Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Wayne d in the CMA's and I got to
- 0:01Speaker 1: tell you, look, there's not many people that give me
- 0:04Speaker 1: a little starstruck man, but Eric Church is in the building.
- 0:06Speaker 1: How's the chief good?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Wayne?
- 0:07Speaker 1: How life is good? And I want to thank you
- 0:09Speaker 1: for taking the time out. You're part of the reason
- 0:11Speaker 1: why I do this, So thank you for the opportunity.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You stepped up in a big way, not only with
- 0:16Speaker 1: the song but with the concert partnering with Luke Combs.
- 0:19Speaker 1: There are things that are asking for your help and
- 0:22Speaker 1: your attention and your donation and time all the time.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Why did this make the most sense for you?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Because that's home for me, So I spent half my
- 0:30Speaker 3: year there. I wouldn't be who I am if it
- 0:32Speaker 3: weren't for the people in North Carolina. Weren't being raised
- 0:34Speaker 3: by those people. So this was a special thing for
- 0:37Speaker 3: me when Helene happened, and you know, just doing everything
- 0:40Speaker 3: we can to help.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We've committed to with the funds that we've raised to
- 0:45Speaker 1: put homes.
- 0:46Speaker 3: In western North Carolina because the biggest problem that I
- 0:49Speaker 3: see is we're really good in this country at immediate
- 0:52Speaker 3: nine to one to one assistants, food, water, diapers, but
- 0:55Speaker 3: we don't do very good at the next part of
- 0:57Speaker 3: keeping people in the community. So we've committed to a
- 0:59Speaker 3: project there, and that's part of the reason I'm playing
- 1:02Speaker 3: the CMAS is I'm playing Darkest Hour Country Radio step
- 1:06Speaker 3: up in a big way to keep the attention on
- 1:08Speaker 3: Darkest Hour and what's happening to the people in North Carolina,
- 1:11Speaker 3: because we move on real quick, right, and it's about
- 1:15Speaker 3: keeping the focus on There's a lot of need there,
- 1:17Speaker 3: and there's going to be need for a long time,
- 1:19Speaker 3: so we're just trying to keep the focus on that.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Darkest Hour is a song that you don't only hear,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you feel, And I'd imagine that that was the same
- 1:27Speaker 1: way for you when you wrote it. But this is
- 1:28Speaker 1: a song that you had already just ended up falling
- 1:31Speaker 1: into place for this, right, yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Never never written with this in mind. Right, I'm working
- 1:35Speaker 3: on a project for next year and still am. And
- 1:38Speaker 3: when Helene happened and I saw what was happening there,
- 1:41Speaker 3: I was listening back to the mixes one day and
- 1:44Speaker 3: there's the line of the song in your Darkest Hour,
- 1:46Speaker 3: I'll come running, and it just made sense, and I
- 1:49Speaker 3: knew I would regret not putting the song out and
- 1:54Speaker 3: letting that be somewhat of an anthem for those people
- 1:56Speaker 3: that need help.
- 1:57Speaker 1: What do you hope this song does for you to
- 2:00Speaker 1: look back and know that the song was successful. Obviously
- 2:02Speaker 1: the efforts and the financial lift of song, it helps
- 2:04Speaker 1: as many people as it can. I mean, I gave
- 2:06Speaker 1: the song to the State of North Carolina.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I gave it away.
- 2:08Speaker 3: They own it, so all the royalties and everything forever
- 2:11Speaker 3: and ever is them, they'll get to help that.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That's massive.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, gave it away, so I hope it does as
- 2:18Speaker 3: much as it can do to help this people.
- 2:19Speaker 1: A very special moment going to be created the CMA
- 2:21Speaker 1: Awards with you doing this song, man, Eric, thank you again, brother,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Thank you. CMA's are here, Wayne d and Cody Johnson
- 2:27Speaker 1: and I literally have had more conversations with Cody Johnson
- 2:30Speaker 1: in the last three months than I have with family
- 2:33Speaker 1: members all year.
- 2:35Speaker 2: That's same man.
- 2:37Speaker 1: We recently caught up about Vegas and you're getting ready
- 2:40Speaker 1: to do some riding there, which a lot of people
- 2:42Speaker 1: don't know, Like, you don't just sing the rodeo, you
- 2:45Speaker 1: live the rodeo as well. How do you you Obviously
- 2:48Speaker 1: we know how you get ready to sing, right you
- 2:50Speaker 1: write songs, you get ready to hit the tour. How
- 2:52Speaker 1: do you is there getting ready for writing a bullmore writing?
- 2:58Speaker 4: In generally, riding bulls is a lot more preparation. It's
- 3:00Speaker 4: a lot more ground rider bush. Yeah, I used to
- 3:02Speaker 4: ride bulls and as a kid, are you kidding me?
- 3:04Speaker 1: For real? Yeah?
- 3:05Speaker 4: Man?
- 3:05Speaker 1: How long ago? How long ago were you kid?
- 3:07Speaker 4: I rode from the time I was about fifteen to
- 3:09Speaker 4: about twenty, and finally just said this is enough, Like
- 3:14Speaker 4: I've broken enough bones. I'm not getting anywhere. I got
- 3:16Speaker 4: the buckles in the stories. But team roping is a
- 3:19Speaker 4: lot better for me now.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Well, so so take us through through how you get
- 3:22Speaker 1: ready for team roping, because are you training like a
- 3:24Speaker 1: normal athlete?
- 3:25Speaker 4: Well, yeah, well it's mostly about your horse. You want
- 3:27Speaker 4: to make sure that your horse is loosened up, you know.
- 3:29Speaker 4: And I have certain horses that really have to be
- 3:32Speaker 4: rode down a lot to where their their nerves go
- 3:34Speaker 4: away and you can feel them kind of start to
- 3:36Speaker 4: lower their head and they're like, okay, they got their
- 3:38Speaker 4: energy out that way. When we get in the arena,
- 3:40Speaker 4: they're not amped up and they're not making mistakes. And
- 3:42Speaker 4: that's mostly for your younger horses. Now, I've got a
- 3:44Speaker 4: couple older horses running around a few times. Let them
- 3:47Speaker 4: get a little sweat and let's go to work. But
- 3:49Speaker 4: for me, it's it's mostly focusing on my shoulder, my elbow,
- 3:52Speaker 4: keeping it open, making sure my loop is sharp and
- 3:55Speaker 4: not too much slacked between my hands. You have to
- 3:57Speaker 4: look all that up for all you people out there listening,
- 4:00Speaker 4: But it's mostly a mental game.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Well, we talked to a lot of country artists that
- 4:04Speaker 1: like that pretend to be cowboys. We'll have to edit
- 4:06Speaker 1: that out.
- 4:07Speaker 5: No, you that up.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But I love highlighting the fact that you are one.
- 4:11Speaker 1: What's the holidays looking like for you?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Man?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Easy?
- 4:14Speaker 4: Like after the cmare Wars, I go home, quiet, little
- 4:17Speaker 4: Thanksgiving at the house we're gonna go for actually, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 4: after we get back from Vegas, we'll do a week
- 4:23Speaker 4: long there with me roping and playing two shows at
- 4:25Speaker 4: the mgm UH and then go home for Christmas and
- 4:28Speaker 4: we're gonna take the girls, put them on a jit
- 4:30Speaker 4: and we're gonna drive or fly out of the snow
- 4:31Speaker 4: and have a white Christmas for once, because there ain't
- 4:33Speaker 4: no such thing as a white Christmas in Texas.
- 4:36Speaker 1: When you look forward to twenty twenty five. What's something
- 4:38Speaker 1: that you weren't able to check off a list this
- 4:40Speaker 1: year that twenty twenty five better bring your way?
- 4:43Speaker 4: I mean Belfest Ireland sold out, So there's that. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 4: we're going to the UK. We see London.
- 4:50Speaker 1: We oh we are you and your team? Oh you
- 4:53Speaker 1: can go. I got vag case and days I'm giving
- 4:55Speaker 1: like two weeks of va case days back.
- 4:58Speaker 4: We're doing England, We're doing Scotland, We're doing Ireland and
- 5:01Speaker 4: then Australia.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And New Zealand. So hey, I want to say congratulations.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I know we're short on time. You just played the
- 5:08Speaker 1: definition of a hometown show. What was that like? Take
- 5:13Speaker 1: us through it?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Man, nuts, I mean, pardon me.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Everybody dreams about their first headline stadium show, but I
- 5:20Speaker 4: always wanted to be in Texas and it was and
- 5:22Speaker 4: it was like it brought tears in my eyes.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Man.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It wasn't an emotional night like yeah that on stage
- 5:27Speaker 1: because you're not a big like no, I just you
- 5:29Speaker 1: just got to focus through it.
- 5:30Speaker 4: But like the entire time you're playing and you're looking
- 5:31Speaker 4: at at almost fifty thousand people, it's kind of like
- 5:35Speaker 4: the first time I played Houston rodeo. You're looking around
- 5:37Speaker 4: and you're going, I remember what it was like to
- 5:38Speaker 4: get paid a hundred bucks to come singing a bar
- 5:40Speaker 4: for three hours, you know, and couldn't pay your bills,
- 5:43Speaker 4: and nobody really cared, you know, nobody give a damn
- 5:45Speaker 4: about what you were singing or the CDs you were
- 5:47Speaker 4: trying to sell. And Uh, to have that kind of
- 5:49Speaker 4: a reception in Arlington, it was I can't wait to
- 5:51Speaker 4: do it again.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I wish I could Pokemo. I'd love to see you
- 5:54Speaker 1: a cry right now, but we ain't gonna do it
- 5:55Speaker 1: to them like that, like that, Cody, Cody Johnson. Enjoy
- 5:59Speaker 1: all things, ma, and you have absolutely crushed twenty four.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what's next.
- 6:04Speaker 5: And best friend Glen.
- 6:07Speaker 6: Was in her kitchen trying to cook something and she
- 6:09Speaker 6: slipped on the mushroom and broke her But I was like,
- 6:11Speaker 6: you can't tell you no, Like you just can't, you can't.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, I hoped this old lady cross
- 6:16Speaker 1: the streets. She was getting mugged, all this bullshit, Yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 1: just but the problems. Then someone else would ask and
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'd forget, well, yeah go, And she's Hulk Hogan's piece.
- 6:25Speaker 6: That's the that's the inherent problem with lying exactly.
- 6:29Speaker 1: It gets hard forget it. Yeah, CMA season is here
- 6:32Speaker 1: and we are hanging with Ms Ashley McBride. How is
- 6:35Speaker 1: life as you It's good.
