- 1:00said. I played 82 games.

- 1:04Where you got to go? Before I told you Giant fans,

- 3:18downs when it comes to some of the board stuff and maybe some
- 3:21of the other stuff. But again, we're very happy to
- 3:24be here. It's been a crazy, crazy week.
- 3:27I've been dealing with being sick and it's been a big
- 3:30problem. Tonsillitis is no joke.
- 3:33I'm on steroids, I'm on antibiotics.
- 3:35I'm on 2 antibiotics now, almost 2000 milligrams a day and it's
- 3:40been horrible. It's a horrible feeling.
- 3:42My ears have been popping all day, so I've I haven't never
- 3:46been in a in a position like this where I'm not sure which
- 3:49ear is going to work or both of them going to be working
- 3:52throughout the show. So I'm I'm kind of like deaf in
- 3:54one ear. I even on my my left ear.
- 3:57I'm having problems hearing right now, but nevertheless, I'm
- 3:59happy to be here. Jabba, how are you?
- 4:01How was your weekend? It was good did some work and
- 4:07getting ready for the the College World Series, which will
- 4:12kind of fall out of perfect time because you'll be gone and you
- 4:14don't really care about college baseball.
- 4:16So my Forte in my backyard and so got some stuff done.
- 4:21We got we got goodies tigers in there and so we're going to try
- 4:26and work on getting him down here to maybe get us a little
- 4:31LSU love. And so just looking forward to
- 4:34that. It was a nice weekend, kind of
- 4:35chill. And even though it's only 50
- 4:38minutes away, it's just sometimes nice just to get out
- 4:40of town and hang on. And I, I don't know about you
- 4:42guys, but I sleep great in hotels, like fantastic.
- 4:46I didn't, I don't think I made it to 11:00 the whole time I was
- 4:51there. I was like, turn it down to as
- 4:53low as it can go, order some food, watching sports.
- 4:58So yeah, it was. It was, All in all, a good.
- 5:00I cannot go away and sit in a hotel room and, and I get bored
- 5:04in a hotel room and I have to have the AC up completely.
- 5:08I, if I'm sleeping in a place that I don't know of because I,
- 5:12I like to cover myself with two or three blankets.
- 5:15I, I do not like hotels for one reason, because if I'm in a
- 5:19hotel, I know I'm away and I want to party.
- 5:22I want to have a good time. And by the way, you say I don't
- 5:25like the World Series. I just don't watch it every
- 5:28single year. It depends on who's in it and,
- 5:32and, and the competition in the World Series.
- 5:34Obviously it's the two best teams in college baseball and
- 5:37LSU is always there and Nick is a graduate.
- 5:40He played for the LSU Tigers. So I could see why he's excited.
- 5:44It just obviously here in New York, there's not many great
- 5:48baseball teams, especially college baseball teams.
- 5:50The last one to go to the College World Series that we
- 5:53know Stony Brook is Stony Brook. And how long ago was that?
- 5:56So it does, yeah. It doesn't usually happen here.
- 5:59So it's not a big story. It's not one of those where
- 6:02downtown. Yeah, it's it's way different
- 6:05too, because you got to remember it's always been here.
- 6:07So it's something even if you, even if Nebraska hasn't been in
- 6:11it since me in 2005. It's still big, so baseball is
- 6:16big over there. Nebraska.
- 6:17Yeah, it's humongous just because it's here every year and
- 6:20you know, it's a lot of generational things that come
- 6:25with the World Series. And it's a little different
- 6:28because it used to be at the zoo at Rosenblatt.
- 6:31Now it's like downtown, closer to the airport and more hotels
- 6:35and stuff like that. So it's got a little bit kind of
- 6:40skewed in the fact it's more corporate than it was with,
- 6:43well, I used to be at the zoo. It's.
- 6:45Always going to be corporate because the.
- 6:47Corporate it was. It was never that way when it
- 6:49was at this. Of course, of course.
- 6:51And, and it's changed even here in New York, everybody thinks,
- 6:53oh, this New York is is a baseball town because we have
- 6:57the Yankees here and the Mets are playing great baseball.
- 6:59But it really, it really isn't. It's really a basketball town.
- 7:03And with the Knicks, we're playing as well as they have
- 7:06this season. It's coming back to that.
- 7:08But believe it or not, the biggest sport here in New York
- 7:12is basketball. Then I would probably swing
- 7:15towards football. Then I would say then I, I don't
- 7:20even know. Now I baseball is it's a flip
- 7:23flop because the Rangers are very popular right now.
- 7:26They've always been popular here in New York.
- 7:28And then there's the Yankees, because the Yankees are expected
- 7:31to win. They're expected to make the
- 7:32playoffs every single year, but they haven't won since 2009.
- 7:36And until the Yankees win another championship, we're
- 7:39always going to be looking at, hey, Arthen, even though the
- 7:42Knicks haven't won a championship in like 50 years,
- 7:45you're still going to look, hey, I'd rather see the Knicks go to
- 7:48the Finals than the Yankees. I'd rather see the Knicks go to
- 7:51the Finals, except probably more than the Rangers or the
- 7:55Islanders. So it's it's interesting, but
- 7:58sports is big here. When we win.
- 8:00The problem with New York sports is we don't really win.
- 8:03So it's been a huge problem. The last time a a New York team
- 8:07has won a championship was 2011 and that was the Giants.
- 8:12That was the last time a New York team won a championship.
- 8:15So it's a long, long time. You're talking about over 10
- 8:19years. That's it's about 14 years since
- 8:22a New York team won a championship.
- 8:24And that's crazy because we live in a city where our teams are
- 8:28like life here. You think about the Knicks, if,
- 8:30if you know anything, think about New York fans, they bleed
- 8:34blue, orange, they bleed it. The Ranger fans bleed white, red
- 8:40and and blue. And then and the giant fans and
- 8:43even the Jet fans, the unbelievably sucky New York
- 8:47Jets. The Jet fans are the biggest
- 8:49fans in the world. They, they, they live and sleep
- 8:52New York Jets football throughout the season.
- 8:54That's why there's a million podcasts as a as a matter of
- 8:57fact, the two biggest podcast right now in the country, two
- 9:02biggest ones are New York podcasts.
- 9:05So which sports? So it's it's really crazy how
- 9:09New York sports still, even though it's so damn bad, they're
- 9:13still very likable by the fans over here because.
- 9:16They support. Their sports.
- 9:17Nathan Nathan brought up something good.
- 9:19What about the New York liberty they've won?
- 9:21Yes, last year they won, but that again and I I'm not going
- 9:25to take that away from them either.
- 9:26I, I forgot about the Liberty. The Liberty, which it's just the
- 9:30WNBA is growing right now. Right now it's starting to
- 9:33obviously grow with Caitlin Clark and obviously Reese.
- 9:37So you're seeing all this different opportunities that the
- 9:41WNBA is going to grow. And yeah, the Liberty did win.
- 9:44So I guess if you want to say the Liberty were the last and
- 9:47also the Red Bulls, they won too.
- 9:49They won a couple of years ago too.
- 9:50So if you want to put, I'm talking about the four major
- 9:54sports, a New York team has not won since 2011.
- 9:58That's what I meant. Major sports.
- 10:00WNBA is not a major sport right now.
- 10:03And obviously we all know that soccer or European football is
- 10:07not big as much as it should be here in the United States.
- 10:10So that's just what I'm saying. Again, I'm not taking it away
- 10:14from anybody or any fan out there that's going to say,
- 10:16Errol, you suck. How could you?
- 10:18How could you not support the Liberty?
- 10:20I support the Liberty. I'm supporting women's
- 10:23basketball as I'm wearing a Caitlin Clark Fever jersey, 1/3
- 10:27jersey, which is almost impossible to get.
