Transcript
- 0:13Hello, welcome or welcome back to that Gen.
- 0:17X Friend podcast. Forgive me if I sound a little,
- 0:23I don't know, emotionally heightened right now.
- 0:27That's actually exactly I think this is very appropriate, the
- 0:30topic that I'm covering. So, but before I start, sorry I
- 0:36got a little distracted squirrel.
- 0:38If you listen to my last podcast, I talked about always
- 0:43being distracted. Anyways, I'm back.
- 0:47So before I start, as usual, I want to give a shout out to MB
- 0:51Radio for give me a platform to share, to share some of these
- 0:58life experiences. And wow, life is unpredictable
- 1:07for sure, for sure. So today's topic is about having
- 1:16an appropriate emotional response to whatever situation
- 1:21that you're encountering, right? So when I first started, I was a
- 1:25little, like I said, I think I said emotionally heightened,
- 1:31which is true because I'll just kind of describe to you the
- 1:36situation. I have lived basically the last
- 1:43week without electricity because the area that I lived in or that
- 1:48I'm living in had been declared a disaster zone due to a weather
- 1:53unprecedented weather event, right?
- 1:56How many times? How many more times can we live
- 1:58through another unprecedented blah blah blah.
- 2:01Please, dear God help us all. Anyways, so I've been since
- 2:08getting my power back. Thank God for that.
- 2:11Never have I been so happy to take a, you know, hot bath.
- 2:20Anyways, enough about that. So I've been trying to catch up
- 2:24doing a lot of stuff, you know, and also a lot of stuff that I
- 2:29normally do I'm I'm needing to do too.
- 2:32So I went out this morning as usual early in the morning so I
- 2:38don't pass out from heat exhaustion to mow my lawn.
- 2:43But it took a little bit longer than usual because I had to deal
- 2:47with unplanned lawn care issues. So also my allergies are going
- 2:55crazy. So I'm so sorry guys.
- 2:59So but I had planned to record this a lot earlier first.
- 3:08I usually am up between anywhere between like 12:00 AM or like
- 3:16fully awake right? Because I'm just so exhausted, I
- 3:19can't sleep. And actually I was able to kind
- 3:23of stay in bed and not be so peeved that I was just get up
- 3:29sometimes. I always just stay up.
- 3:31But I was able to stay in bed until 4:00 in the morning.
- 3:33Yeah, so, so that's usually my, when I want to get up to get
- 3:40things started. So I didn't, I was like, yay, I
- 3:44got up, you know, I, I got to stay in bed and not be so mad
- 3:48that I didn't sleep all night. And at least I was able to close
- 3:52my eyes and just rest my eyes. So like, yes, I'm getting
- 3:56started properly. I do my thing.
- 3:59I put a load of wash into the washer because I hadn't been
- 4:03able to wash clothes either. So wash them clothes and dear
- 4:07Lord, the washer registers uneven load.
- 4:15You know, when it makes the clunking sound, it's like, Oh my
- 4:17God, I think it's about the break.
- 4:19It's clunking and it stops, it beeps, it keeps running the
- 4:22water. So I go down there like I think
- 4:25three times in a row to fix it. And you know, until the third
- 4:31time it kept doing it. So that added another like half
- 4:36an hour of my time that I had already put into my mind when
- 4:40things going to get get done. Because I've done this so much,
- 4:44I typically know how much time every task needs.
- 4:50So I'm I'm already peeing right? Like, no, no, no, you can.
- 4:57If this is what's going to happen, you're going to have to
- 4:59deal with it. So I, I calm myself down, get
- 5:03myself out there as it's getting light.
- 5:08So I'm all along, like I said, and I had to deal with some
- 5:12extra stuff because that's just what happens.
- 5:16So then I come upstairs, I'm like, OK, you know what?
- 5:18That took a little bit longer. That's OK.
- 5:20It's still early enough where I can not feel rushed because I'm
- 5:27one of those people. Punctuality is my thing.
- 5:30When I say I'm going to be there, I'm going to be there.
- 5:32I would rather sit there five hours early than to be one
- 5:36second late. I, I, I'm pretty sure.
