- 0:01SPEAKER_03: Hello, hello, hello.
- 0:03SPEAKER_03: Welcome to Cleaning Business Life, where you can get profit strategies for growth.
- 0:07SPEAKER_03: My name is Shannon Miller and I am your host.
- 0:09SPEAKER_03: And we have Kimberly Gonzalez, your co-host.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: Kimberly, take it away.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Hi, everybody.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Welcome.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Good morning.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Good morning.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: If you're listening to this this morning, I hope everybody's week has been great so far.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I know it's been kind of crazy for the whole last, what, I would say last week to two weeks.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Um, but just take that moment and just breathe and know that things are going to get better.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: But today we are going to talk about feeling valued and why valuing yourself is so important.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Um, have you ever welcome like walked into a home and you're getting ready to clean and you're pumped up and you're just ready and you're just have all that pride in you and you're ready to go.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And you waited, you did a fabulous job, and then you are waiting for the email.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: You're waiting for the client to respond, and you're just excited like a kid on Christmas, waiting to hear back on how you did your job.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: But then you hear crickets and it's nothing, it's pure silence.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: How did that make you feel?
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Well, then you guys have come to the right podcast today because Shannon and I are going to talk about why valuing yourself is so important.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: I agree, I agree.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: It's um sometimes, especially in the cleaning industry, you have to self-validate yourself.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Um, looking for someone to give you a pat on the back or an accolade is great when you can get them, but we're so busy in all our lives.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: It shouldn't be something that is expected all the time.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: When you get one, it's like, woo-hoo, or even how great are five-star reviews?
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: We all know how valuable those are, right?
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: I love my five stars.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: And and they're worth a lot of money and income when you have five-star reviews.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, this is off topic, but one bad review, it takes 40 five-star reviews to negate the one bad review.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: But we're not here to talk about that.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: We're talking about values.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: So um, being valued, you have to be able to the long time ago, this is I'm getting all over the place.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: Um, a long time ago when I was in my 20s, I had a girlfriend who um was always looking for love.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: That's all the only thing she ever wanted.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: And I finally went there and I love this person still to this day.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: We've been friends for 35 years.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Like you have to love yourself before you can love others.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: And if you don't love yourself, you kind of have to self-reflect and figure out why you don't love yourself.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: What about your life is not making you happy?
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Um, and and cleaning is a lot of heart and soul.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, how many of us feel validated when we've taken a messy house and it's sparkly clean and everything's in order?
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: It makes everyone feel great, right, Kim?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I could feel just feel I could just see myself when you're saying that I could just see myself pictured with my hands and my hips and my chest out with my super cape just flowing and feeling like a superhero in those situations.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: But, you know, it's important to feel that valued and to feel respected when you go into homes and you work with people, even on a day-to-day aspect of, you know, just going to the store, you know, how are you feeling respected?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: You know, being in our industry, you're right.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: It's we don't feel respected a lot of the times.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Um and Shannon, what was one of the times that you didn't feel valued or respected?
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Um, typically when people overstep their boundaries.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: Um, I have very I've learned in my over a decade in this industry to have very clear boundaries because when you don't have them up, people overstep and they overstep because you haven't drawn the line in the sand.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Um excuse me.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: For example, if someone is upset because of um poor quality, it's not the cleaning tech's job to take the grunt of the anger.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: It is the owner of the business to take the grunt of the anger for the employee.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: Um, and in 1099, there's a different exchange that happens there.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: We and we won't go into that today, but um, not feeling respected and being yelled at, and sometimes telling someone to calm down is not gonna add any peanut butter to your jelly, right?
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: You're you're gonna have to calm them down yourself.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Like it's like a police officer saying, Well, you just need to calm down.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: Well, that's great.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: I'm not even upset yet, right?
