- 0:00Speaker 1: Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on Sports
- 0:02Radio A. I'm thirteen hundred the Zone on this Tuesday afternoon.
- 0:05My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us,
- 0:08and joined as always by the producer Cameron D.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Parker.
- 0:12Speaker 1: The D and Laburth certificate stands for Dallas, as in
- 0:16his favorite pro football team that he has deemed unwatchable
- 0:20in his eyes, so he's not going to watch them
- 0:24until they and unless reached the NFC Championship game. So
- 0:29the D has to stand for something else, maybe dethroned
- 0:33since the Texas Rangers now officially are no longer the
- 0:37defending world champions since the playoffs has begun and they
- 0:40cannot defend the title any longer.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just the twenty three world champions now.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's still the most recent one, most recent world
- 0:47champions and that pain will be a little less hurtful
- 0:52if the Detroit Tigers can go ahead and win this
- 0:55game and maybe win tomorrow, we'll be okay.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Years shot in freud isn't overdrive as it is for
- 1:06many Ranger fans whenever the Astros are playing. And I
- 1:10remember last year during the playoffs in the World Series.
- 1:14How the Astros fans were rising up rooting for the
- 1:18Diamondbacks or the teams that were playing after the Astros
- 1:22lost to the Rangers. So I won't keep you in
- 1:25suspense any longer. The Astros and Detroit Tigers are underway
- 1:29and game one of their Wild Cards Series. Here's the
- 1:32good news for Astros fans. The Tigers pitcher Scuball, who
- 1:39won the Triple Crown of pitching wins strikeout cra may
- 1:44have to leave the game.
- 1:45Speaker 2: He'd been controlling.
- 1:47Speaker 1: He set the Astros down in order in the first,
- 1:51got the first out in the second, and took a
- 1:53line shot that bounced in and hit him in the hand,
- 1:56and he threw to first to get the wrong out.
- 2:00So he's retired the first five batters he's faced.
- 2:03Speaker 2: However, training staff is out there with him.
- 2:05Speaker 1: They're gonna look at it and see and it was
- 2:10just a wicked one hopper and I believe I'm not
- 2:15sure off of whose bat that was, but it hit
- 2:17him pretty squarely.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Uh been, You're done?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, And he recovered Scoo ball did to throw the
- 2:26first to get himut, and they're gonna let him have
- 2:28I think a warm up toss or too. But anyway, meanwhile,
- 2:31the Detroit ta here's the bad news. The Troy Tiger
- 2:33scored three runs off from her Valdez in the top
- 2:37of the second inning, including three consecutive two out hits,
- 2:41and so now Detroit is up three to nothink Scooball,
- 2:44by the way, is staying in there, and he just
- 2:46threw a pitch for a strike to Jeremy Pania, So
- 2:50we'll see if it affects him, but right now he
- 2:54looks like he's okay again. So Game one of that
- 2:58American League Wild Cards and the Tigers have jumped on
- 3:02the Astros three to nothing as Houston bats in the
- 3:05bottom half of the second game.
- 3:06Speaker 2: We'll keep you posted on that one.
- 3:07Speaker 1: The second day game starts in about an hour and
- 3:11that's in Baltimore where the Orioles will host the Kansas
- 3:14City Royals. Game one of that later this afternoon Game
- 3:18one of the National League Wildcard series in Milwaukee between
- 3:22the Brewers and the New York Mets. And tonight is
- 3:25Game one of that Wildcard series between the San Diego
- 3:29Potters and the Atlanta Braves. That after the craziness that
- 3:32happened yesterday, speaking of baseball coming up in the four
- 3:38o'clock hour, we'll visit with Geene Watson, our baseball insider,
- 3:44our MLSB baseball insider.
- 3:46Speaker 2: By the way, Scoo Bold does look okay.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He just set the Astros down an order again in
- 3:50the second, so they're going to the third with a
- 3:52three to nothing Detroit Lee. So Geene Watson will join
- 3:55us in the four o'clock hour. We always get his
- 4:00annual predictions on the postseason, even though Game one here
- 4:03between Detroit and Houston might already be in the books
- 4:05by then, but I've been kind of given a preview,
- 4:08so this is his predictions are official. So Gina will
- 4:11join us in the four o'clock hour. Three o'clock hour.
- 4:14This being a Texas Tuesday and a Texans or a
- 4:19Texan Tuesday. The reason why it's Texan is because Cam
- 4:24Parker rolls back with the return cuts out of breaks
- 4:26from some Texas musical artist and in some cases legends
- 4:31and in other cases icons. For example, Stevie Ray, the
- 4:36late Stevie Ray Vaughn. We hear from him in the
- 4:39two o'clock hour. We hear from the iconic Willie Nelson
- 4:43in the three o'clock hour and the King George straight
- 4:45in the four o'clock hour. We hear those. So that's
- 4:48what I mean by Texan Tuesday. But it's a Texas Tuesday.
