- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three O take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes it.
- 0:11All starts. Right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by Chinook Ceder this
- 0:17episode 6 O 4. I'll be your hosts, Kyle Korne
- 0:21here with my Co host Nate Reyes and JB in the corner.
- 0:33All right, you messed up the whole flow.
- 0:34KCJB How are we happy? Jackie Robinson Day.
- 0:40I felt weird, you know, this whole time I'm saying my Co is
- 0:43Nate and JB is just hanging out in the corner.
- 0:44But to be fair, you do flip it to him.
- 0:46I get my guy, I get my guy. Yeah, well, I'm just trying to
- 0:49get my guy too. You know, boys, we're three
- 0:53weeks into the season. You believe it?
- 1:00Jackie Robinson Day. All right.
- 1:04Did you guys see the Machado take by the way?
- 1:08I did not. Enlighten us.
- 1:10Manny Machado is not wearing 42 this year.
- 1:13What? Because he the quote basically
- 1:18said this is Jackie Robinson Day, not Dodgers Day.
- 1:25He doesn't like the blue 42, he said.
- 1:28I'm not a blue guy, he said. I love Jackie Robinson.
- 1:31I he means the world to me, something like that.
- 1:33But it was like, I'm not. I'm not about the blue.
- 1:37Dang, I was really hoping I would kind of like it.
- 1:39No, I hate that. I was really hoping it would
- 1:41have been like a profound take and I would have been like, wow,
- 1:43another reason I'm coming around on Manny Machado after all these
- 1:47years. No, I like it, but like no, it's
- 1:49stupid because it's like that was hit his blue 42.
- 1:55That was his that the way it's it's designed the color that was
- 2:01Jackie Robinson. So the whole like, it's not.
- 2:04Did he really say it's not Dodgers Day, 'cause if that's
- 2:09what he said, that's stupid. Like just wear the 42, dude.
- 2:13Now you just look like an idiot. For I think the aspect of I
- 2:16liked the fact that we saw the different 40 twos.
- 2:19Do you remember that commercial where it was like it would flash
- 2:22into all the 42 jerseys and then it would get to the Dodger blue
- 2:26one? And I like that aspect to it.
- 2:29But that wasn't. But that wasn't Jackie, though.
- 2:32Understandable. I think 42 is 42.
- 2:35I think the number, you know, is what it is like.
- 2:38I, I think the honour is still there.
- 2:43I just, I kind of get what he's saying and I like the little bit
- 2:47of like a, you know, the Dodger jab in it.
- 2:52No, like this. I think I'm in.
- 2:55I think it's fine because I'm not a Dodgers fan and I'm not a
- 2:58Padres fan and it doesn't affect me that much.
- 3:02I like the little spark between them.
- 3:04I get what you're saying like this was, but like we did it for
- 3:07a freaking decade. That's of that's normal 42 we're
- 3:11OK we got switched it. All right, we got multiple
- 3:14points going on here. My point to your point about the
- 3:17jab thing, Jackie Robinson at this stage in the history of
- 3:21baseball, I mean for for a while now, but most certainly at this
- 3:26stage in the game in 2026 transcends rivalries that
- 3:33involve the Dodgers and Padres, namely.
- 3:36So I don't, I don't know that the jab is really necessary,
- 3:40especially considering the fact he played for the Dodgers.
- 3:45Second of all, I, I'll, I'll say it again, I don't understand his
- 3:53beef with just wearing the 42 that Jackie wore it.
- 3:57It doesn't make sense to me. I get what you're saying.
- 4:04I get it. I think that's I, I, I'm of the
- 4:08camp. It's kind of like the, the All
- 4:10Star game. You like, you know, randomly
- 4:13switching up from wearing each team's jersey to like an
- 4:18American, American League, National League thing.
- 4:22I kind of liked the day, Yeah. I mean, obviously it started
- 4:27with like certain names, like we at one point we only had a
- 4:30couple names wearing 42. And then like the more the
- 4:34league caught on and then the whole like everybody wore it and
- 4:38then names went away and it was just 42.
- 4:40And then now it's like the blue 42.
- 4:42So I see both sides of it. I just, I think I like the way
- 4:51all the different 40 twos look. I think it's I think it's unique
- 4:55I. Got a little bit of a timeline
- 4:58here. It looks like back in 97, which
- 5:01was, which was the 50th anniversary at that time, I I
- 5:07mean, they were saying the last player to wear 42 regular was
- 5:09was was MO Mariano Rivera Selig embraced the Griffey's gesture.
- 5:15Griffey wore 42, then I think in 97.
- 5:21Selig liked it. He encouraged other clubs to
- 5:24have a player wear number 42. It got to a point where in 2007
- 5:31this started to be more. There was there was some
- 5:34pushback. Several players thought 150
- 5:38players wearing number 42 was far too many.
- 5:41It was supposed to be an honor, Tori Hunter said.
- 5:44So like there was a little bit of pushback even back in the
- 5:47very beginning in 2007 when they started when when they started
- 5:52doing this league wide. 2004 was actually the the first official
- 5:59Jackie Robinson day 97 was when they retired it.
- 6:03That's where 97 came in and Griffey wore it as as like an
- 6:07honor piece. Sounds like Tori Hunter's
- 6:09gatekeeping a little bit there, a little bit.
- 6:11I don't know, like that. I mean, it kind of kind of goes
- 6:13against literally the entire. Point of it.
- 6:16The whole point of it, but yeah. 2009 is when everybody started
- 6:21wearing it. It wasn't until 2022 that it
- 6:25became 42's rendered in Dodger blue.
- 6:29So I feel like when you're looking back at like a hey, this
- 6:33is a thing we've been doing to honor Jackie.
- 6:36The blue part of that is relatively new.
- 6:41I would say in the Manny case, like, hey, I don't mind you
- 6:45raising a fuss about it, but like denying to wear it is, is
- 6:49another thing. I, I don't know, I, I, I feel
- 6:54like that's Jackie's thing. You guys seen the movie 42?
- 6:58Yeah. I like the the moment in that
- 7:01movie where they kind of nod to the fact that we do this, where
- 7:05he said tomorrow I'm going to wear number 42 so they can't
- 7:08tell us apart. Like that's my favorite part of
- 7:11that movie, right. And then it was someday we'll
- 7:14all wear 42 and like that wasn't actually said, but but they took
- 7:19that part in that movie and kind of nodded to the fact that we do
- 7:22that. I think that's really cool.
- 7:26I think complaining about it being Dodger blue and and going
- 7:29for change your Manny Machado. You probably have a voice and
- 7:31change it's. Also a fairpoint.
- 7:35You know what I mean? Yeah, I get it.
- 7:40Look, I'm not, I'm not saying I would do it myself.
- 7:44I'm not saying I would have these same comments.
- 7:48I'm just saying that I kind of get more just because of the
- 7:52fact that I I enjoyed all the different 40 twos.
- 7:56I think that and I get Kyle's point to where it's like it's
- 8:00the fact that it's Jackie's. So I don't think anyone's wrong
- 8:04in this scenario. Maybe Machado, but me personally
- 8:16I like the old ones. Can I get a round of applause?
- 8:22Happy Tax Day as well. Oh, that's insane now.
- 8:25Jackie Robinson Day, No. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 8:28It's National Banana Day while we're at it.
- 8:29That's. Perfect the.
- 8:32Real. Yeah, I found I got an e-mail
- 8:35from Duncan. Kind of wild.
- 8:37Come on. Just all over the place.
- 8:39Man, get with it, Duncan. Yeah, banana cold foam.
- 8:42Shout out Duncan anyway. Did it hit?
- 8:46Was it good? I.
- 8:47Didn't. No, no, I didn't get it.
- 8:48I just got the e-mail. Oh.
- 8:50I got that. Yeah, it kind of sounds good.
- 8:52Not gonna be. Yeah, Shout out, Duncan.
- 8:55Can I get a round of applause for not interrupting you at any
- 8:57point during that, that, that segment?
- 9:00Homie got called out and it's. Yeah, OK.
- 9:04Yeah. So we talked about this, we
- 9:06talked about this on our Sunday clubhouse on Sunday.
- 9:09First one we addressed the fact that I interrupt Nate a lot.
- 9:15I I think it was said in the chat, Kyle do be interrupting
- 9:18Nate a lot. So I think we threw out the idea
- 9:22of maybe incorporating some sort of like time out, maybe put me
- 9:26in the penalty box. You guys have the ability to
- 9:29mute me if if need be. To be fair, it's not something
- 9:33I've ever really noticed that much and I get now.
- 9:38Or, well, you get angry. You get angry if I drop in a
- 9:41breaking news out of nowhere. It's the soundboard.
- 9:44I'd rather you verbally interrupt me then hit a freaking
- 9:48button. But OK, well, I've made it
- 9:53progress. I've made it known that the
- 9:55mute, but you can mute me if if necessary, if need be, if it
- 9:59gets out of hand. So just use that, use that at
- 10:03your discretion. Let's get into some let's look
- 10:06around the league, shall we? I mentioned we're three weeks
- 10:09into this thing. I, it's still kind of hard to
- 10:11believe and I don't know, man, I feel like we got a, there's a
- 10:18lot, there's a lot of storylines around the league right now for
- 10:21this stage of the season. Usually it, I feel like it takes
- 10:24a minute for things to heat up a little bit, but I mean, there's
- 10:30a lot going on in baseball. I mean, Mike Trout, they, I
- 10:35think they need to replace the Statue of Liberty with the
- 10:38Statue of Mike Trout, honestly. Guy needs to come to New York.
- 10:42Dude, the. No, no.
- 10:45Absurd. No, I don't know why he would do
- 10:47that. Real close for his family.
- 10:49Family was there. Oh, he hit another one tonight.
- 10:53Yes, it's 4. Yeah, dude, I was just talking
- 11:01about. I was talking about the game
- 11:05where he was going toe to toe with Judge.
- 11:07I didn't realize he went deep again.
- 11:10Yeah, they both did. Well, that's not what we're here
- 11:13to talk about. We're here to talk about Mike
- 11:14Chaup you mentioned judge. Well, anyway, no, that's just
- 11:22one of many storylines around base right now is the the, what
- 11:26do you call it? The the resurgence, the return
- 11:29of my I don't I feel weird saying those things when it
- 11:31comes to one of the greatest of all time, But it is good to see.
