Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Times take stock. In the international break, we discussed our
- 0:04Speaker 1: key learnings from the season so far. We look head
- 0:06Speaker 1: to Afcon and the additional transfers we're going to get.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Plus we plan our chips as as always. I've got
- 0:11Speaker 1: a fair few left. It's an international break, but that
- 0:19Speaker 1: doesn't mean we get a holiday.
- 0:21Speaker 2: No.
- 0:21Speaker 1: The Premier League and FBL keep us working hard. Good morning, Joel's,
- 0:25Speaker 1: good morning, Sam, We're back. Joe's you ready to think about?
- 0:29Speaker 1: FPR is your head and every.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Other every Yeah, playoffs and everything. But I prepared for
- 0:35Speaker 3: the show nicely and.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Gamewik eleven Sorry, thirty two points was able to be
- 0:42Speaker 2: painful because again I left a love point on my
- 0:44Speaker 2: bench with Voaltimado and O'Riley get He not playing a
- 0:48Speaker 2: tour for Crystal Palace really won me up on at
- 0:51Speaker 2: the weekend and it was a tough game for everyone.
- 0:54Speaker 2: But at least I said that Netal was my differential.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I brought him in my team and he returned, so
- 0:59Speaker 2: I was alice happy with that.
- 1:00Speaker 1: But it was not a good week, Sam, I guess
- 1:03Speaker 1: for you good week. It was a good week, wasn't it.
- 1:06Speaker 3: No.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I brought in Gayhee this week and I was using
- 1:10Speaker 1: I was also using scores now, I was using you
- 1:14Speaker 1: as a benchmark Jewels, and Sam finished above you. So
- 1:17Speaker 1: in that way, Sam is good week. You can take
- 1:19Speaker 1: a small.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Little oh, okay, I'll take some I'll take some heart
- 1:23Speaker 4: from the fact I beat Jewels this week.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That made me feel bad me. Neither of us have
- 1:26Speaker 1: done that much this season. Let's be honest. I know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: do you know what I was so frustrated this week
- 1:31Speaker 1: because I think I was saying to you.
- 1:32Speaker 4: I mean, I pretty much said everywhere I went last
- 1:35Speaker 4: week heading into the game week that one of my
- 1:37Speaker 4: big issues was that I didn't have a Crystal Palace
- 1:38Speaker 4: defender and it was really hurting me every single week.
- 1:41Speaker 4: And so on Friday evening, I was like, right, I've
- 1:44Speaker 4: had enough, even though I didn't actually think that. I mean,
- 1:47Speaker 4: that derby game between Palace and Brighton is always a
- 1:49Speaker 4: bit difficult to call. So I was a bit like,
- 1:51Speaker 4: I don't even know if there's going to be a
- 1:52Speaker 4: clean sheet, but I've.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Just had enough.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I've had enough of the pain of everyone else picking
- 1:56Speaker 4: up defensive points from Crystal Palace, so I'll just get one.
- 2:00Speaker 4: And I still hadn't really decided who I wanted, and
- 2:02Speaker 4: in the end Gay he was going to price rise
- 2:04Speaker 4: on Friday, and I thought, right, I'll just get him
- 2:06Speaker 4: and then I've done it, and yes, I've got to
- 2:08Speaker 4: spend a bit more money, but fine, I'll be happier
- 2:11Speaker 4: and that'll be fine. So I felt really pleased. So
- 2:14Speaker 4: going into this game Beek, I was like, right, I'm
- 2:16Speaker 4: really happy. And then I'm standing on the touchline of
- 2:19Speaker 4: my son's grassroots game on Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon
- 2:22Speaker 4: and the team sheet came out and I was.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Like, where is Mark Gay? He?
- 2:27Speaker 4: And so the pain of not having a Crystal Palace
- 2:30Speaker 4: rom but on because actually the reason that my arrow
- 2:32Speaker 4: is red and not green this week is because I
- 2:35Speaker 4: didn't have a palace defender because it was green all
- 2:37Speaker 4: the way up until the point when Crystal Palace registered
- 2:40Speaker 4: that clean sheet and I didn't have him in there.
- 2:41Speaker 4: So it was a really frustrating one. But there alas
- 2:46Speaker 4: we are where we are, we just have to wait
- 2:47Speaker 4: for news on him.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Now.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, for once I was I wanted Gay, but I
- 2:51Speaker 1: couldn't fit him in in my wild card, and obviously
- 2:53Speaker 1: I had all the pain of is Richard's going to
- 2:55Speaker 1: be fit when I did kind of initially bring him
- 2:57Speaker 1: in for once actually having gay having Richard's over, it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: a really nice move. I am actually the only person
- 3:04Speaker 1: that finished above average on this pod, but it was
- 3:05Speaker 1: such a low average. If you're listening to this and
- 3:08Speaker 1: didn't get above what was the average of thirty eight, Like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's quite rare really that the average isn't above forty.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So two of the three of us didn't get above forty,
- 3:17Speaker 1: So don't feel bad if you did. I mean I
- 3:19Speaker 1: got forty nine, and probably the advantage was having richard'st
- 3:23Speaker 1: right and yeah, and actually also keeping Sanchez in the
- 3:26Speaker 1: end has proven to be okay in the last few weeks,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and being honest, I did that because budget was again
- 3:32Speaker 1: a kind of a limitation. But I've still not made
- 3:34Speaker 1: a transfer since my World carde actually, which has been
- 3:36Speaker 1: quite nice. I mean, I'm not very good at saving transfers,
- 3:39Speaker 1: as you know, I do like a minus. So I've
- 3:41Speaker 1: got three transfers, I'm like itching to use them. I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: going to try and see I can get to four.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Let's what happens after the interpetional break. It was just
- 3:48Speaker 1: a quick word. Your bench is becoming a problem, isn't it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah, do you know what I list shows that the
- 3:53Speaker 3: squad is good to be fair, but.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You know the worst I was at the city before
- 4:00Speaker 2: we get on Sunday for five lives, and it's even worse.
- 4:04Speaker 3: When you watch on television.
- 4:05Speaker 2: If you get really cross, you can turn the TV
- 4:07Speaker 2: off or the radio off and then you forget about
- 4:10Speaker 2: the Premier League FPL, et cetera. When you're working in
- 4:12Speaker 2: the stadium and see Nicole Riley having the game that
- 4:15Speaker 2: you had on the eleven points. When you see Earl
- 4:17Speaker 2: Hallan missing a penalty, okay, yeah it's called, but he's
- 4:20Speaker 2: still missed the penalty, which was painful and you could
- 4:22Speaker 2: fill almost with the whole stagium. City fans were not
- 4:25Speaker 2: happy because you missed the penalty, but also all the
- 4:27Speaker 2: FPL owners with Captain him in that eighty hads were
- 4:30Speaker 2: like me, it was like come on please, so man,
- 4:33Speaker 2: you and miss the penalty too, So yeah, what's the
- 4:35Speaker 2: matter with five on the bench or Riley with eleven?
- 4:37Speaker 2: So that's sixteen between them. The week before was eighteen,
- 4:41Speaker 2: the week before was twenty.
- 4:42Speaker 1: So half the points of your actual eleven. Joels, Yeah,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it's crazy.
- 4:46Speaker 3: But to be fair.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I didn't think it's the same. I didn't really have
- 4:50Speaker 2: any regrets. I didn't fancy ultimatter for this. Okay, he
- 4:53Speaker 2: got five points, but already didn't.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Think he would do that.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Well, I didn't think that Liverpool would be so poor.
- 4:58Speaker 2: So it's not like if I even hesitated on starting
- 5:01Speaker 2: o'reiley at the weekend. So I've got less of regrets.
- 5:03Speaker 3: But he's still gutting to see the point on your bench.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, always was a little bit better, doesn't it if
- 5:07Speaker 1: you haven't had that quandary, if you know, look, in
- 5:10Speaker 1: no circumstances, I'm going to start in Nick o'reiley. You
- 5:13Speaker 1: kind of make it a little bit more's.
