- 0:38Speaker 5: So at any moment, someone could just walk in here
- 0:40Speaker 5: and cut one of.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Us, right, Whyny You should say that, because I thought
- 0:42Speaker 2: there was a chance. Yesterday, as Bill was walking into
- 0:45Speaker 2: the studio to do some stuff for All Access, came
- 0:48Speaker 2: out kind of stalked, Wow, that's that's good.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Running back room is Stevenson, Ezekiel.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Ellie were just called my first names?
- 1:01Speaker 6: Yeah, David Harris, he said he gave me a set
- 1:05Speaker 6: of irons nice, what kind?
- 1:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:08Speaker 5: He gave you his irons. You haven't even looked at him,
- 1:10Speaker 5: and you're already needling.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I know, did you at least thank him?
- 1:13Speaker 7: What?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Did you just like toss him into the thing without
- 1:16Speaker 1: even looking at SAgs. Yahoo is reporting the Patriots have
- 1:19Speaker 1: cut Chason Hines.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We reported, Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I thought it was good.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Mike with my words. This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:29Speaker 8: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:32Speaker 8: dot com.
- 1:35Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfeltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:40Speaker 1: at Jilletts Stadium, and we.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Have a lot to talk about.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's Deuce, it's Tamorrow, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me
- 1:46Speaker 1: Matt Nabooth. Cutdowns, but boy, there was some machinations on
- 1:51Speaker 1: the Patriots part. I've been here for almost thirty years
- 1:54Speaker 1: and I never remember after cutdowns were announced having one
- 1:58Speaker 1: quarterback on the roster and two running backs. So this
- 2:02Speaker 1: was a new way of doing it. And I want
- 2:03Speaker 1: to get into all of that, like why, maybe you know,
- 2:06Speaker 1: we can talk about our theories. But I thought it
- 2:09Speaker 1: was really interesting. I also want to talk maybe later
- 2:12Speaker 1: in the show Deuce in Paul Peope and the Duce
- 2:16Speaker 1: had the top ten, break top twelve, traighty moments. I
- 2:22Speaker 1: want to talk about that because people really liked it.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But I want to have a different way of doing it.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I want to talk about like just a moment, Like
- 2:31Speaker 1: it doesn't even have to be a game.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They want sure, just moments.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So I have a list that I made started off
- 2:37Speaker 1: and so we'll do a different take on that. We'll
- 2:39Speaker 1: do that later in the show. I like it right
- 2:41Speaker 1: off the top. We got to talk about these times.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Who wants to start?
- 2:43Speaker 5: I know they're all back, so do we have to
- 2:44Speaker 5: talk about.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I know they're back in the practice squad, but it
- 2:48Speaker 1: was a risky way of doing it.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, would you all agree?
- 2:51Speaker 9: Oh?
- 2:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 2: As Bill says, anytime you release a player, you have
- 2:56Speaker 2: to be that's prepared to be without that and apparently
- 2:59Speaker 2: they were to have one quarterback for.
- 3:01Speaker 1: A while, right yeah, So who's got to take on
- 3:04Speaker 1: this anyone?
- 3:05Speaker 9: I definitely.
- 3:06Speaker 7: It's it's interesting because we obviously saw how the final
- 3:09Speaker 7: preseason game went for Bailey Zappy, and we saw him
- 3:13Speaker 7: struggle throughout camp. You know, he had a lot of
- 3:14Speaker 7: highs and lows, a bit of a roller coaster, But
- 3:17Speaker 7: you never suspected that a guy they drafted when they did,
- 3:21Speaker 7: and actually someone posted on Twitter like you know it
- 3:23Speaker 7: was a trade that they were able to get Bailey
- 3:25Speaker 7: Zappy and Martemp who with the trade from who was
- 3:27Speaker 7: at the Cardinals, I don't remember who it was, but
- 3:30Speaker 7: it's like for them to be able to get him,
- 3:33Speaker 7: have him be your backup. He of course had a
- 3:35Speaker 7: rocky situation, but then you decide to wave him like,
- 3:38Speaker 7: I don't think anyone saw that in their heart, especially
- 3:40Speaker 7: because you cut McSorley as well.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah, so you could have very easily lost him. You
- 3:44Speaker 1: could have lost cunning him and literally had one quarterback.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:47Speaker 9: And then I'm looking around, Okay, I'm like, okay, well
- 3:49Speaker 9: what backups are out there?
- 3:50Speaker 2: That think?
- 3:52Speaker 9: All I can think of is Colt McCoy And I'm like,
- 3:54Speaker 9: is that who you are?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Apparently that's all anyone could think of, because I don't know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: probably about the same right right.
- 4:02Speaker 10: And I think that's that's the general point. Like, I
- 4:04Speaker 10: think people are missing the boat on this and making
- 4:07Speaker 10: it about Bailey Zappi because Bailey Zappies are a dime
- 4:10Speaker 10: a dozen. You can find backup quarterbacks. I think this
- 4:13Speaker 10: is the bigger conversation here is what we've been beating
- 4:16Speaker 10: the dead horse on, which is tackle they are carrying
- 4:19Speaker 10: eleven offensive linemen eleven and I went back and looked
- 4:22Speaker 10: for the last decade at their initial rosters. This is
- 4:25Speaker 10: the most that they've carried in the Belichick era. I
- 4:27Speaker 10: think you know the ones in the early two thousands
- 4:30Speaker 10: that get a little bit murky and not everything was
- 4:32Speaker 10: online yet, but have.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It all the way through. And he never kept eleven offense.
- 4:37Speaker 10: Right, so he's kept ten before, but eleven is is
- 4:40Speaker 10: is a high water mark for them, and the average
- 4:44Speaker 10: is around eight or nine. That's typically where they're at.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And it's been eight since the new practice squad the
- 4:49Speaker 2: way it.
- 4:49Speaker 10: Is right, So they are carrying eleven offensive lineman because
- 4:53Speaker 10: they don't have a right tackle. Yeah, and you know
- 4:55Speaker 10: the old saying of if you have two quarterbacks, you
- 4:57Speaker 10: have no quarterbacks. If you have six tackles, you have
- 5:00Speaker 10: no tackles. Like that, that's that's the bottom line. And
- 5:03Speaker 10: so they had to go thin in other spots because
- 5:06Speaker 10: they have to keep their options open at right tackle.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And that means that the two all these.
- 5:13Speaker 9: Guys then that quarterback is crazy.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It's crazy, and all these guys on the practice squad
- 5:17Speaker 1: can gobbled up by another team. Now you have that
- 5:20Speaker 1: team has to put them on their active roster for
- 5:22Speaker 1: a number of weeks three right away, so you know
- 5:26Speaker 1: there is a consequence to that, But still there's a
- 5:29Speaker 1: risk here.
- 5:29Speaker 2: There was a risk. Yes, I don't think it was
- 5:31Speaker 2: as big a risk as it was made out to be.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I agree with Evans's portrayal of the roster because I
- 5:37Speaker 2: think that's why they had to do what they did.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It was roster sort of manipulation. I totally agree with
- 5:43Speaker 2: evans point. But they didn't want to keep eleven offensive linemen,
- 5:46Speaker 2: but the combination of a lack of known quantities and
- 5:49Speaker 2: injuries made them do it.
- 5:51Speaker 1: So this tells me that a before September tenth, there's
- 5:55Speaker 1: going to be a lot more moves.
- 5:57Speaker 5: They got an open roster spot and an open practice
- 5:59Speaker 5: squad right.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Now and then, and be like it's gonna be news
- 6:04Speaker 1: every Sunday, Like who's on the forty five, the forty six?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Now on game day?
- 6:10Speaker 2: Isn't that news all the time?
- 6:11Speaker 11: No?
- 6:11Speaker 1: But like more so now because I think there's gonna
- 6:14Speaker 1: be Saturday. I think there's gonna be all kinds of movement. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I've been down, given who the opponent is.
- 6:22Speaker 6: I mean, do you think that Zappi just gets promoted
- 6:24Speaker 6: to the active roster and the.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Two they don't sign a backup like, I think that
- 6:28Speaker 2: they're still looking. I mean, based on various reporters, Mike
- 6:33Speaker 2: Giardi current current, I think they're looking for a veteran backup.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And to to Evan's point, I think Colt McCoy is
- 6:41Speaker 2: probably a better player than Bailey Zappy, but he's not
- 6:44Speaker 2: better in Week one. And because he doesn't know that,
- 6:46Speaker 2: he doesn't know this.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He might be a better NFL quarterback, but he may
- 6:50Speaker 1: not be a better Patriots quarterback because he has no
- 6:52Speaker 1: knowledge of the system.
- 6:53Speaker 6: Yeah, and to that point, I kind of I just
- 6:56Speaker 6: wonder what was up with Zappi in the Bill O'Brien system,
- 6:58Speaker 6: because I just thought it was funny.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Last year.
- 7:00Speaker 6: One of the common refriends you heard with Zappi was like, well,
- 7:02Speaker 6: he looked more comfortable in than Matt Patricia offense, Like
- 7:04Speaker 6: he looks like, you know, he he's knowing what to do.
- 7:07Speaker 6: I just I wonder how much of the switching system
- 7:09Speaker 6: might have had to do with Zappi's regression, you know,
- 7:12Speaker 6: if he if he had trouble kind of picking things.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think what we saw of Zappi had everything to
- 7:17Speaker 1: do with what was.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Out there with him.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think if I think, if he was out there
- 7:22Speaker 1: with the starting line as it is, I know it's
- 7:26Speaker 1: you know, even now it's not the starting line. But
- 7:28Speaker 1: if he was there with the front line guys that
- 7:30Speaker 1: were healthy, he'd have looked a lot better.
- 7:33Speaker 2: He would have looked better by how much. I think.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I'm not saying mac Joan.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying he'd have been competing with mac Joe,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but he wouldn't have looked as bad as he did.
- 7:42Speaker 6: He would have not gotten cut if he had a
- 7:44Speaker 6: chance to play with what they at the time had us. Oh,
- 7:47Speaker 6: I think he would cut. I think I agree, he
- 7:50Speaker 6: would have get cut.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Regard.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it had a lot to do
- 7:53Speaker 2: with how well or poorly he played as much as
- 7:56Speaker 2: it did the situation with the roster. They had to
- 7:58Speaker 2: do something.
- 7:59Speaker 6: I mean what it kept Harris to the reason the reason, well,
- 8:02Speaker 6: he didn't get any yards.
- 8:03Speaker 12: Like that's and I and I love and I like
- 8:09Speaker 12: Kevin Hart last year, I am sort of from especially
- 8:12Speaker 12: for me, I am abnormally tied to Kevin Harris.
- 8:15Speaker 2: He's done absolutely nothing, but but I like it. I
- 8:18Speaker 2: like him with with with the whole roster situation. I
- 8:23Speaker 2: just feel like they they got themselves in a bind.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And the reason I said that I don't think it
- 8:28Speaker 2: was as big a risk is exactly what you saw,
- 8:32Speaker 2: Like twenty some odd guys got claimed, no quarterbacks, and
- 8:35Speaker 2: I don't think that's a surprise because to claim a guy,
- 8:39Speaker 2: you have to have him on your roster. Now for
- 8:41Speaker 2: three weeks, You're gonna have a guy in your roster
- 8:44Speaker 2: for three weeks that probably can't play for you. Does
- 8:46Speaker 2: that make any sense? So you're gonna you're gonna roster
- 8:49Speaker 2: a guy for three weeks then put him on the
- 8:51Speaker 2: practice squad, So you continue to like to me that
- 8:55Speaker 2: there's not a huge chance of that helpening. We all do.
- 8:58Speaker 1: We all agree that they're not gonna go to go
- 9:01Speaker 1: into the season with eleven linemen on the fifty three.
- 9:06Speaker 10: I think Riley Reef is the only one that could
- 9:08Speaker 10: potentially go to injured reserve.
- 9:10Speaker 5: But he didn't yesterday, So yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 10: Well Taekwon didn't officially yesterday either. No, he didn't, alright,
- 9:14Speaker 10: So maybe they're I don't know why that didn't hit
- 9:16Speaker 10: the wire yet, but it hasn't. I just to me,
- 9:19Speaker 10: it's it's the same thing that We've been talking about
- 9:22Speaker 10: all summer with with the offensive line, and they have
- 9:25Speaker 10: to keep their options open at tackle.
- 9:28Speaker 2: They have to have the depth.
- 9:29Speaker 10: They have to have these new guys and see what
- 9:31Speaker 10: the trade acquisitions are are gonna be for them. And
- 9:35Speaker 10: City So is a developmental rookie. And you have two
- 9:39Speaker 10: veteran guys, and Anderson and Reef who Reef I I
- 9:43Speaker 10: am on the record thinking he's over the hill. Anderson
- 9:45Speaker 10: started twelve games in three seasons. And you have the
- 9:48Speaker 10: two new guys that you got via trade. Normally you
- 9:51Speaker 10: would have a proven left tackle, a proven right tackle,
- 9:54Speaker 10: a swing tackle, and then maybe you have So on
- 9:57Speaker 10: the roster as your developmental guy as the ninth guy
- 10:00Speaker 10: on the offensive line.
- 10:01Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I kind of think that they're gonna use these well,
- 10:04Speaker 1: there's only like ten days left, but these last days
- 10:07Speaker 1: to make a final judgment, I I and then they'll
- 10:10Speaker 1: make another round of cuts.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I think that that could happen. But I also can
- 10:15Speaker 2: understand what Evan's talking about, because I don't know how
- 10:18Speaker 2: you can go into a game against Philadelphia, Michael, when
- 10:24Speaker 2: you call strange Riley, Reef, the two guys they just
- 10:27Speaker 2: picked up, how do you have any idea.
- 10:29Speaker 9: What you're going to get out of those games.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I know that's the thing, right, But so they're all
- 10:34Speaker 2: I think they're all going to be on the roster, I.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Know, But what are you gonna do? Use the game
- 10:37Speaker 1: as a tryout?
- 10:38Speaker 2: No, you have to like you can't go into the
- 10:40Speaker 2: game and then all of a sudden. Okay, so you
- 10:42Speaker 2: know what, we practiced three straight days with strange when
- 10:45Speaker 2: you and Anderson and then all of a sudden's the
- 10:47Speaker 2: middle of the first quarter. These guys they're not ready,
- 10:50Speaker 2: they hope, but I don't have anybody on the bend.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You can't do that.
- 10:54Speaker 10: And also, you know we've talked about it before too
- 10:56Speaker 10: that very seldom in Week one to offensive lineman go
- 10:59Speaker 10: whire to wire, right, So there might be a rotation
- 11:03Speaker 10: anyways on the offensive line just because guys, their endurance
- 11:06Speaker 10: is not up to play seventy snaps in an NFL
- 11:09Speaker 10: game right out of the gates, So they had to
- 11:12Speaker 10: keep the depth on the offensive line. Zappi was collateral
- 11:16Speaker 10: damage to the fact that they never truly aggressively addressed
- 11:20Speaker 10: right tackle in the offseason. That was their worst in
- 11:24Speaker 10: my mind, that was their worst position on the entire
- 11:27Speaker 10: roster last year.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think they started screwing with this offensive line when
- 11:31Speaker 1: they named Joe Touney with the franchise tag.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I think that was the beginning.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Of the end of consisten mismanagement.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I just I mean, to Evan's point, if Reef
- 11:40Speaker 6: and Strange can't go next weekend, who's the third guard? Like,
- 11:43Speaker 6: who is going to rotate in with on when you
- 11:46Speaker 6: who I guess has to go wire to wire and
- 11:48Speaker 6: Antonio Maffi there's no other real guard I mean, Cody,
- 11:51Speaker 6: Cody Russi, Jake Andrews.
- 11:53Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know. I don't know what if.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I'm not so much worried about the guard, and I'm
- 11:57Speaker 2: not sure I would put Russy in that's situation too,
- 12:00Speaker 2: Like I don't know what his health is. With all
- 12:02Speaker 2: the time that he missed a lot of questions, I
- 12:05Speaker 2: do think I think Reef is a candidate to get
- 12:09Speaker 2: you another roster spot to go on ir. I don't
- 12:12Speaker 2: know the extent of his injury. It didn't look great
- 12:15Speaker 2: when when he got rolled up on against Tennessee. But
- 12:19Speaker 2: beyond that, unless you just decide the two guys you
- 12:22Speaker 2: picked up by we worked with them for two weeks.
- 12:23Speaker 2: They can't play, you know, and we're going to get
- 12:26Speaker 2: rid of them. I don't, I don't. It's just I
- 12:29Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know if you're going to get
- 12:31Speaker 2: a huge change from the eleven they have now. It's
- 12:33Speaker 2: I don't think they're only going to have eight. They
- 12:36Speaker 2: need bodies. You just saw it coming.
- 12:38Speaker 10: You saw it coming in the off season on paper,
- 12:41Speaker 10: and then as soon as they got into padded practices
- 12:44Speaker 10: in training camp, you saw it coming there as well.
- 12:46Speaker 10: That they never addressed right tackle with the premium mass set.
- 12:50Speaker 10: They didn't spend big money on it, they didn't draft
- 12:52Speaker 10: anybody early, and they had a bunch of darts that
- 12:56Speaker 10: they were just going to throw at the board. And
- 12:59Speaker 10: this was pre all the injuries, Like don't give me that.
- 13:02Speaker 10: Riley Reef got heard and Connor McDermott got heard and
- 13:04Speaker 10: all that, Like, No, those guys were not good options
- 13:07Speaker 10: to begin with.
- 13:08Speaker 5: And then I traded for more darts, traded for more.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I wouldn't feel any better if those two guys were
- 13:12Speaker 2: one hundred percent. I agree with that.
- 13:14Speaker 10: They had six offensive linemen, six tackles in free agency
- 13:19Speaker 10: that started that were actual starts, not Riley Reef coming
- 13:22Speaker 10: in week eight for the Bears, but were permanent starters
- 13:26Speaker 10: on their teams before, and five of them changed teams,
- 13:29Speaker 10: so it wasn't like you didn't have options.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And they weren't all big money.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, So for me, there weren't any surprise cuts. It
- 13:35Speaker 1: was just a surprise method of handling.
- 13:38Speaker 2: That was a surprise. I mean, that was a I mean,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I have to admit, like the only one that that
- 13:42Speaker 2: I heard, and you heard some rumblings with the backup
- 13:45Speaker 2: quarterback situation. But Matt Smith that morning came in. He goes,
- 13:49Speaker 2: I got socks. Yeah, I said, I got I got
- 13:51Speaker 2: a surprise cut candidate for you. And he said, Bailey
- 13:53Speaker 2: is happy, And I said, yeah, I don't see it.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I don't you know.
- 13:57Speaker 6: I'm not going to tell you out of the realm,
- 13:59Speaker 6: but I don't see it. Well, I tyically he wasn't cut,
- 14:02Speaker 6: and we had like he was.
- 14:03Speaker 2: He could have been. Oh, I think technically he was cut.
- 14:06Speaker 5: I know, and I would also this bank account knows
- 14:09Speaker 5: he was cut.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I would also say that question I have, by the way,
- 14:12Speaker 2: go ahead. The I wanted to bring out because when
- 14:16Speaker 2: I like to admit when I'm wrong, you know, there's
- 14:20Speaker 2: opinions this that we had a call I think on
- 14:23Speaker 2: the pregame show that last week that brought this up
- 14:27Speaker 2: Bailey Zappy and you know, it's like the situation with
- 14:29Speaker 2: quarterback and he hasn't played well. And I kind of
- 14:32Speaker 2: laughed and I said, well, it's not like he's going
- 14:33Speaker 2: to get cut, and he got cut, so I, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: I like to be full disclosure.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So my question and maybe Evan or I don't know
- 14:41Speaker 1: any of you can answer. When a guy like Harris
- 14:45Speaker 1: or Zappi got drafted and then they get cut and
- 14:48Speaker 1: then you bring them back, that a whole.