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: And so then that's the next action.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: So then it just adds more fuel to the flames and really appreciating yourself.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: So being objective, um, when someone brings something like that to your attention and then apologizing.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: Um, when I was in the restaurant industry, they always taught us as managers to put your hand on your chest, even if you're talking to them over the phone, because it reminds you to speak from the heart and try to enunciate and talk a little slower to calm everything down.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Um, we all have talked about our one-star review, and I still have it for Castle Keeper Cleaning.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: If you were to search Castle Keeper Cleaning Prescott, Arizona, it's still there.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: It's still there.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: She um just wasn't um all mentally there, and I didn't catch it.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: And we, you know, went back and recleaned, and then it was, you know, not nothing to do with cleaning.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: It was all about painting, and she didn't want to paint.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: And I still expected us even after we recleaned to give me to give her a free cleaning.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: And that's not the dynamic, and that's not how businesses run.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: Small businesses can't afford to have extra labor and then give a free cleaning, but occasionally you are gonna have a thing where you just have to give back the money, and it just sucks.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: And and until that person opens a business themselves, they'll never understand.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: Kim, give us an example of what you had.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Um, well, again, it goes back to that time.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: I think I told back in a few podcasts ago that about that lady that I was cleaning with the whole sawdust and everything, and I kept cleaning, and I was like, this is not a regular clean.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And you know, it goes back.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: And if you go to my um Google page for Evergreen EcoClean, you are gonna see that one star.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: And she was like my one star, and then she had her husband go to leave a one star.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Right, because then it becomes vindictive, right?
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take you down.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: I don't care, I'm angry with you.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: You're like, even though they just didn't take my professionalism.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I had to take a step back.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And I think that um when we do get in situations, when you do get a call from a client and they're upset, like you said, you know, I I do that too a lot of times when I'm talking, I put my hand on my heart to remind me.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Another thing that I like to do is I take a breath and I just pause and I think about what I'm gonna say because I think the one thing that um clients want to hear, like customers want to hear, is they want you to listen to them.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Listen first.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Listen first.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: So before you start saying, Oh, I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, listen first.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Say, I'd like to listen to what you know, or use the words, say I really would love like to know, you know, what we can do to help, but I'd like to hear, you know, what we can do.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And listen to them because when they are listened to, they feel validated.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And I think that comes back honestly for us too.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: When we are listened to in our industry, we feel validated.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: So I know when I had a client come to me, she's like, Kimberly, I really don't know what to use for this to clean.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And I want I don't want to ruin this.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: And I know that you're the expertise of you know, products and cleaning.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: What do you recommend?
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And just listening to her just made my heart so full.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: So, like that is huge.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Listening is, I would say, one of my top um, I guess, advice for you know, making people feel valued.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Definitely.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: So, so listening and then um offering a solution and then thanking them at the end for bringing it to your attention.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: They didn't have to, they could have slammed you all over social media, which is so easy to do.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: We've seen it everywhere.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: How many times have we seen where a homeowner um slammed a poor cleaning business and the cleaning business wasn't um experienced enough to say, hey, let's let's address this, and instead let it festered, and then it becomes this whole dynamic, and then you know, 595 comments later.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: And we actually had it here in my town, and I had to reach out to the cleaner, and then I reached out to the homeowner, and flat out the homeowner was like, Screw this.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: I've already given her several chances to fix it, and no way.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: So then she proceeded to slam this business more, and I was just like, You're just a really and she was a business owner herself, and and just she was just an ugly person on the inside at that moment.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying you're ugly all the time, but we do have moments where we misbehave.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and um, it was just uncalled for.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: She could have, I could have been the mediator, I could have fixed it with the cleaner and the homeowner because the the cleaner business owner didn't have enough experience, but she didn't want that.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: She wanted to be angry.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: And I wish people would take time, even though they're frustrated and you know, probably write what about whatever the injustice is, to take a deep breath themselves and realize that we cannot walk on water.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: If we can walk on water, we'd be doing other things.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's just like I think that we all need just to take time out, even like when we're getting angry about something or something and work out right, take that moment, breathe, just really process that that time, that moment, and how you can react because it comes back to reacting to situations again with customers.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: Definitely.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: And I think since COVID, too, we are more it's more acceptable to have a blender than before.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: Um, and how many times have we been to other businesses where there just aren't enough employees?
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Because they this pay structure, company culture, or their job's been eliminated.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: So you you got to take that into perspective when you're getting frustrated, even as a homeowner, with another small business, right?
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: You you're doing business because you like, know, and trust that individual.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Give them an opportunity to fix it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Um exactly.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: So yeah, we both have had blunders in our tenure of um feeling valued.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: And then um, what do you do to boost your self-esteem, Miss Kim?