- 5:40Well, my parents raised me that way, but the military made me
- 5:42even more so, like OCD about being on time.
- 5:47So I have this internal clock that happens that has this sort
- 5:53of silent alarm that goes off regardless of the task.
- 5:57I'm going to do it like once I put into my mind that clock
- 6:02starts to run down and when I don't make the time, I feel
- 6:06rushed and I feel bad. I feel guilty because I'm, I
- 6:11feel like I'm wasting time or I didn't do it properly or
- 6:14something, especially when it has to do with somebody else.
- 6:18I, I don't want to waste other people's time and nor do I want
- 6:21to waste mine. So I come by the end, I clean
- 6:25myself up and I'm opening my laptop to record.
- 6:30But because I haven't had power, all these things are happening
- 6:33with my laptop. It's saying you have to restart,
- 6:36you have to download this, you have to upgrade this.
- 6:38All these things are happening, right?
- 6:42And so I'm like, Oh my God. So it's adding on to the fuel
- 6:47where the laundry delayed it, the lawn mowing delayed it.
- 6:52Like now it's an hour or more added on top of my time, pushing
- 6:58my time to the right than what I had thought I had when I first
- 7:03started this morning. So I'm sitting here and like
- 7:08shit, oh God, do I have to do this?
- 7:10Fine, I have to do this because you know your computer won't run
- 7:13properly if you don't do the proper updates.
- 7:16So it's been a week without power.
- 7:18So now I'm having to do all these things I didn't even think
- 7:22about I had to do. So I sit here, I do the upgrade
- 7:27and I'm still remaining calm. Granted that alarm clock, if you
- 7:31know how I think they actually make these like, or is it a meme
- 7:37where they make these alarm clocks that start either shaking
- 7:40their bed or maybe pushing you a little and the later it gets
- 7:45like the ones that push you will start punching you, The ones
- 7:50that shake you a little bit will start shaking your bed.
- 7:53I wonder if that's so real because that would be really
- 7:55funny because that's what it feels like inside me, right?
- 7:58It's like I'm being pummeled now, like you're late.
- 8:01Oh my God, so emotionally heightened.
- 8:06And it's so odd because this is the topic I'm trying to cover.
- 8:10And as I'm writing the the little write up that we do, I
- 8:16think, wow, you know, I I really need to get hold of myself.
- 8:21What examples can I give? So I guess God's like, here you
- 8:27go, here's a perfect example, your own life.
- 8:30Look at what you're doing now you're freaking out.
- 8:32So I download everything, restart, and I'm getting
- 8:36anxious. And as I restart stuff, the one
- 8:42thing that really bugs me is that iCloud, because I use
- 8:46iCloud for storage. I don't know why it kicks me
- 8:50off, it pops up, but I was having a lot of tech issues
- 8:56prior to this year because it would just kept popping up and
- 9:00I'm like, Oh my God, please, please don't let it be one of
- 9:03these issues. So I had to rethink my thought
- 9:09process because I was freaking out.
- 9:11I'm like God, because I was getting frustrated and like, do
- 9:14I have to do this now? Why is it every time I have
- 9:18something planned, something else always happens, right?
- 9:24So perfect. So as I'm sitting here
- 9:30reflecting, this is the after actions, right?
- 9:33Because I'm actually recording this now.
- 9:39Was it? Did I have to?
- 9:42Was my emotionals? Because the emotionals, Wow, I'm
- 9:46losing my ability to speak. Also, my emotions that were
- 9:50attached to being late, were they appropriate for that
- 9:54situation or for this situation? For each situation, when I woke
- 10:00up, did a little laundry, yeah, you knew sometimes that your
- 10:05washer will get this uneven load thing and this is just what
- 10:10happens. Granted, I didn't even wash that
- 10:13many things because I knew this was going to happen and I had
- 10:16carefully placed everything to make sure that to balance the
- 10:20load. But it kept happening and it
- 10:22kept irking me and irking me. And instead of not getting
- 10:27frustrated, I was getting emotionally involved with a
- 10:31thing. An inanimate object that had it
- 10:36was just doing his thing and it was just registering whatever is
- 10:41registering. And I let the third time, by the
- 10:45third time I went downstairs to do what I needed to do.
