- 0:05Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:08Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:15Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Now we have to hope that Mac gets
- 0:19Speaker 1: hurt and the Patriots are good. Why would you hope
- 0:22Speaker 1: for him to get hurt so you could get Brady bad.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We have to hope. I was joking, Andy Hart. I'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: gonna need you to listen. Your guy was driving everybody
- 0:30Speaker 1: crazy yesterday. He was probably doing it on purpose. He's
- 0:33Speaker 1: like a little kid. He's just got so long to go.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I don't have that kind of time. He's a boy.
- 0:38Speaker 1: He's a twelve year old Maury, He's a puppy. He's
- 0:40Speaker 1: a little puppy. This guy who sounds like he's going
- 0:42Speaker 1: through puberty, a cranky little beach. In like two months,
- 0:47Speaker 1: maybe he'll just become a fan of a team and
- 0:48Speaker 1: get super invested in it like me. And she's like, oh,
- 0:52Speaker 1: MacMan sixty five yards for a touchdown? I said no.
- 0:56Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:03Speaker 1: to Patriots and Filtered. It's Thursday here at Gilette Stadium,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and we're getting close to the big game, the big Game,
- 1:10Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Um, I don't even know what number it is.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Fifty six already, man, we're getting old huh y old. Yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: So we're gonna do our pick later today, don't have
- 1:23Speaker 1: to really hurry. So I saw something, you know, fifty
- 1:27Speaker 1: six right, this is the fifty sixth Super Bowl. And
- 1:32Speaker 1: how many teams have won a Super Bowl? There's thirty
- 1:34Speaker 1: two teams in the league. How many of the thirty
- 1:35Speaker 1: two have won a Super Bowl? Twenty twenty eight? Question?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Is that right? I don't know. I'm guessing. I don't
- 1:40Speaker 1: think twenty. I think it's more like twenty. Wow. I
- 1:46Speaker 1: thought that's a pretty low number, really, fifty five super Bowls,
- 1:49Speaker 1: only twenty teams. But back in two thousand, you know
- 1:53Speaker 1: when before we had won it, that number was really
- 1:56Speaker 1: even even a lot lower than that. And then lately,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you know, uh, more teams have come on, like, well,
- 2:03Speaker 1: who's won it since the last twenty years? Tampa Bay
- 2:07Speaker 1: Patriot we were one Tampa Tampa Bay. Yeah, um yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: Pittsburgh won, Baltimore Waltimore. Point is a lot of multiple
- 2:17Speaker 1: Super Bowl winners? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean Patriots, six Steelers six, nine Ers five? How
- 2:25Speaker 1: Boys Cowboys five? Right? Glad he said Pittsburgh six, because
- 2:31Speaker 1: I actually was thinking of that too, and I was
- 2:33Speaker 1: thinking back to our our nonsensical argument about who you
- 2:37Speaker 1: root against? Yeah, because I know you guys don't ever
- 2:39Speaker 1: root for anybody. You just root against the team that
- 2:42Speaker 1: that's right, That's right. The watch Pittsburgh played Kansas City
- 2:47Speaker 1: in the playoffs, who'd you root for? I rooted for Pittsburgh.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So it didn't have anything to do with the Patriots then,
- 2:57Speaker 1: because Pittsburgh could have won the Super Bowl and seven. Friend,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I would have worried about that at the time. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: don't think I didn't get m out there. Ye all right,
- 3:06Speaker 1: he doesn't think that I didn't think about it. Let's
- 3:10Speaker 1: not get ahead of ourselves overhete Yeah, and I should
- 3:15Speaker 1: go to the hate room. Yes, so, well, so Cincinnati
- 3:18Speaker 1: would be twenty one then if they Cinnati has a
- 3:20Speaker 1: chance to be UM twenty one if they went so
- 3:24Speaker 1: we'll be talking about the big Game, and you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: some of the other things that have been happening. Gard
- 3:28Speaker 1: Mayo making the rounds um I thought he had some
- 3:30Speaker 1: interesting things to say a lot on different topics, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and your guy Felger. Um, I thought Felger and Mas
- 3:36Speaker 1: asked him some good questions I think they asked, Yeah, well, yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: they had judeon who and Mayo Beatle and Zoe. Yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 1: so they asked him some good questions about you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: the structure and the communication and things that you know
- 3:52Speaker 1: we've been wondering about for you. And you know, Mayo
- 3:54Speaker 1: had his answers, you know about you know how Bill
- 3:57Speaker 1: has never been big with titles. So I went and
- 4:00Speaker 1: did some research starting with two thousand, every year who
- 4:03Speaker 1: was the O C, who was the DC? And Bill's
- 4:07Speaker 1: been you know, fairly consistent about like I thought right
- 4:12Speaker 1: from the beginning, because he was kind of a new coach,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know and coming off bad Cleveland experience, that he
- 4:19Speaker 1: would always have a DCoC at least the beginning. But
- 4:22Speaker 1: that first year he didn't have a name DC. So
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, basically I think he was and then Cronell
- 4:28Speaker 1: took over for many years after that. Uh, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: obviously Weiss was the oc UM and then on and
- 4:36Speaker 1: then in O five, Uh, he didn't have an OC right,
- 4:40Speaker 1: Josh Josh was kind of probably it, but he was
- 4:42Speaker 1: being groomed and you know, Uh, he had right away.
- 4:47Speaker 1: He went from Cornell to Mangini as a name DC,
- 4:50Speaker 1: which I thought was kind of interesting, like and how
- 4:53Speaker 1: long had Mangini been in the program? I mean since
- 4:56Speaker 1: Cleveland he was with Cleveland. That yeah, that's the difference.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So he tried in him. Then a O six, McDaniels
- 5:03Speaker 1: got named it, and then Peace came in and peas
- 5:06Speaker 1: right away, I think because of his experience. He was
- 5:09Speaker 1: DC right away for four years, um, and and then
- 5:15Speaker 1: McDaniels was OC until he left. And then at O
- 5:18Speaker 1: nine Deli O'Brien came, but he wasn't named right OC
- 5:21Speaker 1: for two years right um. And then in ten UM
- 5:26Speaker 1: there was still no named OC and there was no
- 5:29Speaker 1: name DC, both both titles. Right. That's when Maddie pe
- 5:32Speaker 1: kind of started taking Patricia was the linebackers coach, but
- 5:35Speaker 1: he wasn't named it right and then uh, and then
- 5:38Speaker 1: at eleven O'Brien got named the offensive coordinator. Still no DC,
- 5:44Speaker 1: no name DC. Until twelve they named Patricia the DC,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and uh. He remained DC until eighteen. So you had
- 5:55Speaker 1: named O C and d C up until eighteen, right, Well, eighteen,
- 6:00Speaker 1: McDaniels was still here and then since then, no DC,
- 6:03Speaker 1: no name coach right now, I thought that this is
- 6:08Speaker 1: interesting too. I thought anyway, In eighteen Flores was the
- 6:12Speaker 1: linebackers coach and Steve Belichick was the safety's coach. In
- 6:19Speaker 1: nineteen Mayo, you know, Flora's left right, So Mayo became
- 6:24Speaker 1: the linebacker coach and Steve Belichick was the secondary slash
- 6:29Speaker 1: safety's coach. He's kind of now. In twenty Mayo became
- 6:34Speaker 1: the inside linebacker coach and Steve Belichick became the outside
- 6:38Speaker 1: linebacker coach, and Brian Belichick took over the safeties. So
- 6:43Speaker 1: let's starting getting in there. And then, um, that's the
- 6:46Speaker 1: way it remained for twenty one, you know. Yeah, so,
- 6:52Speaker 1: and I think there's a reasonable chance it's going to
- 6:54Speaker 1: remain that way in twenty two. Yeah. Defensively, yeah, it
- 6:58Speaker 1: would seem like defensive I don't know. I'd be curious
- 7:01Speaker 1: to dig a little deeper on when they actually did
- 7:04Speaker 1: promote guys, did you just throw that he did? Here's
- 7:09Speaker 1: my reason, Uh, if it was if it was coupled
- 7:12Speaker 1: with bringing in some younger coaches to like fill those roles,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and then he gets bumped. Whereas you know, so far,
- 7:18Speaker 1: we haven't seen any young young guys come in. So
- 7:20Speaker 1: it doesn't really seem, like Paul said, doesn't seem like
- 7:22Speaker 1: signs are pointing towards people getting elevated. But um, but
- 7:26Speaker 1: this is the longest stretch that we've had a coordinate. Yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 1: they haven't had a defensive coordinator since I got here.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Come crazy, And I think it's it's it's because of
- 7:37Speaker 1: Steve and GRD. He can't just name Steve. I think
- 7:41Speaker 1: he wants the names. So Tom Curran had something I
- 7:43Speaker 1: thought was interesting yesterday on UM your station. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 1: I don't appear on that station anymore, although I do didcast.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But Tom Curran said that it was his understanding that
- 8:00Speaker 1: he had a desire to name them co defensive coordinators.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And there was some pushback because one was far more
- 8:11Speaker 1: deserving than the other. And that's that's how we left it,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and that's why they decided to just leave it the
- 8:16Speaker 1: way it was. And I think internally Bill probably thinks
- 8:20Speaker 1: Steve is more deserving than the other because of his
- 8:22Speaker 1: experience as a coach, and and you know, based on
- 8:26Speaker 1: the way Karen talked, I think it was Mayo who
- 8:28Speaker 1: gave the pushback. That's all I'm doing up the two.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Probably Mayo felt that, but I bet to Bill probably thinks,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you know, my son's been doing this since he was
- 8:37Speaker 1: five years old, actually played in he's only being he's
- 8:43Speaker 1: my son, and he's been doing it since he's five,
- 8:44Speaker 1: So that counts his experience. It does, No, it doesn't. Well,
- 8:48Speaker 1: even if you don't count, what if he wasn't the
- 8:49Speaker 1: son and he was doing it since he was five,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it wouldn't count been either. Why because he's not a
- 8:54Speaker 1: co right, No, I know, but he's been around it
- 8:57Speaker 1: and been doing it his whole life, right like game,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I do think it's the same. I think I don't
- 9:03Speaker 1: care forget about him being well that Mayo has done
- 9:05Speaker 1: the same thing. He's played. What's the difference. He hasn't coached,
- 9:09Speaker 1: neither has Steve Belichick. But you give him credit for coaching.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But I do give him. But even you throw the
- 9:14Speaker 1: kids stuff out. He's been here since what twenty eleven twelve?
- 9:17Speaker 1: I mean you just mentioned Josh. Josh was here O
- 9:19Speaker 1: one by oh five, he was the de facto offensive coordinator,
- 9:22Speaker 1: going from an assistant. So I mean, I do see
- 9:25Speaker 1: like Steve's got a bunch of experience. I mean Maine
- 9:27Speaker 1: the same thing. Like, maybe not the time exactly lines up,
- 9:30Speaker 1: But I mean Steve's don't here a listen forget about
- 9:32Speaker 1: what how good you think he is? He's put in
- 9:35Speaker 1: the time, Yeah you know, I mean he's in time.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I don't have any criticism of his caliber of coach
- 9:43Speaker 1: because I have absolutely no idea, right I don't, And
- 9:45Speaker 1: that's and that's I don't even I think people get unfair,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Right I don't either, and that's and that's a I
- 9:50Speaker 1: mean something we can't really know. But what what does
- 9:53Speaker 1: Mayo's playing experience give him as a coach. I mean,
- 9:55Speaker 1: it's certainly valuable, certainly has value to the coaching staff,
- 9:58Speaker 1: that he's been out there, that he's done it, that
- 9:59Speaker 1: he's alway praised as a smart player. But I do
- 10:01Speaker 1: think there's something to be said that Steve has been
- 10:04Speaker 1: around and coach various position groups and seeing different things,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Like you know, I think it probably meets about at
- 10:09Speaker 1: the same place, you know, like a guy who played
- 10:11Speaker 1: the NFL and knows versus I didn't play Bounce experience
- 10:16Speaker 1: as a player it definitely counts. But I sy I'm
- 10:18Speaker 1: surprised to think that Mayo coaching for three years and
- 10:22Speaker 1: playing for however, many played that that right really qualifies
- 10:26Speaker 1: as a lot like I don't know, it still seems
- 10:29Speaker 1: to me like he's a young coach and that he's
- 10:30Speaker 1: yeah learning, both of them are. Yeah, yeah, I agree. Now,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Mayo had some interesting things to say, you know, with
- 10:36Speaker 1: Zoe and Beatle about you know, they asked him about
- 10:39Speaker 1: this whole thing, and he said, listen, you know, actually,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you know, we the guys spend more time with their
- 10:45Speaker 1: position coaches than they do with the court, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: with as as a as a you know, a defensive unit,
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know, so it really doesn't matter. M but you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: he did say that it's it's important to have that
- 10:59Speaker 1: one you know, line of communication. You know. So he
- 11:04Speaker 1: made it out like it's not a big deal, you know, Judon, Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 1: but he's also I'm sorry, yeah, Judean, Jude. I keep
- 11:11Speaker 1: asking sometimes Gerard le Mayo, sometimes Steve does It's um,
- 11:16Speaker 1: you know, he he didn't make a big deal out
- 11:17Speaker 1: of it, but I mean I did enjoy just the
- 11:19Speaker 1: felgron mass. I love that they get a chance to
- 11:22Speaker 1: ask Matthew Judon questions directly because I think they asked
- 11:24Speaker 1: them good questions and they have all these things that
- 11:26Speaker 1: they talk about all year that you never really get
- 11:28Speaker 1: answers on, and you know, for them to get some clarity.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I thought that was it was good. Yeah, so Judean
- 11:33Speaker 1: said like, it's not a big deal. It wasn't an issue. Um.
