- 2:21Speaker 3: I try to work on a computer here.
- 2:22Speaker 6: I am really excited. I have our music director, Mauric's
- 2:25Speaker 6: Cone with me this morning.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Maurice, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 2:27Speaker 7: Great to be here.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Do you know anything about computers?
- 2:29Speaker 7: Unfortunately, no, only.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Talk about keys ed keys.
- 2:36Speaker 6: I'm very funny.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Yeah, and I'm gonna need you to host the show.
- 2:40Speaker 5: So while I'm trying to get this computer things straight down. Now, Amanda,
- 2:42Speaker 5: you've been on the show, of course, numerous times in
- 2:44Speaker 5: the past, and you're on here, but murray, someone get
- 2:46Speaker 5: to know you little. But give us your background.
- 2:48Speaker 7: So I am the music directory in conductor of Westernia Symphony.
- 2:51Speaker 7: I'm in my third year here in Charleston, and before
- 2:54Speaker 7: that I lived in Texas and I originally I grew
- 2:57Speaker 7: up in Illinois. I a cellist and sort of found
- 3:03Speaker 7: conducting a little bit late later in life and now
- 3:05Speaker 7: very happy to be making music here.
- 3:07Speaker 5: What was it about the conducting aspect of it that
- 3:10Speaker 5: you that you like so much?
- 3:12Speaker 7: I sort of, you know, I mean, I was a cellist,
- 3:14Speaker 7: and so I played in a lot of orchestras. Uh huh,
- 3:16Speaker 7: And you know, orchestras are just really fascinating organisms. You know,
- 3:22Speaker 7: there's eighty ninety one hundred people on stage and it
- 3:26Speaker 7: all sounds like one thing. And I became really obsessed
- 3:29Speaker 7: with how that happens, how the first trumpet player communicates
- 3:33Speaker 7: with the first violin player, and how the percussionist knows
- 3:36Speaker 7: when to come in to be right on time with
- 3:38Speaker 7: the cellist. And the conductor is really the person responsible
- 3:40Speaker 7: for making all of that happen right, and so I
- 3:42Speaker 7: really became sort of obsessed with figuring out how to
- 3:45Speaker 7: do that.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Do all members of an orchestra want to be a
- 3:49Speaker 5: conductor someday?
- 3:51Speaker 7: I wouldn't say all.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Or it's kind of like actors and that they want
- 3:57Speaker 5: to be a director at some point do that or
- 3:58Speaker 5: they think maybe they can do it better.
- 4:00Speaker 7: I don't mean that way, But absolutely no, I think
- 4:02Speaker 7: I mean, I think there's a natural curiosity about the
- 4:05Speaker 7: job because it's a kind of an odd job. You know,
- 4:08Speaker 7: you're a musician, but you're not supposed to make any sound.
- 4:11Speaker 7: You know, you're supposed to just make it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Never of it that way.
- 4:14Speaker 7: If you're if you're if you're making sound, something has
- 4:16Speaker 7: gotten horribly wrong.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 7: Yeah, So you know you're you're you're a musician, but
- 4:20Speaker 7: your job is really to make it possible for other
- 4:24Speaker 7: people to do their job really well. And it's a
- 4:26Speaker 7: very kind of mysterious thing because the physical gestures and
- 4:30Speaker 7: all of that is are a little bit unintuitive. And
- 4:34Speaker 7: so I think for everybody in anybody in an orchestra,
- 4:37Speaker 7: and really anybody in the audience or anything, there's a
- 4:39Speaker 7: natural curiosity about it. And so I think a lot
- 4:41Speaker 7: of people want to sort of well, like, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 7: I kind of want to try that. I want to
- 4:45Speaker 7: see what all the fuss is like, and I want
- 4:46Speaker 7: to do that, you know. And so I think that
- 4:48Speaker 7: that is is very common, and that's certainly was how
- 4:50Speaker 7: I started. I was sitting in an orchestra thinking like, oh,
- 4:52Speaker 7: that's kind of a weird thing to be doing. I
- 4:53Speaker 7: want to see what that's like, and I fell in
- 4:55Speaker 7: love with it.
- 4:56Speaker 3: What age did did? Did you? Did you start playing music?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh?
- 4:59Speaker 7: I started playing music really young. I was, you know,
- 5:00Speaker 7: three or four years old, but then I started I
- 5:02Speaker 7: didn't start conducting until I was in college.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Were you what they called a prodigy? No, I would.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I mean I was very lucky.
- 5:09Speaker 7: I had great teachers in everything, but I had pretty
- 5:11Speaker 7: normal childhood music.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I have a child musical family, not professionally.
- 5:18Speaker 7: I mean my parents, they they they've been to Westernion
- 5:21Speaker 7: Stiphony concerts several times. They make the trip from Illinois
- 5:24Speaker 7: to see us. They are really happy about it, but
- 5:25Speaker 7: they're not professional musicians.
- 5:26Speaker 8: No.
- 5:27Speaker 5: All right, Amanda, appreciate you bringing him here with us
- 5:30Speaker 5: today and weren't talking him a little bit more, But
- 5:32Speaker 5: I'm going to talk specifically about some things that you
- 5:33Speaker 5: got going on with the same players.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Yeah, we are really excited. So Maurice is actually gonna
- 5:37Speaker 6: be leading in the orchestration of not only the symphony
- 5:40Speaker 6: this Saturday, but with several different local bands. So we're
- 5:43Speaker 6: really excited. We're gonna have the Company Stores, the John
- 5:46Speaker 6: Ingram Band, and Chill lem join on the stage. With
- 5:48Speaker 6: the orchestra this Saturday, October twenty fifth for what we're
- 5:51Speaker 6: calling Listen where You Live. So it's part of our
- 5:54Speaker 6: cmm Marchitects and Engineers Pop series. It is a really
- 5:57Speaker 6: great way to kick off this really fun which incorporates
- 6:01Speaker 6: a lot of things that you don't traditionally think of
- 6:02Speaker 6: when you think of classical music, things like Santa Claus
- 6:05Speaker 6: for our Sounds of the season's concert all we having
- 6:07Speaker 6: a magician come on on the second half of the
- 6:09Speaker 6: season a law as well too, So things that really
- 6:12Speaker 6: are fun. And we're really kicking off with some amazing
- 6:14Speaker 6: tributes to local music.