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Um, I feel like boosting my self-esteem is it's okay.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Like when I say when I when I made a mistake, it's going back and saying, it's okay, I'm human.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I make mistakes.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: And I tell myself, it is okay, I'm human.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: So when I boost my self-esteem, it's just reassuring myself.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: And that comes back to feeling loved, you know, like loving yourself.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: You have to love yourself to be able to boost your self-esteem.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't expect others to boost my self-esteem.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: You know, that's not their job.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: It's my job to be loving myself, and it's my job to find ways to tell myself it I am worth it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: So write on get a uh a dry erase marker and write on your your mirror in the morning, you know, the validations.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: I am loved, I am great at doing this, and find ways to boost your self-esteem, even if it's post-notes everywhere.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Having having mantras really do help as well.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Um, one of the things I do for um self-esteem and self-care in general is um I go on vacation twice a year, and you might not be ready or be able to afford to go on vacation twice a year because of where you are in your business.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: But and and if that's the case, you could actually spend the whole day out in the woods.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: You and I both like to be out in the in the nature.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: That's what I guess every day.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, go for a drive, you know, go for a walk.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: It's and be amongst the trees and the and the animal noises and just really kind of taking in it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: I always feel so charged when I'm among the trees.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: I come back and I'm just excited and I'm ready to dig in and start again.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: But if you don't give yourself the opportunity, and because I know a lot of you guys out there are burning it at both ends, you have a full-time job and you're working in a cleaning business at on the weekends, then you have kid and mom responsibilities, then you have soccer practice and all of the other stuff that comes along with our busy lives.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: That if you don't take time for yourself, you're gonna end up, you could end up hurting yourself.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: You could end up in the hospital from exhaustion.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: You could, I mean, there's so many things, you know, I think anxiety, the stress kicks in.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Like I feel, and this is, and I'm sure your mind goes the same way too as my mind.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Um, and then, you know, people in our industry is that we're not only trying to run our business, like you said, but we've got our to-do list going on in our head.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: We're like, oh, I got to do this.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, I can't forget to do this, I got to get this done for the kids, I got to do the laundry, get dinner.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: It's like our minds never stop.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: And if we don't do that, that is when our bodies are gonna start breaking down, either weight gain from you know, the stress, you can just not have those anxiety attacks.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: So, you know, one of the things to, you know, fill your cup per se, may not need to be, you know, spending money on yourself if you don't have a lot of money.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: I don't have a lot of money right now to go spend on myself.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: So, like you said, my self-care is going outside, going for a walk, um, giving myself, even if it's 15 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes extra to sleep in.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, because I wake up early in the mornings.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: So filling your cup is so important to help boost your self-esteem.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Definitely.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: And I will take a time outside over anything if you give me the opportunity.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: If you say, let's go for a hike, I'm like, I'm there.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: I it's something that I, as I'm getting older, need more of.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: Um, when I was young and I lived in like Tahoe, I didn't really relish the opportunity that I had presented to me.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, I was there and I was a cocktail waitress and I did those things, and um, that was great.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: And I did nothing but want to leave because all of the people were older than me.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: They were old barts, you know, dirty old men.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: And I was a cocktail waitress.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I had no, you know, I must have been making some good money there, Shannon.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: I did make some good money as a cocktail waitress.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: I mean you try being 22 and making, you know, 150 grand a year.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: It was bogies.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: So it was all it was that that was just a different point in my life.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: But now that I'm older, I appreciate the time amongst the trees even more.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Um, and I think it's really important that we kind of all get back to nature.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying, you know, hippy-dippy earthy crunchy stuff.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying really relish the moments when you're outside.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, for example, my Facebook feed, we went went down to Phoenix to take care of a couple errands for three miles, three miles, all yellow flowers, and and then orange flowers in between, and then there were spots of red.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh my god, visually, this is so visually stimulating.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I can we go around my back.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Like, no, take the scenic route, you know.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Like, I do that all the time.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: I take scenic routes because I don't want to be on the freeway.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: There's nothing to see there.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: So I take the back roads.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: If you live in California or South Carolina or Florida, go for a walk on the beach.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: And I I I challenge you guys, this is a good challenge.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: I challenge you guys to sit down, find a place to sit down and just close your eyes and take some breaths in and listen to everything around you.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I did that the other day.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: I went to the park and I closed my eyes and I listened.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: And I just even for five minutes of my day, it just made my day so much better.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Or if you're lucky enough to live close to Sedona, like I do.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: I like there's a park that we hang out in, and I will actually just lay on the cement in Sedona.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: And I just feel so recharged every time I have to go into town to get my mail or check in things.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: Um, it it does, it's a good vortex vibe thing, right?
