Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Almost Famous Podcasts. It's been here
- 0:09Speaker 2: today and I am joined by the Golden Bachelorette herself,
- 0:15Speaker 2: Joan Vassos. We to recap the latest episode of The
- 0:20Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor. Joan to get us started, though, I want
- 0:22Speaker 2: to ask, how's chalk? He recently said, you hadn't seen
- 0:26Speaker 2: each other in about a month.
- 0:28Speaker 3: That was crazy, So okay, so we got we started.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You know, we got engaged in August of last year,
- 0:34Speaker 3: and we've always been really good about seeing each other
- 0:37Speaker 3: every like two to three weeks at the most was
- 0:39Speaker 3: like our biggest time of part and then all of
- 0:41Speaker 3: a sudden, twice this summer, we just had really conflicting schedules.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And also, I mean part of the problem is he
- 0:47Speaker 3: has a business in Wichita and he kind of has
- 0:48Speaker 3: to be there. So we had two instances where we
- 0:51Speaker 3: didn't see each other for a whole month, and that
- 0:53Speaker 3: was one of those, was like last week, but we
- 0:55Speaker 3: got together or he suggested that maybe we meet in
- 0:58Speaker 3: New York because that's like kind of our happy place
- 0:59Speaker 3: and it's like when we go when I go to Wichita,
- 1:02Speaker 3: or he comes to Maryland like our families all around
- 1:05Speaker 3: us and we don't get to spend like super duper
- 1:08Speaker 3: quality time together like we want. So we always round
- 1:11Speaker 3: a vue in New York City. So we did that
- 1:12Speaker 3: and we saw a show, We went to Great Dinners,
- 1:14Speaker 3: and we walked in Central Park and just had a
- 1:17Speaker 3: great relaxing time. It was a real good, like what
- 1:19Speaker 3: our relationship needed.
- 1:22Speaker 2: When were you there in New York last.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Friday Saturday Sunday? So just a couple days ago?
- 1:27Speaker 2: You were there when I was there with Chris Harrison
- 1:29Speaker 2: and Wells Adams for the City Cruises.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I know, I was on the train on the way
- 1:35Speaker 3: up there and I was listening to your podcast with
- 1:37Speaker 3: Ashley and you said you were going to be doing that.
- 1:39Speaker 3: You were there on Sunday, right, Yeah?
- 1:41Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:42Speaker 3: How was it?
- 1:43Speaker 2: It was amazing?
- 1:44Speaker 1: It went.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So we have another one in San Diego December sixth.
- 1:48Speaker 2: It was a blast. We had fun, the best time.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It was nothing but reminiscing and telling stories. The cool
- 1:56Speaker 2: part is our listeners are going to be able to actually
- 1:58Speaker 2: hear New York event because we recorded it with iHeart,
- 2:03Speaker 2: so it's going to be on our stream here soon, Joan.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's funny. I was just I just got off the
- 2:10Speaker 2: phone with the sweetest, nicest United Airlines rep and she
- 2:15Speaker 2: recognized my voice from this show and she's, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 2: she got to tell me about her love with the
- 2:22Speaker 2: Bachelor and the Golden Bachelor and all Bachelor things related.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And I was telling her, Hey, I get to jump
- 2:30Speaker 2: on a recording soon and talk about this Golden Bachelor,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and she was so excited.
- 2:36Speaker 3: What is she What does she think about him? I
- 2:38Speaker 3: love to hear people's perspective.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I didn't get an inside glance, but I did get
- 2:42Speaker 2: insight from our shows that we were doing live in Boston,
- 2:47Speaker 2: New York. I think that people look at Mel and
- 2:52Speaker 2: they say, a very handsome guy. He seems kind. But
- 2:59Speaker 2: for whatever reason in and we could probably you know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: name a few, the audience just isn't connecting with it
- 3:05Speaker 2: like they did past, you know, with Gary, because yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 2: I think I honestly, I think Mel is just it's
- 3:16Speaker 2: it's uncommon for a guy like him not to be
- 3:18Speaker 2: able to find somebody, and I think they want that
- 3:22Speaker 2: like more heartfelt second chance at love. This feels like
- 3:25Speaker 2: maybe one of the only ways that somebody's gonna be
- 3:28Speaker 2: able to find it kind of story, and so it's
- 3:31Speaker 2: just not connecting.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I agree with you on that, like that we think, oh,
- 3:36Speaker 3: he doesn't need this show to find love, like he
- 3:38Speaker 3: probably has women all over him. But I also feel
- 3:42Speaker 3: like he is. Like I feel like, so we're an
- 3:46Speaker 3: episode four and I feel like by now I should
- 3:48Speaker 3: know something about him. I still know nothing. He just
- 3:52Speaker 3: doesn't open up. And by the way, he doesn't do
- 3:54Speaker 3: it this episode either, So I feel like we're going
- 3:56Speaker 3: to run out of time and we may get to
- 3:59Speaker 3: the end of the season and not know Mal and
- 4:01Speaker 3: that's going to be a problem.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I told Ashley this last week. I said, what we
- 4:05Speaker 2: need from Mel, what Mel needs for himself, and I
- 4:10Speaker 2: don't mean this to he needs a breakdown, Like he
- 4:13Speaker 2: needs that moment of vulnerability that you know this show
- 4:18Speaker 2: oftentimes provides from the lead where we see them so invested,
- 4:22Speaker 2: so conflicted, so saddened by the exits, but also the conversations,
- 4:29Speaker 2: and we don't we don't have that yet, And like
- 4:32Speaker 2: you said, I think we need that in episode one
- 4:35Speaker 2: because people were cautious going into the season based on
- 4:39Speaker 2: the comments that Mel had made to really invest into
- 4:43Speaker 2: this season. And now we're we're actually going to be
- 4:45Speaker 2: talking about episode four today. But we're pretty far into
- 4:50Speaker 2: this thing for the Golden Season, and we don't have
- 4:55Speaker 2: that moment, like you said, where we know him. I
- 4:56Speaker 2: don't know what he actually wants. He says the right things,
- 5:00Speaker 2: he listens to the ladies talk. They tell him how
- 5:03Speaker 2: much they like him, and then he says, that's great.
- 5:05Speaker 2: That means so much to me. We don't know him
- 5:07Speaker 2: at all.
