- 0:01Speaker 1: Moto GP is ready to lock horns at the iconic
- 0:05Speaker 1: Red Bull Ring in the Austrian Mountains this weekend, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: we've got plenty to unpack ahead of the blockbuster in Spielberg.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Pit Talk has brought to.
- 0:13Speaker 1: You by Shannon's Insurance. I'm your host, Rinita Vanmulin, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: to help us get reped up for the return of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Racy is our very own Matt Clayton. Matt, we're going
- 0:23Speaker 1: to get straight into it with the hard question. So
- 0:27Speaker 1: my question to you is Peco going to remain the
- 0:30Speaker 1: king of the Red Bull Ring having been unbeaten here
- 0:33Speaker 1: since twenty twenty two? Whereas Mark Marquez going to break
- 0:37Speaker 1: his Austrian couract.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting, isn't it? By the way, nice use of
- 0:40Speaker 2: Spielberg blockbuster that won't be used at all by anybody
- 0:43Speaker 2: else for the rest of the weekend. Certainly not me.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'll probably get it in the first paragraph of every story,
- 0:47Speaker 2: all right, But say to.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Our listeners every time Matt Burt says it on the broadcast,
- 0:52Speaker 1: take a shot, like we always have our drinking games
- 0:54Speaker 1: over here.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You might not get to the end of well, you
- 0:56Speaker 2: might not get to the end of FP two at
- 0:57Speaker 2: that right, because Bat'll use it one hundred times as well.
- 0:59Speaker 2: But going back to your question, it's interesting, isn't it,
- 1:02Speaker 2: because we've had a couple of tracks this year that
- 1:04Speaker 2: we've been to where the past three years it's been
- 1:07Speaker 2: a Peco procession pretty much like Acid and Migello and
- 1:11Speaker 2: who's won those two races, Mirk Marquez. So it's funny,
- 1:14Speaker 2: isn't it that Mark's alongside Peco in the factory team.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We know that he's had some wins at tracks that
- 1:19Speaker 2: he hasn't won out for a while, but it almost
- 1:21Speaker 2: like he has some sort of special satisfaction of beating
- 1:25Speaker 2: at Peco tracks. It's almost become a thing this year.
- 1:28Speaker 2: What's really interesting about this was two things for me.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Since they changed the circuit layout back in twenty twenty two,
- 1:34Speaker 2: Peco Banna has not lost at the Red Bull Ring,
- 1:37Speaker 2: So that's interesting in terms of that run from the
- 1:40Speaker 2: first corner down to what was the second corner. We
- 1:43Speaker 2: know why it was changed after that absolutely terrifying Zarco
- 1:47Speaker 2: Morgadelli crash that year, which I had actually forgotten about
- 1:50Speaker 2: how severe that was until I was literally watching it
- 1:52Speaker 2: ten minutes before we started recording this podcast. And I
- 1:55Speaker 2: knew how it finished, and I still stood back from
- 1:56Speaker 2: the screen because it was pretty confronting. So they've changed
- 2:00Speaker 2: the track, put the chicane in there. Pecko's been unbeaten.
- 2:03Speaker 2: What's so strange about this? And I've got a story
- 2:06Speaker 2: for Fox Sports dot com dot AU that's going to
- 2:08Speaker 2: run probably late Wednesday early Thursday, Melbourne time. This is
- 2:13Speaker 2: the only track that's been on the calendar for the
- 2:15Speaker 2: majority of Mark's career where he's not won, And it's
- 2:19Speaker 2: so strange that someone with a CV that's so glittering
- 2:22Speaker 2: like his has this sort of kryptonite track, like he
- 2:25Speaker 2: can't win there. But there's context to this in that
- 2:29Speaker 2: normally when guys have bogie tracks, they are absolutely hopeless,
- 2:33Speaker 2: which you know, Jack Miller Magello comes to mind, and
- 2:35Speaker 2: Jack would agree with that. He was always like, I'd
- 2:37Speaker 2: even know why I buy the turning up half the time.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But the thing with Marquez and Austria, it's not that
- 2:41Speaker 2: he's been hopeless. There was a series of years there
- 2:44Speaker 2: where he couldn't have got much closer to actually getting
- 2:47Speaker 2: a win there but didn't. In that lakes that are
- 2:49Speaker 2: twenty seventeen through twenty nineteen period, so he's not slow there.