- 10:30I actually am wearing it tonight so it's a beautiful jersey and
- 10:33I'm supporting WWNBA basketball so I know what everybody's going
- 10:37to say. You can't say anything that I
- 10:39don't support the women's women's games because I do.
- 10:42Let's get into some basketball because that's the story right
- 10:44now. The NBA Finals is tied 11 after
- 10:48the Pacers won game one and the Thunder won Game 2.
- 10:51The Pacers won game 1111 to 110 on a game-winning shot by Tyrese
- 10:56Halberdon with 0.3 seconds left. That was the only time the
- 11:00Pacers had the lead in the game. The Thunder led the Pacers by 15
- 11:05points with 942 remaining in the game, just like the Knicks, and
- 11:09the Pacers went on a 31 to 16 run for the rest of the game.
- 11:13Despite the loss, Shy got 38 points in his NBA Finals debut,
- 11:18third most in NBA history. In a Finals debut, the Thunder
- 11:22dominated the Pacers 123 to one O 7 to win Game 2.
- 11:26The Pacers had seven different players with double digit
- 11:30points, but no players over 20 points.
- 11:33Shy had 34 points in Game 2 and now has 72 points combined in
- 11:38game game one and Game 2, the most in NBA history.
- 11:44Shy Alexander is one of the great offensive players we've
- 11:46seen in a very, very long time for the NBA.
- 11:49The NBA should be very excited for the growth of this young kid
- 11:52and where the NBA could be going with some of the young stars
- 11:56that they have. You saw it, you got a chance to
- 11:57see a couple of them. Anthony Edwards, as much as
- 12:00people don't like how he plays in the playoffs, he's a special
- 12:03player. Shy Alexander, we're watching
- 12:06it. He is a special player.
- 12:07Tyrese Halberton, a lot of Knick fans don't like him.
- 12:10He is a special player. Jalen Brunson, who's been
- 12:14sensational since he's gone to the Knicks and taken over as the
- 12:17starting point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, has been
- 12:19sensational and he's a great young player right now for the
- 12:22NBA. There are quite a few really
- 12:25good guards that we have just mentioned right there.
- 12:28Those all, all those guys are guards 2 or once.
- 12:32And that's what the NBA is starting to deliver right now.
- 12:34We're getting a chance to see. In the 90s, it was really about
- 12:37the bigs. It was about the power forwards
- 12:39and it was about obviously the centers.
- 12:42That's what they built around. You talk about Hakeem Olajuwon,
- 12:44Patrick Ewing, David Robertson, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal,
- 12:47and on and on and on and on. It's not like that anymore.
- 12:50And if you're not a big that can't shoot the the NBA is not
- 12:55going to catch up to that kind of player anymore.
- 12:58That's why Mitchell Robertson is a, to me, A1 dimensional player.
- 13:02That's the way teams are going to look at him.
- 13:04Shy Alexander is what makes Shy Alexander so freaking special is
- 13:09what he does on the basketball court.
- 13:11We talk about Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, guys that could
- 13:15play back and forth, defense and offense.
- 13:18Shia Alexander doesn't hideaway from it.
- 13:20As much as we've seen Tyrese Halliburton offensively and
- 13:23defensively over the last couple of series, how good he's been.
- 13:26He falls apart in certain games. He can't defend certain guys
- 13:31because he's not good enough defensively.
- 13:33Shia Alexander, no matter who's standing in front of him, what
- 13:36guard is standing in front of him, he's going to be able to
- 13:38defend against him because he's a shutdown defender.
- 13:41That's what's special about Shia Alexander.
- 13:43And Shia Alexander, with what we've seen with OKC and what the
- 13:47Thunder like to do, they like to run the offense through him.
- 13:50But when Shy Alexander is getting double team and
- 13:53sometimes moving around the perimeter, he opens up the
- 13:56court, he opens up the accord for guys like Dort and guys are
- 14:01like Williams, guys like that that can open and spread the
- 14:04offense up. Where some of these young
- 14:06players that they have right now are showing you why they've been
- 14:10one of the best teams in all of the NBA really for the last two
- 14:13years. But watching these two games and
- 14:16I know everybody was shocked. We were doing our show last week
- 14:19on Thursday, game one and, and where how it happened.
- 14:23This is the same thing that happened to the New York Knicks,
- 14:26same thing that happened to the Cleveland Cavaliers when they
- 14:29get when Hal Burton came back and won the game and Hal Burton
- 14:32didn't even win the game when he hit that Nick crushing, you
- 14:35know, dance around the the basketball court when he beat
- 14:38the Knicks, it was in overtime when he beat it, but never the
- 14:41Nevertheless, the Knicks had a 14 point lead with 2 1/2 minutes
- 14:45left of the game and Hal Burton and Naismith came back on this
- 14:49display of just unbelievable offense.
- 14:52The Pacers need to be slowed down.
- 14:55And what did OK C do in that game and game number 2, they
- 15:00slowed them down. And Tyrese Halperton early in
- 15:03the game made a lot of mistakes. A guy that doesn't really make
- 15:06passing blunders. He made four or five mistakes
- 15:09going into the going all the way into the fourth quarter.
- 15:12When Halpernon is not making mistakes in the game, he's
- 15:15keeping his team close in the game.
- 15:18And when they're doing that and they're within 9 to 10 points,
- 15:21the Pacers are dangerous team. But really in game #2 it was
- 15:26dominated by OKC. They didn't give him a breath.
- 15:29The Pacers had no way of breathing from the first quarter
- 15:33all the way to the fourth quarter.
- 15:35The only reason why the game was even close is because the OKC
- 15:38Thunder, with six minutes left of the game, took all their
- 15:42starters out. They were up at at one point in
- 15:45the fourth quarter by 20 something points.
- 15:47So it it's not like the game was even close.
- 15:50And I predicted this to happen on Sunday night because I do
- 15:54believe the OK C Thunder is a much better, more talented team,
- 15:59the Pacers. But again, it doesn't matter
- 16:01about talent. It matters who wants it more,
- 16:03who's going to go out there and make the shots, make the big
- 16:06plays. And that's the, that's something
- 16:08that we could say about Rick Carlisle and the way he coaches.
- 16:11When his team doesn't play well one game, the next game they
- 16:15transition and play a different style of basketball.
- 16:18I expect to see that in game #3 and and again, going back to
- 16:22Alexander, Shy Alexander is been the best player in the league
- 16:26besides Yokich all season long. It hasn't even been close.
- 16:30Yokich I believe was the MVP of the league.
- 16:32But the NBA don't like to really give it to back-to-back guys,
- 16:35especially guys as good as Shy Alexander.
- 16:37That some people could say that Shy was up, should have been up
- 16:40for the MVP last year. What makes this so fun to watch
- 16:44is Shy Alexander is not quoting himself after the game that he's
- 16:48the best player. He's not going out there after
- 16:50the game and say and complimenting himself and
- 16:53patting himself on the back. He says I wouldn't be here today
- 16:57and we wouldn't have won this game if everybody wasn't playing
- 17:00at the top level of their game. That's what's special about Shy
- 17:03Alexander. That's what you expect from your
- 17:05superstar players, that you're going to back those players,
- 17:08your teammates out there, and when you're losing, you take
- 17:12responsibility for losing those games.
- 17:16And shy's not going to say that I was off in the game because
- 17:19Shy Alexander's going to give you 30 to 35 points game.
- 17:22That's the type of player he is, that's how talented he is.
- 17:25And that's how to me the dominant player he can be.
- 17:29He could be week in and day in and day out and game in and game
- 17:32out. I also say this Tyrese
- 17:35Halliburton at the end of the game.
- 17:37It to me shows me why a lot of teams do not like him after the
- 17:43game. And and by the way, I don't want
- 17:45to hear what his father has to say.