- 11:36It's good to see Mike back, man. It's good to see the that swing
- 11:40back. Yeah, it's coming.
- 11:42It's coming along. Good series.
- 11:44I mean, still hitting like 2:30, so you'd like to see that number
- 11:47go up. We're not here to talk about
- 11:48that either. We're here to talk about the
- 11:50damage that's been done on behalf of Mike Trout all.
- 11:56Right, then you talk about it. No, no, no, I just want to throw
- 12:02that out there because it's literally the first thing that
- 12:03pops up on MLB.com. I was I wanted to look or or get
- 12:07your all's thoughts more so on on what the standings are
- 12:11looking like. Again, still super early, but
- 12:17three weeks in, I feel like is a big enough sample size to to
- 12:23lend itself to some discussion, some observations.
- 12:27I'll I'll call it. And you know, nothing, nothing
- 12:32that you got to take to the bank.
- 12:33But there, there's certainly some things that make you go and
- 12:39I'd, I'd, I'd say there's a few things around the league right
- 12:42now that's making, making me go, Oh, you know what?
- 12:46I really wanted to hit the pirate music button right there.
- 12:50But I've I have learned that when I play that now we get
- 12:55demonetized. Oh.
- 12:58Really. Yeah.
- 12:59So I don't know what to do. We going to find.
- 13:03Another one it's. I mean, I've, I've made that
- 13:08such a staple. It's iconic at this point.
- 13:11I don't know how if I can just if I can find something else
- 13:15like that. Wait, the song or the Michael?
- 13:18Scott no the song. Song.
- 13:20Yeah. It's called like battleship or
- 13:24something. I get an e-mail and it's like
- 13:26you sharing revenue with so and so pirate ship by such and such
- 13:32or battleship or whatever it's called.
- 13:34So let's. Turn to AI.
- 13:36Let's turn to AI. No, there's other ways.
- 13:38I can't. I can't.
- 13:41There's other ways. You know what?
- 13:43I don't even care. 1st place Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 13:47How about it? How about it?
- 13:50Just got another dub tonight against the lowly, pathetic, no
- 13:55disrespect, Washington Nationals, but JB, tell us
- 14:01about. Give them the floor.
- 14:02Give them. The floor.
- 14:04The floor is yours, my friend. Talk.
- 14:06Talk to us about the the Pirates and that.
- 14:09Well, I mean, what is their winning games look at?
- 14:14This guy team wins a couple games just like, I mean, what
- 14:16else? That's what we do.
- 14:18We just win games and what else do you want me to say?
- 14:22I've been talking about it a lot like we've had.
- 14:25Ryan O'hearn started the year hot, kind of carried a little
- 14:28bit. O'Neill Cruz is just coming off
- 14:32a heater right now, kind of carried the team a little bit.
- 14:36There's still a ton of mistakes. There's still a ton of things
- 14:40that need cleaned up. I think that's the thing that
- 14:43makes me feel best about it is that the fact that like, I feel
- 14:47like they haven't even been clicking on all cylinders yet.
- 14:54Up until up until this weekend, only four players on the Pirates
- 14:59had hit a home run. So like, it's not like that that
- 15:05it's, it's a full like this isn't a hot team yet.
- 15:10That's, I mean, not to, I'm not going to try and steal Thunder
- 15:13from the Pirates at all, but it, it feels like no one is, it
- 15:18feels like no one is what no one's that like all these teams
- 15:23are outside of the, you know, the Dodgers for the most part,
- 15:29kind of the Padres as well. Everyone's like 2 games over 503
- 15:34games over 500. Yeah, it's been a weird start to
- 15:37the year. Like it's just very even across
- 15:41the board. And it's kind of like you've
- 15:45seen really poor performances from teams and you've seen good
- 15:49performances. Like it's, it's almost still
- 15:52feeling like spring training, you know?
- 15:57I would say this though. I mean, the Yankees out of the
- 15:59gate were hot. Yeah, and then drop five
- 16:03straight. So right.
- 16:04And so, yeah, exactly. But you see what I'm saying on
- 16:06that though? Like they had a they had a time
- 16:08when they were hot. You could say the Padres are hot
- 16:12right now. I think they've run off 6
- 16:14straight, right? Yeah.
- 16:17And they're playing. They're playing Seattle today.
- 16:20Yeah, in the middle of a six straight or six game-winning
- 16:22streak. Nine and one in the last 10.
- 16:24And you could say like looking at at the, the Dodgers and and
- 16:28the Braves, where's the Braves? Yeah, run differential, they're
- 16:31live right now. But run differential of plus 41,
- 16:35I think there's been a a fair amount.
- 16:37I mean, they're five and five in their last game, but like,
- 16:39they've been hot at at certain times.
- 16:43And the Mets right now ice cold, the the Brewers ice cold.
- 16:49Does that make sense? Yeah.
- 16:55Sure does. This is not going to work dude.
- 16:59You're going to have to interject.
- 17:02He's like waiting to try not to interrupt Kyle.
- 17:06Corwin yes. OK, just make it.
- 17:09Just going back to Nate's comment earlier about the Red
- 17:12Sox being 711, Whoever caught that?
- 17:14Maybe you didn't catch that, but I, I picked up on it.
- 17:16He dropped a little 7:00 and 11:00.
- 17:18I knew right away what he's talking about.
- 17:20Just quick comment on that. You can say all you want about
- 17:257:00 and 11:00, but you know what is special about 7:00 and
- 17:2811:00? You're a Duncan guy, dude.
- 17:32This has nothing to do with Duncan.
- 17:33You know what's special about 7:00 and 11:00?
- 17:36Slurpees. OK, whatever Yankee.
- 17:39Whatever record the Yankees have right now probably doesn't have
- 17:42Slurpees. So dude.
- 17:44We're busting our tail against the Angels.
- 17:46I'm thrilled. Although I I must interject.
- 17:50This is my only Yankee statement of the night.
- 17:53If you want it to be, you guys need to look up how bad Jordan
- 17:58Romano has been against the Yankees for like the last like 7
- 18:02years. Dude he just blew another one.
- 18:04Yankees just walked it off. He has been.
- 18:08Oh, that was to win. That was to win.
- 18:10That was ball game. Jordan Romano cannot play
- 18:13against the Yankees. There's something about it,
- 18:16anyways. Going back to your point, I
- 18:19think it was JB about or no, Nate, it was you about the other
- 18:24than the Dodgers, a lot of these teams just looking sort of
- 18:28mediocre As of right now, the second best team in the American
- 18:33League. Again, this is as of this very
- 18:36moment, the Tampa Bay Rays. They're the second best team in
- 18:39the American League in our two games over 500.
- 18:44So you can only imagine if you look at the if you look at the
- 18:46league standings, just look at the rest of the American League
- 18:48and it's atrocious. How about the Twins?
- 18:52Yeah, I don't. I don't, I don't particularly
- 18:55know what's going on in Minnesota.
- 18:56Very, very peculiar behavior going on in Minnesota.
- 19:00Check in on The Who did? Who did you guys have for your
- 19:04your worst team drafts? I think I ended up with the
- 19:07Twins and Rockies. And the Twins.
- 19:10And Rockies. I went.
- 19:14I went nationals. I think you you don't have the
- 19:21White Sox, do you? No, because I had them being 500
- 19:25or better I. Don't remember, continue.
- 19:31Sorry. I'll, I'll look.
- 19:32It up, I thought I did I. Still got the notes.
- 19:35No, I didn't have the White Sox. I literally I have them in the
- 19:38A's at 500 or better this year, so I wouldn't draft them.
- 19:44That episode was all over the place to be fair.
- 19:45Yeah, and it was between them and the twins and I I thought
- 19:48you were going twins. I have the Cardinals and the
- 19:50White Sox, OK? I do not have what you guys had
- 19:54now. You're going to make me look
- 19:55this up? I think JB had.
- 19:58I think it's the Rockies. Yeah, and the twins.
- 20:01'Cause it was up to Kyle to pick between the twins and another
- 20:04team, and I thought he was going twins.
- 20:08He has the Nationals for one of them, yeah.
- 20:10Yeah. But I don't remember what his
- 20:12other team was. Pull it up.
- 20:21Two teams each to try and total up the most losses.
- 20:27We're going to total up those combined losses and see who wins
- 20:30at. The end of the year.
- 20:31All right, I'll go first pick the Rockies.
- 20:34Yeah, go ahead and give me the Washington Nationals.
- 20:38I will take the sucks if you're a fan of any of these teams.
- 20:42I think probably the six teams picked will be understood.
- 20:44I. Mean, I guess, but it just, it's
- 20:46kind of hard to hear. The boys doing a worst team's
- 20:49draft and really shedding light on just how garbage they are,
- 20:53but that's fine. I will go Cardinals and White
- 20:56Sox. You knew it.
- 20:59Yeah, I'm doing good. I'm taking the Los Angeles
- 21:01Angeles. Oh yeah, I think.
- 21:03JB just won. Yeah, I'll go twins.
- 21:06Yeah. Angels, yeah.
- 21:10To be fair, the the Angels and the twins, Oh no, that's the
- 21:15A's. I was going to say, we're only
- 21:16one loss off between Angels and Twins.
- 21:21Anything else around the the league that sort of jumps out at
- 21:25you that's a little jarring maybe.
- 21:30I don't know if anyone saw the Giants being this bad to start.
- 21:34I mean, obviously we didn't. We were high on Tony Vitello and
- 21:40that's had some shaky stuff going on, weird clubhouse stuff,
- 21:45weird sound bites, weird quotes. That just doesn't look like it's
- 21:51really gelling that well, there's, you know, there's weird
- 21:54stuff going on with Matt Chapman and Casey Schmidt.
- 21:56It's just, it's a lot of odd. I mean, they're -27 run
- 22:00differential at the moment they're six and. 1218 Major
- 22:04League games under his belt. I got not ready to throw it out
- 22:08yet. I'm just saying that that's a,
- 22:11that's a, you know, you can't, can't win the division in April,
- 22:16but can can you lose it? The Giants on April 14th last
- 22:23year were 12 and four. They finished 81 and 81 guys.