- 10:49I was so frustrated I I sort of took a shortcut.
- 10:54There was something else I plan to do I didn't do right.
- 10:57I finally fixing it. I went straight from fixing my
- 11:02laundry into going out to mow the lawn because I didn't want
- 11:08to wait for later in case it got hot and also because rain has
- 11:13been forecasted through I think this whole week.
- 11:18And because, oh guys, my house is on the market.
- 11:22Great. So I still have to maintain this
- 11:26house, but I usually do this anyways.
- 11:28I have to make sure the lawns mowed and I don't want to catch
- 11:32another day of rain, so I can't mow it.
- 11:34So I go from that into adding anxiety into my head, right?
- 11:40The emotion of Oh my God, I have to do this.
- 11:42If I don't do this, what's going to happen?
- 11:44I was catastrophizing the the lay of this task, the lawn
- 11:51mowing. And also in the back of my mind,
- 11:54this recording stuff came in too emotionally.
- 11:59I could have just took a deep breath and said, yeah, this is
- 12:07what's going to happen. Me freaking out, me getting all
- 12:11anxious and frustrated. And you know, when we get
- 12:14frustrated, we're like, oh, this sucks to me.
- 12:16Sometimes people throw stuff or you or you just walk around,
- 12:19you're slamming doors, you're not being careful.
- 12:22And whatever you, you project a lot of this stuff out into the
- 12:27task you're doing or inanimate objects.
- 12:30Like for example, some people, if they're mowing the lawn,
- 12:34right, you could just you're picking up your gear and you're
- 12:38slamming it down. I didn't do that.
- 12:40But that's adding emotions to a task that you don't have to.
- 12:46I try to calm myself because when I'm mowing the lawn, I, I
- 12:50try to be present because I, I don't want to like mow a whole
- 12:55lawn. And having discovered that I
- 12:58didn't mow this one strip and there's, you know, these long
- 13:00grass and then everything else is mowed.
- 13:02I've done that before. So I've learned when I'm mowing
- 13:06the lawn, I should be present. But because it took a little bit
- 13:10longer, it's sort of, even though I consciously try to
- 13:14suppress, right? I try to suppress this instead
- 13:18of working it out in my mind, like, what are you going to do?
- 13:23How does any of these emotions add to it?
- 13:25Is it appropriate? Sure, you can be frustrated
- 13:28mentally. Oh my God, why does this have to
- 13:31happen? Sure, get it out, voice it.
- 13:34Don't suppress it because that's what I did.
- 13:37Because you're not letting it out, you're not airing it out,
- 13:40and you're just like, suck it up.
- 13:42Well, some emotions are appropriate.
- 13:46Getting frustrated? Sure.
- 13:49Experience it. Let it go.
- 13:51Me, I suppressed it. I was holding on to it in the
- 13:54back of my head, you know that. Yeah, the silent films, or maybe
- 14:00not even silent ones. All this stuff was all in my
- 14:04head and I was walking around doing my thing and feeling this
- 14:10anxiety build and build and build and without acknowledging
- 14:13it, which, you know, not a good thing, right?
- 14:17So I come in like, oh, OK, I can do this now.
- 14:22I can go clean up and still have time.
- 14:24Now I'm getting hungry, I'm tired, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:30Yeah. I take a deep breath.
- 14:32I clean up, turn on my computer. Should have known, Should have
- 14:35remembered, because I've done this long enough that after not
- 14:40turning on your computer, some stuff might take some time.
- 14:43And that adds to me feeling even more frustrated.
- 14:49Appropriate, you can say. Yeah, maybe, but it should be
- 14:59fleeting, the additional OK, when I felt frustrated, yeah,
- 15:04that's a normal response. Sure, when you're
- 15:06inconvenienced, you feel frustrated, But if you logically
- 15:09work it out in your mind, you're like, what can I do?
- 15:13I have to do these tasks. These things are sequential.
- 15:16Like I turn on my computer, it says it needs to be updated.
- 15:20Sure, you're frustrated, but then let it go.