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, you can there's a lot of things that you can do for self-care and feeling valued.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Um, obviously getting accolades from your clients is awesome.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: When you have someone who is excited about the service you provided, immediately hit them up for a review.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: Don't wait until next time.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: Send them the link, get good at your um, you know, if you have an iPhone, you can actually preload in your Google link for your Google My Business and send it over them via text message.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: If you don't have a digital calendar system, get those five-star reviews, really start building your reputation.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: It's so helpful.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: And I was gonna just say, I'm really lucky.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, Amy's not on our podcast because she doesn't own a cleaning company.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: But Amy comes to my home on Mondays and Thursdays, and I'm so beyond thankful for her because those that you can see, because we're on voice stuff, um, like we're doing this.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: But if you're watching YouTube, I have notes all on my whiteboard back here that says, I love you so much.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Call me and text me when you get home.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: You are so kind, you are so loved, you brighten my world.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: And I am so beyond thankful that I have somebody that gives me that because those little things for me are icing on the cake.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: So if you have people that do those kinds of things, soak them up and love them back.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: I think that we all need to be boosting each other up and just definitely hugging, like an air hug, or you know, Shannon sometimes, you know, like you send me a text and you just, you know, tell me, check in on me, you know, or just I love that.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: So and I think that we all need to do that.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: I I think as a society, I'd like to believe that we are all about collaboration now.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: It's not every man for themselves and screw you, I'm not gonna help you, I'm just gonna make it to the top.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: Um, shamefully, I was that way in my prior business.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Um, and and that whole vibe is not even cool now.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: I think that being the person who supports the rest, and I constantly am talking about this inside the groups, that we have it's important to help boost each other up.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: We're not crabs in a bucket where we take each other's down because one of them's gonna escape.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: We're we're all here together.
- 17:16SPEAKER_03: There's enough business for everybody.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: I it's like I still have every time someone goes, Oh my, well, there's too many cleaning companies, I'm never gonna make it.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: I'm like, first of all, mindset.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Hello, because how many people your body can't tell the difference if you're saying something negative or positive.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: So be careful of your thoughts because you're it doesn't know, right?
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: It only knows if so if you're constantly talking positively to yourself, I am beautiful, I am healthy, I'm happy, I'm whatever it is, that's gonna boost yourself up more than waiting for the validation from your significant other or your work partner or don't wait on them, right?
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, love yourself up and stuff.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: That's you know, I try to do that every morning.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: So um I want you guys to think of a situation when you guys didn't feel valued.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: So if you're listening, I want you just to think of you know that one situation where you just didn't feel valued.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: How can you change your mindset?
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: So if you didn't feel valued, like and we kind of went through that, you know, a little bit, but if you didn't feel valued, how can you change your mindset?
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: What can you do to change it?
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: I think that kind of goes hand in hand with confidence.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Um and yeah, we've we've talked about it probably thousands of times, and we'll still probably talk about it thousands of times.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: And that kind of correlates back to loving yourself, having the confidence, you know.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: I'm not talking about having big balls, excuse my French.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: Um having the confidence to really carry yourself through, walking into a room, smiling, enjoying that you're being there, even though you're totally nervous and your hands are all sweaty, um, being comfortable speaking, talking to someone over the phone.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: I know that our society is all about messenger and messaging and DMs and you know, all whatever else goes with all the other social platforms.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: And it can be overwhelming when you're having to respond to nine different platforms.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: It's like, dude, I don't please just email me.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: I'm more than happy to, you know, do that for you.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: But self-confidence comes from a lot of ways.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can really be comfortable in your skin and and know what you're talking about, and and it can be nerve-wracking when you're like learning how to sell your services.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Um, that's a big one.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: You if you don't sound like you are a little bit cocky and you know what you're talking about, the customer's gonna go, this person's lame.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't want them, they're too new, they're gonna break something uh or the next shiny thing, they'll just move along.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: But when you talk the talk, like when someone asks me about a move out cleaning, I'm like, Yeah, we've done 7,000 of them.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: How can I help you?
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: And then we go through the process of the sell script and you know, and then they're like, wow, you've done this a lot.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: I'm like, Yeah, I have done this a lot.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: And you know, we've only blundered it like one time.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: I never mentioned that unless they ask.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: Um, but having the confidence of walking through, no walking the walk, talking the talk, know your stuff.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, I just like we go back to that again.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I saw a post um yesterday, and I don't know which group it was, but somebody used toilet bowl cleaner on the shower drain.