- 17:47I obviously the NBA is not interviewing his father.
- 17:50But there he was on a bunch of different, you know, radio shows
- 17:54after the game on Monday. And he was saying like, oh, my
- 17:58son, didn't you know, he wasn't getting the calls this, this and
- 18:01that. It's always an excuse for the
- 18:03Halliburton's. The problem with Tyrese
- 18:06Halliburton is he needs to take a step back.
- 18:08He needs to hear himself out and realize when you're winning,
- 18:12you're going to get all the compliments because you're the
- 18:14superstar. When you're losing, you got to
- 18:16take responsibility for your bad game.
- 18:19Your reason why your team lost is because you didn't have a
- 18:21good game. You didn't do what you were
- 18:23supposed to do like you did in game one when you needed to hit
- 18:26the big shot. That was why you lost.
- 18:28The GameStop blaming other people, and he didn't really
- 18:31blame anybody, but it seems like he doesn't want to take
- 18:34responsibility. Speed.
- 18:35And that to me is the problem right now, and I think it's
- 18:39going to affect this team, win or lose in this series, this
- 18:44team to grow and be an NBA champion.
- 18:46Yeah, I'm not going to say Tyrese Halliburton is quote UN
- 18:48quote playing with fire yet, but it's definitely something that
- 18:51is heating up a little where you don't want to turn into the
- 18:53Anthony Edwards syndrome of what you happened last round.
- 18:55Anthony Edwards Yeah, yeah, he had some weird comments
- 18:57throughout the 1st 2 series, but was still for the most part
- 19:00playing well. And besides that one Warriors
- 19:02game then all of a sudden he let it affect him against the OKC
- 19:04Thunder. He has three God awful games and
- 19:06Minnesota's eliminating 5 S Halliburton cannot let that
- 19:08happen because like you said, they had a good game plan for
- 19:11him in Game 2. Much more suffocated defense
- 19:13even against even with some of the backups when OKC was subbing
- 19:16out, they were playing great defense on Halliburton.
- 19:18They didn't change the game plan on him one bit and it affected
- 19:22the rest of the team. There are enough role players
- 19:23like you were saying, the seven different scores.
- 19:25They have. That did well enough in Game 2.
- 19:27They played their game enough. Obi topping at a bad game after
- 19:30he had a great game one. But every other role player with
- 19:32the Indiana Pacers played well, and a lot of times when you have
- 19:35those types of successes, it does well.
- 19:37I had a lot of fights with somebody I'm not going to
- 19:39mention. He's probably listening to the
- 19:40show about Naismith and he says that Naismith is a chip piece to
- 19:44trade for a superstar. That he was telling me on the
- 19:47phone that you can use Naismith and maybe one or two other guys
- 19:52on that team to to land a guy like Giannis.
- 19:55And I said, you're nuts when you're trying to compare.
- 19:57Let's say you look at Naismith. Are you going to compare them to
- 20:00Mikhail Bridges? Are you going to compare them to
- 20:02OG and Anobi? Not a chance in hell as.
- 20:05Who does Naismith has been over the last what, year and a half?
- 20:09Because last year he didn't really pick up his game until
- 20:11the second-half of the season. Honestly, Naismith still has a
- 20:15lot more to prove himself. And remember, this guy wasn't a
- 20:18high prestige draft pick like guys like Mikhail Bridges when
- 20:22he came from Villanova, even OG and Anobi, the player that he
- 20:25was when he came out of college. So I, I know a lot of people
- 20:29want to say, well, Naismith is a chip that you could trade for
- 20:31Giannis. I think you're nuts.
- 20:33He's a good player. He's the second chip.
- 20:35In the deal, not the first chip, the.
- 20:36First chip, I think he's a third dairy chip maybe.
- 20:38Maybe even the first chip has to be Siakam.
- 20:40If you're going to trade anything with any type of
- 20:42Giannis deal with the Pacers, it has to be start with Siakam.
- 20:45There's no other You wanted to say you want to use those trade
- 20:48chips for something else like a second tier star.
- 20:50Yeah, you could new Nemhart, NEMSA, something like that for a
- 20:52second tier star. Definitely not for Giannis, but
- 20:54going back to the NBA Finals game, you saw in game one of the
- 20:58Nuggets series against with OK C, them collapse in similar
- 21:01fashion. Aaron Gordon hits the buzzer
- 21:03beater, they fall apart and what do they do in Game 2?
- 21:05They bounce back right away. That's a different sense of
- 21:07adversity. I think this OK C team has,
- 21:09which is a good thing to really see for a young team.
- 21:12You saw that happen obviously with the Celtics and they lost
- 21:14Game 2 to the Knicks class in a similar fashion.
- 21:16The Knicks did it in game one versus the Pacers.
- 21:18They never really recovered besides that one comeback that
- 21:20they had in game three. They never recovered to that
- 21:22same extent. OK, CS locked in in a different
- 21:25way, and you see it with the defensive side of the ball
- 21:27really making a difference. If they're going to win, they're
- 21:29going to win with their defense as as indicated.
- 21:31And they never gave up that game plan, no matter who they rotated
- 21:34out of the game. Game one, you saw Rick Carlisle
- 21:36in that comeback sell out all 5 starters.
- 21:39That's the problem also with Rick.
- 21:40Rick Carlisle, he was a defensive minded coach.
- 21:43Now he's transitioned. His team is more of a prolific
- 21:47offensive team. They like to go up and down the
- 21:49court. He changed his style of coaching
- 21:51for the players that he has on his roster and they're not the
- 21:54defense that everybody thought they were going to be.
- 21:57Remember when Rick Carlisle went there?
- 21:59They were a completely different defense until they brought in
- 22:01Tyrese Halliburton, when they made that trade for Tyrese
- 22:04Halpern. That whole defense and the style
- 22:06that Rick Carl likes to run his defense, Drew, make a mistake
- 22:09and bring the ball up and down the court.
- 22:11It's not like that anymore. They have to play that high pace
- 22:14game and the problem is OKC is as young as the Pacers are and
- 22:19they could play that speed pace game with them, something that
- 22:22the Knicks couldn't do and that's why the Knicks had
- 22:24problems against them in the fourth.
- 22:25Quarter. A lot of these veteran coaches
- 22:27that do it end up getting fired in very strange circumstances,
- 22:29as we've seen this year, as we've seen with Carlisle in the
- 22:31past. I don't think anyone was
- 22:32thinking when Mavericks fired Carlisle at the time that it was
- 22:35a good move. But he had to change his
- 22:36coaching style to a certain extent in order to do that, to
- 22:39adapt with some of these teams that are much more talent driven
- 22:42and a team that has built up this amazing perimeter defense
- 22:45like we've seen the last couple NBA champions really have.
- 22:47The Celtics had that great perimeter defense last year.
- 22:49The Nuggets had the great perimeter defense when they won
- 22:51a championship. Milwaukee had a great perimeter
- 22:53defense. So they had to adjust to that
- 22:55kind of style and I think OKC adjusted right back.
- 22:57It was just better coach, better adjustments on their point from
- 23:00their players. Obviously Carlisle's a better
- 23:01coach than Mark Dayno, who's a pretty good coach with OK C, But
- 23:05Carlisle's a better coach, got the better of him game one by
- 23:07selling out all 5 starters and the role players stepped up and
- 23:10OK C. That's really the one weaknesses
- 23:11they have sometimes with they had the Celtic syndrome.
- 23:13They shot themselves out of game one and they actually adjusted
- 23:16in Game 2 by still trying to draw a foul, still trying to
- 23:18control the ball. And they end up winning that
- 23:20game while still playing suffocating defense.
- 23:22And they're showing their defensive depth at the same time
- 23:24being just as good as Indiana's offensive depth.