- 22:31It is still early. Wait, were we, did I understand
- 22:36you correctly, Nate, are you, are you saying that we should be
- 22:40looking at the division for the Giants in the first place?
- 22:43No, I'm just saying in general the division can't be 1 in
- 22:54April, but it general the division.
- 22:56Can't be 1 in April. That's.
- 22:57What you're going to say, but it can be lost.
- 23:02And I'm not saying that anyone had them winning the division,
- 23:05but like, Yikes, dude. I mean, this is this is bad.
- 23:09This is real bad. Can I say that I'm I'm
- 23:13thoroughly impressed with what I've seen out of the San Diego
- 23:16Padres thus far? I am too.
- 23:19We'll get in, we'll get into a particular individual who's I
- 23:23think we can, we can credit for a decent bit of that success,
- 23:27but my goodness. It's just the vibes are
- 23:32inaccurate. I mean that video, I don't know
- 23:35if you guys ended up watching it, but that video I sent you, I
- 23:37mean, this was I guess a week ago at this point, but the the
- 23:40Don Orsillo call from the. Was it the sheets?
- 23:44Was. It no, it was the one the day
- 23:46before. I think it was Xander.
- 23:48I think it was a Zander Grand Slam.
- 23:50Yeah. What Grandson walking off slam
- 23:53Diego, the return of San Diego, all that.
- 23:55I'm like, if that's just a a snapshot of what's going on in
- 24:00San Diego right now, sign me up. I know.
- 24:02But the fact that that was back-to-back nights, by the way.
- 24:05So in those, in those alternates, I'm going to, I'm
- 24:08not, I'm going to start it. I'm not going to say city
- 24:11connects. I'm going to say alternates in
- 24:13those alternates looking real good.
- 24:17Yeah, dude. I mean, it's just it's good
- 24:18ball. I'm impressed.
- 24:21And like JB said earlier, six in a row Braves interesting start
- 24:28for, you know, being so banged up before even really getting
- 24:34going. Pitching staff I think I saw was
- 24:37like third best starting ERA in in baseball.
- 24:45Yeah, I think I saw that either yesterday or the day before.
- 24:49Don't know if that's, you know, obviously changed since then,
- 24:51but like, you know, to be down starters and and that's how
- 24:54they're starting now. Like that's that's awesome.
- 24:57Just a lot of weird stuff. Do we need to do we need to, do
- 25:02we need to talk Lindor? What's going on?
- 25:07I, I keep hearing, I keep hearing the names swirling
- 25:10around. I, I mean, I don't have my ear
- 25:12to the ground in, in Queens because it's probably smells
- 25:15like pee. But what, like what's going on?
- 25:18You know, like what's going on with Lindor there?
- 25:21It's the it's the like a lot of like head plays dude, like a lot
- 25:26of bat. Forgotten how many outs there
- 25:28are not covering second on double play balls getting picked
- 25:32off like just like random weird. He's also obviously hitting off
- 25:39to a really slow start hitting wise.
- 25:41Like I get the hand injury that is the ham ate bone.
- 25:45He didn't have a good spring. Is that still lingering?
- 25:48But it's like and then the whole stuff mixed with like the
- 25:51opening day in City field. Everybody's dapping up Sodo.
- 25:56But like though that interaction wasn't like super friendly.
- 25:59I don't know if we're dissecting that too much.
- 26:02Just a lot of weird stuff around Lindor.
- 26:04And we've talked about it before.
- 26:05We've said that when he went there initially, we were like,
- 26:09Mr. Smile in Cleveland is going to eventually lose his joy
- 26:13playing for this organization. And it kind of seems like it's
- 26:19it's happening. It's hard to watch.
- 26:24The Mets are a hard watch, but yeah.
- 26:26Especially right now, I think the power is easy to blame on
- 26:29the on the ham 8, the slow start, the whole, the whole 9
- 26:33yards, right? The defensive stuff is not I, I
- 26:36don't understand it, Kyle. It is, it is like ground ball up
- 26:40the middle. And once Simeon goes after the
- 26:43ball like he just kept going. It's on the right side of the
- 26:47bag. It's.
- 26:48On the right side of the bag, like he clearly should have been
- 26:51looking for a double play and Simeon had to run to the bag,
- 26:54barely got the out and certainly wasn't going to get anything at
- 26:57first. But then the pick off is just
- 26:59like they threw the pick off and he froze and he just stood there
- 27:03and waited for him to tag. He was still fixing his oven
- 27:06Mitt and it was literally the next half inning after
- 27:10forgetting how many outs there were on just stepping on 2nd and
- 27:14not turning in double play. Yeah, I feel like we're seeing
- 27:17that. I'm not, I mean, stupid, you
- 27:21know, stupid mental play is stupid mental play.
- 27:23But so I'm not I'm not trying to like bail indoor out like he
- 27:27needs to be. He's going to be paid what he's
- 27:29paid if he's going to be anointed, you know, the the
- 27:32leader of the team needs to be held to a higher standard.
- 27:35So like I said, I'm not trying to bail him out, but I feel like
- 27:37we've seen just a, a general fogginess, general fogginess.
- 27:45In fact, we've. Seen a general fogginess from
- 27:48guys around the. League where it's civil war.
- 27:51General, it's general foggy, huge.
- 27:55I just feel like I can't be, I can't be, I can't be called for
- 28:01this twice. It's like double jeopardy.
- 28:02I'm going to say it again. I've just feel like we've seen a
- 28:05general fogginess from gut. You can't.
- 28:09It's double jeopardy. You have a fogginess is got to
- 28:14be the coldest general out there.
- 28:16General out there. I can't, I can't.
- 28:25I'm done. I'm done.
- 28:27No, but like I don't, I, I don't, I don't remember it being
- 28:30like this to where you get, you get the the slowness out of the
- 28:36gates. OK, it's still early.
- 28:38Understood, but like we're just seeing, we're just seeing guys
- 28:43space it out all together, not forgetting how many outs there
- 28:46are, like you said, just not knowing where to be on certain
- 28:50plays, base running mistakes, which that's just a that's
- 28:53commonplace in baseball now, but we're just seeing, I feel like
- 28:57even worse base running mistakes and, and just an overall lack of
- 29:02awareness. I I.
- 29:03Think like I'm fine, I'm not fine with it.
- 29:07I think I can. I can understand why young guys
- 29:12that come up make some of these mistakes and understand the fact
- 29:15that like obviously the the fundamentals are being taught
- 29:18the same way in modern League Baseball that they used to be.
- 29:20But like for A10 plus year vet that I there's no excuse there.
- 29:29There's no excuse. And when you're scuffling this
- 29:34bad, when eyeballs are on you this much, I don't know, like
- 29:40there, I mean, there's speculation where it's like, I
- 29:42hope he's OK, like at home, you know what I mean?
- 29:44Like, I hope he's not like anything off the field going on
- 29:47in his mind that is like, you know, and that's not good.
- 29:52Well, to your point, a guy that fits that bill, who's been in
- 29:54the league that long making, you know, just having this sort of
- 29:59lack awareness, just not knowing where to be, whatever that I
- 30:04feel like is a again, I don't want to speculate wrongly, but
- 30:08that I feel like that's a fair assumption to be like, well,
- 30:11it's not, it's not early season nerves.
- 30:15It's not, you know, just major debuts.
- 30:18Like that's not what we're dealing with with a guy like
- 30:19Glenn Dore. We're we're talking about a guy
- 30:21that's been around the league for a number of years now and
- 30:25he's still doing these kinds of things.
- 30:27So it makes you wonder if if that's what it is.
- 30:30There was a lot of conversation around his tiff with Nimmo and
- 30:36now like Pete Lonzo not being there.
- 30:40Like how? How much of the clubhouse drama,
- 30:45how much of the lack of cohesion is Mr. Smile, the guy that we
- 30:53like at one point all loved to watch, kind of maybe a little
- 31:00divisive. I'm not going there yet.
- 31:07Hey, credit to JB for believing him.
- 31:09He traded. Traded for him in fantasy.
- 31:12I sent him JB. On a low?
- 31:14On a low, what'd you send back? What was it?
- 31:17Another guy out of NDP? Yeah, neither one of them had a
- 31:21home run yet. No, I was saying that based on
- 31:25the the hand issue I was, I was more OK shipping Lindor out from
- 31:30a fantasy perspective because I'm like, you just never know
- 31:33how these kind of things go. But like we're talking about,
- 31:36this isn't even related to the Ammate.
- 31:37This is we're talking about issues that are so far away from
- 31:43being related to a Ammate. So I, I don't know what's going
- 31:46on in Queens there's. The handmaid's apparently been
- 31:49bugging him for the last two years and he's still gone 3030.
- 31:52So that 30 double S30 homers last three years, he's done
- 31:57that. So I'm not concerned about that
- 31:59necessarily. It's, it's mostly, I feel like
- 32:03this started before the Mets started on this slide.
- 32:06So it's not that he's just annoyed that they're losing
- 32:09either. I don't know.
- 32:12I'm a big Lindor guy. I'm rooting for him to pull out
- 32:14of this. I don't care if the Mets lose
- 32:16the rest of the games, but Lindor is my guy.
- 32:18Yeah, I'm gonna get it. There's also other stuff with
- 32:20like Seeger and Simeon didn't apparently gel well.
- 32:24So like, is Simeon being there now an issue with Lindor?
- 32:27Like it, there's just a lot of question Marks and like the
- 32:30miners just can't get out of there somewhere.
- 32:32Divas in baseball. Yeah, that's a big thing too.
- 32:35Like, I think that's a thing that we need to maybe get over a
- 32:38little bit. You have the biggest diva
- 32:40playing right field for you right now.
- 32:42We. Just need guys getting in
- 32:44clubhouse fights more often and just deal with it and move on.
- 32:47Bash it out like. Is it Papple Bond Harper style?
- 32:51No, not no. I'm saying behind closed doors,
- 32:54not like that. Well, the I don't.
- 32:57But if that's what it takes. That's what it takes to go in
- 32:59like a different direction. I don't know if you guys saw the
- 33:03sorry, the the Rizzo, David Ross like 2016 Cubs podcast thing
- 33:10that they started, they started a podcast and now they're I
- 33:14don't know if it's David Ross, it's definitely Rizzo with
- 33:17somebody else might be David Ross.