- 14:50Speaker 2: New contract, the new contract, so.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That is a loss of money for them.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It's not just a lot not not much, Yeah it is.
- 14:56Speaker 2: It's like six hundred k. I mean yeah, like you're
- 14:59Speaker 2: a fourth round pick. That's a lot of money. Zappi's
- 15:03Speaker 2: rookie deal that would have paid him around nine hundred.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Oh if you're talking about if he stays in the
- 15:06Speaker 2: practice squad, yeah, oh yes, I'm telling you, if he's
- 15:10Speaker 2: going to end up back on the roster, he's gonna
- 15:12Speaker 2: make like eight hundred and seventy thousand.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But he doesn't even back as a fourth round picks
- 15:17Speaker 1: a year to year second second year minimum, which is
- 15:19Speaker 1: very similar to a fourth round pick.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Yes, okay, but I'm just saying like, but you guys
- 15:25Speaker 2: are right. If it's a practice squad, it's a big gap. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 2: But the bigger thousand a week to me is that
- 15:31Speaker 2: it rips up year three and year four of the contract.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So he's year to year now with the Patriots. So
- 15:37Speaker 2: that's the money he loves.
- 15:38Speaker 10: That's the moody he loses. But that's also the team
- 15:40Speaker 10: control that they lose. Like let's say in the off season,
- 15:43Speaker 10: somebody looks at Bailey z Appy and looks at that
- 15:46Speaker 10: rookie film and says, well, the Patriots are done with him.
- 15:48Speaker 10: Then we actually, you know, think something of him, and
- 15:51Speaker 10: they want to make a trade for him. Well, now
- 15:53Speaker 10: he's not under contract. Or let's say he ends up
- 15:56Speaker 10: having to play this year, which I hope doesn't happen.
- 15:58Speaker 1: He loses his guarantee eight years, but he gains flexibility.
- 16:02Speaker 2: But this is where he didn't have guaranteed years. This
- 16:05Speaker 2: is like that you don't just sign an You don't
- 16:07Speaker 2: just sign as a fourth round pick and have four games.
- 16:10Speaker 1: But like if he stayed he knew how much money
- 16:12Speaker 1: he was gonna make.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Right, Well, my guess is he's gonna end up
- 16:15Speaker 2: if he ends up playing, well, he'll make more money. Yeah,
- 16:19Speaker 2: Because I also think if you're right, Fred, and they
- 16:21Speaker 2: had no intentions of losing him, they're going to give
- 16:23Speaker 2: him a little something, say listen, this is what we're
- 16:25Speaker 2: gonna do, but we're gonna make it.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Up to you.
- 16:26Speaker 7: I found it's actually the sweet from Alex barta he
- 16:29Speaker 7: Coo tweeted from earlier. It's like Alex bar but I
- 16:35Speaker 7: did not realize that when the Panthers, it was the
- 16:38Speaker 7: Panthers who traded up to get Matt Carrall, which then
- 16:41Speaker 7: the Patriots were able to get Billy z Appy and
- 16:43Speaker 7: Marte Mapu.
- 16:44Speaker 9: I'm like, it's so sad.
- 16:45Speaker 7: It's like, you know, when you're gonna benefit from trading
- 16:47Speaker 7: back or trading up with people. I wish that those
- 16:50Speaker 7: were turned into two valuable picks. One we hope Martine
- 16:53Speaker 7: Mapu is, but two I'm like, I hope Billy Zappi
- 16:55Speaker 7: turns it around, because it's like a backup is clearly hard.
- 16:58Speaker 9: To find nowadays. And then there was another tweet that
- 17:01Speaker 9: was like they were looking.
- 17:01Speaker 7: At Tommy DeVito, who they had in the Shrine Bowl,
- 17:03Speaker 7: and I'm like, really over.
- 17:05Speaker 9: Really zappy, Like it's just that's not a veteran pick.
- 17:09Speaker 5: No, why would it take so long?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Though?
- 17:11Speaker 6: I mean, don't you feel like they they're there to
- 17:13Speaker 6: get somebody in here asap?
- 17:15Speaker 5: Like if they're going to get.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Another quarterback, I think is the backup quarterback? Yeah, whether
- 17:19Speaker 2: they signed someone today or not, that that person's not
- 17:22Speaker 2: going to be ready to play in the game at
- 17:26Speaker 2: that position. I think that's asking too much.
- 17:28Speaker 9: I'm also looking around, like, who where.
- 17:30Speaker 2: One one team did that I would have taken? Will
- 17:34Speaker 2: like him, Brady's available out of the last ten or
- 17:37Speaker 2: fifteen years.
- 17:38Speaker 9: You know something, I will say, Will Greer is great.
- 17:41Speaker 10: I like Will Greer, I like I think Cole McCoy
- 17:44Speaker 10: is like your classic, like Brian Hoyer, veteran backup quarterback,
- 17:49Speaker 10: but Brian Hoyer, I do.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I do also want to say he's on a team. Yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 2: he's on the Raiders. He made the Raiders.
- 17:56Speaker 10: But this is different than so a lot of people
- 17:58Speaker 10: have brought up Max rookie year in twenty twenty one,
- 18:01Speaker 10: when they he was the only quarterback on the roster.
- 18:03Speaker 10: For a day day also, but they cut Cam knowing
- 18:07Speaker 10: that Cam had no role here anymore, and they cut Hoyer,
- 18:10Speaker 10: who was a vested veteran so he wasn't subject to waivers,
- 18:14Speaker 10: so they knew.
- 18:15Speaker 2: When they cut Hoyer.
- 18:16Speaker 10: They had a little wink wink, nod nod, like we're
- 18:19Speaker 10: gonna cut you for procedural reasons, but you're coming right back.
- 18:24Speaker 10: They didn't subject Hoyer to thirty one other teams poaching
- 18:27Speaker 10: him off of waivers. So this is totally a different situation,
- 18:30Speaker 10: Like they dangled Zappi out there and gambled, and.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I don't know, you never know what is exactly true
- 18:36Speaker 2: and what's not. But Tom Pallisero had a tweet yesterday
- 18:39Speaker 2: that said there were seven teams interested in bringing Bailey
- 18:42Speaker 2: Zappi into the practice squad. Again, there's a difference between
- 18:46Speaker 2: no one claimed him on waivers and no one had
- 18:48Speaker 2: interest in him. Right, you know, the waivers thing is
- 18:51Speaker 2: much different because it locks you into three weeks on
- 18:56Speaker 2: the roster, and roster spots are valuable. So I do
- 19:00Speaker 2: think that Evan's point, that's the difference between two years
- 19:04Speaker 2: ago in this year, they really had no chance to
- 19:07Speaker 2: lose Brian Hoyer. They cut a guy. They know that this. Listen,
- 19:10Speaker 2: this is what we're gonna do. You're gonna end up
- 19:12Speaker 2: back on the roster. It's not gonna cost you any money, right,
- 19:15Speaker 2: Just sit tight. And I remember the.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Time the word procedural was brought.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Up, right, you know this I don't think was procedural. No,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I think this.
- 19:23Speaker 6: That's a calculative risk, yes, And I think that's the
- 19:26Speaker 6: way it worked out. But I think they were perfectly
- 19:28Speaker 6: fine if it didn't work out this way. I don't
- 19:30Speaker 6: know what they would have done. I don't know what
- 19:32Speaker 6: they're going to do, but I think that they were
- 19:35Speaker 6: okay with it.
- 19:35Speaker 2: And that's fine.
- 19:36Speaker 10: Like I'm okay with it, Like I don't like I
- 19:38Speaker 10: because I don't really look at Bailly Zappi as any
- 19:40Speaker 10: different than any other bat.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm okay with it too, because I think you're done
- 19:43Speaker 2: when your back to the quarterback has to play. I
- 19:45Speaker 2: don't care who you are.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it depends on the length of the injury for
- 19:48Speaker 1: you start. If it's a couple of games, you need
- 19:50Speaker 1: a backup that can keep you up afloat, you know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: maybe when you a game or two, you know, And I.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Think that that's important. You know, when you when.
- 19:58Speaker 1: You were a team that has high expectations, you need
- 20:01Speaker 1: to have all your bases covered. And one of them
- 20:03Speaker 1: is I might lose my quarterback for a game or
- 20:06Speaker 1: half a game or two games.
- 20:07Speaker 2: You know, if you have high expectations, that won't. That
- 20:09Speaker 2: won't hurt you. I just it will if you don't
- 20:12Speaker 2: have a quarterback.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it won't.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I just have to do you have high expectations and
- 20:16Speaker 2: you lose a quarterback for a game, and you lose
- 20:18Speaker 2: a game that you thought you were going to win.
- 20:20Speaker 2: All right, so we're still in the playoffs. We're great.
- 20:24Speaker 6: I don't know, just a mere speed Sean Wade, one
- 20:27Speaker 6: of those guys couldn't have made it through. And I
- 20:29Speaker 6: just and I think that it's more than how how
- 20:31Speaker 6: has this affected the player? I mean, did you just
- 20:33Speaker 6: blindside Bailey Zappy? And that was he invested?
- 20:37Speaker 2: So that's what I'm far more interested.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I wonder if a conversation was made ahead of time, it.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Was not Oh you know that.
- 20:48Speaker 10: The word that I got from somebody in Zappi's camp
- 20:51Speaker 10: was blindsided.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Wow, we were as blind as understanding.
- 20:57Speaker 2: So do you that's more of an off here? I'm
- 21:02Speaker 2: with with Mike on this, and as you guys know,
- 21:05Speaker 2: like the nuts and bolts I leave to others like Evan,
- 21:08Speaker 2: and I'm much more fascinated in the interactions in the
- 21:11Speaker 2: you know, quote unquote drama. Yeah, okay, so last year,
- 21:15Speaker 2: I don't think that they could have handled Mac Jones
- 21:16Speaker 2: any worse than they did, and they you know, I
- 21:19Speaker 2: think it's gotten almost a full year before the head
- 21:22Speaker 2: coach has started once again to refer to him as
- 21:26Speaker 2: Mac Jones. How long do we go before we even
- 21:29Speaker 2: heard his name from from Bill? So we're finally getting
- 21:32Speaker 2: that back and now let's see what we can do
- 21:35Speaker 2: to alienate the backup right right? Like, I don't like
- 21:41Speaker 2: that there was a lot of talk about Bill O'Brien.
- 21:45Speaker 2: This was a you know, this was a Bill O'Brien
- 21:47Speaker 2: power play because he wanted to make good for Mac,
- 21:50Speaker 2: And like, does that make any sense to anybody?
- 21:52Speaker 9: No?
- 21:53Speaker 10: Like, I do think it makes sense that And just
- 21:56Speaker 10: based off of what we saw in Tennessee on the sideline,
- 22:00Speaker 10: I don't think it was working with Bailey Zappy in this.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Oh no, he was. He was upset with that throw
- 22:04Speaker 2: that he made to Malie, hunting him there's no question. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 2: him broadcast.
- 22:08Speaker 7: Him not working in the system and understanding like Bill
- 22:11Speaker 7: O'Brien's offense, that's one thing, but like doing it to
- 22:14Speaker 7: make Mac feel better, Absolutely not.
- 22:16Speaker 2: No.
- 22:17Speaker 10: I genuinely think that they looked at Bailey Zappi's performance
- 22:21Speaker 10: in training camp and said, we can find this with
- 22:25Speaker 10: ten other guys that are probably gonna hit the waiver wire.
- 22:27Speaker 10: Because let's be honest, he was. He was bad like
- 22:31Speaker 10: he it wasn't just in the games like he was
- 22:32Speaker 10: bad in practice too. And I think the MAC talked
- 22:36Speaker 10: a lot about the mental stress that this offense puts
- 22:39Speaker 10: on the quarterback. It's all on the quarterback at the
- 22:41Speaker 10: line of scrimmage to get the offense in the right play,
- 22:44Speaker 10: get the protection set, adjust to things after the snap,
- 22:48Speaker 10: and that seemed to bog Bailey Zappy down.
- 22:51Speaker 7: Like.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I don't think that that's the type of.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Guy that he is.
- 22:53Speaker 10: I think he despite his maybe his physical limitations, I
- 22:57Speaker 10: think he's kind of a gun slinger.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I think he wants to touch.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The down the field with the Eastern Illinois or Western Kentucky,
- 23:03Speaker 1: Western Kentucky, yeah, one of those.
- 23:07Speaker 10: Yeah, that he's he's a playmaker. I use that word
- 23:12Speaker 10: lightly because he's not Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes obviously,
- 23:16Speaker 10: but he's not a quarterback that wants to you know,
- 23:21Speaker 10: read full field progressions and have sight adjustments and route
- 23:25Speaker 10: options and I gotta set the protections and I gotta
- 23:28Speaker 10: you know, we have two plays called in the huddle,
- 23:30Speaker 10: and I have to pick the best one based off
- 23:32Speaker 10: of this and that, and like that's I just don't
- 23:34Speaker 10: think that that as his game. And last year it
- 23:36Speaker 10: was certainly not that complicated, and they watered it down,
- 23:40Speaker 10: uh to like almost high school level, and he's just
- 23:43Speaker 10: running play action and averaging seventeen yards per attempt off
- 23:46Speaker 10: play action.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So again, you know the old pu adage, look at
- 23:51Speaker 1: what they do, not what they say, and what they're
- 23:55Speaker 1: doing is telling us that this, like Evan said, this
- 23:58Speaker 1: offensive line is a work in progress.
- 24:00Speaker 5: They don't know, no question.
- 24:02Speaker 1: What it's going to be.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Like we all want anything surprising to anybody, not really
- 24:08Speaker 2: really gotten together and talked about that stuff, well everything.
- 24:12Speaker 1: But when you know why they did it, then nothing
- 24:15Speaker 1: else becomes a surprise. But when you first look at
- 24:17Speaker 1: it looking you know that was having just two running backs,
- 24:20Speaker 1: you know, was a surprise.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yes, I would agree.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I thought they were going to keep like they wave circle,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you know, like I thought they would keep him, you know,
- 24:27Speaker 1: but I now, but now you understand they needed those spots,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and they were willing to risk.
- 24:32Speaker 2: All those guys. They wait the only one. I was like,
- 24:34Speaker 2: not wave.
- 24:35Speaker 9: But like a mere speed. Did he really do? Did
- 24:38Speaker 9: he blow your mind that much to put him on
- 24:39Speaker 9: the rouster?
- 24:40Speaker 2: I was shocked that he made like.
- 24:42Speaker 9: That's the one.
- 24:42Speaker 10: I was like, huh, yeah, because Belichick last week called
- 24:45Speaker 10: him a developmental player.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I wonder if he did that. But also they knew
- 24:49Speaker 1: that there were teams that were interested in him. He's
- 24:52Speaker 1: the guy that somebody would snatch if we put him.
- 24:55Speaker 2: On you know. I mean when you hear the word
- 24:57Speaker 2: developmental player written right, said that.
- 25:02Speaker 6: For a reason because I was going to keep them,
- 25:04Speaker 6: throw people cheers. But he kept him.
- 25:08Speaker 2: That's what That's what I well, okay, that's the opposite.
- 25:11Speaker 6: But I like say that if you're you want to
- 25:16Speaker 6: he might but like Booty probably did.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I mean probably that he was glowing about Booty and
- 25:21Speaker 1: Booty makes the team like he was, you know, I
- 25:23Speaker 1: didn't want to risk it with him.
- 25:25Speaker 6: Yeah, now that those those two I think. I mean,
- 25:27Speaker 6: I think we all kind of said similar things after
- 25:29Speaker 6: the draft. If one of these six round guys can
- 25:31Speaker 6: make the team and actually shows, and they have both
- 25:33Speaker 6: of them, so I think it's a that's a good
- 25:35Speaker 6: that's a good takeaway.
- 25:36Speaker 7: For I don't have I was gonna say, if you
- 25:39Speaker 7: know Isaiah Bolden didn't get injured.
- 25:42Speaker 9: He probably yeah, it would have been him overspeed.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 25:46Speaker 6: I like that they they iured him, which I just
- 25:48Speaker 6: makes sense. I think it's it's good. He'll get out
- 25:50Speaker 6: of year on I R and and hopefully he'll develop
- 25:52Speaker 6: and come back. But I liked what I saw Bolden
- 25:54Speaker 6: this year. I mean, maybe it's just the traits, but
- 25:57Speaker 6: he looks like a he looks like a player.
- 25:58Speaker 1: That's a good point. I mean, if Bolden was healthy.
- 26:01Speaker 2: No, that was the swap. I think a lot of
- 26:03Speaker 2: people I had Bolden on my lad I don't know
- 26:05Speaker 2: if I haven't, I mean I had Bolden still. Yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: but that's the same thing like if you asked me
- 26:10Speaker 2: the day of, I would have flip flopped them. Yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 2: you know.
- 26:14Speaker 10: But it's interesting, like guys like Sean Wade, Sam Roberts,
- 26:18Speaker 10: they had good preseasons and I wasn't sure if it
- 26:20Speaker 10: was going to be enough for them to make the roster,
- 26:22Speaker 10: but they those are the types of guys that did
- 26:26Speaker 10: every little thing that they possibly could have to make
- 26:28Speaker 10: the team. And I talked to Sean Wade in the
- 26:30Speaker 10: locker room the other day about moving back to nickel
- 26:33Speaker 10: and safety and not playing as much on the outside,
- 26:36Speaker 10: and he was like that that kind of changed everything
- 26:38Speaker 10: for me, Like I feel much more comfortable playing inside
- 26:42Speaker 10: and in the middle of the field, and.
- 26:44Speaker 2: That's where I had.
- 26:44Speaker 10: You know, he even referenced his big year in college
- 26:46Speaker 10: that we always talk about with him, and he brought
- 26:49Speaker 10: it up that that's valid and that that's really where
- 26:52Speaker 10: he feels at home. So I think that Wades an
- 26:54Speaker 10: interesting player to me because he brings some size to
- 26:57Speaker 10: the slot role and the other guys are five a, five, nine,
- 27:00Speaker 10: and if they go up against some of these bigger
- 27:02Speaker 10: slot receivers, then maybe he's somebody that can cover the option.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's funny to me because I think the
- 27:09Speaker 2: reason for me to want to keep Wade was his
- 27:12Speaker 2: size to potentially help on the outside, you know, but
- 27:17Speaker 2: right he hasn't really played as much out there, and
- 27:20Speaker 2: I you know, I think a lot of people thought,
- 27:24Speaker 2: you know, Carl Davis could go interesting. You see.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Did you hear anything about his post on I read it? Yeah, yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 5: just refreshing. Yeah, just like I didn't bring it hard enough.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't play as well as I could have.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't give it all. And yeah, that's
- 27:37Speaker 2: what happens here.
- 27:38Speaker 5: I am. I think I do think that's a little
- 27:40Speaker 5: bit of an interesting cut.
- 27:40Speaker 6: I know we talked about you know, you guys both said, oh,
- 27:42Speaker 6: I forget who you said you'd rather have than than him?
