- 1:50Speaker 4: we're gonna be talking festive fall. No, it's not technically
- 1:54Speaker 4: fall until the twenty second of this month, but yesterday
- 1:57Speaker 4: at presser was held downtown to talk about to fall.
- 2:00Speaker 4: We're going to talk to the new executive director Festival,
- 2:04Speaker 4: Zach Harrold, on the show today, and of course he's
- 2:06Speaker 4: been on the show in the past, but when we
- 2:07Speaker 4: first talked to him, he had just taken the role
- 2:10Speaker 4: and was just kind of, you know, getting his feet wet.
- 2:12Speaker 4: A matter of fact, I don't think he had even
- 2:14Speaker 4: walked through the door of the office yet. I think
- 2:15Speaker 4: he was just hired. So now that he's you know,
- 2:18Speaker 4: he's been in the position for a while, a couple
- 2:20Speaker 4: of months or so, we're getting ready for a big
- 2:22Speaker 4: festivall here in Charles. We'll talk to Zach Carrold about that. Plus,

- 2:34Speaker 4: couple of weeks ago about the reopening of former Charleston
- 2:39Speaker 4: mayor Sheriff House, the Delegates, member actor all the things.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Danny Jones, he's going to reopen his restaurant on Courier
- 2:46Speaker 4: Street in Charleston, and the gentleman who's going to be
- 2:49Speaker 4: taking over, and now let me just state this and
- 2:52Speaker 4: we'll let him talk about it in detail. Danny is
- 2:54Speaker 4: still going to be a big part of the restaurant,
- 2:56Speaker 4: but there's a new guy that it's going to be
- 2:58Speaker 4: taking it over. And he joins this small the Jerick
- 3:00Speaker 4: Construction studios. His name is Ben Noel and he goes
- 3:03Speaker 4: by Bjay and he's here with us now, Ben Bjay,
- 3:07Speaker 4: Benjamin you you over there? How you doing, man, Welcome
- 3:10Speaker 4: to the show.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Great to be here, Dave, how are you today?
- 3:12Speaker 4: So you're rocking the Kansas City Chiefs shirt.
- 3:15Speaker 5: So that strike one Andy Reid fans?
- 3:16Speaker 4: Stract Well, okay, all right. I like Andy Reid's Okay,
- 3:20Speaker 4: I like the rest of them. And Andy is a
- 3:23Speaker 4: pretty cool coach.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Course our tight ends getting married.
- 3:25Speaker 4: I don't know if you've heard, really really they got
- 3:28Speaker 4: They should really put that out there more often. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 4: they really should. But appreciate you being here.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Now.
- 3:34Speaker 4: We'll mention that Danny had planned to be here with
- 3:36Speaker 4: us today, but Danny's got a minor medical procedure, a
- 3:40Speaker 4: dental procedure going on right now. He's fine, he's going
- 3:43Speaker 4: to be there for I guess opening day is tomorrow,
- 3:45Speaker 4: rask tomorrow. It is tomorrow, all right. So I want
- 3:47Speaker 4: to before we get into talking about the restaurant and
- 3:50Speaker 4: how you bringing this thing back, we'll talk about you now.
- 3:53Speaker 4: You've been in the restaurant business for a while, right
- 3:55Speaker 4: about four years now, Okay, and tell us about your
- 3:58Speaker 4: other ventures.
- 3:59Speaker 5: So I lived and worked in the valley, Kanaw Valley
- 4:02Speaker 5: for twelve years. I was going back home in seventeen
- 4:05Speaker 5: and there was a place in Kanas City that I
- 4:09Speaker 5: grew up a little south of Beckley Poker Daniel's area,
- 4:12Speaker 5: Plade Springs. Gotcha. Yeah, yeah, So I was going back
- 4:14Speaker 5: home and you know, underserved area. Eminem Mark in Kanas
- 4:19Speaker 5: City was an inspiration for us. We wanted to slice
- 4:22Speaker 5: meat fresh and sell it by the pounds, so we
- 4:24Speaker 5: started that way, but over time it just kind of
- 4:27Speaker 5: organically went into the hot sandwiches. So we have become
- 4:30Speaker 5: merchants Deli Grill, and we're opening Beaver right now. We're
- 4:33Speaker 5: down there in the Kroger shopping Plaza, been open and
- 4:36Speaker 5: going on four years in December. But it's been wonderful.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Met a lot of nice people, and you know, I
- 4:45Speaker 5: would talk to Danny along the way. I met Danny
- 4:47Speaker 5: when I was up here. Can I tell you a
- 4:49Speaker 5: quick story, Yeah, you do whatever you want. And I
- 4:52Speaker 5: was here. I broke my foot one summer, so I
- 4:54Speaker 5: go over to Saint Francis to get wrapped up and
- 4:56Speaker 5: everything and put me on crutches and all I could
- 4:58Speaker 5: think about was getting to the mall, on getting my coffee,
- 5:01Speaker 5: my Starbucks. So, you know, I get my cab from
- 5:03Speaker 5: Saint Francis to the mall, I get the Starbucks, I
- 5:06Speaker 5: get my coffee, and I realize I'm on crutches and
- 5:08Speaker 5: I'm holding this cup, and I'm like, man, you should
- 5:10Speaker 5: have thought this through. And I look up and there's
- 5:12Speaker 5: Danny and he said, can I help you? Can I
- 5:15Speaker 5: help you? And that was the most sincere and I said, yeah, man,
- 5:18Speaker 5: I'm just trying to get to the other end of
- 5:20Speaker 5: the mall. I got my taxi waiting on me. He said,
- 5:22Speaker 5: no problem, I'll walk you down there. So he walked
- 5:24Speaker 5: me from it. And what time frame what was this?
- 5:26Speaker 5: This was probably ten eleven, okay, so he was Yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 5: he was still pinstripe suit and his all his glory.
- 5:33Speaker 5: I'd seen him on TV a few times, and you know,
- 5:34Speaker 5: I'd passed him in the mall, but just what a
- 5:36Speaker 5: nice guy did not have to do that. So he
- 5:38Speaker 5: walks me to the tidewater end of the mall and
- 5:40Speaker 5: and help me get in the cab. And then the
- 5:42Speaker 5: driver's like, is that Danny Jones. I'm like, yeah, man,
- 5:44Speaker 5: so you know I would I would, Like I said,
- 5:46Speaker 5: I lived like Bradford and Boulevard, so it was like
- 5:49Speaker 5: three four o'clocks in the mall. I would go get
- 5:51Speaker 5: my coffee in the mornings and he would be down
- 5:53Speaker 5: there with some of the guys, and I would joke around,
- 5:55Speaker 5: say he would be down there holding for and you
- 5:58Speaker 5: know I would. I would set with those some mornings,
- 6:00Speaker 5: and like I said, we became friends. I ended up
- 6:03Speaker 5: moving back home and we would keep up. You know,
- 6:04Speaker 5: I follow him on Facebook and stuff, but I think
- 6:08Speaker 5: I texted him a month or so ago, and and
- 6:10Speaker 5: you know, he used to say, I'm gonna come down
- 6:12Speaker 5: there and show you guys how to make barbecue. And
- 6:13Speaker 5: I joked around, said, man, when are you going to
- 6:15Speaker 5: show us barbecue? He said, why don't you come up here?