- 23:27And and that's why they were able to win Game 2.
- 23:29And we saw them in the Nugget series, even though that Nugget
- 23:30series won seven games, had some ugly games mixed in there, they
- 23:33knew they were still the more dominant team and they showed
- 23:35it. And I expect them to do the
- 23:36same. Here this is having a very
- 23:38nugget type feel of a series in I think the coaching and the way
- 23:44that you know you're going to have to play chess throughout it
- 23:48and and you can't just have a set type of hey, we got to focus
- 23:54on this in game three. It's like, OK, well, all right,
- 23:56we might have to make a little adjustment here, you know, for
- 23:59the second-half or the second quarter and I think we've seen
- 24:02that. Individual timeouts too.
- 24:05Right, right. And how you, how you use them
- 24:08and what you and what you take to your advantage and how do you
- 24:12capitalize on it. But yeah, I just think that
- 24:15coaching right now and obviously everybody's heard it's a long
- 24:19year. I mean, their playoffs are long
- 24:21in itself. And so I think it's just going
- 24:23to come down to execution, not only on the court, but also
- 24:28execution from the bench and how they take advantage or how they
- 24:34make the adjustment in the way that they fit as the game plays
- 24:38itself out. So this series is playing out so
- 24:42far just like I thought it would.
- 24:44Halliburton is. I mean, can you remember a guy?
- 24:48Has he done it in every round or is it 3?
- 24:50Straight, yeah, it's the most. It's the most since like 95, I
- 24:55think. He has like 5 or 6 I think.
- 24:57It's unbelievable. He did it back-to-back to back
- 25:00games. Three games 3.
- 25:02Right. So it's 3 three straight game
- 25:04ones, is that right 3. And they beat them all, and all
- 25:07three games happen within 5 seconds.
- 25:10So all it's absolutely. Crazy when Nick's one was
- 25:13ridiculous. Well, they didn't win that.
- 25:14This one might have been more ridiculous.
- 25:16That was a game trying. That was a game.
- 25:18Time, yeah. It would have been wonderful if
- 25:21he did the choke and then he lost the game.
- 25:23I would have loved every second of that.
- 25:24It didn't happen. Power to him.
- 25:26He's still going. Carl Anthony Towns hit his free
- 25:28throws. It would have still would have
- 25:29been over for them but. If the refs actually called a
- 25:32goaltending like they should have, maybe.
- 25:34We'll take a day off from talking about how I think the
- 25:36Knicks are going to get rid of Carl Anthony Towns this
- 25:38offseason. But I really, I really think
- 25:42that OK, C is a significantly better team than Indiana.
- 25:45And I think the only thing they have going for them is
- 25:48Halliburton's heroics and Carlisle being just, I think
- 25:51showing off that he's either the best coach or top two, top three
- 25:54coach in the NBA. And people should stop
- 25:56disrespecting him that way because he is that good.
- 26:00That that being said, I know was really good as well.
- 26:03And he was very smart. And how they decided to OK,
- 26:07Halliburton, if you're not going to go take your shot, we'll give
- 26:09you shots and just you'll pass it to somebody who's covered.
- 26:13And they just decided to put the full court press on everyone
- 26:17else on the court except for Halliburton just playing kind of
- 26:19straight up, which is what teams had not done in the past.
- 26:23And guess what? Those guys weren't open and they
- 26:25weren't hitting shots and they weren't able to play play as
- 26:27fast-paced as they like to play. Put that on top of the fact they
- 26:30have Lou Dort and Alex Caruso and Shay hounding them on
- 26:35defense, three of the best wing defenders, guard defenders and
- 26:39entirety of basketball. They don't have much of a
- 26:42chance, I don't think. They.
- 26:44Stole the game. I think they they led for .3
- 26:47seconds and it was the final point 3 seconds of game one.
- 26:51But that's the entirety that they've LED in the first two
- 26:53games of the season of the of the series.
- 26:56That's not exactly a good plus minus differential, right?
- 27:00So Indiana plays that high paced game.
- 27:03They have guys like Naismith. You mentioned Naismith, a good
- 27:06rebounding guard. He has a great gets really
- 27:08streaky hot from three and he plays good defense.
- 27:11He'll stay, he'll go over screens.
- 27:13I wish we the Knicks had more guys that did that.
- 27:15I think it would have been a different story.
- 27:16They had a guy like Naismith. That being said, the three
- 27:20guards I just mentioned are like kryptonite for Naismith.
- 27:24Matheran did nothing. You saw Shay doing the too small
- 27:27to Matheran after he hit a shot over him.
- 27:30Matheran is out of his element. And those are two Canadians.
- 27:33They know each other. They know each other pretty well
- 27:35from that Canadian team. So I don't think it's going to
- 27:39be close. Chet hasn't even gotten going,
- 27:41by the way, in those first two games because he does have the
- 27:44task of handling Siakam. He does have to handle some of
- 27:47that. Siakam is a load, we know that,
- 27:50but I don't think it's going to be close to.
- 27:51Right. He was only a load against the
- 27:53Knicks because they're slow. Besides Mitchell Robertson and
- 27:56Mitchell Robertson hack a Mitch. And that was the only reason why
- 27:59the Knicks had problems keeping him on the court is because they
- 28:01kept hacking him and and the Pacers knew how to keep him off
- 28:05the court. Karl Anthony Towns is a slow fat
- 28:07guy who can't keep up with the guys.
- 28:09And that's the problem right now.
- 28:11When you look at the Knicks, they need a big that can
- 28:13actually go up and down the court, not choke, not slow down
- 28:17on the basketball court because he's out of breath because he
- 28:19ate Twinkies before the game. Again, going back to your your
- 28:23Pacer take, I disagree with you. I think the Pacers could
- 28:26absolutely stay in this series. They've got to tell they've got
- 28:29the guys that can hit big shots as we've seen that before.
- 28:32You don't necessarily have to have the best team to win
- 28:35championships. I can name a bunch of years,
- 28:38Miami, Miami Heat against the Dallas Mavericks, same coach
- 28:41Rick Carlisle. They had a good team.
- 28:43They didn't have a great team. They had a bunch of old guys, JC
- 28:46kid, Dirk Nowitzki, all these other guys.
- 28:48They were an older team and and they had guys come out of the
- 28:51the woodwork, guys that you wouldn't expect to, to pick up
- 28:54the pace and play well in the playoffs, which they did.
- 28:57Again, going back to my thought on why those great teams don't
- 29:02always win the OKC Thunder, they they had a great team for years
- 29:06with Russell, Russell Westbrook and James Harden and Serge Ibaka
- 29:10and Kevin Durant. We mentioned this many, many
- 29:12times. Why couldn't they get over the
- 29:14hub? Because they bumped into a team
- 29:16that was just as good as them put together by LeBron James, as
- 29:19we all know, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and the players that
- 29:22they had on that roster. So the OKC Thunders had very
- 29:26good teams over the years and talented players.
- 29:29I just think the Pacers, the one thing that I don't like the
- 29:32Pacers in the series is, is that Shy Alexander and OKC, they're
- 29:37the youngest team in the NBA. They could go up and down the
- 29:40court just as much as the Pacers can.
- 29:43They're fast, they're athletic and they're they.
- 29:45They could do all the things the Knicks can't do and they could
- 29:48play guys power forwards that could go up and down the court.
- 29:51Multiple guys go up and down the court, even if they're not good
- 29:54defenders, put their bodies in front of these guys and make
- 29:57them work for their shots, something the Knicks couldn't do
- 30:00in that series in certain quarters.
- 30:03So the only difference is in the Knicks series, I thought they
- 30:06had really good defenders and I thought they had guys that were
- 30:08better than the guys that we had in certain spots.
