- 0:41this week's episode, Friss Records tell me so, but I've been liking it
- 0:47though, like I've been liking it, and so it just we just ended
- 0:51up going into good conversation like we've been the fact. Where did you get
- 0:56these lasts from'nn? Go ahead, XU. So I got these literally a
- 1:00couple of days ago in Detroit. I got my makeup done by girl named
- 1:03Heidi, and she has the coolest place, Like you don't just go get
- 1:07your makeup done. It's a boutique, so there's like clothing in there.
- 1:10She has a full line of makeup. But you know, some people come
- 1:12up with makeup lines and they got like libloss and like maybe eyeliner, baby
- 1:15has serum and face wash and like literally anything you can buy from sfore she
- 1:21has, so I thought it was really cool. And then she had these
- 1:23glasses too, and I felt like they're perfectly extra for me, so I
- 1:26put them on today. Yep, you do extra, will You Know what's
- 1:29so funny is I always cared so much about what people thought about me.
- 1:34I was very much like not stepping outside the box, even though I like
- 1:37my essence is outside of the box, but I would keep myself in because
- 1:41I care what people thought. And then one day I just I just stopped
- 1:45caring. Like I really think my husband had a lot to do with it,
- 1:49because he gives no f about what anybody think. By God, today,
- 1:55before we get to to because listen, listen. Hello there, Yea,
- 2:00we're good, Daisy, We're good. Oh my goodness, we are
- 2:04in the building. Welcome to Just Ask, the podcast where we create a
- 2:07safe space for influencers to decompress, have fun and guess what Just Ask.
- 2:13It's your girl, Justice Smith, and I'm super excited today. Baby,
- 2:16I'm a little nervous, Like I'm probably just as nervous as I was when
- 2:20I interviewed Tails Auntie Tail. I'm just as nervous, y'all, that's a
- 2:27ray. First of all, we gotta acknowledge the Woman of God. Are
- 2:29right, hey, y'all? Are hey? Does alright? And I was
- 2:32alright and I was all right, say hey to the people, Hello,
- 2:37can't see you again? Yeah again another week? Can't see you? But
- 2:39she she backing there in the building. She tried not to have a mic
- 2:43today, but you know we went ahead and cut that in the bullet.
- 2:46Y'all know, y'all, like he In does a ray voice, but y'all
- 2:51another voice that we have on the platform today, just as the podcast Woman
- 2:58of guid first of all, first and foremost the goat in this model industry.
- 3:04I'm gonna just say, hands down, Birmingham's finest wife, mother of
- 3:09four beautiful children. I mean, she got the game all lot right now,
- 3:15Like this is none other than the Kayla and men, Yes, y'all
- 3:24might know her as Kayla the model Maker. Everybody, that's what everybody college.
- 3:29She's gonna change your name to thee Maker. Welcome to the platform,
- 3:34Sys, I'm super excited to have you, happy to be here. I'm
- 3:38proud of you. Thank you. Don't do that because we have tissues.
- 3:44We do. So I am a baby. I am too. So you
- 3:46know, yesterday I was thinking I owe my church like probably a palette of
- 3:51tissue boxes. I'm gonna do it, like I'm gonna just roll up because
- 3:54I I the bunchet is broken because of me, Like I it's me,
- 3:59Like I just know what You're a souler, So I think you're paying for
- 4:02there. I probably contributed to the tissue I did. Oh my gosh,
- 4:09Like I am super excited to have you, Like I am shaking right now
- 4:13because like you are so amazing and before we get into it, like I
- 4:18personally want to say thank you because no, like you don't even know.
- 4:28I've been following you a minimum of I know, a minimum four years wow,
- 4:33and I met you before you it was like the transition to the blow
- 4:38up, like people were starting to figure out who you were in the city,
- 4:41the city being Birmingham, Alabama, and like I was like this this
- 4:46lady here, she got faith on crack like it is my faith is not
- 4:53drugs for sure, And I was like so amazed at your story and just
- 5:00at how you was just as people would say, grinding, but my new
- 5:05work or is faith in it out? And it's just like you couldn't be
- 5:09told no, Like when I met you on social media, like as far
- 5:14as me watching you because you didn't who I was. But when I met
- 5:18you, when I saw you, all I could see was your faith.
- 5:20Wow, Like literally all I could see was your faith. And you really
- 5:25inspired me to even test the waters on something that I never thought I would
- 5:30be doing. Like just watching your story, watching how you just really defeated
- 5:35all eyes you like had children. Yeah, so it gave me, no,
- 5:39it gave me a position of you don't have any excuses. You have
- 5:43no excuse. The girl like literally grinding away from zero dollars to you're a
- 5:47whole millionaire, a whole millionaire in the streets. How you feeling, kaylab
- 5:51Like, how you doing baby? I am doing pretty well. I'm super
- 5:56busy, and I've been telling God like I know that this is what I
- 6:00asked for. I'm not complaining. But it's been like I've been traveling.
- 6:04I've been on so many planes I can't even count. I got off I
- 6:08had a layover in Orlando. But when I got off the plane, I
- 6:12legitimately, I'm not even kidding, couldn't tell you where I was or why.
- 6:16For about ten minutes, I'm like, I don't know what airport this
- 6:18is. The all start to look alike. I think this is a la.
- 6:21I'm like, where am I and why I had to figure it out.
- 6:25I've been I've been flying that much and I've been that busy. But
- 6:27I'm super grateful and I can never complain because this is what I asked for.
- 6:31This is what you asked for. You're living in it, and it
- 6:34seems like from outside looking in that you're living well, Like we we're gonna
- 6:42we're gonna get into this, so I'm trying to ease it before we start
- 6:44to tears. I really feel like I'm gonna end up quarantine because like inspiration
- 6:47should be your middle name, Kayla Inspiration, the model maker, or maybe
- 6:51the last name Kayla the model maker, Inspiration. I don't know. We're
- 6:55gonna figure it. We're gonna figure out that a Ka d inspiration. So
- 7:00you said that you you just got all the planes. You've been doing a
- 7:01lot of planes. Action like how do you travel? Like are you traveling
- 7:04by yourself? Do you have a whole team? Like are you doing because
- 7:09what if people don't know that you don't consider your business like an agency yet,
- 7:13do you know? So I basically connect parents and their kids to the
- 7:18agencies. So when they are interested in their kids getting started and acting and
- 7:23modeling, they come to me because a lot of times they don't know how
- 7:26to start. There's a lot of scams out there, there's a lot of
- 7:28misinformation. So I'm basically like the bridge. Yeah, I love that you
- 7:32plug. I call myself the plug. I feel like everyone doesn't know what
- 7:36that means. I used to have it on my Instagram page, but I
- 7:39feel like that's more of an urban thing. I'm trying to reach everybody.
- 7:41It's it's like what she means, she's a plug. Yes, I am
- 7:44absolutely the plug. You said it properly, like, yeah, anybody else
- 7:46will watch this, but most of my people probably a urban Yeah, the
- 7:50plug for my for my wonderful friends, they the plug is the bridge.
- 7:56Like she just said, so, the connected, the person that figures out
- 8:01Okay, I know this person, this person be great for this. And
- 8:03what people don't realize is the plug makes a lot of money. She came
- 8:09right out and said it. I mean, I feel like people pay for
- 8:15the fast track because you know you have you're always going to have those people
- 8:18on the internet talking about well I could google that, well, baby,
- 8:20google it, because I was googling and getting scam left and right. So
- 8:24I take all the real information and package it together, and you know,
- 8:28they can either do like my course, or we'll have a package where I
- 8:31can do it for them. But yeah, people are willing to pay for
- 8:33that information to fast track their success, and I have to go through some
- 8:37of the stuff that I went through. Also doesn't make it easier because you
- 8:41you not only do you have your consumer base, but you have you're trusted
- 8:45with different brands, right, so you kind of like, yeah, so
- 8:48I have people, you know that come to me to learn how and then
- 8:52there's a lot of word of mouth, and then I do have some brands
- 8:56that come to me also looking for talent. I'm not necessarily an agency,
- 9:00but I do some casting. So like right now, actually I'm doing a
- 9:05casting for Milano, the brand, because they're looking for kids. You know.
- 9:09Other people come to me and say, like, I know that you
- 9:11are in the business and you have talents, so who do you have for
- 9:13this project. It's not the main thing that I do, but it's something
- 9:16that I've gone into so I was I was rewinding your story a little bit,
- 9:22and I was like, man, how do you even think of starting
- 9:28a business to be in a connector like these? Can you Can you show
- 9:33it with the people that don't know? Yeah, for sure. I'm trying
- 9:35to figure out how far back I go. But I always wanted to act
- 9:39a model, like it was my dream. I feel like I was probably
- 9:41posing for my ultrasound picture, like if you go back the feet, I
- 9:48probably was posing as an egg because I would be in the mirror, like
- 9:52acting out whole scenes and nobody really knew. I'd literally be acting out whole
- 9:56scenes in the mirror. I would have like these whole scenarios. I like,
- 10:00if you look at any pictures of me and my siblings as kids,
- 10:03I was doing the absolute most. Like everyone else was standing there smiling,
- 10:05and I'd be like this, Yeah, we're gonna have to like, can
- 10:11you splice it in. I'm gonna send you a picture I'm doing this and
- 10:15no one else says, so you know. I would sometimes talk about the
- 10:18fact that I want to act a model, but I just didn't really have
- 10:20a whole lot of support in my house, Like my mom would be like
- 10:24well, I really just don't know how to do that, you know.
- 10:28So when I got out on my own and I got married, I started
- 10:31trying to figure it out myself. I was like, I'm gonna I can
- 10:33open a magazine and see that there's people in a magazine. I can look
- 10:37at a billboard and see that there's people on billboards. I can turn on
- 10:39my TV and there's people there, and they got there somehow. That's just
- 10:41always the way that I thought. So if they got there somehow, then
- 10:45I can get there somehow. So I would do all those hotel auditions where
- 10:48you hear people saying, like, you know, is your kid want to
- 10:50be an actor model, Come on down to the Sheridan And I get to
- 10:54Sheridan and they want a million dollars. So I got you know, I
- 10:56got got a lot, and I figured out by trial and error what the
- 11:01real way was to get started. And then in twenty eighteen, my oldest
- 11:05daughter was in the movie Black Panther. And you know, it's funny because
- 11:09she was an extra. She wasn't in a speaking role. She was featured
- 11:13where she was like in the scene with Black Panther. She was the one
- 11:16shoveling dir over him. So it was really cool. But like in Atlanta,
- 11:20two hours away, nobody would have Carrid. Matter of fact, I
- 11:22was trying to keep this information from them because in Birmingham, like the city
- 11:28went crazy. Like she met the mayor, he gave her this letter,
- 11:31presented her with the letter. Like we were on every single news station,
- 11:35WBrC, WVTM, they were interviewed, they were calling her school for interviews.