- 6:37Speaker 6: It's good right now. We are still touring, of course,
- 6:39Speaker 6: and we go all the way through the end of
- 6:41Speaker 6: the year and start right back up in January.
- 6:43Speaker 1: No rest for the wicked. But I'd rather be busy
- 6:46Speaker 1: than be bored. Well, let me ask you life. I
- 6:49Speaker 1: feel like road life from the times that we've caught up.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Road life is happy life for you.
- 6:53Speaker 6: Yeah, that's where I take better care of myself. I
- 6:57Speaker 6: make at least as good of new attrition choices.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Sometimes you can't avoid it.
- 7:02Speaker 6: But that is who I am, and it's who I
- 7:04Speaker 6: sing I am, and it's who I say I am,
- 7:07Speaker 6: And that is where I feel the most connected to
- 7:09Speaker 6: what I'm supposed to be connected to, which is my band,
- 7:12Speaker 6: of my guys and making music.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I want to compliment you, and I swear it sounds
- 7:18Speaker 1: like a compliment, but it's like a random one. You
- 7:21Speaker 1: are one of the most authentic artists that country has,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I feel, and that's not a slight on other people,
- 7:26Speaker 1: but it's like, I don't. It feels like you've never
- 7:29Speaker 1: chased a hit. You're making music that listen, it vibes
- 7:33Speaker 1: with me. I recorded it. Hope you all dig it to.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Is that true? And if so, why have you made
- 7:39Speaker 1: short to stay that way? I tried.
- 7:43Speaker 6: You have to make the music that's in you, right,
- 7:46Speaker 6: And I've tried doing the other thing, especially early on
- 7:49Speaker 6: in my publishing, you know, writing as a.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Songwriter for a publishing house and all that, and there.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Would be days where they're like, you need to write this,
- 7:55Speaker 6: but it can't say this, this or this and must
- 7:57Speaker 6: be this, this or this, and you're like, oh, wow,
- 7:59Speaker 6: those are terrible songs.
- 8:00Speaker 5: They're terrible.
- 8:01Speaker 6: They're all bad. I tried making music that wasn't in me,
- 8:06Speaker 6: and I sucked at it. So I figure, we'll just
- 8:10Speaker 6: make the music that's in us, and then the ears
- 8:12Speaker 6: that need it will get it because we all It's
- 8:16Speaker 6: like finding a cool show that your friends haven't heard
- 8:18Speaker 6: of yet on streaming services when you're like, no, you're
- 8:20Speaker 6: gonna love this show. And that's how our music moves
- 8:23Speaker 6: around too. We're all starving for something. We will go
- 8:28Speaker 6: and find what it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Is we need. Part of being authentic for me as
- 8:33Speaker 1: a country music fan when I'm you know, discovering different
- 8:35Speaker 1: music our artists. Is country is not defined like it
- 8:40Speaker 1: used to be. Now it used to be color in
- 8:43Speaker 1: the lines, and that's country? Why is it? Why has
- 8:46Speaker 1: it always been important for you? And maybe not on purpose,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but anyone listening to your music, you have a sound
- 8:54Speaker 1: that you are not willing to jeopardize at any point,
- 8:57Speaker 1: right and if somebody listens to you, and whether it's
- 9:00Speaker 1: working with Carly Pearce, so working with you are still
- 9:02Speaker 1: Ashley McBride. You don't lose yourself in whoever you're working with,
- 9:05Speaker 1: which I imagine can be tough.
- 9:07Speaker 6: I just can't figure out how else to do it.
- 9:10Speaker 6: It's sort of like recently, the band and I were asked.
- 9:13Speaker 5: To play How's op the World and Melt with.
- 9:16Speaker 6: You, not a country song, right by a very British band,
- 9:19Speaker 6: and I was like, I don't know if that's going
- 9:20Speaker 6: to translate, well, it'll probably sound like a muppet, like
- 9:23Speaker 6: I was even practicing it as a muppet.
- 9:24Speaker 7: Like.
- 9:25Speaker 6: I've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time.
- 9:28Speaker 6: I didn't want I was like, I can't do it
- 9:30Speaker 6: like that, And then we just played it the way
- 9:31Speaker 6: we would play it. Even though we're playing it, we're
- 9:34Speaker 6: covering it right, so we're playing it the way they
- 9:35Speaker 6: played it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: But then we played it.
- 9:36Speaker 6: And it sounded different, and I was like, it actually
- 9:38Speaker 6: works as a country song. We weren't trying to make
- 9:40Speaker 6: it a country song. I literally can't figure out how
- 9:42Speaker 6: to do it another way.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Listen, you are busy, and this is just the tip
- 9:48Speaker 1: of the iceberg. I feel like some of these grandparents, Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: enjoy it. I will take a deep breast.
- 9:54Speaker 6: I will this is such a busy time, all the
- 9:56Speaker 6: way until after the award show, and I don't I
- 10:00Speaker 6: know that we always get such sound advice.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Enjoy it.
- 10:04Speaker 5: You get to do this.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You could just stand here.
- 10:07Speaker 6: You know how many people would kill to.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Be standing here. I'll tell you. We were talking to
- 10:10Speaker 1: Marty from Shenandoah last year and he said to me,
- 10:13Speaker 1: he goes, and I forgot what we were talking about.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But like, I mean, everyone's life goes one hundred miles
- 10:18Speaker 1: an hour. So I had mentioned something about my life
- 10:20Speaker 1: and he was saying something about his, and he goes,
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's important to always look.
- 10:23Speaker 2: At your feet.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He goes, You can't you can't appreciate where you've been
- 10:27Speaker 1: because it's over. You can't appreciate where you're going because
- 10:29Speaker 1: you don't know where you're going. So look at your feet.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And so I brought it up to him here and
- 10:33Speaker 1: he remembered it today and.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Think about like I did this John Prime thing at
- 10:38Speaker 6: the Hall of Fame recently, and my dressing room roommate
- 10:42Speaker 6: was Kathy Matteya, and she's lovely. We had great conversations.
- 10:45Speaker 6: And when she left the room for a moment, I
- 10:47Speaker 6: looked at my team and I said, do you ever go,
- 10:50Speaker 6: oh my god, this is my life. What kind of
- 10:53Speaker 6: life have I lived? So that I get to live
- 10:55Speaker 6: this life? I just had a conversation with her, like
- 10:58Speaker 6: she's my neighbor. She's part of the reason I get
- 11:01Speaker 6: to do this for a living. Every door I walked through,
- 11:04Speaker 6: some other woman kicked it open for me, and I
- 11:06Speaker 6: get to thank her. Incredible, it's massive.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Enjoy it, you guys, talk to her. I get to
- 11:12Speaker 1: talk to you. Ashle McBride's CMAS enjoyed Deer. It's CMA's
- 11:15Speaker 1: Matt Stella's here at Wayne d H. What's what's this
- 11:18Speaker 1: experience like for you? Man? Because you've done this time
- 11:21Speaker 1: and time again. Uh do you look forward to it?
- 11:23Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's work. I don't I look
- 11:26Speaker 1: forward to it.
- 11:27Speaker 8: Man, Like I get to catch up with a lot
- 11:30Speaker 8: of like friends, you know, whether it's you know y'all
- 11:33Speaker 8: or artist friends or writer friends or like label promotions people.
- 11:37Speaker 8: You know, Like it's just where everybody kind of congregates.
- 11:39Speaker 8: So you end up running into people and it ends up,
- 11:41Speaker 8: you know, being a hay You know.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I will tell you you are a guy who has
- 11:45Speaker 1: always worked your tail off. You obviously saw early success.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Uh you it felt like you ran into a wall,
- 11:52Speaker 1: like where it's like people weren't people were connecting, but
- 11:55Speaker 1: not enough people were hearing it, Like it wasn't it
- 11:58Speaker 1: on a platform? Right now you're back to conquering the
- 12:01Speaker 1: way you have in the past. How does it? How
- 12:03Speaker 1: does it feel to kind of I hate the word rebound.
- 12:06Speaker 8: Well, but here's the thing, So that's that's very fair
- 12:09Speaker 8: because you know, we had our second number one in
- 12:12Speaker 8: country radio in the thick of COVID you know everything
- 12:15Speaker 8: we were in the middle of our headline and tour.
- 12:18Speaker 8: You know, we had twenty five dates for the most
- 12:20Speaker 8: part sold out, right, so we're up in the Northeast
- 12:22Speaker 8: and we're on a Wednesday, we're playing New York and
- 12:25Speaker 8: on a Thursday, that bus just turns around at hezbat
- 12:27Speaker 8: to Nashville for a year. And when that stuff happens,
- 12:29Speaker 8: you know, everybody and again, like I there's a lot
- 12:32Speaker 8: of people lost, a lot more than you know, just
- 12:34Speaker 8: touring days. But there has been, like you know, a
- 12:37Speaker 8: challenge to get back on the horse and to get
- 12:40Speaker 8: the ball roll in the way that we had it.
- 12:41Speaker 8: And that's what makes me excited about, you know, breaking
- 12:43Speaker 8: in boots, being in the top twenty and starting to
- 12:46Speaker 8: see that thing kind of do a thing and yeah, man,
- 12:48Speaker 8: it's cool, it's good.
- 12:50Speaker 1: How do you stay because country music for everybody is
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean, it's a grind man, and there's sometimes it
- 12:55Speaker 1: kicks you in the teeth and the sometimes it puts
- 12:57Speaker 1: you on the throne. Yeah, how do you stay positive
- 13:00Speaker 1: and moving forward when you're like, Okay, well we're gonna
- 13:03Speaker 1: try something different this time.
- 13:04Speaker 8: Yeah, man, I mean a lot of it, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 8: a lot of it's mine. It's all mindset, man, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 8: because at the end of the day, like I don't
- 13:11Speaker 8: deserve I don't deserve to have a pity party.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 13:14Speaker 8: There's too many people out there that that that have
- 13:17Speaker 8: to go through things that that I don't even understand
- 13:20Speaker 8: how hard it is. And and you know, I've got
- 13:23Speaker 8: people that are close to me that have to deal
- 13:24Speaker 8: with Like I was talking to a good friend of
- 13:26Speaker 8: mine today who's who I was checking in on them
- 13:28Speaker 8: because his dad passed away suddenly recently, right, And that
- 13:31Speaker 8: happens to you know, most all of us. But but
- 13:35Speaker 8: you know, when you're in the throes of that kind
- 13:36Speaker 8: of thing, man, you know that it'll put it in perspective.
