- 0:04Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:07Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bart.
- 0:11Speaker 2: And Lazarre.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello, everybody nailed it, Joined.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Us always by our bark. Here is Evan Lazar and
- 0:19Speaker 3: Alex Bars. I'm gonna ask you two questions about this. Yeah,
- 0:22Speaker 3: but one question and then one SERI in question is
- 0:25Speaker 3: Ted McMillan slow. Yes, I disagree. I just don't think
- 0:29Speaker 3: he's fast. Oh yeah, Guyang.
- 0:34Speaker 1: That was a classic semantics argument, and I think today
- 0:37Speaker 1: is gonna be an even classicer semantics? Is classicer a word?
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm going I don't think so.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Classicer semantics argument?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Uh what a day?
- 0:46Speaker 1: I mean, this is gonna this is shaping up to
- 0:48Speaker 1: be a heck of a news day. Here on March
- 0:52Speaker 1: twenty sixth, the off season podcast, Evan Lazar, Alex Bar
- 0:57Speaker 1: Patriots Catch twenty two with you for the next couple
- 1:00Speaker 1: of hours here. I'm sure we'll have plenty of calls,
- 1:02Speaker 1: plenty of emails. There's a lot to discuss. It's exciting.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Some exciting news for the Patriots last night. Reportedly exciting
- 1:10Speaker 1: news for the Patriots last night. So we'll get to
- 1:13Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs here at the top of the show. We'll
- 1:15Speaker 1: get to the arm length measurement hurdle around the world
- 1:18Speaker 1: at LSU down in Baton Rouge apparently this morning, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: we'll get to all of it here with you guys
- 1:25Speaker 1: for the next two hours, which is gonna be fun.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So hey, Patriots fans, you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 1:31Speaker 1: including those not seen on TV, go to buy a
- 1:33Speaker 1: Toyota dot com. It is Toyota's official website for deals
- 1:36Speaker 1: from the official vehicle of the New England Patriots. Toyota
- 1:39Speaker 1: let's go places and easy to drink, easy to enjoy,
- 1:43Speaker 1: but like the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots.
- 1:46Speaker 1: All right, I want to start with Stefan Diggs. That's
- 1:49Speaker 1: the tangible news that we have today is that the
- 1:52Speaker 1: Patriots reportedly the tangible reported news that we have today
- 1:57Speaker 1: is that last night the Patriots have agreed to terms
- 2:01Speaker 1: reportedly with free agent wide receiver Stevon Diggs. It is
- 2:05Speaker 1: a three year deal worth reportedly a sixty nine million
- 2:08Speaker 1: dollars in maximum value, about twenty six million dollars guaranteed
- 2:12Speaker 1: of the numbers that Adam Schefter has reported as of
- 2:15Speaker 1: right now, so there's a lot to unpack with this
- 2:19Speaker 1: DIGS news. As always with this show, there's a draft
- 2:22Speaker 1: angle to everything, so we'll get to that. But I think,
- 2:25Speaker 1: just off the top, the overall reaction for me to
- 2:29Speaker 1: the DIGS news is a couple things. One, I just
- 2:32Speaker 1: like the fact that they're taking a little bit of
- 2:35Speaker 1: risk on with the player. I think sometimes they tend
- 2:40Speaker 1: to steer more towards deals where they won the deal.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know that it's a smart deal for the team,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and it's a deal that doesn't come with as many
- 2:50Speaker 1: potential issues or risks. And I'm not talking about his character,
- 2:55Speaker 1: his locker room makeup. I'm not worried about that kind
- 2:57Speaker 1: of stuff. But the knee injuries, the knee injury, and
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't want to keep on bringing it up over
- 3:02Speaker 1: and over again. So we can just right off the
- 3:05Speaker 1: top here say with this caveat, he is coming off
- 3:08Speaker 1: of torn acl. He suffered a torn acl last October,
- 3:11Speaker 1: in late October of twenty twenty four. And the reports
- 3:15Speaker 1: are optimistic. I think Schefter reported last night that he's
- 3:19Speaker 1: trending or on track to play Week one. That seems
- 3:23Speaker 1: very optimistic.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 3:25Speaker 1: That would be great news, but we'll see. But in general.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It got to the point in free agency for the
- 3:32Speaker 1: Patriots Alex where it just felt like they had to
- 3:34Speaker 1: do something like this, a wide receiver. They had to
- 3:36Speaker 1: take a chance on a Stefan Diggs and Amari Cooper,
- 3:41Speaker 1: a Keenan Allen, one of these receivers that's on the
- 3:44Speaker 1: wrong side of thirty that might have some flags to him,
- 3:48Speaker 1: he might have some issues with him, but the ceiling
- 3:51Speaker 1: of the player is so high and what he could
- 3:53Speaker 1: bring to your room is just so positive that as
- 3:57Speaker 1: a team like the Patriots that needs talent on the
- 4:00Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball, needs play making on the
- 4:01Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball, it was time to take
- 4:04Speaker 1: a risk like this. It was time to take us away.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and we had talked about this even when uh
- 4:11Speaker 3: Geez signed with the Seahawks Cooper Cup was still available. Yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 3: I'm so engross and armlean so much arm length. I know,
- 4:18Speaker 3: even when Cooper Cup was available, we talked about this,
- 4:20Speaker 3: like they needed to take a chance. And this isn't
- 4:22Speaker 3: a great signing in the sense that you know, you
- 4:24Speaker 3: go back to the beginning of the off season and
- 4:26Speaker 3: Stefan Diggs was this big prize right there was t Higgins,
- 4:30Speaker 3: DK Metcalf, et cetera, et cetera. But for where things
- 4:33Speaker 3: got once those guys came off the board, like you said,
- 4:36Speaker 3: they needed to take a shot. If you're taking a shot,
- 4:38Speaker 3: I'm all for upside at this point, and whether it
- 4:41Speaker 3: be Cup, whether it be Amari Cooper, whether it be
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know, some of these other guys that have moved.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I think Devanta Adams is maybe the one other guy
- 4:49Speaker 3: you argue just because he's healthy, But Diggs has as much,
- 4:52Speaker 3: if not more upside than anybody. Yeah, and that was available,
- 4:56Speaker 3: so we'll see whees at with the knee. The health
- 4:58Speaker 3: is the biggest concern for me, not the off field stuff.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I think that's very overblown. But they needed to take
- 5:05Speaker 3: a swing, and they took a swing, and if it
- 5:06Speaker 3: works out, you have a number one wide receiver. Diggs
- 5:10Speaker 3: has been one of the most underappreciated players in the
- 5:12Speaker 3: league for the last five years, and I think he'd
- 5:14Speaker 3: really have an opportunity to shine here if he's healthy.
- 5:17Speaker 3: If it doesn't work out, you talked about the winning
- 5:19Speaker 3: the deal thing. It's a little pricey, but like, don't
- 5:21Speaker 3: look at that sixty nine million dollar number. That's not
- 5:24Speaker 3: the number that matters. If he gets near that number,
- 5:28Speaker 3: it's worth it, like, because so much of that is
- 5:30Speaker 3: incentive based. If he's actually putting up the numbers to
- 5:33Speaker 3: earn that great awesome, nobody's gonna think twice about it.
- 5:36Speaker 3: The real number is the twenty six million, that's over
- 5:39Speaker 3: three years. My guess we haven't seen the details yet.
- 5:42Speaker 3: My guess is that twenty six million is really confined
- 5:44Speaker 3: to the first two years, so they'll take a little
- 5:47Speaker 3: bit of a hit, but nothing crippling if Digsny doesn't
- 5:51Speaker 3: hold up.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'm a little surprised I added the third year, But
- 5:55Speaker 1: my take on this last week, I wanted them to
- 5:57Speaker 1: add the second year. Yeah, because if it works out
- 6:00Speaker 1: and then you have another year removed from the ACL
- 6:03Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six, it could you could really have
- 6:05Speaker 1: two very very good years of Stefan Diggs. I really
- 6:09Speaker 1: tell we always hear you bounce back the second year
- 6:13Speaker 1: a little bit better off the ACL. So if he
- 6:16Speaker 1: comes in this year, has a nice season with Drake May,
- 6:19Speaker 1: then in twenty twenty six you might even get an
- 6:21Speaker 1: even better version of Stefan Diggs. So I like the
- 6:24Speaker 1: fact that they have some team control on the player
- 6:26Speaker 1: for a couple of years. A one year deal made
- 6:29Speaker 1: a lot of sense for Diggs. You know, come in,
- 6:31Speaker 1: get a one year deal, reset your market, show that
- 6:34Speaker 1: you can still play. That made a lot of sense
- 6:36Speaker 1: for Diggs. But I thought that it was it was
- 6:39Speaker 1: better for the team, for the Patriots to get some
- 6:41Speaker 1: term on the player so that you have him.
- 6:44Speaker 3: If it does hit, well, it's doesn't work out. And look,
- 6:47Speaker 3: if Diggs goes absolutely nuts, right, if he comes back
- 6:49Speaker 3: and he's the best receiver in football for the last
- 6:51Speaker 3: however many weeks the season he plays, yeah, he can
- 6:54Speaker 3: always ask for a new contract, right, that's on the table.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And again, if you're the Patriots, if that's what happens, great,
- 7:00Speaker 3: you've got unbelievable wide receiver play. So I just don't
- 7:05Speaker 3: I guess I don't think the downside is there in
- 7:08Speaker 3: signing him. There is a downside in it in that
- 7:12Speaker 3: he's not healthy, So that is a worry, and within that,
- 7:16Speaker 3: he's not gonna be on the field with Drake May
- 7:18Speaker 3: in the spring, in the summer, and they're gonna have
- 7:21Speaker 3: to really play catchup to get on the same page.
- 7:22Speaker 3: It might take them a couple of weeks to get
- 7:24Speaker 3: into it. But that's not a massive risk for the team.
- 7:27Speaker 3: If anything, you can look at the other side of
- 7:29Speaker 3: that and say, well, now there's more reps for the
- 7:31Speaker 3: young guys in camp, and you have the first four
- 7:33Speaker 3: or five weeks like there was last year with Kendrick Bourne,
- 7:35Speaker 3: to continue battling it out and figuring out who's gonna
- 7:38Speaker 3: win those spots. So I just look, it would have
- 7:42Speaker 3: been better if they could have added a guy that
- 7:43Speaker 3: had a bit higher of a floor or a higher
- 7:45Speaker 3: floor wasn't hurt. Obviously, this isn't the best case scenario
- 7:48Speaker 3: for the terms of the offseason, but we've seen We
- 7:53Speaker 3: kind of saw this last year when they missed out
- 7:54Speaker 3: on the initial wave. There was just nothing. Yeah, and
- 7:58Speaker 3: this is Mike Vrabel talked about them. You know, on
- 8:01Speaker 3: a plan A, you gotta go to Plan B, you
- 8:02Speaker 3: gotta go to Plan C. You got to adjust. You
- 8:04Speaker 3: can't just miss out on what you want and walk
- 8:08Speaker 3: home with your head down, right. You still have to
- 8:10Speaker 3: be able to adjust and find ways to work, And
- 8:12Speaker 3: that's what they did here. I don't think Diggs was
- 8:14Speaker 3: probably at the top of their list coming into the
- 8:15Speaker 3: off season, but I think he was on their list.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Their priorities were were elsewhere. Right. We know they were
- 8:21Speaker 3: in on Chris Godwin and you know from there it
- 8:25Speaker 3: was just focus on defense and Milton Williams gets a
- 8:28Speaker 3: lot of money and all that. But they were able
- 8:30Speaker 3: to adjust and come back and they got a guy
- 8:32Speaker 3: that can be an answer at that position in the
- 8:35Speaker 3: short term. I still think we're doing wide receivers in
- 8:37Speaker 3: the first round in the draft next year. Diggs isn't
- 8:39Speaker 3: a long term answer, but you get Drake May somebody
- 8:42Speaker 3: for this year that's certainly not nothing.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the last a big picture thought. Then I want
- 8:47Speaker 1: to get into some of the minutia about his role
- 8:49Speaker 1: and fit with McDaniels and all that stuff. The proof
- 8:53Speaker 1: of concept thing sticks out to me as well. In
- 8:56Speaker 1: a couple of different angles. You have, like you just said,
- 8:59Speaker 1: a proven commodity at receiver that elevates the talent level
- 9:04Speaker 1: of the offense to the point where Drake May is
- 9:06Speaker 1: in swimming upstream as much. Right, he's got some help now,
- 9:09Speaker 1: he's got a guy that he can rely on, a
- 9:11Speaker 1: guy that has a proven resume in the NFL, that
- 9:15Speaker 1: is a very good route runner, that's a very good
- 9:17Speaker 1: possession receiver, that's caught one hundred passes? Was it six
- 9:22Speaker 1: straight years one thousand yard receiver? And I think was
- 9:24Speaker 1: four with one hundred catch or something like that. And
- 9:27Speaker 1: so you have a lot of that and I think
- 9:29Speaker 1: that that's going to help down the line. Like let's
- 9:32Speaker 1: say this does work out with Stefan Diggs, and now
- 9:36Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six, the Patriots are a little bit
- 9:39Speaker 1: more desirable. They're a little bit more desirable. They have
- 9:42Speaker 1: a one B or a very good two in Stefan Diggs.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, Now, do they land that big big fish?
- 9:50Speaker 1: You know, do they land a t Higgins level talent
- 9:54Speaker 1: right at that position? So you have be a true
- 9:57Speaker 1: number one elite receiver? Do they somebody? And now all
- 10:01Speaker 1: of a sudden at the combine, Elliott Wolf mentioned that
- 10:05Speaker 1: they thought they put too much on Jalen Polk's plate.
- 10:08Speaker 1: That they they thought they he kind of had the
- 10:11Speaker 1: pressure of being the savior, right, And I think right now,
- 10:15Speaker 1: if you draft somebody, whether it's first round, second round,
- 10:17Speaker 1: third round, whenever, when you add that rookie in, that
- 10:21Speaker 1: rookie is not expected to come in and save the day, right,
- 10:24Speaker 1: He's expected to be a running mate with Stefan Dicks
- 10:27Speaker 1: not the savior of the offense. I think there's something
- 10:31Speaker 1: to be said for that that it takes some of
- 10:33Speaker 1: the pressure off of some of the younger receivers to
- 10:36Speaker 1: come in here and all of a sudden be these
- 10:38Speaker 1: bona fide stars, uh to be that guy for the Patriots,
- 10:41Speaker 1: to be that true number one guy for New England.
- 10:44Speaker 1: The other angle of it to me, as well, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 1: along with all these other things, is just when I
- 10:51Speaker 1: look at their offense right now and I look at
- 10:53Speaker 1: their depth chart offensively, I'm starting I'm starting to feel
- 10:57Speaker 1: pretty good about the ingredients that are giving Josh McDaniels. Now,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about arm lengths at nauseum here in
- 11:04Speaker 1: a minute, yes, and we're gonna talk about left tackles
- 11:07Speaker 1: here in a minute. And to me, when I look
- 11:09Speaker 1: at their depth chart, they're a left tackle away from
- 11:14Speaker 1: being operational on offense. I'm not saying they're gonna be
- 11:17Speaker 1: top five on offense. I'm not gonna say they're gonna
- 11:19Speaker 1: be top ten.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I don't.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'm not gonna put those qualifiers in there, but representative,
- 11:24Speaker 1: they are gonna be up and running on that side
- 11:27Speaker 1: of the ball. They're gonna have a playmaker and digs
- 11:30Speaker 1: that they can move around, that they can use in
- 11:32Speaker 1: different ways, that they can get open, that they can
- 11:35Speaker 1: feed the rock to in a high volume role.
- 11:37Speaker 3: They have a young.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Quarterback that we all feel pretty good about. If they
- 11:40Speaker 1: just have a representable offensive line with a left tackle
- 11:44Speaker 1: that can just play the position at an NFL level,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you start to feel good about a really good offensive
- 11:49Speaker 1: coordinator in Josh McDaniels making that thing hump, like, making
- 11:54Speaker 1: all those pieces work. So it's all positive right now.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I believe with with Steffan Diggs and this move, I
- 12:02Speaker 1: don't really see a ton of downside to the to
- 12:06Speaker 1: the point of risk for the team. Like, yes, there's
- 12:09Speaker 1: downside that he doesn't bounce back from the injury and
- 12:12Speaker 1: he's not the same player. That downside obviously exists. But
- 12:16Speaker 1: the risk in terms of long term effect on the
- 12:19Speaker 1: cap or on the cash or any of those different things,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I just don't think that it's a that it's really
- 12:24Speaker 1: gonna come back to bite them if he's not if
- 12:27Speaker 1: he's not the old Steffan Diggs. You know, if he's
- 12:29Speaker 1: not the old Steffan Diggs, you move on, you know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you rip up the last two years and you move on.
- 12:34Speaker 3: It's it's a very manageable cap hit in twenty twenty six.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I would bet there's no dead money in twenty twenty seven.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Okay, So just to get into some more of the
- 12:43Speaker 1: me new share about this with Diggs. The other thing
- 12:45Speaker 1: that I find interesting is how exactly he is going
- 12:49Speaker 1: to be deployed in Josh mcdaniels's offense. So Diggs has
- 12:55Speaker 1: always been a very versatile receiver. Can play inside, can
- 12:59Speaker 1: play outside, can play the X, can play the Z,
- 13:01Speaker 1: can play the slot. You can move him around all
- 13:04Speaker 1: over the place. In Houston, his usage changed slightly and
- 13:10Speaker 1: that obviously stems from Nico Collins being really their outside
- 13:14Speaker 1: guy with the Texans and being their X receiver, So
- 13:19Speaker 1: he played a lot more in the slot. He played
- 13:22Speaker 1: a lot more in the Z or away from press coverage,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and really I think the more important thing is that
- 13:29Speaker 1: he was more of a chain mover in that offense.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He was not a big play guy for that offense.
- 13:35Speaker 1: He was the guy that on third and six was
- 13:37Speaker 1: getting them seven yards. His career low and average air
- 13:41Speaker 1: yards per target was last season. He only averaged eight
- 13:44Speaker 1: point three yards per target through the air, it was
- 13:48Speaker 1: two yards less than his last season in Buffalo, So
- 13:51Speaker 1: that's a pretty big difference. That's a really really big difference.
