- 0:00That car show is brought to you by Sheffield Watches.
- 0:03The Sheffield watch brand has a long and storied history, but it
- 0:06was revived a couple years back by our good friend and TrueCar
- 0:09guy Jay Turkis. Jay was gifted a Sheffield watch
- 0:12by his parents when he was a kid and he still has it to this day.
- 0:16Jay wanted to make the same experience available to all of
- 0:19us, a reasonably priced, high quality watch that indoors and
- 0:23that we enjoy sharing with our fellow watch enthusiasts and car
- 0:25people. From divers watches to watches
- 0:29designed for travel to collaboration with automotive
- 0:32pals like Spike Ferriston and Jay Leno, Heffield has a watch
- 0:35for you. Find your own Sheffieldwatch at
- 0:38sheffieldwatches.com and at Sheffield under score.

- 0:47heard about Sheffield watches from that car show.
- 0:50I promise I am fun at parties. This week on that car show, Ryan
- 0:54takes a break from designing 7 more Cracker Barrel logos to
- 0:57share some experiences from last weekend.
- 1:00Lindsay admits that she's been licking the outside of windows
- 1:03when it comes to the Ford GTD. I learned that Sam bedding
- 1:09Bernardino is not an exotic location that should be
- 1:12cherished, but a place that you should get out of as quick as
- 1:15you can. We talked a little bit about the
- 1:17shows that we've been to recently and what it takes to
- 1:21put on a show. Lindsay attended the show in the
- 1:24Pacific Northwest that's been going for five years and was
- 1:26started by a young man called Tom, who was 15 when he started
- 1:30the show. We have a little bit of fun when
- 1:32we pair up each other to famous cars and famous car owners.
- 1:36Then we talk a little bit about cars that had Corvette engines
- 1:41and there are more than the five that were listed on the website.
- 1:43And then finally, we talk about what plans are coming up.
- 1:46And in particular, Ryan has his annual adventure in all sorts of
- 1:50exotic cars in Colorado as part of the Colorado Grand.
- 1:54So all that and a hell of a lot more on this week's That Car
- 1:57show Bullshit Long Island Ice Tea.
- 2:02I've never had a Long Island Iced tea my whole life. 50 years
- 2:05of well, I was going to say 50 years of drinking, that's not
- 2:07true, but I've never once enjoyed a Long Island Iced Tea.
- 2:11You got to try it. They're dangerously delicious
- 2:13at. What point did we start playing?
- 2:16I've never, ever have I right? Just we're all just going to be
- 2:21constantly taking sips. Yeah, well.
- 2:26Welcome to this week's edition of that car show.
- 2:29The gang is all back together again for another week.
- 2:31How are we doing that's? Right.
- 2:33Good. How are you guys?
- 2:34It's great to see you about this.
- 2:36Emotionally scarred Wait. Do tell.
- 2:41So I decided to go to a concert last weekend in another part of
- 2:45California that I've never discovered before.
- 2:47And it sounded glamorous because it was this place called San
- 2:50Bernardino. What I didn't realize is San
- 2:53Bernardino is one of the sketchiest places in California.
- 2:58Is that right? That's accurate.
- 3:01I just want to say I'm sorry now to all the San Bernardinians
- 3:05listeners. All our listeners from San
- 3:06Bernardino I. I the Inland Empire.
- 3:11They can share their tales. I realized my mistake
- 3:15afterwards, but I booked another Wyndham hotel.
- 3:17So if you remember when I went to the Daytona 200, it was a
- 3:21Wyndham hotel, and this one was a Wyndham hotel as well.
- 3:24Well, I drove into the car park. It was a two-story motel.
- 3:28Obviously I had the Boxster, the new Boxster.
- 3:31There were half naked people in the car park drinking alcohol.
- 3:36There was one car that only had three inflated tires.
- 3:40And the windows were, yeah, the windows of some of these rooms
- 3:46were, were kind of, you know, cracked.
- 3:48And so I sat in the car park for 10 minutes trying to find
- 3:52another. Hotel.
- 3:55Like it was the second time of my life where I've never I
- 3:58didn't check into that hotel and I decided that Redlands was a
- 4:03much better place. What's the saying you can't go
- 4:07home, but you're definitely not going to stay here?
- 4:11I'm also picturing Dan, you know, this British, you know,
- 4:14gentleman and a brand new Guards Red Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0.
- 4:20I'm sure all eyes were on him. No, they didn't notice they were
- 4:23that drunk. They didn't notice me in the car
- 4:25park. Oh boy.
- 4:27Yeah, it also, I mean, I've travelled with Dan.
- 4:30Dan's bar isn't real high, so this place must.
- 4:34That's how you know it had to be really bad.
- 4:35Well and I will say in defence of Wyndham, I've had reasonable
- 4:38experiences there so it may not be, it may not be across the
- 4:41board, but yeah, that's when you pull in and there's half naked
- 4:45people outside. That's how you know it's a
- 4:47party. Sounds like a bad naked yeah.
- 4:51And none of them were wearing brief pants.
- 4:52For the record, it Yeah, so if only.
- 4:57They were. That would have been the coolest
- 4:59motel ever. But.
- 5:00I would have, yeah. I'd have checked in.
- 5:02I was going to say, you might have actually stayed there.
- 5:06I I got a got a birthday card for my parents.
- 5:08It's got underpants on. This has become a thing.
- 5:11I've had people check in with me ever since that episode checking
- 5:14in to me and my undies. I've still not heard from Roof
- 5:19but I would love to hear from roof.
- 5:21Would love to get. Some I'm sure they're working on
- 5:22a prototype. I heard next year instead of
- 5:25hats it's underpants and it's all going.
- 5:27To get it to you, Ryan. This is now going to be a
- 5:31through line in your life for the rest like for the duration
- 5:35Ryan it's. Just I'm afraid it might be this
- 5:37is going to be what it is, yeah. Does it give you somewhere?
- 5:41I was thinking, does it give you somewhere to tuck in your yellow
- 5:43boat? Oh family, nicely done.
- 5:51So I went from San Bernardino to Redlands, I saw the concert
- 5:55which is great and then Tori texted me to say I sold a car to
- 6:00the lead singer 8 months ago which was just crazy.
- 6:04Amazing. It is a small world and that guy
- 6:07gets around. Right.
- 6:08Yeah, yeah. So.
- 6:10So what did you see? What was the lineup?
- 6:12It was a band called The Ataris. They were big.
- 6:15In the 2000s they did a cover of Boys of Summer.
- 6:19Right, right. That was obviously.
- 6:20They're still touring, Yeah. And then I didn't stay for many
- 6:24songs, but then it was Alien Ant Farm if you remember them.
- 6:28Sure, yeah. It sounds fun.
- 6:30Yeah, like they did a cover of a Michael Jackson song.
- 6:33That's right. That's right.
- 6:35Yeah. Yeah, it's Smith.
- 6:37Importantly. How's that car?
- 6:40Car is great and still need to still need to ride it in right.
- 6:43So you need to get to 1000 miles and I'm about 650 now and so a
- 6:48little bit more to go. I had the top down until it was
- 6:51109 and then decided it was too hot at that point.
- 6:55But I yeah, it's got good air conditioning for sure.
- 6:57And you had the opportunity to test it.
- 6:59I know I heard it was a wild heat wave down there the last
- 7:02few days. Hot, hot, hot.
- 7:04But it was good. What have you guys been up to
- 7:06then? I went to the Northwest Exotics.
- 7:10It was the last event of the season for them up here, which
- 7:13has grown into like if you're in the car world in Seattle, it's a
- 7:18cool story because it was started by a 15 year old and
- 7:21it's really grown into a huge event and they do like they're
- 7:27now themed. So this was, I think, Italian,
- 7:33and there were some really cool cars and it was fun when we were
- 7:37walking up, there was a reliable truck outside, which, you know,
- 7:40especially coming off of car week, that's always an indicator
- 7:43of like good stuff ahead, you know, when reliable's there.
- 7:48Yeah, I've been walking in. There was a GT4, you know, with
- 7:51the carbon hood and this amazing teal green that I've never seen
- 7:53before, which was beautiful. There was a Peugeot 2O5 GTI.
- 7:58There was an M1 that I actually got to see the owner climb into
- 8:01and drive away, which is really cool.
- 8:03You know, neat to see one of those and even more fun to see
- 8:07it driven. And then there was a 66427
- 8:11Cobra, which I always, you know, it's near and dear to my heart.
- 8:14There was a Pagani Utopia. Which is.
- 8:18Full carbon fiber, you know, with over it.
- 8:21I mean, that is it. It was stunning.