- 11:39She was in the newspaper. And I'm like, y'all, like,
- 11:43this is not that deep, but it was that deep because Birmingham didn't know
- 11:46how to do it. Yeah, And I said to myself, wow,
- 11:50like we're getting all this attention, and I am dead broke. We were
- 11:54living in a house that was smaller than this room that we're sitting in.
- 12:00We had four kids at the time. You know, they were eating oatmeal
- 12:05for almost breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And nobody knew this because we
- 12:07had all this attention on us, and they're thinking, black pants, Oh
- 12:09you got paid a million dollars. No, ma'am, it was like three
- 12:11hundred. We barely had guess to get to the new station. So I
- 12:16wanted to interview us, and I'm like, Okay, I have all this
- 12:18attention, what can I do to maximize it? Why is this so deep
- 12:22to them? It's because they had the lack of knowledge. So I said,
- 12:24I can start teaching them. And honestly, it was an idea that
- 12:26had years previous, because I had done a couple of things in the industry
- 12:30and people had asked me what to do. But I was scared because I
- 12:35felt like people would say, well, why is she teaching that she doesn't
- 12:39know enough. I've done such and such, because I had actors and models
- 12:41on my page that had been in big magazines and had done this and that,
- 12:45and I hadn't really done as much as they had done. But I
- 12:46knew I had something to give. I knew that these people were tripping that
- 12:50she was in black Panther because they didn't know how to do it, and
- 12:52I did, so I let fear hold me back for years. I probably
- 12:56had that idea in twenty fourteen. As a matter of fact, I had
- 13:00a memory pop up where I had been like testing the waters and I was
- 13:03like, would y'all want to know how to get started? Right? But
- 13:07I never did it. I had that idea back in twenty fourteen and that
- 13:09came up as a memory. I never did it. So in twenty eighteen,
- 13:13when all this buzz was going on, I had seen this video.
- 13:16I don't know if y'all ever seen it, but everybody has to watch it
- 13:18in life. It's by Steve Harvey and he's talking to his audience after a
- 13:22filming and he's talking about jumping. If you type in Steve Harvey, jump,
- 13:26have you seen that before? Changed my life? I was like,
- 13:28I got goosebumps. I'm like, like, what am I waiting for?
- 13:31Is what's wrong with someone talking about me? Like, even if they do,
- 13:37like, is it gonna change something in my life? Is it gonna
- 13:39turn my lights off or on? Like, it's not gonna do anything.
- 13:43So I'm like, they can talk if they want to, but I'm gonna
- 13:46I'm just gonna jump. I'm gonna I'm gonna post this and just see if
- 13:50anybody signs up. I was sitting on my living room floor in the tiny
- 13:52house. My husband was working nights, so he was in the back sleeping
- 13:56because he was getting ready to go to work, and I stayed up that
- 14:00night sitting on the floor, had my phone in my hand. I was
- 14:01like, I'm just gonna do it. I'm just gonna jump. So I
- 14:03went on Instagram. You know how you can write on your stories and like
- 14:07save it to your camera. It's very ghetto ad. It is a picture
- 14:09of my daughter in black panther, and it's like, I can teach you
- 14:11how to act a model for thirty five dollars. I saved it posted on
- 14:15Facebook. It's like eight o'clock that night. To my surprise, two people
- 14:20signed up almost within an hour. And for me, like people don't understand,
- 14:24like it was thirty five dollars, yes, but that seventy dollars changed
- 14:30my life. I wouldn't be sitting here if it wasn't for that seventy dollars
- 14:33because it told me that something I had just been thinking about, if I
- 14:39executed it, it could become something like that was revolutionary for me, Like
- 14:46it literally changed everything for me. Just that night. I was like,
- 14:48wait a minute, so I thought about it, but if I do it,
- 14:50it can be And it came from my brain. Do you understand what
- 14:54I'm saying? That's right? No woman, God came no, no,
- 15:01no, no, no run that by run it, she said, because
- 15:07she thought about, thought about it, she could do it. That was
- 15:11the seventy dollars miracle. Whoa yea girl. It still gives me chills to
- 15:16to stay because when I tell you I'm you know we'll get into that.
- 15:22Money does not change everything, and you know there's still life issues. But
- 15:24I'm living a life that I built because I had the faith to step out.
- 15:30If I hadn't done it that night, if I had not made that
- 15:33post that night, I wouldn't be sitting here. I wouldn't have driven up
- 15:35in one hundred thousand dollars car. I wouldn't have another one hundred thousand dollars
- 15:39car sent in my driveway. My kids wouldn't be going to the school system
- 15:41they're going to. We wouldn't be living in the house that we're living in.
- 15:43Like, all of that started because I had the courage that one night,
- 15:48that one minute to say I'm gonna go ahead and post this. And
- 15:50it wasn't that it blew up quickly. It wasn't that it had to become
- 15:54what it was going to become that night. It was that God was allowing
- 15:58me to see that this can be, something is possible, that this can
- 16:02work, that this is possible that the door was opened. Literally like I
- 16:06had the thought and I acted on it and then boom. So from there
- 16:11I did my first two meetings. I remember my husband got up for work
- 16:15and I was like, I because I was always doing something like it was,
- 16:18I was, I've never been one to just like, I'm gonna find
- 16:21a way to make on. So I told him, I said, I
- 16:23started this thing and we made seventy dollars. And he was like, you
- 16:26made seventy dollars because you got to remember he was working night shift at the
- 16:30airport. He was making ten dollars an hour, so for him to get
- 16:33up go to work at night, out of the house, barely had gas
- 16:37driving and broke down car. It's cold nighttime. He was gonna make about
- 16:40seventy bucks after taxis wow, first seven out for eight hour shift, she's
- 16:44gonna make about seventy bucks. No hold on, you're putting too much,
- 16:45respectable, Like, I hope y'all hear her and seeing her right now because
- 16:52I'm trying to we could I need them to catch some of these juice that
- 16:56you give it. Like she said, I told my hoosband that I made
- 17:00seventy dollars and probably with your class, probably like an hour not out to
- 17:06I hadn't even done the little meeting yet, but yeah, I made seventy
- 17:08dollars that night just by selling. Yet no, because I was meeting them
- 17:11in person back then for thirty five dollars, they get an in person meeting.
- 17:15And he asked me, He's like, well, how are you going
- 17:18to do that? And I was like, I don't know. I guess
- 17:19I'll just meet him at the library. And he just looked at me and
- 17:22he was like, okay, because for us that was money, Like that
- 17:26was a lot of money for us. We were going straight to the grocery
- 17:29store with seventy bucks. So he's like okay, and he went to work
- 17:33that night, and you know, the next day, I met the two
- 17:34people at the library, at the Homewood Library, and I had, you
- 17:37know, written down everything I knew, and I fumbled through it, like,
- 17:41hey, follow this page, do this, do that. And within
- 17:42a week, maybe one of my first clients, her name is Hannah her
- 17:47Son, booked for Oshkosh blah Gosh off of the information that I gave her.
- 17:51When I tell y'all, I was running through the house screaming and he's
- 17:53like, what the heck is y'all with you? I'm like, it worked,
- 17:56It worked. It's not that I didn't believe the information was good.
- 17:59It was just that like, oh God, like I made the money,
- 18:02I taught someone and it produced results for them. Like from then it was
- 18:04over with because God, like literally you you faith it out so much that
- 18:11God was able to prove your identity to you. Like that's literally what I'm
- 18:15here like and the reason why I can feel you on it because it literally
- 18:19just happened to be like with the whole table, the brown situation, Like
- 18:22I was like I didn't even have a word for what I was doing right,
- 18:29and so you don't know, you don't really understand it until you're not
- 18:32in that space where you got to take a legal faith yep. Like so
- 18:36so even now, like it's still expanding and expanding and expanding, and it's
- 18:40like it you mean to tell me it all started for me being brave for
- 18:45five minutes to make a post girl like this is this is where we get
- 18:52like I'm working with me Amyah Davis because I was this this brave Tasha Cobbs
- 18:56as a client, because I made a post like what, like you texted
- 19:00these folks for real? Literally every time she texted me at Woman of All.
- 19:04As a matter of fact, she literally text me from backstage, sending
- 19:07me pictures of her son. And she had sang the night before, so
- 19:11I was like, oh my gosh, I saw you last night, like
- 19:14are you still here? And she's like, yeah, I'm backstage about to
- 19:15come out and sing. What and you're thinking of me and texting me?
- 19:18Like my mind is blown? Like like faith will put you in rooms that
- 19:26people can't like, literally, your faith will outdo, out do anything that
- 19:32you can think or see. Like that's why that's I don't And I love
- 19:34your story because literally don't want to stress this point because if you follow her,
- 19:40then you know that she's unashamed about telling her story. Like let's let
- 19:45me, let me rewind it because people in your situation, right, it
- 19:49took a lot of faith because you couldn't see beyond what you had, right,
- 19:53you said, this room is bigger than your whole your whole living situation
- 20:00before you blew blew all the way up, having money, had the tooth
- 20:03over six figure calls like yeah, baby, the fact is I'm in the
- 20:07room, I receive it, listen, And so how quickly did you have
- 20:18to adjust everything, make everything else, adjust to your mindset? Like you
- 20:22got a husband that was just like okay, Like what did you have to
- 20:26see like teach him the level of fact that you had or did you know
- 20:30we have always been crazy together. I will say that, like, first
- 20:33of all, that was a great time to mention my apostle, my pastor
- 20:37my spiritual father, Stephen Allen Davis, because none of this would be possible
- 20:41without him either, and the being under his leadership just taught us a type
- 20:47of crazy faith that most people don't have, Like people my dad, I
- 20:52call him Dad. He has a quote it says they can call you crazy,
- 20:55but they have to call you blessed. And when we were in our
- 20:57baroqus of broke days I'm talking about like ponytail fell off during the church service,
- 21:03no edge control, dollar flip flops of old navy, like I used
- 21:06to be in service looking tore back and they used to be talking about us
- 21:10like there I could tell like people were listen, it fell off, and
- 21:14I went in the bathroom and put up onunder stink because maybe that's not important
- 21:15right now, Like I'm gonna praise my God. But people thought we were
- 21:19crazy because we would be in the front of the church like jumping, and
- 21:23like we were. We were experiencing such an inward transformation that we didn't care
- 21:30what we looked back on the outside because we knew what was happening on the
- 21:33inside. And I give this illustration because this is the only thing I can
- 21:37liken it too. When Jesus was on the cross, first of all,
- 21:41it couldn't have been me. I'm listen, babe, if I was Jesus,
- 21:45none that I would be here because I'm about to come off this cross
- 21:48and show y'all that I am Jesus. Right, that's what we would do.