- 13:55Speaker 1: So what he went from in Buffalo was obviously the guy,
- 14:00Speaker 1: but also a guy that was running by people and
- 14:03Speaker 1: making big plays all over the field with Josh Allen.
- 14:05Speaker 1: What he went to in Houston was much more of
- 14:08Speaker 1: a chain mover, possession receiver or whatever you want to
- 14:11Speaker 1: call it. And when I look at McDaniels and his history,
- 14:16Speaker 1: especially with those inside receivers, you know, not all inside
- 14:20Speaker 1: receivers are slots, you know, all of them are created equal,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but guys that are play inside the formation for the
- 14:26Speaker 1: most part, that's the high volume role in Josh mcdaniels's offense.
- 14:30Speaker 1: The high volume role is the Julian Edelman, Wes Welker,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Troy Brown, Deon Brand's role.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm expecting them to put Stefan Diggs in
- 14:40Speaker 1: that role and it might not look exactly like it
- 14:42Speaker 1: did with Julian Edelman, Like you might not be running
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know, juke routs and you know, quick hitters and
- 14:47Speaker 1: quick changes of directions and things like that. It might
- 14:49Speaker 1: be its own iteration of that, but moving digs around,
- 14:54Speaker 1: hunting matchups for digs, getting him into the middle of
- 14:57Speaker 1: the formation where he can go up against some linebacker
- 15:00Speaker 1: and safeties on occasion, using him in motion, using him
- 15:03Speaker 1: out of stacks, you know, two receiver stacks, three receiver
- 15:06Speaker 1: bunch alignments, everything that you can do, all those bells
- 15:09Speaker 1: and whistles that McDaniels uses to get receivers open and
- 15:12Speaker 1: get them favorable opportunities down the field to get open.
- 15:16Speaker 1: That to me is gonna be Stefan Diggs. So I'm
- 15:19Speaker 1: sure he'll play some on the outside, no doubt about that.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Maybe there are opportunities where they like him in certain
- 15:25Speaker 1: matchups at the X, you know, playing on the back
- 15:27Speaker 1: side of the coverage one on one. But I really
- 15:30Speaker 1: look at him as an engine of the offense type
- 15:33Speaker 1: player within this offense, and if you're you're gonna get
- 15:36Speaker 1: the most out of him. I think he plays in
- 15:39Speaker 1: that high volume inside receiver role that we've seen McDaniels
- 15:42Speaker 1: have everywhere he goes. You know, it was Jacobe Myers
- 15:45Speaker 1: at the end here edel Min obviously passed the torch
- 15:47Speaker 1: to Myers. Now I believe it's gonna be Steffan Diggs.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I think that's good. That being said, if I just
- 15:54Speaker 1: had to say, you know, the one not flaw, but
- 15:57Speaker 1: the one thing that I would look at with that,
- 16:00Speaker 1: they're still kind of missing that prototypical X in my mind,
- 16:03Speaker 1: you know, the true yeah, guy that can play on
- 16:05Speaker 1: the outside consistently, beat backside coverage, beat one on one
- 16:09Speaker 1: coverage consistently, and ideally someone that has some size and
- 16:13Speaker 1: some speed, Like they don't really have a ton of
- 16:15Speaker 1: that right now. You know, if you figure that, it's
- 16:17Speaker 1: gonna be Digs Pop Douglas and then a competition probably
- 16:22Speaker 1: ad X between MATC Collins, Kishan Boodie, maybe Javon Baker
- 16:25Speaker 1: gets in there, Rookie Hunter Henry, Like, that's gonna be
- 16:29Speaker 1: sort of your core group. You could use some speed
- 16:32Speaker 1: down the field, and you could use some size. But
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'm really intrigued by the idea of Diggs playing a
- 16:37Speaker 1: little bit more as like a movable chess piece in
- 16:40Speaker 1: this McDaniels offense, like he's used those receivers I've mentioned
- 16:44Speaker 1: in the past, versus this guy's just gonna play outside.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He's gonna play X, you know, seventy times a game
- 16:50Speaker 1: and go one on one all game long. I just
- 16:53Speaker 1: like the idea of him moving around a little bit more.
- 16:54Speaker 3: No, there's definitely versatility there. I wonder if they try
- 16:57Speaker 3: to reroute some of the traditional inside ste off to
- 17:00Speaker 3: an outside position where Diggs is kind of running some
- 17:03Speaker 3: of those slot assignments, but he's doing so from an
- 17:06Speaker 3: outside alignment. Yeah, and now we're really.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Well they could do that from like a condensed formation, especially,
- 17:12Speaker 1: so that's what they did a lot in Houston. So
- 17:14Speaker 1: you run condensed splits, which means that your receivers, your
- 17:17Speaker 1: outside receiver are actually inside the numbers, yeah, versus your
- 17:22Speaker 1: outside receiver being on the numbers or even in a
- 17:25Speaker 1: really exaggerated wide split outside the numbers. So a lot
- 17:29Speaker 1: of these new offenses, especially you know the McVeigh Shanahan tree,
- 17:33Speaker 1: a lot of those offenses run in condensed formations, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: that allows you to have the freedom to all the
- 17:40Speaker 1: space right to run into it too the sideline, versus
- 17:43Speaker 1: being you know, pinned up against the sideline.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So I wonder if there's a way to do some
- 17:48Speaker 3: of that. But I think that the downfield threat the
- 17:52Speaker 3: speed is obviously gonna be the question coming off the ACL,
- 17:55Speaker 3: Like you talked about how helpfully can be there. But
- 17:57Speaker 3: he's one of these guys that as he's gotten older,
- 17:59Speaker 3: he's got a lot craft here, right. He has a
- 18:01Speaker 3: better understanding of the game, what's going on, things like that,
- 18:04Speaker 3: and he can kind of mentally get himself open even
- 18:08Speaker 3: if he's not the most explosive player anymore. So I'm
- 18:11Speaker 3: looking forward to see how McDaniels uses him. I don't
- 18:13Speaker 3: know if you want to get into what this means
- 18:16Speaker 3: for the draft as kind of a transition, because to me,
- 18:21Speaker 3: this doesn't change anything for them at the top of
- 18:23Speaker 3: the draft now if it changes anything draft approach wise,
- 18:26Speaker 3: for me, it's like taking that guy between forty in
- 18:32Speaker 3: a hut, like between call it fifty and one hundred
- 18:34Speaker 3: and fifty, who's just gonna kind of be in that
- 18:37Speaker 3: middle mix with Booty and Polk and Baker and burn.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I'm good there. I know you said you'd like to
- 18:42Speaker 3: kind of bring as many guys into camp as possible,
- 18:44Speaker 3: but let the guys you have compete. You have equal players.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Riz you know, at sixty nine, at seventy seven, you
- 18:50Speaker 3: can get maybe a starting guard, or you can get
- 18:52Speaker 3: a good running back, or you can get a safety,
- 18:54Speaker 3: or you can get a guy that you know is
- 18:56Speaker 3: going to make an impact right away versus well, you know,
- 18:59Speaker 3: we don't even sure because you look at this draft
- 19:01Speaker 3: it's similar player to Jalen Polk, right. So where I
- 19:04Speaker 3: was at with quarterbacks last year is kind of where
- 19:06Speaker 3: I'm at with receivers. Now. Take either guy you know
- 19:09Speaker 3: is gonna be one two on the depth chart or
- 19:11Speaker 3: a true project round six or seven. I don't really
- 19:14Speaker 3: have any need for the guys in the middle. But
- 19:16Speaker 3: it doesn't change anything at the top because I think
- 19:18Speaker 3: Digs one. Digs is a bridge two. Even in the
- 19:21Speaker 3: shorter term. I think Digs and Hunter, and I'm still
- 19:24Speaker 3: drafting Hunter as a receiver. Yeah, Digs and Hunter can
- 19:27Speaker 3: probably play off each other well. And if you're coming
- 19:30Speaker 3: out in eleven with Digs, Hunter, and Pop, yeah, that's
- 19:34Speaker 3: a real group. That's a real legit group. So I
- 19:38Speaker 3: like that's where I'm kind of not just Digs in
- 19:41Speaker 3: his own because we're doing this exercise last night, and
- 19:44Speaker 3: this is in the wake right of the Giant signing
- 19:46Speaker 3: Russell Wilson, which feels like it happened ten years ago. Yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 3: and that got everybody all hot and bothered about Travis Hunter.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So I'm looking through it in the lens last night.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I wasn't even doing just the dig stuff. Really, it
- 19:57Speaker 3: was all right, So you're gonna have digs as kind
- 19:59Speaker 3: of like a small shiftier X. You're gonna have Hunter
- 20:03Speaker 3: in the Z probably doing stuff over the middle, and
- 20:06Speaker 3: you're gonna have Pops stretching the field vertically from the
- 20:08Speaker 3: slot or something like that. Like that's how I was
- 20:10Speaker 3: looking at because if you put those three together, I
- 20:13Speaker 3: think McDaniel's he's gonna get in the lab. He's gonna
- 20:16Speaker 3: have a lot of fun if you give them those three,
- 20:17Speaker 3: and then it's you know, Booty or Polk or Born
- 20:20Speaker 3: kind of rounding out the depth chart as your fourth
- 20:22Speaker 3: and fifth guy at mac Collins as your your depth receivers.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. It doesn't change anything at the top
- 20:28Speaker 1: of the draft in terms of who you're targeting, Like
- 20:30Speaker 1: if Travis Hunter is there, you're still taking Travis Hunter.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing though, to me again is
- 20:36Speaker 1: I don't want to get too caught up on the
- 20:38Speaker 1: speed thing. I know I tend to do that, and
- 20:40Speaker 1: I also just don't want to if you think of
- 20:43Speaker 1: another if you think Ted McMillan's a better football player
- 20:45Speaker 1: than you should draft Ted McMillan. You shouldn't go ahead
- 20:48Speaker 1: and draft I can't, you know, Matthew Golden just because
- 20:53Speaker 1: he's fast.
- 20:54Speaker 3: And I even say, like, does this make McMillan more
- 20:58Speaker 3: of a fit, because now you have that right and
- 21:00Speaker 3: now digs is your Z or popsters, he digs your
- 21:03Speaker 3: slot whatever you want to up. But like X Y
- 21:06Speaker 3: Z that that's the ABCD, that's a lot more tradition,
- 21:10Speaker 3: Like that would be the traditional right if you add
- 21:13Speaker 3: Teed McMillan to it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So my fear with with that though, and again I
- 21:17Speaker 1: don't want to.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Harp to that being receiver. For that being McMillan specific.
- 21:22Speaker 1: McMillan specifically, I think you're really slow. I think you're
- 21:26Speaker 1: slow in terms of being able to stretch the field vertically.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I don't know if Diggs is that guy anymore now.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Maybe maybe they just used him differently in Houston and
- 21:35Speaker 1: he's going to go back to being more of a
- 21:36Speaker 1: vertical threat like he was in Buffalo. But in Houston,
- 21:39Speaker 1: like I mentioned, you know, the air arts per target,
- 21:41Speaker 1: the role of the slot usage, all that increase, and
- 21:44Speaker 1: he really turned into a first and second level receiver.
- 21:47Speaker 1: He was a short and intermediate guy. And I want
- 21:50Speaker 1: to put that out there because I want to make
- 21:51Speaker 1: sure that that the listeners and everybody like you understand
- 21:54Speaker 1: who they're getting. They're not getting a burner over that's
- 21:58Speaker 1: gonna make that's going to separate over the top. What
- 22:00Speaker 1: about his game?
- 22:00Speaker 3: What about Pop? Is the field stretcher from the inside.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Pop's fast like Pop hass speed?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Pop has speed? You know you always worry about guys
- 22:08Speaker 1: with Pop in terms of stretching the field vertically is
- 22:10Speaker 1: like catch radius and ability to win at the catch
- 22:13Speaker 1: point when it is contested.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I contested catch maybe not. He's got pretty good ball
- 22:17Speaker 3: skills though he's made some great catches like fall into
- 22:20Speaker 3: the ground, Yes, turning his shoulders so you're not throwing
- 22:23Speaker 3: him jump balls, but isn't if you're worried about jump balls.
- 22:27Speaker 3: You're going size over speed anyway. The idea is he's
- 22:29Speaker 3: running past people. Yeah, and that's how he's stretching the field.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, No, there's a possibility there, Travis Hunter, to me
- 22:35Speaker 1: and Stefan Diggs together, it starts to get it's like
- 22:38Speaker 1: getting me a little hot in here right like that?
- 22:41Speaker 1: That right there is as good as it could get.
- 22:43Speaker 1: In terms of the Patriots, those two guys are interchangeable.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You can play them both at the X, you can
- 22:49Speaker 1: play them both inside. You talk about play speed, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 1: obviously Travis Hunter has plenty of that, plenty of downfield
- 22:55Speaker 1: ball skills, plenty of play speed to stretch the field vertically.
- 22:59Speaker 1: That would be a really tough group to cover. That'd
- 23:02Speaker 1: be a truly tough group to cover with both. All
- 23:05Speaker 1: three of those guys are separators, now different styles.
- 23:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Hunter is a separator because he's a great athlete. Diggs
- 23:12Speaker 1: is a great route runner and a savvy, crafty route runner.
- 23:15Speaker 1: That's how he separates. And then Pop is like the bursty,
- 23:18Speaker 1: you know, jitterbug. But they all separate at a high level,
- 23:21Speaker 1: all three of them. Ted McMillan, I've had my reservations
- 23:24Speaker 1: about his speed to begin with. Again, if they really
- 23:27Speaker 1: feel like he's the best player at that position and
- 23:29Speaker 1: they're going receiver at the top of the draft, I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: not gonna sit here and say draft a guy you
- 23:34Speaker 1: have a lesser grade on just because he ran a
- 23:36Speaker 1: four two nine aka Matthew Golden Right, gonna harp on it.
- 23:40Speaker 1: But I do think that you are still lacking in
- 23:43Speaker 1: terms of down the field speed, especially from the outside
- 23:46Speaker 1: like tech and stretch the field. In the middle, he
- 23:47Speaker 1: runs the scene, runs a deep post from the slot, whatever.
- 23:50Speaker 1: But when he plays on the outside, he has trouble
- 23:53Speaker 1: pulling away from guys on the outside. And I don't
- 23:56Speaker 1: know if Diggs is that guy anymore to do that.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Pop's certainly not that guy to play outside and pull
- 24:01Speaker 1: away from people. But it's an exciting combination regardless with
- 24:06Speaker 1: all these options. Now, if we're talking draft though, and
- 24:13Speaker 1: obviously the Will Campbell stuff is out there, but when
- 24:16Speaker 1: I look at this offense right now, I really feel
- 24:21Speaker 1: as though left tackle is like the one albatross in
- 24:24Speaker 1: the room, right that's like the one glaring hole that's
- 24:27Speaker 1: staring at you. I still think they need more talent receiver.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I still think they need a younger receiver than Stefan Diggs.
- 24:33Speaker 1: That has some ceiling and some upside, certainly, But when
- 24:37Speaker 1: I look at this offense right now for twenty twenty five,
- 24:41Speaker 1: if you get them a viable starting left tackle and
- 24:45Speaker 1: you give that to McDaniel's on top of what they
- 24:47Speaker 1: already have on paper offensively, maybe you sprinkle in some
- 24:50Speaker 1: spice running back in the middle rounds something like that,
- 24:54Speaker 1: to add a little bit more juice to the offense
- 24:57Speaker 1: in a different area of the field. Maybe it's a
- 24:59Speaker 1: tight end something like that. I think you're really cooking
- 25:02Speaker 1: with gas. So I think you're really cooking with gas
- 25:04Speaker 1: if you have a viable left side.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Of the audics. The problem is there's not many viable
- 25:08Speaker 3: left tackles available. Sure, Tyron Williams, Tyron Smith, sorry's the
- 25:12Speaker 3: one in freegency. And that's even a maybe like would
- 25:14Speaker 3: he come here? Diggs signing probably helps. I wanted one
- 25:17Speaker 3: more thing on Diggs. And when it comes to rookie receivers,
- 25:19Speaker 3: especially with the guy like Travis Hunter, how much do
- 25:21Speaker 3: you put on Digs being like a mentor for some
- 25:23Speaker 3: of the younger guys, And doesn't he kind of feel
- 25:27Speaker 3: like a more favorable mentor for a guy like Travis
- 25:31Speaker 3: Hunter because those two at least prime Digs. He's not
- 25:34Speaker 3: that player anymore, but prime Digs played similarly to I
- 25:37Speaker 3: think the way you're gonna want Travis Hunter.
- 25:38Speaker 1: To play absolutely, I mean I love that, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I love the fact that he can come in here,
- 25:42Speaker 1: even mentor although some of us, not me but you know,
- 25:45Speaker 1: some people have given up on Jalen Polk and Javon Baker,
- 25:48Speaker 1: But bringing in a guy like Stefan Diggs to mentor
- 25:51Speaker 1: even those guys, I think is important and it could
- 25:53Speaker 1: be valuable. So I look at across the board, just
- 25:57Speaker 1: having somebody that you can look at and say, yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 1: this guy's done in this at an extremely high level.
- 26:02Speaker 1: This is how he goes about his business. And I
- 26:04Speaker 1: think when we talk about a lot of this mentor stuff,
- 26:07Speaker 1: we're talking about really you know, like Monday through Saturday, right, Like,
- 26:10Speaker 1: how does this guy go about his business? How does
- 26:13Speaker 1: he train, how does he practice, how does he prepare,
- 26:16Speaker 1: how does he watch tape? You know, all these different
- 26:18Speaker 1: types of things that go into being a professional receiver.
- 26:21Speaker 1: When you have a guy like Diggs who has a
- 26:23Speaker 1: routine that obviously works at a very very high level,
- 26:27Speaker 1: it's extremely beneficial to young players.
- 26:29Speaker 3: So I only have one real question about the Stefan
- 26:32Speaker 3: Digg signing them. Worried about what numbers are gonna wear?
- 26:36Speaker 1: That's fair question.
- 26:37Speaker 3: So Splaine was Splain has fourteen, which he wore in
- 26:40Speaker 3: Minnesota and Buffalo. Yeah, he did wear one in Houston.