- 5:15Speaker 3: With it, you know, Yeah exactly, But I was still
- 5:16Speaker 3: a bit gutted.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Okay, then so it finished with Jews is still top
- 5:20Speaker 1: of hour mini league by quite some distance. I often
- 5:22Speaker 1: say our scores, but I don't say the difference in
- 5:24Speaker 1: points in mini leagues. So let's just take stock a
- 5:26Speaker 1: little bit. Jewels is on six hundred and sixty six
- 5:28Speaker 1: points thirty two points for the game week I'm on
- 5:30Speaker 1: six hundred and eight points. I mean I clawed back
- 5:32Speaker 1: seventeen points, but I'm still what fifty eight points behind
- 5:36Speaker 1: you eight Jews. It has been bigger than that points
- 5:38Speaker 1: this season, so I'm going to take that. I got
- 5:41Speaker 1: forty nine points Ian still in a mini league. He
- 5:43Speaker 1: got five hundred and ninety two, so he's fourteen points
- 5:47Speaker 1: by me. He got forty five points this week. Sam's
- 5:49Speaker 1: on five eight four. She got thirty seven points this week.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So I'm doing this live matter again. You're twenty two
- 5:55Speaker 1: points by me, Sam, and you are sixty six plus
- 5:58Speaker 1: sixteen eighty two eighty two points behind Jules, So I mean,
- 6:02Speaker 1: it's not going to finish that way, so I'm not
- 6:04Speaker 1: going to get too excited, but yeah, I think it's
- 6:07Speaker 1: also a good point low, isn't it, Sam, Like a
- 6:09Speaker 1: lot of people having difficult starts to this season, Like, Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you are not the only person I mentioned. I'm not
- 6:15Speaker 1: mean you. I meaning you if you're listening to this,
- 6:17Speaker 1: like a lot of people are. The fact that it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: such a low Gameik, it's just been quite an unpredictable
- 6:23Speaker 1: bit of a slog, hasn't it at times?
- 6:25Speaker 4: Yeah, because the players haven't necessarily had consistency, anybody has
- 6:29Speaker 4: been able to be anybody in the league. We've seen
- 6:32Speaker 4: you know, even when we look at the weekend, like
- 6:34Speaker 4: I think we were all thinking, oh, guaranteed Arsenal clean sheets,
- 6:37Speaker 4: we've all doubled up there. When that doesn't happen, then
- 6:39Speaker 4: you know that the game we coverage is going to
- 6:41Speaker 4: be lower because everybody's so heavily invested. We've seen teams
- 6:45Speaker 4: losing to other teams that on paper you wouldn't expect
- 6:49Speaker 4: them to. We've seen shock shock results across the board,
- 6:52Speaker 4: and so that inconsistency and what's making the Premier League
- 6:55Speaker 4: so fun this year has made FPL really hard because
- 6:58Speaker 4: it's so difficult to predict what's going to happen in
- 7:01Speaker 4: these fixtures. Plus, I think you know, the changes in
- 7:05Speaker 4: the chips and the addition of death con has fundamentally
- 7:09Speaker 4: changed the game because at this point in the season,
- 7:13Speaker 4: most managers wouldn't have used They might have used the wildcard,
- 7:16Speaker 4: but they wouldn't have used any of their other chips.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Is the reality. So when you're looking across the leagues,
- 7:21Speaker 4: and I spend a lot of time looking at what
- 7:23Speaker 4: the people ahead of me have done in terms of chips,
- 7:25Speaker 4: and most of with the exception of you two, because
- 7:28Speaker 4: you're roughly doing what I'm doing. In most of my
- 7:30Speaker 4: other mini leagues, the people there ahead of me have
- 7:33Speaker 4: used all of their chips and that obviously has an
- 7:36Speaker 4: impact if you play them correctly. So it's been a
- 7:39Speaker 4: really interesting season learning about the new players that you
- 7:44Speaker 4: want to target because of death con because of the
- 7:47Speaker 4: sudden decline of the premium assets, with the exception of
- 7:51Speaker 4: Erlin Harlan. It's made for a really fascinating season so far,
- 7:55Speaker 4: and therefore a difficult one. That's what we needed if
- 7:58Speaker 4: we needed a positive spin snating season. Whereas I described
- 8:01Speaker 4: it as a slog, I don't mean it's a stog.
- 8:02Speaker 4: I do still enjoy it.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's just and actually I've enjoyed the last few weeks
- 8:06Speaker 1: because I feel like my wild card is kind of
- 8:08Speaker 1: paying off, even though I had so many doubts and
- 8:11Speaker 1: question marks over it was just quickly, what's your rank
- 8:14Speaker 1: at a minute?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Come on? Do you not know? Five? And I was
- 8:19Speaker 3: going to say top six hundred.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're maybe I'm going to have to start
- 8:23Speaker 1: coming away from one of my insticks and start kind
- 8:25Speaker 1: of cheering you on a bit because it's good for
- 8:26Speaker 1: the podcast, isn't it If one of us well no,
- 8:29Speaker 1: I haven't decided on that. I'm just I'm thinking about
- 8:33Speaker 1: let's check in on the Food Mini League caause loads
- 8:35Speaker 1: of you guys are doing better than us. Congratulations to
- 8:37Speaker 1: Barry Roberts because he's remained at the top of the
- 8:40Speaker 1: FPL POD Mini League. He only got thirty seven points,
- 8:43Speaker 1: proof again that everyone's having a tough year. Ali Gulami
- 8:46Speaker 1: went from six to second, just three points behind Barry.
- 8:49Speaker 1: A nice little title race at the top. He actually
- 8:51Speaker 1: sold Yokras this week and brought back schul Pedro that
- 8:55Speaker 1: obviously paid off. Gary huen Is in third copytry you've
- 8:58Speaker 1: seen is five points. I'm Barry as well in first
- 9:01Speaker 1: and two behind Ali in second. Now nine of the
- 9:04Speaker 1: top ten managers, Captain Harland the only exception as a
- 9:06Speaker 1: manager going by the name the greatest of all time
- 9:10Speaker 1: with Captain Saker, that means he went from thirty seventh
- 9:12Speaker 1: to tenth. To remind, the FPL POB Mini League code
- 9:14Speaker 1: is x y six XPL, So if you're not in
- 9:16Speaker 1: there and then already do join us, okay, then somehow
- 9:19Speaker 1: we're only eleven game weeks into the season. For me,
- 9:22Speaker 1: it feels a lot longer because the first few of
- 9:24Speaker 1: those were particularly tough, but I think it's always good
- 9:27Speaker 1: in an international break to take stock, have a little look,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and this period of games Jules feels important because of
- 9:35Speaker 1: course when it comes to December, we're going to have
- 9:37Speaker 1: a f con thrown into the mix as well.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Yeah, and we need to get ready for that.
- 9:41Speaker 2: For Afgan obviously, the players that you might lose, the
- 9:43Speaker 2: likes of I don't know, Mbomo and Ismae Lasa and
- 9:46Speaker 2: Iliman and Diai and those kind of guys.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Who could live quite early.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But for now, it's true that we already have a
- 9:53Speaker 2: good idea of what DECI has been, what's been happening,
- 9:57Speaker 2: the trends in this season, the deaf cons that's not
- 9:59Speaker 2: mentioned earlier, the players returning in midfield, not maybe having
- 10:03Speaker 2: to spend too much money on superstars because they're not
- 10:05Speaker 2: really returning. For you, Arling Hayland at the top of
- 10:09Speaker 2: the game and at the top of his game too
- 10:12Speaker 2: this season so far. So all of that we've had
- 10:14Speaker 2: to manage, and like some said, it's been really fascinating,
- 10:16Speaker 2: but we've learned the loss. So I think it feels
- 10:19Speaker 2: like this is the last international break of the year.
