 1: my gosh, the tight you're walking to try and get
- 40:01Speaker 1: a fucking roll. Yeah, oh dude, and how it just
- 40:04Speaker 1: it just falls on one person being like, I don't
- 40:07Speaker 1: know what if, and then all of a sudden you
- 40:10Speaker 1: didn't have the part anymore, and you had the part
- 40:12Speaker 1: for a second.
- 40:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Right. I've been in a room and watch somebody destroy it,
- 40:17Speaker 2: like kill it, come in and destroy it, and then
- 40:20Speaker 2: someone else come in and do a really good job
- 40:23Speaker 2: but not destroy it. And I saw, well the first
- 40:27Speaker 2: person obviously, and one person in the room was like, well,
- 40:30Speaker 2: you know what, I'm not sure they actually look like
- 40:34Speaker 2: the part. You know what, You're right, they don't necessarily
- 40:37Speaker 2: look like the part. And all of this doubt happened,
- 40:39Speaker 2: and the person that crushed it did not get the role,
- 40:43Speaker 2: and the person that just did good got the role.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Because there was.
- 40:46Speaker 7: Getting tense just listening to this.
- 40:48Speaker 1: It's crazy, dude. I was on working on something and
- 40:51Speaker 1: this girl came in and she was young, you know,
- 40:54Speaker 1: she was like a young Jennifer Gardner type. She was
- 40:56Speaker 1: really pretty. She was early twenties and super exc expressive
- 41:00Speaker 1: and funny, and I thought that she should get the part.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Another girl came in very very funny. Well, you could
- 41:06Speaker 1: have done it too, but I preferred the first girl.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I thought she was better. One of the executives goes
- 41:11Speaker 1: regarding the first girl the young Jennifer Garner type, but
- 41:13Speaker 1: she goes, she's very expressive. Should we worry about her
- 41:20Speaker 1: wrinkling early? Oh wow, Now, mind you, this is like
- 41:26Speaker 1: a twenty early twenty something year old girl and she's
- 41:31Speaker 1: very pretty. And the not only is that the most
- 41:35Speaker 1: ludicrous thing you can ever imagine another human being saying,
- 41:37Speaker 1: but in your mind the show is going to go
- 41:39Speaker 1: so many years that her wrinkles that come from her
- 41:44Speaker 1: being expressive were going to be a problem. I mean,
- 41:46Speaker 1: it was the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard of
- 41:47Speaker 1: them a whole lot.
- 41:48Speaker 7: It's appalling. It's appalling. The other part of it is
- 41:52Speaker 7: actors can act, you know, and so so I don't
- 41:55Speaker 7: how many times so like you've done a thing and
- 41:56Speaker 7: then like yeah, the feedback is, yeah, we wanted it
- 41:59Speaker 7: a little bigger.
- 41:59Speaker 2: It's like say that ship, you know, say that ship.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Why don't you let me do the whole audit? Listen? Man,
- 42:06Speaker 2: why did you let me do the whole audition that big.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Then if that's the case, somebody in the room could
- 42:11Speaker 2: have said, hey, you know what, I love your choice.
- 42:14Speaker 2: You could be diplomatic about it. I loved your choice. Listen,
- 42:16Speaker 2: can you tone it down a little bit this time?
- 42:19Speaker 1: Right?
- 42:19Speaker 2: You know what I mean? That never happens anymore, dude.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I do remember though, back in the day when I
- 42:24Speaker 2: was going out for auditions, and it would be like
- 42:26Speaker 2: somebody who was from the urban or from the streets
- 42:29Speaker 2: and stuff like that, and you'd get the can you
- 42:31Speaker 2: can you spice it up a little doing something? You
- 42:36Speaker 2: can you can you put a little sauce on that?
- 42:39Speaker 1: No? How would they say it? Like what's the worst ways?
- 42:41Speaker 2: One would say that, can you spice it up a
- 42:44Speaker 2: little bit?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Spice it up a little?
- 42:45Speaker 2: And you'd be like what.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I had a producer say to me once about a script.
- 42:52Speaker 1: She goes, you know, she was this old lady. She goes,
- 42:55Speaker 1: you know, you could go black with it, and I go, okay, yeah,
- 42:59Speaker 1: that's that's there's no reason. She goes, you know, they're
- 43:02Speaker 1: doing their thing. She did that, judge, you guys can't
- 43:08Speaker 1: see the gest dure me And she sort of rocks
- 43:09Speaker 1: back and forth. She goes, you know, they're they're doing
- 43:12Speaker 1: their thing. It was one of the most awkward things
- 43:18Speaker 1: I've ever witnessed. I go, okay, so you want them
- 43:21Speaker 1: to do their thing? I got it? Oh my god,
- 43:28Speaker 1: should we get it? We have to take a break probably,
- 43:31Speaker 1: and then we're gonna get into the episode. All right,
- 43:33Speaker 1: We'll be right back with the Tom Kavanaugh.
- 43:41Speaker 2: We're bad, bad Hey.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Tom.
- 43:47Speaker 2: So we always talk about how everybody met Bill and
- 43:50Speaker 2: how you came to this show. You wound up during
- 43:53Speaker 2: the show for several seasons, lots.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Of episodes you miss have you must have been one
- 43:57Speaker 1: of our most recurring guest stars.
- 44:00Speaker 7: I don't know that, but I can tell you I
- 44:03Speaker 7: was always hugely grateful to get the call. I sort
- 44:08Speaker 7: of feel like even being on this podcast is sort
- 44:10Speaker 7: of like I've sort of, like I was telling your producers,
- 44:13Speaker 7: I've sort of like glommed my way on by like
- 44:17Speaker 7: you know, get that somehow this got put out there.
- 44:19Speaker 7: But I also felt that same way about Scrubs, Like
- 44:21Speaker 7: I don't really do scrubs, but I sort of like
- 44:25Speaker 7: piggybacked on the back of their success. And I've been
- 44:27Speaker 7: basically a parasite this whole time, and I'm so so
- 44:30Speaker 7: grateful for it because.
- 44:31Speaker 1: People loved you on the show.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Tom.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Sorry, it's funny, how.
- 44:33Speaker 7: Like, no, no, but it's funny. How like when you
- 44:35Speaker 7: like it isn't anywhere, you can't find it anywhere. Most
- 44:38Speaker 7: of this a lot of stuff that's harder, harder to find.
- 44:41Speaker 7: And I would say Scrubs is the thing. Even though
- 44:45Speaker 7: you know, you guys were you get all. You guys
- 44:47Speaker 7: did such a great job, but I did nothing. I
- 44:50Speaker 7: still get recognized all the time from I hear people
- 44:54Speaker 7: all the time want to say, hey, little brother, or
- 44:56Speaker 7: they remember this, they remember the bathtub episode. I remember
- 44:58Speaker 7: this kind of thing. And you know, it was like
- 44:59Speaker 7: ninety years ago and people are still like it's still resonant.
- 45:02Speaker 7: It's on Comedy Central. It's just like it's it's lovely
- 45:04Speaker 7: to be associated with your success.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Well, people really loved you on the show. They really,
- 45:10Speaker 1: you know, when when when Donald and I talked about
- 45:12Speaker 1: having guests on a lot of people asked for the
- 45:16Speaker 1: Tom Kavanaugh. But wait a second, sorry, go back to
- 45:19Speaker 1: what Donald asked, how did you come about? How did
- 45:21Speaker 1: it come about? Did you know Bill or was it
- 45:22Speaker 1: the obvious that people thought he's on NBC. He looks
- 45:25Speaker 1: like Zach that kind of thing.
