- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian.
- 0:03We've podcast. Today's guest is the
- 0:05singer-songwriter, hailing, all the way from Los Angeles in the
- 0:08USA. His name is Lenny.
- 0:09Jay. Welcome to the show.
- 0:11How you doing? Good.
- 0:12Thank you so much for having me. It's a pleasure to have you.
- 0:15I'm already just thrown off because I realized my camera
- 0:17angle is normally over here. Now, it's here.
- 0:19So it's everything's different but I don't know.
- 0:21I'm entering a new phase of the podcast right now.
- 0:23I've as a the time of releasing this, I will have already gone
- 0:29over. 50 episodes which is mind-blowing and I have a guest
- 0:34today. Thank you.
- 0:36I have a guest in you that one of the things you said of
- 0:40country camera, which I want to just jump straight into because
- 0:45you sort of caught me at a time where the podcast is, Shifting
- 0:48more to me focusing on like life stories because when I first
- 0:52started doing this podcast, you know, I would just interview
- 0:55people and just, you know, try and get a just a good
- 0:58conversation out of them. It but now I'm less focused on
- 1:04like just trying to find like oh an actor or a musician or
- 1:07whatever like it's more like do you have a story?
- 1:09Everyone has a story to share. Everyone has stories from their
- 1:12lives and your story. And again, I've done my research
- 1:17on you, but I've kept it light on purpose because I like to
- 1:19learn about people as I do the show, but a big theme with
- 1:23everything that you do is positivity the power of
- 1:26positivity. So let's start there.
- 1:29Where Yeah, there's this positivity emanate from for you.
- 1:35I think it started when maybe when I was a teenager and I
- 1:41realized, I think I caught on how stressful life life was very
- 1:47early on. Like, I've witnessed people,
- 1:50whether it's my surroundings of, like family or even friends, and
- 1:54I saw a lot of people were, like, they get caught up in life
- 2:00when, you know, you sorry, leaving your teens, you know.
- 2:05As I continue to make music in my life.
- 2:07I know this everyone was making music about what they wanted to
- 2:12be or when they reached riches or this success point.
- 2:18And I'll I just started thinking as I was doing my career, like
- 2:23everyone singing about that or look like love and I was like,
- 2:28what about, you know, the journey like a lot of people on
- 2:33this journey and I feel like It's the beginning or the end
- 2:36and sometimes they sing about the journey afterwards and I was
- 2:41like, well, I'm on this journey and it'll always be a journey,
- 2:44even when your reach success or whatever it is.
- 2:48You're trying to accomplish and I just saw it that angle is
- 2:53something needed right now. In music.
- 2:55I think there is a void missing in music and it's that honesty
- 2:58and that you know, you're speaking for anyone just Working
- 3:04hard or going through it. And I think that lift me up
- 3:09Spirit needs to be passed around a little more.
- 3:12I feel like we're all competing and there's enough room at the
- 3:16top for all of us. There's enough money in the
- 3:19world. So people aren't starving.
- 3:21There's enough clothes to put on people's backs, you know, so
- 3:26that's where that came from. I just, I'm just tired of the
- 3:30world. Honestly.
- 3:31It's such a sad place, like I'm really not happy with it.
- 3:36Yeah, I get that. I get that.
- 3:39I gave you a coming from. I think.
- 3:41Is it? Because of, how would he know
- 3:42you said in your teen? So what were you like?
- 3:44Early 20s 23? Something.
- 3:47I'm actually 31. No, you're not.
- 3:50Yeah, yo to the me. What is this?
- 3:53Look at this guy? I have a few more years of
- 3:58knowledge than you not old dude. Yeah.
- 4:02Yeah. Yeah, so I'm 31.
- 4:04Yeah. Wow, just of congratulation.
- 4:08Thank you know guess it's the LA Live.
- 4:10Yeah, what's this? Originally from New York City,
- 4:14my whole life. The secret is I think not what
- 4:17you do, but you don't do and I don't actually drink alcohol.
- 4:23I don't do drugs never have I think things simple as that I
- 4:27exercise and you know, like things like that I think
- 4:32contribute to it, also my parents.
- 4:34It looks super young. So there's that.
- 4:38Yeah, but yeah, just exercise, drink your water and everything
- 4:45in moderation. If you do drink liquor, you
- 4:48know, be responsible and stay away from hard drugs.
- 4:53So other than, you know, obvious like Fitness and stuff.
- 4:57What prompted your decision to sort of avoid those things
- 5:00because a lot of the time, you know, when you're in your teens,
- 5:02you might try all these things and stuff.
- 5:04But it's a big decision. You know, I mean, it's
- 5:07everywhere, everywhere you go. Yeah, even if you're just like
- 5:09hanging out with your friends like somewhere, that's not even
- 5:13necessarily associated with our collars.
- 5:15Like, for example, give you an example, like there's a, there's
- 5:18an arcade. There's a few arcade bars where
- 5:20I live right with retro games. So cool.
- 5:22Right? Love it.
- 5:23Right, but they say they have bars as well.
- 5:26They serve drinks and it's kind of K, then that would like
- 5:28everywhere you go has a bar has access to these things.
- 5:31So like I guess My question is like, a sort of a two-part
- 5:36thing. Like why are you not interested
- 5:38in doing those things and to like, how did you avoid that?
- 5:41And as I just want to kind of focus on that a little bit.
- 5:44Yeah, it's a mix of things. It's my parents were always
- 5:50watching me like making sure I didn't do things like that.
- 5:54Which it, which is a good thing. Yeah.
- 5:57Okay. Drinking underage.
- 5:58And I didn't which I mean they did a great job and I do think
- 6:03it was kind of like a Tactic to from my parents.
- 6:06And if you drink like well, you know, like what was it mean
- 6:10girls, if you have sex, you got pregnant and died, you know,
- 6:14like it was it felt like that growing up, you know, but I
- 6:18wasn't like, you know, I wasn't like, you have to be no, so to
- 6:23the point growing up, my parents were rockers.
- 6:25They showed me all the music. I like, the reason, my music
- 6:28sounds like it does is from AllMusic from my parents.
- 6:31So they weren't strict in a sense, you know.
- 6:34Oh, like, I couldn't watch TV. Like, I watch cartoons.
- 6:36I was playing video games with them, but it was just like that
- 6:40stuff. They were very weary of who I
- 6:42hung out with and stuff and I think because of like, my father
- 6:46had a rough upbringing until he made it out himself and, you
- 6:51know, established, family and himself.
- 6:53And like I would imagine his environment, the people that he
- 6:57tells me about, like they weren't great people.
- 7:00And I imagine even witnessing that first hand made him.
- 7:04Protective of me, making sure I didn't go around some of the
- 7:08people he was around only because but he was also in that
- 7:12situation. I wasn't when I was growing up
- 7:15but I think you know, it gets stuck in your head, the things
- 7:19you go through. So I believe he was just super
- 7:21protective and that's how I stay the way.
- 7:25So when it started being presented to me I was like I can
- 7:30die from this, you know, but then part of me was like, you
- 7:33know what, I see a lot of people do this stuff, and it doesn't
- 7:37turn out great in the long run. And then I really, and then the
- 7:42second part of it was, when I was old enough.
- 7:45I I did try some drinks and, like, it really makes my stomach
- 7:50hurt instantly and like, I feel all sad and like, yeah, want
- 7:56this stuff, like that's how I feel like I I've never Ben
- 7:59blackout drunk. I've never liked stumbled
- 8:03anywhere. Like, I'm think I'm scared to
- 8:06get to that level. I also have a serious amount of
- 8:11anxiety, and I think that is a part of it because I definitely
- 8:16have like medical anxiety. Like, I've been tired the last
- 8:19two days and like, which is normal.
- 8:22And I'm like, what's wrong with me?
- 8:24Am I sick? Do I need to go to hospital?
- 8:26And then I'm like, I went to bed at 4 a.m.
- 8:29Two nights in a row and woke up at 8, of course.
- 8:31I'm tired, you know, so I think it's a mix of those things that
- 8:35led me to stray away from it, which isn't a bad thing, you
- 8:39know? No, not at all.
- 8:41I think, the reason I asked is just out of curiosity.
- 8:44I think, like, as I said before, like everywhere you go, these
- 8:48things are available and not just alcohol as well.
- 8:51But like, you look at like the popularity of assilex CBD
- 8:54products and vnz are in Los Angeles.
- 8:59Right, he's every like and and these things go through like
- 9:03Trends and stuff and they do right?
- 9:06And I think as you get older you start realizing these the
- 9:10problems with these things too, like for instance.
- 9:12I was in the store the other day and I was just grabbing myself a
- 9:15couple of snacks and I thought about buying myself a drink and
- 9:20then I just kind of looked at it and I was like, I could get that
- 9:24or I could just get some like ginger beer, which is not
- 9:27alcoholic. But why?
- 9:29By the way, why do they call it? Ginger beer when it's, I don't
- 9:32know. That doesn't make sense to me.
- 9:33There must be a term for the word beer from a while ago, that
- 9:36maybe being and then someone was like, What if we could get drunk
- 9:40off, you know, isn't that how every invention goes?
- 9:43What if we do this to it? I don't know.
- 9:47My guests maybe. But yeah, the whole thought
- 9:50process went through my head is like I could spend that money
- 9:54and feel that maybe a bit groggy tomorrow or I could just get the
- 9:57snack with this soft drink and not feel that way.
- 10:00And then I opted to do that and I was like, oh, okay, and I
- 10:04don't know, I get the same as you like most of the time
- 10:06drinking's. Okay, but sometimes you do get
- 10:08those moments where you just feel like sad, it doesn't how
- 10:12good the day is. Yeah, right.
- 10:15That sounds so, but yeah. I don't know.
- 10:17I, I think I have a very sensitive stomach to, yeah, it
- 10:22only accepts compliments. Now, like, in the morning, I
- 10:27found myself like a little nauseous, sometimes.
- 10:29I wonder why. And then like, I don't know.
- 10:33I think it's just who I am. Because pretty healthy.
- 10:37I go to the doctor. Check on myself.
- 10:39Really paranoid about my health. That's good.
- 10:42It's just good thing to be paranoid about.
- 10:44Yeah, so, Yeah, I think those things are the factors that led
- 10:50me, you know, and if you do drink, you know, just be
- 10:53responsible like you really do. Like it says it on the bottle.
- 10:57There is a reason. It says it.
- 10:59There are you know instructions on how to drink like you gotta
- 11:03be careful. You could really hurt yourself.
- 11:05The stuff is poison soon as you take a sip you're putting poison
- 11:08in you. That's that's the funny thing
- 11:09about. Yeah.
- 11:10I don't worry guys this podcast won't just be about alcohol, but
- 11:14this is ridiculous to this topic and I I often forget that
- 11:18sometimes I'm just like, oh, I feel I feel ill.
- 11:21I feel terrible. And it's like, well, yeah, dude,
- 11:23it's poison. Like, it's to most people drink
- 11:27to they're gonna be like, I'm gonna turn this up.
- 11:29This is enough negativity from like, yeah.
- 11:33It's about rock and roll. We're gonna party with
- 11:36happiness, with me, speaking about negativity.
- 11:39Obviously, the antithesis of negativity is positive.
- 11:42See you see what I did there? We transitioned back, so Great,
- 11:47but yeah, CC tricks of the trained on your Instagram.
