- 1:54lemon.
- 1:56It's nice and cool, refreshing.
- 1:58The lemon really hits the spot.
- 2:01I was at a restaurant today, and you
- 2:03guys know I don't do soda, so I
- 2:04had some water, all ice cold water, and
- 2:06I took a little bit of lemonade, some
- 2:08pink lemonade, just enough, I would say like
- 2:10a jigger or two of it roughly, and
- 2:12that gave the water a little flavor.
- 2:14So all right, guys, it is so great
- 2:17to be with everyone here.

- 2:39your future, because ladies and gentlemen, it does.
- 2:40Series 5, show number 26.
- 2:44Today's episode is number 7, How to Align
- 2:48Your Life.
- 2:50Series 5, show 26, episode 7.
- 2:52And our theme is everything should point in
- 2:56one direction.
- 2:57I know a lot of times people get
- 3:00confused because they're trying to do something, but
- 3:03then they don't understand it.
- 3:04And because they don't understand it, they just
- 3:06basically get stuck, or they wind up going
- 3:11backwards.
- 3:12So welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 3:15I am John C.
- 3:17Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 3:24podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 3:29Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and so
- 3:34grateful now, ladies and gentlemen, to be now
- 3:36a published author.
- 3:39Today we close this week with integration, not
- 3:44addition, not subtraction, but alignment.
- 3:50Because when everything in your life begins to
- 3:54point in the same direction, everything changes.
- 4:00This reminds me of something Dr. Dwayne Dyer
- 4:04shared with us many years ago, rest his
- 4:05soul.
- 4:07He learned from Petangelis, his master, and he
- 4:11said, when we change the way we look
- 4:12at things, the things we look at change.
- 4:14When we change the way we look at
- 4:15things, the things we look at change.
- 4:16When we change the way we look at
- 4:16things, the things we look at change, similar
- 4:18fashion.
- 4:20Our core message here is most people are
- 4:22not stuck because they lack effort.
- 4:24No, they become stuck because their energy is
- 4:31divided.
- 4:32Their habits say one thing, their goals, well,
- 4:36they say another.
- 4:38Their environment pulls them in another direction.
- 4:42Alignment is the solution.
- 4:45Alignment creates unity across your entire system.
- 4:50And that's hard for a lot of people
- 4:51to understand, but what I've found is that
- 4:52when you become in alignment, things get easier,
- 4:57but you actually open up hidden doorways, right?
- 5:02You see things, they were always there, but
- 5:05you weren't really paying attention to them.
- 5:07Number one, alignment creates momentum across every area
- 5:11of your life.
- 5:12When everything moves together, progress accelerates.
- 5:17Number two, when things align, life feels easier,
- 5:22like naturally.
- 5:25Yeah, it feels that way naturally.
- 5:28I think that's another one of those things
- 5:30that a lot of people I think don't
- 5:32realize that when something happens naturally, it goes
- 5:36with the flow.
- 5:38Resistance decreases when systems match direction.
- 5:41When we go in the direction of the
- 5:44flow, there's literally no resistance.
- 5:48Number three, stop working against your own goals.
- 5:54So many people do this every day, and
- 5:55they don't even know they're doing it.
- 5:57Internal conflict slows everything down.
- 6:01Number four, your habits must match your long
- 6:04-term vision.
- 6:06Daily behavior defines future outcomes.
- 6:10What you're thinking about now affects tomorrow.
- 6:14Number five, your circle should support your direction.
- 6:19Not somebody else's direction, your direction.
- 6:22Environment determines the momentum that you move at.
- 6:26Number six, your time should reflect your true
- 6:28priorities.
- 6:30Time reveals what you value.
- 6:33Number seven, misalignment creates unnecessary stress.
- 6:37Confusion is often structural, not emotional.
- 6:41People try to make it emotional, and then
- 6:45they don't get the right answers.
- 6:48They get frustrated.
- 6:50They sometimes damage relationships, all because they don't
- 6:55understand.
- 6:57They don't realize that they're looking at it
- 6:59the wrong way.
- 7:02They're looking at it the wrong way, and
- 7:04I think that's a very, very big problem.