- 13:39Speaker 8: And when I lost my dad, I remember, you know,
- 13:41Speaker 8: sort of getting a little bit of a of a
- 13:43Speaker 8: perspective shift. And and I think that's the most important,
- 13:46Speaker 8: wouldn't you know. I wouldn't preciate anybody or anything. But
- 13:49Speaker 8: keeping things in perspective is what I do because it
- 13:52Speaker 8: keeps the distractions away and it gets me focused on
- 13:55Speaker 8: the things that I can I can care that I
- 13:57Speaker 8: need to care about, and the things that I can do.
- 14:00Speaker 1: We're just talking about the success of breaking in boots. Uh.
- 14:03Speaker 1: The music fans are like, that's great, but what's next?
- 14:07Speaker 1: That's great? But what's next?
- 14:08Speaker 5: I love it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Are you focused on what's next? Is there? Have you
- 14:12Speaker 1: shared fully what what plans are post this single and
- 14:16Speaker 1: the next one and whatever?
- 14:17Speaker 8: Man, you never know, Like there's uh, there's some songs
- 14:19Speaker 8: raising their hand on off of the new record that
- 14:21Speaker 8: I'm you know, I'm really proud of my record that
- 14:23Speaker 8: I put out this year, Born Lonely. I. I wrote
- 14:25Speaker 8: it from a place where I was just trying to
- 14:27Speaker 8: I was just trying to really make a record that
- 14:29Speaker 8: the kid that learned how to play guitar is in
- 14:31Speaker 8: his dorm room.
- 14:32Speaker 9: Uh.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Would would love, for the most part, you know, grow
- 14:35Speaker 8: up a little bit, you know, but but uh, but
- 14:38Speaker 8: be proud of and love. And I'm just gonna keep
- 14:40Speaker 8: on that train. And whether or not the next thing
- 14:43Speaker 8: is something that's out, whether or not the next thing
- 14:45Speaker 8: is new music that I just got done writing.
- 14:48Speaker 1: You know, I'm excited about.
- 14:49Speaker 8: All of it because I've learned in this business you
- 14:52Speaker 8: turn that loose and you let the you let the
- 14:54Speaker 8: suits worry about what they what they need to do,
- 14:56Speaker 8: and you just give them a just let them pick
- 14:58Speaker 8: from anything that you like, and you'll have something you
- 15:00Speaker 8: like out on the radio.
- 15:01Speaker 1: So that's very motivating to hear the story of continuing
- 15:04Speaker 1: to grind. Man. Yeah, country radio definitely has a spot
- 15:06Speaker 1: for you, So keep going, brother man.
- 15:09Speaker 8: There will be no I'm always gonna keep going, man,
- 15:11Speaker 8: I don't know no other way.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Listen, and if it comes down to it, book birthday parties.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Matt Stell dot Com absolutely absolutely yeah. Dot Net congratulates
- 15:24Speaker 1: it's CMA time Wayne d hanging out. It's one of
- 15:26Speaker 1: the best doing it. Honestly, I'm gonna use the word
- 15:28Speaker 1: probably one of the most underrated artists we're gonna see
- 15:30Speaker 1: today is Russell Dickerson. That's a fact. Demand's had success.
- 15:34Speaker 1: He's still grinding. How you feeling, I I wish I
- 15:37Speaker 1: could disagree with you.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I wish I was rated, but I'm I'm underrated.
- 15:42Speaker 10: Yeah, it's all right, and that's I'm kidding. Listen, Okay,
- 15:45Speaker 10: we're thriving, we're hanging I'm gonna keep doing my thing.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Let me ask you, what's the toughest part. This is
- 15:51Speaker 1: gonna be real, Okay, this is gonna be like therapist.
- 15:54Speaker 2: We're getting into.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Everybody wants a number one song, but as an artist,
- 16:00Speaker 1: we're going mental health on you. What is the hardest
- 16:03Speaker 1: part about putting out a song and have it not
- 16:06Speaker 1: connecting as fast as the last one.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I mean really, just like you're like, what am I
- 16:14Speaker 2: doing wrong? You know? If we're getting real real, be
- 16:17Speaker 2: real bit. Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 10: But I mean, dude, if I that's like super zoomed in,
- 16:22Speaker 10: super focused on that specific subject. So if I zoom
- 16:26Speaker 10: out and look at I have five number ones, you
- 16:30Speaker 10: know what I mean, that's where that's where I gotta
- 16:32Speaker 10: That's where I gotta stay above the water, dude.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I can't get that deep into the water.
- 16:36Speaker 10: True, And you know, I you know, entertaining wise, like,
- 16:41Speaker 10: I feel like we we put on one of the
- 16:44Speaker 10: best shows in country music. So come on out to
- 16:47Speaker 10: russell Mania. By the way, twenty five plug there. So yeah, man,
- 16:53Speaker 10: I don't know here we are.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Let me make a Russell I'm this is gonna be
- 16:56Speaker 1: a selfish port on the interview russell Mania. I see
- 16:59Speaker 1: merch all over country radio. It's fine, No, no, we
- 17:06Speaker 1: have no Rustlemania.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Big facts?
- 17:09Speaker 2: All right, Well it's about to change. You know what.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm going to get you the new line. That's fine,
- 17:13Speaker 2: get you that fresh line.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I will come to your house. I drive by it
- 17:15Speaker 1: on the way home, you do, I stop looking at
- 17:18Speaker 1: the stopped looking at the Windowso because your wife is like,
- 17:20Speaker 1: would you leave?
- 17:21Speaker 10: Wait, I swear to god, dude, you don't stop peeping.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Powder bath?
- 17:29Speaker 1: He was a powder bath. I'm not on that text bracket.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Okay, me neither.
- 17:32Speaker 9: Dude.
- 17:34Speaker 2: It's a bathroom without a shower.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Is that really what it's called?
- 17:37Speaker 10: Yeah, all right, No, I'm just I've just been married.
- 17:40Speaker 10: I've been married for eleven years. You know, Yeah, that's
- 17:43Speaker 10: what That's how I know. That's how I know it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: What are you? And I know you say that the
- 17:48Speaker 1: five number ones. I know how proud you are with that,
- 17:51Speaker 1: because you you're a guy who takes pride in the
- 17:53Speaker 1: songwriting aspect. But give me just the last three hundred
- 17:58Speaker 1: and sixty five days, right, nothing and before that? What
- 18:00Speaker 1: are you most proud of that gets you up doing
- 18:03Speaker 1: it again tomorrow?
- 18:05Speaker 2: Your kids? Okay, no respect.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I know you're a proud father, but career wise.
- 18:12Speaker 10: I mean, dude, really, I think it was earlier this
- 18:16Speaker 10: year we celebrated that we had a triple number one
- 18:19Speaker 10: party insanity. But it's honestly, like the new music that
- 18:24Speaker 10: I have that is about to drop that like I'm like, oh, heck, yeah.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Daddy's still got it. Daddy's home for the holidays. Baby.
- 18:34Speaker 2: You know what I mean. You know exactly what I mean.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You're what never mind?
- 18:38Speaker 10: Yeah, no, she says Daddy's home for the holidays when
- 18:42Speaker 10: I come in off the road anytime between.
- 18:45Speaker 2: No, that's what she's talking to me, you know.
- 18:50Speaker 1: On Instagram when we post this.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Get the real story.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Uh what are the plans for the holidays?
- 18:54Speaker 7: Man?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Are you get to wind down soon here? Or what's
- 18:56Speaker 1: the deal?
- 18:57Speaker 10: So we're we're renovating our house. Our house is to
- 19:01Speaker 10: the studs and.
- 19:03Speaker 1: There's always.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Where get the stud finder?
- 19:08Speaker 10: We found one and uh so we're living like basically,
- 19:13Speaker 10: I've rented my neighbor's house as my songwriting studio everything,
- 19:18Speaker 10: and so we're living in that right now. Yeah, it's
- 19:21Speaker 10: a little it's like a seventies little ranch. There's cockroaches.
- 19:24Speaker 10: We're figuring out life.
- 19:25Speaker 2: It's great.
- 19:26Speaker 10: Yeah, but uh so we're we're not hosting. We always
- 19:29Speaker 10: host we always have people over, but we're like, y'all
- 19:32Speaker 10: gonna have to figure something out because we we ain't
- 19:34Speaker 10: got it this year.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Dude. We'll have you down at spring Hill Party in
- 19:39Speaker 1: spring Hill wait, I'm getting wrapped, but I have to Thanksgiving.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Uh.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Massive debate between Tay and I. Stuffing is number one
- 19:46Speaker 1: on her list for sides. Mine is sweet potatoes. Mmm.
- 19:52Speaker 10: If if I was if I walked into a Thanksgiving
- 19:55Speaker 10: dinner and they didn't have one or the other, I
- 19:59Speaker 10: would leave if they did not have stuff in.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Sorry, I just can't win this whole thing. It's fine.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I would leave.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Russell Mania taken over CMA Fest or CMA Wow, it's fine.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Well and at the end, russell Mania taken over cm
- 20:14Speaker 1: as right, it's Wayne d and c m A continues
- 20:18Speaker 1: and we're hanging with Tucker wet Moore. Who a year
- 20:21Speaker 1: ago this would have been a whole different experience. But
- 20:23Speaker 1: you got a big old hit on country radio.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, it's awesome.
- 20:29Speaker 11: Man.
- 20:29Speaker 12: This is my first CMA fift Awards.
- 20:31Speaker 1: See and I said CMA Fest earlier. Listen they like
- 20:34Speaker 1: wrap the city around it, so you listen flip a right.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Uh so with the CMA Awards, who are you going with?
- 20:41Speaker 1: And this isn't like a who are you doing? Who's going?
- 20:44Speaker 1: Who's who's going with? Show?
- 20:47Speaker 13: Probably someone on my team, like my manager. Okay, yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 13: I think I'm taking my manager.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Listen, they're part of the reason why you're going. That's
- 20:53Speaker 1: maybe maybe a couple down the line, we'll take somebody else.
- 20:57Speaker 1: What are you expecting from Have you been to the
- 20:58Speaker 1: show as a fan before?
- 20:59Speaker 12: I have not, so this is you never that's my
- 21:02Speaker 12: first ever experience.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Oh you excited?
- 21:04Speaker 2: I'm so excited. What's this?
- 21:06Speaker 1: Are we pulling the stash back more? Is it gonna stay?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Have you gotten that part knocked out? Oh? Yeah, I
- 21:10Speaker 1: got my outfit. Okay. Oh that's gonna look.