- 8:26It's really something to behold. It's really a work of art and to
- 8:30get to see one in person and be able to get up close to it was
- 8:34really special. And it tells you really how much
- 8:37the event has grown and how well regarded it is with what they're
- 8:41able to bring in. There was a special edition
- 8:46Mustang GTD, which is, they're calling it the Spirit of America
- 8:49Edition. And delivery celebrates the
- 8:52first time that a Mustang won the Tour de France in 1964.
- 8:58And I actually got to see that car in Le Mans in June.
- 9:01So that was pretty fun to see it again.
- 9:03And there was a kind of an interscope style 9935 with BBS
- 9:10van wheels. There was a 9/11 Carrera Cup car
- 9:14that had been driven in the Great Britain series.
- 9:18So that was unique. And then what else?
- 9:21There was a 296 GTV Ferrari and a Viper green GT4.
- 9:27So we thought of Dan McGinnis and let's see our friends
- 9:32McLaren. There was a 98-M3 sedan that had
- 9:35been restored. You know, and I always love this
- 9:38approach because you get some really interesting examples.
- 9:42But it was. They restored it with the idea
- 9:45of if BMW was making an E36M3 sedan now, what would it look
- 9:50like? Yeah.
- 9:51And it was beautiful. And then there was an F1 car,
- 9:56there was a 67, yeah, no big deal.
- 10:01And then there was a McLaren Senna, which I have never seen
- 10:05one of those in person. They.
- 10:07Have see through doors. Oh yeah, that's the best part.
- 10:10That's the best part. So what happened?
- 10:13What's happened with this 15 year old?
- 10:14Where is he now? Or she.
- 10:15So actually he's a friend of mine.
- 10:18Yeah, you know him. Yeah.
- 10:19So it's, it's Tom. He's now 20, right?
- 10:22I saw him yesterday. Oh, you.
- 10:24Did so he studies in LA but he's about to do a semester in
- 10:28London. So but yeah I mean I've been
- 10:32speaking to him for about 6 months or so and actually didn't
- 10:36doing a bit of mentoring for him so but really nice.
- 10:41We should get him on the show when he's back from London,
- 10:42yeah. That sounds fun.
- 10:43That would be. Awesome.
- 10:44You know, it's gone from a pretty small event to obviously
- 10:47a significant event and the community around Seattle kind
- 10:50of, you know, gathers around on it.
- 10:53There was also a private event the night before at a private
- 10:56car collection which looked outstanding it.
- 11:01Really did. I was having a lot of FOMO
- 11:03afterwards. Fear of missing out is this
- 11:06place is on Mercer Island. So it's on the the island in
- 11:08between the two bridges. So it's on the water on yeah,
- 11:12check out we we can share some of the pictures.
- 11:15I'm sure I can find some that we can share, but but yeah, I mean,
- 11:18someone who's who's now 20 and has seen the event grow and you
- 11:23know, it's kudos to Tom and the team around him.
- 11:26So yeah. What are you doing at 15?
- 11:30Not this, and I didn't, I didn't realize until after the event,
- 11:33but they had the designer of the Ferrari Enzo there.
- 11:36He was at the event the night before and then he was at the
- 11:38show also. And Dwight Knowlton from Carpe
- 11:43Vayam actually designed the art for the poster for this for this
- 11:47event. And this event is notoriously
- 11:49like the like the bouncer at the gate, if you will, is, is is
- 11:53tough, right? Like, you've got to have some
- 11:55pretty good iron to get in, right?
- 11:57It's definitely curated, Yeah, yeah.
- 11:59Very curated. The centre is in the Mulberry
- 12:02colours I think. Is that right?
- 12:06It was white, fluorescent orange and black.
- 12:08Yeah. OK, maybe I'm thinking of a
- 12:10different car. I think it's the Grillo's car.
- 12:12Could it be? Oh, I think you're right.
- 12:16So yeah, there was sort of car royalty there as well.
- 12:20The I've sat in that M1. Really.
- 12:23Yeah, so that M1 used to belong to racer Johnny Ducato, and it's
- 12:27now owned by BMW collector Peter Gleason up in the Pacific
- 12:31Northwest. Oh yeah.
- 12:33Oh, that makes sense. Well, and it's such a nice venue
- 12:35because it's not enormous, which also like it's sort of like,
- 12:40even if they hadn't set out to curate it, the space dictates
- 12:43that it needs to be, you know, carefully curated.
- 12:46So it's it's like the perfect size because they can bring in a
- 12:50lot of really cool cars, but it's not so big.
- 12:52You can see everything if you want and you still have time to
- 12:54talk to your friends. And it's a beautiful, you know,
- 12:56it's on the water on Lake Washington.
- 12:59And so it's like it's practically perfect in every
- 13:02way. And Speaking of events that take
- 13:04a lot of coordination etcetera, I think Ryan, you, you didn't go
- 13:08to an event last weekend, but you witnessed some of that
- 13:11challenges around coordination. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:14Shout out to the Morgan Adams Foundation, Concord here in
- 13:17Denver. A lot of friends went.
- 13:18I ended up not going. Long story, you know, call it
- 13:22burned out from cars, call it whatever you want.
- 13:24I didn't go. For the first time in several
- 13:26years, it looked fantastic. I didn't do it.
- 13:29Said just kind of relaxed around here.
- 13:31What's? That like.
- 13:34It was needed. It was needed.
- 13:35Although strangely, the Chinese tourists are back.
- 13:38Have I? Have I shared this with you?
- 13:41Wait, do tell. We were, this was a couple
- 13:43months ago. We were in the living room and
- 13:45we noticed there was a group of very obviously Chinese tourists,
- 13:49right, you know, out in front of the house taking pictures and
- 13:52taking pictures of each other in front of our house.
- 13:54And you've both been to our house.
- 13:56I would say it's a pretty typical, you know, modest brick,
- 13:59you know, bungalow or whatever. I mean, and we we thought, OK,
- 14:03well, this is interesting when they, you know, they're like the
- 14:06ghost. They could have been and but but
- 14:13this started this actually, this is pre underwear, right?
- 14:15It's just pre underwear. Story It's not because this was
- 14:18the man who created the roof underwear.
- 14:20No. Yeah, known worldwide.
- 14:24Well, then it happened again. Or like, well, there must be
- 14:26something to this. Well, they, they came back.
- 14:29I've looked into this. This is a thing.
- 14:31Dan, I, I googled this on bbc.com.
- 14:34Your people, they report a story Kidlington Chinese tourists
- 14:39attracted by quote UN quote quiet houses.
- 14:41Do you know, first of all, do you know where Kidlington is in
- 14:43the UK? Yes, it's an oxygen.
- 14:46It's quite near where I grew up. OK, you're kidding.
- 14:49OK, Yeah, well, apparently this is a thing.
- 14:54This article says residents were baffled by coaches of sightseers
- 14:57arriving in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, and posing for
- 15:00photos in front of gardens and against parked cars.
- 15:04And at least in the UK, apparently these tourists seek
- 15:07out sort of prototypical British abodes and they like to take
- 15:11pictures. And it's, you know, it was a
- 15:14little weird. It was a little like being in
- 15:15the zoo. I'll be, but I would, you know,
- 15:18our house is again, a pretty modest place, but I think it
- 15:21probably is. It probably checks off a lot of
- 15:22the boxes of like what an American house should look like,
- 15:25right? And so apparently we're on some
- 15:28checklist or something. I'd love to know where else they
- 15:30stop but rain shine. Feel like I should go and sell
- 15:35lemonade or something. I was just thinking your
- 15:36daughter should set up a lemonade stool.
- 15:38I know. Yeah.
- 15:40Or you any good shop? They're hard to predict, you
- 15:42know, they just pop up and then they're they're gone and and and
- 15:45they've been respectful. I have no real issue with that.
- 15:47I just of all the houses, you know, in Denver, why mine?
- 15:51Like you know, it seems seems kind of uneventful, but good on
- 15:55on them. Yeah.
- 15:57So that was the we should check Google Maps, like is there some,
- 16:01you know, you go on and it's like a pin or a whatever.
- 16:03And so does is it like Kidlington tour #13 I mean.
- 16:07As far as I know, Elvis didn't live here, I don't think.
- 16:11That you know. Of the crimes of the century or
- 16:13anything like that. I just, I, you know, I, I, I
- 16:17don't know. We've got nice landscaping.
- 16:18I spend an awful lot of time out there.
- 16:21That's all I can. Yeah, it's a lovely.
- 16:22That's what I, I did in lieu of Morgan Adams this year, but I
- 16:25look forward to going back next year.