- 11:54The whole thing is a treasure Trove of everything you're doing
- 11:56right now and we'll talk a little bit about the music in a
- 11:58second. But I just I pay a lot of
- 12:00attention to the things people say.
- 12:03And the way they brand themselves in a part of that
- 12:05comes from genuine curiosity and especially building an idea of
- 12:09my guests and who they are. And the type of conversation we
- 12:12might have but also because I'm sort of obsessed with marketing.
- 12:16In advertising because it might Brown up, bring it.
- 12:20Bring it. What?
- 12:20I studied. Etc.
- 12:23So marketing background. Anyway, one of the things that
- 12:25you said, which I don't know if it's a throwaway comment or if
- 12:29it was part of your ethos on music and what you're trying to
- 12:33achieve with it, but I thought was very interesting.
- 12:35You said, you want to bring back that old.
- 12:38Kind of Hollywood, heartthrob Vibe and just to put this into
- 12:43perspective. So this guy is built like it's
- 12:45got air. ABS right.
- 12:48So it looks fantastic and the hot but that nobody know,
- 12:52serious note. The whole thing is like a
- 12:56there's a lot of places. There's a lot of shots from your
- 12:59most recent music video and it's a very like sunshine in their la
- 13:03la. Happy Vibe quite heavy music.
- 13:05I wasn't expecting it when I when I went and checked out.
- 13:08Okay. Those are I was expecting like a
- 13:10pop. Damn Foreman.
- 13:11Has this like this heavy rock songs?
- 13:12Play. Nice nice, but let's speak a
- 13:16little About that. Like I suppose it's going to
- 13:19again, be a two-part question. What do you mean when you say
- 13:22bring back the kind of old Hollywood heartthrob thing?
- 13:25And also, let's talk about, you know, what you're trying to do
- 13:28with this music right now. Like what's the message?
- 13:30Yeah. So the mean know it's funny
- 13:34because here in LA and you know all over the US people call me
- 13:39pop not rock at all. Oh far this right.
- 13:43And I'm like, I'm a rock artists like and like I mean, I love
- 13:47rock music. I know it's, you know, on the
- 13:49mainstream side bomb playing guitar, riff in some solos, but
- 13:53they're like your pop and I'm like that.
- 13:55I'm like, that's fine. I mean, that's where you make a
- 13:58lot of money, you know, I'm a bit.
- 14:01But, um, so the sound and everything I'll go there first
- 14:06before the looks. It's funny why I started doing
- 14:11the heartthrob thing. It's really funny.
- 14:13So anyway, the sound is very like, Stadium music.
- 14:18I want you to sing along. You know, I want you to sing the
- 14:22na na na nananana, you know, when you sing those.
- 14:26So so woke up just now. So my voice is weird.
- 14:31It's also 9 a.m. And literally you're like, you
- 14:34ready to join and I was laying in bed in my life and I was
- 14:38like, yeah, Nikki. Yeah.
- 14:42It's so like I was I wanted to bring back that like full sing
- 14:49along like Stadium music. Like there.
- 14:53Aren't many artists here in America filling stadiums
- 14:57anymore. I'm not talking about clubs or
- 15:00Arenas. I'm talking about stadiums.
- 15:0380,000 people like big Arenas, like big stadiums.
- 15:09There's a few artists student. Taylor Swift, did it.
- 15:12I believe Ed Sheeran is doing it, but the fact that I have to
- 15:16think So tough to like who's playing stadiums aside from the
- 15:21Rolling Stones, you know, all the great ones like from back in
- 15:27the day are selling stadiums, but not many, current people are
- 15:32even like I saw just recently like Justin Bieber in the
- 15:37beginning of the pandemic. He was doing a stadium tour and
- 15:41how to postpone it and I might be wrong on that but I thought
- 15:45like, wow, he's He's just starting to do stadiums or
- 15:48within the recent years because like he's been one of the
- 15:51biggest pop names forever and he's doing a Rena's.
- 15:54So I'm like, why isn't music in a stadium like Queen?
- 15:59Like what happened at a boom? Boom like that.
- 16:02Huge like we're together like we are going to stand together and
- 16:07like, chance something like, and I don't know.
- 16:10So I love that type of music like and so with that as well.
- 16:19Switching over the what music is now.
- 16:22I feel like music a low calm lately, very compact, very even
- 16:27quiet in Dynamics, which is okay.
- 16:31There's all different types of music and there are loud.
- 16:34You took it out section style as well.
- 16:36Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:37Yeah, and I thought music has this like calm sound and very
- 16:41Club sound. And also there are anthems there
- 16:44are Arena and Stadium people, there are, you know, I'm not the
- 16:48only one doing. Arena sound or Stadium sound but
- 16:52like it is rare. And I wanted music to be loud
- 16:57again. And not necessarily like loud
- 16:59rock and roll in your Facebook like sing along.
- 17:01Like, I'm excited to go to this show because I'm going to sing
- 17:04with my friends and family like like that.
- 17:07And I felt like that was different and artists, like
- 17:11Bryan Adams. Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, they've
- 17:14always inspired me. They're catchy.
- 17:16Like they you sing along. And You're smiling.
- 17:20You're singing about you know, the way love was sung about from
- 17:24Bon Jovi Because you were born to be my baby and baby.
- 17:28I was made to be your man. Like, that's cool.
- 17:31Like now people are singing like a oh girl.
- 17:35I got this. You want it?
- 17:37And she's like, yeah. And I'm like, oh no.
- 17:40Like this is shallow and don't get me wrong.
- 17:43I use songs. Are you know, you sad?
- 17:46Are you saying that's not deep? Lenny are you saying that's not
- 17:49you know, I mean, You know, what?
- 17:51Is that singing about their life?
- 17:53Is that a deep level in? Your deepest, inner most
- 17:57Consciousness in the moment? It might but the point I'm
- 18:04saying is not to knock anything because I really do.
- 18:07Love all types of music. You could hear in my music like
- 18:10I'll even like the way I sing a solo rappy in times of do a lot
- 18:14of fast lyrics and but I felt like everything's a little
- 18:18shallow and about cloud and your staff.
- 18:21Is and I'm like, where's the honesty?
- 18:23Where's the journey? Where's after the journey when
- 18:27you make it like reminiscing about what you went through and
- 18:30actually like artists like Drake do a good job on that but I just
- 18:35feel like there was this void missing and everything was very
- 18:38I don't mean to say superficial in the bad way, but it was very
- 18:41much about what you acquired and still is and who you are and
- 18:46like your followers this and that and I want to hear what
- 18:50people are saying. Saying, you know, like why do
- 18:53you want to change the world for the better?
- 18:56Okay, you have success. I'm happy for you.
- 18:58We all could find success. That's amazing.
- 19:02But like what could we do to further the world like to
- 19:07further ourselves like in Hollywood here, especially like,
- 19:11a lot of people like to party, it drives me nuts.
- 19:14It really does no fun. No, like I don't mind having a
- 19:18good time and going out but like Will really make it a point like
- 19:22we're going to hang out today and do nothing and like know
- 19:26it's great. It's okay to like relax and rest
- 19:29but like the focus is like partying a lot.
- 19:33Like that's the mean when you go out and have a meeting, people
- 19:37want to buy you drinks to settle business and I'm like, hmm.
- 19:41How about a handshake? And we go start business and I
- 19:45know it's like tradition. I have a drink or something.
- 19:48But like I don't know. I want to bring it back to life.
- 19:51Like the music and like not to sound like cliche, but like it's
- 19:54about the music man. Like I want people to know like,
- 19:58oh, this is a great song who's singing.
- 20:01Oh, Lenny, Jay is. Oh, who produce it?
- 20:04Oh, he did. Who engineered it?
- 20:06Oh, he did. Who's playing the guitars?
- 20:08Oh, he has, who's playing the drums?
- 20:10That's actually Lenny. 20, but what about that basis?
- 20:15Well, you're going to be shocked to hear but it's Lenny Jay as
- 20:19well. Oh, wow.
- 20:20Who's In the backup vocals, I'll give you three guesses.
- 20:24Actually, I'm gonna give you two.
- 20:26And so, you know, like I want to show like all this that guitar
- 20:31right there may sitting in this spot.
- 20:34This is where all those songs are made like right here, like
- 20:38what you're hearing. Everything.
- 20:39I ate all those videos right here and like there's no this is
- 20:45the studio. Like it's my room.
- 20:47Like I have clients. I do music full-time.
- 20:51I'm I record people all around the world, I travel for it.
- 20:55They come here and all of my room, you know, I want to
- 20:59upgrade to, you know, my own Studio One day, but pursuing an
- 21:03artist life with the sound of music.
- 21:06Like I was saying the heartthrob part, now bringing in the
- 21:09background, so Never was one to really post sex appeal.
- 21:15Things wasn't posted a photo of me in this mask in a video.
- 21:21I was in for somebody. Great artist named Constance
- 21:24Antoinette. I produce the song for her
- 21:29helped her, write it. I was in the video too.
- 21:32Now listen like this jacket that had my like shirt open and like
- 21:37you could see my abs and I posted it.
- 21:40And I got hundreds of follows. Yeah, and I was like well and
- 21:46then I posted that heartthrob one, right?
- 21:50And I received about five or six hundred follows in four days and
- 21:57I was like my music video for life of a runaway, you know, I
- 22:03grew about 900 followers in a month.
- 22:06And the reason I'm keeping track of this everybody.
- 22:09I don't care if I have million. 42 million for who?
- 22:12I am. It helps me get gigs.
- 22:14The more followers. You have, the more gigs you get,
- 22:17the more things you could show up to, even in Hollywood here.
- 22:20There are clubs that make you show your followers.
- 22:23And if you don't have like 10,000, you can't get in.
- 22:26Really? Yeah, I was told about this many
- 22:29times. Blow it back up a second.
- 22:31Do you mean like general admission?
- 22:32So I just want to go to this particular e.
- 22:35Yes. I've been told about this.
- 22:36If you are lying to me that's horrible, but But I've been told
- 22:41this by multiple people that's not or maybe their exclusive
- 22:47parties and you try to show up in your like now you need
- 22:5010,000. Imagine.
- 22:51Imagine. Imagine a party.
- 22:57Let's say you got like an invite from a friend or a friend of a
- 22:59friend or maybe you just rock up to the part and you just you
- 23:02know, what know someone then the guy on the door, the person of
- 23:06the doors like I need to see how many followers you have on
- 23:09Instagram. Show me your Instagram.
- 23:11Angela. That's I got like 500 and I like
- 23:14you don't have enough viewers also follow.
- 23:17I know how I know. I don't enjoy that.
- 23:20But anyway, so I was, you know, in music projects a bunch
- 23:28throughout at the end of college.
- 23:31So when I was like, 23 2012 know, I was 22 graduating.
- 23:36I was About to graduate and I joined the music project that I
- 23:43did for a bit. We found good success, working
- 23:46hard, very similar branding, you know, I was doing the audio with
- 23:50them. So, you know similar like what I
- 23:52was doing we're just a band instead and I moved out here to
- 23:57La so we then continue but we after like five or six years.
- 24:06The our Instagram wasn't too big like we had like maybe five,
- 24:10maybe six thousand followers and we toured the country did Warped
- 24:13Tour. I was on the radio, you know all
- 24:15the whole nine yards. But then I as Lenny, Jay only
- 24:21had let's say 1200 followers after 56 years.