- 45:26Speaker 7: No, I I think I had been friendly with Bill
- 45:34Speaker 7: and we weren't. We weren't friends before we sort of
- 45:37Speaker 7: became friends throughout, but we had, you know, had spoken
- 45:41Speaker 7: and gotten along and he he and his wife had
- 45:46Speaker 7: always been like quite friendly and generous and stuff, and
- 45:49Speaker 7: so I think it must have been him saying, oh, okay,
- 45:52Speaker 7: I know Tom. I I have a friendly relationship with him,
- 45:57Speaker 7: and so this seems like a natural fit because of
- 46:00Speaker 7: how we look. I think you run into people and
- 46:03Speaker 7: you're like, I would like to work with this person again,
- 46:05Speaker 7: you know what I mean. That happens occasionally, and it
- 46:07Speaker 7: almost never happens. I think all your intentions are always great,
- 46:11Speaker 7: and yet you're still trying to have a job and survive,
- 46:14Speaker 7: and so sometimes it's quite quite difficult, given you know,
- 46:18Speaker 7: it's very difficult to repatriate again. So I think I
- 46:22Speaker 7: think maybe we got along and then he was like,
- 46:24Speaker 7: oh this is this could be a nice little one off,
- 46:26Speaker 7: but then it ended up being more, which is tremendous.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Because you're really good on the show Man. Also, you know,
- 46:33Speaker 2: I we talk about this all the time in remembering
- 46:37Speaker 2: the shows. This is one of we talk about it
- 46:39Speaker 2: so much that it's become a bingo. It's one of
- 46:41Speaker 2: the bingo questions, Like somebody made a bingo sheet, and
- 46:45Speaker 2: on the bingo sheet it says they'll talk about at
- 46:48Speaker 2: some point, you know, if they talk about not remembering
- 46:51Speaker 2: the show, you get a letter, right, And this is
- 46:54Speaker 2: one of those moments because I really didn't remember this
- 46:58Speaker 2: episode that much. I knew the first episode I remember
- 47:02Speaker 2: you on is when John Ritter passed away and then
- 47:05Speaker 2: you out of nowhere. Was like, yo, you know what,
- 47:07Speaker 2: I'll come in and now and wait, how.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Was that this one?
- 47:11Speaker 2: That's not this one? That's not this one at all?
- 47:14Speaker 7: That was another significant one that was such a again,
- 47:17Speaker 7: you know, I think I don't know if you had
- 47:19Speaker 7: because you're there and you have no basis of comparison
- 47:21Speaker 7: for you people. You guys were like all all all
- 47:24Speaker 7: your group was such a welcoming you know. It's it's
- 47:27Speaker 7: it's interesting because once you go through, you know, thirty
- 47:30Speaker 7: years of this stuff, it's not always you know, it's
- 47:33Speaker 7: not always a group like that, you know, and I
- 47:35Speaker 7: obviously don't know all the inside stories and stuff because
- 47:38Speaker 7: I would just come in and out, but but being
- 47:41Speaker 7: in a place where you felt welcomed and encouraged, and
- 47:47Speaker 7: the idea is that that you guys. I can remember
- 47:50Speaker 7: laughing so hard at the stuff you guys would do
- 47:52Speaker 7: that wasn't in the script, knowing that you would do
- 47:54Speaker 7: this stuff verbatim as it was in the script, knowing
- 47:56Speaker 7: that you would get your blows, your chances later. And
- 47:58Speaker 7: I thought, this is incredible, this this environment. I remember you,
- 48:02Speaker 7: Zach doing one of I've seen like the actor who
- 48:05Speaker 7: played Ross Kueller, David Swimmer running to he had an
- 48:09Speaker 7: open laundry door and he like hits his head on
- 48:12Speaker 7: it and falls over there. That's one of the most
- 48:14Speaker 7: solid modern day praftfalls. And you did one to do
- 48:16Speaker 7: a glass door that was like we're just we're just watching,
- 48:19Speaker 7: you know. We were sitting by the monitors and I
- 48:21Speaker 7: was like, I remember thinking this and this is like
- 48:23Speaker 7: years ago. I remember thinking I could watch him do
- 48:25Speaker 7: this all long. Every time you didn't get tired of it,
- 48:29Speaker 7: you kept doing it. Every time you did it, it was
- 48:31Speaker 7: like seemed like better than the last.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I wanted to get it right, you know. I so
- 48:35Speaker 1: enjoyed doing the physical comedy, and and I would get
- 48:38Speaker 1: competitive just with myself wanting to be wanting to wanting
- 48:41Speaker 1: to make a really good one. And and uh, you
- 48:44Speaker 1: know that was a bit of my that was my sport.
- 48:46Speaker 1: If you will try to be good at I remember
- 48:48Speaker 1: one time in one of the episodes, you jumped out
- 48:50Speaker 1: and I just improved monsters.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 1: And you know, the fun thing about the show, as
- 49:00Speaker 1: you were just saying, was there was such a vibe
- 49:04Speaker 1: of just safety, that is, this is a safe environment.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Go nuts, do be adventurous. You know, Bill will tell
- 49:12Speaker 1: you you obviously get to it as written, but he'll
- 49:15Speaker 1: tell you if he wants you to bring it down.
- 49:16Speaker 1: But I was just watching this your first episode, and
- 49:19Speaker 1: you were making such bold choices and right so tricky,
- 49:23Speaker 1: which is tricky because you know, we'd be bound the show.
- 49:25Speaker 1: We're regulars, we're there all the time. We had we
- 49:27Speaker 1: had kind of built up that comfortableness for a guest
- 49:30Speaker 1: star to come on and be like, all right, I'm
- 49:32Speaker 1: gonna do a bold character. I'm gonna make bold choices.
- 49:34Speaker 1: I was really I was really impressed with you just
- 49:37Speaker 1: watching it back, because it's one thing if you do
- 49:38Speaker 1: it like on your fifth episode, here you are is
- 49:41Speaker 1: your first time on set, your guest star of a
- 49:43Speaker 1: show that that's really popular, and you came up with
- 49:47Speaker 1: this character which was nothing like your character on ED
- 49:50Speaker 1: and was just bold and funny.
- 49:53Speaker 7: But it was probably a lot to do with, like
- 49:55Speaker 7: I say, just being around a place where people were like, hey,
- 50:00Speaker 7: have fun, enjoy I think I think it just bears
- 50:04Speaker 7: repeating that your show was such a such a place
- 50:08Speaker 7: where you know, you welcome people to do that very
- 50:10Speaker 7: thing you were talking about. I remember also being so impressed.
- 50:14Speaker 7: I'm sorry of talking about it, but it just it
- 50:17Speaker 7: just seemed like I remember season six coming in and
- 50:19Speaker 7: doing something and I remember thinking, I remember watching on
- 50:22Speaker 7: different shows i'd done, how you know people buy into like, well,
- 50:27Speaker 7: how what's our place in the universe of television? Like
- 50:30Speaker 7: are we popular? Are we?
- 50:31Speaker 4: You know?
- 50:31Speaker 7: Are we getting enough attention? And I think you guys
- 50:35Speaker 7: probably had you know, the NBA, Why don't they promote us?
