[upbeat rock music] Hey, welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 228.
0:25
Yes, yes, yes. Hello. Did you, did you miss us last week? Kenny did. Did he? [laughs] I ran into him [laughs] at the Kern Cross and he- No podcast? He's like, "What the...
0:36
D- M- So- Well, we had the, uh, the ever entertaining Chewy fill in for a show. Yes, he, he did and he was like, "Well, I don't want... I wanna hear you g- Yeah, bless your heart, Kenny. Mm-hmm. He t- [laughs]
0:49
Our, our one and only Kenny. I know, my ego is floating over there. Right, Ken. I was like, "Ken, listen, listen. See, listen. Listen to what he is saying. Unper- unsolicited." Completely. All right.
1:00
[laughs] So what did, uh, what did... How did Kern Cross go? I didn't make it over there. Uh, they went in the eventual circle [laughs] by the lap. Did you see the, the map- Mm... of the course?
1:13
[laughs] Oh, it was complete spaghetti bowl. Mm. It was just bloop. So I didn't really actually look at, at it. [laughs] I pretty much viewed it from the basketball courts. Gotcha, okay.
1:25
Yeah, I, uh, I drove by a couple of times that day and there was a lot of activity over there. Yeah, this one guy was doing some [laughs]... He was having a good time for the Fixie Cross, was like the last race,
1:38
and yeah, he was, you know, I think he was one of the wheelie kids. So you know, he was like- Having fun... doing it. Oh yeah, having a really good time. Then bunny hopping the, uh, dismount.
1:49
You know, I was having, like, flashbacks of the Pat Smagey going nuts at the Jungle Cross. Yeah.
1:57
Well, they're, the fixie kids were at a couple of the, uh, Urban Jungles too and that's interesting because that's a skill- Yeah, they-... I, I do not possess. Oh yeah, it's... I'm in awe. I t- I'm like, whoa.
2:08
Yep, and well done, man. [laughs] By the way, there's Tony over there. Look at him. Hey. That's, that's Tony. Tony, Tony the one house owner. Yep. Solo. And, and JK. Solo, the no house. The no-lo.
2:23
[laughs] Uh, well, so the reason why we kind of just sort of blew off last week is because partially that River West actually did trick-or-treating on- Whoa... Halloween.
2:35
On- But they, but they didn't because power was out. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I thought they wanted the lights off anyway. Mm, no. Oh, they, that, so- No, it, it was, um, pardon my French, but an absolute [laughs] shit show.
2:45
Oh, boy. [laughs] I had to go get Cleone from work in Shorewood and apparently Shorewood, being as nice a neighborhood as it is, had a drive-by shooting.
2:51
Um, so Cleone had to close her shop [laughs] early and there were five squad cars and two firetrucks. Two ambulances and a firetruck. Got dang old headlights on your vehicle, don't you?
3:00
Well, I did, and it was blizzarding out, but I got her- This was on, on Halloween? Uh, on Tuesday night, last Tuesday, and the other problem was, um- I got good walls in my house...
3:09
no, no streetlights- [laughs] Because I didn't hear shit... and no streetlights on Humboldt and Locust, which made getting through that intersection a proverbial pain in the ass. Not even Red Flag code.
3:17
Oh, were you like listening to good car- John Carpenter music? Oh, I was just mad. [sings] Oh, yeah, yeah. But anyway, it's done.
3:24
And yes, we weren't here because it was snowy Halloween and supposedly trick-or-treating and power outages. Yeah. [laughs] Halloween, Halloween's costume was Christmas.
3:32
Like, I knew, I knew we had the Chewy one in the can, so it made the decision not that hard for our, for our earnest listener- And we-... Ken Nielsen... we were gonna do it on a Wednesday, but someone had to go see Tool.
3:45
Oh, yeah. Yeah. I went to... That was me. Yeah. How was it? I went to see Tool. It was, it was very good. It was loud, of course. Tool is loud. Uh, we had very decent seats.
3:55
Uh, the opener, Steel Beans, never saw anything like that before in my life. [laughs] It's a guy- Was that good or bad? [laughs] Well, I, it, okay, it was a good thing to have seen when I saw it.