- 24:25That's not a huge growth. And then I was doing music full
- 24:30time. It was cool.
- 24:31You know, I'm grateful for that, you know, I do a full time now,
- 24:34but I release life of a runaway and I went from 1515 10 to 24 10
- 24:42in a month. You know, if I would have went
- 24:46to 3000, I would have doubled. The people watching me.
- 24:51When you think of it like that. It's like, wait a minute in one
- 24:56month. I just did what six years did.
- 24:59And then after that Tommy I grew even more and I'm almost at
- 25:06three thousand, you know. Now Plus in like, two, three
- 25:09months from 1500, which means I am doubling.
- 25:14My fanbase. Like that's a lot of people like
- 25:171,500 more people, you know, so the growth I keep track of it
- 25:23like that because the more people I have the bigger the
- 25:25shows, you know, the better this more fun more stadiums, we felt.
- 25:30So I keep track of it like that and again the growth leading
- 25:33back to the heart throb thing. There's a few reasons for this
- 25:38one. I've never seen such exponential
- 25:41growth if my page until I showed a few ads.
- 25:47Yeah, and I kind of didn't want to do that ever.
- 25:51I was kind of anti that because I'm I was like People only see
- 25:57you for that. And then few people told me,
- 26:01they were like, get the people in the seats.
- 26:06Yeah, they'll listen to you. Like, if they get drawn to you
- 26:10they will then listen to you. Even if they gotta look at your
- 26:13abs before. They hear what you say, you're
- 26:15going to get their attention and you got them and use it to your
- 26:21advantage. Like, you're young still.
- 26:23Like you look good. Like That's not forever, you
- 26:27know, like use it, you know, it and I was like, you know what,
- 26:32let me post that heartthrob thing and my roommate even who
- 26:36directs my videos, she directed Tommy Pickles.
- 26:39She was like one day, I was wearing the outfit, one of the
- 26:42outfits and she was like, okay, 90s heartthrob coming back, Boy,
- 26:46Meets World. And I was like, wait a minute.
- 26:50That's been missing for so long, everyone.
- 26:53So like different-looking now, it's almost like the fashion is
- 26:57to not look good. Like, they look very messy.
- 27:00A lot of people a lot, very disheveled looking and it's
- 27:04almost there, proud to be sad, and upset.
- 27:08And with all of that. I'm like, no, there's nothing
- 27:14wrong with expressing, how you feel, but they're pushing like
- 27:20pill. Usage.
- 27:21They're saying like, that's how you get better.
- 27:23Like there are songs. I hear that people are in
- 27:26saying, like, she came over. I pour the drink.
- 27:29They're like, she came over. I spilled a eight ball on the
- 27:33couch. I was like, what?
- 27:35Like, that's your singing like comfortably now and music about
- 27:41like hard drugs, and I'm like, this is uncomfortable, and there
- 27:46are people singing about it who are like 16 on the radio and 17.
- 27:50Dean and I'm just like, you know what, you know, it's like this
- 27:54is scary. Speaking to them.
- 27:56What's even crazier and this links back to what you were
- 27:59saying. About the heartthrob thing and
- 28:01sort of Innocence Lost. One big thing about you and what
- 28:05you're pushing right now with that, like when I saw that, I'll
- 28:08be honest. I didn't really see like it as a
- 28:10sexual thing. I kind of more saw it as like
- 28:15and this speaks to. So anyone go if for those
- 28:19listening to the podcast, Can't see the visuals.
- 28:22Go check out Lenny Jay on Instagram and you'll get to see
- 28:24kind of like an idea of what I'm talking about here.
- 28:27It's like imagine a guy looking really young.
- 28:30You don't look your age like, oh my God, but a guy, you know,
- 28:36living his life dancing in this in the Summer Sunshine, La.
- 28:40It's that typical vibe that you would have seen in years
- 28:44combined that Vibe still exists some extent.
- 28:47But like that used to be really prevalent in, say, in the 90s.
- 28:50Like boy bands, and stuff like that.
- 28:52Yeah, and and there was a degree.
- 28:53I don't get me wrong, boy bands, would sing about sex and stuff
- 28:56like that. But yeah, it was a lot of it was
- 28:58like, tongue-in-cheek. It was very it was and there was
- 29:00a lot more innocence and it was a lot more like girl, come over
- 29:04your house or take your hand that kind of like, you know,
- 29:07there's a lot more like that. And speaking to that within the
- 29:12space of ten years in the 2000s. They were already singing about
- 29:17some of the stuff that you're talking about.
- 29:18Now. There's like a hard It kind of
- 29:21turn to like from like I don't know how to put it like.
- 29:27Okay. I saw, I saw I mean, I swear, I
- 29:30mean that said, hey, Millennials have a you stop quoting
- 29:33SpongeBob and do cocaine already signed gen Z and I was like, and
- 29:39I had the, you know, like millions of likes and gen Z
- 29:41commenting like. Yeah, come on grow up or and I
- 29:44was like, guys, yeah, like there are artists like juice world who
- 29:53I very much enjoy, but he's singing We don't even make it to
- 29:5727. Like we don't even make it to 21
- 29:59now and like people are quoting that like, it's cool and I'm
- 30:03like, it's not cool. Like these guys aren't drugs.
- 30:06They need help. Like I'm not gonna sit here and
- 30:10say if you're on drugs, you're a loser.
- 30:12No, you people need help. I want to help people.
- 30:15That's what my brand is about. My brand, isn't to say.
- 30:18Ignore those people. It's saying like they're crying
- 30:22out for help in a way to and if it's all a know that do drugs
- 30:26and Stuff that's not good. They need people around them
- 30:29trying to help them and I'm sure those those teams are, you know,
- 30:34but then you got like these labels and stuff that are making
- 30:37like 16 and 17 year olds sing about this stuff and like, I
- 30:42don't know why it bothers me so much.
- 30:45Um, I mean this thing again like okay.
- 30:51Yeah, you mentioned SpongeBob was an example, right?
- 30:53Kids TV show but we all grew up with that.
- 30:56We're about the same age. And you know, that was something
- 30:59that what we cherished a lot of those things like whenever I
- 31:02have live streams, you know, Tick-Tock and stuff and we
- 31:06started being nostalgic. I realized like just how many
- 31:10kids TV shows and animated shows we watch back then and how they
- 31:14had a profound impact on us from every sense.
- 31:16Not just like because they were cartoons but like, culturally
- 31:21speaking. So if I will say if I can I mean
- 31:27look, you're wearing a Halo, a seizure.
- 31:28For example. Yeah, just stuff the yeah right
- 31:30there. And my last single was Tommy
- 31:32Pickles. It's called right?
- 31:34But the lyrics have nothing to do with the Rugrats.
- 31:37The point of it was because Tommy was a leader.
- 31:40There's an episode where the ball goes over the fence.
- 31:43I think it might be the first episode.
- 31:44I'm not even sure. And they're like, Tommy, no
- 31:48one's gone over the fence and he he said, well, someone has to,
- 31:52It's Gonna be Me. I got the ball and they're like,
- 31:55no, and he's like a baby's got Do a little baby's got do and
- 31:58like that mindset. To hear that young.
- 32:01I think it's a lot more powerful than we knew and then also he's
- 32:04always making sure. Everyone's okay.
- 32:06Yeah. And when you know Angelica's
- 32:10mean he'll try to figure out why and then still include her he
- 32:14includes the bully at the end. Always like he's the leader in
- 32:18the song's called Tommy Pickles because we I kind of interpreted
- 32:24it and how eyes I saw we could as well was there is this
- 32:30protagonist? And maybe he was an infant, but
- 32:35he was showing us bravery leadership, how the key people
- 32:40in order because film Lil were always butting heads Chucky was
- 32:43very nervous. Angelica was a bully.
- 32:46Susie came over now, and then, and then he got a little
- 32:49brother. He had to take care of and then
- 32:51Chucky and Kimmy because, you know, Chucky's father was a
- 32:56Father. And then even fill and Lil's mom
- 32:59was, you know, you know, the shirt she wore and she came out
- 33:04in the recent shows of reboot. She's out officially and
- 33:09everything and she's separated from Howard.
- 33:11I believe the husband's name was like, these are huge things that
- 33:16was in a show that came out in like 1991.
- 33:19And I wasn't watching in 91 because I was literally just
- 33:24being born to but like The thing about that was just so like, I
- 33:29think, maybe maybe I'm looking into it too much.
- 33:32But what I got out of it, it inspires me.
- 33:36And that's it. Pushed the like, what that songs
- 33:40about that song literally is about?
- 33:42I said, I've been out on my own, I've been miles from home, but
- 33:46it's worked itself out quite all right.
- 33:48I've been down in the streets, almost gave up on my dreams, but
- 33:51instead, I drove on straight through the night.
- 33:53You can't break my stride. And I talked about, you know.
- 33:56Although I stood a chance against the consequences of the
- 33:59actions of my own hands. But now I have a plan together.
- 34:03We could lift each other because we all deserve a chance and I
- 34:07swear that we'll all make it this could and that's to me the
- 34:11Tommy mindset and the video is about me getting to Hollywood.
- 34:15I'm excited looking around because I'm from New York City.
- 34:18I just moved here and I'm like wow, and then an agent comes up
- 34:25to me and I'm Tommy and then that was Angelica they agent.
- 34:29He was blond and he brings me a contract.
- 34:32I could make you a star, the money, the girls, the house.
- 34:35And I'm like, I don't know. And then street performers come
- 34:39up to me Phil and Lil there dressed like that and they go to
- 34:42give me money. I'm like nah, that's okay
- 34:44because it's not about that. I'm performing there smiling.
- 34:48I'm happy and then the agents like here's all this.
- 34:51I'm like nah, let me guess. Here then I see Susie on the
- 34:54street singing and she looks down because she's a street
- 34:57performer. So I join in with her and hand
- 34:59her money. Instead.
- 35:01She's happy after that. And then I find Chucky we do a
- 35:04dance together. We actually do the perfect cast
- 35:07from A Goofy Movie and you know, it's just bringing everyone up
- 35:12and lifting them and the Agents chasing me throughout this whole
- 35:15video and jelica and they catch me and we have a showdown like
- 35:19Tommy does in the playground, but he In it like a western duel
- 35:24because they're imagining it, you know on the playground and
- 35:26their imagination is great. And so we have this duel on the
- 35:30playground at the end and I destroy his contract by using a
- 35:35plastic screw driver. Like, you know, Tommy does,
- 35:38which is right here, still have it convenient.
- 35:40All my other guys. It's all around my room.
- 35:43And so, yeah, it was just a nice tip to the Rugrats, a lot of the
- 35:49scenes from them, but the songs really about being a leader.
- 35:52And you know, including everyone making sure you know, things are
- 35:58okay. And you know, you can't stop all
- 36:00the evil in the world, but you could do your part to be a
- 36:03leader and make sure everyone is included and no one's hurt and
- 36:08you don't have to pull someone down to get ahead, you know, and
- 36:11that's what a lot of agents and they you know, labels do and I'm
- 36:15not all labels are bad, not all agents are bad.