- 2:53Speaker 2: But it's so bizarre when you think about he's won
- 2:57Speaker 2: everywhere else, and he's won at some places. I mean,
- 2:59Speaker 2: he turns up at the Saxon ringing wins, he turns
- 3:01Speaker 2: up at Aragon and wins. Still hasn't managed to get
- 3:04Speaker 2: a win at this track. You look at the track
- 3:06Speaker 2: map on a piece of paper and you're like, huh,
- 3:08Speaker 2: that doesn't look super complicated, does it. So it's a
- 3:11Speaker 2: really strange rude and that somewhat of Mark's talent hasn't
- 3:13Speaker 2: been able to master the Red Bull Ring. But I
- 3:16Speaker 2: think a lot of that might be due to the
- 3:17Speaker 2: fact that he wrote a hondo for a lot of
- 3:19Speaker 2: his time there. And also just that circuit layout. There's
- 3:23Speaker 2: only two reasonable speed left handed corners on the entire track,
- 3:27Speaker 2: and we know that Mark Love's a fast left handed
- 3:29Speaker 2: corner and so this track layer, as simple as it
- 3:31Speaker 2: looks on paper, is not a Marquees layout. You add
- 3:34Speaker 2: all those things together and that's why there's a big
- 3:36Speaker 2: fat zero in the win column.
- 3:38Speaker 1: It's hard, though, not to think of the Red Bull
- 3:40Speaker 1: Ring and think backsho those iconic last lap overtakes, last
- 3:44Speaker 1: corner overtakes, that do include Mark though, so oh yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Dobby and Mark, jorhe Lorenzo and Mark where I think
- 3:50Speaker 1: they touched on the straight. Like, there's all these iconic
- 3:53Speaker 1: things that Mark Mark has has been at, but then
- 3:55Speaker 1: to hear you say it's his bogey track, it just
- 3:58Speaker 1: doesn't make sense.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's funny that every time he's been in a last
- 4:01Speaker 2: lap fight at this track, he's the one that's ended
- 4:04Speaker 2: up with the bloody dose and not the winner's trophy,
- 4:06Speaker 2: which is just not what you would expect from Mark.
- 4:08Speaker 2: The two Davizioso years twenty seventeen and twenty nineteen, you
- 4:12Speaker 2: as one of those you remember watching it in the
- 4:14Speaker 2: moment because it was so good. It had built up
- 4:17Speaker 2: for a number of laps and you knew you were
- 4:19Speaker 2: going to get this last lap show down and Davizioso.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Funnily enough, for a guy who Mark beat for championships
- 4:25Speaker 2: for a lot of those years in the Decadion Honda
- 4:28Speaker 2: rivalry there when it came to last lap battles, Dobby
- 4:31Speaker 2: was actually really good against Mark in last lap battles
- 4:34Speaker 2: if he could stay with him to be in a
- 4:35Speaker 2: last lab battle. There are obviously loads of races where
- 4:38Speaker 2: Mark was cleared off, but it got to the point
- 4:40Speaker 2: that if those two were in a last lap battle,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you'd almost put your money on Dobby to win it.
- 4:44Speaker 2: He was just really good in those elbow to elbow fights.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But twenty seventeen and twenty nineteen, the last lap of
- 4:50Speaker 2: those two, for anyone listening or for you as well,
- 4:53Speaker 2: go back and watch the last lap of each of
- 4:54Speaker 2: those races, because you know how they finished. But it's
- 4:56Speaker 2: still awesome motorsport and just the camera work where they
- 5:01Speaker 2: go to the reactions of the two garages who know
- 5:03Speaker 2: they've just seen something really really special. Even though somebody's
- 5:06Speaker 2: happy and somebody's not happy, it's awesome, awesome TV. And
- 5:10Speaker 2: it's just something about this track and this layout that
- 5:13Speaker 2: does serve up a number of last lap classics. The
- 5:16Speaker 2: other one there that doesn't involve marquees that I always
- 5:18Speaker 2: think of is Miguel Olivera's win in the first of
- 5:21Speaker 2: the COVID races in twenty twenty, because until the last
- 5:24Speaker 2: corner of that race, it looked like Jack Billa was
- 5:26Speaker 2: going to win. It was the Miller Polos Bargo fight,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and then Miguel Olivera does the Stephen Bradbury comes through
- 5:32Speaker 2: the last order with the race.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You're just talking about these We've posted them on the
- 5:36Speaker 1: Fox Motorsports Socials leaders so if you want to go
- 5:39Speaker 1: back and see what we're talking about, they're coming up
- 5:41Speaker 1: in the build up to the Austrian Grand Prix. But
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know you mentioned that Miguel Olivera is also Rebel
- 5:47Speaker 1: KTM's home Grand Prix and Brad Binder had that fantastic
- 5:51Speaker 1: victory where he won on slicks.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah crazy at.