4:06
I don't know that I'd have to see it again. Gotcha. But he, he has a guitar around his neck and he plays the drums. So as he's drumming, he's also kinda strumming with the right hand that's doing the whacking as well.
4:17
Oh, gotcha. It was- I've seen a band or two that pulled off- He did- Not, not an entire show, but- Yeah, he did a good job... hip hopping. Interesting. A few too, few too many penis jokes maybe, but, but it's Tool.
4:29
[laughs] He actually made penis jokes at- There was some sort of-... at Trump's toupee- toupee? No. I don't know what the hell he was doing. Is that what you call that place? [laughs] Well, that's what it looks like.
4:39
That's pretty funny. The Pfizer Forum. The Bel Air. Yeah. The Bel Air II. [laughs] I mean, some grumpy Tool fans are like, "Why don't they play more old stuff?" Because, well- Because, because they're on tour...
4:51
why don't you listen to new stuff? Right. You know. Yeah, no, I, I have never seen them before. I will probably never see them again, not because I don't like them, but because- [laughs] Yeah, the-...
5:01
concerts are ridiculously expensive. That, I- Oh, and try to drink at one. Oh, I, on a whim- Yeah, I pre-gamed a little bit- Yeah... and decided that was not something I needed to worry about.
5:09
On a whim I looked at the, the tickets. Quantiquesa? Mm-mm, mm-mm. No? And that was before it was gonna compute any- Surcharges... extra fees. I mean, just the ass- Don't get it done...
5:22
the ass through the door was 90 bucks and I'm like, "Fuck you." Oh, that, yeah, that was... And that's- A shitty seat... a, a very low price for what we ended up having to spend. Right.
5:31
Oh, God, and you, just a nudge over was another 25. I'm like, "No, no, no, no." Yeah. "I know, Maynard, no. I have, no. I have seen you and-" Well, you could hardly see him anyway. He's kinda in the background.
5:42
Well, that's kinda the fun at times. Right, yeah. Well, like he, like the one at Summerfest, he was in, uh, did it pretty much all in silhouette, like a killer backlit, in flames- Yeah... kinda
5:54
very awesome light show for the amphitheater. I was impressed by that. [laughs] I saw, I saw something in my feed that he went one Halloween while at the Pfizer Forum- Dressed as Dwight from Office Space? Yeah.
6:08
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He looks strikingly similar. [laughs] I'm just looking at their set list. Oh, they did 46 and two. Well, there, yeah. Yeah. See, that would, that would, th- th- I'd, I'd, I'd be happy.
6:19
Why are you holding two phones? This is weird. Nope. It's a- Oh, that's his- Charging... oh, it's the battery... the, yeah, the one that you had gifted to me had finally- Finally... finally. [laughs] The ghost. Right.
6:29
Oh, so you got the, the twin? Yeah. I was gonna try to get something else clever, but- It works... uh, I, the more I looked at 'em, I was like, [sighs] "No."
6:39
Oh, well this one has a readout, so it's exactly how much percent I have left. That's actually pretty good. And I'm like, "No, this one is all in one package- All right. All right... and it works out so goddamn good."
6:49
All right. All right. Hey- Happy... guess what's, guess what's coming up not too long from now? Your cycle- Thanksgiving... San- you're not gonna talk about Santa Cycle Rampages yet? Uh, it's my daughter's 18th birthday.
6:59
Not till Thanksgiving. [laughs] Well, if we do that one, it's gonna be really close, so. Are they doing it in Madison? I haven't seen any posts. Well, so what I've all uncovered so far, and is December 2nd in Milwaukee,
7:11
December 9th in Madison- Okay... and December 18th in Chicago- Oof... which I've never done. Me either. And apparently their 23rd annual cycle, Santa cycle thing. Um- In Chicago? That's what it claims. Wow.
7:24
So I'll have to look at that. Huh. That might be fun. I texted Chewy to see if they were doing anything. He's like, "The game scheduler won't allow it." [laughs] So- Hockey never ends. It's the dumbest sport ever.
