- 0:28Hey everybody, good early morning from the flower garden.
- 0:31Can hear lots of bugs out there. The girls are clucking around,
- 0:34but they are it's, it's still pretty dark, so they're sticking
- 0:40kind of close, but they're not very noisy.
- 0:42In any event, good early morning from the flower garden.
- 0:47Now, why are we in the flower garden today?
- 0:48Because there's a lesson in the fact that I had to pivot greatly
- 0:55in growing anything here. From what I learned, the South
- 0:59is very different than the North.
- 1:00And when I grew up up north, I grew up and it was very
- 1:05different environment for growing overall anything,
- 1:09vegetables, flowers, you name it.
- 1:12Very, very, very different environment.
- 1:14And when I moved down here, I had to really start to
- 1:19contemplate what I was going to grow successfully.
- 1:23And notice that's a word I added in at the end successfully,
- 1:26because I could grow anything. I could try growing anything.
- 1:29I could get things to grow, but could I get them to fruit?
- 1:32Could I get them to do what they were supposed to do?
- 1:34Could I get them to fully actualize themselves?
- 1:37That would be a hard no, my friends.
- 1:39So my first lesson over the years of doing this year really
- 1:44came in flowers because I was planting flowers that really
- 1:47need a deep cold in order to form their buds and come out and
- 1:53become stunning. And that just doesn't happen
- 1:57here. And you have to find certain
- 2:00things that can grow in these conditions.
- 2:03So yesterday I happened to be in this group that does talks about
- 2:09gardening overall and how difficult it is in the South.
- 2:12And, but they talk about all kinds of things.
- 2:15But the subject yesterday was that they were talking about how
- 2:17difficult it was to grow. And this woman had commented
- 2:19that she was, has been trying this for five years and she
- 2:22spent so much money and she's not getting what she wants and
- 2:25she thinks she's just going to throw in the towel.
- 2:27And I thought to myself, well, I've, I've been there, like not
- 2:30to throw in the towel, but I've been so frustrated because you,
- 2:35you buy things, you plant things and nothing seems to take shape.
- 2:38Everything seems to just be a disaster over and over and over
- 2:42again. And it's very frustrating on
- 2:44your, on your soul because you're trying to figure it out
- 2:47and you're like, oh, I wish this would just work.
- 2:50And let alone the money and everything else that you're
- 2:52spending in gardening is so it's so expensive, but it's not about
- 2:57the, the, that portion of it. It's about feeling fulfilled and
- 3:01doing something with it. So she was talking about how she
- 3:05was going to throw in the towel. Nothing seemed to work, whether
- 3:08it was her vegetables or her flowers.
- 3:10And what was interesting to me and why we're talking about this
- 3:13today is that so many people jumped in and started
- 3:17commenting. And there were a few people that
- 3:21agreed with her. They were thinking the same
- 3:22thing. And a good group of people that
- 3:26that kept saying don't give up, you just have to do this.
- 3:30And they were giving her advice. They were saying all these
- 3:32different things, and none of them were wrong.
- 3:34None of them were wrong. And she was commenting back to
- 3:37each one of them. Yeah, But da, da, da, da, da,
- 3:40da, da. Yeah, But da, da, da, da, da.
- 3:42So two lessons in this one. She was stuck in her story and
- 3:45she was going to stay to stay with it.
- 3:47Even though people were offering her solutions and really damn
- 3:50good solutions. She was not willing to accept
- 3:54the fact that there were other possibilities because she was
- 3:57stuck where she was emotionally and she could not move past it.
- 4:01So she was so frustrated that frustration was driving her bus
- 4:05and she was committed to being frustrated.
- 4:08Hear that she was committed to being frustrated.
- 4:11She wasn't committed to a solution.
- 4:12She went into the group just to essentially complain and not
- 4:18have resolution. She just wanted to complain and
- 4:22maybe she wanted to get attention for saying she was
- 4:24going to quit, which is exactly what happened because other
- 4:26people jumped in because at the core, humans are great and they
- 4:30want to help and they want to say don't do it, don't quit,
- 4:33stick it out and lift her up. But she wasn't willing to listen
- 4:37to that. And two, it's about being able
- 4:40to take on new information and say, let me try something else.
- 4:44So if you had said to me years ago you're going to be obsessed
- 4:48with growing Zinnia, I would have been like, I don't even
- 4:50like Zinnia. So why would that happen?
- 4:52Because I had a completely different vision of what a
- 4:54Zinnia was in my head at that time.
- 4:57And they weren't fun. They just looked kind of boring
- 5:01to me. But guess what?
- 5:02When I realized I couldn't grow what I wanted to grow here, I
- 5:07did the research. I started figuring out what does
- 5:09grow well in the South, looking for things that can tolerate
- 5:13heat and lack of water or too much water.
- 5:17They have to be resilient. They have to do all kinds of
- 5:20different things in their lifespan in order to be
- 5:23successful. Kind of like humans and taking
- 5:26on new information. So if this woman had just
- 5:30stopped and paused and said, OK, I'm going to just complain for a
- 5:35minute, but I'm really not going to, you know, throw in the towel
- 5:38and hurt everybody trying to lift her up.
- 5:39She could have said thank you for being inspirational and
- 5:42thank you for the information and move on.
- 5:45But that's not where she was. And who knows if she's going to
- 5:49quit or not, but she was a really great lesson giver if you
- 5:53want to say she provided us with a great lesson today because
- 5:56this is all about being able to take on new information, hear
- 6:01the possibilities from other people, letting other people
- 6:04lift you up and moving forward and not getting stuck in your
- 6:07story. So I hope this was helpful
- 6:10today. I hope you grow some great
- 6:12flowers out there and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:15Bye.
