- 0:00Truthfully, a pretty surreal moment.
- 0:01I mean, I there's really only been one other time in my career
- 0:06that I felt like, I don't even know.
- 0:09I'm not even sure that anything has ever matched that.
- 0:11Like, that was just, yeah, it was crazy.
- 0:15I've never, I've never like, you know, been on stage and been a
- 0:20singer or anything like that. But I would have to imagine, you
- 0:23know, I would have to feel something like that.
- 0:25You know, it was just such an incredible experience.
- 0:29And to your point, you know, I, I think that it just kind of
- 0:33goes to show how great our fans have been to me and, and to us.
- 0:40And it just kind of really makes you appreciate them even more
- 0:46for really sticking with us and, and not giving up hope and
- 0:51ultimately being able to give both me and my team and
- 0:56experience like that, you know, because of their determination
- 1:01and and, you know, unwillingness to quit on us is really cool.
- 1:06So just, yeah, grateful to have experienced that.
- 1:09Something I remember for the rest of my life.
- 1:13You know, winning at home was incredible the first time.
- 1:17And they feel different. But, you know, this one Saturday
- 1:21night under the lights, been a while since we won, just, you
- 1:26know, getting ourselves a win and, and advancing up on the
- 1:30playoff thing and just all the things that have come with this,
- 1:33you know, that was that that that one was up there for sure.
- 1:37And yeah, just grateful to have experienced it.
- 1:40Do you think that was the the? Loudest you've ever heard the
- 1:43crowd after a new year wins. It was for me, for sure.
- 1:46I mean, I, I can't think of one that was any louder than that.
- 1:49That one was, yeah, it was different.
- 1:52I mean, it was different, but there was a couple times, you
- 1:55know, there was one time throughout the night that the,
- 1:57you know, I guess they like taking out their cell phones or
- 1:59something and had the lights on. We were coming to a restart and
- 2:02I was like, man, that was it was just visibly from my seat, you
- 2:05know, it caught my attention. And typically it's kind of hard
- 2:07to get a good angle at that, but that just caught my attention
- 2:11and I was like, man, this place looks good tonight, you know.
- 2:13And yeah, to see him, to see him that excited after the race for
- 2:18for me was just, yeah, it was crazy.
- 2:21You know, it was, it was crazy. It was surreal.
- 2:23I don't, I don't really know how else to describe it.
- 2:25And it's just one of those moments you wish you could
- 2:28bottle up, you know, and get it out every now and again and and,
- 2:33you know, live it, you know, relive it.
- 2:35But yeah, I try to box it up the best I can and make sure I never
- 2:40forget it. Bob Parker's Fox Sports, you
- 2:42said after the race it was a wild race.
- 2:44Is there any more satisfaction from just a driver standpoint to
- 2:48win a wild race? Just to win a race, you know, is
- 2:53nice in general. I'm, I'm not going to get picky
- 2:55with whether it's wild or boring.
- 2:59So, yeah, I mean, it was nice to come in, you know, come out on
- 3:03the good end of that. It could have been one of five
- 3:06of us, five or six of us, you know, there at the end.
- 3:09And I think, you know, for me, fortunately, the runs just
- 3:12really timed up at the perfect time and, and we were able to do
- 3:16something with them. But I'm, I'm proud of, of race
- 3:19wins, whether they're wild or boring or lucky or, you know,
- 3:23whatever, anywhere in between. And how would you rate your
- 3:28burnout? And did you have a plan for it?
- 3:30Because it seemed to be pretty sweet.
- 3:32Was it? Oh, that's cool.
- 3:33I'm glad to hear that. I didn't, did not have a plan.
- 3:35There was no plan. It was.
- 3:38Yeah, very much just in the moment and try to do what I
- 3:43could to make it cool and hope that everybody and, you know,
- 3:46enjoy it. That was about all that was all.
- 3:48I didn't. I definitely did not have time
- 3:50to think through what kind of a burnout I was going to do if we
- 3:53won that race. I mean, it was just, you know,
- 3:56chaos. So, but yeah, hope, it was hope.