- 7:07If something is misaligned, it must be corrected.
- 7:13Small adjustments create major clarity.
- 7:17Small, micro adjustments, not huge adjustments.
- 7:20Number nine, clarity is the foundation.
- 7:25It's the building blocks of alignment.
- 7:31Without clarity, guys, direction just sort of ceases.
- 7:35It breaks.
- 7:36It stops.
- 7:37Number 10, alignment reduces internal resistance.
- 7:41When we're in alignment, our path opens up
- 7:47before us.
- 7:48Less friction means smoother execution.
- 7:54That's an interesting way to think about it.
- 7:57Number 11, you move faster when systems are
- 7:59unified.
- 8:02But sometimes getting things unified, well, that could
- 8:05be a real act.
- 8:06Right?
- 8:09Fragmentation slows progress.
- 8:16Disjointed efforts is basically what it is.
- 8:20Number 12, saying no creates alignment, guys, because
- 8:24when you say no, you're saying yes to
- 8:26yourself.
- 8:27Every no protects your direction.
- 8:30Learn to say it.
- 8:31You can say it respectfully.
- 8:33No.
- 8:34I appreciate you asking me, and I'm flattered.
- 8:37Right now, I have a lot on my
- 8:39plate, so I'm going to pass.
- 8:42Oh, John, you can't do it right now.
- 8:46There's a lot on my plate, and I'm
- 8:48going to have to say no.
- 8:50I want to say yes, but I have
- 8:52to say no.
- 8:53Oh, I understand.
- 8:55But you don't get those people trying to
- 8:56push you.
- 8:56Oh, come on, come on, come on.
- 8:58And those people are actually not doing the
- 9:02best for you.
- 9:03They're trying to do what's best for them.
- 9:06Number 13, a cohesive life produces stronger outcomes.
- 9:13Disconnected effort weakens the results.
- 9:18We're disconnected.
- 9:19We don't have the connection.
- 9:25We're not taking the information we learned from
- 9:28one thing to another.
- 9:29We're just sort of just doing things, but
- 9:33not really looking at feedback.
- 9:35Number 14, guys, stop splitting your attention across
- 9:41competing priorities.
- 9:44How many companies do you know?
- 9:46Well, we've got a chat system, but we've
- 9:47got lots of people on the chat system,
- 9:49and you've got to handle all the people
- 9:52at one time.
- 9:53That's insane.
- 9:55Focus requires consolidation.
- 9:59It does.
- 10:01Number 15, focus naturally creates alignment.
- 10:07Attention determines structure.
- 10:12If you've got good attention, guys, you're going
- 10:15to have good structure.
- 10:17I mean, that's just a, that's like a
- 10:18hands down, right?
- 10:20A hands down, if you've got good structure.
- 10:25I say you need two things for success,
- 10:26ladies and gentlemen.
- 10:27We keep going back to this.
- 10:30Consistency, right?
- 10:32And structure.
- 10:33You cannot be successful without a structure and
- 10:37without doing consistently.
- 10:39Number 16, guys, alignment.
- 10:43It builds confidence over time, not overnight.
- 10:50Consistency reinforces belief.
- 10:54When a belief is reinforced, it releases dopamine
- 10:59in our brain.
- 11:03It gives us a natural high that makes
- 11:05us want to do something.
- 11:08Because we feel so good about it.
- 11:16We feel so good about it.
- 11:17Number 17, everything in your life should support
- 11:22your direction.
- 11:25Not somebody else's direction, your direction.
- 11:30Your direction.
- 11:34Support systems determine success.
- 11:40And a support system is not built overnight,
- 11:42guys.
- 11:43It takes time.
- 11:45It takes time.
- 11:47Number 18, your actions always reveal your priorities.
- 11:55Your actions reveal your priorities.
- 11:58So what you think about is what you
- 12:01bring about.
- 12:03What you do, what you take action toward
- 12:06is what's important to you.
- 12:10What's in alignment with, we've said it before,
- 12:12guys, your core values.
- 12:15You do things day in and day out
- 12:18that are reflective of your core values.