- 6:15Speaker 5: And I love the fact that, again the last time
- 6:18Speaker 5: you're here, you talked about this whole concept that's Listen
- 6:20Speaker 5: where you Live. Yeah, listen where you live, because again
- 6:23Speaker 5: when you and I talked about this, there can be
- 6:26Speaker 5: that stigma that all the symphonies stuck up and whatever.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I mean, Number one, that's not been my experiencing time
- 6:32Speaker 5: I've ever been there at any any performance. Okay, that's
- 6:35Speaker 5: number one, But number two, this is really going They're
- 6:39Speaker 5: all fun, but this is going to be a really
- 6:41Speaker 5: really fun concert.
- 6:42Speaker 6: It is well, and I'm Matt Jackbert who was a
- 6:44Speaker 6: member of the company stores and a local arrangering composer,
- 6:48Speaker 6: has been working really really hard for the last five six,
- 6:51Speaker 6: seven more than that months right now to get all
- 6:54Speaker 6: of these charts together so the orchestra and these bands
- 6:56Speaker 6: can really combine for what's probably going to be once
- 6:59Speaker 6: in a lifetime moment on stage with the sympathy at
- 7:02Speaker 6: the Clay Center. So it's going to be a not
- 7:04Speaker 6: to miss concert.
- 7:05Speaker 5: What kind of rehearsal has to go in this, Maurice,
- 7:07Speaker 5: I mean, in order to pull this off, because again
- 7:10Speaker 5: you're talking about some very very vastly different styles coming together.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Here, absolutely right, So yeah, there's a lot of rehearsal
- 7:17Speaker 7: and also a lot of sort of before rehearsal preparation. So,
- 7:20Speaker 7: as Amando was saying, you know, one of the both
- 7:23Speaker 7: challenges but also really exciting things about this Weekend's project
- 7:27Speaker 7: is that, you know, these bands don't normally play with
- 7:30Speaker 7: an orchestra, and as an orchestra, we don't normally play
- 7:33Speaker 7: their music, and so we have been working with Matt
- 7:36Speaker 7: Jackford over the last yeah, almost a year now to
- 7:39Speaker 7: basically create custom versions of all of this music so
- 7:43Speaker 7: that we can all play it together. And so that
- 7:45Speaker 7: has been a really big, really sort of big project,
- 7:49Speaker 7: and he's done an amazing job with that, and so
- 7:50Speaker 7: that goes a long way towards you know, really sort
- 7:53Speaker 7: of literally making sure we're all on the same page
- 7:55Speaker 7: and so that we're prepared.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, And even for different musicians outside what you
- 8:02Speaker 5: normally do to come together, it's I mean, it's not
- 8:04Speaker 5: always easy to have two country bands to be able
- 8:07Speaker 5: to play together, or a country or you know, a
- 8:10Speaker 5: gospel group or whatever. It's it's it's about the gelling
- 8:13Speaker 5: of the styles here, I mean absolutely yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 7: And you know, I have to say though, one of
- 8:16Speaker 7: the things that I love so much about this orchestra,
- 8:19Speaker 7: I mean there are many, many things, but our musicians
- 8:22Speaker 7: are not only incredibly talented, they're incredibly flexible and incredibly curious.
- 8:27Speaker 7: I mean, the West Unio Symphony is an orchestra full
- 8:29Speaker 7: of musicians who you know, play Bethoven one night and.
- 8:33Speaker 3: The Blues the next night.
- 8:34Speaker 7: I mean, it's really a group of people that are
- 8:37Speaker 7: so open, sort of open minded, open hearted in the
- 8:40Speaker 7: way they make music and really love learning about all
- 8:44Speaker 7: different types of music. And so you know, there's there
- 8:46Speaker 7: I can't think of a better orchestra to do this project.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Talk about because obviously with your background, you said that
- 8:52Speaker 5: you've been Illinois, Texas all these what part of Texas.
- 8:54Speaker 5: By the way, Dallas go Cowboys. It's right, we won yesterday.
- 8:57Speaker 5: We'd beat Washington.
- 8:58Speaker 9: That's all.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It's all. I don't care for you.
- 9:00Speaker 5: You know, the one one the one season that Dallas
- 9:03Speaker 5: won one game. We Washington in that game.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So the night might take that.
- 9:06Speaker 10: Uh.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But but talk about somebody with your background being in Charleston,
- 9:10Speaker 5: West Virginia.
- 9:11Speaker 3: What was it that appeal to you about being here?
- 9:13Speaker 7: I think the what appealed to me the most is,
- 9:17Speaker 7: you know, the Westernia Symphony and I was, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 7: recruited to come here for the position, and the position
- 9:24Speaker 7: was I mean attractive for so many reasons. I think
- 9:29Speaker 7: the West Menia Symphony is really a real gem in
- 9:32Speaker 7: the state. And one of the things about it that
- 9:34Speaker 7: is so unusual is that it's the sort of it's
- 9:38Speaker 7: a bit of a sweet spot of a size of
- 9:39Speaker 7: orchestra where we are big enough as an as an
- 9:43Speaker 7: institution to do really interesting things and to do big
- 9:45Speaker 7: projects and to be able to, you know, a year
- 9:47Speaker 7: in advance plan something like this kind of concert, which
- 9:50Speaker 7: you need, you know, a certain amount of staff support
- 9:53Speaker 7: and a certain amount of budget and a certain amount of
- 9:54Speaker 7: things to be able to do things like this. But
- 9:56Speaker 7: also we are small enough that we i really feel
- 10:02Speaker 7: sort of right, not just connected to our audience, but
- 10:07Speaker 7: just one of the audience members, you know. I mean
- 10:09Speaker 7: we see people at the grocery store, we see people
- 10:11Speaker 7: at the barbershop. It really feels like we are just
- 10:14Speaker 7: part of the fabric of life here in a way
- 10:17Speaker 7: that sometimes it in a much bigger institution you would
- 10:21Speaker 7: feel a lot more distance.