- 21:13Speaker 12: It's gonna look so good.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Did you pick someone else? Pigot, somebody else picked it?
- 21:18Speaker 14: That's well, I'm in the game.
- 21:21Speaker 12: They picked it out, and then they gave me options.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Okay, and then I picked that. I can respect that. Uh.
- 21:26Speaker 1: There are a lot of things that happened CMA Awards.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Obviously the awards themselves. There's the performances. Are you excited
- 21:33Speaker 1: to see the performances? And is there anybody that stands out?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Because I mean, if we just talked to Eric Church
- 21:38Speaker 1: a second ago, which I'm a huge Eric Church fan,
- 21:41Speaker 1: that would be did you bump it in him? No, dude,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he's here for like two more minutes. He's literally right down.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I just met Cody Johnson.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I love Cody.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I love Cody Johnson. Uh, you're right. Who cares if
- 21:56Speaker 1: you could jump into somebody and this turns into a
- 21:58Speaker 1: collaboration together, because obviously that's like the hottest thing in country.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Who would it be if you could bump into somebody
- 22:04Speaker 1: outside of Eric Church and it becomes your first big
- 22:07Speaker 1: collab on country radio. Who would it be some of
- 22:09Speaker 1: that I haven't met yet or somebody you've met? Either way, ooh,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:16Speaker 12: Cody Johnson is still fresh on my mind.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Probably would be.
- 22:19Speaker 1: That would be really nuts. Yeah, because Cody Johnson throws
- 22:22Speaker 1: down dude, Yeah, would you be ready for that?
- 22:26Speaker 9: I throw down that.
- 22:29Speaker 1: When it comes to the end of the year. What
- 22:30Speaker 1: are your plans in between now and wrapping things up
- 22:32Speaker 1: for twenty four.
- 22:34Speaker 13: A bunch of radio shows, Thanksgiving. I'll fly back home
- 22:38Speaker 13: for Thanksgiving, and I'm going to the Bahamas. I treat
- 22:41Speaker 13: I'm gonna treat myself to a trip to the Bahamas.
- 22:44Speaker 1: They're a couple buddies.
- 22:45Speaker 13: And my golf and play, you know, because play around
- 22:48Speaker 13: in the casino and it's gonna be awesome.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Well deserved man, you've had a heck of a year.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Thank you. Congrats man, thanks, I appreciate it. Thank you.
- 22:53Speaker 1: The CMA madness rolls on, and I gotta tell you
- 22:56Speaker 1: one of the artists who has had the most buzz
- 22:58Speaker 1: behind their name in the last year. It's Wayne d
- 23:00Speaker 1: talking to Zach Top How's life of Zach top Man?
- 23:04Speaker 15: I can't complain. If I was any meda, they'd be
- 23:06Speaker 15: two of me.
- 23:09Speaker 1: It's cool because I hadn't heard your song, I hadn't
- 23:13Speaker 1: heard your name, But all of a sudden, I'm scrolling
- 23:15Speaker 1: through social media and I'm seeing names like Luke Comb's,
- 23:19Speaker 1: Laney Wilson and others praise this dude, Zach top checked
- 23:22Speaker 1: out your music. I'm like, okay for anybody that hasn't
- 23:27Speaker 1: heard your music yet, first of all, where you've been.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Second of all, it's like you have this new old
- 23:35Speaker 1: school sound to you. Why is that important for you
- 23:38Speaker 1: to I mean, it's very nineties country but today, Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's kind of man.
- 23:42Speaker 15: I feel like I cut my teeth on the same
- 23:45Speaker 15: guys that the nineties country guys probably cut their teeth on.
- 23:48Speaker 15: Marl Hygrid and George Jones and Lefty for Zeil and
- 23:51Speaker 15: you know, stuff like that, and so that was just
- 23:54Speaker 15: always my favorite stuff growing up, and so it kind
- 23:58Speaker 15: of just there wasn't any concerted effort to be the
- 24:00Speaker 15: you know, the throwback old school guy. This is just
- 24:03Speaker 15: what comes out of me when I sing and play and.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Write, I guess.
- 24:06Speaker 15: So it's I'm just grateful that folks are enjoying what
- 24:09Speaker 15: I'm doing. It's it's obviously a departure of from you know,
- 24:12Speaker 15: a lot of what's having success right now. So it's, uh,
- 24:15Speaker 15: I'm just glad people are loving it.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Your song on the radio right now really was your
- 24:19Speaker 1: first introduction to mainstream country radio. It's called sounds like
- 24:22Speaker 1: the Radio. Yeah, a little helpful.
- 24:24Speaker 15: Pandering never hurts, right, Yeah, right, well, how could you
- 24:26Speaker 15: not play it?
- 24:27Speaker 1: It's exactly what's it been like to drive around Nashville
- 24:32Speaker 1: or your hometown and be able to turn the radio on.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And that's you're tucked in there between the George Straits
- 24:38Speaker 1: and the Luke Combs and the Lady Wilson's.
- 24:40Speaker 5: It's crazy, man.
- 24:40Speaker 15: That was you know, I grew up probably on the
- 24:43Speaker 15: tail end of like the streaming services were not a
- 24:45Speaker 15: thing when I was a kid learning about music and
- 24:48Speaker 15: fall in love with country music.
- 24:49Speaker 1: It was the radio and so that was you.
- 24:52Speaker 15: Know, that's still in my mind kind of the if
- 24:55Speaker 15: you got a song on the radio, you're somebody sort
- 24:57Speaker 15: of a thing. And so it's it gives me chills
- 24:59Speaker 15: every time I get to hear it on there, and
- 25:02Speaker 15: you know, it's cool to see everybody streaming it and
- 25:04Speaker 15: whatnot too. But it's kind of like there's it's almost
- 25:06Speaker 15: like there's more gatekeepers and taste makers in radio to
- 25:09Speaker 15: where it's kind of a little more of like a
- 25:12Speaker 15: notch in your belt or a feather.
- 25:13Speaker 9: In your cap or whatever you want to say when
- 25:15Speaker 9: you get one on the radio.
- 25:16Speaker 5: So it's really really cool.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Are you looking past this on what you want to
- 25:19Speaker 1: give people next musically?
- 25:21Speaker 15: Oh yeah, always looking past, you know, dropping cryptic hints
- 25:26Speaker 15: stuff like that. Hopefully some more stuff next year.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Can't wait. Man, it sounds like the radio making a
- 25:31Speaker 1: big push. Congratulations on your success, brother, I appreciate you.
- 25:33Speaker 1: CMA coverage continues. It's winning deep with Blake Shelton. First
- 25:36Speaker 1: of all, it's so cool to be able. I'm gonna
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you your flowers. As the kids said,
- 25:40Speaker 1: it is so cool to be able to sit down
- 25:42Speaker 1: and chat and catch up with somebody who has done
- 25:44Speaker 1: this at such a high level for so long.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Oh my god, thank you.
- 25:47Speaker 16: Absolutely, it's you know, it's fun for me at this
- 25:50Speaker 16: time around. I haven't been to one of these, and
- 25:52Speaker 16: probably about ten years, I've just kind of been mia been,
- 25:55Speaker 16: you know, doing my other my other career that I've
- 26:00Speaker 16: finally got a chance to step away from. And it's
- 26:03Speaker 16: fun to be back here again and just being a
- 26:06Speaker 16: country music singer, you know, going back to what this
- 26:10Speaker 16: started out being, you know what I mean.
- 26:13Speaker 1: So obviously you're home a little more, is there is
- 26:16Speaker 1: Gwyn kind of like, wow, I didn't sign a free
- 26:19Speaker 1: to be home this much?
- 26:20Speaker 5: Is there anything you can go do?
- 26:23Speaker 17: You know?
- 26:23Speaker 16: It's funny as as I started slowing down, she's gotten busier,
- 26:29Speaker 16: so maybe I should take the hint. It's like, you know,
- 26:32Speaker 16: she's like, hey, you no, we booked another tour since
- 26:34Speaker 16: you're going to get home.
- 26:37Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 26:37Speaker 16: It's just funny how that's worked out because she's she
- 26:41Speaker 16: didn't step away from the voice, you know, she's still
- 26:43Speaker 16: a regular as far as she's in the rotation, you know,
- 26:46Speaker 16: and this is one of the seasons that she's on.
- 26:49Speaker 16: She just released an album and so she's up in
- 26:52Speaker 16: New York doing all her promotional stuff for a record,
- 26:55Speaker 16: So hadn't seen her in about two weeks, so we're
- 26:57Speaker 16: anxious for Thanksgiving.
- 27:00Speaker 1: We talked a little while ago about your single coming out,
- 27:03Speaker 1: which is Texas. It's awesome now that fans have been
- 27:06Speaker 1: able to hear it, and obviously you are seeing the
- 27:09Speaker 1: numbers move as far as you know radio and streaming
- 27:12Speaker 1: and all that. Are you excited with how it's been
- 27:14Speaker 1: received or is this what you expected?
- 27:18Speaker 12: I didn't know what to expect.
- 27:19Speaker 16: I mean, you always in the back of your mind,
- 27:21Speaker 16: no matter what you say, hope, you know it's gonna
- 27:24Speaker 16: be number one, and you know all this stuff. But
- 27:26Speaker 16: at the same time, I try to be realistic about
- 27:29Speaker 16: what you just said a minute ago, like how long
- 27:31Speaker 16: I've been doing this and and I'm not the new
- 27:35Speaker 16: guy anymore. And you know, it's not like people are
- 27:37Speaker 16: sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for my
- 27:40Speaker 16: next piece of music. Because even if you're a fan
- 27:43Speaker 16: of mine, you're probably to the point where you're like, yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 16: I've got three of your records.
- 27:48Speaker 1: We're good.
- 27:49Speaker 16: You know, I've seen you in concert three times. But
- 27:52Speaker 16: and so it's been received better than I thought, meaning
- 28:02Speaker 16: the interaction with the song. I had a feeling people
- 28:06Speaker 16: would hear the song and not hate it, you know,
- 28:09Speaker 16: but I don't know that I expected the amount of
- 28:13Speaker 16: love that it's received.
- 28:14Speaker 7: You know.