- 11:37Speaker 1: They also asked him about why he fell off the cliff.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You know, were you were you injured? I loved that. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I loved Judon's answer. Yeah, I don't care if he
- 11:46Speaker 1: was hurt and he's lying, right. I love the answer. Yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, I got a football injuries. But everybody
- 11:51Speaker 1: has that, but I have no excuse. I loved that.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I gotta find a way, you know. And he tried
- 11:58Speaker 1: to say that as a defense. Too many guys individually,
- 12:00Speaker 1: we're trying to be the guy who was the playmaker. Yep,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I think was how we worded it, and that that's
- 12:05Speaker 1: why the dean, I'm gonna make this play on and
- 12:07Speaker 1: make that place to do your job thing. It's it's
- 12:08Speaker 1: everybody trying to do their own thing and make plays.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I just I mean, I couldn't help. But wonder who
- 12:15Speaker 1: you know, because if Judon is the new guy and
- 12:17Speaker 1: he's got that observation like you wouldn't expect that from
- 12:20Speaker 1: high Tower van Noy, the guys who have been around
- 12:22Speaker 1: that that know the system. M M Paul doing something
- 12:27Speaker 1: with his head. You watch the game, what do you
- 12:30Speaker 1: think you see? But I mean, for all the things
- 12:38Speaker 1: that they said, right, it didn't really leave me feeling better.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I agree with the Mayo and Mayo's whole thing response
- 12:45Speaker 1: to Rodney of you know, hey we finished third in
- 12:47Speaker 1: points and YadA, YadA, YadA, and yeah you did. But yeah, specifically,
- 12:54Speaker 1: Rodney had specifically said something about there, they're not only there,
- 12:58Speaker 1: they're slow, but they're not Yeah, who's gonna go hit
- 13:01Speaker 1: Josh Allen and send a message? And he that's what Mayo,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you know, sort of shot back at Rodney about a
- 13:08Speaker 1: little bit sorry. When you don't stop the run for
- 13:11Speaker 1: like three years in a row, you're a little soft
- 13:13Speaker 1: and also physical. I don't I don't care about the
- 13:15Speaker 1: numbers because you know, we saw how they were skewed.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You know, you had a shutout against the Falcons, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and things like that when you played the good teams
- 13:25Speaker 1: down the road, Yeah, you didn't do well. And he
- 13:29Speaker 1: did kind of admit to that though. Yeah, afterward, like
- 13:31Speaker 1: he was. His thing was like, you know, we're not
- 13:34Speaker 1: soft because you know, just because we're not hitting people
- 13:37Speaker 1: after the play or after the whistle. And so that
- 13:40Speaker 1: was his like impression of Rodney saying that they were
- 13:43Speaker 1: soft was that you have to be extra career, which
- 13:45Speaker 1: I thought it was a little peaked behind the curtain
- 13:46Speaker 1: of what he thinks of Rodney, right exactly. I had
- 13:48Speaker 1: the same thought with all them. I don't think this
- 13:50Speaker 1: soft either. I just think they were in the wrong place.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But he also admitted that like against RPOs and running quarterbacks,
- 13:57Speaker 1: they struggled. Yeah, so he kind of head to put
- 14:00Speaker 1: you in a dilemma. Yes, on the field, I don't
- 14:02Speaker 1: think they're overly physical though I'm not saying soft, but
- 14:05Speaker 1: I don't think they're an overly physical front. I think
- 14:07Speaker 1: they get pushed around. I think Tennessee pushed them around
- 14:10Speaker 1: that day. Yeah. Yeah, I mean as as good as
- 14:12Speaker 1: Judon was early on and never felt like he was
- 14:14Speaker 1: this physical edge setting presence um. But this kind of
- 14:18Speaker 1: gets around, like this big point I keep kind of
- 14:19Speaker 1: thinking about and what does it say about a team?
- 14:22Speaker 1: And I would throw out kind of Dallas in Tampa
- 14:24Speaker 1: two games that they lost, but they were competitive in
- 14:27Speaker 1: But otherwise it's a team that just absolutely destroyed bad
- 14:32Speaker 1: teams and had nothing against good teams down the stretch.
- 14:35Speaker 1: What does that say about the stress? And I would
- 14:36Speaker 1: say defensively, the only game that they played reasonably well
- 14:41Speaker 1: defensively against a good team was the Tampa game. Yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 1: because Dallas put what Dallas dominated that game but just
- 14:49Speaker 1: kept turning it over. Right, But but still that could
- 14:52Speaker 1: probably they they held Tampa in check that night, and
- 14:55Speaker 1: they certainly gave the team a chance to win defensively.
- 14:59Speaker 1: But just how that's absolutely just stomp the field with
- 15:03Speaker 1: teams like Atlanta and you know, the Jets and you know,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and then these are teams that throughout the season pulled
- 15:09Speaker 1: out some wins here and there. I mean, they weren't
- 15:11Speaker 1: completely inept all the time. I just that's what I
- 15:14Speaker 1: can't quite grasp my head. What does it say about
- 15:16Speaker 1: that team that they were so great against teams when
- 15:19Speaker 1: they were overmatched And I mean, I guess you could
- 15:20Speaker 1: say frontrunners, but you know, and to have just it
- 15:23Speaker 1: was such a disparity between what they would do to
- 15:26Speaker 1: a bad team versus what they would do to Buffalo,
- 15:28Speaker 1: which was nothing you know, like that's what to me
- 15:31Speaker 1: is like the lingering kind of effect of like what
- 15:34Speaker 1: is this team like these last few years. It's just
- 15:36Speaker 1: it's nothing that you've kind of come to expect from them.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And I mean you can say they're kind of like bullies. Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 1: you know, like when they had a coaching when they
- 15:44Speaker 1: had a coaching advantage and you know, talent, things started
- 15:48Speaker 1: going well everybody, when things were evened out a little bit, yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 1: they you know, and it wasn't even like you get
- 15:55Speaker 1: into the games and you'd see like, well, they came
- 15:58Speaker 1: out and they played pretty well, but once it started
- 15:59Speaker 1: going in their bad way, they just couldn't really Like
- 16:02Speaker 1: they didn't really come into these games like against Indianapolis
- 16:05Speaker 1: or Buffalo at the end with even something at the
- 16:07Speaker 1: beginning that made you think, well they were prepared, but
- 16:10Speaker 1: they just they got against it. It's like they didn't
- 16:12Speaker 1: even have it coming into it. So I don't know
- 16:15Speaker 1: what I mean. And so in that regard, like well
- 16:17Speaker 1: Rodney said, like I get it. I'd like a little
- 16:20Speaker 1: bit more of that presence. I mean, I also think
- 16:21Speaker 1: Rodney might be a little bit you know trapped or
- 16:23Speaker 1: when he played and doesn't realize, like, you know, you
- 16:25Speaker 1: can't just corn hed hunting guys anymore. You're gonna be
- 16:27Speaker 1: torn out of the game. But I think see, I
- 16:30Speaker 1: think that Mayo took the Rodney stuff to be Rodney stuff, like,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you know, let the let the receipt, you know, put
- 16:37Speaker 1: a stick in his ribs, let them know you're they are, yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 1: you know, give them, give them a little shot, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you know, making question going over the middle. I don't
- 16:45Speaker 1: think that's the sign of necessarily a physical defense, just
- 16:48Speaker 1: you know, having hard because you're right, you can't play
- 16:51Speaker 1: like that anymore. You can't. So you can do that
- 16:54Speaker 1: all you want, and you can give yourself fifteen yard penalties,
- 16:57Speaker 1: but that's not really going to help you. I think
- 16:59Speaker 1: the physical that Roddy is really talking about his upfront,
- 17:02Speaker 1: it's it's winning the one on one battle. They have
- 17:04Speaker 1: not been able to stop the run for three seasons. Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and that's and that's key. And i'd also throw force
- 17:09Speaker 1: bumbles in there. I think that's a sign of a
- 17:11Speaker 1: tough team that makes you know, they get interceptions. But
- 17:14Speaker 1: there wasn't a lot of that that kind of just
- 17:16Speaker 1: you know, pure physicality like you saw with that old
- 17:18Speaker 1: defense when they were forcing fumbles left and right. And
- 17:21Speaker 1: I mean, I know turnovers can be fickle and all that,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but I think they need to add some something. But
- 17:26Speaker 1: the other thing that Mayo said that I thought was
- 17:29Speaker 1: interesting is that, you know, he intimated that he had
- 17:33Speaker 1: been offered DC opportunities. He didn't come out and say that,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but he said, you know, it has to be the right,
- 17:40Speaker 1: you know, the right. I think he's not interested it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: head coach or yeah, yeah, he's not interested in DC.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And I just think that, like, you know, maybe he's
- 17:50Speaker 1: gonna be a great head coach, but man, if I'm
- 17:53Speaker 1: the owner of a team, that's a big risk. You know, yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you were a good player, but you've only been a
- 17:59Speaker 1: coach three years and now you're going to be a
- 18:02Speaker 1: head coach. Wow, that's a to me, that's a big league. Well.
- 18:05Speaker 1: They also kind of took that one step further and said, oh,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you love being in New England, so would you want
- 18:11Speaker 1: to be the head coach here? And he kind of
- 18:12Speaker 1: said that was the best case scenario. Yea, his key,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I doesn't want to have to have his kids family.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I love the unabashedness of the whole thing too. You know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you don't. It's rare that you get guys that just
- 18:25Speaker 1: say what they're thinking, especially in that environment that radio
- 18:28Speaker 1: row is, right, it's usually like pre packaged marketing stuff.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But I thought his answer mail was here, right, but
- 18:36Speaker 1: he made but he was out there. I don't know
- 18:38Speaker 1: if I don't know if he was out there or not,
- 18:40Speaker 1: but he made the right the radio row kind of
- 18:42Speaker 1: ride he was put. I didn't even remember what he
- 18:45Speaker 1: was pushing. Now. Helmet was okay, yes, right, you're right. Um,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I don't think you can say helmets, we are we
- 18:53Speaker 1: a ken. I don't know. There was just all this
- 18:58Speaker 1: like what you can and can't write about with Ted,
- 19:01Speaker 1: Like I did like some of the things that he said.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And you know, he specifically said that, you know, Steve
- 19:07Speaker 1: calls the plays and he runs formulates I run the defense,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Steve calls the plays. Like that was kind of like,
- 19:14Speaker 1: so they kind of are co defensive coordinators, right. But
- 19:17Speaker 1: I also, in regards to your point about the head
- 19:20Speaker 1: coach thing, loved his answer about like, I don't want
- 19:23Speaker 1: someone to make me a head coach to fill a quota.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yea right, right, I'm paraphrasing. He said, I want to
- 19:28Speaker 1: I want to get a job because I deserve I'm
- 19:30Speaker 1: the best COMPI yeah, yeah, sure, Yeah. Well, I mean,
- 19:33Speaker 1: is there a future you can imagine where Mayo is
- 19:35Speaker 1: the head coach here and maybe Steve's his defensive coordinate.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Maybe he's the successor. Yeah, and maybe that's how it works.
- 19:41Speaker 1: They I mean, they spend a lot of time together.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I mean obviously, but we've seen them. Yeah. Oh they
- 19:46Speaker 1: walk out to practice together. Yea. So as they say,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, like that whole thing I'm trying, you know,
- 19:50Speaker 1: like this, Sometimes these things just become fact because we
- 19:54Speaker 1: talk about him so much. But we say, like, Bill's
- 19:56Speaker 1: not going to leave until he feels secure with that.
- 19:59Speaker 1: His sons have a you know, you know who knows.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But might that be a way to get them secure.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Maybe Gerard really like Steve, right, and if if Gerard
- 20:08Speaker 1: takes over for Bill, he's just it's natural, you just
- 20:12Speaker 1: keep they've got a relation. It's got to be a
- 20:14Speaker 1: little awkward though, it's you know, it's no matter what yea,
- 20:19Speaker 1: no matter what you say about Steve and how good
- 20:22Speaker 1: you think he is, how much time he's put in,
- 20:24Speaker 1: he's still the coach's son, you know, And so like
- 20:27Speaker 1: you gotta be careful. Now. What I don't know is
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know, how you know objective Bill is and how
- 20:35Speaker 1: he treats everybody? Like does he really treat Steve like
- 20:38Speaker 1: everybody else? And is that apparent to everybody? Like? In
- 20:42Speaker 1: other words, can grod Mayo speak his mind to Steve
- 20:45Speaker 1: and not have to worry about Steve? Ye? Maybe he can?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Can we switch? You know, if there's someone that would
- 20:51Speaker 1: do that, it would be Bill that would treat his
- 20:53Speaker 1: son like everybody else? You know, can we switch a
- 20:55Speaker 1: little to offense? Uh? Sure? And and I want to
- 20:59Speaker 1: ask the PA my esteemed colleagues, UM, do you think
- 21:03Speaker 1: this is it Joe Judge or do you think there'll
- 21:06Speaker 1: be another guy named offensive coordinator? I think it's Joe Judge.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think I think the only way it would be
- 21:13Speaker 1: someone named offensive coordinator if it's someone with the experience,
- 21:16Speaker 1: like a Bill O'Brien. But like when they brought as
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'm asking, do you think there'll be another guy? I'm
- 21:25Speaker 1: on the fence. Yeah, you know, I would have to say,
- 21:30Speaker 1: if I had a bet, I'd say no. Okay, Now
- 21:33Speaker 1: assume that that's what it is. Joe Judge is an
- 21:37Speaker 1: offensive assistant that's official. By the way, if you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: the last time we talked to her hadn't been official.
- 21:41Speaker 1: They put out the release. The team has now put
- 21:43Speaker 1: out a release that is official. He was named quote
- 21:46Speaker 1: offensive assistant, so we too understand that he is the
- 21:51Speaker 1: offensive coordinator or no? And if so, either way, who's
- 21:57Speaker 1: calling the plays next year? Do you think? I think?
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be similar to the defense, to
- 22:03Speaker 1: the defense where Mick Lombardi's probably gonna, you know, have
- 22:07Speaker 1: a headset on who's calling the place. Who do you
- 22:11Speaker 1: think is calling the place? I think I think Nick
- 22:13Speaker 1: Kayley will be called really okay, Joe Judge has ever
- 22:16Speaker 1: called place? Yeah, Like I don't. I don't know if
- 22:20Speaker 1: you could just do that, yeah, i'd actually, I mean
- 22:24Speaker 1: I didn't immediately think it stressful calling plays. Some people
- 22:29Speaker 1: might love it is stressful, but I think some people
- 22:32Speaker 1: might like get it. They might love it. But you
- 22:34Speaker 1: gotta get those plays in on time. You gotta be thinking, right,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I mean, that's fine, that's that's a tough job. Yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I mean, I when Paul said that that way though,
- 22:46Speaker 1: that's kind of appealing to me of having a Nick Kayley,
- 22:49Speaker 1: a young offensive coordinator who isn't going to probably get
- 22:52Speaker 1: poached right away, but he has some experience with Joe
- 22:56Speaker 1: Judge as a fallback, and you know when a sounding word.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I kind of like that dynamic. I just I've been
- 23:03Speaker 1: on the fence. I think part of it because they
- 23:05Speaker 1: named him offensive assistant, it felt like at least the
- 23:07Speaker 1: door open a little bit. They want to, you know, um,
- 23:11Speaker 1: but is it Bill O'Brien, Because after Bill O'Brien, who's
- 23:14Speaker 1: it really? Who's Adam Adam Gase? Yeah, I mean there's
- 23:19Speaker 1: probably a million that we don't know about just because
- 23:21Speaker 1: we haven't heard of him. Most of them are possibilities
- 23:24Speaker 1: because they haven't worked for Bill or you know, a
- 23:27Speaker 1: round Bill. That's why I threw that that name out there. Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Ohsha's a guy. I mean, I know what the situation
- 23:33Speaker 1: is in Cleveland, but yeah, I mean I don't know
- 23:36Speaker 1: with him. I guess he's what limited experience was, briefly
- 23:39Speaker 1: what Miami's offensive coordinator for like a year. I'd probably
- 23:43Speaker 1: be just a little bit more enticed by by Kaylee
- 23:45Speaker 1: somebody in internal if if they were to uh at
- 23:48Speaker 1: least be the play caller. Maybe they don't give him
- 23:49Speaker 1: the I don't think. I don't think nobody's going to
- 23:52Speaker 1: be named. I'm with Fred. I don't think there'll be
- 23:54Speaker 1: a guy that's his offensive coordinator. No, no, but someone
- 23:58Speaker 1: has to call the place, Yeah, I haven't. I think
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's going to be Judge. And the reason I think
- 24:02Speaker 1: that is because I think Bill likes him, and we
- 24:09Speaker 1: saw that he was trying to do what he could
- 24:12Speaker 1: when Judge was still here to try to get him
- 24:14Speaker 1: more experience. And in that last year was at nineteen,
- 24:18Speaker 1: he was given the added title of wide receivers coach
- 24:22Speaker 1: to try to give him a little bit more experience.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Then he gets the head coaching job in New York,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and I think like when think about when Josh came
- 24:30Speaker 1: back after having been a head coach and an offensive
- 24:34Speaker 1: coordinator with with was it Saint Louis at the time
- 24:39Speaker 1: he came back, and like Josh, you could tell had
- 24:42Speaker 1: sort of a different demeanor on the practice field, like
- 24:49Speaker 1: he and Bill were more kind of on even terms
- 24:53Speaker 1: than it used to be where it was clearly like
- 24:56Speaker 1: Bill's the boss, Josh goes and reports to him. It
- 24:58Speaker 1: was more of a like we're seeing eye to eye,
- 25:00Speaker 1: we're seeing this together. I'm conferring with you, and I
- 25:03Speaker 1: think he'll have that same sort of dynamic with Judge
- 25:07Speaker 1: when he comes back. And I just think that clearly
- 25:11Speaker 1: Judge wants to be more than what he was before
- 25:14Speaker 1: before he left here. Yeah, and it's the same way
- 25:16Speaker 1: thing with Patricia. Sure. Lets you have been a head
- 25:19Speaker 1: coach in the NFL, right, That's that's an experience that
- 25:23Speaker 1: you can't replicate right, except by doing it right. And
- 25:26Speaker 1: I think Bill has that respect because he did that. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: here's a head coach and failed and learned from it,
- 25:32Speaker 1: and he projects he thinks that they did the same thing.