- 27:45Speaker 6: Maybe Carl Davis or sorry, you'd rather have Sam Roberts
- 27:48Speaker 6: than him. I think we talked about that on the show.
- 27:50Speaker 6: I actually thought both of them were going to get cut. Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 6: I'd be honest.
- 27:53Speaker 5: I just I didn't think Carl Davis is anything special.
- 27:55Speaker 6: But I just you know, when you go goal line
- 27:57Speaker 6: have run heavy those kinds like he's just he's just
- 28:00Speaker 6: something in the in the bank as far as side,
- 28:02Speaker 6: something unique, and I just I don't think, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 6: unless you're expecting a lot out of Godshaw, you know,
- 28:06Speaker 6: you just don't have that extra kind of guy in
- 28:08Speaker 6: the rotation.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Keep in mind. That's a spot that I think they're
- 28:11Speaker 2: continuing to look at. What's the guy Mark McCall that
- 28:16Speaker 2: didn't physical?
- 28:17Speaker 5: That's a big noise tackle type, you know.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Three hundred and twenty plus pound guy, and I'm looking for.
- 28:22Speaker 6: That not impossible to find because it's a unique kind
- 28:25Speaker 6: of player specific, it's not.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Impossible to find. But also, and don't ever just count
- 28:29Speaker 2: this stuff. You know, what's Carl Davis like, eighth ninth year? Now, yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 2: you know Sam Roberts here two, Yeah, save a little
- 28:37Speaker 2: dough developmental guy. I think you would reward Roberts because
- 28:41Speaker 2: I think he played really well. I mean, I know,
- 28:43Speaker 2: I don't people don't put a ton into the preseason
- 28:46Speaker 2: games themselves, but he played well in the games.
- 28:48Speaker 6: I like Roberts and I like Kem White, you know,
- 28:50Speaker 6: because I think largely this defense is very much the
- 28:53Speaker 6: same as it was last year.
- 28:54Speaker 5: You know, a lot of the same pieces.
- 28:56Speaker 6: You're kind of and I guess the question I'm answered
- 28:58Speaker 6: asking myself now is, you know, basically, I think it's
- 29:00Speaker 6: gonna come down to guys.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Certainly, Gonzalez is gonna play a big role. I don't
- 29:04Speaker 5: know how much of a role. I mean, I expect
- 29:06Speaker 5: ke On White to be active and probably rotational.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Guy.
- 29:08Speaker 5: I don't know if Sam Roberts is even gonna be active.
- 29:10Speaker 6: But are those enough new pieces? Like is this is
- 29:13Speaker 6: this defense still ascending? You know, you got a lot
- 29:16Speaker 6: of guys who are around thirty, You got you know,
- 29:18Speaker 6: Judon's up in early thirties, like you know, I just
- 29:21Speaker 6: I don't want to miss the crest of this defense.
- 29:23Speaker 6: And that's one thing I'm kind of concerned about, is
- 29:25Speaker 6: are those rookies, the young pieces that have been mixed in,
- 29:28Speaker 6: are they gonna get enough to like raise the level
- 29:30Speaker 6: of play on the defense and get them playing better
- 29:32Speaker 6: against the good teams you know.
- 29:34Speaker 2: They actually use.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Are they gonna Actually I haven't even mentioned him. I
- 29:37Speaker 6: mean I don't, I don't. I don't really have high
- 29:39Speaker 6: expectations for him this year as far as what they're
- 29:41Speaker 6: gonna play him, and that, I mean, I'm disappointed about that.
- 29:43Speaker 6: But from what I've seen, it seems like he's the
- 29:45Speaker 6: six safety on the team right now.
- 29:47Speaker 5: You know, I don't what a waste?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Sorry, no, just being honest.
- 29:51Speaker 6: No, I I mean I agree, and that's I mean,
- 29:54Speaker 6: you know, people are making fun of me on the
- 29:55Speaker 6: Draft show. For my insto reaction, I said, if this
- 29:58Speaker 6: works out, great, I don't know what what it is.
- 29:59Speaker 5: I still don't.
- 30:00Speaker 6: I mean, I stick by what I said after the
- 30:02Speaker 6: draft they love the player except for me, right, I
- 30:05Speaker 6: don't remember saying that, But but I think, you know,
- 30:07Speaker 6: Evan and I we both really like the kid, the
- 30:09Speaker 6: way he plays, and think that, you know, he brings
- 30:11Speaker 6: something different to the party. But when you look at
- 30:13Speaker 6: how they've been using him, and granted he was injured
- 30:15Speaker 6: for a large part of the summer.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think we've seen I don't.
- 30:18Speaker 5: Want to see a role for him right now.
- 30:20Speaker 6: Yeah, he's not gonna bump Mills out or Pepper's or
- 30:23Speaker 6: you know, if he's gonna play safety, and then you know,
- 30:25Speaker 6: maybe we'd like we talked about mac Wilson, like maybe
- 30:27Speaker 6: all right, sub linebacker, we can get him in there
- 30:29Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I think, whether it's Mapool or other, I think we're
- 30:32Speaker 1: going to be surprised once the season starts and how
- 30:35Speaker 1: they use a lot of these players.
- 30:36Speaker 5: I hope so. And i'd say the same thing for
- 30:38Speaker 5: Keon White, like I think would be the surprise.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Well, I think maybe for example, Mapool might be used.
- 30:43Speaker 1: As you know, we talk why not use him as
- 30:45Speaker 1: a linebacker?
- 30:45Speaker 2: I think they might. Yeah, I think they might too.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I think they might. But we didn't see a lot
- 30:49Speaker 2: of that in the preseason. Yeah we did, but we
- 30:51Speaker 2: did the one game that he played, he did do that. Yeah,
- 30:54Speaker 2: so that's why I think he's send time there. Mike
- 30:57Speaker 2: and I talked about that on Tuesday. Yeah, a little.
- 30:58Speaker 5: I just I just I think I'll be disappointed.
- 31:01Speaker 6: Like if mac Wilson is third and long and mac
- 31:03Speaker 6: Wilson's out there over MAPU, We're all going to look
- 31:05Speaker 6: at each other.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But you know, that's when you killed my buzz on Tuesday,
- 31:09Speaker 2: because that's exactly my feeling. How will we go?
- 31:13Speaker 6: Yeah, so maybe an athletic guy might half a step
- 31:17Speaker 6: faster than the other guys that have been doing it
- 31:19Speaker 6: might help you.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Jalen hurts, yet, you know, not just shut down.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Jalen hurts.
- 31:25Speaker 6: I'm not that's stupid, but maybe a little bit more
- 31:28Speaker 6: speed in athleticism.
- 31:30Speaker 5: I would just say, I don't want to get to
- 31:31Speaker 5: the end of this year.
- 31:31Speaker 6: And feel like, well, aside from Gonzales, they look really
- 31:34Speaker 6: old and slow. They're starting to get old and slow.
- 31:36Speaker 6: You know, it doesn't look like that's what.
- 31:38Speaker 5: That's what.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I don't very negative. I'm saying my concerns even I'm
- 31:41Speaker 2: not negative on the defense.
- 31:43Speaker 10: I I I still am concerned about free safety. I
- 31:48Speaker 10: have no idea how they're going to handle that and
- 31:50Speaker 10: what it's going to look like without Devin. In terms
- 31:52Speaker 10: of just the communication all that stuff. I think they'll
- 31:56Speaker 10: they'll figure it out. Like talking is talking, but who's
- 31:59Speaker 10: going to play the deep on third down?
- 32:00Speaker 5: Talk about a little bit. I don't want to ruin
- 32:02Speaker 5: your article.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Don't ruin it.
- 32:04Speaker 5: But I thought, you know, he talked to Devin about
- 32:06Speaker 5: it a little bit.
- 32:06Speaker 6: And I mean, I'll let you you say it, but
- 32:08Speaker 6: I think it's interesting and the got to have it moments.
- 32:09Speaker 6: Who you're not gonna just be spinning the dial. You're
- 32:12Speaker 6: gonna have to settle into all right, this is what
- 32:14Speaker 6: we are when it's a got to have it moment.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Yeah, we're predictable, but this is where these guys are
- 32:18Speaker 5: the best.
- 32:18Speaker 10: And I mean, so he hopefully he could be out
- 32:22Speaker 10: on Monday. I think we're thinking. But I talked to
- 32:25Speaker 10: him the other day and he he just mentioned that
- 32:28Speaker 10: he really put himself with Chung and Doron Harmon like
- 32:31Speaker 10: those were kind of hit his guys that he really.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I guess related to or whatever.
- 32:37Speaker 10: And he said that in god to have it situations,
- 32:40Speaker 10: you know, third down, two minute whatever, they knew Harmon
- 32:44Speaker 10: was going to be in the deep middle, he was
- 32:46Speaker 10: going to be playing, you know, kind of a rover role,
- 32:48Speaker 10: and Chung was going to be in the box somewhere,
- 32:50Speaker 10: and they kind of all had complimentary skill sets and
- 32:52Speaker 10: were able to go to their strength, is what he said.
- 32:56Speaker 10: When the money was on the line, and with this
- 32:59Speaker 10: secondary grew open, with these safeties, they all are kind
- 33:01Speaker 10: of similar. So what how someone's going to have to
- 33:05Speaker 10: play something that they're not usually playing, Like, someone's not
- 33:08Speaker 10: going to be able to go to their strength of
- 33:10Speaker 10: their skill set, and who is that player going to be?
- 33:14Speaker 10: And that player is not only going to have to
- 33:16Speaker 10: be selfless in saying this might not be where I'm
- 33:18Speaker 10: going to make the most plays or be the most effective,
- 33:20Speaker 10: but this is what the team needs me to do
- 33:22Speaker 10: and is it going to be effective just in general
- 33:25Speaker 10: if that's where they put him. But with Mapu, I
- 33:27Speaker 10: mean he made that tackle against Taj Spears in the
- 33:31Speaker 10: Tennessee game, from the deep middle. Nobody else on this
- 33:34Speaker 10: team can make that tackle like he he when Next
- 33:38Speaker 10: Gen clocked him at nineteen point five miles an hour
- 33:41Speaker 10: running across the field to tackle Spears after Spears stiff
- 33:46Speaker 10: armed Jack Jones.
- 33:47Speaker 2: That's what you need. They don't have anybody else that
- 33:50Speaker 2: can make that tackle. I like the speed and just
- 33:52Speaker 2: I want to be in full disclosure because when you
- 33:54Speaker 2: were before you returned from practice, we talked that again.
- 34:00Speaker 2: We talked a little bit about that play, and I
- 34:02Speaker 2: didn't know it was the first time he's really been
- 34:04Speaker 2: in the game, so I'm not losing any you know,
- 34:06Speaker 2: sleepover it. I didn't like his angle. I thought he
- 34:09Speaker 2: had the angle and almost got dusted because I don't
- 34:12Speaker 2: think he pursued properly. Yeah, rather fortunate, I know exactly.
- 34:19Speaker 10: I talked to him a little bit in the locker room,
- 34:21Speaker 10: but you know with rookies, they cut you off pretty quickly,
- 34:24Speaker 10: so I didn't get a chance to get to that part.
- 34:26Speaker 10: But when I watched it, I thought he thought that
- 34:29Speaker 10: Jack Jones was going to slow him down.
- 34:31Speaker 2: So he was to take sense.
- 34:32Speaker 10: So he was taking the angle to Jack Field Jones
- 34:35Speaker 10: and then as soon as he saw Jack Jones got
- 34:37Speaker 10: stiffed arm.
- 34:38Speaker 2: He had to then just last minute to going in
- 34:41Speaker 2: a straight line towards ta J Spears. I know probably
- 34:44Speaker 2: a lot of the listeners don't know a lot of
- 34:46Speaker 2: really good. He's a really like electric player in the
- 34:50Speaker 2: open field. He had an incredible year last year for
- 34:53Speaker 2: a very good two lane team, the Green Wave, the
- 34:55Speaker 2: twelve wind two lane Green Wave.
- 34:57Speaker 5: And Senior Bowl too.
- 34:58Speaker 6: Right, that's where I saw him, and he like he
- 35:00Speaker 6: made a cut in the backfield that was just like
- 35:02Speaker 6: a ninety degree.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Nobody knows Louisiana sports like Paul No, No.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Well, it's really good. This is really weird. There was
- 35:09Speaker 2: like a day last year. It was like a Saturday
- 35:11Speaker 2: afternoon and TJ was with US boys downstairs and whatever
- 35:15Speaker 2: the game that was on ESPN at the time. It
- 35:18Speaker 2: was just on and it was too late, interesting and
- 35:22Speaker 2: they're watching the game and TJ fell in love with
- 35:24Speaker 2: Taj Spears and he was like, this guy's really good.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So you know, we like after that every time, you know,
- 35:32Speaker 2: there's seventeen games on every Saturday, you click out to
- 35:35Speaker 2: Lane's on day, you guy, and we'd watch him and
- 35:37Speaker 2: I was like, this guy's really good. It's like darren sprolls.
- 35:39Speaker 5: It looks really good again. Man, he looks good in
- 35:41Speaker 5: the pros too.
- 35:42Speaker 9: Okay, so another one, last surprise. I was a little.
- 35:45Speaker 7: Surprised about Nick Folk. I was especially for a team
- 35:48Speaker 7: that has struggled in the red.
- 35:49Speaker 9: Zone they rely on. Yeah, the pick three. I'm gonna
- 35:52Speaker 9: use Hardy's term, but I was shocked because.
- 35:55Speaker 7: It's like, you're going, You're going into this year like
- 35:58Speaker 7: you have a lot of inconsistency your offensive line.
- 36:00Speaker 9: You might need those field goals.
- 36:02Speaker 2: I'm just yeah, he's back. No, No, I mean traded them.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I mean, Thank you, Paul.
- 36:13Speaker 6: I feel like I kind of feel like they got
- 36:15Speaker 6: out probably at the right time.
- 36:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 36:16Speaker 6: It's like it just seems like the clock is ticking
- 36:18Speaker 6: on him and they got they really get a seventh round.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I mean, not worthing straight up in the fourth round
- 36:22Speaker 2: for a kicker and then not take the kicker, right.
- 36:24Speaker 10: I mean, the only way that Ryland doesn't win that
- 36:26Speaker 10: job is if he's a disaster.
- 36:27Speaker 2: If it's right and that and that was the single
- 36:31Speaker 2: worst professional kicking perfoments I've ever watched, and I'm not
- 36:34Speaker 2: exaggerating like vander Jack at least was a good kicker
- 36:37Speaker 2: who then once kicked one into the side, almost kicked
- 36:41Speaker 2: into the sideline bleachers, like that was a kicker that
- 36:44Speaker 2: was the one kick choke like role Washer did that
- 36:48Speaker 2: every single never yet never.
- 36:50Speaker 7: Was pretty interesting though, just watching like how many people
- 36:54Speaker 7: needed a kicker, like there.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Was a kicker market.
- 36:57Speaker 5: Yeah, literally, I couldn't get nick.
- 37:01Speaker 9: A bunch of people need a kicker right now.
- 37:02Speaker 10: What I'm surprised about, and I think maybe when it
- 37:05Speaker 10: comes to I'm not surprised that Ryland won the job
- 37:07Speaker 10: by any means, but I'm a little bit surprised that
- 37:10Speaker 10: they didn't consider maybe trying to see if folk would
- 37:14Speaker 10: stick around on the practice squad as like insurance to Ryland,
- 37:18Speaker 10: Like was the twenty twenty five to seventh round pick
- 37:21Speaker 10: really worth it that now if y stinks, then you're screwed.
- 37:24Speaker 2: We're going to turn that into it. I just don't
- 37:26Speaker 2: think it makes much sense to do that sixth round, Like,
- 37:28Speaker 2: if you're going to turn it over to we rookie,
- 37:30Speaker 2: you don't want him looking over his shoulder, Like, I
- 37:32Speaker 2: just don't think it made anything.
- 37:33Speaker 7: So that's Teresa from the Associated Press tweeted today they
- 37:37Speaker 7: were in locker room with Nick Folk, and he says
- 37:39Speaker 7: that Belichick told him that their Platts were going to
- 37:41Speaker 7: release him, and they were letting him go, but then
- 37:43Speaker 7: the Titans were interested in him, and then Folk talked
- 37:46Speaker 7: to Tennessee coach Mike Rabel and then that's when the
- 37:49Speaker 7: trade ended up happening.
- 37:50Speaker 9: But they did let him know that they were going.
- 37:52Speaker 1: To cut him.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't think there was any other way
- 37:54Speaker 2: to do it, you know. I mean, certainly they cut
- 37:56Speaker 2: a back, they cut all their quarterbacks and running backs
- 37:59Speaker 2: because they didn't have rush spots. They certainly weren't going
- 38:01Speaker 2: to keep two kickers. And I think even the idea
- 38:03Speaker 2: of bringing him back in the practice squad, like I said,
- 38:06Speaker 2: it doesn't send a good message to Ryland.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Do you feel the same way about about Bearinger with
- 38:12Speaker 5: Weightman on them now?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Because that wasn't close which one I don't know what
- 38:18Speaker 2: I think was significantly significantly better than Wayman. I think
- 38:22Speaker 2: his best is significantly better. I think he's very inconsistent,
- 38:27Speaker 2: but I don't really respectful.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He doesn't like punters, he doesn't like backup quarterbacks, he
- 38:33Speaker 1: doesn't like kickers.
- 38:34Speaker 2: No, backup quarterbacks. Is that's that's not true. That that
- 38:38Speaker 2: that's you just put words in my mouth. The situation
- 38:42Speaker 2: with the roster to me, like there was a kicker market,
- 38:46Speaker 2: right yeah, because you can always get a kicker like
- 38:50Speaker 2: that to me is like, yeah, okay, all right, Well
- 38:53Speaker 2: we have this jag in who's the same as all
- 38:55Speaker 2: the other jags. But he's been inconsistent this summer. Hey,
- 38:58Speaker 2: Nick Folk's been pretty good the last few years. I
- 39:00Speaker 2: would just go and get nitp fold, Like I just I.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Think the Rams are don't have a kicker right now.
- 39:04Speaker 2: There's like three teams that have, like you know, it's
- 39:08Speaker 2: like Daniel Coulson and you know Evan McPherson obviously, Justin Tucker.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Everybody else has a guy who makes about eighty nine
- 39:16Speaker 2: percent of his field goals and they there with Folk.
- 39:19Speaker 10: And I'm not trying to like kick him on the
- 39:21Speaker 10: way out. I love Folk is super consistent for the
- 39:24Speaker 10: Patriots for the last couple of years, but last year,
- 39:27Speaker 10: like forty five plus was Oh it's.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Like he's set there, get there, yah, And even this
- 39:32Speaker 6: summer though some of his longer kicks, it's just it
- 39:34Speaker 6: just hangs there, right.
- 39:36Speaker 10: So maybe he was a little bit more consistent than
- 39:39Speaker 10: Ryland within like forty to forty five yards. But at
- 39:42Speaker 10: least with Ryland, you're gonna have some range where if
- 39:45Speaker 10: you have to make a fifty three yarder at the
- 39:47Speaker 10: end of the game to send it to overtime, but
- 39:48Speaker 10: you don't go for it.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I'll give you your your chest checkers already right now. Okay,
- 39:53Speaker 2: Nick Folk will not make ninety percent of his kicks
- 39:56Speaker 2: for Tennessee this year because he was he was Evans right,
- 40:00Speaker 2: like you could see it, like the the leg strength
- 40:03Speaker 2: was was going. Even some of the makes were like
- 40:06Speaker 2: chess check Yeah, chess checker. He pulled the plug at
- 40:10Speaker 2: the right time.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, eight five five pass five hundred is
- 40:13Speaker 1: the a stick and hut line.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Let's go to John and Louisiana. What's up John?