7:36
I said that, Chewy, bite me... they do seem to have an 11 to 11 and a half month season. Right? [laughs] Anyway, he's trying to come up with something, but we don't, I, I doubt we'll end up going to, [smacks lips]
7:50
uh, Rochester, but maybe Chicago. I don't know. I'm gonna look into that one a little more. And on that same, that same December 2nd is Global Fat Bike Day, too. Yep, yep, yep.
8:02
Uh, your buddy Gomez over there to the, uh, fancyfatbike.com site's got a listing of celebrations around, around the world.
8:11
[laughs] You made a post that I briefly glanced through about, uh, wondering when QBP is gonna end Salsa production, too. Uh, there's a lot of- Rumor? I [sighs] - Salsa's a pretty fine bike, man...
8:25
there's some big companies going down, though, so- Yeah. Yeah... you know. I mean, not just Salsa, but you know, bigger. [laughs] It's, it's, it's a crazy, messed up, messy thing out there.
8:38
Speaking of that, did you see that Lectric released a 26-inch wheel fat bike, electric fat bike? Have not. It's a pretty... Pre-order right now. It's, uh, stout enough to hold, um, this dude we all know who's big.
8:52
You think? That's what they're claiming. I don't know. That'd be interesting. Over 400 pound payload. You missed him. He was here before. I know. Here today? No. Here today. He wasn't? We were...
9:02
Well, we're trying to- That jackass?...
9:04
we're trying to electrify, started out looking at the ice cream truck, which we've got a solution, but he's not keen on it, being the wheelie guy that he is, which is using a front hub motor. Oh, yeah.
9:13
That one can ain't gonna work. It... He's, his dad's telling him, "Quit being such a jackass and start riding like a normal person." [sighs] But Sam rides- [laughs]... a beautiful wheelie, man.
9:24
That guy's, that guy's got wheelie down to an... I mean- Yeah, I don't-... it's pro... so we're looking at other solutions. Uh, if anybody has electrified either a Wednesday or a, uh, ice cream truck,
9:35
go ahead and, uh, give me a ringy dingy or drop me a emaily thingy. Yeah, the pictures he sent, that was not fitting. No, no.
9:44
He came over, and the Wednesday's a lot closer, and we haven't, I've, I'm still trying to get ahold of the CYC guys to see if- They make something... I think that that, it, that motor has, uh, less clearance issues.
9:54
But we'll get there. We'll get there somehow, some way. Oh, boy. [sighs] Hey, hey, hey, look what's going on, a green light. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Push the button. Hey, welcome to Radio Program Caller.
10:07
Who do we have on the line? Hi, fellas. This is Mark Peterson from Ogden, Utah. Mm-hmm. How are you guys doing today? Doing well. Doing well.
10:14
I was just noticing how full I am for some reason, and it's getting, it's getting hard to even put a little beer in my belly. [laughs] What'd you go out for lunch or something? I don't know what happened.
10:24
It's just weird. Maybe it's a tumor. Maybe it's a tapeworm, eh? Could be a tapeworm. Could be a tapeworm. Mark, how are you in Utah? Yeah, it's probably a tumor. [laughs] Uh, I'm pretty sure it's a tumor. Not a tumor.
10:36
All right, Mark. It's a tumor. How are you? Yeah, yeah. Oh, I'm doing fantastic, man. Dude, uh, recently I've decided to become, uh, a person that sells bikes, I guess.
10:48
And so I built up, um, this bitchin' 2005 Lemond, uh, road bike, and it... I, I have two different wheel sets on it, that go on it.
10:57
One wheel set that's clincher, and it comes in just at 19 pounds, and the other set is tubular, and it's, like, 17.7 pounds. Wow.
11:06
So it's just super light, fast, strong, aggressive, and I sold it within 24 hours of putting it up on the market. Nice. Nice. I must- That is a big boy, right? Yeah. Yeah.
11:21
I must have the wrong bikes for sale because stuff isn't going around here very often. [laughs] Well, I, I, I don't know why this one went. It probably went because I decided I wanted to keep it.