- 6:18Speaker 5: And you know I wasn't doing anything that weekend, so
- 6:21Speaker 5: we we we set it up for a Sunday morning,
- 6:23Speaker 5: and you know, I wanted to come up here and
- 6:24Speaker 5: just see him. It's been a while. And man, I
- 6:27Speaker 5: walked through the door and he said this could be yours.
- 6:31Speaker 5: H So you know, didn't anticipate that, but you know,
- 6:34Speaker 5: we kept having conversations and it's led up to this point.
- 6:39Speaker 5: It's it's you know, it's a great business. Like if
- 6:41Speaker 5: you look at the reviews and the Facebook stuff, there
- 6:44Speaker 5: was great fanfare, great product. You know, the business has
- 6:49Speaker 5: a soul, it has a personality. It's him, right, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 5: you go in, you see all that stuff on the wall,
- 6:53Speaker 5: the lives he's lived.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I told this story the last time we had Danny
- 6:57Speaker 4: on the show. And I was down there having lunch,
- 7:00Speaker 4: and there were some people that were just passing through
- 7:03Speaker 4: the area and had gone on one of the Yelper,
- 7:07Speaker 4: Google reviews or whatever, and they had they discovered Danny's
- 7:12Speaker 4: and so they came down to the barbecue stand on Courrier.
- 7:17Speaker 4: They had no idea who Danny Jones was. And they
- 7:20Speaker 4: see this guy back there, you know, as you said,
- 7:23Speaker 4: holding court even when he's you know, he's behind the register.
- 7:26Speaker 4: He didn't carry that worked with him. And and he's
- 7:29Speaker 4: back there and it's a room full of people, people
- 7:31Speaker 4: waiting for a place to sit, and they just started
- 7:33Speaker 4: looking at it, all the history and all the pictures
- 7:36Speaker 4: that Danny has in his place down there. And of
- 7:38Speaker 4: course these people don't have any ties to West Virginia.
- 7:40Speaker 4: They don't they don't know this was what this street
- 7:42Speaker 4: used to look like in eighteen fifty seven or whatever.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Danny's got hanging up down there, and they were they
- 7:47Speaker 4: were fascinated by the whole thing. And they didn't even
- 7:49Speaker 4: have any ties to this area. And that's the allure
- 7:52Speaker 4: of a place like that. I think a.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Couple of guys tried the door yesterday and yeah, I
- 7:56Speaker 5: went out and spoke to him there from down near Blacksburg,
- 7:58Speaker 5: and I think they were on their way to Ohio
- 8:00Speaker 5: to do I think he said bow hunting or something, right,
- 8:03Speaker 5: you know, this was their annual trip, and they stopped
- 8:05Speaker 5: by to see Dandy and get some good barbecue. And
- 8:07Speaker 5: you know, I'll let them know they were a day early,
- 8:09Speaker 5: but hopefully maybe we'll catch them on the way, grab
- 8:11Speaker 5: a hotel room we come back tomorrow. That's exactly how
- 8:13Speaker 5: it works. So you know the old way was, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 5: Now people will pass through town and they'll look at
- 8:21Speaker 5: you know, Apple Maps or Google Maps or you know,
- 8:23Speaker 5: and they'll look for something unique to the area. And
- 8:25Speaker 5: then you know, if the reviews are strong, and then
- 8:27Speaker 5: you know, it tells a little bit of story and
- 8:29Speaker 5: they'll want to stop by. They'll want something unique to
- 8:31Speaker 5: the area, and hopefully we'll get some more of that
- 8:33Speaker 5: in the future. Really just now concentrating on the operation.
- 8:38Speaker 5: We're running the same exact play that he used to,
- 8:40Speaker 5: same recipes, same stuff on the wall.
- 8:43Speaker 4: How difficult was it to learn how to make barbecue
- 8:46Speaker 4: as Danny does? Because Danny tells the story about how
- 8:50Speaker 4: he learned it, and whenever he tells the story, and
- 8:53Speaker 4: God bless Danny, I have to kind of keep my
- 8:55Speaker 4: finger on the button over here. He's not going to
- 8:57Speaker 4: say something he shouldn't say because it's as Danny Jones
- 9:00Speaker 4: we're talking about. But he's told the story man about
- 9:03Speaker 4: how the people that taught him how to do barbecue.
- 9:05Speaker 4: How difficult was it for you to learn his process?
- 9:09Speaker 5: He's made it very easy and very digestible. It's, uh,
- 9:12Speaker 5: you know, I'm still in that learning process right now.
- 9:15Speaker 5: He's uh describes himself as the consigliarity. He's our advisor
- 9:20Speaker 5: of this organization, so you know he's there. Uh, he's
- 9:22Speaker 5: leading the charge. We're just trying to absorb everything. You know.
- 9:26Speaker 5: The neat thing is as you're learning, he'll he'll just
- 9:29Speaker 5: start talking about something or just start telling a story
- 9:32Speaker 5: or maybe give you a little little piece of the
- 9:34Speaker 5: book you know that's coming out. But it's it's been easy.
- 9:36Speaker 5: It's it's uh, it's a lot different from what we've
- 9:39Speaker 5: we've been doing, but at the same time, it's a
- 9:41Speaker 5: it's a simple process, you know, and we're just trying
- 9:44Speaker 5: to kind of stay consistent and make sure that no
- 9:47Speaker 5: matter what time you come in there, you still get
- 9:49Speaker 5: that same.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Man and you are going to offer the same menu. Correct,
- 9:52Speaker 4: as you said, are there any changes at all? So,
- 9:55Speaker 4: and the thing about Danny's was it it was a
- 9:57Speaker 4: simple menu. I mean, it wasn't loader forward. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 4: you had the barbecue, and you had the chicken. The
- 10:03Speaker 4: sides were always good. Occasionally he would do a soup,
- 10:07Speaker 4: not every day. He would do some salads. I don't
- 10:08Speaker 4: know whether he's gonna do salad. You guy's gonna do salads? Yes, yes, okay,
- 10:11Speaker 4: God he was kind of Danny's not a big salad
- 10:14Speaker 4: fan because of the time it takes to to prep it.
- 10:18Speaker 4: But he would put the smoke chicken on it. And
- 10:20Speaker 4: that's what I mean. And that's pretty much other than
- 10:22Speaker 4: a bag of chips in a soda, that's pretty much
- 10:24Speaker 4: the entire menu. Right, Well, did I leave anything out?
- 10:27Speaker 5: You've nailed it. Pulled pork is outstanding, and the ribs
- 10:30Speaker 5: of course correct. So we'll we'll we'll start with that.
- 10:34Speaker 5: And like I said, we're in a we're at a
- 10:35Speaker 5: point now where we just want to make sure that
- 10:37Speaker 5: we absorb everything and we can we can do this
- 10:39Speaker 5: every day consistently, and you know, we'll treat people great. Uh,
- 10:43Speaker 5: you'll be able to come in and spend some time
- 10:45Speaker 5: with him and get some of this really good barbecue.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And and and Danny is going to he's playing on
- 10:50Speaker 4: being there.
- 10:51Speaker 5: He's going to be there. He's going to be there.
- 10:53Speaker 4: He drifts in and out from Timetown, but primarily and
- 10:55Speaker 4: I could use a busy guy still. Well yeah, and
- 10:58Speaker 4: I think, uh, I think you are going to see that.
- 11:00Speaker 4: The Danny is going to be a part of this.