- 5:55Speaker 1: The Red Bull Rings, So you know you're talking about
- 5:56Speaker 1: the characteristics of the circuit there. It's one of the
- 5:59Speaker 1: hardest taking circuits on the calendar. But then he's then
- 6:03Speaker 1: won a rumpri on on a wet track on slicks, and.
- 6:06Speaker 2: It just shows you what we've got to look forward
- 6:07Speaker 2: to this weekend because last year Banyay just cleared off
- 6:10Speaker 2: and the only real intrigue in that race was that
- 6:13Speaker 2: Mark Markez had dropped way down the order at the
- 6:15Speaker 2: first corner and managed to rampage his way back through
- 6:17Speaker 2: to get to fourth at least. But we've talked about
- 6:20Speaker 2: so many of these great races. It's a track that
- 6:23Speaker 2: just throws up really really interesting motor GP races that
- 6:26Speaker 2: you go back when I was doing some research for
- 6:28Speaker 2: a story earlier this week. You remember that this used
- 6:31Speaker 2: to be the one track where Ducaddi was good, and
- 6:33Speaker 2: it wasn't very good at all the other tracks. And
- 6:36Speaker 2: you remember Andrea, you know, Oni won the first Ducaddi race,
- 6:39Speaker 2: not one by Casey Stoner. It was five years between
- 6:42Speaker 2: races race winds for Ducaddi. These days ago about five
- 6:45Speaker 2: days between race winds. So to think that the Caddy
- 6:47Speaker 2: had been the wilderness for all this time, it was
- 6:49Speaker 2: the one track where their bike worked. But there's just
- 6:52Speaker 2: so many year on year you go back through the
- 6:55Speaker 2: races here and you know eighty five ninety percent of
- 6:58Speaker 2: them have been fantastic to And it's just something about
- 7:01Speaker 2: the layout. It's in a really compact area, so it
- 7:04Speaker 2: feels like the fans are right on top of it,
- 7:06Speaker 2: like it's a real amphitheater, a bowl of fans, huge noise,
- 7:10Speaker 2: looks amazing on TV, incredible picturesque bac drop. It's just
- 7:13Speaker 2: got all the ingredients you want for a really, really
- 7:16Speaker 2: fun Grand Paris. So hopefully that's what we get on Sunday.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Well, I was looking at the weather for this weekend
- 7:22Speaker 1: is potential rain Saturday and Sunday around the time of
- 7:26Speaker 1: both the Sprint and the Grand Prix, so fingers crossed.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That does make for that exciting racing that we've been
- 7:32Speaker 1: talking about. But we've mentioned Mark, we've mentioned Peco, Alex
- 7:36Speaker 1: Marquez returning from are going to say that injury, but
- 7:39Speaker 1: just a reminder he does have that long lap penalty
- 7:41Speaker 1: for Sunday's main Grandery as well, so I know a
- 7:45Speaker 1: long lap around here can really affect your whole race.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Before we wrap up the preview for Austria, that's the
- 7:53Speaker 1: top three in our championship, Matt, who's going to be
- 7:55Speaker 1: your top three on the podium this weekend.