- 15:23It's the emotions that after the frustration, I was like
- 15:28internally beating myself up, like, Oh my God, why do I have
- 15:32to do this? That I picked the wrong day to
- 15:34record this and I'm feeling even more rushed that that stuff is
- 15:40not appropriate at all. It just made me even more
- 15:43anxious. It like astronomically made
- 15:48things feel worse within my own mind.
- 15:53I still had to do this. I'm still going to do it.
- 15:55So what if it got pushed maybe an hour to the to the right?
- 16:00Well, it, it does matter. But The thing is, I can move
- 16:03tasks that I had to, I planned around today to accommodate for
- 16:08this stuff, right? But I didn't think about that.
- 16:11I was just lamenting. Not only was I frustrated, I was
- 16:15in my head bitching and complaining like, Oh my God, why
- 16:19do I have to deal with this? Those emotions to me are not
- 16:25appropriate looking back on it, right?
- 16:28But it's so easy to get caught in the moment and let all this
- 16:32stuff avalanche because the initial feeling that we get from
- 16:40whatever situation we're encountering, right could be
- 16:48appropriate. But it's the pile on afterward,
- 16:51after you feel the initial response that can make it so
- 16:55much worse. Like I did, like right now, my
- 16:58heart is still sort of pounding. Thank God you can't hear that
- 17:02because my God, that'd be crazy because I feel like I'm late.
- 17:09But then there are other times when you encounter situations,
- 17:13your initial response, emotional response is wholly inappropriate
- 17:21because you're it's not logical and the emotional response is
- 17:29actually triggering something that had nothing to do with the
- 17:33situation. Right.
- 17:36Let's just talk about those who have, I don't know, kids or
- 17:43anybody you have relationship, like a deep relationship with.
- 17:46And you, you care about this person.
- 17:48I'm sure you've gotten in fights.
- 17:51And because somehow here's a hypothetical scenario.
- 17:58You had a bad day, right? You got out to do your laundry,
- 18:03your washing machine was freaking out.
- 18:05You go out and mow the lawn and you had to do all this extra
- 18:08stuff because you didn't anticipate it in your computer
- 18:11and you had to do all this stuff for your computer before you can
- 18:14get anything that you really plan to do started.
- 18:18So and then right then you feel rushed.
- 18:22And then whoever this person might be that you have a close
- 18:25relationship with, you talk to them and you don't know what
- 18:31happened during their day. They might have gone through
- 18:34something not similar, but you know, that aggravated the same
- 18:37way. And both of you are sort of
- 18:39short, not because you're trying to be short with each other,
- 18:42because whatever you're feeling emotionally, you didn't let go.
- 18:48You didn't deal with it, and it's not appropriate.
- 18:51You didn't sit down and talk to yourself and like, hey, you know
- 18:54what? This is not helping.
- 18:56So you talk to each other and somebody says something that was
- 19:00misinterpreted or short or projected.
- 19:05Like, man, why are you giving me such a hard time?
- 19:11And you're just like, what? What are you talking about,
- 19:13right? Instead of asking, hey, what's
- 19:18going on? Instead of thinking, OK, today
- 19:23I've had a rough day. I know I'm a little emotionally
- 19:25raw. Let me not add fuel to the fire.
- 19:29I know we have to sometimes do these assessments really quick,
- 19:33but you know what? The only way to do it better is
- 19:37to practice, especially in the moment and and most of life
- 19:41happens in a rush right? Like when you don't expect it.
- 19:45Because if you can prepare, if you can pre think out scenarios
- 19:50and truthfully it really never happened the way we planned it,
- 19:54that would be great. Most people could handle that.
- 19:56But life comes at you and demands of you to be in control
- 20:01of yourself and assess our responses.
- 20:05Emotional responses, because that is that is a trigger that
- 20:08leads into so many other things like worsening behaviors, right
- 20:15back to the scenario. They say something and you say
- 20:21something back and this emotional rush of not having
- 20:27verbalized this frustration that you felt all day.
- 20:32Now it's projected onto the person because now you have in
- 20:36your mind without even thinking about it, a legit target.
- 20:40They were just being an A hole. Like, what do you mean?
- 20:44I'm not trying to be short. So now you have diverted your
- 20:50own responsibility, accountability to your own
- 20:54responses, emotional responses, right to this person.