- 10:22Speaker 5: That's and that's a really good point because I mean
- 10:24Speaker 5: the person that you're seeing playing cello one stage, you
- 10:27Speaker 5: might see a capital market you know exactly. The week before,
- 10:29Speaker 5: you might see a Gomart or something you know exactly.
- 10:32Speaker 7: And so that kind of real sweet spot of sort
- 10:34Speaker 7: of you know, big enough to do really interesting things
- 10:36Speaker 7: at a high level, but small enough to feel like
- 10:39Speaker 7: just one of the guys on the street is is
- 10:42Speaker 7: That's a hard thing to find, and it's really special.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Here talk about the Clay Center.
- 10:46Speaker 7: The Clay Center has been i mean a wonderful partner
- 10:49Speaker 7: of ours for many years, and you know, it's really
- 10:51Speaker 7: amazing to get to perform every weekend in a hall
- 10:56Speaker 7: that was built for the orchestra. You know that that
- 10:58Speaker 7: that hall at the Clay Center was built for the orchestra.
- 11:00Speaker 7: And there are so many orchestras around the country that
- 11:03Speaker 7: are performing in you know, converted vaudeville theaters or you know,
- 11:07Speaker 7: something like that, and you know, credit to them, Like,
- 11:09Speaker 7: you should make music anywhere you can. Music is great,
- 11:11Speaker 7: we should play it all the time. But to get
- 11:14Speaker 7: to have a home where you know, we're in a
- 11:17Speaker 7: hall that is built for an orchestra, that sounds like
- 11:19Speaker 7: it's built for an orchestra, that has the acoustics of
- 11:22Speaker 7: an orchestra, that also just even like little things like
- 11:24Speaker 7: has the backstage set up of an orchestra, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 7: that makes it. You know, all of those things make
- 11:28Speaker 7: such a big difference.
- 11:29Speaker 5: And again I think that's a good point. It was
- 11:31Speaker 5: built for an orchestra. And obviously there are other type
- 11:34Speaker 5: of shows. But any musician that I have ever talked
- 11:37Speaker 5: to of any genre it's ever played the Clay Center,
- 11:39Speaker 5: they love it.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I mean they just love the and.
- 11:41Speaker 5: I'm not a musician, okay, but but but they like
- 11:44Speaker 5: yet well at fifty five.
- 11:46Speaker 3: It's probably never.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Know the interesting listeners. No, I've talked about you know,
- 11:51Speaker 5: my family in the past. My dad is a was
- 11:54Speaker 5: a s was a singery past, but he was an
- 11:57Speaker 5: accomplished gospel singer. I've got my wall at home, I've
- 11:59Speaker 5: got is music hanging up my sister can saying, I'm
- 12:02Speaker 5: literally the only person in the entire family that does
- 12:08Speaker 5: not play music and does not I do.
- 12:10Speaker 3: This is what I do.
- 12:11Speaker 2: We can fix this.
- 12:13Speaker 6: It sounds like you need some cello lessons.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah, well we'll fix this. Aman to talk about the
- 12:19Speaker 3: show again before we let you go.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Yeah, of course. Saturday October twenty fifth, seven thirty pm
- 12:24Speaker 6: at the Clay Center see the West Virginia Sympony on
- 12:26Speaker 6: stage with the Company stores the John Ingram Band, and
- 12:29Speaker 6: I am really excited to feature Sholem as well, one
- 12:32Speaker 6: of our first rap and hip hop artists. I'm not
- 12:34Speaker 6: only in the state, but to be able to be
- 12:36Speaker 6: featured with the symphony, I'm it's going to be really
- 12:38Speaker 6: really amazing. Tickets Bbsymphony dot org. They said it nineteen dollars,
- 12:41Speaker 6: super super affordable for an amazing native music and just

- 12:49Speaker 6: but for the rest of the season. We've got some
- 12:51Speaker 6: amazing symphonic and classical music concerts. We've got some amazing

- 16:29Speaker 5: that saying on the air because I like my job.
- 16:31Speaker 5: But Danny Jones coming up a little bit later. On
- 16:33Speaker 5: the No King's rallies held across America's Saturday, over seven
- 16:37Speaker 5: million people took part, taking to the streets to protest
- 16:41Speaker 5: the policies of the Trump administration. Big one held here
- 16:43Speaker 5: in Charleston started at the at the bird at the
- 16:46Speaker 5: Federal Courthouse, and then why did its way down to
- 16:49Speaker 5: the Capitol. Let's hold it was one of the speakers
- 16:51Speaker 5: of the event in Charleston. He joined us Now, Wes,
- 16:53Speaker 5: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 16:55Speaker 8: Good morning to you, and thank you for having me on.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. Estimate ballpark figure, how many
- 17:01Speaker 5: people do you think were there on Saturday?
- 17:04Speaker 8: Well, I disagree with the newspaper. I was standing up
- 17:08Speaker 8: at the podium and looking out over the crowd, and
- 17:12Speaker 8: the majority of the crowd, because of the heat, were
- 17:15Speaker 8: under the trees in the shade, and I would say
- 17:20Speaker 8: there was at least a thousand, if maybe eleven hundred,
- 17:25Speaker 8: But you know, it was much more than the five
- 17:27Speaker 8: hundred that the newspaper was indicating.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Well, and I actually some of the CV coverage that
- 17:32Speaker 5: I saw of that that's kind of was my takeaway too,
- 17:35Speaker 5: that there because it was an incredibly warm day for October,
- 17:38Speaker 5: and that there were a lot of people under the
- 17:39Speaker 5: trees and everything.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Was it pretty much what you expected it to be
- 17:43Speaker 3: as far as the crowd goes.