- 33:19But they had Jon Lester on. They were talking about this
- 33:21story that like Rizzo, Rizzo did something and and it rubbed Jon
- 33:30Lester the wrong way. And Jon Lester just so
- 33:33apparently it was telling the story of like in the clubhouse,
- 33:36just got in his face and screamed at him.
- 33:39And then it was good. Like it was squashed, you know
- 33:41what I mean? And if I it's just kind of feels
- 33:46like baseball's gotten a little bit softer since that era has,
- 33:51you know, of players have phased out.
- 33:54And you know, we're talking those, those Lester's, those
- 33:57papal bonds, those CC's, those guys that are like willing to
- 34:01raise their voice and not be so buddy buddy and like actually
- 34:05run that club. You kind of have an enforcer.
- 34:08And when you look around the league, you kind of wonder like
- 34:13those guys used to stick out. They used, used to know who the
- 34:16enforcer was. And now I would say majority of
- 34:19teams you look at you're like, I don't know who that is.
- 34:22I don't know what guy in what uniform is laying down the law.
- 34:26But nobody wants to step in to be the enforcer on forget
- 34:32baseball team, a sports team, because the the the direction
- 34:38that sports are heading and have been heading for some time now
- 34:42are just like we don't do it that way anymore.
- 34:46Like guys are dapping each other like across, across sides of the
- 34:52field. They're dapping each other up
- 34:54before the game, post game, in the middle of the game.
- 34:57Like it's just a different style where it's like we don't need
- 35:01to, we don't need to be policed. We're just out here sort of
- 35:04doing our own thing and we're fine with that.
- 35:08So who if they want to not stick out like a sore thumb, who wants
- 35:14to jump in and fill that role and sort of be the quote UN
- 35:19quote old fashioned guy to sort of wrangle guys Because there's
- 35:23there's too many, too much money, too many egos now for for
- 35:28guys to fall in line for for younger guys, for for the
- 35:32talented guys to fall in line. Listening to the voice of some,
- 35:36you know, grizzled vet, if you will.
- 35:38I don't know. It's just I don't think we're
- 35:40going to see much of that anymore.
- 35:42Maybe some of that, the production of the younger
- 35:45players too, not just the fact that they're there.
- 35:48But hey, look at the, look at the numbers.
- 35:52Yeah. Yeah, You know what I mean?
- 35:54I also think that part of that could be the amount of roster
- 35:59movement we see in the game and all the games now.
- 36:02I mean, the NFL, I've got no clue who plays for anyone until
- 36:06Week 4. It's ridiculous how much those
- 36:09teams change every year. Minus the quarterback and a
- 36:12receiver. Everyone else is different.
- 36:15And you know, obviously Major League Baseball has a ton of
- 36:18movement as well in its own right and and have for a long
- 36:22time. But even mid season and
- 36:25offseason and everybody's different.
- 36:26You just never know when you're going to have to play with
- 36:28somebody and then you've already played with half the league.
- 36:33And because of that you get more of that before after the game
- 36:38and, and WBCS probably increased that a lot because you're
- 36:43playing with guys in the WBC, Dominican winter leagues, like
- 36:47all those guys and all those different things, like you're
- 36:50playing with these guys in different, in different parts.
- 36:54And it makes it. Back in the day you played with
- 36:57the same franchise. Yeah, Unless something weird
- 37:00happened. Right.
- 37:02You hated those. Guys, four years in in minor
- 37:04league service before you're getting called up and you're
- 37:07you're earning your stripes in a way.
- 37:09But anyway, old man talk over. That's a great segue, my friend
- 37:14JB talking about a guy that's going to be with a team for a
- 37:18while. Let's switch gears here to talk
- 37:19Kevin Mcgonagall. Yes.
- 37:24Eight-year, 150 million bones contract starts next year.
- 37:33I think I said it before, this guy just looks like a ball
- 37:36player. Sure does.
- 37:39And I'm excited about this. And I, I, I, I'm pretty sure
- 37:45I've said this before. I don't know why contract
- 37:49contracts like this are being labeled as risks, $150 million
- 37:57for a guy that if you have any sense in your, your scouting,
- 38:03your talent, talent evaluation, even if he's not a superstar,
- 38:07$150 million for a guy to stick around for eight years.
- 38:12I, I, there's you, you cannot call that a risk.
- 38:15You can't label that a risk. I mean, I'm with it.
- 38:20If anything you break, you come out of that having broken even
- 38:24that right, I mean. And then, if you get lucky, he
- 38:28blossoms into a stud. For sure, because like if you
- 38:31look at the, you know, if you look at like the Atlanta Braves
- 38:35with Ozzy Alby's, you know what I mean?
- 38:36Like a couple good years, but then like, you know, some injury
- 38:39stuff and like some things that haven't panned out all the way.
- 38:42But like overall you're, I don't, it's not out of budget,
- 38:47you know what I mean? Like you're OK with what you
- 38:49spent during that chapter and you kind of just, it sucks how
- 38:55it's going to end or what do you maybe get moving forward?
- 38:58But I like that it it kind of it starts to build around youth a
- 39:05little bit more versus waiting for this like entering into
- 39:10prime and then all of a sudden he's a year from being a free
- 39:13agent. You know what I mean?
- 39:14You can't build around that because he's likely going to go
- 39:17to free agency. So when you recognize and and
- 39:20the the fact that all these organizations are like pouring
- 39:23into scouting and development and recognizing talent earlier,
- 39:27getting these guys on the field earlier, putting them at the top
- 39:31of the lineup, playing shortstop role every day, almost like that
- 39:36allows you to start to get an idea of what you want to do.
- 39:4159187 By the way, love that short King in Detroit.
- 39:50They kind of got a type. I feel like him, Colt Keith and
- 39:53Carrie Carpenter are like all the same person.
- 39:56Is Carrie Carpenter short king? I think he is.
- 39:59Let me see. How do I feel like he's not?
- 40:01How do I feel? Like he's 661.
- 40:02I was. Going to say I was going to say
- 40:03yeah. He's just kind of squatted down.
- 40:06He's in the box I guess, But still like the white guy that is
- 40:12throw throws right, hits left. Probably should be a second
- 40:15baseman. Yeah, Cole Keith, 62211.
- 40:21Well, well, I mean, for every, every Ellie de la Cruz and
- 40:27Carlos Correa, you got to have a Kevin Mcgonigal, you know, like.
- 40:31Yeah. We can't go 100% into the north
- 40:35of 6th 3 territory for the shortstops.
- 40:37We got to send some short kings. The other thing to look at, I'm
- 40:41scrolling through the stats for the Tigers team leaders.
- 40:44Kevin Mcgonnell Batting average of 312.
- 40:49Kevin Mcgonigal, OBP 421 hits Devin Mcgonigal 20 guys balling
- 40:58immediately. Freaking stud man.
- 41:03More walks than strikeouts. Yeah, I love that.
- 41:06Like he's a, he's a total complete player.
- 41:09The Ozzy Alby's comp is a little strange, though.
- 41:13I mean, that guy's not making more than $7,000,000 in a
- 41:15season. What was that?
- 41:17You mentioned the Aldi's contract.
- 41:19What was the what was that contract, JB?
- 41:21It was more like 770 was. It it was 735.
- 41:26Oh, maybe Was it a kunya? That was more like 7.
- 41:29Acunya was a little bit more. 770.
- 41:35Yeah, 7:00. 35 eight years, 100 for Acuna.
- 41:42OK see that's more of the mindset I had, but I just got it
- 41:46wrong. When is that contract?
- 41:47But still, but still you're talking about you're never
- 41:51hitting the $20 million mark. Yeah.
- 41:54Like I think it tops out at at 17,000,000 on the two options
- 41:58for 27 and 28 are club options. So he could be a free agent in
- 42:0827. It's not going to be they're
- 42:10going to pick up the club option for 17,000,000.
- 42:13There's no doubt. But but when I mean when you
- 42:17look at the numbers of, of what Mcgonagall, I mean, I haven't
- 42:20seen the breakdown of Mcgonagall, but the the
- 42:22breakdown of, of Connor Griffin's just came out and
- 42:26obviously he got 10 more million.
- 42:29You're a pirate. He's still getting, I think like
- 42:3212 signing bonus and, and whatever.
- 42:35But so the interesting thing of this is Mcgonigal and and
- 42:39Griffin, they're signed through the same season.
- 42:42Griffin's was nine years, Mcgonigal's was eight years.
- 42:45Mcgonigal signed his contract for the Tigers, signed him to
- 42:49the contract on basically the day that that meant the
- 42:53extension was applied to next year.
- 42:56Yeah, you get 21 days from the beginning of of the of the
- 43:00season if you can. If you sign before that, it can
- 43:03apply to the current season. If you sign after that, then it
- 43:06has it goes on to next year. You can't sign it for this year.
- 43:09So his is 8 years, but it doesn't start till next year.
- 43:13Griffin's was early enough that they could apply.
- 43:15He's got a $1 million contract this year, you know what I mean?
- 43:19That goes to four and then six and then but like at the at the
- 43:23height of that it's 27 million so.
- 43:27That's a lot of money. That's a lot of money and there
- 43:29is risk right there still 140 million and 150 million for
- 43:34these guys and is still risk on the they could get hurt and
- 43:39never play again and you're going to pay, you know what I
- 43:42mean, you're going to pay that 27 million to the player.
- 43:45So, and that's, I mean, Tigers may be a little more well off
- 43:53than than Pittsburgh, but that 27,000,000 if, if they don't
- 43:56have a player for that, it's crippling.
- 43:58I just, I, I like the aspect of the of like the confidence boost
- 44:03that it gives, like right off the RIP.
- 44:06Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, this isn't July.
- 44:10This is, we're three weeks into the season and we're like, yeah,
- 44:15we don't even, we don't even have enough of a sample size.
- 44:18But we believe in you. And how much is that going to do
- 44:21for these these guys that are, you know, like it's got to be a
- 44:25little bit weird. It's got to be, you know, that
- 44:28come up it and maybe I have a slow start.
- 44:30Maybe I'd like, do I get sent back down?
- 44:33Do like, you know, like all of those conversations.
- 44:36But it's just for the organization to believe in you
- 44:40immediately, basically still in your debut phase.