- 5:09Speaker 3: We don't and we're gonna run out of time. And
- 5:11Speaker 3: the thing is, I think he's probably being coached by producers, right.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I mean, you've been on it, I've been on it.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You know, they know what you need to be doing.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And I feel like he's being coached and he doesn't
- 5:23Speaker 3: have it in him. Is what I'm afraid of. That
- 5:25Speaker 3: we're just going to run out of time and he
- 5:27Speaker 3: just isn't going to give that to us. Because you know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: we're getting pretty far along into this. He we're down
- 5:33Speaker 3: to only nine women, okay, he started out with twenty four,
- 5:36Speaker 3: twenty five, and you know, we're getting down to where
- 5:40Speaker 3: things are going to get serious really soon. We're going
- 5:42Speaker 3: to get down to hometowns before we know it, and
- 5:44Speaker 3: we know nothing about mel I'm just afraid he doesn't
- 5:48Speaker 3: have it in him, he doesn't have anything to say.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I would also say, there's a couple of things, and
- 5:53Speaker 2: I'm glad we're talking about this with you. I actually
- 5:56Speaker 2: don't think we know the women either. I think we
- 6:01Speaker 2: know pieces of them. But you know, when you were
- 6:05Speaker 2: on the Golden Bachelor, there are storylines from the women,
- 6:11Speaker 2: maybe their storylines of loss, maybe their storylines of hope.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Maybe there's storylines of getting through something difficult like illness
- 6:20Speaker 2: or financial struggle. We don't I could not name one
- 6:26Speaker 2: of those instances right now. And then here's the other side.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And I want to leave space for you to comment
- 6:33Speaker 2: on this. This feels very much like a Bachelor season
- 6:38Speaker 2: to me. And that was what was beautiful about the
- 6:42Speaker 2: Golden Show originally was it was so different. It was heartwarming,
- 6:46Speaker 2: it was heartfelt, it was beautiful. It was one of
- 6:51Speaker 2: support and hope, and this like empowerment. This feels very
- 6:55Speaker 2: Bachelor to me because we have a villain this season,
- 6:58Speaker 2: and Nicole, I know.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Well, I feel like it feels very Bachelor, like you said,
- 7:04Speaker 3: but I think part of the way the reason it
- 7:05Speaker 3: feels very Bachelor I mean, I think everybody knows, or
- 7:08Speaker 3: we all know in this business that bachelor seasons do
- 7:11Speaker 3: better than bachelorette seasons because people like having the women
- 7:16Speaker 3: as the storyline because they are so open and giving
- 7:20Speaker 3: of themselves and telling about themselves and wanting to talk.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And this group, like you said, really hasn't done that
- 7:25Speaker 3: that much. So it also feels like a bachelor season
- 7:28Speaker 3: because of that. It just I feel like we're lacking,
- 7:32Speaker 3: We're lacking all of those backstories. Like you said, I
- 7:35Speaker 3: feel like the only one I really know right now
- 7:39Speaker 3: maybe Debbie, and I feel like I am rooting for
- 7:42Speaker 3: her just because she's the only one I feel like
- 7:44Speaker 3: I know, and maybe Shayl a little bit because she
- 7:46Speaker 3: hadn't want one date.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It's missing it right now for me, and I'm frustrated
- 7:50Speaker 2: by that because I love the Golden franchise. I think
- 7:54Speaker 2: it is something that could be still. I'm hoping so
- 7:58Speaker 2: good for the franchise and for the show, but it's tough.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Let's jump into this.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, let's talk about that villain, because.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot there a lot to say. We're
- 8:09Speaker 2: recapping episode four. We kind of start this whole thing
- 8:13Speaker 2: with Debbie leading the women in a workout class by
- 8:16Speaker 2: the pool. We have nine to eleven women left at
- 8:19Speaker 2: this point. Carol admits at this point she's holding back,
- 8:23Speaker 2: and then Debbie comes in with the date card. Now
- 8:26Speaker 2: here's where we'll start. Joan Peg gets the one on
- 8:28Speaker 2: one this week, and you wanted to talk about our
- 8:32Speaker 2: villain Nicole. She's surprised if I remember, right at this moment,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and a little irritated by Peg getting this one on one.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's the start a little foreshadowing I think of what's
- 8:44Speaker 2: to come for this episode where the underlying theme is
- 8:49Speaker 2: Nicole rubbing people the wrong way.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and she started this rubbing people the wrong way,
- 8:55Speaker 3: like already it's happened in other episodes. She just is
- 8:59Speaker 3: I think she's so very self un unself aware, like
- 9:04Speaker 3: she doesn't really see reality. And she thinks they all
- 9:07Speaker 3: really like her, I think, and I think they're all
- 9:09Speaker 3: rolling in their eyes as she walks out of rooms
- 9:11Speaker 3: after she says these crazy statements, and this was one
- 9:14Speaker 3: of them. I mean, and we hear a lot of
- 9:16Speaker 3: it in interviews, so I don't think they're hearing everything
- 9:18Speaker 3: we're hearing when they watch this back. I think there
- 9:20Speaker 3: are it's going to be a whole different story. But
- 9:22Speaker 3: right now, like she's saying that in an interview, she's like, yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 3: I don't really get like why she hasn't one on
- 9:27Speaker 3: one day, I believe haven't seen the chemistry. Well why
- 9:30Speaker 3: would you see the chemistry? You know, like they're having
- 9:33Speaker 3: individual conversations, not in your eyesight. So I think she
- 9:36Speaker 3: just wants to, you know, feel like she has an
- 9:40Speaker 3: upper hand, and so she's just poopooing everybody else's relationships
- 9:43Speaker 3: because she thinks she's.
- 9:44Speaker 2: For mel Why do you how do you feel about
- 9:48Speaker 2: their being an identified villain during during the Golden Show?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Do you like, how does that make you feel watching
- 9:58Speaker 2: it back now knowing you've been a part of all
- 9:59Speaker 2: this seasons up until this point.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's funny. So I don't like it. So I
- 10:05Speaker 3: think the thing that people like about Golden Bachelor and
- 10:08Speaker 3: Golden Bachelotte is that there isn't drama. And I've heard
- 10:11Speaker 3: that over and over and over again. So it has
- 10:14Speaker 3: its own little place in Bachelor world. And I like
- 10:17Speaker 3: that it has its own little place, and it's like
- 10:19Speaker 3: what people are looking for when they go to that place.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And now that place has been like kind of uprooted
- 10:25Speaker 3: a little bit, and now it has like paint splashed
- 10:27Speaker 3: on it or whatever. It just isn't as pure as
- 10:29Speaker 3: it was. And I'm not sure will it ever go
- 10:32Speaker 3: back to being pure again. And I'm worried once drama
- 10:37Speaker 3: is introduced, then all of a sudden, it's okay now.
- 10:40Speaker 3: And I hope that that is not the case, because
- 10:44Speaker 3: I feel like we're going to lose that audience and
- 10:47Speaker 3: we're already worried about that. We're already worried about the
- 10:49Speaker 3: Golden audience, and this is just another thing to drive
- 10:53Speaker 3: them away.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I agree with you, there was great momentum coming out
- 10:57Speaker 2: of The Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelor into this season.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I think it was at a tipping point of really
- 11:05Speaker 2: taking off and becoming a household watchable product. You're right
- 11:09Speaker 2: in saying it was pure, you know. The Bachelor, I
- 11:13Speaker 2: think really suffered when drama became the focus and story
- 11:20Speaker 2: and love became kind of secondary to the overall message,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and drama was what people were, you know, what the
- 11:28Speaker 2: show was showing. I hope the show listens to their
- 11:33Speaker 2: audience and says, hey, they're not liking the drama. They're
- 11:37Speaker 2: not watching the drama. They're not intrigued by the drama. Jessica,
- 11:42Speaker 2: my wife watched The Golden because of the lack of drama.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It was something we could watch and not get frustrated with.
- 11:50Speaker 2: We could watch it and just enjoy the beautiful stories
- 11:53Speaker 2: and the beautiful people that came through. I think adding
- 11:57Speaker 2: in drama and focusing on drama is a mistake.
- 12:01Speaker 3: That's my take, completely agree. Yeah, and I'm not sure
- 12:05Speaker 3: if we can go backwards now now that we've had drama.
- 12:09Speaker 3: You know, I worry a little bit that Bachelor is
- 12:13Speaker 3: worried about its audience and it so let's let's like
- 12:18Speaker 3: just jump off of Golden and go and look who
- 12:21Speaker 3: they just cast for the next season of Bachelorette. Somebody
- 12:24Speaker 3: who's a really controversial figure. You know, she has a
- 12:27Speaker 3: like a very sordid pass, and she's going to bring readings.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Are they doing this for ratings? That's what scares me now,
- 12:33Speaker 3: Like if you then all of us, all of a
- 12:35Speaker 3: sudden become a show about ratings, then you lose your purity,
- 12:38Speaker 3: you lose why you're really there, so and your ratings
- 12:41Speaker 3: should follow your you know, the reason you're there, as
- 12:46Speaker 3: opposed to the other way around.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I think you're right, and I heard that all weekend
- 12:51Speaker 2: on these cruises. Is that right, going? Yeah, just you know,
- 12:55Speaker 2: it's hard for us to now watch the show when
- 13:00Speaker 2: the intention behind the show is not what it used
- 13:02Speaker 2: to be, which is, even if this doesn't work out,
- 13:05Speaker 2: the people coming on were least hopeful that maybe this
- 13:08Speaker 2: is where the start of their love story began, which
- 13:13Speaker 2: is a good segue here. We're going to get back
- 13:15Speaker 2: to the Peg and Maldate because there's some great moments
- 13:17Speaker 2: on that date and the fair is beautiful. But kind
- 13:20Speaker 2: of underlying through this episode is the conversation about becoming
- 13:24Speaker 2: an influencer and promoting brands and your status in society
- 13:30Speaker 2: as somebody that's known, did you during your time on
- 13:35Speaker 2: the show ever hear these kind of conversations happening and
- 13:39Speaker 2: they just weren't shown? Was it a different mindset? Kind
- 13:41Speaker 2: of talk about what your experience was on the show
- 13:45Speaker 2: based on what you're watching now this season?