- 21:00Sure it didn't. They were probably rude, but you
- 21:05didn't check the volume, the emotions attached to your
- 21:09response to them. Like what the hell?
- 21:11Why are you always trying to do this?
- 21:13You make every day so much worse, and this is within the
- 21:17first minute of you guys speaking.
- 21:21Really. Can the person?
- 21:23I mean, I'm sure some people can, but in that situation, had
- 21:27the person made it so much worse?
- 21:28Have they always made it so much worse?
- 21:30No, that's all this emotional frustration that's coming out
- 21:34pouring out to the other person like a fire hose is blowing it
- 21:39over emotionally. And guess what?
- 21:42Things escalate because you don't know that they they had,
- 21:45they haven't had a chance to share with you.
- 21:47Like maybe called you to tell you, hey, Oh my God, this is how
- 21:51my day went. They didn't even get that out.
- 21:53And now they feel unheard and attacked because they are also
- 21:58harboring their own emotional all this crap that they carry
- 22:03through their day, right? And now you have gasoline on
- 22:07fire from both of you. Emotionally inappropriate, not
- 22:13appropriate at all. But nobody's there checking on
- 22:16themselves. You can check the other person,
- 22:18but I can guarantee you that's not going to work.
- 22:20Well, we all know that. It's like telling somebody who's
- 22:22mad to calm down. Do they really calm down?
- 22:25Do they, do they ever calm down? It's like, what are you?
- 22:28You calm down, right? That's typically the response.
- 22:33So appropriate and not appropriate.
- 22:38So when we attach emotions, this is just normal stuff.
- 22:44This is like, I think most people, if not everybody has
- 22:48gone through something similar where your emotions, emotions
- 22:52get triggered and you, you add it on to a situation that's not,
- 23:01that doesn't require such the velocity in which you're
- 23:08throwing this emotional out, like emotions out in your
- 23:11language, in your body language, in your how you express
- 23:14yourself. And it makes things worse.
- 23:18I'm sure you've gotten those fights and you don't speak for
- 23:22months, over days, weeks, months or never.
- 23:26I'm sure people have lost relationships due to an
- 23:32inappropriate emotional response.
- 23:34Now, I'm not saying that every emotional response is
- 23:40inappropriate. For example, when when this
- 23:46unprecedented weather event went through my neighborhood, it
- 23:49literally went from sunny to complete chaos in less than two
- 23:53minutes. I was like Oh my God.
- 23:55Holy crap. Maybe that was a little too
- 24:00strong, but that was a shock because now they're reporting it
- 24:04was 90 to 95 mile hour winds. And I was in shock, sure, but
- 24:10that that is in some ways appropriate.
- 24:13I wasn't freaking out. I wasn't running around with my
- 24:15hair on fire or anything like that.
- 24:16Like Oh my God, somebody help me.
- 24:18I was just like, Oh my God, shocked that didn't.
- 24:20Sometimes it's how I express myself.
- 24:22So it is emotionally appropriate and post that storm when we
- 24:29didn't have power for, you know, a week, frustration start to
- 24:37build, right? Yeah.
- 24:41If you look at the situation, sure.
- 24:43I think that was that was somewhat normal, right?
- 24:47Only it frustration only becomes abnormal when you take it out on
- 24:52other people, right? For instance, if I was talking
- 24:55to somebody because I was frustrated because I didn't have
- 24:59power, I was eating can't greet means and the guy was in the
- 25:05military, it would have not survived.
- 25:07It was horrible. You know, if I started, if I
- 25:12hauled off and started yelling at people like you guys suck, I
- 25:15hate everybody in the world, and you know, because I didn't have
- 25:19power, that would have not have been emotionally appropriate,
- 25:24right? So the reason why I share is
- 25:30that every situation is different.
- 25:34We should when we can, when we catch ourselves, because we know
- 25:43we feel this rush is physiologically when you get all
- 25:47riled up, you feel this. Whatever building inside you
- 25:51pressure a rush. Let's take a second.
- 25:58Just take a take a deep breath. If all you you can do that
- 26:01right, Everybody has them breathe.