- 3:58It was good for everybody. Doug Turnbull, PRN.
- 4:01And 11 alive. Wanted to ask not about anything
- 4:04on the track. But a?
- 4:05Lot of times you. Fly yourself to the track or.
- 4:08Particularly I think you do at home anyway, is this a night
- 4:10that you fly home or do you stay in the motorhome like?
- 4:13If you're responsible. For your own transportation when
- 4:15you win a race, how does that change?
- 4:17I'm just going to drive home tonight.
- 4:19Like tonight. Yeah, Whenever we get done, man.
- 4:22That's wild. I mean, it's not that far.
- 4:25That's fair. That's fair.
- 4:27It's sleeping my bed. Congratulations.
- 4:29Thanks, Jacob Sielman, Ray's face Digital Chase.
- 4:33I know the moment that the start finish line was was special with
- 4:36Raylan. I wanted to ask you a little bit
- 4:38more about the design and drive program, almost 10 years now
- 4:43since you started it. What was the inspiration behind
- 4:46getting that program started with you and Napa?
- 4:49And then how special is it to finally bring one of those
- 4:52schemes to Victory Lane tonight? Yeah, the whole thing has been
- 4:56incredible. We had an event this week, you
- 4:59know, it was the 9th year of design to drive and yeah, just
- 5:04we felt like it was. There's been a lot of
- 5:06influential people that have made that foundational effort.
- 5:10What it has become today, I think it far outgrew our
- 5:15expectations of what we thought it would ever be.
- 5:19That's large in part to Napa for them, you know, and they
- 5:22literally pay for a race and say here, you just take this and do
- 5:25whatever you want with it. How often do you see that?
- 5:28Never, right? So I think that's pretty
- 5:31special. And, you know, we just thought
- 5:36it was time to get everyone together and just say thanks,
- 5:39you know, the other night and and we did.
- 5:41And that included partners that included relationships that have
- 5:43been built through through the program.
- 5:46My mom deserves a lot of credit for my foundation in general
- 5:51and, and kind of getting that going and some of her
- 5:53relationships with with Choa and, you know, really just kind
- 5:57of to get the ball rolling and, and you know, since then it has
- 6:02become a very, you know, very much a team effort and to grow
- 6:04in this to be what it is. It started off as a, a shoe
- 6:08program that we auctioned off, you know, all four Hendrick
- 6:10drivers wore them and then, and then Napa got involved and, and
- 6:13when they got involved, that really allowed us to take the
- 6:16whole designing process to another level and really get a
- 6:19lot more engagement in it and, and, and through it.
- 6:23So just incredible. Raylen and, and her, her family
- 6:28were just amazing people, you know, and, and, you know, I'm
- 6:32always inspired by, by those stories and, and the things that
- 6:37you hear her say, you know, and, and the things that motivate
- 6:40her, I think are things that should be contagious to all of
- 6:45us and, and lessons that can be taken in, in anyone's life.
- 6:50So grateful to have her here. I told her this is not normal,
- 6:53you know, so and and so make sure you enjoy this, you know,
- 6:57and you know, as much as as much as she could because you know,
- 7:01those types of moments and just all the stars aligning you just
- 7:06that that stuff doesn't happen every day, you know, and I
- 7:11recognize that. And, you know, I try to cherish
- 7:13that stuff because, you know, it's just hard to come by.
- 7:16What kind of impact do moments like that have on you as a
- 7:20person getting to work with kids like those at Children's of
- 7:24Atlanta? I mean, are those the kind of
- 7:27moments that just let you step back and and give you that
- 7:30perspective of how many other things are bigger than the
- 7:33sport? Yeah.
- 7:35And I think there's a lot of things bigger than the the
- 7:37sport. And that's certainly a great
- 7:38reminder, you know, being being one of them.
- 7:42But like I said, I mean, just, you know, those, so many of
- 7:46those kids have, have had just extremely tough roads and, you
- 7:50know, and it's no fault of their own, right?
- 7:52And, and, you know, it's important to to recognize too,
- 7:57it's not just the individual, it's the entire family, right?