- 25:35Speaker 1: They've learned from that experience. So if you put a
- 25:39Speaker 1: gun to my head, I'll say that Judge is the
- 25:41Speaker 1: guy calling the place, even though he's never done it. Yeah,
- 25:44Speaker 1: but Paul's is a good one. I'm really worried about
- 25:47Speaker 1: the offense, and yeah, that structure I'm worried about. I mean,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'll bet you there are good play callers and bad
- 25:54Speaker 1: play callers, of course, like you can be really good
- 25:56Speaker 1: at it and then every level behind that you. Yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 1: And like I know people, I always think like the
- 26:02Speaker 1: individual play call itself is largely overrated. But I do
- 26:07Speaker 1: think there's a rhythm to setting up plays, and certainly
- 26:11Speaker 1: in terms of the operation, it's it's important to get
- 26:14Speaker 1: it right and get it right fast. Yeah, um, or
- 26:17Speaker 1: it can really throw your tempo off. Yeah, if you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: even even by a couple of seconds here or there,
- 26:23Speaker 1: if the calls aren't being made. I don't know, Like
- 26:28Speaker 1: I just no matter what, I think, you got a
- 26:30Speaker 1: guy who never called plays calling plays next year, and
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's a problem. Yeah, I mean,
- 26:36Speaker 1: I mean, you know there's more to it then, Okay,
- 26:38Speaker 1: it's third and two. Here's my list of third and
- 26:41Speaker 1: two plays. You know, it's the SA Did the other
- 26:44Speaker 1: team just have an injury? Right? You know? Clock management
- 26:48Speaker 1: plus on second and ten? You're you're not just thinking
- 26:50Speaker 1: about what you call on second and ten, You're thinking
- 26:52Speaker 1: about what am I? What do I got on five? Three?
- 26:55Speaker 1: You know, after the second and ten play gets me seven?
- 26:58Speaker 1: What do I got on third and three? Right? You know?
- 27:00Speaker 1: Is is my left tackle having a hard time? You know?
- 27:03Speaker 1: Do I? You know, if there's all kinds of in
- 27:05Speaker 1: context decisions that you have to make besides what my
- 27:09Speaker 1: playsheet says for that for that down and distance, it
- 27:12Speaker 1: would have been interesting to see if Judge hadn't gotten
- 27:14Speaker 1: the job with New York, what would have happened in
- 27:17Speaker 1: twenty twenty or twenty twenty one with his responsibilities. Would
- 27:21Speaker 1: cam a Court have completely taken over special teams and
- 27:23Speaker 1: Judge risen to do something else or or not? You know,
- 27:28Speaker 1: would they have kept it as status quo? Yeah, I
- 27:31Speaker 1: don't know, but you're right, it's going to be very
- 27:33Speaker 1: interesting this summer. But what else could Judge have done?
- 27:37Speaker 1: Maybe he goes to quarterbacks and that instead of they're
- 27:40Speaker 1: hiring Bohart. Agree, Maybe they make Joe Judge the quarterbacks
- 27:43Speaker 1: coach and sort of like a sort of like an
- 27:45Speaker 1: offensive play calling assistant, Like who knows, I mean, maybe
- 27:49Speaker 1: they make role. Maybe he he does, starts doing that,
- 27:52Speaker 1: he becomes and I'm not gonna lie. Like the Giants
- 27:55Speaker 1: offense that that that's part of the equation, Like how
- 27:59Speaker 1: bad the Giants offense wasn't the two years that that
- 28:02Speaker 1: Joe Judge was the Giant's head coach. That's that's part
- 28:05Speaker 1: of it for me, That's part of the equation. We
- 28:06Speaker 1: saw firsthand here. I was not impressed. Their best plays
- 28:09Speaker 1: were the Daniel Jones keepers running, but you know there is,
- 28:13Speaker 1: and that's what you got. You got a young quarterback. Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I mean there is part of me though that if
- 28:18Speaker 1: we can, if somebody like Nick Kayley is ready to
- 28:21Speaker 1: call plays and kind of ascend into that role and
- 28:23Speaker 1: get on that Josh track, I'd be on board with it.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Just if if you know you can, you're gonna keep
- 28:28Speaker 1: a guy with Mac through his contract and however long
- 28:31Speaker 1: he stays with the team, maybe takes some lumps this
- 28:34Speaker 1: year if you have to. But I don't know, I
- 28:36Speaker 1: think that's a little bit more appealing to me than
- 28:38Speaker 1: maybe say, Adam Gaze comes for a year, does well,
- 28:42Speaker 1: leaves again. I don't think he'd believing though, Yeah, take
- 28:45Speaker 1: him a while. Ain't getting a head coaching job. Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 1: And you can make the same argument with Judge like that,
- 28:50Speaker 1: teams aren't going to be scrambling to knock his door down.
- 28:52Speaker 1: But at least he always but at least he only
- 28:54Speaker 1: failed once. Right. But I'm say, well, Brian, there's a
- 28:59Speaker 1: chance that he's going after year one. I don't think
- 29:01Speaker 1: Adam Gas is going any He's not getting another head
- 29:03Speaker 1: coaching job. No, But you've seen plenty of Kate, I mean,
- 29:06Speaker 1: Josh is a good example where like he flamed out
- 29:08Speaker 1: in Denver, but he stayed in one place for a
- 29:12Speaker 1: long time, rebuilt his reputation, and now we got a job.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Now it's was it a decade later almost, But it
- 29:18Speaker 1: could be the same thing. I think just part of
- 29:20Speaker 1: build too, that that could be remembers being in that
- 29:23Speaker 1: position of being fired. And you know, I think likes
- 29:25Speaker 1: giving guys that that chance. And you know, when Josh
- 29:28Speaker 1: came back, it's like these coaches they come in after
- 29:31Speaker 1: failing as punchlines. It's just what happens. It's you fail,
- 29:34Speaker 1: everyone makes fun of you. You had the quarterback sneak.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Uh huh. I mean the same thing with Matt Patricia
- 29:39Speaker 1: last year. So you know, I get why why they're
- 29:42Speaker 1: bringing guys back, but um, you know, I just I
- 29:44Speaker 1: just want to continue to build to the long term
- 29:46Speaker 1: and try to, you know, put guys in positions where
- 29:48Speaker 1: they're going to be here for a little bit and
- 29:49Speaker 1: they can stay with MAC and you can have some
- 29:51Speaker 1: continuity because you're you're pulling the rug out from under
- 29:53Speaker 1: room after one year. I mean, I don't think it's
- 29:55Speaker 1: a you know, usually detrimental thing. They have time to
- 29:58Speaker 1: regroup but I think they gotta think, you know, building
- 30:00Speaker 1: a relationship and building an offense around him, and you know,
- 30:03Speaker 1: finding an offensive coordinator that jives with him. And you know,
- 30:07Speaker 1: maybe maybe I don't know what it was like with Josh,
- 30:09Speaker 1: but you know, there's just something appealing about somebody who's
- 30:11Speaker 1: been here and to kind of continue like everything you
- 30:13Speaker 1: laid out Fred that the people that have have been around,
- 30:16Speaker 1: And yeah, there's always some uncertainty of all right, you
- 30:19Speaker 1: know this guy Josh McDaniels is gonna be the play
- 30:21Speaker 1: call or who is he? Um, there is a leap
- 30:23Speaker 1: of faith with that stuff. But I think in the
- 30:25Speaker 1: long term, then you know, you end up in oh
- 30:27Speaker 1: seven and you know that offseason they start getting pieces.
- 30:30Speaker 1: He knows just what to do, how to put it
- 30:31Speaker 1: around Brady and you know, built an awesome offense. So
- 30:34Speaker 1: maybe maybe they can you know, reproduce something like that. Yeah. Well,
- 30:41Speaker 1: but you know, I mean it's just you keep coming
- 30:44Speaker 1: back to all these he comes back and we get
- 30:48Speaker 1: the band back together. Yeah these I mean, this the
- 30:50Speaker 1: AFC is is such a bloodbath right now. And that's
- 30:52Speaker 1: it's and that's like everything you talk about with the
- 30:54Speaker 1: team building and you know, Max's future and stuff, and
- 30:57Speaker 1: it's hard not to just look at and say, you
- 30:59Speaker 1: gotta beat the bills. He got to be in stuff
- 31:01Speaker 1: right there, and stuff. I didn't even do it on purpose.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I know you didn't Chandler Jones blunt um, but you know,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I I forgot my point. I'm sorry that was just
- 31:15Speaker 1: made me chuckle. Yeah. So so, I mean, it's it's
- 31:19Speaker 1: really really important, you know, And I you know, the
- 31:22Speaker 1: sooner they get this all settled, the better, because you know,
- 31:25Speaker 1: it's critical you want to use all this time, especially
- 31:28Speaker 1: for aficiently, especially for Mac as you pointed out, dudes,
- 31:31Speaker 1: going into his second year. This is a very critical
- 31:34Speaker 1: year for any player, particularly a quarterback, and for him
- 31:37Speaker 1: to like, you know, if if they were to bring
- 31:41Speaker 1: in someone with completely new ideas and a new offense,
- 31:43Speaker 1: now that's really how is that going to throw off
- 31:46Speaker 1: his projected development? And you'd like to see some sort
- 31:49Speaker 1: of continuity with him and and hope that he can
- 31:53Speaker 1: maximize the offseason program and knowledge of the system and
- 31:57Speaker 1: working with teammates that he had a year of experience
- 32:00Speaker 1: with under under their belt, and you know, maybe he's
- 32:03Speaker 1: the one leading the offseason stuff where they go out
- 32:06Speaker 1: to the warm weather locality and they're having passing camps
- 32:08Speaker 1: and that kind of thing. So, yeah, we're gonna have
- 32:11Speaker 1: a chance to talk to mac uh in La. We've
- 32:15Speaker 1: got no socks out there with Chris Gogo and so
- 32:19Speaker 1: they're gonna have about fifteen minutes with Mac tet you know.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And one of the questions I said, you know, maybe
- 32:25Speaker 1: ask him where does he plan to spend most of
- 32:27Speaker 1: his offseason. Is it gonna be here or you know,
- 32:30Speaker 1: somewhere else? Yeah, yeah, hopefully here. Well yeah, you know,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but listen, if he's got to get away, he's got Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I mean, if it's if it's more efficient to be
- 32:39Speaker 1: in a warm weather place, then then go there. But
- 32:42Speaker 1: you know, I think I don't think we have to
- 32:45Speaker 1: worry about Mac not using his time to get better. No,
- 32:48Speaker 1: I think that's what he's all about. It's as good
- 32:50Speaker 1: he's gonna get a chance. As they say, Paul football
- 32:53Speaker 1: is very important to him. You know, sounds convinced. Well,
- 32:59Speaker 1: I know, I'm just falls thinking about the bean pot.
- 33:03Speaker 1: He's like. I was actually just looking at the promo
- 33:06Speaker 1: that NFL Network was running it for the No Honors tonight,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and tonight we'll find out if Richard Seymour makes the
- 33:13Speaker 1: Hall of Family's thinking of another topic, Patriots related, Seymour
- 33:17Speaker 1: is again of finalists. Is what four years in a row?
- 33:19Speaker 1: I think, so, yeah, he's gonna get in, and we
- 33:22Speaker 1: do not know that. We don't know. Um, I don't know.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But based on who he's up against, he should get in.
- 33:27Speaker 1: He should get in. He should get in. Ye. Well,
- 33:33Speaker 1: otherwise he would have been in already, I think, don't you. Yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Like I took Andre
- 33:38Speaker 1: Tippot a long time to get in, he should have
- 33:40Speaker 1: been in a lot earlier than that. Stuff. To me,
- 33:42Speaker 1: I just don't like I don't like the process. I
- 33:45Speaker 1: don't like how it's just media guys like, yeah, it's
- 33:50Speaker 1: gotta be a better way, right, it's gotta be a
- 33:52Speaker 1: better way, right, Let me just do it. But I
- 33:56Speaker 1: hope he asked me, I'll tell you what happens. Happen,
- 34:01Speaker 1: what happens when the guys get up there and friends like,
- 34:03Speaker 1: who's who is that? I don't know him? Yeah, then
- 34:06Speaker 1: he doesn't get if I don't know. He's the all
- 34:08Speaker 1: time leader in receptions, Freddy, No one's ever done it
- 34:11Speaker 1: better than if I don't know, he shouldn't be in catches.
- 34:14Speaker 1: If I don't use catches, that's a staff suddenly catches. Suddenly.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Fred's going by the the On Camella rule. But if
- 34:21Speaker 1: I don't know him, yeah, right, that's right. He can't
- 34:24Speaker 1: be All of Famer unless everybody knows it. But you
- 34:26Speaker 1: don't really, but you don't really know a lot of
- 34:28Speaker 1: people that we needed the camera that time. So anyway,
- 34:37Speaker 1: Seymour will find out tonight, yeah, with the with the
- 34:41Speaker 1: class is and hopefully he'll get in. Yeah, and there's
- 34:44Speaker 1: some other awards that you know, Patriots players are up
- 34:48Speaker 1: for the Rooney Award and mac Jones Mac Jones for
- 34:51Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year, which I'm with Paul now, I
- 34:54Speaker 1: don't think he should get or will get. Well, yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: you know, Chase came on, Yes, came on, he came on.
- 35:03Speaker 1: He came on starting a week he came on. That's good,
- 35:07Speaker 1: he's good. It's good. Yeah. Actually, a question, um, what
- 35:10Speaker 1: does the UH content crew do for Hall of Fame inductions?
- 35:14Speaker 1: If Patriots players is there like a big to do well.