- 13:47Speaker 3: So I think as you get farther along, it happened
- 13:52Speaker 3: with and Bachelorette and now it's happening with Golden The
- 13:55Speaker 3: first seasons are really about what the seasons are supposed
- 13:59Speaker 3: to be about and like we didn't know about being
- 14:02Speaker 3: an influencer. I didn't even know what an influencer was.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I didn't even have Instagram. And I think that was
- 14:06Speaker 3: true for pretty much everyone on our show. I think
- 14:11Speaker 3: that was pretty much true for all the men that
- 14:13Speaker 3: were on my show. But I feel like as people,
- 14:18Speaker 3: So people on Golden Baucher now have Instagram, So I
- 14:20Speaker 3: have Instagram, Kathy, Susan, Nancy, everybody has Instagram now from
- 14:24Speaker 3: our season, and so we're now already starting from like
- 14:28Speaker 3: one step higher. So we went from us not having
- 14:30Speaker 3: Instagram to this group now having Instagram and thinking, Okay,
- 14:34Speaker 3: I could make something out of this. So I feel
- 14:37Speaker 3: like this influencer thing just like those steps go up
- 14:42Speaker 3: and up and up for every season, and I think
- 14:44Speaker 3: now we've just made the next step up, like now
- 14:46Speaker 3: they know and now the next group is going to
- 14:48Speaker 3: make that next step, and all of a sudden, we're
- 14:50Speaker 3: going to be just like the regular Bachelor and Bachelrettes.
- 14:52Speaker 3: We're going to be people that are going on there
- 14:54Speaker 3: for the wrong reasons, trying to be influencers, thinking this
- 14:57Speaker 3: is the way that they are going to be famous,
- 14:59Speaker 3: as opposed to how great it was right in the
- 15:01Speaker 3: beginning with the first Golden Bauchler in the first in
- 15:04Speaker 3: my first season, where everybody was there for just only
- 15:07Speaker 3: the right reasons, nobody was there for any other reason.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, it goes back to your word purity. It
- 15:13Speaker 2: had a pure spirit to it because there was no
- 15:17Speaker 2: other thought process or intention coming into the show and
- 15:20Speaker 2: then really leaving the show. And I obviously know a
- 15:23Speaker 2: lot of the contestants that were on your season, but
- 15:26Speaker 2: also you know during Gary's time as the Bachelor, and yes,
- 15:32Speaker 2: some of them have made new second careers, third careers
- 15:36Speaker 2: based on the show, but those things were kind of
- 15:38Speaker 2: offered to them. They weren't pursued during it or from it. Joan,
- 15:54Speaker 2: Let's go to this. Peg and Mel date interesting couple
- 15:57Speaker 2: to me. They're very unique, both very active athletic. They
- 16:03Speaker 2: went to a fair. There's one of our producers on
- 16:08Speaker 2: the show head there has been to this fair every
- 16:10Speaker 2: summer of her life. Mel and Peg say they've both
- 16:14Speaker 2: been to this fair before. Firs are a big deal
- 16:17Speaker 2: because where I come from, the Kasiasco County Fair in Warsaw,
- 16:21Speaker 2: Indiana is what people travel thirty plus miles to come
- 16:25Speaker 2: to because it is one of the coolest things of
- 16:27Speaker 2: the summer. I love fairs, big fan of fairs. I
- 16:30Speaker 2: still go back for the fair. What was your thoughts
- 16:34Speaker 2: on the relationship or the connection between Peg and Mel.
- 16:39Speaker 3: It's just like wholesome fun and that's what we needed
- 16:42Speaker 3: from the two of them, because she is just I
- 16:45Speaker 3: feel like she is like an innocent I mean, she's
- 16:47Speaker 3: probably seen terrible things in her life. She worked with
- 16:49Speaker 3: the FBI, she was a firefighter, like she had all
- 16:52Speaker 3: these experiences. Yet she is just so joyful and she's
- 16:55Speaker 3: so easy to get along with, and she's game for anything.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And I think it was a perfect date for them.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I think we really needed to see that from Mel. Also,
- 17:03Speaker 3: Like I knew she had it in her, but I
- 17:04Speaker 3: needed to see if he had it in him, Like
- 17:06Speaker 3: can you just be fun and let go of like
- 17:09Speaker 3: all of your status in the world. You know, you've
- 17:11Speaker 3: been a professional football player, you're a lawyer. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 3: I think he has all this kind of ego in
- 17:15Speaker 3: him and just like have no ego and just have
- 17:17Speaker 3: fun to act like a kid. So I think we
- 17:18Speaker 3: needed this from him, and I think he did a
- 17:20Speaker 3: really good job. I think he was really engaged.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Peg is one of those like big personalities. I think
- 17:26Speaker 2: that could push him out of his comfort zone, which
- 17:28Speaker 2: is I think, as you said, something needed. She is
- 17:31Speaker 2: a big personality. She's a fun personality. I wish we'd
- 17:34Speaker 2: actually get more of Peg throughout the season as we
- 17:37Speaker 2: watch her interact even with the women, because I think
- 17:40Speaker 2: she is probably hilarious. I can just picture her filter
- 17:44Speaker 2: not being there, similar to a Kathy where they say
- 17:48Speaker 2: wild things and it's hilarious and it's lovable and we
- 17:53Speaker 2: like them more for it. I wish we saw more
- 17:57Speaker 2: of Peg kind of interacting amongst the women in the house.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But this was a good date and I do think
- 18:02Speaker 2: if anything, if nothing else, this was a very humanizing
- 18:07Speaker 2: moment for us watching Mel. We got to watch him
- 18:11Speaker 2: become just a human and not some robot that's you know, handsome, smart,
- 18:17Speaker 2: accomplished all these things. It's like, we just want to
- 18:20Speaker 2: see him go out and throw a baseball and eat
- 18:23Speaker 2: you know, whatever fair food they eat, and have fun
- 18:28Speaker 2: and have fun. That I think that the message is
- 18:30Speaker 2: just we want to see Mel have fun during this.
- 18:33Speaker 3: We really did. And the fact that he had fun
- 18:35Speaker 3: even though she was beating him in most of the games. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 3: it was actually showed me that his ego wasn't as
- 18:41Speaker 3: much as I thought. It was like he was happy
- 18:43Speaker 3: that she was really good. He thought she was a
- 18:45Speaker 3: I think he actually said I think she's a badass
- 18:46Speaker 3: or something like that, like he was. He thought it
- 18:50Speaker 3: was charming and he liked that about her. So that
- 18:53Speaker 3: made me like him more honestly, because you know, he
- 18:55Speaker 3: could have been one of those guys that like, oh
- 18:57Speaker 3: she's better and like sulked or you know, not want
- 18:59Speaker 3: to play the games anymore. He kept going back for
- 19:01Speaker 3: more and.