- 10:21Speaker 2: There's Obviously one more in the season comes March, so
- 10:23Speaker 2: we've got plenty of time for that, But of twenty
- 10:25Speaker 2: twenty five, this is the last one, and I think
- 10:27Speaker 2: we should be ready to crack on after this international break,
- 10:31Speaker 2: because now you know what's good, you know what's not
- 10:33Speaker 2: so good, you know what works and what doesn't really
- 10:35Speaker 2: work in FBL so far.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Okay, Sam, what are your main takeaway points, because I
- 10:39Speaker 1: know you like to really take stock in the international break.
- 10:41Speaker 1: What are the big things that you're kind of you've learned,
- 10:46Speaker 1: so to speak.
- 10:48Speaker 4: I think actually, for me, normally, the fixtures are a
- 10:51Speaker 4: key thing, and I spent a lot of time looking
- 10:53Speaker 4: at the fixture tickers and thinking about the blocks of
- 10:56Speaker 4: fixtures where players look like they're going to go on
- 11:00Speaker 4: a a bit of a run and do well. But
- 11:02Speaker 4: actually this season hasn't. That hasn't really been the thing.
- 11:06Speaker 4: It's been more about the form of the players and
- 11:08Speaker 4: the form of the teams, because the teams that have
- 11:10Speaker 4: been in good form have been the ones to invest in.
- 11:12Speaker 4: And you know, if you think back to the early
- 11:13Speaker 4: part of the season, a lot of the reason why
- 11:16Speaker 4: we didn't invest in Arsenal is because they had a
- 11:17Speaker 4: really horrible start. The games weren't very nice and we
- 11:20Speaker 4: were all like, oh, maybe there's not so many king sheets.
- 11:23Speaker 4: But actually what we saw is a continuation of Arsenal's
- 11:26Speaker 4: defensive solidity and playing really, really well. So a lot
- 11:30Speaker 4: of us missed out on a lot of points early
- 11:32Speaker 4: on because we had this plan for Arsenal a bit
- 11:35Speaker 4: later and we didn't do it because of the fixtures.
- 11:37Speaker 4: And so for me that's been a relatively big learning
- 11:39Speaker 4: point and I think it might work the other way
- 11:42Speaker 4: around as we head into the next few weeks, because
- 11:43Speaker 4: obviously the Liverpool fixtures are absolutely delightful over the coming weeks,
- 11:47Speaker 4: but the former and both Liverpool themselves as well as
- 11:52Speaker 4: their key players, has been difficult. It's been hard to read.
- 11:55Speaker 4: There's been a lack of consistency there from each of
- 11:57Speaker 4: them individually. Maybe it's about looking at the fixtures and
- 12:02Speaker 4: having them in the back of your mind, but also
- 12:05Speaker 4: just the eye test I think has been so important
- 12:07Speaker 4: this year. What you're seeing on the pitch, the players,
- 12:09Speaker 4: the feeling around each of the clubs and investing from
- 12:12Speaker 4: that perspective. And I think for me, normally this international
- 12:16Speaker 4: break i'd be going right Liverpool's fixtures this thing, and
- 12:18Speaker 4: I'm going there, but I don't think I'm going to
- 12:20Speaker 4: in the end.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I think maybe that's why Jews has done well this season,
- 12:24Speaker 1: because you are more of an itest manager than a
- 12:26Speaker 1: status manager in a way. You watch a lot of
- 12:28Speaker 1: football and you kind of see and you use the
- 12:32Speaker 1: information that I mean, sometimes it fails spectacularly, but it
- 12:34Speaker 1: does mean that sometimes you get on players before we should.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I also think is important that the teams there's not
- 12:40Speaker 1: been the consistency and I wonder if this season Jews
- 12:42Speaker 1: we've also gone In the past, we would have always
- 12:45Speaker 1: targeted teams that were newly promoted. But it's a different
- 12:47Speaker 1: Premier League, isn't it. In terms of particularly Sunderland, the
- 12:51Speaker 1: way they're performing, they're outperforming the regular Premier League teams,
- 12:54Speaker 1: So we're not just targeting players and teams that are
- 12:57Speaker 1: playing the newly promoted sides.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Worst teams and the league have been Wolves and west
- 13:02Speaker 2: Ham and Forest to change managers already three twice, three
- 13:07Speaker 2: times now the third manager in with Sean Diage, So
- 13:10Speaker 2: you're right. Before we might have tend to look at
- 13:13Speaker 2: who was facing those promoted sides and think, okay, there's
- 13:16Speaker 2: there's there's a win there, or there's a clean sheet there,
- 13:18Speaker 2: or there's this.
- 13:19Speaker 3: There's that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Now it's very different. It's but we said earlier, it's
- 13:22Speaker 2: a more competitive season so far. Whether you think the
- 13:25Speaker 2: level is great and you think the football is fantastic, okay,
- 13:28Speaker 2: maybe not so much, but certainly in terms of competitiveness
- 13:31Speaker 2: of who can be who any time any game, I
- 13:34Speaker 2: think it's it's pretty much there. Whether they're you know,
- 13:37Speaker 2: top teams or wicked weak asides, it doesn't matter so much,
- 13:40Speaker 2: which makes our life a bit more difficult completely to
- 13:43Speaker 2: pick the right team, to pick the right players, as
- 13:45Speaker 2: as I said earlier, to pick the right bench too.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I find it. I find it quite quite difficult.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And same when you use your free transfers, your wild cards,
- 13:53Speaker 2: a bit of money that you've left in the bank,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I find it sometimes quite difficult to go to the
- 13:58Speaker 2: right direction.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, Sam, defcon, I don't want to talk
- 14:01Speaker 1: about it too much. So I feel like, if, like
- 14:04Speaker 1: right now, someone wrote down the words that I say
- 14:07Speaker 1: the most in my days and in life, death coon
- 14:10Speaker 1: feels like it's like on the way up. It feels
- 14:11Speaker 1: like I talk about death con so often, and particularly
- 14:14Speaker 1: for you as a fantasy content creator.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Is topical, isn't it? But are we going over the
- 14:18Speaker 4: top or is it still really important? I think actually
- 14:22Speaker 4: the answer is yes to both of those two things.
- 14:23Speaker 4: So when you look at the top scoring players, they
- 14:25Speaker 4: often haven't actually got a lot of deafth con points. Obviously,
- 14:28Speaker 4: Harlan hasn't got any, Gabrielle has a, but then Semnia's
- 14:31Speaker 4: got two, Timber's not got any, rice Ha's got six,
- 14:33Speaker 4: so they're not like huge numbers.
- 14:35Speaker 1: They're not having a.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Massive impact on where they're sitting in the overall rankings.
- 14:39Speaker 4: When you look at the top scoring defenders, though, despite
- 14:42Speaker 4: Timber and Califury not having any in second and fourth,
- 14:45Speaker 4: Gay he's third as the top scoring defender, he's got ten.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Who knows it's got six unless he's got eighteen, Random
- 14:50Speaker 4: End's got two, Keen has ten, and Lacoix has twelve.
- 14:54Speaker 4: So most of the top scoring defenders have returned deaf con,
- 14:57Speaker 4: and most of them have got a good number of them.
- 15:00Speaker 4: But in order to be in that list of the
- 15:02Speaker 4: top scoring defenders, they also have to be doing something else.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Def Con isn't enough on its own to give them
- 15:07Speaker 4: the top scoring ranking. So for example, Van der Ven,
- 15:09Speaker 4: he's got three goals and four clean sheets this season,
- 15:12Speaker 4: Timber's got two goals to assist in six clean sheets
- 15:14Speaker 4: this season, Califuri's got a goal and assist in seven
- 15:16Speaker 4: clean sheets. So death con is important, and it's particularly
- 15:21Speaker 4: important when you're picking your cheaper defenders. But I think
- 15:23Speaker 4: what we're seeing is we also have to look at
- 15:26Speaker 4: what else are they doing. Are they still getting the
- 15:28Speaker 4: clean sheets? It doesn't replace them because it's limited to two.