- 28:15Speaker 16: I've released songs for the last ten years. When I
- 28:18Speaker 16: release a song, I don't even hear from my best friends,
- 28:21Speaker 16: like they're like I'll see them somewhere, like, oh, I
- 28:24Speaker 16: like that last song you had. It's like, oh yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 16: why didn't you tell me when it came out when
- 28:28Speaker 16: I was nervous about it, you know. And but on
- 28:30Speaker 16: this one, it's like the old days, Like, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 16: my phone had just exploded with people that I don't
- 28:37Speaker 16: normally hear from saying, man, that's you actually have a
- 28:41Speaker 16: song that's my favorite song right now, you know. And
- 28:43Speaker 16: so that's been exciting to hear, you know, after all
- 28:46Speaker 16: these years, because you never know when your last one
- 28:49Speaker 16: is your last one, you know, you just don't. And
- 28:51Speaker 16: so now I feel like this one's not going to
- 28:54Speaker 16: be my last one.
- 28:55Speaker 5: So it's pretty exciting.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Listen, we know how busy you are, the fact that
- 28:58Speaker 1: you took time out to come visit country radio again.
- 29:00Speaker 1: We appreciate you, man, We're glad to have some new
- 29:03Speaker 1: country music from you.
- 29:04Speaker 16: Proud to be here, buddy, Thank you.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Wade. Cole Schwindell, CMA Madness continues with a guy that
- 29:09Speaker 1: I'm very excited to hang out with. Man, I'm gonna
- 29:11Speaker 1: start with the festivities that just happened in front of
- 29:15Speaker 1: our little on air booth in here. Yeah it was
- 29:17Speaker 1: Cole Schwindell, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, we call them the
- 29:21Speaker 1: Country Luke's and then Drew Balders was in there. What's
- 29:24Speaker 1: it like in a time like this to be cause
- 29:26Speaker 1: y'all don't get time backstage to hang.
- 29:28Speaker 18: Or I mean hardly ever.
- 29:31Speaker 19: Man.
- 29:31Speaker 18: I'll see Luke on the golf course every now and then.
- 29:34Speaker 18: I don't ever really see Luke, Colmbs or Drew Baldris,
- 29:37Speaker 18: but buddies with them. So that is a part of
- 29:39Speaker 18: this week, you know, getting to see all of you.
- 29:41Speaker 18: Then you know, I've seeing your artist buddies that we're
- 29:44Speaker 18: all doing the same thing. We're always on the go,
- 29:46Speaker 18: always busy. So this week I know everybody says it,
- 29:48Speaker 18: but it's the truth. I mean, that's what we all
- 29:50Speaker 18: get to hang out and try to make the most
- 29:53Speaker 18: of our two minutes or whatever they give us.
- 29:54Speaker 1: You know that's right, listen, I can do it. Never mind,
- 29:58Speaker 1: what's well, let's before I move on to music. Who's
- 30:02Speaker 1: the best, because you mentioned golf, who's the best golfer
- 30:04Speaker 1: in country music? And who's the worst golfer in country music?
- 30:06Speaker 18: Oh my gosh, I'll go best, probably Jacob And still
- 30:12Speaker 18: there's some good ones. I mean, Darius and Charles Killer,
- 30:14Speaker 18: they're they're really good.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I feel like my game's gotten good.
- 30:17Speaker 18: But I'm not.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm not the worst.
- 30:18Speaker 18: I'm definitely not the best. The worst gollee man.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Somebody just called out the worst recently, and I forget, No,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I don't really know I have it's a young, it's
- 30:29Speaker 1: a young I'm.
- 30:30Speaker 18: Gonna get It's might not be who you're thinking. But
- 30:33Speaker 18: my buddy, we have a new song, Grayland James, you're
- 30:37Speaker 18: the worst golfer, buddy.
- 30:39Speaker 1: He no, Chris Young said Nate Smith is the worst.
- 30:43Speaker 18: I haven't played with Nate, but when we me and
- 30:45Speaker 18: Nate and Thomas toured together, Nate kept saying, y'all got
- 30:47Speaker 18: to teach me. So hey, he probably doesn't claim to
- 30:50Speaker 18: play it. I've I don't have an excuse. I've played
- 30:52Speaker 18: my whole life, and golf's just God, it's tough, but
- 30:54Speaker 18: I love it. I'm a great spectator. I'll drive for you.
- 30:56Speaker 1: There we go. Yeah. Cole Swindell is seeing some success
- 30:59Speaker 1: on the radio and streaming with your song Forever to Me,
- 31:02Speaker 1: a song that is so close to your heart, maybe
- 31:06Speaker 1: one of the most vulnerable times you've been career wise.
- 31:09Speaker 1: What does it mean that it's connected with people?
- 31:11Speaker 2: For you?
- 31:11Speaker 18: It's awesome, you know, Like I said, I mean to
- 31:14Speaker 18: still be able to do this and for just still
- 31:16Speaker 18: have the support of country radio is amazing. That's what
- 31:18Speaker 18: It's really all I've ever had and the reason I
- 31:20Speaker 18: have fans because you know, the radio is always played
- 31:24Speaker 18: my songs and this one was just one of those
- 31:25Speaker 18: songs that it's personal to me, and I think a
- 31:29Speaker 18: lot of people can, you know, hearing their stories there
- 31:31Speaker 18: Forever to Me stories has been really cool and just
- 31:34Speaker 18: something I haven't done before. So I'm hey, being right
- 31:37Speaker 18: in the point of my life, newly married and getting
- 31:40Speaker 18: to sing about it is every night.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It's pretty cool.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Have you had to tell her, Hey, just a heads up.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Not every song is going to be about you. I did.
- 31:46Speaker 18: I've told people I'm not making a wedding album, but
- 31:48Speaker 18: I do have some spaces on this one for some
- 31:50Speaker 18: love songs. Thank God, finally, so I feel like I've
- 31:54Speaker 18: had enough of the breakup songs and all that. So
- 31:56Speaker 18: it's about time for a love song that I could
- 31:59Speaker 18: write and mean it and sing it and for radio
- 32:02Speaker 18: to play it.
- 32:03Speaker 1: There is Colonelle, Thank you, brother, appreciate it. Always it's
- 32:05Speaker 1: Wayne Dy hanging out with the boys, Dan and Shay
- 32:07Speaker 1: or here. I want to ask you a question. This
- 32:09Speaker 1: is going to be very vulnerable, honest question.
- 32:11Speaker 9: He's looking at our outfits when he says that, He's like, did.
- 32:13Speaker 1: You think about what you're wearing?
- 32:15Speaker 20: Did power go out in your house when you were
- 32:17Speaker 20: getting dressed today?
- 32:18Speaker 1: I mean, listen, I appreciate like you look like you
- 32:20Speaker 1: might be.
- 32:21Speaker 9: Just in case we need to do yeah, just in
- 32:22Speaker 9: case we need to do any work.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And I'm getting like substitute teacher vibe.
- 32:25Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, I am, I'm just kidding. No, I am.
- 32:28Speaker 11: I'm actually subbing today. I'm a kids school. I'm also
- 32:31Speaker 11: I'm also taking over this radio show. And we didn't
- 32:33Speaker 11: know how else to tell you.
- 32:35Speaker 9: The TV that's right. Yeah, yeah, you know, wheeling in.
- 32:38Speaker 1: On both my feet.
- 32:40Speaker 9: Raw, dude, Ladies and gentlemen, we have an injured Wendy
- 32:43Speaker 9: in a house.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Hey, I do want to ask, because we've been lucky enough. Well,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I've been lucky enough to catch up with y' all.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I was trying to say, look how lucky they are,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and I texted you recently. The energy y'all have, it's
- 32:56Speaker 1: like the album came out, the tour hit, and it's
- 33:00Speaker 1: like all new again, right would would that be accurate?
- 33:04Speaker 1: Thank you for saying that.
- 33:05Speaker 11: First of all, it does feel that way to us too,
- 33:08Speaker 11: because we are genuinely having more fun than we have ever.
- 33:12Speaker 11: I think even you know, since the beginning of our career,
- 33:14Speaker 11: there's just a new found appreciation for what we get
- 33:17Speaker 11: to do.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Man.
- 33:17Speaker 11: I feel like you can, you know, go along, you know,
- 33:19Speaker 11: through the years, and you just you know, things kind
- 33:21Speaker 11: of happen, and you get you need to refocus every
- 33:24Speaker 11: once in a while, and I feel like Dan and
- 33:26Speaker 11: I were really able to kind of remind ourselves, like, dude,
- 33:28Speaker 11: this is the greatest thing on planet Earth. We get
- 33:30Speaker 11: to do something in music. We don't have to have
- 33:33Speaker 11: two jobs, and you know, be doing music on the
- 33:35Speaker 11: weekends and working at McDonald's. Like, we get to do
- 33:37Speaker 11: this as a living. That is the craziest thing, you know,
- 33:39Speaker 11: in the world. And we're just grateful to get to
- 33:41Speaker 11: do this. Man, we have people that want to come
- 33:44Speaker 11: see us play. Uh, and we're just we're very thankful
- 33:46Speaker 11: for the fans and for people like you man, honestly,
- 33:48Speaker 11: who have supported us through the years, and we would not.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Be where we are without you to the very beginning.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Let's go, dude, that first picture I got, I'll dude.
- 33:57Speaker 20: Speaking of the facial hair, you got it dies nice.
- 34:00Speaker 20: He was in like a wax or an ol. She
- 34:01Speaker 20: zoomed in for this camera.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yeah, what is it?
- 34:04Speaker 9: What is it?
- 34:04Speaker 1: Balm?
- 34:05Speaker 9: Nice?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Nice? Nice? And and I get it colored regularly.
- 34:09Speaker 9: And here's another detail.
- 34:10Speaker 20: I'm not getting too into it, but like the mustache
- 34:12Speaker 20: is perfectly like trimmed across the front.
- 34:14Speaker 9: That's a huge part of it.
- 34:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm And I love the the bear claw type.
- 34:19Speaker 11: I I aspire to the nice little plump. It goes
- 34:22Speaker 11: this way and then down. It's not just like straight.
- 34:25Speaker 11: You have created body, That's what I'm saying.
- 34:27Speaker 1: And I love that for you.
- 34:29Speaker 11: And by the way he says he colors his beard,
- 34:31Speaker 11: he's talking about the gray.
- 34:32Speaker 1: He does that to act wise. He does that. He
- 34:35Speaker 1: doesn't have any gray hand.
- 34:37Speaker 9: It's a humble guy.
- 34:38Speaker 5: There's a humble guy.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Enjoy all things CMA's boys. I appreciate you so much.