- 16:27It looked like a hell of a show. I apparently had more airplanes
- 16:30this year. So if you went to the show, if
- 16:32you're listening, please let us know.
- 16:34But a great event. They're really expanding their
- 16:37reach. They're doing a the Concorde is
- 16:40always on a on a Saturday evening.
- 16:41They're doing an event on Sunday at the Polo Grounds, which I
- 16:44didn't even know was a thing here in Denver.
- 16:46So just just when you think your life is good, there's find out
- 16:50that there's a whole other team. And but I guess it was a it was
- 16:56a great event. So anyway, next year, next year.
- 16:58Thinking about those people that you heard at Quayle saying,
- 17:02well, at least we know we're worth the same amount as
- 17:04everybody else here. I still think about that.
- 17:07That was that was something, yeah.
- 17:10But it got me thinking, you know, just even.
- 17:12So this relatively local event. No, they they, they draw from
- 17:15all over and they get a lot of people going back east after car
- 17:18week. But what, what a logistical sort
- 17:20of just achievement it is. And it got me really thinking
- 17:24about car week in the quail and, and Pebble and not just those,
- 17:27but the auction houses, you know, and, and I think we might
- 17:30be having someone from one of the auction houses joining us as
- 17:33soon who maybe can shed some light on that.
- 17:35But just just again, you talked about the reliable carriers
- 17:38getting the cars in, selling the tickets, the, the, the vendors,
- 17:42you know, that I just, I cannot imagine that sort of stuff.
- 17:45That's the stuff that really impresses me, right?
- 17:47Like that's the stuff that I know I can't do.
- 17:50And I don't know, maybe it's an insight, but.
- 17:54I think you're right. Even, you know, I think if you
- 17:57haven't been involved in putting an event on like that, you go
- 18:01like, oh, we just want to do like a simple little car show.
- 18:04And then especially when it starts to scale up.
- 18:07I mean, I know, you know, my family is involved with the
- 18:10Cobra Club in Orange County and they do a car show every year to
- 18:13benefit the charity that they've chosen that year.
- 18:16And they get between 75 and 85 cars.
- 18:20So it's not enormous, especially when you compare it to some of
- 18:23the car week events. But having seen the back end of
- 18:27that, it is a lot of work. So I can only imagine it's
- 18:30exponentially more, you know, obviously the bigger you get,
- 18:33like it's a lot of effort. I could barely organize a
- 18:37wedding, you know? There's no cars involved.
- 18:41Don't know, like I just all the moving parts.
- 18:43I just, I, I guess I never really had an appreciation for
- 18:46that. And it really hit me this year
- 18:48and it's just fascinated by it. Yeah.
- 18:51Love to love to, you know, get a peek behind that curtain, I
- 18:53guess. And to get someone on don't mean
- 18:55he's. Yeah, kind of things.
- 18:57And there's at least one car manufacturer that recognizes the
- 19:01high quality of journalism coming from Mr. Ryan Barky.
- 19:04You. You got a very polite note.
- 19:06I understand from a certain car manufacturer.
- 19:08You're kind to say that, Or at least their PR, you know, firm,
- 19:11you know, Yeah, did this article for Autoblog about the G90,
- 19:14which we've talked about ad nauseam.
- 19:16Really like the car, but I struggled a little bit, you
- 19:18know, with who's this car for, right, Right.
- 19:21Sort of a baller on a short of a baller on a budget or what have
- 19:23you. But you know, got a really nice
- 19:25note from them basically extending all the graces moving
- 19:28forward. So you may be hearing more about
- 19:30Genesis cars. That car show might be called
- 19:35That Genesis Car. That car show perpetually
- 19:41brought to you by Genesis here on out.
- 19:43Thank you. And Sheffield watches, of
- 19:44course. And Sheffield watches.
- 19:46Yeah, yeah. But thanks for mentioning that.
- 19:47Yeah, that was that was that was fun and and just had an article
- 19:50in Autoblog about Car Week sort of my impressions and getting
- 19:54older and the importance of friends and all that.
- 19:55So if you haven't checked it out, please, please do.
- 19:57I've had some very nice responses from people.
- 19:59I think it resonated with a lot of other people and quote UN
- 20:02quote my demographics so. But thank you, it's a great
- 20:07read. As always, so definitely go
- 20:09check it out. Thanks.
- 20:10And I think a couple of the shows have reached out to you
- 20:12just to acknowledge that piece as well, right, So.
- 20:15Yeah, that's been fantastic. Thank you.
- 20:17Especially Pebble and and also Concorso Italiano.
- 20:22So yeah, maybe we'll have them on on the show in time too.
- 20:25Let's do it. Yeah, news items.
- 20:28Firstly, that old orange McLaren collection is sold to a private
- 20:33buy. Did you guys see that?
- 20:34I did, I thought. Parents sent me that article.
- 20:37This is this is this is the reach that that this thing has
- 20:40had so. Yeah, right.
- 20:42Your parents are on top of it. Well, and isn't that interesting
- 20:45that sort of the big collections that have been the topics of
- 20:49discussion. We had the white collection and
- 20:51now we've had the autumn orange metallic, you know, McLaren
- 20:56collection. What would your colours be if
- 21:01you had a collection? It was one colour.
- 21:03First thing that comes to mind, what are you?
- 21:06Doing Astoria Blue. OK, it's.
- 21:08A BMW colour, isn't it? Yeah, that's the that was the
- 21:12the M exclusive colour blue for the E36.
- 21:17Yes. No, it will.
- 21:19Every time I see it I'm like, yes.
- 21:21Yeah, I think I would go for like a either a British racing
- 21:25green or, you know, an Irish green.
- 21:28Yeah. Also a good choice.
- 21:30Yeah. And then Ryan when we.
- 21:32Called say Sepia Brown but I think would either be Muirblau
- 21:36or Brewster Green. Shout out to our our friend with
- 21:39the Brewster Green GT4 that I'm very envious of so.
- 21:43Yeah. So this this was just on this,
- 21:46this was 19 Mclarens, the majority of which were I think
- 21:52it was, was it the last of each model?
- 21:57It also included the McLaren F1 and it sold as a full package.
- 22:03So very similar to there was a Bernie Eccleston collection of
- 22:06Formula One cars they sold as a complete package.
- 22:09And this has as well. And it's interesting because
- 22:11someone I know was looking at just the McLaren F1 from that
- 22:15collection and apparently there are 7 McLaren F ones for sale
- 22:19right now apparently. And this was kind of the one to
- 22:26have because of its uniqueness, the fact it was orange,
- 22:29etcetera. But there was no way that they
- 22:32were going to separate that from the rest.
- 22:33So you literally bought a McLaren F1 and got the rest of
- 22:36the cars right if if that was the way to do it.
- 22:39But. What's the going price on an F1
- 22:41right now at the end? I think it's mid 20s.
- 22:47It depends. There's a few out there that
- 22:48have been crashed a lot and they still get Mr. Money.
- 22:52Yeah. Right the bean and also the
- 22:54daily driver was crashed twice or crashed once and set got
- 22:58caught fire so. But it's interesting in the mid
- 23:0220s, that's a lot of money. Yeah, RM Sotheby's have one
- 23:05that's a private sealed bid at the minute.
- 23:08So I'll be interested to see if that gets publicized as to what
- 23:10that goes for. Well, and I wonder if that's
- 23:13ever happened before where there's that many for sale at
- 23:16the same time, like that's pretty.
- 23:17That's a lot, right it. Feels like a moment in time,
- 23:20yeah. Yeah.
- 23:22I I think they made, I think it was just under 100, OK in total.
- 23:28So that's 7%. That's that's, that's up there.
- 23:32Yeah, if you if you got an F1, I don't know all the colors or
- 23:35whatever, but obviously we've seen silver, we've seen black,
- 23:37we've seen orange. I don't know what else is out
- 23:39there. Yellow.
- 23:40Yellow, What are you going for? Lindsay.
- 23:45I think blue. Yeah, it's because it.
- 23:50Has a BMW powered engine doesn't it?
- 23:51So you could have esterol blue. Oh, there you go.
- 23:54I wouldn't even have to fight. Too hard for it, right?
- 23:57Yeah. Just need the 25 mil, yeah.
- 24:01I like the orange. That orange one.
- 24:03Yeah. One for me.
- 24:03Yeah, yeah. I you know, I'm not picky.
- 24:08Any. I mean when?
- 24:11You one in primer. Right.
- 24:13Well, it's like we've all learned, you know, when you're
- 24:15looking for these specialty cars and they're pre owned, you can't
- 24:18be too picky about the color. So I feel like that applies
- 24:20here. Bad car.