- 11:02Speaker 4: And the thing that I always thought was interesting about
- 11:06Speaker 4: going down there for lunch was that if they weren't
- 11:09Speaker 4: terribly busy, Danny would come from behind the counter and
- 11:12Speaker 4: he would he would sit down there, you know, with
- 11:14Speaker 4: and then a customer would come in and Danny, Danny
- 11:17Speaker 4: would just be I gotta go wait on somebody. I
- 11:19Speaker 4: hold that thought and he would go back turn this.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Maybe this is give him a little bit more time
- 11:23Speaker 4: to to to fellowship with the with with his people.
- 11:26Speaker 5: He can't help himself, he can't help it. He works
- 11:28Speaker 5: wherever he's that he works. That's going.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Yeah. Today Island Showing five eighty Live is brought to

- 11:55Speaker 5: We're going to start Monday through Friday eleven to six thirty,
- 11:58Speaker 5: which I think is a little later than what what
- 12:00Speaker 5: they originally did, but we're gonna we're gonna start Monday
- 12:03Speaker 5: through Friday. As we get used to the flow of everything.
- 12:07Speaker 5: My goal was to get those weekends open because you
- 12:09Speaker 5: know ribs and football. Yeah yeah, but.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Now you still have your place in backley correct.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Yes, So I have a wonderful partner, Brian Merchant. And
- 12:18Speaker 5: then my son also works there, Derek Drafting. So he's
- 12:21Speaker 5: grabbing a bigger chunk of the responsibilities. Uh, and they're
- 12:25Speaker 5: gonna hold that down. I'm going to get this started.
- 12:28Speaker 5: We actually have one of our best associates from down
- 12:31Speaker 5: there is going to join me up here, a guy
- 12:33Speaker 5: named Christian Brown. They call him TC Texas Christ Okay,
- 12:37Speaker 5: guys from Austin, Texas. Okay, you know so I can't
- 12:39Speaker 5: wait for you.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Guys know a little something about Bart a little bit,
- 12:42Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 12:42Speaker 5: So like I said, we're going to come up here,
- 12:44Speaker 5: We're going to learn Danny's uh, Danny's way, and we're
- 12:47Speaker 5: going to run that play. Wouldn't have it any other.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Now, are you prepared for and I know you've already
- 12:51Speaker 4: been down there quote unquote training? Okay, so are you
- 12:54Speaker 4: prepared for Danny look at you and say that's not right,
- 12:57Speaker 4: go back and do it already because you know.
- 12:59Speaker 5: He will and then wrong. I love I love his directness,
- 13:03Speaker 5: you know, because I know where it's coming from. He's
- 13:04Speaker 5: nothing if not direct. I'll say that about it. Just
- 13:06Speaker 5: tell me what I need to know.
- 13:07Speaker 4: And he'll tell you.
- 13:08Speaker 5: We'll go from there.
- 13:09Speaker 4: He'll tell you for sure. Now I was looking last night.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I know he was. Danny's quite active on social media
- 13:14Speaker 4: and there and there. There hadn't been anything on the
- 13:16Speaker 4: Danny's Barbecue Stand page since he closed, and we of
- 13:19Speaker 4: course broadcast live you know, the day that he could
- 13:21Speaker 4: close down there had to quite a tribute, quite a
- 13:24Speaker 4: picture the walls of the We had a great time
- 13:27Speaker 4: down there. So are you going to continue to have
- 13:30Speaker 4: the social media presents?
- 13:31Speaker 5: That's the goal. That's a big pin of it, just
- 13:33Speaker 5: to just stay in the front of everyone's mind. But yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 5: that's something that we hope to get back.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And all right, I got a text here for you. Okay,
- 13:40Speaker 4: any plans for football tailgate meal menus or watch.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Parties near future? Near future watch parties might be a
- 13:46Speaker 5: little difficult. It's not a lot a lot of room.
- 13:49Speaker 4: To watch and look, you know what the again and
- 13:51Speaker 4: for those of you that never went to Danny's, I
- 13:53Speaker 4: mean it's it's it's very small.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Stand for a reason.
- 13:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was called a standard different from the house.
- 14:00Speaker 4: And what I would find is is if you would
- 14:02Speaker 4: go in and maybe you just go in by yourself.
- 14:05Speaker 4: People would just say, hey, would you like to sit
- 14:07Speaker 4: with me? I saw a lot of conversations, and I
- 14:10Speaker 4: saw a lot of discussions, political discussions that we can
- 14:14Speaker 4: still have discussions. By the way, I never saw any
- 14:15Speaker 4: of them get out of hand with people that would
- 14:19Speaker 4: just because it kind of it kind of forces closeness. Okay,
- 14:22Speaker 4: you know, if there's only one seed available and we've
- 14:24Speaker 4: got an extra seat, that okay, we don't know you,
- 14:26Speaker 4: but come over and say with us. I saw a
- 14:28Speaker 4: lot of that.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Like the old days. Yeah, you know, you get to
- 14:31Speaker 5: know people, and.
- 14:32Speaker 4: And the sides. I mentioned the sides, and I was
- 14:34Speaker 4: a big fan of the sides. I was your favorite
- 14:36Speaker 4: of the potato salad?
- 14:37Speaker 5: Really?
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:38Speaker 4: I like the beans, Yeah, the beans were good. The
- 14:42Speaker 4: only knock and Danny and I had a disagreement about
- 14:44Speaker 4: this one time. The only knock I had on is
- 14:46Speaker 4: I'm a spicy guy, and Danny I would get here,
- 14:50Speaker 4: which kept I think was Frank's red hot was what
- 14:52Speaker 4: was the sauce he had?
- 14:53Speaker 5: I think?
- 14:53Speaker 4: And when I would order the barbecue or the baked beans,
- 14:57Speaker 4: he would see me take that and put it on it,
- 14:59Speaker 4: and he would just.
- 15:00Speaker 5: When you make that face he just shake his head.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's like I said, sorry, man, every everything, nearly, if
- 15:05Speaker 4: other than cereal, nearly everything I eat is spicy. I've
- 15:08Speaker 4: always done that way. My dad was that way. I
- 15:10Speaker 4: like spice, and so I'm gonna put Sorry, Danny, I'm
- 15:13Speaker 4: gonna put to I'm gonna put a little little hot
- 15:15Speaker 4: sauce on it. Not because I just like a little kick.
- 15:17Speaker 5: But that just I don't normally go past like Texas peak.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Frank you now, maybe well maybe a little higher. But
- 15:24Speaker 4: I'm not a I'm not a Carolina reap.
- 15:26Speaker 5: You still want to enjoy your line, I don't.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I don't want to die in the process. I like
- 15:30Speaker 4: some spice, all right, So you're gonna open tomorrow and
- 15:33Speaker 4: everything's good to go tomorrow, you think, I believe so,
- 15:35Speaker 4: and you'll be down there today is still whipping the
- 15:37Speaker 4: stuff up. How much prep goes into that ahead of
- 15:40Speaker 4: time that you don't people don't see because that this
- 15:43Speaker 4: kind of stuff is you know, it does take a
- 15:45Speaker 4: little I mean, everything's made fresh, but there is a
- 15:47Speaker 4: certain amount of we got to get this ready to
- 15:49Speaker 4: go for tomorrow.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Good amount, and in my opinion, it's the most important
- 15:53Speaker 5: part of the whole operation, right, But yeah, a little bit,
- 15:56Speaker 5: not not too bad. Uh, A lot of that stuff
- 15:59Speaker 5: can he done morning of Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 16:02Speaker 5: So you want to try to keep that balance of
- 16:04Speaker 5: peak freshness, but at the same time have it ready
- 16:07Speaker 5: for you know, potential rush. But a lot of that.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Are you prepared for tomorrow? Because I mean, we've been
- 16:11Speaker 4: talking about this for about.