- 36:18But there there's a lot of scary things in this industry and I
- 36:22think You know that I know that we all know it and that's what
- 36:25Tommy was about and that youthful spirit is meant to keep
- 36:31you smiling and let you know. Like that's who we are and what
- 36:35really changed as we got older. Why did we stop being youthful?
- 36:40What's the difference between maturing, you know, like why did
- 36:45why does maturing mean like stop laughing and smiling and looking
- 36:50young? Why do we have to look?
- 36:52They're why do we like, we're all gonna grow old.
- 36:56I'm not saying like, you know, like we're stopping aging, but
- 37:00which would be nice. But why, why are we pushing like
- 37:04these young sixteen-year-old so labels?
- 37:07Like, why are you telling them or approving?
- 37:10Their songs about them getting drunk, like, they're 16.
- 37:14Like, how does this work? How are we in America playing
- 37:18that when it's illegal in America?
- 37:20It's a drink until you're 21. How is it legal?
- 37:22All to promote underage drinking but we're not allowed to do it.
- 37:26Like it's weird, you know, like and maybe again, I feel like I
- 37:30think too much into things and people like you're a party
- 37:32pooper, you own drink with. And I'm like, yo, listen, I was
- 37:37just have a good time. I'm seeing artists died at 20 at
- 37:4018 at 21. I don't think that's how cool
- 37:45you know. I'm upset because some of these
- 37:47artists I really like they're ours juice World passed away, Lo
- 37:51P passed away. I like their music a lot.
- 37:55And now I well they always release new music, but I'm not
- 38:00going to get new music technically from them like it's
- 38:04done. I don't get to see them ever.
- 38:07Like that's sad because there were singing about how sad they
- 38:10were and how much drugs they were on and I'm sure people are
- 38:13trying to help them but other artists are continuing that
- 38:17Trend. It is a trend right now like to
- 38:20do drugs. Like it's I don't know how it is
- 38:22by you, but in America It's very upsetting.
- 38:27You know, I see young people. They're young artists.
- 38:30I've worked with who are 15 and they would talk to me about, you
- 38:36know, when they're not recording about.
- 38:38I broke up with this person. We were doing drugs together, or
- 38:42like, we were so drunk and I'm like, wait, wait.
- 38:46Mmm, you're 14. You just turned 15.
- 38:48I know, you know, depends who you are like when you experience
- 38:53those things, you know. No, life is different for
- 38:55everyone, but they were like, so proud of it and saying it in
- 39:01front of their parents. The parents were not like
- 39:04reprimanding them and in my head I'm like you have a
- 39:08fifteen-year-old here saying they're smoking a lot of weed
- 39:12and that's why their voice is hoarse right now.
- 39:14And you're paying for this recording session and you're 14
- 39:1815, year-old daughter. Telling you about all the weed.
- 39:23She smoked. With their friends and how much
- 39:25more she smoking and all these drinks.
- 39:27She's drinking and you're just okay with it.
- 39:32If I ever did that, when I was 14 or 15, my parents were like,
- 39:36yeah, you want a drink, you're gonna work out the pub.
- 39:39Now you're gonna you know, like you're gonna you want to do
- 39:42this? Watch what you're getting
- 39:44yourself into and like that's a confusing like not.
- 39:49I mean the thing confusing is Why weren't the parents?
- 39:54Like you shouldn't be doing that?
- 39:58They literally were okay with it.
- 40:03And to me there's a lack of like responsibility in that and also
- 40:11you as an artist to your singing other people to other people,
- 40:15your age, and your like these people are like promoting this
- 40:19behavior and I don't want to sound like like a old-school
- 40:24parent. Like don't go out, don't do
- 40:25this. Don't vomit.
- 40:27This is a fifteen-year-old telling you, they're doing drugs
- 40:30and getting drunk. Unk and they're going the
- 40:33multiple guy's house. Like they're talking about this
- 40:36to you. Should your 14-year
- 40:39fifteen-year-old be doing that all the time.
- 40:41Like getting picked up by like 18 year.
- 40:43Olds seniors in high school, like isn't there a lot?
- 40:47Not adding up here but it's being allowed and that's not
- 40:51okay. There's a lot of things in the
- 40:52industry not just drugs, but people being Predators like you
- 40:57shouldn't let your 15 year old. Go out with an 18 year old.
- 41:01That like, you know, everyone circumstance is different, there
- 41:06might be reasons for things. I'm not condemning everyone who
- 41:11does these things. We all are human.
- 41:13We are all flawed things happen. Our environments are different,
- 41:17but there's a lot of people getting hurt right now and I
- 41:21want to help relieve that a bit or less in it because we can
- 41:27lift each other. It doesn't have to be a doom
- 41:30store. Sorry, that's what a lot of the
- 41:32brands are now, like we are sad, we are broken and maybe we are,
- 41:39but it doesn't mean you have to make other people broken.
- 41:44And again, we can express ourselves and say that.
- 41:47Like, we can express these things.
- 41:49We all have a right to speak up about our lives, but I want to
- 41:55help people. I want others to be more helpful
- 41:59and not just consume. Music from these people like
- 42:01yeah, we're gonna party them like they do.
- 42:05How about like wow, they went through a lot.
- 42:07I know friends going through this.
- 42:09Let's help each other and that's what I want to see more.
- 42:17Have you met any other artists or other artists particular,
- 42:22autistic spy, you that are sort of trying to do the same thing.
- 42:26Like where does this emanate from as far as inspiration?
- 42:29And I feel a little lonely with this and I deemed you about it
- 42:35recently and I was like, I feel like it's hard to find others
- 42:42who end people who hear about my brand and what I do, they're
- 42:46like, yes. Like this, I don't hear this.
- 42:49This is needed. You're onto something.
- 42:52Just don't stop what you're doing.
- 42:53Like what you're saying? Just keep doing.
- 42:55Like it's different. It's working.
- 42:58I don't see a lot of people being like positive like that or
- 43:03if they are positive. It's like you know, like, Or
- 43:09like Panic at the Disco. Hey Ma.
- 43:10Look, I made it great, love that song.
- 43:14Great message. One of the few songs.
- 43:16I heard like, hey Ma. Look, I made it at school.
- 43:18Like I was like, wow, that's super inspiring.
- 43:21Like and I was like, one of the few that I heard or know not
- 43:27every song is about Doom, you know, but the whole together we
- 43:32could lift each other. Like I say, I think it is hard
- 43:35to find. I don't know if I found many
- 43:38like People like that. Like in the 80s there were like,
- 43:44but even they were parting a bit much in the 80s, but there's
- 43:49nothing wrong with partying. I like going to parties.
- 43:51I do enjoy them. I go them.
- 43:53I enjoy going to clubs and stuff.
- 43:55I'm just not, you know doing a bunch of hard drugs in the
- 43:59bathroom. And I think that's okay.
- 44:02It's a big fat. I mean, obviously, and it is.
- 44:03Okay. Yeah, and over the decades.
- 44:07Here's the interesting thing. I've noticed right, over the
- 44:10decades, you hear the stories but 60s, 70s, 80s 90s, Etc.
- 44:14And also you look at the music was created in that time.
- 44:16What they were talking about. You're always gonna get people
- 44:19talking about the darker stuff and and everything, right?
- 44:22But the overall Vibe the overall positivity of those earlier
- 44:28decades. It's like night and day when you
- 44:32compare it to now and obviously you can you can track the kind
- 44:35of the change over the course of the decades and what was going
- 44:38on at the time and stuff like that is obviously a big factor
- 44:42as well. But I think something that's
- 44:44really interesting particularly with our generation growing up
- 44:48versus young teenagers. Now is that, you know, there
- 44:52was, as we spoke about earlier a lot more sort of Innocence with
- 44:59our Upbringing versus. There's like, we're trying to
- 45:05grow up fast for some. Yeah, there's no.
- 45:07We always were. But like now, I feel like, it's
- 45:10like, rocketed by like 15. They're like, I'm ready to get
- 45:14married and have kids. So I think if you recall, right,
- 45:17obviously, we were both born in the 90s.
- 45:19Mmm, internet was around in the ninth.
- 45:22Like not like how it is now, but like I didn't stop using the
- 45:27internet in a proper. Sense until I was like 11 12
- 45:33years old, am right. So there's this whole
- 45:36upbringing, we had of like for example, going out and playing
- 45:41in the Summers with other kids like riding.
- 45:44Oh, right until High School. Hey just there.
- 45:48I didn't have Facebook until I was a junior in high school.
- 45:51All right, when it was coming in.
- 45:53There was my space but like, you know, the internet was instant
- 45:58messenger. Hey, what time you want to go
- 46:01bike ride? Yeah, probably had.
- 46:03Yeah, we didn't have access to all these music videos and such
- 46:09young people have access to such a dolt things.
- 46:13Now. This is what I mean is
- 46:14successively. It's that's what no hiding it.
- 46:18That's and that's kind of Where the problem starts like.
- 46:22When I, when I look at my younger brothers, I've got four
- 46:25younger brothers, and they range from like 9:44, I think.
- 46:32And I remember when, you know, they were like, 45 years old
- 46:37already playing with iPads already understanding older
- 46:41Concepts than they should know about, and it's like, I'm
- 46:45thinking, like, when I was five, I was just kicking a football
- 46:48around in the backyard like that.
- 46:50I don't know. But yeah, it's like, it's scary
- 46:53and I want people to watch my video and be like, maybe I
- 46:56should go. Yeah, football.
- 46:58Yeah, like that's what I want. Like, and it's, my music isn't
- 47:03to be immature. Clearly.
- 47:05I'm an adult. You know, I'm working hard, but
- 47:11I want that Innocents to come back.
- 47:13What? You know, I even feel like when
- 47:15people go out, they think like, okay, I got plans tonight.
- 47:19I'll be back by Twelve because I gotta be up tomorrow.
- 47:22Like what happened to us, just excited for the night.
- 47:26Like and you didn't question. What was the second stop of the
- 47:30night? I have to do this.
- 47:31You're like I'm going to meet my friends here and then the night
- 47:34just went now. I feel like every time I go.
- 47:36Okay. It's like I have a podcast
- 47:39tomorrow morning. So I gotta be back here.
- 47:42Like, you know, I know our bodies just don't run 24/7, but
- 47:49I don't know. I feel like Like we have this
- 47:52mindset like we need to act a certain way or do a certain
- 47:55thing and there's a difference between being youthful and being
- 47:58immature, you know, like there's a huge difference.
- 48:04You gotta be responsible still you gotta be on top of your
- 48:07stuff. I'm not here playing dress up as
- 48:09Tommy Pickles and then I'm like, I'm going to play in the sandbox
- 48:12now, I'm not going to pay my bills.
- 48:14Yeah, like it's not that the point of my music is to like
- 48:19Laughs smile, I come on. Like I know life is tough.
- 48:24I know a lot of things are going on in the world.
- 48:26I know there are people hurting but how about, you know, when we
- 48:30come together at my shows were smiling for an hour like you
- 48:35could go out and help other people a big part of my brand.
- 48:39I'm going to start posting this. I've been I kind of make all my
- 48:44footage and then back it up, like have a backlog of its I'm
- 48:49ahead of my releases because that makes it easier.
- 48:53So I have a bunch of videos made and this ties to, I was
- 48:57listening to your volunteer, uh, pisode specifically, and I have
- 49:02some notes along weekend. And so first, I've never had a
- 49:06guest. Have notes on me.