11:32
[laughs] Um, I was like- Right... "Oh, I, I am fucking keeping this bike. It is mine. No one's getting their... Oh, you're giving me how much?" [laughs] "Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That'll pay my mortgage this month. Hell, yeah."
11:44
Awesome. Uh, just before you called- Yeah... we were, just before you called, we were discussing a couple of events coming up in, uh, December, one being Global Fat Bike Day. Yep. Hell, yeah...
11:55
have you got anything going on out your way? I mean, I know you used to do 'em yourself, but- Yep... yeah.
12:02
E- every, every single year I have put on a Global Fat Bike Day, even if no one attended it except for me, just because I, I, I have this, uh, feeling of continuity. You have to do it every year. I like it.
12:12
[laughs] I like it. And this year This year, this year's gonna be the same. I've kinda got dibs on Global Fat Bike Day Utah. Um, that verbiage is mine.
12:23
[laughs] I'm the one who gets to use that for my, like, uh, event or whatever kind of thing. And so, um, I also have the.com [laughs] on it, so that's nice too. [laughs] But anyhow, um,
12:35
I'm gonna just put a- together another thing hoping that it'll go back to the grassroots, that it'll be the people that really are into it, that it's not a trendy thing.
12:45
They wanna go out and they wanna go do this activity with other people that are like-minded, and that's when the funnest Global Fat Bike Days- Mm-hmm... ever happen- Mm-hmm... in my opinion. Yeah, for sure.
12:55
Do you ever combine it with, uh, Santa Cycle Rampage? Well, I, I think that that would be awesome, but we don't have quite the level of Santa Cycle Rampage that you guys do out there.
13:10
Um, you guys actually get a, like, a shit ton of Santas- Mm-hmm... in cycling suits that are ready to go, you know? Mm-hmm. A little bit harder in Utah for some reason. I don't know why. [laughs] Yeah, I- Not at all.
13:20
I can't figure out why... I, it's, it's now a benefit for the Bike Fed, which is a good thing. Um, and- Yeah... the actual rampaging is mostly police-led now. Yeah. [laughs] So- And slow. [laughs] So slow.
13:34
I mean, to the point of danger. [laughs] You know how, like, when you go a little too slow and your balance is just huh-huh? And the other- You might tip over... yeah, the other people- It's close...
13:46
well, you don't know the habits of the other people around you 'cause it is such a mon- like, it's a lot of people. Yeah. And it's like- Yeah... whoa, whoa, hey. I saw, I saw, like, 20...
13:57
Was it, like, 20,000 people at the last, like, Rampage that I saw? No. I think more, I think 2,000 maybe. 2, 2,000. Probably 2,000. It's still a lot of people. Oh, okay. And there is r- Well, I-... there is rampaging-...
14:09
my brain does that, but yeah... o- on that day there is rampaging, it's just not necessarily of the organized variety- Yeah... so. That's the fun of it. A lot, right, a lot of- Nothing to shank...
14:17
you just kinda dip in and out of the actual- [laughs]... organized event and then- Yeah... pop off and- Essentially it's, it's for everyone to- You, you- You can, like- Just dress up like Santa and rip around the city...
14:29
but you, you can stop, have a beer- That's about it... or two and then catch up with them four blocks later. Yeah. But there's not really even a catch-up. That slow, yeah. So, so- It's just a thing that, yeah...
14:37
so- So you guys let me know. You guys, you guys know more than anybody else. I kinda feel like I maybe have a physical persona of a Santa Claus kinda dude. [laughs] Fairly well, with the white beard and all.
14:49
Um, what would it take a fella like me to become a rampaging, uh, Santa? A Santa outfit. Yeah, gotta get a Santa suit. That's it.
14:57
Your best bet's the old party store where the mall Santas rent their suits, and then they got the old suit and they give that one up. Yep. I think I got my very, very nice- How much did it take?
15:05
I got mine for, like, 25 bucks. It's a, and it's a nice one. Yeah, I got a pretty good one on there, and you know- Oh, how, how-... I didn't spend that much on it... how many of you guys have a Santa suit?