- 17:45Speaker 8: Oh, yes, I even expected more because of the many
- 17:50Speaker 8: Facebook posts and people said they were coming. But the
- 17:53Speaker 8: reason the crowd might not have been as large as
- 17:56Speaker 8: what it could have been was the number of rallies
- 18:00Speaker 8: is held across the state. And I think the first
- 18:03Speaker 8: Noteen's Day there were you know, like four or five,
- 18:07Speaker 8: But this time there were rallies held in a lot
- 18:12Speaker 8: of little, smaller towns where those individuals would have come
- 18:16Speaker 8: to Charleston.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I was looking and I read some of the
- 18:19Speaker 5: ones across the state. I mean it was what I mean,
- 18:23Speaker 5: you know, when you had these type of events West,
- 18:26Speaker 5: you know, you're gonna have Charleston, you're gonna have Morgantown,
- 18:28Speaker 5: You're gonna have Marginburger. But it was a lot of
- 18:30Speaker 5: other little towns across West Virginia that kind of surprised me,
- 18:33Speaker 5: to be honest with.
- 18:34Speaker 8: You exactly, I was surprised too. You know, Lewisburg, Princeton, Sayetteville,
- 18:40Speaker 8: and that's just a few from down here. Then you
- 18:42Speaker 8: had much more further north.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Why was this so important to you to take part?
- 18:48Speaker 8: Well, and it's not just to me, but I think
- 18:52Speaker 8: a lot of West Virginian's And then when you think
- 18:55Speaker 8: about the number of rallies and people that turned out
- 18:59Speaker 8: across the country. I think it's what we see as
- 19:05Speaker 8: a degradation and a rooting of our country's founding principles.
- 19:10Speaker 8: And you know, we're supposed to have three equal branches
- 19:13Speaker 8: of government and not a government that complies and caves
- 19:17Speaker 8: into the unconstitutional wins and demands of a president, you know,
- 19:22Speaker 8: not of decentralized government. But it's hard to see a
- 19:26Speaker 8: country we love descending too fascism and authoritative government. And
- 19:33Speaker 8: thinking about it, why can't we have congressional Republicans who
- 19:37Speaker 8: upheld the laws and the constitution, much like the Republicans
- 19:41Speaker 8: did during the Watergate hearings.
- 19:44Speaker 5: You're talking to Wes Soholden, who was one of those
- 19:46Speaker 5: who took part in the No Kings rally and Charleston
- 19:49Speaker 5: on Saturday. What did you you spoke as well? Tell
- 19:53Speaker 5: us what you spoke about, I mean, give us the
- 19:57Speaker 5: warning I should say.
- 19:57Speaker 8: Well, yeah, I really spoke about our elected leaders in Congress.
- 20:04Speaker 8: I spoke about Shelley Moore and Carol Miller or Shelley Capta.
- 20:11Speaker 8: You learn him for a long time. One color Shelley Moore,
- 20:15Speaker 8: And you know, one of the things that they haven't
- 20:19Speaker 8: done and that the people are asking for is that
- 20:22Speaker 8: they hold town hall meetings to talk about the big
- 20:26Speaker 8: bill that they passed. And if they, you know, it
- 20:31Speaker 8: makes the people feel they cannot defend their vote to
- 20:35Speaker 8: raise our healthcare premiums, and we feel they're afraid to
- 20:39Speaker 8: face the music. They refuse to meet with their constituents,
- 20:43Speaker 8: the people they're supposed to represent and fight for, because
- 20:47Speaker 8: they can't explain why they're wanting to cut our healthcare
- 20:52Speaker 8: but give more of our taxes to billionaire donors. And
- 20:57Speaker 8: you know, even Marjorie Taylor Green is telling her constituents
- 21:01Speaker 8: in Georgia that, you know, this is wrong, and I
- 21:05Speaker 8: have to give her credit, and she's telling the truth
- 21:08Speaker 8: while the Republican Party is hiding behind the skirts of
- 21:11Speaker 8: Donald Trump.
- 21:13Speaker 5: It is interesting and it's kind of bizarro world. What
- 21:16Speaker 5: do you think about it, Wes, that Marjorie Taylor Green
- 21:19Speaker 5: is speaking out against the Republican Party and being praised
- 21:22Speaker 5: by Democrats for it.
- 21:24Speaker 8: Well, exactly, And if Carol Mill and Shelley Capsto thought
- 21:28Speaker 8: it was really big, they'd be on the rooftop with
- 21:31Speaker 8: a megaphone bragging about what they did.
- 21:34Speaker 9: But again, you know, I.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Think most of West Virginians, as you know, especially during
- 21:41Speaker 8: a second Trump administration, we feel we're getting sold out.
- 21:46Speaker 8: We're getting stuck with a higher cost of living and
- 21:49Speaker 8: the menish quality of life as the tariffs keep going up.
- 21:54Speaker 8: And you know, if West Virginians have it bad enough,
- 21:58Speaker 8: you know, with our kno me And it just feels
- 22:02Speaker 8: like some of these politicians they don't care about the
- 22:06Speaker 8: working people or even some of the poor people. They
- 22:09Speaker 8: want to turn those into a third world country. And also,
- 22:15Speaker 8: you know, one of the things that I mentioned thinking
- 22:17Speaker 8: about it, Carol Miller, was a deciding vote to pass
- 22:24Speaker 8: Trump's big beautiful bill. And when you think about what
- 22:29Speaker 8: they're doing, they're taking food out of the mouths of
- 22:32Speaker 8: hungry West Virginia children and giving another tax break to
- 22:35Speaker 8: their donors. And sometimes we think of corruption as illegal,
- 22:40Speaker 8: but corruption is really just a betrayal of the public's trust,
- 22:45Speaker 8: and it's the abuse of their public office. And it's
- 22:49Speaker 8: just terrible. And they cannot even descend Trump's tariffs. And
- 22:54Speaker 8: we in West Virginia are feeling the financial burden of
- 22:58Speaker 8: increasing costs for food, housing, and utilities.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Talking to West Holding, I'm sorry, go ahead no, and.
- 23:06Speaker 8: They see, as you know, the rally, and they see
- 23:11Speaker 8: this as a threat to the broken status quo that
- 23:14Speaker 8: varies the voices of the working people beneath their corporate sponsors.