- 30:11I didn't think we had an answer for Siakam.
- 30:13I didn't think at all there was no answer for see.
- 30:15I think Siakam is very overrated.
- 30:17I think you make him. Out but it's it's not about it
- 30:20overrated it's does your team have a guy that can guard him
- 30:23when we get to the playoffs? If you don't don't, he's they
- 30:26don't, so that that doesn't matter if he's not like a top
- 30:29ten player, he's not, but he's a top 25 player, probably towards
- 30:3225 and he killed. Us.
- 30:34But here, here's what I would have done if I was the coach of
- 30:37the New York Knicks. What I would have done is put OG
- 30:40or McHale Bridges on Siakam. Make him work for every one of
- 30:44his shots. Not this twist and turn.
- 30:46OK, we're rotating guys from the perimeter because we have two
- 30:49guys that don't play defense and Jaylen Brunson and Karl Anthony
- 30:53Towns. That's the problem with the
- 30:55Knicks. They got to stop with this
- 30:56rotation crap. That's.
- 30:58The problem, but that's the problem that's why the Knicks
- 31:01didn't beat the Pacers. Honestly, it would have been
- 31:03more fun to watch watching the New York Knicks play against OKC
- 31:07one because if the Knicks had the right coaching and they put
- 31:10themselves in the right position, I think the Knicks
- 31:12match up very well against the OKC Thunder.
- 31:15They got the offense to stay in contact with them and obviously
- 31:18have a guy that could be game changing in Jaylen Brunson, who
- 31:21by the way, Shire Alexander, the two times he played against
- 31:24Jaylen Brunson this year had problems defending them.
- 31:27So that's the thing. You have to have a guy, a game
- 31:30changing guard that can absolutely outplay the other
- 31:33guard or play somewhere around the other guy, not outplay him,
- 31:37but play it, compete with him every single part of the game.
- 31:40That has been the problem. That's the.
- 31:42That's a great point, Errol. You know that the matchup the
- 31:45Knicks would have had with OKC would have been a much better
- 31:48matchup for the Knicks than Indiana has with OKC.
- 31:51That's saying that saying that the Pacers were a tough matchup
- 31:55for the Knicks. They just were.
- 31:57I think the Knicks would have done better against OKC, even
- 31:59though he's a better team. I think Rick Carlisle was a bad.
- 32:02Match up for him. Thibodeau is just not a guy who
- 32:05adjusted enough and you saw it defensively, especially if his
- 32:08way didn't work. He wasn't going to switch it up
- 32:10to his own. He wasn't going to switch up how
- 32:13they were playing man. He was going to stay with him.
- 32:14Did you see the numbers? Did you see the numbers for the
- 32:16playoffs? The NBA Finals?
- 32:18See the numbers? The the ratings.
- 32:20The ratings, do you see the numbers?
- 32:22They're bad. I have not seen that bad.
- 32:23I'm assuming they're bad because nobody cares about those two
- 32:26areas. They.
- 32:27Love their basketball. We actually we actually touched
- 32:29on that and was like wondering what the I guess what the number
- 32:35will be and it if it would be the least watch.
- 32:37They're 8 1/2. Million.
- 32:39They're eight and a half million down from what they were in the
- 32:42first two games of last last year's playoffs.
- 32:45In the Finals, they're 8 and 1,000,000, down 8 and 8.6
- 32:48million or something like that that I saw.
- 32:50It's not really good. And, and again, that's the
- 32:53problem with the NBA. As much as as you would have
- 32:56liked to see these young teams go at it one-on-one, you really
- 33:00wanted to see the OK C Thunder in the New York Knicks.
- 33:03Why? Because they're New York Knicks
- 33:05fans and New Yorkers all over the country.
- 33:07And that's what would have draw or drawn all these fans that are
- 33:11probably not basketball fans, more baseball or even hockey or
- 33:15or football fans to stay tuned and see what the Knicks are
- 33:19doing in the in the Finals. So a team that hasn't been there
- 33:22since 1973, so. I I just think it are we saying
- 33:26they're not rigged now that the NBA is?
- 33:28No, it is, because if it was, they wouldn't.
- 33:30But if it was rigged, they would have given us the Knicks.
- 33:32No, because ratings. But here's here's why I think
- 33:35it's rigged. It's because that the Pacers
- 33:37were not expected to win the series.
- 33:39And as far as money is concerned, and when it comes to
- 33:41betting, the Pacers were the betting was the betting per, you
- 33:46know, you know, what do they care?
- 33:48What do they say? That the betting stand out from
- 33:50the public bet? Yeah, they were the public bet
- 33:52where you're going to make more money than betting on the
- 33:54Knicks. And that's why the NBA, even
- 33:57though the NBA is hurting on this, they're really not because
- 33:59Shia Alexander is going to win. OKC is going to win their first
- 34:02title. Shia Alexander wins the MVP and
- 34:05now you're going to try to compare and contrast.
- 34:07Hey, Shy could be the next Michael Jordan.
- 34:09This OKC Thunder team could be the next Bulls of the 90s if
- 34:13they want to, or the Golden State Warriors of this past era.
- 34:16So that's what they're doing. That's what the NBA likes is
- 34:20just superstars and a guy that stands out from all the rest.
- 34:23And right now, no matter who's in the finals against this guy
- 34:27Shy Alexander, he is the, the NBA is trying to popular, make
- 34:32him the popularity, the the voice of reason for the NBA.
- 34:36The LJA wants to make Shy Alexander the superstar of the
- 34:40league and that's what he's becoming right now.
- 34:43And by the way, he's not American.
- 34:44And by the way, the last two superstars, actually 3
- 34:48superstars that were MVPS besides Joelle MPD that are are
- 34:53still in the league and still dominant are all foreign
- 34:56players. Yokich, Shy Alexander, who's
- 34:59Canadian and Giannis who's Greek, all three of those guys.
- 35:03If you look at the last 7 MVPS, those three guys now hold I
- 35:08think six of them. So it it just tells you how it's
- 35:12transitioning. America is not the favorites now
- 35:17moving forward or the future until Anthony Edwards or Cooper
- 35:21flag or one of these other guys come in, this BYU kid, it's
- 35:24going to be in be in college basketball.
- 35:27Everybody says it's going to be a superstar and maybe, maybe one
- 35:29of the boozers. We're we're looking at United
- 35:32States basketball when LeBron James and Steph Curry and Kevin
- 35:35Durant step down and they, you know, ride off into the sunset
- 35:38with their Twitter feeds. I mean, we're wondering where
- 35:42NBA, where American basketball is going to go for the Olympics
- 35:46in the next couple of years. It doesn't seem very good and
- 35:49it's not positioned very good for the NBA.
- 35:51And I'm sorry, I'm not sitting here and busting anybody's
- 35:55chops. The fact is, right now, the NBA
- 35:57knows what they're doing. They're trying to bring
- 36:00international basketball to the NBA.
- 36:03There is more international fans.
- 36:05Soccer is the biggest sport worldly worldwide.
- 36:09If you can bring basketball to the forefront where you're
- 36:11taking fans away from hockey and football, American football and
- 36:16even European football to bring it to their sport, it changes
- 36:20everything for a product that they're trying to sell to get
- 36:24over the NFLI don't know if they will, but they're trying to get
- 36:27to that point where they can jump the NFL with the the, the
- 36:31endorsements and the sponsorships that they could
- 36:34bring to the forefront. I think this is a great idea.
- 36:36I think the NBA and obviously out of Silver, I can't stand.
- 36:40I think he's a terrible commissioner.
- 36:41I, he understands, he understands where the the the
- 36:46game is going and international is the way you want to perceive
- 36:49and push it to be. So I think it's a good idea.