- 26:03So even if you take a deep breath and say, is this
- 26:08appropriate give you that self, that one second to calm down,
- 26:15not by somebody else telling you to calm down.
- 26:18Well, if they are, maybe take that advice, maybe you should
- 26:22calm down, right and think, hey, am I making things worse?
- 26:26My is this whatever emotion that I am feeling or projecting or
- 26:31letting loose on somebody else, on the situation or on myself
- 26:36appropriate to the situation, right?
- 26:39When something sad happens, like when I lost my fur babies, my
- 26:44older fur babies, it was emotionally appropriate when I
- 26:48started crying, that was normal, right?
- 26:51Not every emotion is inappropriate in response to a
- 26:54situation is that we need to learn to assess the
- 26:59appropriateness of it to whatever situation that we're
- 27:04encountering at the moment. Because if you, I don't know, if
- 27:09you guys listen to news, there's a lot of situations that's that
- 27:14that's happening currently, that's actually worsening
- 27:19because a lot of people are responding emotionally in that
- 27:24moment, in the heat of the moment, right?
- 27:28Which makes things worse. If we can just all step back,
- 27:34learn to step back, try to step back, especially in the
- 27:39situation to see where we stand, how we are using our emotions in
- 27:47this, in whatever situation that we're going through, if it's
- 27:52helping or hurting or if it's appropriate, right?
- 27:57I think we can at least lessen the heat that sets off these
- 28:09catastrophic fires like around the world, not just physically,
- 28:14but you know, from person to person, like you're just adding
- 28:17fuel to the fire, that sort of thing.
- 28:19Let's decrease the heat. Let's let the heat die down
- 28:24first in us because we cannot change anybody else but
- 28:28ourselves, right? Let us be the leaders who just
- 28:35for a second, hey, I can feel myself getting emotionally
- 28:39charged. I know what happens when
- 28:43emotional inappropriate behavior is applied to a situation.
- 28:49And I don't want to make this worse because it's not just
- 28:52going to make it worse for you, it's going to make it worse for
- 28:56everybody. The whole situation and the
- 28:59consequences probably will bring you even more frustration.
- 29:04And we don't want that. We're trying to make life
- 29:09easier, right? It's not going to be easy, so
- 29:12let's not add to the issue. So, you know, I try to use my
- 29:18own examples and today I like to sharing my experience just this
- 29:25morning. I know that in my attempt to
- 29:31assess my emotional state, if it's appropriate, my emotional
- 29:37response, if it's appropriate or not to this certain situation,
- 29:41sure, it helped a little, but I need so much practice because
- 29:46obviously I'm sitting here, I'm still feeling frazzled and I
- 29:52rushed myself in certain things. So I know I need practice and I
- 29:56know everybody. I, I don't like seeing that.
- 30:02Let me go back, rewind. I know that there are people out
- 30:08there who feel the way I feel and sort of get emotionally all
- 30:14tangled up in all sorts of situations like I do, right?
- 30:18Like in being frustrated, I add things on top.
- 30:23I add fuel to the fire to whatever situation I'm in,
- 30:27right? I've learned that I need to slow
- 30:29down. I need to slow down, slow myself
- 30:32down. Just mentally, physically,
- 30:34emotionally to assess what's happening because I don't want
- 30:41to be that idiot being controlled by something where I
- 30:46know I have full control. I can control myself.
- 30:53So that's why I share this. I know there's so many things
- 30:57going on right now, right? We all feel pressed, we feel
- 31:00pressured, we feel stressed out for whatever reason.
- 31:04And that emotion, whatever emotional response within you
- 31:07from everything builds up, right?
- 31:09There's pressure, there's stress.
- 31:13Let's reason it out within ourselves.
- 31:16Like let's talk it through logically, like an equation.
- 31:19Let's work it through. I could have just slowed down
- 31:21and said, hey, Reed, can you can what you're feeling right now
- 31:27help you go faster with your laundry?
- 31:30No, you still have to fix it or else it's not going to work.
- 31:34You still have to mow the lawn. Oh, yeah, You had extra work.
- 31:37What did you think They grow things grow outside.
- 31:41You're going to have to, you know, cut additional grass or
- 31:44whatever. It's just the way it is.