- 24:24Doesn't matter, does it? No, I think, I think you make
- 24:28peace with the color. Nice.
- 24:31That's pretty wild. I thought it was interesting.
- 24:33They had Tom Hartley handle. He had done the Bernie Eccleston
- 24:36collection, and then he handled this as well, and he seems to be
- 24:41the authority. Yeah, if you have a giant
- 24:43collection like that, he's your man.
- 24:46Yeah, it's funny how that works out, right?
- 24:48Like certain sellers sort of they corner a market of a
- 24:51certain car, merit partners, right?
- 24:55Four Point O GT3 Rs is for example.
- 24:57Right there we go. But it's also weird because in
- 25:01Kissimmee in a few weeks time there is a 250 GTO going up at
- 25:06AMICOM auction. Oh, interesting.
- 25:10So Meekum's really stepping up. Yeah.
- 25:14I mean, they obviously had the Jerry car, the Jerry Seinfeld
- 25:17car last year, yeah. Yeah.
- 25:19They're we went to the Meekum auction, or at least I did.
- 25:22Did either of you go to the Meekum auction?
- 25:25OK, I went for the very first time and let me tell you, it was
- 25:31an event I paid to get in, paid 30 bucks to get in.
- 25:34The auctions were done for the day.
- 25:36I tried the whole media thing and that they weren't half paid
- 25:4030 bucks. I have never seen such a
- 25:43diversity in cars at one auction.
- 25:47And I think they had something like 900 cars on auction there.
- 25:50And there was everything from, I mean, you know, a beaten down
- 25:55Monte Carlo s s, right? Michael Lisasa, where are you to
- 25:59a 250 GTO, right? And and it was a white one.
- 26:05So that's that's the car that. Must be the same 1.
- 26:07So they must be. Yeah, they must, must be
- 26:09parading it around before they actually, actually sell the
- 26:12thing. But yeah, that.
- 26:13Makes sense. I I that that's a range, folks,
- 26:15that's. It that is a range and something
- 26:18else. When they say there's something
- 26:19for everyone, they mean it, yeah.
- 26:21Yeah. It's interesting because that
- 26:22car, that 250 GTO has been paraded around for over a year.
- 26:26It was, I think it was at the Retro Mobile last year, Lindsay
- 26:31in Europe. It's possible that show is so
- 26:35enormous. It's possible it was there and I
- 26:37didn't see it. But it's a Seattle car.
- 26:40Interesting. Is that the one that was at
- 26:43Classics on the green? Yes.
- 26:45OK then. I've seen it and it's one of the
- 26:49very few that are actually right hand drive as well.
- 26:52That's that's that's that's right.
- 26:53Also interestingly, big placard in front of it.
- 26:56Cars never been restored. Untouched, but not the original
- 27:00paint, not the original engine, not there.
- 27:04This whole list of things that seem to, I guess, contradict the
- 27:07claim. You know, I'll have to check my
- 27:09my notes. But unrestored.
- 27:11But things have been altered along the way.
- 27:12Yeah, you know, that's a lot of cars, but the 250 GTO just as a
- 27:16thing is really something to behold, whether it's that one
- 27:20or, you know, the one we happen to see in the paddock at Laguna
- 27:23Seca. I mean, it is I when you see one
- 27:25in the flesh, yeah, the the prices kind of make sense.
- 27:28I mean, they're, they're just, there's something to behold
- 27:30there. There are.
- 27:31They're just fantastic. Just fantastic.
- 27:34They just have that right shape. They're amazing.
- 27:37Well, there's some cars that just sort of stop you in your
- 27:39tracks and that is one of them. That is one of them, yeah.
- 27:42Yeah. But there are nicer ones than
- 27:44that white one at Meet Them. I'm just telling you.
- 27:46Yeah, so. You're going to hold out for a
- 27:48nicer one, right? Is that what we're hearing?
- 27:51Yeah, that in the F1. I'm going to give everybody else
- 27:55a crack at this one, and I'll wait.
- 27:59Do the right thing. Yeah.
- 28:01Always do the right thing. Great movie.
- 28:03Very good. I thought I would lay down a bit
- 28:06of a challenge for you guys this week and it's inspired slightly
- 28:10by RM again. I think we should be sponsored
- 28:13by RM are selling a Ayrton Senna Rd. car, it's a McLaren car and
- 28:21a Mercedes 190 with the Cosworth engine.
- 28:25Yeah, those are neat cars. But the interesting story behind
- 28:28it is that this car in particular so early on and said
- 28:32it wasn't a known quantity, wasn't a known driver.
- 28:36And there was a race in Germany where Mercedes put everyone in
- 28:39the same model of car, A190 Mercedes race car.
- 28:44And you had people like Nikki Lauder and, you know, other
- 28:47famous drivers, Alan Prost. And this young guy at center
- 28:51turned up and he won the race. So he beat all these peers in
- 28:56cars that were all, in theory, identical, but he wasn't a name
- 29:00at the time. And and he bought this car and
- 29:02he picked it up from the factory.
- 29:04So with that in mind, I thought, well, why don't we match each
- 29:09other to cars either real or fake, but you want the car and
- 29:13someone famous who's owned the car.
- 29:15Right, Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's the, what's the estimate
- 29:18of the car, by the way? It was.
- 29:19It was quite high. I think it's like 350.
- 29:22Is that what it is? OK, OK.
- 29:25As in 350,000, yeah. Yeah, yeah, so boy.
- 29:28Compared to the F1, that feels like a real bargain, yeah.
- 29:31Talk about Providence. So.
- 29:32So yeah. Yeah.
- 29:34Especially with that Providence, that's pretty remarkable.
- 29:37I mean, there can't be many Rd. cars that Senna had that you
- 29:39know, would go up sale. So, you know, maybe that's a
- 29:43bargain. But what I thought I might get
- 29:46you guys to do is suggest cars for each other.
- 29:49What is the car and who was the famous owner?
- 29:53So I don't know if you guys have been thinking about this.
- 29:55I have a. Little bit I didn't know it
- 29:57could be fake though. I thought it had to be real.
- 29:58So, OK, I'm operating in reality.
- 30:01Real ones, but I'm giving you a get out of jail card.
- 30:05Or you can just go like, just kidding, yeah.
- 30:08So, so Lindsay, what are you going to buy for Ryan?
- 30:11OK, so for Ryan I have picked up the 917 Steve McQueen Seinfeld
- 30:17car. Oh wow, you you think way too
- 30:20highly. Wow, happy new birthday.
- 30:23That would be amazing. Right there from Lindsay on
- 30:26Ryan. Wow.
- 30:28Ryan might want to reach options in a minute, I don't feel.
- 30:31Really bad about what I picked up for you.
- 30:34That would be incredible. Yeah, that's.
- 30:37Let's make it happen, Lindsay. Yeah, right.
- 30:40Hey. That's fine.
- 30:43So what did you go for Me, Lindsay?
- 30:45So for you. Better be than a better be
- 30:47better than a 917. Yeah.
- 30:50So yours comes with a bit of a fantasy life that I've created
- 30:54for you. And this is where you now have a
- 30:56second home in England and you keep a car there.
- 30:59Oh, very good. So what I went for was a 1964
- 31:04Alfa Romeo Julia Spider that was owned by Steve Coogan.
- 31:08Very good. So he's the act to come.
- 31:09Comedian, right? Right.
- 31:11And he was in Tropic Thunder, not at the museum he was.
- 31:15Yeah. Minions.
- 31:16He's a comedian from the UK, so that just that felt very
- 31:22fitting, especially for this, you know, international life
- 31:26that you lead. Love it.
- 31:27So I get the house and the car right?
- 31:29Right. I've created like a whole
- 31:31second, like you're just you. You split your time now.
- 31:35Yeah, very good. I like that.
- 31:36I like that, Ryan. You are welcome.
- 31:39You do have, you do own a house in England, right?
- 31:42You have a second home, it's just that your parents live
- 31:43there. Right.
- 31:44And the inheritance. Probably put a car.
- 31:46Right. And as they are still with us.
- 31:51Details. It's a a really early 90s
- 31:53Mondeo. Doesn't really cut it.
- 31:58So close. Yeah.
- 32:00Anyway, Ryan, can you top that? Yeah.
- 32:04Can I top that? So, So Dan, I, I, so I was very
- 32:08impressed last year at the Quail when they had the Queensland
- 32:11Rover collection because the queen, as you know, has a
- 32:15certain shade. You talk about paint to sample,
- 32:17you talk about special wishes. I mean, queen can get away with
- 32:20anything and she has this very special color.