- 50:38Speaker 7: All that kind of stuff. But I remember coming in
- 50:41Speaker 7: on season six and watching you had settled into this
- 50:44Speaker 7: thing like this is us and this is for us,
- 50:46Speaker 7: and it was such a smart and intelligent way to
- 50:50Speaker 7: understand that life is fleeting, this is fleeting, and so
- 50:53Speaker 7: let's just all be for this show. And when you
- 50:56Speaker 7: when you come from a different place and you come
- 50:59Speaker 7: into that, it influenced me for the rest of my
- 51:03Speaker 7: career to go, this is really what you want. People
- 51:05Speaker 7: who are having each other's backs, who are for each other,
- 51:07Speaker 7: who want to just do this scene right now as
- 51:11Speaker 7: best as they can. And what more is that?
- 51:14Speaker 1: Yeah, speaking of doing a scene, really well, how fucking
- 51:17Speaker 1: funny are you stealing the lab coat and going in
- 51:20Speaker 1: to attend to a patient?
- 51:22Speaker 2: That shit was hilarious.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Yeah, mister laughed, before we do that.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Before we do that, let's get into this, uh recap?
- 51:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, sorry, So Tom, every episode, Donald will sum
- 51:36Speaker 1: it up. He has thirty seconds. I time him. Yes,
- 51:38Speaker 1: and this is great. Okay, So Donald, hold on getting
- 51:41Speaker 1: my stop watch up. He's been crushing it lately. He
- 51:44Speaker 1: got in a little cocky late and and and ending early,
- 51:49Speaker 1: which I don't like. I like you to fill your
- 51:50Speaker 1: time now.
- 51:51Speaker 2: This might go over.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Okay, on your mark, get set go.
- 51:56Speaker 2: J D's brother Dan comes to visit. He wrecks havoc
- 51:59Speaker 2: on all of j these relationships. JD wishes his brother
- 52:02Speaker 2: would just grow up Turkey and cocks are beefing again,
- 52:05Speaker 2: this time because both have good arguments on why their
- 52:07Speaker 2: departments are better at saving lives. By the act break,
- 52:10Speaker 2: Jdan Turk are shamed, Turk of himself, j D of
- 52:13Speaker 2: his brother. For Turk, it takes a lesson from an
- 52:15Speaker 2: unexpected person for him to regain faith that he's doing
- 52:19Speaker 2: his job the right way. For JD, it's him learning
- 52:21Speaker 2: and understanding that not all people are built the same.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Some people are content with who they are. How far
- 52:27Speaker 2: did I go over?
- 52:28Speaker 1: It's thirty six, But you had some fuck ups, and
- 52:30Speaker 1: I think the audiences to give you geez.
- 52:33Speaker 7: I thought it was amazing.
- 52:35Speaker 1: It's well done. It's well done. I think when you
- 52:36Speaker 1: were hurt. I don't think you rehearsed this time. Sometimes.
- 52:39Speaker 2: No, it's freaking We're an hour into the damn show.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I expected to do that.
- 52:44Speaker 1: You well, he didn't know that Tom Cavanaugh was going
- 52:47Speaker 1: to be so interesting.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I said, listen, I knew Tom was going to be
- 52:50Speaker 2: this interesting. So you're saying we were going to get
- 52:51Speaker 2: into the show.
- 52:52Speaker 1: What you're saying is that you were rehearsed right before
- 52:54Speaker 1: he went on the air, And now you're rusty.
- 52:56Speaker 2: And I was rusty. If you give me another chance,
- 52:58Speaker 2: I bet it's better.
- 52:59Speaker 1: No on here again, sick, good job. You know what, Well,
- 53:02Speaker 1: you know what, We'll have Dan speed it up a
- 53:04Speaker 1: little bit. No, we can't do no. Yeah, thirty six seconds.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Thirty six well done though. Well yes, well that's the
- 53:11Speaker 1: episode to remind you, Tom. We did this as a
- 53:13Speaker 1: service to people who want a brief reminder of what
- 53:15Speaker 1: the episode was Tom. Tom comes to visit me. He's
- 53:19Speaker 1: been driving a car across the country as a for
- 53:23Speaker 1: for three hundred dollars and uh, he has no fear
- 53:26Speaker 1: of doctor Cox, which is just mind boggling me. And
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'm squirming that he's I'm squirming as he meets Cox
- 53:32Speaker 1: for the first time and is fucking with doctor Cox.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be the best day of my life.
- 53:37Speaker 2: If I went to my brother's job and he had
- 53:40Speaker 2: a boss that was bullying him, and I could freaking
- 53:44Speaker 2: and I know that no matter what, he's gonna get
- 53:46Speaker 2: bullied anyway. I'm gonna fuck some shit up. Then how
- 53:49Speaker 2: about this, oh wort, you got to mess with my
- 53:51Speaker 2: little brother. Now I'm gonna mess with you.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I remember the day. I think I
- 53:55Speaker 1: remember on the day Tom even being nervous in real
- 53:58Speaker 1: life because I was so you know, Johnny was Johnny
- 54:03Speaker 1: and I we wear versions of our characters and and
- 54:06Speaker 1: we would just play that. Now you came in as
- 54:08Speaker 1: an alpha fucking with him, and I think I think
- 54:10Speaker 1: I recalled even on the day, being a little uncomfortable,
- 54:12Speaker 1: but I think didn't like it, and I'm I'm sure
- 54:16Speaker 1: he did, because nobody in that hospital, in the real
- 54:21Speaker 1: world or on or in the world of the show
- 54:23Speaker 1: fucked with him, and he had gotten quite comfortable with that.
- 54:26Speaker 1: And now here's someone who looks just like me walking
- 54:29Speaker 1: with him. But that was great. And then so the
- 54:33Speaker 1: let's talk about that Rickles moment. That was pretty fucking funny.
- 54:36Speaker 2: That ship was hilarious. I love the fact that the
- 54:38Speaker 2: reason why it's gonna happen is because he hears Bambi
- 54:42Speaker 2: and you're like, all right, I don't want you to
- 54:43Speaker 2: call me bamb before the rest of my life. I'll
- 54:45Speaker 2: love a lab wear a lab coat with a lab cooat.
- 54:48Speaker 2: And he walks in, and he goes and you know,
- 54:50Speaker 2: and and and we find out just before he walks
- 54:53Speaker 2: in that the guy's got to live and that the
- 54:55Speaker 2: surgery was everything was a success. And the first thing
- 54:58Speaker 2: Tom says, Dan says it was touch and go for.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Ye, and then he goes, you got out. We got
- 55:05Speaker 1: to look out for those little rickles.
- 55:07Speaker 7: And he goes his name is ricks He's like the
- 55:09Speaker 7: little reckles the kids future.
- 55:13Speaker 1: And then I go, okay, thank you. When you go,
- 55:15Speaker 1: damn it, Bamby, I'm busy to find a good nurse
- 55:20Speaker 1: these days. And shot was really funny by Michael Spiller
- 55:26Speaker 1: when you when you turn around, Yeah, I'm always a
- 55:29Speaker 1: sucker for the quick turnaround.
- 55:30Speaker 7: Yes, of course, damn it, Bamby, give me a second.
- 55:33Speaker 7: Yeah exactly, I'm busy.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Hilarious, And now my nightmare would be my brother coming
- 55:41Speaker 1: and flirting with someone that I had feelings for and
- 55:45Speaker 1: let alone also your friend. I mean, this is like
- 55:48Speaker 1: always awkward when you have a friend that's like, I
- 55:51Speaker 1: don't know if this guy's ever happened to you, where
- 55:53Speaker 1: like you broke up with someone and then you see
- 55:55Speaker 1: your friends starting to like and you're like, what the fuck?