- 35:16Speaker 1: We used to be able to like actually hang out
- 35:19Speaker 1: at their hotel room and be there when the you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: the knock on the door, but they don't do that anymore,
- 35:24Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, I don't know why, but so um,
- 35:28Speaker 1: you know, we'll we'll try to get some one on
- 35:30Speaker 1: one with Richard, but they're really restricting access at the
- 35:34Speaker 1: But I think you were talking about the actual induction, know,
- 35:37Speaker 1: just everything just generally. Yeah, I mean we're kind of
- 35:40Speaker 1: out there now in case that's part of what we're
- 35:42Speaker 1: gonna do. Why they're there. Yeah, but in August, you know,
- 35:46Speaker 1: I I'm trying to think when thy Law, you know,
- 35:48Speaker 1: we'll have a crew out there, and you know we
- 35:51Speaker 1: went for Andre, didn't be Sev. Wasn't Brian there? I
- 35:55Speaker 1: think so for that yeah, thy Law? Yeah, right, more
- 35:58Speaker 1: oh pieces, and then the player has like a the
- 36:03Speaker 1: player has a big party that they actually this is
- 36:08Speaker 1: another thing where I hate what how they do it, Paul,
- 36:11Speaker 1: you know into the Hall of Fame, right, and then
- 36:14Speaker 1: you have these parties after the thing and the player
- 36:17Speaker 1: has to go around and like beg from money to
- 36:20Speaker 1: have this party's it's like weird they do, yeah, but
- 36:25Speaker 1: I don't remember that with that. Yeah, it's like you know,
- 36:27Speaker 1: like unless they have all this money them like they
- 36:30Speaker 1: get contributions, don't they. I'm not telling you one. Yeah,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I went to Tippets because I was sent me to
- 36:38Speaker 1: cover that one. His party afterwards was just him like
- 36:42Speaker 1: taking pictures and signing autographs for people. He wasn't asking
- 36:46Speaker 1: anybody for money that I can record. No, no, no,
- 36:47Speaker 1: before like to get the party going, Like your party
- 36:51Speaker 1: is only as big as how much money you can spend. Oh,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I don't know. I j Jerry didn't have to go around.
- 36:59Speaker 1: When Jared got in, his thing was a blowout. It
- 37:01Speaker 1: was like it was unbelievable. And then you have other
- 37:04Speaker 1: guys that just don't have the money, and you know
- 37:07Speaker 1: it's just like a small affair. You know, Seymour got
- 37:11Speaker 1: that stimulus package, right, Yeah, he should be all right
- 37:15Speaker 1: poker money to me, they should have one party for everybody,
- 37:18Speaker 1: you know, big huge place and you have your areas,
- 37:21Speaker 1: like here's the Jerry Jones area, here's the Tippet you
- 37:24Speaker 1: know you want to mingle with those other teams. Yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 1: and you know he should be at the Hall of Fame.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Should be just a Patriots. It should be a galla
- 37:35Speaker 1: for everybody with the different areas or tables for the
- 37:39Speaker 1: families of each and duct in ducteed, you know, like
- 37:42Speaker 1: to force these guys to have to put together their
- 37:44Speaker 1: own party kind of like kind of like at a
- 37:46Speaker 1: wedding one that you're either here for the bride or
- 37:48Speaker 1: the groom. You're like, oh, you're here for the tippets,
- 37:50Speaker 1: so you're here for the sea. Yeah, well set you
- 37:53Speaker 1: over here. Seymour's the Brady one though, I mean, twenty
- 37:56Speaker 1: twenty seven probably start playing that one now, which twenty
- 38:00Speaker 1: nine take them a couple of years when it comes back.
- 38:03Speaker 1: When he comes back back, I mean if Mac doesn't,
- 38:06Speaker 1: you know, I mean, right the clock resets, what are
- 38:09Speaker 1: the chances the h I quick? Can I tell quick
- 38:13Speaker 1: a side story that made me think up just a
- 38:15Speaker 1: little quick funny side you brought up on your tippet. Um.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So I was dropping off my son at middle at
- 38:20Speaker 1: elementary school a couple of mornings ago, you know, and
- 38:22Speaker 1: they do like a whole like drive thing drop off,
- 38:24Speaker 1: and then they block off the intersection, you know, and
- 38:26Speaker 1: so I basically just get out. So I'm going out,
- 38:30Speaker 1: they're waving me through, and then all of a sudden,
- 38:31Speaker 1: this giant car like kind of cuts me off, as
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know. The thing. I'm like what's this guy doing,
- 38:38Speaker 1: like like any fifty six? It was my town, my
- 38:43Speaker 1: neighbor tippet. Uh kind of looked at each other like
- 38:46Speaker 1: give them the bird. Too smart for that. It took
- 38:49Speaker 1: me a second to figure out, but I was just
- 38:51Speaker 1: it's random and interactions with a lottery tipping. You brought
- 38:54Speaker 1: something up. That's another one of my pet peeves. I
- 38:56Speaker 1: could tell us school drop off? Yeah, oh boy, what
- 39:00Speaker 1: happened to the bus? Why can't these kids? Why did
- 39:02Speaker 1: they have to have be chauffeured by their parents so
- 39:04Speaker 1: that it blocks traffic every day? What's that all about?
- 39:09Speaker 1: You know, kids? The kids are too good to be
- 39:12Speaker 1: on the bus anymore. You can't. You know, I still
- 39:14Speaker 1: see school buses driving. Oh they have them, but there's
- 39:17Speaker 1: so many that don't take the bus that it creates
- 39:20Speaker 1: this whole other traffic my choice, you mean, yeah, it's
- 39:22Speaker 1: all it's all a nightmare. You gotta pay for the
- 39:24Speaker 1: bus now, like my middle schoolers on the bus. But
- 39:26Speaker 1: he's like sometimes like I didn't have a seat on
- 39:28Speaker 1: the bus, Like how do you not have a seat
- 39:29Speaker 1: on the bus, Like, you know, we gotta pay like
- 39:31Speaker 1: six hundred bucks for the year for you just to
- 39:33Speaker 1: ride the bus and he doesn't even get a seat
- 39:35Speaker 1: on it. It's uh, is that what he told you?
- 39:37Speaker 1: It's a nightmare. I know. No one will let me
- 39:39Speaker 1: shoot down and fight somebody. Yeah, pull someone out of
- 39:43Speaker 1: the seat, suck it up. That first day, you gotta
- 39:45Speaker 1: kick somebody's ass here, you're gonna act like I'm on. Yeah,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I um, did you take a bus to school? Absolutely
- 39:51Speaker 1: every day? I mean I grew up in a small
- 39:53Speaker 1: city and just walked. But yeah, well, yeah, that's fine.
- 39:57Speaker 1: We didn't have school buses and Everett and all and all.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It's too small. There weren't like the yellow school buses
- 40:02Speaker 1: that that didn't exist at evert they had white super Well,
- 40:06Speaker 1: there were people that went like if you lived on
- 40:09Speaker 1: the other side of the city and you went to
- 40:11Speaker 1: like there was one accelerated program and that was it
- 40:15Speaker 1: happened to be at my elementary school, so I didn't
- 40:17Speaker 1: have to worry about it, and yes, I was in
- 40:19Speaker 1: it before you ask. But people that came from the
- 40:22Speaker 1: other side of the city, they took the regular MBTA buses.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Oh wow to the center school. Random. Yeah, I have
- 40:29Speaker 1: like a bus pass or your kid though probably free
- 40:32Speaker 1: at the time. Yeah, it might have been like a
- 40:34Speaker 1: dime random forget to get off the bus. You end
- 40:36Speaker 1: up in like downtown center. Oh yeah, good luck. These
- 40:42Speaker 1: things happened. But my kids took the bus to middle school.
- 40:45Speaker 1: That's it. We did the pick up and drop off
- 40:49Speaker 1: at elementary school, and then I had to school. When
- 40:53Speaker 1: I first started going to this school in New Jersey
- 40:55Speaker 1: as this Catholic school, it was far away, you know,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and I had a walk like quarters of a mile
- 41:01Speaker 1: up to Route nine. And my father asked the gas
- 41:04Speaker 1: station guy if I could just wait in the gas
- 41:06Speaker 1: station every day, and they said yes. And then finally
- 41:11Speaker 1: the bus route actually went down my street, like maybe
- 41:14Speaker 1: when I was in fifth grade or something, so I
- 41:16Speaker 1: didn't have to walk up to the gas station. Did
- 41:17Speaker 1: you talk about a whole different planet that they put
- 41:20Speaker 1: him the word and I grew up in I absolutely
- 41:22Speaker 1: know what you're talking about. Yeah, the local shop owner. Yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 1: my kid waiting to get in your gas station. Sure.
- 41:28Speaker 1: My elementary school was literally down the street and around
- 41:31Speaker 1: the corner. But I grew up on a busy street.
- 41:33Speaker 1: In the street around the corner was the main street
- 41:36Speaker 1: in Everett. It was like Route ninety nine. Yeah, and
- 41:39Speaker 1: that was where I had to walk up my street,
- 41:41Speaker 1: take a left and go up Broadway to the Center school.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I mean in kindergarten. I was five. Yeah, my mother
- 41:48Speaker 1: crossed me across the street and said, have a good day, honey.
- 41:52Speaker 1: You want you want to hear real crazy? And my
- 41:54Speaker 1: parents were strict. My my my father had a hardware
- 41:57Speaker 1: store in Brooklyn, Okay, in the city, and I go
- 42:01Speaker 1: in there and work. When I was a little kid,
- 42:03Speaker 1: first grade, they put me on the subway to get
- 42:05Speaker 1: sandwiches for people. And I go to this place that
- 42:09Speaker 1: they you know, and I go get the sandwiches for
- 42:12Speaker 1: everybody and bring them back first grade or on the
- 42:14Speaker 1: subway by myself with money in my pocket. Oh god,
- 42:18Speaker 1: I mean that's great. That tops me, you know, that
- 42:20Speaker 1: tops me. It's like you would never do that now,
- 42:23Speaker 1: and I can understand that, but back then you could
- 42:26Speaker 1: do it. So you went from all that to East Dennis.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It was not a was not a crazy transition for
- 42:30Speaker 1: you going form like a city to living in the
- 42:32Speaker 1: middle of No Ara. Oh no, he worked in the city.
- 42:34Speaker 1: We lived in the suburbs of New Jersey. Yeah, yeah, yea.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Knowing how dead it is down there, the subway didn't
- 42:42Speaker 1: always have a great reputation back then either. Though. Oh
- 42:45Speaker 1: maybe my father didn't like me. I don't know, but
- 42:49Speaker 1: maybe he won't come home back. We stop on the
- 42:55Speaker 1: Orange Line all the time. We'd go to Bruins like
- 42:57Speaker 1: we were like eight, nine, ten years old, Like the
- 42:58Speaker 1: Saturday Mattinee Bruins games. Me and like four or five
- 43:01Speaker 1: of my friends. We go to Wellington, jump on the
- 43:03Speaker 1: Orange Line, three three or four stops in North Station.
- 43:06Speaker 1: We go to the Bruins game again. Yeah, have a
- 43:08Speaker 1: good time. Yeah you need, you need any money, you know.
- 43:11Speaker 1: But you know, I remember the remember the upper Balcony
- 43:14Speaker 1: and the old Garden six bucks, and we used to
- 43:16Speaker 1: go there by the middle of the second period. We'd
- 43:18Speaker 1: eye outload seats that were empty. We'd go down and
- 43:23Speaker 1: then we get on the train and go back. Like
- 43:24Speaker 1: I'm talking ten years old. That's why city kids are
- 43:27Speaker 1: so different. Like I grew up the suburbs. I was
- 43:28Speaker 1: like in high school taking the Green Line in from Wellesley,
- 43:31Speaker 1: like oh God, oh God, we're going into the city,
- 43:33Speaker 1: you know, like you just But it's funny because I
- 43:35Speaker 1: never thought anything of the Orange Line because I was
- 43:38Speaker 1: at like the you know, Wellington Sullivan North Station, you know.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And then like everybody always talked about the orange line
- 43:44Speaker 1: on the orange you don't go on the orange, right.
- 43:46Speaker 1: I was like, wow, I never had a problem. And
- 43:48Speaker 1: then you get a little older and you start doing
- 43:51Speaker 1: like construction jobs in Boston, you go into like Washington
- 43:53Speaker 1: and Dudley and you're right, oh, this is what they're
- 43:56Speaker 1: talking about. Not all that safe. YEA one more thing
- 44:00Speaker 1: Germany with with the announcement, Yeah, two games, that's some
- 44:03Speaker 1: exciting news. Uh. Oh, we gotta talk about Goodell, but
- 44:07Speaker 1: anyone boy? Um yeah, he announced that Munich is going
- 44:11Speaker 1: to be the place where they're gonna play a game
- 44:12Speaker 1: in Germany this year, Frankfort next year. Then I'll go back.
- 44:16Speaker 1: They'll rotate. Um. So that's big news. Yeah yeah, Munich,
- 44:20Speaker 1: uh and then Frankfurt. So what uh I mean? I
- 44:23Speaker 1: guess I asked Eric what would be uh what would
- 44:25Speaker 1: be the difference in the two cities? Are you any uh? Yeah?
- 44:27Speaker 1: Munich is kind of like you're when you think of
- 44:30Speaker 1: like the later Hosen and the beer halls and like
- 44:34Speaker 1: that's Bavaria. Munich is kind of like the capital of
- 44:37Speaker 1: that area. So you you're thinking like this sort of
- 44:40Speaker 1: like the the image you have in your mind of Germany.
- 44:43Speaker 1: That's kind of Munich. Frankfurt's more like business ey industrial,
- 44:47Speaker 1: like the airports. There a lot of major connections going
- 44:49Speaker 1: through there. So I don't know if there's as much
- 44:51Speaker 1: character in Frankfort as there would be in Munich. Munich
- 44:55Speaker 1: has the bigger stadium. Sure, Munich has Bayern Munich, which
- 44:58Speaker 1: they're the Bundesliga champs, so they they have nice facilities
- 45:02Speaker 1: there and I think that probably helped sway the judges.
- 45:06Speaker 1: But I think they both were strong bidders, so that's
- 45:09Speaker 1: why they did both for the next four year. And
- 45:11Speaker 1: they also didn't rule out revisiting Dusseldorf. Good, so we
- 45:14Speaker 1: can do our right that we have this whole thing
- 45:19Speaker 1: planned though, we're gonna have Deuce being a Deuce and
- 45:22Speaker 1: Duseldorf and he's gonna be our man Onderstrass, going to
- 45:27Speaker 1: go around asking questions, his waving his hands back. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: I haven't agreed to this yet, but they haven't. Every day,
- 45:35Speaker 1: what do you have to live for? Fair enough? Fair enough? Yeah?
- 45:38Speaker 1: And then we also heard from our guy Matisse who's
- 45:41Speaker 1: helping out today. Right, it does look like him doesn't
- 45:44Speaker 1: it um that, Uh, the Tottenham Stadium in London is
- 45:50Speaker 1: thinking about bidding on a Super Bowl. Wow, that would
- 45:53Speaker 1: be weird. So what do you think of that? I
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't like that. I don't like change the game will
- 45:58Speaker 1: be at two am? Yeah, I don't like that. Yeah,
- 46:01Speaker 1: that like they would have to probably think about changing
- 46:03Speaker 1: the kickoff time for that, right because if they did
- 46:06Speaker 1: it at if they did the regular kickoff time six
- 46:09Speaker 1: six twenty eight, right, that'd be like eleven thirty at
- 46:12Speaker 1: night over there. They're not gonna be playing the game
- 46:14Speaker 1: at eleven thirty at night, So if they did it
- 46:15Speaker 1: at six thirty over there, that's like one thirty in
- 46:17Speaker 1: the afternoon over here, which I don't mind. Fine, that's
- 46:20Speaker 1: like that's the way you used to be, right, So
- 46:23Speaker 1: I liked it, but that would be I mean, just
- 46:27Speaker 1: just thoughts on having the game not in the United States. Yeah.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I remember when they changed it to four o'clock one
- 46:32Speaker 1: year and I was like what is this? I mean later,
- 46:37Speaker 1: London's a fun city. I mean, it wouldn't be a
- 46:40Speaker 1: bad place to have events and things like would you
- 46:43Speaker 1: go would you be more willing to go to a
- 46:46Speaker 1: Super Bowl as a fan I'm just saying, would you
- 46:48Speaker 1: be willing to go to a Super Bowl if your
- 46:50Speaker 1: team wasn't in it, if it were in a place
- 46:53Speaker 1: like like that, Sure I would be less willing because
- 46:56Speaker 1: I think it would be more expensive. Oh yeah, like
- 47:00Speaker 1: if I Wasnause's the way Eric put that up there.