- 16:12Speaker 5: A month, so I to hold onto my seat.
- 16:14Speaker 8: I think.
- 16:14Speaker 4: I think the Food Guide, you know, did a piece
- 16:16Speaker 4: in the gazette about it too. So there's gonna be
- 16:18Speaker 4: a lot of people down We're mighty do you need help?
- 16:20Speaker 4: As far as you are you hiring people down there,
- 16:22Speaker 4: You've got you get your staff.
- 16:24Speaker 5: As of now, I think I'm good. I feel like
- 16:26Speaker 5: in the next few weeks that's gonna that's going to
- 16:30Speaker 5: be a need. So you know, if anybody may be interested,
- 16:33Speaker 5: stop buying meet us. We'd be happy to meet you
- 16:35Speaker 5: and take it from there.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And the place when it comes in is going to
- 16:38Speaker 4: look exactly the same. The picture's still on the wall
- 16:40Speaker 4: and everything right.
- 16:41Speaker 5: I wouldn't have it any other way.
- 16:42Speaker 4: All right, Well, here's another text. Will you take menu
- 16:46Speaker 4: item suggestions for the future?
- 16:47Speaker 5: Always?

- 17:01Speaker 4: there and say, can you send delivery boy Danny up
- 17:03Speaker 4: here to bring me some lunch.
- 17:04Speaker 5: I would bring it myself. We're there till six thirty,
- 17:09Speaker 5: so you know a little later then, okay, previously, and
- 17:11Speaker 5: I should make it a little easier.
- 17:12Speaker 4: My wife and I were having this discussion last night
- 17:14Speaker 4: because I used to get things. I live in Putnam

- 17:20Speaker 4: still a week. I'll be when I get off the
- 17:22Speaker 4: air here in the afternoon. I get out of here
- 17:24Speaker 4: about four, so I said, I can see me picking

- 20:33Speaker 4: Are you hungry now that we talked about Danny's barbecue
- 20:35Speaker 4: stash show, peanut butter toast a head for breakfast not
- 20:38Speaker 4: holding me over too. Well, Well, that protein drink that
- 20:41Speaker 4: I slam every morning before I come down here just
- 20:43Speaker 4: today kind of pales in comparison. And I told Bja
- 20:46Speaker 4: when I was talking to him, I said, I'm not
- 20:47Speaker 4: gonna be able to come down tomorrow because I've got
- 20:50Speaker 4: an event I have to MC out of town. So
- 20:52Speaker 4: I'm going to be jetting tomorrow the head out of town.
- 20:55Speaker 4: But I'll be back, you know, late tomorrow night. But
- 20:58Speaker 4: I plan on being there on Friday. I won't be
- 21:00Speaker 4: their opening day, but I will be there on Friday.
- 21:02Speaker 12: So I think I will be too.
- 21:05Speaker 4: So this is the first time we've had you in
- 21:07Speaker 4: the studio. We had you on when you first took
- 21:09Speaker 4: the job. Now you're ready to rock and roll, man,
- 21:11Speaker 4: you're ready to go.
- 21:11Speaker 12: Yeah, it's been a busy first couple of weeks on
- 21:13Speaker 12: the job where we've got our schedule locked down for
- 21:16Speaker 12: our fall event and we're ready to go.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Explain the concept of Festive Fall for people that don't
- 21:22Speaker 4: know them well.
- 21:23Speaker 12: Fest of All started as a summertime event arts, dance, music, culture,
- 21:29Speaker 12: and it was just it was such a success that
- 21:31Speaker 12: the organization eventually decided to st start an autumn event
- 21:35Speaker 12: as well, and that has just grown over the years.
- 21:39Speaker 11: I mean it's and it's you know.
- 21:41Speaker 12: As as with anything back in the early days, it's
- 21:43Speaker 12: probably ten plus years ago. Started pretty small, but now
- 21:45Speaker 12: we're firing on all cylinders, have a lot of great
- 21:48Speaker 12: stuff on offer.
- 21:49Speaker 4: All right, well, let's run it all down. I'll let you.
- 21:51Speaker 4: You've got the schedule, so I'll let you just take
- 21:54Speaker 4: it from here and tell Yeah. So the wats and
- 21:55Speaker 4: the winds and the times and whatnot.
- 21:57Speaker 12: Well, so Festive Fall start arts on October eighth and
- 22:01Speaker 12: runs until the twelfth. I'll hit the high spots because
- 22:04Speaker 12: we got so much stuff going on. If people want
- 22:06Speaker 12: to see the full schedule, they can go to Festival
- 22:08Speaker 12: that's Festival with two l's Festival Charleston dot com. But
- 22:14Speaker 12: we're gonna kick things off with a full moon drum
- 22:18Speaker 12: circle on what we're calling Festifall Eve on Tuesday, October
- 22:22Speaker 12: the seventh. Bring a drum and bang it under the
- 22:26Speaker 12: full moon. We get going in ernest though, the next night,
- 22:29Speaker 12: on Wednesday, October the eighth, with Jeff Shirley's Three Things
- 22:34Speaker 12: the show. This time he's gonna have Bob Thompson, the
- 22:37Speaker 12: pianist for Mountain Stage, the Clay Centers astrophysicist Shannon Silverman.
- 22:43Speaker 11: Did you know the Clay Center had an astrophysicist?
- 22:45Speaker 4: Actually I did, Oh you did, Okay, but I I've
- 22:49Speaker 4: never met the person, but actually yeah, I did.
- 22:51Speaker 12: And community organizer Mavery Davis. They're going to be his
- 22:55Speaker 12: guests on that show and talking about where they got started.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Well, and I'll tell you them and just jump in
- 23:00Speaker 4: on thus three things if you've never If you've never
- 23:02Speaker 4: seen it, Jeff surely had me do it. I guess
- 23:05Speaker 4: about a year or so ago. And it's really fascinating
- 23:08Speaker 4: to learn people's stories. And I was I was vaguely
- 23:11Speaker 4: familiar with the concept. I had never attended one, though,
- 23:14Speaker 4: I just knew people that had done it, and it
- 23:16Speaker 4: was it was great. You know, they ask you about
- 23:18Speaker 4: your I mean, at least they did with us. It
- 23:20Speaker 4: was like your first your favorites and what was the
- 23:22Speaker 4: future first favorite in future and and it's difficult, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 4: sometimes believe it or not. And you always get these
- 23:31Speaker 4: type a personalities like a Bob Thompson and any of
- 23:33Speaker 4: the others that you mentioned, but sometimes it's difficult to
- 23:35Speaker 4: talk about yourself. Oh yeah, And as somebody who spends
- 23:38Speaker 4: now four hours or more a day of talking. I
- 23:42Speaker 4: had to really think about, you know, because I wanted
- 23:44Speaker 4: to choose my words wisely when I did that.