- 26:43Speaker 3: E Wharton College so you talk about mentoring Jalen Pole
- 26:47Speaker 3: gives him one right start off on, I'm gonna give
- 26:49Speaker 3: you one, and in exchange, you're gonna teach me everything
- 26:52Speaker 3: you know, teach me your ways Yoda, right exactly, Like
- 26:54Speaker 3: that should be the trade off. And then polk Get's
- 26:56Speaker 3: like sixteen or something.
- 26:58Speaker 1: So I like that, that's not bad. A couple other
- 27:02Speaker 1: things about the draft before we get into Will Campbell
- 27:04Speaker 1: of at all, Yeah, just talking about Day two receivers
- 27:08Speaker 1: that would fit now at this offense. I'm gonna go
- 27:12Speaker 1: to the speed guys a little.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Bit, like you know what I'm gonna ask you when
- 27:15Speaker 3: you name them, but go ahead.
- 27:17Speaker 1: But I still feel I still like Jayden Higgins as
- 27:22Speaker 1: a player. But I still feel the same way that
- 27:24Speaker 1: I kind of feel about Tech McMillan. It just feels
- 27:26Speaker 1: like you have a lot of guys that are gonna
- 27:29Speaker 1: try to win on slants and digs, right, Like, you
- 27:32Speaker 1: can't have a whole offensive slants and digs. You have
- 27:34Speaker 1: to have somebody else that can do something down the
- 27:36Speaker 1: field at the third level. I don't think he's necessarily
- 27:39Speaker 1: that guy either. I think he's more of what we
- 27:41Speaker 1: talk about with Tep McMillan like a souped up possession receiver.
- 27:45Speaker 1: When I say souped up, I mean just a large
- 27:47Speaker 1: possession receiver with Jaden Higgins. So you start to get
- 27:51Speaker 1: into you know, Royals, right, I think is a good
- 27:55Speaker 1: field stretcher. I don't know how you feel. We haven't
- 27:57Speaker 1: really talked too much about him.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm okay on him. At that point, you're probably
- 28:04Speaker 3: gonna get him, you know, back end of the third
- 28:07Speaker 3: Can you wait till the top of the force and
- 28:08Speaker 3: take Kaile Williams at that point? Sure?
- 28:11Speaker 1: So Jalen Royals from Utah State is who we're talking about.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Who's a real a true burner, you know, he is
- 28:17Speaker 1: a true vertical threat. Doesn't necessarily have great size, but
- 28:22Speaker 1: as great speed and has big plays all over his
- 28:26Speaker 1: film at Utah State. But against good opponents as well.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It's not all just against.
- 28:31Speaker 3: What was that the Mac or whatever mountain state in
- 28:33Speaker 3: West the Mac is like.
- 28:36Speaker 1: So that they don't know it's not all against you know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: bad competition. Uh, he's a good player. I think he's
- 28:43Speaker 1: got some speed, he's got some juice. You know, I'm
- 28:47Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Bring up isaiabah All right fast. And you know, I'm
- 28:50Speaker 3: gonna bring up a fast and.
- 28:52Speaker 1: But if you're looking at the way that this offense
- 28:55Speaker 1: is built, like they kind of just need fast, but they.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Go sign, Go find whoever this year's demere bird is
- 29:01Speaker 3: in free agency and sign that guy. You don't need
- 29:03Speaker 3: to use a top one hundred pick on that guy.
- 29:05Speaker 3: If you're just looking for guys you like to say,
- 29:07Speaker 3: who's gonna run wind sprints back and forth to make
- 29:09Speaker 3: sure the other team keeps too safeties back, you don't
- 29:12Speaker 3: need to use a top one hundred pick on that guy.
- 29:15Speaker 1: All right, fair enough. I don't know if this is
- 29:19Speaker 1: if he's truly an outside guy. With Kyle Williams, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: know he's picking up a lot of a lot of steam.
- 29:23Speaker 1: You know he's a popular guy right now, Yeah, in
- 29:27Speaker 1: the draft community. But Kyle Williams to me still feels undersized.
- 29:33Speaker 3: You just want a guy to run up and down.
- 29:36Speaker 1: But he's in the he's in, he's on the list.
- 29:38Speaker 3: You know who is still a free agent? You want
- 29:40Speaker 3: somebody in that role? Who's that? Could we call it
- 29:42Speaker 3: the what do you want to call this role? The
- 29:44Speaker 3: I feel like the mere bird's an under cell. Who
- 29:48Speaker 3: else had it. I don't know.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I mean, like Philip Dorsett. I guess who else That's
- 29:53Speaker 1: all I got right now?
- 29:54Speaker 3: Nelson Nelson still a free agent.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Okay, well, I don't think Nelson Aguilar has got the
- 29:59Speaker 1: got the juice like he once did.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Philip Dorsettroll is probably better way to put it.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Uh, how do you feel about Saveon Williams?
- 30:06Speaker 3: Oh? I was gonna ask you about that.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Because it kind of makes sense now at this group
- 30:11Speaker 1: it does.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's not He's.
- 30:14Speaker 1: A he's got a little bit more receivers, like he
- 30:18Speaker 1: gets all the Quardill Patterson comps for obvious reasons. But
- 30:22Speaker 1: he's got a little bit more receiver's skill, I would say,
- 30:25Speaker 1: especially uh, contested catch and like leaping about.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but I worry about the hands. I guess you're
- 30:30Speaker 3: not gonna have. You're not gonna have running a diverse
- 30:32Speaker 3: route tree, so the route running doesn't matter as much.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yep, he's gonna run, go ball, Go ball.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I really like I was working on this take this week.
- 30:39Speaker 3: You remember my take about Joe Milton last year, like
- 30:41Speaker 3: the not the thing about eighty yards that Joe Milton
- 30:44Speaker 3: was the most interesting player in the draft, Yeah, it
- 30:47Speaker 3: was the most entertaining player in the draft. I think
- 30:49Speaker 3: Savian Williams has that title this year. I think Savian
- 30:52Speaker 3: Williams's most entertaining player in this draft. But I just
- 30:56Speaker 3: with there and I know it's new staff there, history
- 30:57Speaker 3: of developing my receivers and all that. From where he's
- 30:59Speaker 3: gon go for where he's gonna go, I think his
- 31:02Speaker 3: success is as a gadget player at that. If you're
- 31:05Speaker 3: just looking for big and fast and I'm doing Taekwon again,
- 31:09Speaker 3: do you just go Dante Thornton.
- 31:10Speaker 1: So he's gonna I was gonna get to him, But
- 31:12Speaker 1: Savion Williams really quickly. I just the one thing that
- 31:16Speaker 1: stood out to me when I watched him is that
- 31:18Speaker 1: he's a little bit more refined at the catch point
- 31:21Speaker 1: than I was expecting, right, Like I was really expecting
- 31:24Speaker 1: Cordell Patterson, who is really not a receiver. He's probably
- 31:28Speaker 1: better as a running back, honestly, Yeah, Patterson. When you
- 31:31Speaker 1: watch Savian Williams, you mentioned the drops. He has some
- 31:35Speaker 1: really bad focus drops where like he's just open, the
- 31:39Speaker 1: ball hits him on the hands and when forever reason
- 31:41Speaker 1: he drops it, he's like he's he's like Marcus Smart.
- 31:44Speaker 1: He makes the most ridiculous shots you've ever seen, and
- 31:47Speaker 1: then when he has a freaking layup, he blows the
- 31:50Speaker 1: bunny right Like that's Savian Williams. He is a really
- 31:53Speaker 1: good down the field, high point, go get the ball
- 31:57Speaker 1: type of receiver.
- 31:58Speaker 3: He's also really good with the ball in his hands.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and then when you throw him a slant and
- 32:02Speaker 1: there's nobody within five yards of him, he'll just drop
- 32:04Speaker 1: it and you're you are left scratch.
- 32:06Speaker 3: I just I worry about that guy here, especially with
- 32:08Speaker 3: a young quarterback. I just don't know that that's I
- 32:11Speaker 3: really like him. I'm perfectly content watching him succeed somewhere
- 32:15Speaker 3: else if they if they pass on him and he
- 32:17Speaker 3: goes somewhere else and he has success, I'm not gonna
- 32:19Speaker 3: fault them for it. That's a tough projection, all right.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I'd be more like, you know, I'm more in a
- 32:24Speaker 3: group of like I don't want to take away too
- 32:26Speaker 3: much for me. It's like Dante Thornton, I was ty
- 32:28Speaker 3: Felton on there ye Mary d k from Florida Deep
- 32:33Speaker 3: getting a little deep. That's kind of where I'm taking
- 32:36Speaker 3: a receiver.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Though, So Dante Thornton's interesting. Yeah, Now if they draft
- 32:39Speaker 1: Dante Thornton, who ran like a four to three and
- 32:43Speaker 1: his last name is Thornton, you don't even if you
- 32:45Speaker 1: know that, you know what everybody's gonna say. Right, it's
- 32:49Speaker 1: and I mean it's gonna be automatic.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Five eight two o five four three flat.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Fur.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I didn't realize he was only five eight sorry, six
- 32:56Speaker 1: six five. I don't know what I was looking at
- 32:58Speaker 1: a five five eight. The hand size says five eighths.
- 33:02Speaker 1: It's right below it six six five two five four three. Yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 1: we're doing we're doing Thornton again. No, we're not doing
- 33:10Speaker 1: Thornton again. No, because he's he's bigger. He's he's bigger.
- 33:13Speaker 1: He's built bigger than taekwan Thorn by a lot. What
- 33:16Speaker 1: do you mean by a ton two? He doesn't look though, Okay,
- 33:20Speaker 1: but if he's if he's one hundred and ninety, he's still.
- 33:22Speaker 3: That's okay, that's fair.
- 33:24Speaker 1: He's still he's got more mass than Taekwon uh Thortondo.
- 33:29Speaker 3: But he also played at Oregon before he played at Tennessee.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yeah, he but he plays fast like it's it's not
- 33:35Speaker 1: just a forty time when you turn on the tape
- 33:37Speaker 1: with him, he runs well, you know, he is a
- 33:39Speaker 1: true take the top off the defense kind of guy.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Uh.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I just those are some of the names that I
- 33:44Speaker 1: had on my list. If you're you're really looking for
- 33:47Speaker 1: a specific type of receiver. Again, if you're going in
- 33:50Speaker 1: the first round, you're just taking the best receiver available,
- 33:52Speaker 1: Like if it's TEP McMillan, it's Tech McMillan. Uh, you're
- 33:55Speaker 1: just going with the best guy. But when you start
- 33:57Speaker 1: to get down the board a little bit, if you
- 33:59Speaker 1: want to be a bit more picky about the skill
- 34:01Speaker 1: set and making sure that it fits with what you have. Uh,
- 34:04Speaker 1: Dante Thornton, like early on day three, maybe you.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Know like a couple yea years ago, sell me on
- 34:09Speaker 3: that a couple.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Of years ago they would have reached on him and
- 34:11Speaker 1: taken him in the second round, right, But.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I I I don't need a wide receiver at like
- 34:15Speaker 3: sixty nine or seventy seven or even one oh six.
- 34:18Speaker 3: After that it makes more sense. So again, Felton Thornton,
- 34:22Speaker 3: you're you're sleeping on tre mariy dk.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Okay from Flora.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I don't know if you've watched him at all now
- 34:27Speaker 3: six one, six, four, three, four. Uh, he's really good
- 34:32Speaker 3: at beating press, getting down the fields, getting open contested catches.
- 34:36Speaker 3: That's kind of it. You're not gonna run him underneath.
- 34:39Speaker 3: He's not gonna give you a lot after the catch.
- 34:41Speaker 3: His hands aren't He's not quite as bad as save
- 34:43Speaker 3: on Wims, but his hands aren't great. But he's gonna
- 34:46Speaker 3: go down the fields and run fast and make plays
- 34:48Speaker 3: on the football. So if you're just looking for somebody
- 34:50Speaker 3: to do that and you can get him, probably you
- 34:54Speaker 3: might be able get him in two seventeen. Honestly, Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 3: they have a gap between one forty four and two seventeen.
- 34:59Speaker 3: My guess is he'll go somewhere in there. But I
- 35:01Speaker 3: also think they'll close that gap somehow.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I need somebody that can run a go I need
- 35:05Speaker 1: somebody that can run a post, and I need them
- 35:07Speaker 1: to be able to do it very well. I need
- 35:09Speaker 1: two routes.
- 35:10Speaker 3: I think that's pretty much all he can do.
- 35:12Speaker 1: But you gotta do it at a high level, like
- 35:14Speaker 1: I you know, I'm not talking in no shade meant,
- 35:17Speaker 1: but like you know, I don't think Kishan Boody and
- 35:19Speaker 1: Javon Baker have proven that they can do that at
- 35:21Speaker 1: a truly high level. Maybe Booty. Booty had a nice
- 35:23Speaker 1: season last year. I don't meet the crap on Boody.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of Booty fans out there,
- 35:28Speaker 1: and he had a nice season last year, So maybe
- 35:31Speaker 1: he's the answer. Like, maybe he's the guy that ends up,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you know, being that true outside guy that can win
- 35:37Speaker 1: a deep on a deep route.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Maybe he is.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I would like to get somebody else in here
- 35:41Speaker 1: to at least compete for that.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Do you want the Lancer line on DK, because I
- 35:44Speaker 3: think this is exactly what you're describing. Niche receiver with
- 35:48Speaker 3: average hands but good early speed to bypass mad coverage,
- 35:51Speaker 3: gives life to the vertical game. Second and third level
- 35:54Speaker 3: receiver whose routes have the energy of a youngster on
- 35:57Speaker 3: a playground with all gas and no breaks. He's more
- 36:02Speaker 3: of a field stretcher than a volume option, but his
- 36:04Speaker 3: talent for opening deep windows could appeal the teams in
- 36:06Speaker 3: need of speed. So you put him, That's like exactly
- 36:10Speaker 3: the guy you're talking about. You can get him so
- 36:11Speaker 3: much later you put him or Dante Thornton.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yeah, in a competition with Kaishawn Booty and Javon Baker. Yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 1: to be that developmental X right to be that high
- 36:21Speaker 1: upside developmental X. I don't hate it. I don't hate it.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I just I don't want them taking that guy in
- 36:28Speaker 3: the top one hundred where they can address other needs.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Agree, because frankly, the guys that are best in the
- 36:33Speaker 1: top one hundred or not that guy, right, it's Jalen Dowell,
- 36:37Speaker 1: it's you know guy guys.
- 36:38Speaker 3: I mean there's a couple you know. I don't Sadian
- 36:41Speaker 3: Williams would be in there. Yep, Isaiah Bond, Tory Horton.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Are those guys going top one hundred?
- 36:46Speaker 3: Tory Horton's fringe, Isaiah Bond will Yeah, an if you
- 36:50Speaker 3: really go up there, I.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Think even that starts outside the top seventy five. Like
- 36:54Speaker 1: I still think we're thinking late day two for Isaiah Bond.
- 36:58Speaker 3: That's still too high for me. Yeah, day three pick.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah, fair enough. Should we get to the Will Campbell?
- 37:04Speaker 3: Yes, all right, so you have to do any reads first?
- 37:08Speaker 1: Nope, We're gonna get right into it. We'll do the
- 37:10Speaker 1: reads here in a second. The this is truly getting bizarre.
- 37:15Speaker 3: I've been telling you people this for weeks.
- 37:17Speaker 1: By the way, this no, no, no, no, no no, this
- 37:19Speaker 1: is this goes beyond just the combine crap. Okay, this
- 37:23Speaker 1: is We've been doing this really full time since what
- 37:26Speaker 1: eighteen seven, twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen.
- 37:28Speaker 3: So the first draft we worked together was the eighteen draft.
- 37:31Speaker 3: It was the Isaiah win In Sony Michelle Draft.
- 37:33Speaker 1: This is the most bizarre situation I've ever encountered in
- 37:37Speaker 1: my time covering the draft.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I'm trying to think.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We we now have three different arm length measurements for
- 37:44Speaker 1: the same human being. Like we third the one from
- 37:47Speaker 1: last spring that Jim Nagy reported and then Greg Badard confirmed, Yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 1: which was thirty two and seven eights, so a year
- 37:55Speaker 1: ago last spring. I believe it was at one of
- 37:59Speaker 1: those like camp or something like that, or they, you know,
- 38:01Speaker 1: the NFL Future NFL camp thing. He was thirty two
- 38:06Speaker 1: and seven a's yep, Will Campbell. Then he goes to
- 38:10Speaker 1: the combine, Yeah, and he measures in at thirty two
- 38:12Speaker 1: and five eights. I have takes on the combine.
- 38:14Speaker 3: We'll get to those.
- 38:15Speaker 1: And then we get to his pro day and he's
- 38:17Speaker 1: thirty three flat.
- 38:18Speaker 3: So I'll say this on the the thirty two and
- 38:21Speaker 3: seven as and thirty three Yeah, twenty one years old. Yeah,
- 38:24Speaker 3: it's a growing boy. It's no, I'm serious.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you're right?
- 38:28Speaker 3: Is it that unrealistic? A twenty one year old grow
- 38:31Speaker 3: a little bit in a year. So I count the
- 38:33Speaker 3: thirty two and seven a's and the thirty three as
- 38:35Speaker 3: one measurement. Those two, to me are the same. Like
- 38:38Speaker 3: if you're off by that margin, who knows what happened,
- 38:42Speaker 3: maybe his fingernails out or something.
- 38:43Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 38:44Speaker 3: The five as is completely different.
- 38:46Speaker 1: So here here's where I stand on all of this,
- 38:48Speaker 1: because I admit, fully I have been all over the
- 38:52Speaker 1: map on how to feel about this, right, like originally
- 38:55Speaker 1: all in on the player back in January, based off
- 38:58Speaker 1: the film the com Hits. I'm out on the player
- 39:01Speaker 1: because I think he's a gar with his length. I'm panicked, Right,
- 39:05Speaker 1: what do we do? I overreact to the combine. It
- 39:07Speaker 1: happens a month later after the combine, we get another measurement.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Now I feel like I'm getting pulled back in. My
- 39:13Speaker 1: gravity's pulling me back in. Now I've been all over
- 39:16Speaker 1: the map on the player, I fully admit that. But
- 39:18Speaker 1: what I come back to at times like this, because again,
- 39:21Speaker 1: this is the most bizarre situation I've ever encountered covering
- 39:24Speaker 1: the draft. I have never I never remember there, and
- 39:27Speaker 1: I know you're gonna get to your your study here
- 39:30Speaker 1: in a second.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Two.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's not just Will Campbell. The arm lanes are screwed
- 39:33Speaker 1: up all over the attack.