- 36:52Fish, you were talking about how how popular the NBA Finals were
- 36:55last year, 8.6 billion more than this year.
- 36:57If only Luka Harris, Luka Doncic was more popular like Nico
- 37:00Harrison wanted. Well, the problem is he like to
- 37:03celebrate by drinking a beer and we just can't have that in
- 37:06Dallas. That's not the Dallas is.
- 37:08Did you know that Dallas is actually like a a St.
- 37:11Like it's very religious, very uptight.
- 37:13There's no, you know, no sleaziness going on.
- 37:16Jerry Jones has never been, you know, considered that type of
- 37:19person. Does everyone, does everyone in
- 37:21this political group go by the Nico Harrison School of
- 37:24Conditioning? I can't believe that guy got
- 37:28bailed out with Cooper flag. I still can't believe it.
- 37:30It's it. I don't know what deal they had.
- 37:32Now. If you want talk about Rig
- 37:32Darrell, I'll talk. We'll talk about that.
- 37:35Cooper flag goes to Dallas after Lucas goes to the Lakers.
- 37:39That we could talk about it being rigged about.
- 37:41That's the LJA money you're talking about.
- 37:44It's not just in the NBA, it's the NFL, too.
- 37:47The NFL understands what their superstars are and every.
- 37:51And Lamar Jackson's probably the most overall talented player in
- 37:54the NFL, but he's never going to win.
- 37:56You know why he's never going to win?
- 37:58Because the NFL don't want to see Baltimore win.
- 38:00Nobody wants to see Baltimore win unless you have a superstar
- 38:03like on your roster. They don't have a personality
- 38:07like that. Lamar Jackson, as good as he is,
- 38:09is he really a personality? He's quiet.
- 38:12He doesn't say much when you have Ray Lewis going over there
- 38:14praying and doing a stupid dance when he comes out every single
- 38:17time. I mean, that's what the fans
- 38:19want. They want a guy that's going to
- 38:20stand out. I, I want to get a Reggie Lewis.
- 38:23I'm I'm Ray Lewis jersey or Reggie Miller jersey.
- 38:26Reggie Miller was a superstar for the Pacers.
- 38:28The Pacers don't have a personality like that.
- 38:30The only reason why Tyrese Halperton is trying to
- 38:33transition into the player like that because he knows it's going
- 38:36to bring dollars and what dollars brings it brings faces
- 38:39to the Pacers. An organization let's be honest,
- 38:43hasn't won a championship and might never win a championship
- 38:46because they can never put 2 or even 3 superstars together.
- 38:50Because you got idiots like Hal Burton's father running on a
- 38:52basketball court after the game the the the first round and
- 38:57telling a superstar player like Jana saying you lost you suck.
- 39:01OK, you don't say that to an MVPA, multiple MVP and one of
- 39:05the best players the NBA seen foreignly in in probably our
- 39:09past for the last 25 years. I'm sorry, I'm trying to correct
- 39:12myself here. I'm trying to get the right
- 39:14words out of it. It kind of pisses me off.
- 39:16There it is. Hal Burton's freaking father
- 39:18going to going to Giannis and talking crap to him.
- 39:21That doesn't make any sense. And by the way, where's Hal
- 39:24Burton's father after game #2 as he was yapping his big fat mouth
- 39:28with Pat McAfee and Triple H taking pictures in game one.
- 39:34You didn't see that game #2 you didn't see Pat McAfee wearing a
- 39:38a Pacers hat after the game, dancing around and prancing
- 39:41around with the Pacer fans. Give me a pint.
- 39:43How did Giannis not just haul? I mean they were forehead.
- 39:47He is a gentleman. Oh my gosh, it's like I was mad
- 39:51for him and wanted to hit when I was watching it and I'm like,
- 39:55how did he, how did he not like lose his?
- 39:58I would have lost my gore. He's like Halber and his dad's
- 40:01like Flavor Flav without the clock.
- 40:04He just gets phase. He's get another court just
- 40:08thinks he's part of everything he.
- 40:09Looks like Earl Manigault. Does anybody know who Earl
- 40:11Manigault is? He's arguably the greatest
- 40:13basketball player of all time that never made it to the NBA
- 40:16because of drugs. But if you read the story, the
- 40:18Earl Manigault story, you can look about, look what he looks
- 40:21like. Go look at what Earl Manigault
- 40:23looks like. And you compare and contrast
- 40:25what obviously Tyrus Hal Burton's father looks like.
- 40:28They're almost identical. I, I actually thought when I
- 40:31first saw Hall Burton's father that it was Earl Manigault.
- 40:34I found out I knew Earl Manigault died and died like
- 40:3710-15 years ago. Yeah, he died a long time ago.
- 40:40But if you look at Earl Manigault and his father,
- 40:43they're almost identical looking.
- 40:45It's, it's so funny the way they look.
- 40:47And by the way, Earl Manigault was the kind of guy if, if
- 40:50nobody knows who he is, he was a guy that you could put like
- 40:52money on the top of the backboard and he would grab the
- 40:55money off the top of the backboard.
- 40:56That's how high he could that's. What I'm seeing online that he
- 40:59was like a crazy, crazy athlete. He was a crazy athlete, leaper,
- 41:04Michael Jordan. Some people think he was Michael
- 41:06Jordan before Michael Jordan, that that's the way they were.
- 41:09Compared, he would have been coming up in the 70s or 60s,
- 41:11late 60s or 70s. Right.
- 41:13It was 70s, seventies, 80s, late 70s, 80s, somewhere around there
- 41:18in the 80s. So that's where he that's where
- 41:20he was playing. So he played college ball.
- 41:23I think in 77 or 76 he couldn't stay on the college team because
- 41:26of crack. And he got a girl actually
- 41:28earlier. He was born in 1944, so he would
- 41:30have been playing in the early 60s.
- 41:32OK, maybe it was 60s. I don't know.
- 41:34I just know about Earl Manico and I know his story.
- 41:37I know he comes from New York. A lot of people talk about he
- 41:39he's the one who made Rutger Park what Rutger Park was.
- 41:42Everybody says who's the first star to ever step on a
- 41:45basketball court and play play at Rucker Park.
- 41:47It was Earl Manigault. That's who it was and it was the
- 41:50house that Earl built. Anybody that knows the story
- 41:53knows that Earl Manigault was the first big name that ever
- 41:55played basketball in Rucker Park.
- 41:57But I I want to get into the Stanley Cup because we got a lot
- 42:01more to get into the Stanley Cup is tied 11.
- 42:04The Oilers winning game 1/4 to three and the Panthers winning
- 42:08game 2/5 to four, both in overtime.
- 42:11Leon Dry Seidel had two goals, including the game winner in
- 42:15Game 1. He he has the most playoff goals
- 42:19of anybody in the last five years with 45 Connor McDavid and
- 42:23multiple points in both games of the series, and now has 28 for
- 42:28his career. Both Marshant and Bennett have
- 42:33combined for three goals in the first 3 and in the first two
- 42:37games of this series, including double overtime winner by
- 42:41Marshawn in game #2 Sergei Babaratski has made 42 saves on
- 42:4746 shots in each of the two games of the series.
- 42:51This is the first time since the Rangers in the Kings Stanley Cup
- 42:55in 2014 where the first two games have gone to overtime.
- 43:00This is what you want to see if you're a hockey fan.
- 43:03You want to see these teams fight and fight and fight all
- 43:06the way to the end. Go to double overtime, go to
- 43:08single overtime, go to triple overtime.
- 43:10That's what you want to see. And you want these games to be
- 43:12closed because what does that do?
- 43:14It's good for hockey because right now the NBA Finals, like
- 43:17we were just saying, is to me nothing that stands out.