15:13
How many of you guys have a Santa suit? Well, all of us. I kinda do. I got one. I think JK has a Santa blanket. I have two. Yeah, I have a Santa Snuggie- [laughs]... that I got [laughs] for, like, 15 bucks- And-...
15:24
at CVS and it works... and we can't- Brilliantly. [laughs] We also- Sh-... can't rule out the dreidel. Yes. The dude that shows up every year in the dreidel. Yeah. And I sprayed it with tent sealant- [laughs]...
15:34
s- because it was r- raining peas and carrots- Yeah... [laughs] on that first- Well, well let, let, let's put it a different way. How many people do you know have Santa suits? Shockingly a lot. [laughs] Yeah. A lot.
15:47
[laughs] Well, and there's- I was gonna say [laughs]... there's definitely variations on a theme, like, like Lunds does a, a, a Grinch- Yeah... Grinchy Claus. A Grinch or a Satan or a Yeti-ish. We've seen- Yeah...
16:00
we've seen people dressed as Christmas trees with lights on and- The Krampus... yeah, and also the, the, uh, any number of, uh, uh, reindeer-type things. Yeah. Uh, yeah, there's a lot of- There is an occasional Jesus.
16:13
It's, it's a holiday. You can't rule out the occasional Jesus. Oh, yeah. The Holly Holy Days. [laughs] Does Zwart, Dave Zwart- Dave Zwart usually throws- Yeah, he does a good-... down as Jesus.
16:20
He does a, does a good Jesus. He does look good as Jesus. [laughs] Jesus. If Jesus was a white man like Dave Zwart.
16:25
Well, there, there, there used to be a decorum, there used to be a decorum where no one talked about fucking Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Right? That's all gone. That, that was the rule.
16:34
That's what I was- That was the rule... starting to bitch about earlier.
16:36
It's just that, that our first one is on December 2nd, so I figured we wouldn't have much time to pimp it out if we didn't start talking about it a couple days early, so. And- No, I know, I know...
16:47
referencing the Jungle Cross, 'cause that normally would be that weekend after- Yeah, Thanksgiving... Thanksgiving. Yeah. So. Be the Friday after. All right, Zito, if you're in there, in the- Yeah. In there, yeah.
16:58
Get that shit on. So d- do you guys do, like, a, a, a registration? Do you have a fee? Do you have a, a legal consent that you have to have signed? You, how far do you guys go on this? On the Santa Rampage?
17:13
Personally, not at all. Not at all. Nope. But the Bike Fed definitely does a, uh, a waiver, and they- Oh, they've got police presence and- Well, they'd like for you to donate.
17:20
Yeah, because they've got insurance and they've got police presence and all that stuff. Well, it's a fundraiser, isn't it? Mm-hmm. Right. Mm. Yep. I mean, like, that's the mask.
17:33
I mean, it's generally to make money for people to have some kinda Christmas, isn't it? Uh, it's, it supports the programs that the Bike Fed has been- Yeah... doing, safe streets. It's, uh- The, the Rochester one-...
17:44
getting, getting kids on bikes, all sorts of stuff. Yeah, the Rochester one's Toy for Tots. Oh. True that, yep. And there are some others. Rochester's Tots. Oh, nice. Yeah. Nice, nice.
17:52
But the Bike Fed seems to have the stronghold. Oh, good news on, good news on the giveaway front- Yeah, the Bike, soon...
17:57
um, we, we are planning on, um, we are getting seriously ready to mobilize and, uh, start creating a new thing that replaces the old thing that went sour, and start getting bikes into the community again, start getting them to the people that need them the most that are not getting any help right now.
18:17
Cool. So in, in your ca- I'm so, I'm excited about that... in your case, is, is Very excited... is the souring something you can discuss?
18:23
Because we've had a couple different iterations of co-ops and such, and they usually get co-opted before they... They do some good- Yeah, yeah...
18:32
then they do some good, and then they do some good, and then some people get in there and they take all the good parts, and then they're done. There you go. Nope. Exactly that. You just described it nutshell.