- 32:23What would you call it? Sort of a it's.
- 32:25Like a claret burgundy. Yeah, it's burgundy, but it's
- 32:30not much darker, right? Or that much like it's special.
- 32:33It seems special and and she's got some great stuff, right?
- 32:36She has some incredible, I mean, those were those were my
- 32:40favorite class at Pebble last year.
- 32:42I agree, I spent more time there, took more pictures.
- 32:45Well, I would love to give Dan, you know, his choice of any of
- 32:48the QLD Rovers. I just think it seems
- 32:50appropriate. You got to leave that little,
- 32:52the little Crest. What do they call that little
- 32:53Crest by order of the? Coat of arms, yeah.
- 32:56Coat of arms or whatever you know, like you see when you walk
- 32:59into. Yeah, the royal seal of
- 33:01approval. That's right.
- 33:02So like when you walk into your, your, your, you know, your
- 33:05favorite tobaccoist or, or your right, whatever they've got or.
- 33:08Tiptree Jam, which you guys would call you, don't you call.
- 33:12You call it jello, don't you, Jam.
- 33:14You spread it on bread. Yeah.
- 33:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, Jelly. With chunks.
- 33:19Yeah, there we go. Tiptree Jelly would be an
- 33:22equivalent, but that's got the seal of approval.
- 33:24I think Hendrick Jin has the approval as well.
- 33:27Who is their underwear provider? Yeah, I think it's up for
- 33:32negotiations right now. Anyway, I just, I love those
- 33:36cars. You're our resident Brit.
- 33:38It seemed to work. Now I I guess I'll, I'll then,
- 33:41you know, tilt the question to you, Dan, of those cars, which
- 33:44one would appeal? Would it be an older car,
- 33:46something newer? Would it be 1 of the sort of the
- 33:49popemobile type? You know, right units or what
- 33:53what what strikes your fancy? You were there.
- 33:56Well, it was interesting because during the Second World War, I
- 33:59believe she would umm, she took on duties driving a land driver
- 34:04in likes with nursing wing or something, right.
- 34:06Good. Yeah, but I think I would
- 34:08probably want the newest Range Rover that she had.
- 34:11Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's fair.
- 34:13Well, and what an amazing 2 car solution you have that and then
- 34:17this Alfa Romeo from Steve Coogan and you're good to go.
- 34:20Yeah, what a win. What a.
- 34:21Win all your bases comes. Right, that's right.
- 34:24So. Lindsay, you're now curious of
- 34:25what Ryan's gone to you. So we all know Lindsay is a
- 34:29Shelby fan. Right.
- 34:31True. And we also know that you're a
- 34:32truck gal. Yeah.
- 34:34So you know what fits both of those.
- 34:37And of course, you've got your your Shelby, Dodge, Dakota.
- 34:41At least that's what I was going to choose for you.
- 34:44And then I found out that it really wasn't very fast.
- 34:47It had AV 8, but it was 172 horsepower.
- 34:51I think 175 horsepower had a zero to 6.
- 34:54For a heavy car. No, no, no, zero to 60 time of 9
- 34:581/2 seconds and a quarter mile of 15.6.
- 35:01So that that does not work for you, so you know you got.
- 35:04You have time to make an appointment to get on the
- 35:06freeway there. Exactly.
- 35:07Well, I thought if it was the convertible version, do you
- 35:09remember the Dakota convertible, the Dodge Dakota?
- 35:12It was a drop top I had so there was a like.
- 35:16That sounds one. Older kid, an older kid, my
- 35:19neighborhood had one and he was the coolest and I I don't think
- 35:23they made that many of them though.
- 35:25I was gonna say don't worry, Lindsey, I've got a good car for
- 35:27you. He.
- 35:28Was he was the coolest guy in Indianapolis in 1990?
- 35:32OK, let's let's let's say that, but so I have a better car for
- 35:35you. You know, I I'm involved with
- 35:36the Colorado Grand and I put car descriptions together and I was
- 35:41surprised and also thought was very cool to see a car that that
- 35:46that Jim Hall and Carol Shelby owned.
- 35:48It was delivered to their dealership, I think in Texas.
- 35:51It's a 57 Maserati 250 SA very special car.
- 35:55And I think that's more a set of wheels that benefits a lady like
- 35:59yourself, Lindsay. So I could get on board.
- 36:01With that also a little quicker than 16 seconds the quarter
- 36:04mile. We have witnessed Ryan getting
- 36:07out of jail so. I'd like to immediately update
- 36:13my answer. Yeah.
- 36:16Unless you're thinking on his feet, which he could.
- 36:18Butterflies with honey, right? Not not vinegar, right As as
- 36:22they say. Otherwise, I think Lindsay was
- 36:24driving a Dodge to coat right? Like, I mean, there's Shelby
- 36:27anything I want to say anything with Shelby on the side was
- 36:29cool. But then that was also the era
- 36:31of the Shelby, like the the Duster or whatever, right?
- 36:34The Plymouth, the little 4 door, you know that those were not
- 36:38peak years for Shelby, so. He was, he was playing a little
- 36:41fast and loose with the licensing there.
- 36:44What was the? I've always wanted to drive
- 36:46that. Is it a GLH?
- 36:49Yeah. The girl's like, hell yeah,
- 36:51that, that that does have an appeal to me.
- 36:53Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:54Lindsay Gilbert. Good one.
- 36:55I have not, not yet. Are those accepted into the
- 36:58Shelby community? Because I I feel like that those
- 37:01are kind of cool. I mean, I'm sure they, I think
- 37:05that's, you know, there's something for everybody and
- 37:07there's, there's somebody for every car.
- 37:09That's what we love about the car world.
- 37:11Yeah, who made them? Dodge was it?
- 37:15Yeah, it was a dodge. It was based on Omni, I think
- 37:17right, which was kind of this 4 door and I I don't think it was
- 37:21maybe a Mitsubishi, but I could be wrong, but it was that kind
- 37:23of it was an import fighter, right?
- 37:25And I think that it was a Plymouth horizon slash Dodge
- 37:28Omni. And they again talk about
- 37:29Indianapolis. They were everywhere, right?
- 37:31That was kind of the that was the IT was a very popular
- 37:34vehicle financed it, you know, 19 percent or something, I'm
- 37:37sure. But but you know, the the
- 37:40standard car was really nothing to write home about.
- 37:42But there was the Shelby and it was the goes like hell.
- 37:44And I think it had a turbo 4 cylinder that actually put out
- 37:48some serious power. I think that that car was in the
- 37:50fives to 60 and this was like 1989.
- 37:54Where's our fact checker, Dan? Yeah, that we've given our.
- 37:58Research assistant, Yeah. I think that was like a
- 38:01ridiculously fast car for the time and.
- 38:04Yeah, I think you're right. I don't know.
- 38:06I don't know that much about that era, but I remember hearing
- 38:10that those like as maligned as they often are, like actually
- 38:15were relatively quick, like, you know, all things considered.
- 38:19Through a turbo and anything. I think it was a turbo
- 38:21Mitsubishi engine is what that was.
- 38:22I think it may have been the same motor that was in other
- 38:24cars. Maybe the God, I don't know.
- 38:27There was a turbo lebaron at the time.
- 38:29There was the was the sports car that conquest.
- 38:33Maybe it was in the conquest in the Mitsubishi Starion, but I I
- 38:37could be wrong. What what?
- 38:38What does our intern come up with then?
- 38:40Well, I I've given them the night off, but why don't our
- 38:43viewers let us know? Why don't our let our viewers
- 38:46let us know and also if anyone's got one of those cars, like let
- 38:50us know because it's one I want to drive one I.
- 38:52Think we need to drive one. I mean listen, anytime we can
- 38:54work in a starian into an episode like.
- 38:57We're that's a win. Money ahead?
- 38:59That's a win. So just to recap, so Ryan, the
- 39:03two cars you went for were one of the Queen's Land Rovers.
- 39:07You take your pick. Yep, and a. 57. 57.
- 39:13Maserati 250 S. Owned by.
- 39:17Carol Shelby and Jim Hall. Cool.
- 39:19And then provenance, yeah. I'm driving cheaper than a
- 39:22McLaren F. One.
- 39:24Yeah, that's true. Well, probably only just right
- 39:27based on provenance and everything else Lindsay's
- 39:30currently. Sorry, Ryan's currently got the
- 39:34917 Porsche. Yep.
- 39:39And he's waiting to hear from me.
- 39:40But I'll start with you, Lindsay.
- 39:41So the car I was thinking of and I was trying not to stereotype,
- 39:47but. Too late.