- 43:21You have the Pacers against the OK C Thunder, two young teams
- 43:24and one superstar. Right now you have the biggest
- 43:27player, the most popular player, the best player in the world
- 43:30playing the series, and arguably the second best player in the
- 43:33world playing on this same roster.
- 43:35So now you get a chance to see in the forefront 2 teams that
- 43:38played against one another back-to-back years, one team
- 43:41that won last year and another team that's trying to win their
- 43:44first title since the 90s since the Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier
- 43:48era when the Edmonton Oilers won fourth championships in a row.
- 43:52So they haven't been there for a very, very long time.
- 43:55Now you're getting a chance to see these superstar players play
- 43:59at the top of their games. Talk about Brad Marshawn.
- 44:02Brad Marshawn is one of the best playoff players we've seen in
- 44:05the last 15 years with the Boston Bruins.
- 44:08The Boston Bruins, they want a title.
- 44:09Why? Because Brad Marshawn had a lot
- 44:11to do with it. They also went to two 2 Stanley
- 44:15Cup Finals. I was out one of them when they
- 44:17lost. Brad Marshawn is the biggest
- 44:19pest. He's like a flea that doesn't go
- 44:21away and you could see him in the games you see him in
- 44:23overtime games, even in the third third period.
- 44:26Brad Marshawn had more shots on goal in the third period than
- 44:30any player in this in any of the games.
- 44:32Why? Cuz Brad Marshawn puts pressure
- 44:35and he plays a high paced game. Doesn't matter how old Brad
- 44:38Marshawn is. Brad Marshawn puts pressure on
- 44:41every single team he plays against offensively.
- 44:44And another thing that Brad Marshawn does very, very well is
- 44:47he plays very, very well shorthanded.
- 44:49And Brad Marshant is the first player in NHL history to go and
- 44:55score a goal in overtime in a finals game shorthanded.
- 45:00Okay, He's the first player to ever do that and that's what
- 45:04makes this series so interesting.
- 45:06We could see be right. We could see records be broken.
- 45:08And I'll say this again, Skinner has not played well.
- 45:11He has not played bad in this series.
- 45:13If he plays at a pace like this, they can beat the Florida
- 45:17Panthers because they have the firepower to do it.
- 45:20If Dry Sidle plays like this, I mean, he's almost impossible to
- 45:24stop. And I've said this again, we
- 45:26have not seen Dry Sidle play at the top of his game really
- 45:29throughout the playoffs. And now in the big game when the
- 45:31game is on the line and the lights are on them, Dry Sidle
- 45:35shows up and he's showing you why I believe he's the second
- 45:38best player in the world, right behind his counterpart and
- 45:41Connor McDavid. Another thing I will say about
- 45:43this series, it's pretty simple. Both teams have not played very
- 45:47well defensively. They have not.
- 45:49They've been horrible. Both teams who have, I know I
- 45:52would say the Edmonton Oilers are a game beating defense.
- 45:56They're not. They're not known for their
- 45:58defense. They are better defense this
- 45:59year than they were last year. They were much better this year
- 46:02than they were last year, but they have not played very well.
- 46:06And if they keep doing this and play at this pace, if, as if, if
- 46:10somehow Florida figures it out, they do have great defensive
- 46:13parents. If they figure out what they're
- 46:15doing wrong defensively and help Bob Arotsky out, Bob Rotsky out.
- 46:19I mean, I, I think Florida wins the series like I was
- 46:22predicting. So right now when you look at
- 46:25the the, the teams they're playing back, back and forth,
- 46:28they're playing good speed hockey.
- 46:30This is what you want to see. You want to see high flying goal
- 46:33scoring games. But this is not good for a team
- 46:36like the Edmonton Oilers that have less of a goalie.
- 46:40And their defense, as good as it's been this year, has not
- 46:43been anywhere close to as good as Florida when they're playing
- 46:46at the top of their game. We talked about it in the
- 46:48basketball finals too, like we were seeing a lot more
- 46:50transition basketball than we've seen in years past where it was
- 46:52the playoffs are always more of a half court game.
- 46:54We're kind of seeing the same kind of thing the last couple
- 46:56series with the NHL 2 where the transition, breaking the puck
- 46:59out of the zone and trying to make it work to get breakaway
- 47:02chances have been the recipe for success for both of these teams
- 47:05on offense. And that's why you're seeing a
- 47:07lot faster pace of these games, 2 high scoring games so far and
- 47:10it's crazy. Like Babarovsky 42 saves it both
- 47:13of the games so far. Like this is unheard of when
- 47:15you're seeing Florida's defenses in years past.
- 47:16I don't think Florida's defense throughout this post season has
- 47:18been as good. Maybe Carolina, even though they
- 47:21even though they lost that series, they kind of exposed
- 47:23some concepts to it. They were still putting up goals
- 47:25in Edmonton with much more offensive talent than Carolina
- 47:27does is really showing that kind of thing.
- 47:29Now, like you said, Florida's offense is still being able to
- 47:31play fast too, because Edmonton's wingers are a little
- 47:34a little older and Edmonton's defense, their depth defense is
- 47:36still a little bit older too. The problem is Matthew Kachuk
- 47:39hasn't gotten it going in the series.
- 47:40Edmonton's actually had a good game plan on him.
- 47:42I don't think he had a shot on goal until the third period of
- 47:44that game. So if Martian is the only
- 47:46production that they have from the wing, that's going to make
- 47:49it tough for Florida to get the depth scoring that they should
- 47:51have an advantage. And I was talking about the
- 47:52second and third lines being a distinct advantage for Florida.
- 47:56Bennett's scoring three goals, but where is the rest of it
- 47:58coming from at that point after that?
- 48:01And Babrovsky, I know he struggled in years past and
- 48:03they've still been able to overcome it, but is he going to
- 48:06be make it as adversity? Because Skinner, we know could
- 48:09bounce back. Like he gets pulled and he
- 48:10bounced back and has a shutout at certain points.
- 48:12As bad as he could be, it's been a weird pattern for him.
- 48:15My rear end is burning but. Brofsky, He's been a Hall of
- 48:17Fame caliber goalie his whole career.
- 48:19Will he be able to handle getting?
- 48:20Rattled. I need a blow pop.
- 48:21Too, which we've seen in certain instances like in the Toronto
- 48:24series, but that's also Toronto too.
- 48:26So it'll be interesting to see how both those.
- 48:27Teams I lovely Sam. To those types of matchups, but
- 48:30so far Edmonton is weathering the storm with the first line.
- 48:32Their stars are coming out like you're.
- 48:33Saying blow my back up. Dry Sidle and their defense is
- 48:36actually played really well offensively as bad as they're.
- 48:38Playing playing with my pickle. But like fish, like you said in
- 48:41the past too, can they overcome the injury to Hyman?
- 48:43Get enough. Score in the.
- 48:44Second and third line, that'll be a big key because eventually
- 48:46Florida's defense is going to stop some of their stars and
- 48:49that'll be up to Edmondson to adjust as.
- 48:50Well, my rear end is burning. Well, I got I got someone whose
- 48:56rear end has been burnt to a crisp in these first two games
- 48:59and it's the Selkie Trophy award winner Alexander Barkov.
- 49:02Barkov is a -, 4 with no points in the first few games.
- 49:07He has been torched by the stars of this Edmonton team.
- 49:13Oh my God, they cannot have this happen.
- 49:16This is the big matchup problem. If he can't get anything at all
- 49:21because he's not doing anything offensively, he's going to be a
- 49:23defensive presence. And if he can't stop at all, Dry
- 49:29Sidle or McDavid, whoever they're putting them on.
- 49:31I would assume he's probably following around Dry Sidle a
- 49:35little bit more because he's as a either.
- 49:36Way they're going to have to try to find some kind of other
- 49:38adjustment, whether it's center ice, whether it's just staying
- 49:41in his own in the in this offensive zone.