- 40:18Speaker 1: Just two lane that hey questions the first questions about
- 40:26Speaker 1: we want basically.
- 40:29Speaker 2: You know, but the I'm having trouble hearing.
- 40:37Speaker 1: It's like in an escape room or something.
- 40:39Speaker 5: Do you know what I got?
- 40:40Speaker 2: The question is? What's the question? Yeah?
- 40:41Speaker 5: Just what what are you gonna what are.
- 40:42Speaker 6: You gonna try to take away against the Eagles? He said,
- 40:45Speaker 6: you know, Belichick's thing is like, I'm gonna take try
- 40:47Speaker 6: to take something away. What would you try to take
- 40:49Speaker 6: away from the Eagles. We got to talk about this
- 40:51Speaker 6: on the on the on the Pot yesterday we had
- 40:53Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Of sweet double escape lanes. You know, I would say
- 40:58Speaker 1: a J. Brown, he hurts in the pocket.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Well, I mean and Evan you can talk about your
- 41:02Speaker 5: film review of the Yeah.
- 41:03Speaker 10: So it's nice to get the little head start on
- 41:06Speaker 10: the Eagles. And I don't have as much writing to
- 41:08Speaker 10: do next week hopefully, But with the Eagles, that to me,
- 41:12Speaker 10: the biggest thing is that their early down run game
- 41:15Speaker 10: RPO sequencing is just off the charts good. And if
- 41:18Speaker 10: you don't get them out of that series of run RPO,
- 41:23Speaker 10: run hurts run. You know this that they'd never get
- 41:27Speaker 10: into third down. They'll go right down the field on
- 41:30Speaker 10: first and second down and third and short. You know,
- 41:32Speaker 10: we've seen like the rugby thing that they do on
- 41:34Speaker 10: the sneaks, and they were the second best team in
- 41:37Speaker 10: the league on third and short, third and five or less.
- 41:40Speaker 10: If you get them into third and long, they're middle
- 41:42Speaker 10: of the pack. They go down all the way down
- 41:44Speaker 10: to fifteenth. So really, for me, I think it's first
- 41:48Speaker 10: and second down, they are going to option you to death.
- 41:51Speaker 10: It's gonna be hurts in the gun read option RPO
- 41:55Speaker 10: and they can run it right down your throats and
- 41:57Speaker 10: if you let them do that, then they will bring
- 42:00Speaker 10: your will. And that's exactly what happened to the Giants
- 42:03Speaker 10: and that playoff game specifically thirty eight to seven is
- 42:06Speaker 10: the final score is twenty four to twenty eight to
- 42:08Speaker 10: nothing at halftime, and you just could see in the
- 42:11Speaker 10: second quarter of the Giants just were just defeated, like
- 42:14Speaker 10: they couldn't stop the run, and it just that I
- 42:18Speaker 10: think that hurts.
- 42:18Speaker 1: So what's the defense that you would call?
- 42:21Speaker 10: So they're the tricky thing is and like I give
- 42:24Speaker 10: Sirianni and that staff credit. They're really really good at
- 42:28Speaker 10: anticipating some of the different things that you do to
- 42:31Speaker 10: combat read option, and they have answers to all of it,
- 42:35Speaker 10: and they have a really good diverse read option package.
- 42:39Speaker 10: So it's I mean, it's difficult to stop. Like I
- 42:42Speaker 10: think at the end of the day, it's being the
- 42:45Speaker 10: more aggressive team and being the better tackling team. Like
- 42:47Speaker 10: I don't think that there's like a real x's and o's,
- 42:50Speaker 10: Like oh if you use this scheme or that sort
- 42:53Speaker 10: of thing, that it's gonna work because they have answers
- 42:55Speaker 10: to all those types of things.
- 42:56Speaker 1: So it's just beating your man and getting to the ball.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Yeah, but just in speaking generalist terms, would you go
- 43:02Speaker 6: generally heavy or generally lighter? You know, would you try
- 43:05Speaker 6: to kind of stack the box and really, you know,
- 43:07Speaker 6: try to say, all right, we're gonna tempt you to
- 43:10Speaker 6: throw down field or you know what do you say,
- 43:12Speaker 6: We're gonna try to at least maybe get some speed
- 43:14Speaker 6: on the field and try to deal with some of
- 43:15Speaker 6: the different Yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I just think Hurts is he's really good. Don't get
- 43:20Speaker 2: me wrong.
- 43:20Speaker 10: I'm not trying to say that he's just a running
- 43:22Speaker 10: quarterback or anything like that.
- 43:24Speaker 2: He's still really good.
- 43:25Speaker 10: When he doesn't have the bells and whistles, right, like,
- 43:28Speaker 10: no play action, no option, no motion like that, it's
- 43:32Speaker 10: just kind of play. But he's human, like, he's more
- 43:34Speaker 10: human in that phase of the game. So if you
- 43:37Speaker 10: can get him to have to actually go through a
- 43:40Speaker 10: full field progression and find it a completion on third
- 43:43Speaker 10: and nine, then you can get them off the field.
- 43:45Speaker 10: But if you're stuck in third and three, the entire
- 43:48Speaker 10: game against them. They have so many different options he
- 43:52Speaker 10: can run it, like, there's just so many different things
- 43:54Speaker 10: that they can do to beat you. And I think
- 43:56Speaker 10: in terms of like personnel, I think you have to
- 43:59Speaker 10: kind of go with a little bit of both. Like
- 44:01Speaker 10: I think the first level the defense should be your
- 44:04Speaker 10: heavy guys because you got to be able to take
- 44:06Speaker 10: on the blocks on the offensive line. But the second
- 44:09Speaker 10: level has got to be able to go sideline the
- 44:10Speaker 10: sideline because that's that's.
- 44:12Speaker 2: What they're going to do to you.
- 44:13Speaker 10: So yeah, whether it's the safety's down there, whether it's
- 44:18Speaker 10: a guy like Mapoo down there, whether I mean I
- 44:21Speaker 10: wouldn't put mac Wilson on the field, So you know,
- 44:23Speaker 10: one of those options I think is probably your best bet.
- 44:27Speaker 2: But the stuff that Evan's talking about is why I worry, Like,
- 44:30Speaker 2: I think they're going to run the ball. I think
- 44:32Speaker 2: that's what the Eagles do, and I think to expect
- 44:35Speaker 2: to shut them down is asking too much. I worry
- 44:38Speaker 2: about what Evan's talking about. It's, you know, it's not
- 44:42Speaker 2: even getting him into third down situations, and now they
- 44:44Speaker 2: can because they're ahead of the sticks all the time.
- 44:47Speaker 2: It taking shots to Smith and Brown and Brown in particular,
- 44:51Speaker 2: worries me because of his physicality. Now, I think DeVante
- 44:54Speaker 2: Smith is one of the more underrated guys, Like I
- 44:57Speaker 2: think he is really really with his route running and
- 45:01Speaker 2: all that stuff. I do too, But the physicality that
- 45:06Speaker 2: Brown provides against the smaller cornerbacks, you know, except for Gonzales,
- 45:13Speaker 2: he's the only one with any size and now you're
- 45:15Speaker 2: asking him in his first every game, I worry about
- 45:19Speaker 2: some big place.
- 45:20Speaker 10: Well, you gotta get a challenge. You got to get
- 45:22Speaker 10: a schedule. They're an on schedule offense. If they're on
- 45:25Speaker 10: schedule and they're ahead of the chains, do your your toast,
- 45:28Speaker 10: you're going to be the Giants would be roadkill.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Donni's in Pittsburgh. What's up, Donnie, donniey? Thanks for taking
- 45:38Speaker 1: Oh boy, I.
- 45:40Speaker 14: Just wanted to comment on the conversation earlier.
- 45:45Speaker 8: Indicated emergency.
- 45:48Speaker 14: I agree with you know, basically all the points you
- 45:50Speaker 14: guys made on the patriot side of that, and I
- 45:53Speaker 14: think the flip side of that coin was just what's
- 45:55Speaker 14: going on around the league. Like what Evan said with
- 45:57Speaker 14: the market with Kickers, you know you could get something
- 45:59Speaker 14: there because they're was a market. Uh you know, the
- 46:01Speaker 14: market with quarterbacks. I think the team looked at that
- 46:04Speaker 14: and said, there's there is risk there, but it's just
- 46:06Speaker 14: a lot less and we're comfortable making that move. You
- 46:08Speaker 14: had multiple teams releasing, you know, their third string or
- 46:12Speaker 14: even just declaring their starter and backup were throughout the
- 46:14Speaker 14: week before cutdown day, and a lot of teams who
- 46:17Speaker 14: just weren't looking for a backup or a practice squad quarterback,
- 46:21Speaker 14: you know, coupled with the ability of Zaby to turn
- 46:23Speaker 14: down those offers he got and ends up looking like
- 46:25Speaker 14: a pretty safe risk in retrospect, and they end up
- 46:28Speaker 14: with what they want at the end of the day.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's a good synopsis of the
- 46:34Speaker 1: situation the first Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 6: Yeah, we had an emergency you sort of give us.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Fred all worked out.
- 46:43Speaker 1: He just said it was a good risk to take
- 46:45Speaker 1: because of the backup market for quarterback.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Yeah. And I think more importantly, they didn't really mind
- 46:52Speaker 2: if they lost them. Yeah, that's why I think it's
- 46:54Speaker 2: a good risk. Yeah, like I I'm believing the reports
- 46:58Speaker 2: that they're looking for a backup quarterback right now. Yes, Yes,
- 47:03Speaker 2: what do you think? I agree, I think that's a
- 47:04Speaker 2: good risk to take. I agree with Donnie.
- 47:09Speaker 1: All right, thanks Donnie. Uh, let's go to Dominique in
- 47:12Speaker 1: New York. What's up, Dominique?
- 47:15Speaker 15: How you doing?
- 47:16Speaker 1: All right?
- 47:18Speaker 16: It's a quick question, and I'm curious about the wide
- 47:21Speaker 16: receiver group. So there's been a lot of speculation about
- 47:24Speaker 16: Juju Smith Schuster's need. You know, he says he's fine.
- 47:27Speaker 16: Others say, you know, he's not showing that exposure you know,
- 47:30Speaker 16: you you know, folks across you know, y'all team has
- 47:33Speaker 16: said he hasn't really popped during you know, training camp
- 47:35Speaker 16: and in the preseason as well. So I'm curious do
- 47:38Speaker 16: you think maybe it's a little bit midway through the season,
- 47:41Speaker 16: But do you see guys like Kendrick Bourne or even
- 47:43Speaker 16: to Mario Douglas taking less stats away from him, especially.
- 47:46Speaker 15: With Bill O'Brien who loves to use like those.
- 47:48Speaker 16: Two tight ends that do you think he might not
- 47:50Speaker 16: even be as much of a factor, you know, in
- 47:52Speaker 16: the offense, you know, compared to those guys, And do
- 47:55Speaker 16: you think those snapshares might go down a little bit.
- 47:58Speaker 16: That's a season where he's got to be still doesn't pop.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Like you know, it's possible.
- 48:03Speaker 5: It's a good question.
- 48:04Speaker 6: Is I think I think Bourne had a really good camp.
- 48:06Speaker 6: I think he's looked, you know, some of the best
- 48:08Speaker 6: I've seen him look since he got here. I'd probably
- 48:11Speaker 6: classify Juju as one of my disappointments of the summer.
- 48:14Speaker 6: I just never really saw much out of him. He
- 48:16Speaker 6: didn't do a lot, you know, there weren't a lot
- 48:18Speaker 6: of like notable moments. At least with Parker you got
- 48:20Speaker 6: some notable moments with with with Bourne, you certainly had
- 48:23Speaker 6: some notable moments, and the tight ends, you know, just
- 48:25Speaker 6: Juju was this didn't really move the needle at all
- 48:27Speaker 6: from me this summer.
- 48:27Speaker 5: So I really don't know what to play a lot
- 48:30Speaker 5: of I mean.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Up until last week, up until the final, we saw
- 48:33Speaker 1: all the practices. We saw what they saw in practice.
- 48:37Speaker 1: I don't see how what we saw you could say, oh,
- 48:40Speaker 1: this guy's gonna do this when it comes to the receivers, like,
- 48:44Speaker 1: I have no idea, and I don't think they do
- 48:46Speaker 1: with you right now.
- 48:46Speaker 5: I mean, it does seem like Parker and Juju are
- 48:48Speaker 5: the top two, you know, when there's two receivers on
- 48:51Speaker 5: the field, at least in camp, it seemed like those
- 48:53Speaker 5: are probably at least to begin with, the top two
- 48:55Speaker 5: guys out there.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Now the field that there'll be more three receivers than
- 48:59Speaker 2: two tight ends, a question Peah wrote.
- 49:01Speaker 6: I wrote that I wrote that today thinking about, well, yeah, I.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Know it's kind of hot to gauge because we were missing,
- 49:08Speaker 2: but what what is Gaiki? So I count him as
- 49:11Speaker 2: a tight end, so I think they do too. But
- 49:13Speaker 2: I would say at the same time, like they might
- 49:16Speaker 2: be in twelve technically, but Kasiki might be playing out
- 49:20Speaker 2: of the slot, and they might view that as kind
- 49:24Speaker 2: of a mix between twelve and eleven because like he's
- 49:26Speaker 2: not going to put his hand in the dirt block people.
- 49:28Speaker 2: I can see that. But my point is, I don't
- 49:31Speaker 2: like Gasiki is a good like option as a tight
- 49:34Speaker 2: end in the slot. Yes, he's not a good option
- 49:37Speaker 2: as a slot receiver in my opinion. So but if
- 49:39Speaker 2: he's I don't think he's treated here. I guess it
- 49:42Speaker 2: depends on how the defense treats him. Right, you might
- 49:44Speaker 2: get a matchup edge there.
- 49:46Speaker 10: So they're going to want the tight ends to run
- 49:49Speaker 10: the seam. We know that, and he's a good seam runner. Like,
- 49:52Speaker 10: he's still good at that. So I just wonder if
- 49:56Speaker 10: you know, if it's him in this in one Seam
- 49:58Speaker 10: and Gasiki and Henry and the there seem like how
- 50:01Speaker 10: are they gonna view that? Though, like I mean not
- 50:03Speaker 10: that they really care. I don't think if it's twelve eleven,
- 50:05Speaker 10: like what difference does it make? So I I don't
- 50:08Speaker 10: know how many like true three receiver sets we're gonna see, uh,
- 50:12Speaker 10: you know, like more like have that be way more
- 50:14Speaker 10: than twelve.
- 50:15Speaker 2: But you know, Gasiki is kind of his own.
- 50:17Speaker 5: I think there's some things like the question might just
- 50:19Speaker 5: be who's going to play more? Gasiki or Born? You
- 50:22Speaker 5: know like that that's probably where the difference.
- 50:25Speaker 2: I argue with Dominico. I think you're gonna see Born
- 50:28Speaker 2: as much as any of the receivers.
- 50:30Speaker 10: I think Bourne has a real chance to lead this
- 50:32Speaker 10: team in targets this year.
- 50:34Speaker 16: I do too, Yeah, yeah, thank you. And the last
- 50:38Speaker 16: point you mentioned it greatly, Devonte Juju. They're sort of
- 50:42Speaker 16: like the same receiver A lot of folks are, you know,
- 50:44Speaker 16: sort of the same type of receiver. So speed kills.
- 50:47Speaker 16: I'd rather get the past guys out there, you know,
- 50:49Speaker 16: you know, get open as quick as you can, you know,
- 50:51Speaker 16: give back a chance, especially if the offensive line is
- 50:53Speaker 16: then you know, you know, hould notes.
- 50:55Speaker 2: So unfortunately the fastest guy is hurt I mean speed wise.
- 50:59Speaker 6: I get the point, but I don't really see them
- 51:01Speaker 6: as the same receivers, and they're not. They play really
- 51:04Speaker 6: different roles.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I agree with you, Parker is a contested catch outside
- 51:09Speaker 2: the number of lamps, you know which which is a
- 51:12Speaker 2: slot receiver break tackles.
- 51:14Speaker 5: I guess that's what he is. That's what I've been
- 51:15Speaker 5: told he is. I haven't really seen that. Very cool, well,
- 51:20Speaker 5: just being honest, like, you know, that's what everybody.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Said with I don't even know what So what is
- 51:24Speaker 2: he like?
- 51:24Speaker 6: How would you describe him from what you you saw
- 51:26Speaker 6: from him this summer?
- 51:27Speaker 5: I don't know what the word.
- 51:28Speaker 2: The one thing that injured. I would describe him as
- 51:31Speaker 2: he's dealing with something because he's not running with my my.
- 51:35Speaker 10: Fear with him and that it takes me not to
- 51:37Speaker 10: compare Ju to Nikki Harry like in terms of remember
- 51:40Speaker 10: when they used to use Harry on like jet sweep?
- 51:48Speaker 2: What have you done to my staff?
- 51:51Speaker 10: But so my my only point with that is is that, like,
- 51:54Speaker 10: can we just have the faster people and the jet sweeps?
- 51:57Speaker 10: Like you know, you guys, you're born, you got pop Douglas, Like,
- 52:03Speaker 10: you got guys that have burst and have speed, like
- 52:05Speaker 10: I think Juju is a is gonna be good for
- 52:08Speaker 10: them because he's gonna do the dirty work.
- 52:10Speaker 2: He blocks, he goes over the middle, he.
- 52:12Speaker 10: Makes tough catches in traffic, He's got good hands, he's heady,
- 52:15Speaker 10: like he knows where to go in between zones and
- 52:17Speaker 10: things like that. But if you're asking him to like
- 52:20Speaker 10: take the ball and run away from people, like, I
- 52:22Speaker 10: don't think that that's really his game anymore.
- 52:24Speaker 6: And I should say, like I it might be, it
- 52:26Speaker 6: might all work out, like he might be pretty good,
- 52:28Speaker 6: like I just I just haven't seen it yet. Like,
- 52:29Speaker 6: and he's seems like the kind of player, especially where
- 52:32Speaker 6: physicality is an element of his game that we're gonna
- 52:34Speaker 6: get into games.
- 52:34Speaker 5: And I'll be like, Okay, I get it. He's a vet.
- 52:36Speaker 6: He's gonna turn it on now and he's gonna be productive.
- 52:38Speaker 6: But you know, just based on what we've seen, it
- 52:40Speaker 6: was like just kind of left under.
- 52:42Speaker 1: How much of the success of the offense do you
- 52:44Speaker 1: think is gonna be up to Mac seeing things at
- 52:47Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage And I.
- 52:49Speaker 5: Think Evan ran through all.
- 52:52Speaker 7: Yeah, that's if he doesn't see it.
- 52:54Speaker 9: He's gonna end up like Zappie in the last preseason game.
- 52:57Speaker 2: We're just like they want they's got to call this
- 53:00Speaker 2: guy's open. He's gotta do that.