- 39:35Speaker 3: It's not just the arm length, it's other things too.
- 39:37Speaker 3: But I just did a young le Jalen Milro's hands
- 39:39Speaker 3: grew exponentially.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Right we are, We are really all over the place now.
- 39:44Speaker 1: If you're an NFL team, if you're Elliott Wolf, Mike
- 39:46Speaker 1: Rabel and Bryan Towden, my guess is that you're gonna
- 39:50Speaker 1: have Will Campbell in for a visit. At some point.
- 39:52Speaker 1: You're gonna take out your own tape measure and you're
- 39:54Speaker 1: gonna measure the freaking arms. Yeah right, that's what you're
- 39:57Speaker 1: gonna do. But above all else, I think we're at
- 40:00Speaker 1: the point now where you got to trust your instincts
- 40:05Speaker 1: based off the tape, and you either like the player
- 40:07Speaker 1: or you don't. You're either in you're out based off
- 40:10Speaker 1: the film, like let's not get bogged down or caught
- 40:13Speaker 1: up eighths of an inch of arms or wingspans or
- 40:17Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. If you're out on Will
- 40:19Speaker 1: Campbell at left tackle or for the Patriots at four Overall,
- 40:22Speaker 1: you're out that that's your prerogative.
- 40:24Speaker 3: You can be out.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Well, you're in. You're in like that, don't come out
- 40:28Speaker 1: on the measurements. I don't care anymore.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Because I think people forget this. You're allowed to change
- 40:33Speaker 3: your mind. You should change your mind when presented with
- 40:36Speaker 3: new information. You are absolutely allowed to change your opinion
- 40:40Speaker 3: and or just your opinion and change your mind. It's
- 40:43Speaker 3: healthy you, nobody's good. Nobody should chastise you. Oh you
- 40:47Speaker 3: should this last week, blah blah bit No, like as
- 40:50Speaker 3: you I've done it, you've done it, we all do it.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Like as you get new information during this process. Absolutely
- 40:55Speaker 3: just you're allowed to do that. If you're somebody who's
- 40:58Speaker 3: been out on Will Campbell because of his arm length,
- 41:01Speaker 3: and you see this number and you think maybe you
- 41:05Speaker 3: believe it, and I'll give you a minute and a
- 41:06Speaker 3: reason why you should believe it, nobody's gonna be mad
- 41:09Speaker 3: at you for saying, oh, you know, well, I think
- 41:12Speaker 3: his arms are actually longer, So I'm in on Campbell now.
- 41:15Speaker 3: You're absolutely allowed to do that.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think really my message would just be
- 41:19Speaker 1: at this point ya, just trust your eyes, Like if
- 41:22Speaker 1: you think the player is a good player, yeah, and
- 41:24Speaker 1: you feel comfortable with the player off the tape, the
- 41:27Speaker 1: tape doesn't change. The arm lights have changed every single way.
- 41:30Speaker 1: The tape is consistent. The tape is the tape.
- 41:32Speaker 3: So here's where the arm like measurement is consistent. You're ready,
- 41:34Speaker 3: You're ready to exercise?
- 41:35Speaker 1: No, let me say one more thing, because I know
- 41:37Speaker 1: this is going to take a second, so I'll keep
- 41:40Speaker 1: on reiterating the same thing too. About where it shows
- 41:43Speaker 1: up on his film, I think he has a really
- 41:46Speaker 1: really good anchor and he's really strong, great course straight,
- 41:50Speaker 1: So I don't see it show up a ton on
- 41:52Speaker 1: bull rushes. I just don't, you know. I think when
- 41:54Speaker 1: he went up against Shamar Stewart, who's a really powerful
- 41:59Speaker 1: long bull rush. Sure he won some and he lost
- 42:01Speaker 1: the rights. That's offensive line play, but he held his
- 42:05Speaker 1: own like. It wasn't like Shamar Stewart was getting into
- 42:08Speaker 1: his chest and ragged alling him out of the way consistently.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I don't see that on his film. What I see
- 42:13Speaker 1: with Will Campbell is that he sets out too far.
- 42:17Speaker 1: He overseets because he's trying to get out to those
- 42:20Speaker 1: high side rushers to try to keep them off the
- 42:22Speaker 1: outside right to get his hands on those guys. And
- 42:25Speaker 1: because he doesn't have the length to reach out and
- 42:27Speaker 1: extend with good leverage, he gets a little bit over
- 42:31Speaker 1: zealous and he jumps out too far. So when he
- 42:34Speaker 1: drifts out, it inherently will open the inside. So what
- 42:38Speaker 1: you see a lot of Scorrton got him on it.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I think Canard got him on it once. You see
- 42:44Speaker 1: a lot of inside moves like spins crosses over his
- 42:48Speaker 1: face right into the inside gap. So those rushers, he
- 42:52Speaker 1: has a tough time with that type of guy, Like
- 42:54Speaker 1: a guy that's really twitched up, that can fake like
- 42:57Speaker 1: he's gonna go outside, Get him to commit to go
- 43:00Speaker 1: outside and then swim inside of him or rip inside
- 43:03Speaker 1: of him or spin inside of him like those guys
- 43:05Speaker 1: are gonna give him a little bit of trouble. Now,
- 43:07Speaker 1: can you coach that out of him? Is there improvements
- 43:10Speaker 1: that you can make? I'm sure, like you know, we'd
- 43:12Speaker 1: have to get you know, Dante Scarnecki on the line
- 43:14Speaker 1: and ask him right, but I'm sure there are. Okay,
- 43:16Speaker 1: But that's where it comes out to me on the
- 43:19Speaker 1: film with him at tackle is that he has to
- 43:22Speaker 1: be a little bit more aggressive in his past sets
- 43:25Speaker 1: because of the length, and then sometimes the really well
- 43:28Speaker 1: skilled and explosive rushers can make him pay for it.
- 43:32Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, we're talking about
- 43:36Speaker 1: one or two reps a game where it burns him.
- 43:39Speaker 1: So he has sixty eight great blocks and then they'll
- 43:42Speaker 1: have one or two where it comes out and burns him.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Now that's offensive line play, right.
- 43:46Speaker 3: So he talked about this, He gave that quote about
- 43:48Speaker 3: you know, you make one mistake and certainly people want
- 43:50Speaker 3: you to work in an Amazon warehouse. Yeah, how many
- 43:53Speaker 3: such plays would you for obviously for different reasons, guys
- 43:55Speaker 3: get beat? How many such plays would you say per
- 43:58Speaker 3: game a guy like Josh Kahn has on tape that
- 44:02Speaker 3: get beat.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Uh, I would say Ursery is more so in past
- 44:09Speaker 1: protection that he'll get beat. I don't know, maybe three
- 44:13Speaker 1: to five times a game. We're talking about college, right,
- 44:16Speaker 1: So that's the other thing I have to remember, Like
- 44:17Speaker 1: they're already man amongst boys in a lot of matchups.
- 44:20Speaker 1: So you know these guys, don't you know? Armand Membu
- 44:23Speaker 1: gave up eight pressures the entire year last year at Missouri.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Eight was on the right side the entire season, so
- 44:29Speaker 1: we're not talking about a ton and and I would
- 44:31Speaker 1: also mention, you know, with Campbell that has to be mentioned,
- 44:35Speaker 1: he played in a true pro style.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Drop back offense with the quarterback that had zero pockets.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody loves the quarterback for good, good arm, but
- 44:44Speaker 1: you know, can throw.
- 44:45Speaker 3: He needs map quest to get out of the pocket.
- 44:48Speaker 1: So he didn't play in a r P O offense.
- 44:52Speaker 1: He didn't play in a run heavy offense like Membo did. Uh,
- 44:56Speaker 1: he didn't play in an r PO scheme. He didn't
- 44:58Speaker 1: play in a college offense. They had true traditional dropbacks
- 45:02Speaker 1: at LSU last year where he's blocking, true pass sets,
- 45:06Speaker 1: no play action, no bells, and whistles a lot more
- 45:09Speaker 1: than the other guys. So his flaws as a result,
- 45:13Speaker 1: especially down in the SEC where he's facing you know,
- 45:16Speaker 1: like I just mentioned a bunch of top one hundred
- 45:17Speaker 1: pass rushers almost on a weekly basis, there's a lot
- 45:21Speaker 1: more volume to like true pass blocking reps for Will
- 45:24Speaker 1: Campbell than these other guys. I would say that on
- 45:27Speaker 1: the whole. You know, he's the best pass protector in
- 45:30Speaker 1: the class.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Campbell Campbell, Yeah, yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Now there's the member of it all. We'll get to that,
- 45:35Speaker 1: but get to your numbers.
- 45:36Speaker 3: All right. So this is just again because I was
- 45:39Speaker 3: saying after the combine the numbers didn't add up, and
- 45:42Speaker 3: it was like me not being ready to quit Will
- 45:44Speaker 3: Campbell or anything. So just just for context. And by
- 45:47Speaker 3: the way, the LSC measurement at Cornet Field Yates was
- 45:49Speaker 3: taken by an NFL stafford, not somebody from LSU who's
- 45:53Speaker 3: gonna try to pump camp Just.
- 45:55Speaker 1: To add to that, there's a Patriots staffer on his name.
- 46:00Speaker 1: I'll look it up when you start talking. Who runs
- 46:02Speaker 1: all of the New England area pro days. Yeah, so
- 46:04Speaker 1: he ran the BC Pro Day, he runs the UMass
- 46:06Speaker 1: Pro Day. He does not work for Boston College. He
- 46:09Speaker 1: works for the Patriots. So that that's what you're talking about.
- 46:13Speaker 3: You say that, So okay. So I went through and
- 46:15Speaker 3: I did some research. It's guards and tat there's a few.
- 46:19Speaker 3: It's tackles with a few guards mixed in and I
- 46:21Speaker 3: think one center just to kind of there weren't a
- 46:25Speaker 3: ton of Shrine Bowl guys who went to the combine,
- 46:27Speaker 3: so I just to increase the sample size. So Will
- 46:30Speaker 3: Campbell from the combine to his showcase. So showcase is
- 46:36Speaker 3: pro DA Senior Bowl Shrine Bowl. Right, he lost three
- 46:40Speaker 3: eighths of an inch in our measurement. All right, that's
- 46:45Speaker 3: a big difference. Maybe they're trying to hang on. Josh
- 46:47Speaker 3: Connery and we're doing the Senior Bowl now, from the
- 46:50Speaker 3: Senior Bowl to the Combine lost half an inch. Arianta
- 46:54Speaker 3: Ursery seven eighths of an inch, Wow, Wyatt Milam four eighths,
- 47:00Speaker 3: Gray's Abel two eighths, Ozi Trapillo four eighths. And I
- 47:03Speaker 3: know that's a half, but it's just so it's all
- 47:05Speaker 3: scaled clay web five eighths. So those are just a
- 47:07Speaker 3: handful of guys. I picked out that one outlier. Somehow,
- 47:11Speaker 3: armand Membo gained like half an inch, so something different
- 47:14Speaker 3: happened with him. So you're saying, okay, So well, either
- 47:17Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl was off or the Combine was off.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Who do we believe? Well, the Shrine Bowl was off
- 47:22Speaker 3: by almost the same amount, So shrine ball. Holland Pierce
- 47:25Speaker 3: lost five eights of an inch, Drew Kendall lost five
- 47:28Speaker 3: eighths of an inch. Brandon Crenshaw Dixon lost four eighths
- 47:32Speaker 3: of an inch. Joshua Gray five eighths, Xavier Trust three eighths,
- 47:36Speaker 3: John Williams seven eighths, Joe Huber three eighths. So either
- 47:41Speaker 3: the Senior Bowl and the Shrine Bowl were both somehow
- 47:44Speaker 3: off by the same approximate amount individually, or the combine
- 47:50Speaker 3: was wrong, which one's more likely.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So, Paul Perrill, do I have to give credit? We'll
- 48:00Speaker 1: tell you that who has more skin in the game
- 48:03Speaker 1: for them to measure longer? The college All Star games
- 48:06Speaker 1: or the combine. The answers to college all Star games
- 48:09Speaker 1: like the Senior Bowl in the Shrine Bowl, which I
- 48:11Speaker 1: love both events, by the way, Yeah, have all the
- 48:14Speaker 1: reason to fliff up.
- 48:14Speaker 3: But then why hasn't it been done in the past
- 48:17Speaker 3: That numbers generally line up in the past.
- 48:19Speaker 1: So the only question is that I you know, that's
- 48:21Speaker 1: a great question. You think maybe it's because it's a
- 48:23Speaker 1: short arm class.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Well, I'll say this. You think that the Senior Bowl
- 48:26Speaker 3: and the Shrine Bowl. What's the word I'm looking for
- 48:30Speaker 3: colluded on this? No, because they didn't seem too happy
- 48:33Speaker 3: with each other this year, definitely to get together on
- 48:35Speaker 3: a project. So if that's the case, the Senior Bowl
- 48:38Speaker 3: and the Shrine Bowl, and I maybe I should run
- 48:39Speaker 3: the hula bowl too. I don't know if they had
- 48:41Speaker 3: any guys at the combine, Yeah, they would have had
- 48:44Speaker 3: to come together and say, Okay, we both need to overmeasure,
- 48:47Speaker 3: but we have to overmeasure between like a quarter and
- 48:50Speaker 3: seven a seven inch, and we got to get everybody
- 48:53Speaker 3: within that range in order to pump these guys up.
- 48:55Speaker 3: And then we have to hope that people believe that
- 49:00Speaker 3: we didn't clude or like you get what I'm saying.
- 49:03Speaker 3: So much that would have to happen to be the
- 49:05Speaker 3: case a conspiracy. We need Michael Hurley for this. We're
- 49:08Speaker 3: turning into the conspiracy. Well, but like, look, if the
- 49:11Speaker 3: NFL screwed up, they could have cost these kids some money.
- 49:14Speaker 3: So I don't know. I'd like to know what happened there.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I would do. I mean, this is this is crazy,
- 49:20Speaker 1: This is absolutely banana.
- 49:21Speaker 3: I'm gonna put all the numbers up. I'm gonna I'm
- 49:23Speaker 3: gonna write something on this. I'll have all the numbers
- 49:24Speaker 3: up later if you want. But again, outside, I don't
- 49:26Speaker 3: know what happened with armand Membu. He's sort of a
- 49:28Speaker 3: weird outlier in this. And I didn't include Calvin Banks in.
- 49:32Speaker 3: Who's the other top tackle, Josh Simmons. Yeah, because I
- 49:35Speaker 3: don't have a second measurement for them. I couldn't find
- 49:37Speaker 3: the measurements from Texas's Pro day. Ohio States Proday is
- 49:40Speaker 3: going on right now. Neither one of them participating in
- 49:43Speaker 3: the Senior bowls, so we don't have or Shrine Bowl
- 49:45Speaker 3: or anything. So that's why those guys got left off.
- 49:48Speaker 3: But my guess is what I think Banks was thirty
- 49:51Speaker 3: three flat at the combine or like just over thirty
- 49:54Speaker 3: three at half an inch to it. Simmons whatever he
- 49:57Speaker 3: measured at the combine at half an inch to it,
- 49:59Speaker 3: I think we're gonna use the combine numbers for arm length.
- 50:02Speaker 3: We got to understand that's probably the lower end. So
- 50:05Speaker 3: maybe LSU gave Campbell a little bit of help this
- 50:07Speaker 3: independent staffer. But to go from the five eighths to
- 50:11Speaker 3: the seventies, even if that's the gap, that would be
- 50:14Speaker 3: on the low end of the misses. Again, most of
- 50:16Speaker 3: these guys are off by half an inch, if not more.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Arianta URSII, John Williams, we even talked about he's a
- 50:21Speaker 3: Day three pick from Cincinnati. They lost like a full
- 50:24Speaker 3: inch on their measurement. That's very different. Also, ers might
- 50:27Speaker 3: have thirty five inch arms.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a big guy. There's no doubt, like that's
- 50:31Speaker 1: not a doubt like he's a big Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 3: So that's just I'm just saying. You know, I'm generally
- 50:36Speaker 3: anti math, but in this case, follow the numbers. At
- 50:38Speaker 3: this point, put this away. I got what I need is.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Trust the film. Just trust the film. If you don't
- 50:42Speaker 1: like the player, you don't like the player. I'm not
- 50:44Speaker 1: gonna sit here and argue. We've argued about these players
- 50:46Speaker 1: at nauseum for months. I like the player. If you
- 50:48Speaker 1: don't like the player, don't get caught up.
- 50:50Speaker 3: In the arm light. Jesus, you know what I brought.
- 50:53Speaker 1: He thinks he's hilarious right now that the tay measured.
- 50:56Speaker 3: I mean we're talking about that's not the point and
- 50:59Speaker 3: you know it.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Or if you want to get caught up in
- 51:02Speaker 1: it again, I would just say that I think every
- 51:05Speaker 1: single team that it's going to be interested in Bill
- 51:07Speaker 1: Campbell is now going to have to get their own
- 51:09Speaker 1: independent arm length measurement because they can't trust the combine.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Right, And I guess my point is I don't think
- 51:14Speaker 3: that independent measurement is going to come in at five
- 51:17Speaker 3: eighths thirty two and five as I think it's gonna
- 51:19Speaker 3: be longer than that.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Thirty two and seventy eight.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Thirty two and seven sounds right, thirty two and seven
- 51:23Speaker 3: eight well, but again, even that that would put him
- 51:26Speaker 3: on the low end of miss.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Thirty two and seven A sounds consistent and right to me,
- 51:32Speaker 1: just based off what we know about his arm being
- 51:35Speaker 1: a little bit shorter, and if you can give him
- 51:38Speaker 1: that extra eighth of an inch to get him to
- 51:40Speaker 1: the threshold, then things like the pro at the p
- 51:43Speaker 1: then you fluff it up.
- 51:44Speaker 6: Well.
- 51:45Speaker 3: I also think it's possible that a twenty one year
- 51:46Speaker 3: old grew a little bit in the course of a year,
- 51:48Speaker 3: because that that thirty two and seven A numbers from
- 51:50Speaker 3: a year ago.