- 21:52But like we were being crucified. But we couldn't. We couldn't force
- 21:56our way to the to the end of the story where we're like see,
- 21:59like we were not crazy. We couldn't do that. So when we're talking
- 22:02about tithing out of his because back then only he was working, we were
- 22:06used to tithe out of his gross, not his net. He was being
- 22:10garnished. Sometimes we would literally end up with like forty seven dollars after his
- 22:14garnishment, after we tied, like we just believed that it was that important
- 22:17and we were gonna do it until it worked, like it was gonna work,
- 22:19it was gonna work. So like tithing, they thought we were crazy.
- 22:22When we would get car street possessed, we'd pull up to church in
- 22:25a cab, like we would spend thirty dollars to get to church because it
- 22:29was that important. It was what was feeding us. And I'll never forget.
- 22:32I won't say I've said in other interviews, but like a family member,
- 22:36it was like, how did y'all get to church? You don't have
- 22:37a car, And I was like, we took a cab and she was
- 22:40like, you took a cab to church? Like it was just the most
- 22:42ridiculous idea ever. So they thought we were crazy, but we just had
- 22:47that kind of faith to believe, like we'd be working mediocre jobs and telling
- 22:51the people that we were gonna be millionaires. And sometimes when I could,
- 22:53I would dress up for work, like I was working at a place that
- 22:56you didn't have to dress up. I'd have like fishnuts stockings on a skirt
- 23:00heels and they'd be like, what are you wearing that for? And I'd
- 23:02say, I'm dressing for where I'm going and like, we just had all
- 23:04these things that we would say and do, and people thought we were absolutely
- 23:07nutty. Until now now they're either like we always knew you know, you
- 23:12got them, or they're silent. And the silent ones almost bother me more.
- 23:18Somebody told me I posted that once and that you shouldn't let that bother
- 23:21you. I'm like, I'm human, and where is all the noise now?
- 23:25Because y'all were making fun of us for tithing, telling us we're stupid,
- 23:27telling us you need to get on welfare, and I'm like, oh,
- 23:30I can't because like I have a working husband. Well you can just
- 23:33tell them you don't know where your husband is. I'm like, no,
- 23:34that's not right, I'm not doing that. Well what like they would just
- 23:37make fun of us so bad and talk about us. They're like, you're
- 23:40dead, broke, like your children. Why don't you do this? Why
- 23:41won't you dad? I'm like, because I believe that what I'm doing one
- 23:45day is gonna work. And now you either have the ones that are saying
- 23:48I always knew in my comments and I want to be like you knew what,
- 23:52or the ones that just completely ignore it. I wouldn't got a lime
- 23:56green car. Just you know, it's a little bit trauma in there.
- 23:59You know, I got in courages so people could be like, oh okay,
- 24:00love, they still don't acknowledge it because they can't. They're convicted,
- 24:07very convicted, Yeah, very convicted. As we are talking about people,
- 24:14you know, the naysayers or the no sayers, Yeah, okay, what
- 24:18about the people that have supported you? Have you been able to transition with
- 24:22anybody? Because I know I'm learning that as you elevate, baby, they
- 24:26fall off like yeah, cockroaches like babe. Absolutely, So yeah, there's
- 24:33there's several people like our pastor, Y'll Henry talk about him a million times
- 24:36because he's just like the most amazing person that we've ever met. Like he's
- 24:40supported us from the very beginning. It didn't matter if we came in there
- 24:44looking broke down, busted discussed it. He's always treated us the same.
- 24:48And I'm so grateful now that we're able to tay like, look like we
- 24:51took what you taught us and we prospered with it, like we were thriving
- 24:56from it. So he literally has to tell us all the time to stop
- 24:57buying him gifts because like every time I go out of town like birthdays,
- 25:03Christmas, like they were getting whatever they want. I have this joke where
- 25:06I'm like, one day, I'm gonna buy y'all a real draft, and
- 25:07it's gonna be like a designer draft, like a Louisviutan draft, which is
- 25:11weird of me, but anyway, I absolutely love them. So we've gotten
- 25:15them all kinds of stuff, and you know, obviously they transitioned with us
- 25:17because they never wanted anything from us. They just want to see us prosper.
- 25:19My grandfather is one of those that has always been super supportive. He
- 25:23is my person, like he's my person. We have the same birthday and
- 25:27he's eighty seven years old and I absolutely left him. My mother in law
- 25:33has always been super super supportive. So, I mean, we did have
- 25:37those people that supported us then and now, but yeah, there's people that
- 25:41fell off. And it was the ones that felt convicted. I would guess
- 25:45that they were, you know, saying what wouldn't happen or couldn't happen,
- 25:48or that we were done for doing this and that, And I was like,
- 25:52they're silent, and sometimes they silent because in secret they would talking real
- 25:56loud. They would say crazy stuff to us, so I know they're talk
- 25:59about on our BOCKX. Oh absolutely wow. And you you, I can
- 26:04only imagine like how you had to break through that negativity and how painful that
- 26:11was because it's not just the world looking at you, your children was watching
- 26:15you. So how like, how did you motivate them while y'all were in
- 26:22the process of transition And what impact are you seeing in their lives like now,
- 26:27like as their development, because that's a whole different that's an interesting question.
- 26:32So my kids always say that they did not know we were broke.
- 26:36They will tell you right now that Mommy, we didn't know. So my
- 26:38older two kids, well, my oldest daughter she is super like humble and
- 26:47grateful because she remembers when we couldn't do what we're doing now. But she
- 26:52didn't necessarissarily know that it was because we didn't have money. And then the
- 26:56difference between her and my youngest son and Judah, that baby has more money
- 27:03than me, That baby is rich. Do you know he said to me
- 27:07the other day, I said, he asked for something. I was like,
- 27:10no, Mommy doesn't want to spend money on that right now, And
- 27:11he said, mom you're Caleb the model maker. He's six, you're calea
- 27:15the model maker. I said, oh, this is what has happened.
- 27:19You'll see, just reminded you of who you were. Baby. He we
- 27:23have a nanny. She picks him up, takes him the Starbucks, takes
- 27:26him out to eat, like this is the norm for him, And honestly,
- 27:30it's become a problem. Like right before I came here, literally we
- 27:33were just out at eating because you know, I've been out of sound,
- 27:34so I took them out to eat. He had a complete meltdown because my
- 27:40oldest son asked if he could get a burrito off the adult minion instead of
- 27:42the kid minion because it's bigger and he's twelve and he's eating up the house.
- 27:47So we told him yes, and then Judah asked if he could do
- 27:49the same, and we're like, nobody, you don't need that an adult
- 27:52one. You're a kid. He cut up. And what we realized was
- 27:56he is not being told no, like we're so busy, we just give
- 28:00them what he wants, Like he has a nanny that he can give what
- 28:02everyone's from. The joker is not being told no, and like it's hard
- 28:06because you are grateful for where you are and for what you have and for
- 28:08what you're able to provide to them. But at the same time, you
- 28:12have to make sure that there's a way to keep them grateful and humble.
- 28:15Like my oldest she remembers struggle. She didn't remember it as struggle, but
- 28:19she remembers when we didn't have as much. Yeah, so she's the one
- 28:22that'll be like, oh, mommy, you don't have to give me.
- 28:25Like I took them to Target two. I have two girls and two boys.
- 28:27I took the two girls to Target and I was like, you know
- 28:30what, y'all can have forty dollars to spend them whatever you want. And
- 28:33she was so excited. She was like, Mommy, you don't have to
- 28:36do forty. You can do you can just do twenty. You don't have
- 28:38to do forty. This is my fourteen year old. She's like, just
- 28:41do twenty. You don't have to give us forty dollars each. The youngest
- 28:44daughter, by contrast, I'd already told her she could get a scarf.
- 28:48I already told her she could get a scarf, and she's like, well,
- 28:52does the scarf come out of my forty oh? And I said I
- 28:55did. The one with the bracelets. Right, No, no, no,
- 28:57that's that's my oldest. But but I said, I said, yeah,
- 29:02it's gonna come out of your forty. This little girl starts crying.
- 29:06But Mom, that's not fair because you had already said that I could get
- 29:08the because she she's of the young to the younger two are little rich babies,
- 29:14and then the older two are a little bit more grateful. I'm like,
- 29:15you are crying because I want the scarfs to come out of the forty.
- 29:19And then her sister's like, no, don't give me forty, give
- 29:22me twenty. So it's really interesting to see the differences in them, and
- 29:26you know, it's it's a work in progress to try to keep them in
- 29:29a place where they understand the life that they live is not normal, that
- 29:32they are privileged, and that you know, everyone does not live this way.
- 29:37It's it's hard. It's a hard thing because I had poverty trauma from
- 29:41what we went through. So the second we could, I'm like, what
- 29:45do you mean the little girls school has golden goose? You want some golden
- 29:47goose, baby, let's go get and we can get those two. And
- 29:48then you get into like living in a predominantly white area and all that comes
- 29:52along with that as well, like you want them to have what the kids
- 29:55at school have. And that's why she was looking my daughter, she's looking
- 29:57at the Cardia bracelets because a little girls school had one card Yeah, I'm
- 30:02like, what, like for those that don't know what it is, basically
- 30:07it was a four thousand dollars and the reason why I got sawt on your
- 30:12social media and I was like, what kind of like what is this?
- 30:17Yeah sheet, I don't know nothing about, right, and apparently you have
- 30:26to like take them on and off with the tool or something. I don't
- 30:30know, but that's what the little girls at her school are wearing. And
- 30:33even though she wants some of the stuff, like she's she's not gonna necessarily
- 30:37add like she's super super grateful like for whatever she gets. Now the little
- 30:41girl's expensive, like you know, she wears little limon and runs around the
- 30:44Stanley cup and all that, but she is so grateful that makes me want
- 30:48to give her more. Now, the mother, I love your babies,
- 30:51loves y'all. They just they're growing up privileged. They're they're riding around in
- 30:56one hundred thousand dollars car like that's their norm. Now when I have pictures
- 31:00and them riting righting around in a five hundred dollars van that the tire flew
- 31:03off of the went across the streets, say hi, you know, like
- 31:07just a couple of years ago, in twenty twenty, we had no car.
- 31:11Let's let's let's preference that twenty twenty, the beginning of twenty twenty,
- 31:15we were walking to save a lot with the backpack on how crazy is that?
- 31:19Kids? You had four kids? We didn't walk the kids? Now
- 31:22he okay, let me let me rephrase that my husband walked with a backpack
- 31:26and say hour, thank you, like that I didn't walk. I did
- 31:33you still talk to McDonald's for Wi Fi to you know, to do stuff
- 31:37with the business. But yeah, just you know, it's twenty twenty four,
- 31:40So four years ago we were not living this life. And it happened
- 31:44so quickly. I think I take everybody did one, two, three day
- 31:52because you in the I don't even know how long we've been going so far.
