- 2:42Sunny mornings send you. In local news. In Boston,
- 2:49the paper store is set to close its West Roxbury
- 2:51location this week, marking the end of an era
- 2:54that spanned more than 20 years. Situated at
- 2:581804 Center Street in the Roach Brothers Plaza,
- 3:02a store employee confirmed the closure, although
- 3:05no specific reason was provided. The paper store
- 3:09originally opened in the early 2000s after relocating
- 3:12to the plaza. Despite this closure, the chain
- 3:16is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a significant
- 3:19modernization effort, and it continues to expand
- 3:23with new locations, including its first store
- 3:26in Illinois. Now on to sports. The Athletics
- 3:35celebrated a significant milestone on Monday,
- 3:38marking the groundbreaking for their $1 .8 billion
- 3:41ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip. The site, covering
- 3:46nine acres of a 35 -acre area, will accommodate
- 3:4933 ,000 fans. Athletics owner John Fisher emphasized
- 3:55the long journey to this point, saying these
- 3:58things take so long to actually make happen.
- 4:01Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred
- 4:04expressed excitement about adding the athletics
- 4:06to Las Vegas' vibrant sports scene. The stadium,
- 4:11expected to be completed in 32 months, aims to
- 4:15provide a luxury experience with numerous suites
- 4:18and amenities. In local sports, last night in
- 4:23Anaheim, the Sox dropped a tough one to the Angels,
- 4:26losing 9 -5. Carrot Whitlock took the loss, giving
- 4:31up six runs. Nathaniel Lowe's 280 -foot homer
- 4:36helped seal the win for Los Angeles, and Story's
- 4:39solo shot in the sixth added some life, but it
- 4:42wasn't enough. The Sox now stand at 40 -40, while
- 4:46the Angels improve to 38 -40. It was a tough
- 4:51night for Boston at Angel Stadium. Tonight, the
- 4:55Sox face the Angels in Anaheim for Game 2 of
- 4:58this three -game series. Garrett Crochet, boasting
- 5:03a 2 .20 earned run average, goes head -to -head
- 5:07with Tyler Anderson, who has a 4 .56. First pitch
- 5:12is at 938, with clear skies and a warm 77 degrees.
- 5:19In top news, hotel owners in Los Angeles are
- 5:24in open revolt against the city's new $30 an
- 5:27hour minimum wage, which is set to be the highest
- 5:30in the country. The city council voted last month
- 5:34to gradually increase wages for hotel staff until
- 5:372028. Despite upcoming major sporting events,
- 5:42hotel owners are concerned about the financial
- 5:44strain, citing a decrease in foreign visitors
- 5:47and rising labor costs. Many are canceling renovations
- 5:52and scaling back services. The local hotel union
- 5:56argues that higher wages are necessary for workers
- 5:59to afford living in Los Angeles, where rental
- 6:02costs are significantly higher than the national
- 6:05average. In business news, Tesla's initial rollout
- 6:11of robotaxi driverless vehicles has sparked a
- 6:15significant rally, boosting Elon Musk's net worth
- 6:18by $17 billion. Shares of Tesla surged 9%, or
- 6:25$29, hitting a three -week high of over $350.
- 6:31Musk, who holds a 13 % stake in Tesla, plus an
- 6:35additional 9%, extended his lead as the world's
- 6:38wealthiest person, outpacing Oracle chairman
- 6:41Larry Ellison by more than $175 billion. The
- 6:48launch featured 10 to 20 model Y vehicles, impressing
- 6:52investors despite ongoing skepticism surrounding
- 6:55Tesla's driverless initiatives. In crypto movement,
- 7:00Bitcoin is down 1 % to $105 ,000. Ethereum is
- 7:07down half a percent to just over $2 ,400. And
- 7:12XRP is down 1 % to $2 .15. Moving on to a more
- 7:19local vibe. In our community spotlight on health

- 8:03back to the show. Let's talk tech. OpenAI and
- 8:09Johnny Ives' first artificial intelligence device
- 8:12will not be a wearable or in -ear product, according
- 8:16to recent court filings. Leaders from I .O.,
- 8:19the consumer hardware team acquired by OpenAI
- 8:22for $6 .5 billion, revealed that this device
- 8:26is still at least a year away from being available
- 8:29for sale, not shipping until at least 2026. The
- 8:35prototype's design remains unfinished. Additionally,
- 8:39OpenAI had to remove references to the I .O.
- 8:42brand due to a trademark lawsuit from another
- 8:44startup called I .O., which claims OpenAI infringed
- 8:49on its trademark rights. And in entertainment
- 8:54news... Pixar has experienced its worst opening
- 8:59weekend in history with Elio, the studio's latest
- 9:02animated feature. Released on June 20th, the
- 9:06film earns just $21 million in North America
- 9:10and $14 million overseas. This disappointing
- 9:14performance marks a troubling low for the studio
- 9:17behind beloved films like Toy Story and Finding
- 9:21Nemo. Despite receiving positive reviews, and
- 9:26an A Cinema score, Helios struggled to attract
- 9:29audiences in a competitive market. With production
- 9:33costs estimated at $150 million, the film must
- 9:38rebound quickly to avoid becoming a costly misfire
- 9:41for Pixar and its parent company, Disney. Well,
- 9:46alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the
- 9:49day. And today, our quote comes from the British
- 9:53novelist and playwright, George Bernard Shaw.
- 9:56And he said, And that's a wrap for this morning.