- 23:20Speaker 8: And you know, they want to call its antifa, like
- 23:22Speaker 8: there's an organization. No one at these rallies was paid,
- 23:26Speaker 8: and many people made up their own signs, went and
- 23:30Speaker 8: at signs posted, So you know, if they want to
- 23:33Speaker 8: call us antifa, you know, I think everyone at the
- 23:37Speaker 8: rally felt we are anti fascists and we don't want
- 23:40Speaker 8: the fascist form of government that if you know history,
- 23:44Speaker 8: you know, especially one hundred years ago and the rise
- 23:47Speaker 8: of fascist powers, we see that coming about now. That's
- 23:50Speaker 8: what people are alarmed about. We went true democracy.
- 23:55Speaker 3: That's one of the things that you hear a lot.
- 23:57Speaker 5: And again we're talking to West holding Is people will say,
- 24:00Speaker 5: I mean even I read the comments you know, on
- 24:03Speaker 5: our coverage and the television stations and newspapers and whatever
- 24:05Speaker 5: you're in Charleston about people being paid to be there,
- 24:11Speaker 5: And I mean I know people that were there. I
- 24:14Speaker 5: don't think that you got rich off what you were
- 24:16Speaker 5: paid to be there because you weren't paid, right.
- 24:19Speaker 8: No, I was not paid and no one was, you know,
- 24:23Speaker 8: and you know, people, I had to give them credit,
- 24:26Speaker 8: the small groups of people and organizations that funded this.
- 24:33Speaker 8: You know, they had to put some money together to
- 24:36Speaker 8: get the word out. And I don't know what all
- 24:40Speaker 8: they had to rent, but you know, it took work
- 24:42Speaker 8: of volunteers to put this rally together. And you know,
- 24:47Speaker 8: thinking about patriots patriotism, you know, my forefathers were here
- 24:53Speaker 8: on the tenth generation in West Virginia, but my forefathers
- 24:56Speaker 8: were here in Charleston when you had Fort Lee, and
- 25:01Speaker 8: you know, they were there at Fort Lee with Daniel Boone,
- 25:05Speaker 8: and they fought the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, you know,
- 25:09Speaker 8: the various wars. And I'm a decorated veteran from the
- 25:12Speaker 8: Vietnam era. But we're all wanting to be patriots. And
- 25:16Speaker 8: true patriotism urges us to build an even more substantial
- 25:21Speaker 8: America or West Virginia, where the good things of life
- 25:25Speaker 8: may be shared by more of us, where social injustice
- 25:29Speaker 8: will not be allowed to flourish as it's being done now.
- 25:33Speaker 8: And I feel that there's no King's Day was a
- 25:37Speaker 8: shot heard around the world that the people you know
- 25:40Speaker 8: of the United States support democracy of the people, by
- 25:45Speaker 8: the people and for the people. And I you know,
- 25:48Speaker 8: if you sum it up to me, I feel that's
- 25:50Speaker 8: why people took to the streets. They want the government
- 25:54Speaker 8: of the people, for the people, by the people.

- 26:21Speaker 5: no kings in America. To that, and we got to

- 26:24Speaker 8: You would say what I would say, of course, we

- 26:32Speaker 8: That's what people are fighting against. We don't want to
- 26:35Speaker 8: wanna be king. We want to have a president who

- 29:33Speaker 5: text says Dave Florida guy here. The Democrats have gone
- 29:35Speaker 5: so far off the deep end of the next two
- 29:38Speaker 5: elections will make them irrelevant. After the twenty twenty eight election,
- 29:41Speaker 5: there will be two hundred and seventy five Republican House members,
- 29:43Speaker 5: sixty five Senate members. They are the modern day Whig
- 29:46Speaker 5: Party who disappeared in the eighteen fifties. Text said why
- 29:50Speaker 5: should I help three Kingsgay pay for its insurance? Nobody
- 29:54Speaker 5: helps me, says a text texts says, I wonder if
- 30:00Speaker 5: we could get Texas to send their National Guard to
- 30:02Speaker 5: West Virginia to help people that's been flooded and trying
- 30:05Speaker 5: to get in their homes before winter. Texas talked to
- 30:08Speaker 5: a lot of active military and no King's Riley and
- 30:11Speaker 5: they don't like being sent to cities for political reasons.
- 30:13Speaker 5: They feel trapped in the middle. Would like to know
- 30:16Speaker 5: how far military leaders let Trump go until enough is enough.
- 30:20Speaker 5: This needs to be answered.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Texas.
- 30:23Speaker 5: Millard's own son doesn't like what's going on in our
- 30:25Speaker 5: states and the country, and that says a lot Texas.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Dave Tel Republicans. We can't buy guns with the government
- 30:32Speaker 5: shut down. This is hunting season.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Get to work or resign, says a Texter. Danny Jones
- 30:39Speaker 3: is here here you doing, my friend?
- 30:40Speaker 9: I'm doing fun. Thanks for having me.
- 30:42Speaker 3: All right?
- 30:42Speaker 5: So you were listening to the interview I did with
- 30:44Speaker 5: Wes Holden and you told me to break you in
- 30:46Speaker 5: westco known each other for some time.
- 30:48Speaker 9: Good man good man, your take on what he said.
- 30:52Speaker 9: I think Trump was elected. He was, he got the
- 30:57Speaker 9: most votes. And I'm not reading, but I'm listening to
- 31:02Speaker 9: Kamala Harris's book. It's just sad. It's nothing but a
- 31:07Speaker 9: diary and she offers no solutions. Let me talk about
- 31:12Speaker 9: works salad.
- 31:13Speaker 5: One of the criticisms, and I have not read it,
- 31:16Speaker 5: of the Kamala Harris book, is that uh. And several
- 31:20Speaker 5: people have said this on both sides, said that she
- 31:22Speaker 5: blames everybody but herself.
- 31:24Speaker 9: That's right.
- 31:25Speaker 3: That your takeaway with you.
- 31:27Speaker 9: She has nothing to offer. She has nothing to offer.
- 31:30Speaker 9: It was not a good choice they had. You know,
- 31:32Speaker 9: I've got my choice of uh, and I've set them
- 31:36Speaker 9: before on this station. My choice. You know who you knew?