- 39:48No, no, I didn't go Carroll Shelby.
- 39:50I didn't go forward. I didn't go Cobra.
- 39:53I thought what would be a cool car for Lindsay to drive around
- 39:55in and maybe more in the California lifestyle than the
- 39:59Washington, but that Janis Joplin Porsche was.
- 40:04It a speedster, was it? 356 yeah, I think she had some
- 40:10random people do the paint job on it.
- 40:12Yeah, it looks like there's some random people that did that
- 40:15picture. Yeah, but it's now an iconic
- 40:18Porsche, so. It is, yeah.
- 40:20I could just be cruising on PCH with the wind in my hair.
- 40:23Exactly driving. Driving the Artmobile.
- 40:26What's the story with that? Because she sung out very famous
- 40:28the song about being a Mercedes, wanting Mercedes, right?
- 40:31Her friends all Dr. Porsches. Right, right.
- 40:34She needs to come in. She finally joined the club.
- 40:37It happens to all of us. Happens to the best of us.
- 40:42There we go, and. Before you know it, it's a all
- 40:45Porsche podcast. Here we are.
- 40:47Just need to get that sponsorship in place, don't we?
- 40:49That's right. And and we, we mentioned this to
- 40:52the 4th member of the group, Michael and he doesn't own a
- 40:56Porsche, but his dog is called Porsche.
- 40:58Was that right? That's right.
- 41:00So that. Counts.
- 41:03We will accept that as an answer.
- 41:04We all own Porsches. So anyway, Ron, I was looking
- 41:07and thinking about for you and I started with the car and then
- 41:13looked to see who the famous owners were.
- 41:15And the first famous owner of one of these cars was Justin
- 41:18Bieber, But I just thought I'd love it up a little bit.
- 41:23So the second owner I found of one of these cars was Daniel
- 41:27Craig. So James Bond and he owned a or
- 41:32maybe still owns, but he owned a classic Defender.
- 41:35So I thought, yeah, that's always one that owned by Daniel
- 41:39Craig is pretty cool. And I'm going to change your car
- 41:42Dan to ADB 5. Nice, nice.
- 41:47The revolving number plates. That's right.
- 41:50That's right. Yeah, so with.
- 41:53Some pretty unique collections. Yeah, I think Ryan gets to sell
- 41:58his and retire, but. What are we really driving
- 42:04right? At the end of the day, we all
- 42:05have a Porsche. Yeah, that's true.
- 42:08Yep. Very true.
- 42:10Something and something to those Porsches.
- 42:12Well. We all have the same engine as
- 42:14well, don't we? I know, I know.
- 42:15Yeah. It's a bit crazy and my mind's
- 42:18detuned compared to both of yours, but.
- 42:21Well, you've got more probably. A little.
- 42:23You've got 2/10 of a litre more than Lindsay.
- 42:27I thought Lindsay's was the four litre as well, no?
- 42:303.8. You.
- 42:32You've got the 16, Lindsay. Yeah.
- 42:36A fine car, many would argue a better car than the 718 and.
- 42:39Better noise I think is the. Yeah, that's what I hear.
- 42:42I. Mean it sounds amazing, but my
- 42:44example is also straight pipes so.
- 42:46Oh, there we go. That's right.
- 42:49Yeah. If you if you, if you're new to
- 42:51the show, if you're new to the show.
- 42:55Yeah. Lindsay and and Tori brought
- 42:57that car to my house on the way back from buying it, and it was
- 42:59at Kansas City and you drove that thing buckets and all,
- 43:03right to Seattle. We did.
- 43:06Yeah. 2000, just under 2000 miles.
- 43:10Yeah, that was that was our first road trip together.
- 43:14And I think since then we've done four more Rd. trips.
- 43:17Which is awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:19If you made that trip, you'll be together forever.
- 43:22But that thing sounded epic. But I think the whole the whole
- 43:25block, the whole neighborhood, that's amazing.
- 43:30Amazing. Yeah, that's.
- 43:33Well, and I I can now say that the carbon buckets are the road
- 43:37trip seats because they were so comfortable and I actually took
- 43:41a nap in them at one point. So I'm here to disprove all the
- 43:45carbon bucket naysayers. Buckets and straight pipes and
- 43:48you're able to sleep. Right.
- 43:50Yeah. You, yeah.
- 43:52You know you're in the right place.
- 43:54Is that the title for the show? Buckets and straight pipes and
- 43:57you're still able to sleep there.
- 43:59You. Go could be, or it could be
- 44:01Chinese tourists. There were so many jokes I
- 44:06wanted to make there, just held them in.
- 44:09Come on, we are a politically correct show if nothing else.
- 44:12Your restraint is noted and applauded.
- 44:15Plus, China's a big market for Porsche.
- 44:18Very true and roof pants. I also was looking on the
- 44:23Internet because I was a little bit bored this week and found
- 44:26five cars that you may not know have Corvette engines.
- 44:32Wow. I wondered if you guys could
- 44:33name any of them. So this could be from different
- 44:36generations. It's not necessarily current
- 44:38Corvette engines. I think this group will get one.
- 44:45Well, I've got 1 and that's the Impala S S built on the 90 and
- 44:50on Caprice Classic, right. Yeah, I I do believe that that
- 44:55was was it the L98? What were the LT1?
- 44:58What was what was that engine? But I believe it had one and it
- 45:01was D2. Was that the one that they did
- 45:03in partnership with Holden, the S S?
- 45:06No, that was later. I'm talking about like the
- 45:081990490596 era. I remember I mentioned this
- 45:14before in the show. I was living in Chicago at the
- 45:16time and there was a taxi, there was a Yellow Cab that was an
- 45:18Impala s s, which I thought was just the coolest thing ever.
- 45:22But that I do believe is 1 is is that one?
- 45:24Does that check off 1 box it? Wasn't on the list, but I am now
- 45:27going to check with the research department who decided to come
- 45:29back to work this. Is the one the only one that I
- 45:33was certain about isn't on the list.
- 45:34All right. It's, but I think Lindsay, to
- 45:37your point, I think there was then one.
- 45:39Malibu. It was just the s s they just
- 45:42called it. Yeah, it's just the s s, right?
- 45:45So the impact of speed, it had the LT15 point 7V8.
- 45:52Right. So that was the that was the 90,
- 45:54the mid 90s. OK, Thank God.
- 45:57Yeah. What else?
- 46:00Well done, Ryan. What about the what about the
- 46:03Holden base car? The like the the 2000 and the
- 46:082012, 2015, I don't know it's. A Holden?
- 46:14Would it be a Corvette? Based.
- 46:15Well, they took a car that yeah, they didn't sell it in any other
- 46:19form in the States. It was an Australian car.
- 46:21I think it was the same thing as the Pontiac G8.
- 46:23Maybe there's Pontiac G8 in there.
- 46:27And then of course there was the GTO, the Pontiac GTA, the 2 door
- 46:30fewers before that, but that's kind of where several engines.
- 46:36Cars used culvert engines. Yeah, so the Commodore FS and
- 46:42the menorah. That was that was the yes, that
- 46:44was yes. That was the that was the base
- 46:46for the I think this, this is where we need Michael Isasa.
- 46:49This is his bread and butter. This is his world.
- 46:51He's owned typhoons, cyclones. He picked me up at car week in a
- 46:56it was a Cadillac, was an STS. Do you remember those with the
- 47:02North Star? It's the only North Star, I
- 47:03think. Oh my.
- 47:04Gosh. Yeah, managing the speeding
- 47:07ticket on the way to car week in it.
- 47:08Yeah, so. Did he?
- 47:11Yeah, 5 over. Interesting.
- 47:14Good. Talk to your buddies at the CHP.
- 47:16They were out in sports, they were out in 4, so I had friends
- 47:19that got done on the way back to LA as well.
- 47:22I think we need to talk to Slash Gear because I think we found
- 47:25three or four cars that aren't on their list.
- 47:27So it should be maybe 10 cars you didn't know that had
- 47:30Corvette engines. Should we guess a couple more at
- 47:32least? There's one I don't think you'll
- 47:35ever get, but I think Lindsay probably got a couple or at
- 47:38least one that she may. Are they all cars?
- 47:42One is an SUV, so that might. Help.
- 47:45OK, OK, OK. Is it one of the Escalades?
- 47:51It is. It's.
- 47:52Oh, well done the newer one, right, yes, yes, OK, the V spec
- 47:59right on. And also the Cadillac, the is
- 48:04this ATSV or the CTSV or something along those lines you.
- 48:08Mean the black Wing. The Black Wing, yeah, is the
- 48:11current, yeah. Yeah, CTS.