- 34:41Speaker 9: We love you man, thank you for everything.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It's Wayne d It's all things Cmas. And here's the deal.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Russell Diggerson was coming. We're pushing him aside because DASA
- 34:48Speaker 1: has one of the biggest songs of the year. So
- 34:50Speaker 1: Russell Digerson gonna have to wait to say that. Tell
- 34:53Speaker 1: me how nuts this success of this song was because
- 34:55Speaker 1: it had to outperform anything you could have, even yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: are you getting me?
- 35:00Speaker 7: Hit a billion streams overall, a billion a year in
- 35:03Speaker 7: less than a year.
- 35:03Speaker 1: It's just like, oh God, I don't even know what's
- 35:05Speaker 1: going on.
- 35:06Speaker 7: Like I feel so blessed to have this song and
- 35:08Speaker 7: what it did, and like how country music in general
- 35:11Speaker 7: just opened their arms to me and like really helped
- 35:13Speaker 7: pour fuel on this fire.
- 35:15Speaker 1: You say country music, but this song has gotten so big.
- 35:17Speaker 1: I think there's a kids bop version already.
- 35:19Speaker 7: It's in fortnite. We toured the world with this song. Yeah,
- 35:23Speaker 7: it's in Fortnite.
- 35:24Speaker 1: That's got Fortnite takes care of you, right, Yeah, they'll
- 35:28Speaker 1: take care of you. But let me ask at any
- 35:31Speaker 1: point where you like, because any song that is massively
- 35:33Speaker 1: successful and becomes an earworm, at some point you're like,
- 35:36Speaker 1: oh god, this song is everywhere? Yeah, do you feel
- 35:39Speaker 1: that way as the artist? Are you?
- 35:40Speaker 20: Just?
- 35:42Speaker 7: Honestly, I'm so grateful for it and like seeing people's
- 35:44Speaker 7: reactions and how the excited they are when they hear it.
- 35:47Speaker 7: I'm like, oh, it like gets me excited even more.
- 35:49Speaker 7: I feel like every time I listen to Austin or
- 35:51Speaker 7: perform it, I hear like another lyric or like a
- 35:53Speaker 7: little thing I did, I'm like I forgot I did that,
- 35:55Speaker 7: Like that's clever, or like, damn, that's.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Catchy, and I'm like, okay, So let me ask what
- 36:00Speaker 1: type of pressure do you put on yourself to follow up?
- 36:03Speaker 1: Because it's the most ever.
- 36:05Speaker 7: I mean, I'm there's so much new music that I'm
- 36:08Speaker 7: working right now that I'm so proud of and it's
- 36:12Speaker 7: hard because it's really catchy and it's my favorite stuff ever.
- 36:15Speaker 7: And I also have a hit song, a global hit
- 36:18Speaker 7: song that I have to follow up, so it's like, well,
- 36:20Speaker 7: it's not just on the song, it's on the whole
- 36:22Speaker 7: team to step it up.
- 36:23Speaker 1: So collaborations are red hot in country music right now
- 36:27Speaker 1: as you're creating new music. Are there any names that
- 36:29Speaker 1: you are trying to connect with that you can share?
- 36:33Speaker 5: I can share.
- 36:34Speaker 7: I'll share some that are like I would love to
- 36:37Speaker 7: do a song with Casey Musgraves.
- 36:39Speaker 5: I think she She's one of the reasons.
- 36:40Speaker 7: I write the way I write, honestly, so I like
- 36:43Speaker 7: admire her so much for that, So I think doing
- 36:45Speaker 7: a song with her would be amazing. Maybe even a
- 36:47Speaker 7: song with Thomas htt We're gonna be on tour together,
- 36:49Speaker 7: so we'll see.
- 36:50Speaker 1: We're gonna put that on the universe right there. Maybe. Hey, Dasha,
- 36:54Speaker 1: thank you so much appreciation.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Thanks for having me.
- 36:56Speaker 1: We're hanging out all things CMA Awards with Drew Baldridge's
- 37:00Speaker 1: and man, life is nuts for you. Life is crazy
- 37:03Speaker 1: because a couple of years ago you were like, what
- 37:05Speaker 1: am I gonna do?
- 37:06Speaker 21: Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent, And this this year has
- 37:09Speaker 21: been so wild for us, and you know, to think
- 37:12Speaker 21: a year ago, I was just trying to be a
- 37:14Speaker 21: part of CMA awards any any way possible, and you know,
- 37:19Speaker 21: begging to be on radio stations, begging to be on tours,
- 37:23Speaker 21: just trying to get my music hurt anyway possible, being
- 37:25Speaker 21: an independent artist totally, no manager, no agent, no nothing,
- 37:29Speaker 21: just being by ourselves. And you know, this year has
- 37:31Speaker 21: been so monumental to have our first number one and
- 37:34Speaker 21: to think, you know, we get to come into my
- 37:36Speaker 21: first ever CMA Awards with an actual hit. You know,
- 37:38Speaker 21: most of the time, I'm just like sneaking in, right.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Like walking in with a guards can work. Yeah, And
- 37:46Speaker 1: I know you so I can ask this question as
- 37:48Speaker 1: brutally as it sounds, but I mean it with the
- 37:51Speaker 1: best intention. How does it feel to go from losing label,
- 37:56Speaker 1: label and all that right representation on that side and
- 38:00Speaker 1: then to turn things around where they're calling you to
- 38:02Speaker 1: be like, hey want to work together? Yes, man, because
- 38:06Speaker 1: it because give yourself credit. I hope you do because
- 38:09Speaker 1: you did that.
- 38:09Speaker 21: Oh man, well thanks thanks for saying that, buddy. It
- 38:12Speaker 21: has been a it's been a whirlwind of feelings, you know,
- 38:16Speaker 21: of like I told you you know a little bit
- 38:18Speaker 21: of that. I told you so, you know, but no,
- 38:22Speaker 21: it's just also just been like also scary, and a
- 38:25Speaker 21: lot of pressure on the other side of I just
- 38:27Speaker 21: don't want it to go away again. So I feel
- 38:29Speaker 21: a lot of weight of making sure I'm doing everything
- 38:32Speaker 21: right where you know, I don't lose that again, I
- 38:35Speaker 21: don't lose the opportunities that I'm getting, and I want
- 38:37Speaker 21: to just make sure I'm putting out great music and
- 38:39Speaker 21: music that's touching people's hearts, that actually makes an impact.
- 38:42Speaker 21: And so yeah, there's there's a little both sides, a
- 38:45Speaker 21: little bit of like I knew we could do this.
- 38:47Speaker 21: It's it's so much rewarding, just like anybody in life
- 38:50Speaker 21: out there, no matter what you're doing, whatever your job is,
- 38:53Speaker 21: if you do it by yourself and you win, the
- 38:56Speaker 21: reward is bigger than having somebody else do it for you.
- 38:59Speaker 21: And so I feel this reward of like, man, I
- 39:03Speaker 21: really did that. We had our first number one, We
- 39:05Speaker 21: did it independently, nobody's done it before, and so there
- 39:08Speaker 21: is a big, a big like, wow, I knew we
- 39:11Speaker 21: could do this, you know, so so but a lot
- 39:14Speaker 21: of pressure also.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I'm glad it worked out too, because as much as
- 39:17Speaker 1: I appreciate you, you ain't pretty enough for OnlyFans. This
- 39:20Speaker 1: country thing worked out. I love it last thing. Do
- 39:24Speaker 1: you feel pressure now with the follow up single and
- 39:26Speaker 1: whatever music you were focusing on now after this?
- 39:29Speaker 21: Yeah, I definitely. Did you know when we got top
- 39:31Speaker 21: fifteen was She's Somebody's daughter. Everybody in radio and everybody's like,
- 39:35Speaker 21: what's next, What's next?
- 39:35Speaker 2: What's next?
- 39:36Speaker 21: And I had this song tough People that I really
- 39:39Speaker 21: love that we just put out a couple of weeks ago.
- 39:41Speaker 21: And that was a whirlwind song to get because I
- 39:44Speaker 21: recorded it in December and then Luke Combs recorded it
- 39:48Speaker 21: in January and I got to sit in and watch
- 39:51Speaker 21: him record it. There was talks of Laney being on
- 39:53Speaker 21: it with him. Laney was over at my house. She
- 39:55Speaker 21: loved the song. Luke asked to be on it, and
- 39:58Speaker 21: then life happens.
- 39:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 39:59Speaker 21: They had albums put out. He put out a Father's
- 40:02Speaker 21: Day album, He had the Twister song. And I'm sitting
- 40:05Speaker 21: over here like waiting on my next single, and this
- 40:07Speaker 21: is my favorite one. You know, I'm sitting on my
- 40:09Speaker 21: favorite song. So I just call him say, hey, man,
- 40:13Speaker 21: I don't know what you're doing. This is my follow up.
- 40:15Speaker 21: It has to be the best song I've ever put out,
- 40:16Speaker 21: and this is it. Like, if you want to do it,
- 40:18Speaker 21: it's great. But if you know, if you're in limbo
- 40:20Speaker 21: and you don't know when your next album is like,
- 40:22Speaker 21: let me know. And he hit me right back. He's
- 40:24Speaker 21: just like, man, you wrote the song, you should sing it.
- 40:27Speaker 21: And so that was really really cool of him. And
- 40:29Speaker 21: now you know, it took me five months for She's
- 40:32Speaker 21: Somebody's Daughter to chart, and this song charted in the
- 40:34Speaker 21: first week, which is crazy to think about, and it's
- 40:37Speaker 21: climbing faster at radio than I've ever had anything do that.
- 40:40Speaker 1: By the way, when you're doing an interview with somebody
- 40:42Speaker 1: and they use the word charted, you kind of have
- 40:43Speaker 1: to do a double take. Oh totally totally, Drew Bald,
- 40:48Speaker 1: thanks for coming back. Thanks, I appreciate you. Man. Amazing
- 40:52Speaker 1: it's Wayne d CMA Awards are here. This season has
- 40:55Speaker 1: officially kicked off, and my man, Dylan Marlowe is all
- 40:58Speaker 1: in it deeper than ever, man, because you got a
- 41:00Speaker 1: big old song on country radios.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Hey, such a blessed dude.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I gotta ask because you're somebody who has written a
- 41:06Speaker 1: lot of songs leading up to this moment, and you've
- 41:09Speaker 1: written for other people as well. Before we ever knew
- 41:12Speaker 1: your name, right, Yeah, what are some of those right
- 41:14Speaker 1: stories that kind of turned you into like, hey, I'm
- 41:16Speaker 1: hanging out to these ones for me?