- 49:10Well, they're not doing their homework.
- 49:11And so I volunteered to I like to donate things I do.
- 49:18Donate a lot of random clothes I have because some of them don't
- 49:22fit. I don't wear them anymore.
- 49:23We all have shirts in our closet that we go by and were like, I'm
- 49:27not gonna throw that out because I'm gonna wear that and like
- 49:30four years goes by and you're like, yeah, I will wear that I'm
- 49:33not gonna wear like you're not. So I've started making the
- 49:36commitment of like when I especially moved to LA.
- 49:40I was like, I got to clear out my stuff.
- 49:42I can bring everything. I was like, you know what?
- 49:44I'm getting rid of all my clothes.
- 49:46I want to be new I like Rid of everything, but I donated it and
- 49:52I've been making real slightly like, hey, what's up found?
- 49:56This extra shirt and my closet. Someone gave it to me recently.
- 50:00And it's too big. So it's going to cost me nothing
- 50:04to go down the block and drop this in the drop-off for
- 50:07clothes, and I feel myself going to do it.
- 50:10And I say, you know, volunteering isn't about filming
- 50:13yourself to show. You do it, but I'm showing you
- 50:15like, look how easy this was now.
- 50:18Someone's Going to have a shirt because of me.
- 50:21And all I did was reach over. Grab it and drove down.
- 50:25The block. One minute is have to corner
- 50:27right over here. Like, how hard is it?
- 50:30If half my followers, did that once a month?
- 50:34Or let's say, I grew to a point when I do when I grow through
- 50:38millions of followers, right? Say there's 20 million people
- 50:43following me this, half of them, only one time, donated like a
- 50:48cow. And the food that's 10 million
- 50:51cans of food little, you know, like that will feed.
- 50:56Wow, the Vivo. It's that simple.
- 50:58I think you know and you touch on a really good.
- 51:02I just want to throw something in the real quick.
- 51:05Just on this particular topic. This is a really important point
- 51:08when you see celebrities, you know with like loads of what
- 51:12will neither. When they do these kind of these
- 51:15drives, you know, getting their followers to donate whatever I
- 51:19know. I used to think this to like,
- 51:21I'm not whole. Why don't you just make a big
- 51:22donation? You got all the money bubble
- 51:24blah, but then I Thinking about it and thinking about what we're
- 51:27talking about now. Yeah, you can make those big
- 51:30donations and make those big gestures and everything, and
- 51:33that's important. But the biggest thing is being
- 51:37able to get your followers to, to act and, and show them.
- 51:42And, and, and lead, by example, you know, like, as in like, hey,
- 51:47I'm doing this thing. You can do this thing to look at
- 51:51this. Look how many people we help
- 51:52and, and make it like, part of Part of Life, part of just no
- 51:57Manatee and like affect people's behavior in a big way.
- 52:02And I think that speaks to what you're saying is to, it's like
- 52:08This should be the focus. I mean, certainly when I was
- 52:11volunteering that was a big thing on my mind is at first.
- 52:14It was like, I want to do this thing because I've never been
- 52:16able to do this before and I want to help people and then it
- 52:19just became part of life. And the only reason I stopped
- 52:22doing it and I plan to resume doing it in some shape or form
- 52:26again in the future. The only reason I stopped is
- 52:29because I needed more time to focus on everything that I'm
- 52:32doing now, and I know so I got a job as I was unemployed, so, I
- 52:37figured well, I'm not going to sit around doing nothing.
- 52:39I'm gonna look for jobs, volunteer and do all this other
- 52:43stuff. I'm doing right?
- 52:46And then obviously life changes, but there's always ways you can
- 52:48help. And like you say even something
- 52:51as small as that just donating a few things here.
- 52:53Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
- 52:55And I like that about your episode 2 and the people you
- 52:59interview of, like, all walks of life, doing things.
- 53:02It's just about life. It's not very like, You know,
- 53:06you are a musical artists. Like we spoke not very much
- 53:10about my music. We touched it here.
- 53:11Now, we're talking about life and positivity because that's
- 53:14music is really a soundtrack to everything, you know, and it's a
- 53:18huge part of our Lives. I think it's one of the most
- 53:21important things in our lives because it does make a sound
- 53:23track for our life. And you know, we hear music or
- 53:26like that reminds me of high school that reminds me of being
- 53:28a little kid that reminds me of you know weddings, you know,
- 53:32there's all different types of music, but I don't know.
- 53:37I feel like the in your volunteer episode.
- 53:41Like, why do people make those songs?
- 53:44You talked about like everyone has their reasons to volunteer
- 53:47and I like that and that's something I want to touch on.
- 53:51Like, you know, my reason is because I have a brother with
- 53:56autism and I do everything for him.
- 54:00I have two brothers and but the one I felt at an early age, you
- 54:04know, I felt this responsibility.
- 54:07For him. And I think that really made me
- 54:10grow up fast because I was thinking I got to take care of
- 54:15them when I'm older. So I felt you know, like I was 5
- 54:18years old. Okay, I got to take care of my
- 54:20wow, younger brother. You know, like I'm 7 years old.
- 54:24I'm at, you know, the Christmas fair at school, but I'm like,
- 54:27okay, I gotta watch my brother. Like I was thinking that as a
- 54:31little kid, you know, and I need to do well in school because
- 54:36when I get older, I got it. Take care of my brother like and
- 54:39my airport when when I you know, make music, my brother loves my
- 54:46music. I'm glad I don't just make music
- 54:49because he needs to like it. I am glad he likes it.
- 54:53I make music because I want to be able to not only fund my
- 54:57life, but I won't be able to take care of him to if anything.
- 55:00Unfortunately, ever happened to my parents or anything.
- 55:05He'll be my response. Only like he is now and you
- 55:09know, so that's like you said everyone has her reasons to
- 55:12volunteer and like that's, you know, my reason and I thought it
- 55:16was cool. You touched upon that because
- 55:17everyone does have a story and they don't get to tell it and I
- 55:21want my music. I want to be a voice for those
- 55:24that can't speak up. Not everyone could speak up like
- 55:26us, not everyone could afford the microphone like you and I
- 55:29have or understand how make a podcast or put out a song to
- 55:33express these things and someone needs to for them.
- 55:36They Do they? They don't know, they even do
- 55:39sometimes until you're like. Wow, someone else is thinking
- 55:42that a lot of times we feel alone and then all it takes is
- 55:46one artist you here and you're like, I'm not alone.
- 55:48There's a good chance. Someone went through the same
- 55:50thing. You did or a very close version
- 55:53of even if the scenarios insane and life, traumatizing some
- 55:59crazy things happen in this world like you.
- 56:01And I know, you know, I hope my lyrics are, you know, relate to
- 56:06people. And that's why you also said
- 56:08like you need to have conversations with people and my
- 56:13lyrics are very conversational. It's me just kind of like
- 56:16speaking my mind to you listening and to myself my first
- 56:19single life of a Runway was about me speaking to myself
- 56:23giving me lessons. I wish I was told ahead of time.
- 56:26You know, like when you think you're in the clear, the rain
- 56:29will start pouring, you know, take your time, embrace the
- 56:32false and keep your chin up high.
- 56:34You automatically will fail. If you never even try you know,
- 56:37it's just I wish people told me that earlier.
- 56:40I had a like I didn't have like an older brother.
- 56:44My dad was parenting me and saying go after your dreams, but
- 56:48it was very apparent. Like it didn't feel like, you
- 56:52know, a musical artist saying it, you know, it came off as
- 56:56parental which is okay. It was great.
- 56:59But then another thing you said and my bed for like kind of
- 57:02rushing I realized I don't have my computer charger and I'm at
- 57:0635 Percent. Oh, wow.
- 57:08Okay. It's okay.
- 57:09We're at 35 percent. It's we got time.
- 57:12But anyway, you said if you look into someone's eyes, you'll see
- 57:18a human being and it's true. Everyone is just a human being
- 57:22and I feel like my music. If they're very stoic in the
- 57:27face. I feel like my music will break
- 57:30them and I want them to feel like that positivity from my
- 57:34music and Even people who meet like my brother.
- 57:39I feel like they could be the toughest person or they could be
- 57:41like, the worst criminal in the world.
- 57:44They'll have a change of heart after they meet him.
- 57:47And that's kind of what I want to resonate through my music.
- 57:51I wanted to that light shine through on people, you know, so
- 57:57I really appreciated that in your episode.
- 57:59I like that and you said that to you.
- 58:03So we need good people. Like, what is good?
- 58:06What is bad? That's very, you know, you could
- 58:10go on a conversation. What is this?
- 58:12What's that? Don't?
- 58:15I don't want other people to be hurt when you try to move
- 58:17forward in life. You don't have to rip someone
- 58:19off to get a good deal. You don't.
- 58:22There's so much money in this world, you know, there's so much
- 58:25food and you said to just hug someone.
- 58:30And I like that, too, because my brother Ryan sometimes when he's
- 58:34upset he'll like know. Upset just hugs please.
- 58:39And I'm like that made me think of that and he's done that since
- 58:42he was a little kid. And like, everyone loves a good
- 58:45hug. And even some people even cry
- 58:47when you hug them because yeah, seven almost feel worse, but
- 58:51better at the same time, you know, and I don't know.
- 58:54I really like that too. And there are good people out
- 58:58there and my dad was saying that recently, when I was messaging
- 59:01you, when I was feeling a bit down, I was just like, man, like
- 59:06am I? Saying this stuff and looking
- 59:08like an idiot. Am I like being all happy?
- 59:11And like I look dumb like are people, like, yo, this isn't
- 59:14life like, Get over yourself. But my dad and you were saying
- 59:19you're like, just keep doing it. Like it's different.
- 59:22Like this is missing. Like it really is.
- 59:26And like, a lot of people are telling me like, I'm onto
- 59:29something. And I believe I am.
- 59:31And I like to say, I know I am, I'm confident in what I do.
- 59:35I believe in myself. Has everyone should I'm my
- 59:38biggest fan, you know, you need to be, you know, and again
- 59:43there's a difference between being confident and believe in
- 59:46yourself and being arrogant just like there's a difference
- 59:49between being youthful and immature, you know, and I don't
- 59:54know, there are good people out there.
- 59:56There. It seems like there are very few
- 59:59of them. But they're out there.
- 1:00:01I love what you talked about and how you're very positive in your
- 1:00:04stories that you post. Which is very ironic because you
- 1:00:08post a lot of villain acting things.
- 1:00:12I think it's great. But but no, it's funny when I'm
- 1:00:16not working on my music. I'm working on like death metal
- 1:00:18for people. Hey, yeah, I'm working like that
- 1:00:22heaviest screaming music, but I sound like we could lift each
- 1:00:26other because we all deserve a chance and I go in the studio on
- 1:00:29people. Like I make sense that there's a
- 1:00:32lot more demand for production with regards those genres.
- 1:00:36You're gonna get more work. Work that way.
- 1:00:37Anyway my sense and hey for how happy I am, there.
- 1:00:40Is that other side that doesn't feel down to.
- 1:00:42And maybe that's my way of expressing it.
- 1:00:44You know, like I've loved the energy in that music.
- 1:00:48It's crazy Direction, Taylor Swift.