- 51:51Speaker 1: So let me like put you in in other terms,
- 51:53Speaker 1: like if you run a forty at your pro day, yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 1: and you're four or five flat, doesn't it sound a
- 51:58Speaker 1: little bit.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Better if it's four four and yeah? Yeah, I get
- 52:00Speaker 3: you're saying right.
- 52:01Speaker 1: So, like I could see that being the case. But
- 52:03Speaker 1: at the end of the day, if it's thirty two
- 52:05Speaker 1: and seven a's we're right there. We're right there.
- 52:07Speaker 3: But all right, So let's do this again. We did
- 52:08Speaker 3: this exercise last week and I don't think you loved it,
- 52:11Speaker 3: but you actually two different answers for we're going again
- 52:13Speaker 3: because you put me on the spot, Hunter and Carter
- 52:16Speaker 3: off the board.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Well, Campbell, the phone's not written yet. So last week
- 52:20Speaker 1: pounding the table. Okay, So here's here's what I wanted
- 52:23Speaker 1: to like point out.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Last week. It was very and I understand why I'm
- 52:26Speaker 3: not faulting you for it. There was some hemming and
- 52:28Speaker 3: hawing in a thought process. Now you're coming back, we
- 52:32Speaker 3: do that exercise again.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Gotta trust my instincts on this.
- 52:34Speaker 3: But now you're pounding the table. So you feel better
- 52:36Speaker 3: about it now than you did a week.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I feel better about it. I feel better and I'm
- 52:41Speaker 1: pounding the table for it. But I think it comes
- 52:43Speaker 1: back to the take that I've had about this entire draft.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I keep on.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I feel like I'm taking crazy bills because no one
- 52:49Speaker 1: will listen to me when I say this. You know
- 52:51Speaker 1: I'm not saying you, but just in general, this is
- 52:54Speaker 1: not a blue chip draft.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Nope.
- 52:57Speaker 1: So if we get to four on half night and Abdul, Carter,
- 53:02Speaker 1: and Travis Hunter are not there you are picking between
- 53:06Speaker 1: flawed options, right, everybody has an issue at that point. Yeah,
- 53:11Speaker 1: Will Campbell hast long enough armand Membu played the wrong
- 53:15Speaker 1: side of the offensive line. He's a right tackle And
- 53:18Speaker 1: I have a take on that in a second week
- 53:19Speaker 1: and get to after we get to some of these calls. Yep,
- 53:22Speaker 1: Ted McMillan slow, yeah, or he's not fast as you
- 53:26Speaker 1: not fast?
- 53:27Speaker 3: That is correct, right? Uh, Genty, Genty's a running back.
- 53:31Speaker 3: I actually have real quick aside if we're gonna positional
- 53:36Speaker 3: value thing aside, like actual makeup of the player, there
- 53:39Speaker 3: actually is a red flag for Genty. I was doing
- 53:41Speaker 3: some work on it. Yeah, he has seven hundred and
- 53:43Speaker 3: fifty touches in the last three years. That would be
- 53:47Speaker 3: fifth in the NFL during that span. That he's a
- 53:49Speaker 3: young guy. That's a lot of mileage for running down.
- 53:51Speaker 3: That's a if they were gonna take Genty and we were,
- 53:54Speaker 3: you know, to come in here the next day and
- 53:55Speaker 3: talk about it after you're you know, done, just getting
- 53:58Speaker 3: in your feels, that would be my bigger concern than
- 54:00Speaker 3: the positional value. Is this is a guy that has
- 54:04Speaker 3: a lot Yeah, like you better maximize him early because
- 54:08Speaker 3: that's third contract, probably not second contract.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know the number off the top of
- 54:12Speaker 1: my head. Yeah, gent D feels very Zeke Elliott to me,
- 54:18Speaker 1: Wait many carries seek Elliot might not have gotten as
- 54:21Speaker 1: many because Ohio State has so many players that they
- 54:23Speaker 1: can turn.
- 54:24Speaker 3: They leaned on him, but I remember.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Them leaning on him. Dallas leaned on him early in
- 54:29Speaker 1: his career with the Cowboys. He had five really really
- 54:32Speaker 1: like all pro caliber years with Dallas and then it
- 54:36Speaker 1: dropped off a cliff.
- 54:37Speaker 3: So he had six hundred fifty. So we had one
- 54:40Speaker 3: hundred less touches than gent D in that three year span.
- 54:42Speaker 3: But I would say six hundred and fifty touches in
- 54:45Speaker 3: the Big ten a lot probably equates to seven fifty
- 54:48Speaker 3: in the Mountain West.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Last couple Tyler Warren, tight end Older, late breakout, late breakout,
- 54:54Speaker 1: Yeah right, you know all those types of things. The
- 54:57Speaker 1: Georgia guys, you know, Jalen Walker's an undersized linebacker. He's
- 55:00Speaker 1: a two hundred and forty pound edge rusher, slash hybrid linebacker.
- 55:05Speaker 1: MIKEL Williams doesn't have the NFL the college production.
- 55:07Speaker 3: He's a project.
- 55:08Speaker 1: He's a project. Shamar Stewart definitely a project.
- 55:11Speaker 3: I don't even put him in that tier because there's
- 55:12Speaker 3: so many other ed rushers ahead him. Calvin Banks.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Calvin Banks guard, you think so? I think some people
- 55:19Speaker 1: think he's a guard.
- 55:20Speaker 3: No, you you you're in the room.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Body control, balance, you know, being able to mirror on
- 55:25Speaker 1: an island, pass protection. Basically, that was a fancy way
- 55:28Speaker 1: of saying pass protection. You know, like those types of
- 55:31Speaker 1: all these guys, is my point. All these guys have warts.
- 55:34Speaker 1: They all have warts. And so what it comes back
- 55:37Speaker 1: down to with this draft is that, in my opinion,
- 55:40Speaker 1: this is a fits draft. This is a a needs draft.
- 55:44Speaker 1: You want to call it that, It's a fits draft.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Best player for the football team.
- 55:48Speaker 1: This is the player that we need. This is the
- 55:50Speaker 1: player that we have a vision for. You know, this
- 55:52Speaker 1: is the player that fills a hole, that fills it,
- 55:55Speaker 1: that has an immediate pathway to high volume of snaps.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I don't think that there's going to be any separation
- 56:02Speaker 1: between that group in terms of grade on the player.
- 56:06Speaker 1: So when I continue to hear best player available, what
- 56:09Speaker 1: happens when you know some teams they all use different
- 56:13Speaker 1: grading skills. Let's just go one to one hundred.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, it makes it easy.
- 56:17Speaker 1: What happens when you have six guys that have a
- 56:19Speaker 1: eighty five all of them are be players. They all
- 56:22Speaker 1: graded out as eighty five. Right, what is going to
- 56:25Speaker 1: be the deal breakers? Where should positional position, positional value,
- 56:29Speaker 1: how they interviewed, What do you like?
- 56:32Speaker 3: The kid? Do you like?
- 56:35Speaker 1: So these are the things that are going to matter
- 56:37Speaker 1: in a draft like this. I wish it was different
- 56:39Speaker 1: if they had a Joalt level prospect, if there was
- 56:41Speaker 1: a Molik Neighbors level prospect. You're not asking these questions, right,
- 56:45Speaker 1: You're not getting into this minutia. That's not the year
- 56:48Speaker 1: we're in. It's not the draft we're in.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Well, we kind of did this last year with Harrison
- 56:53Speaker 3: and Alt when we because we had the obligatory, like
- 56:55Speaker 3: if they don't go quarterback conversations, Alton Harrison were tied
- 56:59Speaker 3: and we went to positional value and things like that.
- 57:02Speaker 3: So it's the same thing, just with lesser caliber players.
- 57:06Speaker 3: But they're all the same within the draft, they're all
- 57:08Speaker 3: the same caliber.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Can't sleep until football season starts. Let's let Bob's discount

- 57:52Speaker 1: your revolutionary weekend at Massachusetts two fifty dotal. All right,
- 57:55Speaker 1: I know you guys have been waiting on the line
- 57:56Speaker 1: for a while. I appreciate it. We're gonna get to
- 57:59Speaker 1: your phones right now now. Mark is in Connecticut.
- 58:01Speaker 3: What's up? Mark?
- 58:03Speaker 7: Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. As always, I
- 58:06Speaker 7: had a couple of things for you guys. Yay, yay,
- 58:09Speaker 7: we got thirty three inch arm yay. The big thing
- 58:13Speaker 7: is Alex, I talked to you one ninety five the
- 58:15Speaker 7: sports up on Sunday morning.
- 58:17Speaker 8: I was right.
- 58:17Speaker 7: Two year deal is what this essentially looks like with
- 58:20Speaker 7: a third year option. Great deal, I think for the
- 58:23Speaker 7: value on it. So I'm very happy about that. Travis Hunter,
- 58:27Speaker 7: if we get him, I really think, like Evan was
- 58:30Speaker 7: saying earlier, this is a legit offense and I believe
- 58:34Speaker 7: a playoff contender. Now, if you're talking that, the last
- 58:38Speaker 7: take is we need a guy I don't know. I'm
- 58:42Speaker 7: sure you guys remember him, but this guy was awesome.
- 58:45Speaker 7: Josh Gordon. I know we had problems off the field,
- 58:48Speaker 7: but when he was on the field in twenty eighteen,
- 58:50Speaker 7: he was a baller. I am thinking that's the type
- 58:53Speaker 7: of player Evan that you're trying to talk about.
- 58:57Speaker 2: It.
- 58:57Speaker 7: Am I correct on.
- 58:58Speaker 6: That, Evan?
- 58:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 58:58Speaker 1: Pretty close.
- 58:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think a little more speed.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Gordon was more at that stage of his career.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that stage of his career. But yeah, no player
- 59:06Speaker 3: like that that would be would be great. And I
- 59:08Speaker 3: think with Hunter, like it just all comes down to
- 59:11Speaker 3: if you draft Hunter, yeat to move back up and
- 59:14Speaker 3: get that tackle. Like, if it's Hunter and then you
- 59:16Speaker 3: move back up and you get a left tackle, you're
- 59:17Speaker 3: in great shape.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Love you guys, Thanks, Mark, appreciate it. A little bit
- 59:23Speaker 1: of more Will Campbell news from LSU's Pro Day. This
- 59:27Speaker 1: is from Jordan Reed to ESPN. Great great draft. Follow
- 59:30Speaker 1: if you don't already follow Jordan. Will Campbell has already
- 59:33Speaker 1: visited the Patriots, so he's already had his thirty visit
- 59:36Speaker 1: with New England and apparently he also has one on
- 59:39Speaker 1: the books with the Las Vegas Raiders. Here, I'll just
- 59:42Speaker 1: read the tweet. LSU aligned Will Campbell conferred to us
- 59:44Speaker 1: on SEC network that he will not participate in the
- 59:47Speaker 1: pro day today and stand on his numbers from the
- 59:49Speaker 1: scouting combine. He has already visited the Patriots and will
- 59:52Speaker 1: visit the Raiders later this week. So Will Campbell, according
- 59:56Speaker 1: to Will Campbell, already pretty good source, already been in
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: New England already on a thirty visit with the Patriots,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: so that is extremely notable. Randall is in Texas.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: What's up?
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Randall? Randall you there?
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: What's up? All Right?
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Call back and we'll get you on. DC is in
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: New Hampshire. What's up, DC?
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: I was hoping you could help illuminate something for me,
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: which is how much impact a draft grading system actually
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: has on a team's draft board in their grades. Because
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: when I heard like Craft and Vrabel allude to how
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Elliott Woof didn't get to implement his system to.
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: Like a layman, like an idiot like me. I'm thinking, like, so,
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: what what difference does he make?
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: It was he was still the guy.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Making the decision.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: So I'm really wondering what would.
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: Last draft, How would it have impacted last draft? How
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: it would have been different if he had this grading system?
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: Then what might we expect to change for this upcome draft?
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: Any any clarity for an idiot like me?
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Much appreciated, thanks DC, And you're not You're not an idiot.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: It's a good question. So I talked to Elliott Wolf
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: at the Senior Bowl about this a little bit, and uh,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: he did mention that he wouldn't necessarily put a ton
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: of stock into the changing of the grading scale, But
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the idea of the change of the grading scale was
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: more to just grade the player on the best player available,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: versus being the Belichick scale, which was very role oriented.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Right like, we view this running back in an early
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: down roll, or we review this running back in the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: third down back role, you know, allah James White, Right like,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: they had early down linebackers, they had pass game linebackers,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: they had base ends and they had pass rushing ends
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: like all the way down the board. It was a
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: very specific role, you know, slot receiver, inside receiver, outside receiver,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: and it had a vision of how does this fit
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: into the new England Patriots system schnatically and so at
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: times that would lead to certain players being higher on
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: the Patriots boards that might have been lower on let's say,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: at consensus NFL board. And the idea for Elliott Wolfe
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and I believe this is how they do it in
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Green Bay as well, was to just grade the player
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: in a vacuum like do we think Will Campbell is
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: better or armand Membu? Nor what role is he going
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: to play? You know, none of this other minutia. When
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: we're stacking the board, you know what determines that. Now,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like I said, I
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: don't think it was a huge impact on last year's draft.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I don't think they necessarily would have changed a ton
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: about what they did and last year's draft. But that's
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: the idea of it. And just the last thing. The
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: reason why they couldn't fully change it from the Belichick
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: system to this new system is because all the in
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: person scouting Hay was already in the barn when they
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: made the coaching change. So a lot of the evaluation
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: process is done in person, boots on the ground at
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: LSU at Ohio State and physically watching these players up
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: close at games, and so all those grades were already
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: in the books, so you can't redo the grades right
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: like the grade's already done. So they didn't really implement
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: it fully last season because of that. So this is
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: truly the first cycle in the draft where they've used
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: entirely this new system of grading. So I hope that
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: that helps clarify some of that.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I don't know if it will have a major impact.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I don't want to over analyze it.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: At the end of the day, it's sold just everybody's
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: evaluating the same players. I don't think it makes that
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: big of a difference.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Yep, I agree, all right, Sean is in Vancouver. What's up, Sean?
- 1:03:48Speaker 10: Hey guys, I'm just wondering what the injury status will
- 1:03:53Speaker 10: be for Diggs. Do you think he'll be ready by
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: Game one?
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: Like?
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: When is he going to be fully dressed? I'm playing
- 1:03:59Speaker 10: for the past.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for the question. So Adam Schefter last night, yep,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: straight from Stefanzik's agent, I assume, yeah, said that he
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: will be ready for a week one of the regular.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: That he will be, but that like he could be.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: He's tracking, tracking, find the.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Exactly week one. That seems lofty. That seems like a
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: high benchmark. Yeah, for what it's worth, and I'm not
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: a doctor, don't pretend to be one, but for what
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: it's worth, he's posted some things on social media that
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: he's already running at full speed, which the Twitter doctors
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: tell me that is ahead of schedule. Right, for him
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: to be running at full speed five months removed from surgery,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: that's a good sign.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne is the one we always kind of go
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: back to with this. He tore his ACL in twenty
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: twenty three late October, around exactly the same time of
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and it took him almost a full year.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: To get back eleven months, right, he came back at
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: the end of the beginning of October.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Right, So I think realistically, twelve ish games of Stefan
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Diggs in twenty twenty five is probably the realistic.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: So the record if you want to call it that
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: for the ACLS. Famously, Adrian Peterson, who tours ACL on
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Christmas was back for Week one and then won the
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: MVP because the guy was just we don't talk enough
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: about it. How impressive that was. Frankly, I knew he
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: had an eight month ACL recovery. I knew he had
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: an MVP. I forgot that were the same year. What
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: a just amazing player. But you know, is it week one?
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Ready for week one? What does that mean? Maybe he's
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: ready to begin football activities week one? Remember last year
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne talked about how he maybe could have played
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: at the start of the season, but having those four
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: weeks to ramp up football wise made a big difference.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: So maybe week one he's like technically ready, but they
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: give him that ramp up. I wonder if there's a
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: thing because you have that ability now. And I was
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: actually just looking. The NFL just sent out like the
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: updated rule change proposals and they are formalizing that thing
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: that they added last year where you can choose two
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: players who don't make the initial fifty three and designate
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: them to return. So I forget exactly what the rules
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: are about how involved those players can be in camp? Yeah,
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: but is it something where they maybe they.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Can't be if they can't. Okay, so well, actually, no,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: I take that back. You can't be on pup in
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: practice right once you practice, you you're ineligible for pup
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: injured reserve. You could technically practice and then go on.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: So I wonder if it's a thing where maybe, and
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: maybe I'm wrong on this, I have to really go
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: and look at the rule. Yeah, I was gonna do
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: that this morning, and then the little stuff happened. Do
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: they get Digs back maybe in August around when the
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: preseason starts, just to get him on the field with Drake,
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: may get the early steps in. He then goes on
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: that ir designated return. He continues his ramp up for
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: four weeks, and then boom, he hits the ground running
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: week five. That might be like a best case scenario
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: kind of thing. Yeah, I'm assuming I gotta look up
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: that rule.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: I'm expecting to see him in October at some point
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I think is realistic. If it's week one, great, but
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: I'm not expecting week one. I'm hoping week one, expecting October.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Either way, though, he should be healthy to play the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: majority of the season, Like this isn't a situation where
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: he's going to be back in December. Right, it should be,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: and I.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Will say it what I think helps. I haven't seen
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: the medicals. I'm not a doctor. I don't know, but
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: from everything I've read, sometimes when guys tear their acls
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: like this is this is the case for you? Right?
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: It was ACL MCL and I think he did something
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: else too, Right, we're PCL or whatever. Other meniscus blah
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: blah blah, this and that. As far I can tell,
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: with Diggs, it's just the ACL.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: They didn't non contact aco, they.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Didn't have to fully rebuild his knee or anything like that.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: It was the one ligament. So that has to help, right, Yep.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: I'm trying to find the we take this next comment?
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: All right, Randall's back in Texas?
- 1:07:48Speaker 9: Was that?
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Randall?
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: Hey?
- 1:07:50Speaker 11: What's going on?
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Evan?
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Hey?
- 1:07:54Speaker 11: Yeah, listen to for a year now. I just want
- 1:07:56Speaker 11: to give you all a shout out, man, because I've
- 1:07:57Speaker 11: started listening to podcast recently, and I've been listening y'all
- 1:08:00Speaker 11: since we started the draft and when y'all we got
- 1:08:02Speaker 11: Drake May last year.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Thank you. I appreciate it.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:07Speaker 11: So I have a couple of questions actually. First off,
- 1:08:10Speaker 11: now that we have Steffan Diggs, do you think it's
- 1:08:12Speaker 11: kind of redundant to drafts Ed mc miller at umber four?