- 19:02Speaker 2: He liked it. Yeah. I think the big moment that
- 19:05Speaker 2: stands out too is peg throwing the baseball. How into
- 19:09Speaker 2: it she got. I don't know if that's like just
- 19:11Speaker 2: to her being funny or if that's how she throws
- 19:14Speaker 2: a baseball, but it had to be clocking at eighty
- 19:16Speaker 2: five miles per hour straight down the pipe because she
- 19:19Speaker 2: put her whole body in.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Curiously, I know, I was like, where did she learn
- 19:23Speaker 3: how to do that? I feel like everything she does
- 19:25Speaker 3: surprises me. She's just good at everything, and as well
- 19:30Speaker 3: as looking good while she's doing it, she's just so cute,
- 19:32Speaker 3: so pretty. It's just a cute little figure. And she's
- 19:35Speaker 3: just so joyful. She makes you smile. And he even
- 19:38Speaker 3: said that when she was walking up, or maybe it
- 19:41Speaker 3: was in one of his interviews, he said, every time
- 19:42Speaker 3: I'm with Peg, I just smile. It's just infectious. She
- 19:45Speaker 3: just makes you smile. And I think he had such
- 19:48Speaker 3: a good time with her. And I feel like, honestly,
- 19:51Speaker 3: I don't want to give them to call any credit,
- 19:52Speaker 3: but I hadn't seen a lot of chemistry with them either,
- 19:54Speaker 3: and I thought, this is where I finally see it.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair. One of the funniest moments it just
- 20:00Speaker 2: like made me smile is they kind of endo their
- 20:03Speaker 2: day with the Casey and the Sunshine Band, which is
- 20:06Speaker 2: something my dad played so often.
- 20:09Speaker 3: By the way, I knew every song I'm sorry, I'm
- 20:11Speaker 3: I'm of the Golden Era too. I love Casey in
- 20:13Speaker 3: the Central Band.
- 20:14Speaker 2: It's it just made me smile. I loved it because
- 20:16Speaker 2: I was like, this is bringing back my childhood playing
- 20:21Speaker 2: over the you know, the speakers in the house. This
- 20:24Speaker 2: is a great date. And then we're moving on to
- 20:27Speaker 2: the next day at the mansion. This is where we're
- 20:31Speaker 2: really getting the conversation that we just talked about about influencing. Yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 2: the kind of the status that these women will have
- 20:41Speaker 2: coming off of this show, it feels I don't know
- 20:45Speaker 2: why I feel this way. Almost watching it felt heavy
- 20:48Speaker 2: to me joan like one. I think the dreams and
- 20:52Speaker 2: the expectations will fall short of what they're hop like,
- 20:56Speaker 2: what Nicole is really hoping for out of this. I
- 20:58Speaker 2: just I don't know any people that have made a
- 21:02Speaker 2: living influencing off of this show. I think it's very hard.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I think it's very sporadic. I think it seemed sor lived,
- 21:12Speaker 2: short lived. I think it's just tough. So I feel
- 21:15Speaker 2: heavy in that manner that she comes onto this thinking
- 21:17Speaker 2: that her life is going to change and she's going
- 21:19Speaker 2: to be able to influence. I also don't love again.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I think it's heavy because I love this Golden franchise
- 21:25Speaker 2: so much. It felt almost like a pivoting turning point
- 21:29Speaker 2: for me watching the show where I say, Okay, the
- 21:32Speaker 2: purity of this is gone. Now, this was good, this
- 21:35Speaker 2: was great. It was different than anything else the Bachelor
- 21:39Speaker 2: has put out there. It's no longer different, and I'm
- 21:42Speaker 2: sad about that.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It was so blatant and so she just held nothing back.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I felt like she was really full of herself. That morning,
- 21:50Speaker 3: she got up with a like a new look on
- 21:53Speaker 3: Lias on life and she was going to go just
- 21:55Speaker 3: put it all out there, and she's like, you know,
- 21:56Speaker 3: I came here not just dating Mail, I'm dating America.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm not even sure what that means. But
- 22:02Speaker 3: h and everybody who's watching and not watching, I'm not
- 22:05Speaker 3: sure what that means. Then she said, like, we have
- 22:08Speaker 3: real housewife status. I think you're right, She's her thought
- 22:12Speaker 3: of this is overinflated. There are lots of people that
- 22:15Speaker 3: come off the show and go back to their normal lives.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Like I honestly, I came off of being Golden Bachelorette
- 22:20Speaker 3: and I got home on a Friday and I went
- 22:23Speaker 3: to work on Monday morning. Like your life doesn't change
- 22:25Speaker 3: that much. You go back to your regular life. And
- 22:27Speaker 3: I don't think she gets that, or I don't think
- 22:29Speaker 3: that's what she wants, but I do feel like it
- 22:32Speaker 3: was so blatant it did kind of ruin things. Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 3: and I mean I think she sucks the air out
- 22:38Speaker 3: of the room, like with her like weird comments.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, Like if you have one kind of person
- 22:45Speaker 2: speaking this way and doing this type of thing. It
- 22:47Speaker 2: does change the whole vibe of the house. I went
- 22:51Speaker 2: back to work after my time as a bachelor. Yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 2: for two years. I sold software again until other things
- 22:58Speaker 2: kind of came on and my world and I could
- 23:01Speaker 2: leave my job for two years. A week after filming stopped,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I was back in my office working and traveling for
- 23:09Speaker 2: a software company. I think this messaging of whoever's telling
- 23:13Speaker 2: them this, that this influencing is the path and it's
- 23:17Speaker 2: going to be handed to you and you're going to
- 23:19Speaker 2: get paid so much money to post some pictures. I
- 23:21Speaker 2: just think it needs to go away because it is
- 23:24Speaker 2: hurting the show. It especially will hurt the Golden franchise. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 2: so you know, we do get in the group date,
- 23:32Speaker 2: before we get into the Lemon Bar scandal. Before we
- 23:37Speaker 2: do I do there was a line that I want
- 23:39Speaker 2: to ask you about.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I know. Yeah, I'm still just like kind of comprehend it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: To be honest, Joan, you are are You are a
- 23:47Speaker 2: beautiful human, attractive in every way, personality, the physical appearance.
- 23:53Speaker 2: And there's so many other women on your season that
- 23:55Speaker 2: were just beautiful people. But Nicole as the last cast,
- 24:01Speaker 2: was not that good looking or something along those lines.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yeah, wasn't so great looking or something like that. I
- 24:08Speaker 3: actually stopped it and rewound it. Couldn't believe somebody coud
- 24:12Speaker 3: actually say that. So and I'm like, Yep, she sure
- 24:15Speaker 3: as heck said that. And I don't even know what
- 24:19Speaker 3: to say that. I mean, first of all, like you said,
- 24:21Speaker 3: there are such beautiful women on the Golden Bachelor season,
- 24:25Speaker 3: and at this point, we've gotten to know so many
- 24:27Speaker 3: of them, you know, we went through a whole season,
- 24:29Speaker 3: but that we've seen them after the season, and like
- 24:32Speaker 3: what their lives look like and what good people they are.
- 24:34Speaker 3: And I just don't think she is in touch with reality.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I just think she is so full of herself and
- 24:40Speaker 3: she is so I almost feel like like her whole
- 24:42Speaker 3: world is this show right now, and all of our
- 24:45Speaker 3: happiness and all of her status is involved in this show,
- 24:48Speaker 3: and so she needs to make it really big and
- 24:51Speaker 3: really special in her mind and to do that. And
- 24:54Speaker 3: she's also all about, like very very very in tune
- 24:57Speaker 3: with the looks and the way people look. And so
- 25:00Speaker 3: I think that, you know, having a bunch of beautiful
- 25:02Speaker 3: men and the women on the show are really beautiful.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I agree with her, but I don't think they're any
- 25:06Speaker 3: more beautiful than the people that were on Goldenbaucher. I
- 25:08Speaker 3: think everybody's different. Everybody is beautiful in their own way,
- 25:11Speaker 3: and she just needs this to be bigger in that way.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Also, Yeah, I completely agree with you. I was surprised
- 25:20Speaker 2: by that comment because it is it just feels one
- 25:25Speaker 2: more critical than we're used to even seeing on The Bachelor,
- 25:28Speaker 2: and then two I just don't I don't know if
- 25:30Speaker 2: I agreed, And so it feels like a very aggressive
- 25:35Speaker 2: comment to make while you know you're on a show
- 25:38Speaker 2: that this will probably be shown on to national television,
- 25:41Speaker 2: especially if somehow you're dating America. I just don't think
- 25:46Speaker 2: it's going to go over Well. No, well, we are
- 25:50Speaker 2: going to get into the group date. The group date
- 25:51Speaker 2: card says sexy at every age. It's gonna be a
- 25:54Speaker 2: photo shoot with People magazine. Joan, you've been on the show,
- 25:59Speaker 2: You've done these to shoots. How Ashley and myself both
- 26:02Speaker 2: have different and but yet similar takes on a photo
- 26:07Speaker 2: shoot date. They seem to have popped up on every
- 26:09Speaker 2: Golden Season so far? Season Yep, what do you think
- 26:12Speaker 2: of them? Did it feel this? Do you remember yours?