- 15:32Speaker 4: So because they can only get those additional two points,
- 15:34Speaker 4: it's basically meant that we've seen a change in the
- 15:37Speaker 4: floor for some managers. So for example, SINNESSI always feels
- 15:40Speaker 4: like rather than starting on two, he's starting on four,
- 15:43Speaker 4: and then it's just how high does the ceiling go
- 15:45Speaker 4: after that? Can he get a clean sheet? Can I
- 15:47Speaker 4: get an assist? Can you get something else that goes
- 15:48Speaker 4: on top? So I think it's worth looking at. But
- 15:52Speaker 4: it's also important to note that def con. When you
- 15:55Speaker 4: look at the top scoring defenders in the game right now,
- 15:58Speaker 4: they're getting some deaf con points, yeah, but the important
- 16:01Speaker 4: thing is they're getting the additional stuff. The more important
- 16:03Speaker 4: stuff that's worth more points to us as the f
- 16:05Speaker 4: PAWL managers.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Are we all in agreement that our formation thoughts as
- 16:10Speaker 1: a result, have completely gone out the window. Jewels, I
- 16:12Speaker 1: feel weird now if I don't start for the back Yeah, I.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Think so too.
- 16:16Speaker 2: We set up in previous shows as well. It's like
- 16:18Speaker 2: the back four seems the most obvious system.
- 16:21Speaker 3: That you should use. Whether it's a four four to two,
- 16:23Speaker 3: if you feels that you've.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Got four strong midfielders four through three, if you want
- 16:27Speaker 2: to play you all three forwards, it doesn't matter so much.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But there's so many points to get from your defensive players,
- 16:34Speaker 2: and even on the on top of your back four,
- 16:36Speaker 2: a lot of us have at least one or even
- 16:38Speaker 2: two defensive midfielders Casido, Rice Gravenberge, Ellie Anderson, whoever you
- 16:43Speaker 2: want in the mix.
- 16:44Speaker 3: They're also there because they're.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Just racking up points with de f cons, which has
- 16:48Speaker 2: been massive for them, but also because those players have
- 16:51Speaker 2: been very good in the attacking half of the page
- 16:55Speaker 2: really for their teams, and because the superstar mid fielders
- 16:58Speaker 2: are not really returning like they either usually do or
- 17:02Speaker 2: like we hoping them to do, or wish them to do.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, any other learning Sam, I kind of
- 17:07Speaker 1: was just trying to do a tick off of this
- 17:08Speaker 1: is what we know, this is what we know, this
- 17:10Speaker 1: is what we know checkpoints before we move on to
- 17:12Speaker 1: chat in depth.
- 17:14Speaker 4: I think, leading on from what George just said, I
- 17:18Speaker 4: think this season, expensive doesn't necessarily mean worth it. So
- 17:23Speaker 4: when you look at again, we'll go back to the
- 17:24Speaker 4: top twenty high scoring players in the game. Of those
- 17:27Speaker 4: who started the season at ten million plus, Harlan's obviously first,
- 17:31Speaker 4: Sala's twentieth, and none of the others make it in then,
- 17:33Speaker 4: and obviously that's partly due to injury with the likes
- 17:35Speaker 4: of Easac and Saka and Palmer. But when you look
- 17:38Speaker 4: at the rest of the top twenty, they're current pricing.
- 17:41Speaker 4: It's six point six, eight point one, six point one,
- 17:44Speaker 4: six point nine, five point one, five point eight, six
- 17:46Speaker 4: point one, then eight point five, seven point five, six
- 17:49Speaker 4: point three, it goes on and on and on, like
- 17:52Speaker 4: there's a four point eight in there. There's another couple
- 17:54Speaker 4: of five point zeros. So these are not expensive players.
- 17:57Speaker 4: So when we started the season, I sat down last
- 18:00Speaker 4: night with this list of twenty and was I could
- 18:02Speaker 4: easily make a squad of fifteen with all of these
- 18:05Speaker 4: players in it, and it wouldn't be an issue in
- 18:07Speaker 4: terms of the budget.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Like it's easy to do.
- 18:09Speaker 4: And that's what's really fascinating to me, because normally we
- 18:12Speaker 4: sit here and we're scraping around trying to find money,
- 18:15Speaker 4: and we're kind of going, oh, I need to I
- 18:16Speaker 4: need to afford Salar and I want to also ford Harlan,
- 18:18Speaker 4: and maybe I need to squeeze a sacker in there,
- 18:20Speaker 4: and of course I need a double arsenal defense.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So how am I going to do that? What's the
- 18:23Speaker 1: cheapest route?
- 18:24Speaker 4: But this season, because we have players like Michael Kean
- 18:29Speaker 4: who are appearing in the top twenty at four point five,
- 18:31Speaker 4: because there are the graven Birches and the declan Rices
- 18:36Speaker 4: and the Kados that Jews was just talking about, we're
- 18:39Speaker 4: not having to fight the budget.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Quite as much as we normally are.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And I think that's a really important thing because sometimes
- 18:46Speaker 4: and even this week I was right it is a
- 18:47Speaker 4: bit of an example of that with my Crystal Palace investment,
- 18:50Speaker 4: Like I was sat there for ages, going or do
- 18:52Speaker 4: I just get riches and save the money, And actually,
- 18:55Speaker 4: over the course of the season. Maybe having Gay he's
- 18:57Speaker 4: the right thing, but in that moment last week, for
- 19:00Speaker 4: the cheaper one would have been the better option. So
- 19:02Speaker 4: I think it's just a bit of a different learning
- 19:04Speaker 4: experience for this year.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Okay, So key takeaway points deficon is as important as
- 19:09Speaker 1: our brains keep telling us it is. Don't necessarily target
- 19:11Speaker 1: the newly promoted teams. Not always best to go over
- 19:14Speaker 1: for the most expensive players. Just have a back for
- 19:17Speaker 1: most weeks and that's about it. Maybe also, midfielders have
- 19:20Speaker 1: been a bit underwhelming to key takeaway points up until
- 19:23Speaker 1: this point, and Sam just quickly a lot of people
- 19:25Speaker 1: will potentially be looking at this international break for wild
- 19:29Speaker 1: card if they people have still got it, would you
- 19:31Speaker 1: recommend now?
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 19:33Speaker 4: Absolutely, because is a really good time because we've I
- 19:37Speaker 4: do think that this international break, if you've been able
- 19:40Speaker 4: to hold it this long, it feels like the one
- 19:41Speaker 4: where we have the most information and the most knowledge.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Like when people were playing him in the first international break,
- 19:46Speaker 4: you kind of, what, three or four weeks into the season,
- 19:49Speaker 4: you've got some information, But as we've been saying during
- 19:51Speaker 4: this podcast, they're not. We haven't had consistency, especially by
- 19:55Speaker 4: that point. The second international break, we had a bit
- 19:57Speaker 4: more information. This one eleven game week's worth of it
- 20:00Speaker 4: feels like quite a lot when you're trying to invest
- 20:03Speaker 4: in a in a wild card team. And I think
- 20:05Speaker 4: importantly it's far enough away from AFCORN that you can
- 20:09Speaker 4: still make advantage or take advantage rather of the transfers
- 20:13Speaker 4: that they're going to be given around AFCORN and that
- 20:15Speaker 4: not have an impact because if you use the worldcard
- 20:17Speaker 4: too late and too close to that, it will impact
- 20:19Speaker 4: the strategy that you're using in terms of your free transfers.
- 20:22Speaker 4: So it's just it's something to kind of consider. I
- 20:24Speaker 4: think probably now is the moment if you haven't hit
- 20:26Speaker 4: it already.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Be honest, she's AFCN gets underwhel in the twenty first
- 20:29Speaker 1: of December, which just mark you diaries early. That's my birthday.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Have you even thought have you even thought about it
- 20:36Speaker 1: at this point?