- 55:59Speaker 1: And and and I just I felt for JD as
- 56:02Speaker 1: you as you and Sarah are walking down the hall
- 56:04Speaker 1: and flirting, and it's cruel, it's awful, it's so fucking mean.
- 56:07Speaker 7: It's awful.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's mean, by the way, it's me on both parts.
- 56:11Speaker 1: It's mean on, it's mean on. I mean, you guys
- 56:13Speaker 1: have a brother. You guys those two characters had had
- 56:17Speaker 1: a brother competition thing, obviously, but the fact that Elliott
- 56:20Speaker 1: was so willing to just like dive in and be
- 56:23Speaker 1: all like gigly that was so cruel.
- 56:25Speaker 7: Yeah, it was mean. It was like, ah, he's so funny,
- 56:27Speaker 7: and he's not really that funny, but he was just
- 56:29Speaker 7: being You're like, ah, yeah, I know, that's okay. You
- 56:32Speaker 7: just and then the idea that wait, this is actually happened,
- 56:35Speaker 7: This is happening, is happening. You know.
- 56:37Speaker 2: I love I love the how he realizes it's happening
- 56:41Speaker 2: out of nowhere. You turn day tonight by flicking a switch.
- 56:47Speaker 1: That was great. And then they start totally making out,
- 56:50Speaker 1: and then and then they pop back to reality. And
- 56:52Speaker 1: then in reality, I yell, stop your stop your stupid laughing.
- 56:56Speaker 1: It makes you look like a whore.
- 56:58Speaker 7: Right, and you're like kidding, just the worst thing you
- 57:02Speaker 7: could say. And then the way I.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Did it was like vomiting it up, like I couldn't
- 57:07Speaker 1: I couldn't hold in the rain.
- 57:09Speaker 7: You skewed it out.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Yeah, stupid laughing.
- 57:13Speaker 1: It makes you look like.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Goodness grace jump cut.
- 57:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I must have been tricky to shoot. We must
- 57:20Speaker 1: have done the first part and then come back.
- 57:21Speaker 7: We did. We did. Then we came back at night
- 57:23Speaker 7: and Sarah had this idea. We were both chewing gum,
- 57:25Speaker 7: like spit the gum out, you know, and then like
- 57:29Speaker 7: you know, have the all the fun two three, four.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Were you call that chewing gum like throughout the whole
- 57:34Speaker 1: scene or do you you both? You know, sometimes when
- 57:36Speaker 1: you're an actor, you know you're going to make out
- 57:37Speaker 1: with someone, you want to have fresh minty breath. Was it?
- 57:39Speaker 7: I think she? I think she no. I think she
- 57:42Speaker 7: added gum later on, because there was. It was one
- 57:46Speaker 7: of two things. One is like you kissed the person,
- 57:48Speaker 7: then they have the gum that you had in your
- 57:50Speaker 7: mouth not great or you know, pew pew. And I
- 57:53Speaker 7: think she we realized we could have a we could
- 57:55Speaker 7: double down on the comedy moment by spitting our gum out.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Before the used to happen. We used to have Banaka
- 58:01Speaker 1: on set, not not just for I remember you.
- 58:03Speaker 7: Guys had the You guys had the you also had
- 58:06Speaker 7: the boom things that melt in your mouth.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it does give you heartburn.
- 58:10Speaker 1: They give me heartburn. Yeah, both both Donald and I
- 58:13Speaker 1: would have too many and they would give us heartburn.
- 58:15Speaker 1: But the old school aerosol spray baknaka, which is my favorite.
- 58:20Speaker 1: We started having it just from we had kissing scenes
- 58:22Speaker 1: and we didn't want to have bad breath for our
- 58:24Speaker 1: scene partner. But then it became like, you know, we're
- 58:26Speaker 1: all friends, all up in each other's faces all day long.
- 58:28Speaker 1: We're like, let's make a rule everybody, we don't have
- 58:31Speaker 1: bad breath, and so we would like just be spraying
- 58:33Speaker 1: a NonStop.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Dude. I remember, it became how many can you spray
- 58:37Speaker 2: in your mouth? And burn his mouth like tin under
- 58:41Speaker 2: the tongue, just for ships and Giggles's.
- 58:44Speaker 1: And eventually our boom operator velcrode one to the boom
- 58:48Speaker 1: and and we called it boom naka and we'd be
- 58:52Speaker 1: like Kevin boom naka and he would just dip the
- 58:54Speaker 1: boom down. We'd pull the ASO off off the mic
- 58:58Speaker 1: it was on beltrow and then and it attach it
- 59:00Speaker 1: back up.
- 59:01Speaker 7: That's greadte a right there.
- 59:02Speaker 1: That's some Yeah, that was thought we thought he was
- 59:04Speaker 1: gonna do it for like a day as a joke.
- 59:06Speaker 7: It was up there for years, same same canister, hopefully
- 59:11Speaker 7: hopefully changed out.
- 59:13Speaker 1: I like when at five point twenty four when when
- 59:16Speaker 1: Cox goes, well, people please stop calling me? Yes, and
- 59:19Speaker 1: then kelse Walkspine goes hey, I'm nuts.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm nutsy, how's it going, I'm nuts.
- 59:27Speaker 7: He had another one in there where was like I
- 59:29Speaker 7: don't have time for pity or something like that, or yeah.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Right when he's talking to Johnny Castle.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I wrote that down too, and why does
- 59:37Speaker 1: why does well? First of all, when you scare me
- 59:39Speaker 1: in the shower? Hilarious. That was the first of many scared.
- 59:42Speaker 7: We did, like ten we did ten. Do you remember that?
- 59:44Speaker 7: I remember I remember waiting, waiting in the thing behind
- 59:49Speaker 7: the curtain and like thinking, oh this, maybe this one
- 59:51Speaker 7: will do this, Like there was we had like five
- 59:53Speaker 7: or six different ones, and I think the first one
- 59:55Speaker 7: was really terrifying for you.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I remember that. Uh, it's funny. I just put two
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: and two together that I guess we bought the clear
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: shower curtain that's in the opening of the show, right,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: because wasn't there a clear shower curtain when you scare me.
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: Yeah, the no, no, there isn't a shower curtain that
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: it's opaque when I come out because you don't see me.
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: And then right and you.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: It looks like it's clear. I thought I have I have.
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: Because you have you guys have that runner earlier on.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're we're shopping for a clear shower curtain,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and then whereas it it is five point thirty two.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: I'm just curious because it'd be funny if we uh
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: we happen to keep the shower. Yeah it's clear.
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: Oh goodness, how could it?
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Then?
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: How can you bought it?
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: We actually bought it?
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Okay, look at that continuity. Yeah, I mean I got air, dude,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: you scared the ship out of me. And I mean
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: in real life, and I think the character. But I
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: obviously had a nice juicy map behind me because I
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: like literally flew up.
- 1:00:52Speaker 7: Yes, yes it's solid and once again, Zach.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Braft solid, Zach Braft special.