- 31:56You you really drop a lot of gms that I don't even think you
- 32:00realize. And so I want to hit something that we talked about a little
- 32:02bit earlier. You said that you and your husband kept going back to your
- 32:07church and kept tithing and was consistent at that because you understood and saw the
- 32:14inward work. And so when we think about that, especially as believers entrepreneurs,
- 32:22what does that even look like? Because you went from zero too a
- 32:27million like you just went what does that gap of healing looks like for somebody?
- 32:32That's a good question. So the journey was a tough one because,
- 32:37like I said earlier, knowing that you know that, you know that,
- 32:42you know that you are being transformed on the inside, but other people can't
- 32:46see it. You have to go through ridicule, like can you imagine being
- 32:51Jesus and they're spitting on you talking about will come down then? And you
- 32:55know that you can come down if you wanted to. I would admit I
- 33:01got some traumas. So I like to prove people wrong, Like I'm still
- 33:05in that place where I'm like, I will show you you want me to
- 33:07come down, I'm coming down. But he didn't do that, Like that's
- 33:13the only thing I can like in it too, where people are spitting at
- 33:15you and talking about you and they truly believe that you can't do anything about
- 33:19it, Like nothing's changing with you. You ain't got more than I have.
- 33:22We had somebody tell us that, like, God ain't doing no more
- 33:24for you than he's doing for me. A very close family member. You
- 33:28know what, it's my story to tell my mama. She said it.
- 33:30She did. She said, I'm proud of you for that. It's hard.
- 33:36It's hard, and she may see this and I love you, but
- 33:38she said it. We love you, Mama, but this is your true
- 33:40God is not doing anything more for you than he's doing for me. But
- 33:45I knew that he was. I knew that on the inside everything was changing
- 33:50and it was only a matter of time before it showed up on the inside.
- 33:52But do you know what statements like that do when it's like, oh,
- 33:54I just want to show you, but I can't. I could not
- 33:57come off of the cross, could not. I could not come off of
- 34:00the cross. I had to stay there until my process was complete. So
- 34:05that's why I always liking it to Jesus find on the cross, because they're
- 34:07like, come down from there and you spit on me, baby, I'm
- 34:09gonna take these nails out and I'm jumping down. But I couldn't do it.
- 34:15So that was the most difficult part of the process was I gotta stay
- 34:17here. I gotta deal with this even though I know that everything on the
- 34:20inside of me is changing. And one day y'all gotta see. And when
- 34:22the one day came, silence, that's the hardest part. Oh my gosh,
- 34:34I swear you're stirring me right now mainly. And I already had to
- 34:37go get my scriptures because what I what I keep hearing is what faith.
- 34:47What I keep hearing is and seeing is when you take the leap of faith.
- 34:53Right, So you said it started with an idea of thought. You
- 34:58saw something. It's like, man, I could do this that the fear
- 35:00is but I don't know or I haven't been doing this as long as X,
- 35:07Y and Z, right, But the courage is to do it even
- 35:12when the fear is there. So because you took the faith leap to do
- 35:17something that you couldn't see, Like you just talked about how you're living your
- 35:21living situation, but you took the faith. And now because you allowed yourself
- 35:27not to come down off the cross, you went through the process. Now
- 35:30God was able to show you what was on the other side. I guess
- 35:34what has already been there there that part, Caleb, that's the crazy part.
- 35:38Caleb. I'm gonna have to apology for Wednesday because you're talking. I
- 35:43don't want to be certain you. Okay, there's two things. There's two
- 35:46things. Oh my gosh, so I as you were talking, literally I
- 35:52heard holy spirits say the reason why she can be the bridge is because she
- 36:00leaned on the bridge. Literally, every example that you've given me about faith,
- 36:07you leaned on Jesus. And that's what I mean for those that don't
- 36:10really know God, because at the end of the day, we are the
- 36:14light and salt of the earth, and baby you shining and we can taste
- 36:17you from a man listener. Okay, Like literally, you keep bringing Jesus
- 36:22up, bringing Jesus up, but it's like literally you I don't know,
- 36:25and don't people are your holy righteous people that tie tribute just talking about I
- 36:31neave y'all a pipe down for saying. When I make this statement, it's
- 36:34almost that you embody Jesus so much that it's like you you are, like
- 36:38that's what we're supposed to do. I know your flaws and everything, but
- 36:43the fact that your foundation is so intact, girl, that when I tell
- 36:46you that's so friends, and to be in the industry that you're in.
- 36:51People look down on entertainment so much and they say bad things. But the
- 36:55fact that I see you as a woman of God first, like I literally,
- 36:59that's wanna start following you. I was like, oh, she's a
- 37:00woman of God like her think too big for me not to follow. That's
- 37:05why I start following you. And so I just want to say thank you
- 37:08man, Like literally, you are the bridge because you love the bridge so
- 37:12much. You can only be what you respect and honor. I love that
- 37:15like you can only do you can only do watch this. You can only
- 37:20be who you study to people. Let me tell you something, But is
- 37:23it Pastor Stephen right, listen, Bishop, I don't want to get her
- 37:30on. I honor him just because you honor him as you should. Listen.
- 37:35Let me say it. Let me tell you something. And the thing
- 37:37I have respect everybody got a tow that ain't oily or annoying it. Let
- 37:40me just say that because some of y'all get your own sealf titles. But
- 37:44because I've seen you, you you give him, you reference him so much,
- 37:50I'm like, Okay, he didn't done something. You know, he's
- 37:52speaking some type of good word. You don't pour her like that when I
- 37:59tell you that, Like, the quickest way to get cut off is to
- 38:02say anything sideways about him, his wife, his daughters, or his dog.
- 38:07Talk about sugar Bear, not sugar Bear. Come on, talk about
- 38:10sugar Bear, like I don't. I don't play that. I don't play
- 38:13that with any because the Bible says touch not mine anointed, and do my
- 38:16prophit no harm. If I see anyone on my timeline talking about any man
- 38:20or woman of God, I block them, like I got so many people
- 38:22blocked on the other people's behalf. Like I see people talking about pm J
- 38:25blocked like I don't. I don't want to be connected to that because you're
- 38:29bringing a Christians, but especially not my Man of God, because I would
- 38:32not be who I am what I am if it were not for God sending
- 38:37him to us. Because he's just you. You really got to interview him.
- 38:40He's different from anyone I've ever met, Like with the Church, like
- 38:45I just I remember when I first came. It was in two thousand and
- 38:47eight. We've been on his leadership for fifteen years now, but the first
- 38:52I came by myself. The first night was around Valentine's Day, and I
- 38:55remember the slogan for the church was living a religious free life style. And
- 39:00when I tell you, that thing confused me. I was like, what
- 39:04does that mean? I'm coming to church for to become more religious? Like
- 39:06I want to be religious, that's what we're here for, right. I
- 39:08was so confused that I came back and what I learned was that there's a
- 39:13difference between religion and relationship, and religion is just a bunch of rules and
- 39:16regulations, and my church doesn't do any of that. Like and honestly,
- 39:22I wasn't. I wasn't church as they say, Like I went to Catholic
- 39:24Church, which was a whole nother thing. But I didn't know about like
- 39:27he jokes about, you know the remembrance table that's not the Bible, or
- 39:30you know the fish fries and all these things that they do that we ain't
- 39:36have no fish fry yf for the time. But like, I just didn't
- 39:39grow up like that, So I didn't know about all the churchisms and the
- 39:43church hurt and all that kind of stuff. I just knew that he was
- 39:45radical and that I had radical faith, and you know, everything that he
- 39:52poured out. We were catching and implementing. It didn't matter what he said.
- 39:54If he said, God said go out here, knock on the table
- 39:59three times and and say you want, I don't know, Like, it
- 40:02doesn't matter what it was like, we were gonna do it because we had
- 40:05the faith to believe. And while a lot of other people were not implementing
- 40:08what they were learning, Like, you can run and jumper on the church
- 40:12all you want, but if you're not going home and implementing, you have
- 40:15a notebook full of notes. If you're not implementing, it's not gonna work
- 40:17for you. And we were going home and implementing. And while we were
- 40:20looking broke on the outside, and while we were pulling up in cabs,
- 40:23we all got the same information and we all went home. And if you
- 40:25all to implement it, you can't be mad at us. They look at
- 40:28us like we're aliens now, like we're like just like what, like how
- 40:31did y'all the same thing? I'm sitting under the same word, the same
- 40:37the same annoyinging, the same thing. And I know, and I don't
- 40:40mean it's like shady, but I can feel you from where you where you're
- 40:44coming from, because there was a point in time and I'm still growing.
- 40:49Yeah, I haven't even hit my pinnacle point yet, you know what I'm
- 40:52saying. And people like I've gotten to talk though you you you run it
- 40:57up after this leader? Are you doing this on? I'm just like,
- 41:00what y'all don't know is what you were talking about the inn work. I
- 41:04know how broken I was, and I know how much healing I still need.
- 41:07Why wouldn't I stay on the same oil that got me to the place.
- 41:12Don't ever listen to those people. I'm telling if you don't do anything
- 41:15else, do not listen to those people. I don't care what they say.
- 41:17They there's so much that Jack and family members have said to me.
- 41:23But there's an individual, that individual girl, because we don't know who it
- 41:34is now. But I had made a post on Facebook and you know,
- 41:37like in I don't know if all churches do have been like Black churches,
- 41:40they call it the first family, like the pastor the wife, you know.
- 41:45So I was like, they drive Cadillacts and anytime I'm like out,
- 41:49I'm like, oh, is that them like waving? Because I love to
- 41:51see them out like I love them, They're my parents. So I made
- 41:53a post that was like, does anybody else break their necks when they see
- 41:57black cadillacts and see if it's a member of the first family. It's just
- 41:59a joke for the church. Somebody was saying that. They're like, I'm
- 42:06trying. I'm trying so hard to be diplomatic. Somebody posted something like,
- 42:10oh day, you act like the president was in town. They're like,
- 42:15I was trying to see if you were talking about member of the president's family,
- 42:17Like, y'all, I act like he's a celebrity or something. I'll
- 42:20like, like he's a rapper. And I thought that was so profound that
- 42:22they said that, right, she said, you act like he's a rapper
- 42:25or something like a celebrity. I'm like, so we're saying that it's okay
- 42:30and normal to give that kind of honor and respect to a celebrity because they're
- 42:37rapping about whatever. But I can't do that for a man of God.
- 42:39That's changed my life, Like do you like it's so deep. Sometimes you
- 42:44just have to listen to what people are saying. You said, you act
- 42:45like he's a celebrity or something. So that's what, like, what is
- 42:51a celebrity? What does that even mean, if somebody that's popular, he's
- 42:53popular, Like, what are you saying? Why is that not okay?