- 12:26That's a wild thing, but it's the truth.
- 12:31Your core values get you to act or
- 12:36not act.
- 12:40If you suddenly don't act, you've probably figured
- 12:44out that this is not in direct alignment
- 12:49with my core values.
- 12:50Nothing wrong with that.
- 12:52But don't try to make it fit.
- 12:54Don't put a square peg in a round
- 12:56hole.
- 12:57Square pegs go in square holes.
- 12:59Round pegs go in round holes.
- 13:00Don't try to force them because that's when
- 13:03you have problems.
- 13:04That's when you're not going to get flow.
- 13:07That's when you're going to get resistance, right?
- 13:10What happens when we take, I'll give you
- 13:14a perfect example.
- 13:15I had a customer the other day, a
- 13:17client that had a cartridge.
- 13:21And, well, they bought one of these cheap
- 13:23cartridges, unfortunately.
- 13:24And they bought the kind where they buy
- 13:27three cartridges for like $99 instead of it
- 13:30being $130 a cartridge.
- 13:33They bought three cartridges for $99.
- 13:36I said, oh, gee, that's a great value,
- 13:38right?
- 13:39Sounds like a great value.
- 13:41$99 divided by three, $33.
- 13:46But those cartridges were not in alignment with
- 13:48the printer.
- 13:49Because as soon as the person put them
- 13:51in the printer, tried to pull them out
- 13:54or realign, they got stuck.
- 13:58And then they wound up basically breaking the
- 14:01whole paper path mechanism.
- 14:04And it was just cheaper to throw the
- 14:05printer away.
- 14:08So when you do things that are not
- 14:10in alignment or for the greater good of
- 14:12all concern, it's going to cause you to
- 14:18take a turn that you may not like.
- 14:21It's going to cost you money.
- 14:24It's going to use up resources.
- 14:25And resources, ladies and gentlemen, could be people,
- 14:28things, right?
- 14:32Emotions, money.
- 14:36I mean, that's really the truth of it,
- 14:40guys.
- 14:41So this is important to understand.
- 14:45Behavior never lies.
- 14:48As much as you think it's trying to
- 14:50trick you, it's actually trying to say, hey,
- 14:53wake up.
- 14:54You're not on the right track.
- 14:57Wake up.
- 14:58You're on the wrong track.
- 14:59You're in the wrong lane.
- 15:01What happens on the highway if your car
- 15:05starts to go over the lane?
- 15:07Somebody's going to hit the horn at you.
- 15:10True story.
- 15:11Client of mine, his son was traveling down
- 15:18toward Princeton.
- 15:21And basically about three or four weeks ago,
- 15:24he went over the yellow line.
- 15:29And when he went over the yellow line,
- 15:31he got into a very bad accident.
- 15:33The whole left part of his body got
- 15:37damaged.
- 15:38Lots of surgery.
- 15:39He was unconscious.
- 15:43His car was not in alignment with the
- 15:45lane.
- 15:47If it was, there would have been no
- 15:49issue.
- 15:49You see, when we stay in our paths,
- 15:53we create alignment.
- 15:56Sometimes we go out of a path.
- 16:01But we got to be in alignment with
- 16:02our principles.
- 16:04For if we don't do that, we disappoint
- 16:07not only ourselves but others.
- 16:09And we also can lose respect and damage
- 16:13that reputation that we took years to build.
- 16:17You can destroy the reputation, guys, in a
- 16:21fraction of a second.
- 16:24Damage it in a fraction of a second.
- 16:27Take years, weeks, months, years to build.
- 16:31And then you just destroy it like that.
- 16:36Number 19, guys.
- 16:38Contradictions must be eliminated.
- 16:40Conflicting behavior blocks progress.
- 16:44If you didn't know that, let's think about
- 16:48tug of war.
- 16:49If I'm trying to tug one way, you're
- 16:51trying to tug the other, we're going to
- 16:52cancel each other out.
- 16:55What happens if you have a positive number?
- 16:58Let's say it's 100.
- 16:59What happens if you add a negative number?
- 17:02It cancels itself out.
- 17:05So there is no 100.