18:41
[laughs] Interesting. I don't know. It's, there's just some areas where they seem to really, I guess it's who's, who's running them is, is really the, the key to the, the key to the shop. That's huge. That's huge.
18:53
Because, um, a- around here locally, um, one of my personal friends started our local bicycle collective, and, um, he did an amazing job.
19:05
He really set up, uh, the foundation and everything that we needed to follow for many years, and it provided an incredible resource to the community for year after year after year after year.
19:16
Developed incredible relationships both with the police department and other different regulation entities around the area that would help us collect these bikes that were gone or left or whatever and repurpose them, get them reconditioned, get them back into people's hands, right?
19:32
So this went on very well for quite a while, and then they started making... Someone came onto the board of the nonprofit and decided that, "Oh, shit, this building's too small.
19:43
We should build us a brand new fucking building." And so they decided to break ground on a $4 million building, million dollar building several years ago- Jesus. Holy mackerel... and they've been trying to...
19:53
Yeah, yeah, talk about going for- or nonprofit to for-profit overnight, changing the way that they, like, everyone did everything in the shops. Before, it was really lax. It was like, "Eh, that's two bucks, I guess." Mm.
20:08
You know? Now it's like, "Well, that's, that's $12.50." Mm-hmm. You know? I mean, it, it, everything totally changed. Uh, the community quit being served.
20:18
They quit giving away bikes, and I don't know how they're holding onto their nonprofit status, to be honest with you. I really don't know. But we aim to fill that hole.
20:29
We aim to, uh, start, uh, I think, I think the name we're kinda thinking about now is The Community, Community Bike Shop. Nice. Like it.
20:38
Just call it The Commu- Community Bike Shop, real straightforward, and then do those same things.
20:44
Take in, uh, bikes, refurbish them, get them back out to the public, provide help, uh, on service and maintenance and also on parts and installation, and get people taken care of that need the help. They need the...
20:58
need it. They just need it, man, and they're getting jacked. Well, I hope it works out, and you should have a, a strict, uh, no California policy on who you give your bikes to. [laughs] What does that mean?
21:11
Are, aren't you getting inundated with California people still? They're in the valley of, uh- Oh, of course... of our savior, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Yes. Ha- hail Satan. Um, anyhow- [laughs] So like, yeah- And Santa...
21:23
it seems like a lot of people are coming. They are coming from California, and the, there's... I, I don't... There's so much...
21:31
There's so many residential buildings being built right now, it blows my mind, is how, how is our population going from, you know, whatever it is to probably double, triple, four times what it is in a year or two, and how do we deal with that from an infrastructure perspective?
21:49
Now, there's a bunch of scary stuff in there, but the good stuff is our bike shop is gonna love that shit, because they are building housing complexes all around us.
21:58
The road construction in front of our current bike shop in Syracuse right now is just finishing up. Pretty soon we're gonna be right at a hub off of a freeway. I mean, it, it is gonna blow up.
22:08
We're gonna get so much foot traffic, it's not even s- it's just amazing. It is going to work good. But how does this change the landscape of cycling in our local area?
22:20
How does it change our relationships with the community, and how do we deal with that effectively without alienating new people? Gonna be a challenge, for sure. Sorry, I didn't mean to go on a diatribe.
22:33
[laughs] No worries. We were just, uh, approaching the top of the hill over here. [bell ringing] Oh, woo-woo. Thank, thank God we're there. I ran out.
22:43
To- Tony, uh, Tony supplied both the, the NA, uh, Extended Play beer as well as, uh, Three Sheeps Fresh Coast, which we've had several times before. I, I'm a big- Good, good beer... re- refr- huge fan of Fresh Coast.
23:00
I think it's bang... I mean, it's, it's light, it's easily drinkable, but yet tastes like real beer. 4.8. Um, that being said, though, I did bring, uh, Lakefront Brewery's Extended Play NA, because it's a great beer.