- 49:44It's it's bad and to Chuck had no shots in that game.
- 49:48Speedy he had one game with he had one.
- 49:50He has one assist in two games. He's 0 plus minus, but only
- 49:55three shots in goal and they were all in the same game and
- 49:58he's blocked one shot. He's got he's doing like nothing
- 50:01out there and he's got to be a big time player for them.
- 50:05Marshawn look, he used to kill the Panthers when he was on
- 50:08Boston. Now he's really saving the day
- 50:11for them right now, at least early in this series.
- 50:13So I'm a little worried about Florida if they can't get
- 50:17Barkhoff going a little bit. If I mean, Ekblad hasn't played
- 50:20well. There's a couple of, I mean,
- 50:21Seth Jones looks good. You know, there's some guys that
- 50:24are. New yeah, he was a big X Factor
- 50:25because he's been very up and down since he's been bumped
- 50:27around so many different teams. He he looks good right now, but
- 50:30again, you don't know how consistent that's going to be.
- 50:33My, my question right now is can they play a little bit more
- 50:36defensive hockey? Errol, you said it.
- 50:38This is great to watch, but if you're a coach, especially for
- 50:42Florida, you can't like this pace.
- 50:44I would say pace can't be what you want to do, right?
- 50:48You can't want to play this way. They, they have to find a way to
- 50:51slow this down or else they're not going to win this series.
- 50:54That's my fear. I I hope it goes 7.
- 50:57I hope it goes seven man because this is a lot of fun to watch.
- 51:00Yeah, the pace. Definitely favors fans like the.
- 51:01Pace definitely favors Edmonton too because they have they have
- 51:04much more youth with their defense as well as like I was
- 51:06saying with Eck Coleman, some of the other veterans nurse in the
- 51:09second pairing like the rest of their defense is all very young
- 51:11can. Space.
- 51:12That's why I was. Mentioning in the stat last week
- 51:14with Bouchard to the way he was able to possess.
- 51:16Fish wears panties. You could have a skater like
- 51:19that that could transition his own that quickly and create
- 51:21opportunities like that that benefits that type of pace game
- 51:24as old as their other. Winners could be.
- 51:26That that pace still definitely favors Edmonton, whereas like
- 51:29you're saying, Florida still wants to play that physical,
- 51:31like middle of the ice type. Trap how does any?
- 51:34Which has worked for most series so far the last two years.
- 51:37It was a Edmonton counter than West.
- 51:40It's definitely a wet experience when you're watching hockey.
- 51:43There's no question. But I will say this, going back
- 51:46to what you both are saying, Matthew could Chuck needs to
- 51:49start playing at the top level that he has over the years.
- 51:52He This is why they made that trade.
- 51:55That's why they brought him in. I'm not saying Matthew Kachuk
- 51:57hasn't earned every bit of that trade.
- 52:00I think he's been sensational. He's really stood out from all
- 52:04the different players over the years that we've seen the
- 52:06Florida Panthers trade for or move, move to bring in and trade
- 52:11away superstar players while doing it.
- 52:13I just think that Kachuk needs to stand, stand up and play his
- 52:17game. If you look at Kachuk against
- 52:19McDavid over the last really during the season against him in
- 52:24that that All Star thing and then you watch him right now in
- 52:27in in the playoffs, in the finals, he doesn't show up
- 52:30against these big superstars. The the biggest of all, he's
- 52:33going to say he's going to say whatever he wants.
- 52:35If somehow Edmonton wins this series, comes back and wins the
- 52:39series and gets a Florida Panther team that they're much
- 52:42by the way, the Florida Panthers are much better than this
- 52:44Edmonton team. Well, then you're going to have
- 52:46to make excuses once again. Why Connor McDavid?
- 52:49Connor McDavid has the best of you in a big, big game now.
- 52:53Connor McDavid showed why he's the big superstar.
- 52:56Remember Sidney Crosby years and years ago in those world the
- 53:00World Hockey Classic when he played Team USA?
- 53:03What did Sidney Crosby do in the big game?
- 53:05He scored that big goal to beat USA.
- 53:07The same thing happened this year.
- 53:09Wasn't the World Baseball what World Hockey Classic classics?
- 53:13It wasn't the IT wasn't the Olympics.
- 53:16It was some stupid All Star game that the NHL put together drew a
- 53:19lot of people and it when it came down to it, Chuck wasn't
- 53:23healthy and who needed to step up?
- 53:25The guy that always stays healthy, that goes out there and
- 53:28gives you 110% the superstar in the face of the NHL economy,
- 53:32David. And that's why you're looking at
- 53:34and you're you're realizing right now, this is this is it.
- 53:37And this is this is what makes the hot.
- 53:40This is what makes the NHL playoffs so fun to watch and why
- 53:43the NHL playoffs moving forward could be big because you're
- 53:48going to. You could see Florida and
- 53:49Edmonton here next year with the talent that they have here on
- 53:52these rosters. Yeah, both teams have built up
- 53:54good youth as well. This was a team that these are
- 53:56two teams that built on a lot of veteran course for a while to
- 53:58build around their stars and they couldn't do well in the
- 54:00playoffs. Remember Florida?
- 54:01Florida when even before Quinnville was there was in the
- 54:03playoffs a lot, but they never won a playoff series at all.
- 54:06And Edmonton, if they did win, it was AI guess a team that
- 54:08wasn't very good and it's just because they they could take
- 54:10down one star and just let the other one do their thing and the
- 54:13rest of the team disappeared. And that never works in hockey.
- 54:16You need at least 2 lines that have done well with defensive
- 54:19depth. I still think the name of the
- 54:22game is the power play in this series.
- 54:24If they've got to keep Edmonton off the power play, they can't
- 54:27take dumb penalties. Chuck is a guy that sometimes
- 54:30takes dumb penalties and they have to make sure that they
- 54:33don't allow those guys to all get on the ice at the same time
- 54:36because they're going to score. Mcdavis got 5 assists in two
- 54:40games. He's pretty in a couple of
- 54:42PowerPoint power play assists, right?
- 54:44This guy's incredible. They he can.
- 54:47I don't know if he's going to be denied Errol it.
- 54:49It could be like last year was his Gretzky year where he loses
- 54:53and then he's going to go on a run.
- 54:55This guy is that good. He's just dicing people up.
- 54:58Best defenders in the league. He's dicing up.
- 55:00They need goaltending. That's Edmonton's going to still
- 55:03come back. And even though Skinner's played
- 55:04well for them, if they if they lose again in the playoffs
- 55:08against the Florida Panthers, you're going to go back to the
- 55:10offseason and the drawing board and you're going to say
- 55:12Knoblocks a good young coach. You have two of the best young
- 55:15players, two of the the best players in the world, but you
- 55:18can't get over the hump because you don't have good goaltending.
- 55:20As we've seen this many, many times, goaltending wins
- 55:22championships. That's it for a show.
- 55:24We'll be back on Thursday. Who do we have?
- 55:26On all right, returning to the show, who the first time in a
- 55:28while for him Tobin Anderson returning the show at the time
- 55:31we had him on, he was the Iona head coach infamously won the as
- 55:34a 16 seat with fairly Dickinson. We've had a few of their players
- 55:37on the show as well and now he's actually assistant coach at USF
- 55:41after Iona. As A mentioned in my previous
- 55:43watch, that smell strangely fired him, but he's now special
- 55:46assistant to the head coach at USF.
- 55:48And by the way, I, I just got a text message that we should be
- 55:52getting in the next couple of weeks, Tyler McGill on the show.
- 55:54So that's something, you know, Peterson didn't work out,
- 55:59unfortunately, but a boy, Mr. Agent himself hooked us up.