- 47:04Speaker 1: So you're not a fan of either team, obviously, If
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'm a fan of the team, yeah, you're gonna doesn't matter, right,
- 47:10Speaker 1: But if I'm looking to go to the Super Bowl
- 47:11Speaker 1: as a neutral fan, I don't think London, would you know,
- 47:15Speaker 1: Europe would probably would be far more expensive. Yeah, sure,
- 47:18Speaker 1: just a flight alone. Yeah. Um. And then Goodell had
- 47:22Speaker 1: his annual Super Bowl press conference and Ben Voland got
- 47:27Speaker 1: up and asked that the flight Gate question, and Goodell
- 47:29Speaker 1: got away with it with, you know, just sidestepping the
- 47:33Speaker 1: whole question. The question wasn't about the spot checks. It
- 47:36Speaker 1: was about you said that they were going to do
- 47:38Speaker 1: a year long study on whether or not whether effects
- 47:42Speaker 1: the PSIG balls and the data was is gone. That's
- 47:48Speaker 1: what Voland was asking about. I wasn't asking about whether
- 47:51Speaker 1: there were violations and spot checks. Just answer the question
- 47:54Speaker 1: you wish you were asked, right, That's what he does
- 47:58Speaker 1: that and he's good at Hey, he would what would
- 48:02Speaker 1: be and you're not allowed follow ups? That's right. What
- 48:06Speaker 1: would be more acceptable is if he wasn't so smarmy
- 48:10Speaker 1: when he did it. Yeah, he's always so condescending, like
- 48:13Speaker 1: you know, like like I don't really I thought about
- 48:20Speaker 1: if flaky other than maybe your last question last year,
- 48:23Speaker 1: I don't know, but um uh we wu. We were
- 48:26Speaker 1: very clear that we were going to do spot checks
- 48:28Speaker 1: to make sure that people were following the policy. That's
- 48:30Speaker 1: not the question. That is something that we fully uh
- 48:34Speaker 1: engaged in, and I don't know what happened to the data.
- 48:37Speaker 1: To be honest with you, we don't look back at that.
- 48:39Speaker 1: We just make sure there's no violations. That's the purpose
- 48:42Speaker 1: of the spot checks. Are there violations, and if there
- 48:44Speaker 1: are violations, we need to look into it. But thankfully
- 48:47Speaker 1: we did not see any, thankfully, and by that time
- 48:51Speaker 1: the person would you know, right right? Yeah, I mean basically, look,
- 49:00Speaker 1: no one wants to talk about the flake gate, I
- 49:01Speaker 1: get it, right, you know, and every um and I
- 49:04Speaker 1: don't know if it's like this right now because of COVID,
- 49:07Speaker 1: but in general terms, that stated the League addressed there
- 49:10Speaker 1: was a question about all thirty two teams because a
- 49:12Speaker 1: beat writer from the town of every team is going
- 49:15Speaker 1: to ask a question. And then you used to get
- 49:17Speaker 1: all the Sam Farmer questions about La right. Oh yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 1: before the Rams moved back to La. Right, that was
- 49:23Speaker 1: the press conference, and then you get like the foreign
- 49:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you got plenty of that inquiries. Yeah, and
- 49:29Speaker 1: I thought I thought he was. He definitely got out
- 49:32Speaker 1: of the whole Flores thing, you know, when they immediately
- 49:36Speaker 1: came out there is no thing here, and then the
- 49:38Speaker 1: next day we're gonna look into this, and he said, well,
- 49:41Speaker 1: that first statement was about the what the legal part
- 49:45Speaker 1: of it, and then but the other thing, the whole
- 49:50Speaker 1: it's it's you know, obviously we're worried about that, but
- 49:53Speaker 1: the part. But they should the basis, they should think
- 49:57Speaker 1: about those things before they put the statements out right
- 49:59Speaker 1: that may themselves. What he's talking about is there's nothing,
- 50:03Speaker 1: there was nothing um unto would about what the giants did.
- 50:08Speaker 1: That's what the statement was. Right then you know, two
- 50:11Speaker 1: days later he's talking about we need to fix what's
- 50:14Speaker 1: obviously a problem. Right. It's two different things, two different things,
- 50:17Speaker 1: right exactly, you know, just again stupid on the league's part.
- 50:22Speaker 1: I've always just knee jerk reaction. Nothing get defensive, you know, yeah,
- 50:28Speaker 1: watch watch the Magic Trick. I do so anyway, all right,
- 50:33Speaker 1: five five Pats five hundred is the ACE ticket hut
- 50:35Speaker 1: Line web radio at Patriots dot com as the email address.
- 50:39Speaker 1: We got all that stuff that any and all of
- 50:42Speaker 1: it you can bring up. So let's go to our
- 50:45Speaker 1: listeners will start with Patty and Agawam on the aceh
- 50:48Speaker 1: ticket hut Line. What's up, Patty, what's going on? Guys? Hey, Hey,
- 50:55Speaker 1: I just want to sort of parent your guys concerned.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Sorry it's a little bit loud where I am, but
- 51:01Speaker 1: I just kind of want to cart your guys concerned
- 51:03Speaker 1: about not naming an offensive and defensive coordinator. And to me,
- 51:07Speaker 1: it's not you know, it's not about redundancy. And I
- 51:13Speaker 1: know you guys have brought the stuff. It's more or
- 51:14Speaker 1: less about accountability and PAULI I know, like you had
- 51:19Speaker 1: to laugh when somebody had brought up about how Build
- 51:25Speaker 1: relinquished control to the defense after the seven game winning streaking.
- 51:29Speaker 1: To me, I mean, it's absurd because if if there's
- 51:32Speaker 1: not a coordinator in name in its title, he's the
- 51:35Speaker 1: default defensive coordinator. So any any sort of blame, any
- 51:38Speaker 1: sort of you know, shade for lack of better terms,
- 51:43Speaker 1: that you want to throw on the team. I mean,
- 51:44Speaker 1: it starts with him, it starts at the top um.
- 51:47Speaker 1: He's the one that's overseen everything as far as beyond
- 51:49Speaker 1: the field product. And yeah, I just I hope, I
- 51:55Speaker 1: hope they named somebody at some point soon, hopefully before
- 51:59Speaker 1: the start of the year, even if it is deep.
- 52:01Speaker 1: You know, I don't really care whether or not they
- 52:03Speaker 1: name anybody. I just care that they win games. And
- 52:07Speaker 1: you know, like if they don't win games, then maybe
- 52:10Speaker 1: that's the reason. I don't know, but but I don't
- 52:12Speaker 1: know if that's gonna be the reason why they do
- 52:13Speaker 1: win games if they name a coordinator, you know, just
- 52:18Speaker 1: never changed. No, but they've they've had years we went
- 52:20Speaker 1: down there, They've had years where they didn't and they won't.
- 52:23Speaker 1: But like, before it happens and before the results speak
- 52:27Speaker 1: for you know, obviously, I don't think anybody that's rooting
- 52:30Speaker 1: for the Patriots would say I'd rather have a named
- 52:32Speaker 1: defensive coordinator than win games. Yeah, I don't think there's
- 52:35Speaker 1: anybody out there who roots with the Patriots that would say, yeah, yeah,
- 52:38Speaker 1: they won, but they don't have a named defensive coordinator,
- 52:40Speaker 1: so I wasn't really unsuccessful. I'm asking, do you think
- 52:44Speaker 1: it is a problem. I think I think it's better
- 52:46Speaker 1: to have someone who is a good coordinator, you know,
- 52:52Speaker 1: And for whatever reason, in all those years, Bill didn't
- 52:56Speaker 1: think that he had someone in staff that was worthy
- 52:59Speaker 1: of the title at that point. Yeah. See, I'm not
- 53:02Speaker 1: worried about a title. I'm worried about is there a guy? Yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 1: and I think there are two guys. And I think
- 53:07Speaker 1: that's the difference between all of the other years that
- 53:09Speaker 1: you did a lot of research. But I think that's
- 53:12Speaker 1: the difference. I don't think that, Patricia, I think a guy.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I think it's one. I don't you think it's Bill. Yeah,
- 53:19Speaker 1: I think Bill is in charge of the defense guys
- 53:22Speaker 1: only during the seven game winning and these guys carry
- 53:25Speaker 1: out what what he wants to do. But I I
- 53:28Speaker 1: and if he wants to stick with that, fine, But
- 53:30Speaker 1: I think the operation needs to be smoother, needs to
- 53:34Speaker 1: be improved, needs however you want to characterize it, because
- 53:37Speaker 1: it looks it looked from Afar like the operation wasn't
- 53:40Speaker 1: always it was sloppy. They were not. Let's put it.
- 53:45Speaker 1: And I know I said this a million times during
- 53:47Speaker 1: the course of this season. If the things that happened
- 53:49Speaker 1: to the Patriots last year, from start to finish, happened
- 53:53Speaker 1: to another team, you would have considered it poorly coached.
- 53:57Speaker 1: But because Bill Belichick is the coach, we don't look
- 53:59Speaker 1: at it that way. We say things that were uncharacteristic
- 54:02Speaker 1: of a Belichick coach team, and he has earned that right.
- 54:07Speaker 1: He has earned that right. But forget there not having
- 54:11Speaker 1: enough guys in the field. I mean, the special teams
- 54:14Speaker 1: were abysmal, the penalties, pre snap penalties, the beginning of
- 54:18Speaker 1: the season, you know, the way that they came out
- 54:21Speaker 1: and were sloppy early on the end of the season. Defense,
- 54:25Speaker 1: there was nothing that screamed to you this team is
- 54:28Speaker 1: really well coached in twenty twenty one. And I know
- 54:32Speaker 1: I used to We used to have a little funny
- 54:34Speaker 1: back and forth when we tape our TV show. Every week,
- 54:37Speaker 1: Mike and I have to do a debate, and every
- 54:40Speaker 1: week the producer of the show, Don Maxon, who is awesome,
- 54:45Speaker 1: provides us all kinds of information. Every week. He would suggest,
- 54:48Speaker 1: is this Belichick's best coaching season? And I would say
- 54:52Speaker 1: I'm not arguing that because I'm not going on TV
- 54:54Speaker 1: saying no, it's not good, So I don't want to
- 54:59Speaker 1: do that. But yeah, that like again, when you when
- 55:02Speaker 1: you get you know, multiple punts blocked and line up
- 55:06Speaker 1: over the center on on a on a missed field
- 55:09Speaker 1: goal and stuff like that. We would laugh at a
- 55:12Speaker 1: second year to coach in Cleveland for having that happen
- 55:15Speaker 1: and say, look at how Mike McCarthy just just no
- 55:19Speaker 1: feel for the game, like just no fred kersh no
- 55:22Speaker 1: feel for the game, just poorly coached. And that's what
- 55:25Speaker 1: we do. But with Belichick, we just say I'm characteristic
- 55:28Speaker 1: of a Belichick coach team. Yeah, I think he had
- 55:30Speaker 1: a bad year. Yeah, I agree with everything you said, Paul.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And that's and you know, at the core of it.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Does it really probably make a difference really if they
- 55:37Speaker 1: name the coordinator. Is that more a superficial thing that
- 55:40Speaker 1: we want to hear. I don't know, but something has
- 55:43Speaker 1: to change. Maybe everybody's on the same page on third
- 55:45Speaker 1: And that's what I worry laid out right, absolutely, that's
- 55:52Speaker 1: what I worry about. And again I don't need to
- 55:54Speaker 1: go thirteen and three and say, well it wasn't a problem.
- 55:56Speaker 1: I don't know. If it wasn't a problem, maybe they
- 55:58Speaker 1: should have gone sixteen And Oh, I don't know. I
- 56:01Speaker 1: know they're gonna win games because a Belichick is a
- 56:05Speaker 1: great coach. I know that. I don't have to see
- 56:08Speaker 1: him coach to know that he is a great coach.
- 56:10Speaker 1: And he's gonna come up with things that we don't
- 56:12Speaker 1: see and know about. We can't like, you know, they're intangible.
- 56:16Speaker 1: You can't know like, oh, did you see exactly how
- 56:19Speaker 1: he set up his game plan that stop you? We don't.
- 56:22Speaker 1: We don't know football like that. I know he's gonna
- 56:25Speaker 1: do that a lot during the course of the year
- 56:27Speaker 1: because that's what he does. Yeah, Freddy, do you not
- 56:29Speaker 1: put any any credence into like just having that one
- 56:32Speaker 1: voice because I know, like I do, I do, and
- 56:36Speaker 1: I think Bill is it I And if you're gonna
- 56:39Speaker 1: you're gonna lay blame it, it needs to be Bill.
- 56:42Speaker 1: I think on defense this year the one voice was Bill. No.
- 56:45Speaker 1: I think after the Dallas game that became Bill, but
- 56:49Speaker 1: I think before that there was communication problems. And I
- 56:52Speaker 1: think that third and twenty five is my play. Yeah,
- 56:55Speaker 1: that's my scarlet legs Patty, Let's go to William and Philham.
- 57:00Speaker 1: What's up? William? Well, you got a name for me everything?
- 57:05Speaker 1: That's that's because I love you. I only give names
- 57:08Speaker 1: to people that you know I have affection for. Okay,
- 57:12Speaker 1: I don't know how to take that time. Okay, um
- 57:20Speaker 1: so um. I had many topics, but I'm just gonna
- 57:23Speaker 1: just say too. One is um I want. I would
- 57:27Speaker 1: want Bill O'Brien, you know, not just because of connections
- 57:30Speaker 1: and ties with Almammber, because didn't he didn't Matt teach
- 57:34Speaker 1: uh Bill O'Brian the playbook p Alabama del so they
- 57:38Speaker 1: sat down together. Yes, Okay, so you know, I just
- 57:42Speaker 1: think for a lot of reason today he would fit.
- 57:44Speaker 1: But I also think Bill O'Brien might want them, say,
- 57:48Speaker 1: you know, so that the front table basin has some
- 57:50Speaker 1: say about what what weapons you bringing in on office?
- 57:54Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like he might want to
- 57:55Speaker 1: hand some say that. And I don't know if Bill
- 57:57Speaker 1: going out there, you know all. I mean, has anybody
- 58:01Speaker 1: asked Bill O'Brien whether or not he wants to come
- 58:03Speaker 1: back here? I mean people always just assume that because
- 58:07Speaker 1: there's a job opening with the Patriots, everyone's gonna stop
- 58:09Speaker 1: what they're doing and run back to Foxburg. Well, I
- 58:11Speaker 1: mean that is a no, I know, and you're right,
- 58:14Speaker 1: and like it, does he want to come back? I
- 58:17Speaker 1: think Bill and Saban kind of have an agreement. We're
- 58:20Speaker 1: not going to take each other's guys unless it's really
- 58:23Speaker 1: gonna be beneficial. I mean, you know, yeah, And there
- 58:25Speaker 1: have been Alabama coaches. I've come here, Bison Series one
- 58:29Speaker 1: that comes to immediately to mine um and obviously guys
- 58:33Speaker 1: from here have gone down there. But here's here's what
- 58:35Speaker 1: I'm most worried about. When it comes to the offense.
- 58:38Speaker 1: For a long time, Bill has been able to just say, Josh,
- 58:41Speaker 1: you got it right, I don't need to worry about it.