23:16
[laughs] Yeah. [laughs] It's really a... It's... I, I, I told you guys this a couple weeks ago. I had it at the adult show and I kept... I, I'd have a sip of it and I'd look at it and be like, "Is this really NA?"
23:26
And I'd have another sip of it, [laughs] and I'd just keep going back. I'm like, "This is outstanding beer." [laughs] For an NA, it is, y- you know...
23:34
I guess this goes along with, you know, Greg, you always were mad at me when I said for an aluminum bike it's really nice. For an NA, it's a really great beer. [laughs] Yeah.
23:42
They, they actually call it near beer 'cause it's got about a half a percent. They all have a trace- Is it, is it expensive?... of beer. Is it, is it what? Is it expensive? Uh- Is it... How...
23:53
What's the price like per can? It- Like, uh, $1, $1.50? It's 10 bucks a six-pack, like everything in Milwaukee. Nine. Oh, so... Yeah. Yeah, you're paying the, the- You know, it, it, it...
24:04
It's, it's, you know, it's small batch brewed and... Well, you know, Lakefront- Oh, right. Oh... is available in 49 states now, so it may be available in yours. Yeah.
24:15
Well, you know what is really nice about those NA beers, I mean, people make fun of them and shit like that, but if, if you got a situation where you gotta get your head clear but you still love fucking beer-
24:25
Um, that, that's the way to go. But- It really is... Mark, you're, you're saying that to a bunch of people from Milwaukee And if you can smoke mojitos, perfect. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
24:32
You're, you're literally saying that to a bunch of people from Milwaukee. We are well aware of the stigma that NA gets you. [laughs] And it's bullshit- Right, right...
24:39
because there's some great NAs out there right now- Right... and I totally agree with you. Once in a while, I'm doing work around the house- Right... I want an NA. Uh, just so you can keep all your fingers. Yeah. Right.
24:49
I'm like, using power tools. [laughs] Cirk saws and stuff. No, I love it, man. Right on, right on. That is good to hear. Good news. All right, man. Uh, anything you wanna- Hey, so I wanted, uh-... drop on us?
25:02
I wanted to ask, I wanted to ask you guys, what do you, what do you think of my banana seat? What do you think of that shit? I think it's really cool. I- I saw the iterations.
25:10
I, uh, where- w- where is it finally ended up? Is this, like, the latest couple pictures is the final, the final deal?
25:17
Okay, the, the, the final one that you have w- that I think I sent you personally, uh, Sven, was, um, where I've reversed the shock tower, which is, uh, really a fork mount for a bike rack, um, so that it's turned around and it's in line with the shock angle to the eye holes on the banana seat.
25:38
And then, um, the entire thing, the parallelogrammar, the, the square is completed by, uh, stembults from quill stems, like 120 millimeters quill, quill stem bolts, you know what I mean? Sure, yeah.
25:50
That go all the way through the shocks on either side and the top and bottom. They make it so there's no lateral movement. Thing is stiff. It is not wiggling around up at the top at all, in the back. It's solid.
26:02
And I get about an inch of travel out of it realistically, but it's not gentle. Interesting. It, it's, it's not for mini bumps. It's just for, like, major impacts, which is kinda what I wanted out of it.
26:16
I, I w- I didn't need a bunch of suspension out of it, I just wanted it to take, take the edge off of any, uh, hard hits, and it works perfectly.
26:25
I love it so much, and the funny thing is is this is just the first iteration. I've got a complete separate, uh, banana seat that I'm custom-building right now that is gonna be 10 times the quality of this thing.
26:37
So I'm very excited. [laughs] It's, it's folks like you doing fun stuff like that that makes cycling interesting. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Thank you. Ooh. Oh, thank you very much.
26:51
I have, uh, I found a banana- Good to know... seat while packing my house up, and I'm excited to build a project around it, I'm not gonna lie. What are you gonna, gonna make some suspension?
26:59
To, uh, to, uh- No, I probably won't go that big, but I can see Daniel rocking a suspen- Bananas... a banana seat bike. Oh, there you go. To- Oh yeah, you still got a small kid...