- 1:08:15Speaker 11: And also let's say we do document number four, do
- 1:08:17Speaker 11: you feel like who do you feel like would be
- 1:08:20Speaker 11: I guess the roster cut after if you weren't a draftman,
- 1:08:23Speaker 11: for example, because we would have like what seven may
- 1:08:26Speaker 11: receivers after that on the team now from tennim milling,
- 1:08:29Speaker 11: who do you think would be like cut candidates that
- 1:08:32Speaker 11: were to happen.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Randall, that's a really good question. I thought about
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: this too, and I know that it's kind of crazy
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: to think about because the Patriots we've been starving for
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: talent at that position, and you're not going to turn
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: away talent at the receiver position. But numbers are numbers,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Like there's only so many roster spots, and if you
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: draft another receiver with a high draft pick, that's a
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: guaranteed roster Locke, He's right, you're talking about having I
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: believe eight receivers on the roster that I'll have a
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: chance to make the team. It would be the rookie Diggs,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: MATC Collins, Pop Douglas, Kaishawan Boody, Jalen Polk, Javon Baker,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne. That's a big group, that's it. Yeah, it's
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: a big group.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: But you are going to have an extra roster spot
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: at the beginning, probably for Diggs.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: But still it's a why would you have an extra
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: rosspot because he's like on I R.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: Potentially I'm talking about once you get in the regulars.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that that's eight guys. You want to call it
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: seven because of Digs a situation that it might be seven,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: you could keep six and you could do it that way.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: My guess is is that whoever is the odd man
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: out is they do try to look for a trade. Yeah,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: and I love Kendrick Bourne, but it's possible that he
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: could be involved in a trade as a veteran receiver
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: with some some cachet, with a resume of success in
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: the league. I think you get to the point there
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: where you you might have to offload one of those guys,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: whether it's releasing one of the young players that that
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: just isn't gonna cut it, or it's trading a guy
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: like Kendrick Bourne for whatever you can get for him
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: just to make room on the roster. But it's a
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: fair question. Even though again I'm not saying don't draft
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Travis Hunter or Tech McMillan because you have too many receivers.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Nobody's saying that, but it would cause a crunch a
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: little bit at that position. You'd have a lot of
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: players there.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: And I just the first part of question, I don't
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: think McMillan's were done. And by the way, I found
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: the rule, and I should have known this from last
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: year because Christian Barmore technically practice, yep, and they designated
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: him return. So you could absolutely if Diggs is ready
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: to practice in mid to late Oh.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Yeah, No, the question is, yeah, if he practices, he
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: can place him on injured reserve. There's no problem right now.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Technically he's supposed to have an injury, and I know
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: he does, but like it's he's supposed to have an
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: injury that happened, right, like I guess, yeah, yeah, But
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: you could always just say that the knee's not ready, right.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: You know, there's a big difference between being clean. It'd
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: be I think that would pass. I don't know. You
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: don't want to lose a draft pick over it.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: No, no, no, I'm not like going there. I'm just saying, like, technically,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: injured reserve is because somebody got hurt and how they're
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: going on injured reserves. But Isahle's out there suffers a
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: concussion and he's on injured reserve.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: What I'm describing though, is like he'd probably be out
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: there in a red non contact jersey, is probably only
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: doing one on like one on ones if dad, he's
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: not doing team drills like a guy that's clearly not
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: ready for the season. Yep, I would say Counts is injured.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: I think that that's totally fair. Being able to practice
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: and being able to play or two completely different things.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he takes him off the pup possibility, right, but
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: it definitely puts.
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: Him on ir possibility. Like, look, if he's playing in
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: preseason games, I see why that would be weird. But
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: I don't think he's playing a preseason game. Yep.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: All right, Patty is an Agua on what's up.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: Patty Cup guys, Good afternoon, Good afternoon.
- 1:11:36Speaker 9: So I had a couple of questions. The first one
- 1:11:40Speaker 9: I'll take on there if that's okay. The second one
- 1:11:42Speaker 9: I'll take off there. So just what it's scenario? They
- 1:11:47Speaker 9: Carter and Hunter, I got it for. We take Will
- 1:11:50Speaker 9: Campbell and the brain Trust to stand, we're going to
- 1:11:55Speaker 9: take a receiver at pick thirty eight with our or
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: with our second pick, whether they trade up thirty eight
- 1:12:00Speaker 9: trades and whatever. Now, we know historically from Wolf's days
- 1:12:05Speaker 9: in Green Bay that he favored taller, rengier receivers, and
- 1:12:09Speaker 9: we know that historically with Josh McDaniels, they like kind
- 1:12:14Speaker 9: of the smaller, shiftier slot guys. Now, let's say the
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: choice comes down between the two Iowa State guys. Could
- 1:12:22Speaker 9: you see like that getting contentious with Wolfe or do
- 1:12:26Speaker 9: you think like he would just defer to his coaching
- 1:12:27Speaker 9: staff and say, you know, all right, if you guys
- 1:12:30Speaker 9: wanting to well, do you think he's a better fit
- 1:12:32Speaker 9: for the system we're gonna run, We'll go with them.
- 1:12:37Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I think that they would defer to the coaches.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, And I don't think that's something
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: that happened on draft night. Those are conversations that are happening. Yeah, no,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: And everything that he said, Elliot Wolfe has said since
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: the combine really is that he wants to pick players
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: if the coaches want to coach, like, he wants to
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: get guys to coaches like. I don't think he's going
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: to force. I think the exact line he gave was
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: that I'm not going to force players on the coaching staff,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: and I don't think that he's in the business of
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: doing that. So if they truly feel h strongly as
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: a staff, as a coaching staff, that Jalen Noel is
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: a better player than Jayden Higgins for them, then they'll
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: take Noel.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: It was the second question. I think that was the
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: only question he said he had.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: All right, I want to get into this question though
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: from Floyd.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: The second question is always like really nerdy ones.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: He can email it in her callback, Patty before we
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: get to the rest of these phones. I do want
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: to answer this question because I think it's a it's
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: the next on my dock and we kind of got lost.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Is this your take? No, But okay, guys, I want
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: to get to that.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: But this is I go ahead, lost in the sauce
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: of the Campbell arm length conversation a little bit. But uh,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: this is from Floyd and Michigan, not emailing it about
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Mason Graham for once, which is nice.
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: And Floyd says, could you please.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Discuss the signing of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: the impact on the draft for the Giants. So last
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: night on Twitter, Alex I got finger wagged. I got
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: finger wagged big time. How dare you on Twitter for
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: suggesting that maybe the Giants having two veteran quarterbacks under
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: contract could take them out of the quarterback sweepstakes? And
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: how could I?
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Like? How could I? Because I've gotten fingerwack for that too.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: Let me just point this out. Yeah, the Giants being
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: out of the quarterback conversation at three and the Giants
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: being out of the quarterback conversation period or two different things. Right.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Maybe it's you know, Brian day Ball is coaching for
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: his job. Joe Shane is building this team for his
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: job right now. And you could look at it one
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: of two ways. You could look at it and say,
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: they want as many options as possible to make sure
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: they're good, or maybe they want a young quarterback so
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: that ownership has to keep more undeveloped that guy. But
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: if they feel like Russell Wilson with Jamis Winston is
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: like a floor, they may look at it and say, well,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: let's get these guys on the weapon. We don't necessarily
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: believe in these quarterbacks as much. And then you know,
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: how big is the gap between to them? So this
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: is the one thing I don't think the Giants are
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: abdol Carter doesn't make sense for them. The one thing
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: they have is edge. So if you get Carter and
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Hunter on the board for them, it's quarterbacks one two.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: If they're just not going quarterback, right, let's say armand
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: Membu go second. I've seen that in a couple of
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: mont drafts. Yeah, I think it's Hunter not Carter, and
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: then Carter falls to the Patriots. But do they look
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: at it and say, well, all right, what's the gap
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: between Hunter and say who's a Oman or I guess
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: would be the guy right or Luther Burton? Even what's
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: the gap between Hunter and Luther Burden versus the gap
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: between Shader Sanders and Jackson Dart If he falls, maybe
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: they trade back up, or Jackson Dart and Will Howard
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: or Jackson Dart or sorry, Shoulder Sanders and Jalen Miller,
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Shadeur Sanders and Will Howard or something like that. Do
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: they look at it and say, well, let's just we
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: have Russell Wilson, who we know can handle himself, got
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: a team in the playoffs last year, kind of let's
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: just get him another weapon and then we'll you know,
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: we'll develop Millrow, or we'll develop Dart, or will develop
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: Howard or something like that. I could see that being there.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: That makes as much sense to me is them going
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: quarterback at three.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Makes more sense to me.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: So a couple of things, well, all depends how they
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: feel about you shed there, But.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: A couple of things. One, I agree with your line
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: of thinking completely. To me, if you wanted to take
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: a quarterback at the top of the day and you're
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: gonna target Shadoor Sanders at the top of the draft,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: there's no reason to sign two bridge quarterbacks, right, There's
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: no reason for it. You would sign your Jacoby Brissett,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: who probably would have been Jameis Winston, right, and you
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: would have drafted Shador and you would have done exactly
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: what the Patriots did last season with Drake May and
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett. You would have had the exact same setup. Yeah,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: for a regime, and Brian Dable and Joe Shane, who
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: are coaching and GMing for their jobs right now, who
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: are on the hottest of hot seats, like I think
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: they might have the hottest seat in the NFL.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: They yeah, probably they are on.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: The hottest of hot seats. Drafting Shador Sanders to sit
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: him behind Russell Wilson does not help them keep their
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: jobs at all.
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: No, at all.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: And I understand everybody brings up the Michael Pennock situation
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: in Atlanta. It was a first year coach in Atlanta.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: They had some leeway, they had some rope, And I
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: would also add, well, they also probably thought that Michael
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Penix was a really damn good quarterback. I don't think
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Shador has thought of in that way. And the last thing.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: I'll do, we don't think Pennix was thought of in
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: that way last year. But I'll just honest I had
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: a credit Fred Toucher for this because I was talking
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: to him about this yesterday. Do you think that there's
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: any chance that Shown or Shane and Dave Ball look
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: at it as we all right, we're gonna go to ownership. Hey,
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: we just drafted this kid. You got to keep us
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: here to develop him because if you fire us, the
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: next guys might not want him. And now you blew
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: this pick. Do you think that there's any chance that
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: they see drafting him as kind of giving themselves a
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: lifeline a life jacket, if anything.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Drafting him would give them a lifeline by playing him
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: and saying we got to work out the rookie quarterback
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: quirks well.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: But like either way, I'm saying, like there's an argument
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: you made that drafting him one way, like you have
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: to play him. Maybe they don't plan on play. Maybe
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: they think Russell Wilson is like a high level bridge.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: So Russell Wilson is getting paid ten million dollars of
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: guaranteed money that for next year.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: That's the last year.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Eight Yeah, but not ten and no it wasn't.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: I think it was eight total. I think it was
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: eight total.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: Anyways, my point is this with the Giants, you can
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: look at it one of two ways. If you're a
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Patriots fan that's hoping that that they're gonna have Abdul
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Carter or Travis Hunter fall in their laps at four,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: the class half full is is that the New York
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: Giants either I guess there's three ways they do it anyway, right,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: and they draft shed Door at three overall and have
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: three quarterbacks in the room. They the Browns take Shador,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: which would obviously help if it's one two cam Ward
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Shadoor Sanders. My fear and my fear all along with
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: this quarterback class is that I don't think the league
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: is as high on Shadoor Sanders as the outside noises.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: I just I think that's been the reporting, and that's
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: been the sense, that's been the feel going all the
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: way back to January. And what happens is is we
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: get thrust into the draft and all, and we go
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: months and months and months, and we turn and turn
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: and turn, and usually by the time that April twenty
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: fifth rolls around her twenty fourth or whatever it is,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: we're back to square one, which is this is the
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: board that was set in January, based off the scouts
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: and the tape back in the football season.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: So the whole take that I have right now is
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Shador is that I think it's just as likely that
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: we're gonna see a Shador Sanders slide as it is
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: that we're going to see him go in the top three.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Like I think that there's a chance that nobody wants
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: you to door in the top three. And the last thing
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: that I you know, reason why I feel that way
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: it feels to me is everybody's looking for a lifeboat
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: to escape drafting Shador Sanders High. Like everybody's looking for
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: their Russell Wilson, their t Smith, their Aaron Rodgers, potentially
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins in Cleveland. There's a lot of smoke there.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: Somebody's gonna get left on the outside though. There's not
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: a game of musical chairs. There's not enough seats, and
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: maybe that is the.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: But it could be in the New Orleans Saints, or it
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: could be the Pittsburgh Steel or you know, it's not
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: going to necessarily be one of those times three teams
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: real quick.
- 1:20:04Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: Brissett got seven million guaranteed here last year. Okay, so
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: Wilson attends it's a little gap, but the cap went up,
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: but as a definitive backup this year, definitive backup. You
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: know which Kobe re Set got for guaranteed money? What
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: eight million? Wow? I don't think ten million dollars guaranteed
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: is like a locked in starting quarterback contract.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Maybe it's I just don't think that signing. I think
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: signing both those quarterbacks doesn't smell quarterback at three. Like
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: if they had just signed Jamis or if they had
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: just signed Russell Wilson, absolutely then quarterback at three is
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: much really in play. Bringing all three of those quarterbacks,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: it just doesn't make anything.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: I just check out. I default two teams get weird
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: and stupid at the quarterback position.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: So maybe the rule the stupid team is Cleveland, in
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: which case that's but but I would just say if
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: it's Cleveland, I don't think that's the best case scenario
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: for the Patriots either, because I think the Giants go
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: Travis Hunter.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Yeah. I well, some people would argue Abdul Carter is
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: a better outcome than try was Hunter because he's a
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: better player, but I wouldn't.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: But I'm not saying that it's because he's not a
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: better player.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: I have him as a better because you want offense.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: I want to and that's fair. That's a fair argument.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Multiple teams can get done at quarterback, and I would
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: say you are. It's already a position where teams are
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: willing to really over extend themselves and get desperate. You
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: bring up the Michael Pennox move, which I'm on the
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: record is liking. That's a desperate move. It worked out,
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: but that's a desperate, Hail Mary kind of move. I
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I feel like that's not a desperate move to me,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: that was trusting your scouting, like they thought that Michael
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: Pennix was a franchise I could get back, and he
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: fell into their laps there and they couldn't pass on
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: the franchise quarterback. I just don't think that they don't
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: think the scouts like the other players there too. I
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: just don't think that the league views should here that way.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: So okay, but but here's my point, like teams will
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: we already know teams will get desperate in a little
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: out of pocket with the quarterback situation to begin with.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: You compound that with you have both the head coach
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: and the GM having the hottest seat in the league
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: at their respective positions. The Giants are in perfect position
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: to do something totally crazy, whether it works or not,
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: whether it's the right decision or not. I don't think
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: you could take anything off the table, whether it's taking
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: a quarterback at three, whether it's passing on three and
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: going to thirty eight, whether it's taking quarterbacks at three
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: and thirty eight, whether it's not taking a quarterback at all.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: I don't think there's anything the New York Giants can
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: do at this point. There's one thing that would surprise me, Frankly,
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: and it's if they take Abdul Carter anything else. You
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: tell me they take Will Campbell, You tell me they
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: take Ted McMillan again, multiple quarterbacks, no quarterbacks. I don't
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: think there's anything the Giants can do at this point
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: that would surprise me. To me, it's all on the
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: table with them.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: I just look at the Giants right now, and you
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: mentioned it. They need to win point blank right in
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. Yes, they need to win in twenty
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: twenty five, and you know, maybe Fred Toucher and you
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: will be right about it, buying them some leash if
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: they had to develop this young quarterback like Shador Sanders.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I don't look at it that way. I think that
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: this is the Maras are gonna look at this as
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: a results based season. Are you do you get to
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: our floor wind.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: Total or not?
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Like if let's say they said it at six seven games,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: do you win seven games or do you not? If
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: you do well, you get another year. If you don't,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: you're out. Like it's I really think it's gonna be
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: that cut and dry. What helps the Giants win seven
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: plus games next year? The most sitting, drafting and sitting
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Shadoor Sanders for a portion or all of the season,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: or drafting Travis Hunters.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: So that's a very logical way to look at it.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: But are they sitting there and saying, we need to
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: make sure we have a viable quarterback this year? Jamis
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: Winston's erratic, Russell Wilson is old, do we want to
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: make sure we have a third option? So even if
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: we get here's the thing, Wilson and Winston both have
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: their questions, your your jobs on the line. Would you
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: spend like you're gonna go to Tommy DeVito. I guess
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: it's it's not necessarily a logical way of looking at it,
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: But I'm saying you have to.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Question it doesn't that's not how teams typically operate.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: Let me put it. It's not it's not how teams
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: typically Well again, I go back to the Penix thing.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Okay, but the Penix thing was different.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: But it's not. It's teams getting weird about the quarterback coaching.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Staff in the in the general manager in Atlanta or
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: in a much different place. That has to be said,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: like they're in a much different right.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: They had less incentive to do something like that. The
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: Giants are more incentivized to grasp.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: But straws they had more incentive though, to take some
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: on a on a weird pick. I guess you can't
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: if you're the Giants. You cannot draft a player at
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: three overall that doesn't play as a rookie. You can't
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: do that as a as an organ, as a regime.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: Unless they think, unless they think less of Russ than
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: we're maybe projecting something because they're really nervous about quarterback
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: and they it's that.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Doesn't make sense.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: Is it possible. I'm not saying it makes sense, but
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: teams have done it. It's kind of like, as I'm
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: speaking through it now, are they taking the Are they
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: gonna take the same approach a quarterback that the Patriots
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: took at the offensive line last year? Well, let's just
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: get bodies, Let's just get as many bodies. And so
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: this is what I'm saying. So maybe it's not at three,
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: but I'm not rolling out. And by the way, within
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: all of this, and yes day Ball and Shane hot seat,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: shouldn't Kevin Stefanski's seat be just as hot? The Browns
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: haven't made the playoffs in five years.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: I'm not rolling out to Brown's taking Sha Door.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: I'm like the Browns. We could have the same conversation
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: about are you betting your job? Like I feel better
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: betting my job on Russell Wilson than I do on
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: Kenny Pickett. And I don't feel great about Russell Wilson,
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: but I feel better about Russell Wilson than Kenny Pickett.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I am not taking anything off the table for anybody.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: But if I had to guess, the Giants know one
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: of two things. Chador stinks, nobody wants you Door yep,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: which I think is a possibility.