- 20:37Speaker 2: For FBL or for real life, well, either a real
- 20:40Speaker 2: health Yeah, I'm in. I'm absolutely in. There's games on
- 20:42Speaker 2: Christmas Eve, there's a game on New Year's Eve. It's
- 20:44Speaker 2: going to be amazing for fb LA.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Family is getting Christmas.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You can't wait. In terms of FBL, not so much.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I won't lie, but I think it's important we talk
- 20:57Speaker 2: about it because there's there's a lot of things that
- 20:59Speaker 2: can happen, again, depending on how many African players you own,
- 21:02Speaker 2: that will leave your squads at some point and you
- 21:04Speaker 2: have to replace them. But it's quite interesting to see,
- 21:08Speaker 2: for example, because we don't know yet who's going to
- 21:11Speaker 2: join their national team and when and exactly when, what
- 21:15Speaker 2: kind of game week they.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Can still play in sixteen seventeen, all of that.
- 21:19Speaker 2: So I think it's we're a month away and pretty much,
- 21:23Speaker 2: let's say, and I think it's time to think about
- 21:25Speaker 2: it now, especially if you've got a few of those
- 21:28Speaker 2: players who you know will go to Afcon.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Yeah, there's forty five Premier League players who play for
- 21:32Speaker 1: teams who are at Afcon. SAM probably only fifteen key
- 21:36Speaker 1: players in terms of FPL, though, aren't they. So who
- 21:39Speaker 1: are the headlines do you think that we need to
- 21:41Speaker 1: be aware of.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I mean, obviously Sala's going and for most people that
- 21:44Speaker 4: will be a key I mean we'd expect them to
- 21:47Speaker 4: go with Egypt anyway, and in most seasons you'd be going, right,
- 21:51Speaker 4: that's the big talking point. But actually it feels like
- 21:53Speaker 4: it's not really so much now because we've all the invested,
- 21:55Speaker 4: or a lot of us have be invested in Sala anyway,
- 21:58Speaker 4: but when you look across the rest of them, there's
- 21:59Speaker 4: quite a few. Illmann Die has been really popular with
- 22:02Speaker 4: FPL managers. You might have to deal with him. I
- 22:04Speaker 4: think the Brentford bandwagon is starting to climb in terms
- 22:07Speaker 4: of people's investment there. So you've got Dango Altara who's
- 22:11Speaker 4: gonna probably be off as well, Brian and Bomo. He's
- 22:14Speaker 4: looking so important in FPL right now and a lot
- 22:16Speaker 4: of managers. I think he's going to be the biggest
- 22:18Speaker 4: talking point right now because heading into game week twelve,
- 22:22Speaker 4: managers will be looking at investing in managester United because
- 22:25Speaker 4: the former is picking up, the fixtures are picking up.
- 22:27Speaker 4: It looks like it's kind of all coming together a
- 22:30Speaker 4: little bit for them right now. But do you go
- 22:32Speaker 4: there because in you know, ahead of game week sixteen
- 22:36Speaker 4: you're gonna potentially have issues to deal with. Is it
- 22:38Speaker 4: easier just to go for Bruno Fernandez and pay that
- 22:41Speaker 4: what point five extra? But you know you're not going
- 22:44Speaker 4: to lose him in a few weeks time. So I
- 22:46Speaker 4: think it's those conversations that make these interesting. It's not
- 22:49Speaker 4: just about the player itself that you're going to lose,
- 22:51Speaker 4: but also the impact.
- 22:53Speaker 1: On their team. Yeah, unfortunately Brian and Bermot coming into
- 22:57Speaker 1: form is is a bit of a tricky one, isn't
- 22:58Speaker 1: he because he's popular with FO managers Jowles, But would
- 23:02Speaker 1: you avoid knowing that?
- 23:03Speaker 2: So Gamewick seventeen is played on the twentieth of December,
- 23:07Speaker 2: satur of the twentieth and Sunday twenty first of December
- 23:12Speaker 2: and Monday twenty second, by the way, and this is
- 23:14Speaker 2: the key one here because depending on when your country
- 23:18Speaker 2: starts in Afghan from the twenty first onwards, as we've
- 23:22Speaker 2: been saying, some players might be allowed and able to
- 23:25Speaker 2: play in Game Weick seventeen and then join up with
- 23:28Speaker 2: the national team straight after.
- 23:29Speaker 3: We've seen many in the past.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I remember even Edward Mendy and sad your money after
- 23:34Speaker 2: Chelsea Liverpool asked them for British taking the same private
- 23:37Speaker 2: jay to join up with Senegal for Afghan straight after.
- 23:40Speaker 3: But we're allowed to play that the last game.
- 23:43Speaker 2: If you think about Cameron, the first game is on
- 23:46Speaker 2: Christmas Eve on the twenty fourth against Gabon. So you
- 23:50Speaker 2: think that United playing the twenty first of December and
- 23:53Speaker 2: Bomba might be allowed to play that game away Aston
- 23:56Speaker 2: Villa and then fly directly from Birmingham to Morocco, where
- 24:00Speaker 2: will be hosted this season twenty first to twenty four.
- 24:04Speaker 2: That should be okay if you have it will be
- 24:07Speaker 2: or you know. For example, just to talk about Nigeria,
- 24:10Speaker 2: their first game is on the twenty third of December.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Fulham play Forest on the twenty second of December in
- 24:15Speaker 2: that game week seventeen.
- 24:16Speaker 3: I can guarantee you that Alexi will be.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Unfortunately for him for Fulham and for any FPA manager
- 24:22Speaker 2: who own him at that time, he won't be able
- 24:24Speaker 2: to play that game week seventeen.
- 24:25Speaker 3: He will have to leave before that to join up
- 24:27Speaker 3: with Nigeria. So it depends. It's worth really checking.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I can tell you. For example, Liverpool and City both
- 24:33Speaker 2: play on the twentieth of December. On that game week seventeen.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Egypt sorry start on the twenty second. I've gone against Zimbabwe,
- 24:41Speaker 2: so you think Mosallam might be able to play on
- 24:43Speaker 2: the twentieth, But even that I think is a little
- 24:45Speaker 2: bit touchy and I'm not sure if you'll be allowed
- 24:48Speaker 2: to play away as Spurs. By the way, for Liverpool,
- 24:50Speaker 2: on that game week seventeen, weekend of the twentieth and
- 24:53Speaker 2: twenty first of December, So it really depends when the
- 24:57Speaker 2: league played, when those players are playing in the promer,
- 25:00Speaker 2: and when their first African game is because for some
- 25:02Speaker 2: of them, game week seven sixteen, sorry, maybe the last
- 25:05Speaker 2: time they play in the Premier League and then we'll
- 25:07Speaker 2: miss out on seventeen and then the rest eighteen, nineteen, twenty,
- 25:09Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Alloy, let's seeing it go the other way around, though,
- 25:12Speaker 4: haven't we jo It was because like last time AFCOM
- 25:14Speaker 4: was played, we've seen players unexpectedly go early to join
- 25:18Speaker 4: up with our international teams and then that's caused issues
- 25:20Speaker 4: for us as FL managers.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So I think Jews is right.
- 25:23Speaker 4: There is a good chance that some of those players
- 25:25Speaker 4: stay and we see them in game week seventeen, But
- 25:29Speaker 4: there's also the opportunity, I think sometimes that these players
- 25:32Speaker 4: just just disappear before we're expecting them to, because suddenly
- 25:36Speaker 4: that's when the international teams have called up and the
- 25:38Speaker 4: club agrees to it.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So just something we go.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, usually it's a week for them to join up,
- 25:44Speaker 2: So sixteenth really I think should be okay ish, but yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 2: something to keep checking on.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Okay, let me run you through. We've mentioned loads of dates,
- 25:53Speaker 1: loads of game weeks, loads of actual dates. So twenty
- 25:55Speaker 1: first to thirty first of December is the group stage,
- 25:58Speaker 1: so that's game week seventeen eighteen nineteen. Third to the
- 26:00Speaker 1: sixth of January is the last sixteen and that coincide
- 26:03Speaker 1: with Game week twenty and twenty one. The ninth and
- 26:06Speaker 1: tenth of January is when the quarter finals will be played.