- 23:46Speaker 12: What's really interesting is how people interpret that too. Yeah, first,
- 23:49Speaker 12: your favorite, your future, every speaker. And you know, something
- 23:53Speaker 12: I really appreciate about three things is there's no archive.
- 23:59Speaker 12: You can't go on the internet and listen to the
- 24:01Speaker 12: past episodes. It's a moment and Jeff very much wants
- 24:04Speaker 12: to make it. If you weren't there, you missed, you
- 24:06Speaker 12: missed it. And it's such a way to learn the stories.
- 24:10Speaker 12: I mean, you just learned so much about these figures
- 24:13Speaker 12: in town that you think you know, and you just
- 24:17Speaker 12: get an inside look into folks that that you don't
- 24:19Speaker 12: otherwise get a chance. And yeah, I'm sure it is
- 24:21Speaker 12: really strange to be that person opening up, but it's
- 24:25Speaker 12: for the audience.
- 24:26Speaker 11: It's a really great experience.
- 24:27Speaker 12: So that's a Wednesday night at seven pm. Thursday, we
- 24:32Speaker 12: have an evening with the West Virginia Dance Company at
- 24:35Speaker 12: the Culture Center Theater that starts at seven point thirty
- 24:38Speaker 12: on Friday. The big ticket event that night is Magnolia Boulevard.
- 24:45Speaker 12: They're a band from Kentucky. They play this mix of
- 24:48Speaker 12: like Southern rock, Del Delta blues, Mayrkana. So if you
- 24:52Speaker 12: like the Tudashi Trucks band.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Or like, yeah, that's my music.
- 24:57Speaker 12: Right three concert, Yeah that's my City Center start at
- 25:00Speaker 12: seven point thirty. We also have that night on October
- 25:04Speaker 12: tenth and evening with the poets. The state poet Lauriate
- 25:08Speaker 12: Mark Harshman's going to be over at Taylor Books with
- 25:10Speaker 12: the poet Jesse Graves and some others. Saturday kicks off
- 25:15Speaker 12: probably the most popular event for festival, which is the
- 25:19Speaker 12: Harvest Art Fair that happens at the Capital Market. And
- 25:23Speaker 12: we've got loads of vendors over there, artisans selling their wares.
- 25:27Speaker 12: We've also got live entertainment over there, kids' activities that'll
- 25:30Speaker 12: run from ten am to six pm on Saturday and
- 25:33Speaker 12: then twelve to five pm on Sunday over at the
- 25:36Speaker 12: Capital Market. On Saturday, I'm really excited for this. Actually,
- 25:40Speaker 12: we have both a walking and a bike tour downtown.
- 25:44Speaker 12: They meet at the Lee Street Triangle there just to
- 25:48Speaker 12: check out some public art, some architecture around Charleston. It's funny,
- 25:52Speaker 12: I've lived here just about all my life and you
- 25:54Speaker 12: take a tour like that and you're like, how have
- 25:57Speaker 12: I never noticed this time?
- 26:00Speaker 11: Yep.
- 26:01Speaker 12: And then that night City Center Dead, which is a
- 26:04Speaker 12: Grateful Dead tribute show happening at City Center at six
- 26:08Speaker 12: pm with John Ingram's band Dead Center.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And I got to tell you, I was listening to
- 26:12Speaker 4: Hotline yesterday and they had John Ingram and Larry Gross
- 26:16Speaker 4: on talking about that. Yesterday afternoon. I was driving as
- 26:19Speaker 4: I was driving home, as I was one of the
- 26:21Speaker 4: people that was stuck in traffic because of that vehicle
- 26:23Speaker 4: fire on I sixty four. I had a lot of
- 26:25Speaker 4: time on my hands yesterday, but but I listened to
- 26:27Speaker 4: to John Ingram and Larry Gross on Hotline with Weekly
- 26:30Speaker 4: and Coop yesterday talking about this particular event. And you know,
- 26:34Speaker 4: I'm I'm not a huge Grateful Dead fan. I'm kind
- 26:38Speaker 4: of a casual fan.
- 26:39Speaker 12: I think there's about two albums I know.
- 26:41Speaker 4: That I know the big ones, But you know, you
- 26:43Speaker 4: got me excited to listen to of course, anything you
- 26:45Speaker 4: know that that you have when you have John Ingram
- 26:48Speaker 4: and Larry do you have all those guys together, very talentul.
- 26:51Speaker 12: Larry of course founded best of all back in Theday
- 26:54Speaker 12: John's on our board. I asked John if he needed
- 26:56Speaker 12: a mandolin player for co.
- 26:59Speaker 11: End of the day.
- 27:01Speaker 12: I think you might cut me in. So moving on
- 27:04Speaker 12: to Sunday then, as I said, we had the Harvest
- 27:07Speaker 12: Art Fair from twelve to five pm. Over at the
- 27:10Speaker 12: Carriage Trail. We have our Carriage Trail leaf Walk. There's
- 27:13Speaker 12: going to be live performances there, activities for the kids.
- 27:16Speaker 12: That's always really nice. People like to get out and
- 27:18Speaker 12: enjoy the fall foliage. There is a living history display
- 27:25Speaker 12: up at spring Hill Cemetery from one to four that
- 27:27Speaker 12: day as well, where you have reenactors portraying notable Charlestonians
- 27:34Speaker 12: who are buried up there.
- 27:35Speaker 11: That's pretty cool.
- 27:36Speaker 12: And they're we're going to end it with Mountain Stage
- 27:39Speaker 12: at seven pm. And that Mountain Stage performance is going
- 27:42Speaker 12: to be a good one, of course. David Mayfield demand
- 27:49Speaker 12: of forgiveness.
- 27:50Speaker 4: I'm just so.
- 27:51Speaker 12: I'm excited about East Nash Grass.
- 27:53Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm a bluegrass fan.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Yeah, there's there's gonna be a lot of good stuff.
- 27:56Speaker 4: He Now, if you didn't catch all that, as I said,
- 27:58Speaker 4: I completely understand. And we're playing on having you back
- 28:00Speaker 4: on as we get closer, you know, maybe the day
- 28:03Speaker 4: or so before, maybe not day of maybe they or
- 28:05Speaker 4: so before some people can make their plans. Give us
- 28:07Speaker 4: that website social mediums.
- 28:09Speaker 12: Of all the festival too, els Festival Charleston dot com
- 28:13Speaker 12: and also all of these events are on our Facebook
- 28:16Speaker 12: page as well.
- 28:17Speaker 11: Facebook.
- 28:17Speaker 4: And and this is really, as you said, by this
- 28:20Speaker 4: time of year, everybody's already rushing into pumpkin spice weather
- 28:24Speaker 4: right now. Okay, well it's in the mid eighties here
- 28:25Speaker 4: in Charleston today. Fall doesn't officially start this year until
- 28:30Speaker 4: September to the twenty second, so by this time we
- 28:33Speaker 4: we might be in the fall. We'll just have to
- 28:35Speaker 4: kind of wait and see. But regardless, that's you'll see
- 28:37Speaker 4: the pumpkin decorations and all the stuff out there. So
- 28:40Speaker 4: it'd be a good time.
- 28:41Speaker 12: I would saying yesterday that you know, West Virginia's beautiful
- 28:43Speaker 12: in all seasons, but I really think autumn is when
- 28:46Speaker 12: she shines. And I was going to say festival is
- 28:48Speaker 12: icing on the cake, but it's really the whipped cream
- 28:50Speaker 12: on the pumpkins spice Lottel.