- 44:45It's pretty cool. I'm a fan of it.
- 44:49They're in fields a little. Weird though, by the way, the
- 44:51Detroit Tigers infield is strange to me.
- 44:55I don't really know what to think of it because I think he's
- 45:02a second baseman. I don't think, I mean, I don't
- 45:04think he's a long term shortstop.
- 45:06I think he's a second baseman. So in the Colt, Keith, I think
- 45:10is looked pretty good offensively to start, but that
- 45:15you know, like the Glaber mix. I just, I'd like to see how that
- 45:22infield progresses during the length of this Mcgonigal era.
- 45:30Yep, Cole Keith also on a a early contract like he signed
- 45:37long term as well. Colt, Emerson, Cooper Pratt.
- 45:44Super Pratt and that's it and that's more of the Colt Keith
- 45:47variety. Colt Keith's was six years, 28
- 45:50million. So I mean again, signed through
- 45:5629 at no more than 5 million and then the club options are 1013
- 46:01and 15 in the next three years. So also affordable, but like
- 46:05those are the kind of guys that that can just be those
- 46:10supporting players and and just lock them up, don't have to
- 46:12worry about going through arbitration and all those
- 46:14things. These things are valuable for
- 46:16for clubs and players alike. Those I like and that's that's
- 46:19more the Aussie contract. But yeah, I like that.
- 46:22It's like you you don't have to feel overly committed to him
- 46:26being a starter everyday if it like if they're scuffle.
- 46:30And if they turn into something bonus, you know what I'm saying?
- 46:33If they light it up so, but as far as KG and and and Mcgonigal
- 46:38go, I mean this is prospects one and two.
- 46:39These guys are, we're not doubting much for these guys do.
- 46:45You have any Mcgonigal card? I don't, I don't disappointed.
- 46:54That's my I'm. JP couldn't help but just loop
- 46:58KG into that conversation. He's like, yeah, you know, it's
- 47:04fair. We're talking Mcgonigal, we're
- 47:06talking Connor Griffin, naturally.
- 47:08So let's let's dive into it a little.
- 47:09More No, it's a good call. It's hey, it's it's one and. 2
- 47:13Mcgonigal. Bonnie.
- 47:14Mcgonigal just broke Connor Griffin's record of of the
- 47:18contract for these young for the rookies.
- 47:21So yeah, it's he's very much a part of this, and he's won, and
- 47:24Mcgonagall's too, so take that. Suck it, Casey.
- 47:28You know, if you know who might break the all time contract
- 47:32record of any player ever if he keeps playing the way he's going
- 47:36to the way he's playing right now.
- 47:46I don't know who. Jordan Walker, the return of the
- 47:54credit can and Jordan Walker, our first candidate.
- 48:02What's happening here? What's something doesn't?
- 48:06Something doesn't smell right. Don't mean to interrupt.
- 48:09I may have gotten catfished on social media because Manny
- 48:12Machado is wearing 42. Oh.
- 48:16We spent almost 10 minutes. Look it up man.
- 48:22You got? Are the quotes at least real?
- 48:24This Oh my you. What platform did you see it?
- 48:30What platform did you see it on? Instagram.
- 48:34Do we have to start over? No, you know what?
- 48:37You know what? He's getting muted.
- 48:41Yeah, that's right. Yeah, you sit and think about
- 48:46what you did. Holy cow.
- 48:49Now I got to confirm. I was like, there's no way you
- 48:53would say that on Jackie Robinson Day.
- 48:56Yeah, holy. Let's see.
- 48:59Yeah, I'm probably going to. Well, he.
- 49:00Still might, still might even said it, but still just wearing
- 49:03it. I'm going to search Machado 42
- 49:05and he's going to be like, I've never been more proud to wear
- 49:08the blue 42 than I than I am today.
- 49:12Dude, we oh. No.
- 49:17We spent way too long talking about that.
- 49:24Oh my gosh. All right, That's that's long
- 49:31enough. I guess.
- 49:32I don't know. That what MOB facts that's
- 49:36that's the one. No way MOB, it was.
- 49:41Even like a fake reporter it was MOB.
- 49:44The one that looks like Fox. That's the one, Padres.
- 49:49Like Padres region account that was like Co tagged on it.
- 49:54Oh, it's Jackie Robinson Day. Not everyone being oh, I thought
- 50:04you were better than that. It's tough, man.
- 50:07It's no wonder. We did numbers.
- 50:08It's in white. Oh my gosh.
- 50:12OK, well. That remains.
- 50:15No, it quite literally I. Like the old 40 twos?
- 50:19It invalidates the 1st 10 minutes of this podcast anyway.
- 50:25It's not a real podcast, Jordan Walker.
- 50:33Jordan Walker, What's going? I something, something,
- 50:36something's not passing the smell test.
- 50:38I I said this on our Sunday clubhouse.
- 50:41You don't. Well, at the time I think you
- 50:44had. Six You think he's doing
- 50:45steroids? No, yes, no.
- 50:49All I said was you don't play a full season or for his
- 50:53standards. You don't play a full season,
- 50:55have 6 homers, and then I have 6 homers by Week 2 the next year.
- 51:01That's the whole point of why they're sticking with him was
- 51:05because of this power. That's his, it fits his profile.
- 51:10It's not like he's he just spent.
- 51:12It's not like he pulled a Trent Grisham and went like 8 years in
- 51:15the league hitting two home runs and then pops off for 30.
- 51:22Or Joe Adele, What do you hit 37?
- 51:27I'm not a Joe adult. We know, We know.
- 51:32You're also not a check your sources guy either apparently.
- 51:34That's a tough look. That's a tough look.
- 51:37The hand goes up. You can't.
- 51:39The hand goes up. The mute.
- 51:41I've served my. I've served my time.
- 51:43No, I know. But you know, sometimes when
- 51:45you're a kid and you messed up and you were accountable, you
- 51:48still got sent to time out. You still got, you know.
- 51:52Yeah. What's the word I'm thinking of?
- 51:56Grounded. You still got grounded.
- 51:58I don't know, This is why. This is why TikTok is king for
- 52:01me. Oh yeah, super reliable source.
- 52:05Way better than these stupid. Instagram sucks, Facebook sucks.
- 52:09You know how many fake? Facebook's the worst.
- 52:12Facebook's the worst. With fake ones just like AI
- 52:14accounts all over the place. The the people in like comments
- 52:17eat it up. They're like like Xander Bogarts
- 52:23hates Muslims. Well, I'm out.
- 52:27You'll never see me watching a Padres game again.
- 52:30Please. Do please do not make that out
- 52:33of context clip on that on that ex.
- 52:38Account. Please do not, we will get
- 52:40cancelled. Anyway, yeah, Jordan Walker.
- 52:45I don't know what he what he's putting in his Wheaties, but
- 52:48something's working. That's huge.
- 52:51Coming in today leads all of baseball.
- 52:53He's 66250 according to B ref coming in today leads all of
- 52:57baseball with eight homers. OPS north of north of 1000.
- 53:01As you would expect, it's already it's already posted a
- 53:05WAR of 1 1/2 and we're only three weeks into the season.
- 53:08Love that. That's nice.
- 53:10I think this is a classic example of a player who was
- 53:15probably just rushed to the majors, 16 homers his rookie
- 53:22year, but they didn't really know if he was outfield, third
- 53:25base. They couldn't really figure it
- 53:27out #4 prospect. They Yep, sent him down, called
- 53:31him up. They kept doing that.
- 53:34I he's only 23. He's at the age where he he
- 53:38should really be kind of figuring this out and getting
- 53:42close to it, maybe a little ahead of the curve for guys big
- 53:45like that. There's a lot of times it it
- 53:47takes a little bit longer at what was what was Judge's first
- 53:50like breakout season at 25. I think he's.
- 53:53Like 3027. Was it 27?
- 53:56I thought Judge was a little bit.
- 53:58He's old man, I think. It was like last year, but like
- 54:02we're. Still waiting on.
- 54:03We're still waiting on like O'Neill Cruz.
- 54:05I mean, not saying he's going to be anything like that, but
- 54:07waiting for him to judge was 25 in 2017.
- 54:11He had 52 home runs. He was 25 the year he broke out.
- 54:18Let's start. Kevin Mcgonigal.
- 54:19Yeah. So anyway, Conor Griffin, shout
- 54:23out to my guy. Jordan Walker, Credit Candid.
- 54:26Yeah. So O'Neill Cruz, we're waiting
- 54:29on this guy. We're just calling out tall
- 54:32guys, man. Yeah, and then who happened to
- 54:35wear the black and gold? Aaron Judge.
- 54:39Rodeo Cruz. He's.
- 54:41Also 6. 7 and up go hand up. Look, we're all we've all made
- 54:44mistakes. I don't think that that's speak
- 54:47for yourself not. Yeah, I'm not.
- 54:50There, I'm not there. I'm talking about tall guys with
- 54:53the long swings take longer to happen, take longer to to
- 54:57develop. Sometimes I think Jordan
- 54:59Walker's actually doing pretty well if he's going to break out
- 55:02of 23 James Wood style, right? I mean, how old's James Wood?
- 55:06He's older. He's younger.
- 55:09My guy. We're still talking about the
- 55:11tall guys, right? 66.
- 55:17He broke out last year at 22. I'm saying I, I think Jordan
- 55:24Walker might be a little bit on time here or early if.
- 55:27Yeah, no, that's a good point though about a guy maybe be in a
- 55:30rush because I feel like we've in even in just the last, call
- 55:33it half decade, I feel like we've seen a number of these
- 55:35guys that do get rushed up and then they they just they just
- 55:40don't recover right away. But maybe this is a case, you
- 55:43know, where maybe guy does bounce back the right away the
- 55:48next year anyway, A guy that hasn't really fallen off nor
- 55:55needed a bounce back. My guy, Mason Miller, holy
- 56:05smokes. Have you guys seen what Mason
- 56:10Miller is doing to start this year?
- 56:14Talk to me. Well, first I want to share this
- 56:19nugget that I saw earlier today and I'm 99% sure it's it's
- 56:23accurate. Padres traded for Mason Miller
- 56:26on July 31st last year. He's given up two earned runs
- 56:32since this. This season, he has faced 27
- 56:43batters, 20 of them have been retired via the strikeout.