- 8:00And, you know, Raylan brought her brother out and, and she
- 8:07was, she was just excited to have him out here because she
- 8:11said that, you know, he, he misses, so he's missed so many
- 8:14things because of me that I want him to go and have fun, right.
- 8:18So, you know, I, I think that those types of moments are, you
- 8:22know, just important to recognize the, the type of
- 8:24attitude that it takes to endure those journeys as a family unit
- 8:28and to not break apart just a lot of good lessons and all that
- 8:32stuff. And, you know, grateful to have
- 8:33witnessed it and, and to, you know, to have lived, you know,
- 8:38tonight with them and, and hopefully give them a day that
- 8:41that they'll never forget. Chase, congratulations on the
- 8:44win. I know there was debate towards
- 8:46the end of the first stage whether the pit or not or stay
- 8:48out. When you look him and saw the
- 8:50chaos and melee in the back view mirror that kind of reassure you
- 8:54all made the right decision. I mean, hindsight's always 2020,
- 8:59right? Like, of course, yeah, you very
- 9:01well could have been caught up in that crash, but the crash
- 9:04doesn't happen and maybe the calls that, you know, ended up
- 9:07hitting those guys work out so. And your mom had a special 4
- 9:11legged friend in Victory Lane for you.
- 9:13How cool was to have your dog here in Victory Lane?
- 9:15Yeah, it's awesome. That's his first win.
- 9:17So he, you know, he, he got to experience a a dub here here in
- 9:22Atlanta, so that was pretty cool.
- 9:23He's he's he's he's a great dog. I don't take him a ton.
- 9:28You know, obviously it's kind of hard to travel with a big
- 9:32Doberman, but he's he's been a good pup and yeah, really cool
- 9:37to have him in Victory Lane and, you know, have some pictures
- 9:42with him there. John Bianca, The Athletic, you
- 9:44kind of touched on a little bit, but amid this winless streak,
- 9:48right, you kind of find yourself appreciating the wins more often
- 9:52because you realize, you know, they don't.
- 9:53Always come in bunches. Like they sometimes do.
- 9:56Yeah. I mean, I think there's, there's
- 9:57definitely been lessons, you know, throughout that that
- 10:00certainly have have made me enjoy them.
- 10:04But you know, truthfully, I, I, I was already to a point, you
- 10:09know, even before, you know, Texas or, you know, the road to
- 10:13that or even the road to tonight that I think I knew that, you
- 10:20know, to a pretty large degree. And, and truthfully, I think the
- 10:23road to 1 was long enough that, and there had been enough close
- 10:29calls and, and enough just gut wrenching losses and all those
- 10:34second places that led to Watkins Glen that fortunately I,
- 10:39I think that I got a pretty good taste of that or unfortunately,
- 10:43however you want to look at it, but I got a pretty good taste of
- 10:45it early on. So you know that I don't think
- 10:50that has necessarily bothered me.
- 10:52I just, I just want to be competitive, you know, and it's,
- 10:55it's like I've told you guys before, I, I think that if
- 10:58you're for me, you know, satisfaction and, and showing up
- 11:02on a weekend is, you know, were we relevant or were we in
- 11:06contention? Do we, do we actually have a
- 11:08shot? You know what, we up there with
- 11:10pace and doing the right things, Because I just, I, I believe
- 11:15that in this sport, if you're doing all those right things, A,
- 11:18that's something to be proud of and B, if you're doing them
- 11:21regularly, you're going to get your turn.
- 11:23And you know, I, I thought tonight was a great example of
- 11:27that. Truthfully, the past three or
- 11:28four weeks have been a good example of that.
- 11:31We've had some good runs. We've put together some great
- 11:33races, had some good finishes and just had ourselves in the
- 11:37hunt tonight and, and the cards fell our way.
- 11:39And you know that that's the goal every week is just to keep
- 11:42yourself in the hunt, be be right there in the mix and
- 11:46certainly things work out. I will, I will always cherish
- 11:49and enjoy them as much as possible because you know, they
- 11:55are, they are hard to win and you know, nobody has anything
- 11:58promised to them. So, you know, I, I recognize
- 12:00that and I'll never, I'll never take that for granted.