- 48:13That was the older. I'm now checking the facts.
- 48:21Get that assistant back to their desk.
- 48:23Come on. Right, yes, so the CT5V black.
- 48:27Where you go? Okay.
- 48:28Okay, I'm gonna like, just go through this.
- 48:31Yeah, please do, because a great radio, Yeah.
- 48:34Yeah, I'm just gonna. Yeah, our.
- 48:37Way through, yeah. When do you say, well, Oh yeah,
- 48:39yeah. That was what we knew that.
- 48:41So here are the ones that firstly the first one that I
- 48:43don't think you guys would have got, which is the Buick
- 48:46Roadmaster Estate. Yeah, so our friends the
- 48:50Deistys, John, Todd and Lewis spotted one at Car Week and they
- 48:56they they talked about it on their podcast on 1st Dibs.
- 48:59Took way too many pictures of the thing.
- 49:01Had wood on the sides, had safari windows at the top.
- 49:05That thing was epic. Yeah, that thing would lay down
- 49:07elevens. That thing was amazing.
- 49:08Yeah. Those were cool.
- 49:09Was it the the. Last version of the Roadmaster.
- 49:15Mid. Mid 90s.
- 49:17So this was yeah, 94 to 96. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:21So you're originally hiding a Corvette under that statement.
- 49:25That's. Cool, that's cool.
- 49:27Yeah. So the next one is a pickup
- 49:30truck that turns into a convertible and it's the
- 49:33Chevrolet SSR. I didn't know that had a
- 49:36Corvette derived engine though. Yeah, no kidding.
- 49:39Yeah, 5.3 lead to V8. Is that like a souped up version
- 49:43of the avalanche? Because I.
- 49:45Think no, this was the the rounded one that the the retro
- 49:48the Jumer with the round headlights look like a 50s.
- 49:50Truck. Yes, yeah, I guess I didn't
- 49:52realize that those theater. Yep.
- 49:54Had so much engine. OK, Yeah.
- 49:56We've talked about the Cadillac. Yeah, the next one is the Saab
- 50:0197X Arrow. So that is the Blazer the
- 50:06Trailblazer derived, but I again, I didn't, I, I knew that
- 50:09that was extra. I didn't know that was Corvette
- 50:12based. And I think they made all of 22
- 50:14of those, Dan, if I'm not mistaken, that was an
- 50:16exceptionally rare. Car had the C6 engine in it I
- 50:21had. No idea, I knew somebody that
- 50:23had one but I didn't realize they had a Corvette engine.
- 50:25And that car was sub sub 6 seconds to 60.
- 50:29No kidding. And it's the only Swedish car to
- 50:33ever have a Corvette engine. I'm.
- 50:36Not going to argue that. Like that track?
- 50:40I promise I am fun at parties. Well, this is this is
- 50:43fascinating. By the way, I got had a Bush die
- 50:47in the yard and I had to replace it today.
- 50:49And I had our friend, friend of the show, Matthew Fitzpatrick,
- 50:53architect here in the neighborhood, lover of, of, of
- 50:55the, the cars of the north. I think as we refer to him in
- 50:58the past. He got a 13,000 mile 2003 Volvo
- 51:02cross country. It was owned by a family member
- 51:05out on the East Coast. Paid 2 grand.
- 51:07You got the car for free. Paid 2 grand to have it shipped
- 51:09here to Colorado. He spent $1400 on timing belts
- 51:12and an oil change. The thing is amazing.
- 51:16It was like peak Volvo I We went to the hardware store in the
- 51:20garden center to pick up the the stuff I needed for this thing
- 51:23and I felt bad putting this lilac Bush in the back because
- 51:27the car was so nice, right? Really.
- 51:30You forget what a great era of car those Volvos were.
- 51:35You know, I had a 2000 or 2001 S 40, but this was like this was
- 51:38this was the big, the big Volvo and it was fantastic.
- 51:42The ride was amazing. I'm sure it's not been touched
- 51:44in all these years. This car's 22 years old, right
- 51:47in the most amazing seats I've sat in in a long time.
- 51:51I want that era of Volvo back. It was just it was it was great.
- 51:57It was fantastic. And he's got 3400.
- 51:59Sounds like Oh, you're the first on the list, are you?
- 52:01I'm. Telling you that's the thing I I
- 52:03used to I want a little pickup truck or something No, give me
- 52:05an old Volvo wagon with 13,000. That's the you found.
- 52:10Your Holy Grail. What a thing.
- 52:12I think it was Brock Yates in an old car and driver referred to
- 52:15the car right before that, the V7, and he called it very
- 52:18famously a God damn paradigm of automotive design.
- 52:22And I get it. That thing was just, it was, it
- 52:26was amazing. I feel like we've slid downhill
- 52:28since that car. So I kind of feel like you need
- 52:31to do an auto blog article on that car.
- 52:33I think that's a great a great idea.
- 52:36That's a great Yeah, do it a Christmas.
- 52:37Put a Christmas tree on the roof for the photos.
- 52:40That's. Right.
- 52:40And and you've got a, you know, the perfect Christmas card.
- 52:44No Bluetooth if. You like, you could create
- 52:46Christmas cards from it and send them.
- 52:48That's really France it'd. Be it'd be amazing.
- 52:50It'd be amazing. Matthew's looking for the third
- 52:53row seat. It didn't come with the 3rd row
- 52:55seat. So apparently they're they're
- 52:57hot on the secondary. Market.
- 52:58This is the next. One Wow.
- 53:00Anyway, so the final car on the list, which again never came to
- 53:05the UK, is a Pontiac Solstice mallet.
- 53:09Does that ring any bells with anyone?
- 53:11It does not. That was an aftermarket thing,
- 53:13so it was a company called Mallet.
- 53:14I remember again Car and Driver reading about this where they
- 53:16basically put the engine into the car.
- 53:18It was not produced by by Chevy or GM or whatever.
- 53:21It's not a production. I don't believe.
- 53:23Yeah, you remember that, right? Yeah, it says aftermarket
- 53:27conversion. Yes, right.
- 53:29Yes, there was that there was the Saturn was it the I not the
- 53:33ion? It was the Saturn sky, I
- 53:35believe, and they made one called the red line, which is a
- 53:37turbo, but it was not the Corvette engine.
- 53:39But Dan that was based, I think, on a Lotus car.
- 53:45Very strangely. Wasn't the Elise, you know, the
- 53:48Exige or anything like that. It was the Lotus that they also,
- 53:51I think turned into a Vauxhall in in in Europe, which was a hot
- 53:56we. We had the yeah, we had the
- 53:58Vauxhall X something 2/20 it was.
- 54:04XI think that was that I. Think so.
- 54:05That was the same and I think it was Lotus engineered.
- 54:07I don't think there was a. Lotus OK, OK, maybe that's what
- 54:10it was. Yeah.
- 54:11It was an odd thing about super quick in turbo form and and a
- 54:16neat, neat thing. So but but now that was one of
- 54:19those thousand tuner companies you'd read about back in the
- 54:21day, right? There's a Lincolnfelter and you
- 54:23know, all these companies, I think you know, a few of them
- 54:25are, are still around. Callaway.
- 54:27Corvette. Do you remember Callaway?
- 54:29Callaway, yes. Those were so cool.
- 54:31The hammer, I think it was, I think they Co opted the the AMG
- 54:34name. But you know, that was it was a
- 54:36wild era of like, you know, hugely powerful cars that would
- 54:40do zero to 60 in like 6 seconds. But they were super, super cool
- 54:44at the time, you know? I mean, it doesn't measure up to
- 54:47a Shelby Dodge Dakota, but you know.
- 54:50It's all relative. But then I yeah, then I give you
- 54:54a Maserati, so we're good. You did.
- 54:57I'll take both. So what have we got coming up,
- 55:00folks? Is there much?
- 55:01I mean, Ryan, I think you're going to be quite busy in this
- 55:03in the near future on you. Yeah, can't wait.
- 55:06I think the one week, the one week each year that that, that
- 55:09even that's even a better time than car week.
- 55:12And that's the Colorado Grand. So we take off for that in about
- 55:15a week and a half. Can't wait.
- 55:16You know, Michael and I were talking earlier, Mercedes-Benz
- 55:19brings in a fleet of AMG's for us who are involved to drive for
- 55:22the week and to hand off to people whose cars might
- 55:25breakdown and that kind of thing.
- 55:26And we were we were sort of waiting the the AMG models that
- 55:29we know are going to be delivered like sort of fighting
- 55:32over the good AM GS. So it's going.