- 26:15Speaker 2: Does it feel fun? Does it bring people together, Like,
- 26:17Speaker 2: just walk us through how it feels to be on
- 26:20Speaker 2: the Golden Show and be told you're going on a
- 26:21Speaker 2: photo shoot.
- 26:23Speaker 3: So on Golden Bachelor, Like, so first of all, let's
- 26:26Speaker 3: just say, like, as women, being on a photo shoot,
- 26:29Speaker 3: like dressing up and like trying to pretender to something
- 26:32Speaker 3: else is what we've done all of our lives. Like
- 26:34Speaker 3: you you like, for you know, your third or fourth Christmas,
- 26:37Speaker 3: you're given a box full of costumes that you wear
- 26:40Speaker 3: around the house all day with your friends, and you know,
- 26:42Speaker 3: it's what we do. So honestly, I think it's a
- 26:45Speaker 3: really good date group date because women feel kind of comfortable,
- 26:50Speaker 3: and you got to think about other group dates that
- 26:52Speaker 3: they've had so far. They've been cheerleaders, kind of uncomfortable.
- 26:55Speaker 3: They have had to do a comedy routine, also a
- 26:58Speaker 3: little hard in front of a bunch of people. So
- 27:01Speaker 3: as far as a group date, I feel like this
- 27:03Speaker 3: is comfortable for the women and we may get more
- 27:06Speaker 3: out of them because they're not so nervous. They are
- 27:09Speaker 3: going to put on like a fun outfit and have
- 27:11Speaker 3: your picture taken and get close to mel. What you
- 27:14Speaker 3: don't get is a lot of conversation in fact, you
- 27:17Speaker 3: get like no conversation. Honestly, you just get mel looking good.
- 27:21Speaker 3: He's a handsome guy. He has a shirt off on
- 27:22Speaker 3: a lot of the a lot of this date he
- 27:25Speaker 3: has his shirt off and he's looks he's looking great.
- 27:28Speaker 3: And the women are looking really fun and pretty in
- 27:31Speaker 3: their costumes and they look like they're having a great time.
- 27:33Speaker 3: You don't get a lot of conversation, but you do.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I feel like it like really cute pictures and everybody
- 27:38Speaker 3: having fun and it looks like it's fun. But once again,
- 27:42Speaker 3: what are you talking during these dates?
- 27:43Speaker 2: You have your picture taken, and it's something talking is
- 27:46Speaker 2: something we're missing this season. I think we started saying
- 27:50Speaker 2: off the show saying, hey, we're missing getting to know people,
- 27:53Speaker 2: but we do get to know somebody that I think
- 27:55Speaker 2: you and I both find not only interesting but very
- 28:01Speaker 2: intriguing in a really one of those characters this season
- 28:06Speaker 2: that I'd love to even learn more about. Debbie. She
- 28:09Speaker 2: gets emotional during this day because, as she's mentioned in
- 28:12Speaker 2: the past, she's never been engaged, she's never been married.
- 28:16Speaker 3: I think she has been engaged.
- 28:18Speaker 2: She has been engaged.
- 28:19Speaker 3: You think, okay, yeah, yeah, she has been engaged, But
- 28:22Speaker 3: she's never been married okay, yep, but never worn a
- 28:25Speaker 3: wedding dress.
- 28:26Speaker 2: This is very special. In fact, this I feel like
- 28:28Speaker 2: could have been her Golden Bachelor atte moment where this
- 28:32Speaker 2: person who is beautiful, who is open to sharing her
- 28:37Speaker 2: feelings and emotions, who's excited about the possibility of love,
- 28:42Speaker 2: opens up about that and this is the date that
- 28:44Speaker 2: does it. It's you know what, though, it's interesting now
- 28:47Speaker 2: that we're talking about this. I remember during Gary's season
- 28:50Speaker 2: and they had the photo shoot. I think that's when Nancy,
- 28:53Speaker 2: Nancy really you know, opened up and started sharing. So
- 28:57Speaker 2: there is something about this wedding dress deal. It's a
- 29:00Speaker 2: little bit mean because you're for anybody's been already in
- 29:03Speaker 2: the past or lost to spouse or maybe been divorced.
- 29:07Speaker 2: It is a reminder, yep of what was I don't
- 29:10Speaker 2: know if I love that aspect to it, but it
- 29:13Speaker 2: has caused the contestants to open up, and I think
- 29:17Speaker 2: that is going to be very beneficial, especially this season.
- 29:20Speaker 3: So in Gary season, Nancy opened up because she was
- 29:24Speaker 3: super emotional about she said, I haven't had a wedding
- 29:26Speaker 3: dress on since I was married, and she had lost
- 29:28Speaker 3: her husband and he had died of colon cancer, so
- 29:31Speaker 3: you know, it was really emotional for her. I see
- 29:34Speaker 3: Debbie getting really emotional, and I also get that for
- 29:36Speaker 3: her because she has never had this experience. And like
- 29:39Speaker 3: most people by the age, by the time you're in
- 29:41Speaker 3: your sixties, you've been married. Maybe it didn't work out,
- 29:45Speaker 3: maybe you're divorce or maybe your husband has passed away
- 29:47Speaker 3: like mine did. But you have actually had the time
- 29:50Speaker 3: to be married. You've spent years and years and years
- 29:52Speaker 3: with your person. And she's never had that. And it
- 29:55Speaker 3: makes me really worried for her because in her interview
- 29:58Speaker 3: after that, she's I was she said, you know, it
- 30:01Speaker 3: so special being in this wedding dress, and I was
- 30:03Speaker 3: ready for him to get down on one knee right there.
- 30:07Speaker 3: And I feel like, oh, I'm going to kill him
- 30:09Speaker 3: if he breaks her heart. I'm afraid, you know. I
- 30:11Speaker 3: know she's one of nine stale and I'm really really
- 30:14Speaker 3: worried about her heart right now because I think she
- 30:17Speaker 3: is maybe the most open of everybody. Yeah, of all
- 30:21Speaker 3: the contestants, I think she is most of it. I
- 30:23Speaker 3: almost feel like she's most deserving. I want this so
- 30:26Speaker 3: badly for her to be a couple, to be married,
- 30:29Speaker 3: she's wanted it for so long.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, it points to if it doesn't work out
- 30:33Speaker 2: with her in Mel, how beautiful would it be if
- 30:35Speaker 2: she got her own chance and we could watch Like
- 30:38Speaker 2: that's the type of people I want to watch.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I totally agree with you.
- 30:41Speaker 2: The show is people. I'm like, I beg of you
- 30:45Speaker 2: to find a love and I beg of you to
- 30:48Speaker 2: let me watch it because it would be so beautiful.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Oh my god, I love that idea. I love that idea.
- 30:54Speaker 3: So I hope she. I hope this works out for
- 30:56Speaker 3: her because I can see that she's really invested in Mel,
- 30:58Speaker 3: and she really likes them and I actually they're really
- 31:00Speaker 3: cute together. But if it doesn't, I love your idea. Okay,
- 31:03Speaker 3: So I'm going to hold out hope that if she
- 31:05Speaker 3: doesn't get it, I'm not going to be heartbroken for her,
- 31:07Speaker 3: because maybe she'll get to be the golden beout trite.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Let's put it out there, let's get people voting for it.