- 53:01Speaker 10: They're gonna win by They're gonna try to win at
- 53:04Speaker 10: least by being a step ahead, Like, Okay, you're gonna
- 53:06Speaker 10: show us this look. We're gonna have two plays called
- 53:09Speaker 10: in the huddle. If it's this look, we're gonna go
- 53:11Speaker 10: with a run. If it's that look, we're gonna go
- 53:12Speaker 10: with the pass. Or it might be past pass run
- 53:14Speaker 10: run like it could. And they're just gonna they're gonna
- 53:17Speaker 10: put it all on Mac to go up there and
- 53:19Speaker 10: make the place.
- 53:19Speaker 6: I think the thing though, just last point, Evan and
- 53:21Speaker 6: I kind of talked about it, is like the problem
- 53:23Speaker 6: is with your offensive line is it's probably tempting the teams,
- 53:25Speaker 6: especially like the Eagles, to be like, we're just gonna
- 53:27Speaker 6: rush three because we think we can probably get there
- 53:29Speaker 6: with three and good luck figure out.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Imagine the blitzing the Eagles gonna do it. Blitz, no blitz,
- 53:34Speaker 2: the blitz the Eagles don't blitz. So that's especially in
- 53:39Speaker 2: this matchup with your defense.
- 53:41Speaker 6: Seven every time and you know, like, all right, then
- 53:43Speaker 6: maybe Bromandre gets looser, Elliott gets going, and then it's
- 53:46Speaker 6: the problem.
- 53:46Speaker 5: But until they prove they can block multiple multiple, you know,
- 53:50Speaker 5: I wouldn't send blitzing at all.
- 53:52Speaker 1: All right, Uh, Paul's foods here, So we'll take we'll
- 53:55Speaker 1: take a break.
- 53:56Speaker 2: We'll be right back.

- 55:00Speaker 13: There you go. All right, So once again we're gonna
- 55:03Speaker 13: start with some trivia three questions. Get them correctly, and

- 55:13Speaker 13: you win a Patriots Unfiltered T shirt and official we
- 55:18Speaker 13: got some. There are dupes, all right, so let's get
- 55:23Speaker 13: into I got some good ones today, guys.
- 55:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 55:25Speaker 13: Question one, what New England Patriot earned offensive Rookie of
- 55:30Speaker 13: the Year honors in nineteen ninety five? Don't answer that,
- 55:36Speaker 13: that's question one. Question two. In the two thousand and
- 55:40Speaker 13: eight opener, after Tom Brady got hurt, who did Matt
- 55:43Speaker 13: Castle throw his only touchdown in the game? Two for
- 55:47Speaker 13: that game? Who caught the only Matt Castle touchdown that game?
- 55:50Speaker 2: That's good one. Yeah, and here's.
- 55:51Speaker 13: The fun one. This one. This one could read some controversy.
- 55:55Speaker 13: When was the first time Tom Brady stopped wearing the
- 55:59Speaker 13: traditional Rydelle helmet and first wore a ride Dell speed
- 56:03Speaker 13: helmet in an NFL game?
- 56:05Speaker 2: Okay, those are.
- 56:06Speaker 13: Good, Evan, do you know that one?
- 56:09Speaker 2: I have a guess.
- 56:10Speaker 13: Okay, well don't answer it. You can you know what?
- 56:12Speaker 13: You can discuss it when the show goes back live
- 56:14Speaker 13: after the show.
- 56:14Speaker 19: Within the show, only the chronically online fans will know
- 56:17Speaker 19: that exactly.
- 56:18Speaker 13: So yes, answer. Send the answers to web radio at
- 56:21Speaker 13: patriots dot com before the end of this segment and
- 56:24Speaker 13: Fred will read your answers live on Unfiltered and the
- 56:26Speaker 13: winners we'll get a T shirt. But let's get to
- 56:29Speaker 13: what we're here for, Alex. Last week we talked about
- 56:33Speaker 13: NFL expansion teams that we are moves that we like
- 56:37Speaker 13: to see in the coming years, and we did domestic
- 56:41Speaker 13: and I think the big talk was Salt Lake City
- 56:43Speaker 13: in San Diego. But now we're talking international. So Evan,
- 56:48Speaker 13: welcome to the table. We'll start with you.
- 56:49Speaker 2: Wow.
- 56:50Speaker 13: Yeah, we're getting into this. What are some NFL expansions
- 56:53Speaker 13: teams you would like to see that are international?
- 56:56Speaker 10: So I feel like this is supposed to be a
- 56:58Speaker 10: little bit tongue in cheek and I'm gonna come at
- 57:00Speaker 10: it with like real possibilities. So I don't know which
- 57:03Speaker 10: one we're supposed to go in a discussion but I
- 57:06Speaker 10: think the two prime candidates are obviously one London, which
- 57:12Speaker 10: that seems like that's going to happen within at least
- 57:14Speaker 10: our lifetimes. Is not much much sooner than that. And
- 57:17Speaker 10: I got to give a shout out to our friends
- 57:19Speaker 10: in Frankfurt, Germany. Right, I mean like that has to
- 57:21Speaker 10: be an option too, and we would love to see that.
- 57:25Speaker 10: We're ready to go, so let's just make it a
- 57:27Speaker 10: regular thing.
- 57:28Speaker 13: I think it'd be awesome. I also have London on
- 57:30Speaker 13: my list, so Alex, I'll let you go next.
- 57:31Speaker 19: I didn't have London really, I had two others, Germany included.
- 57:35Speaker 18: Germany just seems like the most no brainer to me.
- 57:38Speaker 19: I know, we've been in London a long time, but
- 57:40Speaker 19: back when NFL Europe was the thing, when it was
- 57:43Speaker 19: all said and done, five of the six.
- 57:45Speaker 18: Teams were all in Germany.
- 57:47Speaker 19: I've seen the social media numbers, I've seen the marketing
- 57:50Speaker 19: that we do there. It's clearly a proven market already.
- 57:53Speaker 19: We haven't even played a game there, and I mean
- 57:56Speaker 19: those people love football very clear. Germany seems like no
- 58:01Speaker 19: Europe's right there.
- 58:03Speaker 13: Yep, all right, rip it, do it mind right for this,
- 58:07Speaker 13: I have London. I think Toronto needs a team that
- 58:11Speaker 13: is good one. I I personally.
- 58:13Speaker 18: Think that Canada is represented in every other major.
- 58:16Speaker 10: Well, so you say domestic versus like I you don't
- 58:20Speaker 10: even really think of Canada.
- 58:22Speaker 13: That's a good person. The Bills used to play some
- 58:24Speaker 13: games there. I think if the Bills didn't have Josh
- 58:28Speaker 13: Allen in the past couple of years, they would already
- 58:30Speaker 13: be there. There's no way they're building that new stadium
- 58:32Speaker 13: in Buffalo, like unless the team was winning. I think
- 58:35Speaker 13: Josh Allen save to move to the other side of
- 58:38Speaker 13: we were talking about before we started recording. You automatically
- 58:40Speaker 13: got Drake there. That's going to be a crazy backup. Like,
- 58:44Speaker 13: I just think it'd be used from the six.
- 58:46Speaker 18: Yeah, I think the Toronto Ovo Owls.
- 58:48Speaker 13: Toronto Owls. There you go. So those are good. That's
- 58:52Speaker 13: my my go to city. But here's here's a better question. Logistically,
- 58:57Speaker 13: how did this work?
- 58:58Speaker 2: All? Right?
- 58:58Speaker 13: Like I read an article the day that said, do
- 59:01Speaker 13: you just make a whole new division in Europe and
- 59:03Speaker 13: just make four teams and just go and then you
- 59:05Speaker 13: got four teams already in Europe and you like can
- 59:08Speaker 13: work the schedule easy. I just don't see how you
- 59:10Speaker 13: could have like one team in London and then like
- 59:12Speaker 13: how it worked with schedules and stuff like that just
- 59:14Speaker 13: seems kind of difficult and like.
- 59:16Speaker 19: How are you choose like you're so then you're forced
- 59:18Speaker 19: to do really probably all European teams, I don't know.
- 59:21Speaker 18: I think leaving out Brazil.
- 59:22Speaker 19: Brazil is my second yep, that's another huge football market.
- 59:26Speaker 2: Yeah, they love football.
- 59:27Speaker 13: I have shout out to Patriots Brazil. Check them out,
- 59:29Speaker 13: we go.
- 59:30Speaker 19: They tweeted when Pele passed away. We tweeted something about
- 59:34Speaker 19: Pele and Portuguese.
- 59:36Speaker 18: I can't believe the numbers that social media posted and it's.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Just like she's got the data. We didn't have any data.
- 59:43Speaker 18: Some correct boys.
- 59:44Speaker 10: But like we also have to give Mexico City a
- 59:47Speaker 10: shout out, right, I mean, and Martine and Patriots Espanol. Right,
- 59:51Speaker 10: So that's another option. But in terms of the logistics,
- 59:54Speaker 10: Canada is obviously the easy one. That's it in every
- 59:57Speaker 10: sport league other than the NFL. So can that's easy.
- 1:00:02Speaker 10: London nowadays, I mean, was that like a six hour flight.
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: It's not terrible. It's basically the same as it's going
- 1:00:07Speaker 10: to California. California team is twelve twelve, So I think
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: that would be you would have to if you added
- 1:00:17Speaker 10: that team, then clearly they would have to be in
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: the either the AFC or NFC East, and then you
- 1:00:21Speaker 10: would have to somehow make their schedule just to the
- 1:00:26Speaker 10: East Coast and maybe it's a bye week for if
- 1:00:29Speaker 10: you're West Coast team, it has to go out there,
- 1:00:31Speaker 10: you get the bye week right after.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Maybe that.
- 1:00:33Speaker 13: It's just like it's so crazy Thursday.
- 1:00:35Speaker 18: Night football game you're going to London to play.
- 1:00:37Speaker 13: That's exactly. And then you got to think about the
- 1:00:39Speaker 13: players too, like if you could stagger it and be like,
- 1:00:41Speaker 13: all right, you're getting six away games in a row,
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: well that's not fair, Like you can't have a six
- 1:00:45Speaker 13: game homestand so it's just there's got to be a.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Way to do it.
- 1:00:48Speaker 13: And I'm not sure what it is yet, but as
- 1:00:49Speaker 13: Evan said, I wouldn't be surprised in ten years there's
- 1:00:52Speaker 13: a team.
- 1:00:53Speaker 19: From a labor perspective, how do you even organize? I
- 1:00:56Speaker 19: don't know if this is even a CBA thing, but
- 1:00:59Speaker 19: just like giving these guys like insurance, like if you're
- 1:01:03Speaker 19: in another country where laws are completely different than here,
- 1:01:07Speaker 19: health insurance like there's so many random factors being taxed,
- 1:01:11Speaker 19: like how are you taxed?
- 1:01:12Speaker 13: Yeah, and then you got the game paid and pounds
- 1:01:17Speaker 13: that too.
- 1:01:17Speaker 10: But if you're so, if you play a game, if
- 1:01:19Speaker 10: you play for NFL London, but you play a game
- 1:01:22Speaker 10: in the US, is your game check taxed in the US?
- 1:01:25Speaker 10: I think that that's how it would work, because that's
- 1:01:27Speaker 10: how it works. Your game check is taxing the state
- 1:01:30Speaker 10: that you played the game in. Yeah here anyways, So
- 1:01:32Speaker 10: I would think that that that would be how it works.
- 1:01:35Speaker 13: As I said, there's got to be a way to
- 1:01:37Speaker 13: do it, and that is for people that make way
- 1:01:38Speaker 13: more money than.
- 1:01:39Speaker 19: Made It would have been done already if there was,
- 1:01:41Speaker 19: like if there was a viable way to this.
- 1:01:44Speaker 13: I mean, well, if you if you like watch the
- 1:01:45Speaker 13: Pat McAfee show or any other podcast with players who
- 1:01:48Speaker 13: have done the game, like they kind of hate it.
- 1:01:51Speaker 13: It sucks, there's a lot of traveling.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:53Speaker 10: Well, I just think that it's more and more realistic
- 1:01:57Speaker 10: to do it now because of how nice the charters
- 1:02:00Speaker 10: are and how how just well taken care of teams
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: are on the road. I feel like, you know, ten, fifteen,
- 1:02:10Speaker 10: twenty years ago and you're it may have been pretty significant.
- 1:02:14Speaker 10: But now I feel like maybe they have the planes
- 1:02:17Speaker 10: and the travel times are getting a little less and
- 1:02:20Speaker 10: less all the time with the new technology. Maybe maybe
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: it's easier now.
- 1:02:24Speaker 13: I don't know, who knows. I think once again, Canada
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: would probably be the easiest. That could just be a team.
- 1:02:30Speaker 18: You can just pop them into the AFC.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Yes, that you can make that work.
- 1:02:34Speaker 13: But it just seems like Europe was where where like
- 1:02:38Speaker 13: the next big thing is gonna happen. We got the Germany.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Games, that's where the money is.
- 1:02:41Speaker 13: The money is there. London's been a knockout every single time.
- 1:02:45Speaker 13: So I don't know. But Brazil, Brazil be interesting. I
- 1:02:49Speaker 13: think it's there, you know, Pionate, I mean, could you.
- 1:02:52Speaker 19: Could you imagine the party like it would be the
- 1:02:54Speaker 19: tailgates about Carnival and the biggest.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Like and the super Ball the right time of year.
- 1:03:02Speaker 19: But well for them, it kind of if we ever
- 1:03:05Speaker 19: played a game in Brazil, that's what it would be.
- 1:03:08Speaker 13: I wouldn't be I could see I could see a
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: game in Brazil soon, And I think, don't the Dolphins
- 1:03:13Speaker 13: have them as a home market.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I think you're right like that that would make sense.
- 1:03:17Speaker 13: Yeah, I could see that.
- 1:03:18Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:03:19Speaker 13: So let's let's here's the bad question. What do you
- 1:03:25Speaker 13: what do you think would happen first a US team
- 1:03:28Speaker 13: or an international team. Let's go back to last week,
- 1:03:30Speaker 13: like in terms of expansion expansion.
- 1:03:33Speaker 18: I would say US or Canada.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'd say US or Canada. I think that.
- 1:03:39Speaker 10: So you mentioned San Diego. Salt Lake City is a
- 1:03:43Speaker 10: good one.
- 1:03:43Speaker 13: Didn't think of that.
- 1:03:45Speaker 19: I was just going last week for places I selfishly
- 1:03:47Speaker 19: wanted to.
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: Especially said Montana Jackson hole.
- 1:03:52Speaker 18: That wasn't outlandis and Salt Lake City was more.
- 1:03:55Speaker 10: What are the chances that that they put a team
- 1:03:57Speaker 10: back in Saint Louis.
- 1:03:58Speaker 19: I mean, that's what we talked about, Saint Louis and
- 1:04:01Speaker 19: San Diego.
- 1:04:01Speaker 18: Just give them teams, batter.
- 1:04:03Speaker 13: Right, I think give them Saint Louis XFL. They've been
- 1:04:07Speaker 13: crushing it. They've had like sold out games for Saint Louis.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: So, yeah, one of my good.
- 1:04:11Speaker 19: Friends was born in Saint Louis. He's a diehard. He
- 1:04:14Speaker 19: was a diehard RAMS fan. He's like a poor lost soul.
- 1:04:16Speaker 13: Now, all right, guys, that brings an end to the
- 1:04:20Speaker 13: show within a show. So I hope you liked the discussion.
- 1:04:23Speaker 13: Once again. Hope you guys answered some of the trivia questions.
- 1:04:27Speaker 13: Fred will read those out louder and you know, maybe
- 1:04:29Speaker 13: Evan Willson sing out current Evans be back on air
- 1:04:33Speaker 13: once again. We hope you liked it. Game Back to
- 1:04:36Speaker 13: Patriots Unfiltered. Also, if you have any ideas or topics
- 1:04:38Speaker 13: he wants to discuss, feel free to email those into
- 1:04:41Speaker 13: the web box as well. But let's get back to Unfiltered.

- 1:05:01Speaker 2: And now great moments in history. There will not be
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: vicious attacks on Bill O'Brien drop them. I disagree. I
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: think he's under a lot of pressure.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: This offense looks but this year the way it did
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: last year, I think people will be here with pitchforks
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: and torches for who, for the for Bill Belichick, Bill O'Brien,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: and for Mac Jones.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: We'll see it's good.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: We'll see what they have for see what they have
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: for weapons.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: You got to divvy it up.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: It's it's tough. How Teflon Mack if he if he
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: if they have the same cast of characters back on offense.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: You gotta get him, Jama Chase.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: He keeps saying Teflon Mack, and I still hear on
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: his shows the people who call in are at least
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: fifty to fifty on that subject that Max's not the
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: guy minute.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I hear that all the time. Are you comparing like
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: the calls, Yeah, the callers, Okay.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: The fans, the people who spend the money to come
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: to the game.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: That's not a cross section of the people. The people
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: who call those shows, yeah, or almost entirely negative. Okay, Well,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: how are you talking to? You talking about the media people,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: the people who cover the dam I'm gonna have a
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: round table in my living room. You can come. We're
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: going to talk about Matt. Who else are you listening
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: to about this? I don't I got about the media.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: This is not hard to understand. I'm not talking about
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: the media. Like Tom Curran said, you could trade Mac
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Jones over Robert Craft's dead body two days ago, right, like,
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: so he's accomplished so much, you know that we can't
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: even broach the topic that if someone came to the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Patriots looking to deal for Max Jones, we can't even listen. Again,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: I don't care what the media says. Okay, well, that's
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: the only talking about the paying public. Okay, Well, you
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: have no way of knowing what the paying public thinks.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I do when they call in the show that is
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: over the top negativity fred on Sports Radio. Come on,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: I'm saying it's fifty to fifty. It's not over the top.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: It's over the top negativity for the most part. The
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: hosts are.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: About five minutes later.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: I gotta be on.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: I gotta find these Max super fans. I don't I
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: don't haven't seen. I don't seen a lot of them.
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: They're not allowed allowed it.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Well, he thinks that everybody is a Max super fan.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Teflon Mack, he called him. Okay, I'm not talking about fans.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: I don't know why you keep bringing up fans. I'm
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: talking with the people who cover the team. I know,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: But who can can you name me one guy who
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: covers the team that thinks that they should move on
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: from Mac Jones.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: I'd have to look, I'd have to look at my notes.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: All right, and I found one. Yeah, who Joe Murray?
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Joe Murray, Joe Murray like like ZAPPI, all right, we're
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: back one the show.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Within the show gave away some things. There were trivia
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: questions people won. George Huffnagel won what New England Patriot
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: earned offensive Rookie of the Year honors in nineteen ninety five.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: The answer was Curtis Martin. George Huffnagel won What did
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: he win? But he's won?
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Johnny, you won a brand new page.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: It's on filter T's right.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: And then Ben Bradley won a shirt in the two
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: thousand and eight opener after Tom Brady got hurt. Who
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: did Matt Castle throw his only touchdown too in that game?
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: The answer was Randy Moss and Ben Bradley got that right.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: The third question no one has got the right answer
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: to yet.
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: Right, there's been answers, but none of who still open.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: We'll take I guess we'll take his answer.
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: No, no, I I let me give a slight clue.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: It was included in the top twelve Brady video.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: Though, Okay, we'll take the will take answers to the
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: end of the show, just emailing at webradio Pictures dot com.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: The question is, when was the first time Tom Brady
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: wore the Rye Dell speed helmet in an NFL game?
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: Looked weird? Was striking? You're like, why this looks too
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: big on him? What's going on?