- 56:50Punchy. Yeah.
- 56:55Question is this going to be, is this going to be a name that we
- 57:02see in the Cy Young conversation?
- 57:06I mean, if this continues, there's no way it isn't.
- 57:09I mean, because you remember how how heavily we were talking
- 57:12Emmanuel Klaasse, what was I was?
- 57:14Going to ask 20, was he finished in that voting?
- 57:16Was that 20? Four he was. 24 I think.
- 57:21He was third. And 24 yeah.
- 57:26And I think people, some people were even making the argument
- 57:28that he could have been second because that would have been
- 57:34that was. Scubal and then Seth Lugo.
- 57:36Seth Lugo, Right. And then the last year was
- 57:39crochet or scubal crochet. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:42So people were like Seth Lugo. Look at what Amanda Cosey's
- 57:45doing. Got Seth Lugo on the squad.
- 57:47Yeah, I bet. But yeah, man, what what Mason
- 57:52Miller is doing is absolutely insane.
- 57:55Like throwing shutter 0 Hope as a hitter, when you step into the
- 58:01end of the box you're getting one O 3.
- 58:05Yeah, like an 88 mile an hour slider or whatever.
- 58:11Just stupid. Gross. 21.6 strikeouts per night
- 58:16it's. Pretty good.
- 58:21Well, I mean, if, if if you look at the numbers I just shared,
- 58:24Mason Miller. Cannon on them.
- 58:26Yes, I'll do it again. For how good he's been to this
- 58:32point in the season, Mason Miller has thrown a complete
- 58:35game. And oh, by the way, it was a 20
- 58:39strikeout game. That's a good way to look at it.
- 58:48That's a good way to look at it. That's crazy.
- 58:50Yeah, what a monster. Insane.
- 58:56You know who else has been a monster?
- 58:59Unless you all had any other thoughts on Mason Miller here?
- 59:01We go do. You want me to do it?
- 59:05If you make a comparison to Santana or somebody in the back
- 59:09end of the Pirates bullpen, I'm going to.
- 59:11Blow. Up.
- 59:13I don't listen. I don't have to because Mason
- 59:16Miller's from Pittsburgh. I'll give you that.
- 59:20I'll give you that. He's a yinzer.
- 59:22I'll, I'll let that slide. I'll let that slide, Yeah.
- 59:27Born August 24th, 98 in Pittsburgh, PA.
- 59:31In that Andy Bahas. Yeah.
- 59:42Where did this come from? Knew it was in there, man.
- 59:48Yeah. Did we though?
- 59:49We did. Did we?
- 59:51I feel like we're rewriting history a little bit.
- 59:54No, we knew it was in there. I don't know who we.
- 59:57Is the amount of opportunities that guy's gotten in that lineup
- 1:00:01day in, day out in the postseason, It was coming.
- 1:00:06Coming into today, 5 homers, he's hitting 39720 RBIs.
- 1:00:13Crazy. On base of 433 slugging, 698 OPS
- 1:00:18of 1131 and an OPS plus of 219. Pretty good third and base third
- 1:00:31and all of baseball and OPS behind Jordan Alvarez and Ben
- 1:00:38Rice. I don't like the way you said
- 1:00:41that there was a tone there and you know there was a.
- 1:00:45Tone, I mean, doesn't count. Ben Rice, I feel like has played
- 1:00:48like what, four games this year? Cause 'cause Boone doesn't know
- 1:00:52how to construct a lineup. You.
- 1:00:54Are MLB the facts or MLB facts? That's that's probably your
- 1:00:59account just out there spreading false.
- 1:01:02Yeah, I set you up for wasting my time on this podcast, like in
- 1:01:0610 minutes about a quote that was never shared.
- 1:01:11But yeah, that's Andy Paw has. He has he has 18 plate
- 1:01:15appearances with runners in scoring position already this
- 1:01:19season. He's he's 9 for 18 with three
- 1:01:24homers and 16 RBIs in those in those situations, it's it's a
- 1:01:29667 Babbitt. It's ridiculous.
- 1:01:31Yeah, but yeah, I mean, it's certainly it.
- 1:01:35It certainly benefits you as a player to be surrounded by the
- 1:01:38rest of the Dodgers lineup. However, if you're not one of
- 1:01:44those established perennial MVP candidates, I feel like that'd
- 1:01:48be a lot of pressure to bear on your shoulders, like having to
- 1:01:54having to keep up with with, you know, the mookies and the
- 1:01:58Freddy's of the world and the show haze like.
- 1:02:02Keeping up with the mookies. That'd be, you know, that'd be a
- 1:02:06tall, that'd be a tall order. But he's to the, I mean, again,
- 1:02:09I know it's early, but he's, he's delivering, he's answering
- 1:02:12the call. I mean, he's hitting.
- 1:02:14I'm not, I'm not, I'm not arguing against Paws, right?
- 1:02:18But there is, there are some things here.
- 1:02:20He's hitting 7-8 in that lineup. I mean, just look at.
- 1:02:23Brandon, I'm not, I'm not walking Andy Paws.
- 1:02:26Just kidding. In any scenario when I'm when
- 1:02:30you're about to flip the line up over to Shohei like he's going
- 1:02:34to have to beat me. And so far he is 55.
- 1:02:41What is it? Five O 3, No 500, even 500 even
- 1:02:46batting average on balls in play right now.
- 1:02:50Obviously, like league averages around 300.
- 1:02:52That will almost always swing back.
- 1:02:57He's he's killing it. That's those are crazy numbers.
- 1:03:00But we're saying the same thing though, because to your point,
- 1:03:03like he's not going to get walks to flip the lineup over or
- 1:03:07whatever the situation may be, which is to the point that I
- 1:03:11said it benefits you to, to be in that lineup.
- 1:03:13Of course. However, if you're going to get
- 1:03:17pitched to 99% of the time you're going to have to do
- 1:03:22something with the at bat and that that's what he's doing.
- 1:03:26So that's what I'm saying. I feel like in a in a situation
- 1:03:28like in in a situation like his where you're not quite the
- 1:03:32Mookie, the Freddy, the show, hey, what have you, it could be
- 1:03:36easy maybe to sort of get, you know, overshadowed a little bit.
- 1:03:40But he's he's he's joining the party for sure.
- 1:03:45Moving right along here. Ben Rice leading all of baseball
- 1:03:55with a 1245 OPS coming into today.
- 1:04:02Nate thoughts awfully quiet. We didn't hear the I want to
- 1:04:07hear, I want to hear it. Don't do it.
- 1:04:11What did you not hear? I mean, are we doing the credit
- 1:04:14cannon or what? I don't know which one changes
- 1:04:20the volume of the sound board. OK, here I found this is.
- 1:04:26Worthy of a mute. I found it.
- 1:04:28No, I found it. I found it.
- 1:04:29This is worthy of a mute. Nada.
- 1:04:36I hit it. Worthy.
- 1:04:38Turn it all the way down all. Right.
- 1:04:40Hold on. Worthy of a mute.
- 1:04:43This is disrespectful. Ben Rice.
- 1:04:45Disrespectful disrespectful. I tried telling you guys this
- 1:04:51was in here. If you look at the.
- 1:04:54Baseball savant, Just the believer in everybody today.
- 1:04:57The baseball savant page, dude, the guy they showed it today
- 1:05:02that it's 100th or 99th percentile on exit, Velo on
- 1:05:07barrel. Just like the guy hits the ball
- 1:05:10hard. What do you want?
- 1:05:14I, I think I just stumbled upon a revelation.
- 1:05:18I think that's the problem tonight.
- 1:05:20You are. You're just a believer in
- 1:05:21everybody, so much so that you're believing in.
- 1:05:26You got there, you arrived there.
- 1:05:28Thanks. Jackson Merrill have robbed home
- 1:05:30run, by the way. I feel like he's robbing home
- 1:05:31run once a week. Shortstop is just real, real
- 1:05:39good at the top of the line up. Also ranking really high.
- 1:05:44I think he's got like a 22 or 23% walk rate at the moment.
- 1:05:48So terrible at ABS challenges. That's my only knock.
- 1:05:52Just really not good with the ABS but everything else looks
- 1:05:57good. I like it and looked I'm
- 1:05:59actually like surprised how well he's looked at at first base.
- 1:06:03I was expecting a lot worse. You'll be proud of me.
- 1:06:06I don't. I doubt you saw it, but I I
- 1:06:12quote tweeted talking Yanks today.
- 1:06:15This was this was the tweet. This was the tweet from
- 1:06:18yesterday when I said Aaron, Aaron Boone tells us Paul
- 1:06:20Goldschmidt will start over Ben race once again tonight against
- 1:06:23left-handed pitcher Reed Detmer's.
- 1:06:26To which I quote tweeted and I said I dream of a version of
- 1:06:29baseball where the best nine players play all the time,
- 1:06:32regardless what side of the plate they bat from, what arm
- 1:06:35they throw with or who's pitching to them.
- 1:06:38Yeah. And I feel like I've said that
- 1:06:40in in a variety of different ways.
- 1:06:42But the root of that is something that I stand by the
- 1:06:45root of that and believe. In being an idiot and I'm pretty
- 1:06:49sure Reed Detmer, he diced by the way Reed Detmer's carved
- 1:06:52them up and I think he's a reverse split guy.
- 1:06:56JB, correct me if I'm wrong on that.
- 1:07:00And it showed he also in that lineup was Cody Bellinger
- 1:07:06sitting. I think we had another name
- 1:07:12sitting, someone else said, It's just like, I don't understand
- 1:07:15that. Moving on, That's not what this
- 1:07:17segment's about. Are you asking Reed Detmer's?
- 1:07:20Yeah, splits. OK.
- 1:07:23No, you're right. This is not what this segment's
- 1:07:26about. You know what this segment is
- 1:07:27about? Brandon Lau JB, talk to us about
- 1:07:43Brandon Lau. It's like I I want to hear what
- 1:07:48you have to say about Brandon Lau.
- 1:07:50I I put his name. Double wind bombs in Chicago.
- 1:07:54Sorry, that was. Disrespectful.
- 1:07:56Didn't I feel like? One of them, One of them was.
- 1:07:58What is OK, that doesn't account for the the six other homers,
- 1:08:03right, that he's gotten this year?
