- 0:10Hello friends, it is Sean here and it is Friday.
- 0:15Well done making it to the end of the week.
- 0:17Well done. It is the 29th of November and
- 0:21it's great to have your company on this significant day.
- 0:25Why is this day so significant Sean?
- 0:27Well, many of you would know that the world changed forever
- 0:3052 years ago today because Atari released Pong.
- 0:37That's right, Pong. You know the little game where
- 0:39you've got the two little paddles that go up and down on
- 0:41each side of the screen and the little ball that bounces between
- 0:44them? You're going to try and bounce
- 0:45it past your opponent's paddle. Yeah.
- 0:48That was the very first computer game ever to be successful,
- 0:53Commercially successful. Did you know that?
- 0:55Pong. Yeah.
- 0:56There you go. 52 years ago today, computer games became a
- 0:59thing. Wow.
- 1:00Hasn't that changed the world? Yep.
- 1:03Today is Pong's 52nd birthday. Happy Birthday Pong, and if you
- 1:07are not into Pong or video games, that doesn't matter
- 1:09because well, today is all about Psalm 142 as well.
- 1:14We get to read this Psalm as we are in the last phase of the 5th
- 1:20book of the Psalms. And today we read a Psalm, a
- 1:23Psalm of David regarding his experience in The Cave.
- 1:27A prayer. This is a cry, a cry from the
- 1:31psalmist as he himself is in hiding, crying out for God's
- 1:37help. And I'm sure we can all relate
- 1:38to that. So let us put down the busyness
- 1:42of the day, whatever it is that's coming your way or has
- 1:47come your way already, we lay that down, we open our hearts,
- 1:51and we come before God as we with the psalmist cry out these
- 1:56words of Psalm 142. I cry out to the Lord.
- 2:10I plead for the Lord's mercy. I pour out my complaints before
- 2:15Him and tell Him all my troubles when I'm overwhelmed.
- 2:21You alone know the way I should turn.
- 2:25Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me.
- 2:30I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a
- 2:34passing thought. No one will help me, no one
- 2:38cares a bit what happens to me. Then I pray to you, O Lord, I
- 2:43say you are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in
- 2:49life. Hear my cry, for I am very low.
- 2:56Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.
- 3:01Bring me out of prison so I can thank you.
- 3:07The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me.
- 3:23Lord, as our lives throw us challenge after challenge, as
- 3:28David does in the Psalm, may we to cry out to you and thank you
- 3:36that as we hear David crying out to you, he doesn't do that and
- 3:40stay in that state of despair, but he does that with that I
- 3:45unclad knowledge and firm belief that you hear him and you
- 3:51respond and you save him. Oh, and Father, we know that You
- 3:57have already saved us through everything you've done for us in
- 4:01Jesus, and that no matter what this world throws at us, You
- 4:06already have us firmly in your grasp and in Your loving
- 4:11embrace. There's nothing that our life
- 4:14can throw at us that this world can break around us that will
- 4:18ever threaten that. Our Lord, shift our our axis so
- 4:24that we understand that everything revolves around you
- 4:28and Your promise to us. And all the hardships that we
- 4:32will face in this life are temporary, but the grace and the
- 4:38blessing that you give us holds us for eternity.
- 4:42Let that shape our identity. Let that shape the way that we
- 4:46approach the world today. Our Father, we lift up our hands
- 4:52and we praise you with our whole heart, our ever loving God
- 4:57always there in our time of Mead.
- 5:00You truly are our remarkable saving God.
- 5:04And we pray all of this in that saving name of Jesus, Amen.