- 31:49Your task didn't change. It might have been a little bit
- 31:53longer, but it didn't change. So you got to do what you got to
- 31:57do. So stop feeling frustrated.
- 32:01This is just life coming in here, looking at your computer,
- 32:05you're like, oh, do I have to download this stuff?
- 32:07Yeah, you do. So why are you frustrating
- 32:11yourself with something that has to be done in order for you to
- 32:14achieve what you need to achieve?
- 32:18There's no, there's no perfection.
- 32:21There's no perfecting A timetable, right?
- 32:24That's why I have my PMP guys should have thought about that.
- 32:31You should always add a little bit extra time because sometimes
- 32:34I think, oh, I typically takes this long.
- 32:37I should always add a little bit longer time.
- 32:40So that way I have wiggle room. If I get things done ahead of
- 32:44time, great. If I get things done, you know,
- 32:48within the time frame, great. But now at least I know to add
- 32:53flexibility and which decreases my emotional response, right?
- 32:59So all this should be done beforehand in preparing
- 33:04ourselves to handle these urgent things and you know, the things
- 33:10that just pop up, right? Because life mostly consists of
- 33:15things that pops up, but when we think to ourselves, hey, I know
- 33:20this is kind of person I am. I'm not saying that's who you
- 33:22are. I'm saying this is who I am.
- 33:24I sort of get all riled up, you know, like, Oh my God, maybe I
- 33:29don't express it outside, but within my internal functioning,
- 33:33I get all riled up and emotionally, I burden each task
- 33:39with a growing emotional like this pain that's growing, right?
- 33:44And it doesn't help me at all. So now I'm starting to think,
- 33:49OK, maybe I should start checking in with myself instead
- 33:53of just blindly going around each day like a robot doing
- 33:57whatever we do, when we're doing whatever I do, check in with
- 34:01myself. Hey, did that situation go
- 34:03properly afterwards like an after actions review, you know,
- 34:08when proper wait, you don't have to check in with yourself If you
- 34:11drank a cup of water, like did that go well, I'm not saying do
- 34:15that, but when appropriate 1 is a task that could have brought
- 34:18some frustrations. Makes maybe take a minute.
- 34:22Sometimes it's less than a minute.
- 34:23Hey, OK, that made me a little frustrated.
- 34:26May mean let me take a minute to calm down so you don't carry
- 34:30this exponentially growing emotional burden into each task
- 34:35that you do right? Sometimes it's just a nice task.
- 34:38Sometimes it lasts for days and you're carrying this stuff that
- 34:40happened like a week ago the the power went out a week ago.
- 34:44Maybe I'm so frustrated, So let's try to, I don't know who
- 34:53else is feeling like I am. And if you are, I want to share
- 34:59this. So let's try to check in with
- 35:02ourselves and see where we are emotionally, right?
- 35:07And then take the time to practice this emotional
- 35:12intelligence and see is this appropriate for the situation?
- 35:17If you know your friends leaving for or moving and you cry,
- 35:22that's appropriate guys. So it's going to take practice.
- 35:26You're not going to have a perfect right I, I don't think
- 35:29there's such a thing as perfection.
- 35:31So each time when you catch yourself, hey, do it.
- 35:35And I guarantee you in time it will, you can recognize how it
- 35:43helped you eliminate a lot of the extra crap that came with
- 35:48having an inappropriate emotional response.
- 35:52So I am going a little bit longer than I usually do, but I
- 35:58have an hour so I appreciate you guys listening.
- 36:00I hope you guys are I hope you're doing well.
- 36:04I hope things continue to work out for you and there are people
- 36:13out here who care I pray for you guys.
- 36:16I think about you guys. So until next time, which is in
- 36:22two weeks. Oh, I also wanted to make this
- 36:24in case the power went out again.
- 36:26That's one of the reasons why I was also also in a hurry.
- 36:30Anyways, until next time, please be safe, be kind to yourself,
- 36:37right? Check in with yourself, right?
- 36:40And know that we're all we're all going through life and it's
- 36:48going to be OK. We're all going to be OK.
- 36:51OK. I'll talk to you guys next time.