- 1:00:51And then why how did it go? Literally?
- 1:00:54Can I check my remember, Whitechapel?
- 1:00:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:57Yeah. If like, have you bands like
- 1:01:08that and cool, you know? Very different than my music,
- 1:01:12but I like it and maybe that's what balances me.
- 1:01:14And makes me do my kind of music.
- 1:01:17I've been in heavy bands and stuff.
- 1:01:20But where I am now, I feel like I'm making the exact music
- 1:01:23that's always been in my head. When I first started guitar,
- 1:01:27which was actually kind of late in life.
- 1:01:28I was like 17 when I started guitar 16 or 17 and then, yeah,
- 1:01:35I got right into Wanting the play shows and start a band.
- 1:01:39And I was like hooked. And I knew I was like a
- 1:01:41songwriter instead of like a guitarist because I was like, oh
- 1:01:46I could get one note at a time. And if I just go dun, dun, dun
- 1:01:49dun, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dun dun.
- 1:01:53That's enough, you'd sing dddddd.
- 1:02:07And it's catchy and like people always would point out that
- 1:02:10like, it's really catchy. Like how did you write that?
- 1:02:12Like, yeah, it's sing this. I was like, hmm.
- 1:02:16I write caching music, you know, like I do I know this I do and
- 1:02:19so I I feel like I went as a guitarist to write for other
- 1:02:25people and I was like, I'll be in the band.
- 1:02:27I'm the guitarist and I rode a lot of things and projects that
- 1:02:30would said, then I realized it wasn't being said how I wanted
- 1:02:34and it kind of turned into Two. What everyone was writing about
- 1:02:40like heartbreak? And yeah, like I have songs
- 1:02:45about heartbreak, but they're going to be a little different
- 1:02:48when they come out. Like I have a song coming out
- 1:02:50called better off dead very different than my friend.
- 1:02:55Right? But the lyrics are I'm better
- 1:02:58off dead. A bullet to my head.
- 1:03:01Just a couple things that you said back then, like the words.
- 1:03:06They said to me felt like That you were my best friend, a
- 1:03:09stranger in the end. We're better off dead.
- 1:03:12Yeah, we're better off dead. It's not about killing yourself.
- 1:03:17It's but it's extreme. You know, I really care.
- 1:03:21Get attention. Yeah, you like, I'm better off
- 1:03:24dead. A bullet in my head.
- 1:03:27Just a couple things that you said back.
- 1:03:29Then you were my best friend, a stranger in the end.
- 1:03:32We're better off dead. Yeah, we're better off dead.
- 1:03:35And then I say we're better off dead.
- 1:03:38Was it something that I said, poor that my heart and you left
- 1:03:41me on read either way. I can't pretend you changed me
- 1:03:45for the better. Even though I lost a friend,
- 1:03:48there's something I want to ask you about real quick.
- 1:03:50Very like different to talk about a relationship.
- 1:03:54Like I say like and it's not even specifically about a girl,
- 1:03:58it's about other projects. I was into friends.
- 1:04:02I talked about losing best friends and stuff through music.
- 1:04:05And love is given to all types of people.
- 1:04:08It doesn't have to be just your boyfriend a girlfriend.
- 1:04:11You know, you love your family, you love your friends, too.
- 1:04:14You have to love yourself. Elf, most importantly and you
- 1:04:17know that that's where like my songs come from there.
- 1:04:20Very Like realize what the lessons?
- 1:04:24You're learning like, just because something's better off
- 1:04:26dead. Maybe it is better off dead.
- 1:04:30You know, like rather than you then just I didn't say I'm gonna
- 1:04:33put a bullet in my head, like it's about the words.
- 1:04:35You said, felt like that. And then I realized, you know
- 1:04:38what, maybe you're right me and like, you learn from it and you
- 1:04:43could go forward from it. So, I do have songs that are
- 1:04:46deep and stuff, but always try to cite, you know, like you
- 1:04:50changed me. or the better even though I lost a friend, like
- 1:04:54Like, I haven't heard that breakup song that like kind of
- 1:04:57thanks the person, you know, like but anyway, you're about to
- 1:05:01say something. I'm sorry.
- 1:05:02Yeah. No.
- 1:05:02No, I wanted you to finish this because it's interesting here in
- 1:05:07that. Would that would have been one
- 1:05:08of the questions I would have asked.
- 1:05:09Anyways, about your lyrical themes, which I think are
- 1:05:12interesting, is, yeah, you have a unique approach to these
- 1:05:16different things and also with regards to your positivity,
- 1:05:21which we've spoken about already, but one thing I really,
- 1:05:24Ask you about mostly because it's something I suffer with
- 1:05:28work as well. But you seem to be conquering it
- 1:05:32in a better way is having this like self belief that, you know,
- 1:05:37you're going to make it. I, I just seen people I've known
- 1:05:43now, who were at a nobody level even leagues before where I am
- 1:05:50now, and even you have your own show you're running it.
- 1:05:53You have a microphone. Phone your setup.
- 1:05:55You got headphones on people never get to that stage like you
- 1:06:00already did it. This is the thing.
- 1:06:02This is the thing. This stage is not is easier than
- 1:06:05you. Think it is this microphone.
- 1:06:07I'm not as expensive as you think, is the said, folks not,
- 1:06:10but people think it is. And it shows how tough the world
- 1:06:13is because I see music people comment like man, I can't afford
- 1:06:17that program and I'm like, it's $23, you're going out.
- 1:06:21Oh, I guess I get, I get that now.
- 1:06:22Well, let that That's it. That's different though.
- 1:06:26That shows that's a lack of awareness.
- 1:06:30Yes, and some of self-belief though.
- 1:06:33I've seen people who are in the beginning stages of things go
- 1:06:38from that to Star them. Hmm.
- 1:06:41Like I've seen people become like to the level.
- 1:06:47That's it. Like they did it like they're
- 1:06:49set now that's their life and the fact that I've seen it
- 1:06:53happen. I'm like I've witnessed it from
- 1:06:56people. I know it's not just a story.
- 1:06:59Now. I've seen it.
- 1:07:00It's real like it is. And even myself my ban when I,
- 1:07:05well, my old prod less project. I was in, we were working hard
- 1:07:10hustling, like to get radio play the set, and it worked.
- 1:07:13And we made major. We got top 40 radio, like
- 1:07:16they're playing us after Shawn Mendes and cardi B.
- 1:07:19Like, and we didn't have a label.
- 1:07:21We have manager. We had nothing.
- 1:07:23I was just straight Hustle. I saw it's doable and then I
- 1:07:26started playing shows with Nick Jonas, Meghan, Trainor, all even
- 1:07:30Shawn Mendes dnce, whoever I came and think anymore, like all
- 1:07:36these people and I got on those stages myself.
- 1:07:40What with, you know, the group I was in but we did it ourselves
- 1:07:45and I've been in the big radio stations.
- 1:07:48I've always wanted to be on like I've met the people I wanted to
- 1:07:51meet. I've worked with people, I've
- 1:07:53listened to my whole life now. Now, right from my room and now
- 1:07:56I moved to LA just from music. I do it.
- 1:07:58Full-time music. I pay my bills.
- 1:08:00Full-time from music. I couldn't do that a few years
- 1:08:04ago. I did it and now I'm just like,
- 1:08:08keep it going. I always wanted to reach the
- 1:08:10highest level. You could like, when you say,
- 1:08:13Lenny Jay. I want you to think of Michael
- 1:08:16Jackson and Prince and Taylor, Swift and Drake.
- 1:08:20And you see the trend here, like icons, like, Major impacts on
- 1:08:26music, you know, that's where I'm trying to go with it.
- 1:08:30You have, you know, Taylor now, Billy eilish Harry Styles
- 1:08:33Bieber, Lenny. Jay.
- 1:08:35I'm going for that level of impact on culture.
- 1:08:39Like I want to do that. I believe in myself that I could
- 1:08:44do it because I've met these people that I've named, I've
- 1:08:48been around them. They are just like us, they're
- 1:08:52not different. The only Only thing different
- 1:08:55about them. They're popular.
- 1:08:57They are talented. I like all these cars.
- 1:09:00I love them. I listen, tell us Swift and
- 1:09:01Bieber every day. But the point I'm making is they
- 1:09:05are regular people. We all are people regular as in.
- 1:09:10They sleep. They eat, they breathe.
- 1:09:14I believe it. When I see it.
- 1:09:17I know I didn't see them drinking water.
- 1:09:19So they might be robots. But no, but the point I'm trying
- 1:09:23to make is Like I've seen them, I've been around them and the
- 1:09:28conversations we have are like this and they say like I want
- 1:09:32this for the world. I want to be better and I'm like
- 1:09:38They are out there may be, you know, and like I and meeting
- 1:09:41some big people that were super evil.
- 1:09:44Woke me up. I've met people, I listen to my
- 1:09:48whole life that are now enemies of me.
- 1:09:52And, you know, and that's pretty disheartening, but then I met
- 1:09:55with the doll. Did that happen for personal
- 1:09:58reasons, or was that just that you realize they're bad people?
- 1:10:00And you were just like, okay. I don't mean to call them bad
- 1:10:03people, their priorities, the way, they acted things say,
- 1:10:07Right. Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 1:10:09Like, seriously the greatest right, you know, and they just
- 1:10:14continue to live that way and they know and they talk about it
- 1:10:17very like, yeah, it's who I am. I am screwed up.
- 1:10:20I am in F up. I am a loser and that's what the
- 1:10:23world will look like. They say that to me.
- 1:10:25And I'm like, why are you saying that they're?
- 1:10:28Like, all I am is a drug addict. I'm gonna die and I'm like, no,
- 1:10:32you're better than that. And they're like, no.
- 1:10:35Like, and sometimes people say to me.
- 1:10:37They're like, they get angry at me.
- 1:10:39Like, why are you so positive be upset for a day?
- 1:10:43Be annoyed? It's not going to go well and
- 1:10:45I'm like, yeah, there are times where that will happen.
- 1:10:47But right now, you're going through something and I want to
- 1:10:50help you get through it. The best as possible.
- 1:10:52Stop accepting like, defeat, unless it's like death.
- 1:10:56There's nothing. Nothing else.
- 1:10:57Stop you, you know, like someone a close friend of mine told me
- 1:11:01that thing. She said if there's she's an
- 1:11:05engineer, she said if there's a problem And you could fix it.
- 1:11:10Why are you upset? And if there's a problem and you
- 1:11:13can't fix it. Why are you upset?
- 1:11:16Yeah, and I was like, You know, that in the bed thought, ya
- 1:11:23know, like and of course we have emotions were gonna react to
- 1:11:26things but how we handle emotions and how we react really
- 1:11:30defines us. As people often think strength
- 1:11:33is not about how powerful you are, but it's how well you could
- 1:11:36adapt to whatever situation or environment you're in, and
- 1:11:39that's what true survival is, and I think that You know brings
- 1:11:45together what my music is about the walks of life you interview.
- 1:11:49It's all about how we receive the world to us and how we react
- 1:11:54to it. I'm seeing the world in a lot of
- 1:11:57music. I see very sad.
- 1:11:59Mm. Maybe that's the music that I'm
- 1:12:01drawn to for some reason and that's making my music super
- 1:12:04positive. I don't know.
- 1:12:06I really can't answer it. But neither is just lost sad
- 1:12:09music out there and I really like being positive.