- 17:06If you have a negative, you add a
- 17:07positive, it cancels itself out.
- 17:13When we're on one track and we're moving
- 17:16in that direction, and it is for the
- 17:20greater good of all concerned, we will succeed.
- 17:24Now, sometimes we'll succeed anyway if it's not
- 17:26for the greater good.
- 17:28But down the road, we're going to pay
- 17:30a price.
- 17:34The whole thing today is about being accountable
- 17:36for what you do.
- 17:38Number 20, guys.
- 17:42Intentional living.
- 17:45You've heard that word thrown around before, that
- 17:47buzzword.
- 18:06Randomness, on the other hand, guys, reduces control.
- 18:12Randomness reduces control.
- 18:14And when it reduces control, we get into
- 18:17a state, ladies and gentlemen, of what?
- 18:18We get into a state of chaos, okay?
- 18:23We get in a state of chaos.
- 18:25Number 21, designing your days creates stability.
- 18:33We said before, if you fail to plan,
- 18:35you have planned to fail.
- 18:38Structure removes chaos.
- 18:42When we are clear, we remove chaos.
- 18:51Clarity is a real big asset.
- 18:57Number 22, if we choose to live on
- 19:01purpose, our clarity will improve, if we intentionally
- 19:09live on purpose.
- 19:14And purpose organizes, ladies and gentlemen, behavior.
- 19:21Purpose gives a structure to the meaning of
- 19:27what we're doing.
- 19:28Number 23, simplifying decisions strengthens alignment, which is
- 19:34why we want to keep things simple, not
- 19:35complicate things.
- 19:37Less noise creates better choices.
- 19:40And when I say noise, I don't just
- 19:42mean noise like from a stereo or a
- 19:45car.
- 19:46I mean noise like interference.
- 19:49Like you're trying to do one thing, and
- 19:52the other side of the room says, oh,
- 19:53we shouldn't do it that way.
- 19:54We should do it this way, right?
- 19:56You're working on an interface, and one side
- 20:00of the room says, you know, we should
- 20:02make sure that every page is ready for
- 20:04mobile friendliness.
- 20:06This is all we can't do that we
- 20:07have time.
- 20:12Number 24, your environment should reflect your goals.
- 20:21Surrounding influence, outcome.
- 20:28And so how do we do this?
- 20:30We have tools.
- 20:32We have colors.
- 20:34We have things that make us feel comfortable
- 20:38to let us go that step.
- 20:48Having things right where you can access them
- 20:50is a good recipe for success.
- 20:53Number 25, your habits must reinforce your identity.
- 21:00Your habits must reinforce your identity.
- 21:02You don't do habits because somebody said, oh,
- 21:05let's do a habit.
- 21:06No, guys.
- 21:07You do a habit because it's part of
- 21:11consistency.
- 21:12It's part of a structure, right?
- 21:15Part of that.
- 21:16When we understand that, we can make positive
- 21:21changes in our life.
- 21:22Now, repetition, ladies and gentlemen, builds alignment, but
- 21:26not overnight.
- 21:30Number 26, your mindset must support your direction,
- 21:36not somebody else's.
- 21:40Thinking shapes execution.
- 21:44Thinking shapes execution.
- 21:48What we're going to use, what resources.
- 21:54Number 27, everything in your system should connect.
- 22:04Disconnected parts reduce effectiveness.
- 22:21Interesting, right?
- 22:29Think about what that means.
- 22:33Think about how that reflects on you.
- 22:35Number 28, when alignment is present, guys, acceleration
- 22:40will naturally follow.
- 22:45When alignment is present, things will get better.
- 22:51Let me see if I can give an
- 22:52example.
- 22:55If you're doing inventory and the inventory practices
- 22:59are done in the standards of GAAP, general
- 23:04accounting principles, they follow consistency and structure all
- 23:09the time, the inventory will get better if
- 23:14it was bad.
- 23:16Remember, ladies and gentlemen, that flow replaces resistance.
- 23:23The flow of a river, the flow of
- 23:26a stream, the flow of your faucet or
- 23:28your shower, it replaces resistance.