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: What if this all just is them getting turn the
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: second round.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: That's I'm not totally ruling that out, or like late
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: first round trade up situation. Chador stinks and nobody wants
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: him because in my mind, everybody's running for an escape
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: route from drafting Shador standers. The Saints brought back Derek
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Carr for God only knows what reason. Right The Raiders
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: traded for Gino Smith. The Giants signed multiple bridge quarterbacks.
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: The Seahawks paid Sam Donald one hundred million.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: The Seahawks paid Sam Darnald. The Steelers are gonna potentially
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: sign Aaron Rodgers. They all are getting.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: Quarterbacks pay justin fields.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: Sure, they all are getting quarterbacks to avoid having to
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: reach on a quarterback in the draft, and I think
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: a lot of them probably would feel like Shador in
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: the top five is a reach. Now the glass half
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: full again, is that maybe the quarterbacks are going one
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: to two and the Giants know it, so they know
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: they're not gonna get one, unlike the Patriots last year
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: who had three with three quarterbacks, right, and so they
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: had to go other, go elsewhere with the quarterback. Now
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: it's that's still okay for the Patriots, it's not My
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: ideal is still Travis Hunter. So I don't think that's ideal.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: But you're still getting ad to a carter, which is.
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: Great, or maybe a haul in a trade down. Yeah.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: I know that's sensitive subject.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: But another one I got fingered right, yeah, the same person. Anyways,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: let's get into armand Membu here a little bit and
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: then well we'll wrap up some of these calls.
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: Uh wait, same person. What Oh, I know what you're
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: talking about now?
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Uh with armand Membu, so we're getting a lot of calls,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: getting a lot of emails about him at four. Overall,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: my feeling on armand Membu and I did some digging
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: on this, and I asked around about this to a
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: couple of people that would know My feeling on armand
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: membu is that there's almost I would say there is
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: just as small as a sample size of career college
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: right tackles flipping sides to left tackle and being good
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: successfully successfully. Yeah, you're really looking at one guy and
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: then like one and a half. Okay, Tristan Wharf's is
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: the is the one right if you want to point
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: to somebody, just like we point to some of the
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: shorter tackles with Will Campbell and say that the guy
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: that the Shawn Slater is the guy for Will Campbell
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: in terms of shorter arm tackles that made it in
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: the NFL. If you're looking for that guy, then Tristan
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: WARF's is the guy. He was a college right tackle.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: He actually played his first season at right tackle in
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. I forget who it was.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: Who do they haven't left Donald Penn?
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: They had somebody at left tackle, might have been Donald
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Penn for Brady's Super Bowl year, Tristan Worf's played right tackle.
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: Oh it was Donovd Smith, right, Donovan Smith.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's one of those guys that guy moved on, retired, whatever,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: and Tristan Worfs has since flipped and is an All Pro.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: He's fantastic, He's one of the best. Him and Penny
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Soel are the two best tackles in football in Trent Williams.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: So that's your guy if you want that to happen.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: But yeah, it was Donald Smith, the other guy, the.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Half guy like Jedrick Wills did it. I don't know
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: if we count Jedrick Wills as like a great player.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: If they take Jedrick Will it four overall, I'm with you, yeah, yeah,
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: so do that later in the draft.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Jedrick Wills did it, and then the other couple are
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: attempting to do it. Tyler goeighton Talisa Fugala, who I
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: don't know is gonna continue to do that. Jac Latham
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: and Tennessee did it his rookie season, and then they
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: signed Dan Moore Junior to the worst contract in free
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: agency to move jac Latham back to right tackle. Right
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: So Tyler Goetton like was on and off the bench
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: all year long in Dallas trying to play left tackle
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: as a college right tackle, and jac Latham played it
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: in Tennessee for one of the worst teams in football,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: and then was immediately moved not one of the worst
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: team in football, and then was asked to move back
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: to right tackle, and they signed Dan Moore Junior. So,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: if we're gonna sit here and we're gonna say that
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: there's a tiny sample size of short arm left tackles
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: that have made it in the NFL a llah Will Campbell.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: There's similarly a tiny sample size of right tackles that
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: have flip sides to left tackles and have worked out
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: a la armand Membu. In terms of Membo the town,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of talent there. He's better
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: run blocker than he is a pass blocker. He's a
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: very very good run blocker, especially on zone schemes. On
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: the front side of zone schemes. He can hook the
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: end and get you out on the edge in a hurry,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: and he's very very good at that. He's very good
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: at climbing to the second level of the defense. He
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: is a great run blocker, really good run blocker. Based
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: off of his measureables, he can play tackle. He's got
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: the athleticism, he's got the length. His body type is
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: a little bit of guard he's a thicker body, shorter, thicker, shorter,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: stouter body type. But he's he's gonna, I think, with
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: the length and with the athleticism, is going to check
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: out as a tackle for most teams.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: So he was was he was a guard. He did
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: start playing football TI late till I think like tenth grade,
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: and he was recruited to Missouri as a guard. Yeah,
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: and then kicked out to tackle once he got there.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: So I think we're in the same spot that we
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: are with Will Campbell. If you like Armand Membu's tape
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: better than Will Campbell's, then you could say that he
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: can flip sides just like Will Campbell can make it
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: work with shorter arms. I think it's a risk just
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: the same. So if you're if you're out on Will
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Campbell was short because of short arms, I can't really
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: see how you're in on flipping Armond Membou right, Like,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I feel like both those things are equal in terms
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: of the risk with the or the risk reward with
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: the player.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: I think it's a risk either way with you. And
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: then I also just you can't draft a guy there
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: with Morgan Moses at right tackle and plan on sitting
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: him like he's.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Got the fourth overall pick, has to play right now.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: Some people might say, try him at left tackle for
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: the year, then move him back over when Morgan moses
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: or tires.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: But could do it, or just.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: Take a left tackle and then take a right tackle
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: next year in a better class.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you could do it now. The emailer that kind
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: of sparked U, you know seguitoes into this, said that
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: you know that that exact plan, right, why don't you
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: play him at left tackle as a rookie kind of
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: like guard as a fallback for Will Campbell. The fallback
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: for Armond Membu is that we're just gonna flip him
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: back to.
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: His naturals because and it's the same risk with Campbell
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: because if he can't do it, now, what are you
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: doing at left tackle? And if you're gonna say go
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: get a bridge, I would say, then just get a
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: bridge and draft the tackle next year. Yeah, it's interesting.
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: I thought.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: It's hard to project his tape. I would say as
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: a pass blocker I mentioned earlier, you know these RPO
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: college offenses run heavy offenses. I would describe Miszoo as
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: run heavy. You know, they ran the ball.
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: They were this year if you go back and watch
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: twenty three, you'll get some more because they just they
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: had to get away from Brady Cook. Yeah.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: They also he played on the right side. He did
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: not face the same level of rushers that Will Campbell did,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: And I would also just mention that he got some
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: help on that right side. They tended to help their tackles,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: like quite a bit at Missouri, chipping moving the pocket.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: Because they good luck because they had Javon Foster last
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: year if you any player before that time.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: So they didn't have as many. He doesn't have as
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: many true dropbacks on his tape as Will Campbell does.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: I think he's a decent pass protector, but I think
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: he's a better run blocker that to me screams right tackle.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: That's typically a right tackle in the NFL, high level
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: run blocker, solid pass protector. You keep him on the
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: right side so he's not on the blind side of
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: the quarterback. That's typically the thought process there. But we'll
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: see a couple of other things on tackles. One draft
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: guy that I want to get to here in a second,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: that that I have watched recently, but this is from
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: Phil in Toronto. He asks about Tyron Smith and signing
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: him as a potential stop gap. I've started to come
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: around on Tyron Smith already, but just reading the tea
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: leaves of what they've done so far, doesn't it make
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: a lot of sense that they would do something like
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: that to go into the draft and take best player
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: available and not be hamstrung by need and all that
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: kind of stuff. They've done that at every single other
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: position on the roster now, especially with Diggs right with
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: the signing out wide receiver, they have found a serviceable
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: answer for twenty twenty five for the short term at
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: every every other position on the roster edge rusher with
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Harold Landry and Chase on right tackle, with Morgan Moses
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: wide receiver, with Stefon Diggs and Matt Collins. The only
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: spot that they haven't done that yet with his left tackle,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: which makes me feel like, is there a Tyron Smith
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: offer out there? There could be. He was a I
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: would say NFL average left tackle for the Jets last year,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: just like Morgan Moses was an NFL average right tackle.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: So you're gonna get Tyron Smith. He's gonna be a
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: respectable NFL caliber left tackle. Pair him with a high
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: draft pick, even if he doesn't play the whole season
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: because the injuries, which has been a problem for him,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: you have Josh Connerley, Arion Rasrie, whoever waiting in the wings.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I don't rule it out because that's what they've done
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: everywhere else on the roster.
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: If they were to do that, how would you feel
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: about drafting I guess you could do this with Membu
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: or Campbell at four, playing that guy at left guard
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: this year, and then moving that guy out to there,
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: which tackle position next year.
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I'll love it because I just I don't want to
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: do the mic on one. No right where like he's
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: playing inside, playing outside, is playing left, he's playing right,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: like I guess I would like I would prefer to
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: have him entrenched. The only say that with a Day
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: two pick that you're not quite as invested in, And
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: that's different like if they drafted, uh just throwing a
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: name out there. If they drafted like Anthony Belton, Yeah,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: and they played him at left guard and then maybe
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: they they projected him as left tackle long term. I
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: wouldn't hate that upside play there, maybe not at four them.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: The only reason I say that is because all right,
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: if they answer it at left tackle, it truly is
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: best player available. Can't you make a really strong case
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: that Campbell's still the best player available.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: If those two guys are off the board.
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: Sure, and now you really don't need to chase a
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: need the I mean the alternative would be, does Aston
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: Genty become more realistic if they signed Tyron Smith?
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: That's what the emailer. That was the case the emailer. Okay, yeah,
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: take ash gent.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: I mean there's an argument there.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: There's an argument. I just look at the you know,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: before we even get to the repercussions on the draft. Yeah,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: I just look at what they've done so far in
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: free agency, and that's the one spot where they don't
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: have an answers.
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: But does he want to come here? That's that's why
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: they haven't gotten any left tackle? Yes, not guys that
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: want to come here. If it's Hunter, Carter gone, phone
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: not ringing for Tyron Smith is here? Who's your pick?
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Hard Carter? Hunter gone? And Tyron Smith is here?
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: Yeah? Still Will Campbell and you're playing him at left guard?
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: Is it tat McMillan to add to the receiver room?
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: Is it member with guard and moving the right tackle
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: next year? Is genty Moore in play now, is Tyler
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: Warren Moore in play Now? I'm on Jalen Walker.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: I would steer towards Campbell still, I think that they
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: might go for one of those Georgia guys, and they
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: might go for defense to really put the cherry on
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: top of the defense right and really completed, at least
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: in their eyes, right with a Jalen Walker or something.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: So you would take Campbell and playment left guard, yeah,
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: because if you're taking him there, you're playing him and
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: then the is he's kicking out next year? Yep. At
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: that point, I don't know if i'd do it. I
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: have a long look at Ashton gent Man at that point.
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: I think, honestly, I think I might go McMillan in
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: that situation because now you're like really putting that wide
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: receiver room together. You're giving Drake may at target he
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: can grow within the long term, and maybe McMillan doesn't
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: have quite the ceiling of a guy usually take up there.
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: But I guess you're still gonna have to go left
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: tackle next year in the draft. But like, if you
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: take McMillan there and he becomes your T Higgins and
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: next year you draft the Jamar Chase. You're really like
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: you're in great shape. That's a tough one. Yeah, that's
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: a tough one.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: Well, I'm still not taking genty, but I hear what
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: you're saying.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: I said i'd have a long look. I didn't say
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: I take him, but I'd have a long That's a
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: nice cop out, all right, Roger just said I might
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: take me.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Robin mccatskills has a question about Charles Grant from William
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: and Mary, who I watched recently. He's kind of the
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: the middle round, like, you know, a high upside tackle
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: prospect right like raw, really toolsy. You can see the athleticism,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: you can see the movement skills and the range at
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: the position right when you turn on the tape. He's
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: one of those guys played at a lower level at
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: William and Mary. With all those guys, I always say
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: the same thing when you turn on the tape, do
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: you know who you're watching?
- 1:38:19Speaker 7: Like?
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: Do you are?
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: You automatically like, that's the guy that's gonna be an
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: NFL player because he's obviously not playing with other NFL
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: players on the field. So there's one guy that belongs
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: in the league. And if he doesn't move like that,
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: and he doesn't displace defenders in terms of blocking. You know,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: if he doesn't have the play strength and the athleticism
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: that just are separating him from the rest of the
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: guys on the field, and then he's not the guy
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: I did think. I saw that with Charles Grant. Now
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: at that being said, his past sets need to be
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: completely reworked from the ground up. He is a total project.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: In pass protection, he's a kind of like a segmented
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: just like clunky mover and pass protection. But he also
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: is you know, baited easily out of his leverage, you know,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: with fakes and stutters and things like that, as hand
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: placement issues, footwork issues.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: He's got a.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Long way to go as a pass protector. He's a
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: true project. That's you're taking this guy to develop him
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: over a two or three year period. Not an answer
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: right away at left tackle. But that being said, when
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: you get past that Connery Simmons ursery tier, if you
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: want to throw Covin Banks in there, when you get
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: past that tier, you're really you're at like Anthony Belton
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: in Charles in Charles Brant, like that's like the next
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: tier of true left tackles, probably in the third or
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: fourth round. So I see some upside there. I see
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: some potential there, but certainly not a long term answer
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: at that position, or not a day one answer, I
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: should say, at that position. So let's get back to
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: the phones and we'll wrap it up here. A few
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: more thoughts on some pro day stuff, but let's let's
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: get back to the phones. Craig is in South Carolina.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: What's up, Craig?
- 1:39:55Speaker 12: Hello, here you go.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: You're on the air. What's up?
- 1:39:59Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: You can?
- 1:40:00Speaker 12: I mean, okay, cool, let me turn up my sound here. Sorry. Anyways, God,
- 1:40:04Speaker 12: I am just so excited about getting to Pond Diggs.
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: And if you.
- 1:40:09Speaker 12: Actually, for one, I agree with what you said Evan
- 1:40:12Speaker 12: on he he elevates the receiving room immensely. And if
- 1:40:17Speaker 12: you've seen his workouts, I mean, how much weight he's
- 1:40:20Speaker 12: actually putting on that knee. I just blew my mind.
- 1:40:22Speaker 12: I'm like, man, this guy's gonna be ready to go.
- 1:40:24Speaker 12: So I know you guys are hypothetical and whether he'll
- 1:40:28Speaker 12: be ready to go, but I think I think, man,
- 1:40:30Speaker 12: it's going to be something amazing to watch and totally
- 1:40:34Speaker 12: change the teams. But you know, I coached football for
- 1:40:39Speaker 12: five years So this is how I fulfill my need
- 1:40:42Speaker 12: now that I'm not coaching. Listening to Evan and his
- 1:40:45Speaker 12: breakdown has been amazing. But one thing about Bill Belichick
- 1:40:50Speaker 12: is whenever he couldn't defend someone and he would out,
- 1:40:54Speaker 12: he would, you know, make a big effort, go out
- 1:40:56Speaker 12: and get him. Like Milton Williams. There's a guy that
- 1:40:59Speaker 12: pretty much really hard to defend. Thinking with Diggs, but
- 1:41:04Speaker 12: I liked your take on the Tyrone Smith. I think
- 1:41:09Speaker 12: we need to go grab him right away.
- 1:41:11Speaker 9: That's all I got.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Thanks Greg, Thanks for the call. It's exciting and I
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: was texting you about this before the show. I don't
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: know if he'll be healthy for training camp, yeah, but
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: if he is, I'm just really looking forward to seeing
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: him practice because we cover camps and I'm not trying
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: to throw shade at the receivers that we've covered. But
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: it's not exactly been Steffan Diggs right, like, we haven't
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: really seen that. The one time I saw it was
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: DeVante Adams in Vegas right when we had the joint practices,
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: AJ Brown last year when he came for the joint
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: practices with Philadelphia. But to see a guy of that
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: caliber practice day in and day out. I think would
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: be a great just for entertainment purposes, but also great
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: just for understanding what it looks like like in a
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: practice of Like, this is what an elite receiver looks
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: like on the practice field. I hope that we get
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: to see that at least a little bit, maybe towards
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the end of training camp. All right, this is a
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: this is.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: A big one. We gotta we gotta go to big
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: ee Eldred.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: You got a receiver?
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: Man? Do you like it? What do you think.
- 1:42:14Speaker 11: There?
- 1:42:15Speaker 12: Hey?
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Fello's how y'all do it? Hey? Yeah? I like Diggs.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: I wanted Diggs when he tried to leave Minnesota and
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: Brady get the Kicks or whatever and billow Chick wouldn't
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: take him eighteen Buffalo got him after that and who
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: I ask every every year? So I wanted him back then.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: But question something my hurt on the radio, Evan and uh,
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: let's say Travis Hunter is right there, poor you right there,
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: dollas come up to you, say they give you they
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: number one they won this year, one next year, a
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: two this year and a three to four next year
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: to get Travis Herner? Would you do it?
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: It's a good question, alidra Dot thanks for the call,
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: and I'm glad we finally got a receive for Aldred
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: has been calling in.
- 1:43:02Speaker 3: There's some extra in net in that in at home.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Yeah, since I got here, and I'm sure even before that,
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: I know it's big DK guy. So that's all the
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: way back to nineteen. I would not do that for
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: Travis Hunter, I don't think, just because to me, it
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: just it marries up way too well with need and
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: player and talent and all that stuff.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: You're getting a future first. I'd see if I could
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: switch those secondary picks, get a future second and a third.