- 7:59Speaker 2: It's interesting. I'm I'm really curious to see what KTM
- 8:02Speaker 2: do here because this is the home track and we
- 8:04Speaker 2: know that it's the Red Bull Ring. The bikes are
- 8:06Speaker 2: plastered with Red Bull logos. There's a lot of pressure
- 8:09Speaker 2: and expectation here. Jack Miller used to talk about this
- 8:12Speaker 2: a lot when he was riding for KTM, and then
- 8:14Speaker 2: even when he was a Red Bull athlete. This will
- 8:16Speaker 2: be the first Austrian GP in a really long time
- 8:18Speaker 2: that he's not been a Red Bull athlete. So be
- 8:20Speaker 2: curious to see how his weekend pans out. But there's
- 8:23Speaker 2: a lot of pressure and a lot of expectation on
- 8:25Speaker 2: the KTM riders. We know that Maverick Vinalees is going
- 8:27Speaker 2: to be back after missing the Czech Republic, so that's
- 8:29Speaker 2: good for them, but it's been quite a difficult year
- 8:33Speaker 2: for them. We know they had a lot of off
- 8:34Speaker 2: season financial troubles and a lot of development of the
- 8:36Speaker 2: bike was pretty stalled. Vinale has had that one very
- 8:40Speaker 2: Maverick Vinalees like cameo in Doha when he was right
- 8:42Speaker 2: up the front, and he's been probably the best of
- 8:45Speaker 2: the four of them pace wise in the second half
- 8:47Speaker 2: of this first half of the season. But you'd have
- 8:50Speaker 2: to say the bast you need anything hasn't really worked
- 8:52Speaker 2: out with KTM so far. Brad Binder, who you mentioned
- 8:56Speaker 2: him before, winning the race here in the rain, but
- 8:58Speaker 2: we've barely seen Brad towards the front all year, which
- 9:01Speaker 2: is so unusual for him because he's just missed a
- 9:03Speaker 2: consistency sort of you know, fifth six in the championship
- 9:06Speaker 2: all the time. So a lot of expectations there and
- 9:08Speaker 2: I think we know their financial footing is a bit
- 9:10Speaker 2: stronger now because of the investment in the company from
- 9:13Speaker 2: Beijaj in India, and things are looking a little bit
- 9:16Speaker 2: better now. But it's not just a case of the
- 9:18Speaker 2: financial tap being turned on and you get back to
- 9:20Speaker 2: where you were, you know, standing still in motor GP
- 9:23Speaker 2: is going backwards, let's be honest. And they've spent the
- 9:26Speaker 2: first half of this year kind of just treading water. Really,
- 9:29Speaker 2: they haven't really gone anywhere. Aprilly has clearly gone past them.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think they are Prillius pretty easily the second best
- 9:34Speaker 2: bike and Mooto GP. Now KTM have perhaps been flattered
- 9:37Speaker 2: a bit by the fact that, yeah, Hondra and Yamahar
- 9:40Speaker 2: are better than they have been, but they're still not
- 9:43Speaker 2: quite at that level despite Fabio Quatroro's pole positions, and
- 9:47Speaker 2: Honda has won a race of course that was pretty
- 9:48Speaker 2: exceptional circumstances. So a lot of pressure on KTM. And
- 9:53Speaker 2: the curious one for me is Pedro Costa in that
- 9:57Speaker 2: we know that he is impatient at the best of times,
- 10:02Speaker 2: he's been pretty restless this year. There's been a lot
- 10:04Speaker 2: of talk is he flirting with Decadie, Does he want
- 10:06Speaker 2: to go to Honda? Where does he want to go.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I saw something in the last couple of days where
- 10:10Speaker 2: he is recommitted, apparently to Katie m like he's very
- 10:13Speaker 2: you know, he wants to win with them, and I'm
- 10:16Speaker 2: committed to the project and so on and so forth.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Now Pedro Costa is likely to change his mind by
- 10:20Speaker 2: the end time I finished this sentence. So he's pretty impulsive,
- 10:24Speaker 2: but he is now he is the leading writer, but
- 10:26Speaker 2: I don't think he's the leader, if that makes sense
- 10:29Speaker 2: of that writer quartet. I'll be curious to see how
- 10:32Speaker 2: he handles Austria, because you'd have to say last year
- 10:35Speaker 2: his first appearance for Katim in Motor GP at the
- 10:38Speaker 2: Red Bull Ring, he just spent most of the weekend
- 10:41Speaker 2: falling off and amazingly not hurting himself. There are a
- 10:45Speaker 2: couple of those crashes that he had last year, particularly
- 10:47Speaker 2: the Friday practice crashes. I still have no idea how
- 10:50Speaker 2: he got up from the one down. It's turn forth.