- 58:43Speaker 1: And and now this year, I'm not so sure about that.
- 58:46Speaker 1: So if if I'm correct and Bill is the defense,
- 58:50Speaker 1: and now he has to worry about that too, even
- 58:53Speaker 1: if it's a little bit, that's not good. Yeah, that's
- 58:56Speaker 1: not good. So that's where Paul might be you know,
- 59:00Speaker 1: could they be bringing in somebody else still that could
- 59:03Speaker 1: be just so Bill can say I still don't have
- 59:06Speaker 1: to worry about the offense, because right now I think
- 59:09Speaker 1: he does. Speaking of just bringing everybody back Evidently, Albert
- 59:12Speaker 1: Brier is saying that he thinks it's possible Scott Pioli
- 59:14Speaker 1: could return to help the Patriots front office. Wow, thanks, William, Oh,
- 59:19Speaker 1: i'd be all, how does how does he mesh with
- 59:22Speaker 1: with Patricia? You know? That's wow? I don't know. Yeah,
- 59:26Speaker 1: that'd be cool because I know I know Scott. Once
- 59:28Speaker 1: he's here, he's gonna he's a he's an alpha. Yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 1: he's gonna want his way somewhere else. You know. No, No,
- 59:35Speaker 1: she just likes that. He'll make fun of me. And
- 59:38Speaker 1: I was good at say, like built in relationship. I
- 59:41Speaker 1: just remember that. Oh you think that you always were
- 59:44Speaker 1: impressed with how much I talked to Scott Pioli never
- 59:48Speaker 1: again the last three Yeah, I no, no, I know
- 59:49Speaker 1: that's that was like the first time you said, oh,
- 59:51Speaker 1: now you'll talk to him, how you talk to me?
- 59:53Speaker 1: I just remember that when the Falcons hired Pioli and
- 59:56Speaker 1: they had this like pick up Dimitrov picks him up
- 59:59Speaker 1: at the air report and they had like the two
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: of them in the car and Pioli is just like
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: taking the lead. He's like, we've got a lot of
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: work to do, and I'm thinking, what's Demotrov thinking about this.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: You know, you you come in here in your first
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: day and you're telling me that I remember you know, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: that kind of was. It's interesting. It seems like Pioli's
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: kind of enjoying the TV life now in the medium Yeah,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: background of pr before we got into Y Yeah, I
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: didn't know that. Yeah, yeah, I didn't know that either.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: But but he was a delight when I talked to
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: him for that two thousand and one. Just delight, delight,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: loved it, loved it. Yestuce phrases. It's a delight. All right,

- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Eric and Paul show a feeling for the league. Jacksonville
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: wins this game. They do, in fact, get that I
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: took the Houston points. What about the cover? I took
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: the huston and a half Jacksonville by three and a half. Yeah,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: you took Jacksonville. So you want the point? You lay
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: in the points. If we leave this, they're gonna they're
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: gonna win by more. He's winning on both sides. Ladies
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: and gentlemen, he's winning. They're gonna win. Now. You don't
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: want to know why I have that face. Some of
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: these are not intentions. Um yeah, uh, this is your
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: lock of the week, upset lock of the week Pittsburgh
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: over the Titans. What was the spread to two? Huge
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: upset too? The New England money's not coming in, so
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: that worries me. That worries me in this game. What
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: do they know? What do they know? But I'm gonna
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: say nothing. They know nothing. I thought you were gonna
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: say nothing. Yeah, and he's done that plenty. Yeah, Patriots
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: prevail twenty eight nineteen Patriots. My favorite part of the
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Friends when he when he gives picks on games that
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: there's some thought too, like that one. Right, He's tortured
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: for for a minute and then it's really you go
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: either way and then for a two score win. Right. Yeah,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: that's another great moment from all right back here and
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Patriots and Filtered. Of course we'll give our Super Bowl
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: picks later in the show. So can't wait for that.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Excited excite, I'm excited for the game. Yeah, I'm just
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: sitting myst and watch some wings. Yeah. I hope it's
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: a good game. Yeah, but it's a nice entertaining game.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: And will you watch all the pregame stuff how? I
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: mean a usually it starts at noon. Yeah I don't
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: it'll be on yeah, but wat Yeah. And you know
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: what the shame of that is is they do some
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: really good features they doing. There's some really good stuff.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: There was one year. I forget the details now, but
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: I was like crying my eyes out watching one of those.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I know that, Like that makes me soft, I know,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: but this this might come as soft, This might come
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: as a shock to most, but I'm somewhat emotional. Yeah,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I know that that might be hard to believe. Well,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: emotional goes both ways. Yeah, it's not like Andy hard emotion,
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: like he just has a sugar crash and falls. But
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: they have a lot of good stuff on those pregame
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: shows that I don't think a lot of people even see, right,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: because who's sitting down? You're at all day? Yeah, they
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: gotta fill the time. You don't have to have a
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: pregame show for six hours, that's true, but they get
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: the advertising dollars in there, so they say, well, let's
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: add an hour, let's add another hour. Yea. Before you
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: know it, it's it's it's a lot of money to
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: wake up Super Bowl Sunday morning and you got your
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: it was, you know, And I think to Eric's point,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: he's right, I think it was. Not sure. I think
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: it was last year the most watched pregame show between
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: two and three pm Eastern, Even if it wasn't. I
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: usually try to stick with the network who has the game,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: you know, because ESPN will have it stuff chase the
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: game starts and you're not ready, you don't know how
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: to get it, but I just like to. I like
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: to be there where it is right now. I understand
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: where he's coming from. It. Yeah, like it's their responsibility
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: they're carrying, you know, Like the other networks are just
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: kind of like sort of like saying, hey, they got
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the game, but you can come watch us, whereas these
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: guys are like, we have everything that you need to
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: know about the game, and see here it's on, and
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: sure that's that Jack Collinsworth that we're gonna get the
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Jack the Jack collins Worth. A lot of you lot
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: might who's better than He'll be doing several features. I'm sure,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Oh I know, I think it's Peter King is doing
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: some of those vignettes. It's Peter King, al Michael's is
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: calling his what fourteenth super Bowl? Really? I think was
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: the number of that I saw? That's good around? Good
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: for him? Is this it for al Michaels? And will
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: they do a whole thing for uh Madden? Will they
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: do a big tribute for Madden? I would? I would?
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: I would assume sure, yeah, yeah, something either pregame or
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: you know, halftime, well not halftime, but like at some
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: point in the coverage is gonna do the the maddened
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: retrospective at half time? He'll play the game while smoking
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: a blin, a blunt, a blint, a Garrett Blu's, and
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: a Blintz Blintzes he said blins. So Eminem didn't show up.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Oh he's too good for this is what would you
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: say that? I agree? He is too good for it?
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Um in all seriousness, how do you feel about this? Matt?
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: He disappointed it all. He's not on the stage. By
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: the way, we're watching the Super Bowl half Prairie difference. Yeah,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: so they've got Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, doctor Dre
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: mj Acosta Ruiz one of the interviewers, and the other
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: guy from the morning show. Who's yeah, Kendricks. Kendrick's not there. Yeah,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that's true. This is the guy that's going to vote
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Hall of Famers just based on name. I don't know
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: the guy in Good Morning America, you know, yeah, he's
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: been on God he played baseball, right, yes, yeah, played
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: first base short stop for the Red Sox. That's right.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: His nickname was the Rooster. That's right, right, all right?
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Past five hundred is the a sticket hot wine. Let's
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: get back to the listeners. Todd's in North Carolina. Hey, Todd,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: you know why we listened to you because we get
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: those insights, like the little bit of a coaching thing
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: going on between Mayo and Belichick and stuff like that.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: And you know, you guys give us these insights, and
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: I think it's great. Now I do have a question.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: We don't know what we're talking about. By the way, Yeah,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: you know you gave us too much credit. Yeah, I
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: always do. But that's okay. You guys are worth it anyway.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: Mister Hart, you aforementioned the man feels that Bill Belichick
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: might be losing his fastball, hence the miss text to
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: the wrong person. You know, things just not as smooth
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: as they should be airs on the field, especially in
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: special teams, which is his baby. And so I was
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: listening to his last podcast and he he was really
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: convinced that, you know, Bill might not have his fastball anymore,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: and he was worried that Bill might try to take
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: on too much and was spending too much time protecting
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: his kids by being by not putting an OC or
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: a DC in there. So I don't know, what do
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: you guys think? Who knows? I mean, I I do
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: worry that he's spread, you know, especially now, Um, he's
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: going to be spread a little too thin. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I think last offseason was something positive that it had
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: been a common negative couple of years with Brady Levin
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: and missing the playoffs last year. So I think he
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: got a little boost last offseason, But then this season
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: really didn't get you back on that track. So I don't.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: I still I still believe that that he can do it. Um,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: but I think he's got a lot of work to do,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: and I think it's not it's not going to be
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: easy to just all of a sudden have this team
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: back up with Buffalo competing. You know, it's going to
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: take a couple of years. And I mean, I'm still
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: I still want to watch him do it. You just
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: said something that made me think. You know, you said
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: it's gonna take a couple of years. Okay, but in
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: ownership's mind that means four years, right? And how much
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: pressure is there on Bill Belichick to win now, you
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: know what I mean? And does that affect decision making? Yeah?
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: You know, I mean? And does he feel that pressure?
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: Does he feel he's just kind of in the golden
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: years where he's kind of playing with house money at
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: this point, and well, like I can take my time
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: and build or I can't take my time. It depends
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: on how many years he really thinks he's going to
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: continue to coach well, right, you know, like if it's
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: one or two years, there's a lot of pressure. Yeah,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: But if he thinks I'm not going anywhere. I got
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: five good years left, then yeah, well you got to
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: build it, you do. But is that okay? With the
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: crafts to train the new coaches, that might be a
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: lot for a seventy year old tab on his plate,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: right because he's got to train the new coaches, he's
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: got to oversee the entire team. He's still got the
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: GM hat so and he's like, okay, can he do
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: this all? And it was an interesting conversation with him
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: in Hannibal. Well, I'll take answer no, that's good, and
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: it's a it's a great point. And you know, you
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: look at bringing in Patricia last year. Maybe you bring
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: in a guy like that with the idea that he
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: can help me, he can help me train these coaches
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: or or whatever. I think that's a good point. I
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: think it's a little bit of both. If if i'm him,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: based on his age he's about to turn seventy in
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: the spring, there's a little bit of like, yeah, I've
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: you know, I'll leave when I want to. But I
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: think he also realizes like he's not gonna live forever,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: not gonna be around here forever. He's got a little
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: bit like the clock is kind of ticking a little
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: bit here. So I think he's it's it's a little
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: bit of both for him, Like he's he feels the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: need to to win now, which I think we saw
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: a little bit of with the way they went out
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: last year and we're trying to acquire all these pieces.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: But also I think he feels like, you know, when
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: once the season ends, all right, let's just turn around,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: let's start it all over again. Let's team But like
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I think he thinks of it still like as a
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: one off each year as a one off. Oh, I
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: agree with that. You know, I also wonder what what
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: parts of the job he really enjoys, what parts of
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: the job are tedious for him and hard to really
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: get right. The second part of that I'm really interested in,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: Like I wonder if there is stuff that you know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: he's never really loved and now that he's done it
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: for so long, that he really avoids. Yeah, because I
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: think there's a lot of aspects of coaching and team
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: building that he still loves. Fred and I talked about
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: us all the time, Like you just watched him, and
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: he's the same guy that we saw in like two
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: thousand and two. Like his approach, his demeanor, his enthusiasm,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: it's the same. But I wonder if there's elements of
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: the job that he's never really loved that he really
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: hates now after twenty five years or what, you know
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: what I mean. I mean, I think physically, I think
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: he's in good shape for a seventy year old guy.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: I think he's in really good shape. I don't see
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: you know, any drop off mentally, you know, at least
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: from what we see now, I don't think he had
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: a good season, you know, overall, I think I do
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: think he was the defensive coordinator, and I think the
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: defense fell apart, you know, so you can't say, oh,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: you know, he had him one of his best years coaching.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: I think if they had come on like they usually
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: do in December and at least won a playoff game,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: then okay, But they didn't. They did the opposite. They
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: fell off. The only game they won was against the
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: lowly Jaguars. Yeah, you know, down the stretch they played miserably.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: I guess if to answer your question, Paul, my guests
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: would be he the thing he probably hates the most
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: about being a coach now is having to deal with
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: all the contracts stuff and like, you know, the the
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: us enormity of contracts nowadays as opposed to when he
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: first started, and how that has played into the way
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: players act and having to corral you know what I mean,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Like that's probably changed. I would assume that's probably one
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: of the things. Yeah, I think that's a good point.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: I think that's I was thinking more along the lines
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: of the actually actual stuff like just you know, part
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: of the whole process. Like, I kind of wonder how
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: much he's still Like, I don't think he's ever really
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: loved you know, beating the bushes and you know pro
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: like he's generally gone to pro days to his buddies. Yeah,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: he's gone. He's used as as opportunities to go and
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: chat with Nick and you know there's other guys that
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: are on that list. Um, maybe he gets home around
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: his you know, Virginia area and Malan, Yeah, yeah, and whatnot.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: But I wonder if that kind of that he was
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: at a lot of those last year, remember, Yeah, I
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: wonder if that kind of stuff I could do without this.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: I think he likes that stuff. Actually, I think he
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: likes You might be right, I didn't like. I don't know.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I'm just speculating, I really do, I think. But I
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: think to Eric's point, like you know, dealing with like
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: guys off the field social media, you know, he's never
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: liked that. No, I agree, he's hated, but that's not
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: really to me. That's not really like I understand that
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: technically it's part of the job. I'm talking about actual football,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: like breaking down there parts of football. Yeah, I think
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: he loves it all. I really do. I believe him
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: when he says I love every aspect of it. Would
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: be a good question, though, because that whatever his answer
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: is would be I think enlightening. Yeah, you know, just
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: to get a little insight into his his lifestyle. Yeah,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's trying. And I think you
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: touched on a little erica of matching up a sense
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: of urgency that he's aware the end's coming. I've got
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: to get a team together in that time. And I think,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: like you said, last offseason, it felt like this is
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: what this is what somebody who wants to win within
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: the next few years is going to do. But I
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: also think that this team really really needs another really
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: great draft, and we've seen I mean last year was
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: kind of the outlier with multiple guys coming right in
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: contributing three guys that's you know, is he going to
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: be able to get that again? I think those are
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: what he needs to do. If it's if it's really
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I'll give you something that he probably dislikes, if not hates,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: is the rise of the quant you know, like that
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: whole thing, you know, and I know that they've hired
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: like people downstairs that like are more analytical, and it
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: could be like, Okay, you do your thing, I don't
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: want to have anything to do with it. That's probably
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: something where he's he's more hands off. I think that's
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: I think that's a good one. And I do think
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: that he doesn't ignore the numbers. No, we know that. No,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: but I think the way that they have become so prevalent,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: where there's so much scrutiny on why didn't he go
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: for that for you know, like all of a sudden,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you know, the last five years, that has really taken off.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: And I'll bet you that is something that Bill doesn't love.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: We've we've heard him make snarky comments kind of a
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: press conference those kind of up. It's not like the
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Patriots are ignoring that aspect. I know he doesn't ignore it. Yeah,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I know it, but I'm sure it's more like, all right,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: tell me when you get something really good. You know,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: he's not immersed in it. I can tell you that
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: we always seems much more of being in the flow
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: of the game, and you know, kind of just how
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: do I feel. I mean, he's probably he's watched a
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: billion football games and he's seen how they go and
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: you know, sometimes he's wrong, a lot of times he's right,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: but yeah, it's it's I think that's a great point.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: It's just so prevalent, and especially when you get rankings
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: where you're like, oh, yeah, one thing, one thing that
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I don't know if it was may or Judon, I
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: keep getting their interviews mixed up, but they mentioned specifically,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: you know, when teams had the RPOs we got, they've
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: got in bad, bad positions. Yeah, why why why did
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: you have trouble handling those RPOs? Because yeah, it is
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you have to really be, you know, paying attention because
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: anything can happen. But why specifically did that give this
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: team trouble? Yeah, you know, I don't know. I don't.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: I mean, schematically, I wish I could dive into a
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: dive tribe what they gotta do. But I mean, really,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: I just think it comes down to against those teams,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: they really just haven't been winning. They don't win one
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: on one battles, and I think that's the ultimate key
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: to defense is having guys that can win one on ones.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: And when you had bar More and you had jood
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: On playing well, and they were a load for one
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: blocker to handle, and then teams have to accommodate that.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: And I mean I think that that probably, to me,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: is the biggest connection. It's just not having a defense
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: that can really dictate to an offense. It just seemed
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: like last year down the stretch, they're on their heels
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: and teams are just kind of pick on their spots.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: It's very rare, like an H three, oh four, they
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: get a lead, it was over. He just knew it
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: was over. You know, they had those kinds of defense,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: but that was since then, They've never really had the
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: type of defense that goes out and we just do
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: what we do. It's always been a schematic type of
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: thing where you know what their offense has been their defense,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: right right, I think you know, starting around oh five,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: but really kicked in and oh six and then obviously
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: exploded in oh seven. Yeah, the offense has been the defense. Right.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: They get a lead, they beat you. They bludging you
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: to death by getting multiple score leads because you can't
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: stop them. And then they make you one dimensional. They
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: get after the quarterback, they forced turnovers, and the numbers
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: look great until a team doesn't allow the offense to
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: score at will. I would say in four team might
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: be exception when they brought in Rivas and they were better.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: They were just so good in one on one coverage
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: that it elevated the defense. And yeah, you're right, because
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: I'm not telling you they had the same defense from
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: six all the way to now. There were years like
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: like eleven was a really bad defense. They went to
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the Super Bowl fourteen that defense was much better than
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: the eleven defense, and they went to the Super Bowl
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: again at that time they won it. Right, So I'm
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: not telling you they had the same defense all the time.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: But the key to the team and the second part
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: of the dynasty was the offense, right, And that wasn't
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: the case in the first part. Now, and it just proves,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: you know, the point that we always makes a lot
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: of different ways to win. And they won three titles
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: doing it with defense first. They won three titles doing
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: it with offense first. You can you can do it
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: that way. What are the special teams first? This year?