- 31:11Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 31:23Speaker 2: This day kind of goes on and on, and then
- 31:26Speaker 2: the photographer says he saw a lot of chemistry with
- 31:29Speaker 2: Mel and Cindy. He wants to take them for more
- 31:32Speaker 2: pictures and so we see the women watching Mel and
- 31:35Speaker 2: Cindy roll around the beach. The conversation I want to
- 31:38Speaker 2: have around this that I think is interesting. Ashley and
- 31:41Speaker 2: myself talked about it last week. As a lead of
- 31:45Speaker 2: a show, it was always very important to me to
- 31:47Speaker 2: try to not show affection in front of the other
- 31:50Speaker 2: castmates or other contestants win at all possible. It just
- 31:54Speaker 2: felt mean, it felt like it would increase jealousy or envy.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Mel doesn't seem to have this. He seems to be
- 32:00Speaker 2: diving full force into kissing and holding on whoever is
- 32:05Speaker 2: near him in front of anybody else.
- 32:07Speaker 3: I mean we saw it in the pool, right, I
- 32:09Speaker 3: mean literally in front of everybody else.
- 32:12Speaker 2: What do you think of that?
- 32:13Speaker 3: I feel the same way as you do about it.
- 32:15Speaker 3: First of all, I not only feel about that way
- 32:17Speaker 3: about it in front of everybody else watching, and it
- 32:20Speaker 3: like creating conflict and creating you know, jealous as the person,
- 32:25Speaker 3: like even as Cindy, I wouldn't have wanted it because
- 32:28Speaker 3: I'd want the other girls to like me. But also
- 32:31Speaker 3: it seems a little voyeuristic to me, Like I don't
- 32:35Speaker 3: think that as like me watching the TV, like I
- 32:38Speaker 3: really want to see that kind of intimate moment. I
- 32:39Speaker 3: don't want to see anything that intimate. Like, you know,
- 32:43Speaker 3: kisses are okay, rolling on top of each other is
- 32:46Speaker 3: a little too much for me. I think it's especially
- 32:49Speaker 3: with the.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Golden I'm with you. I just it feels again either
- 32:55Speaker 2: pushing in the lines of being the Bachelor's show, or
- 32:59Speaker 2: it also even during the Bachelor show, would feel maybe
- 33:03Speaker 2: i'd say inappropriate, just with the respect of the other
- 33:06Speaker 2: people involved. Speaking of inappropriate, this date starts out really
- 33:10Speaker 2: like beautiful, and they're wearing dresses and all this stuff,
- 33:12Speaker 2: and then we end with people wearing towels. I don't
- 33:15Speaker 2: exactly remember or understand. Why how did we go from
- 33:18Speaker 2: dresses to towels?
- 33:20Speaker 3: I don't know. Well, so the whole beach theme is okay.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I don't know how poor Carol ended up with just
- 33:27Speaker 3: a towel. And I'm looking at the rack of clothes
- 33:31Speaker 3: now she's standing there. She's like, all I have is
- 33:32Speaker 3: a towel, but yet there is a rack still with
- 33:34Speaker 3: clothes on it. So I'm not sure how that happened.
- 33:37Speaker 3: That seems maybe it was a little engineered and she
- 33:40Speaker 3: got stuck with the towel and like she didn't seem
- 33:43Speaker 3: like she really liked the idea, and she felt uncomfortable,
- 33:45Speaker 3: and I felt uncomfortable for her, and I think maybe
- 33:48Speaker 3: she really didn't have clothes on. Unruth. I don't really know,
- 33:50Speaker 3: but I think that's like kind of brave. You're running
- 33:52Speaker 3: around Malibu Beach with only a towel on. But she
- 33:56Speaker 3: embraced it at the end, which I'm surprised. She said,
- 33:59Speaker 3: I went from hey, being the tawgirl to loving being
- 34:02Speaker 3: the tow girl. I'm not sure why that transition happened.
- 34:05Speaker 3: I think she just finally accepted it and got into it.
- 34:07Speaker 3: But I don't know what were the producers thinking. Why
- 34:10Speaker 3: did she I don't even know the theme of that date.
- 34:12Speaker 3: They all had different stuff on.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was just literally, I don't know
- 34:16Speaker 2: if there was an idea. It was like, here's a
- 34:17Speaker 2: photo shoot, and what can we individually pick out for
- 34:19Speaker 2: each person to make them feel the most uncomfortable or
- 34:22Speaker 2: to bring out emotion. Carol does end up with the
- 34:25Speaker 2: group day Rose from this day, so it does work
- 34:28Speaker 2: out for her, But we also see the first time
- 34:30Speaker 2: mel is kind of exposed to any drama that's happening
- 34:33Speaker 2: in the house. Robin brings up to Mel during this that, hey,
- 34:37Speaker 2: she doesn't think everybody there is being authentic to the
- 34:41Speaker 2: experience and to the pursuit of love that this show
- 34:44Speaker 2: is about. Mel pretty quickly dismisses this conversation and says, no,
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think they are As a lead Joan, when somebody
- 34:55Speaker 2: would come to you and say something like this, do
- 34:59Speaker 2: you listen, how do you respond? What do you take
- 35:02Speaker 2: from it?
- 35:03Speaker 3: So I'm thinking about people that have done this in
- 35:08Speaker 3: the past, and this happens all the time, especially on
- 35:10Speaker 3: just regular Bachelor Bacherette seasons. Happens pretty often, and I
- 35:15Speaker 3: feel like the lead is always very conflicted about not
- 35:19Speaker 3: necessarily wanting to believe them, and sometimes the messenger becomes
- 35:24Speaker 3: the person their manner and not the intended person that
- 35:28Speaker 3: maybe they should be wary of. So all of a sudden,
- 35:31Speaker 3: the messenger becomes the bad guy. And I think that's
- 35:33Speaker 3: what happened in this one. Also, that he didn't really
- 35:37Speaker 3: want to believe it, and even if she had told
- 35:40Speaker 3: him that it was Nicole, I think he's not thinking
- 35:43Speaker 3: with his head in his heart right now, to be honest,
- 35:45Speaker 3: I'm hoping he starts thinking with the right body parts
- 35:47Speaker 3: but I think at this time he's not, and he
- 35:49Speaker 3: would have dismissed it anyway, even if she said the
- 35:51Speaker 3: name as a lead. I think I would want to know,
- 35:55Speaker 3: but you just never know what people's motives are. Sure,
- 35:58Speaker 3: so I'm not I'm not sure that you want to
- 36:01Speaker 3: dive into that, and maybe you need to discover things yourself.
- 36:04Speaker 3: And I'm hoping that Mel discovers this himself. I mean,
- 36:08Speaker 3: she's so out there with her statements. Eventually she's going
- 36:11Speaker 3: to say something to him. Yeah, I just can't imagine
- 36:14Speaker 3: that she's going to hide it from him for much longer.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I think it was such a fear of mine that
- 36:19Speaker 2: there would be people there with all interior motives that
- 36:24Speaker 2: if somebody would have said it to me and they did,
- 36:26Speaker 2: I think I just would have asked a few questions.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I'm with you on Hey, I'm not going to take
- 36:30Speaker 2: this as the only truth, but I want to be
- 36:35Speaker 2: able to investigate it, or at least to be knowledgeable
- 36:37Speaker 2: of it, and if anything, maybe confront some of the
- 36:40Speaker 2: people that were brought up and just say, hey, like,
- 36:44Speaker 2: you know the simple question. You know, I only need
- 36:46Speaker 2: to tell them who told me? But why are you here?
- 36:48Speaker 2: Like what excites you about this experience and about you know,
- 36:51Speaker 2: what you're going through, just to get nuggets a little
- 36:55Speaker 2: bit of information, you know. I think, yes, you're right
- 37:01Speaker 2: if the person that says it oftentimes is the one
- 37:03Speaker 2: that gets in trouble mm hmm. Very rarely do we
- 37:07Speaker 2: see that go the other direction. Yeah, but I would
- 37:10Speaker 2: have asked a few more questions. I don't think I
- 37:11Speaker 2: just would have dismissed it and said no, no, no,
- 37:13Speaker 2: I know everything.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Do you think that Robin would have told him
- 37:19Speaker 3: the name if he had asked?