- 26:08Speaker 1: That coincides with the FA Cup third round. The fourteenth
- 26:11Speaker 1: of January is the Semis. That's one of the midweek
- 26:13Speaker 1: game weeks. The seventeenth is the third and fourth place playoff.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That's game week twenty two, and the eighteenth will be
- 26:19Speaker 1: on the final, which also falls in game week twenty two. Now, Sam,
- 26:23Speaker 1: all of these dates. It's funny because I think a
- 26:25Speaker 1: lot of people at this stage of the calendar year
- 26:27Speaker 1: are going, oh no, I can't think about Christmas, so,
- 26:29Speaker 1: oh no, it's still too early. It's still too early.
- 26:31Speaker 1: And now throwing African as well. If you're an FPL
- 26:34Speaker 1: manager that celebrates Christmas, good luck with all of this
- 26:37Speaker 1: planning that you've got to do. But are we getting
- 26:39Speaker 1: to ahead of ourselves and do we have to really
- 26:42Speaker 1: bear it in mind with our transfers because there is
- 26:44Speaker 1: still a few weeks to go between them, and you
- 26:46Speaker 1: don't want to miss the points of the players that
- 26:47Speaker 1: are performing well that are going to go. You're one
- 26:49Speaker 1: hundred percent right.
- 26:50Speaker 4: It's such a juggle, isn't it, Because you're part of
- 26:52Speaker 4: you is kind of thinking, well, I need to plan
- 26:55Speaker 4: for this, and I've got, however, many free transfers, like
- 26:58Speaker 4: you're in a different spot. You've got three free transfers
- 27:01Speaker 4: loving life like it's all good.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I've got one.
- 27:04Speaker 4: So with my one free transfer, I need to think
- 27:06Speaker 4: about one of my players fit unavailable and have I
- 27:08Speaker 4: got issues with Mark Gayhey and everything else? But also
- 27:12Speaker 4: if I then bring in if I want to go
- 27:14Speaker 4: for Manchester United and I bring in Enbomo, am I
- 27:17Speaker 4: doing the right thing there? Because am I just causing
- 27:19Speaker 4: myself a further transfer down the line? Am I better
- 27:21Speaker 4: off to just stick with a player that like Bruno,
- 27:25Speaker 4: who I know is not going to leave and disappear
- 27:26Speaker 4: off to African because you obviously can't play in that
- 27:29Speaker 4: because he's not African?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Is that a better option?
- 27:32Speaker 4: But then am I also doing myself out of four
- 27:34Speaker 4: weeks worth of potential points, because I think the better option,
- 27:39Speaker 4: sadly is the one that's disappearing off. So I do
- 27:42Speaker 4: think we have to be really mindful of that, and
- 27:44Speaker 4: it's why you need a really good strategy. Almost that
- 27:47Speaker 4: starts now that says, what what am I planning to
- 27:50Speaker 4: do when those African free transfers come in? How am
- 27:52Speaker 4: I planning to use them? If I still have chips?
- 27:55Speaker 4: What am I planning to do with them? Because in reality,
- 27:58Speaker 4: for example, if if Geors is right and then pemost
- 28:02Speaker 4: days he plays in game week seventeen and then he
- 28:03Speaker 4: disappears off, but they go out in the group stages,
- 28:06Speaker 4: he possibly only misses two matches for Manchester United and
- 28:09Speaker 4: then he's back for game weeks twenty and twenty one.
- 28:12Speaker 4: So it's one of those things that with these international
- 28:15Speaker 4: tournaments that appear in FPO, you can't you have to
- 28:18Speaker 4: kind of plan as if they're not going to be
- 28:19Speaker 4: around at all for any of this period of time
- 28:22Speaker 4: unless you want to see what happens to them in
- 28:25Speaker 4: the opening round. If he plays in seventeen, great, you
- 28:27Speaker 4: can watch what happens in the first game of the
- 28:29Speaker 4: group stage. Maybe use a free here around that as well,
- 28:32Speaker 4: and then maybe it's only one of the games that
- 28:34Speaker 4: he misses.
- 28:35Speaker 1: So it's all these things go on in my head.
- 28:37Speaker 1: My head's a bit of a mess, heales.
- 28:38Speaker 4: As you can tell his afcon's already started to have
- 28:41Speaker 4: an impact on my thinking with my transfers.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we're also though, it's is quite nice and have
- 28:46Speaker 1: our transfers topped up to five in game week sixteen.
- 28:50Speaker 1: So that's really important to remember, isn't it, Jules. So Sam,
- 28:53Speaker 1: just to confirm it, Yeah, that was a I want
- 28:57Speaker 1: to check. I think I understand this. So I say
- 28:59Speaker 1: I used all of my transfers that you just get
- 29:02Speaker 1: like when we go in game meeting. So it's game
- 29:04Speaker 1: week sixteen and I've used my five free transfers or
- 29:07Speaker 1: four free transfers a week before.
- 29:08Speaker 3: It will then.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Automatically go back up to five.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yes, So in game week fifteen, if you have five
- 29:14Speaker 4: free transfers and you use all five free transfers when
- 29:18Speaker 4: the deadline passes for game week fifteen and the game
- 29:21Speaker 4: week sixteen game week reloads, rather than just seeing one
- 29:25Speaker 4: free transfer, you'll see five free transfers again if you
- 29:29Speaker 4: have if you roll into or come out of or
- 29:33Speaker 4: go into game week sixteen. So game week fifteen comes in,
- 29:35Speaker 4: but you still have two free transfers in the bank.
- 29:38Speaker 4: When game week sixteen is game loads, you'll have five,
- 29:41Speaker 4: so you need to use.
- 29:42Speaker 3: All of them.
- 29:43Speaker 1: So you want to go into game week sixteen with
- 29:45Speaker 1: no free transfers, yes.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Because if you don't, you're so effectively if I take
- 29:50Speaker 4: three transfers into game week sixteen, I'm only getting the
- 29:54Speaker 4: benefit of two additional.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Losing three free transfers, essentially, aren't you.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Yes, exactly, So you need to make sure that you
- 30:02Speaker 4: use up all of your transfers heading into game week
- 30:04Speaker 4: sixteen so that when the deadline sixteen dead So basically
- 30:08Speaker 4: going for game with fifteen, use everything you've got. Don't
- 30:10Speaker 4: leave any free transfers in the bank. Even if that
- 30:12Speaker 4: means I'm fed up with my second goalkeeper and I
- 30:16Speaker 4: would never normally change that. That is the time to
- 30:19Speaker 4: do it, because then you get the benefit of having
- 30:22Speaker 4: your squad with five new changes that you can make
- 30:26Speaker 4: as a result of outcome, which.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Means you can even target a single game if you want,
- 30:30Speaker 2: because you will have those extra five. So if you
- 30:32Speaker 2: if you fancy, I don't know I didn't look, I
- 30:35Speaker 2: don't have all the fictualist like with me now. But
- 30:39Speaker 2: if you see there's one game that you really fancy,
- 30:41Speaker 2: and you fancy that player in that game because they
- 30:43Speaker 2: I don't know at home on a good run, just
- 30:46Speaker 2: make that one even that one transfer, one free transfer,
- 30:48Speaker 2: and then you get five more of the week after
- 30:51Speaker 2: that and you can get him out of your team
- 30:53Speaker 2: and replace him by somebody else who again has a
- 30:55Speaker 2: has a good run of fixtures or something like that.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So that's it's my us when you have to play really,
- 31:01Speaker 2: really well.
- 31:02Speaker 4: And that's why you need to think about it in advance,
- 31:04Speaker 4: right because actually we're going into twelve now, so we're
- 31:06Speaker 4: talking about we need to have done this in fifteen.