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: This year you get two extra I don't think Cowboy's
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: gonna be very good this year. You get two extra
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: top fifty picks. Next year, in a much better draft,
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: You're still gonna be able to get a solid player
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: at twelve. Like if you can get Matthew Golden at
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: twelve and then you have two first round picks next year,
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: that's tantalizing.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Man, it's exciting. It's it's intriguing. I should say, so
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: is pairing Travis Hunter and Drake May for the next decade.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: That's true, right, but what if it's uh, the Kendrick
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: law next year. I'm just pulling names. I really haven't
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: done that much info on these guys, but like Carnell
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: Tait next year from Ohio State, and it's that guy, and.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: I just I would do it for abdul Carter. They
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: have enough on defense. Yes, abdul Carter would be the
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: finishing piece, and that would be you have.
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: To get a haul to trade abdol Carter. But like
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: if someone think give you a hall, you get.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: A haul if if they if it's abdul Carter at
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: four and I said this over the weekend, it's the
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: other thing that got me chirped on the internet. If
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: it's abdul Carter at four and somebody offers you that
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: that's the will Anderson trade package, which I think was
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: my take. By the way, So will Anderson trade package
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: to move down to let's say to ten to twelve
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: range and you get all the stuff that that Eldred said.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I think the Patriots have too seriously consider doing that
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: because I think they could play a game tomorrow with
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: Mike Brabel coaching them up and have a pretty good defense.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Now, abdul Carter would maybe take it from good to great.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: I don't allow for that, but I think that you
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: would have invested heavily now Digs. It doesn't change it,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: but it kind of changes the tap a little bit.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: But you've invested so heavily on the defensive side of
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: the ball all off season that I think that you
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: have enough on that side of the ball to be
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: competitive if you traded down and you got the Hall,
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: which is the big part of it, right, and then
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: you were able to still take a tackle or receiver
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: at let's say ten with the Chicago Bears or twelve
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: with the Dallas Cowboys, or whatever the case may be.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I would strongly consider that one Travis Hunters makes it
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: a little bit harder just because of the position. But
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: I think you have to consider it as a team
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: like the Patriots that have a lot of holes still.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: And again, there's future drafts, right, you have a future
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: pick next year. You can still get back in the
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: top five without having to actually have a record indicative
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: of a top five pick. Right, you have all the
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: same unition to move up and move around in a
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: better draft. Like don't lose sight of that. There's more
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: rounds beyond the first round this year, and there's more
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: drafts beyond this draft two first round. I don't remember
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: when was the last time the Patriots had two first
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: round I guess would have been eighteen. That kind of
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: blew that one. But before that, Chandler Jones, Dante high Tower, right,
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: or you can move up and really shoot up the
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: board there, maybe you push your chips a little more
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: down the road. And now, dare I say we're talking
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: about Jeremiah Smith, like, having two first round picks can
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: be incredibly, incredibly valuable. Do not sleep on what that
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: does for the long term outlook of the franchise. This
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: is what we were talking about back before that Buffalo game, right,
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: this is what I said about falling from one to four.
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: I don't think it really impacts their offseason this year
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: because if they're gonna take Carter at four, or they're
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: gonna take Hunter at four, Like, if they're gonna take
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: Carter Hunter at one, they still very well might have
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: a shot to take that guy at four. The difference
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: is you could say, well, if we move back to three,
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: we'll still get one of those guys and we'll get
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: a future first for next year. That's where winning that
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: game against Buffalo changes things, is you lose that ability
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: to pick up the future first. You still can maybe
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: do that, but if you do it, you're punting on
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: on Hunter Carter. So the other the Hunter and Carter.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I should say really quickly about the draft capital that
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: comes from that trade down. Don't sleep on the fact
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: that you can trade those picks for a player that too. Right, Like,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: so let's say next offseason you can swing that big
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: receiver trade with the.
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: Extra draft cap and you still a first round picking.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: Right, So like that, I I look at it and
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: not necessarily about being able to move the or on
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: the board. I look at it as being able to
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: move that pick for a veteran player.
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: Flexibility. Yeah, it's all about flexibility.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I think you do have to think about it.
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: Jeff is in Virginia, what's up?
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: But it has to be a haul. You're not just
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: trading Abdol Carter to move back to your spots and
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: pick up a second Sorry first time, Jeff.
- 1:47:48Speaker 13: You guys just talked about trading for players, and we
- 1:47:51Speaker 13: keep talking about a stop gap at left tackle. Their
- 1:47:54Speaker 13: chargers haven't extended later yet and they just drafted Joe All.
- 1:47:58Speaker 13: Why are we not offering them a crap ton of
- 1:48:01Speaker 13: picks for him. They moved all to left tackle, they
- 1:48:04Speaker 13: draft a right tackle. We got our left tackle for
- 1:48:06Speaker 13: the next five years, making my highest state guy. Do
- 1:48:09Speaker 13: you guys think that would be a good option to
- 1:48:11Speaker 13: just solve our left tackle issue? And what would you
- 1:48:13Speaker 13: be willing to trade?
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: Is it four?
- 1:48:15Speaker 13: Is it thirty eight plus the future first?
- 1:48:16Speaker 7: Is it the.
- 1:48:17Speaker 13: Hugsl trade plus thum? Anyway, I'll take it off there, I.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: Think, thanks Jeff.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: Look, I would take Rashaan Slater in a heartbeat.
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I don't think that's happened. No, They're
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: they're gonna pay him. There's teams aren't like we just
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: went through this right, and they might take it down
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: to the wire like the Ravens did with Stanley team,
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: especially a team like the Chargers that wants to play,
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: that wants to win at the line of scrimmage above
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: all else. They're not letting Rashaun Slater go. They're gonna
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: pay him hypothetically, you know, can you fly, can you switch?
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: Can you flip four for him? I'd probably do that outright.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: You know, would you trade your second, third and fourth
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: round pick for him? I might do that. Hesitant I'd
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: probably give a few future first. I'm kind of hesitant
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: to trade future picks in this draft. I don't think
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: you're gonna see a lot of future picks move because
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: teams aren't gonna borrow from the future for weaker draft.
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: But I just the Chargers are nuts if they trade later.
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: Even getting a right tackle is hard enough. So even
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: if you're gonna move alt Over, that still creates a
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: major hole in a position that's tough to fill. You
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: pay tackles, it's what you do. They took all those
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: receivers off the books. They took a couple of their
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: big paid defensive players off the books in Bosa and
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: in mac Derwin. James is getting up there. They're gonna
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: get out of that contract soon. A lot of their
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: team's gonna be on rookie deals. Besides Herbert. They can pay,
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: and they should pay Rashawn Slater.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: I don't see Jim Harbuch giving up his trenches. No,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: I don't see that. I don't necessarily think it would
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: take four to get Rishawn Slater, just because we've seen
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: a time and time again when a player needs to
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: get paid, there's a tax in the trade for that.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: In the NFL, where you know, if the team that's
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: acquiring that player that also needs to give him megan extension.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: We just saw this happen with DK Metcalf. I think
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: you get a little bit less than what you would
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: get normally if the player was under under contract for
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: you know, a longer period of term. So I don't
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: know if it would take four. I think the Larmie
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Tunnel trade is probably a framework of where play. Teams
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: would probably start with Rashaun Slater, but I would love
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: the player. I don't see the Chargers doing it.
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think it's happening.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: All right, Let's take this last call and then I
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: want to get to one last thing here before we
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: rap it. But Rio is in Texas?
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: What's up? Ryo?
- 1:50:27Speaker 8: Hey you guys, thanks taking my call. Uh So, I
- 1:50:31Speaker 8: want to bring up a point and then ask the question.
- 1:50:35Speaker 8: The point I want to bring up is as far
- 1:50:36Speaker 8: as the two teams drafting head of the Patriots that
- 1:50:40Speaker 8: potentially be looking at a quarterback, Arch Manning has to
- 1:50:44Speaker 8: come into the conversation right as far as why they're
- 1:50:47Speaker 8: not going to look at Jadar Standers because.
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: Yes and no, it can be the prize yeah, I
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: think another question.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: Oh do you have another question?
- 1:50:56Speaker 8: Yeah? Okay, And my question is, as far as this
- 1:51:00Speaker 8: draft goes, who's the prospect? Because I don't like the
- 1:51:04Speaker 8: top of this drafts. I said that last week. I've
- 1:51:07Speaker 8: kind of dubbed it like the Island of Misfit Toys.
- 1:51:09Speaker 8: All these guys have problems. So who's the guy in
- 1:51:13Speaker 8: later rounds of the draft, you know, after the first
- 1:51:15Speaker 8: day you think has potentialed the the best player at
- 1:51:19Speaker 8: his position in say three years.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Yeah, good question to the first point. Thanks for the call, Reo.
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: I don't know if we've seen enough of arch Manning
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: for me to sit here in say.
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: Arch Manning's Texas going with Quinn eyrs No, who's the
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: elik uh? When he got hurt last year two years
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: ago and they were making a playoff push when yours
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: got hurt, they could have gone to Manning, and they
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: went to some Malik Murphy instead, who was also a
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: true freshman sore a freshman, so it was an experienced thing.
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: Like they told you, they didn't think arch Manning was ready.
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: That was two years ago. But I'm not as gaga
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: over arch Manning as everybody else. It's also if we
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: talked about this earlier, the Giants coaches, Brown's coaches that
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: are betting on their jobs. It's tough to go to
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: the owner and say, sorry, we went three and thirteen again,
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: but arch Manning will be the ant, Like you can't.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: I just thought, an, I don't think we have enough
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: film on arch Manning yet to say that he is.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: This is not underclassman Trevor Lawrence, underclassman Andrew Luck Like,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: this isn't one of those guys where you have a
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: full season of tape out on him already, where we're
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: sitting here and saying, you know, underclassman Caleb Williams, right,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: it wins the Heisman Trophy as a as a true sophomore, Like,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: we're not there yet. I don't think with arch Manning
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: to his second question kind of segues into my last
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: thing here that.
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: I say, do you running backs count here? Because obviously
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: they just don't go in first.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna segue into it, don't worry. So Alexander emailed
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: it and he said that he loves the show, thank you,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: and loves the draft coverage, thank you. But the one
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: thing that he says that he is missing is we
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: haven't done recency.
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: Bias in a while. We haven't.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: I know, we've had a lot of news and stuff
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: like that to talk about, so we haven't done it.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: We only have seven minutes, but I wanted to do
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: a little bit of recency bias. I have recently gone
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: through the top fifteen running backs in this draft. I
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: want to say consensus right. You know, I always put
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: the consensus board up and go right down the consensus board,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: so I have a pretty good feel at least the
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: of the of the top in the middle of this
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: running back class. If I had the guest to answer
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Rio's question, who would be the best player available to
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: on Day two or who could be the eventual best player,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: I think it will be a running back.
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: And there's a couple of guys that I particularly enjoyed
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: watching that we can get to here in terms of
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: recency bias. But would you would you agree with that
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: it's either going to be a pass rusher it's going
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: to be a running back.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there's the two best positions in this in this draft.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: Maybe a safety like if mccouba falls, maybe safety.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: But all right, so let's get to some of the
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: running backs here. For the last seven minutes a little
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: bit of recency bias. So I'll just read off my
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: top five that I have this pretty pretty locked in
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: now if good about it. I went pretty consensus at
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: the top Ashton denty one, Lamar and Hampton too. But
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: I didn't Hampton's interesting though, like he's I think Hampton
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: teams are gonna love him because he's just well rounded
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: and he projects to have a high volume role. I
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: didn't think that he was super dynamic like in the
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: open field, like he's more of like a power back,
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: you know, between the tackles. But there's such a nice
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: role projection for him, of of a floor of what
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: he could be. So gent Hampton one two. I had
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: Trayvon Henderson at three and Quinn Shawn Jenkins at four.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: I know you, I.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: Believe at least. Yeah, like it close.
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: You flipped those two. A lot of people flip those two.
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: It's it's a flavor thing. Like I think Judkins is
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: more of like a home run hitter. Henderson's more of
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: like a well rounded You're gonna give him more of
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: a volume role, I.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: Think, so Judkins, Uh, I think he runs angrier like
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: he runs.
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: So it was bigger.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: He runs with a little bit more power and a
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: little bit more finish to his game. But the reason
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: why I like Henderson a little bit better is a
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: little looser. He moves a little bit smoother. He's a
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: little bit more explosive. If you ask me, I got
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: a little bit more top end speed. I don't think
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: that he's as good. He's probably like you know, we
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: always talk about tears like day one version, Day two version,
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Trayvon Henderson reminds me a little bit of Jamier Gibbs,
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: like I would say Day two Jamier Gibbs. Okay, not
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: quite as good as Gibbs, but in terms of the
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: big playability and the explosiveness both as a pass catcher
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: and a running back, you know, as a ballcarrier. That's
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: how he reminds me. I think Judkins is more linear,
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: like he's a little bit more of a stiffer athlete
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: that's going to get downhill and run people over with
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: speed to power, whereas I think Henderson's loose, like Henderson's
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: a I think.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: You're rating underrating judkins agility a little bit. But yeah,
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: Henderson's better in that regard, So.
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: Gent Hampton Henderson, Judkins so I think that's the clear
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: top four in some order for pretty much everybody.
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: I think some Pece people have Caleb Johnson up there.
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: There's some people that really like Caleb Johnson.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: So I had Dylan Samson from Tennessee next. I love
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: Dylan Samson. I think that guy's a baller. Uh Again,
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: I think you can tell I kind of have a
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: type as in the same with receivers he.
- 1:56:16Speaker 3: Met with Patriots.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: By the way, I like explosive guys. I like guys
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: that can cut and go. I like guys that I
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: can hit big plays. The difference that I saw was
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: Samson and Johnson. I thought Samson was much better between
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: the tackles in terms of, you know, vision and in
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: elusiveness and jump cut ability between the tackles. He's one
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: of those guys that can snake through the line of
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: scrimmage and then the hit the ground running once he
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: gets to.
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: Day also running into a lot of like five six
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: man boxes with Tennessee's offense.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: That's fair, but I just saw a little bit more
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: of that efficiency. You know, let's get on a track,
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: let's jump cut out of attack.
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: He's definitely looser.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: With Caleb Johnson, Caleb Johnson, DeMarco Murray two point zero right,
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: like he's he's one of those guys.
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: Marco Murray is.
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: Off tackle, toss, stretch, runs really high, runs too high probably,
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: but like it makes it work. And when you get
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: him out into runways and into space, he's he's off
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: to the races, right like that's that's his game. He's
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: a zone runner. He's very good at it. But to me,
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: what I saw with Caleb Johnson was a lot of
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: runs in space, you know, like you're just tossing it
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: out to him or you're getting him off out on
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: the edge. Those guys worry me a little bit just
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: projecting to the NFL, because you don't there's a lot
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: more condensed space once you get to the league than
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: when there is.
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: You can't run to the wide hash and get you know,
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: outside right.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Whereas with Samson, I saw a little bit more of
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: that make miss talent in trash like in the middle
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: of the field, which I liked a little bit better.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: But I think Caleb Johnson is a good player too.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: I think I texted, so did you have him five?
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: Or had I had him six? So I have genty
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: Hampton Henderson, Judkins, Samson, in Johnson, lots of names, and
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: then I have Devin Neil from Wow. Okay, I'll get
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: to Scattabo in a second. I know we gotta go
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: quickly here though.
- 1:58:11Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: I really just like Devin Neil's game for the NFL again,
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: same kind of thing. Great contact balance, great power behind
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: his pads. Great he's gonna be able to handle a
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: high volume between the tackles. He's going to be an
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: early down work course for a team in the NFL.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: I just think that he really translates nicely to a
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: high volume role. Cam Skataboo. My concern with Cam He's
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: next Cam Skataboo. My concern with him is kind of
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: couple together playing style of shelf life, right, Like is
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: he going to be a bowling ball like that at
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: the NFL level and be breaking tackles like he was
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: doing at the college level. And if he does wear
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: contact and have to break tackles like that at the
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: NFL level, Like, how long is that gonna last?
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: Like, he can't play like that forever.
- 1:58:54Speaker 3: I think he can. I mean, I think he can
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: be a contributor. I just don't know, like contact decide
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: he's kind of maxed out physically. Yeah, because he's an
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: older prospect, he's a spellback. I keep going back, like,
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: isn't he kind of just a more physical Rex ber
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: Khead Because he can catch. That's the most underrated part
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: of his game. Like, he can play in the passing game,
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: so he's gonna be able to split between that early
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: down and passing down role. But he brings an edge.
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: I know it's a lazy comp but I think he's
- 1:59:22Speaker 3: like a more physical I've compared a bunch of backs
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: in this draft to Rex per Kid, So I just
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: look very very there's a lot of backs in this
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: draft that are well rounded, that do everything well.
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: If you put Skataboo in a vacuum and you just
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: say grade this player based off the tape, he would
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: be much higher than this on my list. He'd probably be, uh,
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: you know, RB five on this list. I just look
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: at it though when you project it into the NFL, Like,
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: what how much shelf life and longevity is he going
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: to have playing like that? Is his top end speed
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: and all that stuff going to be a factor, Like
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: he doesn't really get away from anybody.
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a spellback that's not a guy that you're
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: I just I worry for big explosive runs really quickly.
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: Really liked RJ. Harvey from UCF as well. Another one
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: kind of similar to Samson, Like you're kind of a
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: mid late day two, mid day three Sampson, Right, you know,
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: a guy that can really scoot and really make guys miss.
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: Good class.
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: I had thirteen guys in this class with a higher
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: grade than anybody last year. My highest graded running back
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: last year is Blake Krum. I have thirteen guys and
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: a good draft, so very good class at running back.
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: So that's a little recency buyas for you on the
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: running backs doing tight ends today as well, right now,
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: finishing those guys up. I did like Harold Fan in
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: a lot.
- 2:00:40Speaker 3: I did like, I don't know how I feel about
- 2:00:41Speaker 3: Harrold Fan.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: Is a weird, weird player, Like he's got you know,
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: six three two forty obviously played at Bowling Green. That's Mac.
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: That is the Mac.
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but he did he had great tape against Penn State,
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: so it's not like he just did it.
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: Yeah, as he reminds me a lot of Johnny Smith. Yeah,
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: and I just it's we saw what Johnny Smith did
- 2:00:57Speaker 3: in Josh McDaniel's.