- 55:35To be a great. Great week it's.
- 55:39Going to be what is the most popular then what's the top AMG
- 55:41you want to? Drive there's always AGT or two,
- 55:44right? AMG GT in SL, right?
- 55:47I don't think there's one this year, but last year there was
- 55:50was a was AG50G63 right in this amazing green color that was
- 55:56awesome with this sort of Brabus style like dish wheels, which
- 55:59was cool. I think the one we don't want, I
- 56:01think the one that'll probably, well, I gladly have it, But I
- 56:04think the car that's going to stay on the transporter most of
- 56:06the week is the CLA based. I think the CLA 45, that will
- 56:11probably be the one that people don't fight over, but it's going
- 56:15to be a great week. It's going to be fantastic.
- 56:17The people are amazing, the cars are amazing.
- 56:19I'll definitely have some dispatches from the field after
- 56:23the fact. And I just, I just can't wait.
- 56:25It's just such a such a wonderful event and that's what
- 56:28I'll be up to. But we've got one more show
- 56:30before that. Can we tease who's going to be
- 56:33on next week's show? Let's do it.
- 56:35So if you're all listing probably are familiar with Neelu
- 56:39cars, Neelu is this amazing hypercar that's that's been
- 56:43developed. I'm going to get his last name
- 56:46wrong, but Sasha is his first name.
- 56:48We've become friendly with him at some of the events and stuff.
- 56:50And he designed, I think, I think he was the designer, one
- 56:53of the designers, but behind the Bugatti Chiron and was involved
- 56:57with Lamborghini for a long time and stuff.
- 56:59And this is his personal, this is his passion project and very,
- 57:03very excited to speak with him next week.
- 57:05So make sure you you tune in. So what about you guys?
- 57:07Road trips, Lindsay, any road trips coming up?
- 57:10No, we just finished Reno to Seattle, so I think we're
- 57:14staying put. Maybe just do a a little cruise
- 57:18where we start and end in the same place.
- 57:21An A to a if you will. Huh.
- 57:22Yeah, exactly. Something new and different.
- 57:25Yeah, just for the sake of driving.
- 57:26Nice. Yeah, what about you, Dan?
- 57:30I need to get more miles on the Bugster.
- 57:32So and we're coming up to a bank holiday.
- 57:35I guess you guys would just call it a holiday weekend.
- 57:37We call it a bank holiday weekend, but so I got to work
- 57:40Sunday, but Monday maybe I'll go up to Newcomb's ranch and then.
- 57:44Nice, nice. We've got to coin a name for
- 57:47this, this thousand mile break in period for Porsches, right,
- 57:50Because it's I want to call it like the struggles or the
- 57:53troubles or something because you just all you want to do is
- 57:55just like just go and you can't. The neutered zone.
- 57:59Yeah, that's also a good show. Yeah, that'll get some.
- 58:03I'm also not good, right, because I team to buy these cars
- 58:06that need these break in periods and then I get it through the
- 58:08break in periods and I sell the car.
- 58:10At least, don't I? Need to make sure I don't do
- 58:12that this time. Dan, I and Lindsay, you can
- 58:15attest. I mean, you know the car behind
- 58:16me. I mean, this is Carl Heffer
- 58:17ever. I think you you're going to fall
- 58:19in love with this thing. It is just such an inherently
- 58:22good and balanced car, exactly as fast as you want it to be and
- 58:26no more, no less. I think you're going to fall in
- 58:29love with it. I think it's going to be the
- 58:30best car you've ever owned and I think you'll have it forever.
- 58:33So. Nice.
- 58:34Yeah, they're definitely, they're like the best of best of
- 58:37all the worlds in so many ways. So yeah, I'm excited for you to
- 58:41have more like real adventures without having to think about
- 58:44like the break in period. Yeah, or San Bernardino.
- 58:48I don't think it's an accident that the three of us have
- 58:50basically ended all up with the same car, right?
- 58:53No, it's so funny, right? It's crazy, isn't it?
- 58:55Isn't it crazy? Yeah, I think that says even
- 58:57more about the car, like you said, Ryan, that it wasn't
- 59:00planned and that's just what we've all gravitated to.
- 59:03Yeah. I think we also need to check in
- 59:05on our good friend John Dicey at some point because he sent me
- 59:09some pictures midweek and it was of a trade in that he'd received
- 59:14and with a Should I do it? Now, is this the one that they
- 59:18talked about on their show where I think Justin had been pushing
- 59:23him and a lot of people had been pushing him and he said on the
- 59:26show, I'm convinced. And I'm like, wait, So what does
- 59:31this mean? Did the back seats have two like
- 59:34wooden tables that fold down? Yeah, so they, he said they had
- 59:38figured out. So Lauren's going to ride in the
- 59:40back, she's going to take the luxury seat, and they're
- 59:44promoting demoting Lewis to the front seat, which doesn't have
- 59:47the luxury, you know, accoutrement.
- 59:49Yeah. So this was a Jaguar.
- 59:52Yeah. So yeah, it's I yeah, I guess
- 59:58it's going through the shop to see what it needs doing, but it
- 1:00:01sounds like it's this old done deal, so I love it.
- 1:00:04Watch their space in the Deisty Garage.
- 1:00:07Yeah, none of that new Jaguar crap.
- 1:00:09This is a real Jaguar right then, right?
- 1:00:11Right, well, it's electric bullshit.
- 1:00:15We should do a shout out to the winner of our competition from
- 1:00:19last week. So it's by way of a reminder, we
- 1:00:24have this partnership with Sheffield Watches.
- 1:00:27And as part of that, every month we have one or two watches which
- 1:00:30we were able to give away in competition style.
- 1:00:33And for the first one, what we wanted to do was make it the
- 1:00:36first person to respond, the first watch we've ever given
- 1:00:39away, the first person to respond.
- 1:00:42And I did see some feedback from people that oh, it's not fair.
- 1:00:45And it's like, will there be more chances?
- 1:00:47Keep listening, keep playing. But Dave, and he is Radar Dave
- 1:00:54on Instagram, will be receiving a Sheffield watch in the very
- 1:00:59near future. So congratulations to you.
- 1:01:01Thanks for listening. I know you're a fellow Brit as
- 1:01:05well, so not that there's any inside baseball, but it's great
- 1:01:09that us Brits are getting the watches from Sheffield.
- 1:01:13He picked out a good one too. He picked out the rally, which
- 1:01:16is a good one, and that's what you can do.
- 1:01:18You can pick out whichever one that's available that you want.
- 1:01:21So he chose well. He's got excellent taste.
- 1:01:24Can't believe he didn't go for the pink one.
- 1:01:26Dave is also a big fan of the band Madness, which extra points
- 1:01:30there. So, you know, you can tell by
- 1:01:34that alone. He's a good dude.
- 1:01:36Yeah, I mean, more than a big fan, he's friends with one of
- 1:01:39the band members. That's right.
- 1:01:41I think it's, I think it's the guitarist, so.
- 1:01:43Yeah, so if anyone wants very cool, had those tickets, he can
- 1:01:46add you up. Dave's your man.
- 1:01:48He might have to go with him. I do.
- 1:01:52He's going to stand on the side of the stage, right?
- 1:01:54Which wouldn't suck, so. What are your favorite madness
- 1:01:57songs? Do either of you have a favorite
- 1:01:58Madness song? I do not.
- 1:02:02Growing up, our house was just a favorite.
- 1:02:03I thought that it sounded like nothing else in the radio.
- 1:02:06It was kind of a contest between that and I had the tiger for me
- 1:02:09for a couple of years there. So I think history has sort of
- 1:02:13shown that Madness is probably the better of the of the two.
- 1:02:17Also, is it the the night boat to Cairo, which we played on and
- 1:02:22the steering committee on one of our very final shows.
- 1:02:24So that that's got a special place in my heart.
- 1:02:27But you know, ska's always good, right?
- 1:02:30Yeah. And they're the best at it,
- 1:02:31right? They still sound good.
- 1:02:32Still look good still. Yeah.
- 1:02:35Still at it. So.
- 1:02:36Nice. So there we go, some listening
- 1:02:39for the folks. Go listen to some madness.
- 1:02:40Yeah, and. Madness for your madness.
- 1:02:44Yeah, relive your 80s music vibes.
- 1:02:48Yeah. Anything else you folks wanted
- 1:02:50to raise tonight? I think we've got a show.
- 1:02:52We I. Think that it's a show.
- 1:02:53I think we're good. Yeah, just.
- 1:02:55Want to say real quick, thanks for all your support.
- 1:02:57The show's growing each week and that's awesome.