- 31:09Speaker 4: So for the like going into fifteen, we need to
- 31:11Speaker 4: have used up our transfers that when the game loads
- 31:13Speaker 4: for sixteen we have the five. So realistically that means
- 31:16Speaker 4: we've got twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. You've got four weeks
- 31:19Speaker 4: to make sure that you know what you're doing with
- 31:22Speaker 4: your transfers and don't have too many of them that
- 31:24Speaker 4: you don't know what you're doing. So I think you're right, gals.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I think it's an opportunity to be a little bit
- 31:29Speaker 4: more in the moment. With the fl You're not having
- 31:33Speaker 4: to think three, four, five, six game weeks. You get
- 31:36Speaker 4: a nice fixture for somebody, and you want to go
- 31:37Speaker 4: for them as a bit of a pump for when
- 31:39Speaker 4: we do it, because those transfers, you want to make
- 31:42Speaker 4: the most of them going out of or going into
- 31:44Speaker 4: sixteen rather.
- 31:45Speaker 1: So basically it's twelve thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, so we've got
- 31:47Speaker 1: four deadlines where you need to use all your transfers.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and of course that you'll get an extra one
- 31:52Speaker 4: as each one passes, so you do want to be
- 31:54Speaker 4: using them.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Oh gosh, I just thought I was being really smart
- 31:56Speaker 1: banking them.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Well, you are in some ways, because one of your
- 32:00Speaker 4: strategy scales could easily be that going into game week fifteen,
- 32:03Speaker 4: you go, I'm going to sort of mini wild card
- 32:05Speaker 4: and use the five that I've rolled in, and then
- 32:09Speaker 4: you'll set your team up so well, and then every
- 32:11Speaker 4: week just use one and keep it at five, because
- 32:14Speaker 4: then what you can do coming out of Afcon is
- 32:16Speaker 4: that you can have another little mini wild card in January,
- 32:20Speaker 4: which might then delay your needs to use your actual
- 32:22Speaker 4: world card until we get through into the latter part
- 32:25Speaker 4: of the season, which could work massively in your favor.
- 32:28Speaker 2: For game Week fifteen, for example, Man City at home
- 32:31Speaker 2: to Sunderland, you guts allow home to Burnley.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Liverpool go to Leeds.
- 32:36Speaker 2: You also have if you you know, if you fancy
- 32:38Speaker 2: a Man United player and Brandon Bobo and that might
- 32:41Speaker 2: be his last game or not, but they'll wear wolves
- 32:43Speaker 2: on the month on Monday Night football as well, So
- 32:45Speaker 2: game with fifteen might be fun to almost it's like
- 32:48Speaker 2: a mini free hit as well. If you can have
- 32:50Speaker 2: five players that you want in there for that you
- 32:53Speaker 2: just go all in and spend all your transfers on
- 32:57Speaker 2: and then on another City attacker on Liverpool, attacker on
- 33:01Speaker 2: something like that, especially on Newcastle because of the opponents
- 33:04Speaker 2: they have.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Gone. Sam, you did a big in highlation of breath,
- 33:08Speaker 1: you guy. I was just going to say.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Doors makes a valid point that I haven't mentioned yet
- 33:12Speaker 4: is that if you're going to use a free here
- 33:14Speaker 4: or a wild card in this period of time, remember
- 33:16Speaker 4: that that's going to stop you using one of your
- 33:18Speaker 4: free transfers. So if you're planning to wildcard or free
- 33:22Speaker 4: hitting game Week fifteen, which our managers might be planning
- 33:24Speaker 4: to do. You just need to make sure that you've
- 33:26Speaker 4: used your transfers heading into that so that you don't
- 33:28Speaker 4: have too many and failed to get the benefit coming out.
- 33:31Speaker 2: So when is the best time to play your free hit?
- 33:33Speaker 2: I haven't played the free hit to be fair, I
- 33:35Speaker 2: even forget to have good point.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a bench boost.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Oh gosh, yeah, you've got loads because we've got to
- 33:42Speaker 4: use them obviously before Christmas as well. I'm planning currently
- 33:45Speaker 4: planning to free hitting game week thirteen. Liverpool have great fixture,
- 33:49Speaker 4: then I don't really have any Liverpool assets. I don't
- 33:52Speaker 4: have any Liverpool assets. It gives me a game week
- 33:55Speaker 4: to look at Liverpool and how they play in twelve,
- 33:58Speaker 4: and then treble up on for that one, so that
- 34:02Speaker 4: I'm kind of looking at it that way.
- 34:03Speaker 1: The other option is that I.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Do it in fifteen, the game week you've just mentioned Jeles,
- 34:07Speaker 4: because fifteen means I have the ability to target all
- 34:10Speaker 4: of those fixtures that you've just mentioned without needing to
- 34:15Speaker 4: heavily invest in those players because of what might happen
- 34:18Speaker 4: with afkhon and everything else the week after, and the
- 34:20Speaker 4: fact that I actually don't necessarily want all of those
- 34:22Speaker 4: assets for the game weeks that follow So thirteen and
- 34:25Speaker 4: fifteen and actually, weirdly seventeen also feel like the odd
- 34:30Speaker 4: numbers feel like really good opportunities to use use your
- 34:33Speaker 4: free hit chip between now and the end of the season. Robert, Now,
- 34:37Speaker 4: in the end of this window, anyway.
- 34:39Speaker 1: When would you suggest if a manager still had a bench, Booce,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I guess you just bench Bruce. I've still got their bench, Bruce. Now.
- 34:46Speaker 1: To be fair like, I'm actually looking at it next
- 34:48Speaker 1: week because as it stands, my bench is Mikiele and Jaka,
- 34:52Speaker 1: who've got Fulham away, and Voltamajo, who is probably potentially
- 34:56Speaker 1: going to be one of the transfers I got rid
- 34:58Speaker 1: of because he's got a city obviously. What I hate, though,
- 35:00Speaker 1: is I've got my two goalkeepers playing each other because
- 35:02Speaker 1: it's Burnley, Chelsea and the Bravka. I don't know if
- 35:06Speaker 1: going to keep it clean see against Chelsea. But I
- 35:07Speaker 1: look at those two outfield players, in particular with Mikiyela
- 35:10Speaker 1: and Jaka, and think potentially there could be some returns there.
- 35:13Speaker 1: But also the other reason I've kept these transfers in
- 35:16Speaker 1: the bank is because I can if I want to
- 35:18Speaker 1: potentially tinker with my bench a little bit to make
- 35:20Speaker 1: it better and then also use transfers to do the
- 35:22Speaker 1: opposite coming out of it. Particularly no, and we've got
- 35:24Speaker 1: the African transfers to come, so there has been some
- 35:27Speaker 1: planning behind this madness upholding it. I think with the
- 35:31Speaker 1: bench boost, it actually doesn't there's not a right answer
- 35:34Speaker 1: to that question. And team dependent, No, but it's so
- 35:37Speaker 1: team dependent, isn't it is? And I think it also
- 35:39Speaker 1: depends on what you're planning to do. So if your
- 35:42Speaker 1: current strategy is, well, I'm going to save to five transfers,
- 35:45Speaker 1: So say this week you don't make one, and then
- 35:47Speaker 1: next week you don't make one, and so you're going
- 35:49Speaker 1: into fourteen and you've got five, you could go right, well,
- 35:53Speaker 1: game with fourteen will be my bench boost. Then I've
- 35:55Speaker 1: got five transfers. I'm just going to build this team
- 35:58Speaker 1: for that week because actually you've only got one more
- 36:02Speaker 1: deadline after that, and then you're getting the five topped
- 36:06Speaker 1: up anyway from f Con, so you can get rid
- 36:08Speaker 1: of anyone you don't want to have. So I think
- 36:10Speaker 1: it's very much dependent on what your team looks like.
- 36:12Speaker 1: I think if you're looking at your bench already this
- 36:14Speaker 1: week and going there's two players i'd really want to
- 36:16Speaker 1: play one. I don't really like the look off because
- 36:18Speaker 1: he's got Man City, but I've got three free transfers
- 36:20Speaker 1: and i can change it.
- 36:21Speaker 4: And then I mean, Debravka's not really an issue, is e.