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Eldred's on the line. What's up? Aldred? Hey? How you
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: doing it? How y'all doing good? Good? Yeah, I'm sorry
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Stewart training, but h get a little bit better. I'm
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: just a little nervous, a little worried because Uh, I
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: think Bill need to go hire an offensive coordinator. It's
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: taking banking Judge the offensive assistant because he didn't assist
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Daniel Jones and he's Joe didn't Brady when he was here.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: So I've just wandered to, you know, where could we
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: get one, a firm one? But this guy, uh promoting
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: from within? What do y'all think? Yeah, I don't know, Mike.
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Why don't you read that tweet that from Rappaport that
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: you were talking about? Yeah, that's lost. So there was
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: just Ryan Hannibal was m was tweeting out what Ian
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: Rappaport was saying on the radio, and I guess he said,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: it seems like, uh, Brill O'Brien is out of it.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: It's gonna be really just a kind of a group
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: effort between Judge and Nick Kaylee and Nick Lombardi and
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: those guys will do a little bit more. So that's
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: what Ian Rappaport saying today, that that it doesn't seem
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: like you're gonna hire another guy on offense, and it's
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: gonna a couple guys stepping up and Judge entering the
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: next Yeah, so that's like this, that'd be a lot
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: more Bill, and I think he got a little bit
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: too much on them now, to be honest. Yeah, because yeah,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: I really do this time in my hands off off
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: to him. But you have a strong draft and whatever
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: from that. But I just I just just doesn't thick it,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: you know. And this is gonna have to be a rebuild.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think, like I heard Fred
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: earlier about the craft they have to realize it just
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: had to be a rebuild. I mean a rebuilt, not
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: a reboot. So it's gonna be a while. That's why
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: I'm looking at you, okay, But but I'm hoping a
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: good all right, thanks Aldred. Yeah, I mean I do
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: wonder how the Crafts felt about this last season. There
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: were some certainly some ups. They spent a lot of money,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: there were some some dividends played early, but the ending
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: has to has to sting. Yeah, there's there's places to
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: go up all right. Web radio at Patriots dot com
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: is the email address. Ryan from Potstam writes in can
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: you get Paul a small raise and a budget to
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: have a second podcast where he can talk about the
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: league in general? I find his takes on other players,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: teams in other league stories not specific to the Patriots.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: Very fascinating. After about the tenth off seams of Mike
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: trying to convince everyone else that nameless, jag and undrafted
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: nobody is going to make an impact on the Patriots,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: talking about other teams regularly is refreshing. Wow. So a
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: little shot at Mike. There you go, So all right,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: thanks for nothing. Yeah, I gotta say I've died drove
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: into the draft. I'm all about these Ohio State Alabama
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: guys Like I'm I'm not going to try to sell
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: you on some random six round slot receiver. We need,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: we need a guy, thank you. All these teams have
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: a guy. You need a guy or two or two,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: but you need at least one guy, I think. Mike
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: writes in I just want to say I'm happy for
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Paul this past year. He's had some incredible moments. He
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: has his station, his shows, and now his quarterback Matt Stafford,
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: who I believe he wanted to trade Brady for. Finally
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: he makes the Super Bowl. No hard feeling, love you, Paul,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: But does he regret that opinion? I don't think so,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: of course I do on Brady won four titles since then.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Oh you at back back then you wanted to trade Oh,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: this is like two thy ten about that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: I first of all, trade him while he still him
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: saying that I love Stafford. That that's absolutely valid. I
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: like Matthew Stafford. I think he's a really good player
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: who was on a really bad team for the most part.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: But the part that I regret is I said on
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: the show that I would trade straight up Brady for Stafford.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: You know, thinking in terms of the age now, I
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: could be stubborn and say, yeah, but if he was here,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: if Bill got him, they would have won five Like, no,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: I could be an idiot, they'd still be winning him, right,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I could be an No, No, Brady won four titles.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: That that was a bad That was a bad take.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: Sometimes you just gotta take him. These people take notes though,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: like I don't even Oh, but that was Yeah, that
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: was a memorable law. That's another reason why you can't
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: be in charge of deciding who's in and who's out
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: of the Hall of Fame, Mike, Like, that was a
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: pretty big one. Where did I wanted to trade Brady
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: for Stafford? Where did Andy land on that? Did he? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: he mocked and rediculed me as he should. Yeah, but
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: he wanted Sam Bradford. He loved he loved Sam Bradford. Yeah,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I don't ever remember him saying that he was he
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: would trade him for but he was like a big
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Sam Bradford. It was one of those you know, I
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: didn't really I didn't go thinking I'm gonna say Brady
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: for stat like that kind of yew Stafford. I was
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: on Mount Mount Cook's out of nowhere I was. I
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: was talking up Stafford and Andy was bullying me as
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: he was wanted to do, and I said something that
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: I later regretted. Uh, the OG later like twenty minutes,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: and here you are, ten years later, taking Mike and
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: stinky Florida. Remember stinky Florida wasn't anything. He said that
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: Florida stinks like it just smells. Yeah. Yeah, anyway, he
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: writes in I want to write a book about my frustration,
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: but I'll try to make it quick. You guys spoke
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: about the defensive disaster in the playoff game, but seemed
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: to have conveniently forgotten the previous five to six pretty
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: poor games. No, we didn't we sit down the stretch.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: They played miserably. Yeah, except for Jaguars. It's funny how
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: many teams traits always associated with Bill Belichick. Team improves
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: through the year, best after Thanksgiving, never lose two in
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: a row, et cetera, et cetera. Seemed to be absent
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: since the departure of someone. I believe the biggest problem
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: with this team is the week coaching staff in locker
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: room issues which appear to go back to Malcolm Butler
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: and Mullet had funny face and something definitely happened after
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: the bye week this year. If Matt Patricia has a
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: role on defense, then they are all on crack. He
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: has proven a bad coach and an idiot. Oh, come on.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Reference is worse than BB's abuse of reporters. I'm very
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: grateful for the last twenty years, but every day feel
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: more and more that it was mostly due to the
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: luck of drafting number twelve. And by the way, just
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: for balance, I think TB twelve is a NOTT too.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: Do you offer a coupon code for thorough Gun? He
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: needs to much like Deuce, I have a short little
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: thorough Gun story. Um so TJ who he broke his finger.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: He was out for a month and he finally got cleared,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: so returned to practice his day. Now. TJ is a
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: little like his father. He's not generally the most physically
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: active type when he's not being forced too. So he
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: did very little over that month that he was out
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: um sore. He had Wednesday morning, he had football workouts
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: early morning, like five thirty am. He did that, and
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: then he had wrestling practice after school and did that
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: and ended up doing a rapp ton of running because
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: you know he's not, you know, really ready to go full.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: He could barely walk when he got when he got
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: in the house, broke out the Federy gun and he's
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: like like every time he like put it on his
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: thigh or whatever. He was trying to work it. But
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: he had the Federa gun going for a good half hour. Wow,
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: good battery, good battery life it does. So I'm always
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: sad when it. I'm happy with that we're pushing product
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: on this show. I tell you good. Strong endorsement from
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: t J. Parula. Not see any cash form, just like
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: my extra podcast. Right, but he went right over like
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: I was passed over. Mikey uh someone in the Bay Area.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: I'm surprised no one mentioned this on Tuesday. Did anyone
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: watch the thirty for thirty Tuck Rule that aired on Sunday.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: I loved it and it brought back memories instantly to
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: watching that infamous game that snowy night with family. You
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: haven't watched it. It's a sit down with Watch and
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: Charles Woodson as they relive the Tuck Rule play. It's
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: a must watch for Patriots fans. I started a couple
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: of weeks ago. Um, it's it's it's fine. I remember
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: I went into your office friend after I watched it.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: I said, there's a couple of a couple of lighthearted chuckles.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: The best moment, by far is when Charles Woodson, Charles
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Woodson sits down with Brady and they basically watched the
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: game and the play, and but Woodson gets Brady to
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: say say the word fumble, yeah, and he just jumps
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: all what what? What? What? He just like jumps all
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: over him. It was it was good. I thought, Um,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: there were a couple of things in it. Um. The
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: money takeaway is Brady says, had we lost that game,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: who knows, if I get the job, they might they
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: may have stuck with Drew. And of course Bill dismisses
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: the whole thing, and nothing would have changed, like, you know,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: completely ignored, and the fact that, well, history would have changed.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: You would have been knocked out of the first round.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: I personally think Drew still would have gone, but I
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: think it's a discussion if you lose that game. Yeah,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: that was one thing that I thought was really interesting
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Brady saying that. I think Brady was being a little
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: bit you know, political, good, good way to phrase it.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: And the other thing was, you know, there was a
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: lot made of that play, and Fred, you and I
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: talked about this. You had the same exact impression that
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: I did. There was a lot made of a well,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: it had happened at the Patriots earlier in the year
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: with Vinny Testaverdi. There was a play that he was involved.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: It was the same exact play. It was the same
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: exact play, and everybody always talks about it like they
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: just say it, well, well, in this documentary they actually
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: show the play. The only there's two things that they
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: have in common, one as it took place in an
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: NFL game, and the other one that was involved a quarterback.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: Right after that. There is no comparison between what happened
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: to Brady and what happened Tony Testaverdy. It was the
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: tough rule. But Testa Verdi's testa Verdie's song was coming forward.
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: The ball came out of his hand right. It was
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: a clear, incomplete pass. It was like, there'd be nobody again.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: I'll go back to my my dear suite on Carmela
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: would say, no, no, no, that's an incomplete pass. He
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: was throwing. The ball came out of his hand. Yeah,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: nothing other than it being called a tuck rule by
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: a quarterback, by a quarterback, it was not the same.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: It was not the same. And you know, and Bill
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: is like very smugly, yeah, well, well I knew right
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: away because we had had that happen earlier in the year.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: And it's the same call that they made against Testa Verdie.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: And like even Fred was like, can we stop. They
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: don't look anything alike. But but if you but it
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: was haven't seen if you haven't seen the thirty for
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: thirty in the tuck rule. And I know what aired
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Sunday night. Um, it's it's worth the investment. It's it's
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's not full hour. Yeah yeah, yeah, at
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: least I think it's an hour. Um, I got a
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: you know, I got a trailer which the mind and
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: I got. I got a screener. I call it screener. Yeah,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: very good ahead of time. So I don't really know.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I mean, who who quantifies time? I always thought when
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: they first came out they were all thirty minutes. I
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: thought that's what it was supposed to be about, right,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: But um Sloman goes on for current Patriots news, I
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: saw a clip of match Juden ninety eight point five
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: saying that individual Patriots late in the season, we're trying
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: to do their own thing to make plays instead of
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: doing what they're supposed to do in the role. I
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: thought that was an interesting comment in ironic since Kyle
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: van Noy made a slide no comment when asked recently
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: if Judon was playing out of what he was supposed
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: to do. That's what I thought of. Emailer, did you
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: catch the Judeon comments and thoughts? Is it possible multiple
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: players were trying to do too much on their own? Absolutely? Yeah.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: I mean I mean i'd maybe throw it like God,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: somebody like God cha in the mix, somebody who's not
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: really new to it. Who I think they have specific
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: things they want him to do. But I don't know.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: We have a budding little rivalry here in the linebacker room.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Not good if there is Josh Richardson getting traded by
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: the Celtics, a lot of trades going on. Again, you
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: can't be the Hall of Fame guy for the NBA. Well,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: that's that's for sure. Yeah, there's one thing about the
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Judeon thing that I you know, I do think there is.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: I think there's a tendency among players coaches when things
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: don't go well, like, let's make sure that if we
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: we're gonna offer up all kinds of reasons, but one
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: of them can't be we ain't good enough or we
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: can't coach them well enough. Those can't be options. So
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: you know, we had some players maybe playing a little bit,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: trying to make plays on their own, getting a little
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: out of the system. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think you
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: were good enough, flat out say it. I don't think
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: they were good enough on defense. So I think there
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: were situations where guys were you know, maybe we're trying
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: to do too much. Yeah. Absolutely. Was it more in
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: the last six weeks than was in the first six weeks,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean I doubt it. But to me,
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: the bottom liners, they got to get better run defense.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: They never they will never admit that. But you know what,
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: I'm somebody like I think it's very easy when something
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: goes bad, yeah, to not say, well, you know what,
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: just we're just not good enough, you know, Man for man,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Buffalo has better players than we Yeah, because that to
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: me was the indication the day after Christmas in the
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: playoff game, the other team had better players than you
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: did on the field. Yeah, And that's why they were
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: like in a weird position because they they had some
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: success and they won some games and they got into
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: the playoffs. Whereas a three win team, we stink, but
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: we won three win games, we should be good. Where
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: three win teams don't say yeah, we had a lot
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: of guys trying to do it all. You know, we
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: got to build. We got there in that they're in
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: that nether region where you won some games, you built
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: up some expectations and people thought you were good and
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: then and then it all fell apart at the end,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: and you know, it's just it was terrible market fall.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: River Rights in quick note to say, I just finished
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: the two thousand and one podcast series and I absolutely
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: loved it. You guys did a tremendous job pulling that together,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: and it was a fun ride. As someone who has
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: been a fan for a long time and owns the
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: DVDs and has watched so much about it. There were
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: new and fresh ideas from the guys who lived it.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: Couldn't recommend it enough to others. It was hard to
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: find time for another podcast during the season, so I
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: caught up after the season. Was so glad I did.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: I hope you'll maybe do this again for other topics.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: Some interesting topics might be the streak in a couple
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: of years, or eighteen and one after that, or even
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: the eighty five or ninety six teams. Was really impressed
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: with the job, especially from Mike and the production team.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Thanks for the hard work. Well it was Mike and
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: that that was the production team. Well thank you that So, yeah,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: that's cool. I'm glad. I'm glad. I mean that just
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: that's what I wanted to try to do, just have
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: something new because I know all those DVDs, I've seen
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: all that stuff, you know, to have a little bit
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: of a new perspective. So I appreciate to comment. And yeah,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: I'm glad we should. We should think of some other
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: things for other topics. You know, maybe you know, it
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a podcast, could be video, you
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: know whatever, but we should. Yeah, yeah, that was fun.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Gary is an east hanover New Jersey um pivotal year
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: two coming from Mac Jones in terms of his development,
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: hopefully improvement now that Joe Judge is back as an
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: offensive assistant. I can't believe there is not another higher
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: coming up to coach up Mac, so he thinks there
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: is somebody. Does Judge have any experience in coaching quarterbacks
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: or scripting a game plan and calling plays? Have any
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: of you heard about a possible return of Jerry Schloplinsky
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: to coach the quarterbacks? Has there been any to talk
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: about Zach Robinson from the Rams? No, Please give me
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: some hope. I don't see Judge maximizing Max's potential. I
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: don't know Jerry Shoplinsky have any experiences. I don't know.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. I mean, it's it's
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: gonna be all Bill again. I just it's hard. It's
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: hard to get on board if everything's just the same.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: And I think there'll be more additions that will round
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: things out a little bit more. But it might be
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: like this. But look, I think you have to. People
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: have to realize too, the guys who have experienced were
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: once inexperienced and somebody had to take a chance and
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: give them the experience. So who knows if Nick Kayley
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: or Mick Lombardi or even Joe Judge are the next
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: great you know, offensive minds in this league. Somebody needs
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: to give them a chance to do it. You know
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: you can. I mean, experience just doesn't happen. You have
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: to have somebody give you the opportunity. Um Claire writes
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: in Hello everyone, Hello girl. I really like Deuce's thoughts
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: on the coaching building from within and side note Fred,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: if Kayley gets the OC job anyway, I can get
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: a PU sponsored flight over to step in as the
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: tight end coach. Please you stop it. Somebody likes Nick Kayley.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: She likes tight ends. Oh she does, that's her thing.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: Oh she doesn't like Nick Kyley, that's her thing. She
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: would just like Nile has a tight end. Basically read
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: the next ing uh spees and fresno U. The rest
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: of Bill's career is hingent upon Mac's success. I'm excited
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: for McClellan's year two, but we'll have to see if
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: he builds the skills that pay the bills. Does he
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: have someone like a Tom House figure in his life?