- 41:18Speaker 19: Yeah, probably just having to like take a leave of
- 41:22Speaker 19: faith in my own career and say, you know, I
- 41:24Speaker 19: could keep pitching these songs to other people. And I
- 41:26Speaker 19: always I never intended on writing songs for anybody else.
- 41:29Speaker 19: It just kind of they started finding their homes and
- 41:32Speaker 19: uh so I kind of had to be like, all right,
- 41:33Speaker 19: I'm keeping this one, you know. I think we were
- 41:36Speaker 19: about to pitch Boys back Home even and I was like,
- 41:38Speaker 19: now we just need to I'm gonna keep this one,
- 41:40Speaker 19: and thankfully I did kind of taught me a good lesson.
- 41:43Speaker 1: So let me ask you this because it feels like
- 41:46Speaker 1: an anthem song, which we talked about before. Yeah, was
- 41:49Speaker 1: it like, hey, this is the single? Like there was
- 41:52Speaker 1: no there was no other competition.
- 41:55Speaker 19: I mean, we had a song out called Record High, uh,
- 41:58Speaker 19: and we were going to go radio with that, and
- 42:00Speaker 19: at the last second we didn't, and so we were
- 42:03Speaker 19: kind of just you know what's next, and Boys back
- 42:06Speaker 19: Home was ready to go because we were gonna put
- 42:09Speaker 19: it out a little earlier. But Dylan had a record
- 42:11Speaker 19: coming out, and so it just didn't make sense to
- 42:13Speaker 19: put one out with his record coming out, and.
- 42:15Speaker 5: So, you know, a few months after that sounded like shay.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, god forbid, we'll do interviews here and they're on
- 42:22Speaker 1: I think they're singing on Broadway from lunch Money right now,
- 42:25Speaker 1: and yeah, it just.
- 42:27Speaker 19: We we posted about it on TikTok and kind of
- 42:30Speaker 19: blew up on there, which is I try not to
- 42:33Speaker 19: really get on there too much, but I'm not mad
- 42:35Speaker 19: about it.
- 42:35Speaker 5: And uh, then we were like, hey, this has definitely got.
- 42:37Speaker 1: To be the one. So so what are the CMA
- 42:40Speaker 1: Awards like this time around for you? Obviously the big
- 42:42Speaker 1: show is Wednesday, but what's what's the scene like for
- 42:44Speaker 1: you that life is now, that life is literally completely different,
- 42:48Speaker 1: uh from a year ago?
- 42:49Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I'm about to find out.
- 42:52Speaker 19: This is my first one. So I just learned that you.
- 42:55Speaker 19: Somebody was like, what are you? Who are you going
- 42:57Speaker 19: to talk to? Who are you looking forward to talking
- 42:58Speaker 19: to during the commercial break? And I was like, do
- 43:01Speaker 19: you talked during the commercial break? So like, yeah, you
- 43:03Speaker 19: get up and talk to somebody. And I was like, oh,
- 43:04Speaker 19: I don't know. I didn't know.
- 43:06Speaker 1: That I went last year, my daughter went with me
- 43:08Speaker 1: and Matthew Ramsey from Old Dominion walk by and she
- 43:11Speaker 1: goes and then the Golden Bachelor guy. I guess I'm
- 43:14Speaker 1: not huh, so there's it's like Bachelor for old guys.
- 43:18Speaker 1: So but she was like, oh, and so there's some
- 43:22Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, So who do you hope to talk
- 43:24Speaker 1: to during the commercial.
- 43:25Speaker 5: During the commercial break?
- 43:27Speaker 19: If Eric Church walked by, I would definitely like probably
- 43:29Speaker 19: talk to him.
- 43:30Speaker 1: He's gonna be here in a little bit, is he.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna record that whole thing. God dude, he's my
- 43:34Speaker 1: like be do something awkward, be memorable.
- 43:38Speaker 19: When I see Yeah, I feel like that's the only
- 43:41Speaker 19: person I would kind of like be like, oh crap,
- 43:43Speaker 19: that's that's Eric Church. Like most people, I don't really care,
- 43:46Speaker 19: Like I don't really gets other.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Than you and probably Eric Church.
- 43:51Speaker 19: But that's just like, you know, when I got into
- 43:55Speaker 19: country music and started listening to the way he wrote songs, like,
- 43:58Speaker 19: I feel like I had this meter in my head
- 43:59Speaker 19: now for when I cut a song, I'm like, dang,
- 44:02Speaker 19: what would not like would Air Church cut this?
- 44:04Speaker 5: Because his Thingk's completely different?
- 44:05Speaker 19: But like I have this like par now just from
- 44:08Speaker 19: listening to all his stuff, like Okay, it's got to
- 44:09Speaker 19: at least make me feel like this for me to
- 44:11Speaker 19: put the song out so like, I feel like I
- 44:14Speaker 19: all that to him.
- 44:14Speaker 1: So let's get it. Well, I'm we're putting it in
- 44:17Speaker 1: the universe that Dyla Marl is about to run an
- 44:19Speaker 1: our church shortly here. Let's get I get good to
- 44:21Speaker 1: see it. Brother, you too, bro CMA's are here and
- 44:25Speaker 1: you can't celebrate dang find country music without Chris Jansen.
- 44:28Speaker 12: H thank you.
- 44:30Speaker 1: How's life? You're making some great music right now. I
- 44:32Speaker 1: mean you always are.
- 44:33Speaker 17: Thank you dude. Well, what you see is what you
- 44:35Speaker 17: get's doing good. We're thankful for that. It's in the
- 44:37Speaker 17: twenties on the chart. I also just released a new
- 44:39Speaker 17: single that's people are loving man. They like I can't
- 44:42Speaker 17: believe how much love is coming off of it. With
- 44:45Speaker 17: cheap time makes money look cheap. We've talked about this
- 44:47Speaker 17: multiple times on and off record, like you can't buy
- 44:50Speaker 17: back the time, man, you can't buy the memories. And
- 44:53Speaker 17: as you know, well, I'm that kind of guy and
- 44:55Speaker 17: that kind of husband and father and man, and so
- 44:59Speaker 17: I'm proud of that. And I didn't even tell you this,
- 45:01Speaker 17: I don't think but I cut Christmas in Dixie because
- 45:04Speaker 17: we needed a Christmas song.
- 45:05Speaker 12: I want to do it Christmas EP.
- 45:07Speaker 17: I wanted to package the last couple of years of
- 45:08Speaker 17: my Christmas songs together, and so I cut the song.
- 45:12Speaker 1: We love it.
- 45:12Speaker 17: We cuted the cabin in the country and then we
- 45:15Speaker 17: were trigger treating and I said, Kelly, I'm.
- 45:18Speaker 12: Gonna call Randio and she was like, yeah, I do it.
- 45:20Speaker 12: So I called him.
- 45:21Speaker 17: I said, hey, Randy, I'd love for you to join
- 45:23Speaker 17: me on this. He was trigger treating with his grandkid's
- 45:25Speaker 17: so awesome, and he called Teddy that is Alabama, and
- 45:28Speaker 17: I said, I want you guys to join me.
- 45:30Speaker 12: Not a collaboration, but like a duet.
- 45:31Speaker 17: I really do it, and they were so gracious and
- 45:35Speaker 17: so that was on Friday. Then they recorded on Monday,
- 45:38Speaker 17: and we recorded a video and it comes out November
- 45:41Speaker 17: twenty second next week, and I'm super stoked about it. Man,
- 45:43Speaker 17: I gotta tell you, it's one of my favorite things
- 45:46Speaker 17: I've ever done. And it sounds I mean, I'm not
- 45:48Speaker 17: to brag on myself, but they sound amazing.
- 45:51Speaker 1: That's awesome, man. I can't wait to hear it. Thank you.
- 45:53Speaker 1: You are not a guy who has and I don't
- 45:55Speaker 1: want to say you're rushing music out but you've never
- 45:57Speaker 1: rushed music out there. No, never know. But there's something
- 45:59Speaker 1: real that has you putting out Yeah, like.
- 46:03Speaker 12: I feel like it. I just feel like I don't know, man.
- 46:06Speaker 12: I well, I just uh.
- 46:07Speaker 17: I went through a little bit of a hiatus, Like
- 46:09Speaker 17: I wrote really hard for the record with All I
- 46:11Speaker 17: Need is You, What you see is what you get,
- 46:13Speaker 17: those kind of things, and it's like.
- 46:16Speaker 12: I just got back in songwriting mode.
- 46:18Speaker 17: I mean Mitch Oglesby, one of my the collaborator who
- 46:21Speaker 17: I wrote Done with, who I wrote All I Need
- 46:22Speaker 17: Is You with, whoever read Nick Life with, who wrote
- 46:24Speaker 17: Country On for Luke and so many other hits. One
- 46:27Speaker 17: of my best buddies in life. He was like, CJ,
- 46:30Speaker 17: you got it. We got to get to work, man,
- 46:31Speaker 17: we got to get to work. And you know me,
- 46:33Speaker 17: it's like like pulling tea sometimes said I'm touring all
- 46:37Speaker 17: the time and I want to do it, and then
- 46:39Speaker 17: I finally just did it and I gave in.
- 46:41Speaker 12: And that's how I am.
- 46:42Speaker 17: Whenever I get drug into songwriting. Right in one of
- 46:46Speaker 17: those brief moments, I don't feel like doing it, which
- 46:48Speaker 17: sounds so pitiful, but then I'm like full fledged in.
- 46:52Speaker 17: It's like cigars and me. You know, it's like I
- 46:54Speaker 17: quit Mountain Dew and then I go extra hard on cigars.
- 46:58Speaker 17: So with songwriting, man, I've just been cranking songs seit.
- 47:00Speaker 17: I've written like I don't know, I've written like twenty
- 47:02Speaker 17: new songs in the last month.
- 47:04Speaker 12: Yeah, and uh, and.
- 47:06Speaker 17: So I just wanted to start putting them out and
- 47:08Speaker 17: that's it, and like you can do that now.
- 47:09Speaker 12: So that's that's what we're doing.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Well, we're loving it. And she was fantastic and obviously
- 47:14Speaker 1: what you see is what you get. Finally took a minute,
- 47:16Speaker 1: but here we go. Everybody's finally catching up. Yeah to
- 47:20Speaker 1: the big old song again.
- 47:21Speaker 17: Well, I appreciate that, thank you, and uh, I appreciate
- 47:24Speaker 17: all the support. I mean that's personally thank you. And uh,
- 47:27Speaker 17: you know, hey, man, iheart's been good to me.