- 36:24Speaker 4: You might get some save points against Chelsea, So if
- 36:26Speaker 4: he gets you three, then actually that's not looking like
- 36:28Speaker 4: a terrible thing, particularly if the rest of your bench
- 36:31Speaker 4: then do quite well. Like when you look at how
- 36:33Speaker 4: my bench did, Debravka did not do well, but the
- 36:36Speaker 4: rest of the bench boost did really well that week,
- 36:38Speaker 4: So I think that's that's key. I think it's more
- 36:42Speaker 4: important cows that you work out when you're going to
- 36:44Speaker 4: play your triple captain and you're free here, because they
- 36:48Speaker 4: feel like more important decisions, and then you use your
- 36:52Speaker 4: bench boost in one of the weeks when you're not
- 36:54Speaker 4: playing those two transfers.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Yeah, makes a lot of sense, lots of planning. I
- 36:58Speaker 1: love the new chips and we've got more of them,
- 37:00Speaker 1: but it does mean you have to be a lot
- 37:01Speaker 1: more smart with it. Jews, what chips have you got to.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Use by the which should give game with thirteen? I
- 37:08Speaker 2: think City at Home to Leeds for Harland obviously, yeah, yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 2: and then the free hit that, like Sam said, just
- 37:16Speaker 2: looking at the fixtures, fifteen could be I think a
- 37:18Speaker 2: good time to play it, and then it's out of
- 37:20Speaker 2: my head and I can have all the free transfers
- 37:23Speaker 2: for A've gone to.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Play freely without having to think about the free hit
- 37:27Speaker 3: as well.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Samuel plans he might have mentioned in Africa on I
- 37:30Speaker 4: think I might go the opposite way around to Jews.
- 37:31Speaker 4: I think I might go free hit thirteen and then
- 37:34Speaker 4: triple Captain fifteen. I haven't fully decided yet, but thirteen
- 37:38Speaker 4: and fifteen definitely feel like the week to me. The
- 37:40Speaker 4: reason I think triple Captain in fifteen is I think
- 37:42Speaker 4: it will help me with my transfer strategy rather than
- 37:45Speaker 4: having a big chip like the free hit where I
- 37:48Speaker 4: can't use a transfer heading into Afcon. So I think
- 37:52Speaker 4: that's what I'm going to do it that way around, Okay,
- 37:55Speaker 4: makes a lot of sense. Anyone thinking about Game Meet
- 37:56Speaker 4: twelve at this point or do you want to save
- 37:58Speaker 4: it all for next week?
- 37:59Speaker 1: Jewels?
- 38:01Speaker 2: The only thing is no, I like the Netal fixture
- 38:03Speaker 2: and the Chelsea fixture obviously in that game, and I
- 38:05Speaker 2: brought netto in because they had Wolves and then Burnley
- 38:09Speaker 2: in the two fixtures, so I like that. But I'm
- 38:12Speaker 2: so tempted by m Bomo. I think he's in great form.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I think is a great player and united like like
- 38:16Speaker 2: some said, a clicking at the moment. So I'm thinking
- 38:20Speaker 2: about that. But I could wait another week probably and
- 38:21Speaker 2: bring them bo in.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Sam, See, I.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Don't see the pointing way in another week because you're
- 38:27Speaker 4: a week closer to him leaving.
- 38:28Speaker 1: If you're going to do it, do it now.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but Nettleware Burnley. I fancy him too, almost as
- 38:33Speaker 2: much as Bomo home to Everton.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Didn't you only bring in the nessa last week as well?
- 38:37Speaker 2: But just for Tood that was for two weeks. That
- 38:41Speaker 2: was the plan anyway, and then to go from netto
- 38:43Speaker 2: to Enbomo.
- 38:45Speaker 3: But I could.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it depends if Boo at home to Everton against
- 38:48Speaker 2: Everton sorry, or netto away Burnley.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Okay, Sam, how much of you? What are you thinking
- 38:55Speaker 1: about your team? Well, I've got issues, Glow, haven't I?
- 38:57Speaker 4: Because obviously I've got and see how all these players
- 39:00Speaker 4: come out of international break as well, because that's the
- 39:02Speaker 4: other thing is that most of my team have gone
- 39:04Speaker 4: away with their countries, so I have to be mindful
- 39:07Speaker 4: of watching that and making sure that everyone makes it
- 39:09Speaker 4: back in one piece. Nick Pope is my goalkeeper who
- 39:12Speaker 4: got conceded and then got substituted with concussion, so I'm
- 39:16Speaker 4: assuming that he's going to be back and available for
- 39:18Speaker 4: game week twelve, but that is something I need to
- 39:19Speaker 4: be considering, plus the fact I don't actually like him
- 39:21Speaker 4: for game week twelve because as you just mentioned, Cows,
- 39:23Speaker 4: he's got Manchester City.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So do I really want to.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Be playing Nick Pope? Could I just make a goalkeeper change?
- 39:29Speaker 4: Do I want to spend a transfer my one transfer
- 39:32Speaker 4: on a goalkeeper change? That feels a bit ropey? Do
- 39:35Speaker 4: I just play the Bravka? Don't think I want to
- 39:37Speaker 4: do that either, So that's playing out gay. He is
- 39:40Speaker 4: obviously a factor seeing what happens there. Voltemada voltimatter to
- 39:46Speaker 4: Tiago is something that I'm massively looking at. But I'm
- 39:49Speaker 4: put off by Thiago's form away from home, which is
- 39:53Speaker 4: another factor for free hitting in game week thirteen, because
- 39:56Speaker 4: Thiago's got a fantastic home fixture that week, so I
- 40:00Speaker 4: could just get him in for the home fixture where
- 40:02Speaker 4: he's got incredible form and then not have to worry
- 40:05Speaker 4: about the away fixtures. So I think for me, this
- 40:09Speaker 4: week will be spent trying to lock down what my
- 40:12Speaker 4: chip strategy is going to look like, what would a team,
- 40:14Speaker 4: what would a free hit team look like for thirteen,
- 40:17Speaker 4: and therefore try and work back from that in terms
- 40:19Speaker 4: of the players that I think are worth the investment,
- 40:22Speaker 4: because Bombo feels like the one I would like to
- 40:24Speaker 4: get to this week as well, but I don't have
- 40:26Speaker 4: a clear route to that unless I take Valdemard right down,
- 40:31Speaker 4: which would then allow me to come up from Kudis
- 40:33Speaker 4: to Embombo, which I don't hate by the way. And
- 40:36Speaker 4: cudas we should have mentioned, is one of those players
- 40:38Speaker 4: that's not going to Afcon because his team hasn't qualified,
- 40:40Speaker 4: so he's not one that we have to be mindful
- 40:43Speaker 4: of or worried about, but obviously has missed the last
- 40:46Speaker 4: couple of matches for Spurs through injury. So I do
- 40:49Speaker 4: think that afcorn is now starting to play a big
- 40:52Speaker 4: role in the decisions that I'm making, and I think
- 40:55Speaker 4: the transfer this week will be very much dependent upon
- 40:58Speaker 4: if the team make it through in one piece of internationals.
- 41:02Speaker 1: It's always so scary and statal ring, isn't it. There's
- 41:04Speaker 1: me showing off about banking my transfers. I'll get three
- 41:06Speaker 1: injuries and wipe out my three free transfers and can't
- 41:09Speaker 1: use my bench boosts. That's really what's gonna happen in
- 41:11Speaker 1: New Okay. Well, there is no deadline this week, of course,
- 41:13Speaker 1: but plenty of football, so do watch it, keep abreast
- 41:17Speaker 1: of it all. Jewel will keep us up to speed
- 41:18Speaker 1: next week. I'm sure we'll get an international round up
- 41:20Speaker 1: with him. But yeah, don't go too early with the
- 41:22Speaker 1: transfers because you might need them. We'll be back next
- 41:25Speaker 1: week to look ahead to game week twelve. Enjoy the
- 41:27Speaker 1: international fixtures and we'll see you again soon, babe,