- 28:51Speaker 4: There you go, There you go. Percent I tell you,
- 28:56Speaker 4: you know, I am I'm really excited about this, and
- 28:58Speaker 4: I'm really excited about and this thing has been great
- 29:01Speaker 4: from day one. But I'm really excited about the energy
- 29:04Speaker 4: that you're bringing to this because I had you on
- 29:06Speaker 4: the show, and again I was telling them, folks earlier,
- 29:08Speaker 4: I think you had just maybe been higher, like a
- 29:11Speaker 4: day or so, it was the day before and yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 4: and so you really hadn't gotten in there yet. You
- 29:17Speaker 4: didn't know where the restrooms were, in the paper towels
- 29:19Speaker 4: were captas. Yeah, but now you've gotten into and so
- 29:21Speaker 4: much work. You talked about your board earlier, Zach, So
- 29:25Speaker 4: much work goes into this.
- 29:26Speaker 11: Oh my goodness.
- 29:27Speaker 12: We have such an incredible group of people. I'm just
- 29:31Speaker 12: the executive director, and we have a marketing coordinator who's
- 29:35Speaker 12: fantastically talented. We have a dedicated board, and it's not
- 29:38Speaker 12: just people who like to get together once a month
- 29:40Speaker 12: and sent in a meeting, like working every day to
- 29:42Speaker 12: try to raise money and develop programming and make sure
- 29:45Speaker 12: this organization continues into the next generation here in Charleston.
- 29:50Speaker 12: Because you just think about all the things that festival
- 29:53Speaker 12: has brought to this town over the last twenty years.
- 29:57Speaker 12: It's hard to believe it's been twenty years. But like
- 30:00Speaker 12: things that I've seen in Charleston that like Shakespeare plays
- 30:04Speaker 12: and musical performances and dance performances and art installations. It's
- 30:08Speaker 12: just a little town like Charleston, West Virginia. You know,
- 30:11Speaker 12: I'm been a fan of art since since I was
- 30:15Speaker 12: a little kid. And you think about like Paris in
- 30:18Speaker 12: the twenties with hemingwy Fitzgerald, and you think about like
- 30:21Speaker 12: New York in the eighties with the art scene there.
- 30:23Speaker 12: They all had the same thing in common. There was
- 30:26Speaker 12: it was cheap cost of living, a passionate group of
- 30:28Speaker 12: creative people and people who are willing to support that creativity.
- 30:31Speaker 11: Charleston has that.
- 30:33Speaker 12: Like we are right for the one of those kind
- 30:36Speaker 12: of movements. I firmly believe that we just got to
- 30:38Speaker 12: let people know about it.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Yeah, you're doing a great job, man, and I think
- 30:42Speaker 4: you and your board, I think you guys are going
- 30:44Speaker 4: to turn this thing out and it's going to be
- 30:45Speaker 4: her way to texture somebody. So we should have called
- 30:47Speaker 4: it festival. That is what it's called. It's just when
- 30:50Speaker 4: we're on the radio, it doesn't translate that. Well, it's festive.
- 30:53Speaker 4: The entire thing's fest of all, but this particular event
- 30:56Speaker 4: is first.
- 30:57Speaker 12: To fall well What's funny is I was working the
- 31:00Speaker 12: Charleston Daily Mail when this event, the Fall event happened,
- 31:03Speaker 12: and it originally was called Festival Fall, and I remember
- 31:08Speaker 12: sitting in the newsroom and we were all going, why
- 31:10Speaker 12: didn't they just call it Festivall And then like, I
- 31:12Speaker 12: think the next year, I think that organizing I didn't
- 31:15Speaker 12: have any input the organization at all that I think
- 31:17Speaker 12: the next year they were like, we should just call
- 31:19Speaker 12: this Festive Fall. So, yeah, that is. It's kind of
- 31:22Speaker 12: a tongue twister, but that is. That is what the
- 31:23Speaker 12: event is called Festive Fall.
- 31:25Speaker 4: And it's but the main website though is Festive All,
- 31:29Speaker 4: Festival All Festival Charleston dot com and you're all over
- 31:32Speaker 4: the social media as well as Zach. It's been a
- 31:34Speaker 4: pleasure having a show today. Man, I'm excited about this thing.
- 31:36Speaker 4: October the eighth through the twelfth and Charleston again. These
- 31:38Speaker 4: things are going to be all over town, just like
- 31:40Speaker 4: Festival is. So you need to follow the social media
- 31:43Speaker 4: the website to see specifically where each event is going
- 31:46Speaker 4: to be. But it's it's going to be four days
- 31:48Speaker 4: or so of big doings here in the.
- 31:50Speaker 12: City, five days and a lot of that stuff is walkable,
- 31:54Speaker 12: so you can do one thing at the carriage Trail
- 31:56Speaker 12: and walk down.
- 31:56Speaker 11: We're even going to have KRT shuttles.
- 31:58Speaker 12: Going from the Carriage Trail over to spring Hill Cemetery.
- 32:03Speaker 12: I mean, it's it's just completely accessible. A lot of
- 32:05Speaker 12: the stuff is free, which I love about Festival. Just
- 32:09Speaker 12: you know, it's expensive to go out and do stuff
- 32:12Speaker 12: with your family, but not when it comes to our stuff.
- 32:15Speaker 12: We're trying to give it to as many people as possible.
- 32:18Speaker 4: All right, Zach, I appreciate you being on the show.
- 32:20Speaker 4: The executive director of Festive All and Festive Fall October eighth,
- 32:25Speaker 4: twelfth in Charleston, Zach Carld appreciate it, man, and we'll
- 32:28Speaker 4: have you on again as we get closer to the event.

- 35:12Speaker 4: just one of the things that Bob Thompson. And I'm
- 35:14Speaker 4: sure the Zach didn't mean anything by that. It's I mean,
- 35:17Speaker 4: we all recognize the genius that is Bob Thompson. I
- 35:21Speaker 4: mean we have Bob Thompson on the show. I think
- 35:25Speaker 4: he's been on the show twice and maybe once on
- 35:27Speaker 4: the network show, maybe once on a local show once before.
- 35:29Speaker 4: And I'm gonna tell you, the guy just has such
- 35:32Speaker 4: a presence. And I know somebody see around Charleston all
- 35:36Speaker 4: the time. Very few people I'm kind of in awe
- 35:39Speaker 4: of when I'm around them, but Bob Thompson is one.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Maybe it's because I'm a frustrated musician that doesn't have
- 35:43Speaker 4: a lick of actual musical ability. I've tried, tried to
- 35:48Speaker 4: be a piano player, tried to be a guitar player
- 35:51Speaker 4: like my dad wasn't happening, And I'm just in awe
- 35:56Speaker 4: of people like that, so that maybe that's why I
- 35:58Speaker 4: get into radio so I can hang out with people that.