- 10:52Speaker 2: That's terrifying.
- 10:54Speaker 1: If you don't know what Matt's talking about here, and
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought it up, because that's something I
- 10:58Speaker 1: wanted to discuss, is how howur manor GP writer can
- 11:01Speaker 1: have a crash like that. And I'm going to butcher
- 11:03Speaker 1: my explanation here, but just so you guys are understanding,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I believe the tires were cold. We found out afterwards.
- 11:08Speaker 1: He has come in tucked the front as he's heading
- 11:11Speaker 1: down the hill, but the bike slidden off the track,
- 11:14Speaker 1: so has he, and thankfully there was no riders around
- 11:17Speaker 1: him because he was in a practice session. That both
- 11:20Speaker 1: he and the bike and then slidden back to the
- 11:22Speaker 1: left over the track once again, and it's going continue downhill.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It just seems like the Rebel ring does give these
- 11:29Speaker 1: massive crashes, like you spoke about the one with mor
- 11:32Speaker 1: Bedelli and Zako, this one with Pedro last year gives
- 11:35Speaker 1: us great racing. Bit does give us big crashes. And
- 11:39Speaker 1: I don't know how you can come back to a
- 11:41Speaker 1: circuit like this when there's that like playing on your mind.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's a function of the layout in
- 11:46Speaker 2: that it's effectively it's just long straights into slow corners.
- 11:49Speaker 2: You look at the first, first corner, third corner, the
- 11:51Speaker 2: fourth corner, even the last sector of the lap. There's
- 11:54Speaker 2: really only that bit in the middle where the two
- 11:56Speaker 2: left handers a hook into each other. The one good
- 11:59Speaker 2: bit from Mark buck as as I mentioned before, it's
- 12:02Speaker 2: a car racing track. Let's be honest, and we know
- 12:04Speaker 2: the amount of money that Red Bulls tipped into that
- 12:06Speaker 2: circuit to get it back up to speed. A lot
- 12:08Speaker 2: of people listening to this won't realize that Murder GP
- 12:11Speaker 2: actually raced here for two years in the nineteen nineties
- 12:14Speaker 2: before it was off the calendar. It was called the
- 12:15Speaker 2: A one Ring at the times before Red bull bought
- 12:17Speaker 2: it and then it sort of fell into disrepair. But
- 12:19Speaker 2: it is a car racing track. It's an abbreviated form
- 12:23Speaker 2: of the old Austria F one GP circuit from the
- 12:26Speaker 2: sixties and seventies, the austraich Ring, which you can still
- 12:28Speaker 2: actually see when they show the helly shot above the circuit.
- 12:31Speaker 2: You can still see the old circuit heading off into
- 12:33Speaker 2: the trees there. But it's a bit on the edge
- 12:36Speaker 2: for motor GP. Some of these walls are a little
- 12:38Speaker 2: bit close. That was why the chicane was put in
- 12:40Speaker 2: between turn one and what is now turned three at
- 12:42Speaker 2: the top of the hill. I don't like it's a
- 12:45Speaker 2: bit clunky as a solution, but it's safer. I think
- 12:49Speaker 2: it just makes that entry speed into turn three a
- 12:51Speaker 2: little bit less but it is a bit on the
- 12:53Speaker 2: edge and it's you know, it's a hard stop, big
- 12:55Speaker 2: breaking track, so you'd see a very different race here.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It's not unlike any other track on the calendar. I'm
- 13:02Speaker 2: glad we don't have twenty two of them, but I'm
- 13:04Speaker 2: glad we have this one because it is a point
- 13:06Speaker 2: of difference relative to so many of the other tracks
- 13:08Speaker 2: we go to.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Last year's pulsitter was Joge Martin, our reigning world champion.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Now we know that he's come back from the Czech
- 13:16Speaker 1: Grand Prix, taken the summer break, and now returning hopefully
- 13:20Speaker 1: for the rest of twenty twenty five as a full
- 13:23Speaker 1: season brighter. What's your thoughts on Martine coming back here,
- 13:27Speaker 1: because we're talking about the characteristics and how different this
- 13:30Speaker 1: track is. How do you think he's going to go
- 13:32Speaker 1: on the Aprilia.