- 1:12:13It's fun. I've been sad.
- 1:12:15I've been depressed. I still deal with depression at
- 1:12:18times, but you gotta, you know, every day is here and
- 1:12:25fortunately every day is here for me, you know, and not
- 1:12:29everyone could say that whether you know, they're suffer mental
- 1:12:33illness and they suffer the suicide or they get sick, you
- 1:12:37know, life is Very fragile. And I've seen a lot of family
- 1:12:43members passed away. When I was young.
- 1:12:45I've become almost like numb to people, passing away.
- 1:12:50I often make very dark humor jokes about death.
- 1:12:53I have such dark humor, and I think it's how I cope with dark
- 1:12:58things. But I just feel like we need to
- 1:13:03stop isolating ourselves and thinking, we are alone and we
- 1:13:07are these lost. Causes that are alone, even if a
- 1:13:11bunch of lost causes get together in the same room, they
- 1:13:14could realize they're not alone. And I feel like a lot of people
- 1:13:17come together and they want misery loves company, you know,
- 1:13:21and I'm not saying this is the whole world.
- 1:13:23I'm not trying to be like, I'm the only happy person world, but
- 1:13:26you're telling me 9 out of 10 songs aren't strong more.
- 1:13:31So about it's easier to be sad than happy so overseas and
- 1:13:37that's just like the angle. I'm coming out with Everything.
- 1:13:40I think it's great to interview these positive people in life.
- 1:13:43And those who are going through things.
- 1:13:45We need to hear about that stuff too, you know, because they you
- 1:13:50know yin and yang every L everything has an opposite equal
- 1:13:54and opposite reaction, you know, and it's time bring some light
- 1:13:58to the world. I want to bring some Smiles.
- 1:14:00I want to make people happy. I want them to look in my eyes
- 1:14:04and know that I'm looking at that person.
- 1:14:07You said, you'll see like you said, In that episode you said
- 1:14:10you just look in their eyes. Like there is a person in there
- 1:14:12somewhere, even if they look numb, like they were a person
- 1:14:16and you can crack it. And there are unfortunately
- 1:14:20times I do think some people are too far gone.
- 1:14:23And I don't know that's almost like it makes me want to work
- 1:14:30harder to like be like, there's no such thing.
- 1:14:32You can make a difference like you could do anything you
- 1:14:36believe in. I really do.
- 1:14:37And that's what I want. What my music will do.
- 1:14:40That's what my message is. I want to be that voice for
- 1:14:44people that can speak up or don't have the ability to.
- 1:14:48I want to be a voice for the defenseless and defend the
- 1:14:50defenseless. I want to be that person.
- 1:14:53I wish I had when I didn't have someone and that is the brand of
- 1:14:58Lenny Jay and it's just to be honest and like put it right out
- 1:15:02there for you. I don't want to censor things
- 1:15:04and I'm not trying to give you a false sense of like, My world's
- 1:15:09all happy all the time. Like no.
- 1:15:11I've only released two songs, you know, like there's a lot to
- 1:15:15talk about. It's going to be very positive,
- 1:15:17very colorful. That's my thing.
- 1:15:20You know, my next single coming out.
- 1:15:22It's gonna be really cool. It's an Anthem for all those
- 1:15:26working hard, chasing something, and that you're recognizing.
- 1:15:31What's up, its me? That's me.
- 1:15:33Yeah, I say this one's for the overwhelmed and the
- 1:15:38underappreciated overworked another night, keeping you
- 1:15:41waiting. Because, you know, you're always
- 1:15:43working late and people are waiting on you.
- 1:15:45And I say, life is more than just 925 regrets looking back.
- 1:15:49Wondering. What if I tried?
- 1:15:51So for the overwhelmed and the underappreciated, that's what
- 1:15:55the next song is about. And, you know, everyone's
- 1:15:58working hard and I didn't touch upon not yet.
- 1:16:01I want to talk about, not just I'm on a journey.
- 1:16:04I'm being an artist in La Tommy Pickles, life of a runaway.
- 1:16:08I needed to be a better person and take that first step.
- 1:16:12And now Tommy is about after taking that first step on the
- 1:16:16journey. I'm not giving up and I didn't.
- 1:16:18And now the next song is about. I know you guys are putting one
- 1:16:23foot in front of the other two and like I've been there and I'm
- 1:16:26still doing it. I've witnessed my dad work hard
- 1:16:29and that's what the songs. Out.
- 1:16:31Actually, what I viewed like it's almost like a POV of him
- 1:16:36working in singing the song but it's me telling it how I
- 1:16:41imagined. It was in his head how it came
- 1:16:43off his working all the time when I was younger and my mom
- 1:16:47was home with my other brothers and watching us.
- 1:16:50I am so songs about that and you know, there are a lot of
- 1:16:55working-class people in this world, you know, and it relates
- 1:16:59to Everyone working hard back, break people, who are calloused,
- 1:17:04you know, heartbreak. It's literally just about
- 1:17:08everyone grinding and I feel like we all have that working
- 1:17:12class Anthem. I want to, you know, bring that
- 1:17:16to the table for people. I want them to know their work
- 1:17:20isn't underappreciated. So many people work so hard.
- 1:17:23They don't get a pat on the back because they're just getting by
- 1:17:26helping their families and stuff.
- 1:17:28And the families are thankful. But like A lot of people aren't
- 1:17:32ever, like really, like, you're like, keeping us alive.
- 1:17:36Like I want this song for them when they're driving to like
- 1:17:40hear it while they're stuck in traffic and be like, I'm
- 1:17:44recognized, you know, and that's what I say in the song.
- 1:17:47I say another long drive east side traffic backed up on my way
- 1:17:51home. My radio car stereo plays a song
- 1:17:54and now I don't feel so alone. Well, you know, that's what the
- 1:17:58songs about like, you know, you are not alone and I hope my
- 1:18:01songs the song on the radio that comes on and they're in traffic
- 1:18:05and my dad would always tell me I'd be in traffic coming home.
- 1:18:08And there was a song I hear I'm like that reminds me of when you
- 1:18:11were younger growing up and like, it got me like, yeah, I'm
- 1:18:15hyped. And like I was like, I don't
- 1:18:18feel that when I listen to music anymore.
- 1:18:20Like I, I'm too busy, like you see the memes, like me,
- 1:18:23listening to drug dealer music on the way, the my nine-to-five
- 1:18:29and they're like and it's like Someone really clean cut and I'm
- 1:18:32like, it's a mean it's funny. I got it is really funny because
- 1:18:36I'll listen to crazy music to going to like a volunteer thing,
- 1:18:40but Where's the actual song? Like I feel like that working
- 1:18:46hard like, you know, these rock stars and pop stars in the 80s
- 1:18:51and 90s were very like this is all I got here.
- 1:18:55I am like Bryan Adams. He were a T-shirt and jeans and
- 1:18:58has guitar, you know, like that's it.
- 1:19:01Like there was no gimmick. Like there was nothing to it.
- 1:19:04Like a lot of 80s hair bands, had the teased hair and all
- 1:19:07that, but they were just singing about poison nothing but a good
- 1:19:11time. No, like happy, you know, like
- 1:19:15party. And I like we do have party
- 1:19:18songs. Now.
- 1:19:18We are, you know, party rock is in the house tonight, but like
- 1:19:23even soda back. Yeah.
- 1:19:25Okay, but remember when dance music was crazy and like, 2010
- 1:19:30narrow it I feel like hasn't it calmed down a little and I feel
- 1:19:34like we're going to start to go up again.
- 1:19:35Music goes and Trends up and down, literally like a cookie.
- 1:19:40The 60s are, I wouldn't even say, A calm and then the late
- 1:19:4360s, we started getting more the stones and Zeppelin.
- 1:19:48Really God nasty with the guitar and then into the 80s, very
- 1:19:53electronic, but then grunge was calmer even though it's heavy.
- 1:19:57It is calmer than the 80s music like Alice in Chains is so dark
- 1:20:02and quiet. It's not quiet.
- 1:20:04I don't mean to say that, but it's very like droney compared
- 1:20:08to only nothing. But again, Yeah, what a
- 1:20:13difference in a few years and but then we started getting into
- 1:20:1799 and that's when insync came out and and everything and then
- 1:20:22all of a sudden late, 2007 S, it kind of ever for a second rock
- 1:20:27kind of slow down and then Kesha and Gaga came in and it got hype
- 1:20:31again and OneRepublic and all these LMFAO through 2012, 13 and
- 1:20:36now, here's Billy eilish Khalid and it's very calm R&B.
- 1:20:42Even Bieber, got calm for a second.
- 1:20:44Then his last album. Very upbeat Miley Rock album.
- 1:20:48Last album. Everything's getting bigger
- 1:20:50right now. Mmm MGK rock, you know, like I
- 1:20:55think we're going to that big sound again and those big sounds
- 1:20:58always do. Stay relevant as comic songs
- 1:21:00always well, but we do go in and out of trends like I feel like
- 1:21:03everything goes west. I think West and music to like
- 1:21:08all trains, go around the world. Literally they get passed around
- 1:21:11like X one, we're using like, you know, those very Middle
- 1:21:15Eastern like scales in pop music at times.
- 1:21:19Then we're going through a Kpop surgeons, the last few years,
- 1:21:23and let you know like things from around the world travel and
- 1:21:26I think where we are and music what's happening.
- 1:21:29I just think it's time for like this stuff.
- 1:21:31And if not right now it will eventually be time, you know,
- 1:21:35and the trends are going faster now because of the internet and
- 1:21:38what where what we have access to used to be 60.
- 1:21:42NTS 80's 90's. Now it's like every two years,
- 1:21:45the trends like it's very quick. Like I feel like we went through
- 1:21:49an 80s Trend like in like 2010 even like what like some artists
- 1:21:55we're like, doing 80s his stuff, and it got bigger and bigger and
- 1:21:58then it even turned into like, the 80s in a different way.
- 1:22:03Now, like, it's like the 80s evolved even more in me.
- 1:22:07It's cool. And even things were like NF,
- 1:22:10teas and crypto. We saw nft.
- 1:22:12Started out like these 8bit arts and now they're really good
- 1:22:15looking. I feel like we watched a new
- 1:22:17item called an NF T. Go from 8bit to great graphics
- 1:22:21within a year and it's like we saw a development of art within
- 1:22:25a year didn't that take like 1970 to 2010 to have good
- 1:22:30graphics and video games. And now we witness Graphics.
- 1:22:34Go from pixels to normal in an NF T because we only had pixels
- 1:22:39in nft is I think and then it grew already.
- 1:22:42Two good technology and graphics and I think that itself shows
- 1:22:46something about Trends and art and music.
- 1:22:49It's evolving so fast, we figure out how to go from.
- 1:22:53Oh man. It's like we invented things now
- 1:22:56like, oh there could be a cell phone now, but then we have the
- 1:23:00iPhone within a year like we figure it out the conception of
- 1:23:04the phone and then the iPhone level things are made.
- 1:23:07Now like so quick and I think it's the same thing with Trends.
- 1:23:11They're above Solving so fast and you can't chase the trends
- 1:23:15because if you're chasing it, you lost all the music you're
- 1:23:19hearing. I made these songs 23 years ago.