- 42:55Somebody that's done something for me? But you can do it to Jez.
- 42:59And that's because Jez doesn't know. You never will like how you'll get clout
- 43:04clout for a pictures that I went to the Jesus cuntcer, I went to
- 43:07the orchestra. But when a picture of me and my Man of God,
- 43:08you're mad? Why is that? Why does that make sense? It just
- 43:12doesn't ever, it's backwards, and that's why you're broke. I'm sorry if
- 43:16he did, but their life like he's done for your But the end,
- 43:20I'm so glad, she said this implementation what makes me dick like we get
- 43:23the same thing we could be in it. I been is somebody in the
- 43:28church, in the same church that's been there the same amount of time and
- 43:31longer, and they trying to figure out how you and I'm like, girls,
- 43:37I sat right next to you for all fifteen years. I just went
- 43:40out and did it. And it hurt. Did it was it easy?
- 43:43No? It hurt? Like hell, do you know what it's like to
- 43:45tithe out of somebody's grossmith? They're already getting garnished, like it didn't make
- 43:50sense. We did things that didn't look like it made sense. It didn't
- 43:53to the natural mind, it doesn't make sense. But we did the things
- 43:58because we just knew that it was gonna work somehow, like we felt it
- 44:01on the inside. And I'll say this my apostle. Also, he preached
- 44:05a message one time about checkpoints, and checkpoints are really important for us on
- 44:08this journey. A checkpoint is basically a moment in time where you know that
- 44:13you're on the right path, Like something happens, you're like, Okay,
- 44:15for sure that was God, Like I don't know, you know, what's
- 44:17been going on, but I know that that was God. So I'm going
- 44:20to keep going. Yeah, And we had several of those instances where it's
- 44:22like, Okay, I think we're on the right path. One of those
- 44:24this is a crazy story. So we like we probably lived over the path.
- 44:30We've been married fifteen years. We've probably lived in like thirty different places.
- 44:34We'd get kicked out, like you know whatever. So one of these
- 44:37times we had no place to stay. We were living with his aunt,
- 44:39and we found a cute little town home in Grayson Valley and like back then
- 44:44granted countertops for the thing and the stainless Still, like we were so excited.
- 44:47We probably shouldn't even try to get it. We couldn't really afford it,
- 44:50but like we were so excited. We talked to the people. We're
- 44:53like, we don't have the down payment now, but we'll have it this
- 44:55day. And there's just so we've always had so much favor so like,
- 44:58okay, well, you know, adjust it and you can pay it in
- 45:00two weeks and we'll hold it for you. So I had just started working
- 45:05a night shift job at dunkin Donuts and I've been working for like two weeks.
- 45:08So you know, you don't get your first check right away. So
- 45:09like we had calculated when I would get my first check, and it was
- 45:13right around time. You know, it was a Friday. He was getting
- 45:15his, I was getting mine. Anyway, we had calculated that we would
- 45:17have exact amount that we needed to move into this place. We're so excited
- 45:21they approved us, even though we probably should have been approved. Like boom,
- 45:24we're gonna move in on this Friday. We're gonna have the money.
- 45:28I'm gonna pick up my check. We'll put it with his and get the
- 45:30place the Wednesday before the Friday that we thought we were gonna get get paid.
- 45:35We're supposed to get paid. Yeah, church was over. I was
- 45:37a praise dancer, so we had practice that night. So someone walks up
- 45:42to me that don't know. I'd seen her before, but I'd never spoken
- 45:44to her, and she grabs my hand and I can tell she's put money
- 45:47in my hand, right, So she puts money in my hand and she's
- 45:52like she's looking me deep in my eyes and I was like thank you,
- 45:54and she's like looking at it and I'm like okay. And I realized why
- 45:58she was looking at it like that later, but I I took the money
- 46:00and I was like, oh. So I called my husband back in he's
- 46:01waiting in the car, and I handed to him. I was like,
- 46:05somebody just gave us this. He's like okay. So he goes out to
- 46:07the car and then he calls me right back and he's like okay, look,
- 46:09I was like what. He was like, this is three hundred and
- 46:13fifty dollars And I was like what because again back then like that was that's
- 46:16like that's his whole check in a week. And I'm like what And he's
- 46:21like yeah, and I realized that while she's looking in my eyes like that,
- 46:23she's like, God told me to give you this is what she said.
- 46:25She said, God told me to give you this, and I'm thinking
- 46:27it's like twenty bucks, but now she probably it was probably a faith walk
- 46:30for her, right, and she like three and fifty dollars, I'm giving
- 46:32you this. So I'm like what, so, you know, praise dances
- 46:37over. I go out to the car and we're like, what is this
- 46:39for? That's crazy? So this is a lesson. We actually ended up
- 46:43jacking it up, but it was the biggest lesson in my life. We
- 46:46ended I think we ended up buying like some shoes with it, which is
- 46:49terrible because what we should have done was ask got what it was for,
- 46:52and she said, God told you to give me, like told me to
- 46:53give you this, so good. We squandered it. Friday comes around,
- 47:00is today we're moving into our townhouse with a granted countertops. Stayless. Still,
- 47:04I go up to Dunkin Donuts. They're like, oh, since you
- 47:07just started, you don't get paid until the next week. Kayla, Kyla,
- 47:13listen to me. Listen to me. So not only did I not
- 47:16get paid. But when we calculated that three point fifty, because I want
- 47:22to say it was like three fifty three year crazy number, was exactly what
- 47:28we were missing to get in that townhome. So we go back to them
- 47:31and we try our hand at favor again and guess what they're like, No,
- 47:36we already moved too many things around for you. We're not gonna be
- 47:37able to do it. That's a checkpoint. Even though it didn't work out
- 47:43the way that it should have worked out because we made a mistake, it
- 47:45was almost a bigger lesson for us to always seek God on everything, because
- 47:52if we had been like, Okay, what is this for, he would
- 47:54have been like, chill out, don't spend it. And then when we
- 47:57would have been in the townhouse, we didn't get in it and we ended
- 47:59up living with his for some more months. But when I tell you it
- 48:01was the exact amount that how many lessons does that teach you? It teaches
- 48:07you to make sure you seek God. It teaches you that God is sovereign,
- 48:09that he's all freaking knowing right, because he knew ahead of time that
- 48:15I wasn't gonna get my check and that I would need that amount of money
- 48:16to get in the town home, and he was looking at for us beforehand.
- 48:20We weren't even looking at for ourselves. That's an even better lesson to
- 48:23me. Right, your face is so funny. I can't tell you how
- 48:28many stories we have like that. Like, we have so many stories of
- 48:32just God being so faithful in us, learning who he is. Like that
- 48:37taught me who God is. God is a provider. He knew that we
- 48:40would not have the money. I'm thinking, oh, you know, I'm
- 48:44get my dunkin Donut check. We're gonna be straight. Let's spend this money.
- 48:45No, ma'am right, I have, I have, so we're gonna
- 48:52have to do a party. I have so many stories like that, So
- 48:54I got questions, questions, So in the moment, it didn't dawn on
- 49:01you that, hey, maybe we can use this TOWRDS going into the to
- 49:06the place because we thought, okay, we knew what we had going on.
- 49:09We are I'm like, on Friday, we're getting the dunkin Donuts check,
- 49:14so we're gonna be straight, right, thought, I thought I knew
- 49:17and obviously we didn't even gottenre Wow. Wow, So my question. We
- 49:24got questions. The teacher I'm raising my hand. Teacher Kayla, Kayla,
- 49:30teacher, Molla, Maley Maae girl. So this came up and I was
- 49:36thinking about this. I said, Lord, am I gonna be able to
- 49:37answer this question? Asked her this question sound without sounding bad, And you
- 49:42just kind of led me into this questions. Practicality is one of the things
- 49:45that we love on this on this show. Yeah, practically speaking, how
- 49:52in the world did you go from managing zero dollars or mismanaging three hundred and
- 50:00fifty dollars to now managing millions? Maybe this is the safe space multiple I'm
- 50:09not doing very well. It's real, you know. And I literally had
- 50:15this conversation yesterday with a friend. I was like, I don't know how
- 50:19I went from making the last year I worked to nine to five I was
- 50:22making. I made fourteen thousand dollars for the entire year, Like, I
- 50:27don't know how I went from making that in a year to making that in
- 50:30a day. And it still seems like things are all over the place,
- 50:37Like I make great money, but it's kind of hard to streamline it when
- 50:40you're used to. I mean, like the way you handle one thing is
- 50:44the way you handle everything. That's a quote that I just heard. I
- 50:45was like, so that is the truth. Like, I make a ton
- 50:51of money, I have a ton of expenses, and there's things that still
- 50:53could be tightened up, you know, And that's something that I wish I
- 50:58would have handled THEO for because you'll sit there and be like, how in
- 51:02the world am I making this kind of money? And it's like, it
- 51:07doesn't it doesn't feel like what you think it should feel like if you don't
- 51:09have things in place, like if you don't have financial systems in place.
- 51:13And that's something that I'm working on now, having a financial planner and just
- 51:15being like, Okay, tell me what to do because obviously I'm not doing
- 51:19right. Not saying I'm struggling by any means, but you know, the
- 51:21management. Yeah, it's just like talk about this all the time because she's
- 51:24good at that, listen, But just the thing though, I wasn't either.
- 51:29So I'm a licensed cosmetologist. So I started out on my own full
- 51:32time in twenty fifteen as a full time entrepreneur and doing hair. You know,
- 51:38I was working from the rue to to the tutor, so you know,
- 51:40I was making I was making pretty good money, but I was like,
- 51:44where is that? Facts? Where is that? And just coming from
- 51:47I came from a single parent home and I literally watched my mom get up
- 51:51pretty much work sun up, the sundown and still like it was like the
- 51:53ends weren't meeting right. So that was just naturally in me to work.
- 51:55But I'm like, lord, I don't know where my money going. So
- 51:59I actually started with a lizel who sent me the who sent me the post.
- 52:05She started doing my budget for me because I ain't know how. I
- 52:07didn't know how to budget right, but I knew. I was like,
- 52:09Lord, I know I'm making the money, I don't know where it is.
- 52:13Well, when I started to sit down and track stuff, she would
- 52:16say this, send me this. She asked me the simplest question. She
- 52:20said, what is your weekly goal? I said, what you mean?