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: It's good stuff.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I laughed. When makes her own Halloween candy, she says
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: she's dressed. First of all, she's dressed like raggedy ann
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: and uh and there's like this bowl of popcorn and
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: homemade lollipops, and she says something like, if you want
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: name brand stuff, this fist is packed with nuts or something.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: This episode was actually written by Tim Hobert. Yes, I believe.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Was he with us the first season? Well, he came
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: in on second.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Him was not their first season, no, but he's a
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: very funny writer.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: So this is his first big episode. This is first
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: episode of the season. Then, yeah, and also Mike Spiller's
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: back as our director.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: We like Spiller a lot. This is the first episode
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: in which I read on Scrubs Wiki this is the
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: first episode that you're ever called Gandhi by doctor Cox.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: That's interesting. Sarah's sister is actually one of the interns
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: in this episode. Also, yeah, and Cox is I mean
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: when Kelso's doing rounds in the beginning.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Sarah chosen when Kelso pulls he hates the costumes, and
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: he pulls some cat ears off, and that's Sarah's sister,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: not not her younger sister obviously, that's yeah, it's her
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: older sister. And then I noticed that Johnny Castle playing Doug.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: He takes off the clown knows and kisses it. And
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I remember on the day thinking that was so random
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and funny, but I have no idea why he does
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: it. It's very weird. Came out. Yeah, no, I know exactly
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: takes the clown that Kelso says, take that fucking costume off,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: and he takes the nose off, and he looks at
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: it and he gives a little kiss before he fucking
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: which is just so weird and amazing.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I don't know why he did it, but yeah.
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: The scene between you and Johnny C when you win
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: the bet is like, to me, that was just such
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: classic Scrubs because it's it's good in the in and
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: of itself with the comedy's just hilarious, especially when you're
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: celebrating and it kind of goes on, then it goes on,
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: then it keeps going on, which I personally it's funny.
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: Then it's sort of maybe not funny. Then it's really
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: funny because you just keep doing it.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: You do the.
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: Backward why, and it's just all the different beats of
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: your comedy. There just like had me laughing and I'd
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: forgotten the scene and then and then there's then there's
- 1:03:04Speaker 7: that other level where he's like yes, which is what
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: that's what your show did so well, where it's like
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: you have the great comedy and that could just on
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: another show that would just be enough. And then it's
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: like there's a hammer a gravitas that still works. It's beautiful.
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: It ends with ends with you, like with a legit
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: serious moment considering this information. It's great.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: It's a matter of Joelle and you just look like
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: you freaked ou him on something.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: Oh oh, Gena Price Price when heard a thing I
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: did and I love her?
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Sorry, OK, wait, what happened?
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry, wait what happened? I think since you distracted
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: the show, you're gonna have to share what happened?
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Sorry, Gina Price, Bikeeleo.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: It is a amazing director.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: She directed to Love Basketball and she just has a
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: new movie on Netflix, Cold, Oh my gosh, The Old Guard. Yes,
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: black lady who's been working for a very long time,
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: and I love her.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: She used to write on Felicity, like season one of Felicity,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: she wrote, and then she went on to all right.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: But what that made your face light up? Because I
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: thought it was Tom's use of the word.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Gravitas acknowledge my existence.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I get so excited. Oh well, congratulations, what did she say?
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: What she like? You're one of the articles you've written
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: or something.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I did a.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Pod talking about the new movie and she was like
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: this was so great.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, that's okay. That's always
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: good to be. Don't asologetic, don't know that.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I just want the listeners to know from my point
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: of view. Tom said the word gravitas, and Joel's face
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: lit up and she started like doing the hand thing
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: where you might cry, and I'm like, wow, Joelle really
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: loves the word gravias.
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: She had better reasons to celebrate, h better reasons to celebrate.
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: I'm glad to hear it wasn't gravitas either. The old
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: guard plug. That's great, that.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Would be that would be the funniest ship ever.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: But she just loves to word gravataz whenever she whenever
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: she hears it, she has to fan her eyes. I
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: love Donald. You're bragging about having two singles in your wallet.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: You say hello mister when he gives you the funny
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Hello Jackson, me introduce you to the Washington Brothers.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: Right now, you guys get nice and acquainted.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: And in Mamalt you're dancing. There was so funny. Man.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Yes, I had a lot of I had a lot
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: of fun doing that. I'm sure I did. It's it's
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: really weird, you know how things change, Because everybody did
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: a Michael Jackson impersonation back in the day, everybody did it.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: I can't recall the last time I've seen Michael Jackson impersonation.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: He's been a very, very long time.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Now, you probably if we were doing the show now,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: you probably wouldn't be doing so many Michael Jackson's Now.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I love a Growing Pain shout out for those of
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: you who were too young to know. Growing Pains was
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: a very popular sitcom and starring Kirk Cameron. And uh
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: when when I when when we all go to lunch,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: I say, oh, no, I'm trying to defend Dan. Oh no,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: he lives with my mom, but he's got his own area.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: He's like Kirk Cameron when he's at the garage with Boner.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: And Kirk Cameron had a friend in the show name
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: name Boner, which made no sense. Why was his friend
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: named Boner? Everyone knows what his name.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: His last name was the Bones, the Bone, and his
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: dad's name was Sylvester.
- 1:06:16Speaker 7: But then you right, you yell out to the room, Boner.
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: Come on, everyone's too too low hanging fruit.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: No, come on, boner, speaking of laging, you guys didn't
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: hear what I said. His dad's name Will was Sylvester
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: and his last name is sta Bone.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Sylvester Stabone. Yeah, do you know the growing Pains theme?
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Instead of Sylvester Stallone, Sylvester Stabone?
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Do you know the pain?
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: I get it?
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Okay, it just wasn't that funny. I guess I'm sorry.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: I thought it was hilarious when I first arder with
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Joe kids. Wait a second, boner, your dad's name is
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Sylvester stabone And then he turns back and looks that
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Mike and goes, who knew.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: What?
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Joe? A joke?
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Donald? Do you know theme song? Tom? Tom? You might
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: not know this, but Donald can sing song.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: If you tell me how it starts, I could sing it.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Show me that smart again, Okay, Zech, I got it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Don't waste anov it on your crying. And we're nowhere
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: near the end. Her best is edit to begain.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Oh, okay, start it too high.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: As long as we got each other, we got the
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: world hanging right, and our hands baby rain or.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Shine foot all the time.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Okay, we've got each other sharing the left alone sharing
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: the left.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: So I'm going to release an album tom of Donald.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Have to show that dignity. The show that did every
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: season they did a different version of that song.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Oh really. They also at some point they had a
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: baby and then they were like, the baby's boring, and
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: next season she's gonna be five. And also they also
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: had nobody else to age, but the baby was all
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: of a sudden five.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: They also like fostered a kid for a little bit.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Who was young Leonardo DiCaprio.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Oh right, I was young Leo's first show, I believe, Well,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I don't know if it was his first, but there's
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: really cute. I've seen like you know when they do
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: like you know, you know, remember who this little boy was.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I've seen like his first interviews. I just love being
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: an actor and I'm just happy to be with these guys.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: And it was really cute.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: And now look at him.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Donald has a little Leo crushed. Tommy comes up almost
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: every episode.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: I love Leonardo DiCaprio.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Last one of my favorite actors of all time.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: One of our last episodes ended with Donald talking about
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: trying to doc with.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: No no, no, no no later break We gotta we
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: gotta go to break. We gotta guess guys to bring
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: just we should go to break. Guys break.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: We'll be right back after Donald dox Leo.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, So what's again?
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: What did he say?
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: What was that?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: I did not say I wanted to dock with Leo.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I just said thought he was a great actor.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: We went to break, We went.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: We haven't okay yet?