- 4:53Normally we hear from long worn football players during this
- 4:57time of year on a Texas Tuesday, but this being
- 5:00an open date on the schedule a bye week, there
- 5:03are no media availabilities involving long wrn football players. And
- 5:06we heard some from Loghorn's head coach Steve Sarkeishan yesterday
- 5:12from his news conference. We've got a few more cuts
- 5:15from him to let you hear some thoughts from him
- 5:18on a couple of players in specific. But also it's
- 5:21a Texas basketball Tuesday. In this case, Loghorns had an
- 5:27open session their last old forty to forty five minutes
- 5:30of their practice this morning over at Moody Center, open
- 5:34to the media. They came over and then Rodney Terry,
- 5:37long Horn's head coach, addressed the media afterwards on the
- 5:39progress of the team. Their season opener comes up one
- 5:44month and two days one month and three days from today,
- 5:48November fourth, in Las Vegas against Ohio State at the
- 5:53Team Oble Arena. So we'll hear from Rodney Terry coming
- 5:57up and that will be coming up here as well
- 6:03this afternoon. And back to football every Tuesday on a
- 6:08Texas Tuesday, we talked football in the state of Texas,
- 6:12both at the collegiate and high school levels with Greg Temper,
- 6:16managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, and temp
- 6:19will join us in the three o'clock hours he does
- 6:21every Tuesday and we'll get his thoughts on the college
- 6:25football It just took places past weekend, what's to come
- 6:27this week and also some big high school matchups as well,
- 6:30So that's that is all coming up.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Did you watch some Monday night football last No?
- 6:36Speaker 3: You?
- 6:37Speaker 2: What did you do last night? Hurt yourself? I heard
- 6:39you morning? That was this morning?
- 6:41Speaker 3: Last I know I did. I did watch Inday night
- 6:43football this morning. I hurt myself doing what weightlifting?
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:49Speaker 3: I'm not doing too good today, Craig. We're put too
- 6:51much on the bar, did you? Yep, just a little bit.
- 6:53Didn't have somebody to spot for you. Bad form hurt
- 6:59you back?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, hopefully it doesn't last too too long. Hopefully
- 7:08things will be okay. But ouch, why couldn't you just
- 7:11stick to basketball on Mondays. Then that was that was
- 7:15relatively less harmful. Yeah, right after this may just that
- 7:19might just be the move going forward.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Okay, all right, all right, all right, so you did
- 7:24watch you did watch them football?
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, there there was no defense in that Seattle Detroit game.
- 7:32Speaker 2: What a fun back, very offense in the other game. Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I did not watch a single snap of Tennessee Miami,
- 7:38thank you, no sir, no interest whatsoever. But Detroit Seattle
- 7:44delivered in I mean Geno Smith, who of course we
- 7:48got the cement West Virginia. I mean he threw from
- 7:49with six hundred passing yards. He was setting all kind
- 7:53of personal records last night against Detroit. But just a
- 7:57couple bad turnovers. And really Seattle, who was missing four
- 8:02starters going into that game and then I think they
- 8:04lost two more during the game, just could not find
- 8:07a way to really stop the Detroit defense except for
- 8:10Detroit othink, except when Jared Goff was taking safeties in
- 8:14his own end zone.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So a fun game though.
- 8:16Speaker 3: But if you're I mean, if you're a Lions fan,
- 8:18you feel good about this team going forward?
- 8:21Speaker 2: Did you get enough points out of Jami or Gibbs
- 8:24wind or going I know.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I'm sure you did too it, David mint Count, I
- 8:27didn't know. Well, I had too much ground to make up.
- 8:30Oh he did well for me, but it wasn't quite enough.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Put it this way, I went from getting blown out
- 8:35to respectably losing.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So my first loss.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But yeah, I thought about you when I saw Gibbs
- 8:41score the second touchdown, thought I.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Can't might have got enough to win his game.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yep, that second touchdown just put me over and good,
- 8:48we'll too good.
- 8:49Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Coming up, we're gonna hear more from Logrorn's head coach,
- 8:54Steve Sarkisian. We'll hear from him. We're gonna hear from
- 8:57Rodney Terry, Texas men's basketball coach this afternoon. We do
- 9:01have inconceivable coming up this hour. We'll have that Greg
- 9:04Tepper from Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine next hour and
- 9:08Gene Watson our MLB Insider with the postseason preview. It
- 9:12is still three nothing Detroit. The Tigers have a runner
- 9:15at third with two down in the top of the
- 9:17third inning. As Fromer, Valdez has struggled a bit. He's
- 9:21had fifty pitches working in the top of the third
- 9:23with two outs and a runner at third base, so
- 9:26we'll keep you posted on the afternoon playoff baseball that
- 9:31is going on, as well as our conversations on football
- 9:35and basketball. By the way, and the Astros were able
- 9:38to get out of the third on a great play
- 9:40by Jeremy Payney to get a humpback liner to save
- 9:44a run, so it's still three nothing Tigers, leaving the
- 9:48Astros Houston wing to bat in the bottom half of
- 9:51the third inning. This is sports Radio AM thirteen under
- 9:53the Zone, where you can always listen to us for