- 37:20Speaker 2: Yes, I think she wanted to so bad.
- 37:22Speaker 3: I know, I wonder why he didn't ask. I kept
- 37:24Speaker 3: thinking he was going to ask, like, who are you
- 37:27Speaker 3: talking about? So I don't think he wanted to know. Yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 3: just he would.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Have asked the name, which points to one of two
- 37:34Speaker 2: things to me. Either he just doesn't care, like at all.
- 37:40Speaker 2: He hasn't not invested into this at all. There's no
- 37:42Speaker 2: emotion behind those the intention or like whatever. Yeah, that's fine,
- 37:48Speaker 2: I'm having a good time. We're doing it like I
- 37:50Speaker 2: haven't cried yet, I haven't really had a hard time yet.
- 37:53Speaker 2: I'm going to keep doing this this way. Or he
- 37:57Speaker 2: doesn't know to ask the question me. He doesn't know.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Maybe he hasn't watched any other seasons. He doesn't even
- 38:05Speaker 2: know what the path forward would look like if he
- 38:07Speaker 2: did find out.
- 38:08Speaker 3: But wouldn't you know, Like it was so easy to
- 38:10Speaker 3: just say. It's almost surprised that he didn't say, well,
- 38:13Speaker 3: who are you talking about? Yeah, so it's I think
- 38:15Speaker 3: it's the what you said in the beginning. He doesn't care. Ye,
- 38:20Speaker 3: you must not really care.
- 38:22Speaker 2: And that's concerning for me. Again. I think the best
- 38:26Speaker 2: thing for him and this season would be a moment
- 38:28Speaker 2: of vulnerability that he displays for us to go, yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 2: you're in this man, like you care, you're in it,
- 38:34Speaker 2: you're invested, which I haven't seen it yet, but either.
- 38:38Speaker 2: One of the big storylines of this episode that just
- 38:41Speaker 2: fell short, quite honestly, was the women are back at
- 38:44Speaker 2: the mansion the next day and they're preparing for this tailgate.
- 38:49Speaker 2: They're making Mele's favorite dessert, which is lemon bars. We
- 38:52Speaker 2: see Nicole Larius sharing that if this was her idea
- 38:55Speaker 2: and she's doing all the work, we see her in
- 38:58Speaker 2: the hot tub with a mask on, and the women going, yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 2: Nicole just sat out there with a mask on. And
- 39:03Speaker 2: watched things. They make these lemon bars, and then during
- 39:09Speaker 2: the tailgate, Nicole brings them to Mel and says that
- 39:14Speaker 2: she made these for him, and she talks about how
- 39:16Speaker 2: she made him and that she made him with a
- 39:17Speaker 2: thin crust because it's the way he likes it. It
- 39:21Speaker 2: fell short to me because this wasn't this wasn't a
- 39:25Speaker 2: small act. In my opinion, These women invested time and
- 39:29Speaker 2: effort and it could have been all of them. They
- 39:31Speaker 2: all kissed him one night together. Why not bring the
- 39:33Speaker 2: limbars to them together and just share, Hey, we're all
- 39:37Speaker 2: thinking about you. But she decides to do it herself.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Yet we see no follow up from it. That's kind
- 39:44Speaker 2: of where it ends, and so the story was never concluded,
- 39:50Speaker 2: it was never brought to service. This I mean, Joan,
- 39:53Speaker 2: you've been a part of the show. This feels like
- 39:55Speaker 2: the easiest producer moment ever. Hey do you know that
- 39:57Speaker 2: Nicole brought Mel those limen bars that you guys all
- 40:00Speaker 2: made today? And that's that's where they leave it. Like
- 40:03Speaker 2: they tell the one girl that they know, like Robin,
- 40:05Speaker 2: who's going to be already upset and say something about it,
- 40:08Speaker 2: but we see nothing.
- 40:10Speaker 3: It's very odd that You're right that they just kind
- 40:13Speaker 3: of let it hang like it was done and he
- 40:15Speaker 3: was like, oh, they're good lemon bars, and then it
- 40:17Speaker 3: was kind of over. And I like, you know, so
- 40:20Speaker 3: I don't know the producers this year at all, because
- 40:22Speaker 3: they you know, you know, the franchise kind of had
- 40:24Speaker 3: an upheople last year and there's all different people. But
- 40:28Speaker 3: I feel the same way about you, Like they just
- 40:29Speaker 3: missed this whole opportunity to you know, have so they're
- 40:33Speaker 3: allowing this weird drama with Nicole, like with her just
- 40:36Speaker 3: playing it out in her head with everybody else. But
- 40:38Speaker 3: when there is like real drama, like this is actually
- 40:40Speaker 3: something that they should be mad at her about, they
- 40:43Speaker 3: don't ever get the opportunity to do that to like
- 40:44Speaker 3: say no, she didn't make it, Like she literally went
- 40:47Speaker 3: and sat in the hot tub, and like specifically the crush,
- 40:49Speaker 3: Like you're talking about the crust. They show like Jerry
- 40:53Speaker 3: and somebody else like actually rolling out the crust. Yeah,
- 40:56Speaker 3: and Nicole in the hot tub, like specifically the crust
- 40:59Speaker 3: the thing that I made it because it's extra thin,
- 41:01Speaker 3: and I know that's how you like it, Like she
- 41:03Speaker 3: really didn't do that.
- 41:05Speaker 2: This could be lemon bar Gate, just like we've had
- 41:07Speaker 2: shrimp Gate in the past, and this could be an
- 41:10Speaker 2: iconic moment for the show. And it also could have
- 41:13Speaker 2: been a moment in the show that's memorable that maybe
- 41:18Speaker 2: made Mel take a step into something uncomfortable and confront something.
- 41:24Speaker 2: But we don't see it. We see a small little
- 41:26Speaker 2: comment from Cindy about how she took credit, but it
- 41:29Speaker 2: feels like it just comes and goes. Yeah, it's such
- 41:31Speaker 2: a big, long story.
- 41:35Speaker 3: And again it makes me think, is it Bachelor trying
- 41:41Speaker 3: to keep her around because she's creating controversy and so
- 41:44Speaker 3: if he discovers that she's lying about this, is he
- 41:47Speaker 3: then going to send her home and not give her
- 41:48Speaker 3: a rose this week?
- 41:50Speaker 2: Yeah? I think that's probably the only outcome. I think
- 41:52Speaker 2: you're right, I think. But then again, it makes me
- 41:55Speaker 2: ask the question, why do they show it unless they
- 41:57Speaker 2: want the audience to maybe be upset. Yeah, but the
- 42:02Speaker 2: audience is going to be upset already. It's really what
- 42:06Speaker 2: I think the audience wants to see, is Mel do
- 42:08Speaker 2: something that feels human and have to respond to something
- 42:13Speaker 2: that feels uncomfortable. Mmm, yeah, we haven't seen yet.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and he does, and he doesn't get the chance
- 42:19Speaker 3: to do that, and it would have been a perfect
- 42:20Speaker 3: time for him to maybe get rid of Nicole because
- 42:23Speaker 3: like we are all seen from the outside that that
- 42:25Speaker 3: needs to happen, and that he's not thinking with his
- 42:28Speaker 3: head in his heart, he's thinking with other things. It's
- 42:29Speaker 3: all physical with him right now with her, Like one
- 42:32Speaker 3: is he ever going to like get in touch with
- 42:35Speaker 3: reality and what she really is like because she's only
- 42:38Speaker 3: showing good side of her. He's not seeing all the
- 42:40Speaker 3: stuff we're seeing.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. It's just I think it's a
- 42:44Speaker 2: little bit of caring, and I think it's a little
- 42:47Speaker 2: bit of awareness mm hmm. And I think it's a
- 42:50Speaker 2: little bit of the the women in the house, you know,
- 42:56Speaker 2: combating some of this. But he's gotten rid of the
- 42:57Speaker 2: combatis at this point Robin was trying to say something
- 43:00Speaker 2: to him. Yet we see at the Rose ceremony that
- 43:03Speaker 2: Peg and car already have roses. Debbie, Cindy, Cheryl and
- 43:07Speaker 2: Nicole get roses, which means Roxanne, Robin and Jerry are
- 43:11Speaker 2: going home. We see Jerry kind of be the focal
- 43:14Speaker 2: point of the exits. Mm hmm.