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Because for years he he was one of the last
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: people to change helmets.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Remember, he liked his helmet.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: This was only a brief, a brief, little foray into
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: the alternative helmet universe for Tom. I know in twenty
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: twelve he didn't like Seattle. He wore kind of the
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: more modern one a little, but the one that he
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: ended up wearing at the end.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: So anyway, that will take those questions. So no, congratulations
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: to George Huffnagel and Ben Bradley for winning T shirts.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: And that was the show within a show, And now
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: we're back to the show that's out of the show, the.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: Actual show, the actual show, the halftime show.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Also thanks to vip Strippers for thank you very much,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Thank you very much, appreciate that it's.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Good yea delicious our handy leftovers.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: We had our crystall, we had our caveat bought a table. Yea,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: but thank you. A lot of emails coming in, a
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: lot of emails. But let's take the phone calls. Let's
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: go to Josh and Dallas. He's been holding on.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: What's up? Josh?
- 1:09:43Speaker 20: Hey everyone, thanks to taking my call. I just had
- 1:09:46Speaker 20: a quick question and then just a little bit a
- 1:09:48Speaker 20: little statement for you guys for your picks this year.
- 1:09:53Speaker 20: But my question is, I just want to know if
- 1:09:54Speaker 20: you guys had any maybe potential surprise captains this year.
- 1:09:59Speaker 20: With mccordy or tiring and that slot being opened, I
- 1:10:02Speaker 20: thought maybe an unconventional one could be Zeke just being outspoken,
- 1:10:07Speaker 20: having had some experience with the Cowboys, as well as
- 1:10:12Speaker 20: just a lot of offensive, younger offensive players and self
- 1:10:16Speaker 20: admitted more quiet composed guys, and so he could just
- 1:10:20Speaker 20: be a big personality in the locker room in a
- 1:10:23Speaker 20: good way. And then my statement about the picks this
- 1:10:27Speaker 20: year is, I know Freddy's always had the feel for
- 1:10:29Speaker 20: the league, but I think with Paul's win last year,
- 1:10:32Speaker 20: I think he might have earned the right this year
- 1:10:34Speaker 20: to say that he's got the feel for the league.
- 1:10:36Speaker 20: So at least to me, he's paula feel for the
- 1:10:38Speaker 20: league for a low.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Wow, Yeah, I've lost my field.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Yeah you know, I'm sort of, you know, kind of
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: tied to the Patriots. So if they're not doing well,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: I'm not doing well, right, you know what I mean.
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: See, that's that's how I am too. Like it's just like,
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: I mean, it sounds stupid, but like having more here
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: for four.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Odd games and he loses the pick contest because of seventeen.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: Of them been here four years.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: I think when they win it, I don't mean I
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: don't mean like how their record is.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: I mean like overall, like you know, the state of
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: the team is a reflection on me.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: So yeah, with some podoco.
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: That's why, Well you're enjoying then the final phases of
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: now you're just getting like you don't know yet, you're
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: kind of in the unknown.
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: You don't know how you're gonna be doing a couple
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: of weeks.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: But hey, let's go, I would just say in response
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: to his captain question, Adrian Phillips seems like kind of
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: the guy breaking down the huddle sometimes before the game.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: I throw peppers in there to two guys. They feel
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: like I'm pretty vocal this summer.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Speaking of predictions. Uh, Tim our friend from duncan up.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: If you hear these things in the background, don't not
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: in danger.
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: Yeah, so just just a drill.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I'll plow through that, Tim says. Yesterday afternoon, Mike Felger
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: asked Paul, if everything goes well for the Patriots, what
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: is the ceiling on wins? I believe Paul said it
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: was either six or seven wins, and very few are
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: really picking anything higher.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Wrong, wrong, that's wrong. I didn't say six wins. I
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: said seven or eight. You said seven or eight. There's
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: a huge difference between six and eight.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Okay, So if everything goes right, the ceiling is seven
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: or eight.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think about eight eight wins. I could see that. Wow.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's like if to me, if everything goes right,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: it's ten, that's the ceiling.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Okay, so's too off.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: You know, and and I'm including there like there's a
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: slight drop off for the bills and Aaron Rodgers doesn't
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: do well.
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: Well, that's everything going right right, exactly right.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I would agree that involves everything going right. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I totally agree with that, And so I don't kill
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: you for that. I think that's that's a rational You're
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: down on the Patriot ten wins. Is everything going right?
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I think that's a rational pick.
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: Yeah, so sure, everyone's clombing onto your seven. Paul, that's
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: the problem you mentioned you said the words.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: I said seven or eight is what I said. I
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: never said six now, and I do think there's a
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: difference because I think six is like bare minimum, So
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: that's the war as well. Five or six is the floor? Yeah?
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: Like I think you know, if you have the Colts,
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: if things don't go right, what's the floor five or six? Oh?
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Really? See, I think it's less than that. If things
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: don't go right, it.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: Could go no, because I think you have the Saints,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: the Colts, the Commanders. I look at these games as
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: games that they you know, you really shouldn't lose.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: You mentioned three, the Raiders, Broncos.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: I don't put the Broncos in that category.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Now, Yeah, I think the floor could be four.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: Okay, friend's down on the pageot, you know what I mean. Like,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: but that's right, I'm being sarcastic. But like you make
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: you sort of look at things, and you look at
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: things one way. You have four to ten. I have
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: it more like six to eight. Like Mike might happen. Okay, okay,
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: so everybody's kind of in the same ballpark, don't you think.
- 1:13:55Speaker 6: Yeah, if things go right generally No, No, in general, yeah,
- 1:13:59Speaker 6: in general, the gap in general, I haven't.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Heard anybody say more than ten.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: We do have a winner, so you can stop sending
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: in emails for the last trivia question. The winner is
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Kevin and Dublin, Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: I know, back back in the off before before camp started,
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: before the offseason unfolded, there were some people talking about
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: twelve thirteen wins, but I have not to Tom Current,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: but I have not heard.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: See he includes the media in these people.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Okay, Fred, all due respect. I really don't care what
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Joe the Plumber has for a pick.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: See, I don't like he died.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: Like people who watched the league watch the team and
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: analyze what they've seen. Like you can dismiss their opinions too,
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: but their opinions are a little bit more valuable than
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: just some random fan who just wants the team to
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: win and that's what he's picked some random I want
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: to know what, well, you don't know the zeitgeist from
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: listening to ninety eight five.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: You get a cross section and you don't get across it.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: It's not just because I look at social media.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's even worse.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Well, I mean, where else is he gonna if you're
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: gonna go out on these people that are worth listening to.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: If it's not social media, it's not the radio, I mean,
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: where do you go? This is what I'm talking about,
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: analysts people. He's so obsessed with the media.
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: Why am I obsessed with it? I'm talking about having
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: a prediction for a team. I know, but like you
- 1:15:24Speaker 6: can so much, I don't care about it. I'm telling you,
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: I care more about someone who's paid to give me
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: an opinion on a sport than I do someone who
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: watches it casually. Like I'm sorry, I don't really think
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: that's that's controversial.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: As a take. Well, like I have my my neighbor
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: who every day go so, yeah, what what do you
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: think this year?
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: They they got a chance for the Super Bowl, Like
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: that's what I'm expecting from from fans they watched they
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: hope that's you know how we were talking about, Like
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: when you go into training camp, I'm excited. I have hope.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: You would have hope. These better fans the exactly these.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Betting spreads and these overrunners that come out either during
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: the season or before the season, they get set by
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the betting houses, but then they are and what they
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: end up being is dictated by who the betting.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Public, the fans. Not necessarily the case. But we'll continue,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: not the media, not the media. You'll continue to go
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: down that road. So okay, So is is Vegas down
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: on the Patriots? Then yes, okay. Bridgetone as long as
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: you're consistent.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Bridgetone is the official tire of the New England Patriots
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: and proud partner with Sullivan Tire, New England's headquarters for
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: quality Bridgetone Tires. Visit sullivantire dot com to find the
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: location near you.
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: Got some new rookie numbers, Paul, Do you want to
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: announce them? Should?
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: I say? You can? Go right ahead?
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: So Gonzale switched to six bearingers switch.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Wait wait, wait, six six six. That's not what is
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: gonna do.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: That's a terrible number.
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: Not zero six six is a terrible That's why.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: They treated Nick Folk to get number four. Bearinger nine
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: to seventeen, Ryland thirty eight to thirty seven, and the
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: Big one City. So sixty one to sixty two. Big
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: switch there.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: I gotta go sixty two.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: You know this. You can call me a fraud.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: And you can. You're a fraud.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Shoot me right between the eyes for even caring. But
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: six six, that's six super Bowls. That's a bad number.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Why is it bad?
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: It's just yeah, give me.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: One great player? Who was number six?
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: I don't know, Okay, Hopkins, the Hopkins were six?
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Hopkins?
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: Who DeAndre Hopkins?
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: No?
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Ten?
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: Ten?
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: What about in any sport any six six that were good?
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: Bill Russell, Oh that's a big, big one. But yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: but that's not commonly a good number.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: It's not a good football number.
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: Yeah, not a good anything number.
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: Sixteen though, that's you put it one in front of
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: sixteen is good?
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Six? But I heard.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm giving away any secret you
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: wanted zero. I wonder if they wouldn't let them, And
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: I wonder if that's not yet been approved by the league.
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: Yeah, that's just not approved by the I.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Wonder if it hasn't been approved by William Belichick too much.
- 1:18:14Speaker 8: Sixes are Bill Russell, Julius Irving, and Lebron James.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Those are pretty three pretty good sixes.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: None of which played football, which is the only sport
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: I'm talking about yet again, the one that I'm paid
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: to cover. I have an opinion on.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Okay, do top sixes in NFL Todd's in North Carolina,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: what's up to?
- 1:18:36Speaker 21: Well, my my base for this year is probably two
- 1:18:38Speaker 21: wins because I think if things go sideways, they're going
- 1:18:40Speaker 21: to go sideways pretty hard. But I think that there's
- 1:18:44Speaker 21: a chance at ten if they really get everything together
- 1:18:46Speaker 21: and they you know, the offense clicks and everything along.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Those lines, and the other teams fall apart.
- 1:18:52Speaker 21: Extending from that, well, yeah, exactly, Paul, that's part of
- 1:18:54Speaker 21: everything going around.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: That's why I agree with Fred kind of depend on that.
- 1:18:58Speaker 21: Two quick questions, how is this offense going to work?
- 1:19:02Speaker 21: Is it going to pass to run or run to
- 1:19:04Speaker 21: pass type thing that? And then if this, if this
- 1:19:07Speaker 21: offense does go sideways at the end of the year,
- 1:19:09Speaker 21: who's going to be blamed? It's going to be Mac
- 1:19:12Speaker 21: would be Bill O'Brien maybe, or is it going to
- 1:19:14Speaker 21: be Bill the GM slash I think yeah, that's.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: Going to get the biggest piece of the thanks for
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: the car.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I think Bill will get the biggest slice.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Bill Belichick, Yes, I agree, no doubt. Then Bill O'Brien,
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: then Mack.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Now then I think Mac.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, there's a lot of pressure on
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: Bill O'Brien.
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I don't really know about the run pass thing.
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: I just I just wonder what they feel more comfortable
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: with with with the offensive line right now, Like how
- 1:19:36Speaker 6: do they feel about the two separate like, how do
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: we feel about our run game?
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: How do we feel about our pass protection?
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: What do you think the break these guys roughly percentage
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: wise run pass sixty to forty pass, I would say
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: in that neighborhood, I think they're I mean, I think
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: they're going to be forced to pass.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: They're going to be closer to fifty five forty five.
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: I think probably they'd like it to But I mean,
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: I think based on how the game is going to.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: Go, but a lot I mean you pass to run
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: or run to pass.
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't really know what that means.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I like always they'll have a lot of short,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: high percentage passes that will substitute for the running game.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: They got to get the ball out quickly.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: And you know, I again, I I sound like a
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: you know, broken record here, but they got to get away.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: From being easy to defend, trying to give you the coming,
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: And I don't know how they're going to do that
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: unless they stretch that field a little bit, because right now,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: let's just play near the line of scrimmage.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Let's crowd that box.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: And well, I mean, and and if they can beat
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: us that way, then they're going to have to prove it.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: And the other part of that is, I feel like
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: and it's going to be happening a lot starting a
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: week from Sunday. It's going to be uh first in
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: ten from about the thirteen yard line, and I'm gonna
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: look at you guys and go here comes a fade
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: to DeVante Parker.
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: Because that's like.
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: They're one play that's like, oh yeah, I mean, I
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: just that that's like one. It's like that, And like
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: the little checkdowns to Remandre and the little hitches on
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: the outside, like those things were such a feature, along
- 1:21:06Speaker 6: with the chuck it up to DeVante and hope he
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: comes down with it. That I mean, I just if
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: I was playing NFL defense against the.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: Patriots, that's the alert, alert Parker one on the outside.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: They're going to him on top.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Let's go to Anthony in Seattle.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: What's up, Anthony, twelve and five.
- 1:21:24Speaker 22: We're gonna split with the Bills, We're gonna sweep the Jets.
- 1:21:27Speaker 22: We're gonna shock the world to win the whole thing.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:21:30Speaker 22: I haven't waivered.
- 1:21:31Speaker 15: I called it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 22: I'm sticking with it. The only time I put it
- 1:21:34Speaker 22: on pause was when the Jack Jones News came out
- 1:21:37Speaker 22: because I said, hey, you know, I had a vision.
- 1:21:39Speaker 22: It looks like my visions ain't gonna you know, my
- 1:21:42Speaker 22: defense is gonna break down, But it looks like that
- 1:21:44Speaker 22: defense is still fully intact. And I got a vision,
- 1:21:47Speaker 22: and that's what it's gonna be.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Twelve and five on the same page.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Anthony, if you're right, twelve and five, you can buy
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: us lunch.
- 1:21:54Speaker 22: All right, all right, and listen, I'll tell I'll take
- 1:21:56Speaker 22: my lump. If I'm wrong, I'll call in but the same.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: But if you're wrong, you can buy us on the
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: same thing. Apply.
- 1:22:02Speaker 22: What I don't want to happen on this show, though,
- 1:22:04Speaker 22: is once this train starts rolling, I don't want to
- 1:22:06Speaker 22: hear anybody saying, well, nobody saw this coming, okay here,
- 1:22:09Speaker 22: nobody except Anthony got it.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: You got it, mark it down market to take your
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: lumps if it doesn't act it happening.
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: Like I said, like this, that's what that's a good fan.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: That's what fans are for. Like, that's what fans do.
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: Like if you if you're a fan and you love
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: the team and you can't go into the season with
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: some optimism, why are you doing it to the media?
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: I mean, Anthony should think that doesn't it doesn't It
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: kind of frustrate you when you kind of have national
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: guys chime in about things that they know nothing about.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Like, you know, like to Mario Douglas is going to
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: be a breakout star?
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah? Or Peter Schrager, well in his earlier Schrager's.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: Earlier when he had this summer was Malie Cunningham has
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: been the breakhudster. You said Malie cunning him a couple
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: of weeks ago, And I'm like, you know, sometimes he's
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: like they just they get that, you know, and I think,
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: you know, fans unfortunately get it. I I certainly did
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: when I was a fan. You get these little you know,
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: nuggets and you kind of run with it and it
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: suddenly becomes all right, Malie cunning him out a.
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: Nice practice too. He's lightened up practice.
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: And you know, it's just I feel like the national
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: people sometimes have so much to keep Maia and then
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: they weigh in and it's like, yeah, but not really guy.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: You know That's why if the minutia for the national guys,
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: for team to team, it's hard. I don't necessarily put
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: as much stock in, but.
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: Those ones get what I do know.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: But like, I think that the National guys understand which
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: teams because they talk to people and they know which
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: teams are more talented than others and that kind of thing. Now,
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: they might not know exactly why the Patriots are going
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: to be better offensively from a personnel standpoint, but they
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: they know that they're going to be better offensively because
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: of what they're hearing and what they're they're talking about
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: and what they're talking to people about. Now what that
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: translates to who knows?
- 1:23:49Speaker 5: Who knows?
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: How about let's go to Florida Phillips and Florida Phillip.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: How you doing. I did you escape see the hurricane?
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I said that was fit.
- 1:24:01Speaker 23: Yeah, I'm doing terrific and the hurricane was on the
- 1:24:03Speaker 23: other side.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Of the fake Okay, good.
- 1:24:08Speaker 23: Well, I want mister Perillo to know that I am
- 1:24:10Speaker 23: a very enthusiastic, but I'm very enthusiastic about my pick.
- 1:24:16Speaker 23: Do you remember the years when when they had plunk
- 1:24:19Speaker 23: it and no offensive learning.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: No, that's way before my time.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Do you remember that he does Jim he's playing coy
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: When Jim Plunk was the Patriot's quarterback.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: I was two.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: I don't remember with twenty two.
- 1:24:36Speaker 23: Go take a look at the film, because the poor
- 1:24:40Speaker 23: guy never stood a chance. And I see the exact
- 1:24:43Speaker 23: same thing happening this year, and I think they'll be
- 1:24:46Speaker 23: lucky to win six games.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Okay, the only thing, Philip, let me just say one thing,
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: like on the on the positive side of that, I
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: agree with you've seen so far, that's what it looks like.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: I don't think that you need to worry that the
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: offensive line that you've seen so far is gonna be
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: what they're going to go and go to the regular
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: season with. They're going to be cold, strange, Michael, when
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: you at the very minimum, those two are going to
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: be in that lineup and you're going to have a
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: different tackle because whether it's Calvin Anderson or one of
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: the new guys, someone else is gonna play that you
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: haven't really seen play yet. So I do think there's
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: a chance that it's a lot better in the regular
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: season that it's been in the summer.
- 1:25:28Speaker 23: Well, I was thinking the same thing that I thought
- 1:25:30Speaker 23: they could rid of Strange.
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, they didn't get rid of Chasing Hines.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Not strange, that a little more hope. Yeah, I don't
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: think the offense. I mean, listen, the offensive line is
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: by no means like a sure thing. It's the biggest
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: question mark on offense for sure. But it will be
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: better than what you saw in the summer because the
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: personnel is better and it'll be healthier.
- 1:25:54Speaker 23: All right, John Hand or Leon Grave.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: No, now those guys I did play, Thanks for the call.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Who did the Patriots get, you know, for draft picks
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: as a result of that trade to the Raiders for Plunket?
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Didn't they get Hannah as a result of that?
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: Jeez?
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: No, First of all, they traded plunk At to San Francisco.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: Oh they I believe it was. And then you were
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: two years old, I believe, no, no, no, when Plunkett got traded.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: Now we're talking seventy six, that's the first year that
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: I can sort of remember watching some games. Okay, Okay,
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: I was eight and I went to my first first game.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: It was a Monday night game that year. But when
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: Plunkett was getting killed by the offensive line, that's like,
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: that's even before Fred's time.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, But when they traded Plunket, who who did the
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Patriots end up getting in.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: The I believe it was Mike Haynes.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Right, if you could throw me a media guy out,
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: something happened, I want to say Mike Haynes, Tim Fox,
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: and Pete Brockt.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: They were three They got three first round picks.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Right, and they were all good players for a long
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: time on.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: The team, right, and I think they may have gotten
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: Ike four a too, who didn't pan out as umm.
- 1:27:02Speaker 8: Al right, I see two nineteen seventy six first round
- 1:27:05Speaker 8: draft picks, one seventy seven first round pick, oh Ray
- 1:27:08Speaker 8: Claiborn second round pick, and quarterback Tom Owen.