- 1:08:07Yeah, Explain that one, Nate. Guy looks good.
- 1:08:11I don't really appreciate the Brandon Laos Lander this.
- 1:08:17This is what you trade for, right?
- 1:08:19He's got to figure out a way to get on base else otherwise.
- 1:08:25Does he? He had 397 on base.
- 1:08:31Or no, I'm sorry, not on base the average.
- 1:08:33The average could use some work. Disrespect I I don't it's 397 on
- 1:08:38base. I don't care about your batting
- 1:08:40average. If you're getting on base,
- 1:08:41you're getting on base I. Guess, I guess.
- 1:08:43But to have 7 homers? 15 Risk 68.
- 1:08:47I know it's just those numbers just don't really align well in
- 1:08:52my in my soul. What is league average?
- 1:08:55Average. That's, I mean it obviously it
- 1:08:58moves it's. Hard to ask but at this point.
- 1:09:00Right. Like say last year, what was
- 1:09:03what was like 250? If I just look at teams like
- 1:09:11kind of middle of the pack, yeah, it's a little bit less
- 1:09:13than that. The the Brewers were 15th at a
- 1:09:17237, the Arizona Diamondbacks 14th at 2:38.
- 1:09:22I outresearched JB. According to Google, the league
- 1:09:25average for 2025 across all of baseball was 246.
- 1:09:30Yeah, that sounds. Right. 22 points higher.
- 1:09:35You said 268, right? Yeah, 2. 68 I mean his two
- 1:09:38seasons where he hit 39 and 31 home runs, he was 247 and 256.
- 1:09:45Obviously the the one year much better than the than last year.
- 1:09:50But no, I mean, get on base. I you're a one daughter right
- 1:09:54now, dude. I, I, I don't care.
- 1:09:56I don't care if you're in 200, if you're if your OPS is A1 dot
- 1:09:59you're you're fine. Wow, that's not a tech I thought
- 1:10:03I'd hear from JB. Is that, is that like there are
- 1:10:07multiple ways of getting on base, Batting average is one of
- 1:10:10them. So like I, I love a high batting
- 1:10:13average, but if you have, if you have a guy with a 299 average
- 1:10:18and another guy with a 246 average and the guy with a 246
- 1:10:22average has a higher on base percentage, is that means he's
- 1:10:24on base more often and that's more valuable to your team.
- 1:10:28Hey, I hear you. I'm not.
- 1:10:30The you know. The batting average hill is not
- 1:10:32one I'm necessarily willing to die on.
- 1:10:34I just, you know, I look, I, I, I don't need to be crucified.
- 1:10:38All I said is I just thought I could use some work like.
- 1:10:42I thought it was unfair. Get me up into the 8:00 today,
- 1:10:45get me up into the two 80s with 7 bombs.
- 1:10:48At this stage of season, I'm feeling a lot better.
- 1:10:50That's all. It was insane.
- 1:10:51You had to hit 390. That's all I'm saying.
- 1:10:57Yeah, you're. You're fine, you're fine.
- 1:10:59What's Connor Griffin hitting? Not, not near that.
- 1:11:03Yeah. I mean, these are the questions
- 1:11:04we really need to be asking. He's fine.
- 1:11:08What's Speaking of average? What's Marcel Ozuna hitting
- 1:11:11right now? Hey, but Ozuna and I'm not, I'm
- 1:11:15not sitting here like trying to defend guys, right?
- 1:11:17But Ozuna's got some A swings off lately.
- 1:11:20Let's let's play that game. Who has a a batter?
- 1:11:23A Betty? Better batting average at the
- 1:11:26moment right now, Marcel Ozuna or Ryan McMahon.
- 1:11:31Oh, I think I'm. Going to give the slight edge
- 1:11:36to. Ozuna.
- 1:11:38I might, yeah. I might have to go Ozuna.
- 1:11:41It's going to be close. So I I had.
- 1:11:47I mean, it's the margins got to be razor thin.
- 1:11:52No disrespect. Some, some some Ozuna from the
- 1:11:57Braves on the Pirates. From the Pirates, Ozuna
- 1:12:02currently at 1:18. Wow, he's north of 1.
- 1:12:09Way higher. Way higher.
- 1:12:11And here Guy McMahon at 119. Razor thin.
- 1:12:20Razor thin, but McMahon destroying him in in on base 260
- 1:12:27to to one Oh I. Love it.
- 1:12:32I mean, it doesn't get much more razor thin than that.
- 1:12:35Yeah, Ozuna, five hits, five hits in his last or four hits in
- 1:12:39his last three games. It it's starting to come around
- 1:12:42a little bit. I think again, when you're
- 1:12:44talking about a guy like that kind of known commodity, you
- 1:12:49know what you're going to get from him.
- 1:12:54You know what you're talking about him.
- 1:12:57Yeah, You know what you're going to get from Nate when we bring
- 1:13:00up the whole Kimberly Otani thing, and that's just outright
- 1:13:04rage. What's talk to me?
- 1:13:06What if you don't know? If you don't know?
- 1:13:08No, no, no, no, no, no, Hold on. I'm going to lay the groundwork.
- 1:13:11If you don't know what we're talking about, there was.
- 1:13:13Everyone knows. There was there was a moment.
- 1:13:16There was a moment from the game on.
- 1:13:18I believe it was a Monday night where Craig Kimbrell for the New
- 1:13:25York Mets. I mean, how much longer does
- 1:13:28this? Go on.
- 1:13:29Yeah, that's that's its own story.
- 1:13:31Craig Kimbrell of the New York Mets is just not looking home,
- 1:13:37goes to throw. Meanwhile, Francisco Alvarez
- 1:13:40runs out in front of home plate. Be like yo-yo, yo, don't throw
- 1:13:44the ball. Meanwhile, Otani just has the
- 1:13:50biggest look on his face as if he's just seen a ghost.
- 1:13:54I think the umpire dips out. Just madness.
- 1:13:58Anyway, some accounts have posted about it, but Nate.
- 1:14:02Some has it was ever I was. I was scrolling through
- 1:14:09Instagram for 30 straight seconds.
- 1:14:12It was every single baseball page posted about it.
- 1:14:16MLB Facts. Number one was MLB.
- 1:14:19Fax at the top of the page. They got that one right.
- 1:14:23It was all over the place. It was just like what?
- 1:14:26What? This isn't a thing.
- 1:14:27Who cares? And Wing.
- 1:14:30And with that post on MLB fax, there was a quote at the bottom
- 1:14:33that said Ohtani was quoted saying that he slept with
- 1:14:37Kimbrel's mom. And Nate was like what I bought.
- 1:14:43It. Yeah, I bought it.
- 1:14:45I don't. Know I mean why no one's talking
- 1:14:48about the Orioles manager getting hit with the ugly Finder
- 1:14:51and breaking his jaw, but I see 12 different posts.
- 1:14:55Baller, by the way, he was right back out, wasn't he?
- 1:14:57Saw like 12 different posts on the Otani thing so that was
- 1:15:00stupid and annoying but it's like it not getting posted that
- 1:15:06it was not. It wasn't point of reason right
- 1:15:10there. Oh yeah, yeah, the guy that
- 1:15:12brings up the pirates every segment.
- 1:15:13Yeah, that's the voice of reason, anyway.
- 1:15:15He's not a pirate song. So I trust him.
- 1:15:19JB is JB is scanning, scanning post events, being like who was
- 1:15:25a pirate that almost got thrown out in the box.
- 1:15:30No, no, what I was going to say is it's an objectively funny
- 1:15:35moment. You plug in, you plug in Corey
- 1:15:40Seeger, you plug in No Cal Raleigh, and that has the same
- 1:15:45reaction. It's still just as funny.
- 1:15:50It wasn't anything. I think I think you could play
- 1:15:52on big dumper on that. I think I think you could go
- 1:15:55there Kyle or Kyle Seeger, Corey Seeger.
- 1:15:58No way, no it it is because it's Otani, but I actually.
- 1:16:04Why am I wasting my time? This happened three days ago.
- 1:16:07It was a no pitch. There's people stepping
- 1:16:10out-of-the-box and we're talking about it three days later.
- 1:16:12This at least was real life and it really happened on like the
- 1:16:151st 10 minutes of this podcast anyway, but it.
- 1:16:18Sparked great conversation. Yeah, talking about how?
- 1:16:25No, whatever, whatever. Freaking which is why it's worth
- 1:16:29it for people to to post it so much if it is Otani.
- 1:16:33The truth is that's what gets clicks.
- 1:16:36That's what gets conversation. So yes, I agree with you Nate.
- 1:16:40However, I kept. Scrolling.
- 1:16:42If it grows the game, I I'm for it.
- 1:16:45Unbelievable. Anyway, let's game.
- 1:16:47Let's wrap up Mike Campbell when he's retired.
- 1:16:50That's how I'm going to end that conversation.
- 1:16:51That's another layer that made it funny.
- 1:16:53Is the fact that he's at the the crux of all of this anyway?
- 1:17:06Marez, question of the week. Nice.
- 1:17:09No prep on this. This is, yeah.
- 1:17:12Let's see, that's on me. I was in an all you can eat trip
- 1:17:16night tonight and I, I. Just I I had comments about that
- 1:17:20plate. I don't know if you saw it freak
- 1:17:22me out. Keep going.
- 1:17:24The plate needs to be studied. I'm an adult, I can eat food
- 1:17:30that touches like what are you 3?
- 1:17:34No Sir, you only eat chicken tenders most of the time.
- 1:17:38Second of all. Because I like chicken tenders.
- 1:17:40Your cantaloupe was swimming in in baked bean sauce and you're
- 1:17:44telling me that food's allowed to touch?
- 1:17:47That's not the same. It's not like your burger bun
- 1:17:51accidentally touched the dollop of ketchup.
- 1:17:54This was. I wasn't there hanging out with
- 1:17:57baked beans. I wasn't there to worry myself.
- 1:18:03The the lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of
- 1:18:08fruit. Swimming in baked beans.
- 1:18:11Okay. I was there for one mission.
- 1:18:13It was to eat fried shrimp until it was coming out of my eye
- 1:18:18sock. Not in the group chat.