- 23:33What would be resistance?
- 23:34You're turning on the faucet, you're putting your
- 23:35finger up there and holding the water back.
- 23:37That is resistance.
- 23:43Let's even think about sneezing, right?
- 23:44You're going to sneeze.
- 23:45If you try to hold it, I hope
- 23:46it's holding my knee.
- 23:47I'm not trying to sneeze, but if I
- 23:47hold my nose back, well, it causes resistance.
- 23:51It causes unnecessary discomfort.
- 23:55That's not the same as discomfort for success.
- 23:58That's a necessary discomfort.
- 23:59That's a difference.
- 24:01Number 29, less chaos creates more control.
- 24:09Less chaos creates more control.
- 24:13And now that we know that, we can
- 24:15understand one other thing.
- 24:16Order improves performance.
- 24:18The order always improves performance.
- 24:21But when people are starting out, they're like,
- 24:23I don't know what you're talking.
- 24:24I have no idea what you're even thinking
- 24:26about.
- 24:26There's a lot of people that, you know,
- 24:32they're watching what the Joneses are doing.
- 24:34And the Joneses might not be doing the
- 24:37right thing, right?
- 24:41It's important that you make the choices on
- 24:44what's best for you because things that you
- 24:46like might be different what other people like,
- 24:50right?
- 24:52I think that's a very wise thing to
- 24:55actually understand, to understand what that whole concept
- 25:03means, right?
- 25:07It's important, guys.
- 25:10It's definitely, definitely very, very important.
- 25:15So number 30, alignment is how you win
- 25:18long term.
- 25:20You don't win long term by just gambling.
- 25:25Unified systems will always outperform scattered results.
- 25:30What's a uniform, unified system?
- 25:32A system that is all tied together.
- 25:35The outputs report back to the other inputs
- 25:38so that things can be measured and controlled.
- 25:41Let's say you're running a system for a
- 25:43bakery and you start out with the dough,
- 25:46all right?
- 25:47Then after the dough and you've got the
- 25:49dough made, now it needs to go in
- 25:50the oven.
- 25:51Every part of that process reports back so
- 25:54that you get a great loaf of bread
- 25:56or a good cookie or whatever you're making.
- 25:59But when we take the feedback of what's
- 26:03going on, we can adjust it.
- 26:05Maybe we notice that the bread is starting
- 26:07to burn, we better adjust it.
- 26:09But this could all happen now with technology.
- 26:11This can all happen with micro controls.
- 26:14They use sensors to constantly check the feedback
- 26:18of things.
- 26:20I remember doing work for a company that
- 26:23manufactures blades and every 1,000th blade was
- 26:30scanned and a micro adjustment was made and
- 26:35then maybe one or two blades were discarded
- 26:37and then it was ready for better production.
- 26:39Because every 1,000 blades we discovered that
- 26:42the process seemed to degradate.
- 26:47It made not the same sharp blade.
- 26:50In closing, ladies and gentlemen, here is the
- 26:54truth.
- 26:54Are you ready for the truth?
- 26:55You do not need more effort.
- 26:58You do not need more complexity.
- 27:01You need alignment in your life because when
- 27:04your life stops pulling in different directions like
- 27:07the tug of war rope, it starts moving
- 27:10forward as one unified, controlled system.
- 27:18And that, ladies and gentlemen, is where acceleration
- 27:21begins.
- 27:24Ladies and gentlemen, I am John C.
- 27:26Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 27:27It's always such a privilege and pleasure to
- 27:28be here with you here.
- 27:29This has been Inspirations For Your Life and
- 27:32this is where alignment becomes momentum.
- 27:38The question I have for you today or
- 27:39tomorrow is, if you're not in alignment, what
- 27:43are you waiting for?
- 27:47What's gonna make you get aligned?
- 27:51Is it loss of money?
- 27:53Is it frustration relationships?
- 27:56Is it a disappointed client?
- 28:00What is it?
- 28:02Have yourself a great one, everyone, and I'll
- 28:03catch you tomorrow with a brand new master
- 28:05topic.
- 28:05Be well, everyone, and take care.