- 13:33Speaker 2: It's interesting he'll be fit. I know that if you've
- 13:35Speaker 2: been following Jorjey on social media over the break, he's
- 13:38Speaker 2: not had much of a break. I figured he's had
- 13:39Speaker 2: enough time out of the saddle. The amount of cycling
- 13:41Speaker 2: that guy's been doing. I think he'll be getting on
- 13:43Speaker 2: a motor GP bike for a rest. Basically, after the
- 13:45Speaker 2: past three weeks. But I'm curious with Martin. I think
- 13:49Speaker 2: that we know the guy's quality, right and we know
- 13:52Speaker 2: that that bike is pretty clearly the second best bike
- 13:55Speaker 2: on the grid right now. Marco Bizeki's having a really
- 13:59Speaker 2: you know, the second quarter of his season, youonce, has
- 14:02Speaker 2: been incredibly good, like really really impressive one at Silveston,
- 14:05Speaker 2: many many podiums. I don't think anyone's ever looked at
- 14:08Speaker 2: Marco Vetzeki and Joge Martin and said that A is
- 14:11Speaker 2: better than B. And we know the ceiling for Martin,
- 14:14Speaker 2: he won the World Championship last year, so I'm almost wondering, Yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 2: Polsita last year, hand on heart, he'd probably like this
- 14:21Speaker 2: Grand Prix to be about two or three races time,
- 14:23Speaker 2: you know, and he's a bit more ready, and he's
- 14:25Speaker 2: got a bit more runs on the board in that
- 14:27Speaker 2: he'll be a lot more prepared than he was for Bruno.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Clearly he's got all of the awkwardness with the team
- 14:34Speaker 2: and the cobwebs, like all that's gone now. But the
- 14:37Speaker 2: only way to be race fit is to get rid
- 14:40Speaker 2: of the race rust, and he hasn't had a chance
- 14:41Speaker 2: to do that yet. What's interesting for me is I mean,
- 14:45Speaker 2: we know there's ten rounds to go. There's ten rounds
- 14:47Speaker 2: in fourteen weekends, like two doubleheader break, doubleheader break, that
- 14:51Speaker 2: goes all the way until we get to Valencia. So
- 14:53Speaker 2: two things here, won you and I don't get to
- 14:55Speaker 2: sleep for the next fourteen weeks? Two. I think the
- 14:58Speaker 2: longer we get into this, particularly when we head to
- 15:00Speaker 2: the Flyaways, I think, all, hey, Martin's almost going to
- 15:03Speaker 2: be one hundred percent up to speed. He'll know the Aprillier.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I could see him winning race for the end of
- 15:09Speaker 2: this year, and a lot of people are saying, could
- 15:10Speaker 2: he get on the podium. I think there's more to
- 15:12Speaker 2: offer for Martine than that, and won't that be an
- 15:16Speaker 2: interesting storyline to follow because he still sounds like I'm
- 15:20Speaker 2: sort of in with a prilier. I'm sort of a
- 15:22Speaker 2: little bit off the fence, but I'm still slightly on
- 15:24Speaker 2: the fence. Do I want to stay? Do I not
- 15:26Speaker 2: want to stay? Can you imagine what's throwing a race
- 15:29Speaker 2: win into the mix for that team where he's tried
- 15:33Speaker 2: to leave and he's come back and he's had this
- 15:34Speaker 2: terrible championship defense that never got off the ground. How
- 15:38Speaker 2: much would a win change the equation for him and
- 15:40Speaker 2: what a prillier think they might be able to do.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Because we know how good the guy is, right, that's
- 15:46Speaker 2: not a question. We also know how restless and impulsive
- 15:49Speaker 2: he can be. But if you add twenty five points
- 15:51Speaker 2: on a Sunday into the mix there, that might just
- 15:53Speaker 2: change things. So in terms of you know, this is
- 15:56Speaker 2: what we do here. We cheer for the narrative. We
- 15:57Speaker 2: don't care who wins. Necessarily, we chief good stories in
- 16:00Speaker 2: good racing. That's what we're here for. A Joge Martein
- 16:03Speaker 2: win before the end of this year, given what's happened
- 16:06Speaker 2: between March and now, wouldn't that be a fun story.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Well, you've got that story as the comeback kid, and
- 16:12Speaker 1: then you think Mark Marquez winning the championship this year
- 16:15Speaker 1: as the comeback king from his injuries as well. And
- 16:19Speaker 1: like you said, that's what we love about Moto GP.