- 31:42Speaker 9: Really good? Of course, she'd never get married or never
- 31:44Speaker 9: get elected. He's married to a man, not Boodhagete, but
- 31:48Speaker 9: that governor, yes, him, and the Republican governor of Utah,
- 31:54Speaker 9: and Josh Shapiro. That's your guy, Josh, that is my guy.
- 31:59Speaker 9: And if he uh, he couldn't get nominated, not in
- 32:03Speaker 9: this party, not the same party that's putting.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Up that's uh, the socialist who's going to be the
- 32:10Speaker 5: next mayor of New York.
- 32:10Speaker 9: So, well, it's gonna be, it's gonna be. And you know,
- 32:13Speaker 9: I was listening to Georgia Will and uh, he said,
- 32:17Speaker 9: we need this, We need to demonstrate to people what
- 32:21Speaker 9: it's going to be like with a socialist in charge.
- 32:25Speaker 3: But I mean, I understand what did.
- 32:26Speaker 5: I have a lot of respect for George Will, as
- 32:28Speaker 5: I know you do as well, and I understand what
- 32:30Speaker 5: he's saying. But that's kind of a big experiment to
- 32:32Speaker 5: see if it goes wrong on the largest city in America.
- 32:36Speaker 9: Well, you'll have people that will that live there, that
- 32:40Speaker 9: will they'll they'll make the Florida move. They'll they'll keep there,
- 32:47Speaker 9: They'll keep their high end apartment on Park Avenue like
- 32:50Speaker 9: Schwartzman somebody like that. But they'll they'll plant their feet
- 32:54Speaker 9: in a state where there's I mean, in New York,
- 32:58Speaker 9: you pay a lot of taxes. You pay a state taxes,
- 33:02Speaker 9: and you pay a huge amount of city taxes. And
- 33:05Speaker 9: he wants to raise those taxes more in order to
- 33:08Speaker 9: have free buses and and city owned grocery stores. Will
- 33:15Speaker 9: tell yeah, yeah, and and and when you think about
- 33:18Speaker 9: that and more, his frame of reference, are they going
- 33:22Speaker 9: to be any Are there workers going to be any union?
- 33:24Speaker 9: What are they going strike? I mean, it's no, it's
- 33:30Speaker 9: it's it's gonna. It's gonna. They're going to pay a
- 33:34Speaker 9: big price for this.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Did you happen to I texted you last week, but uh,
- 33:39Speaker 5: did you I didn't see it? Okay, that's that's okay.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Did you happen to see that? You didn't see the
- 33:43Speaker 5: town hall?
- 33:44Speaker 10: No?
- 33:44Speaker 9: I wish I would.
- 33:45Speaker 3: It was.
- 33:45Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sure you can find it online or
- 33:47Speaker 5: something's probably available with their wist that it was really
- 33:49Speaker 5: good and talking about the one uh that Cuomo did
- 33:52Speaker 5: on News Nation, I mean, other than Bill O'Reilly.
- 33:55Speaker 3: I mean, and I'm sorry. I I like Bill O'Reilly.
- 33:57Speaker 5: I actually saw him when he came to Charleston with
- 33:59Speaker 5: Dennis meth uh several years ago. O'Reilly probably should not
- 34:04Speaker 5: have been a part of that. I mean, I'll just say.
- 34:06Speaker 9: Okay, so Cuoma was on it.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Yeah, who else was there?
- 34:09Speaker 5: Joe Manchin, Stephen A. Smith, Holman, the borders are I
- 34:15Speaker 5: mean it was there was like ten fifteen people. There
- 34:17Speaker 5: was a couple of podcasters one that's that's kind of
- 34:20Speaker 5: Since Charlie Kirk's death, that's kind of risen up in
- 34:22Speaker 5: that turning point organizable. I don't know, I don't think so, okay,
- 34:27Speaker 5: but there were a I mean it was. But the
- 34:30Speaker 5: problem I think with this Danny and I talked about
- 34:33Speaker 5: this on the on the show last week is everybody had,
- 34:36Speaker 5: even the far left and far right people that were
- 34:40Speaker 5: on it, they were all saying, we've got to turn
- 34:42Speaker 5: down the temperature. We've got to turn and we know this,
- 34:46Speaker 5: but you're preaching to the proverbial choir there because the
- 34:49Speaker 5: people that needed to hear that weren't in in that.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Room, you know.
- 34:54Speaker 9: And now if they were, they blaming on the other side.
- 34:57Speaker 3: That's and and we did see some of that.
- 34:58Speaker 5: I mean, that was the only really heated part of
- 35:01Speaker 5: it was between there were two young gentlemen, one with
- 35:03Speaker 5: Attorney Point Organization and the other who was his counterpart
- 35:07Speaker 5: but to the far left. And and that was really
- 35:11Speaker 5: the only heated discussion that was there. I want to
- 35:13Speaker 5: ask you get back to the no Kings thing though
- 35:15Speaker 5: for a moment. How much of I mean, you were
- 35:18Speaker 5: traveling this weekend, but sure you've read a lot about it,
- 35:21Speaker 5: your take on seven million people across the country about
- 35:25Speaker 5: depending on I mean West kind of took issue with
- 35:28Speaker 5: the number that I guess that some organizations used somewhere
- 35:33Speaker 5: somewhere above five hundred something like that, one thousand control.
- 35:37Speaker 9: Well, I don't know about here because I was in Charleston.
- 35:40Speaker 5: There were I think some published reports said five hundred.
- 35:43Speaker 5: He said closer to eight or nine hundred.
- 35:45Speaker 9: But well, I was in Virginia. I was at vm
- 35:49Speaker 9: I with my son, and I mean, it's not a
- 35:56Speaker 9: big deal. It's it's a collective of people that are
- 36:06Speaker 9: trying to find community and hatred. Really, those people hate Trump.
- 36:17Speaker 9: I mean, I don't know what else, what other words,
- 36:20Speaker 9: I don't know what other word to use. And I'm
- 36:23Speaker 9: no fan, and neither of you. I mean, I didn't
- 36:27Speaker 9: vote for him.
- 36:27Speaker 5: What do you think about Mike Johnson's statement that they
- 36:29Speaker 5: should have called those they should have called these hate
- 36:32Speaker 5: America rallies that they.