- 12:03And then those moments and especially to do that here at
- 12:06home when you. Have this stretch where it can
- 12:10be frustrating, right? And how do you not start
- 12:13pointing fingers? Whether it yourself or the.
- 12:14Team and start questioning different.
- 12:16Things going on and. We need to change this or why
- 12:19aren't we doing this? How do?
- 12:20You maintain the the. Focus forward.
- 12:22That you seem to have well, I think that's you know, large in
- 12:25part to Alan our our relationship together and I just
- 12:33I, you know, a large. Part of our group.
- 12:37Has been the same since I got here.
- 12:39And you know, obviously Alan and I've been working together for
- 12:4110 years now and and there have been some personal changes here
- 12:45and there. So, you know, totally understand
- 12:48that. But when you climb and you know,
- 12:53when you when you're fortunate enough to climb the mountain, to
- 12:56be able to stand at the top of the mountain with someone,
- 12:59that's an incredible achievement, right?
- 13:01And that's something that he and I will always cherish and and
- 13:05remember. And we did that together, right?
- 13:07And, you know, since then, we have, you know, failed to climb
- 13:14that mountain, you know, again, like we want and we've fallen
- 13:17off of it a few times. And for me, it's really, really
- 13:21important to climb that mountain with the same people that we did
- 13:25the first time and know that we never quit on each other, You
- 13:29know, that that's just an, you know, really important piece of,
- 13:31of the puzzle for me. I'm not, I'm not sure it would
- 13:34really even feel the same if we all jump ship.
- 13:38And you know, I alluded to it on TV earlier, but I'm just really
- 13:42proud of all of our guys for not doing just that and just showing
- 13:46up every week and having great attitudes and just doing
- 13:50everything in their power to. But the car and the, you know,
- 13:55the product on the racetrack that they do in the car, the
- 13:58effort they put in going over the wall, the way Alan brings
- 14:01intensity to the racetrack and calling races to meetings to
- 14:04making sure he's getting everything out of me.
- 14:06Like it's just all right there. And I just, we have such a good
- 14:10group and a good, talented group of people that are really driven
- 14:12and motivated and good people away from the racetrack too,
- 14:16that it's just, you know, you you can't quit on that.
- 14:20Chase, first of all, congratulations. 2 questions.
- 14:24At stage 2, you were just inches behind Reddick.
- 14:28In fact, you have placed maybe the overtaking mono a little bit
- 14:32earlier. You think you have maybe a
- 14:33chance to have overtaken Colin? Maybe.
- 14:37I mean, I tried. I Yeah, I mean, I tried my best.
- 14:41I I came up short. Yeah.
- 14:43So I don't know what you want me to do, try again.
- 14:46And then the second question is shortly after the restart of the
- 14:51last caution when Haley spun out, you were for one or two
- 14:57laps in the Sandwich Chelsea 2 RFK cars, Keselowski and you
- 15:03were thinking at that time. That could.
- 15:05Be a little bit risky for you. I mean, certainly the, the
- 15:08numbers were not in my favor at that point.
- 15:12And and I knew that and Alex did too, right.
- 15:17You know, he, he and I were kind of, it was kind of me and him
- 15:19against the, you know, the 17 and, and the six.
- 15:23And, you know, both Brad and Chris are, are great Speedway
- 15:28racers and, and they're really fast and they were doing a
- 15:31really good job controlling the race.
- 15:33And it was really difficult for me to get and have any sort of
- 15:37control. I just felt like I was always,
- 15:40they always had a big run on me anytime I got the lead.
- 15:44And I didn't really know how to defend that.
- 15:47And I was just hoping that Alex and I could somewhere somehow
- 15:50get in the middle of that and, you know, give our, you know,
- 15:53one of us shot. And fortunately all the cars
- 15:57kind of felt right. You know, they're in the closing
- 15:59laps to get a couple big runs, got 2 for one.
- 16:02They're getting into one, got to 2nd.