- 20:18unknown: Oh God.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, if I can just I'm telling you, I'd probably be bald by now.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: If I could pick up every little hair of every time I see somebody using shower bowl cleaner, you know, I'd be bald.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: But going back to it, it's like, know your stuff because people depend on you as the professional house cleaner, they depend on you being professional.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: So if you're gonna use shower bowl cleaner in the shower, that is not professional.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Know your products, know how to confidently sell them a clean.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: And that goes back to, you know, getting, you know, the education, getting the training, investing back in your business.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Because when you invest back in your business in these trainings, and especially what Shannon offers for these trainings, invest back in them because that's going to help you feel confident.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: It's gonna boost your ability to sell, and it's gonna give you that professionalism.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: So definitely just be thinking about how you can change your mindset.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: And if that just means, you know, I am valued.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: This person didn't value me, but you know what?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: They don't have to value me.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: You know, they are not the right customer for me, they're not the right person that needs to be in my circle, right?
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: Circle of influence is totally um important.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: I I think another um segment of feeling valued, and we see this a lot, and because I'm asked this question probably a thousand times every month.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to price, I don't know how to price, I don't know how to price.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: And we can see that you don't know how to price when you're charging$15 an hour and you're looking for a summer special to fill up your schedule, and it kind of lowballs the rest of the industry.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: So you're you know you're indirectly impacting because you don't have the confidence or the value in yourself and the belief in yourself that you could actually earn.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: More.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: I get told that all I can never, there's no way I can get that.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: There's no way, there's no way.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: And again, they're already putting it in their mind.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: They're already putting that in their mind.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm not going to get that.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to get that.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: No, you need to say, I'm going to close this sale.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: And if I don't close it, that is okay because those clients are not for me.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: And rejection is part of the sales process.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, I it's been hot the last couple of years in the real estate industry.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: I know of one particular real estate agent who didn't have to do anything but, you know, flip her hand from one way to the other.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: She made a sale.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Now she's starting to advertise because the market's gotten a little softer.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: But she did like five million dollars in business in the last 12 months.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: She went down to Mexico like every month.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: I'm like, how is your husband able to take time off?
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Because he works for one of the utility companies.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: I guess he had accrued all this vacation time.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I don't know how you guys can afford.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, private horse lessons.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, she did.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: So I was like, congratulations.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's yeah, I was just saying, like, thinking like when you feel valued about yourself, you're going to do your best job.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: And people are going to see that confidence and they're going to want to hang around you and they're going to want your business.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Like people will be drawn to you.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: And then that's how you're going to get your business.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: When you go to networking groups, stand tall, like present yourself with, you know, happiness and that you are strong and you understand your job.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: And people are going to see that it is going to leak out of your skin.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: People are going to see it and they're going to gravitate towards you.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And that is how you are going to be able to make sales because people are going to feel like that they like you because of the value that you bring and the value that you show for yourself.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: And also when you're at networking events, don't just say I'm a cleaner.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: That will have to be on a whole nother podcast, Shannon, that we're going to have to teach on just like going to networking events and how to present yourself.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Let's I'm going to write that down because I'm okay.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: But yes, pricing, being able to price, if you are not comfortable with how to price, and we've all done it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: We've talked about this in several other podcasts.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: We've all at some point started somewhere and we didn't know what we were doing because we thought we were going to make gold.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: And then we realized quickly that, you know, I'm not going to make my financial goals, right?
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I have big plans.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: I got a lot of things I want to do.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: I want to give back to society.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: I have, you know, all of these humanitarian things I want to do.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: And the only way to get there is to make the money to make it happen, right?
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: Because I don't have, I'm, I don't, I'm not a trust fund baby, even though I know a lot of trust fund babies.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: But it's it's this dynamic of being able and being comfortable.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: And when they say no, just say, I'm really sorry.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: It doesn't sound like we're going to get fit.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: If that changes, you know, call me back and let me know.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: Or occasionally, and you know, there's the token person who tries to shame you into submission, or they click your Google lead.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: I've had this happen, and you say the price, and I'm like, what?