- 52:24She's like, no, like you need to have a number of how much
- 52:30you need to make a week to cover your your expense on the on the
- 52:32minimum side, I was like, I ain't never think about that. I
- 52:36would just go make the money and then you know, pay make it ain't
- 52:39spending. Yeah, And so literally I was not tithing at the time either,
- 52:44because that's my saving grades I'm be honest. If it wasn't for me
- 52:46being tier, i'd probably be broke making millionaire. I cannot not tie now
- 52:52off top, like if I found a dollar in the ground. God's getting
- 52:53to come on. So that's the reason I keep making money. But I'm
- 52:57jacking things up. I'm being honest with you, like I need you got
- 53:00her name that I was about to say, like this, we we we're
- 53:02gonna have you on the podcast because we really we really have to get the
- 53:07stewardship part right, like we got to because the things about it is we
- 53:12can give, give, give, give gift, and that's another thing I
- 53:15give to God, but I get to random people. Car to keep track
- 53:20of that because one that's part of the testimony. That's like, that's the
- 53:22part of the testimony for somebody else and us because you still he says,
- 53:27I give seed to the sword, and if you continue the sword, so
- 53:30there's more seed, right, you know what I'm saying. So it's like
- 53:32we have a responsibility not just to our sales, but to God. And
- 53:36I just thank you for one. This is in disarrayed, but I but
- 53:45but to the things that keep me going. I may hear a crap ton
- 53:47of money. I tithe and I give a lot like I get. Honestly,
- 53:53what I spend the most money on is food, and that's really bad.
- 53:57I'm a foodie like I will. I will spend this and chickful like
- 54:01break this lunch and dimming out. Yeah. Yeah, I go to restaurants.
- 54:07Okay, how many a big part of the budget twice already today.
- 54:12But that's not the point. I mean, if y'all want to give Kayla
- 54:19something, just give her cards shrimp gift cards. Yes, what's your favor?
- 54:24What's your favorite seafood place? Automatic is really good hair and Burningham Automatic
- 54:30seafood Automatic. It's called automatic. It's I shouldn't have said it because it's
- 54:36gonna be booked out, but it's really it's like a super I love like
- 54:42a low lit restaurant. I don't know what that is, Like, I
- 54:44love the cozy vibe. So it's like it's really nice. It's downtown.
- 54:47Okay, Well they appreciate that. This shout out. You can use this
- 54:51free you know, shout us out to all right, listen, we got
- 54:57to help each other out for sure, for real, Like I love I
- 55:00love how your you were able to use your daughter's story. Something that highlighted
- 55:07in that for me was that the next stay over wasn't phased by the extra
- 55:15No. I would have been so embarrassed if they even saw one of the
- 55:19new stories. I'm not even kidding. Look, I would have embarrassed.
- 55:22But the city that you were in, you you needed to be here and
- 55:28let me let me, let me make the statement. Because people act like
- 55:30the Birmingham don't got nobody or we don't have I think we got some of
- 55:35the best talent around. Our mindset is checktive and once once we get out
- 55:42outside of ourselves and just actively work that faith that you were talking about,
- 55:47I think we'll be good. Speaking of faith, girl, let me tell
- 55:51you something I watched. You didn't do an interview. I watched a speech
- 55:54that you did that blessed every ounce of me. Was my talk so in
- 56:04this in this speech you basically the speech was entitled tell you say yes to
- 56:09fear yes right, And it blessed me so well because, for one,
- 56:15I love how balanced you are. Because it's like a lot of people will
- 56:19like show, oh I'm the glory of this, and I'm a glory that
- 56:22blah blah, blah, but you don't mind showing people are even announcing the
- 56:25ugly part and that in that take you would in that speech you you said,
- 56:31hey, I said fear to yes, the fear here and here Like
- 56:36you was a campaign manager, girl, I don't know how or why,
- 56:40Like I literally I'm like, you want me to do what? I didn't
- 56:43even know you heard me talk about. I didn't know what the incumbent was.
- 56:45I thought she was called him ignorant because I, like, I found
- 56:49myself in the craziest situations because of faith, like I have. Have you
- 56:53ever seen the meme of it's the dude like he has his hands on his
- 56:57hips and he's looking at the closet and has like all these core it's in
- 57:00like all these machines and he's trying to figure it out. You gotta look
- 57:02it up. It's like this funny meme where it's like he's trying to figure
- 57:05out what to do. It's like, how did he get hired? But
- 57:07I've actually been in that exact situation. Like I used to sign myself up
- 57:10for jobs that I like sim I knew how to do or didn't know how
- 57:14to do it all. But I'd be like I couldigure it out because it
- 57:15was in our birthdays. Like I'd get on Craigslist and find me an odd
- 57:19job, okay, Like I've sold peanuts in the stands at NASCAR. I
- 57:22have literally gotten a job where I was supposed to go in there and like
- 57:25take inventory on some machines, and I was looking just like that dude,
- 57:30like I didn't know what I was doing. I have. I became a
- 57:32makeup artist. I had never done makeup ever in my life, never put
- 57:36makeup on myself or put it on anybody else. I got a job at
- 57:37clinique as a makeup artist, and clinique that I learned as I went,
- 57:43Like I've never been afraid to try something, Like I'm just I have crazy
- 57:45faith. I can't be told no, like I feel like I call it
- 57:51short circuit when somebody tells me no, Like I've gotten to a place where
- 57:53I can either think my way out of a no, which I had to
- 57:57do for many years, or now it sounds boogie back and pay my way.
- 58:00I don't know, Like you ain't got no seats at the table,
- 58:01you ain't got no you know, reservations. Okay, here, he's not
- 58:05all this, but so when people tell me now, I'm like, m
- 58:07no, there's got to be a way. So like I've always had those
- 58:10characteristics. I just have crazy faith all sign. My husband's like, how
- 58:15you go get a job at clinique and you don't wear makeup. I'm like,
- 58:20I just I'll figure it out. Why you got makeup artists not even
- 58:24sign it up or even saying hey I'll do this, I'll do that,
- 58:28and all they say. I love when they say these is it's it's everybody's
- 58:32being a makeup it's cluttered, because that's I have a box for that.
- 58:37Oh Jesus deep down say that around me. I listen when when I've had
- 58:45strangers say that, I'm like, what do you really want to be doing?
- 58:47Well? I really want to be I really want to sell lashes.
- 58:51But everyone's doing that. I will smack you because listen to me. That
- 58:54irritates my soul because first of all, they don't know where I came from,
- 58:58Like, don't ever make it? Excuse around me, like, don't
- 59:00do it? Is there not a McDonald's right across the street from Burger King?
- 59:07Is there? Do they both sell burgers? Are their lines wrapped around
- 59:12each quarter? Yes? So don't ever talk about what you won't do because
- 59:16somebody else is doing it because you bring something unique to what you do.
- 59:22One of them's flame broiled, right, and then the other one. I
- 59:23don't know what they do it because it has a flavor. But my point
- 59:25is you bring something unique everybody. I you know you're doing a podcast.
- 59:32It seems like everyone's doing a podcast now, but what you bring to the
- 59:36table is different. Tapatha Brown chose you to talk to you got killed the
- 59:39Model Maker. No, no, no, But I've said no to several
- 59:45podcasts that I didn't want to do. I just love the way you came
- 59:47up to me. You're like, oh my gosh. I'm like, I'm
- 59:50on your vision board, Like how could I not do it? Like,
- 59:52but we haven't told them the story. Yeah, you have not to.
- 59:55So I and I'm gonna let talk to pretend her because she got to tell
- 1:00:00her reaction because I love her reactions. So I've been following. I say
- 1:00:05this earlier. I've been following Calor for some years now, and I seen
- 1:00:08I was following before the big hit happened, right, And so I went
- 1:00:14to Woman Evolved in September shout out to pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts. We love
- 1:00:19you. I can't wait to do the podcast with see whether I'm only Warman
- 1:00:22evall or you on just a for podkids, you heard it. So I
- 1:00:28actually signed up to serve for Woman Involved and I was on the PR team.
- 1:00:31So for some for some reason, they had me go look at for
- 1:00:35somebody. I don't know what I was doing at the moment, but I
- 1:00:37forgot what I was doing because all I saw was her and she was in
- 1:00:43a front seat on the specific section. You know what I was looking for.
- 1:00:45I was looking for my line sister. I'm looking for my sister and
- 1:00:50to give her her because I hadn't seen her, and she was in the
- 1:00:52section that she was in, and I think I forgot to even look for
- 1:00:58And I saw the Woman of God and we locked eyes and I'm like this,
- 1:01:01y'all, like if you see me on YouTube? Oh? Like I
- 1:01:05was like, I'm trying not to scream. It's forty thousand people in this
- 1:01:09space and I see her. Somebody that I wrote on my vision list for
- 1:01:15the podcast to interview at this point, I and when I wrote it down,
- 1:01:19I wouldn't really interview anybody. It was just me. I decided to
- 1:01:22write names down, and baby, I've been checking them things off, baby,
- 1:01:25and so I freeze and I freak, like I am literally freaking out.
- 1:01:30I don't even know. I can't even tell you what my body was
- 1:01:31doing, but she can. And I go up to her. I'm like,
- 1:01:36oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I said, can I hug
- 1:01:38you? Like I'm sight nervous because I'm like, she is great than me,
- 1:01:45Like she might not be a celebrity, y'all, but she she my
- 1:01:46celebrity. Okay, She's done a lot for me, okay, and so
- 1:01:50I'm gonna let you. Yeah. So I mean, I was like,
- 1:01:53I don't view myself how other people view me, which is probably a good
- 1:01:57thing. I don't think we should ever be grand in our own eyes.
- 1:02:01Like I'm not saying I think I'm not special, but like when I go
- 1:02:07out and Birmingham, especially, like I get stopped every single day, somebody's
- 1:02:10either telling me they've done my program or like they know me from social media,
- 1:02:15and it's it's still kind of strange to me because I was just twenty
- 1:02:20twenty. Just blew me up. So I go out places and I was
- 1:02:23at breakfast and the lady behind me it's like, oh my gosh, I'm
- 1:02:25in your program, Like what, Like you're Caucasian and on the other side
- 1:02:29of town. Are you serious? So like I got kind of used to
- 1:02:31it in Birmingham, but like I'm in Dallas, Texas in a room full
- 1:02:37of women, like forty thousand people and I'm sitting there. She comes up
- 1:02:39to me and she's like, oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, it's
- 1:02:42you. I'm like, shitly, she doesn't be me, she don't think
- 1:02:44I'm someone else, but I feel special, like I'm not like Hollywood.
- 1:02:50I would never like I get just as excited to see y'all as you are
- 1:02:53me because it's always a reminder of what I've built and what God has done
- 1:02:58in me. So I was super excited to see you. I gave you
- 1:02:59a I was like, what's your name on her Facebook? Like I'm my
- 1:03:04god. I thought it was just as cool as you did. Like I
- 1:03:06don't think I'll ever get to the point where I'm like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:09I'm Kayla, like like that's just not me. I'm I'm just me
- 1:03:13day and day out. So yeah, I was excited. And then you
- 1:03:15told me that I was on your vision board. I was like, Oh,
- 1:03:17for sure, we can do this because how else would we bump into
- 1:03:20each other and in a room with all these people. So it was really
- 1:03:22cool. And I told that story several times to other people. Really yeah,
- 1:03:25I was just telling that the other day. I was like, cause
- 1:03:28they were like, you're out of talent, nobody's gonna recognize you here.