- 16:04Somehow Alex got to 3rd and, you know, at that point, I think
- 16:09whether roles were the way they were or roles were reversed, if
- 16:13he and I did anything but push one another in that situation,
- 16:16we were handing the race to Brad, right?
- 16:17So we just, you know, he he did me a huge solid and and lining
- 16:22up and giving me a big shove. And it was enough for me to get,
- 16:26you know, get by Brad and and get back around there to, you
- 16:29know, finish it off. Dustin Long NBC Sports kind of
- 16:31continue that if you didn't have Alex behind you on that last lap
- 16:37and when we saw a big moves, how might that have changed or what
- 16:42would that have allowed you or or maybe limited you and what
- 16:45you could have done with not having Alex?
- 16:47And I think I mean, yeah, obviously who knows?
- 16:51And and that situation, right, Like I I think off of 4 coming
- 16:55to the white, you know, I alluded to it a second ago, but
- 16:59if if he takes me too wide right there, the race is over.
- 17:03More than likely, you know, we're going to drag each other
- 17:06back. There was a pretty big gap back
- 17:07to forth, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't watched it back
- 17:11closely, but the way I remember it, there was.
- 17:14So then we're kind of letting Brad get away and they're at
- 17:18that point. We would have been side by side
- 17:20down the front and probably side by side through one and two.
- 17:22And, you know, we're never going to have enough time.
- 17:25So, you know, he and I both knew that the only shot we as a
- 17:29company had at that juncture was to line up and push and hope
- 17:34that something worked out good, you know, in our favor because
- 17:38at that point, it was 211. You know, whether it was he or
- 17:42I, I think that, you know, obviously we both want to win.
- 17:45And, you know, I recognize that he gave me a great shove.
- 17:50I recognize that he took his run on on Brad to to try to get
- 17:53himself to 2nd, which ultimately helped me as well.
- 17:58And yeah, those are all things that I, you know, remember and
- 18:01and, you know, we'll do everything we can do to try and
- 18:08bring fast cars over the course of the, you know, next number of
- 18:12weeks and, and hope those guys can get a win.
- 18:15I think they deserve it. They've been fast.
- 18:16He's had a terrible run of luck I feel like over the last month,
- 18:21so it'd be nice to be nice to see him, you know, grab a win
- 18:24and and get in. Yes, Alfa Romero Southern Race
- 18:27Week Radio Congratulations Chase on the win.
- 18:29Let me ask you this. We saw a lot of emotion after
- 18:33your win there and, and, and you went into the crowd and and
- 18:36celebrated with them so that we don't see you do when you win.
- 18:39Where does this win stack up in the wins you've had in your
- 18:42career in the Cub series? Yeah, it's up there for sure.
- 18:46I mean, just the whole thing. I mean, I, I talked about a
- 18:48little bit, but just, you know, it's always such a whirlwind,
- 18:52like from the time the race ends, the time I get in here,
- 18:55like I haven't just had a minute, you know what I mean?
- 18:58And sometimes it takes a minute. And, you know, to Doug's point,
- 19:02I can get, I'm going to get to drive home and I get to have a
- 19:04minute to myself and I'm looking forward to that and I'll
- 19:07probably have a better answer for you, you know, later on.
- 19:10But tonight was really special. I can tell you that.
- 19:13And just the way the stars align and everything that went into
- 19:15the deal and you know, having having the Mills family here
- 19:19and, and a lot of people from Napa genuine parts and Cox
- 19:24Automotive with Kelley Blue It's kind of home for the entire car
- 19:38and that's kind of a a rare thing to share with with, you
- 19:42know, with with your sponsors, but it's, you know, just a
- 19:45special deal. So I have my mom here tonight.
- 19:48That was really cool, you know, just just a lot of stuff and I
- 19:50haven't even thought about all of it.
- 19:51So as I reflect, I'll probably give you a better answer, but
- 19:54it's pretty special. John, you'll be savage ventures.
- 19:57So First off, inspections clear and you're good.