- 36:00Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, that's one of the things Bob
- 36:02Speaker 4: Thompson is known for. Uh and uh, but yeah, he's
- 36:05Speaker 4: definitely an icon and Charleston, you are one correct about that.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Coming up on tomorrow's show, can Not Candy, commission President
- 36:12Speaker 4: Ben Selango's here along with the Vice Mayor of the
- 36:15Speaker 4: City of Saint Alban's Jared Page. We got some exciting
- 36:18Speaker 4: things going on in Saint Albans that mister Page is
- 36:23Speaker 4: going to talk about. Plus Solango and I are planning
- 36:27Speaker 4: on double teaming Jared Page tomorrow because tomorrow begins the
- 36:31Speaker 4: NFL season and the favorite NFL team of may you
- 36:37Speaker 4: know that of me as the Dallas Cowboys. It's also
- 36:40Speaker 4: the favorite NFL team of Commissioner Solango. So we're gonna
- 36:44Speaker 4: take on uh, mister Page's team, the defending Super Bowl
- 36:49Speaker 4: champion in Philadelphia Eagles. All right on Thursday Night football.
- 36:54Speaker 4: And I mentioned this earlier. I'm going to be m
- 36:57Speaker 4: seeing an event tomorrow night. I'll I mean, I think
- 37:00Speaker 4: I mentioned on the air once before, but my alma mater,
- 37:04Speaker 4: Logan High School has their annual Hall of Fame game
- 37:07Speaker 4: on Friday night, and on the Thursday night before the
- 37:10Speaker 4: Friday night game, they induct people into the Hall of Fame. No,
- 37:14Speaker 4: I'm not being inducted, but I am going to serve
- 37:17Speaker 4: as an MC and so it's an event I've done
- 37:19Speaker 4: for well over ten years and they bring me back
- 37:22Speaker 4: to the hometown. Actually the event is not held in Logan.
- 37:25Speaker 4: It's held at the Logan Country Club, which oddly enough,
- 37:28Speaker 4: is in Chappinville. As soon as I get off the
- 37:31Speaker 4: air tomorrow, I'll be heading down there help and wrap
- 37:34Speaker 4: up the golf tournament, and then I'll be doing the
- 37:35Speaker 4: dinner and seeing the dinner tomorrow night. But with all
- 37:38Speaker 4: due respect to I think there's four people going in
- 37:42Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame down there this year. I am
- 37:44Speaker 4: going to make this the quickest speech ever because I
- 37:46Speaker 4: got to get back in the vehicle so I can
- 37:48Speaker 4: listen to the Cowboys game all right on my way
- 37:52Speaker 4: back home to Tady's Valley. But anyway, so yeah, we'll
- 37:55Speaker 4: have a Commissioner Selango, and the vice the vice vice
- 37:59Speaker 4: president of and I'm sure he would have liked that.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Though the Vice Mayor, Jared Page, will be on the
- 38:03Speaker 4: show more. Also, Danny Boyd is going to join us tomorrow. Danny,
- 38:08Speaker 4: of course, is a true Western treasure. He's out with
- 38:11Speaker 4: a brand new book and we're gonna talk about that
- 38:14Speaker 4: within tomorrow. Plus on tomorrows show, we're gonna have details
- 38:17Speaker 4: on this Saturday's Chilling on the Elk, Chili Cookoff, craft
- 38:21Speaker 4: beer wine events Saturday on Main Street and Clindennon. We'll
- 38:25Speaker 4: cover all that coming up on tomorrow's show, and then

- 39:46Speaker 4: Over the last couple of days, Uh, there has been
- 39:51Speaker 4: a lot of a lot of talk about the health
- 39:56Speaker 4: of President Donald Trump. We had a text into midday
- 40:00Speaker 4: show on Open Mind, West Virginia yesterday when somebody said
- 40:02Speaker 4: something to the effect of I really hope that what
- 40:06Speaker 4: was I think the exact wordy was. I hope that
- 40:08Speaker 4: the media and you know, I love that term is
- 40:11Speaker 4: as rough on Donald Trump as what they were on
- 40:14Speaker 4: Joe Biden. Well, I mean, I don't know that it
- 40:17Speaker 4: was being rough on Joe Biden, but it was pretty
- 40:19Speaker 4: obvious that Joe Biden was in decline for a long time,
- 40:23Speaker 4: well before the debate. I mean, the debate last summer
- 40:27Speaker 4: was what really put it on full display that the
- 40:30Speaker 4: Democrats had to move on. Somebody should have figured that
- 40:34Speaker 4: out well before then. And look, if that becomes the
- 40:36Speaker 4: case with Donald Trump, I would say the same thing.
- 40:38Speaker 4: And you know me, I'm not a Trump supporter, Okay,
- 40:44Speaker 4: I do think it was very interesting that we made
- 40:45Speaker 4: such a big deal out of Joe Biden's age and
- 40:49Speaker 4: not as much about Donald Trump's. But there was a
- 40:51Speaker 4: lot of unbiased talk, okay, because there is unbiased stuff
- 40:56Speaker 4: out there, you just got to look to find it.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Not talking about CNN or MSNBC or even Fox News.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I'm talking about actual unbiased chatter online from people and
- 41:07Speaker 4: from news sources saying the president President Trump is is
- 41:12Speaker 4: not looking well and acting well and sounding well. They
- 41:14Speaker 4: say so anyway, that's neither here nor there. So I
- 41:17Speaker 4: appreciate the appreciate the text. Text says you won't be
- 41:22Speaker 4: inducted into the Hall of fame, but you could be indicted.
- 41:24Speaker 4: Well that's that's that's possible. Hopefully not, hopefully not. I'm

- 41:57Speaker 4: put TV monitors out in the hallways for the people
- 42:02Speaker 4: that didn't go into the house chambers. It was a
- 42:07Speaker 4: very very memorable event last night, and I had an
- 42:11Speaker 4: opposition of the Morning News this morning. Jeff Jenkins and
- 42:14Speaker 4: Chris Lawrence played some audio from it, the speeches that
- 42:16Speaker 4: came out of it. And this has just been a
- 42:20Speaker 4: I guess a week's worth of of folks and programming
- 42:24Speaker 4: coming out just saying what an incredible human being that
- 42:27Speaker 4: Tim Armstead was. And even when here's what I like

- 43:04Speaker 4: yesterday about Girls Night Out, off again, on again, off again.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Going back to July, the Charleston YWCA YWCA announced that
- 43:14Speaker 4: they would be canceling the annual Girls' Night Out event,
- 43:16Speaker 4: which is, you know, raised money for the Resolved Family
- 43:20Speaker 4: Abuse program. The new CEO there had said then that
- 43:24Speaker 4: the event was quote going back to its roots and
- 43:28Speaker 4: remembering its mission end quote. And I read that to
- 43:31Speaker 4: mean smaller gatherings and smaller events. At least it's the
- 43:35Speaker 4: way I took it. The plan I was told was
- 43:38Speaker 4: to have small gatherings the first Friday of every month,
- 43:40Speaker 4: with the host of the event providing a tool that
- 43:43Speaker 4: would include survivor stories, mission videos, conversation guides, fundraising materials, etc. Now,
- 43:49Speaker 4: according to the story I'm thirteen, the first one has
- 43:52Speaker 4: now been canceled because it didn't sell enough tickets. It
- 43:56Speaker 4: was to have taken place this Friday night at the

- 44:09Speaker 4: we can't solely carry the cost to put on the
- 44:11Speaker 4: event end quote, and tickets will be refunded, according to
- 44:15Speaker 4: the post, and for their part, the Hail Street Center

- 47:19Speaker 4: three five five zero zero eight text says OMG. Of
- 47:26Speaker 4: every segment on the show this morning, not one had
- 47:28Speaker 4: anything to do with Trump. A despicably insane texter whose
- 47:32Speaker 4: daily focus is on nothing but blind hatred of him
- 47:35Speaker 4: is exactly what Trump derangement syndrome sounds like. Boys and
- 47:39Speaker 4: girls say's a texture tex says is obvious. Trump is
- 47:43Speaker 4: a sex abuser in pedophile yet Republicans pretend he's not,
- 47:45Speaker 4: and journalists don't care. Country's broken morals do not matter. Also,
- 47:49Speaker 4: Republicans have no honor or integrity. If you didn't hear
- 47:53Speaker 4: yesterday's local show, I'd urge you go back and listen,
- 47:56Speaker 4: which I always urge to go back and listen, And
- 47:58Speaker 4: the unfortunate event you may miss a second of this
- 48:00Speaker 4: show daily. You can check out the podcast on all
- 48:02Speaker 4: the social media, the website, so on and so forth.