- 1:03:30I was like, they might be cause I was in Dallas and somebody came
- 1:03:35up to me and people. But you know what I love about this story.
- 1:03:37There's an extension to their story. So watch this. So even though
- 1:03:43you gave me permission to reach out to you to do the podcast, I
- 1:03:46was still scared. Are you serious? I was still scared. I was
- 1:03:51still wrapped up a little bit in fear because I was like, Okay,
- 1:03:55it's the imposter syndrome, Like, can I really y'all deal with that?
- 1:04:00Man? Can I really interview somebody so great like her? And then the
- 1:04:03impact that that would have and is going to have for my platform? Let's
- 1:04:09just be real. You know what I'm saying. That's not why I did
- 1:04:11it, because I go I'm live by Holy Spirit foremost, there's a lot
- 1:04:14of people I can reach out to, but I don't like you just said
- 1:04:16right, and so I thank you, and I thank God for allowing you
- 1:04:19to feel this be a safe space for you to be interviewed. But I
- 1:04:25really didn't even respond to your your your yes, because I was still not
- 1:04:31prepare. And so what people don't understand is the Tabitha Brown broke something in
- 1:04:38me, like me saying yes and then actually doing it. She looked at
- 1:04:43me and she said, I told I told her this is so exclusives.
- 1:04:47When we got back, when we got finished and we got done backstage,
- 1:04:51right we got backstage, I was like, the first thing I did,
- 1:04:55I said, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I messed up on
- 1:04:58this question. I'm in my went directly like negative negative negative, And she
- 1:05:04looked at me. She said no, she said, you made not one
- 1:05:09mistake. Wow. And I looked at her, Oh, I looked at
- 1:05:15her, Caleb, and I was so confused because I sometimes I feel like
- 1:05:20I am the mistake yep. And so when she looked at me and said
- 1:05:27you made not one mistake, right, thank you, you may not one
- 1:05:31mistake that gave me so much confidence and then being able to like so many
- 1:05:39people in Birmingham didn't know who I was right and still don't. But the
- 1:05:45people that were there, I heard nothing bad like I've heard nothing continuously good
- 1:05:53things. And I was like, you are meteorologist. I can't think I
- 1:05:56think it's Tonia she she me out, I think she's WBrC or yeah,
- 1:06:03she shouted me out. And that was the biggest compliment. She was like,
- 1:06:09girl, you did that, and if y'all gonna follow her black girl
- 1:06:12magic. That was a big deal to me because what people don't understand is
- 1:06:16before the before the interview, I was contemplating on getting Fred Davenport to mentor
- 1:06:26me. I was gonna reach out to him. Scared to do it,
- 1:06:28Wow, I was gonna reach out to him because I like the way the
- 1:06:30way he interviews as well. He just keep it real, you know what
- 1:06:32I'm saying, But he's still polished and poised. And the reason why I
- 1:06:35was going to do that was because, for one, he's local in Birmingham.
- 1:06:40And then David Shan he was telling us to study study other interviewers,
- 1:06:45and I did that. I literally took what he said and I started implementing
- 1:06:48what he said so fast forward, I still ain't had no one on one
- 1:06:54training. I'm just going you do a great job. Thank you, and
- 1:07:00I'm like, okay, girl. The extension to the story is that you
- 1:07:05were proud of me and you reached out to me. You was like,
- 1:07:09hey, I meant what I said. Like, if you had not done
- 1:07:11that, I don't know if I would have still had the good Wow,
- 1:07:14you broke something in me and said, hey, no, I committed to
- 1:07:16something to you a minute ago. I still want us to do that.
- 1:07:19I mean it did, and I even meant it more now. She said,
- 1:07:23this is what she told me. I want you to catch it.
- 1:07:24She said, we got to keep up the momentum. We I'm glad you
- 1:07:30called what I said. I'm a girls girl, like she said, we
- 1:07:33got to keep up with the momentum. And that girl, my past with
- 1:07:40women has not been good. So for somebody that don't even know me,
- 1:07:45like this week, girl, I saw that. I was so excited.
- 1:07:48I was like, oh my gosh, that's the girl that I met in
- 1:07:50Dallas. I'm telling she got an interview times around and I'm wondering, like,
- 1:07:55out of all those people that were tired, like I was tagging myself,
- 1:07:58I didn't know what it was for, and I wasn't probably do an
- 1:08:00interview, but she was like for creators. I was like, I'm tagging
- 1:08:01myself. But when I saw it was somebody that I knew, I was
- 1:08:03super excited for you. Of course, Like if I told you I was
- 1:08:06gonna do it, I'm gonna do it. I'm not. I don't care
- 1:08:10how big I get. I don't care who my clients are. I will
- 1:08:13never be a B word. I don't know if we can say that I'm
- 1:08:15here, but I will never be a B word, Like I'm not gonna
- 1:08:18do that. I'm me. This is this is how I became me,
- 1:08:21So why would I change that? When I when I elevate financially or with
- 1:08:27clout, like I'm just I'm me. I walk around and look like I'm
- 1:08:30homeless most days, Like my son's a little tear up today, like I
- 1:08:32just I'm just me and I and I love it, and I'll say this.
- 1:08:38I didn't really start to blow up until I stopped trying to be someone
- 1:08:44else on social media. So I got on Instagram late. I got on
- 1:08:46Instagram like twenty fourteen. I think it came out like two thousand and eight.
- 1:08:50But when I first got on there, like I'm scrolling, I'm like,
- 1:08:53Okay, we're perfect here. This is what we do like Instagram,
- 1:08:56we're perfect, Like you know, that's what we do. So I would
- 1:08:58have when I go back and look at some of my older stuff, I'm
- 1:09:00like, what was that caption? Like what was I even saying? That's
- 1:09:03not my voice? What the heck was I talking about? Because I was
- 1:09:05trying to be I was trying to grow followers, like I was trying to
- 1:09:09be popular. I'll be terrified to go live. First time I ever went
- 1:09:13live on Instagram was in twenty twenty because I was I was scared, like
- 1:09:15I felt like I had to show up as a certain person because people wouldn't
- 1:09:20like me. It wasn't until twenty twenty that was like bump it and I
- 1:09:24started being like completely me where I am a goofball, like I forget things
- 1:09:28like I'll be on live and I'll bet what was I talking about, guys,
- 1:09:30because I'll lose my trade of thought in the middle. At first,
- 1:09:32I would freak me out. I would get off, but I'd just be
- 1:09:34like, y'all, I forget things really easily. Can y'all tell me what
- 1:09:36I was talking about, and they'll tell me and then I'll just keep on
- 1:09:39going. Or the whole thing was shrimp. Like all my followers know I
- 1:09:42love shrimp, so when they hop on my lives, they dropped shrimp emojis.
- 1:09:45That's like the thing to tell us that they're og Like they instantly start
- 1:09:47dropping shrimp emojis, and I love that. It's like we're a family.
- 1:09:50My kids used to be running by, like my son used to be.
- 1:09:53He never had clothes on. Judah, don't know if you're following me back
- 1:09:55then own he had his own hashtag and everything. It's called freedom Friday.
- 1:09:59Would you he never had close them, but he's run by naked. They'd
- 1:10:01be in the background fighting. I'll be on Live telling the story and I'll
- 1:10:04start crying. I've taken my wig off a Live, my lashes like I
- 1:10:08am just me and they absolutely love it. And I'm like, all this
- 1:10:11time I was trying to be you know, this perfect, perfect picture,
- 1:10:14perfect model person, and all I had to do was be me. And
- 1:10:16that's when my followers start growing. That's when I was just me and it's
- 1:10:21so much easier. Your followers started growing because you showed up. Yep,
- 1:10:27come on, your followers couldn't follow you. Why you was trying to be
- 1:10:30somebody else. But when Kayla showed up. With Kayla showed up, then
- 1:10:35they're like, oh, that's that's who I've been looking for, somebody who
- 1:10:38was real. And you know what they say people. I can show you
- 1:10:41at least fifteen messages recently where people like I just watched all your videos and
- 1:10:44I don't know, I just trust you, Like can I go ahead and
- 1:10:45sign up? They say that all the time. I don't know why I
- 1:10:48trust you, but I just do, Like can I give you my money?
- 1:10:50I just trust you. I trust you. I trust you. And
- 1:10:53it's because I'm not I'm being me like I'm not saying it all right,
- 1:10:58I'm you know, I'm goofy. I forget what I'm saying. They're like,
- 1:11:01you're so genuine, You're so genuine, You're so genuine. I trust
- 1:11:04you. Here's my money. That's what happens. Just me me, man.
- 1:11:09You just she's been dropping gyms, man like, this can't be your
- 1:11:13last time. Sus like, no, it's not. I'm gonna bring dad
- 1:11:15back and my apossible Okay, I I would love that. I'm gonna have
- 1:11:18to you know, I'm not wearing makeup that day because I feel like there's
- 1:11:23gonna be a whole box of probably not Like I don't even know why make
- 1:11:27up the church, because it's just it doesn't make sense. Man, you
- 1:11:32together, Yeah, you feel like family though, I'll just have to say
- 1:11:34that, like I don't say with our family now, Like yeah, and
- 1:11:40I think I think for people that are elevating and going to the next level,
- 1:11:45mm hmm, Sorry, there's something outside to start up you can't talk
- 1:11:50about because as you elevate and as the money comes in. You know how
- 1:11:56people always say, like you hear this quote, money isn't everything. Money
- 1:11:58is and everything, and you're like, uh, let me get a little
- 1:12:00bit and then I'll tell you, but like just go wire me and then
- 1:12:03I'll tell you, like money doesn't make you happy? Wire me and then
- 1:12:06tell me, like that's how I used to be, Like what do you
- 1:12:09mean surely money equates to happiness. Last year almost took me out. Wow.
- 1:12:19Last year was the hardest year of my entire life, to the point
- 1:12:24where that pretty hundred thousand dollars car that I was talking about, Like,
- 1:12:28there were times I'm like if I just veer off to the right a little
- 1:12:30bit, it'll be over. And if I'm being completely honest, I'm gonna
- 1:12:38tell you something. When you walked up to me in Dallas at a Christian
- 1:12:45conference, I was sloppy, drunk and I'm not even a drinker, and
- 1:12:57I was at a Christian conference singing chant no More. It was that hard.