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: All right, now we're going to break.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: We gotta I think we need to clarify this because
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: I don't want it out there and the ethos that
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: somebody that I'm walking around telling people I want to
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: dock with Leo because that ain't what's happening here.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Okay, that does not want to doc Leo. Everybody, Yes,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: he does. We're going to break. All right, now we're
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: back Tom. We take a caller here on this show
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: and Joel curates them. There are zillions of people that
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: email her and try and send her payola. Uh and
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: she it's.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: All steps, all the money, she accepts, all the money,
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: all the money sends. You sending money to Joel, do
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: it the right way. Don't send like sending the real deal.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: How do we feel thought? If you don't get picked.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: But money does help.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: But you know, cash is a little crass. What you
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: could sell send baskets. Cash is crash. I don't know
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: if it has ever said that before, but I was
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: a good lion.
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: Cash is crass.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Cash is crash. Send the woman a wine basket or
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: some of God's let us. Uh, she'll take either one. O. G.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Cush is preferred?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Who have preferred for the Tom Cavanaugh? Who Who's America's
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: favorite older brother?
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: We have Christina Christina.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Hello, where are you calling from? Christina Kuston and the Uh.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Christina, you're an e ournurse we heard, so that means
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you're gonna get even more respect than the average caller.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: We give our callers a lot of respect, but R
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: nurse gets top respect.
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: From Thank you.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: What's it like? What's it like right now? You guys
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: are in Houston.
- 1:11:06Speaker 7: It's a it sucks. Yeah.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: What's the status? I think I had heard that Texas
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: was legitimately running out of ICU beds.
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, we tried to ship out a critical
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: patient the other night and couldn't get a hospital that
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: could take him in Houston. We tried to fight him
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: out because we didn't have a specialist for it and
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: could not find a hospital.
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: It's tragic.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: It's tragic, my god. And people need to hear from
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: people like you on the front lines because I think
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: a lot of people, you know, as we've talked about
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: on the show, Donald and I lost a friend and uh,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: and I think people like you who ru on the
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: front lines, people like us who've lost a loved one,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: we're seeing him. And Dan was explaining something on the show.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I thought that was really really landing with me that
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: unless you're on the front lines and the seeing it,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you can kind of live in this sort of dream
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: world where you you know, you're just you know, obviously,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I know people are suffering, they're not working, and the
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: kids aren't in school, but it cannot it's a little
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: bit out of sight, out of mind. Whereas someone like
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: you who's seeing this every single day, it must be
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: just very very traumatic for you.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: We also see what COVID does to people too, what
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: and and and and a lot of people that's something
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: that Americans don't see. We don't see the uh, what's
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: what's left up people after COVID has ravaged their bodies
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: and uh and and you know, rect habit, rectaboc on
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: their organs and stuff. So, uh, it's just.
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: A it's a slab in the face when we're risking
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: our lives and then people are on here saying it's
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: a hoax or that it's a it's just frustrating because
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: we don't have any reason to.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Lie about it, right, I know, I know, but we
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: see that. But we see that. I see even in
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: our comments on Instagram. I do't know you saw this. Donald.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: People were like, enough of the mask talk. You're becoming
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: like every other show. And I want to like throw
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: my fucking phone at the wall because I was like,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: our friend just died, so there's gonna be some COVID
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: talk wear a fucking mask, right, But anyway, we thank
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: you for for I just think there's nothing more noble
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: than being a nurse. And there's extra cherry on top
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: for doing it in the er because the things you
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: must see.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: And I want to thank y'all real quick for the
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: video that y'all did with Neil Patrick Harris thanking all
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: the healthcare workers. It did not get enough props, but
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: it really meant something.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Oh thank you. So let's switch to something more like
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: where our main mission is to make people gig a
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: little bit. Do you have any questions for for us
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: about Scrubs or anything? It could be about the Flash,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: My first question is, what's the craziest thing. A fan
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: has asked, Joe.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, have you ever signed anyone? And then
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: they you saw them again and they were like, I
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: turned your signature into a tattoo.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Yes, I've had that, and.
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: People get tattoos of you? Is that weird?
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Yeah? I was talking about this yesterday. There's some really
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: weird tattoos of me out there. And also I actually
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: liked the ones some people have tattooed lines from Garden
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: State that were meaningful to them a film I wrote
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: so I that I think is really cool because my
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: something I came up with was meant enough to them
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: to put on their body as a as A as
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: whatever a mantra if you will. But what I've seen,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: like like the weirdest faces I've made on Scrubs where
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, like screaming out of fear, like
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: actually in this episode with Tom where I'm like screaming
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: out of fear, and I've seen that on like someone's thigh.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Donald I saw a tattoo of you that ask that
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: looked sodhing like you.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: It looked nothing like me. It looked like Charles Barkley.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: You're on my back and it looked like Charles literally
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: now you know, as a kid, I was a big
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: fan of Charles Barklay. But it didn't look anything like me.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: It looked literally like Charles Barkley. Right, the weirdest thing
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: that's ever happened to me. I get a lot of
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: people asking for it to eat.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Yes, that happens to you a lot because they think
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: you're very strong and they don't.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: Know I can hold a lot of people up there. Yeah,
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: but it's it's.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Donald you do. Let a lot more people mount you
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: than I would ever.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Listen. If you are brave enough to ask me, I
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: will most likely oblige. Now you should you now?
- 1:15:27Speaker 7: He said, most likely? Fine print That being said that.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: The fine print, Tom is like, you must have been
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: under a certain amount of weight before trying to please
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: ast all permission. Don't do it in front of his
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: children or his wife will bitch slap you.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Well, the fine print is the fine print truly is
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: like it has to be a special occasion. It can't
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: just be out of nowhere, like you walk down the
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: street and like, let's eagle, and that's not gonna happen.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: It has to be you know, it has to be
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: something like if I'm at a conference and it's you
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: know what I mean, and.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: They got to catch you, you're not woozy.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: So that's the one thing that that's the one thing
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: that that's pretty weird is that being asked to eagle.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: It's like, really want to jump on my back? You
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: feel that comfortable right now to walk up to me
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: ask me to give you an ask and ask me
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: to give you a piggyback ride?
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: Tom, have you ever had a weird fan moments? I
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: bet some of your young Flash fans have asked for
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: something odd.
- 1:16:23Speaker 7: I think just what you were saying earlier, I think
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: it really tests your metal as an actor when somebody
- 1:16:30Speaker 7: suddenly unveils a tattoo of you on them, because you know,
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: I think the reaction they're looking for is like, oh,
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: that's great, wow, you.
- 1:16:38Speaker 8: Know, but really your reaction is ah, right, yeah, you know,
- 1:16:44Speaker 8: and you really got to you got to try and
- 1:16:46Speaker 8: cover that as best you can because they've got, you know,
- 1:16:49Speaker 8: a permanent ink on their body.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Read it. I'm just worse.
- 1:16:53Speaker 7: Of course, you're naturally assumed they're going to regret it.
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: You think the next day. You don't think you're going
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: to end up seeing it ever, But yeah, of course
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: it's going to be a massive regret.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Well, we talked before you came on to about how
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna get Donald on my face, just like Joel Joel.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Joel reminded us that I should not attempt to shade
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: it in at all, because.
- 1:17:18Speaker 7: Uh huh, I listened. I listened to your episode.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Yeah listen, of course. Yeah, you guys were very well
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: that Joel just came on in a moment of nervousness,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: being like, guys, guys, here's the.