- 1:23:23Like, so if you're like, oh man, I could do what Lenny's doing
- 1:23:26like, well, no, you're three years behind like all the
- 1:23:30album's out from Lady. Gaga Drake.
- 1:23:33They're all a year plus old like.
- 1:23:36So if you hear that, wow, that's the new wave like no, you lost
- 1:23:41like your Behind. So, you know, with all that, I
- 1:23:44know that was all over the place, but I feel like it really
- 1:23:48sums up everything we talked about, you know, and it's just
- 1:23:51about being a leader being positive.
- 1:23:54There are dark things in the world, but we got to evolve and
- 1:23:57adapt and survive and help others survive.
- 1:24:00It's not survival of the fittest.
- 1:24:02Like, I mean, yes, it is, but We don't have to let other people
- 1:24:07fail and hurt each other. Like we can volunteer and help
- 1:24:10we do have time to spare for people.
- 1:24:13We can do things like we can Inspire others to do it and I
- 1:24:18think between my brand and what you're doing, you know, I like
- 1:24:21seeing these positive things and it's hard to find artists like
- 1:24:25that, but you are an artist in your own right.
- 1:24:27And you have very positive mindset.
- 1:24:30So it's nice to find the like minded individual.
- 1:24:33And I thank you for having me. On here and you know, sharing
- 1:24:36your podcast and letting me be part of it, I just mine as
- 1:24:40always. Thank you for that.
- 1:24:42I've got a few final questions before we sort of wrap things up
- 1:24:45for today. Just want to kind of gauge your
- 1:24:48mind a bit as far as knowledge is concerned.
- 1:24:53Okay, what's the best advice you've ever received?
- 1:24:58Best advice, just, I would say probably from my parents, you
- 1:25:06know, just they suggest keep going like, my dad always tells
- 1:25:11me. He's like, just keeping you
- 1:25:13like, just keep going. Don't stop.
- 1:25:16Just do it. Like, you gotta believe in
- 1:25:19yourself and like, forget what everyone else is saying and how
- 1:25:22hard things are. He was always very supportive
- 1:25:25like always thought my Arts games always at my shows, so, I
- 1:25:29was fortunate enough to have that support and I think that is
- 1:25:34like the advice that has been best, like someone telling me
- 1:25:37just keep going and that kind of helped me tell myself.
- 1:25:41Because then, if you say things over and over, like they're like
- 1:25:44mantra', you start to believe them because they become true.
- 1:25:47I think, just hearing it from him, like, chase your dreams.
- 1:25:50Like that's been, you know, just do it.
- 1:25:53And, like, not everyone has that support.
- 1:25:56So, I hope like again, in my music, I could show like, I Have
- 1:25:59support. And if you don't from a parent,
- 1:26:01like there are people like me and you and even like my dad
- 1:26:05will comment on other artists stuff.
- 1:26:07Like there is support out there. Like you're not alone.
- 1:26:11Couldn't agree more. What's the biggest life lesson
- 1:26:14you've learned so far. Don't meet your Idols.
- 1:26:20I can concur with that one. Yeah.
- 1:26:25Now A Life Lesson. Everything is a lesson.
- 1:26:30You gotta you're not down for the count ever.
- 1:26:32There's nothing you could do in life that's going to be so bad.
- 1:26:35That your life is over unless it is horribly, you know, like
- 1:26:39that's tragic but there's no business venture you could ever
- 1:26:43do that's gonna like you're broke.
- 1:26:45Ugh forever. Like you like there's nothing
- 1:26:48that's going to put you so far, but act like your life is over.
- 1:26:51So the lesson is like it's not over when you think of it as you
- 1:26:56you can do multiple Ventures. Like not.
- 1:26:59Everything's going to work. You have to shoot the ball 1000
- 1:27:02times together shot in you know, you have to write a thousand
- 1:27:06songs before one makes it so just keep going.
- 1:27:10Have that stamina. That's the lesson.
- 1:27:12I learned most artists don't fail a end.
- 1:27:15Stop. They break up.
- 1:27:17You know, I agree and all that today as well.
- 1:27:21Not everyone knows this, but I'm an aspiring actor, voice actor,
- 1:27:25musician. Lot of different things that I
- 1:27:27do in my life and I've been told in the past like all you need to
- 1:27:32focus on a niche. You should only focus on one
- 1:27:35thing. Why are you doing all these
- 1:27:36different things? And it speaks to what you're
- 1:27:38saying? And one of the reasons is I just
- 1:27:41don't want to live a life where I have to do one thing for the
- 1:27:43rest of my life. Yeah, but mine.
- 1:27:45Importantly. You know, I have the energy to
- 1:27:49do these things. I want to do these things.
- 1:27:52I want to pursue these things and I don't see any reason why I
- 1:27:55can't. And that's what I said.
- 1:27:58Like, for anyone can write, you can make it work.
- 1:28:03Yeah, you're a voice actor, the song, Tommy Pickles, a voice
- 1:28:06actor, actress and names eg daily.
- 1:28:09She's a singer. She, she's a voice actress.
- 1:28:13She was touring before she got the Tommy gig but just shows,
- 1:28:18she was doing music having record gigs, and she's Tommy,
- 1:28:21and she's tart. Not, she's not trying right now,
- 1:28:22but she's putting out music right now, and she's, you know,
- 1:28:26I don't know how old she is. I would imagine.
- 1:28:28She's probably between 45 and 55.
- 1:28:30Maybe I'm guessing, but it just shows is it she not doing
- 1:28:36everything you're doing and she's Tommy Pickles, and she's
- 1:28:39also Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls and everyone
- 1:28:42else we know. So if she did it, why can't you
- 1:28:46And instead of saying, why can't you though, I should say you
- 1:28:49can't you will, you know, you he did it.
- 1:28:52So you can, I think we all could do things.
- 1:28:54And sometimes people tell me like not everyone is capable.
- 1:28:58I think everyone is capable of saying, like, you need to find
- 1:29:03what it is. You know, there's so many things
- 1:29:05we don't do, you know, like what if I'm like, I could juggle
- 1:29:09pretty well. Weirdly enough like just like
- 1:29:12simple what if I pursued that? Well, if I became like a
- 1:29:15professional clown, like, you never.
- 1:29:16Or no, like, there's so much in life to do.
- 1:29:18And doing many things is only way you'll learn.
- 1:29:21I don't just be an artist. I record people, I write for
- 1:29:23people, I play live for people. I play multiple instruments.
- 1:29:27That in itself is all different Journeys.
- 1:29:29You know, I'm not just Lenny, Jay like I could record you.
- 1:29:33If you ever needed music, I could produce your stuff if you
- 1:29:36won and got it, recorded somewhere else and you need me,
- 1:29:38the only mix it, I could do that.
- 1:29:40So we're all doing multiple things and we're killing it.
- 1:29:47As we draw things to a close for today.
- 1:29:49Do you have any upcoming projects or final thoughts that
- 1:29:52you'd like to share with our listeners, more music coming.
- 1:29:55Consistently. I have a new song coming out.
- 1:29:58It's called overwhelmed. I was explaining before.
- 1:30:01I don't mind saying it here. It's called overwhelmed.
- 1:30:05It will be out in. May, the fifth song should be
- 1:30:11late April or in May depending, when you're listening to this
- 1:30:15right now. It's a future.
- 1:30:17Hello, us in the future. Hello future.
- 1:30:21I hope we're doing well in smiling.
- 1:30:23And so yeah, so they'll be playing more videos, videos
- 1:30:28songs. I'm going to be performing soon.
- 1:30:30Just keep up with me on social media.
- 1:30:32Lenny, Jay period, 13, my middle name actually, is Jay period in
- 1:30:37real life. So, yeah, so I'm Lenny, Jay
- 1:30:41period, don't forget the period and yeah, lots of Music, just
- 1:30:46and so many great artists. I'm working with.
- 1:30:49You could keep up with everything on social media.
- 1:30:51Like I said, I'm on Spotify YouTube.
- 1:30:55The next video for overwhelmed is going to be like a musical to
- 1:30:59so crazy. I can't wait for that.
- 1:31:02But yeah, just please keep up with everything.
- 1:31:04I'm doing. I want to hear from you.
- 1:31:05I want to know how my music impacts you.
- 1:31:08What your journey is. I talked to the people at
- 1:31:10message me. I answer all my comments and
- 1:31:13that's something a lot of the artists don't do it.
- 1:31:16Be inaccessible because I want to seem like higher than other
- 1:31:19people. And that's what I dealt with to,
- 1:31:22in past projects. I'm telling me, like, you're
- 1:31:24being too honest. We need to be above them, like,
- 1:31:27no, but anyway, future projects and all that.
- 1:31:31My musics coming out. I'm working with great artists
- 1:31:34lookout, for overwhelm coming up.
- 1:31:36I have ep's coming more songs album, coming everything like I
- 1:31:40have probably 25 to 30 full songs, done like the quality of
- 1:31:46Me and I also have like four other videos already done like
- 1:31:49ready. So I'm ahead.
- 1:31:51So it's coming. I'm just, you know, guess I can
- 1:31:54give a song every week. I think they're too grand for
- 1:31:58that. Kind of strategy, even though
- 1:31:59that does work. For some people.
- 1:32:01There's too much I think to consume.
- 1:32:04It's a lot of to understand and process.
- 1:32:06So I can't just drop, you know, like run away.
- 1:32:09Tommy over like these songs are, you know, we're having an hour
- 1:32:12conversation. You can't do that.
- 1:32:14Every second, it's too much, you know, so just keep a lookout so
- 1:32:19much his own way toys. You want me to play Anywhere.
- 1:32:21Reach out to me. Let me know.
- 1:32:23If you're an artist you need music done.
- 1:32:26I could work with you. Even.
- 1:32:27I work with so many other artists like I've been
- 1:32:30mentioning anything music or if you just want to talk and tell
- 1:32:33me about your day, people reach out and they tell me the things
- 1:32:36they go through. So everything coming up, is just
- 1:32:40music happiness. Good conversation.
- 1:32:43Good company. So just keep a lookout for that.
- 1:32:46I'm sure we'll stay in touch and custard.
- 1:32:50Thank you so much. Thank you for watching.
- 1:32:53The pleasure's. Mine is always man's.
- 1:32:55It's been real, you know, we'll be talking consistently outside
- 1:32:59of this. But thank you for what you do.
- 1:33:01Your podcast is really cool. I really enjoy the guess you
- 1:33:04have from what I've listened to. I look forward to the new angle.
- 1:33:08You're doing literally staring straight forward.
- 1:33:11That's screen. It's all good things.
- 1:33:13I think what Doing will help the world.
- 1:33:16And, you know, there are other people out there like look at us
- 1:33:19talking. I haven't really.
- 1:33:21I did one other podcasts only in the person was super positive
- 1:33:24like this, and I'm like, wow, maybe they are out there and
- 1:33:28yeah, but just thank you for having me.
- 1:33:31Anyway, I could speak about my music and what I do is
- 1:33:33appreciate it. So your time is very
- 1:33:36appreciated. Thank you so much.
- 1:33:39And yeah, it's all the listeners of Christian way podcast.
- 1:33:42Please go out of your way to check out Lenny.
- 1:33:43Jay. And thank you for listening.
- 1:33:46As always be safe. Be well, and I'll see you next
- 1:33:49one.