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: And then they hang up the phone on you, and then they cook your Google lake again.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, dude, for it.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: And then he's like, well, I just looked on Google and they said housekeeping is this.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: I'm like, so and you own a cleaning business.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: It's like, no, you don't.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those people will gravitate you.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: And you just, I've I've learned over the years, even with my products now, um, that not everybody's gonna buy my products.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: And you know, I see people that do my buy my products and then they go out and buy like 20 more different products.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: And it's like, not every client or customer is gonna be, you know, for me or for them.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: And that's okay.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: You know, I gave when you are in your business and you give the value of your business and the information, you did that.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: And if they want you, then they're gonna come back because that's they value you.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: So it goes both ways.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: It does.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: And you know, and a lot of times, as we, you know, you've all heard me mention that, you know, 55,000 other cleaning business owners are gonna come on the scene in the United States alone in 2023.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: Um, if you've never had a business before, your circle of influence will change.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: So your circle of influence, if you're a bureaucrat and you worked for the state of, I don't know, California and you've taken a leave of whatever, your circle of influence is gonna change as you become an entrepreneur.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Your mindset is gonna be different.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: How you engage with people is different.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: You're you're gonna have to learn how to hustle, right?
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying you have to hustle all the time, but your engagement is gonna be different.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: You're on, right?
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: You're not just I'm here to pick up my paycheck and I got my benefits.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: You're like, okay, for dinner tonight, and how am I gonna do that?
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: And how much am I gonna go myself for, right?
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Because we all have financial goals on how much money we're gonna revenue we're gonna pull in and what our labor costs are and all that other stuff.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Um, your and your case, Kim it would be your supplies.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: So being ready and being on is different than you know, working for someone and picking up a paycheck.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: So you're gonna your eyes will be open and you're gonna start to see things a lot differently than when you didn't.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: So your circle of influence will be different.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: Um, the cleaning industry has a low threshold for getting in.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: It's like a thousand dollars.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: You can get up and going and and be running, right?
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Then there's the acquirement of clients and then performing the jobs.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna perform the jobs?
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: Is someone else gonna perform the jobs?
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Where's the legal gray area between W-2s and 1099s?
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: You guys all hear me talk about that all the time, but really knowing your stuff, being educated, following people that inspire you, um, listening to podcasts that inspire you.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Um, sometimes when I'm letting people in the groups, I'm checking out your profile usually before I let you in, and you have no form, nobody knows what you're doing.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: That it's it's just not there.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Um, so building relationships, building relationships, collaboration with others, like what Kim and I are doing.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: We collaborate all of the time.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: She knows people, I know people.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: I'm like, hey, my friend Kim knows this person.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Would you like an introduction?
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Boom, right?
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So each other out.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's all about collaboration and the relationships you were building right now.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: So please make yourself aware and change your circle of influence and don't look for support, emotional support from your family, especially if your family has never had anybody who's an entrepreneur, they're gonna try to tear you down.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: I hate to say that, and I want to, I don't want to be a negative Nancy, and if your name's Nancy, I'm sorry.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: But it it happens because they're scared in their mind, they're scared, so they want you to be okay.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: So they're gonna scare you, so you're not gonna take the step off the curb.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: But valuing yourself, so understanding that your dynamics and your friendships will change, your relationships will change, um, your priorities will change, and then if your husband comes in business with you, then he's gonna go, Oh my god, why didn't I quit earlier?
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it just depends on the dynamic of your relationship.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: Like I wouldn't ever go on a job with my husband, he's a plumber.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: I don't wanna, he literally deals with S-H-I-T.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: He deals with poopies every day.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's just like, oh nothing way worse than like ever a cleaner has to deal with, I'm sure.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: You know, I feel like too, when we are valued, we're more motivated.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: I feel definitely, you know, when I have, you know, the days where people are telling me, like, wow, I love your products.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Like, there's some days where I'll post a marketing, you know, it's I I do marketing Mondays.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: That's I do all my marketing on Mondays.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: And so people see my stuff and people comment.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: And the people that comment about my products, it's just it fills my heart up with so much joy and it just boosts my confidence.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and think about like when you go to clean or even your employees go to clean and they talk about the tip that they got.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: You know, it's great, you know, like I got a$30 tip every single time when I cleaned and I loved it.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: And it was just because she made me feel like it was like my icing on the cake.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: I just felt on top of the world, you know, that she valued me.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: So find those clients, find the clients that value you.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Surround yourself with people about that, you know, valuing.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: Not every client is gonna be your client.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: It's just a reality.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, housekeeping is still very new to a lot of people.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Um, there are those who think it's a necessity, and those guys get it.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: They've had cleaners for years and years and years, don't even question your price, and then you have others who um it's it's a mess, right?