- 36:33Speaker 9: Hate no because he needs to pipe down. That's something. Look,
- 36:38Speaker 9: I'm a talk show guy. I say stuff like that,
- 36:42Speaker 9: but he's a speaker of the House. It's not a Hey,
- 36:46Speaker 9: I take that back. It was not a hate hate
- 36:49Speaker 9: America rally. They don't like Donald Trump. They just don't
- 36:53Speaker 9: like him, and he he he strokes it, he lights
- 36:59Speaker 9: him up, be gas likes them.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Did you see the video, the AI video that he released.
- 37:04Speaker 5: It was him as a top gun pilot and they
- 37:08Speaker 5: were playing danger Zone and it was it was AI
- 37:11Speaker 5: generated of him and the plane said King Trump on
- 37:15Speaker 5: the side, and of him dropping feces on the protesters.
- 37:20Speaker 9: He's a draft doctor. I mean, why what president would
- 37:24Speaker 9: do that? And what do you him putting those pictures
- 37:28Speaker 9: up in the White House, And I mean, I guess
- 37:30Speaker 9: this is funny to some people. Put an auto pen
- 37:33Speaker 9: where Biden belongs. He took down General Millery's picture in
- 37:37Speaker 9: the Pentagon. He took away of security. I mean what
- 37:42Speaker 9: I see he makes it worse because he plays into it.
- 37:50Speaker 5: I mean, knock out a couple of texts. Here, Texas,
- 37:52Speaker 5: there's nothing wrong. Everything's great. Prices aren't high, good paying
- 37:55Speaker 5: jobs are available left and right. I actually had to
- 37:56Speaker 5: turn down three six figure jobs on my way to
- 37:59Speaker 5: work this morning. The border's closed. Nobody does drugs anymore,
- 38:02Speaker 5: Autism has been eliminated, diseases no longer exists, so no
- 38:05Speaker 5: need for vaccines. Argentina getting forty billion dollars while Snap
- 38:08Speaker 5: is going to run out of November, America is back, baby.
- 38:11Speaker 3: A little sarcasm. Little sarcasm there.
- 38:13Speaker 9: Well, the border is closed, he said, the borders closed.
- 38:18Speaker 9: The borders closed. I mean, he said, what he's going
- 38:21Speaker 9: to do there? They take up for Chicago for a minute.
- 38:27Speaker 9: I go to Chicago, ocase and well, just my son
- 38:31Speaker 9: Andrew and I'll take a train, we'll go up there
- 38:33Speaker 9: and spend the night, get off and spend the day
- 38:37Speaker 9: walk around. And most of Chicago's really beautiful and if
- 38:45Speaker 9: you've got time to go to a Cubs game, that's
- 38:47Speaker 9: the best deal around. But there's an area there called Inglewood,
- 38:55Speaker 9: and that's where the problems are. And that's the problem.
- 38:59Speaker 9: That's where it gets all. If you if you could
- 39:01Speaker 9: ever get Mike Tobin on here from Fox, he could
- 39:05Speaker 9: tell you it's that's most of Chicago's sign.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Well, and I don't think that's unlike a lot of cities.
- 39:13Speaker 5: I've got, you know, friends that live in Pittsburgh, for example,
- 39:15Speaker 5: and there are certain The problem with Pittsburgh is the
- 39:17Speaker 5: problems are downtown. You know where everybody is. But I
- 39:20Speaker 5: mean it's it's no different than any any other city.
- 39:23Speaker 3: I mean it's not.
- 39:24Speaker 5: I mean, there are good in Charleston and speaking of
- 39:28Speaker 5: city in West Virginia, they're good and the bad Sex

- 39:57Speaker 5: Those people were respectful and considerate of their community and
- 40:01Speaker 5: Uh and the way they are perceived, unlike magas who
- 40:04Speaker 5: trash everywhere they are and everything they touch, even the government.
- 40:11Speaker 5: I don't I don't know if that's true or yeah,
- 40:14Speaker 5: Tex says, So what do the wealthy class make?
- 40:17Speaker 3: I think?
- 40:17Speaker 5: COVID revealed that the most important people in the economy
- 40:20Speaker 5: are This country would be better off without so much
- 40:22Speaker 5: corporate welfare I bet taxes would come down too without
- 40:25Speaker 5: so much corporate welfare.
- 40:28Speaker 9: What do they mean corporate welfare? What I want? I
- 40:31Speaker 9: want a better definition of that.
- 40:33Speaker 5: Okay, all right, texture you have an assignment, uh Tex,
- 40:36Speaker 5: says speak Speaker of the House. Mike Johnson is a
- 40:38Speaker 5: coward protecting a pedophile. Carol Miller and Riley Moore should
- 40:42Speaker 5: urge Johnson to seat And I'm still not quite sure
- 40:46Speaker 5: how to pronounce the particular congress person so they can
- 40:49Speaker 5: release the files.
- 40:51Speaker 9: You know, if if they don't open this government by December,
- 40:58Speaker 9: the sub of these for the Affordable Care Act expire,
- 41:06Speaker 9: so the extra sub that's what they're fighting for.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Do you do you think it's not gonna be till December?
- 41:13Speaker 3: Do you think I don't know?
- 41:15Speaker 9: I'm I'm gonna take a plane trip on twelfth of December,
- 41:21Speaker 9: and I'm I'm not planning on it. I mean, I mean,
- 41:26Speaker 9: will you tell me how this thing breaks? It's gonna
- 41:29Speaker 9: take the only thing that would break it is if
- 41:33Speaker 9: the Republicans evoked the nuclear option. And I don't think
- 41:38Speaker 9: they've got the vote, in other words, to change the
- 41:41Speaker 9: rules of the Senate. Mitch McConnell won't vote for it.
- 41:47Speaker 9: Rand Paul won't even vote for the budget. So that's
- 41:52Speaker 9: two votes down.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Yes, So an interview he was on one of the
- 41:56Speaker 5: Sunday morning shows. I think it was on this week
- 41:58Speaker 5: yesterday Rand Paul was. I think it's what I saw
- 41:59Speaker 5: him yesterday.