- 1:17:30Speaker 7: Voice, here's the voice of reason. Please listen to the voice.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Of I assure Joel that would be solely an outline
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: of his beautiful face.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: How many people have sent you in Apple Teini in
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: the bar?
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Oh, that's a very good question. That's happened a bunch.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I got and sent a lot of Apple teini's. They
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: don't I don't.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Like apple, just be honest, it's very.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Sweet, it's sugar, I don't. I mean, I understand it.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: If you're if you're young, or if you're if you're
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: out for a night and you want to have a
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: funny cocktail. But I just think that if you you
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: shouldn't get drunk on them because they are so filled with.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Sugar headache the next day.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I'm one of the owners of a restaurant in New
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: York that I'll give a plug to now called the
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Mermaid Oyster Bar and seventy seventy nine McDougall if you'd
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: like to check it out when the world reopens.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: But do they serve oysters at this oyster.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yes, they have the sixteen different types of oysters. Wow,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I love that you just said, do they serve oysters
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: at this oyster bar?
- 1:18:28Speaker 7: He was trying to trying to see if it was no.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Good, he'd be a good friend and trying to be like,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: tell us more about this. So you probably want to
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: know about our lobster roll.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: Donald, Do you have a lobster roll?
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Oh, we have the best lobster roll in Manhattan. I'll
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: tell you that right now.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And my point was is that the owner told
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: me that he's like, do you have an idea why
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: people keep coming in and ordering Apple teenies? And he's like,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I don't know, but can you make them? He's like, no,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: we're not making Apple Teeni's, but just people, just tell
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: your fans to stop ordering.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: When we were young and they were tasty, though.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: I don't know. Do you like them, Christina?
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: A little sweet for me?
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Do you have another question for us?
- 1:19:12Speaker 7: Christina?
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: So Scrubs one, what is your most memorable scene that
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: you filmed?
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: Oh? Heavy question, good question.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Well Tom can go first because he's the test. He's
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: got less to think about it because he's only.
- 1:19:26Speaker 7: Did six or so episodes.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: It's easy.
- 1:19:28Speaker 7: It was just, you know, I loved almost every scene
- 1:19:32Speaker 7: we did for comedy. There was one where the three
- 1:19:34Speaker 7: of us were.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Part buddies where we did the farts.
- 1:19:38Speaker 7: Yeah, we were goofing around the thing and that we
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: had to we were eating breakfast and then we had
- 1:19:41Speaker 7: to go. I had to go to the bathroom and
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: it just became this long running I'll be in there
- 1:19:46Speaker 7: for one minute, two minutes, five minutes, ten minutes, one minute.
- 1:19:50Speaker 7: And then the other one was just the John Ritter stuff.
- 1:19:53Speaker 7: To have been like a part of that with with
- 1:19:55Speaker 7: you guys, was you know, it was, it was meaningful. Certainly.
- 1:19:59Speaker 7: The bath the bathtub scene was a little less fun
- 1:20:03Speaker 7: than you might expect. At one point, John c Riley
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: is like, by now you're sitting in what amounts to
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: probably eighty percent of your own urine, and I think
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: that was probably closer to the truth. So less fun.
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: But at the same time, you know, it's one thing
- 1:20:18Speaker 7: that I hear a lot, you know about the Captain
- 1:20:21Speaker 7: bubble Beard or whatever the heck it was called. Anyway,
- 1:20:25Speaker 7: you guys, that's enough. Now you've had enough time. I've stalled,
- 1:20:27Speaker 7: well enough, I feel, and now you guys have the
- 1:20:29Speaker 7: tarmac ready talk.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: About your best shows. We answered something similar to this recently,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: but I wonder if it's the same answer for you.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Donald, go ahead, well to Star Wars.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you're right.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Also getting the opportunity to do an Indiana Jones situation
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: in someone's colon, it was a lot of fun, right,
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: doing the whole opening to Raters of the Lost Dark
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: in side of someone's colony fun. And then, to be
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: honest with you, one of my favorite scenes, it's a
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: song but Zach and I singing everything comes down to
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: Pooh still to this day is one of my like
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: I watched that with the smile and I can't watch
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: a lot of the things that I do, but that's
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: one thing that I've done where I'm like that was.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: That was fucking a great time shooting that.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, one of my favorite times was repelling across the
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: fake city street on the Universal back lot on the
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: episode where Donald and I go on a quest to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: find Molly, Heather Graham's character, and we repel across the
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: street and then nail the wall and I fall into
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: a bunch of garbage and then I get up and
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: she looks at me, and I act like I'm surprised
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: to see her, and I go, Molly, what are you
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: doing here? That was just the most fun because you know, do.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: You remember how you got the to repel across the rope.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Which I pulled your shirt off of you?
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: No, you pulled my gown off of me. I did
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: I have a gown on it or it wasn't a shirt?
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah? And I go, yeah, I pull it off
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: and you gasp and then you're shirtless. And then I
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: turn it. I turn I turned into a thing to
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: repel across the street and then and then I go Molly,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: and she goes, what are you doing here? And then
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: all of a sudden you just see Donald in the
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: background drop down into frame naked. So that was just
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: so fun because you know, we didn't always Yeah, as
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: I've said before on the podcast, that episode was like
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: so epic. We didn't always do episodes that were that big.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: And there we were like taking over the Universal backlat
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: to do that scene, and I was directing and and
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: it was just funny. I remember just laughing my ass
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: off that night. All Right, well we got to go
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: because our show's going so incredibly long. But Christina, thank you,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: and in all sincerity, thank you so much for for
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: what you and for being on the front lines for us.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: Can I just see y'all to give a quick shout
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: out to my best friends that are super jealous right
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: now of course, Preston and Nikki.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Yo, Preston, Nikki, it's down a faison and.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I'm Zack graff and Zach Braffell.
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: Sorry, what's happening y'all?
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: What's happening y'all? What's happening? By present and Nikki and bye, Christina,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Thank you so.
- 1:23:23Speaker 7: Much, Thank you, Christina.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Now listen, it's not beneath us, its scrubs. To do
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: a fart joke every now and then, and uh, and this, Your.
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: Family loves to fart. Dorians love to fart, dude, It's true.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, we were, we were, we were.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: We were lucky enough to have the late John Ritter
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: do a fart joke on on the show before he
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: passed away. And now we have the great Tom Cavanaugh
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: honoring us with a fart joke. We we sprinkled him around.
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: That was sprinkle him around. Good analogy. Your reaction is tremendous.
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: It's like it's everywhere. It's a man who can't escape,
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: it's everywhere.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: It is so horrible though, when when someone is flatulent
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: in a car and you don't have control of the window,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: isn't it just a horrible, horrible moment of life.
- 1:24:08Speaker 7: I think an airplane is worse, but yes, airplane, everybody's
- 1:24:17Speaker 7: staring straight ahead.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: And there's moment on a plane where you're like, you
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: don't want anyone to think it's you to react.
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: You have to go, oh geez.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I always put my t shirt over my nose so
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: people know like, oh, he's reacting, it's clearly not him, right.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: It's just like when you go into the bathroom after
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: somebody took a ship and on the airplane, and then
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: you've got to come out and face all the people.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: I'm sure we've talked about it.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: We have. We talked about that horrible thing. And especially
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: when you're in the public eye, you don't want someone
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: to be like, dude, I was on a plane and
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Tom kavanall cross the bathroom and meanwhile you're thinking, like, no,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: mother effort. That was the guy before me.