- 1:18:19Let's just wow, let's out them wow that's Oh yeah, really some
- 1:18:24women's that's really fake women's get out of here man
- 1:18:28just. The alignment is so questionable
- 1:18:32like whatever, just I just, I don't appreciate it.
- 1:18:37Shrimp does look good though. Oh, it's.
- 1:18:39Slap, dude. Anyway, Ray's question of the
- 1:18:43week. Just a pasta noodle sitting on a
- 1:18:45strawberry there. Like what do we do?
- 1:18:47It's. Terrible.
- 1:18:54Oh, man. Yeah, it shows you how dialled I
- 1:18:57was on the shrimp I wasn't paying attention to.
- 1:18:59No pasta, macaroni salad, strawberries.
- 1:19:03Anyway, Ray's Question of the Week Game 7 World Series.
- 1:19:08OK, set in the scene here, game seven of the World Series, a
- 1:19:13perfect game is being thrown. Would you rather be the center
- 1:19:19fielder to make the crazy diving catch to win a 1 nothing game,
- 1:19:25win the whole thing? Or that same perfect game is
- 1:19:30being thrown, but you're on the other side and you hit the home
- 1:19:35run to win the game. Home.
- 1:19:40Presumably 1 Nothing. I think I I think I want it to
- 1:19:43be the. But I'll be.
- 1:19:45Historical if you're in Santa, yeah.
- 1:19:49And it's like you were played your highlights played forever
- 1:19:54like wise in in Chicago, you know, like that was sick.
- 1:19:59Yeah. What?
- 1:20:00Who? Dwayne.
- 1:20:02Dwayne Wise. The.
- 1:20:04Chicago The home run robbery, The Mark Burley.
- 1:20:09Yeah, come on guy. That's what I'm saying is that
- 1:20:11like I think if you make a play like that, if.
- 1:20:14You talk about Burley's perfect game.
- 1:20:15You replay. It's like, yeah, the replay.
- 1:20:18Is fit, Yeah, No, I I hear what you're saying.
- 1:20:20You're you're looking at through the lens of the perfect game.
- 1:20:22I've I was looking at through the lens of the world game seven
- 1:20:24of the World Series, where, yeah, I feel like your
- 1:20:26highlights get getting played. But it is game seven either way.
- 1:20:29Winning. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:20:30The World Series either way. The World Series aspect of it is
- 1:20:34awash for me. You're winning the World Series.
- 1:20:36It's the last play of the World Series.
- 1:20:37Yeah, I'm going to go. To centerfield.
- 1:20:40To me, it's Centerfield. I think that Game 7, the World
- 1:20:43Series perfect game, has to be bigger than.
- 1:20:46I mean, I don't know. You're also talking about
- 1:20:48there's only been one game. I can't say it.
- 1:20:51I'm not allowed to say it. You guys have to say it.
- 1:20:53I can't say it. Touch a ball, Joe, you'll never
- 1:20:55hit a bigger home run in your life.
- 1:20:57Game 6. I'm not talking about games, I'm
- 1:21:00talking about a Homer to win the World Series.
- 1:21:02Because it's Maslowski. Yeah.
- 1:21:06Greatest home run ever hit. Well, I don't know about that.
- 1:21:10You. Can't.
- 1:21:10That's undeniable. I mean, Jared Duran off home
- 1:21:14run. Jared Duran had a Homer in
- 1:21:15Minnesota this this week That was pretty sick.
- 1:21:18After he flipped off some fans. Didn't even get into that.
- 1:21:24Yeah, I'm kind of, kind of done with that at this point.
- 1:21:26But anyway, I'm taking that. No, Give me the Homer every day
- 1:21:34of the week, twice on a Sunday. I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:21:37Yeah, no, Give me the home or every day of the week.
- 1:21:39Twice on Sunday, there's no contest.
- 1:21:42The walk off celebration at home on a walk off World Series
- 1:21:46winning home run. It's a walk off, which means
- 1:21:49you're at home, which means the place is going to come unglued.
- 1:21:53That's another good point. A diving catch is still I'm
- 1:21:57switching back. Come on, I'm switching back.
- 1:21:59You're still you're winning the World Series either way.
- 1:22:02Yes, but the yeah. But I need the crowd behind that
- 1:22:07moment. I think the the.
- 1:22:08Catch would I mean you're going to get the reaction from the
- 1:22:10fans with a catch, but it's going to be 10X on a Homer if
- 1:22:15not more. Sure.
- 1:22:19Also, this is an this is a 00 ball game.
- 1:22:24That's kind of crazy too, you know what I mean?
- 1:22:27Yeah, yeah. The one side of it is the other
- 1:22:31side of it. You're already winning.
- 1:22:36True, valid point. And you could have hit the hey,
- 1:22:40here's the thing, I'm making the diving catch.
- 1:22:42Nothing or 8. Nothing.
- 1:22:45It doesn't matter. Yeah, if you're on defense, you
- 1:22:48have to be winning. That's what he's saying.
- 1:22:52He's saying in the defensive situation you're up 1, nothing,
- 1:22:54but you're not winning in the. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:22:57Situation. It doesn't exist.
- 1:22:59Yeah, exactly because it doesn't exist.
- 1:23:00Like you can't. There's no one going to be on
- 1:23:02base and it's still a perfecto and it has to somehow be a walk
- 1:23:06off. So that'd be a 00 ball game.
- 1:23:07It'd be 00 if you're if you're picking the home run.
- 1:23:10Yeah. What I'm picking, what I'm
- 1:23:12picking is making the diving catch to preserve the the
- 1:23:17perfect game, Game 7, the World Series.
- 1:23:19What you don't know is I hit the home run in the eighth.
- 1:23:26That would be probably like the first dogpile to happen like in
- 1:23:29center field, you know? Oh, if I make that dive and
- 1:23:33catch you got a thing there. We're late fall.
- 1:23:36I'm sliding a little bit. It's late fall, right?
- 1:23:38Or it's or it's fall. I'm sliding a little bit and I'm
- 1:23:42just going to lay there like this.
- 1:23:43I'm not moving. It's like everybody's.
- 1:23:45Coming to me 34°. Actually, The thing is, is
- 1:23:48nobody's coming to me. They're all going to the
- 1:23:51pitcher. I'm laying out there by myself.
- 1:23:54I'm soaking it in. No, that's what I'm saying
- 1:23:56because I think everyone rushes to center field at that point.
- 1:23:59No, they rush to the pitchery. That's perfect game.
- 1:24:01No, that's a question in and of itself.
- 1:24:03Do you go to the mound for a a pitcher who just threw APG to
- 1:24:08win the World Series or do you go to the guy that just made the
- 1:24:11Sports Centre top 10 catch to win it?
- 1:24:15I think you're going the outfielders are going to pick
- 1:24:18you up so you can all run into I.
- 1:24:19Need that. Yeah, I need that catcher.
- 1:24:22I need that catcher sprinting 300 feet in his gear to dead
- 1:24:26center. But you know what the you know
- 1:24:29what the perfect game means to a catcher, too?
- 1:24:31So he's going to the pitcher. They just had a thing that that
- 1:24:35they're not gonna. They're they're together
- 1:24:37forever. I'm going yard at home.
- 1:24:39I'm going yard too, but I also just made a diving catch.
- 1:24:46The the coolest thing to me, the coolest thing about that would
- 1:24:51be the fact that my guy just pitched a perfect game and he's
- 1:24:56so he's the star of the show. Not my diving catch.
- 1:24:59He got 27 other outs too. I love that JB is just painting
- 1:25:03the scene of the whole night. He's like I went 4 for four on
- 1:25:06the night with a walk. You can do whatever you want.
- 1:25:10I mean I I get it but. You didn't drive in any runs.
- 1:25:13If you hit the home run, you got one good at.
- 1:25:15Back I play 7 defensive positions.
- 1:25:19Let's let's alter it slightly. Let's alter it slightly.
- 1:25:23Instead of a diving catch, what if it's a home run, Rob?
- 1:25:27It's the same. For me, yeah, it doesn't matter
- 1:25:29at all. It doesn't change it, no.
- 1:25:31No, and because. In that situation, you still got
- 1:25:34the bottom of the inning, so it's not like it it loses the
- 1:25:37game for you. But.
- 1:25:44No they he's saying home run rob to win the game.
- 1:25:49Yeah. Right.
- 1:25:50What I'm seeing this if. You miss if you miss.
- 1:25:53This is. This is you're up.
- 1:25:56This is like a one nothing or. OK, my point still stands.
- 1:25:59If you miss the catch to rob it, the game isn't over.
- 1:26:05You still have. The game is over, sure, but it
- 1:26:07doesn't. I mean, the game's not over, is
- 1:26:09what I'm saying. Yeah, the the the best they
- 1:26:12could do is tie the game right there one to one.
- 1:26:15But in my scenario it's 4 nothing.
- 1:26:17And have to be 1 nothing. It can be 5 nothing.
- 1:26:20It could be 12. Nothing.
- 1:26:22Yeah. And it could be all the 12 JB's,
- 1:26:2512 RBIs, like what are we talking about?
- 1:26:284 Grannies. I don't see that.
- 1:26:30Well, that's not how math works. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:26:34That's five years anyway. Six years.
- 1:26:39Good stuff. All right, well, that was we
- 1:26:43talked more this episode about a quote that was never said and a
- 1:26:49hypothetical about Game Seven World in the World Series and
- 1:26:53it's April. Here's the thing.
- 1:26:54That was a wild book. Those are wild bookends.
- 1:26:57Any other player I would have immediately picked up on the
- 1:27:01fact that it was fake. I think it was because it was
- 1:27:04Manny Machado and I was like, yeah, this checks out.
- 1:27:07But he he played for the Dodgers.
- 1:27:11Yeah, he did. He hates it there.
- 1:27:14I get it OK. Speaking of my guy, my favorite
- 1:27:18player, Shohei Otani, first, I think the first time in a long
- 1:27:24time he is starting tonight without hitting.
- 1:27:26I saw that. Kind of wild.
- 1:27:33Short trivia for you here. OK.
- 1:27:37There were two teams last year who on April 15th.
- 1:27:41Oh, that Jackson, Merrill, Rob. I told you, yeah.
- 1:27:44Sick. Anyway, sorry Jimmy, go.
- 1:27:46Ahead Yeah, two teams last year who went first place on April