27:07
to, to- I still have a four-year-old Yeah. Yeah... [sings] Bananas. Definitely, definitely build your own banana seat, like the padding on it.
27:14
I- if you're gonna ride a banana seat and you're really gonna, like, put miles on it, you gotta custom-build it, otherwise your ass is gonna be destroyed. He's four, dude. It's just not gonna work. Uh, i- it,
27:23
yeah, it's just bad. So just know that in advance. You need a solid steel banana seat pan that you can build off of.
27:31
Um, and just build it, learn it, wrap it, it'll get better and better and you'll be amazed at the quality of having a bench seat, 'cause you can move back and forth, change your position, change your leg length- Ride with a chick...
27:43
sometimes there's really cool things on it, but- Ride with a chick... yeah, yeah, you could throw a second person, right? Hell yes. Or dude, if that's your thing. Sorry, I threw that out there very sexistly.
27:54
[laughs] Yeah, like, uh, no, I, uh, Ro- Road Warrior, that one dude, the, the one crazy animal dude that was like, "Rah!" [laughs] He throws his top at his buddy.
28:02
His, his bro took the fucking boomerang to the forehead, right? Yep, yep. [sighs] Classic. Worth watching at least once a year, if not more often. Exactly, so yeah, hell yeah. It doesn't matter your choice. I've got you.
28:16
Jump on. And it's a great place to check out f- funky motorcycles too. True. Right, right. Maybe some ideas for bikes. So how, how are you guys, h- how are you guys doing? What, what's going on up there?
28:29
I mean, I know that it was kinda tight, little pinched, felt a little squeezed. Are you guys all right? Are you guys... What, well, what's up? We, we got an ass-ton of snow last Tuesday, well, being three inches.
28:42
[computer chimes] That was kinda weird. [laughs] Yeah, that's, I mean, as far as the shop goes, we're, we're moving forward. It's gonna be a winter thing of building and trying to see where we land next spring.
28:56
I mean, the whole, you know, the whole bike industry's pretty hosed right now in a lot of ways- Yeah... so- Yeah... we're kinda navigating that part. Yeah, yeah. But, uh, otherwise, uh, pretty decent.
29:05
We got a cool podcast studio at least. [laughs] Yeah. Cool building. Yeah. Cool building. There you go. Oh, um, uh, news, news flash just came through matter of seconds ago.
29:16
My p- my, uh, sale on my new bike fell through, and I'm, so I'm extra stoked. Thank God. [laughs] I did not wanna sell it. Oh, thank God. So you didn't sell the Le Mans after all? Thank God. Uh, no, no, no.
29:26
He backed out. He backed out. Thank God. [laughs] I was, I, I, when the money was there, I had to take it, but now it's not there, whoa. [laughs] Yeah. All right, well- Sorry, that's weird...
29:38
that's, uh- It's a weird reaction, but- Right? [laughs] You get to keep it. It's great. [laughs] All right, man, well, thank you very much for calling in this week. Yeah, thanks for having me, guys.
29:50
I love you guys, as always. Um, it's always a pleasure, uh, to chat with you. I'm not gonna really hype anything because they ain't giving me no hours right now, so hope you guys have a great time.
29:59
[laughs] And it's been great talking to you. Love you, and I'll talk to you later. All right, bye. All right, peace, Mark. Great seeing you, or hearing you. Okay, later. Ooh, I hear a phone. Thanks, Mark. Bye.
30:10
[laughs] That's a phone? That's my, uh, that's my shop phone. It's going, "Dee, dee, dee, dee, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo." Bat phone? Wow. All right, everybody, that's Mark Petersen from Ogden, Utah.
30:21
Sounds like pronghorns, uh, slowed down for the winter a little bit. Yeah, winter. Gotta get those fat bikes out there. Snowboards and skis too. Snowboards and skis.
30:29
Got the old Wasatch out that way to put your feet on some boards. All right, everyone, uh, that's gonna about do it for this week. Yeah. Thanks, Mark, for helping us fill the time.
30:38
For, for no other reason than we'll be at 2:29 next week, we'll, we'll see you then. Bam, bam, bam.
30:45