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: Okay, so do you know who they picked?
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: No, you're right, it was Fox. What year was Rock
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: and Mike Haynes.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: I'm looking right, what year was this? Seventy six, seventy
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: six and seventy seven draft?
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: All right, I got it, I got yeah.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: All right, while you're looking that up.
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: To seventy six first rounders two I got it right here,
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: seventy six first rounders, twelve and twenty one.
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: I'll get to who they picked. After drafting future Hall of.
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: Fame cornerback Mike Haynes with their own pick, the team
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: selected center Pete Brock in safety Tim Fox with San Francis.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: Okay, so I had so Haines wasn't part of that,
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: wasn't part of this? So it was.
- 1:27:50Speaker 6: And then in the following year they team selected raining
- 1:27:53Speaker 6: Clayborn with the forty nine ers first round.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Okay, so it was Clayborn, Fox in Brock and I
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: think they had a second rounder Hooris Ivory. I had
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: the wrong jag running back.
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: The one final Tom Owen.
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a backup quarter in four years is about
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: all right.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Kyle from Pembroke writes in I just want to say
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: thank you for the amazing work you do. After listening
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: to national shows like First Things First and Undisputed Make
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: a mountain out of a mohill that was Belichick waving
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Zappi and cunning him, I've gained even more respect for
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: the hard work that you guys and the other local
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: shows do in preparation to give us accurate reports and
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: well educated opinions.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: I guess the question to.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Go along with this would be, besides the quarterbacks and
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: running backs, were there any surprises in the final roster?
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: I mean, I think we talked a little mere speed,
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: a little bit of a surprise, but no, I think
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: they went pretty pretty bare bones. I mean it's other
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: than speed and maybe Sean Wade.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: How many missus did you have in your last one?
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: I didn't do it up the other one, but I
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: think I had four misses.
- 1:28:54Speaker 10: I had probably quite a few because I did mine
- 1:28:57Speaker 10: before Pierstrong was traded and before the tackles came in,
- 1:29:01Speaker 10: and but you know, like we're talking about before all
- 1:29:04Speaker 10: the you know, I see a lot of people out there.
- 1:29:06Speaker 10: I only had two misses. It's like, well, you did
- 1:29:08Speaker 10: it on Monday, after Pierre. It's like after they after
- 1:29:12Speaker 10: they made all these trades, you updated your roster projection,
- 1:29:16Speaker 10: Like I could have.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Done the same thing. Yeah, And I was like, wait
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: a second, Like, how could I have been better? Yeah?
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: How could I know more? We're talking about the same person.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: Oh, I shoot, you're not you know exactly what.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: We're talking about.
- 1:29:31Speaker 10: We'll tell you off the air. Okay, we're trying not to.
- 1:29:34Speaker 10: They make fun of too many people, and.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: There's still thirty one minutes swating the show. There's a
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: pretty good chance I'll say it, but I.
- 1:29:39Speaker 10: Want to hear Fred's uh Patrick Brady thing we were
- 1:29:43Speaker 10: at practice.
- 1:29:44Speaker 24: I don't know, Oh my god, my goodness.
- 1:30:03Speaker 10: All right, all right, Well, the Patriots had very similar
- 1:30:08Speaker 10: attendance to yesterday. So the absences were Taekwon, Thornton, Riley Reef,
- 1:30:13Speaker 10: DeVante Parker, and one new absence, no James Ferrence. So
- 1:30:17Speaker 10: practice squad James ference now, but no James Ferrence. So
- 1:30:21Speaker 10: those are your four guys that weren't a practice in
- 1:30:23Speaker 10: stadium practice today out on the game field, and they
- 1:30:26Speaker 10: were in blue and white scrimmage jerseys, so probably a
- 1:30:31Speaker 10: procedural practice. They weren't in pad, so it's not like
- 1:30:34Speaker 10: they're going all out scrimmage style. So I would assume
- 1:30:37Speaker 10: that they're doing you know, sideline and like substitutions, and
- 1:30:41Speaker 10: that's why they're in the stadium, and that's why they're
- 1:30:42Speaker 10: in the stadium. So that's actually when we get the
- 1:30:44Speaker 10: in stadium Yes, similar to the in stadium practice.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: But you know, if I was built like probably between
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: now and the Eagles game, we're gonna get different kinds
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: of weather. Might rain one day, they'll be win one day.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I would have Rylan in there every day, kicking for
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: every change of weather that I could do.
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: Why do I have the feeling that Fred is gonna
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: mock me so bad when like poor Chad Ryland goes
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: out and miss a field, He's gonna the difference is
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: to kill me. He's gonna kill me.
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: What Fred? He doesn't need that?
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Well, I know why why?
- 1:31:20Speaker 7: Because he's played football in places with really bad weather.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: No, not, it's how does the how does this stadium
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: affect the wind?
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Right? Well, I think that's why it's not.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: But how in this stadium with the new because Bill
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: knew like with the old stadium, Okay, when it's windy,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I know this is what's going to happen.
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: But this stadium he doesn't know yet. Yeah.
- 1:31:43Speaker 10: The stadium scoreboard is you can tell just standing on
- 1:31:48Speaker 10: the field how much less windy it is because all
- 1:31:52Speaker 10: of us have stood on the field from countless times
- 1:31:54Speaker 10: and it's it's usually pretty windy, regardless of if it's
- 1:31:57Speaker 10: really that windy outside. Because it was the open horseshoe
- 1:31:59Speaker 10: and the wind would funnel in. With that scoreboard, there's
- 1:32:02Speaker 10: not a whole lot of wind out there anymore.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Bill said there was a huge difference last year because
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: that's when that school board was up. You know, obviously
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: it's just operational now, but he said there was a
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: big difference between years past and last year. Yeah.
- 1:32:15Speaker 7: I will say one thing I do like about him
- 1:32:16Speaker 7: is that he's played in Michigan.
- 1:32:20Speaker 9: And he's also played Maryland.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: He's from Ohio State.
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: Like he's He's played in places where the weather is
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: not great. It's not like he was a kicker at
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: University of Florida, like he has actually played in places where.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: The weather is But part of the home field advantage
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: is knowing the tendencies of your stadium, you know, knowing.
- 1:32:37Speaker 10: Because Maryland for some reasons in the Big Ten, so
- 1:32:40Speaker 10: they played Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State. Yeah, I still
- 1:32:45Speaker 10: can't figure out.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: But Penn State and plus didn't he he started at
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: Eastern Michigan, right, Yeah, so obviously he had some bad weather.
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: Would you think it gets awest in six?
- 1:32:55Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm upset about it would have been better than zero.
- 1:32:57Speaker 10: No, Bill Russell I go look some and someone else
- 1:33:01Speaker 10: can ask the question. But I do, I do wonder
- 1:33:03Speaker 10: like a zero, just not in circulation, like guest, like
- 1:33:07Speaker 10: nobody gets zero.
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: Too flashy, don't like it, barely wanted to give Parker one.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Just calling attention to yourself when you get zero.
- 1:33:15Speaker 10: Yeah, oh god, the first round pick who might actually
- 1:33:18Speaker 10: be good at football draws attention to himself zero.
- 1:33:20Speaker 8: By the way, the top ranked number six in the NFL,
- 1:33:23Speaker 8: J Cutler, who boy.
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: Is, thank you very much?
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: And there it is. Well it wasn't. I mean, it
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: wasn't Nick Folk number six.
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: So we talked, he's banking highly in the time, all right,
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: So I just said that there's no one's ever been good.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: So Pep and the Deuce did their top twelve Tom
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Brady moments. Uh, we're getting ready for Tom Brady Day here,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: and so for the next twelve days, every day we'll
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: have a different type of Tom Brady content, not the
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: usual stuff. There'll be some other, you know, offbeat type
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: of Brady content, but we'll introduce different things leading up
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: to the game on September tenth. And so they did
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: the top twelve moments, which I thought was great. Everybody
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: loved it people.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: That saw it.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: It's doing very well, it's doing really well. But what
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: if we did it again, I do it a little differently.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: I would really get granular with the moment, like not
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: the you know, not a game, but it could be
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: a moment within any game won or loss that you
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: remember Brady four. You know, one of the first ones
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: that came to mind was the irlocker when he deeked
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: out you know Arlocker that like, that's a moment, Like,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: I love that you had this one as a moment.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: But the Brady the Brown overtime in Miami, that was
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: a great that that play was a moment for.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: Me, one of my earliest football memories.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Sorry, I think Paul can help me there. I don't
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: know if this is one or three. But in Buffalo, Brady, no,
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Brad right, Brady got actually absolutely whack, got his helmet
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: knocked off and got up and gave the first down.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: No, when the helmet got knocked off, Yeah he did
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: not get up and no, no, no, no.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: No, Yeah he made a first down gesture.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: No he didn't. We gotta look, we gotta get the tape.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: Let's get the tape.
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll get the tape.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I mean, it wasn't immediate, but he I know, I
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: know the moment you're talking. Yeah, he got up and
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: made the first down gesture.
- 1:35:17Speaker 10: The one he on the like that was kind of
- 1:35:19Speaker 10: bledsoe ish on the sideline that he was.
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: In the field of play.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: It wasn't on the sideline, Oh no, it was absolutely
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: and he knocked his helmet off.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: And you know, maybe I'm thinking of a different play.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: You know, you could be thinking of a different play maybe, Yeah,
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: so maybe we could both be right.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: This was this was like you knows as you look
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: at in the in the Bill's press box, it was
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: going right to left and was probably on the New
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: England thirty year yard line where he got hit.
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: I can picture the hit, I just can't. I can't
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: picture the immediate aftermath of it.
- 1:35:48Speaker 10: I do remember, because Bill's fans love to circulate that
- 1:35:51Speaker 10: for some reason, like he didn't pick their ass for
- 1:35:53Speaker 10: twenty years.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: But yeah, okay, I have I have video of it,
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: but it doesn't go long enough. But I don't think
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: that you're right.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Okay, Anyway, Brady kneeling down a Richard Sherman.
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: Track, that was the one I was getting ready to
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: see it.
- 1:36:06Speaker 6: That was a moment, right, we got it, and like
- 1:36:09Speaker 6: after Sherman has talked you know so much, you mad
- 1:36:11Speaker 6: bro and all that stuff, and you know, respected Sherman
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: and the legion of Boom. But like that moment where
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: he reached down and Brady was sitting there with like
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: thinking like that was just the finally like we got
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: number four.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: Yeah I did. The Bills fans love to put that.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: One out there.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he may have been knocked up. I don't think
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: he was doing first.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: You know, and most people Brady with his hands over
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the head after the one Super Bowl, that was like
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: a moment that everyone.
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: Looking at his sisters I think was like shaking.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: It's not really high on this.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: The post game everybody thinks we suck when he said.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: That against the Chargers. Yeah, and then you had.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: You know the Moss, Remember the Moss, the past of
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: Moss that broke two records in one.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: That was a moment, I tell you, guys said that one.
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: We did part of the game, yeah, part of the games.
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: But there were definitely some of those moments. I'm sure
- 1:37:03Speaker 6: you could go through all those games and find a
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: moment that you although I don't really know what would
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: you say for Atlanta for the Super Bowl fifty one,
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: A lot of people were like, hey, that should have
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: been number one, which I which I respect, but I
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: don't really I don't know if I had a Brady moment.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: There was a Brady moment there.
- 1:37:17Speaker 10: I mean, there was a bunch of them, but yeah,
- 1:37:18Speaker 10: because that single one Doleman catch is almost an interception,
- 1:37:21Speaker 10: so I don't really wouldn't give that to Brady.
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: Yeah, right right. I looked at that, and obviously a
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: lot of people disagree, but I looked at that much different.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: Like to me, the Seattle Super Bowl and the Kansas
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: City AFC Championship, like those were the Patriots just taking
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: it from the other team as opposed to the other
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: team capitulating.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, But do you guys have any other
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: like just moments that come to mind when you think Brady.
- 1:37:48Speaker 10: And well, I mean, I don't know if this I
- 1:37:50Speaker 10: didn't watch the whole thing, full disclosure, but KEMBERL. Tompkins
- 1:37:55Speaker 10: in thirteen is still like that was.
- 1:37:57Speaker 11: Like number eleven of them they got you didn't make it,
- 1:38:00Speaker 11: didn't make it too in that that one is to me, like,
- 1:38:03Speaker 11: if you're talking about moments, no, I watched the teaser
- 1:38:08Speaker 11: that we put out.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: Do we do this, Like that's what I was going
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: to ask, because yeah, you know, I haven't had a
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: chance to give one of the people that was part
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: of it, But do we put like is it numbers?
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: Is it going all at once? Aren't there going individual? Yeah? Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: so like we haven't gotten that far yet. Yeah.
- 1:38:26Speaker 10: I really did that in the call. And then obviously
- 1:38:30Speaker 10: the Red Sox winning that day too, Like that Boston
- 1:38:32Speaker 10: Sports Day was just like iconic. That was or teases
- 1:38:36Speaker 10: Grand Slam in Game six, So that's like that, that
- 1:38:39Speaker 10: whole day was just.
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: This one might be more of a picture slash video moment,
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: but there's a shot of Brady coming out of the
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: tunnel in Super Bowl forty two to start the game,
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: and it's just a shot that has always stuck with
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: me of, you know what, they were on the verge
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: to go up again, you know, not knowing what the
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: outcome is going to be. But I don't know, it's
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: not really a moment, but it was kind of the
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: last moment of that team where they kind of came
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: out full firepower.
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: Here we go for the Super Bowl. We know what
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: happened but that that one for me too.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: We saw a clip, Oh I know, I just did
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: the sar a clip of the sorry the Kembrell Tompkins one,
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: and I mean I was like they are all we
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: all sorry, Like it was an unbelievable throw, but like
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: just to see if I'm like again, from like two
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: or three different angles, it was ridiculous.
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: Well, they asked Brady, there's a video, but but Brady
- 1:39:29Speaker 6: didn't even really know. He said that was a blown coverage.
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: He said that one was more about them screwing up.
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: And I think I think it was Jabbari Greer for
- 1:39:37Speaker 6: the Saints. He miss timed his job, Like I know
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: what Brady's talking about. But the throw was ridiculous.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: The one every time, and that's the one he counts right,
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: that's like.
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's the one like the defensive back like
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: you don't even realize he caught the ball because it
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: was just so perfectly like the d beaks like he's
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: got it, Like you didn't know that.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: In flag football, when you when you coach your kid
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: and you know what, I to give me his name,
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: but there's always that kid that like you throw you
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: could throw one hundred balls to him when you're practicing,
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: he ain't gonna catch a one. But every once in
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: a while you throw one and it hits him like
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: he didn't have to move his hands. It goes right in.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: That's the look the Brandon Leafel catch. You couldn't drop
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: little Johnny could.
- 1:40:17Speaker 10: We'll do it for you. We'll put it right on you.
- 1:40:19Speaker 10: We're gonna make this so you can't drop it. Well,
- 1:40:21Speaker 10: so Brandon Lefel. Brady gives Brandon Lafel a lot of
- 1:40:24Speaker 10: credit for the catch because it.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: Was not easy, but he put it.
- 1:40:27Speaker 10: Because his arm I think is one of his hands
- 1:40:29Speaker 10: arms was getting held by the defender. But I I
- 1:40:33Speaker 10: just the Tompkins Camber. Tompkins won just like who he
- 1:40:37Speaker 10: did it with, Like he's just like driving down the
- 1:40:39Speaker 10: field with like Austin Colley and the other part.
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: Like people forget like the clock, Like how many times
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: have you watched an NFL game and you see teams
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: like they're gonna give you chunks here, Yeah, but you
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: know what we're gonna get you around the twenty twenty five.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: You're only gonna have time for one or two plays.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: They never score. And that was what that was like.
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: There was like ten seconds left. Yeah, and they had
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: to get it in. That was just an.
- 1:41:02Speaker 10: Incredible that that like moment because they hadn't won the
- 1:41:04Speaker 10: fourth Super Bowl yet and they had a tough season
- 1:41:07Speaker 10: like in twenty thirteen with all the injuries and things
- 1:41:09Speaker 10: like that, and like like Peyton Manny couldn't Patriots. Peyton
- 1:41:13Speaker 10: Manner boy could never like he could never go down
- 1:41:16Speaker 10: the field with Kemberl. Tompkins and Austin Colly and Aaron Dobson.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: I know that, I know this was intentional. I know
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: no intentional, but he actually did do it with Austin Collin.
- 1:41:28Speaker 10: Yeah, when Austin Colly was decent, before he was concussed, before.
- 1:41:32Speaker 25: He was Pete the waiter right when we always when
- 1:41:38Speaker 25: we joke, you know, like they always say, like Belichick
- 1:41:41Speaker 25: will say, oh, like Johnny from Foxborough High, that was
- 1:41:44Speaker 25: literally Johnny from Foxborough High.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I agree, I agree, that was Johnny from Foxboro.
- 1:41:49Speaker 7: Hi.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: Peyton man did that with Johnny for Foxborough. No, he
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: had graduation. He didn't do it. He didn't do it
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: in the in the Super Bowl with Johnny from Foxboro
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: like like Brady did.
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: Uh nine Buffalo first game back missed all of eight
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: the Ben Watson like just that little bad that night,
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: but when he had to have it like too, you know,
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: and there was a terrible but Bills carrying the kickoff
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: or turnout and then fumble him where.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: He was Lootis McKelvin.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: Yeah, Otis mcklevin. What a name, Fred, But that was
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: but that was that was a moment too.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Pat new Hampshire says, I love the top twelve Brady
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: moments from Paul and Duce. Hard to argue with the list,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: but I wanted to share my favorite Brady moment. Twenty
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: eleven AFC Championship Game, fourth quarter, down by four points,
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: fourth and goal from the six inch line, and Brady
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: takes a snap, reaches the ball over the goal line
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: as fast as a short stop, turning a double play.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: The Ravens had no chance to stop him, but Brady
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: paid the price with a vicious hit from ray Lewis
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: that almost broke Brady in two. It ended up being
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: the game winning touchdown, capped off with an f you
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: spike in the end zone.
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: Miss uh, I remember that I must get hit. I
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: do remember that.
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I must have interpreted what you're saying, so no,
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: they're all together. So it's like a sixteen seventeen minute show.
- 1:43:04Speaker 10: Oh yeah, it's like, why I should I hadn't got
- 1:43:06Speaker 10: through the whole thing, and when I saw it, I'm like,
- 1:43:08Speaker 10: for that, we should have we should have packaged.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: It that half hours. You know.
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: What I was thinking, Fred is if we wanted to
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: just like pad it a little bit, we could just
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: do some highlights of some of the games that just
- 1:43:17Speaker 6: missed and just put some voice over so we don't
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: really have to shoot new stuff. We could just be like, yeah,
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: oh six sandyea. They could add an like five minutes
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: and do it so you get maybe for.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: The full show, maybe some interviews with people who were
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: involved or something.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: Like that, you know.
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: Somebody.
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: Uh but somebody tweeted me that they liked it and
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: they were like, oh, we should do ones for Gronk
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: and Edelman, and I thought that.
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: I'm like, and I'm like, I could picture the Gronk ones.
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: So the Gronk ones would be fun. Like there's a
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: lot of just.