- 1:13:02Wow, it was that hard. And I made the most money I've
- 1:13:06ever made, got all the celebrity clients talking to Tasha Cobbs backstage, and
- 1:13:14I felt like my entire world was falling apart. So I'm here to say
- 1:13:18money truly is not everything. It can help you pay your bills, it
- 1:13:25can skip you to the front of the line you want to bribe somebody.
- 1:13:28But I learned that there's so many other things that are jacked up within me
- 1:13:34that money can't solve. And I spent so many years in survival mode,
- 1:13:40Like how am I gonna feed my kids today? She needs eight dollars for
- 1:13:45a field trip? How am I gonna What am I gonna sell to get
- 1:13:46eight? That? Like the day to day grind it was. It was
- 1:13:49survival mode. So I didn't have time to sit down and be like,
- 1:13:51hey, well your mom said to you. It kind of jacked you up.
- 1:13:56You have trauma from that. You know, you have rejection issues.
- 1:14:00You don't believe anyone really loves you. You think everyone's lying to you.
- 1:14:05You have imposter syndrome. There's so many things that started to be revealed,
- 1:14:12which I believe that God reveals things when it's time to heal from them.
- 1:14:15But I was like, Lord, could we rebuild them one at a time?
- 1:14:18Could you slow down on the revelation because it was like it was almost
- 1:14:23like it was all it once, and it's like I want to just like,
- 1:14:27can you wave a wand and just heal me? Because we know you
- 1:14:30can do things instantly, Lord, and if you're listening to God, you
- 1:14:32still could. But I'm like, I either want to be healed or I
- 1:14:36don't want to be here. That's that was where I was. That's where
- 1:14:39I was. I was like, this is too hard, it's too much.
- 1:14:43I either want to be healed or I can't do this anymore. I
- 1:14:45want it all to happen all at once, because this is ridiculous. And
- 1:14:48I was in therapy. I went. Honestly, I feel like therapy started
- 1:14:51the spiral I don't think we talk about this enough. Therapy started by spiral.
- 1:14:56I'm not saying it's bad, but like you gotta really be actively working
- 1:15:00on the things that they teach you, or like have a happy place to
- 1:15:03go to after you get out, because all I'm doing is like sitting in
- 1:15:06these deep dirt places that I've talked about, Like day they really did be
- 1:15:10like that, like that really happened. Like that's really jacked up. Why
- 1:15:13did that happen to me? Why? And that starts spiraling. So last
- 1:15:15year was really jacked up. And I have money. So that's my point,
- 1:15:17Like you still have to work on you and not think that when you
- 1:15:21get to this magical place in business or whatever the success is, that everything's
- 1:15:28going to be different because it's not. I know that took a depressing turn,
- 1:15:32but I just feel like because people look up to me and they're like,
- 1:15:38you know, Okayla, and they think everything's perfect, but no,
- 1:15:42like you know how many crying selfies I have, I'm weird. I take
- 1:15:44like if I am crying, well I have before, I have way more
- 1:15:47than I post it, but I do because and then people always say,
- 1:15:50well would you take a picture while your crying cause I document everything. I
- 1:15:53have a picture of me in my eighteenth birthday. The elevator stopped and I'm
- 1:15:57terrified of an elevator problem, like terrified it it happened on my birthday and
- 1:16:00I'm crying. Stay with the elevator or my eighteenth birthday, or turn my
- 1:16:03husbands and take a picture because I want memories. So that's why I crying
- 1:16:08pictures. But I post them because I want people to know that my life
- 1:16:12is not perfect. People think that success and money, oh you're good.
- 1:16:15No. No, I cry in my car a lot. My car is
- 1:16:18like a little therapy pod, so you know life is not perfect. No.
- 1:16:26First of all, man, I want to I want to say thank
- 1:16:32you for being feeling safe enough to expose that. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:16:41Like, I don't think that thank you because you just kind of confirmed
- 1:16:44what these is like for us, and that's important to me personally. That's
- 1:16:49the goal. The safe space for the influencers because you're definitely influencers, right,
- 1:16:57So there's no judgment here, right, suicide of thoughts been there.
- 1:17:00I have to fight depression, anxiety. I think I'm probably fighting depression right
- 1:17:04now because elevation. You don't know what they look like. No one's in
- 1:17:09my family has been doing the things I've been doing. I had to go
- 1:17:12outside, Coach CJ call my nerves about the interviewing on tablet because I thought
- 1:17:16I was impositive in like, didn't even have the money to go get to
- 1:17:24Dallas where I met you. Like, so it's real, like people don't
- 1:17:28understand the process or the backstory of a thing, but they just see the
- 1:17:30picture. And you are the one. You're the one, So it's gonna
- 1:17:34be hard. You're You're the one. You're the one at the front and
- 1:17:39you're breaking through for everybody else to come behind you. So it's gonna be
- 1:17:42hard. We are the ones. We are the one. That's actually a
- 1:17:46movement that my apostles started. We have shirts and bring you on, but
- 1:17:49they say I am the one, and it's a reminder like I am a
- 1:17:54generational curse breaker. I am the first in my family, whether they want
- 1:17:57to acknowledge it or not, I am the first to do what I'm doing
- 1:18:00on the level that I'm doing it, and I'm doing it for them and
- 1:18:03for everyone else. And you've done it well, And I want to say
- 1:18:10congratulations because I know you just said therapy because I was gonna ask you you
- 1:18:15have a therapist, and yet that opens it up. But what people don't
- 1:18:18tell you is, yeah, you need Jesus, you need therapists, but
- 1:18:21you also need community. And so my prayer for you is that God continues
- 1:18:27to keep you in community because that what that's what maintains the healing. That's
- 1:18:34good. And I'm gonna commit to you right now, like we got each
- 1:18:40other numbers now, like there's no reason, there's no reason that you can't
- 1:18:47be the I can't be the safe space for you off these cameras because they
- 1:18:50don't. That doesn't matter, Like we'll talk like I'm I'm talking to you
- 1:18:58switching up, no, Desira, no, Like I don't really let people
- 1:19:05in like that, And there's some holy spirit lied because people will have hurt
- 1:19:09me really really bad, and so I'm mindful of that. When the timing
- 1:19:13of the assignment right and I'm not calling you an assignment, but just when
- 1:19:16the timing of when things are supposed to happen, and they happen now because
- 1:19:21I can. I didn't have an understanding then when I asked you, but
- 1:19:28postab I have the understanding of a lot of things that you said, not
- 1:19:31the money yet, but we're gonna come into agreement that not yet, but
- 1:19:38the understanding. And sometimes we just need people to just say, hey,
- 1:19:42I understand, and it's okay. Feel this so you won't have to feel
- 1:19:46it anymore, go through this, so you won't have to go through it
- 1:19:49anymore. Be here so you won't have to be here anymore, and you
- 1:19:56won't have to do it alone. And you're not crazy. No, I'm
- 1:20:00not crazy, because baby, these people out bet these come, it's going
- 1:20:03to be like I've been there. I've been there because we don't talk to
- 1:20:06somebody else talk first. Yeah, we don't announce it until somebody else announce
- 1:20:11it first. And you just freed somebody by being honest about where you were.
- 1:20:15You know, it's not always easy, Like it's it's easier for me
- 1:20:17to talk about stuff like oh yeah back in twenty fifteen and I didn't have
- 1:20:20a car, But for me to be like, yeah, yesterday, I
- 1:20:24was in this place. Last year, I was in this place when people
- 1:20:28like knew of me. It's it's difficult, but it's so necessary. Yeah,
- 1:20:31because I hear the response to the people when I when I talk like
- 1:20:34this, I hear that they're in the same places. And why would I,
- 1:20:40for fear of embarrassment hold back somebody from their healing, like from breakthrough,
- 1:20:44from staying on earth another twenty four hours, like it's it's that serious,
- 1:20:48it's that deep, and talk about me. They talked about Jesus Kayla,
- 1:20:58I appreciate you man like this has been top two podcasts. I better
- 1:21:03because he always first obviously out I would give it to you. Brother.
- 1:21:10You look listen, I love he's so clean cut, he's brilliant, Like
- 1:21:15that man is literally brilliant. And he when I found out he was only
- 1:21:18thirty five, I like, I start feeling like, okay, well,
- 1:21:21I've I'm just gonna start over the next lifetime because obviously I'm behind. But
- 1:21:27he's he's just brilliant. Like just to watch him operate and his team is
- 1:21:30so excellent and they're all so kind, and I mean, he's just he's
- 1:21:34really brilliant and I'm honored to be working with him for like, so for
- 1:21:40you to even say that, yeah, I thank you. Y'all heard it
- 1:21:44from her. But I want we always allow our gifts to leave A final
- 1:21:50thought We've talked about a lot, and I know some people probably thought they
- 1:21:56were going to come in and learn how to pose and all that stuff like
- 1:22:00that. But I love how God, you know, orchestrates what he wants
- 1:22:05to get out and reveal in this space. And so you said a lot.
- 1:22:09You we went over a lot. But if there was anything out of
- 1:22:14everything that we talked about, if there was one thing that you wanted people
- 1:22:16to understand out of this podcast, out of this show, what would that
- 1:22:20be? Honestly, I would love my final words to be a prayer.
- 1:22:26If you don't mind, let's go. Can't pray for the people? Yeah?
- 1:22:28I cry when I pray? So all right, I got my tissue.
- 1:22:34Father, I thank you for this opportunity to sit with Jess and I
- 1:22:39thank you for all that you're doing in her life. It is evident that
- 1:22:43your hand is on her. Lord God, I thank you for every listener
- 1:22:46that may be hearing this today. God that may be in a space that
- 1:22:49I've talked about, that may be going to depression, that may be dealing
- 1:22:54with anxiety. God, that may not know what their next step is,
- 1:22:57that may not know what it is that you have for them. God,
- 1:22:59My prayer today is that you would help them to keep going until they hit
- 1:23:03that checkpoint. God, that you would help them to keep going so that
- 1:23:05they know that there's something on the other side. God. Even though it
- 1:23:09doesn't seem like anything's moving, it doesn't seem like anything's shifting. It seems
- 1:23:13like they've been stuck there in a place that they don't know how to get
- 1:23:15out of. God. I pray that your hand but on them. God.
- 1:23:19I pray that you would help them to understand that you have a plan
- 1:23:21and that you have a purpose for their life. God, even if it
- 1:23:25seems like nothing is moving. I pray that you would keep them on the
- 1:23:28side God until they see what it is that you've caught them to do.
- 1:23:31Lord God, I thank you that they would begin to see it before they
- 1:23:34see it, and that you would help them to walk out every plan and
- 1:23:39purpose that you have for their life. God, we ask that you cover
- 1:23:42them and that you protect them, and that you walk them into the promise
- 1:23:45in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Such a beautiful prayer. Man,