- 43:17Speaker 3: I feel like like they never developed any farther like
- 43:22Speaker 3: first date rose, or like whatever, the first impression rose.
- 43:27Speaker 3: She got that. I loved that she got that because
- 43:29Speaker 3: she was kind of a like an unlikely person to me.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I thought I didn't think she was going to get it.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I thought people someone that made a bigger entrance usually
- 43:37Speaker 3: gets that. But he, you know, felt something about her.
- 43:41Speaker 3: It just never grew. I didn't feel like it ever
- 43:44Speaker 3: really grew and continued on this group date. I didn't
- 43:47Speaker 3: feel like there was any chemistry between them on this date.
- 43:50Speaker 3: So I feel like it never grew. But I love
- 43:52Speaker 3: that he did say, like that wasn't a mistake. I
- 43:55Speaker 3: really had a connection with you that first night, and
- 43:58Speaker 3: it's okay if it doesn't grow, you know, it is
- 44:01Speaker 3: what it is. There are other people that he felt
- 44:04Speaker 3: a bigger connection with. But I felt like she went
- 44:06Speaker 3: home happy, like she had her moment and she grew
- 44:10Speaker 3: from it. And I think that she's now opened the
- 44:12Speaker 3: door to dating and you know, like having a different
- 44:16Speaker 3: life that she didn't have before she came. This happened
- 44:18Speaker 3: to me, I mean, same kind of thing happened to me.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I went into Golden Boucher not really ready to date
- 44:22Speaker 3: and not really open to the whole thing. I just
- 44:25Speaker 3: kind of did it on a whim and thought, well,
- 44:27Speaker 3: I'm just gonna, you know, throw caution to the wind
- 44:29Speaker 3: and take a leap of faith and see how this works.
- 44:31Speaker 3: And I came out a completely different person. And I
- 44:33Speaker 3: feel like that's happened to Jerry.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Also, Yeah, I agree. I think, yeah, she will only
- 44:38Speaker 2: be better yep for this experience, and it's going to
- 44:41Speaker 2: be a good story to share. It'll be fun maybe
- 44:44Speaker 2: to see her be one of the goldens in Paradise.
- 44:47Speaker 2: If they bring Paradise back, that would be fun. I know.
- 44:52Speaker 2: They all jumped in the pool with their clothes on,
- 44:54Speaker 2: and then the rose ceremony really funny, really cute m h.
- 44:57Speaker 2: And then we see the previews for next week. There
- 45:00Speaker 2: looks like they're at some spiritual retreat. We can also
- 45:03Speaker 2: see dates at the Griffith Observatory, so it looks like
- 45:06Speaker 2: they're still in Los Angeles during this next episode mm hm.
- 45:11Speaker 2: And we see some kissing, we see Debbie telling Mel
- 45:14Speaker 2: she's falling in love with him, and then we kind
- 45:18Speaker 2: of see the big moment where there's an suv that
- 45:22Speaker 2: pulls up. It looks like to one of their dates
- 45:24Speaker 2: that maybe is a group date or they're on a
- 45:26Speaker 2: hike of some kind. Any insight joan into what you
- 45:29Speaker 2: think that could be.
- 45:31Speaker 3: So as far as like a spiritual retreat, I feel
- 45:34Speaker 3: like it's going to be really out of Mel's comfort zone.
- 45:37Speaker 3: I just think that's going to be weird. And I
- 45:39Speaker 3: feel like Bacher loves to do these spiritual things and
- 45:42Speaker 3: they're always so uncomfortable. I was so uncomfortable at the
- 45:44Speaker 3: one on my season. I can't remember, did you do
- 45:47Speaker 3: a spirit like one of those yoga or one of
- 45:49Speaker 3: those weird things. It's a new thing. Huh. Yeah, they're uncomfortable.
- 45:53Speaker 3: I can't see Meil being really great at a spiritual
- 45:57Speaker 3: kind of retreat kind of thing, and then that a
- 46:01Speaker 3: suv pulls up. Does he finally figure out Nicole? I
- 46:07Speaker 3: don't know. Maybe all of this is leading up to that.
- 46:11Speaker 3: So I don't know. I feel like Cheryl is I
- 46:17Speaker 3: feel like she's acting a little bit.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Like over dramatizing something.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit. So yeah, I don't know. What
- 46:25Speaker 3: do you think it is? I can't I can't think
- 46:27Speaker 3: other than I think Nicole, because maybe they're leading up
- 46:29Speaker 3: to this and we're going to be happy when she
- 46:30Speaker 3: gets sent home. Yeah maybe, yeah.
- 46:34Speaker 2: I mean it just you know, if it was a
- 46:36Speaker 2: medical emergency, would have seeing ems. So it's a black car,
- 46:40Speaker 2: which means we're seeing an exit of some type. I
- 46:42Speaker 2: actually thought it was somebody coming to the show. To me,
- 46:49Speaker 2: I thought it was somebody arriving. But then I think
- 46:52Speaker 2: the words are saying she left.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Yeah again her saying I can't believe she's gone.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. So I'm curious. It does feel like a
- 47:01Speaker 2: big moment during this season that they're going to tease,
- 47:03Speaker 2: probably for a few weeks here. What it does point
- 47:06Speaker 2: me to is that Cheryl might be around a while. Yeah,
- 47:10Speaker 2: we'll see Joan. Any other comments that we haven't covered
- 47:15Speaker 2: when it comes to this season so far on The
- 47:18Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor, Hmm, I think.
- 47:20Speaker 3: We covered Nicole pretty well. I feel like I am
- 47:25Speaker 3: missing some dates that need to happen, Like I feel
- 47:28Speaker 3: like Carol really needs a date. I love that she
- 47:33Speaker 3: gets the group date Rose, so I hope we see
- 47:35Speaker 3: more of her. Cheryl's had a date. Cindy needs a date.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Looks like she gets one though, right we see her
- 47:42Speaker 3: kind of kissing him, so I feel like Cindy gets one.
- 47:44Speaker 3: Debbie's getting great Nicole's kind of gotten one. PEG's gotten one.
- 47:48Speaker 3: So I feel like, you know, I need Carol to
- 47:51Speaker 3: have something. I'm hoping we see more from her. I
- 47:54Speaker 3: really really like her.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. That's a great comment in something
- 47:59Speaker 2: to state. Tune for next episodes. Joan, it is always
- 48:02Speaker 2: a gift to have you in our presence. You are
- 48:05Speaker 2: incredible at this. It is so fun to break this
- 48:07Speaker 2: down with you. Thank you for answering all the questions
- 48:09Speaker 2: of the behind the scenes of The Golden but also
- 48:12Speaker 2: giving your input into what we're seeing currently on the Goldens.
- 48:16Speaker 2: We wish you the best. We hope that you and
- 48:18Speaker 2: Chop can do many more New York City tours together.
- 48:21Speaker 2: And next time, if we're there at the same time,
- 48:23Speaker 2: please message us and tell us you're there. I will
- 48:27Speaker 2: if it's not like a, hey, we haven't seen each
- 48:29Speaker 2: other in a couple months, we just need our own
- 48:30Speaker 2: time kind of trip.
- 48:32Speaker 3: We would have loved to see you. I will definitely
- 48:34Speaker 3: do that next time.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Joan, You're the best. Until next time, I've been, Ben,
- 48:39Speaker 2: I've been, Joan, see you later.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I'll follow the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcasts
- 48:45Speaker 1: on iHeartRadio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts,