- 19:59That's good. I've been on the other end of
- 20:02that so. My actual question was,
- 20:05according to, you know, the broadcast, you were one of only
- 20:08four drivers who was not involved in some sort of
- 20:11incident. So with the ability that you had
- 20:14to, you know, make aggressive moves, slice and dice at the
- 20:17field, how did you pull that off?
- 20:20Because I know the car wasn't handling the best early in the
- 20:22race. Yeah.
- 20:24I mean, I honestly, I think just good fortune, luck, you know, at
- 20:29certain points. I mean, there's there's certain
- 20:31times when accidents happen. I mean, there's just very little
- 20:35you can do, you know, truthfully.
- 20:37So we were in good positions at at good points in time for us.
- 20:44And there'll be some point down the road that we won't be, you
- 20:46know, and that's just that's just racing.
- 20:48But fortunately I worked out for us tonight and, you know, was
- 20:51able to stay out of the mess. And, you know, Alan made some
- 20:54good calls here early to keep his track position.
- 20:56And that typically is better in your odds, right.
- 20:58So you can do, you can do some stuff, but you're never totally
- 21:01safe. But yeah, I don't really have a
- 21:04good answer for you other than that just kind of worked out and
- 21:06fortunately I had a fast car and all the cards fell our way there
- 21:10at the end. David Wayne and the pony
- 21:11finished Chase. Congrats on your 20th career
- 21:13NASCAR Cup Series win. I want to talk about towards the
- 21:16end of the race, working with Alex Bowman there at the end
- 21:19before the Justin Haley caution. It seemed like Brad and Brad and
- 21:23Chris Buscher were out there with you guys as well, fighting
- 21:27to take the lead there once he faded off or once our Buscher
- 21:33faded off at the end of the race.
- 21:35I mean, how big was it having Alex there in your back pocket
- 21:37to get around Brad and hold him off?
- 21:39Yeah, and we talked about a little bit a minute ago, you
- 21:42know, but he was a great teammate in that moment for
- 21:45sure. And like I said, you know, I
- 21:50think we're coming off 4 to the white.
- 21:52And if if he takes me to why we are all but just saying here,
- 21:57Brad, you can win, which, you know, if the roles are reversed,
- 22:03I guarantee you, you know, that wouldn't have been the case.
- 22:06Other way around, right? So at that point in time, it's
- 22:08our job to, you know, as a company to try and get Hendrick
- 22:11Motorsports a win. You know, at that point in time
- 22:14and you know, whether it was he or I or, you know, however that
- 22:18transpired right and, and, and naturally and it did just that,
- 22:23you know, he had to run and, you know, he gave me a huge shove
- 22:25like we saw all night. I was able to do something with
- 22:28it. And, you know, fortunately, it
- 22:30was enough to hold on. Yeah, Next two races we got
- 22:33obviously back-to-back Rd. courses and then obviously last
- 22:35row course race where you're at 3rd place finish.
- 22:37I mean, what kind of momentum are you rolling off of Mexico
- 22:40City to go into the next two row course races especially we're
- 22:42going to the Midwest and then we're going to go out, go out
- 22:44West. Yeah, I'm excited.
- 22:46I mean, I'm, I'm really just kind of really proud.
- 22:50Last four weeks, you know, honestly, we had had a really
- 22:54fast car at Michigan. You know, I thought we were
- 22:57really respectable up there, good in Mexico, thought we were
- 23:03also really respectable up at Pocono.
- 23:05You know, we we weren't we weren't as good as the 11 or 12.
- 23:08I'll, you know, I certainly understand that, but I thought
- 23:11we were right there in the hunt, you know, and maybe a a little
- 23:13adjustment away from getting right up there with them.
- 23:16And certainly tonight we're right there in the mix.
- 23:18I understand this is a little different ball game, but, you
- 23:22know, there's that those are a lot of different styles of race
- 23:25tracks that I feel like our team's done a really solid job
- 23:27and we're really close to just having having all the pieces of
- 23:30the puzzle there. So there's really nowhere I'm
- 23:34not looking forward to going to and embracing whatever challenge
- 23:38you know comes next.