- 47:28Speaker 12: I'm an I heeart guy. From the very beginning. Let's
- 47:30Speaker 12: not forget that I wasn't on the verge.
- 47:32Speaker 20: Guy.
- 47:32Speaker 17: I wasn't on the verge. Guy before on the verge
- 47:34Speaker 17: was a thing, and uh, and then I was on
- 47:36Speaker 17: the verge. You know with boat and and uh so,
- 47:39Speaker 17: like you know, without iheartman's support, I wouldn't be where
- 47:42Speaker 17: I'm at. And I recognize it, and I appreciate it,
- 47:44Speaker 17: always will appreciate it, always have and and uh, you're right,
- 47:47Speaker 17: some things take a minute. But once they start hitting
- 47:50Speaker 17: their stride, they start hitting their stride and we're hitting
- 47:52Speaker 17: our stride.
- 47:53Speaker 12: So I'm I'm happy.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Christians is hanging. I appreciate you, brother, I appreciate you.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Man the man of the hour. He's back doing the
- 47:59Speaker 1: dang thing. It's Wayne d you hanging with Luke Bryant
- 48:01Speaker 1: all things cmas. Is it going to be weird for
- 48:03Speaker 1: you one day when this show is happening and you're
- 48:05Speaker 1: not there?
- 48:07Speaker 21: Well, uh, you know, yeah, I mean it's all I
- 48:10Speaker 21: often think about if I'm not judging idle and if
- 48:13Speaker 21: I'm not, I don't know.
- 48:16Speaker 12: It's it's uh you you.
- 48:18Speaker 21: Fall in love with with being a part of this,
- 48:20Speaker 21: and because as a kid, you know, I dreamed.
- 48:23Speaker 12: Of being in these situations where.
- 48:27Speaker 21: To have been even at the CMA's and then to
- 48:29Speaker 21: win a CMA and then to host it and all that.
- 48:31Speaker 21: So it's just pretty wild that this has become my reality.
- 48:38Speaker 21: And uh so, yeah, I think if I'm ever at
- 48:40Speaker 21: home and other people are hosting, uh, it'll you know, it'll,
- 48:44Speaker 21: but it won't be you know. I think I won't
- 48:46Speaker 21: be bitter about stuff. I don't want to be the
- 48:48Speaker 21: old bitter person that's mad because things are the way
- 48:52Speaker 21: they not, you know what I'm saying. I don't want
- 48:55Speaker 21: to ever get in that spot. I mean, I'll probably
- 48:56Speaker 21: be in a deer stand. I'd have to watch it
- 48:59Speaker 21: from a deer stand.
- 49:00Speaker 1: So, uh, last thing I want to ask is award
- 49:02Speaker 1: show related? You know what it's like to be nominating,
- 49:05Speaker 1: know what it's like to win, you know what it's
- 49:06Speaker 1: like to have number ones in salad arenas, but in
- 49:08Speaker 1: that host seat. What's something you've been able to appreciate
- 49:11Speaker 1: about the award show process that as an artist you
- 49:14Speaker 1: you would have never known about.
- 49:16Speaker 21: Well, what's great about it is when you when you
- 49:20Speaker 21: have artists that are backstage and these are the these
- 49:25Speaker 21: are the inner workings of their biggest moments ever. And
- 49:28Speaker 21: I get to be back there as they go out
- 49:31Speaker 21: on stage and and you know, you got your people
- 49:34Speaker 21: like me. Now, it's like I walk out there, I'm comfortable.
- 49:37Speaker 21: I do my songs. But then when you see younger accent,
- 49:40Speaker 21: this is their first biggest moment. I mean I remember
- 49:45Speaker 21: when I was asked to like present my first award,
- 49:48Speaker 21: just presenting, I was freaking out. So when when you
- 49:51Speaker 21: can watch these people really working hard to take their
- 49:56Speaker 21: career to another level, it's pretty special. In the CMA
- 49:58Speaker 21: Awards is a big moment to do that.
- 50:01Speaker 1: It's awesome. Luke Bryan, thank you man and c MA
- 50:03Speaker 1: Matt continues, Wayne d and the one and only Luke Combs.
- 50:06Speaker 1: So I gotta ask you we could talk music and
- 50:10Speaker 1: I respect the music, and yeah, nothing but bangers is
- 50:13Speaker 1: what I'm gonna say. Maybe maybe that's an album name.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Moving forward, Uh, hit me with the bar because we
- 50:20Speaker 1: haven't caught up since the bar opened. How are you
- 50:22Speaker 1: feeling now that it's wide open and fans are wrong?
- 50:24Speaker 11: Oh?
- 50:24Speaker 2: Man, it's great.
- 50:25Speaker 22: The reception has been really, really good.
- 50:28Speaker 11: You know.
- 50:28Speaker 22: I think people were like, oh, you're gonna take the
- 50:30Speaker 22: dance floor out of the you know, and it's like, no,
- 50:32Speaker 22: we're not doing that. It it turned out really well.
- 50:36Speaker 22: The food one of my favorite parts for sure. The
- 50:39Speaker 22: wings are insane. I love the wings, but it's just
- 50:42Speaker 22: goodbyes Man. It's really well done, you know, Rhyme and Group,
- 50:46Speaker 22: all those folks, and they just crush everything they do.
- 50:48Speaker 22: So I'm just proud to have an awesome partner in them.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Is it something that you want to turn into a
- 50:53Speaker 1: home musically at some point where maybe maybe I would
- 50:56Speaker 1: love a handful of shows.
- 50:57Speaker 22: I would love to do something like that in future,
- 50:59Speaker 22: you know, whenever that. Whenever that happens, you know, I'll
- 51:02Speaker 22: be excited to do it there for sure.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Good deal. Cmas are here? Something you look forward to
- 51:06Speaker 1: anytime this time of year?
- 51:07Speaker 2: Is man?
- 51:08Speaker 22: I feel like just seeing people you don't get to
- 51:09Speaker 22: see a lot, you know, whether that's you guys and
- 51:12Speaker 22: radio or artists and commercial breaks at the show. It's like,
- 51:15Speaker 22: you know, we don't really all get to spend any
- 51:17Speaker 22: considerable amount of time together, so it's nice to be
- 51:19Speaker 22: able to have everyone in one location and be able
- 51:22Speaker 22: to catch up.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Man, congratulations on everything that. Thank you, I appreciate it. Guys,
- 51:25Speaker 1: take a picture, hang it out with Mitchell tenpenny. Uh, listen,
- 51:31Speaker 1: have you let it sink in? I know this is
- 51:33Speaker 1: like the most asked question of the whole dang thing.
- 51:35Speaker 14: Yeah, I no, Sorry, I thought you were talking about
- 51:38Speaker 14: something else. Have you let it sink in that we're
- 51:41Speaker 14: here but getting no, it's a man, It truly is
- 51:44Speaker 14: an honor. I don't think it'll hit me t im
- 51:46Speaker 14: walking the carpets, seen all, seeing everybody. It's I've never
- 51:49Speaker 14: been nominated for sing of a It's it truly is
- 51:53Speaker 14: an honor to be acknowledged by your peers, like this
- 51:55Speaker 14: is the biggest night for country music, and so I'm
- 51:58Speaker 14: very excited to be a part of it.
- 51:59Speaker 1: He as somebody who loves and respects you for you
- 52:02Speaker 1: and your work.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I will say, what the hell took so long? But
- 52:06Speaker 1: it's fine, man, I'll take it man.
- 52:09Speaker 14: And again, yeah, I know I'm not the newest of
- 52:11Speaker 14: new artists in the world, but it just takes a
- 52:14Speaker 14: while sometimes. And again, I'm just honored to be acknowledged.
- 52:17Speaker 1: That's a take me through that process. Anything that takes
- 52:21Speaker 1: time is frustrating, because, especially in twenty twenty four, the
- 52:24Speaker 1: world is a give it to me now world, Yes
- 52:27Speaker 1: it is. How do you keep yourself like now, I'm
- 52:29Speaker 1: doing the right thing and it'll happen.
- 52:30Speaker 14: Man, To be honest, it's been playing shows, playing live
- 52:33Speaker 14: shows and hearing people doing me and greets, having people
- 52:37Speaker 14: come up and tell you their stories how your music's
- 52:41Speaker 14: affected them. Hearing people singing back songs, just talking to
- 52:44Speaker 14: the real world and not this thing right here.
- 52:47Speaker 1: It's very healthy.
- 52:48Speaker 14: I'm trying to get out of this thing and get
- 52:50Speaker 14: to people, and that's been a blessing this year to
- 52:52Speaker 14: get to do that and to really hear real stories
- 52:54Speaker 14: and see what's actually going on in seat of this
- 52:57Speaker 14: stuff that's not real.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Listen, we are coming up on Thanksgiving. Let me ask you, Uh,
- 53:02Speaker 1: there is a healthy debate between Tay Hamilton and myself. Okay,
- 53:07Speaker 1: she says stuffing is the best side, and I feel
- 53:09Speaker 1: like that's the Walmart answer. That's like generic, that's like
- 53:14Speaker 1: let me get let me get you like vanilla. I
- 53:15Speaker 1: scream too. No, it's sweet potato casserole. Sweet potatoes are
- 53:20Speaker 1: my jam.
- 53:21Speaker 14: I'm not a sweet potato or a stuffing. I'm sorry,
- 53:23Speaker 14: what's wrong with you? It's mac and cheese that's the best.
- 53:27Speaker 1: But let me ask, is this like a family recipe?
- 53:29Speaker 14: Are you just saying like, yeah, my aunt makes up
- 53:32Speaker 14: She'll bake rich crackers over the top of it, give
- 53:34Speaker 14: a little texture, but all the cheeses, like five cheeses.
- 53:37Speaker 1: It's nuts.
- 53:38Speaker 14: But I'm not. I my family and my brother everyone
- 53:41Speaker 14: loves stuffing. But I've never been a.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Sweet potato guy. I don't know why.
- 53:45Speaker 14: I don't know why I love I love regular potatoes
- 53:47Speaker 14: with salt and butter.
- 53:48Speaker 1: The wild thing is, I'm like mildly offended, and I
- 53:51Speaker 1: don't know why. I'm he never had them, or you
- 53:55Speaker 1: just don't like them.
- 53:56Speaker 14: I'm man, I I just don't like the French fries.
- 53:57Speaker 14: Maybe I need to just do the I don't think
- 53:59Speaker 14: I've ever actually eating like.