- 48:04Speaker 4: I had the chief of staff for Mayor Goodwin, Matt Sutton,
- 48:09Speaker 4: on the show yesterday and a Texter had asked about
- 48:12Speaker 4: the future of the Town Center, and Aaron Parker turned
- 48:14Speaker 4: it into a story posted this morning wv Metronews dot com.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Mister Sutton says, the city has been having good conversations
- 48:21Speaker 4: with the whole group. Now that's the owners of the
- 48:23Speaker 4: town Centers. And you know, if you think about it,
- 48:26Speaker 4: when the whole group took over the mall in twenty
- 48:29Speaker 4: twenty one, Sears and Macy's have been demolished. The final
- 48:32Speaker 4: anchor of the mall, JC Pennies closed. We all know
- 48:34Speaker 4: about tide water, so on and so forth, and look,
- 48:38Speaker 4: you know first part. Matt Sutton on the show yesterday
- 48:41Speaker 4: says the mall will never be what it was once
- 48:43Speaker 4: and I agree. The future of the mall is not
- 48:47Speaker 4: full on retail establishment. Of course, the sports center someone
- 48:50Speaker 4: on Hold two. It's kind of the baby of County
- 48:52Speaker 4: Commission President Ben Selango and others. So that Commissioner Selango again,
- 48:57Speaker 4: We'll be on the local show tomorrow to talk about it.
- 49:00Speaker 4: And Sutton said yesterday that the sports complex is tied
- 49:02Speaker 4: directly to what's going on at the mall, and a
- 49:05Speaker 4: quote from mister Sutton directly from yesterday's show, We're working
- 49:09Speaker 4: through not only some additional funding opportunities that we have,
- 49:12Speaker 4: but also what the future of the mall and the
- 49:14Speaker 4: property is going to hold in quote interesting stuff. And
- 49:20Speaker 4: while we all would like the mall to go back
- 49:24Speaker 4: to its former glory, think Pica Day Christmas nineteen eighty
- 49:27Speaker 4: seven is using that as an example. I mean, that
- 49:30Speaker 4: is simply not going to happen. The city of Charleston
- 49:35Speaker 4: knows that, and the whole group knows that. And I've
- 49:40Speaker 4: said this for some time. One store one restaurant is
- 49:47Speaker 4: not going to change that. And I'm sorry, with all
- 49:49Speaker 4: due respect to my former producer Caitlin Murphy who was convinced,
- 49:53Speaker 4: love to death that Dave and Busters would save the
- 49:55Speaker 4: Town Center. It's not nor any other one or two businesses.
- 50:00Speaker 4: And the text lines always light up when we talk
- 50:03Speaker 4: about this, Well bring this in. Ain't nothing gonna work
- 50:07Speaker 4: under the current model. One store one restaurant is not
- 50:11Speaker 4: gonna work. And and I've said since day one, I
- 50:17Speaker 4: am all on board with the Sports Complex, have been
- 50:21Speaker 4: since day one. Pair it up with a few more
- 50:25Speaker 4: smaller establishments, maybe a restaurant or to a simple food
- 50:30Speaker 4: court kind of a place, a concert area, And of
- 50:35Speaker 4: course we still had the desperty for more hotels. And
- 50:39Speaker 4: I think you could have a winner, I really really do.
- 50:42Speaker 4: But the future if you are holding your breath saying
- 50:46Speaker 4: we're gonna open up X store. Everybody in this whole
- 50:48Speaker 4: country's crazy about BUCkies now, and for the life of me,
- 50:51Speaker 4: I visited one a couple of weeks ago. I don't
- 50:52Speaker 4: know why, but I'm glad i went. You know, I
- 50:55Speaker 4: got the experience, you know, because there's nothing like camping
- 50:57Speaker 4: fresh brisket at seven o'clock in the morning. You know,
- 51:02Speaker 4: everybody's in love with it now. Even if you put
- 51:05Speaker 4: one of those in there, which is not gonna happen,
- 51:08Speaker 4: it's not gonna say not in its current set. That's
- 51:10Speaker 4: that's the future of it. And I am glad I
- 51:14Speaker 4: like the vision of the City of Charleston and the
- 51:16Speaker 4: County Commission and others have for it right now, because
- 51:18Speaker 4: I think that's what the future is. Tex says the
- 51:21Speaker 4: only hold on to me.
- 51:23Speaker 5: Back up.
- 51:24Speaker 4: I care about my country. That's why I text in
- 51:26Speaker 4: Trump's failures so Dave can read them and maybe so
- 51:29Speaker 4: they might sink into thick maga heads. Unlikely but wishful
- 51:32Speaker 4: thinking to preserve what's great about our country. The only
- 51:35Speaker 4: people who are deranged are people who support the fraudster,
- 51:38Speaker 4: pedophile Donald Trump, TJ. Meadows. Neither of those things. That
- 51:45Speaker 4: is what it's right now.
- 51:46Speaker 17: They don't want to save them all. They want to
- 51:49Speaker 17: redevelop the land. That's how they make money. That's what
- 51:50Speaker 17: these groups do. They go in, they buy distressed assets
- 51:53Speaker 17: and look at that. They keep one or two anchors
- 51:55Speaker 17: until it's done. Look at the history. I mean, that's
- 51:57Speaker 17: what this company does well. I mean, the company's all
- 51:58Speaker 17: over amer can do it and make a lot of
- 52:00Speaker 17: money doing it. So their deal is to bring something
- 52:03Speaker 17: completely new, demolish the building that's there. It's the value
- 52:06Speaker 17: is the land and they'll sell the land to somebody
- 52:08Speaker 17: and they'll make their money.
- 52:09Speaker 4: I mean.
- 52:09Speaker 17: So yeah, if you think the town center's coming back,
- 52:12Speaker 17: I got some property I want to sell you.
- 52:15Speaker 4: Let me get this in here. If you need to
- 52:16Speaker 4: protect that property with a valence shown five of elves

- 52:26Speaker 4: All right, what do you got on the Big Show today?
- 52:27Speaker 17: More West Virginia Paul favorability of Donald Trump jd vance,
- 52:30Speaker 17: Various policies at the administration has undertaken. We'll talk that
- 52:33Speaker 17: big rate case that APCO had and the result from
- 52:36Speaker 17: the PSC.
- 52:36Speaker 4: That and much much more. The popularity of Donald Trump.
- 52:40Speaker 4: The story set to break. It should be on the