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I think he didn't. He have a quarterback coach that
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: Alabama hired or No, He's had a couple different He's
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: really had a tough goal of it. He had to
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: wait till he was a junior in high school. Mike
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Brady who got it when he was a sou I'd
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: like Mike to do some undercover work on that, because,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: aside from the perfunctory juicing the league obviously allows, mister
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: Jones needs some elite level training if he's going to
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: be the guy. I believe. Burrow, when interviewed before a
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: playoff game this year, mentioned that uh train changes to
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: throwing motion, particularly in the hips, can help with velocity.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Let's get maxim of that interaction. What now? Am I
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: am um making something up that Tom House actually reached
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: out and offered. I thought I remember something like that.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: I think he offered an interview. Yes, I believe maybe
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: on something that said, oh we can we can get
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: him in shape. I don't but I don't know if
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: they were directly. Well, no, I think you know Tom
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: House is like a throwing guy. That's not going to
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: get him in shape. No, I think he was asked
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: about his throwing. Yeah, those are two different things. I personally,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I didn't really see a lot of fundamental flaws with
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Mac Jones. Yeah, I mean I don't. I think he
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: throws the ball. Yeah, like I you know, my mind,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: and I'm not an expert by all means, but he
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: throws the ball normal, Like I don't like Cam Newton.
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: We used to talk about the feet being parallel to
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: you know, like you can see like that. That ain't right,
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: That's not how the other guys do it. Right. Mac
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Jones doesn't like the other guys do it. Maybe he
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: can do the Dak Prescott thing where I mean everybody,
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: everybody can improve. But I think his biggest area, you
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: know that he needs to work on it is himself.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: His body. Yeah, he needs to get stronger and get
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: in better shape. He did look good in the pro
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: bowling uniforms. I have to say, I saw some of
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: these things and I'm not very sure sculptured, you know,
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: athletic athletic V cut you know that definitely wasn't on display. Bigger,
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: shoulder pads were bigger, I know, But look good. He's
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: got a big flatjacket. You know. The camera adds ten
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: pounds uh Neil from New Brunswick. They're heavy cameras. I
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: think Bill's age and the pursuit of the Winds record
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: is a big problem. It forced him to reload instead
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: of rebuild. Now we're stuck in the middle. We way
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: overpaid for a backup tight end in number three wide receiver.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: And if we really want to get tough on Bill,
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: how about the fact we took Harry over Deebo Samuel
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: in the twenty nineteen draft. There's the number one receiver
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: that at least one person per show calls in to say,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: that is the thing we're missing. I tell you, though,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: Deebo say, I mean, well, he's a beast. He really is.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: I mean just a football player. He is just a
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: football player. Like he runs hard, yeah, you know for
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: a wide receiver to run like the way I saw
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: him running that game against the Green Bay like between
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: the tackles. Yeah, I know, he's a player. Yep. That's
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: what's frustrating, because like my limited draft researcher was like,
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: this is their kind of guy. This is it, like
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: you watching, this is what they do. And then you
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: watch Nikill Harry, You're like, that's not really their kind
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: of guy. Like all respect to him in another system whatever,
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: but that's what was frustrating. Those guys like the same
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: thing with a J. Brown, Like that's their guy, you know,
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: a big, physical kind of guy that can do a
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: bunch of different things. And just and now I feel
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: like they kill Harry as we start to do the
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: draft stuff has scared me away from all these you know,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: big receivers and you know, talking with Paula by a
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: little bit, and you know, you start to watch the highlights,
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: he's like, man, every single catches what the Harry thing is?
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: He down the field, he jumps up, he catches it
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: and he falls down, you know, and instead of like
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: guys like you know, the Alabama guys Williams and uh
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: and what's his face? Uh might see my brain is
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: a Washington and people right now, I keep want to
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: say Henry Ruggs, it's not Ruggs, it's it's it's John Mechi. Sorry,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: but you know, those are the guys that are are
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: quick and move them around and quick and who as
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: you say, he wasn't panishing. I could have probably, yeah,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: but that's just what's frustrating when you see, you know
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: what they like and then they tack. And all right,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: it's that time of the show. We have to turn
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: our attention to the big game, the Cincinnati Bengals in
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Rams. But Paul, what happened last week?
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Before we do that, Fred, I will tell you that
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: we all went one and one okay the conference championship
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: weekend um and on the spread, Eric went one and
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: one okay. The rest of us were owing two. So playoffs.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: Fred and Paul eight and four. Nothing wrong with eight
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: and four, Mike and Eric six and six. A lot
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: wrong with that, very very mediocre with the spread, as
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Fred likes to say, where the men are separating from
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: the boys. Paul is eight and four. Oh, Fred is
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: seven and five. Eric is five and seven, Mike is
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: four and eight. Keeping my sight going, I make no
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: take no responsibility for any errors in the calculations. Mary
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: Blendie will take it. So we've we've got one more
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: game left. Paul's the what's the spread with this game?
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: The ROMs by four ms bour Now that hasn't moved.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: It started. I believe it opened at three and a half.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and it went up to four. I think
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: it's up to four. Okay, what do the Sharps know?
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: What do the sharps? When did they do it? I
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: think the Sharps know something. Yeah, yeah, I agree. I'm
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: gonna go with the Rams. Pool informations coming in. I
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: think I think the Rams got too many veterans. Um.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: I think that they're uh, you know, they're talented players.
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I like Aaron Donald up front, you know, going up
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: and trying to get Joe Burrow out of the pocket.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: I just think the Rams are gonna have a little
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: bit too much. I hope it's a close game, but
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: I can see the Rams by maybe about ten points.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: I got them. Okay. I think we should add a
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: couple of things in here because it's just one game. Okay,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: um MVP also, who yeah, I'll take a I'm gonna
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: take Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup is the MVP. I think
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: we'll have a bunch of catches, kind of like Edelman
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: did attack in that that Cincinnati thing. Yes, okay, I
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: mean everything do said about the Rams. I think if
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: you're looking at it strictly on paper is right. I
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: think the Rams have, you know, guys with more experience
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: certainly the head coach has been in the Super Bowl before,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: so he has that, you know, to lean on. They
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: added a bunch of talented players. Um, but I'm not
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: gonna pick with my head this time. I'm gonna pick
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: with my gut. And my gut is telling me that
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: we're going to see a repeat of twenty years ago
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: when an upstart team defeated the Rams in the Super Bowl. Uh.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: And I'm gonna take the Bengals to win this game
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: thirty to twenty six. Okay, and my MVP is gonna
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: be Joe cool Burrow. All right, Okay. You know somebody
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: was saying, um, well, it's always a quarterback who's the MVP.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: That's not true. It's it's a lot of times, a
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: lot of times. Yeah, but you know they're have a
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: handful of you know. Yeah, Edelman was one, Branch was one. Yeah, um,
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: von Miller won it. But in general, it's Larry Brown.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: Larry Brown, did you have a final score? I apologize
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: I did not. I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say the
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: Rams twenty seven seventeen. Okay. Uh, I am with Deuce here.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: I like the Rams. I think there's a pretty significant
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: gap in talent, I think the Rams talent is better.
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: I do worry a lot about their secondary with all
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: those injuries, and I do think that the Bengals where
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: their talent lies is with those receivers and borrows a
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: bill to get the ball to him. But much like
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: last year, I think the offensive line becomes a problem
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: in a big spot. And I think the Bengals offensive line,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: like the Chiefs, is one of the worst in football
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: UM and I think ultimately, like Kansas City, I think
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: they're gonna be done in by it in in the
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: biggest spot. I think the Rams win this game as
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: long as they can sort of get out of their
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: own way and not hurt the cause. Like no stupid
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: challenges Jean McVeigh, no stupid picks by my boy. Yeah,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, I think they win this game. I'm gonna
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: say thirty to seventeen. Yeah, Paul, I think we're in lockstep.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: And Matthew Stafford is my MP. I'm gonna give you
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: my MVP first and it'll tell you how I think
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: this game's gonna go. It's gonna be a Donald and
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: much for what just Paul, just you know outline. I
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: think he's gonna have a day. And I think I think,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: you know, the nine sacks that Burrow took two he
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: may not have nine, but he's gonna be sacked and
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: he's gonna it's gonna be Aaron Donald doing a lot
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: of damage. And unfortunately, folks, I don't think this is
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: gonna be much of a game. Yeah, I think I think, uh,
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: it's gonna be a dominant you know, you're gonna see
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: the Cincinnati offense not be able to do much and uh,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: I think it's a thirty five fourteen win for the
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: for the ROMs. Wow. I hope you're wrong on that
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: aspect of I want to be a good game. But
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: I think if if, if the Rams front has their way,
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: it's not gonna be a game. It's not gonna be
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: a game. They're gonna take away Chase and they're gonna
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: get at Burrow and it's it's ball game, bubble game.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: What about Higgins and he's not gonna have time? Oh okay,
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: what you said they take away Chase. Yeah, they're gonna
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: take him away. They have some other talent though, they do,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: but you know it's gonna be I mean, if they's
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: gonna have time to go to the number two option.
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: You know, it's just boom boom boom. Maybe yeah, well,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: I mean by Eric's hooker. I think if Joe, if
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: they win, Joe Burrow in this game. I mean, this
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: is a it's a tough matchup on paper for them,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: but I mean, all credit to him if he's able
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: to pull this out. I just have It's just one
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: of those feelings, you know. I mean, like they were
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: a good story throughout the playoffs. It would be good
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: for the NFL too, like to have like a you know,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: a new team, a different team, twenty first team. As
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: we were talking about, Well, I guess you could also
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: say it's good to have a team in LA win
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: it too, because they're so dead set on making LA work.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, but I mean LA is gonna work
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: just because you've got that fantastic stadium and you've got
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I know, but even that last game have to I know,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: they were It's true, it's true. Do you want to
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: share any or ancillary reasons for picking the Bengals? Oh yeah,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: we uh. I have a wildlife calendar up in my
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: office area upstairs, and last month was that the picture
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: was of a tiger yeah, and so we were joking around.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: At the end of the month, I was like, wow,
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: this was the month of the uh the Tiger for
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: the Bengals because they won all those playoff games. I'm like,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: but you know, I got to change the calendar. I
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: flipped the calendar over and it says February for Chinese
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: New Year, Year of the Tiger. So I'm saying, all
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: these things are coming together if the Bengals are gonna win. Wait,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: was it a tiger calendar? And then I realized it's
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: actually a tiger calendars, Eric's wildlife calendar from what I
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: was like. And if there's a ram on thee I
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: get it from donations year years of making donations. But
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: I have my own. If there was one animal that
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: you say, we have to save this animal or like
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: keep it protected, what would it be? Which which one?
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: Just one? Yeah? Just one, like of all the animals
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: right now, it's like Eric Sophie Choyce. Yeah, I know,
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: it's terrible. I would go right now with elephants. I'm
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: with you, Nice, I'm with you. I'm with the elephant, Pio.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: Why why are we screwing with them? Just why we're
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: screwing with them, But why do you have such an
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: affinity for him. I think they're I think they're pretty smart.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: And the way they take care their kids and all that,
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: and you know, like the way they treat them. They
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: hunt them down and cut off their tusks and their
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: hoofs and it's terrible. It is and it's and it's
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: for no good reason either, Like we're gonna need to
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: get into that kind of Sarah McLaughlin at here, Nah,
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: I'm with you. Wales is another good one too, Yeah,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: they've been persecuted for too long too. Yeah, so big guys,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: you know, a gentle giants. Yeah, leave them alone. I
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: see no reason why we need to have species on
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: the verge of extinction. I agree with you on that. Yeah.
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: All right, Well that's it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: I hope everyone enjoys Super Bowl weekend, whoever you're um
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: picking or even if you're just watching. Yeah, I have
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: a good time. I hope we're wrong, and I hope
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Eric's right. I hope it's a close game. Yeah, I
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: do too. I just I don't want to play. I
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: just think, I think, and hopefully the trend continues, because
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: like the Divisional weekend. The games were great AFC, you know,
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: and Chip Weekend. The games all came down to the
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: end too. That it continues. Yeah, that's how I feel, right,
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: do it blow out? Yeah? All right, Um, we'll see