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: You go in and they haven't picked up, they're not ready for cleaning, or they cancel at the last minute, or they have a lot of complaints because they're OCD.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: I who put a post in there the other day about the lady who was looking for someone who wanted to use bleach and it looked like she had burned through every other person in her area, and she wanted a cleaner who was also a better cleaner than her.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, talk about intimidation.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: To me, those are red flags.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Whenever I read that, I'm like, nope, I'm not going.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna even respond to that because that's a red flag.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, like I have a sheet that when I go to interview, when I when I get my phone call and they call me, I have a sheet that I go through.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And one of the questions on my sheet in the beginning is, is have you had your house professionally cleaned?
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: And I use the word professionally cleaned.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And when, and then the next question after that is when was the last time you had your house professionally cleaned?
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Never.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: I know, like she's like, never, yes, I've had it clean.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: I clean it.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: No, no, there's a difference.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Did you have it professionally cleaned?
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Or so you know, again, that's a little secret hint that I want to just give you everybody when you are interviewing people over the phone.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: And that's the way of the world.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: I know that when you're brand new, um, it's often suggested you do in-person bidding because you're still bidding by the hour.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: But once you learn how to bid flat rate, you should have ranges and be able to do everything over the phone.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: We're what we're watching gas prices increase, so which is a bummer for me when I go on vacation next month.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: I know it's going to be like$9 a gallon, like it was last summer at my mom's house.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: Just like because we, you know, we drive by car because it's I, you know, I have two, I have an old dog who I take on vacation with me, but it's it's just an interesting dynamic.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: So make sure you're paying attention and you know what you're doing and that you're um acquiring the right types of clients.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: So um, I guess it just like I think we're just we're talking about like now what makes us feel valued in our industry?
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you feel valued?
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: You know, the validation that we need.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: I am I think when you're new, it's the it's the accolades from the clients, making sure the validation that you're doing a good job.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: And then as you get older and more systems in place, I think it comes down to the numbers.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: And then when you really hit like the seven-figure mark, it's all about the extra bonus check that you're giving yourself or the diamond ring or whatever it is that you want, your vacation in uh the central pay, right?
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: It's just it's just you just never know.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Everybody has a different point of where that is.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: So think about what um makes you feel valid in your, you know, your industry, what makes you feel valid in the cleaning industry?
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I just I feel like we just I don't know, Shannon.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: I'd I'd like to do a little exercise like I did on our group, if that's okay.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Um, I did it in one of the messengers, and I just really feel like we need it.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: So um if you guys are driving, you guys can pull over.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: If you're listening to this, even if it's just a minute, um, if you're like on a race, you know, come back and just listen to this.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: But I just wanted you to take a moment and I just want you to take a big breath in and just breathe it out.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: And I just want you to close your eyes for a moment, and I just want you to take everything in and just tell yourself that I am loved and that today is good, and that I'm thankful and I'm blessed, and just take a moment and just listen.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Listen to the things around you.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: And I just want you to just take this moment just to really reflect on the wonderful things that you've accomplished and just feel validated that you are doing your best and that you are achieving goals.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Take that moment just to breathe in.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Listen to everything around you.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: And as you go through the day today, I want you to just take time out.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Even if it's for a moment, if you start feeling your heart is racing and you start having the anxiety kicking in, or somebody said something to you.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: I want you just to take that moment, pause, and just to breathe.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: And as you come back to your body and you come back and you're aware of yourself, I want you to open up your eyes.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: And I just want you to go throughout your day and I want you to know that you are loved.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Shannon and I love you, and we are so thankful for you today.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: And hug somebody today.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Do somebody give somebody a message, write them a card, send them some love, um, buy somebody a coffee for the person in front of you because it's a win-win situation for everybody.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: You feel loved, and they feel loved.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: So that's what it's all about, folks.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: So I hope you guys have a wonderful day and thank you again for listening.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Be sure to subscribe and share.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Um, we just want to get word out about our wonderful podcast.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: And thank you guys again for joining us again today.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: And be ready for next week.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: See you guys next week.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: See you guys next week.