- 42:01Speaker 9: Yeah, he won't even vote for the budget because of
- 42:04Speaker 9: our debt is so high.
- 42:06Speaker 5: Well, and like he said, and I may get the
- 42:09Speaker 5: figures mixed up here the impasse between Republicans and Democrats.
- 42:13Speaker 5: One wants to raise it and I forget what feary
- 42:15Speaker 5: he used five trillion, the other wants to raise it
- 42:16Speaker 5: eight trillion. Nobody's taking it seriously.
- 42:20Speaker 9: Well, nobody talks about it. And our kids are going
- 42:23Speaker 9: to pay for it. Yeah, one of my kids have
- 42:25Speaker 9: paid for Uh.
- 42:27Speaker 5: Tex says, uh, Danny, you believe the government? I have
- 42:30Speaker 5: a beach to sell you prime interstate location two Sex. Well,
- 42:34Speaker 5: what you say, I guess you said, do you believe
- 42:36Speaker 5: the government?
- 42:38Speaker 9: On what? I don't remember?
- 42:40Speaker 3: What Tex says.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Corporate welfare is the government's financial assistance, subsidies, tax breaks,
- 42:45Speaker 5: and other favorable policies given a private businesses and specific industries. Okay,

- 46:40Speaker 9: Well, I mean, that's a little bit overdone, but it's true.
- 46:45Speaker 9: They didn't have a primary. Nancy Pelosi wanted one, you know,
- 46:51Speaker 9: to have a primary to pick a success for Biden.
- 46:54Speaker 9: They couldn't. They might have won the election, but not.
- 46:56Speaker 5: With her text says they don't want Trump, who was
- 46:59Speaker 5: Democratic elected by the majority of us both electoral and
- 47:02Speaker 5: popular in every swing state. You people need to grow
- 47:05Speaker 5: up and deal with it. He's leftist. Temper chanters only
- 47:07Speaker 5: happen when a Republican wins the White House.
- 47:10Speaker 9: I don't think i'd use temper tempters and Donald Trump
- 47:14Speaker 9: in the same sentence.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree with that, right. So you made
- 47:18Speaker 3: a trip this weekend.
- 47:20Speaker 9: I went to VMI Virginia Military Institute to see my
- 47:24Speaker 9: my son, whom I get emotional thinking him. I'm so
- 47:28Speaker 9: proud of him, and he's he's a freshman there, and
- 47:36Speaker 9: they had a football game and the first game that
- 47:40Speaker 9: West Virginia University plays next year is against vm I.
- 47:45Speaker 9: And if they don't beat vm I, and it's time
- 47:48Speaker 9: for Rodbergers to go there.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Not good? I mean what no, I mean, simply put.
- 47:58Speaker 9: I mean they have a real nice tail gate thing
- 48:00Speaker 9: going on, a lot of fellowship. You know, it's right
- 48:05Speaker 9: next to WNL watching Lee and it's got a big
- 48:10Speaker 9: statue of George Catlet Marshall, Marshall Plan. But to go
- 48:14Speaker 9: down the museum and there's Stonewall Jackson stuff towards and
- 48:20Speaker 9: you know General all the general that's set Georgia on fire,
- 48:28Speaker 9: what was his name? Set the whole state on fire? Sherman,
- 48:33Speaker 9: he set v in my own fire and There's still
- 48:36Speaker 9: a few old buildings over there, but most of them
- 48:39Speaker 9: are new, so it was. It was quite an experience,
- 48:47Speaker 9: and I just I can't get over being around my son.
- 48:53Speaker 3: He's uh, there's no good things down there. He should
- 48:55Speaker 3: be very very proud.
- 48:56Speaker 5: I am Uh Texas Uh Kamala did not picked Shapiro
- 49:01Speaker 5: because he's Jewish. Look at how evil and anti Semitic
- 49:03Speaker 5: the Democratic Party has gone of the last five years.
- 49:06Speaker 5: What happened to never again? They are why millions like
- 49:09Speaker 5: myself walked walked away from these loons.
- 49:12Speaker 9: I think she didn't. That couldn't That could have been
- 49:14Speaker 9: why she didn't pick him. I think he would have
- 49:16Speaker 9: vushown her. I mean, he's because he's so far superior
- 49:21Speaker 9: to me to be of any of those candidates. Josh Shapiro.
- 49:27Speaker 18: Uh.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Text, you ask what corporations were being held receiving the
- 49:32Speaker 5: corporate welfare as a textas said, Texture responds, Amazon, Walmart,
- 49:36Speaker 5: oil industries, corporate agriculture, just to name a few. They
- 49:38Speaker 5: all have favorable policies and subsidies and tax breaks.
- 49:42Speaker 9: I'm not sorry, I don't. I don't get that. I
- 49:45Speaker 9: don't I'm not I'm not convinced Walmart, walmartt's tax, federal tax.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Jay, you want to weigh in on this, what's the question?
- 49:57Speaker 5: We were talking about corporate welfare? And mixture said Walmart
- 50:01Speaker 5: and Amazon and a couple of these as examples of
- 50:04Speaker 5: corporate welfare.
- 50:05Speaker 9: I can be educated, by the way, but I Walmart
- 50:09Speaker 9: doesn't get federal tax breaks.
- 50:11Speaker 10: I mean, give me specific examples to the text over
- 50:13Speaker 10: here's I know what they're complaining about. Look, if you
- 50:16Speaker 10: don't have a realized income on certain projects, certain p
- 50:19Speaker 10: and ls, whatever, you're not going to pay taxes on it.
- 50:21Speaker 10: And that's what they complain about, no realized income. Well,
- 50:24Speaker 10: some years that doesn't happen.
- 50:26Speaker 9: Well Trump Trump did that, He pointed that out. And Trump,
- 50:30Speaker 9: when you have when you take a loss in one
- 50:33Speaker 9: of your companies, shouldn't have to pay taxes and you
- 50:36Speaker 9: probably shouldn't.
- 50:37Speaker 10: That's why Elizabeth Warren wanted to go after everybody's net
- 50:40Speaker 10: worth because they weren't posting income in a certain year.