- 1:43:39Speaker 10: Like crazy because Washington when he's carrying like six guys Broncos,
- 1:43:44Speaker 10: the Broncos Broncos catch Yeah, even the first I don't
- 1:43:48Speaker 10: know if it was the first preseason game, but against
- 1:43:50Speaker 10: the ROMs here and he like dragged three guys into
- 1:43:52Speaker 10: the end zone as a rookie, and you're like this right.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: Right underneath, Yeah, theen zone, right underneath the press must
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: and now let's see.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Anthony says the exact moment when Butler intercepted the pass
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl and Brady went crazy with Josh.
- 1:44:05Speaker 10: That was my I was gonna say Michael Gervadi, despite
- 1:44:11Speaker 10: his best efforts, Jimmy Garoppolo could not get involved in
- 1:44:14Speaker 10: the celebration.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: Brady was like, you go over there.
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: Stevie says when Brady raises the trophy and yells, we're
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: bringing this sucker home from the Atlanta super Bowl.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: I remember that I did the braid, fairness, I don't
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: remember half of these. Him with his hands on his head.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: I have that on a on a.
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: Poster, shaking his head. Yeah that was because I do
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: think he said he was looking at his his sisters
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: at that.
- 1:44:36Speaker 10: So I think that that like when the statue happens,
- 1:44:39Speaker 10: that's in the running. I think for what the that.
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: That's another segment.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: It's like if and when there's a Brady statue, what
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: should be the pose?
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Well, I just take him that classic pose standing in
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: the post. Yeah, that's beautifybody to throw a pass.
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: I always I always really like the.
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: Guy in nineteen fifty Darryl Lamarnica.
- 1:44:58Speaker 9: Wait, like the one on the back of the Yeah.
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: I always really liked.
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: And this would be if you did if you did
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: them together. But there's a really good shot right after
- 1:45:07Speaker 6: that San Diego winning O six of Tom and Bill
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: like kind of giving each other the handshake with.
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: This like little grin on him. I like, you know
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: that that that would make.
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: The list for me if you were considered maybe doing
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: both of them at the same time.
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: That was always a good show. That's a game that
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: you know how the Kansas City game has thought thought of,
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: you know, like that game should be thought in that
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: kind of a light, but it's not because they didn't
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: win it all.
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: Yeah. Well I brought it up on the show when
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: we did it.
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: I mean, you know, I talked many times about being
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: at that game and it was one of the coolest,
- 1:45:32Speaker 6: you know, experiences in my life.
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: But you know, when you really look back, it was
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: it was that in Kansas City.
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: But the only are those the only two road playoff
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: upset wins that they had and because otherwise they were
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: pretty much playing at home.
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Right, Well, I lost all the playoff games on the road.
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: Right Yeah, those are the only two wins.
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: That I can't think. I can't think of it.
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: Lost to Denver, lost at Denver three times.
- 1:45:52Speaker 10: Yeah, the champ Bailey lost to Denver was at first
- 1:45:55Speaker 10: my first Patriot heartbreak.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: That was tough.
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: That's the that's the one that I just didn't have
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: at that and I think they were just out of gas,
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: like the third year in a row, trying to go
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: deep in the playoffs.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: I just they didn't have it that night.
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: They were close, though, like because they were champions, like
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: to beat them. That was that was a touchback. And
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: I'll stand by that.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: But even if it was like it doesn't really like,
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: don't put context. It was a touch yeah. I mean
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: I've never seen a replay that shows it definitively. But
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: I know Patriots fans will go to their their graves think, well,
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: they're right, you know, and maybe we can have a
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: big sale and we can put some cameras on them.
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: The goal that's what built that's that that elicited the
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: the first one that was the first time to the
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: dots look as.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Uh eight five five pats five hundred. Shawn's in Connecticut.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: What's up, Sean, Sean? Sean Sean is gone?
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: Christian in LA? What's up Christian?
- 1:46:54Speaker 15: Here you guys doing today?
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: Hey Christian?
- 1:46:57Speaker 15: Okay? So my choice for the Brady statue would be
- 1:47:02Speaker 15: the face he makes Jeff Afne he said, let's go.
- 1:47:05Speaker 15: You know, that kind of Brady yell that he does.
- 1:47:09Speaker 15: My favorite Brady game would be the Brady's back game
- 1:47:13Speaker 15: against the Saints when he wins with the last last
- 1:47:16Speaker 15: second throw into the corner.
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: Of the end zone.
- 1:47:18Speaker 15: And then I'll have two actual questions, and could you
- 1:47:22Speaker 15: guys please answer both questions? You always answer one question anyway.
- 1:47:27Speaker 15: What do you guys think the odds are that once
- 1:47:30Speaker 15: Coach Belichick sets down that, assuming that we do well
- 1:47:34Speaker 15: this year and beyond that, Bill O'Brien inherits the team.
- 1:47:38Speaker 15: Or is it more likely that Josh somehow finds its
- 1:47:41Speaker 15: way back into the folds and inherits the team? That
- 1:47:44Speaker 15: question one.
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: Less likely that Josh, what about Mayo? Yeah?
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: What about Mayo?
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: Mayo? Yeah?
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: You do.
- 1:47:56Speaker 15: Having fact to him and I don't know.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: I don't think Josh, I don't think Josh either.
- 1:48:00Speaker 15: Yeah, you think he had a champ to come?
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: After all, I didn't say he didn't have a chance.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: I don't. I would put his chances behind those other two. Yeah, okay, yeah?
- 1:48:08Speaker 14: Cool?
- 1:48:09Speaker 15: And then football question, assuming both Kayshawn Bousse and Mario
- 1:48:15Speaker 15: Douglas do exceedingly well and the other receivers hold their own,
- 1:48:19Speaker 15: do we have to cut someone to bring Pikwon Thornton
- 1:48:24Speaker 15: back or is that the purpose of him starting the
- 1:48:26Speaker 15: year on the injured reserve list?
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: You don't you have eleven offensive lineman. My guess is
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: at least two will go. Probably by week two, at
- 1:48:37Speaker 6: least two of those guys will be gone.
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: That's what maybe even three?
- 1:48:41Speaker 5: Yeah, Thornton's out four weeks, right.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: He's out four weeks. By that time that Thornton's ready
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: to come back, the offensive line is going to be
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: back to a normal number.
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: Or other people who have gotten hurt.
- 1:48:50Speaker 6: I don't think the bottle will open up playing playing
- 1:48:52Speaker 6: time though, might be might be an interesting debate how
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: those guys does.
- 1:48:56Speaker 15: He replaced in the in the game flow.
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: Fift back and not be not be active for a while.
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: I named it if they if they're really good. If
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: if your scenario unfolds, then they may just leave them
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: on ir right, we're.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: Talking about to do that, like what if what if?
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: I mean it's a hypothetical, don't have a question, No, no,
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: I'm just trying what if?
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: What if? To Mario Douglas and to a lesser extent,
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Kaysehan Boody, you know, proved to be really productive fourth options,
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: you know, fourth to fifth options. You know, I don't
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: think it's a foregone conclusion that Thornton just gets activated
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: when he's when he's ready.
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: But if you you don't really have much going maybe
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: Douglas has contributed a little bit, but Booty hasn't, and
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: you know it's from Parker.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: Maybe cut one of them to put them on the
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: practice squad at that point, you know, if if that's
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: where you want to go, or you could just have
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: them be inactive on game day. Like I said, I
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: think the offensive line is where there's too many bodies.
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: Overly optimistic that this would be the case, but I
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: could say along these lines, like it could be kind
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: of hard for Taekwon to crack the lineup when he
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: gets back and healthy. If things were to go particularly
- 1:50:02Speaker 6: well with with some of these young guys.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: So I'll ask you this question, because you killed my
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: buzz on Tuesday about map sure, are you prepared to
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: kill my buzz on Douglas too?
- 1:50:11Speaker 21: No?
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: Oh no, no no.
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: I don't think he's gonna be. I don't think he'll be.
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: I think he's you are on MAPU with Douglas.
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: Well, I I mean I was just my My Douglas
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: thing is. I think he's the you know, he's the
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: third and long slot receiver. Like you know, he'll he'll
- 1:50:24Speaker 6: get you know, with like Danny Amandola towards the end
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: like that, you know, not a big role, but he'll
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: come out and you know, and we need somebody quick
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: and inside we'll we'll swap juju for him. Maybe it
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: may be more, but I I don't have that high hopes.
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: But I just still think he's unique and he he
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: provides more of a unique presence than Thornton does.
- 1:50:39Speaker 10: Like Thornton, it's like just but he's already like I
- 1:50:41Speaker 10: can get over. I love Da Mario Douglas like I like,
- 1:50:44Speaker 10: I think he can get open. I think he's gonna
- 1:50:46Speaker 10: be exactly what's just described. But he's already hurt and
- 1:50:49Speaker 10: like he's tall, he's small, like and he's already hurt.
- 1:50:51Speaker 10: It's the same thing that we're dealing with Taekwon.
- 1:50:53Speaker 9: Like it's in a weird way.
- 1:50:55Speaker 7: I feel like if the wide receivers all do well
- 1:50:57Speaker 7: with Taekwan not playing, I could see him like potentially
- 1:51:00Speaker 7: being traded next year and just being like.
- 1:51:02Speaker 10: Oh yeah, I mean I think traded or but it
- 1:51:04Speaker 10: is definitely a possibility going into year three. But I
- 1:51:08Speaker 10: think the only way that Taekwon gets on the field
- 1:51:10Speaker 10: is if they really feel like, all right, him running
- 1:51:13Speaker 10: down the field and maybe taking the safety with him
- 1:51:16Speaker 10: that is going to open up this, this and this,
- 1:51:18Speaker 10: and like we don't really have that out there right now.
- 1:51:21Speaker 10: And if they feel like that's a problem is that
- 1:51:24Speaker 10: they're so condensed and they do need somebody that can
- 1:51:26Speaker 10: get down the field and maybe maybe he has a
- 1:51:29Speaker 10: role doing that. But I but the coaching thing, I well,
- 1:51:33Speaker 10: what are the odds, Like you know, we always throw
- 1:51:35Speaker 10: out Bill O'Brien, Girod Mayo, Josh, Like.
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: I think the odds are that it's none of those
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: that would be my best set to someone we don't know.
- 1:51:42Speaker 10: So I the thing that I've like sort of felt
- 1:51:45Speaker 10: always is like I think mister Craft's going to want
- 1:51:48Speaker 10: to make a splash higher. I don't think that he's
- 1:51:51Speaker 10: going to want to just like take girod Mayo and
- 1:51:53Speaker 10: make him the head coach. Because if you lose Bill Belichick,
- 1:51:55Speaker 10: whether it's to retirement or or you know, you know,
- 1:51:58Speaker 10: because they part ways or whatever, like you can't just
- 1:52:01Speaker 10: yeah candied over to like some you know, the.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: Next guy in line or anything.
- 1:52:05Speaker 10: I wonder if there's like somebody out there that's like
- 1:52:08Speaker 10: a big.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: Splash on Peyton y.
- 1:52:11Speaker 10: Yeah, like you know, I mean, look at his two
- 1:52:13Speaker 10: head coaches as the owner, it's Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: Like you don't get much bigger. I mean, I know
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: Pete was in there too, but don't forget about. But
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: in fairness, that's that is three Hall of Fame coaches right,
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: like you're not talking about it. Didn't hire Parcels and
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: Pete Carroll wasn't hired as a big splash higher. No,
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: you know really Belichick wasn't either, But that's kind of
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: I'm with it. I think the.
- 1:52:38Speaker 10: Field is what I would pick. I just wonder if
- 1:52:41Speaker 10: it's like a big college coach.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: Comes free or so while we're talking about this, do
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: you think that the next coach has the keys to
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: the kingdom? You know, is he given full control?
- 1:52:53Speaker 7: I think they need to hire a GM and head coach.
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: Well, it depends on who hiring Gerd Mayo. Then I
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: have to have a GM. Yeah, would be Macro or
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: someone like that, you know. But if I'm hiring someone
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: outside the organization.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: What do you think Robert Craft would would prefer a
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: high you know, a big name coach.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: Who will think all the control, or.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Somebody who you know, maybe not proven yet but has
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: a lot of potential, really smart, you.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: Give them a GM.
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: I think the my preference would be to have a
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: one stop shop, that one guy who could do it
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: both ideally, because it's just it's less communication. It's easier
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: to get on the same page with with someone when
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: they're managing both the personnel and the coaching, and you
- 1:53:35Speaker 6: know they're picking the players that they want to coach.
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: But you got to give it to someone who it's hard, Yeah, it's.
- 1:53:40Speaker 7: And it's a big I also feel like you run
- 1:53:42Speaker 7: into an issue when you have someone doing both because
- 1:53:44Speaker 7: then they're so stubborn and you end up in a
- 1:53:46Speaker 7: situation where like this person is not evolving and like.
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: They're too too married to the picks because they're their picks.
- 1:53:52Speaker 7: Yeah, and they're two marriage doing things their own way,
- 1:53:54Speaker 7: and like.
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: I could imagine something like that happens.
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:53:57Speaker 10: I just think it takes a really good relation chip
- 1:54:00Speaker 10: to split the atom as the head coach and the GM.
- 1:54:03Speaker 10: Like there's not a ton of teams that I can
- 1:54:07Speaker 10: think of, Like I guess, like, you know, Pittsburgh with
- 1:54:10Speaker 10: Tom Win and Colbert for years, like that was a
- 1:54:12Speaker 10: really good pairing, you know, the chiefs. Now I've read
- 1:54:14Speaker 10: and Beach and that that's worked out. Carolyn Schneider, Yeah,
- 1:54:18Speaker 10: Carolyn Schneier is a good one too. Well they've like
- 1:54:21Speaker 10: cooled off recently, but yeah they were good. Yeah, that's
- 1:54:24Speaker 10: a good one too. But I think, you know, you
- 1:54:26Speaker 10: really have to have, like to Mike's point, two guys
- 1:54:29Speaker 10: that have the same vision. Well yeah, and the second
- 1:54:31Speaker 10: that those visions counteract each other, then the whole thing.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: Is mister coach has final say, like real final say
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: that I think you could work.
- 1:54:39Speaker 6: I just think vrabel and and John Robinson kind of
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: an interesting you know, like two guys who came through
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: a full system.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: You think they were on the same page.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: And then Robinson and these guys all have like alpha egos.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: You know it. It's hard, you know. It's when things
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: are going right, everything's great. But the minute things don't
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: go right, fingers start to be pointed.
- 1:54:59Speaker 10: It's a good I also what he would like. I
- 1:55:02Speaker 10: don't want a defensive coach. Again, I don't either, Sorry, kidd.
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world, says,
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: can we have a button on the Brady statue that
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: when you press it, a tape recorder with Fred's impression
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: of your honor speech comes on?
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: Yeah? I think that would be a nice touch.
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: Who's honor?
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: Yeah, do the whole thing like you asking who's I
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: and me saying who's there? Who's honor? Your honor, your
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: family's honor.
- 1:55:29Speaker 9: Why have I never.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: Heard the whole thing?
- 1:55:30Speaker 14: Oh?
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: Have you heard the real one? It sounds just like that.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Well, that's a perfectly it's a perfect persons. It is
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: not your family is honored. It is. Brady's voice tends
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: to go up. It's not.
- 1:55:43Speaker 9: It's kind of like Buddy's voice is.
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: Go back to that Buffalo Game The Hope. When he
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: came back off the Tony c was like that.
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: Was in Yeah, I guess. I guess.
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: Patrick Mahomes like every time he's talking, I have to
- 1:55:59Speaker 7: Kermit the frog.
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: He sounds like Kermit, he does.
- 1:56:02Speaker 6: I watched that Quarterback Show made like Patrick Mahomes a
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: lot more. I still don't really care for his lady,
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: but she was all right on the show. Like I
- 1:56:08Speaker 6: don't know, it just shows them as people, and you like,
- 1:56:10Speaker 6: I feel like you do have your random hatred. Well,
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: she's not that she no, no, not, she earned it.
- 1:56:18Speaker 9: She earned it. But I do think somewhere bo to her.
- 1:56:20Speaker 7: I do think someone talked, he did someone to her
- 1:56:23Speaker 7: because she toned down a ton and his brother, Yeah brothers.
- 1:56:27Speaker 10: I don't know if she so she toned down. But
- 1:56:29Speaker 10: in Kansas City she's in the box now and yeah,
- 1:56:33Speaker 10: so she doesn't. She's not out with the with the fans.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: Those are the ones I don't like.
- 1:56:38Speaker 10: So I think that she's They put her there because
- 1:56:41Speaker 10: there's less cell phone videos now of her losing her.
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: I've workshopt this up upstairs, but it clarified for me
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: that she was the older girl that.
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: He was kind of pining for in high school and
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: then that he, like you know, was able to land her.
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: And so that's why I think, like you always kind
- 1:56:57Speaker 6: of hold that like first girl in high school you
- 1:56:59Speaker 6: had to crush on. I'm kind of a pedestal. You know,
- 1:57:01Speaker 6: there's never ever going to be another girl like that.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: Is for me.
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: But I don't know. I think that's why it explained
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: a little bit to me. I can't say it on
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: the air. She was a hockey cheerleader, and let's just
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: say it's my freshman year leaders. Hockey cheerleaders. Yeah, they
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: just do a lot of stomping.
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: It's not really so much of the aerobatics acrobatics. It's
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: a lot of just stomping on this on the stands
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: and clapping nervous.
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: Interesting, Okay, they should come out on skates with the pomps.
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: I miss you, Jen, But I know her name was Jen,
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: but I didn't. You know, when you're stupid, like in
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: like eighth ninth grade, and I remember like thinking like.
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: Maybe I should drop a note in her locker.
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: I never did.
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: But you know, when you're a kid, you're trying to like,
- 1:57:45Speaker 6: you know, you got your first crutch and you're like,
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: that's so, but just said I was a freshman on
- 1:57:50Speaker 6: the hockey team. I didn't play vitally for me. So
- 1:57:52Speaker 6: we have we have she sit in.
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: The back row. You know, I'm not playing.
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: I mean I might go in at the end of
- 1:57:57Speaker 6: the game if there's there's cleanup time, and I just
- 1:57:58Speaker 6: sit there and watch the you know.
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: Oh, go get them, get them, go go get them,
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: get them, you know, and watch all their little cheers.
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: I had them all there. Aggressive aggressive mind you know
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: him right, he gg Aggressive is what we want to be. Aggressive.
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: Wow, you should have been more aggressive with jenn.
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: I wasn't aggressed, didn't drop.
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: I had no idea how much my app What did
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: you say? Are you seeing it?
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: I worked, I'm beyond this. I'm beyond I told.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: You workshopped it all up. Yeah, wow, no gens for me.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: My absence up there has been felt, I'll tell you.
- 1:58:35Speaker 10: But you didn't come upstairs yesterday. I forget what to
- 1:58:38Speaker 10: celebrate with you.
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: Seriously, for no other reason than to something good. It
- 1:58:44Speaker 6: happened for the three of us to sort of crow about,
- 1:58:46Speaker 6: Oh oh, there's a surprise. You were able to cut
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: guys and not have to get picked up yeah, like
- 1:58:52Speaker 6: twenty two? Was it twenty two? People like less than
- 1:58:55Speaker 6: three percent?
- 1:58:56Speaker 10: As soon as that happened, Don Waivers there, there's Paul
- 1:58:59Speaker 10: just coming in.
- 1:59:00Speaker 5: Nico like tapped them up like that was very odd.
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell's going on up there
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: now that I think of it. All right, what's going
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: on with Catch twenty two today? We're doing after Locker
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: you post it note so I know.
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: I just i'd like to get interaction going.