- 1:24:55Speaker 7: I don't know. I don't know if I would be
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: that upset, but okay, yeah.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I have an anxiety of when I go into a
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: bathroom and it's been just rocked and then I come
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: out and I'm like, I didn't do that. That was
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: someone before me. I think you should do such.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: An anxiety about public restrooms period.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Dude, do you think people you put toilet paper down
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: on the seat?
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Listen, man, we could go to the movies the whole family,
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: back when going to the movies was a thing. We'd
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: be at the movie theater if I and the movie
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: could be five minutes away from starting. If I feel
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: even the slightest bit of a bubble in my guts,
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: we're going home. Oh really, I'm not shitting at a
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: movie theater.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Your poor kids. What do they do?
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: They cry on the way home that year in kids
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: home because you had to poop. Listen. I remember I
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: remember one time going to a club and getting to
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: the club and being at the club and uh, you know,
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: about to dance and it was lit that night, and
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: feeling a bubble in my guts and being like, you
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: know what, I'm going home.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Oh at restaurants, so you never pull, you never pull
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: in public.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: I try my hardest not to poo in public. I
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: have a phobia of it. It's uh, I don't know, man.
- 1:26:06Speaker 7: Do you keep your outings to a concentric circle where
- 1:26:08Speaker 7: you can make the getaway if you have to.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: No, there's been times where I was like, yo, I
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: gotta do something. We gotta do something. Do you have friends.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: It's just something about a public A public restroom is I.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Used to have that.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: For some reason, I can't do it.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: When I was a kid, I had it. I got
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: over it. But one thing I can't do is if
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: it were in the men's room and there's and there's
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: a line of stalls, I cannot poo if someone else
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: is in the stall. I have to wait until the
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: stalls are empty. I can't hear it next me. I
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: just can't want next hear that. But also I can't
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: sit next to the person and they're like farting and
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: you hear them like I can't. It's too uncomfortable for me.
- 1:26:49Speaker 7: You got to hand it to them for their effort.
- 1:27:01Speaker 7: You know, they really have to go.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: You know, I don't want to be that guy. Man,
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: I've been. I've been in the bathroom where another man
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: did that. And I was a kid. I was very
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: young and it was me and we were doing a commercial.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: It was a basketball commercial. What, yeah, it was a
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: basketball commercial. Already tell us, I know we should talk
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: about basketball. You have to come back on because we
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: need to talk about our NBA Entertainment League days and
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: all that stuff.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Tom, Tom, Well you already since we since you're.
- 1:27:30Speaker 7: You, Joe, you heard this, Dan, you heard this right.
- 1:27:32Speaker 7: So I was invited. So that's what that's what those
- 1:27:35Speaker 7: days are going to be.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Now one pound, now you'll be back, now, be back.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: But we were filming a basketball commercial and I was
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: very young and one but I wasn't young enough where
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: my parents had to be there. But there was one
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: kid who was very young and his dad had to
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: be there and his dad would play basket. We were
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: playing like we were all doing this you know, uh
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: uh the commercial. So we were all playing like full
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: courts on other basketball courts. And we would play with
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: his dad too. And I remember going to the bathroom,
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: me and a bunch of other dudes. We were going
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: to take a leak and the dad was in the
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: bathroom and was having a real hard time pooping, like
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: the type of ship like the like the type of
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: stuff was like, oh.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: God, damn ship. Why why when someone yells.
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: Why the corn? That's the corn. That's the corn.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Okay, you don't corn people are might be eating when
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: they listen to this.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: Okay, we'll cut that out. We'll cut out the corn.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: No, I want to leave it.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: I like, okay, all right. Anyway, My point is I
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: remember when he came out of the bathroom, the shame
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: on his poor son's face because we were like, yo,
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: your dad's and they're blowing it up. And I think
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: that's where my phobia comes from. I don't want to
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: be that guy.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: From when I was a kid, my mom took me
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: into the stall with her. You know, I was of
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: an age where she was obviously not leaving me alone,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: and a woman was really farting a lot as she
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: was going pooh. And then we came out to the
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: sinks and I apparently turned to the woman and pointed
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: and went.
- 1:29:14Speaker 9: Mom, that's the lady who was farting.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: My mom says, like to this day, that's the most
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: embarrassing moment of her life.
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: Goodness, all right?
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: The gorilla by the way, Donald, I literally looked down.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: I looked down at my notes and saw I thought
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: that was a really funny reveal.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was very You think Ken was
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: ever in the suit?
- 1:29:43Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: I don't know. That's a great question.
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: That is a great question.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Let's ask Bill that one.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Let's ask Bill, because Bill, I'm sure you want to
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: say hi to the Tom Cavanaugh And you know, I
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: did notice some of the fans were missing you and
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: you're sabotaging our show by telling the secret numbers? So Bill,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: was Ken Jenkins ever in the gorilla suit? And also
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: say hi to Tom Kavanaugh? Bill, Hey, guys, how you doing.
- 1:30:13Speaker 10: Question number Ken Jenkins in that gorilla suit? I seem
- 1:30:17Speaker 10: to recall is what I love about Ken, you know,
- 1:30:20Speaker 10: trying to be respectful of actors. I was like, of course, Ken,
- 1:30:24Speaker 10: if you want to be the guy in the suit,
- 1:30:25Speaker 10: you know, we and I think he cut me off
- 1:30:29Speaker 10: and said, Bill, if it's not gonna you're not gonna
- 1:30:31Speaker 10: see me, I don't care if I'm ever in that grocer.
- 1:30:36Speaker 10: So I do not think Ken Jenkins was ever in
- 1:30:38Speaker 10: that thing, pretty sure. Uh and uh I respect him
- 1:30:43Speaker 10: more for it. Also got to say, man, h not
- 1:30:46Speaker 10: only one of my favorite guest stars on the show,
- 1:30:48Speaker 10: but an all time good buddy Tom Kavanaugh.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: Hello, sir, oh hi Tommy.
- 1:30:53Speaker 7: How you doing?
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Man?
- 1:30:54Speaker 10: I don't mean to steal this podcast, but it has
- 1:30:58Speaker 10: been way too long since we've seen each other. Has
- 1:31:00Speaker 10: been a has got to be at least like for
- 1:31:02Speaker 10: like five or six or seven.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Or eight months.
- 1:31:05Speaker 7: Eight?
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: No, thank you, jas guy is.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: Turn it off down season two? Damn get a new.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: You need a new trick. Trying to hijack our show.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: You know, speaking of tricks, the janitor never does his trick.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: I was I was asking, I was about to ask that.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: It's a writing it's a writing flow of Bill.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: Sorry, what was that about?
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: Since you just tried to hijack our show by saying
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: the numbers, I will tell you even though now you
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: can't reply that, uh you're fucking up? Or Tim Ober,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Tim Over, Tim Hovers fucked up, somebody who fucked up?
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: Why do you lay in that the janitor's going to
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: do a trick and he never does. I think it's
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: a mislead for him being in the gorilla suit. But
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: but he's he's like twice Ken's height, so that doesn't
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: really work. I'm just saying, do you want to talk
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: about how great it was to have Tom Cavanaugh on
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: the podcast?
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: Dude, you have to come back. You'd already said you will.

- 1:32:21Speaker 2: lot of basketball together. And so the next time you're