- 16:22Speaker 1: But Matt, you dodged my questions. So I'm going to
- 16:23Speaker 1: ask you once more, who's going to stand on top
- 16:26Speaker 1: of the podium on Sunday? Who's your race winner?
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah? I did dodge a question, didn't I I'm going
- 16:31Speaker 2: to say Chakra. I'm actually going to say Mark Marquez
- 16:34Speaker 2: is going to win simply because this is the year
- 16:37Speaker 2: where Mark wins attracks that he doesn't usually win. And
- 16:40Speaker 2: so you look at Qatar, first time in eleven years
- 16:43Speaker 2: one there, Magiello, first time in eleven years one. There, Ascent,
- 16:46Speaker 2: first time in eight years one there, red bull Ring,
- 16:49Speaker 2: first time in ever. He's going to win there because
- 16:52Speaker 2: you forget that that circuit came on the calendar in
- 16:55Speaker 2: twenty sixteen, so he never got to race Moto three
- 16:57Speaker 2: Motor two there, so it was three years after he
- 17:00Speaker 2: began in twenty thirteen. So he's never won there on anything.
- 17:03Speaker 2: But I think this Sunday is going to be the
- 17:05Speaker 2: first time simply because Mark loves having a little external
- 17:09Speaker 2: motivator and he'll know the stats and you know what
- 17:12Speaker 2: will happen. He will sit in the pre race press
- 17:14Speaker 2: conference and say, oh, you know my record, he is
- 17:16Speaker 2: not great, Pecko's been fantastic here and I haven't done
- 17:19Speaker 2: anything here and I've got lots to prove and so
- 17:21Speaker 2: on and so forth. He loves this sort of stuff
- 17:23Speaker 2: where he gets a chance to prove other people wrong,
- 17:28Speaker 2: to rewrite some history and to it's almost more sold
- 17:31Speaker 2: destroying for the opposition where he wins at tracks where
- 17:33Speaker 2: he shouldn't, because if you're the opposition, you're like, all right,
- 17:36Speaker 2: here we go, We've got him. He's on a week track.
- 17:38Speaker 2: We can actually get in there this weekend. And then
- 17:40Speaker 2: when he goes and wins at Guitar or he goes
- 17:42Speaker 2: and wins at Magello, it's so deflating. And the fact
- 17:46Speaker 2: that Pecko's won the last three in a row there,
- 17:49Speaker 2: Mark's not not a verse to plague a few psychological games,
- 17:53Speaker 2: and I think this is the year he finally snaps
- 17:56Speaker 2: this streak, because it's a streak that it would be
- 17:58Speaker 2: a little bit ridiculous if someone of his quality through
- 18:00Speaker 2: any tite mooto GP career without winning it a particular track.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And surely, surely this year is the you.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I just love that you brought up the little mind
- 18:09Speaker 1: games that Mark plays, because if if Liftner's listeners, if
- 18:12Speaker 1: you do get a chance to watch the press conferences
- 18:14Speaker 1: or even just little snippets in u GCC, Mark, like
- 18:16Speaker 1: Matt was just saying there where he's like, no, this
- 18:19Speaker 1: is my good track. Peco's really strong here. But you
- 18:23Speaker 1: just know because it's Mark Marquez and you're back to
- 18:26Speaker 1: what I said before, This is just what makes Moto
- 18:28Speaker 1: GP so exciting at the moment. Yes, Mark's going to
- 18:30Speaker 1: win the championship, but there's all these little stories happening
- 18:34Speaker 1: left right in the center, and that's why we love it.
- 18:36Speaker 1: But do go and read Matt's article that he is
- 18:39Speaker 1: talking about here about Mark Marquez and Austria being his
- 18:42Speaker 1: bogie track. So you can catch that and all of
